| McJarvis04-16-08, 09:06 AM | Please don't edit the sheet after the deadline or you will lose the match. News and Whatnot New Rulings - Courtroom The following rulings were voted for by MWB, Zevox, Telin, crazy, and Erithmu. Sauro voted against. Seeing as how Hirm is AFK right now, I'm counting them as "decided". Though they still have not been added to court decisions... You can not find invisible creatures merely by moving through thier square- they can merely opt to let you pass by. The only exception is if you end movement in the same square as an invisible creature- you will then effectively know an invisible creature was there because you will be "moved" to the last legal square you occupied. A Shadowdancer/Assassin's HiPS does not require concealment or cover to use- it merely requires a shadow nearby that is not their own. This shadow does not have to be visible to the observer or even grant any sort of concealment itself. The Council Decisions/Revelations Current Topics Courtroom - Sauro wishes an elder decision on using an intelligent cohort as a mount. [and what tricks/training it requires] Council - There is a discussion on how quickly you should be able to aquire ethereal equipment. These are topics that have died down but had nothing come of them. Personally? I blame the terrorists. Council - Mechanics of the "Awaken" spell is currently being discussed in the council. Courtroom- Good grief, we're talking about the Bag of Tricks again. Sooner or later Lelenia will level enough that we can put these discussions behind us. :-) Council- Delay rules are still being discussed. Check out the Courtroom and Council to join in all the fun! Rules of Gladius All that you need to know is written in the Rules of Gladius. It could be useful also to give a look to the Court Decisions Part 1 and Part 2. Please do not make fake accounts or insult the Elders. New idea: let's not insult anyone, ok? :) Pairings GM MindWandererB will pair the active Characters of Gladius after the deadline. Link to pairings. Make sure that your character is not in prison. Pitlording You should use the CoCo Dice Roller (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com) for the fight. If you need it, there is a nice template ready to use that will help. You could find the Battle Map Tag Generator (http://www.hwx.it/coco) for dynamic Maps very useful. You must post a link to your fight in this thread when it is complete. If you need a quick and dirty tool to calculate distances between two points (in 2-D or 3-D), this tool (http://wormhole.ath.cx/coco/coco_dist.php) should suffice. Another useful link is the Quick Access tables for XP and Gold. If a fight needs to be rerun, the Pitlord has to inform the Pitlords account. He cannot react to requests from Players because the other player and the pitlord might disagree. He has no time to read the fight and the discussion. Please keep that in mind. PMs from players with rerun requests won't have an impact. Comments & Concerns Post any comments or concerns for this weeks fights in this thread. Be kind and courteous to your fellow posters, and don't feed the pitlords. Please remember that they do hard work and consume a lot of time to let you play. Above all, have FUN! If you have questions or comments on any of the changes, please make your posts be heard in the Council of Gladius! |
| Sjiggie04-16-08, 09:25 AM | *me hopes for a fight for Gradak on a map other then on the plains* |
| McJarvis04-16-08, 09:28 AM | *me hopes wishes for a fight for Gradak on a map other then on the plains* Granted! You get a fight in the sewers, but it is a 4-way ffa with three monsters. ...erm, wrong thread B-) |
| Salrantol04-16-08, 10:50 AM | Granted! You get a fight in the sewers, but it is a 4-way ffa with three monsters with Touchsight (ML 11) as an at-will psi-like ability and DR 10/bludgeoning.Fixed. |
| McJarvis04-16-08, 12:02 PM | I just realized this is gonna be my second solo character ever to be in ECL7. [thorell levels up this week regardless of outcome of his fight!] yay! I hope he's more fun than poe was. Poe sucked. |
| TelinArtho04-16-08, 12:05 PM | Maybe I should activate my special creation for ECL 7... Lirpa Loof. FEAR THE FIDDLE! |
| lonewolf04-16-08, 02:30 PM | @MWB: Any chance that Samuel wont fight Longshot again? We´ve met in the arena often enough in the last few fights. Maybe a team-monster fight or something. |
| McJarvis04-16-08, 02:43 PM | Maybe I should activate my special creation for ECL 7... Lirpa Loof. FEAR THE FIDDLE! It is a shame that there isn't a level 1 abjuration that blocks all mind-affecting affects that take control of your body. Hmm.... |
| TelinArtho04-16-08, 03:11 PM | He can do it at will though - so you better have a lot of potions or have it memorized a lot... Using a CL1 potion of Protection from Evil at that level is as laughable against the fiddle as it is a protection against Kraegin's summons. Sure - it might hedge them out at first - but they'll still be there when the spell runs out. |

Using a CL1 potion of Protection from Evil at that level is as laughable against the fiddle as it is a protection against Kraegin's summons. Sure - it might hedge them out at first - but they'll still be there when the spell runs out. He can do it at will, until someone sneezes and does 13 points of damage to him. Or a stiff breeze knocks him unconscious. :) |
| McJarvis04-16-08, 03:20 PM | He can do it at will though - so you better have a lot of potions or have it memorized a lot... Using a CL1 potion of Protection from Evil at that level is as laughable against the fiddle as it is a protection against Kraegin's summons. Sure - it might hedge them out at first - but they'll still be there when the spell runs out. You really think a CL1 potion is all people are going to be carrying? I guess I'm a bad example since I enjoy building tank-ish characters- but thorell has 60 rounds of protection stored up for his whole 3FC. I'm not sure *why* I have that many rounds of protection, though. Thorell's matches rarely last more than 2 or 3 rounds after he makes contact. |
| McJarvis04-16-08, 03:25 PM | On an unrelated note- ouch, I really hope I don't end up facing off against Max again. Though I suppose it would be appropriate payback for me nova'ing against him the other week. edit- Actually, this will probably be a tough week no matter which way I slice it. All the casters in ECL6 are activated, and they all have alot of spells available... |
| TelinArtho04-16-08, 04:07 PM | Hmm - did I activate Dentik? I think I did... he's not that nasty at all. He does have a lot of his spells available though - that is correct. |
| McJarvis04-16-08, 04:09 PM | I tend to just assume that mass spellcasting will win the day :) I didn't look at any specifics on that, though... |
| TelinArtho04-16-08, 04:29 PM | "TelinArtho - the one who cannot win even with spellcasters" |

| McJarvis04-16-08, 05:15 PM | @MWB: Thorell already faced Max this ECL in the arena. (it was two weeks ago even- and this would make Thorell the only gladiator Max has faced out of three fights[thorell/monster/thorell]) |
| MindWandererB04-16-08, 05:21 PM | @MWB: Thorell already faced Max this ECL in the arena. (it was two weeks ago even- and this would make Thorell the only gladiator Max has faced out of three fights[thorell/monster/thorell]) So he has, same map no less (@lonewolf: you need to fix Max's results section). Mineau Guwango (Turanson) vs. Max Ribbleton (lonewolf) : Yitzi [Arena] Thorell Runesmith (McJarvis) vs. Dentik Earthmolder (TelinArtho) : lonewolf [Cavern] |
| The Dread Dormammu04-16-08, 05:25 PM | Snaga has finished his 3FC and is supposed to be crafting this week I think... Unless I missed something. |
| templer1004-16-08, 05:37 PM | MWB - Monster for gak has been rolled - 2 large sized err- Things with 8 legs (i think) - should be fairly obvios. On another note - how exacly does a team of longshot + monster vs samuel + monster works? telin roll up the monster, give it gear and tells us what it is and we write full tactics? p.s. - that's going to be a huge fight in such a small map - i just hope we dont get multiple monsters. |
| lonewolf04-16-08, 05:41 PM | Samuel Highground (lonewolf) and Unknown Monster vs. Longshot (templer10) and Unknown Monster : TelinArtho [Temple] [Team] I was rather expecting Samuel & Longshot vs monster, but this one also works. Depending on those monsters this could be very interesting. |
| templer1004-16-08, 05:44 PM | I was rather expecting Samuel & Longshot vs monster, but this one also works. Depending on those monsters this could be very interesting. Indeed- and we actually get to use our allies this time - unlike a normal longshot vs samuel. |
| lonewolf04-16-08, 05:49 PM | @Telin & templer: How do you think about making this fight in a seperate thread? It would make things easier to run for Telin and both templer and I would save a lot of time writing tactics. personally, I would have no problem if that means that the fight might take longer than a week to resolve. |

| whitebaron04-16-08, 06:00 PM | well, about that team fight and my team vs flutter fight: i brought it already to the council last week, and it was voted on by the elders that this has to be changed - but it is not in the rules yet, though mwb wrote something like "done then, i'll search through the necessary rules sections" - i believe that change already takes effect, right? |
| MindWandererB04-16-08, 06:12 PM | Snaga has finished his 3FC and is supposed to be crafting this week I think... Unless I missed something. You missed putting FULL in caps so I wouldn't miss it. But it does apply starting now. |
| Sjiggie04-16-08, 07:09 PM | Yess!!! Gradak fights on another map then the plains :D Tactics will follow on friday got to work tomorrow for at least 12 hours so I won't have time for it. Sjiggie |

| Yitzi04-17-08, 10:52 AM | Question: I was scheduled to run 2 fights, but then one was changed and reassigned to McJarvis. Do I still get the credit for it? |
| TelinArtho04-17-08, 12:47 PM | Not usually - but maybe MWB was feeling kind (or forgetful :)) |
| McJarvis04-17-08, 01:47 PM | tactics for thorell are out. |

| Salrantol04-18-08, 07:27 AM | @McJarvis: Can our team have an extra day or so to hash out tactics? One of us is having some time constraints and coordinating three of us is a bit of a strain. | lonewolf04-18-08, 04:13 PM | Mineau vs. Max is up. I probably won't get to see responses until Monday night. I dont really understand why Max has to roll a concentration check in round 5, but it doesnt matter anyway. Thanks for running! |

| Turanson04-18-08, 05:58 PM | Darrgon vs. sunstroke vs Orgauth vs. Soren is up |
| TelinArtho04-18-08, 06:03 PM | In round 8, the centipede hits Soren. First off - I gave you the wrong damage - it should have been +4 due to strength, not +3. Regardless of that though - the centipede has dex poison (Fort DC13, 1d4 dex, 1d4 dex) - so this could have a big effect on Soren if he fails his fortitude saves. Some of the other opponents' positions seem a little off in the middle rounds - but I'm not certain of that. Thanks for running it - if you could just add in the poison checks - I should be satisfied with it. EDIT - there seems to be an issue with Nanook attacking Sunstroke and hitting Orgauth for 5 in one of the rounds. Also - since Nanook is trained for war (Combat Riding) - on every hit he gets a free trip attempt. |
| MindWandererB04-18-08, 06:33 PM | Darrgon vs. sunstroke vs Orgauth vs. Soren is up There's a lot of weirdness there. Sunstroke takes two standard actions in round 1. Round 3, Sunstroke should be on the offensive. I can see improvising to take total defense instead of closing (to keep the dog from getting the first attack), but both total defense and closing doesn't seem to make much sense. Nanook only gets one attack--why it it full attacking? Same goes for the centipedes. Round 11, "Nanook fullattack Sunstroke and hits for 5 hp dropping Orgauth." Which would be odd enough, but it also isn't in the roller. Round 15, removing a shield is a move action, so there's once again too many actions here for Sunstroke. Starting in round 17, my tactics say to go after whoever's more dangerous to me. As one opponent is attacking me and the other isn't, I should be going after the one who is. By round 18, they're about equally convenient. This would also change Darrgon's behavior, I think, and the timing and/or target of that shocking grasp crit might change as a consequence. Due to Sunstroke's Large size, movement is definitely wacky. You did know that you can change pin sizes in the mapper, right? Not all of those things really need to be addressed--just points 4, 6, and 7 ought to be enough to satisfy me. |

Not all of those things really need to be addressed--just points 4, 6, and 7 ought to be enough to satisfy me. just a quick look 1. jep 2. you couldn't get to the dog and attack so you let it come to you with just a little more ac. 3. i only think they get one attack 4. looking at the roller it was Soren who did the 5 hp to Orgauth, but it looks like I forgot to to give nanook an attack in that round 5.jep 6. point taken yes the danger thing should make you go after Drragon 7. I'll look into that @Telin: will add in posion and trip |
| dulsi04-18-08, 08:27 PM | Round 4 Orgauth should of cast Shocking grasp for the bat. My tactics didn't specify it very well but it is in there. "Cast shocking grasp as the last first level spell for the bat to use." (Assuming I had the hit points lost in round 7, I would trigger the heavily injured clause and try to touch someone.) Round 5 Bow damage should be 2d6 since Orgauth is enlarged. Round 7 Orgauth has 21/27 hp. I don't see him get hit anywhere for 6 damage. |
| lonewolf04-18-08, 11:18 PM | @MagicChoco: Note that your tactics for Volley are already late. Im going to bed now. If I dont have them by the time I get up again, I will post an autoloss for you. |
| lonewolf04-19-08, 06:35 AM | Torik Loraheim vs. Volley is up. |
| dulsi04-19-08, 10:54 AM | S'lertak vs. Eland is started but the dice roller isn't responding for me at the moment so I'll finish it later. I noticed while doing this that Eland doesn't have Handle Animal. I was planning on having dismount and perhaps order the horse away. So I when looking for the trick information I found: If the commanded action is a trick the mount knows, giving the command is a move action and requires a DC 10 Handle Animal check. Since handle animal is trained only can he not command the horse when not riding? What about his dog? Also can come or one of the other trick be used for go away? |

Also can come or one of the other trick be used for go away? Untrained: If you have no ranks in Handle Animal, you can use a Charisma check to handle and push domestic animals, but you can’t teach, rear, or train animals. A druid or ranger with no ranks in Handle Animal can use a Charisma check to handle and push her animal companion, but she can’t teach, rear, or train other nondomestic animals. I'd say dogs and horses fits into the domestic animals categories. No need to order the horse away, I think the horse will simply choose what's best for it. If it's wounded it should go away, otherwise it may even attack, I think. On tricks: Down (DC 15): The animal breaks off from combat or otherwise backs down. An animal that doesn’t know this trick continues to fight until it must flee (due to injury, a fear effect, or the like) or its opponent is defeated. |

Wow - I didn't really expect my tactic to work out. I figured I'd either be dead on the first hit or (more likely) die while trying to take out the mirror images before the dispel... Dentik has had a few wins that have surprised me of late - pleasantly so. Sorry to take away the GR so quickly (and by so much - I know Dentik's PR is not so stellar...). ----------- I haven't looked over the redo of the FFA or the start of S'lertak's fight yet. |

Eh, GR isn't that important. I was expecting to lose it by ECL8, since that's when Thor's power is gonna drop off a little bit. |
| dulsi04-20-08, 01:25 PM | S'lertak vs. Eland is done except for rewards. I kept thinking the dice roller didn't want the fight to end. Hopefully I did S'lertak's attacks properly. (There are some incorrect or missing modifiers in the roller but I believe I accounted for everything.) |
| CrazyArtificer04-20-08, 01:42 PM | Thanks for your run dulsi. A couple things I see: 1) Round 11 Eland cuts out of the net. But it shouldn't be entangled anymore, as he already cut it in round 10. This means all following attacks/actions should scroll one round up. 2) Bobi II is dropped to -3. I'd like to see some rolls to see if it dies or stabilize. If that's the second it can be healed and used in the next fight :) 3) Same for Furia. Harder for it, as it was dropped to -7 2. Can someone explain me why I keep hearing "Pyrrus victory" in my head? :P |
| whitebaron04-20-08, 01:45 PM | @dulsi: just a random bit about horses. you don't roll initiative for horses if they are ridden, they always act on their riders initiative. |
| CrazyArtificer04-20-08, 01:55 PM | Just found a much bigger issue. In round 9 S'lertak hits Eland for 11 hp, which aren't reported in the status. Eland should lose in round 17. This also means that Furia surely survives (dropped in round 13), and Bobi II should as well (reaching -10 in round 17, but as he acts after Eland if Eland loses it should be healed just before dying) However round 12 hit for Eland lacks 1d6 sneak attack. If my claim is correct on round 11 weirdness, round 13 hit should also have 1d6 sneak attack factored in. BTW: Eland d20: 32 rolls, 8.2 average |

BTW: Eland d20: 32 rolls, 8.2 average Hate it when I waste time running extra rounds. Yup Eland loses in round 17. How are ally deaths handled? Seems to me Bobi II should still die because healer aren't going to instantly teleport in and heal him before he gets to -10. Does the opponent have the ability to go back and ensure death or do they have to do that before dropping the opponent? (Have to remember to reduce allies to -10 with Orgauth if he has a strong chance of winning or if he's going to lose just to bother the opponent.) As for round 11, there were attack rolls I just forgot to modify the line to say misses. Round 12 didn't have sneak attack because the horse needed to 5 foot step before flanking. I suppose Eland should delay his attack until the horse flanks. It doesn't matter since 1d6 isn't going to change the result. Orgauth had d20: 7 rolls, 6.4 average for his fight. Not as many rolls of course but still feel robbed by bad luck. Not that I expected to win but I would have liked something other than last place. |
| TelinArtho04-20-08, 04:16 PM | As long as the ally is not at -10 (well - excluding constructs and undead anyway) - and the fight ends - they are allowed to be brought to the next fight. So if they are bleeding and at -9 when the fight ends - it doesn't matter if they would have stabilized or not in the next round - they are considered alive. Haven't looked at the fight yet - when I do I'll add my own comments - but it does look like I won - so no biggie... |

Not that I expected to win but I would have liked something other than last place. Telin already answered you on the other issue, so I'll just say you thanks for fixing the fight. I bet the roller is biased against dwarves and orcs.. |
| TelinArtho04-20-08, 09:06 PM | @Turanson - Dr Funk pointed out to me that there is still one missing trip attempt for the hit in round 10 by Nanook. Otherwise he's fine with the fight. Note though that Sunstroke should have a total of +9 to resist trip (+5 str, +4 size) due to powerful build. |
| TelinArtho04-21-08, 09:59 AM | Uguudok vs Mekhoar is up. |
| JackSnape04-21-08, 12:57 PM | Uguudok vs Mekhoar is up. Well it's not a very satisfying first fight, but a win is a win I guess. |
| McJarvis04-21-08, 01:12 PM | Well it's not a very satisfying first fight, but a win is a win I guess. If it appeases you at all- surrenders are very rare :) |

I can't get the reward section to make sence |
| whitebaron04-21-08, 01:44 PM | *placeholder-post* i'll give you the full rewards and how to calculate them soon here in this post. since there are only characters with class allies and NO ally penalties at all, this is pretty straigthforward: 1st place gets 1200(win-reward) + 400(loser-reward)* 3(number of opponents) = 2400 2nd place gets 400(loser reward) + 400(loser-reward)* 2 (number of opponents excluding the winner) = 1200 3nd place gets 400(loser reward) + 400(loser-reward)* 1 (number of opponents excluding #1 and #2) = 800 last place only gets loser reward = 400 generally speaking, one could also write: xth place of n gets 400+ 400* (n-x) = 1200, 800, 400 1st place of n gets 1200 + 400*(n-1) if there would be any PC or ally rewards, it would get a bit more complicated - but basically, we're done now. |
| Turanson04-21-08, 01:51 PM | Thanks Thanio vs. Breyis up no tactic from Brey |
| whitebaron04-21-08, 02:08 PM | Thanks Thanio vs. Breyis up no tactic from Brey np, it's actually quite easy. :) |
| Turanson04-21-08, 02:29 PM | I'm sure it is ones one know what to do :) rewards for the 4 way is up |
| Yitzi04-21-08, 09:57 PM | I dont really understand why Max has to roll a concentration check in round 5, but it doesnt matter anyway. Because you were busy casting (since astral construct is a 1 round spell), and he cast a distracting spell. It's not only damaging spells that require a concentration check, so do other distracting spells (DC=DC of save+level of spell to be held on to). |
| McJarvis04-22-08, 12:10 AM | first six rounds of the huge team fight in the forest are up. more to come in morning. |
| Salrantol04-22-08, 06:47 AM | first six rounds of the huge team fight in the forest are up. more to come in morning.Other than wondering what I did to round 5, all I have to say is that Snake-Eyes' Animal Affinity should be on himself (I think it was just a bookkeeping error) and should reflect his ML of 6. |
| Salrantol04-22-08, 06:58 AM | first six rounds of the huge team fight in the forest are up. more to come in morning.I also see something in Darian's tactics that wouldn't work by the rules and thought you should know. He wanted to manifest Control Body on Undeath From Above.Target: One Medium or smaller creature with humanoid physiology Duration: Concentration, up to 1 min./level Saving Throw: Fortitude negatesImmunity to any effect that requires a Fortitude save (unless the effect also works on objects or is harmless).Since Control Body requires a Fortitude save and does not also work on objects, it cannot affect Undeath From Above. |

Check out the discussion there.Ah, I see, when I went to look at the power I didn't really get past the part I quoted, since I saw the combination of "creature" and "Fortitude negates" and thought, "Undead type ftw" and didn't read farther. Never mind then. |

| Yitzi04-22-08, 11:43 AM | lonewolf, you forgot to apply the ally penalty and bonus to Torik vs. Volley (the horse was prebuffed; even if it didn't see action, it should be no different than leaving out a prebuffed ally because it's huge and your fight is in the sewer). It should be 1125 xp/gp for Torik, and 225 for Volley. Please fix it so I can adjust Torik. |
| dulsi04-22-08, 11:48 AM | Rewards for S'lertak vs. Eland is done. |

| MindWandererB04-22-08, 05:17 PM | Gak vs 2 driders is up Looks good, but rewards are 2025 xp and 3375 gp (don't use the XP:GP ratio when you don't have to). Also, there's an hour and a half left on FoM. |
| whitebaron04-22-08, 05:24 PM | Lelenia & Verren vs Flutterthought is up thank you for the run. it seems i had a lot of luck with where flutterthought wanted to go, given my tactics. natural 1 on the save vs. glitterdust was quite a sight (or blindness?), too. |
| Sjiggie04-22-08, 06:53 PM | Looks like I won't be able to get to fights until tonight. sorry guys. Any Idea when you're able to finish them. Will it be before the pairings. Do take your time for it I don't mind having it hold over but I rather avoid if its possible. Sjiggie |
| McJarvis04-23-08, 12:23 AM | TEDs & Enoch vs Darian is done. I will attempt to do my other fight tomorrow on my lunch break ~ 11am est. I should have rewards up a few hours before the pairings, if that helps those competitors at all. Sorry for all this. I've been a bit of a mess the last two weeks. |

| McJarvis04-23-08, 11:53 AM | Don't worry, we are all busy these days :P Yeah...I've feel like I've been busy for the last ten years. Balancing trying to maintain a social & dating life, taking care of disabled parents who can't live alone, and trying to launch a career in a brand new field is taking its toll on me. Looks like this fight will be held over. I never got notified that the company's anniversary lunch is today & I have to attend whether I like it or not. ~McJ~ |
| Sjiggie04-23-08, 01:16 PM | Don't worry this stuff happens |
| CrazyArtificer04-23-08, 01:41 PM | Not a problem for me. Thanks for the run so far |
| lonewolf04-23-08, 02:54 PM | @McJarvis: Darian only used 51 pp in this weeks fight. Also on first glance it looks to me that you didnt include his political career(didnt do the math yet) thanks for fixing. |
| McJarvis04-23-08, 11:03 PM | I believe Gradak vs Uranedal is done. Let me know if either of you really want me to continue the fight. |
| CrazyArtificer04-24-08, 06:07 AM | I am fine this way ;) |
| Sjiggie04-24-08, 06:46 AM | I'm fine with it as well nothing much Gradak can do about the web/swarm combo thanks for the run |
| McJarvis04-24-08, 09:24 AM | @McJarvis: Darian only used 51 pp in this weeks fight. Also on first glance it looks to me that you didnt include his political career(didnt do the math yet) thanks for fixing. power resistance - 9 astral constructs - 18 force screen- 1 defensive precog - 1 control body - 9 solicit psicrystal - 5 energy ball - 10 == 53 pp |
| lonewolf04-24-08, 09:38 AM | My mistake was that I somehow thought that solicit psicrystal is only a 2nd lvl power. But this makes the whole thing an even greater mess: Darian is only allowed to use 51pp in that fight, so that last Astral Construct is not possible... As much as I hate to give you this additional work, I believe this needs to be fixed. |
