| McJarvis01-16-08, 02:22 PM | Please don't edit the sheet after the deadline or you will lose the match. News & Whatnot The Council has decided to begin publishing its predictions of the outcomes of gladiator fights. Once the pairings are rolled, look back to this thread to see the Council's predictions. So far in 2008 The Council has been correct 55% of the time. [16(correct)/29(total) fights observed] In this weeks fights, the council has been correct --% of the time [--(correct)/--(total) fights observed] Color-highlighted fights are included in ECL statistics below. Green colored fights were correct Red colored fights were incorrect ECL3 -=Council Correct 5/10 Times=- 50% Gimrel Sithraldor (CrazyArtificer) vs. Sunstroke Reborn (MindWandererB) S'lertak Ssilva (TelinArtho) vs. Jog Stonebreaker (Thaylen) Varuxor (CrazyArtificer) vs. Calidor Tyrbelel (Nabuchadnezzar) ECL4 -=Council Correct 7/10 Times=- 70% Altair (Hirumajoe) vs. Thorell Runesmith (McJarvis) Vivi (Dr.Funk) vs. Korwald Barandar (lonewolf) ECL5 -=Council Correct 1/3 times=- 33% Rolf (Dr.Funk) vs. Verren FireStarter (whitebaron) ECL6 -=Council Correct 2/4 times=- 50% The shadow (Rauul) vs. Gwerdan Grummler (whitebaron) The Dark One (templer10) vs. Valanthe Valassar (Sjiggie) ECL7 -=Council Correct 4/5 times=- 80% VarjoECL 9 (Stormwind) vs. The Eternal Dreamless Sleep (Party) and Gakhnalak Strongjaw (MindWandererB) Darian Thorne (lonewolf) vs. Flutterthought (MindWandererB) Mithos Durrol (Zevox) vs. Wiener Wadlbeisser (lonewolf|whitebaron|mucki) ECL9 -=Council Correct 1/1 times=- 100% ECL11 -=Council Correct 1/1 times=- 100% ECL12 -=Council Correct 0/1 times=- 0% ECL13 -=Council Correct 1/3 times=- 33% Lord Lorian (templer10) vs. Samuel Highground (lonewolf) Rules of Gladius All that you need to know is written in the Rules of Gladius. It could be useful also to give a look to the Court Decisions Part 1 and Part 2. Please do not make fake accounts or insult the Elders. Pairings GM MindwandererB will pair the active Characters of Gladius after the deadline. Link to pairings. Make sure that your character is not in prison. Pitlording You should use the CoCo Dice Roller (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com) for the fight. If you need it, there is a nice template ready to use that will help. You could find the Battle Map Tag Generator (http://www.hwx.it/coco) for dynamic Maps very useful. You must post a link to your fight in this thread when it is complete. If you need a quick and dirty tool to calculate distances between two points (in 2-D or 3-D), this tool (http://wormhole.ath.cx/coco/coco_dist.php) should suffice. Another useful link is the Quick Access tables for XP and Gold. If a fight needs to be rerun, the Pitlord has to inform the Pitlords account. He cannot react to requests from Players because the other player and the pitlord might disagree. He has no time to read the fight and the discussion. Please keep that in mind. PMs from players with rerun requests won't have an impact. Comments & Concerns Post any comments or concerns for this weeks fights in this thread. Be kind and courteous to your fellow posters, and don't feed the pitlords. Please remember that they do hard work and consume a lot of time to let you play. Above all, have FUN! If you have questions or comments on any of the changes, please make your posts be heard in the Council of Gladius! |
| TelinArtho01-16-08, 02:35 PM | Fights of the Week: 9 January 2008 Well - at least you got the year right this time... |
| whitebaron01-16-08, 02:39 PM | well, this might lead to some confusion, as i believe you can't edit the title of a thread. |
| McJarvis01-16-08, 02:39 PM | Well - at least you got the year right this time... I was still working on it! RE: WB: you can, and I did :) |
| whitebaron01-16-08, 02:41 PM | ah, nice from wizards to enable that feature - is usually turned off on public boards to avoid distractions by people who change topic names to often :) |
| whitebaron01-16-08, 03:23 PM | damn, just realized lelenia leveled. should have noticed that before... speed leveling won't get me before the deadline i guess *g* |
| Rauul01-16-08, 03:40 PM | Shadow and Graashnak sit back waiting for the pairings.... hoping Flutterbutt is missing this week... Damn invisible Fairys anyways |
| MindWandererB01-16-08, 03:42 PM | damn, just realized lelenia leveled. should have noticed that before... speed leveling won't get me before the deadline i guess *g* I haven't started pairings yet--you can have another 20 minutes. Edit: Um, she levelled? How? 4736/6000 + 1152 = 5888/6000. |
| whitebaron01-16-08, 03:44 PM | I haven't started pairings yet--you can have another 20 minutes. thank you for the offer - but since i missed mentally preparing for level up, i would only make some mistakes in levelling since i'd do it in a rush without thinking what to really take. 3 active chars should be enough, anyway. :) |

| McJarvis01-16-08, 05:31 PM | Oooo- Thorell gets a rematch against an old nemisis. Should be a fun week :D |
| Hirumajoe01-16-08, 05:39 PM | Oooo- Thorell gets a rematch against an old nemisis. Should be a fun week :D I think I'll be betting on Thorell this week. Altair can't possibly get as lucky as the last time. And well, once you're in melee things don't look so good for the Shaper... (Sundered dorje here we come...) |
| McJarvis01-16-08, 05:40 PM | I think I'll be betting on Thorell this week. Altair can't possibly get as lucky as the last time. And well, once you're in melee things don't look so good for the Shaper... (Sundered dorje here we come...) /me waves hand Ignore the adamantine weapon.... |
| templer1001-16-08, 06:00 PM | Sauro - Monster has been rolled - no knowledge - 3 medium humanoid looking females. |
| Durzulgor01-16-08, 06:49 PM | damn! I forgot to correct Undurion's title line! -.- had everything else correct *damn* |
| Rauul01-16-08, 07:38 PM | @T10 Shadows tactics Sent... know you hate sneaks but well Blame MWB not Shadow |
| Zevox01-16-08, 10:27 PM | Well, Mithos' match is going to be interesting this week. At first glance I doubt a bunch of ECL 4s will be any match for him, but the map isn't exactly his favorite either (little space for flying...), and I know his hp isn't too good for his level, so I'll have to be careful. @ My Pitlords - Expect tactics tomorrow evening or Friday morning. For Arden dependent upon when I get the monster info too, of course. Or maybe not... Zevox |
| TelinArtho01-17-08, 08:36 AM | @CrazyArtificer - S'lertak's tactics have been sent. Have fun pitlording. |
| CrazyArtificer01-17-08, 08:40 AM | got them. It seems a fun fight to pitlord, indeed. At least I don't have to care about a zillion of different spells/powers :) @Durzulgor. Tactics for Varuxor sent. @Thaylen. Tactics for Gimrel sent. @Nabuchadnezzar. Ci si scontra presto! In bocca al lupo. |
| hogarth01-17-08, 10:04 AM | Hey McJarvis -- any chance of running a few rounds of the Fracas in the Forest tonight? I know you don't like running fights on the weekend, so it can't hurt to get an early start, right? :) |
| McJarvis01-17-08, 10:33 AM | Hey McJarvis -- any chance of running a few rounds of the Fracas in the Forest tonight? I know you don't like running fights on the weekend, so it can't hurt to get an early start, right? :) I'll be running the huge battle tonight. I've even sworn off playing The Orange Box until I'm done with that nugget ;) |
| Sjiggie01-17-08, 11:43 AM | @ Salrantol: Meinrad's monster discription is up. 2 small creatures |
| templer1001-17-08, 03:33 PM | Telin - tactics for lord lorian are out. |

| lonewolf01-18-08, 06:11 AM | All my tactics are away, except for the Team fight. Mucki will send those. |
| Durzulgor01-18-08, 06:14 AM | @Crazy: Tactics for Durz sent, hope they're not too confusing! Btw: Would you mind revealing the monster? My tactics are away and I'm soooooo curious! ^^ |
| CrazyArtificer01-18-08, 02:32 PM | @Durzulgor. I wanted to run your fight this afternoon, but with gleemax troubles you'll have to wait for Monday, at least. I'm sorry. Anyway you're going to fight a.. drum roll.. Dire Wolverine ;) @Thaylen. I still miss your tactics. I'm going to extend the deadline to Sat, 9 PM GMT due to gleemax troubles. I won't be online until Monday anyway, but I like to hear a word if you are late with tactics, otherwise you get the normal deadline like everyone else. |
| TelinArtho01-18-08, 02:34 PM | I believe I have all of the tactics I need at this point. I might or might not get the chance to run one today - we'll see. |
| Zevox01-18-08, 03:53 PM | @ templer10 - Tactics for Mithos vs the team with a name I can't pronounce have been PMed. Sorry they're late, but for some reason I couldn't log on earlier when I was going to send them. Zevox |
| whitebaron01-18-08, 04:03 PM | @ templer10 - Tactics for Mithos vs the team with a name I can't pronounce have been PMed. Sorry they're late, but for some reason I couldn't log on earlier when I was going to send them. Zevox well, then just use the translation. viennese calf biters. ;) whole gleemax was down btw. for about 6-8 hourse i believe. |
| TelinArtho01-18-08, 04:27 PM | Lord Lorian (templer10) vs Samuel Highground (lonewolf) is up. t10 got no love in that fight... none at all. EDIT - I didn't apply an ally penalty for Lord Lorian since he had "Super Wing" prebuffed - and that ally was killed in week 1. It seems in his tactics that he assumed Wing was prebuffed though - so I'm not certain (doesn't matter except for rewards since Samuel would use intimidate anyway). |

It seems in his tactics that he assumed Wing was prebuffed though - so I'm not certain (doesn't matter except for rewards since Samuel would use intimidate anyway). 1 problem - iam now checking implications - In round 8 - when lorian manifests the first energy missiles- he is invisible and outside of touchsight range, so he's invisible- Samuel has No dex, so he fails his save and takes the full dmg. |
| TelinArtho01-18-08, 04:51 PM | Just because you are invisible does not mean he doesn't get a reflex save or his dex to his reflex save - unless you see a rule that I don't. Will double check to be sure though. |
| whitebaron01-18-08, 04:54 PM | flatfooted tells that you lose your dex to ac, not to your saves. even though it makes no sense, saves are not effected by whether you see the origin of the effects or not. |
| McJarvis01-18-08, 04:56 PM | flatfooted tells that you lose your dex to ac, not to your saves. even though it makes no sense, saves are not effected by whether you see the origin of the effects or not. Well if it makes no sense maybe we should house rule it. |

Will double check to be sure though. hmm - just checked - with invisiblity the other guy Lose Dex to AC but doesnt say he lose Dex to saves, odd. |

EDIT: but rewards are definately wrong. (3(pegasus) + 1/6(donkey))/11 * 25% = 7.1969696% |
| templer1001-18-08, 05:12 PM | Gwerden vs the shadow is up (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=14859400&postcount=1659). |
| TelinArtho01-18-08, 05:22 PM | @lonewolf - the pegasus has an ECL - so that is used: ECL6 + CR1/6 = 6 1/6 This was something that was done wrong for so long here and was recently discovered when Aquin brought in his griffon "too early" ... |
| Hirumajoe01-18-08, 07:01 PM | Lord Lorian (templer10) vs Samuel Highground (lonewolf) is up. t10 got no love in that fight... none at all. It seems in his tactics that he assumed Wing was prebuffed though - so I'm not certain (doesn't matter except for rewards since Samuel would use intimidate anyway). Note that you cannot ready an action to take a Charge. Charging is a full round action. You can take a charge as a standard action only when you're restricted to a standard action or move action. If you *can* ready an action to take a charge, that leads to all sorts of fun stuff. Such as taking a move action, readying to charge upon the opponent taking any action. You effectively can move your first move action's worth in any way you like, through difficult terrain etc, and then charge for the final half. Perhaps what Samuel was doing was delaying (I don't think the order matters much for these). |
| TelinArtho01-18-08, 09:16 PM | Yeah - a delay would be more appropriate. Had a leave of my senses there. |
| whitebaron01-19-08, 06:56 AM | Gwerden vs the shadow is up (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=14859400&postcount=1659). except for my crappy tactics, i have one problem with this fight: the whole reason for tumbling away AFTER attacking is that shadow NEEDS to take an AoO to attack me again. tumbling so that he can just 5ft-step and attack again is pretty silly. as is tumbling before attacking... since they need to come in, and shadow has no ranks in tumble, i should get 2 AoOs - which might not change anything, but still - that's the reason i told to only use AoOs on shadow in the first place... |
| Rauul01-19-08, 06:44 PM | since they need to come in, and shadow has no ranks in tumble, i should get 2 AoOs - which might not change anything, but still - that's the reason i told to only use AoOs on shadow in the first place... I think you forget Shadow has Mobility (+4 to ac w/Aoo's due to Movement) |
| whitebaron01-19-08, 06:54 PM | I think you forget Shadow has Mobility (+4 to ac w/Aoo's due to Movement) even at higher ac, its 2 attacks more, since mobility does nothing about them. |
| templer1001-20-08, 01:50 AM | even at higher ac, its 2 attacks more, since mobility does nothing about them. Ill have to check it tommarow (or tuesday) iam having computer problems so i can only connect from work Until i fix it. |
| whitebaron01-20-08, 04:40 PM | The Dark One slaughters Valanthe well, dice got absolutely no love for Valanthe this time... |
| Sjiggie01-20-08, 07:48 PM | Nothing Valanthe could do about it if he had won Initiative energy adaption would have saved him and missing the second save by 1 point is a real pity whoever is facing him in his last battle is facing someone him and his cohort with all their pp still available should be fun. I'll start on my fights tomorrow -Sjiggie |

| Durzulgor01-21-08, 09:38 AM | When the Gods don't like your character (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=14849093&postcount=1657) is up. Ouch! Well, 2 things though... 1) I stated in my tactics to use the cold-iron greatswod to sunder the bars, so I wound NOT use up the dissolving weapon on my MW-greatsword. 2) sundering a AC5 bar without power attack is rather pointless when you do have +4 to hit WITH full power attack. Those 4 extra damage each time are enough to let me through before being eaten! |
| CrazyArtificer01-21-08, 09:43 AM | Ouch! I missed point 1, but you didn't mention point 2 in your tactics. I just applied your tactics, so next time mention it ;) |
| Durzulgor01-21-08, 10:06 AM | well, if sticking to tactics as written to the letter is your point: as I already mentioned in the pm: I didn't state to squeeze through the bars BEFORE 2 where sundered, since I perfectly well knew that a DC20 escape-artist check is just wasted time with my +2 on it! *memo to myself: don't forget to mention things that you deem obvious, next time. (+4 to hit with power attack vs AC5 bars)* |
| CrazyArtificer01-21-08, 10:13 AM | I see little point in writing the same things by PM and public, so let's just stick to public. Copy and paste from PM Well.. Sunder the second bar and stow the greatsword if nothing is close by, otherwise squeeze through the bars to get them between me and the enemy. I read it as: If the enemy isn't close sunder. If the enemy IS close squeeze. I didn't stick 100% to tactics as I actually had you try to sunder the bars anyway (DC 20 is just too hard for you and I decided you had better chances that way). The point is not about reading tactics and applying them like a robot, but just assuming that everything one char wants to use should be wrote in tactics. Let's assume you face a character with Psionic Weapon. What if he came up with a sentence like "Hey, but it's clear that on my first strike I would have expended my focus and used the feat, even though it wasn't mentioned. It's still clear.. otherwise why focus at all?". While it makes sense to use Power Attack to sunder those bars (and I would have done it myself) you should write it in your tactics if you want a pitlord to apply it. Remember that a pitlord shouldn't run any character in a way that gives him any advantage compared to what his owner wrote in his tactics. So, don't take this wrong but this time is a no to a rerun. Feel free to drop a line or two to TelinArtho or MWB if you feel I'm wrong. |
| McJarvis01-21-08, 10:14 AM | *memo to myself: don't forget to mention things that you deem obvious, next time. (+4 to hit with power attack vs AC5 bars)* I would have done the exact same thing Crazy did. It's not a pitlords job to make sure the gladiators are running efficiently. |
| templer1001-21-08, 10:47 AM | I would have done the exact same thing Crazy did. It's not a pitlords job to make sure the gladiators are running efficiently. second. |
| mucki01-21-08, 10:58 AM | *memo to myself: don't forget to mention things that you deem obvious, next time. (+4 to hit with power attack vs AC5 bars)* Especially with things like PA you should always specify exactly how you want it used. Also something most pitlords do not use by default: run (even "get there as fast as you can", does not make all pitlords use run. In general I always found it much easier to just write exactly what I want. You get used to it, and if you repeat yourself often, just copy it into your default tactics block. |
| Durzulgor01-21-08, 11:39 AM | Sunder the second bar and stow the greatsword if nothing is close by, otherwise squeeze through the bars to get them between me and the enemy. I read it as: If the enemy isn't close sunder. If the enemy IS close squeeze. Well, here's the classical case of common misunderstanding. Should've made it more clear, that I assumed to be squeezing through or putting my GS away in the same round as I sundered the second bar. I'll just try to write my future tactics as if speaking to a machine. Please, at least correct the rewards section, since, according to my tactics, I should still have my dissolving weapon running on my MW-greatsword. |
| templer1001-21-08, 11:45 AM | I'll just try to write my future tactics as if speaking to a machine. don't take it personally - some pitlords improvise more and use more "common sense", some less, if you don't write it into tactics you are essentially at the mercy of the pitlord, So the best bet is to overwrite rather then underwrite stuff. |
| Durzulgor01-21-08, 11:49 AM | @T10: I didn't mean that offensive, sorry if it sounds that way. I'll just try to weed out any possible flaws in my tactics that I think are obvious "to do" thingies and a machine would just not do. Ps: I do know, that there are just 10 types of ppl out there, those that understand what I mean, and those that don't. |

Ps: I do know, that there are just 10 types of ppl out there, those that understand what I mean, and those that don't. If you want an Extreme version of what to write- look at some of my own tactics- i write for basicly anything i can think about So i almost never argue about tactics interpritation (only once or twice in my memory), just on rules etc. on other hand - i do Overwrite. |

| CrazyArtificer01-21-08, 12:26 PM | Please, at least correct the rewards section, since, according to my tactics, I should still have my dissolving weapon running on my MW-greatsword. Done. I'll just try to write my future tactics as if speaking to a machine. I don't like this attitude. All this CoCo thing is a game, played by people which has different degrees of understanding of the "Common" language. Ambiguous sentences can be interpreted in different ways (that happened to me at least once) so the only solution is to be straight-forward and clear. If you take some time to look at my fights, you'll notice how my tactics went from pretty messy to a more streamlined version. I still write ambiguous sentences here and there, but if they are misinterpreted I just try to write them in a better way next time. Also remember: given CoCo is a game, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. |
| whitebaron01-21-08, 03:05 PM | Darian - Flutter i hope someone can run the fight for me - for i can't focus on anything in the moment - grandpa died. |
| CrazyArtificer01-21-08, 03:25 PM | Darian - Flutter i hope someone can run the fight for me - for i can't focus on anything in the moment - grandpa died. I'm really sorry whitebaron. Please accept my sincere condolonces for your loss |

Thanks for the run. Just as a note (and this applies to all pitlords) - make sure you write the CL/ML of expendables that are used. It may not matter in some cases, but it is better to get in the habit of listing them than to have confusion about it down the road. |
| McJarvis01-21-08, 11:10 PM | The huge team vs Varjo and her reproducing ghosts is done. I'm absolutely confident that I missed some AoO's that varjo deserves- but oh well. linky (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=14829971&postcount=1651) |
| McJarvis01-22-08, 12:01 AM | Raul's monster fight is done. Great tactics on your part raul- those griffons just had a monstrous amount of hp behind them. |
| templer1001-22-08, 02:01 AM | Due to the fact my computer broke down from saturday and i got a new one late yesterday (late in my time zone anyway) So i dont have time to run Kracknol's Monster fight, It's VS 3 Green hag sorcerers 9, Tactics Below, If someone wants to pick it up. Note - i will have time to run my other fight Hi templer10, I'm not sure what the foes are going to be, but the most likely is that there are three 9th level sorcerer green hags. These girls will have a tremendous casting ability. Kracknol starts in the back of his starting area with Axe in hand 1) Manifest Energy Adaptation and move behind a nearby statue for cover. 2) Manifest Greater Concealing Amorphia and try to move to melee. 3+) Use 1pp for Expansion (from Pearl of Power) and move to force melee with superior movement speed. Use the boots of flying if needed. 4+) Attack with deep impact/power attack (+6). Charge is preferable, and if a charge is possible, then power attack +8. Try and use reach to prevent escape without provoking an AoO. Kracknol has 22pp to spend in this battle. The above buffs will take 11 points. The remaining 11 points are to be used for contingencies. After loosing Psionic Focus, Kracknol will use a move action to regain focus and continue to press melee with deep impact and power attack. Do this unless the situation doesn't allow the time for a move action to recover focus. Contingencies: If Kracknol needs to make a will save, the 3 pearls of power can be used like a cognizance crystal to manifest Empty Mind. Use them as needed to make will saves. If Kracknol is trapped in a force cage, then use Dimension Door to escape and get into melee. If Kracknol thinks one of the foes is invisible, then manifest Touchsight. (Kracknol doesn't have enough pp to do both this and Dimension Door, so he won't use Touchsight unless at least one of his foes is out of the battle. Instead use the stone of synesthete and psicrystal can help with pinpointing the foe). Kracknol has two stones of Body Purification that he can use to recover ability damage. Notes: Dwarves get a +2 save bonus vs all spells. Kracknol's blade causes dispel ML15 on a hit. That may be very valuable for stripping buffs from the foes if they are casters. Kracknol has 6 rounds of haste. Use them liberally to enter melee. Also use them if Kracknol has a chance to make a full attack. Power attack with a two handed weapon causes 2x damage. Thanks, Sauro |

| Rauul01-22-08, 06:28 AM | Raul's monster fight is done. Great tactics on your part raul- those griffons just had a monstrous amount of hp behind them. thanks... Just another Lost for the half-orc.. Gonna go for the most loses with him.. to ecl 10.. BTW can i have the Link? |
| hogarth01-22-08, 07:04 AM | The huge team vs Varjo and her reproducing ghosts is done. I'm absolutely confident that I missed some AoO's that varjo deserves- but oh well. linky (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=14829971&postcount=1651) Wow, that was some mighty bad rolling. :) The only thing I noticed is that Snake-Eyes died even though she only took 4+4+5+5 = 18 Str damage (out of 19). I doubt that one extra round will make much difference, but you never know. Could you add it in? |
| Stormwind01-22-08, 08:47 AM | The huge team vs Varjo and her reproducing ghosts is done. I'm absolutely confident that I missed some AoO's that varjo deserves- but oh well. linkyThanks for the run. Looks good ... seems the dice liked me this week :D (I've mentioned a couple of things below, but I don't see any need for edits on my account) To answer your question in the fight:I don't think there's a chance to dispel something cast on his weapon. Correct me if I'm wrong? In this case, No, only dispels effects on target. If Varjo had attacked the weapon (sunder/disarm/etc), then yes. Just a note (minor point - although pretty much irrelevant), you didn't mention the falling damage for Snake-eyes once her levitate was dispelled. The falling would also provoke AoO's from all three shadows, as it is movement out of a threatened square, and provide varjo's shadows with the opportunity for another dive attack. Edit:Actually, I just realized that if you add in the 3 shadows AoO's for Snake-eyes falling when her levitate is dispelled, that might take care of that 1 point of str that hogarth mentioned ;) |
| McJarvis01-22-08, 09:04 AM | Thanks Stormwind. I added a "touchup" section to the roller for those 3 AoO's I missed & they did an extra 10 str damage to Snake Eyes. @Hogarth: And yeah- the dice wern't with you. Nobody could touch Varjo. |
| TelinArtho01-22-08, 09:51 AM | @Hirumajoe - clarification requested for Altair's tactics. Looks like I'll be late running the fight - but I'll see if I can get it in today. I had a few teeth that were causing me some trouble this weekend - but I'm much better now... |
| McJarvis01-22-08, 10:03 AM | Firestarter vs Rolf is done. Dice were with the Firestarter this week. |
| Rauul01-22-08, 10:10 AM | Raul's monster fight is done. Great tactics on your part raul- those griffons just had a monstrous amount of hp behind them. Proably won't save me.. but every round they are in the area effect of Entangle they need to make a save.. If they spend a FULL round breaking free, they have to make the save the next round or be held again.. (and if they make the save they get 1/2 movement) But yea 2 griffons (118 hps combined) is a little much for the Poor melee half-orc.. |

I request we don't pitlord each other again, as we seem able to "dispel luck" on our chars :) After checking those rolls I have a question on the round 15 one: Calidor has base AC 14. Add mage armor and protection from evil and this goes up to 20. This means (if I don't miss anything) which the last shot goes in and crits (as the following roll is another 19+2). Yet, it's hard I can drop him with 2d8 ;) |
| Durzulgor01-22-08, 11:02 AM | Yup, we should definitely do something about our dice! ^^ As for the hitting thingie: AC 14 to start with, +4 Mage armor, +4 cover => AC 22. That alone negates the hit, barely, but still! ^^ Apart from that: As I mentioned in the comments: His scrolls are CL2 (waht I forgot, but didn't correct since it won't change anything), so he still has shield and reduce person running => +4 shield, +2 reduce person (+1 size +1 dex) => AC 28 |
| hogarth01-22-08, 11:05 AM | rewards for the varjo fight are finalized. I hate to say this, but you missed a large number of miss chances for everyone (due to the Deeper Darkness on Snake-Eyes's ring). Do you think you can add those in tonight? |

| Stormwind01-22-08, 11:28 AM | rewards for the varjo fight are finalized. I think the rewards are a little off. If I'm right they should be: Varjo [21.42% ally penalty], Gak [25% ally penalty], TEDS [8.33% ally penalties] Varjo: base [2,700xp, 4,500gp] x 4.75% penalty [(25+8.33)/2 - 21.42] => [2,571xp, 4,286.25gp] Gak: base [700xp, 866gp] x 3.58% penalty [21.42 - 25] => [674xp, 834.99gp] TEDS: base [500xp, 533gp] x 13.09% bonus [21.42 - 8.33] => [565xp, 602.76gp] Edit: hmmm just noticed hogarth's point on the deeper darkness. Good point. Had forgotten about that (it's been a while since I wrote the tactics). I guess I'll just hope that the dice continue to shower me with luck :D Well the ally penalty calculations should still be corrected. ;) |
| hogarth01-22-08, 11:32 AM | I think the rewards are a little off. If I'm right they should be: Varjo [21.42% ally penalty], Gak [25% ally penalty], TEDS [7.14% ally penalties] The TEDS ally penalty is 8.33% (each member has an 8.33% penalty which is averaged between the two of them). I'm not sure where you're getting 7.14% from. |

Point taken ... I saw the part of the team rules that stated that ally penalties are applied to the team as a whole, and missed the part of the rules that stated that any bonus/penalties are averaged. | templer1001-22-08, 01:59 PM | IAm sorry to do this at this late stage, But my week has been swamped All over with my computer breaking Down and iam still only halfway operational - still installing programs And my work has been killing me eve on top of that And i simply dont have time run Mithos Durrol (Zevox) vs. Wiener Wadlbeisser (lonewolf|whitebaron|mucki) : Forest. If someone wants to run it tactics for mithos are Mithos starts in the default position, scroll of mage armor in hand. Regal is on his shoulder, but Majesty has been left behind. General tactics: Buff through the roof so they cannot harm me easily, Round 1: Cast Mage Armor from scroll, drop, draw wand of shield. Round 2: Cast Alter Self from memory for Troglodyte form (+6 natural AC, bite & claw natural weapons). Round 3: Use wand, stow it. Round 4: Draw and cast from scroll of expeditious retreat. Round 5: Draw and cast from scroll of enlarge person. Round 6+: Move out to find foes while drawing guisarme. Round X+: Once I spot a foe, battle plan is this: Priority: Khamul > Falko > Crucio Vs Khamul: Open with a Ray of Enfeeblement from memory (use a second if the first somehow misses), then close and use shocking grasp from memory (defensive cast of course). From there, simple weapon attacks ought to do. Try tripping him with my guisarme if he isn’t expanded or raging (note that improved trip only applies when attacking, not defending, so he’ll resist with +9-RoE loss vs my +12). Vs Falko: Hit him with a Ray of Enfeeblement (do this as soon as I spot him, regardless of what else is going on, unless he has cover/other touch AC bonus or I used two on Khamul), then trip/attack him to death with one of my weapons. Vs Crucio: Open with a scorching ray as I close on him, then trip/attack him to death. Notes - Share Mage Armor and shield buffs with Regal, on the off chance he gets targeted. - Spell level breakdown for this match: 2 Alter Self, 2 Ray of Enfeeblement, 1 Shocking Grasp, 1 Scorching Ray. - Mithos gets a free attack after a successful trip due to Improved Trip. - For crossing rivers, just wade across. I’m 10’ tall as a large character, they’re only 5’ deep. - Note Regal’s high spot check and speak with master ability, which will help a lot if Falko tries to hide. Conditionals - If my shield spell runs out, restore with my wand. - If enlarge person runs out, don’t try meleeing Khamul, instead use my MM wand to down him. - If hit by a ray of enfeeblement, don’t melee Khamul or Falko, use MM wand. Presuming Exp Retreat is still up, use that to avoid melee with Khamul while doing so. - If my hp drops to 22 or less and retreat is feasible, withdraw and heal up to 35+ hp using my CLW wand. - If I have trouble hitting Khamul with weapon attacks, use my deadly touch ability (all 10 hp worth) on him to speed things along. - If tripped by Khamul, take total defense before standing. - If weapons are sundered by Khamul, switch to new ones as appropriate (Guisarme/Halberd > Lance > MM Wand > Bow). If I get to the bow, withdraw and dismiss enlarge person, and make this a run-n-gun battle. If all my weapons are destroyed and my spells couldn’t conceivably defeat them, surrender. And that’s what I’ve got. Khamul’s sunder and trip talents are the main threat among them – what I wouldn’t give to be one level higher and thus able to dispel expansion if he uses it – so once hes down this should become much easier. Crucio is almost no threat at all thanks to my AC and shield spell, and Falko will need high rolls to hit my AC, so hes little enough threat (although he could be a real pain if buffed properly by Crucio). This match is going to come down to how quickly Khamul falls I think. If I get him before he can do much, I can mop up the others handily; if not, they may well do enough harm to me to win the day. Anyway, thanks for running the fight! Zevox Hi templer10, thanks for pitlording! Overview We will let Mithos the choice of fighting ranged or in melee. If he stays away we will concentrate on his mount first, and then engage him. If he comes close we will engange him immediately and ignore his mount. In either case Khamul will concentrate on defense, tripping Mithos, either when he charges, or when he goes into melee. Falko will shoot Mithos or the hippogriff (see below), Crucio will use Magic Missiles against the hippogriff or heal (see below) Movement Unless otherwise specified, we will always go clockwise. Khamul upfront, Falko one side behind, Crucio other side behind Our search pattern will be: Move to logs. Cross logs. Move to starting box. check starting box. move to middle. check middle. move to next logs. cross logs. Crossing the Logs: We will try to cross the Logs in the following order: Khamul first while the others wait. Then Falko, then Crucio. While waiting, we will of course ready for LoS on Mithos (see below). Crucio Position and Buffing Start in the corner away from the center of the map, Wand of MM in hand. Rd 1: Cast Bless from memory on the Team Rd 2: Give Platinum Ring to Khamul, Cast Bull's Strength from memory on Khamul Rd 3: Cast Shield Other on Khamul Rd 4: Cast Guidance on Falco Once we make contact with Mithos: Cast Shield from scroll on self If Mithos is at range * Shoot hippogriff with wand of Magic Missile * Use Khamul or vegetation as cover againts a charge. If Mithos is in melee with any party member * If the hippogriff is bothering one of the team, try to cast Touch of Madness from memory on the hippogriff. * If a partymember (most likely khamul) drops below 15 hp, switch to wand of CLW and heal. * Otherwise cast Spiritual Weapon and have it attack Mithos. * Otherwise shoot hippogriff with MM if hippogriff is already damaged. * Otherwise cast Lesser Confusion on Mithos. Falko Position and Buffing Note: Mithos is Falkos favored enemy. Start in the corner away from the center of the map, Bow in left hand, Powerstone of Offensive Precognition in right hand. Rd 1: Manifest Force Screen from memory on self. Rd 2: Manifest Offensive Precognition from Stone (ML2) on self. If Mithos is at range * Shoot hippogriff with bow. Use rapid shots if possible. * Use Khamul or vegetation as cover againts a charge. If Mithos is in melee with any party member * If Mithos is on the ground and grappled, switch to greatsword and attack him with it. * Otherwise shoot him with bow. Use rapid shots if possible. Use Psionic Shot on the first shot on him and use guidance for this attack. Khamul Position and Buffing Start in the corner away from the center, but closer to the center than the other two. Carry Powerstone of Vigor in left hand, Powerstone of Expansion in right hand. Rd 1: Manifest Expansion (ML3) from stone on self. Rd 2: Take Ring from Crucio Rd 3: Manifest Vigor (ML2) from stone on self. Rd 4: Manifest Force Screen from memory on self. If Mithos is at range * Move so that I provide cover against a charge for Falko and Crucio. I do not hesitate to expose myself this way. In fact I want him to try and charge me. * Ready to trip Mithos from the hippogriff when he charges or otherwise moves into range. Use the followup attack form the trip to start a grapple. * If I have nothing better to do, insult him ;-) If Mithos is in melee with any party member * If he is standing then manifest grip of iron (if pp left and not still active), then trip, then follow up to grapple. * While he is in a grapple he cannot stand up, and I will continue to hold him in grapple and use armor spikes for damage. * If grip of iron runs out while i am in a grapple remanifest it until i run out of pp. Power Attack, Combat Expertise, Rage * Once I am in the grapple go into rage. Contingencies * If the hippogriff dies and Mithos still does not come into melee, Khamul will go out and actively engage in melee with him, preferably with a charge. * If Mithos sends her hippogriff to attack us in melee while he himself stays at range, Khamul will attack it (switch to guisarme for that). Crucio will help Khamul with Magic Missiles. Once the hippogriff is dead, see the previous point. * If Mithos is shot down while over the swap, or otherwise ends up in the swamp while we are not in the swamp, Falko and Khamul will both use their bows to shoot him until he is dead or out on safe terrain. * If Mithos is in a tree, Khamul will climb up, grapple him and move to grapple out of the tree (fall), while the others just keep firing ranged/MM. Iam going to have such a credit deficit next week... |

| McJarvis01-23-08, 08:32 AM | Darian - Flutter i hope someone can run the fight for me - for i can't focus on anything in the moment - grandpa died. this one does too. might be easier. |

| CrazyArtificer01-23-08, 08:52 AM | Hmm.. so.. a psion vs a pixie psion or a team fight? well.. I'd start with the 2 psions, at least they're just 2 :) |

| CrazyArtificer01-23-08, 08:58 AM | they haven't been posted... Hello Thaylen, thanks for pitlording. [snip] Edit: uhmm.. ok. Edited. Just let me know if I have to send them to someone :) |
| McJarvis01-23-08, 08:59 AM | they haven't been posted... Hello Thaylen, thanks for pitlording. You don't want to post those. Delete that- there's a chance you'll have to resend them to the next pitlord[and your opponent will too] |

| Hirumajoe01-23-08, 01:54 PM | *looks at roller* looks like I barely made that save. Poor camel, though. *Looks at Altair's sheet*. Apparently, I've listed my Level 1 and 2 Save DC's incorrectly. Level 1 should be DC 10 + 1 + 3 = 14, not 15. Similarly, 2nd level should be 15. Ah well, I'll have to correct that after the fight. But remember, Energy Stun has its DC go up by 1 per extra pp. So the DC is really 17. So Thorell actually failed... |

I was just hoping that was a typo on the damage on telins part :( edit- I still would have failed either way- but didn't we house-rule that powers give at most +1DC/+2PP? |

The only one that was changed to my knowledge was Energy Missile. Apparently, its much more popular than Energy Stun. May have something to do with the range and the extra 2 dice of damage on it. :) But I specifically asked about that awhile back, and the response was the only thing voted on was the Energy Missile (and the Dispel Psionics thing as well). |

Every time I fight in the Forest, folks rule Entangle differently--and I didn't realize we didn't have an official ruling on that. Not much a pixie can do vs. Touchsight on most maps. I could probably argue what was optimal movement, but I don't feel like bothering. Thanks for the run. Edit: Rewards are wrong. ECL 7 is a base 2600 gp for a win, 866 for a loss. |
| TelinArtho01-23-08, 02:34 PM | Altair vs Thorell is up. @McJ - I didn't remount because I didn't see the point in suffering an AoO for it. That said - being mounted would've only mattered in one instance at that point anyway - so I doubt it would have helped you... (in case that's a question that crossed your mind) |

| McJarvis01-23-08, 02:39 PM | RE: Conditional "because I'm mounted" modifier- This is the first fight in 8 fights that I've actually dismounted during combat. Do you really think it's more convenient for the pitlord to not include that? o_O edit- RE: Being mounted- Actually, a fair bit of my strategy _was_ relying on the cover bonus to AC once his dorjes was gone. In a melee fight against him I don't have much of an advantage...but with that cover bonus he would have missed me quite a few times where he hit. edit2- 'rith just reminded me- I'm not pushing for a holdover on that, though. I'd rather play than sit out. |
| TelinArtho01-23-08, 02:48 PM | But its not a "because I'm mounted" modifier. It only counts when you are on higher ground - in this case - against a medium or smaller opponent who is not mounted and is on the ground. Against a large opponent or a medium or smaller opponent who is mounted or against someone who is flying - that bonus is not there. That's the very definition of a "conditional modifier" As for the possible misses: Round 5 - would have hit because it was an attack against an image Round 6 - would have hit even if you made your ride check for cover Round 7 - would have still missed Round 8 and 9 would have still hjt even if you made your ride check for cover. Round 10 would have still missed. Round 11 and 12 would have been in question I can certainly edit it in - but bear you would need a lot of luck to help. Note that none of your misses would have been hits if you were mounted. Edit - on seeing your edit - okay. It stands then. In the future though - certainly specify what to do if dismounted. |

[until this fight- and I was only dismounted due to your improv] Like I said- it's more convenient to just leave it there. |
| lonewolf01-23-08, 02:56 PM | Fixed:) actually now its wrong the other way. At ECL5 and higher xp and gp rewards are not the same. at ECL 7 you have 2100xp and 2600gp as base... |
| hogarth01-23-08, 03:02 PM | Altair vs Thorell is up. @McJ - I didn't remount because I didn't see the point in suffering an AoO for it. Are you suggesting that mounting a camel provokes an AoO? Because it doesn't. |

That said - being mounted would've only mattered in one instance at that point anyway - so I doubt it would have helped you... (in case that's a question that crossed your mind) Thanks for the run. Also, note McJarvis, Altair had specific tactics to *ready an attack when you attacked* if mounted. All the attacks rolled which hit would still have hit for Altair, since he only makes one attack a round anyways. So I don't think McJarvis or Telin should feel bad about how it was run. :) |
| TelinArtho01-23-08, 03:12 PM | @hogarth - no mounting would not draw an AoO. Moving out of a threatened square would have (which is what Thorell would have had to do in order to remount (unless he wanted to spend a round not attacking)). |
| whitebaron01-23-08, 03:18 PM | mcj, i just went over the rewards and 3fc of verren - fight pp used should be 7, Ray of Enfeeblement was used, the rest should be fine though. @ca: thanks for picking up my fight. |

You can five foot step out of striking distance, mount, and then attack. |

| TelinArtho01-23-08, 04:40 PM | No, hogarth is correct. You can five foot step out of striking distance, mount, and then attack. Hmm - you and I disagree... Take 5-Foot Step You can move 5 feet in any round when you don’t perform any other kind of movement. Taking this 5-foot step never provokes an attack of opportunity. You can’t take more than one 5-foot step in a round, and you can’t take a 5-foot step in the same round when you move any distance. You can take a 5-foot step before, during, or after your other actions in the round. You can only take a 5-foot-step if your movement isn’t hampered by difficult terrain or darkness. Any creature with a speed of 5 feet or less can’t take a 5-foot step, since moving even 5 feet requires a move action for such a slow creature. You may not take a 5-foot step using a form of movement for which you do not have a listed speed. If you move onto your mount - you are moving a 5ft distance from your current square onto your mount's square. If you take a 5ft step out of the threatened range - you cannot then mount (because that would be another 5ft of movement. Likewise, you cannot combine the free 5ft step with the action of mounting since you do not have "mount" as a movement type. |
| McJarvis01-23-08, 06:02 PM | Hmm - you and I disagree... So you can't do anything that causes your own movement? I've been using the trick of 5ft stepping and then spending a move action to levitate myself up for years & no one here has stopped me. What about doing something that triggers a bullrush attempt from an opponent? Would you just be stopped from moving, since "you can't move any distance in a round where you take a 5ft step"? I believe the intent of that rule is for actions that are for the intent of moving themselves. Mounting is not such an action. edit- Here's the rules that backup my claims. First of all, as you noted- if you move any distance, you can not take a 5ft step. This is not the same as "if you take a 5ft step, you can not move any distance". You can’t take a 5-foot step in the same round as a charge The simplest move action is moving your speed. If you take this kind of move action during your turn, you can’t also take a 5-foot step. Etc, etc. The reason you can not, under any circumstances, 5ft step and(say) charge is because it's covered on both ends. This is not the case with mounting- that specific move action does not refer to 5' steps at all. edit2- Also note that the 5' step is technically not necessary. CoCo elders in the past have determined that if one thing says you don't draw an AoO- then the entire action doesn't provoke. [Ranged attacks via wands in melee] Mount a horse or dismount No Though personally I disagree with that ruling- it does imply that even if you move through threatened area while mounting a horse, you don't provoke an AoO. [because mounting simply does not.] |
| TelinArtho01-23-08, 06:23 PM | If you've been doing that 5ft step and levitate action for a while - then yes I would tell you that you are wrong. You cannot take a 5ft step and also move out of another square in the same round. In the case of the bullrush - someone else is doing the moving - so it is not the same instance. The highlighted portion of the 5ft step quote I provided is sufficient for my argument and I don't see anything in your quotes that have changed that portion. |
| McJarvis01-23-08, 06:24 PM | The highlighted portion of the 5ft step quote I provided is sufficient for my argument and I don't see anything in your quotes that have changed that portion. It's a simple converse logic error. The part you highlighted doesn't equate to its converse. Add in what I just edited in above about ranged attack-AoO's & previous CoCo decisions, and the matter is more or less settled. |
| CrazyArtificer01-23-08, 07:09 PM | @wb: you're welcome. @lonewolf. Just edit your sheets with the correct amounts, I'll be fixing it. |

[Ranged attacks via wands in melee] Though personally I disagree with that ruling- it does imply that even if you move through threatened area while mounting a horse, you don't provoke an AoO. [because mounting simply does not.]I find this to be a pretty compelling argument, actually--although not for the reason stated. Since it's almost impossible to mount without also moving (you'd have to be sharing the mount's space already), the intent seems pretty clear that this combined move-and-mount shouldn't provoke--nor is it a move action, or part of a move action (if you fast mount). And yes, I know this creates potential abuses if you mount and dismount in the same round, effectively moving as a free action, but I'll hit that with a nerf stick if I see someone abusing it. |
| McJarvis01-23-08, 08:46 PM | I find this to be a pretty compelling argument, actually--although not for the reason stated. Well, what you stated was roughly the reasoning of the council when they decided that- I was trying to infer that the same logic could be used. And yes, I know this creates potential abuses if you mount and dismount in the same round, effectively moving as a free action, but I'll hit that with a nerf stick if I see someone abusing it. I thought about that- but it seems to me that the conditions for such a tactic would be so conditional that they'd almost never happen in the arena. [at least- not in a fashion that you could write tactics for.] |
| hogarth01-23-08, 10:18 PM | I thought about that- but it seems to me that the conditions for such a tactic would be so conditional that they'd almost never happen in the arena. [at least- not in a fashion that you could write tactics for.] I think Tellish_of_Ket said that he was using mount/dismount malarkey -- as a readied action -- to keep interposing a horse in between him and an enemy. That's why they added the "you can't ready an action that would completely negate an attack" house rule. Anyway, if the only movement involved in mounting is a 5' move, I don't see why it would provoke an AoO. Move actions (like drawing a weapon) don't automatically provoke by themselves, and they don't prevent a 5' step. |
