| Sindorin06-29-05, 02:58 PM | This thread is for questions, comments, and concerns solely regarding the pairings, quests, and campaigns for this week. When you comment you should be nice. Being nice is the munchkin way. This is a link to the rules here: The Rules of Gladius (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=448520) |
| Caterane06-29-05, 03:01 PM | Very good introduction Steve!! I'm so proud :D |
| Sindorin06-29-05, 03:10 PM | Heh, I quoted my last intro post and simply changed the comic relief  |
| SoulLord06-29-05, 04:11 PM | Vandelar the red (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6452290&postcount=300) Is ready for this week's Fight. |
| Sindorin06-29-05, 04:28 PM | Attention All: Faded Fate (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=6412548) is now Live. |
| Rim-Soulfang06-29-05, 05:26 PM | Attention All: Faded Fate (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=6412548) is now Live. Ouch, with those late matches i have a slight credit problem. Could someone lend me five credits? |
| Iced06-29-05, 05:35 PM | Missions abroad is still open for applicants. ELC3 and member of the E.H.T.C. are the only requirements. ;) |
| Pitlords06-29-05, 06:49 PM | PAIRINGS DONE Pairings are getting more and more complicated... You know the procedure. Please post you fights on time! Tuesday 8 AM GMT is deadline. It's really the best to run it right away; you have to do it anyway. Credit Changes: +8: King Uther +5: Jindl +4: Huan +2: Malither, Luni, Pittbull, Xanadu, Sindorin, Iced +1: Caterane, SoulLord, Kaigan, Zerone -1: Cerebus, Deadly Assassin, Tellish of Ket -4: Rim-Soulfang -5: Kattattack, Salrantol Please note that someone has to pay for Kattattack (5°) and Rim-Soulfang (4°). Credits for Pitlords: +3: Jindl, King Uther +2: Caterane, Malither, Pittbull, Xanadu, Zerone +1: Cerebus, Huan, Luni, Rim-Soulfang, SoulLord, Kaigan Credits for Questlords/Campaignlords: +6: King Uther +4: Huan +2: Sindorin, Jindl Credits for Active PCs: -1: Caterane, Kaigan Credits for Questers and Adventurers: -1: Caterane, Huan, Kaigan, Deadly Assassin, Tellish, Zerone, King Uther -5: Cerebus, Rim-Soulfang, Kattattack, Salrantol Credits for Special Deeds: +2: Kaigan (story) +1: Caterane (admin), Luni (story), Cerebus (story) Special admiration receives Kaigan, our last weeks storyteller, with his two stories of Varia vs Virgo, and the fight where Merman easily defeated an efreet! Luni's fight was already honorated by giving her a credit, and she gets another one for her nice story in Hagrid vs Greevus. And finally, Cerebus gets a credit for his great description of Ripper vs Meinrad. Guys, I'm really glad that we could read some stories!! Great work. I am also very glad to announce that the first Campaign is up and running! Sindorin's Faded Fate (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=444926) will surely bring us a lot of fun and joy. We will surely all follow the adventures of the five heroes. Steve, you have 6 months. Try to be finished by december. Now on to the Monster fights. Dunewalker fights (1d4 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=110883)) = 3 Skums (65 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=110879)). Luken got paired against (1d3 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=110888)) = 3 Yuan-ti Abominations (84 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=110887)). I have talked directly to WizO_Mel who is the prime connection to WotC. She asked for the source code of the characters thread which I gave her. Let's hope they can fix the problem so that we can soon move back home. Ok guys, enjoy the week. Cat @Huan/Uther: you wrote Quest into the headline but I need more information on that. Also, please open the quest threads with the EL, and I need to know Tellish's quest goal. |
| Sindorin06-29-05, 07:02 PM | I've noticed that the editing problems are not in any way user-related. They seem to be character related. I have been able to edit Va'ria with ease, yet Sasha still remains as she was ready for last week's pairing. I hope this helps. Also, Zerone has informed me that he mistakenly forgot to withdraw Rin from my campaign, and must do so for various RL reasons... so this means that there is a slot open! I need someone, quick! Preferably a melee-type tank person. I can run it with four as it currently stands, but I really would prefer having five characters - and they BADLY NEED a TANK. Also, doesn't Kattattack22 have any credits left over from when he used to be here? I remember him getting many for helping with the world of gladius stuff, pitlording fights, etc. |
| Tellish_of_Ket06-29-05, 07:05 PM | @Iced: What are the requirements to join e.h.t.c? I have a character, The Pale-Rider ready to go. @Caterane: Jindl should be working on a story line for me. I gave him the premiss of it...so if you wanna put a title on it "The Hunt for Kelek's Journal" which as you know was stolen by Iron. -ToK |
| Huan06-29-05, 07:06 PM | *Cracks wine bottle* To the Campaignlords, on their maiden voyages.... Cheers. |
| Sindorin06-29-05, 07:17 PM | Someone PLEASE apply for my campaign with a melee build! If you don't have one, make one! They need YOU! |
| Pitlords06-29-05, 07:30 PM | What about Jimbojones? |
| Iced06-29-05, 07:35 PM | @Iced: What are the requirements to join e.h.t.c? I have a character, The Pale-Rider ready to go. @Caterane: Jindl should be working on a story line for me. I gave him the premiss of it...so if you wanna put a title on it "The Hunt for Kelek's Journal" which as you know was stolen by Iron. -ToK I'd love to include The Pale Rider in my campaign. To join the E.H.T.C. simply write out an introduction in the thread (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=423589). Your name will go on the roster and you will become one of the enlightened ones...;) |
| Tellish_of_Ket06-29-05, 07:45 PM | @Iced: What are the requirements to join e.h.t.c? I have a character, The Pale-Rider ready to go. @Caterane: Jindl should be working on a story line for me. I gave him the premiss of it...so if you wanna put a title on it "The Hunt for Kelek's Journal" which as you know was stolen by Iron. -ToK OOps...forgot. Pale is fighting this week....perhaps next week...my bad -ToK |
| Sindorin06-29-05, 08:08 PM | Tactics for Xaseus Soulrendir have been sent to Rim-Soulfang. THAT should be an interesting fight. |
| Luni06-29-05, 09:06 PM | @Caterane: Tactics sent. @JH316: Tactics received. |
| Huan06-29-05, 10:36 PM | @xanadu Necavi's tactics recieved, thank you. |
| Jindl06-30-05, 01:59 AM | I thought Anna was supposed to be paired? You have her marked as active, but I can't find who she is paired against? |
| Tellish_of_Ket06-30-05, 02:12 AM | @Luni - Tactics for Pale-Rider sent. Good luck to Fasin Rockshield (Jh316), not that he'll need it. I'm seriouisly under prep'd for this fight. I should have passed and spent more time editing him properly for arena fighting instead of questing. @ Jindl - How are things coming along? -ToK |
| xanadu06-30-05, 02:14 AM | Pitolords, did you include the +1 credit for xanadu picking up the tedious Telveran vs. sinnoch fight? |
| Jindl06-30-05, 02:29 AM | @ Jindl - How are things coming along? -ToK I really didn't want to start this weekend, because I will have a very hectic schedule over the holiday. I wanted to begin the quest next week. :( -Jindl |
| Jh31606-30-05, 02:45 AM | Personally, it looks to me like I'll just be color sprayed and then shot to death with a crossbow while I'm stunned for 1d4+1 rounds. Actually, stunned means you can just coup de grace me until I fall over, right? Christ, god forbid you use one of those Summon Monster scrolls beforehand. |
| Malither7606-30-05, 02:51 AM | Hey, is the 4 on 2 fight going to be a seperate thread? And Gareth gets the mighty Mer-Man this should be a fun one Cat, good luck to us both. |
| Pittbull06-30-05, 04:18 AM | @Malither: Yes, the fight (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=455039) in the Jindl-Park will be in a different thread. King U need only to post the position of the fighters and we can go on rolling for initiative. @Cerebus: Hagrid's tactic has been sent via E-Mail. Thank you! @Cat: Käptn Iglo's tactic received :D . |
| Caterane06-30-05, 05:38 AM | I thought Anna was supposed to be paired? You have her marked as active, but I can't find who she is paired against? Ah crap, I thought it was Anna and Laph because JotH is crafting. Ok, then I put your periapt on hold, and Anna fights Luken whose monster fight will be cancelled. |
| Caterane06-30-05, 07:15 AM | @Xanadu: If Necavi wins, he levels to 8 thus is not eligable for the Arbiter War Campaign [EL 6] anymore. |
| Salrantol06-30-05, 07:37 AM | Credit Changes: -5: Salrantol ... Credits for Questers and Adventurers: -5: Salrantol I happen to be very curious as to where exactly that came from. As far as I am aware, my active PCs consist of Felice in an arena fight, Enoch in an extended arena fight, and Meinrad in his second attempt at taking on an ECL 5 foe. Barak is not listed as active, nor on any of the quest or campaign lists. Did it come from...[from Faded Fate] 5. Fei Tan (Salzorin) Wizard 3 (ECL 3) Grey Elf Male? |
| Caterane06-30-05, 07:44 AM | Ts, similar names. Will be corrected. |
| Pitlords06-30-05, 07:47 AM | Hm, Salzorin does not have any credits... Please note that someone has to pay for Kattattack (5°), Rim-Soulfang (4°), and Salzorin (5°). Sindorin? Are you paying for them? |
| Salrantol06-30-05, 07:52 AM | In related news, Barak Brigandslayer did not get paired, though set to ready (unless Enoch's fight got finished, and it didn't). Could he get a monster fight or something please? |
| Pitlords06-30-05, 08:01 AM | We have no Pitlords left. |
| Cerebus1306-30-05, 08:02 AM | Hm, Salzorin does not have any credits... Please note that someone has to pay for Kattattack (5°), Rim-Soulfang (4°), and Salzorin (5°). Sindorin? Are you paying for them?I am paying for Salzorin. |
| Huan06-30-05, 08:05 AM | In related news, Barak Brigandslayer did not get paired, though set to ready (unless Enoch's fight got finished, and it didn't). Could he get a monster fight or something please? Oh, just a monster fight? I can take that. |
| Pitlords06-30-05, 08:18 AM | Barak fights a (95 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=111175)) (79 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=111176)) Will-o'-Wisp. Huan+1°, Cerebus-5°. Who pays for the other two? EDIT: Wait, I have a better idea: Dunewalker has a monster too so we cancel that and pair him against Barak. New Pairing: Dunewalker (LLMadCow) vs Barak Brigandslayer (Salrantol): Kaigan |
| Cerebus1306-30-05, 08:32 AM | Barak fights a (95 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=111175)) (79 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=111176)) Will-o'-Wisp. Huan+1°, Cerebus-5°. New Pairing: Dunewalker (LLMadCow) vs Barak Brigandslayer (Salrantol): Kaigan I can pay for one more if maybe Sindorin can cover the other one....? |
| King Uther06-30-05, 09:02 AM | I'll pay for both. I have excess, and will do what I can to facilitate the credit needs of fellow players. Subtract 9 from my credits. |
| Tellish_of_Ket06-30-05, 09:13 AM | Personally, it looks to me like I'll just be color sprayed and then shot to death with a crossbow while I'm stunned for 1d4+1 rounds. Actually, stunned means you can just coup de grace me until I fall over, right? Christ, god forbid you use one of those Summon Monster scrolls beforehand. @ Jindl: Hhuhm? Jindl, can i CDG someone who is STUNNED? :dancin: Actually no i can't CDG you while u are stunned. But i can easily poke you once or twice. SM I? You? Afraid of SM I? HaHa, have you seen the list of SM I's? I would mainly use those if i had to seek out invisible/stealthed players by summoning spiders. You aren't afraid of spiders that do 1 pt of dmg with a DC 11 poison save and only +3 to hit are you? Gawd, they would need a 20 to hit, and you'd need to roll a 1 on ur save....not the kind of odds i like. But seriously, i'm very much unprepared for this fight. You have a HUGE advantage due to my lack of planning and foresight. I'm still just getting my feet wet and re-learning the process. -ToK |
| Cerebus1306-30-05, 09:17 AM | @Beldin and Pittbull - tactics have been received. I'm going out of town this weekend until Monday evening to visit family and whatnot, but I'll try to sneak some time in on a computer. Otherwise expect the match on Monday night! @Zerone - tactics for Guts sent. @Sindorin - Greevus will make an appearance today for the Campaign, and I should be able to sneak enough computer time in for posts over the weekend (since the hopefully shouldn't require any books :P). |
| Pittbull06-30-05, 09:20 AM | Sneaking out for computer-time ---- I maxed out that skill!! :D |
| Tellish_of_Ket06-30-05, 09:35 AM | I really didn't want to start this weekend, because I will have a very hectic schedule over the holiday. I wanted to begin the quest next week. :( -Jindl Not a problem. I don't mind starting next week. It's posted now, but we won't actually start until next week, ok? i'm cool with dat. -ToK |
| Kaigan06-30-05, 09:52 AM | @All my gladiators: Please send in tactics ASAP, preferably by tonight, and I will run them tonight. I will be out of town for friday, saturday and most of sunday, so if no tactics tonight, then fights will be up sunday evening, fairly rushed. I have plenty of time tonight, so please, please, please get them in today. @All my pitlords: Tactics for my gladiators will be sent tonight. @King Uther: Yay, almost done with Kaigan's quest? @Everyone with an ECL 3 or 4 character: I still need at least 3 more characters for my Drums of War campagin. Only one of Sindorin's characters have signed up so far. I wanted to start the campaign next wed, but it looks like that won't happen, so i'll post up an introduction tonight. And a happy Canada Day (July 1st) and 4th of July to everyone. |
| xanadu06-30-05, 11:07 AM | @Xanadu: If Necavi wins, he levels to 8 thus is not eligable for the Arbiter War Campaign [EL 6] anymore. Didn't think of that. Even if he loses will he be to close to level 8 (i.e. he'd be eligible to level up quite early in the campagin), would this also be a problem? |
| Luni06-30-05, 11:23 AM | @Tellish of Ket: Tactics received. I'll probably run the fight Friday or Saturday. On a side note, Happy Canada Day, and Independance Day to all os us North Americans. |
| Huan06-30-05, 11:51 AM | Oh lord, Anna vs Luken? This is going to be ugly... I mean, if the mighty Laph was hard pressed... Hmm..if Necavi wins he loses on the campaign... but if he loses he still goes on the campaign... interesting. Well, fortunately, Jindl has a substitute ready, so if Necavi does win, then no worries. |

I'm gonna save the secrets on how to EASILY kill her to myself in the event i ever get high enough to face her. But it really isn't that hard. You just gotta be smart. When you're outnumbered, outpowered, and outmanouvered what do you have left? GUILE!!! -ToK |

When you're outnumbered, outpowered, and outmanouvered what do you have left? GUILE!!! -ToK The new Anna is significantly tougher than the old Anna. The old weakness was saving throws, now the new Anna has awesome saves. While I can think of a few decent strategies against her, I'm pretty sure that I've eliminated or at least significantly reduced her vulnerability to the previous methods of EASILY killing her (such as potions: hide from undead and arrows of undead slaying). She's definately not unbeatable, but I would rank her as one of the toughest current gladiators to face (along with Ixenthor, Laph, and a couple of others). -Jindl |
| Caterane06-30-05, 12:53 PM | @ Jindl: Hhuhm? Jindl, can i CDG someone who is STUNNED? :dancin: -ToK Oh this is a perfect timing Ray; that you mention it when I moderate one of Jindl's after such a long time. Vengeance is best served cold :evillaugh :evillaugh :evillaugh :D |

You still remember that one don't you? :P I looked her over and saw some old tricks woulnd't work, or would be harder to accomplish. And yes, i definately like how you boosted her saves. She is now definately scary. -ToK |
| Jindl06-30-05, 01:15 PM | Perfect flight will make your readied prismatic wall a little difficult to accomplish... But I should hush before I really start scaring the "children". |
| Pittbull06-30-05, 01:24 PM | "readied prismatic wall "     That was finely crafted art! |
| Tellish_of_Ket06-30-05, 01:40 PM | Perfect flight will make your readied prismatic wall a little difficult to accomplish... But I should hush before I really start scaring the "children". "readied prismatic wall "     That was finely crafted art! HAHAHA...ya, well, thx for the credit for ingenious thinking. I'm sure the crowd loved seeing the harvester on all four, a broken shell of man with absolutely no possessions left, not even a hair on his chinny-chin-chin, left to the mercy of the most ruthless and cunning assassin to ever walk the arena. <TooT! TooT!, pat/pat/pat>. LOL Someone had to take him down a notch. Besides Anna only has 3 hd...even with +4 turn resistance, a speedy sun cleric (single classed, no LA) could make anna go POOF! in a blink of an eye. But that's not what i was thinking about earlier, that just came to mind now. Speaking of which, would the nimbus protect her from such a death? uh, any form of destruction for anna i guess? AAAH! Good to be back and reminisce about old times. Speaking of which...was phantom steed banned or nerfed? I remember being thoroughly laughed at about it's use in the arena by a certain SSsssssss's challenged friend. Until (with my help) Pale-Rider rode circles around everyone and killed with impunity? -ToK |
| Jh31606-30-05, 02:45 PM | I would think stunned counts as being completely at the opponent's mercy, as he loses his dex bonus to AC and can't take any actions. |
| Cerebus1306-30-05, 02:53 PM | Eh? I thought you could CDG anyone who loses their dex bonus to AC, and that's what stunning does. I would think stunned counts as being completely at the opponent's mercy, as he loses his dex bonus to AC and can't take any actions. Here's a quote from the SRD on CdGs:Helpless Defenders A helpless opponent is someone who is bound, sleeping, paralyzed, unconscious, or otherwise at your mercy. .... As a full-round action, you can use a melee weapon to deliver a coup de grace to a helpless opponent. You can also use a bow or crossbow, provided you are adjacent to the target. If you could CdG people who lost their Dex bonus....wow that could suck :P |
| Pittbull06-30-05, 02:54 PM | @ToK: No, the phantom steed is still there and it'll nerve the next generation of gladiators! ;) Just look at Cat's wizard Uhmentarymster! :D @Jh316: As far I know, you can deliver only a coup de grace if your opponent is helpless. Helpless Defenders A helpless opponent is someone who is bound, sleeping, paralyzed, unconscious, or otherwise at your mercy. EDIT: @Cerebus: You become almost as quick as Jindl! ;) |
| Cerebus1306-30-05, 02:57 PM | EDIT: @Cerebus: You become almost as quick as Jindl! ;)I'm leaving work in about 10 minutes so I'm procrastinating :P. |

"...otherwise at your mercy." How exactly is a stunned person not helpless then? *Puts on Devil's Advocate hat* |
| Jh31606-30-05, 03:24 PM | And it would appear I'm faster than Cerberus, as I edited out the part that said all you need is to lose the dex bonus to AC before he posted. |
| Tellish_of_Ket06-30-05, 03:24 PM | stunned: A stunned creature drops anything held, can't take actions, takes -2 penalty to AC and loses Dex bonus. helpless Helpless people have ZERO dex, -5 to AC, and attacks are made at +4. As you can see, stunned is far from helpless. You can think of stunned as an advanced form of Flat-footedness. -ToK |
| Tellish_of_Ket06-30-05, 03:28 PM | Here's a quote from the SRD on CdGs:If you could CdG people who lost their Dex bonus....wow that could suck :P That would mean you could CDG someone when they are flat-footed? ack, yes that would be bad indeed. Monk with high DC for stunning fist would be a killing machine. Punch/stun, kill. Punch/stun, kill. Punch/stun, kill. wowzers. or the CDG"ing, sneak-attacking rogue....sneak, sneak, sneak....STAB CDG+sneak dmg....oh my! -ToK |
| Sindorin06-30-05, 03:28 PM | Ah, I can now see where the difference of being at your mercy lies. |
| Jh31606-30-05, 03:36 PM | Ah well, still sounds like I'm going to be color sprayed twice, stunned for 2d4+2 rounds, and then shot to death with a heavy crossbow. It'd be just my luck for you to roll high enough to beat my flat-footed AC repeatedly. |
| Mind Rogue06-30-05, 04:56 PM | Out of curiousity, I've been paired against Cvasi's Squibb, but he hasn't been updated since last week's fight. I don't mind if he makes his updates now, but I'd like to see his revisions before I finish updating my strategies. |
| SoulLord06-30-05, 05:25 PM | Tactics for Vandelar the red (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6452290&postcount=300) sent please confirm of receipt |
| King Uther06-30-05, 05:28 PM | @xanadu tactics for Sinnoch have been sent via PM. |
| Caterane06-30-05, 05:40 PM | Out of curiousity, I've been paired against Cvasi's Squibb, but he hasn't been updated since last week's fight. I don't mind if he makes his updates now, but I'd like to see his revisions before I finish updating my strategies. Because of the Board malfunction this week we have opened a backup thread (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=454796) for those characters that could not be edited. Here's the latest version. |
| Rim-Soulfang06-30-05, 05:42 PM | @ Sindorin and SoulLord: Tactics recieved, will try to run the fight tomorrow. @Caterane: Don't you dare give me Vandelar again next week. |
| SoulLord06-30-05, 06:27 PM | tsk tsk tsk dont complain or she'll assign heindal next :) the little fella can be a pain to be run. |
| Sindorin06-30-05, 07:10 PM | These days, any character can be a pain to run... |
| Zerone06-30-05, 10:36 PM | Tactics Received: Xyanthraxia (Xanadu) Guts (Cerebus13) Tactics Not Received: Sokai's Miniquest (Sindorin) Tactics Sent: Asmeroviel to Malither76 Saya to Jindl *•. Z |
| Sunwolf06-30-05, 10:42 PM | @Kaigan Tactics for Brilf sent by PM @Malither Tactics for Telveran sent by PM |
| Kaigan07-01-05, 12:17 AM | @All my gladiators: Received tactics for The Ripper, Dunewalker, and Brilf. However, it is too late for me to start the fights tonight. Thanks for your quick response though. If you would like to send more thorough tactics, please do so. I will be running the fights on Sunday evening. Have a good holiday. I know I will. @My pitlords: Tactics for Rayos and Aeiou will be sent momentarily. |
| Salrantol07-01-05, 12:45 AM | @Kaigan: Tactics for Barak Brigandslayer sent via PM. Sorry to miss you, but it was about the earliest I could do. [Note: Character sheet is in Backup thread] @xanadu: Tactics for Meinrad the Many-Fisted sent via PM. @Malither76: Tactics for Felice tu`Ria sent via PM. [Note: Character sheet is in Backup thread] @Jindl: Tactics for Enoch the Prophet and Talari Leafwhisper sent via PM and already posted by you in the Battles of Gladius thread. |
| Kaigan07-01-05, 01:24 AM | @Pittbull: Tactics or Rayos sent via PM @Huan: Tactics for Aeiou sent via PM. |
| Caterane07-01-05, 03:45 AM | @Uther/Iced: Expansion lasts 10min/lvl when augmented. The first fight of the week - a miniquest - is done. I've even written a little story :) The Undead Village of Briggehossler @Sindorin: Varia LOL :D |
| Pitlords07-01-05, 05:47 AM | @Iced: What do you mean by EL 6-8? You have to decide on one EL. If you check the DMG, p49 you'll notice that you have some tolerance in picking the CR of a monster. If you are refering to Anna's EL 2/8 then I have to tell you that this was something completely different because she acquired a template during the Quest. I'll change the EL of your Quest to 7. Please do the same. Thanks. |
| Sunwolf07-01-05, 09:53 AM | Comment on the 2-4 battle: Trading scrolls is all well and good. But unless it is practice that your group has cast read magic on each other's scrolls, a read magic spell or a (spellcraft check DC20+ spell level and presumable at least a standard action) needs to happen before casting another persons scroll. |
| xanadu07-01-05, 11:17 AM | I have tactics for all my gladiators. One cannot ready an action to begin summoning soince summoning is a full round casting action can you? |
| SoulLord07-01-05, 11:19 AM | I have tactics for all my gladiators. One cannot ready an action to begin summoning soince summoning is a full round casting action can you? from the srd Start/Complete Full-Round Action The "start full-round action" standard action lets you start undertaking a full-round action, which you can complete in the following round by using another standard action. You can’t use this action to start or complete a full attack, charge, run, or withdraw. |
| SoulLord07-01-05, 11:21 AM | Tactics for niobe & squib received. will try to run the fight friday night. |
| xanadu07-01-05, 11:57 AM | Hmm, so if I am reading that right you can. As it turns out it ain't that important. I do have another question that I have seen raised on the boards in the past. Let's say Gladiator A, lets call him, "weak wizard" is grappled by Gladiator b, "bad barbarian". Bad barbarian successfully grapples weak wizard and does some damage Weak wizard manages to roll a successful escape artist check. According to the PHB, weak wizard can goto any square adjacent to bad barbarian. OK, now what? Weak wizard can't use the withdraw action [escaping is a standard action. If weak wizard moves away, he'll provoke an AOO (and probably will be re-grappled). Heck, he can't even cast obscuring mist or something. Isn't the escape from grapple roll kind of pointless? |
| Caterane07-01-05, 12:01 PM | Ways to prevent being regrappled are - tumbling out of reach (Dc15) - when stepping out of the square, move diagonally behind cover-> no AoO when single-moving away - Quickened spells - having total concealment |
| Luni07-01-05, 12:09 PM | Theres also drawing a weapon, so you can use it on the AoO for the grapple. Of course, if they got Improved Grapple that's not going to work. The wizard's best chance, is to use fly, levitate, mirror image, blur, etc. to maximize his odds of avoiding the grapple in the first place. |
| Sindorin07-01-05, 12:15 PM | @Sindorin: Varia LOL :D Heh, that's pretty much what I expected to happen... or were you referring to her having no idea that there is actually combat going on and instead chasing the bunnies? |
| Caterane07-01-05, 12:27 PM | Bunnies? I just saw Laph's shot LOL Crap lack of cover, eh? Gives us a view into the past when we didn't have a central pillar. |
| Sindorin07-01-05, 12:37 PM | Well, from the looks of it KU fixed the problem and Laph has to buff now, so the bunny hunt is on. |
| Tellish_of_Ket07-01-05, 12:41 PM | Ways to prevent being regrappled are - tumbling out of reach (Dc15) - when stepping out of the square, move diagonally behind cover-> no AoO when single-moving away - Quickened spells - having total concealment 1) Tumble is trained only. A very smart skill to put a few pts in for any wizard. If you don't have ranks in it though you are S.O.L. in your scenario. 2) Wrong Cat. Unfortunately you provoke from the square you LEAVE which doesn't have cover. He can just grab you and wring your neck. 3) quickened spells? Well, you'd have to take a 5' back, and you can't move after taking a 5'. You can alternately cast on the defensive, but movement still presents a problem no matter what. And quickened DD takes an 8th lvl slot. But if you had DD, you could have just escaped anyhow with a Conc check DC 20+4=24 with a normal DD. Also if you are 15th lvl caster what are you doing being grappled by a barbarian???!!? 4) if you were invisible at the time of the grapple, (and it has happened) you can just walk away as normal without fear of reprisal. -ToK |
| xanadu07-01-05, 12:45 PM | As it turns out, the gladiator did invest some ranks of tumble and it won him the fight. |
| Caterane07-01-05, 12:51 PM | 2) Wrong Cat. Unfortunately you provoke from the square you LEAVE which doesn't have cover. He can just grab you and wring your neck. I'm not wrong. If you escape the grapple, you enter any square you choose that is next to you. This is a free movement that does not even count as movement, nor does it provoke. You used a standard action to escape the grapple, now you have a move action left, and if you stepped out behind a cover, you can now use this move action to move away. Without AoO. Quicken spells don't provoke. And casting on the defensive should be no problem unless you foolishly haven't maxed out your concentration skill. I love to shoot your arguments down :D |
| Pittbull07-01-05, 12:57 PM | Bunnies? I just saw Laph's shot LOL Crap lack of cover, eh? Gives us a view into the past when we didn't have a central pillar. Our good old quick-drawing-competition-arena! ;) JOE:"And Lucky Luke wins against his shadow....." |
| Tellish_of_Ket07-01-05, 01:01 PM | I'm not wrong. If you escape the grapple, you enter any square you choose that is next to you. You said MOVE away behind cover, not GET OUT OF GRAPPLE where cover exists. when stepping out of the square, move diagonally behind cover-> no AoO when single-moving away I love shooting down your lack of understanding of our language. :D -ToK (j/k) |
| Pitlords07-01-05, 01:05 PM | @Xanadu: Meinrad is ECL 4 so maximum xp/gold he gets is 400. Sinnoch defeated a ECL 4 combatant so he gains only 1000 each. Please correct that. For your convenience: Sinnoch wins and receives 1000xp/1200gp Meinrad loses and receives 400xp/400gp |
| Salrantol07-01-05, 03:43 PM | @xanadu: Good work on the fight. He beat me fair and square. [Although Meinrad never actually saw/spotted Sinnoch I will assume since his grapple was successful he can see him now] You are correct. Since he was not invisible and only hiding, being in a grapple with him gives me unobstructed LoS and thus he is no longer hiding. I really think trying to pinpoint him with the bat around was the best move Also correct, you held to the tactics correctly. Seriously, what kind of cleric has +7 Escape Artist and Tumble? Anyway, it's what I get for fighting all these ECL 5 fights. |

| Tellish_of_Ket07-02-05, 01:57 PM | Laugh all you want. I had a ton of rolls go sour, but nonetheless, i had only 2 or 3 minutes to make him an arena gladiator and i didn't change his spell list, or get rid of his belt +2 to make sure i had ample firepower. I'm not gonna disect the fight, i'm sure it was pain for Luni to run, so i won't ruin the hard work. Good win to my opponent, grats. Well, there is good news. I get to re-do him with a full arsenal of a regular gladiator instead of a quester/campaigner. -ToK |
| Caterane07-02-05, 02:04 PM | Hm, the Pale-Rider was one of the three builds (together with Johan Talyana and a Scroll of Prismatic Ray with a stupid rogue attached to it LOL) that defeated the Harvester. So either I have to be afraid of Fasin now, or the Pale-Rider should better go back to the Kindergarten LOL LOL Ok sorry I'll stop it. I'll update and reset Pale-Rider but Ray, I have some bad news for the Pale-Rider that you should know about: we don't have bumps anymore LOOOL LOLOLOL |
| Jh31607-02-05, 02:27 PM | Hey, I won because of bad rolls (depending on your perspective). Who would've thought the fighter with +2 Will would've saved versus color spray TWICE? |
| Tellish_of_Ket07-02-05, 02:43 PM | Hm, the Pale-Rider was one of the three builds (together with Johan Talyana and a Scroll of Prismatic Ray with a stupid rogue attached to it LOL) that defeated the Harvester. | Caterane07-02-05, 02:55 PM | After 3 losses in a row you levelled up. That was when we hadn't an XP system and you leveled after every win. |
| Beldin07-02-05, 03:58 PM | :teach: ahh, the good old times... |
| Tellish_of_Ket07-02-05, 06:49 PM | Hey, I won because of bad rolls (depending on your perspective). Who would've thought the fighter with +2 Will would've saved versus color spray TWICE? Nope...you didn't win because of bad rolls. I mean i did miss FOUR touch attacks in a row that had the potential to put you down, and i think i my horse missed 9 attacks?. But other than that, i really didn't have any firepower. I had a poor build, and did the best that i could, and still lost. You did earn it. -ToK |
| Jindl07-02-05, 07:15 PM | @Cat - Brief tactics PM'd for Anna. |
| Jh31607-02-05, 07:31 PM | *Shrug* Thanks. By the way, can someone look over my new character for me? I'm not good at spotting errors. |
| Tellish_of_Ket07-03-05, 12:09 AM | @Luni: Just FYI, i would still have gotten the AoO vs the crawling tatoo. It being a construct has no bearing on it entering my space and provoking. My hands were charged with chill touch at the time. No worries. -ToK |
| Luni07-03-05, 12:43 AM | I know you got your AoO. But with it's hardness of 5, plus the fact that constructs are immune to Chill Touch, I thought you couldn't hurt it. I forgot you had a dagger though. :( Edit: Actually, the dagger wouldn't of damaged it. Constructs are immune to crits, so the max damage on the dagger would be 3. |
| Tellish_of_Ket07-03-05, 09:36 AM | Oh heck, i know i couldn't have done anything...it's just that in the fight you said i didn't get one because it was a construct. If my hand had been charged with ghoul touch, vampiric touch, or a CL 2+ shocking grasp, i could have killed it....but if i had either of those on my hand with the condition he was in, i don't think i would have wanted to take the AoO anyhow. lol -ToK |
| Caterane07-03-05, 10:50 AM | Anna vs Fasin There are some things that need to be discussed |
| King Uther07-03-05, 10:56 AM | How about the incorporeal subtype, whenever in an object, can only sense things right next to the object and no further. To stick her head out and spot then TK, that seems like a 5 foot step if anything. |
| Luni07-03-05, 01:22 PM | My story is done. I used creative license in it, rather than give a round by round accounting. Link here. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6593845&postcount=69) @Soullord. Rogues are proficient in Heavy Crossbow. Heavey crossbow is a simple weapon, and rogues are proficient in all simple weapons. |
| Jindl07-03-05, 03:01 PM | How about the incorporeal subtype, whenever in an object, can only sense things right next to the object and no further. To stick her head out and spot then TK, that seems like a 5 foot step if anything. I think that it is a 5ft step adjustment to go from total cover within an object to simple cover, partially within the object. I don't see what bearing that has on the fight, however. The thing I would like to discuss is the issue of whether the target is flat footed against the violent thrust, if they cannot see Anna. Per the RAW, I think they should be. |
| Jh31607-03-05, 03:11 PM | Nice work, Luni. |
| Caterane07-03-05, 03:14 PM | A hidden rogue who snipes has also a bow that is hidden. If the rogue would be behind cover but would hold the bow out in the open then that would not qualify as a sneak attack. You are flatfooted because of an unexpected attack from an unknown direction. 12 huge bastard swords who are clearly lying piled on the ground in the open are no surprise to someone fighting Anna. Another example: If ANNA would be visible but the swords not, then I'd say the swords deal sneak damage vs flatfooted because the opponoment could see Anna but not the swords (who could approach from the back or the side). |
| xanadu07-03-05, 03:18 PM | A hidden rogue who snipes has also a bow that is hidden. I agree with this reasoning. |
| Purkake07-03-05, 03:45 PM | Something about the Niobe vs Squibb fight: Round 4. standard: ready action to shot squibb defensively (combat expertise -4/+4 dodge bonus) but you cant use combat expertise with ranged attacks: COMBAT EXPERTISE Prerequisite: Int 13. Benefit: When you use the attack action or the full attack action in melee , you can take a penalty of as much as –5 on your attack roll and add the same number (+5 or less) as a dodge bonus to your Armor Class. This number may not exceed your base attack bonus. The changes to attack rolls and Armor Class last until your next action. Normal: A character without the Combat Expertise feat can fight defensively while using the attack or full attack action to take a –4 penalty on attack rolls and gain a +2 dodge bonus to Armor Class. Special: A fighter may select Combat Expertise as one of his fighter bonus feats. [GENERAL] Emphasis mine. |
| Caterane07-03-05, 03:47 PM | @Purkake: Still no character? ;) |
| Purkake07-03-05, 04:03 PM | Dont rush me, I am trying to make up my mind here. You can't JUST make a character, but maybe I'll make one when i get some cool ideas. Until then I will watch the fights and find errors :P |
| Jh31607-03-05, 04:08 PM | Hey, I JUST made a character! I also made one who's a class I have no idea how to provide tactics for! |
| Purkake07-03-05, 04:13 PM | Well MY character(s) have to be well thought-out and as good as i can make them, otherwise a will not be happy with them, so just live with the fact that at the moment i am characterless but still here :P Anyway the place is cool and the people are fun so i MIGHT eventually make a character :) |
| Caterane07-03-05, 04:54 PM | No rush; we're happy to have you hang around here, character or not. The CoCo is more than just a games only board. |
| Purkake07-03-05, 05:01 PM | Go go rules lawyers :w00t: |
| Huan07-03-05, 08:23 PM | Thanks for the 'fight', Cat, I agree with your choice. I shamelesly admit this is the first ranged-fighter I have played, and thus need many a kinks to work out (like my skills...which I will fix before the campaign.. but for now I will rockily-roll with the character). I appreciate all criticism and will use it constructively. Jindl, hat's off to your Anna, of course. @Purkake With the long thought on your character, try to fit in some good RP ok? |
| Caterane07-03-05, 08:31 PM | Huan, if you see any chance how you can harm Anna I will look into it. I've checked both sheets upside down for more than half an hour but couldn't find a way. I really hate surrenders but this one was just a matter of time. |
| Jindl07-03-05, 08:55 PM | @Cat- Could you double check the rewards for that fight? Luken was ECL8, right? @Huan - Thanks for the fight. I'd only make one recommendation for Luken. Find a way to increase your spot/listen. Anna isn't the only character with a great hide skill, and as a ranged character you will have to combat distance penalties to your spot/listen. Just my 2 cps. -Jindl |
| Caterane07-03-05, 09:00 PM | @Jindl: 8? God you're right; thought you were 7 after the poor performance LOL j/k @Huan: critic: your character is completely ill-equipped. Not just for Anna. ;) EDIT: Anna wins and receives 2600xp/3683gc (2400xp/3400gc -0% +8%) Luken loses and receives 733xp/1039gc (800xp/1133gc -8% +0%) |

| Caterane07-03-05, 09:17 PM | Jindl has turned to the good side of the Force :D I've corrected it. Thanks for pointing that out. Does anyone know what a + means behind the user name in the Active User List? Currently Active Users: Caterane, Cerebus13, Erithmu, Gonbow, Jindl+ Oldest member? Guy of the hour? Bending the rules? |
| Malither7607-03-05, 10:07 PM | it means you have them marked as a buddy |
| Caterane07-04-05, 05:21 AM | @Uther and all players: No need to run it arena like. It's a difficult fight with many participants; you've already invested work in making the HUGE (;)) maps so if you need the time, this fight will be extended into next week. I'd rather like to read a clean fight than one finished on time in this case. |
| SoulLord07-04-05, 07:26 AM | Something about the Niobe vs Squibb fight: but you cant use combat expertise with ranged attacks: Emphasis mine. aaa duly noted, I was checking fight defensively first which has no such implication. |

| Pittbull07-04-05, 05:44 PM | @Cerebus: Thanks for the story and the fight, I hope Hagrid's series of bad luck ends soon. :( @Pitlord: Hagrid hasn't hit with his dissolving weapon-charged falchion in the whole fight, does it stay charged until the next successful attack in the next fight? :smirk: |
| Cerebus1307-04-05, 05:53 PM | @Pittbull & Caterane When did Mer-Man aquire a Hippogriff? I'm just curious because it isn't in his fight log at all, nor does he have it listed as a purchase. Mostly this is a concern because of this quote from the Hippogriff text:Training A Hippogriff A hippogriff requires training before it can bear a rider in combat. Training a hippogriff requires six weeks of work and a DC 25 Handle Animal check. Riding a hippogriff requires an exotic saddle. A hippogriff can fight while carrying a rider, but the rider cannot also attack unless he or she succeeds on a Ride check. It would take 6 weeks for Mer-Man to pay somebody to train his Hippogriff, unless we allow questing for pre-trained allies. |
| Pittbull07-04-05, 06:01 PM | As far as I know, he bought an allready training hippogriff, paying for the training and the hippogriff. |
| Sindorin07-04-05, 06:03 PM | Yes, I'm pretty sure he has been doing that over the past week - and has been losing credits for the active character too during the training. |
| Pitlords07-04-05, 06:12 PM | Here comes the weekly Pittbull Extrawurst Reward Calculation: Rook Devange wins and receives 2100xp/2600gc (2100xp/2600gc -0% +0%) Kaigan loses and receives 700xp/866gc (700xp/866gc -0% +0%) MerMan wins and receives 1890xp/2340gc (2100xp/2600gc -10% +0%) Gareth loses and receives 770xp/953gc (700xp/866gc -0% +10%) And Peter, please put sheets and tactics in spoilers or you owe me a new mousewheel. Thanks. http://www.wisconsinmade.com/wiscmade/images/products/1506.jpg @Cerebus: Merman bought the hippogriff (3000) which was already trained by a professional trainer (1000) for a total of 4000 gp which is marked down on the sheet (Mount: Hippogriff, trained (4000) ["Battra"]). This should not be confused with going on a miniquest to acquire an untrained hippogriff at no cost, and train it yourself. See FAQ: NPC Services for more information. |

I hate adaptation, especially when both players send sufficient tactics. |
| Pittbull07-04-05, 06:24 PM | Yes, but I'm so used to my good old browser...... |
| Caterane07-04-05, 06:33 PM | You are using AOL? Oh my god, throw it away (far!) I've used ...I was forced to use that crap when I was in NY. | Malither7607-04-05, 07:15 PM | Pittbull, we had this same issue last week, the dispell has to be rolled agains all my buffs the chance that it gets the fly spell lyes in my favor since the rolle is 55% in his favor but I have 2 dissolving weapons, fly, invisibility, precog offense, going at this time so thats six if he passes oh say 3 checks there is still a 50/50 chance fly is not one of them, and No Gareth refuses to use ranged weapons if you refer to his first fight, and with cover and full defense and force screen my ac can be up over 30 so there is a chance he doesn't kill me with all his arrows if it is an area dispell that check would have dispelled the acid on my weapon b/c it is the highest level power going and then he doesn't get to roll anymore Yeah I didn't bring the tower shield b/c I didn't think it would be an archery dual, but if Gareths opponent chooses to stay at range he can take moves toward his opponent and stay with cover and full defense, he is activly aproaching his opponent thats all he can do this shouldn't violate the 10 rounds Also b/c of his mounts manuverablity it is always moving never stationary, so he takes a -4 to all shots, you only don't get a penelty when your mount is stationary so you could fire before or after a move, but his mount cant stop b/c it does not have hover, and finaly the thing that really save me is a long bow CAN NOT be used while mounted, so yeah the fight needs some work thanks, and looking forward to the campaing :) |
| Caterane07-04-05, 07:32 PM | @Malither: Area dispels check the highest level power first which is fly (CL 5), then the others (invisibility, etc). Since I am flying I can always negate your cover, and I have another dispel which I can now use as a target version once your invisibility runs out and strip you of most of your buffs. Likewise, if you want to play the waiting game, so can Merman. He will just shoot once every 10 rounds to not be subject to the delay rule which I even mentioned in my tactics. Your buffs will eventually run out and this is when 50% of my arrows hit. I also want to mention that I can reuse all non-broken ones which raises my available arrows to about 500. There is no penalty to ranged attacks if the mount makes only a single move. |
| Malither7607-04-05, 07:35 PM | I agree but you can't shoot not with the long bow, and dispell goes against the highest caster level spell not the hiest spell, both my disolving weapons are ML 6 so they would be first, then Fly cl5, PCO ML4, then Invis cl3 read rules of the game, there is no penelty asuming your mount is stationary woops scrap the no shoot thing, I didn't see your Harpoon was a composite bow |
| Caterane07-04-05, 07:48 PM | Dissolving weapon is part of your weapon, not of you. It's like a magic weapon spell wouldn't be dispelled either if I target you. But since it is an area spell, your dissolving weapons would have to be dispelled seperately, plus your own buff, like Fly. You can use ranged weapons while your mount is taking a double move, but at a –4 penalty on the attack roll. You can use ranged weapons while your mount is running (quadruple speed), at a –8 penalty. In either case, you make the attack roll when your mount has completed half its movement. You can make a full attack with a ranged weapon while your mount is moving. Likewise, you can take move actions normally |
| Malither7607-04-05, 07:55 PM | I agree with what your saying from the SRD problem is rules of the game states there is no penelty assuming your mount is stationary yours is not, and dissolving weapon is an active power that has been manifested just like if I cast magic weapon it is vulnerable to the dispell and its first to go since its the highest |
| Caterane07-04-05, 08:03 PM | Malither, I've given you a quote above. It cannot be clearer. And about the dispel, a wind wall is also active. SRD: Area Dispel: When dispel magic is used in this way, the spell affects everything within a 20-foot radius. For each creature within the area that is the subject of one or more spells, you make a dispel check against the spell with the highest caster level. If that check fails, you make dispel checks against progressively weaker spells until you dispel one spell (which discharges the dispel magic spell so far as that target is concerned) or until you fail all your checks. The creature’s magic items are not affected. For each object within the area that is the target of one or more spells, you make dispel checks as with creatures. Magic items are not affected by an area dispel. For each ongoing area or effect spell whose point of origin is within the area of the dispel magic spell, you can make a dispel check to dispel the spell. For each ongoing spell whose area overlaps that of the dispel magic spell, you can make a dispel check to end the effect, but only within the overlapping area. If an object or creature that is the effect of an ongoing spell (such as a monster summoned by monster summoning) is in the area, you can make a dispel check to end the spell that conjured that object or creature (returning it whence it came) in addition to attempting to dispel spells targeting the creature or object. Everyone will confirm what I said. It has been run like that always. And that is the way dispel works. The rules are clear. |
| Malither7607-04-05, 08:41 PM | ok so what you just posted says you do make rolls agains the weapon, b/c it has an effeck on it right? |
| Cerebus1307-04-05, 08:51 PM | ok so what you just posted says you do make rolls agains the weapon, b/c it has an effeck on it right?Correct. The area dispel looks through every person and object within its area and tries to dispel one effect from each of them, starting with the highest level effect. |
| Mind Rogue07-04-05, 10:09 PM | Something about the Niobe vs Squibb fight: Round 4. standard: ready action to shot squibb defensively (combat expertise -4/+4 dodge bonus) but you cant use combat expertise with ranged attacks: That's because I confused myself and actually ment to use the 'Fighting defensively as a standard action' which says "You can choose to fight defensively when attacking." Without any mention to melee attacks, this, unlike combat expertise, actually does work with ranged attacks. Also, I should have said the penalty was -4 and the bonus +2. I was going to say the bonus should be +3, but then I remembered I only have 4 ranks in tumble. Not that it seems to have affected the battle, although now I have a really long match to review... so double thanks for running it. -Mind Rogue |
| Huan07-04-05, 11:53 PM | Bare-bones of Aeiou vs Necavi (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6611493) is up. Short version: Circumstances turned tactics upside-down for both, resulting in a plan that backfired, and a close, come-from-behind win. |
| Kaigan07-05-05, 01:04 AM | Dunewalker vs. Barak is up. I will not be able to post The Ripper vs. Brilf till tomorrow evening. Sorry for the trouble, but been busy. Hope everyone had a good canada day and independance day. P.S. I will still be running the fight. |
| xanadu07-05-05, 01:12 AM | Bare-bones of Aeiou vs Necavi (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6611493) is up. Short version: Circumstances turned tactics upside-down for both, resulting in a plan that backfired, and a close, come-from-behind win. Huan - Good adaptation of tactics but according to your summary in round 5 Aeiou took no falling damage. I need that counted if it was not :D |
| Salrantol07-05-05, 03:03 AM | @Malither76: It ended up not mattering because of the crit next round, but... +7 Autohypnosis [6 ranks, -1wis, +2synergy] Worth noting...I should be less of a n00b and mention it in my tactics...not to mention remembering to put readying into my tactics rather than assuming it's there.... |
| Huan07-05-05, 08:43 AM | Huan - Good adaptation of tactics but according to your summary in round 5 Aeiou took no falling damage. I need that counted if it was not :D He took dmg, but reduced dmg. Remember, the person inside the cocoon takes no physcial dmg until the cocoon is shattered. The fall shattered the shell, which absorbed most of the dmg, and only left a little bit to hurt Aeiou. Also, it's amazing but you are 200 xp shy of lvl 8... which means you can still go on the campaign. Saddle up, my friend. :) |
| cvazi07-05-05, 09:42 AM | @ soullord- Rogues are proficient with all simple weapons. Heavy X-bow is a simple weapon. Rogues are proficient with all simple weapons, plus the hand crossbow, rapier, sap, shortbow, and short sword. Rogues are proficient with light armor, but not with shields. I would have hit in round 9, round 17, round 21, round 23, and round 29 |

(and please not just Huan respond) I'm not sure I understand why the cacoon would have shielded him from falling damage cannot be directly harmed or interacted with unless the cocoon is destroyed So, I cant hit him with a greatsword or target him with a magic missile but what would constitute "indirect" damage...I would think falling applies; If I fall in anything else with hardness 8 and hitpoints 20 it does not absorb the shock. |
| SoulLord07-05-05, 10:38 AM | @ soullord- Rogues are proficient with all simple weapons. Heavy X-bow is a simple weapon. I would have hit in round 9, round 17, round 21, round 23, and round 29 I could have sworn the x-bow was not a simple weapon, I'll add the damage result for those hits. lets see round 9 12+4=16 vs ac 20 miss round 17 9+4=13 vs ac 20 miss round 21 19+4=23 vs ac 20 Hit! dmg 4 round 23 19+4=23 vs ac 20 Hit! dmg 3 round 29 11+4=15 vs ac 20 Miss the result of the match does not change though. |

| Malither7607-05-05, 02:16 PM | ok, Cat sorry bout everything last night, not trying to fight, thats why I hate talking online somtimes you just sound mad :) @Pittbull main concerns, there was no check for touchsite, if touchsite goes off wich it probably will, He doesn't see me coming he feels me and pinpoints, I imagine thats why he used area dispell as to target me there would still be a 50% miss chance, the dispell will take out the highest ML/CL power/spell first in this case the check passed and the power taken is dissolving weapon either on sword or spear, the one on the sword is augmented so it may go first either way they are both at ML6, so fly would still be up, and I continue regular move and manifest animal affinity str as per tactics. He will still pinpoint me again and probably try to dispell again as he feels I have not floated down. If he passes first check agian then its now either animal affinity or other dissolving weapon, if first fails and second passes then its either animal affinity or dissolving weapon, if first 2 fail and 3 passes he dispell the fly, I imagine he will area dispell again to avoid the 50% miss chance but if not and he target dispells you need to roll agains all active stuff if he hits, thats animal affinity, dissolving weapon, PCO, expansion, invis, fly I think thats it, remember guys were friends here I don't mind losing at all especially to a good build but I don't want it to be b/c a rule was not followed. Please feel free to reply Jindl, Sindorin and others I want to make sure I'm looking at this right. |
| Cerebus1307-05-05, 02:25 PM | @Malither76 Buffs on your weapons don't matter when it comes to an Area Dispel affecting spells on you. Objects with effects on them are handled completely seperate from any creatures in the Area...all of them have a chance at having ONE effect dispelled. |
| Malither7607-05-05, 02:39 PM | oh, so the thing effects say if there was 3 people, in the area it effects all of them once, but then say they each had a weapon with say dissolving weapon on it, each weapon would get effected to, is this right, if so thats were I was confused and appologize for Yeap my bad all, sorry Cat for making a fuss, just didn't read the thing clearly last night you are right the dispell would effect me my sword, and my spear, and fly was the highest CL at the time so its gone, ok problem solved pittbull don't worry about any corrections, the most it would do if he failed his first touchsite ML check is have me waste more resourses :) Oh, here is a question though, with all this happening, ok with dispell psionics and dispell magic being the same and transparent would a ring of couterspells with dspell magic in it work on both or only dispell magic. I hate transperancy :) |
| Caterane07-05-05, 02:46 PM | If there are 20 people with 20 dissolving weapons in hand, then I get 40 dispel checks. 20 vs the personal buff, and 20 vs dissolving weapons. Please read the quote again that I posted above. In any case, your personal buffs are checked seperately and have nothing to do with what you have on your weapon, on your mount, are as an area around you (windwall, summoned monsters, etc). Btw, I also had an emergency tactic in case fly wouldn't be dispelled which is pretty safe. Pittbull didn't post it though but I had sent it to him as an add-on by PM. |
| Malither7607-05-05, 02:53 PM | Yeah I see I was misreading the thing, I was just trying to get one attack off on your mata ray, and watch you fall then grapple but you countered nicely well done, and now Gareth is off to Campaing mabie he and Mer-Man will cross again in the future :) |
| Malither7607-05-05, 03:03 PM | The only thing that confuses me now is pittbull didn't trace your movement, it stayed the same for 3 rounds, he said in one of the rounds that I say you coming but had no line, but I don't know were your at based on whats posted at this point just curious, I'm updating Gareth now |
| SoulLord07-05-05, 03:17 PM | Talari (Luni) & Enoch (Salrantol) vs Zar (Rim-Soulfang) & Heindal (SoulLord): Jindl is now complete. I'm trying to figure out the rewards now, if anybody has any input... -Jindl Ah well I salute my opponents and accept my defeat graciously..... Thanks for pitlording the fight. Now heindal has another level so he will unleash his fury on the 4th level bracket. (just in time to avoid being pitted with vandelar) |
| Caterane07-05-05, 04:39 PM | The only thing that confuses me now is pittbull didn't trace your movement, it stayed the same for 3 rounds, he said in one of the rounds that I say you coming but had no line, but I don't know were your at based on whats posted at this point just curious, I'm updating Gareth now Once you were on the ground, positions became meaningless. I have wingover and a speed of 100 single move. I can always appear above your head. In such cases we don't track positions, for the Pitlords sake. |
| Caterane07-05-05, 04:50 PM | Rewards for the ECL 3 Team Fight: Talari wins and gets 787 XP and Gold Enoch wins and gets 787 XP and Gold Zar loses and gets 337 XP and Gold Heindal loses and gets 337 XP and Gold Please put that in the fight Jindl. Thanks. Explanation: Allies - although property of one character - assist the team so both share the penalties and the rewards. |
| King Uther07-05-05, 04:59 PM | The 2 on 4 fight is done. Although at one point it could have gone either way, at the end of round 5 it became quite one-sided. Good vs Evil (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6557926&postcount=1) |
| Caterane07-05-05, 05:01 PM | Good, Uther. Could you post the rewards so that I can update? |

| Jindl07-05-05, 07:37 PM | Just one thing about the fight: how in the world does Nyte do so much damage with the attack? I can underestad the 1d8(bow)+5(bonuses)+2d6(deepcrystal) but what about the other 2d6 and the 3d6? He should have done zero sneak attack damage. At that time, JotHF was protected by a potion: blur, granting him concealment, and making sneak attacks against him impossible. That would reduce the damage by 10 hps. That eliminates the 3d6. The other 2d6 came from using psionic shot. -Jindl |
| Jindl07-05-05, 07:39 PM | @Jindl: Zar only has 1d6 sneak attack. Not that it matters, he got slaughtered anyway. Sorry, I must have thought he was a pure rogue. It has been corrected (the second dice came up a 3, which I removed from the damage). -Jindl |
| Malither7607-05-05, 07:41 PM | a few things Nyte would not have got the sneak attack Jindl was blured. The issue with dissolving weapon needs to be resolved, IT CAN NOT BE PUT ON TO RANGE WEAPONS, if this is allowed it would transfer the power as any other type of ability to the ammo and would be lost after the first shot if it is a miss, this is why it should be allowed on a single arrow. Acts just ass disolving touch, dissolving touch is a successful melee touch attack, dissolving weapon a successful melee attack. the arrows can be used as melee weapon, now you are just finding a more effective way to use them in a bow, that is all I expected us to lose we were way out mached, Four ECL 6 characters would of had a tough fight and probably lost, so for now on Nyte keep your mouth shut and stop drawing attention to us :) Oh and Jindl I would have my dex, uncanny dodge. |

| Salzorin07-05-05, 11:48 PM | We (the Elders) have ruled that dissolving weapon can be applied to a projectile weapon, but not to the ammunition. In such cases, it is expended on the first shot, whether that shot hits or misses. -Jindl Wait, wait... are you trying to say that dissolving weapon, which is cast upon a projectile WEAPON, NOT the ammo, would still be expended on the first shot even if it is a miss? If that's what you're saying then that's just silly.... that's basically mixing 2 possible rulings to get the worst possible effect for using dissolving weapon on ranged weapons. If you were to say that the dissolving weapon is applied to a specific arrow, then yes I'd say it would lose its effect if the arrow were to miss (obviously). But we're talking about enchanting a bow with a magical effect, the same way we use dissolving weapon on a sword... dissolving weapon on a sword requires that the effect go off with a successful attack, so why would dissolving weapon on a bow be any different? It's silly to say that the effect is both upon the bow AND goes away with the first arrow shot... you need to either go with one ruling or the other, the mix doesn't make sense. |
| Salrantol07-06-05, 12:00 AM | I believe that the rationale behind having Dissolving Weapon go off on the first attack with a projectile weapon is that, like most effects on a projectile weapon, they bestow the ability on their ammunition, such that the acid effect placed on the bow imparts the acid onto the arrow when fired. |
| Salzorin07-06-05, 12:29 AM | Yeah, but there's no "Dissolving Weapon (melee)" vs. "Dissolving Weapon (projectile)"... so I don't see why there would be any special rules pertaining to the nature of the spell. To me the only question is... do you cast the spell on the ammo, or do you cast it on the bow? I remember the ruling that said that dissolving weapon would be cast on the projectile weapon, not the projectile itself... I'm just wondering where that happened to get stretched to an actual change in the wording of the spell.... The reason, I had thought, it was ruled against being cast on projectiles was to avoid people pre-buffing multiple arrows or buffing multiple arrows at the start of the fight so that they wouldn't have to waste rounds in-between attacks once they're attacking their opponent. Also, I thought people wanted to keep the functionality of the power consistant for all weapon types... it seems silly that it would function different for melee and projectile weapons without anything in the wording of the spell that specifies a change in nature dependant upon weapon type. |

Z The way I saw it, it had a Charisma score that was very low and could be knocked out by looking at it. So sue me for forgetting, things have been rough around here in RL. Also, Sokai is a MALE Maenad... I believe he's referred to as 'her' in the story. Fine, I'll write tactics beyond the scope of just looking at it. |

Here's a quote: For 2 power points, the deep crystal weapon deals an extra 2d6 points of damage. The weapon will stay charged for 1 minute or until it scores its next hit. Bows, crossbows, and slings bestow this power on their ammunition. All missile weapons lose this effect if they miss.Make more sense now? KerlanRayne |

If we were to do dissolving weapon in the same way, then somebody could put dissolving weapon on multiple arrows before going into the fight. What I said was, the power can either be interpreted to bestow the power to the ammunition or to the bow, but instead we somehow have a mix. The ruling currently bestows the power to the bow which then transfers the power to the ammunition... don't see how that's a legitimate ruling for the power. Either the bow holds the power, and it holds the power until a successful attack, as per the rule... or the ammo holds the power, and it CAN'T hold the power until a successful attack, because it's ammo and you'd have to go retrieve it or something... we can't have it be both ways. I'm ok with them choosing the ammo ruling, but it's going to open a new doorway for people where you come into a fight with 5 arrows charged with dissolving weapon.... the current mix just doesn't make sense. |

I don't think that would be a good idea. Your touch, claw, or bite is corrosive, and sizzling moisture visibly oozes from your natural weapon or hand. You deal 4d6 points of acid damage to any creature or object you touch with your successful melee touch attack. And you secrete denatures 1 round after use, losing all efficacy and ability to deal damage. You are immune to your own acid. Emphasis mine. You are immune to your own acid, but you shouldn't be putting your hands in your pockets or your arrows in your quiver.((unless you worked out a system where you have a critter with six arms, each of which held two arrows carefully so they don't touch each other either)) Of course, I have been wrong before.... Additionally: As dissolving touch, except your weapon is charged with acid until you make a successful attack. Emphasis mine, again. It seems odd to rule it works on ranged weapons and they lose it after an unsuccessful attack, since this is spelled out in the spell. At the very least roll to see where the arrow lands and do the damage to the earth :)[since that is what the arrow "hit"] If this were MY home game[which it definately isn't] and someone crit missed with a melee weapon and this spell was on, and they ended up hitting one of thier teammates...I would have the spell go off, since they did indeed "hit" something, even though it wasn't thier target. Of course, I'd be more concerned with an archer using manyshot to get the effect on multiple arrows with one casting. |
| Malither7607-06-05, 02:03 PM | Salzorin, think about what you are saying logicaly, how does the arrow or bow know if the attack is successful chances are you hit somthing successfuly, either the ground, a tree, an inocent arean bystander, a fuzzy bunny who was in wrong place at the wrong time, when the arrow is shot the power goes to it then it dissolves on whatever it hits either your opponent or whatever this makes perfect sense. Telveran Trueblade VS Asmeroviel is up finaly sorry again but it was a reallllyyyyyy long fight :) |
| Salzorin07-06-05, 03:15 PM | Lets not forget that there is a bound to what we think about "logically" when we're discussing the workings of M-A-G-I-C. Yeah, I agree, I don't know how it would discern it either... but magic in the d&d world does plenty of other discerning on its own that I don't see why we have to have a scientific explanation as to why this spell works... the spell states that it requires a successful attack before the spell is disharged, so why not keep it that way? |
