| McJarvis01-30-08, 12:23 PM | Please don't edit the sheet after the deadline or you will lose the match. Rules of Gladius All that you need to know is written in the Rules of Gladius. It could be useful also to give a look to the Court Decisions Part 1 and Part 2. Please do not make fake accounts or insult the Elders. Pairings GM MindWandererB Elder Substitute-GM Telin will pair the active Characters of Gladius after the deadline. Link to pairings. Make sure that your character is not in prison. Pitlording You should use the CoCo Dice Roller (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com) for the fight. If you need it, there is a nice template ready to use that will help. You could find the Battle Map Tag Generator (http://www.hwx.it/coco) for dynamic Maps very useful. You must post a link to your fight in this thread when it is complete. If you need a quick and dirty tool to calculate distances between two points (in 2-D or 3-D), this tool (http://wormhole.ath.cx/coco/coco_dist.php) should suffice. Another useful link is the Quick Access tables for XP and Gold. If a fight needs to be rerun, the Pitlord has to inform the Pitlords account. He cannot react to requests from Players because the other player and the pitlord might disagree. He has no time to read the fight and the discussion. Please keep that in mind. PMs from players with rerun requests won't have an impact. Comments & Concerns Post any comments or concerns for this weeks fights in this thread. Be kind and courteous to your fellow posters, and don't feed the pitlords. Please remember that they do hard work and consume a lot of time to let you play. Above all, have FUN! If you have questions or comments on any of the changes, please make your posts be heard in the Council of Gladius! |

| TelinArtho01-30-08, 04:11 PM | Okay - Pairings are done. Had a few complicated things to deal with but I think I caught them all. I'll be offline for a couple of hours - but I'll check in as soon as I can with issues. Credits will be figured later. |
| Hirumajoe01-30-08, 04:15 PM | Is it me or is the ECL 12 bracket missing from pairings? (Valen, Elrick, Kitty)? |
| Erithmu01-30-08, 04:18 PM | @Telin: I'm pretty sure Kracknol is active in the ECL 13 bracket as well as Owen and Istima. @WW: Monster roll ... 2 Megaraptors |
| Stormwind01-30-08, 04:23 PM | @Telin: Varjo is listed for a fight, but she should be shopping for ethereal items (as per rules for ghosts). Her title is marked as a full activity as follows: ECL9: Ready for Jan. 30 - Full Activity: Ethereal shopping trip Thus could you remove the fight and list her under the crafting section. Thanks |
| lonewolf01-30-08, 04:33 PM | * Flutterthought (MindWandererB) vs. Unknown Monster : lonewolf [Arena] [Week 2] should I roll a new monster for this one? Only general monster Info and no tactics have been posted last week. |
| Zevox01-30-08, 04:38 PM | @Telin: I'm pretty sure Kracknol is active in the ECL 13 bracket as well as Owen and Istima. Looks like it, yep. So we either have an FFA, or one of us gets a monster match. And ow, I really got a bad map for Arden. The temple is easily one of the two worst maps for him to have that fight on. I'll see what I can do, but I'm not very hopeful at this point... To my pitlords, expect my tactics tomorrow evening. Zevox |
| templer1001-30-08, 04:57 PM | Is it me or is the ECL 12 bracket missing from pairings? (Valen, Elrick, Kitty)? bump - it IS missing. |
| TelinArtho01-30-08, 05:36 PM | * Flutterthought (MindWandererB) vs. Unknown Monster : lonewolf [Arena] [Week 2] should I roll a new monster for this one? Only general monster Info and no tactics have been posted last week. Go ahead and roll a new one (unless you can contact Sjiggie in a timely fashion - which I suspect you can't). Removed Varjo's monster fight. Added Kracknol's monster fight. Added ECL12 all vs all. - Send tactics to me for now. Need a pitlord for this: Valen Sky (Hirumajoe) vs Kitty (lonewolf) vs Elrick Flamebrother (templer10) : XXXXX [Sewer] Until someone speaks up the players involved can send me tactics and I will pass them along to the pitlord or run the fight myself if I get the time. Anything else? |

| Salrantol01-30-08, 06:45 PM | @templer10: Tactics sent for Meinrad the Many-Fisted vs. Graashnak the Many-Voweled via PM. |
| Hirumajoe01-30-08, 08:00 PM | @Lonewolf and Templer10 and whoever winds up Pitlording the ECL 12 FFA: I've noticed and reported that neither Kitty nor Elrick own a holy symbol or spell component pouch. (Although Kitty's cohort does own 2 holy symbols and 1 spell component pouch). Not sure how people want to handle it (strict: they don't have it, or non-strict: just assume they own one of each, make sure they fix it, and include it in their weight - assuming it is an error, but I can't imagine they don't want them since they both have spells requiring components and holy symbols). I've placed posts in the prison thread for reference. |

I have included them below for ease of locating: Ethereal shopping trip (Week 1/1) [Total: 6906gp] [Wand of shadows] Wand of magic missile (Ethereal) [50 charges] [CL9] [- lbs][6,750gp] Spell pouch (Ethereal) [- lbs][5gp] Pouch, belt (Ethereal) [½ lbs][1gp] Scroll of mage armor x3 (Ethereal) [CL1] [- lbs][25gp each] Scroll of silent image x3 (Ethereal) [CL1] [- lbs][25gp each] If you could add the caster levels to the equipment list in the battles post, that would be great. Thanks |
| CrazyArtificer01-31-08, 04:49 AM | @CrazyArtificer Forwarded my Tactics for Wolf-Claw Got them. Got also yours, wb. |
| Durzulgor01-31-08, 06:28 AM | @Crazy: forwarded tactics for Undurion, that should be a fast fight! ;-) |
| CrazyArtificer01-31-08, 06:31 AM | @Durz. Got them. I hope I won't have you roll six natural 1 in a row in this fight :P @Turanson. Tactics for Gimrel sent. |
| whitebaron01-31-08, 08:48 AM | @crazy: about the roller showing nothing. this is an error in the coco dice roller. it cannot (and i don't know why) display 0-s. since 1dx-2 can be zero or even negative, and damage can never be negative, this should be 1 damage. @tactics: yes, seems you saw them instantly after i sent them. |
| CrazyArtificer01-31-08, 09:15 AM | @crazy: about the roller showing nothing. this is an error in the coco dice roller. Ah, I was about to ask. Thanks, in future fights I'll assume blank rolls as zeros. Old Bookbinders are dangerous (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=14970986&postcount=1696) is up |
| TelinArtho01-31-08, 09:32 AM | @whitebaron - S'lertak's tactics have been sent. @hirumajoe - Kraegin's tactics have been sent. Actually went into two PMs for that one - but only because of the stats of his summons. |

| dulsi02-01-08, 08:11 AM | Morro wins this archery contest (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=14979947&postcount=1697) is up Vivi's bolt usage is missing from the result section. @Dr.Funk: Maximum damage of 5 MM is 25. So in the best case scenario you would have 5 more hit points. I can fire two arrows per round instead of one. If both of us need 20 to hit that is not good odds. I didn't bother to close because your only chance was to close and hit with a bigger spell. (Or burn through your MM wand.) Using pillars you could have closed without being shot. Since it is CL3 ignore previous comments. In which case I'm glad I happened to be out of range. |
| CrazyArtificer02-01-08, 08:14 AM | Vivi's bolt usage is missing from the result section. Fixed. BTW, his wand was CL3 so best case scenario damage was 50 hp, with 35 being the average damage |
| Erithmu02-01-08, 10:29 AM | @Telin: Tactics for Owen off. @Zevox: I'm almost sad I have to fight Istima, we had such good times down in the tomb. Nightshades, Guardian Nagas, Undead, and a bunch of really annoying kobolds ... |

| Zevox02-01-08, 01:11 PM | @Telin: Tactics for Owen off. @Zevox: I'm almost sad I have to fight Istima, we had such good times down in the tomb. Nightshades, Guardian Nagas, Undead, and a bunch of really annoying kobolds ... Yeah, I know. 'Tis a pity - Istima has a lot of respect for Owen, as a friend and a scholar, but thats how the arena works. I suppose it had to happen sometime, eh? Owen's a pretty powerful foe too - I'm quite impressed. He reminds me of what I expect Kathren to be like when she gets to high levels (assuming I ever get the credits to qualify her for her Human Paragon levels, of course). @ Telin - Istima's tacitcs have been PMed. One way or another, I expect that fight won't last long. A few rolls on either side will probably end it within 5 rounds. Zevox |

| whitebaron02-01-08, 02:31 PM | Darian ThorneECL8 (lonewolf) vs The Dark One (templer10) and Gwerden Grummler (whitebaron) [Interleague] is up. well, just two questions: @t10: were did my part of the tactics for gwerdan go? @telin: why did gwerdan not flurry in the grapple? please add the corresponding rolls. |
| TelinArtho02-01-08, 02:42 PM | well, just two questions: @t10: were did my part of the tactics for gwerdan go? @telin: why did gwerdan not flurry in the grapple? please add the corresponding rolls. Because it slipped my mind that you could. Doesn't offer you much chance - but I'll work on it presently. EDIT - done. Didn't make a difference. |
| Zevox02-01-08, 02:52 PM | @ templer10 - Tactics for Arden Tarmik (vs Therador Goldscale) have been PMed. That is going to be one quick, brutal fight I suspect. I haven't much hope for Arden, but a little luck could go a long way for him too, so heres hoping... Zevox |
| whitebaron02-01-08, 02:56 PM | Because it slipped my mind that you could. Doesn't offer you much chance - but I'll work on it presently. EDIT - done. Didn't make a difference. ok, thnx for fixing. - can't believe the dice luck i had. Gwerden d20: 12 rolls, 9.5 average Xander d20: 9 rolls, 15.8 average one rant about mercenaries: giving them expendables is nice and all - but potions of invis? it's half what he is worth, and he'll consume it in every fight - so basically you get a very big element of advantage for less than free - the way i see it you even earn money by hiring such a merc. (since you don't pay for things that give you even a bigger boost) |
| templer1002-01-08, 03:18 PM | well, just two questions: @t10: were did my part of the tactics for gwerdan go? I incorporated them into the the same PM. |
| TelinArtho02-01-08, 03:44 PM | @Rith - just need a clarification on your opening tactics. I won't be running the fight today most likely - so just get it to me as soon as possible. |
| TelinArtho02-01-08, 03:47 PM | @t10 - I still have not received Elrick's tactics. Since no one has come forward to take the fight - you should send them to me. |

| CrazyArtificer02-01-08, 04:18 PM | Battle of the Forest Gnome My first fight so please point out everything that could be done better. Thanks for the run. No need to roll crit confirm for a scroll, though, as it is an object and with just 1 hp. I think that the AC is also different. 9 is for unattended scrolls. Keeping in mind that an unattended item has DEX -5 the scroll size modifier should be +4. Add ST dex and the AC should have been 16. I hit anyway, but could be useful for future fights. I have wasted two rounds attacking MoonDancer, but that's a mistake on my tactics.. wasn't clear enough :) |
| Turanson02-01-08, 04:25 PM | wasn't sure about the scroll my self but SDR claims it has and ac of 9 could be when it's by it self but I just used it. About the two rounds I was in doubt but as you did not know if it wanted to attack you I decided that your tatic was to attack it |
| CrazyArtificer02-01-08, 04:27 PM | About the two rounds I was in doubt but as you did not know if it wanted to attack you I decided that your tatic was to attack it Yes, it is a legitimate reading of my tactics. I actually wanted no more than 1 hit on MD if ST was visible (a lucky one to kill the familiar, possibly), but I failed to explicitate my thoughts :) |
| templer1002-01-08, 06:03 PM | Tactics for elrick in the FFA from hell are out - i think those are the longest i ever wrote (and for me that's saying something) sorry about that Telin, but Kitty and Valen are each on their own very very hard foes, and togheter.... I'll be interested to see how this goes. |
| Rauul02-01-08, 06:05 PM | Battle of the Forest Gnome My first fight so please point out everything that could be done better. And a question how does one make the battlemap visible ? thanks for running it.. 2 things i see that could change the outcome.. Round 4 after the Scorching ray should of been a magic missile (2d4+2) and Round 5 till he escapes from the web, he is at 1/2 movement therefore no 5ft step Those are the only things i can see.. |
| Turanson02-01-08, 06:15 PM | I must admit I tried to find a way to use the MM after the Scorching Ray as it seemed the most lological but the following stoped me Quote: Once the scorching ray goes off, if he is still alive Moondancer will Web him and i will crossbow him! About the 5ft step the SDR sayes You can only take a 5-foot-step if your movement isn’t hampered by difficult terrain or darkness and since it isn't the terrain that hampers him I read it as if it is possible to make a 5ft step could be wrong and if I am please tell me |

In such cases it's your call to decide what pieces of tactics you have to use.. by the way after reading his tactics it seems he really wanted to cast that MM (he always assumes to have casted it or to cast it if he still hadn't) so I wouldn't complain if you decide to rerun and have ST cast one Magic Missile. About the 5ft step the SDR sayes You can only take a 5-foot-step if your movement isn’t hampered by difficult terrain or darkness and since it isn't the terrain that hampers him I read it as if it is possible to make a 5ft step could be wrong and if I am please tell me I believe that he's right, but I'll wait someone else to confirm this. However please note that the web is very small and can be destroyed easily, so that would delay Gimrel for a single round probably and that could prove deadly for ST, as the crit will come together with Psionic weapon for 2d6 more |

| CrazyArtificer02-01-08, 06:45 PM | ok I'll rerun it tomorrow with MM for ST and without 5ft step Gimrel. If you have any other comments please tell me Just a quick note on reruns. You usually use the same rolls whenever is possible. So, for example an attack roll is alway an attack roll and can be delayed or anticipated depending on the situation. If there are missing rolls, you roll them |

| dulsi02-02-08, 09:41 AM | Lucifer vs Eland is up. Had some problems with tactics. @mucki: "Manifest Burst (su) as a swift action" is not possible. From SRD "supernatural ability is a standard action unless noted otherwise". Since the Burst ability doesn't specify otherwise it takes a standard action. I had you run instead since you wanted to see the other side as fast as possible I figured delaying a round to activate the ability isn't what you wanted. I was also unsure if I should manifest Force Screen in the case Eland is found. I chose not too. @CrazyArtificer: "If he looks badly wounded and I'm near death (< 6hp) drink a CLW potion." I'm unsure what I should do for this. Five-foot step back, drop your shield, draw potion, and drink potion. You then provoke an AoO later when picking up the shield. Without a free hand this seems like a bad idea. I decided not to do that let me if you disagree. |

Well.. it seems you made us fight all the time in this fashion: http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=El,M,50,30;b=Lu ,M,49,29;c=Bob,M,49,28 However I stated in tactics that Bobi purpose was to use him to flank and get sneak attacks. I believe I could have done that 5ft step and gain +1d6 sneak attack dice on rounds 6-7-8 succesfull attacks. That's at least 3 more damage Looking at the roller it seems you actually made us flank (+2 in the rolls) but then you forgot to add sneak attack damage. As for the CLW potion, I could have dropped the axe, retrieved the potion and drinked it (AoO, I know). Then I could have drawn my warhammer and attacked with it, as the poison was already expended on me on round 2 :) |

| whitebaron02-03-08, 04:46 AM | WW goes big game hunting. well - we should have specified to continue MM instead of casting if one of the raptors is already dead. But hey - i never use that Madness domain spells anyway. |
| mucki02-03-08, 04:57 AM | Lucifer vs Eland is up. Thanks for the fight. @Burst: Burst is a swift action, it says so in the power description: This power increases your land speed by 10 feet. (This adjustment counts as an enhancement bonus to speed.) You can manifest this power with an instant thought, quickly enough to gain the benefit of the power on your turn before you move. Manifesting this power is a swift action You cannot manifest this power when it isn’t your turn. Though I am not sure if this actually trumps the SU description, since the description in the entry for Xephs does not mention swift action again. @Force Screen That was correct. I only wanted to use up force Screen when he would hide and snipe. about the fight: The way the characters are positioned, eland does not flank, but as it is in his tactics I agree with him that he should take that 5' step, flank and get the extra damage. Since I do not have this case covered I think its fair to say that i would stay in the flanked position and not 5' step out of it. I'll make a note of it for my common sense default tactics :) PS: nice change of tactics there CrazyArtificer. that got me completely off-guard :) |
| whitebaron02-03-08, 05:01 AM | it would not make any sense if it was anything else than a swift or free action, since gaining speed for sacrificing a standard action seems somewhat - useless. |

| mucki02-03-08, 06:32 AM | @erithmu: Sorry, but when fixing up Khamul after the fight I realized that the rewards are still off by a bit. I do not have a powerstone of Force Screen, that came from memory. |
| Erithmu02-03-08, 09:47 AM | @erithmu: Sorry, but when fixing up Khamul after the fight I realized that the rewards are still off by a bit. I do not have a powerstone of Force Screen, that came from memory. That is a little problematic, since you can't use 4 pp in the fight and you used 3 on the expansion. Add to the fact that that 4 AC saved your rear on many of those attacks. Since items can be 'lent' to other members of the party. I'm just going to mark one off Falko's sheet in the rewards, you owe him. |
| Zevox02-03-08, 10:17 AM | @Burst: Burst is a swift action, it says so in the power description: Though I am not sure if this actually trumps the SU description, since the description in the entry for Xephs does not mention swift action again. Burst the Xeph racial ability is not Burst the psionic power. The Xeph ability lasts 3 rounds and grants a competance bonus of 10 to 30 feet to your speed, and because it is a supernatural ability which does not specify otherwise it takes a standard action to activate. The power lasts only one round and grants an enhancement bonus of 10 ft to your land speed only, and can be activated as a swift action. Zevox |

In retrospect, Wraith would have gotten his ready off but it wouldn't have been enough to stop the disintegrate - so I'll edit it in if there are other changes needed only. Well now, I couldn't very well ask for much better luck than that - Nole's scouting works perfectly and instantly and Owen fails his save on the first shot of Disintegrate. About time your dice actually gave me some luck Telin ;) . Well, anyway, thanks for running it. Very nice strategy 'Rith, but I'm afraid it just took too long to set up for such a small map. Probably would've worked quite well in the sewers, forest, or city though - thats a lot of Lantern Archon rays I'd be taking each round, especially after the haste. Ouch. Zevox |

I have a pearl of power 1 for that extra pp, but I am fine with the solution of borrowing Falkos stone if he is alright with it too. |
| mucki02-03-08, 11:11 AM | Burst the Xeph racial ability is not Burst the psionic power. Zevox Ah, thx. I didn't realize they are different things. I find it a bit confusing to have different things with the same name tbh ... |
| dulsi02-03-08, 12:11 PM | Well.. it seems you made us fight all the time in this fashion: http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=El,M,50,30;b=Lu ,M,49,29;c=Bob,M,49,28 However I stated in tactics that Bobi purpose was to use him to flank and get sneak attacks. I believe I could have done that 5ft step and gain +1d6 sneak attack dice on rounds 6-7-8 succesfull attacks. That's at least 3 more damage I kinda felt that was good enough for flanking since both you and mucki think you need to be over one more. I've changed it so that you do a 5ft step. I can't believe I forgot the sneak attack damage. Well that made all the difference, Eland defeats Lucifer in the updated fight. (Sorry mucki.) As for the CLW potion, I could have dropped the axe, retrieved the potion and drinked it (AoO, I know). Then I could have drawn my warhammer and attacked with it, as the poison was already expended on me on round 2 :) Well, it doesn't matter with sneak attack damage. For the future I'd suggest specifying what you want to drop and whether to pick it up or draw a different weapon. My instinct is to not provoke AoO if possible. |
| templer1002-03-08, 02:11 PM | Arden and therador takes a break from the fighting and go for the hot springs here (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=14998340&postcount=1705) |
| mucki02-03-08, 03:14 PM | Well that made all the difference, Eland defeats Lucifer in the updated fight. (Sorry mucki.) No need to feel sorry. I concentrated so much on Elands sniping, i did not realize he had sneak attacks at all. For this gross tactical error i deserve to lose tbh. And gratz to CrazyArtificer on Elands first win :) |
| lonewolf02-03-08, 03:57 PM | Arden and therador takes a break from the fighting and go for the hot springs here (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=14998340&postcount=1705) thanks for running. The Temple really is Theradors favorite map :D. |
| Hirumajoe02-03-08, 04:12 PM | Kreagin vs 2 Avoral can be found here. Let me know if you find any problems. There's certainly enough places I could have made mistakes... |
| TelinArtho02-03-08, 05:01 PM | Well - first off - the Avorals have empowered magic missiles at CL8. A regular CL8 MM is 4d4+4. Then you add 50% to it - not just add 2d4+2. I'm not sure if you include the +4 in the empowered or not though (the feat says only variable effects are augmented this way - a straight bonus is not really variable). Regardless - this doesn't likely make much effect on the damage to Toronado. According to my tactics - Toronado is to engage by grappling. As such - the initial roll to attack should be a hit versus their touch AC I believe. That said - I think they are still going to take him out just as quick and then it just comes down to me breaking through SR enough to take them down. Really - if Kraegin did have dismissal here (to even take care of one of them) - I think this fight would have been relatively easy on him. Without it - he had to rely on dealing enough damage - and with them dispelling any of his summons - there's just not much he can do. EDIT: Rewards are off - they need to account for Toronado. |
| Hirumajoe02-03-08, 06:00 PM | You're right on the grapple. However, turns out I forgot to list blur as one of the buffs as they were flying around initially (its in their tactics, I just forgot to list in buffs). Rolled the miss chance for Tornado, and came up with 1d100=16 (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=2268#88627). So still misses. You're right on the empowered, its 4d4+4 x 1.5. Looking deeper into the rules (i.e. the card copy Player handbook - they use magic missile as an example and say multiply the 1d4+1 by 1.5), the +1 is actually multiplied. So damage becomes: 18-> 17, 25-> 28, 17->14, 21->21. Almost exactly the same damage, and enough to drop tornado. I agree Dismissal would have helped *alot*. Will edit rewards, the blur and numbers later today. Thanks for taking a look over. If there's anything else, let me know. Edit: Blur, Magic missile damage, and rewards have been edited in. |
| CrazyArtificer02-03-08, 08:06 PM | PS: nice change of tactics there CrazyArtificer. that got me completely off-guard :) Eh, I spent two weeks thinking about different tactics for Eland, as sniping cleary didn't work :) I still have a couple of tricks to try out :P BTW, Lucifer seems like a nice character.. I'm sure he'll win soon. Well, it doesn't matter with sneak attack damage. For the future I'd suggest specifying what you want to drop and whether to pick it up or draw a different weapon. My instinct is to not provoke AoO if possible. Thanks for the re-run dulsi.. and it happens to forgot something (I added sneak attack in just a line over the whole sheet). You're right about specifying.. I'm too used playing tt spellcasters to think about these little details :) |
| Zevox02-03-08, 09:13 PM | Arden and therador takes a break from the fighting and go for the hot springs here (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=14998340&postcount=1705) Ouch - all the luck Istima got, Arden didn't. I knew things would be bad when I got that map, but I didn't quite anticipate how bad. Ah well - on another map, in another fight, Arden will get a chance at some payback. Hopefully. Thanks for the run. Zevox |
| CrazyArtificer02-04-08, 06:10 AM | run baby run run baby run (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=15004363&postcount=1707) is up |
| whitebaron02-04-08, 06:27 AM | run baby run run baby run (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=15004363&postcount=1707) is up why did you deviate from my tactics and only moved? i said run, and don't let them base me. the movement in round 6 is no run.... |
| CrazyArtificer02-04-08, 06:35 AM | Well, if you count the squares you moved 48 squares so it is running. I just broke the run in two different "steps" to make it easier for me to follow. I thought about moving deeper to the edge, but I had the impression you didn't want to go so deep, as it could create problems in the next round for running away again.. if you think it's a mistake I can change it, but it's a run. |
| whitebaron02-04-08, 06:40 AM | well, given my speed advantage and my tactics, they should never be able to base me by running. the examples were just there for illustration, i never said keep away from the edges - i just wanted to avoid to send you gazillions of pictures in the one tactics. it's ok to stay at 210 ft. - everything closer should be avoided at any costs, especially with the first construct he'll summon most likely being a 5pp one. |
| CrazyArtificer02-04-08, 06:48 AM | No need to send a gazillion pictures, I perfectly understood your tactics. What I wanted to say is that if you moved to the edge, in the following round you would have been at risk of being based, as you would have "wasted" part of your movement to go to the edge, then to quit from it. As the constructs are slower they would have never made it to the edge, but in the following round they would have had an advantage (moving less squares diagonally and being "higher" in the map) and eventually have the chance to close in and base you. Now the questions is: how far metagaming goes on the CoCo environment? If Lelenia knows exactly how many rounds an Astral construct last then it's clear she moves to the edge anyway, as she won't be based in the following round. Otherwise keeping a line clear can help. However I don't want any pointless argument, so I'll change it. |

Otherwise keeping a line clear can help. well - metagaming is handled differently by different pitlords, but it is usually assumed that you at least know roughly what your opponent is doing. i won't know whether his constructs run out in 4 or 5 rounds given his feat, but i can perfectly well know that they have a maximum duration of 5 rounds. |

So one could still be around after moving to the edge, if the one summoned in round 4 was about to last 5 rounds. I'll change that anyway this afternoon or tomorrow, it depends if I can complete a short report in a couple of hours or not. |

I'll change that anyway this afternoon or tomorrow, it depends if I can complete a short report in a couple of hours or not. ok, thnx for that. another note, just to keep you from editing a second time: if he goes for psionic powers instead of Constructs, keep away from him as well. my animals will take care of him, then. if he wants to kill them using his pp or dorje, fine with me. while i did not specify a range for this (stupid me) - i believe i should be running away again once he fires his dorje. note that the only range i specified in the whole tactics was 210ft - but this is nothing i would argue if you decide to run the fight differently. |
| CrazyArtificer02-04-08, 08:09 AM | Well.. after reading this: Well, main task force in this are again the BoT animals. Once i get rid of 2+ Medium Astral Constructs due to end of duration, i know he's out of PP - just continue with ranged attacks mixed with rethrowing new BoT animals. If i survive his summons, i should be good to go. If he skips summons, skip running. just order animal to attack, and shoot with bow. I decided that you would have simply moved + shooted for the rest of the game, possibly forcing Altair to move within Boar range. I considered keeping further away (210 ft) but that seemed a bit too far (-4 range penalty) and if you stay within range increment than you have also to face crystal shards.. Let me know if you have any problem with that. |
| whitebaron02-04-08, 08:38 AM | well, i assumed to keep away - but again, your call. about range increment issues: well, one can always shoot first and then move away. at least my tactics said to keep away, even if they did not specify how far or how much. it's obvious this was not meant to be against him meleeing me, as it is the contingency against him using powers. - as i said - "Well, main task force in this are again the BoT animals." ;) |
| TelinArtho02-04-08, 12:24 PM | I've posted the tactics and sheets for the FFA in the sewer. If someone else wants the 2 credits for that mess - please go ahead. Otherwise, I'll see if I can knock it out when I have time (not now obviously...) |
| Hirumajoe02-04-08, 01:31 PM | I'd offer to take the giant furball in the sewers if I wasn't in it. Oh well. Although, in all the pages of Elrick's tactics (and Kitty's two) I'm amused no one seems to be trying to get rid of the psicrystal... Should've just sent it out to attack and just stayed hidding in my starting square. (Everyone stays put because they don't want to engage, every is considered being attacked by smoke, and Valen wins on round 2,378 due to the other two finally succumbing to smoke effects) Although, here's a question. If you hold your breath after breathing smoke, and have no way to get clean air, are you holding your breath *while* breathing smoke since thats whats in your lungs? Anyways, my condolences to whoever runs it. :D |

| lonewolf02-04-08, 02:22 PM | ONe thing I see is that Elrick wants to do Warp Wood on Kittys Wand and holy Symbol. IMHO both items should still be useable after beeing warped. |
| templer1002-04-08, 02:33 PM | ONe thing I see is that Elrick wants to do Warp Wood on Kittys Wand and holy Symbol. IMHO both items should still be useable after beeing warped. I obviosly dont think so - I think - and True - it's not 100% clear that a warped object is useless - But if there is a ruling it's still usable afterwards - there is obviosly no point in doing it. btw - there is quite a small chance it will actually work... (you have SR and save). |
| TelinArtho02-04-08, 02:35 PM | I'm in agreement with lonewolf on this one. If the wand were being used for an attack - it would suffer the penalties associated with it - but otherwise, it is just a warped wand. |

| Hirumajoe02-04-08, 03:43 PM | well - metagaming is handled differently by different pitlords, but it is usually assumed that you at least know roughly what your opponent is doing. i won't know whether his constructs run out in 4 or 5 rounds given his feat, but i can perfectly well know that they have a maximum duration of 5 rounds. Technically, the "character" knowledge is that Lelenia doesn't know what was cast, because she doesn't have psicraft. There's obviously some constructs showing up, but in principle, the character Lelenia doesn't know the specifics of the Astral Construct power. For the same reason, Altair knows Lelenia is moving faster, but doesn't know for how long (sure I know its a 1 minute duration per level, but Altair doesn't). I could have written tactics which say evade for exactly 40 rounds after Lelenia casts something and starts moving faster, thus making that player knowledge (I can go look up the expiditious retreat spell) explicitly available for the character. I think Whitebaron would have included that in his tactics (move assuming constructs disappear on their 5th round of action) if he'd realized he needed it. I leave it up to the pitlord's discretion since its tactics interpretation (since its not explicitly written). I'm content with whichever way CrazyArtificer rules. Oddly enough, I think because she *didn't* go invisible, she had better odds on this fight, because clause 2 of Altair's tactics didn't kick in. Sometimes being a nice guy does put you in first. :D |
| CrazyArtificer02-04-08, 03:55 PM | @Hirumajoe: I think we need actually some pitlording guidelines for such cases. I already wrote I'll rerun it to factor in that movement, but it's better to have a common point of view for the whole board. For example, if I rule that it's not possible for Lelenia to do that and in the next fight you rule it is, the two opponents get different winning chances depending on it. If we want to have a "fair" arena, we should agree at least a few generic guidelines to follow. |
| whitebaron02-04-08, 04:21 PM | we already had that discussion once, when a pitlord ruled against team WW, that Khamul would not know how long his Protection from Evil would last, since he does not have spellcraft to identify the effect - which was, frankly said, plain stupid - See Khamuls default tactics for muckis response to such a pitlord... About the spell durations: well, if we are not allowed to use such an information, what is the reason behind even writing tactics AFTER pairings? after all, i don't have psicraft, so my character is not supposed to know anything about my opponent. Oh well, and i don't have spellcraft either, so i don't even know what i'm casting myself. it is perfectly normal to know what your opponent can or can't do. as long as you don't assume you can identify the spells cast while it's cast without spellcraft, the results are pretty distinguishable sometimes. i can't look it up, but MWB was on the side of: It's ok to know durations, and use metagame information to write tactics, as long as you don't use it to actually make decisions of your character being based on this. Telin uses such information ("if he has a flame in his hand" - Tactics S'lertak vs. Soren) as well. All in all: if we don't allow such information, we have to ban sending tactics after pairings. - every caster not casting a fireball at Therador Goldscale would be metagaming then, unless he had the appropriate knowledge skills to tell him what this half-dragon can or can't do. Even a simple "Use Power Attack 10" is, in fact, metagaming. |
| CrazyArtificer02-04-08, 04:44 PM | @wb: you've gone a little too far with the PA example, I think. You are using a feat and it's normal to declare an amount which you are going to substract. Knowing particular things about your enemy should be handled differently though. And, btw, a spellcaster without spellcraft shouldn't exist. What I really want though, is a few generic guidelines to simply know what a pitlord should do in similar situations.. something which I don't think would hurt. |
| TelinArtho02-04-08, 04:48 PM | There's no way to avoid metagaming, but there are certainly limitations for people without particular knowledge. For example, I have a wizard with just sleep on his memorized list. My opponent writes tactics to run at 100ft+10ft/CL from a long-casting spell. This is fine. I have the same wizard with also SMII on his memorized list. My opponent cannot write to run away when my character casts sleep - because there's no way for him to identify the difference (without a successful spellcraft check). Also - using physically viewable information is fine - the globe of fire in someone's hands, the burning sword, shimmering globe, etc. That said - against an opponent with potentially both SR and energy resistance - unless you succeed at the spellcraft check - you don't know whether SR blocked the damage or energy resistance. |
| McJarvis02-04-08, 04:56 PM | @wb: Knowing particular things about your enemy should be handled differently though. And, btw, a spellcaster without spellcraft shouldn't exist. perhaps they shouldn't- but you should know that they _do_. In general, we allow gladiators to know when someone is "vaguely doing something like spellcasting" so long as there are outward signs of it. From there the tactics are allowed to tick down rounds since that event occured. As a spellcaster you can try to combat this by using spells that don't have obvious outward displays(like true strike?) combined with just yelling out gibberish. No spellcraft= your opponent thinks you're casting a spell. So to sum it up. Gladiators do not "lose track of time" Gladiators can tell if actions are "spell-casting like", but can only tell the difference between gibberish and a spell with spellcraft. |
| CrazyArtificer02-04-08, 05:00 PM | So, if I get this right you can know range and visible effects.. I guess that's the same with duration then, as duration is level dependent just as the range. We can say a guideline could be: "allow tactics based on known visible effects and generic staments on range and duration. Don't allow tactics which reacts to cast spells unless the character has Spellcraft or Psicraft." |
| CrazyArtificer02-04-08, 05:05 PM | perhaps they shouldn't- but you should know that they _do_. [/list] Sure, they are. But it's plain silly, imho. You cast level 9 spells, maybe you are a Cleric with a zillion different spells and still you can't tell what's the difference between a Bless and an Implosion. |
| whitebaron02-04-08, 05:28 PM | all spontaneous casters are perfectly fine without any spell/psicraft, imo. that's about what they do it, and how they do it. want to force a bard with ranks in spellcraft and knowledge arcane? this would be just ridiculous. on a side note: Soren vs. S'lertak - i did not like any of your tactics, though. the fight reminded me a bit of the superbowl (much defending with few offensive highlights and one lucky hit deciding the game) |
| TelinArtho02-04-08, 05:41 PM | Well - there's a bit of an issue with that fight there. Produce flame was only asked for once in the tactics (pretty explicitly) and even if it wasn't, each attack takes 1 minute off of the duration (not just throws and not just hits - all attacks). That will make things a bit different since he won't be attacking against my touch AC. EDIT: On rereading his tactics I realize I am incorrect. He did ask for Produce flame again if it came to melee. Still doesn't change that it would have expired sooner though. |
| dulsi02-04-08, 05:44 PM | And, btw, a spellcaster without spellcraft shouldn't exist. My tabletop game wishes that was the case. Whenever we have use for spellcraft they ask my cleric to try a skill check but he doesn't have the skill. He was never very good with magic. He accepts and understands how to use the divine power granted by his god but doesn't study magic. |
| lonewolf02-04-08, 05:44 PM | Using Produce Flame in melee doesnt uses the duration up. That only happens if you throw it. |
| Salrantol02-04-08, 06:02 PM | Using Produce Flame in melee doesnt uses the duration up. That only happens if you throw it.Each attack you make reduces the remaining duration by 1 minute. If an attack reduces the remaining duration to 0 minutes or less, the spell ends after the attack resolves.QED. |
| whitebaron02-04-08, 06:22 PM | QED. i'm quite sure you can hold the charge on melee touch attack spells. => it should be possible to do so with produce flame, too. |
| CrazyArtificer02-04-08, 06:26 PM | all spontaneous casters are perfectly fine without any spell/psicraft, imo. that's about what they do it, and how they do it. want to force a bard with ranks in spellcraft and knowledge arcane? this would be just ridiculous. Knowledge arcana is a different matter though. Spellcraft means that you "know" something about magic.. it doesn't mean that you necessarily studied that. You may have found out differences between spells just by trial and error or observing spell effects, so it's not against the concept of a spontaneous caster, I think. My tabletop game wishes that was the case. Whenever we have use for spellcraft they ask my cleric to try a skill check but he doesn't have the skill. He was never very good with magic. He accepts and understands how to use the divine power granted by his god but doesn't study magic. It seems that Cleric-with-no-spellcraft are a must these days. That's the same in one tt game of some friends of mine.. at least they have a couple wizards to compensate :) |

You may have found out differences between spells just by trial and error or observing spell effects, so it's not against the concept of a spontaneous caster, I think. against the concept? certainly not. but it would be wrong to force it on certain characters, i hope they don't do it like that in 4e for streamlining purposes ... |
| Hirumajoe02-04-08, 08:16 PM | @Hirumajoe: I think we need actually some pitlording guidelines for such cases. I already wrote I'll rerun it to factor in that movement, .... Just a note, if Lelenia is going to be running deep into the corner, Altair at some point fairly early on in the fight, should be moving 30', drawing a crossbow as a free action and stowing the dorje, and then starting to take pot shots at Lelenia on the following round since he obviously can't reach her with the dorje. With an entangled boar, its possible to run 120', then shoot, load, and 5' step several times in a row while the boar tries to catch up. Thanks, Hirumajoe |
| TelinArtho02-04-08, 08:32 PM | i'm quite sure you can hold the charge on melee touch attack spells. => it should be possible to do so with produce flame, too. While it is possible to hold "touch" type spells - produce flame is not such a spell and has a specific line (quoted above) that defines its limitations. Specifically - if you make an attack with it - it reduces the time on the spell by one minute. |
| CrazyArtificer02-05-08, 04:22 AM | Just a note, if Lelenia is going to be running deep into the corner, Altair at some point fairly early on in the fight, should be moving 30', drawing a crossbow as a free action and stowing the dorje, and then starting to take pot shots at Lelenia on the following round since he obviously can't reach her with the dorje. Thanks, Hirumajoe Sure, but remind that the Boar won't stay entangled that much.. just a few rounds left. Furthermore you managed to hit with the dorje so far, and Lelenia would still be in range of the dorje probably, even with a run action.. we'll see, running it now. EDIT: ah, now I get what you mean.. The lucky almost critting elf (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=15004363&postcount=1707) is up |
| whitebaron02-05-08, 11:01 AM | thnx for the rerun again - here's what i still found: a) the last shot from altair did 5 damage, so we are both bleeding towards our death, but my animal should damage him as well(cdg), and therefore kill him before i die <- noticed that the roller was wrong. b) astral construct a or b seems to be missing in the map from round 7 c) round 7 movement again: i believe it is not possible or should not be possible for the constructs to base me _and_ flank me like that. you can't run through an occupied square. as this won't affect the fight as it was currently run (and i seem to be unable to use the plains map to figure anything out movement-wise - it's just so big), no need for changes @hirumajoe: i would have liked that last shot to incapacitate me as well :) (see deleted parts above) @telin: will fix fight on wednesday. i still believe this is an error in the spell description, but looking at the "old" 3.0 version, it seems you're right - though there, it had a duration in rounds - which obviously was prone to abuse with multiple attacks. (especially if you can shapeshift) |

If you consider the summing round in the duration they have to disappear at the end of round 7 (3+4+5+6+7) c) round 7 movement again: i believe it is not possible or should not be possible for the constructs to base me _and_ flank me like that. you can't run through an occupied square. as this won't affect the fight as it was currently run (and i seem to be unable to use the plains map to figure anything out movement-wise - it's just so big), no need for changes They didn't run through any occupied square. I broke it down in various steps.. however ACb in the third "move" just goes straight. Then he closes down diagonally, not entering your square. You don't threat, otherwise you would have had an AoO. For ACa simply follow the lines trying to count squares. It doesn't help having 3 out of 6 colors which confond with the plains background. @hirumajoe: i would have liked that last shot to incapacitate me as well :) (see deleted parts above) The only chance for Altair to win (and the reason why I hadn't him surrender) was to score a critical hit and hit for 12 damage. That way you would have been down to -9 and died shortly after on your initiative count. |
| Hirumajoe02-05-08, 12:03 PM | Sure, but remind that the Boar won't stay entangled that much.. just a few rounds left. Furthermore you managed to hit with the dorje so far, and Lelenia would still be in range of the dorje probably, even with a run action.. we'll see, running it now. EDIT: ah, now I get what you mean.. The lucky almost critting elf (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=15004363&postcount=1707) is up Given the tactics and the rolls, I'm surprised it was as close as it was. Although I suppose that was mostly the 12 damage crystal dorje shot, and the final movement choice. Anyways, thanks very much for the run. @Whitebaron: I'd love to have 1d8+4 crossbow damage and have sent you negative as well. :D Mostly because that'd mean I normally have 1d8+4 crossbow damage... |
| McJarvis02-05-08, 12:13 PM | Anyways, thanks very much for the run. This is what you get for having such great luck against thorell :-) |
| TelinArtho02-05-08, 12:20 PM | Critical shocking grasp! (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=15014507&postcount=1711) otherwise known as: Mineau fries Rolf is up! Rewards are still to be done, I'll get them up asap. @Durzulgor - no need to edit the fight - but I wanted to point out an error. When a touch spell is used as a rider to the regular attack, the touch spell becomes additional damage. This changes things a little on the attack - for instance, you have to attack the target's actual AC (rather than their touch AC) and you don't get shocking grasp's bonus to the attack roll. Secondly, since it would be additional dice damage, that would not be multiplied on a critical. All that said - Mineau's tactics didn't call for it to be used in this fashion - so the familiar just wouldn't do the claw damage in the fight. |
| Hirumajoe02-05-08, 12:21 PM | This is what you get for having such great luck against thorell :-) My luck has to swing the other way sometime. :) Now hopefully Altair took it on the chin so that Valen rolls all natural 20s. (I still want to see Control Sound bluff Elrick's bat when he tries to Baleful Polymorph or dispels Valen - although in hindsight, I should have had him base Valen to have a guaranteed way of getting rid of anti-life shell.) |

I'm ok with that- so long as he sucks up all that good luck before Thorell faces off against Kai. [Two weeks from now, I believe?] |
| lonewolf02-05-08, 01:56 PM | Flutterthought vs 2 Adult Arrowhawks is up. If anyone wants to challenge the remaining arrowhawks surrender I will try to finish the fight tomorrow before the pairings, but honestly, they never had a chance. |
| templer1002-05-08, 03:09 PM | durgulzor vs verren is up (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=15015584&postcount=1712)- or how i call it - how to get a 20 at all the wrong times... p.s - i think running a fight in "dark" conditions is even more annoying then pitch black - at pitch black you either can see or you can't, at "dark" everyone and his brother try to hide - it's annoying.... |

If anyone wants to challenge the remaining arrowhawks surrender I will try to finish the fight tomorrow before the pairings, but honestly, they never had a chance. Thanks for the run. I would have been able to write much better tactics if Sjiggie had mentioned that they had wings.... @All: Although I am home now, I seem to have contracted something nasty of a viral nature. (Severe and sudden onset nausea + severe plane turbulence = not fun.) I should be well enough to do updates and pairings on time, but consider this fair warning. |
| TelinArtho02-05-08, 04:55 PM | @MWB - sorry to hear about being sick. Just so you know - I'll update the pairings post with the links to the fights once I'm done with the mess of the FFA for ECL12. Should be later tonight. |

| templer1002-05-08, 05:25 PM | why is verren balancing? i never told to move on the roof... the rules of the map only state that you need to balance IF you are moving. standing on the roof does not qualify for balance checks, and so verren has his dex, and must not make balance checks! It has been ruled once or twice in fights i was part in (at least one of them was with MWB a month or two back) and i asked about it in the past- on the roofs of the city you are always considered balancing - you just dont have to make the balance checks unless you are moving or doing anything else that normally require a balnace check (like taking damage). |

| TelinArtho02-05-08, 05:40 PM | Elrick Flamebrother (templer10) vs Valen Sky (Hirumajoe) vs Kitty (lonewolf) has been posted without results. I'll try to get results up tonight if I can. Although immensely complicated to run - it was actually pretty fun - which is a nice change for me on defensive-style FFAs. Usually the "let the other guys duke it out and I'll sit on the sidelines" from everyone really annoys me - but here it felt pretty reasonable - all-in-all. It might have something to do with running one round at a time and having long breaks in between... |
| templer1002-05-08, 05:50 PM | Telin - iam reviewing the posted fight and i see some problems - About the non healing part - EDIT - i just mapped the fight in the round elrick needs to go to heal and unless iam missing something - there is nothing preventing him from double moving to the safe area - i will remind you that grimlock is medium size - so can fly in the sewer. see map and further explanations in post below. |
| lonewolf02-05-08, 05:51 PM | Thanks for running! Only one thing I see so far that only needs correcting if there are any other edits anyway: Nigel only wanted to dispel Valen and not Elrick as noted in the tactics. Result would be that Elrick still has dispel magic in his ring and that Nigel stays longer in the fight until he has the chance to hit Valen with the dispel. |
| TelinArtho02-05-08, 05:59 PM | 1 SL wrong out of 40 is pretty tough to fault me for. I'll take a look and see and edit accordingly. @lonewolf - I'll double check and if I am in error (I certainly am error prone) - I'll fix it as I fix templer10's item. |
| Hirumajoe02-05-08, 06:00 PM | Telin - iam reviewing the posted fight and i see some problems - About the non healing part - first - why Didnt elrick just go back to his safe area and heal? R14 - dispell - 3 (30 total) R15- dispell - 3 (33 total) Just a note, Dispel magic is a 4th level spell for Druids. Thats 2 extra spell levels you didn't acount for. So actually, Telin was generous and was under counting by 1. :) |
| TelinArtho02-05-08, 06:03 PM | @Joe - good catch. @t10 - I might have the location wrong in the summary for the round. You are not that close to your wall - you moved away in order to get to Valen to cast Baleful polymorph and dispel. Anyway - edits won't be happening this instant - so take your time looking for errors. I'll be back online tonight or tomorrow to finish it up. |

So actually, Telin was generous and was under counting by 1. :) oops - so used to wizards - But the point i made about simply moving to elricks safe area is valid - he could have simply double moved there and healed in peace. |

You are not that close to your wall - you moved away in order to get to Valen to cast Baleful polymorph and dispel. possible - but note that Wall of thorns is alot bigger (or it should be) then the one area i left open in purpose - all i need to do is Enter the wall of thorns to avoid being targeted. I went over your notations (not the end of round summeries) and came up with a diffrent map bu iam still only 70 feet away from the edge of the wall as the Bat flies - and i hade Actually 2 rounds to get there - both round 18 and round 19 and Elrick could have used his CLW wand himself while grimlocks gets him there possibly even gibing him a third round of movement. new map: http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=sewer;a=Name,M,7,21,saf e area start;b=Name,M,26,21,elrick;c=Name,M,20, 20,kitty,rhino;e=Name,M,2,8,valen;f=Name ,M,11,20,safe aarea finish |

Please note, that I made a mistake when updating my character to LV 5 that effects the rewars section: I've got a total modifyer of +12 on my profession now and am LV 5 so my income from profession should be 110gp instead of the old 84gp. Would be nice if you found the time to edit that in. Thx, Durz |

As best I can resconstruct, this is the map at the time of Telin's red text explaining why you didn't go heal. I note that he hasn't updated the position correctly at this point for a few rounds. Presuming the statements in the actual fight are correct as opposed to the end of round summaries, this is the position: http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=sewer;a=Name,L,22,22,Rh ino;b=Name,M,20,20,Kitty;c=Name,M,21,29, Nigel;d=Name,M,26,21,Elrick;e=Name,M,2,8 ,Valen;f=Name,M,7,21,Safe;n=Anti-lif,26,20,2 As far as I can tell, without a bull rush and dropping your anti-life shield, you cannot get past that large Rhino and to the other side's safe spot. And if you go around the other way, you run into Nigel and the Rhino need only move 5' to block the other path completely. Edit: Wanted to say thank you to Telin for running the fight. Valen did better than I expected, but in the end, he was defeated by a natural 1. :D I suppose I need to invest in a wand of delay poison if Kitty is going to be sticking around... Edit2: And as a bonus, Valen levels to ECl 13 with a 2nd place finish! Cereberal Blind! Muhahahahha... Ahem. Sorry. |
| TelinArtho02-05-08, 09:32 PM | Hirumajoe has the right map as far as I can tell - essentially the rhino is a large creature and very much in your way. If you try to circumvent it - you still run into opponents on the other side that you would either need to force your anti-life shell against or hope to evade. Given the enlightenment about your spell levels (so you can't use sleet storm) - do you still want a full edit at this point or can I fix the scroll of faerie fire and be done with it? |
| whitebaron02-06-08, 10:14 AM | slertak vs. soren, v2 taking the rolls from either of you, soren hits twice, which is enough to kill you nevertheless. one more round though, or one more hp, would have made all the difference ... |

| whitebaron02-06-08, 10:42 AM | Thanks for the changes. I wish it had reversed the result - but that's the way it goes. /d yeah, i pretty much thought that would be sorens death - but it looks like i misfigured some hits from the initial produce flame -procedure (touch...). when rechecking with the +4 modifier, they were hits. just a bit too early, else you'd have shred him to piece, i'm sure about that. about tactics: i believe it was a mistake to kill the dog if it is strapped down to the ground - those hits would have made short notice of soren. |
| TelinArtho02-06-08, 10:47 AM | Well - I actually didn't expect him to keep Nanook that close to him during the fight. If Nanook had attempted to engage me at range (while he was throwing the flames) - so he wasn't attacking me directly with the sword (and therefore firing into a melee) - I think killing the dog was a reasonable option. Oh well - one 3FC down with 3 losses. Used 300gp worth of stuff and gained 900gp... might need to see about remedying that situation... EDIT - minor item: I used a crossbow bolt in the fight. (It hit - so it definitely isn't recoverable). |
| TelinArtho02-06-08, 12:31 PM | Final rewards for the FFA are up. @lonewolf - since Nigel would've been still in the fight - Nigel would have still used the dispel on Valen when they gained sight of each other. Since Valen wouldn't have rebuffed and he lost anyway and nothing additional would've been used - I'm just going to say the dispel was used and leave the closing rounds as is. |
