| McJarvis02-06-08, 01:35 PM | Please don't edit the sheet after the deadline or you will lose the match. News and Whatnot MindWandererB is blocked from the Pitlords account for now due to forum difficulties, so pairings may be delayed. At this point we are pretty sure they're still going to happen, though. Rules of Gladius All that you need to know is written in the Rules of Gladius. It could be useful also to give a look to the Court Decisions Part 1 and Part 2. Please do not make fake accounts or insult the Elders. Pairings GM MindWandererB TelinArtho will pair the active Characters of Gladius after the deadline. Link to pairings. Make sure that your character is not in prison. Pitlording You should use the CoCo Dice Roller (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com) for the fight. If you need it, there is a nice template ready to use that will help. You could find the Battle Map Tag Generator (http://www.hwx.it/coco) for dynamic Maps very useful. You must post a link to your fight in this thread when it is complete. If you need a quick and dirty tool to calculate distances between two points (in 2-D or 3-D), this tool (http://wormhole.ath.cx/coco/coco_dist.php) should suffice. Another useful link is the Quick Access tables for XP and Gold. If a fight needs to be rerun, the Pitlord has to inform the Pitlords account. He cannot react to requests from Players because the other player and the pitlord might disagree. He has no time to read the fight and the discussion. Please keep that in mind. PMs from players with rerun requests won't have an impact. Comments & Concerns Post any comments or concerns for this weeks fights in this thread. Be kind and courteous to your fellow posters, and don't feed the pitlords. Please remember that they do hard work and consume a lot of time to let you play. Above all, have FUN! If you have questions or comments on any of the changes, please make your posts be heard in the Council of Gladius! |

| templer1002-07-08, 03:00 AM | @Templer10: Monster info is up in the battles thread. 1 Huge Giant with 2 legs 1 Huge Magical beast with 4 legs and wings Good luck. [/rant] So 1 cloud giant and one Advanced (21!!!! HD) griffon - someone care to tell me who thought advancing a Griffon to Epic levels (more or less) was a good idia? +30 or so to attack and over 200 HP, yea.... that make sense..... can't for the life of me figure out what iam going to do with this one (and i still have to deal with it's cloud giant buddy) [/end rant] |
| Hirumajoe02-07-08, 03:46 AM | There's a ton of spells out there which would deal with it rather handly actually. Lots of hit points and high to-hit at these levels doesn't count for as much as casting level. If you had your full spell compliment, you wouldn't be complaining I think, since you could completely nullify the Griffon with a single spell (Anti-life shell), then use flight to stay out of reach of the cloud giant, only suffering the occassional +12 ranged attack. Heck, in that case, I might have re-rolled it as an auto win... Just be glad I can't put a tattoo of Expansion on the thing... Giants riding Gargantuan griffons would be darn cool. :) |
| whitebaron02-07-08, 03:57 AM | @t10: when i did my last rants about monster fights, i remember you stating that some characters are better for monster fights than others since they have different levels of optimization - time to prove yours. ;) |

(preferably without burning a 30k staff to do it), Btw - latest ruling was that monsters without hands can't use potions correct? |
| hogarth02-07-08, 06:37 AM | i dont remmber saying that? hell iam the chief of the "i hate monster fights club". Hey...I don't remember having a club election recently, and I've been attending every meeting! ;) |

But I think MWB will be able to verify that I sent a PM to the Pitlords account dated February 4 @ 5:03 PM that stated that I would not be able to run any fights this week. Edit: And now I read the Tavern and see that he cannot verify it, but I did send just such a PM. |
| Stormwind02-07-08, 07:02 AM | Well since nobody is speaking up for the poor misunderstood monsters ;) ... I guess Varjo will volunteer to be their spokesmonster :D On a more serious note, I don't think that monster fights are really as bad as they are made out to be. Sure I prefer to fight another PC as then I have a much better idea of precisely what I will be fighting and it is easier to plan for various contingencies where as monster fights tend to be more of an x-factor. However, monster fights aren't so bad if you are well prepared ... sure there is usually one or two that can result in autolosses for the PC, but I try to look at that as a sign that my character is not as well built as it could have been (I've always found room for improvement and optimization in my characters). |
| Stormwind02-07-08, 07:05 AM | I didn't know that Telin was running pairings this week. And my ISP fried my 10/100 card for the fourth time on Monday. But I think MWB will be able to verify that I sent a PM to the Pitlords account dated February 4 @ 5:03 PM that stated that I would not be able to run any fights this week. Hmmmm ... with Salrantol not able to pitlord, is anyone up for running Varjo's fight? Varjo (Stormwind) vs. Unknown Monster : ??? [Cavern] |
| TelinArtho02-07-08, 08:14 AM | I'll grab it Stormwind. I gave myself a couple of easier fights this week in anticipation that I might have errors in pairings for precisely this reason. Monster info to be up shortly. |
| TelinArtho02-07-08, 08:19 AM | Stormwind is facing a huge creature that once had the magical beast type. Good luck. |
| TelinArtho02-07-08, 09:24 AM | @sjiggie, crazyartificer and turanson - all of my tactics have been sent. |
| Sjiggie02-07-08, 02:42 PM | @TelinArtho tactics received no questions @Salrantol tactics received asking for one clarification @my pitlords tactics will follow tomorrow. |
| Stormwind02-07-08, 03:18 PM | Stormwind is facing a huge creature that once had the magical beast type. Good luck. @Telin: Varjo's tactics sent. I'm guessing her opponent is a half-celestial Remorhaz ... lets see how things go with Varjo's new cohort. At least both the cavern map and the dark lightning favor Varjo ;) |
| Hirumajoe02-07-08, 03:24 PM | i dont remmber saying that? hell iam the chief of the "i hate monster fights club". p.s - that cloud giant is still a non factor really (it can't have that many rocks...) - But i need to somehow stay alive long enough to cause enough DMG to that damn gryphon... (preferably without burning a 30k staff to do it), Btw - latest ruling was that monsters without hands can't use potions correct? Ah, but the Griffon has this handy Cloud Giant right next to it capable of feeding them to it. Since any expendables have to be on the Giant anyways (since the Griffon has treasure: None), its not really an issue for this fight (either it doesn't get any, or the Giant gives them to it). |
| McJarvis02-07-08, 03:35 PM | @dulsi- tactics for thorell are away. |
| CrazyArtificer02-07-08, 03:46 PM | @Telin: Eland's tactics out. I got yours ;) |
| templer1002-07-08, 04:57 PM | Hirumajoe - the probably hopeless tactics for elrick are out. |
| MindWandererB02-07-08, 05:55 PM | @Rith: Tactics for Gak against Darian again have been sent. |
| McJarvis02-07-08, 05:56 PM | @Rith: Tactics for Gak against Darian again have been sent. Getting tired of fighting kineticists yet? |
| lonewolf02-07-08, 06:19 PM | Getting tired of fighting kineticists yet? hey, he won the first round. Darian has a right for a rematch! ;) |
| Turanson02-07-08, 06:34 PM | @ Crazy tatic for mineau sent @ Telin tactic received |
| McJarvis02-07-08, 06:42 PM | hey, he won the first round. Darian has a right for a rematch! ;) Heh. I was referring to MWB as a player- I think his pixie has been facing off against kineticists alot lately as well. [or maybe there are just lots of kiniti's floating around nowadays] |
| CrazyArtificer02-07-08, 06:44 PM | @Turanson: got your tactics. :) |
| lonewolf02-07-08, 06:48 PM | Heh. I was referring to MWB as a player- I think his pixie has been facing off against kineticists alot lately as well. [or maybe there are just lots of kiniti's floating around nowadays] ok I get that. Darian fought 3 times vs Flutterthought and now the second time vs Gak. On the other hand both Flutterthought and Gak were the only ones able to defeat Darain one time each... |
| MindWandererB02-07-08, 07:30 PM | You're right... Gak has only had one previous fight with a kineticist, the previous encounter with Darian. It's Flutterthought who's fought Darian 3 times (accounting for 2 of her 3 losses) and Felice once, out of 10 fights--and out of 7 fights that were actually run and not surrenders. |
| Hirumajoe02-07-08, 07:47 PM | If anyone is curious as to what Elrick is exactly facing this week, Alice and Fluffy are now up in this thread. Plus its always good to have someone make sure I didn't make a mistake before I run it. :) |

Plus its always good to have someone make sure I didn't make a mistake before I run it. :) WEll - look like i was completly right in guessing the presence of PFE and fly potions - not to see if it will actually do me any good... well - one good (unless you are hirumajoe) thing is - we are going to break the Coco record for summons - anywhere from 8-15 summons - Sort of like the ariplanes buzzing around king kong... Hiru- one thing wrong - it should have +27 to attack (+21+8-2) and the claws the same bonus due to improved multi. |
| Hirumajoe02-07-08, 08:31 PM | WEll - look like i was completly right in guessing the presence of PFE and fly potions - not to see if it will actually do me any good... well - one good (unless you are hirumajoe) thing is - we are going to break the Coco record for summons - anywhere from 8-15 summons - Sort of like the ariplanes buzzing around king kong... Hiru- one thing wrong - it should have +27 to attack (+21+8-2) and the claws the same bonus due to improved multi. It has weapon focus (Bite). But you're right, the claws are low. Should be +27. Thanks for pointing it out. We'll see how the Combat reflexes plan works out (I noticed the bite damage was so much larger than claws and was trying to figure out how to take advantage of it. Best I could come up with was combat reflexes - since you use the primary attack with it - Its a similar trick I use with Valen and expansion). |
| tunagolem02-08-08, 02:57 AM | Okay - I think pairings are done. Where? |
| mucki02-08-08, 03:22 AM | They are at (near) the end of the battle thread, since only the Pitlords account can update the other one. The battle thread always contains a copy of the pairings page for later reference. |
| MindWandererB02-08-08, 03:23 AM | Where? Here. |
| whitebaron02-08-08, 04:39 AM | @t10: fast tactics for gwerdan sent. :) |
| TelinArtho02-08-08, 09:50 AM | Speaking of which - @McJ - it might be better practice to post the link to the pairings post in the battles thread rather than to the one in the characters thread. You wouldn't be able to have it in there right away - but this way it doesn't create confusion when I have to do pairings. |

| TelinArtho02-08-08, 10:15 AM | Solid - thanks. |
| CrazyArtificer02-08-08, 10:36 AM | Holy beating (or should I say Holy missing) (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=15040612&postcount=1718) is up |
| TelinArtho02-08-08, 10:45 AM | Once I saw the healing contingency in there for Korwald, I knew Berri stood an even smaller chance of winning. Thanks for the run. One small thing though - Korwald cannot hold the wand and attack at the same time. That means that after he draws it the first time, he either needs to stow it (draws an AoO) or he needs to drop it and later pick it up (draws an AoO). |
| CrazyArtificer02-08-08, 10:46 AM | @Telin: same thought I had, until I noticed the issue with that contingency wording. Just don't say anymore that you expect a short fight, please :D Edit: You are right. It's better for him to stow it and attack though. I'll roll the AoOs later, I need to leave the pc for a while Edit2: As provoking AoOs is something the pitlord should always try to avoid, here's the new sequence: Korwald ends healing, Dragor steps back, Korwald stows the wand, Berri steps forward, Berri attacks. Nothing change. |
| CrazyArtificer02-08-08, 11:46 AM | @Durzulgor: deadline is coming.. trust me, you don't want me to run this fight with default tactics :) |
| lonewolf02-08-08, 11:52 AM | @Crazy: thanks for running. I wont complain because of the CLW charges because it was more or less what I wanted to do. I didnt expect to use that many charges, but Im fine with it. |
| TelinArtho02-08-08, 12:00 PM | @Telin: same thought I had, until I noticed the issue with that contingency wording. | CrazyArtificer02-08-08, 12:02 PM | @Crazy: thanks for running. I wont complain because of the CLW charges because it was more or less what I wanted to do. I didnt expect to use that many charges, but Im fine with it. Nice to hear that. Congrats on your win :) |
| whitebaron02-08-08, 12:12 PM | @Durzulgor: deadline is coming.. trust me, you don't want me to run this fight with default tactics :) still 3 hours, though. more than enough to send 20 tactics pms. ;) |
| CrazyArtificer02-08-08, 12:55 PM | LOL! I hope to receive a bit less :P |
| whitebaron02-08-08, 12:59 PM | LOL! I hope to receive a bit less :P well. wait for the day you pitlord two of t10s fights... :D |
| templer1002-08-08, 01:18 PM | well. wait for the day you pitlord two of t10s fights... :D hey - I resent that.... Sort of.... Althrough i really do feel sorry for hirumajoe this week - but i suppose he can only blame the roller for rolling those !@$#!@ monsters. |
| TelinArtho02-08-08, 01:27 PM | I am absolutely loving my luck in the S'lertak fight... Need a 14 to hit him with a 1d10 crossbow bolt (he has 3hp), I roll a 13... Saving throws DC19 1d20+3=10+3 DC18 1d20+2=7+2 DC16 1d20+3=1!+3 Not that I feel I had a good chance on the saves - but it certainly would've been nice to have one roll that turned out in my favor. @Turanson - a CDG is automatic critical damage (barring Fortification or some other condition anyway) - so no need to roll that. |
| Turanson02-08-08, 01:30 PM | jep you realy struck gold this time btw: don't I need to confime the crit? |
| TelinArtho02-08-08, 01:33 PM | Nope: As a full-round action, an enemy can use a melee weapon to deliver a coup de grace to a helpless foe. An enemy can also use a bow or crossbow, provided he is adjacent to the target. The attacker automatically hits and scores a critical hit. (A rogue also gets her sneak attack damage bonus against a helpless foe when delivering a coup de grace.) If the defender survives, he must make a Fortitude save (DC 10 + damage dealt) or die. |
| Zevox02-08-08, 01:34 PM | @ lonewolf - Tactics for Istima (vs Valen vs Kracknol) have been PMed. What I wouldn't give for a sunrod right now... Christ I don't envy you that match. Zevox |
| Turanson02-08-08, 01:34 PM | ok thanks |
| dulsi02-08-08, 01:42 PM | What I wouldn't give for a sunrod right now... Telin does pairings for two weeks and the world turns dark. Denth's power seems to have infected his entire being. |
| TelinArtho02-08-08, 01:47 PM | Excuse me - Darkness is not one of Denth's domains. Now if summons started popping up out of the woodwork - I might agree with you. |
| Turanson02-08-08, 01:55 PM | The blind and the one who can't hit is up. please post any comment you may have, even if it does not change anything I don't want to make my mistakes to many times. |
| TelinArtho02-08-08, 01:59 PM | No problems from me. If I can't hit the broadside of a barn or recover from a common cold - then I do not deserve to win that fight... Nice run. |
| TelinArtho02-08-08, 02:04 PM | Varjo (lonewolf) vs Half-Celestial Remorhaz (Unknown Monster) is up. |
| Sjiggie02-08-08, 02:05 PM | Working on my tactics for Gradak and Valanthe now sorry for them being. -Sjiggie |
| McJarvis02-08-08, 02:05 PM | The blind and the one who can't hit is up. please post any comment you may have, even if it does not change anything I don't want to make my mistakes to many times. That fight vaguely reminds me of an x-files episode where moulder tried to shoot out the tires of a van that was driving in circles around a parking lot. He and the local sheriff just stood in the middle of the circle shooting at the van tires with his voice-over saying "It turns out it's alot harder to shoot out tires than it is in the movies" :-) |
| lonewolf02-08-08, 02:10 PM | Varjo (lonewolf) vs Half-Celestial Remorhaz (Unknown Monster) is up. A cookie to the one who sees the mistake here. |
| TelinArtho02-08-08, 02:12 PM | Well - if it is a fight-altering mistake - you'll have to tell me... |
| lonewolf02-08-08, 02:16 PM | Well - if it is a fight-altering mistake - you'll have to tell me... The mistake Im talking about is not in the fight but rather in your post... Spoiler: Its just that Varjo isnt my chracter but Stormwinds. :P |
| CrazyArtificer02-08-08, 02:24 PM | @TelinArtho: ever heard about Murphy's laws? :D @lonewolf: not only that. Varjo (lonewolf) vs Half-Celestial Remorhaz (Unknown Monster) is up. Some serious personality issues for the Remorhaz! I can see it running around questioning itself about his true nature. |
| TelinArtho02-08-08, 02:25 PM | Meh - I just uncovered your secret... lonewolf = Stormwind! For some reason I mix the two of you up all the time (usually to myself and I have no clue why)... |
| TelinArtho02-08-08, 02:27 PM | Some serious personality issues for the Remorhaz! I can see it running around questioning himself about his true nature. If you want something questioning itself, I guess you should go see Gribbit in the latest MDMC... |
| CrazyArtificer02-08-08, 02:31 PM | If you want something questioning itself, I guess you should go see Gribbit in the latest MDMC... Amazing! dulsi, you must win this one :) |
| McJarvis02-08-08, 02:32 PM | Eh, not as funny as the half-dragon bat swarms I've thrown at parties before ;) |
| TelinArtho02-08-08, 02:33 PM | That was his alternate entry - submitted after the deadline. That said - I think his actual entry has a good chance of running away with the win or at least scoring in the top 3. On the other hand, I'm not as confident about my own entry. |
| Stormwind02-08-08, 02:42 PM | hmmm ... @Telin: I just noticed something that might be a problem in Varjo vs Remorhaz. The special qualities for the half-celestial state:A half-celestial’s natural weapons are treated as magic weapons for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction. However, incorporeality is different from damage reduction, so how does the Remorhaz actually manage to attack Varjo? |
| CrazyArtificer02-08-08, 02:43 PM | That was his alternate entry - submitted after the deadline. That said - I think his actual entry has a good chance of running away with the win or at least scoring in the top 3. Too bad he couldn't submit that one.. I like it more than the other one :) On the other hand, I'm not as confident about my own entry. I read it, seems nice as well.. maybe not very original, but still enjoyable and a nice challenge for the party (at least bring some investigation on the table). BTW, is it my impression or you used some Italian words in that name? :) |
| TelinArtho02-08-08, 02:49 PM | I sometimes draw upon other languages for things that I want to name. I don't pretend to have a full understanding of the language - I just grab words that work well for what I'm looking for. Sculampo does indeed have lightning in there (lampo - Italian) and sculptor. Of course La Sculpteuse de Foudre would be French. I use it as a tool to have meaning in a name that would otherwise be foreign to the common onlooker. dulsi uses this in some of his things as well. I have referenced his creation, Megaptalot (http://identicalsoftware.com/rpg/dnd/megaptalot.html), in a few places (Aquan Retribution, one of the quests I ran for Sjiggie a while back, etc). |
| McJarvis02-08-08, 02:53 PM | The special qualities for the half-celestial state:However, incorporeality is different from damage reduction, so how does the Remorhaz actually manage to attack Varjo? Now that's interesting. Are there any creatures whose natural weapons are treated as magical for the purposes of bypassing incorporeality, or is a incorporeal creature with Ghost-touch weaponry able to auto-win vs virtually every natural-weapon-using monster in the Monster Manual? |
| CrazyArtificer02-08-08, 02:55 PM | I often use a similar approach.. being my first language Italian however, I often mix in French or English words in tabletop chars.. or just make the anagram (Rogue-->Ladro-->Ordal/Ardol/Alord) |
| lonewolf02-08-08, 02:56 PM | Magic Fang or an Amulet of Mighty Fist helps there. Otherwise the monster is indeed screwed. |
| MindWandererB02-08-08, 03:49 PM | Nope: An incorporeal creature has no physical body. It can be harmed only by other incorporeal creatures, magic weapons or creatures that strike as magic weapons, and spells, spell-like abilities, or supernatural abilities. That's exactly what the half-celestial does. It's not phrased in the clearest manner, but it's clearly there. |
| Stormwind02-08-08, 04:17 PM | Nope: That's exactly what the half-celestial does. It's not phrased in the clearest manner, but it's clearly there. hmmm ... ok missed that part entirely ... ... although I would argue that a half celestial's natural weapons do not strike as magic weapons, they are only treated as magic weapons for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction. However, at this stage I'll leave further discussion in the hands our GM and the elders ;) |
| McJarvis02-08-08, 04:31 PM | hmmm ... ok missed that part entirely ... ... although I would argue that a half celestial's natural weapons do not strike as magic weapons, they are only treated as magic weapons for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction. However, at this stage I'll leave further discussion in the hands our GM and the elders ;) You are correct in that strictly by the rules the half-celestial does not have "treated as magic" natural weapons- however, I agree with MWB that the intent of the rule-writer is as he has said. Furthermore- if we went with the literal statements of the rules then it would greatly complicate the interactions of monster fights with incorporeal beings. [and thus would be obviously bad for CoCo at this late stage of 3rd edition games] Normally I'd say let the rules be, but in this case I think it'd be more work for pitlords who roll monsters for incorporeal gladiators than not, since the natural assumption is the intent. Essentially- this falls under the jurisdiction of "how most DMs would handle it". [Which MWB just mentioned in the tavarn is a guiding light of how to make rulings in CoCo.] |

| TelinArtho02-08-08, 05:13 PM | Yay - a win. With how the dice were going there, I thought it was going the same way as S'lertak's fight... Thanks for the run. |
| CrazyArtificer02-08-08, 06:29 PM | Who wants can have a look at Durzulgor monster fight. (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=15027483&postcount=1715) A phrenic vampire spawn at EL 5 is plain evil, IMHO. |
| Zevox02-08-08, 09:12 PM | @ templer10 - Asran's tactics in that insane FFA have been PMed. All I can say is that I do not envy you that fight. Zevox |
| Durzulgor02-08-08, 11:55 PM | Who wants can have a look at Durzulgor monster fight. (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=15027483&postcount=1715) A phrenic vampire spawn at EL 5 is plain evil, IMHO. Well he can't get out of my reach, so as long as I'll find him I should be able to destroy him! ;-) Let's just hope he doesn't survive the alpha-strike! ;-) |
| CrazyArtificer02-09-08, 04:23 AM | Yes Durzulgor, the map helps you.. but just think about fighting such a thing on any different map.. EDIT Gladius got a new Vampire slayer! (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=15027483&postcount=1715) is up. |
| dulsi02-09-08, 11:06 AM | Thorell smashes Gradak's stuff minus rewards is up. Let me know if there are any problems. I had Gradak surrender once he had no weapons left. @McJarvis: What is "back center corner"? Would be nice if you listed what enlarge and bull's strength do to everything on the character sheet. |
| McJarvis02-09-08, 11:09 AM | Thorell smashes Gradak's stuff is up. Let me know if there are any problems. I had Gradak surrender once he had no weapons left. @McJarvis: What is "back center corner"? Would be nice if you listed what enlarge and bull's strength do to everything on the character sheet. Sorry- I likely meant "back center square". I used to list all my stat bonuses on TIM when I ran him- but the problem is I don't always use enlarge+bulls strength, so it just ends up being a ton of text on the character sheet that aren't needed. Maybe I'll add in a sblock giving a rough description of what each does- but this is going to get even more chaotic as he levels & uses all sorts of different types of buffs & combinations of them all. Right now he runs Mage Armor, Shield, Bull's Strength, Enlarge Person, Web, Pro:evil, exped retreat, & alter self- none of which is a "standard" buff for him. Nothing you missed is major or fight affecting. The sunder attempt vs his rapier should have been an opposed roll[since it is a melee weapon]. Thorell gets pretty substantial boni on that[his attack roll goes from +13 to +25, due to a +4(two handed) and +8(two size category difference) bonus.] Thorell's min damage destroys the rapier. It is a one-handed blade[5hp] that is small sized [1/2 hp = 2 hp]. There's no way he could hit it and *not* sunder it :) [unless you were accounting for hardness? the axe is adamantine- so that's ignored] Otherwise, thanks for the run. |

| Erithmu02-11-08, 09:22 AM | @LW & MWB: Been a busy weekend, I'll probably work on the fight tonight or tomorrow morning, don't get too antsy. |

| whitebaron02-11-08, 04:24 PM | @whitebaron in the fight Soren vs Lucifer (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=15065018&postcount=1724). i moved to the left and just sat there and fired until he got to me, but in my tactics it said to... once i see him after looking for him spontaneously cast SNA II for a hippogriff in place of summon swarm. between us in the air. the reason for this is: f he doesnt appear in 3 rounds then draw wand of long strider and cast it then move clock wise untill i see him. once i see him after looking for him ... which seems to me, you only wanted to do this if you go looking for him. note that he would have PfE active, which would have negated all of the griffon. |
| Dr. Funk02-11-08, 04:37 PM | the reason for this is: which seems to me, you only wanted to do this if you go looking for him. note that he would have PfE active, which would have negated all of the griffon. 1. i was looking for him. i used wand to move faster so i can find him faster. 2. .... i didn't realize he had PfE potion |
| mucki02-11-08, 04:45 PM | Thanks for the run wb. I know that just beating him up would have been faster, but I wanted to test my grapple skills and he seemed like a good practice dummy ;-) Anyway, you list my AC as 13+4, but it should be 17+4. Probably just a typo, and with Sorens attack rolls it doesn't matter either way. |
| whitebaron02-11-08, 04:47 PM | 1. i was looking for him. i used wand to move faster so i can find him faster. 2. .... i didn't realize he had PfE potion i can update the fight to use the griffon and PfE, but it wouldn't change much. I'm hesitant to do so, since you did not specify what "looking for him" exactly means. looking for means "search" - which you did not do at the moment you spotted him. standing in a corner is not exactly what i'd call go looking for someone. thats why i skipped the summons, as well as the longstrider. @mucki: looks like i took the flat-AC. |
| mucki02-11-08, 05:06 PM | I don't have any problems with using the PfE potion. There is just one thing that I'd like changed in the rewards: you forgot my free activity (profession, 60gp). |
| whitebaron02-11-08, 05:34 PM | I don't have any problems with using the PfE potion. There is just one thing that I'd like changed in the rewards: you forgot my free activity (profession, 60gp). fixed |
| mucki02-11-08, 05:40 PM | thanks :) |
| TelinArtho02-11-08, 08:40 PM | Just an update - my wife has come down with the flu and this has disrupted my entire weekend and upcoming week. Unfortunately, this puts the state of my remaining fights in a big question. I will try to fit them in when I can - but it will be mostly dependant on what hours I get free to work on them. Regardless - I should be able to fit them in before Wednesday's deadline - but I wouldn't count on it before tomorrow's deadline. As an aside - congratulations goes to dulsi for his 2nd place finish in the 40th MDMC competition. My lackluster performance will have to be avenged next time I guess... (after submitting Sculampo - I felt I left a number of things open and unresolved - so I'm not terribly disappointed with my placement...) |

My lackluster performance will have to be avenged next time I guess... (after submitting Sculampo - I felt I left a number of things open and unresolved - so I'm not terribly disappointed with my placement...) When is the next one, anyway? Or for the more lazy of us- care to just announce it in the tavern when it comes around? :) |
| TelinArtho02-11-08, 09:08 PM | Lol - I have announced each one that has come up since I first started entering (MDMC 37). And yes - I will probably announce the next one as well. I figure - my posting there helps bring in some to the CoCo - and likewise - my posting here might help drum up entrants for the MDMC. |
| TelinArtho02-11-08, 09:40 PM | I've posted the setup for both of my remaining fights. If anyone does find they have the extra time to pick one up - just post here to say so. As I said - I should be able to get them done before wednesday - but who knows what lies between now and then. |

I've been meaning to do that, but I can never think of a meaningful name for it. Maybe it's name _is_ camel and Thorell is not that charismatic/thoughtful. |

Better hurry it up. Otherwise some smart aleck is going to call it something like Joe, Zoë, or Sopwith. |
| templer1002-12-08, 02:06 AM | Unfourtently - yesterday My computer Has come down with a bad case of Viruses, so i can mostly post from work only and when iam at home iam concetrating on cleaning it - So i most likely wont have time to run Asran VS therador vs raskos - So if someone wants to pick it up Tactics are here - otherwise ill have to get to it if/when i solve my computer problems (which probably means a fight delay). Hi Templer10, I just accidentally closed the window with the nearly completed tactics... slip of the mouse. Here's another crack at it. The basic idea is that Yaurl will block charge lanes, and try to protect Raskos. Raskos will put up some basic buffs, and use spells and phrenic powers to support Yaurl. Raskos starts back left corner with Yaurl standing adjacent and infront of him. Scathers is perched on his shoulder. 1) Raskos activates boots of flying and gain 30' altitude. Yaurl quaffs potion of magic fang and gains 30' of altitude Scathers becomes invisible. 2)Raskos casts shield and moves to top of arena. Yaurl moves to top of arena, and positions himself 10' in front of Raskos blocking charge lanes. Scathers activated detect magic, and begins concentrating to spot incoming aura's not attributed to the main characters. (This guy is watching for an invisible imp coming in with shocking grasp, and he will notify Raskos if that's coming. ) 3)Yaurl will stay at the prescribed range (10') and tap at tattoo of force screen when melee looks imminent. Raskos continues to buff as long as allowed. Buff in the following sequence till he needs to respond to approaching melee threats. Mirror Image (scroll), Defensive Precognition, Inertial Armor 1pp, Vigor 6pp, energy resistance fire (scroll), see invisibility (scroll). 3?)I expect the melee guys to move to melee in round 3 or 4, but buff as long as allowed. Yaurl will stand in front blocking charge against Raskos, and activate his tattoo of force screen when it appears foes are moving to melee. If possible he will ready an action to bite attackers. He will use his bite as best possible to get extra AoO's and maneuver to block charge lanes or provide cover for Raskos. Yaurl will save his psionic focus for a CDG, unless that's no longer possible and then he'll use it on the next melee attack. Managing Raskos's attacks will take some judgment. I trust you to look at the situation, and attack whomever appears to be the biggest threat at that moment. Raskos will cast Blindness on Therador when he comes into range. Cast Deep Slumber if that fails. If necessary try Blindness again. If Asran comes into range, open with phrenic ability psychic crush. If only one of the warrior's remains after the first attempts fail, try brain lock. If initial attempts fail, and both warrior's remain, try stinking cloud and psionic blast if you can hit them both. If indirect attempts fail and direct damage is necessary, start with phrenic mindthrust, then use the wand of MM against Therador and the dorje of crystal shard against Asran. At this stage, try to stay mobile and use their limited maneuverability against them. End Raskos's turn a significant distance behind the opponent, and thereby limit their ability to close into melee. Contingencies: If Raskos or Yaurl takes melee damage use an immediate action to activate the PLA Intellect Fortress. (they should be close enough to both benefit) If Raskos is wounded to 20hp or less, use PLA body adjustment to heal. If Raskos is targeted by a will save, use empty mind PLA. If Raskos is wounded to 20hp or less, and healing isn't an option, then use 6pp vigor or the stone of vigor. If Yaurl is wounded to 15hp or less, he'll flee the battle. If Raskos is in melee and it's looking bad, cast invisibility and fly away to heal/prepare. If summoned creatures appear, use Dispel Psionics 5pp to deal with them. Area Dispel is best against a group of them. If they are attacking with bows from range, Raskos and company will fly down and shelter in one of the narrow alleys. Then cast invisibility and Yaurl stays below while Raskos waits above for the foes to come close and regain LOS. Raskos will use Stinking Cloud against them, and then continue with his attacking strategy. Notes/please don't forget: Raskos has PR 19. Yaurl and Scathers have DR. Raskos has a ring of counterspell with dispel magic stored in it. Yaurl gets to trip anytime his bite hits... Tripped fliers fall. Also Therador doesn't count as a quadruped while flying. Both Asran and Therador have average maneuverability, and must move every round. These movements will likely grant AoO's. Raskos will cast/manifest defensively or use 5' steps to avoid AoO's when necessary. If someone's trying to sneak up on me, Scathers has some listen checks to help. I hope that's enough to handle the possible situations. If not, then feel free to improvise as you see fit. Cheers, Sauro Hi and thanks for pitlording! Therador is gonna do the thing that is usally the stupid thing to do in a FFA: He will go on full offense. He starts with his lance in hands and flies out, trying to engage Raskos as fast as possible(Try to ignore Asran at first). Charge him with the lance and use Psionic Weapon on the hit. Note that Therador is able to do one 90 degree turn while running or charging because of the Fleet of Foot feat. After the charge full attack if possible(drop the lance to do that) or go for a grapple otherwise. Im really hoping that speed kills here. But there is the chance that he is invisible and continues buffing. In that case buff myself with Resist Energy(sonic & electricity) from Wand, Force Screen and defensive precognition until he shows himself. If Yaurl engages me while Raskos is invisible withdraw towards the top of the map and bullrush him out of it when he follows me. After I killed Raskos or if Asran engages me also try to lure Asran towards the top of the map and bullrush him of it. If the bullrush plan doesnt work, simply charge and full attack Asran. If at any point the breath weapon seems to be more efficient than normal attacks use it. greets lonewolf Asran starts in the default position, holding his greataxe and brooch of shielding. Senorda is beside him, holding a scroll of heroism. Arynat, invisible, is on her shoulder, holding Senorda’s wand of magic missiles. General tactics: Buff then fly out and engage foes as found. Avoid charges from Therador, KO him with magic + Asran’s anti-good abilities, KO Raskos with melee + supporting magic. Round 1: Asran switches his amulet of might fists for his brooch of shielding. Senorda casts heroism on him. Round 2: Asran stows the amulet and casts corrupt weapon on his greataxe. Senorda polymorphs into an Avoral. Round 3: Asran draws and drinks a potion of shield of faith. Senorda casts resist energy (fire) on herself. Round 4: Asran taps a tattoo of force screen. Senorda begins casting SM IV for a Lantern Archon (ironic, but this is the only summon on that list that will help me much here). Round 5+: Senorda’s summoning finishes, and she casts haste on the group. The Archon will use continual flame on Senorda’s sword (gets some light for Arynat). They all then fly out. (If Asran needs to delay to receive the haste, do so.) The Arhcon will stick near Asran to provide him magic circle against evil and fire light rays at anything Asran engages. If Senorda has a round to do so before engaging a foe, cast Shield. Round X+: Upon sighting a foe, engage immediately: Therador – Asran will use his unholy blight on him, then charge to melee for full attacks. Dive if possible, hover if necessary. On the first physical attack, use smite good for +7 damage. Meanwhile, Arynat will use UMD to fire magic missiles at Therador, and Senorda will hit him with Sonic Scorching Ray and her memorized magic missile. Then she will take her wand back from Arynat and cast shocking grasp with him as the toucher. She’ll then use her wand while Arynat goes invisible and delivers the touch. From there the melee and magic missiles ought to down him. Raskos – Probably the bigger threat. Not much I can do about Yaurl, other than to avoid him if possible – killing him is too much of a time investment. Asran should go to melee with Raskos ASAP (charge/dive is good if possible), use a poison SLA on him, and then full attack. Senorda will hit him with dispel magic (area version – Ring won’t stop it that way, but it can only dispel one spell/power), try a hold person (Asran will CDG on the tiny chance this works, of course), and have Arynat deliver a sonic grasp. All the while Arynat uses UMD to fire the wand, then when grasp time comes Senorda takes it back and uses it thereafter. Both – Raskos takes priority, but avoiding Therador trumps attacking Raskos for Senorda. If the two are fighting each other, the group will sit back, launch a few spells into the mix (Unholy Blight, MMs, sonic ray), and let them kill each other first. Notes - Asran has DR 5/magic, resist 10 to everything but sonic, and SR 17. - When flying, Asran should always either maintain minimum forward speed (15’) or end hovering (move action to commence). - Always avoid allowing Therador a charge lane. Also, Senorda should avoid melee with Therador or Yaurl if at all possible. - Asran and Senorda have darkvision 60 ft. The Archon provides its own light, and its continual flame will provide light for Arynat. - Asran’s party is immune to Yaurl’s Bay – all evil outsiders. - Senorda’s important stats in Avoral form: STR 15, DEX 23, CON 20 HP: 67 AC: 29 (6dex, 9natural, 4armor), Touch 16, FF 23. (+4 shield) Speed: 40’, Fly 90’ (Good) Saves: Fortitude +7, Reflex +8, Will +7. Skills: Concentration +16. Attacks: Greatsword +6 (2d6+3/19-20) or Bow +10 (1d8/x3) or ranged touch +9. Conditionals - If Asran’s force screen drops, tap another tattoo if safe to do so (won’t get him an AoO from Therador or Yaurl). - If Raskos has mirror image up, have Senorda drop it with a wand MM volley before anyone else engages him. - If Asran is grappled by Therador, he’ll be relying on Senorda to get him out. She’ll use her second grasp instead of scorching ray (or in addition to it if she fired the ray before the grapple). Asran himself will simply try to escape. - If anyone is blinded, other members of the group (especially Arynat and the Lantern Archon, who are sticking with Senorda and Asran respectively) can be their eyes. - If Senorda takes an MM shot and doesn’t have shield up, she should immediately put it up. - If Raskos has shield up, don’t bother shooting him with MMs. Senorda can flank with Asran in melee using her greatsword if shes out of spells to use on him. And that’s what I’ve got. Theres too many factors involved in this fight – writing tactics alone is just too tough, much less forseeing an outcome. Anyone could win, so it will be interesting to see who does I suppose. Anyway, thanks for running the fight, good luck with it! Zevox |

| lonewolf02-12-08, 10:38 AM | Gakhnalak vs Darian Big warrior vs Psion and meatshield ... very one sided :uh-huh: cant argue with such rolls... :surrender EDIT: With Xander out of the picture the Dispels were kinda pointless, but I should have noted that in the tactics. It just wasnt an option I was thinking of... |
| Erithmu02-12-08, 10:43 AM | Full rewards posted Crits are never expected I'm surprised you didn't use the EM as MI dispel option ... target 5 things and take them out. If there are 6 as was the case drop a 3pp to clear the air then full blast |
| Hirumajoe02-12-08, 11:20 AM | the maps arent showing it -but from the roller i see you had elrick 5 foot after the invisibility - the giant managed a litsten check but not good enoug h to autopinpoint and you didnt roll it -correct me if iam wrong but in this situation doesnt the giant need a mvoe action to locate elricks direction then 5 foot to move there and then possibly single attack? At that point, he was directly overhead (i.e. altitude of 5'), with 15' reach and scent. He pinpointed as a free action with scent. Sorry about the maps, I didn't check it after posting and apparently I used Notepad rather than Word pad, which always messes up the line wraps. Should be fixed now and be fairly obvious. |
| TelinArtho02-12-08, 01:48 PM | Eland (CrazyArtificer) vs Mekhoar (tunagolem) is up. Don't have the time to do the other fight right now - but I'll see if I can fit it in later tonight. @Sjiggie/Salrantol - I don't have an issue with the improv of adding either touchsight or synesthete - but it does interact with the rest of your tactics (mainly by reducing the number of PP you have remainng). |
| MindWandererB02-12-08, 01:58 PM | Gakhnalak vs Darian Big warrior vs Psion and meatshield ... very one sided Crits are never expectedNo kidding--that one 3x crit turned a fight I thought I had fairly poor chances to win into a much closer race--and the two dispels to accomplish what one EM could do better sealed the deal. I really only tried Mirror Image in hopes that lonewolf would do what he did in our last fight, which was not notice Mirror Image and go for Ego Whip. I guess it sort of worked out that way.... |
| lonewolf02-12-08, 02:05 PM | I completely forgot that I could eliminate those mirror images with energy missiles. :embarrass Well, at least I am pretty sure that it wouldnt have made any difference... |
| lonewolf02-12-08, 02:08 PM | crap. I need most likely a single diceroll from the roller to finish Istima vs Valen and now the roller goes down. *sigh* |
| Erithmu02-12-08, 02:16 PM | crap. I need most likely a single diceroll from the roller to finish Istima vs Valen and now the roller goes down. *sigh* Roll it in IC and link the one roll (if it works out that way) |
| lonewolf02-12-08, 02:29 PM | Valen Sky vs Kracknol vs Istima Telarc is up. Rewards will come a bit later today. |
| Hirumajoe02-12-08, 02:45 PM | I suppose if the opponent's first move is directly in your direction, not much you can do about it. :) Thanks for the run. However, why didn't Valen move to a distance of 80' with hustle (and haste since I asked for it on the attack on Ishtyar - although the haste wasn't necessary in this particular position) on his one and only shot? I thought I asked to used hustle (5pp) to get into position if necessary? (If he was at a distance of 80', Nole wouldn't be able to see because of the sighted 40' maximum distance). Otherwise, not much I can say about the fight. |
| lonewolf02-12-08, 02:59 PM | I read your tactic that you only wanted to use hustle to ensure beeing able to full attack not to get to exactly 80ft distance. Because if you wanted to do that you would have had to use hustle on every single attack... |
| Salrantol02-12-08, 03:01 PM | @Sjiggie/Salrantol - I don't have an issue with the improv of adding either touchsight or synesthete - but it does interact with the rest of your tactics (mainly by reducing the number of PP you have remainng).Except that Felice still has plenty of PP for everything requested in the tactics, even if she uses Touchsight. |
| Hirumajoe02-12-08, 03:02 PM | I read your tactic that you only wanted to use hustle to ensure beeing able to full attack not to get to exactly 80ft distance. Because if you wanted to do that you would have had to use hustle on every single attack... Ah gotcha. No it was there because Istima has a 120' move action on Isthyar. I figured I wouldn't be able to get anywhere close to 80' with him randomly flying around looking for me. I figured with a 90' move beforehand, I'd have a much better chance of getting some shots off. After the pegasus was down, then I'd have a much easier time keeping some form of distance, even if not 80' because of Istima's 30' move speed. (Hence the get into position clause - which would be meaningless for the full attack part since you need the move action after the full attack, not before) Edit: Given that Valen is sniping, and thus using the move action to hide afterwards as opposed to actually move squares, at the very least he should have 5' step towards an 80' distance before firing, if not a full hasted hustle, no? |
| Zevox02-12-08, 03:28 PM | (If he was at a distance of 80', Nole wouldn't be able to see because of the sighted 40' maximum distance). Except that Istima shared his True Seeing power with him, which grants vision out to 120'. Didn't notice anything wrong with the fight when I looked over it lonewolf. Thanks for the run. I'm rather surprised Istima managed to win it so quickly - I figured Valen would be using some vigor to sustain more hits, or would get luckier with hiding. But this sure works for me :) . Zevox |
| lonewolf02-12-08, 03:34 PM | Edit: Given that Valen is sniping, and thus using the move action to hide afterwards as opposed to actually move squares, at the very least he should have 5' step towards an 80' distance before firing, if not a full hasted hustle, no? I wanted Valen to shoot and then move away and hide simultaneously. If he hadnt killed the pegasus with the one shot, staying on that position would have been fatal. But he never got the chance to move after the attack... |
| Hirumajoe02-12-08, 03:39 PM | Except that Istima shared his True Seeing power with him, which grants vision out to 120'. Didn't notice anything wrong with the fight when I looked over it lonewolf. Thanks for the run. I'm rather surprised Istima managed to win it so quickly - I figured Valen would be using some vigor to sustain more hits, or would get luckier with hiding. But this sure works for me :) . Zevox Oh, true seeing grants the ability to see to the recipient if they didn't have that ability before? I didn't know that. Useful to know if I ever metamorphosis into an Ooze or something blind and actually grab that power. Edit: So wait, does True Seeing negate the blindness spell then? (Or at least out to 120'?) But yeah, mechanically, I don't see anything wrong with the fight. I'm not sure how to have made my tactics clearer on the part about using Hustle to "get into position" to shoot. Any suggestions for future phrasing? Also, knowing that Kracknol had surrendered would have been handy. I must have missed that post somewhere. |
| McJarvis02-12-08, 03:45 PM | Oh, true seeing grants the ability to see to the recipient if they didn't have that ability before? I didn't know that.. I didn't think it did... It does not negate concealment, including that caused by fog and the like. True seeing does not help the viewer see through mundane disguises, spot creatures who are simply hiding, or notice secret doors hidden by mundane means. So if you didn't have eyes to make the spot check to see someone "simply hiding" before- true seeing can't help you achieve that. It can't help negate the concealment from being blind or from mist or...etc, etc. I could be mis-reading the spell, but it seems to me that it augments existing vision, it does not grant vision. Of course- I haven't been following the fight, so I might be off-base on what you meant by this phrase :) All the spell lets you do is ignore illusions/displacement/blur/invis/polymorphed disguises & "focus" into the ethereal plane- nothing more. |
| MindWandererB02-12-08, 04:05 PM | Except that Istima shared his True Seeing power with him, which grants vision out to 120'. I'm not sure the power grants sight when a creature has none of its own. It lists a number of specific effects, none of which is to grant normal sight. The only thing that's close is the first sentence, "You confer on the subject the ability to see all things as they actually are," which can be taken either way ("You confer on the subject the ability to see" + "everything they see is as it actually is" vs. just the latter). |
| Hirumajoe02-12-08, 04:54 PM | Couple things on the Valen vs Istima fight: 1) Valen needs to make a save vs Massive damage on the first Energy Bolt since it did over 50 damage. He in principle fails it on a natural 1. May make a difference for PP expenditures for both sides. 2)Realized Nole still wouldn't be able to see Valen beyond 40' with True Sight because of Cerebral blind - True Sight would be providing the ability to see Valen, and since its a Divination spell, its not allowed to report information back about him. 3) On the other hand, the Psicrystal had Synestate up - which *does* let it see, explicitly. If you are feeling light by absorbing ambient light onto your skin, you have your normal visual abilities (except for darkvision), even if your eyes are closed or you are blinded. If your eyes are working normally, you gain a +4 circumstance bonus on all Spot and Search checks. While feeling light, you are immune to gaze attacks. Since a psicrystal doesn't have eyes, but senses "telepathically", does Synestate simply give it normal visual abilities (allowing it to see beyond 40' but without darkvision or low-light vision) and not the +4 to spot/listen checks? Since it doesn't actually use light or eyes at all to sense? |
| MindWandererB02-12-08, 04:58 PM | 3) On the other hand, the Psicrystal had Synestate up - which *does* let it see, explicitly. Since a psicrystal doesn't have eyes, but senses "telepathically", does Synestate simply give it normal visual abilities (allowing it to see beyond 40' but without darkvision or low-light vision) and not the +4 to spot/listen checks? Since it doesn't actually use light or eyes at all to sense?I wouldn't think so. It grants your normal visual abilities, i.e. the visual abilities which are normal for you. |
| Hirumajoe02-12-08, 05:01 PM | So a naturally blind creature, like a Grimlock, which has 40' Blindsight (a ex power alot like "sighted" of the psicrystal), wouldn't be able to see beyond 40' with Synestate, because it'd still just have 40' blindsight? And would still be completely blind if its scent and hearing were negated? Edit: Just to be clear, you're saying Synestate would should grant +4 to spot and listen within 40' only and not allow it to see beyond 40' for the Psicrystal case? |
| lonewolf02-12-08, 05:16 PM | save vs massive damage didnt change anything and rewards are up now. |

You should really only do it when the character has no reasonable chance without some very creative improvization, and in this case there's a very simple way out. On the other hand, it's generally best to let a pitlord know if, in general, improvizations with a few PP or a minor item are acceptable. I think that a 25-gp item to turn an auto-loss into a fair fight is well within the bounds of acceptability, especially at the ECL in question. |
| Zevox02-13-08, 12:02 AM | Re: True Seeing - Well, the way I read it, since it grants the ability to see through darkness/illusions/etc and has a range of 120', it shouldn't matter what the normal vision of the recipient was. But I suppose I could be reading something into that which isn't there. Oh well, as long as its not changing the fight, I suppose its not that important for now. Zevox |
| CrazyArtificer02-13-08, 08:19 AM | Eland (CrazyArtificer) vs Mekhoar (tunagolem) is up. Thanks for the run Telin. I didn't expect to win this one.. good for Eland! |
| Stormwind02-13-08, 08:25 AM | @Telin: Just a small thing, could you add in Varjo's perform free activity to the rewards for her fight [Free activity: Perform (171gp)] .... thanks |
| TelinArtho02-13-08, 10:45 AM | It seems I have come down with either a cold or the flu in connection with my wife's flu. As such - I wouldn't expect to have the time to run the last fight (between my wife and I - we still need to care for our 3 children in our bad states...). If someone could take up the Vivi vs Altair fight - that would help a lot. For tunagolem's comments (sent via PM - I'll post them when I get the chance) and Stormwinds - I will try to edit those in if I get the chance. EDIT: Thanks for pitlording. In the tactics I mentioned that Mekhoar should refocus and PShot only at the dwarf, not at the dog (PShot the dog only the first time). Although hide was impossible vs. the scent ability, the dog is still flatt footed if it doesn't pinpoint the target. The sling has a few flaws, but it gives a +1 for attacks. I'll probobly mix it with a shortbow next time. Did you calculate min dmg for the sling? It should apply before the SA and PShot dmg. About the speed issue - I'll have to manage with melee once in a while. Am I aloud to take stuff from home for the next fight? Thanks again, tunagolem If your intent was to not regain your focus against the dog - I certainly didn't read that out of your tactics - in fact it is the line directly under the "While dog is alive" subset. I mentioned to you that the algorithm probably wasn't the best method for tactics writing - and this is certainly the case. I did calculate minimum damage for the sling - 1d2-1+2d6, as far as I can tell, is the correct way to handle it. [1d2-1,1]+2d6 is not supported by the rules so far as I can tell. Yes you are allowed to take items from your at home section. You are not allowed to purchase new items until your 3FC is complete. |
| TelinArtho02-13-08, 11:01 AM | @stormwind - I edited in the free activity info. |
| whitebaron02-13-08, 12:03 PM | about sneak attack, psionic shot and min damage: i believe the wording of those to be slighlty different, but the result should be the same: all added up, as it is only one attack, and only after that the min-damage rule applies. after all, it's only one attack... |

I mentioned to you that the algorithm probably wasn't the best method for tactics writing - and this is certainly the case. Actually, if I read his tactics and I remember correctly how programming works it is out of the while dog is alive subset. -SA and PShot the dog. -While dog is alive --Regain stealth and SA again. --Try to avoid contact with Eland. -Regain focus and stealth. -Contenue moving clockwise arond the circumference. -When Eland is spoted through a tanglefoot bag at him. The while applies only to the underlined part (whitebaron could confirm this, as he is a programmer after all :) ) I do agree it's better to avoid writing tactics as algorythms.. although they may seem practical it's easier to put everything you want for a specific contingency under sblock tags.;) |
| whitebaron02-13-08, 01:14 PM | well, i'm a programmer and would have refused to use such a tactic - its less readable than most tactics i've ever seen (t10's 4pm-tactics specifically not included) on a side note, i would not consider this an algorithm - more like a decision tree, which are bound to have errors in interpretation since the representation here is not really something workable for such a tree. it's easy to miss the proper lines when one part stops. |

I'll leave you the proper classification, but I totally agree on the conclusion. |

Ugh. Would be slightly more understandable with the code tag. (Even then I used two spaces to make the indentation clearer.) SA and PShot the dog. While dog is alive Regain stealth and SA again. Try to avoid contact with Eland. Regain focus and stealth. Contenue moving clockwise arond the circumference. When Eland is spoted through a tanglefoot bag at him. But even then unless you were a programmer you might not understand that the indented block applies to the while check. I'd suggest avoiding writing tactics that way. |
