This thread is for questions, comments, and concerns solely regarding the pairings, quests, and campaigns for this week.
When you comment you should be nice. If you are not nice, well, there is not really much we can do except burn you in effigy, the patriot way.

This is a link to the rules here:

Vandelar (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6452290&postcount=300)

and

Heindal (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6204381&postcount=279)

Are ready for this week's matchup.

Can the oh mighty elders confirm that the spells have to be memorized for all week and thus showing it to the opponents as stated in the quickguide.

Or has this Extra requirement been removed in the new and updated Rules of Gladius.

Yes, you must show what you have prepared if you are a prepared caster. Anything not shown is considered used.

Which Campaigns are active? I know of Huan's because I am in there, although neither Sinnoch nor Sokai are set ready.

Baelin told me about a Quest he goes on with Nyte but I haven't heard about that.

Some Gladiators are set "Ready for Campaign". Which one? When?

Who's Arion Hunter the Verdant Lord? He's listed on Uther's Campaign.

When I check the titles, I read things like 5/6/7 or 7/6/5 or 6/7/5. Europeans write the day before the month, Asians the other way around, and Americans like they want. Please write a clear date: 6.July, or July 6 if you wish; Year is not necessary.

Please guys, I wanted to tell you that last week and the week before: it's already a lot of work and requires concentration to do the pairings. If I have to check such things myself the time and workload increases tremendously. Last wednesday: 4 hours pairings.

Thanks for understanding.

My apologizes for any lack of clarity in the titles for my characters. For both Terminus Est (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6576080) and Nicolae (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6594927), 7/6 means July 6th. I shall change the titles to something less ambigous after my fights for the week are done.

Sokai is not set ready because the miniquest he was on is not finished.

As a way to speed things up for the pairings and then for the pitlords perhaps
we can add the characters we want to participate for the week with a link to their sheet..

Uthers campaing is supposed to start today, so that is what Gareth is for, We had also talked about Shadow going on another quest but he is pretty busy now so shadow can just be ready for a monster fight unless pairing are odd, then give him a gladiator

Zerone gets an extra credit for his story in Sokai Calanis vs. Gatti's Grand Piano where Sokai defeats an animated construct. Cerebus deserves one too for his nice Inihe Rotblume vs Hagrid II story. Let's don't forget Luni's story of how Fasin kicked THE PALE-RIDERS BUTT!!!. Yes he did. And finally, I'll give myself ahem a credit for the happening in Village of the Dead.

I am glad to see the second Campaign going and even glader to have a character in there. The Arbiter War goes into week 1. Huan! We will all enjoy it!

And we have a birthday child today!! Pittbull goes into Round 29 of his life, and we all hope many more will follow, especially in the CoCo. Peter, I wish you all the best! Your participation and passion in the CoCo is "vorbildlich" :) Halt die Ohren steif und feier schön!!!!

- I've posted above some things. Please read it if you haven't already.
- Then, what about the other Campaigns? When are they going to start?

Monster fights:
Felice vs (20 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=113622)) Carrion Crawler
Asmeroviel vs (1d3 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=113652)) (40 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=113650)) 2 Gargoyles
Uhmentarymster vs (73 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=113656)) Green Slaad
MerMan vs (73 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=113658)) Green Slaad
Anna vs (1d3 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=113668))(82 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=113667)) 2 Elder Xorns

@Jindl: If you want to cancel the monster fight, tell me. It's pretty pointless in Anna's case, and you'd just level away again before the lower PCs can get you.
Zerone

07-06-05, 06:47 PM
Asmeroviel vs (1d3) (40) 3 Gargoyles

The roll and under the 'Characters' thread it says 2 but here it says 3, just wondering how many it is? ;)

Also, if it's ok with the Pitlords and Sokai's Campaignlord, I'd like to rework the Sokai vs. Gatti's Grand Piano fight as it is incorrect? If it is ok, Sindorin can send me some new tactics and I'll finish it this week. I should have noticed the problem, my fault... :smirk: sorry to everyone involved.

Some questions regarding the rules - apologies if they've been asked before and I couldn't find them:

- Do characters with multiple caster classes take the 1/3 limit on each of their classes, or are those class spell levels combined to determine the number of levels that can be cast in the arena? If the latter, can the character cast spells from any class up to the limit, or is the character limited by class spell levels?

Example: Pauper is a Bard2/Wizard1 with both Cha and Int higher than 12. He can cast one first level bard spell per day, and two first level wizard spells per day. In the arena, can he cast one spell level regardless of class (three total spell levels divided by three), one level of bard spells and one leve of wizard spells (1/3 of each class, minimum one level), or can he not cast anything higher than a cantrip (because he doesn't have at least three spell levels in either class)?

- When casting summon monster, is the character limited to the monster options listed in the Player's Handbook? If not, what is the criteria for determining what is a legal monster to summon via any particular summon monster spell? Is a caster limited by alignment when choosing what monsters to summon? If a monster option is templated, can the caster choose to summon a similar creature with a different, CR-equivalent template?

Example: Pauper wishes to cast summon monster I. Pauper is Lawful Good. Is Pauper limited to summoning only lawful good creatures from the PH list? Can he summon any lawful or good creature? Can he summon any creature? Would the result be different if Pauper were a divine caster? Could Pauper elect to summon a celestial raven instead of the listed fiendish raven, as the celestial and fiendish templates are CR-equivalent?

- Can a character surrender in the arena? Other than automatically suffering a loss in the fight in question, are there any other effects of surrender?

As you might guess, the answers to some of these questions will affect which tactics I submit for the upcoming fight, so any reasonably definitive answer would be appreciated ASAP. ("A good plan right now is better than the perfect plan next week." - George S. Patton)

Seperately.

Yes. Only those in the list.
Can a character surrender in the arena? Other than automatically suffering a loss in the fight in question, are there any other effects of surrender?
You can surrender. No ill side-effects.
The roll and under the 'Characters' thread it says 2 but here it says 3, just wondering how many it is?
Let's click on the roll, shall we ;) It's 2.

Being a wizard, he can summon any creature on the SM1 list.

Would the result be different if Pauper were a divine caster?

If Pauper were a cleric he could only summon non-chaotic, non-evil creatures, since as a lawful good cleric he is forbidden from casting chaotic or evil spells.

@Caterane, Sindorin, Sunwolf, King Uther, Xanadu, Zerone
Well, it seems only Sunwolf and Caterane set their characters as completely ready. Now, since a campaign is very big deal with many risks, the last thing I want to do is rush any of you or send you in unprepared (last I checked Hell is not a friendly place ;) ). King Uther did not set Sinnoch to 'ready' yet, Xanadu's Necavi has a 'sort of' tagged on , and Sindorin's Sokai is working out his followers.... Ok, so here is what I suggest: I will give a 1 day grace for all this, so Xanadu can resolve the 'sort of' thing, King Uther can set Sinnoch ready properly, and Sokai can manage his followers all right....and we start tomorrow. How's that for everyone?

Zerone, if you are strapped for time between now and tomorrow, just send me Sindorin's new tactics I can rework the miniquest post-haste. Otherwise, I would greatly appreciate it if you could get it done rather quickly (my apologies for forcing the rush job). I did enjoy your story, though. :)

~Random: I very much enjoyed Caterane's story too, and second the credit award. Also, I very much appreciated the concrete xp/gp breakdown (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6618814), so this will be a big help to myself and the other pit/quest/campaignlords handling PC of differing levels.

@Everyone (especially my players)

A bonus credit should be given to the first three pitlords that post their fights. Maybe that'd be a small incentive to get the fights in sooner.

@ Caterane -

I intended to start my campaign today, and having the intro set up completely by tomorrow. I haven't checked to see if everyone is set as ready. Arion the Verdant Lord is Megrim's character, whom I am guessing did not PM you about himself.

@Huan

Sinnoch is ready, but just in case I will look over him and prepare accordingly.

@All gladiators in campaign

After the introduction is done, we start roleplay. You have about 12-13 hours to edit from this post. Be prepared.

@Jh316 - Well I sent Astrid my suggestions for tactics as well as my ideas on the team fight situation. I THINK I did a good job explaining the situation... If she has any questions, comments, or concerns she is completely free to drop me a PM. If run correctly I believe that we have a solid chance for victory in this fight, just hope Astrid's as up to it as her character is. ;)

P.S. I did use some DnDish tecnical terms that she may or may not understand if she's new, Astrid if you're out there reading this then please ask me any questions that you have!

@Jindl:

Just a question:

The xorns have earth-glide and won't come out, being afraid of your swords. Since Anna is able to fight subterran, there is a still a way how to run the fight. But here are my questions:

• Does tremorsense work against Anna? I think, no!

• Being subterran Anna can make touch-attacks easily, but what's about the Xorns.

• Does anybody know, how Xorns can do damage against Anna?

Neither tremorsense nor blindsense/blindsight will work against an incorporeal.

• Being subterran Anna can make touch-attacks easily, but what's about the Xorns.
They can attack while burrowing. For the effects of their attacks, see the next answer...

• Does anybody know, how Xorns can do damage against Anna?
They literally cannot harm her, unless they have some buffs. If they are supposed to have some equip, then let me know what it is prior to tactics (and for heavens sake, don't outfit them especially for Anna, its supposed to be generic equipment, if they get any at all).

Note that the 10 round rule will likely come into play in this fight!

I was always under the assumption (and i quickly tried looking it up but can't find it right now) that a creature with DR X/xxx is considered to have it's attacks count as magical attacks for the purpose of damage reduction. So it could attack Anna but would get a 50/50 miss chance.

Problem...anna (as a ghost) cannot see through solid objects. Thus if she has any way of finding the xorn, i'm afriad she would also suffer a 50/50 miss chance if she can pinpoint the square it's in.

I could be off here, but i will look more diligently later.

-ToK

**edit
MM, page 310: Incorporeal
An incorporeal creature can enter or pass through solid objects but must remain adjacent to the object's exterior, and so cannot pass entirely through an object whose space is larger than its own. It can sense the presence of creatures or objects within a square adjacent to its current location, but enemies have total concealment (50 % miss chance) from an incorporeal creater that is inside an object. In order to see farther from the object it is in and attck normally, the incorporeal creature must emerge. An incorporeal creature inside an object has total cover, but when it attacks a creature outside the object it only has cover, so a creatrure outside with a readied action could strike at it as it attcks.

SO the way i read it, Anna cannot attack the xorn while it is completely submerged unless it's "skimming" the surface where anna can attack it, but she would still suffer a 50/50 miss chance. And Anna cannot give chase to the xorn if it "dives deep" into the soil.

But then the 10 round rule will prolly kill it. Unless it has a ghost-touch item or something, i'm afraid that in the long run, no matter how long or boring a fight it might be, Anna is 99% assured victory.

Sokai Calanis vs. Gatti's Grand Piano (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6618293&postcount=82) is revamped. The xp and gp rewards have changed due to Sokai needing to bring Seylah, but I wish for the Pitlords to figure out the xp/gp penalty for bringing her.

Also, all the 'er' problems in the story have been changed to 'is' corrections... I think Sindorin will get this... Sorry bud! :D

@Everyone:

I have a question.
My character Rayos is fighting Zubair this week.
First thing:
He has a wand of entangle listed for 750 gp.
A ranger wand of entangle is 1500 gp.
Second thing:
He has a wand of cure light wounds listed.
I'm not sure he can use one.
The description of Use wand from the Use magical device description is as follows.

Use a Wand: Normally, to use a wand, you must have the wand’s spell on your class spell list. This use of the skill allows you to use a wand as if you had a particular spell on your class spell list. This use of the skill also applies to other spell trigger magic items, such as staffs.

The bolded part says that you need to have the wand's spell on your class list which he doesn't.
Also, he really doesn't have entangle on his class list either.
He only has 1 level of ranger, so is unable to cast spells.

So my main concern:
Has Zubair been using his wands illegally?

Here's what you are looking for:

Some monsters are vulnerable to magic weapons. Any weapon with at least a +1 magical enhancement bonus on attack and damage rolls overcomes the damage reduction of these monsters. Such creatures’ natural weapons (but not their attacks with weapons) are treated as magic weapons for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.
Note: Bold and Underline added for emphasis only, and were not originally in SRD.

The Xorn have DR 5/Bludgeoning, so at this point they will not be damaging Anna.

@Everyone:

The bolded part says that you need to have the wand's spell on your class list which he doesn't.
Also, he really doesn't have entangle on his class list either.
He only has 1 level of ranger, so is unable to cast spells.

So my main concern:
Has Zubair been using his wands illegally?

From SRD:

Spell Trigger
Spell trigger activation is similar to spell completion, but it’s even simpler. No gestures or spell finishing is needed, just a special knowledge of spellcasting that an appropriate character would know, and a single word that must be spoken. Anyone with a spell on his or her spell list knows how to use a spell trigger item that stores that spell. (This is the case even for a character who can’t actually cast spells, such as a 3rd-level paladin.) The user must still determine what spell is stored in the item before she can activate it. Activating a spell trigger item is a standard action and does not provoke attacks of opportunity.

A ranger has CLW on his list as a 2nd level spell. From the above passage from the SRD someone who has a spell on their class list can use a wand of that spell even if they can't cast spells yet.

Unless it is a class only spell wands are considered to be made by clerics, druids, or wizards.

Sorry bud! :D

EDIT: Foudn the link (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6485119).

First of all, he is not set ready. Infact, he is even listed as "Incomplete".

Then, Megrim has not enough credits for this character, and I haven't included the credit cost for the Campaign in there.

There are also mistakes in this sheet. For example, the stats for old age are wrong: he calculated the mental stats cumulatively (ok) but didn't do that with the physical stats. That sheets needs a checkup.

And finally, I haven't seen Megrim around in some time.

EDIT 2: Malither has not enough credits for the Campaign! And I have not included Aron in the Campaign.

That's the fourth time this week. I'm not here to calculate the Rewards for everyone. Please do it yourself. We even have a Calculator for that, and it's clearly written in the Rules of Gladius.
But Lord Pitlords! You are the adopting Father of the CoCo! If we cannot turn to you for aid, then, I am afraid, all is lost. :tissue:

As for the Calculator, my browser will not open it and I have no intentions of making it do so.

Since it is not stated plainly within the Rules of Gladius thread, I'll assume that he receives a 25% xp/gp penalty.

Cat, you've done a great deal so far and we know that many more things are in the works. For that you have my thanks, Yes it is frustrating when you are asked to do piddly things like calculate the xp/gp for a fight, but the problem lies within The Rules of Gladius: Cohorts and Allies section. In my opinion it is not 'clearly written in the Rules of Gladius'. It needs some clarifying, especially the part under How many cohorts/allies can I have?. This section is confusing, and since everyone is required to use it, it is an important area for new and old alike. Some minor revision and it could be a very simple area to navigate/understand. As it is now, it is confusing and awkward. I can offer some suggestions if you like, but do not wish to step on anyone's toes.

07-07-05, 04:26 PM
It is pretty simple - since Seylah takes all of Sokai's ally allottment, her penalty of his exp and gp is 25%. If she were of lower level, she would suck less rewards. I already worked it in - I multiplied everything by .75.
Zerone

07-07-05, 04:42 PM
Yes it is simple, but to get to the point of understanding is not. Once you have the knowledge, anything is simple. I was just pointing out that the section on cohorts/allies and their xp/gp penalty is an important section that could be reworked to make it much easier to understand, especially for those who are new to the CoCo. ;)

@Zoro: Ok, let's do it together ...with the FAQ only who is imo very clear. Peter, please pay attention too :)

How to calculate XP - A Guide for CoCo Newbies: :P
Step 1: The FAQ: Pitlording shows us that a Level 7 PC that defeats a CR 5 something gets 1050 XP. The table below says he also gets 1600 gold.

Step 2: Now the ally reward modification.
- Sokai is ECL 7. His maximum CA he can bring in is his ECL-2 which is (7-2) = 5.
- Selma Hayek is ECL 5. She is the only ally so the CA = 5.
That means Sokai has used his max.allowed potential.

Let's look at the FAQ: Cohorts and Allies (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6466763), the section written in bold letters:

You recieve (CA/maxCA*25) % less xp and gp for winning a fight. Similarly you receive opponents opponents (CA/maxCA*25) % more xp and gp for defeating a gladiator that uses allies.

Ah, a formula. (CA/maxCA *25) in percent.
CA of Selma is 5
Sokai's max CA is 5
5/5 = 1
1*25 = 25
in per cent: 25%

That's what Sokai gets deducted from his rewards for a total of:
Sokai wins and receives 788xp/1200gp (1050xp/1600gp -25%)

On a sidenote, sorry if I am a bit blunt these days. I am working non-stop on papers for months now, and everytime I finish one, two new pop up. I've just finished a 60-pages expertise for some guys plus presented it on wednesday, hoping for some free time after that but I just got two new ones today :raincloud

I have put aside some time for CoCo things which I use to keep everything running, writing tactics, and perhaps run a fight or two. The Quest and the Campaign are my "leisure" time. I don't calculate extra things like calculating rewards for you, explaining coco rules, answering questions on the tavern, etc into that time and I'm really very very grateful - I'm serious here! - for every post that answers these questions for me. If you see me marked as online, that's only because I leave the window open most of the time.

Megrim Lord's Campaign debt has been payed by King Uther.

King Uther is doing everyone a huge favor by paying credits for their characters. And not only for his own Campaign; last week he payed for someone who went on sindorin's Campaign. I can't underline enough how great a gesture that is but I also want to ask you to pay your credits yourself.

It shouldn't be too hard to gather 5°. Moderate 2 fights a week, and write a short story for one of them; request a monster fight if you're really short on time, and don't post late.

PS: This will probably be the last week with Monsterfights until I have figured out a better way how to handle them. They will be replaced by All vs All fights. Monsterfights will come back, of course.

After the introduction is done, we start roleplay. You have about 12-13 hours to edit from this post. Be prepared.

I didn't PM because I wasn't done, but it looks like I'll have to start now and stat out my summons later, if that's alright. My bad for not paying attention to the date. I also apologize to King Uther for being a leech, it wasn't my intention. Also, Cat, sorry but I really don't have time right now to do the randomly paired quest thing. An impressive upset, due to first-round LoS in Ariel vs. Shan (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=6637296&posted=1#post6637296).

Grapplers. First Round LoS :weep: . Ariel needs a strategy to defeat them.

Notes: In round 3, Shan doubled moved. That means a -20 on his hide check. Though, I don't know if it would make any difference.

Also, in round 7, when Ariel escapes the grapple, I don't think moving ould of made any sense. Moving proves an AoO, and ther is no way I could of moved out of his move + start grapple range. I would of preferred the drawing of my Scythe. I know it wasn't specified in my tactics, but I wasn't anticipating him to grapple me.
Salrantol

@Luni:
Re: Round 3
Fixed, but it didn't matter. Skeleton A would've followed him and there still would have been a successful withdraw route to allow him to base Ariel.

Re: Round 7
I looked at your options and saw either a 5' step away (and misc. move action) or move away. If you 5' step away, he 5' steps after you and nothing happens. If you move away (and make it), he has to provoke 2 AoOs from your skeletons to get back to you. I saw this as your best bet for success here, seeing as either way, you're not getting away from a grapple. Besides, you can't use a scythe in a grapple anyway (if you'd've had a light weapon, I'd've been using it).

Yup. School of hard-knocks graduate here. I often read about gladiators picking at every little straw in fights like they were the end of the world.

How about losing a fight against an opponent, who just happened to "guess" which square you are in (never heard you, nor saw you), and charged through an obscuring mist (you, the part about where your movement is reduced to half and should end the charge?? nope, it didn't) and attacked me, critted (you know without any miss chance or concealment) and i died. Cuz stealth was annoying and the pitlord didn't wanna prolong the agony i'm thinking. And there wasn't a damn thing i could do about it. LOL, ah the good old days.

Nowadays, gladiators have it much easier. Any and every little mistake and sometimes the outcome of a fight can change several times between saturday and tuesday. Sometimes i think it has to do with the waxing and waning of the moon, but who knows really.

Anyhow bed time, gotta run....can't finish post...i'll finish it later when i come back from our trip.

I am currently running a fight with a gladiator who has bombs (renaissance weapons), but has them rigged with delay fuses (not listed in the rules) which would make them more like dynamite (modern weapon). What is the ruling of this?

Well, I'd like to be able to say that I hate to disagree with another Elder (In this case, Jindl), but if I said that, I'd be lying! So, without further ado, I present to you the truth behind weapons!

To address your question about what is and is not allowed, we will start here:

Renaissance Weapons: Sadly, nothing from the book, but keep reading.
Note: Forget the smoke bomb and instead just buy the smokestick; you save 50gp, it weighs 1/2 as much and it is faster to use.

Asian Weapons: Sadly, no Blow Gun or Kusari-Gama, but YES, you can have a Wakizashi and a Katana!

Modern Weapons: What were you thinking? Keep reading!

Futuristic Weapons: Do you really want these when magic is so much better? Keep reading.

Now, here is where everything starts to get exciting! One of the benefits of Living Gladius is that we can have fun with flavor text and ROLE PLAYING!

I'll start simple and keep going until I get bored or too sleepy....

Japanese Weapon ... D&D Equivalent
Fuetsu ............ Handaxe
Masakar ........... Battleaxe
Ono ............... Greataxe
Bisento ........... Glaive
Bo ................ Quarterstaff
Nage-Yari ......... Short Spear
Tetsubo ........... Greatclub
Yari .............. Spear
Wakizashi ......... [Ma]Shortsword
Tachi ............. Longsword
Katana ............ [Ma]Bastard Sword
Nodachi ........... Greatsword

:teach: Now for todays lesson: One of the main things to remember about Japanese swords is that, in general, most of the swords have one edge, as compared to the majority of the swords we see in use in D&D. So, even though the DMG tells us that the Katana is basically a Masterwork Bastard Sword (and I tend to agree), the Bastard Sword is actually double-edged with a roughly 48"-54" blade, whereas the Katana is single-edged with a roughly 36"-38" blade. The reason for the Katana always being considered Masterwork is due to the Japanese 'metal-folding' technique that was used and nigh-perfected. It made for a more solid edge and at the same time allow for flexibility.

Warning! This is a bit of historical information that is, to the best of my knowledge and research, accurate. I have discussed this with a number of others who have similar interests, to include a collector of antique Katanas, and I have found nothing to dispute this; everything I have studied on this subject has either mentioned it or did not specify. What follows may be graphic for some, depending on how many movies you have watched....

As an added bonus, before a Katana was going to be given to a Samurai, it was actually tested; this testing process was often done on subjects from the prison populace. Each sword had to pass 3 specific cuts, otherwise it was useles in battle: diagonal cut from collar bone to hip, horizontal cut across the waist and then through the neck. (Note: I have to double check, but I am pretty sure that is what the 3 cuts were.) All cuts had to be complete. For the prisoners, it was considered a point of honor to die in such a manner, for such a noble cause; it may have been a form of redemption for them, since they were in prison and had brought shame to their family, at least they could have an honorable death.

This is a very simple list. I could have made the list much longer, included many more weapons, expanded to other cultures and time periods. The point I am trying to make is that weapons are similar and this need to be acknowledged. If you have the books, read what the tables say and go from there. It tells you that a Katana is a Masterwork Bastard Sword. So, go buy a Masterwork Bastard Sword and call it a Katana. Just put some notes and make sure things are identified.

Take a Human Fighter, make him Lawful Good or Lawful Neutral, go with TWF and for your bonus racial feat take Exotic WP - Bastard Sword. Buy a [Ma]Bastard Sword and a [Ma]Shortsword, throw some Light Armor on him and you are good to go. Declare that he is a Samurai and that is what we shall call him! If you call him Miyamoto Musashi, I will not forgive you!

Have some fun with everything. Use your imagination. Be creative. Call a longbow a gun! So long as the gun has the same range, does the same damage, has the same critical chance, fires one shot at a time and has a 'quiver' full of 'bullets' for you to use, it's all good.

I just wanted to make sure I got that little bit in there......

Ok, misunderstanding probably.

Mine wasn't ready either. Aren't you supposed to wait until the questlord sends you the quest outline for approval before saying that is ready to start?

I've worked up 1 encounter of the quest so far, and I'll finish the rest on Sunday, so Tellish can definately start this Wednesday (or earlier if he likes).

Kaigan here.
I've received Tactics from Gonbow, Luni, and McJarvis.
I'm running my fight tonight, so Rim-Soulfang if you want to send in tactics I would do so now. It won't really be fair for McJarvis if you don't send in any.

On another note:
I don't understand why people like to start out with either a scroll in one hand and a weapon in the other, or with two scrolls.
It may just be me, but I thought you need two hands to cast from a scroll. One to hold the scroll and one for the "hand movements".
Is this wrong? And are those gladiators just wasting a movement/round?

I'll try to give more detail next time, all the results are in the dice roller though.

The dice did not love you this time as you can see by your opponent scoring 2 criticals on the same round.

As for your other tanglefoot bag after you missed with the first one, if you had Missed again Sasha would have had an opportunity to leave unhindered and start sniping you as she had prepared to do so.

Also engaging in melee was listed as something you wished to do.

I'm sure next time the dice will be more fair to you, as they were the last time.

Best wishes

Hiya. A few things about the fight:

Correct me if I'm wrong... But when you have a spell of blur going, granting you concealment, you can attempt to hide no matter what, yes? That's why I used the dang thing in the first place, over a potion of invis :P I didn't see any spot checks by the hawk/Vandelar to see Terminus and then later the swarm to follow him.

Swarm Range: Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
The swarm cant go further than that, IIRC?

Familiar: If the familiar dies or is dismissed by the sorcerer, the sorcerer must attempt a DC 15 Fortitude saving throw. Failure means he loses 200 experience points per sorcerer level; success reduces the loss to one-half that amount. (Qouted from sorc text, wizards use the same, just replace sorcerer with wizard)
Now, he gets off on the resummoning, because it ressurects, but I think he still has to make the check. Familiars are supposed to be protected in battle for a reason.

The summon swarm range refers to the maximum range it can be cast.
Afterwards there is nothing on the spell which says it would affect it;
Just like the other summon monster spells.

As for a familiars dying you could say the same for gladiators dying in which they would lose xp but the nimbus protects both.

Gladiator losing experience is not a function of dying, but of how they come back. A familiar's controller losing experience is a function of the bond, however briefly being severed. They don't get the xp back if the familiar comes back to life and is rebonded... Not in normal campaigns anyways. If it is different here, that's fine, just another Cool Thing that the nimbus does ;)
Tellish_of_Ket

Nope, you were correct the first time Gonbow. The caster in question whom lost their familiar will need to make that DC 15 fort save and lose the xp from the death of his/her familiar.

I did read the fight and found it strange there were no hide/spot checks. Not sure what was planned, but no checks were made. But either way Rim will need to roll that fort save for the caster.

Other creatures have blindsense, a lesser ability that lets the creature notice things it cannot see, but without the precision of blindsight. The creature with blindsense usually does not need to make Spot or Listen checks to notice and locate creatures within range of its blindsense ability, provided that it has line of effect to that creature. Any opponent the creature cannot see has total concealment (50% miss chance) against the creature with blindsense, and the blindsensing creature still has the normal miss chance when attacking foes that have concealment. Visibility still affects the movement of a creature with blindsense. A creature with blindsense is still denied its Dexterity bonus to Armor Class against attacks from creatures it cannot see.Blindsense isn't quite as powerful as Blindsight so concealment miss chances still would apply.
Gonbow

07-11-05, 08:29 AM
Also, the bats only have it to 20'. Whenever Terminus actually gets to move they have to make another listen/spot check to find/follow him again. If he moves away beyond their blindsense range, they go after whoever is closest.... which given the range of the spell, is more likely to be the caster rather than Terminus. Of course, they have to make a spot/listen to find him too, but they have a better chance of hearing him than they do me ;)

As an aside Soulfang, sorry if it seems like I'm whining; my opponent had a very effective strategy, but I just want to make sure my character's core concept (stealth) is done correctly rules-wise, as it is my best shot. Thanks for Pitlording this fight.

Isn't the new arena design supposed to prevent the one-round kill? At least to a certain degree? If it is still possible to ride a horse into LOS in the first round(Draconis Regina's strategy listed as moving where she could see 3 of 4 boxes), then clearly it is not working.

Actually, swarm attacks ignore concealment and cover less than total. So the bats still auto-hit Terminus; while they can find him, anyways.

Guts vs. Brilf (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6664749&postcount=96) is posted.

*•. ZCouple of issues with this fight. When you are being grappled there is a list of actions that you can take and whether or not they require a grapple check. Unfortunately "Retrieve an Item" is not listed specifically but they have two that are close: "Draw a Light Weapon" or "Retrieve a Spell Component". Drawing a Light Weapon is a move action that requires an opposed grapple check to succeed, and Retrieving a Spell Component is a full round action that does not require an opposed grapple check.
I am unsure which of these could be used, if either of them even apply, so I'll need some help from someone more knowledgeable.

Also, Brilf needs to make a DC 20 Concentration check in order to successfully manifest a power while grappled.

Depending on how long it takes Brilf to pull out his stone, or if opposed grapple checks are required, it could change the outcome of the battle.

Edit:
Guts gets a Will Save against the transfer as well, against a DC of 14 (10 + power level + minimum ability bonus required to craft item). He has Resistance and Guidance available so his Will Save is +8...so he may only take half damage. Hostile Empathic Transfer = ouch.

Well, while grappling, you can:

Activate a Magic Item: You can activate a magic item, as long as the item doesn’t require a spell completion trigger. You don’t need to make a grapple check to activate the item.

However, this was from prior to the XPHB and I am not sure that Spell Completion Trigger and Power Completion Trigger are not interchangeable in this situation. Since Power Stones use the Power Completion Trigger, I would be leary of allowing it.

Also there is the issue of was it in his hand? If not, the SRD only covers the following actions in a grapple:

Activate a Magic Item, Attack Your Opponent, Cast a Spell, Damage Your Opponent, Draw a Light Weapon, Escape from Grapple, Move, Retrieve a Spell Component, Pin Your Opponent, Break Another’s Pin and Use Opponent’s Weapon.

I agree that Guts gets a will save (I even noted it in my tactics :) for the empathic transfer. DC 20 concentration check to manifest in grapple is correct.

One thing to note is that flying does not equal move silently so Brilf should be getting listen rolls as Guts closes. Once he notices that Guts is up in the air or on the ceiling which he did in round 9, at least, he should be moving to the dissapating touch/kama part of the tactics in round 10 and then draw empathic transfer stone in round 11. Then the empathic transfer stone drawing may have already happened by the time Guts attacked.

I would say that drawing a stone in a grapple is like a getting a spell component -- full round action.

I had it this way first, but then realized that Guts had Invis up... went back and changed it, then realized that you needed Listen checks, and then it was a tad messed up. I'll fix the rounds from the time he first takes flight, as you would have pinpointed him at that mement, and not a round later.

I'm with LL in that you need to make an opposed roll to retrieve an item during a grapple.

Same with power-completion. It's a no go.

Just a note about the Greg the Green Slaad fight. Slaad's have fast healing 5. So it would have regen'd 5 hp per round. Absolutely no effect on the outcome though, so no worries. Just thought i'd point that out.

@Zerone

One last thing, Brilf would do 1d6+3+4d6 (kama + dissolving weapon) in round 12 for 5d6+3 not 4d6+3 as you have listed. Your 4d6+3 = 4+3+3+2 is 12 what about the +3 for str => 15 ?

Would you roll the extra d6? 1 means that Guts needs to make a DC 20 autohypnosis roll to do his grapple check in round 12 (if he fails he can do the damage but lose a point to go to -1 -- then both need to stabilize using autohypnosis -- he may still win due to being less negative :) ) 2-6 he is unconscious before his attack in round 12.

I didn't use the Stunning Fist ability either. I'm looking it over now and have a question of my own:

Can you use a strike attack and a touch attack at the same time? or would that be two different attacks?

Since they are different types of attacks and each get a different AC to target, it is weird that they could be combined.

*•. ZStunning Fist can only be used with an Unarmed Strike according to the description. Monks special weapons, like the Kama, can be used to Flurry but the description doesn't say anything about special attacks like Stunning Fist (I think :P).

I have no idea how the Power Completion items being used in a grapple issue should be resolved, probably an Elder vote is required because it is rather unclear on how to go.

Brilf can't use stunning fist on a strike with his kama.

Psionic weapon, however, should have been applied on the kama strike (1st melee attack) which makes it 7d6+3 (1d6+3kama +4d6dissolving weapon +2d6psionic weapon) damage not 4d6+3.

You must declare that you are using this feat before you make your attack roll (thus, a failed attack roll ruins the attempt). Stunning Fist forces a foe damaged by your unarmed attack to make a Fortitude saving throw (DC 10 + ½ your character level + your Wis modifier), in addition to dealing damage normally. A defender who fails this saving throw is stunned for 1 round (until just before your next action). A stunned character can’t act, loses any Dexterity bonus to AC, and takes a -2 penalty to AC.

Stunning fist needs to do unarmed attack damage -- so not on the touch attack delivering spell damage.

It makes powerstones for healing a bad strategy against a grappler. Vigor stones would need to be used as prebuffs in that situation.

@Zerone & Sunwolf

Doh, one other thing that may affect the outcome... Guts should be attempting to Pin and then deal damage to Brilf each round (which I wanted to do in order to avoid Stunning Fist). So each round, besides the first round where the grapple is initiated, Guts will need to make an opposed grapple check to Pin and another opposed grapple check to deal damage. If Brilf is Pinned he can either make an opposed grapple check (as an attack, so multiple attacks can equal multiple escape attempts) to escape the Pin (but not the grapple) or an Escape Artist check (as a standard action) to do the same.

Sorry about the confusion, grappling can be a headache.
Edit: Scratch all of the above :P. Pinning requires an attack to perform so Guts could not deal damage once he had pinned Brilf because he only has one attack per round.

Notes: ToK: If you want to cast Alter Self, and share it with your familiar, you got to tell me what you want to change it into. It can't get Troglodyte form, as it is not a humanoid.

A master and his familiar can share spells even if the spells normally do not affect creatures of the familiar’s type (magical beast).

Since Pale-Rider cannot use Alter Self to turn into a magical beast, then his alter self cannot affect a magical beast, except that it can affect his familiar when shared.

He should be able to turn his familiar into another magical beast though with the shared alter self spell. He is limited by hit dice. On looking myself, I didn't find much that was really apealling in small or smaller magical beasts 5 hitdice and under.

From the rules of the game here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rg/20040518a).

You can't use alter self to change anyone or anything other than yourself. If you have a familiar, mount, or other companion with the share spells ability, you can change both yourself and your familiar or companion. Your familiar or companion must be within 5 feet at the time of casting to receive the effect, and it stops affecting the familiar or companion if it moves farther than 5 feet away and will not affect the familiar or companion again even if it returns to you before the spell's duration expires. You choose a form for yourself and for your familiar or companion. The forms you choose don't have to be the same. In fact, in most cases, they cannot be the same because alter self allows the subject to assume a form of the same type as itself only (see the next point).

# The form you assume must be a creature of the same type as yours.

You can't use this spell to assume the form of an object, or of any kind of creature type other than your own. There's no limit to the subtypes you can assume, so long as the base type is the same as your own. For example if you're a human, your type and subtype is humanoid (human), so you can assume the form of any other humanoid creature, such as an orc, goblin, dwarf, or elf. Note that the monstrous humanoid type is different from the humanoid type. If you're a human, you can't use alter self to assume the form of a monstrous humanoid creature such as a sahuagin or minotaur.

When you share an alter self spell with a familiar or companion, the familiar or companion assumes a form of the same type as its own. While an animal becomes a magical beast upon becoming a familiar, such a creature must assume the form of an animal when sharing an alter self spell. For example, a cat familiar is a magical beast; when it shares an alter self spell, it assumes the form of an animal, such as a dog, a bird or a bat, not the form of a magical beast.

Thanks Luni. Just a few things:

I think you forgot Psionic weapon on round 7. The extra 2d6 might be enough to bring him below 0. He had 9 hp left later.

I also had a touchsight stone which would have helped me greatly while the slaad was invisible all these many rounds. Better than attacking empty air for so many rounds.

Could you please look into that again?

Rook vs Aeiou is finished

I did count the Psionic Damage on round 7, I just didn't label it neatly. It was 6 points of damage.

As for touchsight, you were raging when he went invisible, and activating a power stone wouldn't be allowed.

Hm, ok. But you didn't fullattack.

Round 8, bite, rake, rake missing plus Ganime's attacks hoof hoof bite. Same for all the following rounds. Tactic excerpt:

Once in melee, hack him with rage, frenzy, higher ground, powerattack 2, psionic weapon. Use mount for cover on attacks.
Attack routine is: Glaive, 5ft step, Bite, Rake, Rake, and Ganime hoof, hoof, bite. Next round same from behind.

What's the code for the online roller? None of the links work.

Rnd 7-9: Either I am 5 or 10ft away depending on my attack routine. In any case, I get an AoO for his drinking a potion or casting fear.
Cerebus13

07-11-05, 07:59 PM
Rake can only be used in a grapple.

Rake

A creature with this special attack gains extra natural attacks when it grapples its foe. Normally, a monster can attack with only one of its natural weapons while grappling, but a monster with the rake ability usually gains two additional claw attacks that it can use only against a grappled foe. Rake attacks are not subject to the usual -4 penalty for attacking with a natural weapon in a grapple.

A monster with the rake ability must begin its turn grappling to use its rake—it can’t begin a grapple and rake in the same turn.

I fixed the online roller. As for the full attack. You ended round 7 10' apart. The slaad, moved back 5'. So, you could either move 5' and attack with your glaive, or move 10' and attack with your bite.

Cat: What do you mean no ECL 6 ally?
A pegasus is a CR 3 ally.
So ECL 7-4 = CR 3
I don't understand why no Peg?????

And even if I couldn't bring my peg, you could have at least PMed me so I could change my tactics.

But please tell me why no peg, and in that case, if I can't, then why can Ceres?????

REally confused and angry!
Caterane

07-11-05, 08:30 PM
A pegasus is a LA creature. 4 HD+2LA = ECL 6.
ECL 6 = CA 6.
Your maxCA is 5 so you cannot bring it in.

See Rules of Gladius: Allies.
Kaigan

07-11-05, 08:34 PM
A pegasus has a +2 LA for cohort only.
I thought that meant if you take the leadership feat, not if you buy it.

And as I said, if I can't use it then why was Ceres allowed to use it on quests and now the campaign?
And why did you not send me a PM stating such.
I find this unfair.

But as I said, the Pegasus entry under LA has +2 LA (cohort)
Please explain what that means.
Caterane

07-11-05, 08:38 PM
You can even play (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=5179949) a pegasus because of his LA. See FAQ: Cohorts (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6466763) for details. It's clearly written that it has ECL 6.

Ceres is subject to the same restrictions. No one noticed until now.

I didn't see it until I ran the fight. Your tactic however did not depend on flight so no impact from that side.
Kaigan

07-11-05, 08:46 PM
Then why the +2 (Cohort).
I don't understand why they would put cohort like that.

And yes, flying was a big part of my tactics, a big part.
Flying was to my advantage due to superior speed.

Had I not been flying I would have followed different tactics all together.
I am really disappointed in this.

On another note:
I will not be able to run my 2v2 fight.
I started it on Saturday but my comp crashed, and the saved fight was corrupted.
I started again on Sunday, but again, i lost the file somehow.
And now I'm having just a little crisis, and so I'm a little stressed out.

Anyways, whoever takes it up, i'll PM you all the tactics within the next couple of hours.
I apologize for to my gladiators.

Cat: Take me off of pitlording, no more fights for me. And I'll only have Rayos and perhaps Aeiou active from now on.
Have fun everyone and see you when life goes back to normal.
Caterane

07-11-05, 09:00 PM
For the third time: it's an LA creature. Read the Monster Manual description. Read the DMG section about special cohorts. You can even take it with the leadership feat which is ONLY for LA creatures. If you don't understand that rule, check your books.

And yes, flying was a big part of my tactics, a big part.
Flying was to my advantage due to superior speed.

Had I not been flying I would have followed different tactics all together.
I am really disappointed in this.

I don't think so. Let's see:

Fly up in the air, and tap tattoo of synesthete (Listen).

Rook will likely be improved invisible, so I can only beat him through listen checks, and my pegasus' detect good/evil.

Fly around the arena, only single moving, having the pegasus detecting good.
The peg understands common, so i think this is legal.
Only single move, and end my move by readying my action to fly away upon hearing spellcasting/manifesting. When I hear manifesting, immediatly towards it, and end at the sound.
Pegasus has scent and detect good, so it should be able to pinpoint Rook. Have it attack Rook, and I will attack the space that it attacked with my lance using it two-handed powerattacking for -2/+4 and keep that up.

that's about it.
Heal when you think appropriate and improvise if my tactics break down, which they probably will.

No mentioning of a Blitzkrieg. You even wanted to fly away upon hearing spellcasting. Of course, the following line contradicts that again so I had to decide on one or the other tactic.

While the pegasus uses its detect good (concentration = standard action) it cannot ready an action so that wouldn't've worked anyway.

Now read over your (very simple) tactics. Your aim was to get into melee and you got into melee. If you have a horse or a pegasus is irrelevant for that tactic. You arrived there in the same round. The only difference is the charge vs normal attack but a charge was not even mentioned in your tactics. You just wanted to get into melee anyhow.

But please tell me what you would have done if you would have known that the pegasus is not a viable ally.
Kaigan

07-11-05, 09:05 PM
Well I worded my tactics wrong, I had meant move towards the spell casting, not away, but anyways, if I had a normal horse, I would have used my bow.

But it doesn't matter, like I said, please no more fights for me, probably till september, maybe later.

I will try keep Aeiou and Rayos active, but we'll see...
Well if anyone can take my fight, please do, I really appreciate it.
Caterane

07-11-05, 09:07 PM
The bow. And how do you want to find invisible Rook? He would have buffed to the roof, then used fly to stay forever out of your reach while he rains death on your head. Hideous laughter (Will fails), mind thrust, mind thrust, scroching ray, etc etc
Kaigan

Tellish_of_Ket

07-11-05, 09:24 PM
Not picking on you Cat, but completely uncalled for. IMHO anyhow. If something pivotal is missing from a characters repetoire the pc in question SHOULD know about it. We've all been guilty of it in our time, (i mean including something that should be allowed) and we've all appreciated it when a pitlord tells ya NO!!! You yourself have requested that it be that way many times.

I think the same courtesy could have applied to Kaigan. If something so drastic as an ally he was counting on (regardless of tactics) was no longer being made available to him, we owe it the player as a pitlord to try and let them know before the fight.

I think the LA (cohort only) is a rough interpretation, but i guess you guys set up that rule ahead of time. What concerns me with that, and what happened here in this fight is if my Wiz 7, takes improved familiar and gets an ice mephit which is LA +3 (cohort) and has 3HD. According to gladius math it's ECL 6, which means i cannot take it in even though i've legally acquire it?? Now that doesn' t make sense. Because the tag (cohort) sets it apart with which rules govern it. If the same wizard were to take Leadership and attempt to acquire it, i would 100% agree that it's an ECL 7 (because it is now a cohort) and you could not bring it in.

The problem is that kaigan may have acquired the pegasus through other means...and that's the kicker. But if you stick to the general rule of ALL LA's falling under the same category then there is something wrong and obviously broke and needs to be fixed. Maybe not in the case of the pegasus, but my example is a perfect one.

Regardless, Kaigan should have been notified something was amiss and he, you and his opponent could have came up to some kind of compromise. Again, that's just my opinion though.

@Huan: Never stand still as a mage. To hear a mage casting is Dc0.
I just wanna clarify something here. To hear a mage casting is NOT DC ZERO. To hear someone speaking is DC 0. Unless you beat the DC by 10, you cannot make out what is being said and thus cannot spellcraft the results.

Well guys, I just got home from work and I looked some stuff up in my spare time, so here we go.....

Spell Completion: This is the activation method for scrolls. A scroll is a spell that is mostly finished. The preparation is done for the caster, so no preparation time is needed beforehand as with normal spellcasting. All that’s left to do is perform the finishing parts of the spellcasting (the final gestures, words, and so on). To use a spell completion item safely, a character must be of high enough level in the right class to cast the spell already. If he can’t already cast the spell, there’s a chance he’ll make a mistake. Activating a spell completion item is a standard action and provokes attacks of opportunity exactly as casting a spell does.

So, there is NO WAY that one would be able to cast from a scroll while grappling, since they would not be able to perform 'the final gestures, words, and so on' while their hands are occupied. This is just as we have always believed and treated it.

Power Completion: This is the activation method for power stones. A power stone holds a power that is mostly finished. All that’s left to do is perform the short, simple, finishing parts of the manifestation (the final mental coda, as it were). To use a power completion item safely, a character must be of high enough level in the appropriate class to manifest the power already. If he can’t already manifest the power, there’s a chance he’ll make a mistake (see Brainburn in the power stone description). Activating a power completion item is a standard action and provokes attacks of opportunity exactly as manifesting a power does.

So, contrary to what I thought this morning, one should be able to manifest from a power stone while grappling, if they already had the stone in hand, since all they would have to do is perform the short, simple 'final final mental coda' while their hands are occupied.

I do apologize for any misunderstanding, since this is specifically covered by the following:

Activate a Magic Item: You can activate a magic item, as long as the item doesn’t require a spell completion trigger. You don’t need to make a grapple check to activate the item.

Sorry for any confusion.

What happens if a cohort or ally dies?
That depends. If a cohort or ally dies in the Arena (or otherwise inside the Nimbus), it is immediately True Ressurected, re-summoned, re-animated, or otherwise made whole again, for free. There will be no negative side-effects from losing an ally (eg paladin's mount, familiar).

A class ally can always be brought in the arena, regardless of it filling up your CA, or even surpassing it. It does count towards your CA though.

Example: you (ECL 7) have an impr.familar (ECL 6). Normally not possible because maxCA is your ECL-2 (that's ECL 5) but since the familiar is a class ally, you can bring it in. Your CA is full now though so no additional allies. Not even a mouse. It's all in the FAQ.

Anna does receive gp for winning the monster fight, right? Isn't the gp reward based upon the Xorn's CR's?

I think her rewards should be: 3600 xp, 6800 gp.

Oh, and I forgot to mention the d20 that missed my Reflex save by 1. Would've changed things a little, maybe. Seriously, your dice suck.
But, of course, I need something to complain about. What I expected to be an easy fight (because my first action was to cast resist elements(acid) and I have a decent Reflex save) was over before I was aware it had started.

Nicolae & Tira VS Zars and Alfred

Firstly: I just want to confirm that you used a +8 will save for Alfred on that roll where he got an 11. I couldn't figure out how to access the online roller, so I'm just asking :).((his will save is 3+3(vs spells)+2(vs good from pot)))

This could be my inexperiance in Gladius...

"If being in the open become cumbersome, feel free to hide."

Was this too vague of an instruction?((ie- do all of my instructions need to be "if X effect happens, do Y" kind of things?)) I felt like once Alfred was up to 22damage he should have been breaking off to hide.((He has smoke sticks to aid in re-hiding after observed)) I also never drank my pot of blur? That woulda protected me from sa damage...

Actually, I feel like this entire paragraph from my tactics was ignored:

Apart from the thunderstone tactic, drink a pot of Blur(10 turn duration) and go after Lady Tira first. Opt for melee over ranged against her. If the rogue is nearby go after him. If being in the open become cumbersome, feel free to hide.

I even specifically said to go after the rogue if he was nearby.

McJarvis,

Take it from someone who lost fights because gladiators didn't do exactly as their creater wanted them to - it is an imperfect system and the pitlords usually do they best they can.

The best way to avoid this is to make your tactics clear and concise with an order of priorites.

"drink a pot of Blur(10 turn duration) and go after Lady Tira first. Opt for melee over ranged against her. If the rogue is nearby go after him. If being in the open become cumbersome, feel free to hide."

As a pitlord, I would interpret this as you wanting to kill Tira with your greatsword first and foremost and, only if this weren't possible, then go after the rogue. "Opt" "first" and being listed first are what I'd base my jugement on.

"feel free to hide" is ok, often times leaving things to pitlord's discretion is best, but I would not know what you mean by "cumbersome". "If I need a 20 to hit" or "I have less than 5 hp" are much better ques to your pitlord.

Shorter is better than longer when it comes to tactics.
Specific conditions rather than vague generalizations are better.
Straight out telling your pitlord what your main tactic is is always a good idea.

xanadu is right, it is often very difficult to follow someone's tactics, no matter how well or detailed they are.

Ok...I'll keep that all in mind next time. I don't _really_ want tellish to re-run the fight(especially considering how late it is), I just want to make sure I don't make the same mistakes tactics-formating wise again. It's frustrating knowing your char prolly should've mopped the floor with the opfor...

You aren't the first to think that and you wont be the last :)

Small expansion of Asmerioviel's 'battle' (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6670666) is up. (And yes, there is an obvious inside joke there... fully intentional to those who catch it)... I find I must work on the intro's for the new campaign, now....

@All in 2vs2: Tactics on all sides were fairly vague. I, as a pitlord, prefer to have exacting tactics. If left to my own judgement one team could say i easily showed preference towards the others if i start modifying. I thought i was generous enough to get you guys to double flank and use the delay tactics to optimize your chances to hit. I think the problem was that you didn't anticipate that Tira would be so hard to hit, hence why i suggested you should grapple mages. But, considering your team barely rolled over a 10 the whole fight, i think that was the bigger reason for loss. When you had been badly damaged, you were planning to step away and get out of combat. But you were double flanked, and couldn't just run without provoking and risking getting killed right there. I had to 5' you away from at least one person to drink a clw to be able to flee the following round. Trouble is, everyone hit you that round and dropped you. I have some notes at the end of the fight. If you haven't read them, plz do. Plus the friggin' dog rolled like three 20's(?) or something like that. That surely didn't help.
