| McJarvis04-09-08, 02:56 PM | Please don't edit the sheet after the deadline or you will lose the match. News and Whatnot New Rulings - Courtroom The following rulings were voted for by MWB, Zevox, Telin, and Erithmu. Sauro voted against. Seeing as how Hirm is AFK right now & crazy didn't comment, I'm counting them as "decided". You can not find invisible creatures merely by moving through thier square- they can merely opt to let you pass by. The only exception is if you end movement in the same square as an invisible creature- you will then effectively know an invisible creature was there because you will be "moved" to the last legal square you occupied. A Shadowdancer/Assassin's HiPS does not require concealment or cover to use- it merely requires a shadow nearby that is not their own. This shadow does not have to be visible to the observer or even grant any sort of concealment itself. The Council Decisions/Revelations Current Topics Council - Mechanics of the "Awaken" spell is currently being discussed in the council. Courtroom- Good grief, we're talking about the Bag of Tricks again. Sooner or later Lelenia will level enough that we can put these discussions behind us. :-) Council- Delay rules are still being discussed. Check out the Courtroom and Council to join in all the fun! Rules of Gladius All that you need to know is written in the Rules of Gladius. It could be useful also to give a look to the Court Decisions Part 1 and Part 2. Please do not make fake accounts or insult the Elders. New idea: let's not insult anyone, ok? :) Pairings GM MindWandererB will pair the active Characters of Gladius after the deadline. Link to pairings. Make sure that your character is not in prison. Pitlording You should use the CoCo Dice Roller (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com) for the fight. If you need it, there is a nice template ready to use that will help. You could find the Battle Map Tag Generator (http://www.hwx.it/coco) for dynamic Maps very useful. You must post a link to your fight in this thread when it is complete. If you need a quick and dirty tool to calculate distances between two points (in 2-D or 3-D), this tool (http://wormhole.ath.cx/coco/coco_dist.php) should suffice. Another useful link is the Quick Access tables for XP and Gold. If a fight needs to be rerun, the Pitlord has to inform the Pitlords account. He cannot react to requests from Players because the other player and the pitlord might disagree. He has no time to read the fight and the discussion. Please keep that in mind. PMs from players with rerun requests won't have an impact. Comments & Concerns Post any comments or concerns for this weeks fights in this thread. Be kind and courteous to your fellow posters, and don't feed the pitlords. Please remember that they do hard work and consume a lot of time to let you play. Above all, have FUN! If you have questions or comments on any of the changes, please make your posts be heard in the Council of Gladius! |

| McJarvis04-09-08, 03:56 PM | A plains fight again for gradak what makes you think that it is his favorite map. I would love to fight on a different map sometime. This is getting comical :D |
| MindWandererB04-09-08, 03:59 PM | @Telin: in case you missed it, tactics for Darian/Gak are here. @Sjiggie: It's certainly not intentional. The program just has it in for you. |

| TelinArtho04-09-08, 04:01 PM | @Telin: in case you missed it, tactics for Darian/Gak are here. @Sjiggie: It's certainly not intentional. The program just has it in for you. Thanks MWB - I'll grab them shortly. @lonewolf:for Max Ribbleton A bunch of rerolls here due to the map: 19: 3 Ettercaps 55: 2 Rhinoceri 25: Gargantuan Centipede 24: 3 Formian Warriors (none for treasure - so can't buy ranged weapons...) Anyway: 1 Medium Biped - no knowledge skills |
| whitebaron04-09-08, 04:02 PM | hmm, i was hoping for an interleague for verren or lelenia, and what do i get - Lelenia Rovan (whitebaron) and Verren FireStarter (whitebaron) vs. Unknown Monster :( monster interleague, yeah... give me a phasm, please... |
| Sjiggie04-09-08, 04:03 PM | @Sjiggie: It's certainly not intentional. The program just has it in for you. I know it is not intentional and the last 2 fights on the plains did end in my favour but like McJarvis this is getting comical. I don't blame you for it I just have to live with it. Sjiggie |
| lonewolf04-09-08, 04:08 PM | @lonewolf:for Max Ribbleton A bunch of rerolls here due to the map: 19: 3 Ettercaps 55: 2 Rhinoceri 25: Gargantuan Centipede 24: 3 Formian Warriors (none for treasure - so can't buy ranged weapons...) Anyway: 1 Medium Biped - no knowledge skills  Why the rerolls? Max has no way to fly or levitate, plus in Dim Light I cant even see them over the whole map... |
| MindWandererB04-09-08, 04:12 PM | hmm, i was hoping for an interleague for verren or lelenia, and what do i get - Lelenia Rovan (whitebaron) and Verren FireStarter (whitebaron) vs. Unknown Monster :( monster interleague, yeah... give me a phasm, please...If you prefer, I could make it a team fight (Lelenia Rovan (whitebaron) and Verren FireStarter (whitebaron) vs. Unknown Monster and Unknown Monster). It's all one to me. Aren't I generous? :D |
| whitebaron04-09-08, 04:12 PM | @mwb: since lonewolf gave me some strange ideas now, i gotta ask: Lelenia Rovan (whitebaron) and Verren FireStarter (whitebaron) vs. Unknown Monster : Callix [Arena] what's that supposed to be? monster team fight or monster interleague? could be both, actually... |
| MindWandererB04-09-08, 04:14 PM | @mwb: since lonewolf gave me some strange ideas now, i gotta ask: Lelenia Rovan (whitebaron) and Verren FireStarter (whitebaron) vs. Unknown Monster : Callix [Arena] what's that supposed to be? monster team fight or monster interleague? could be both, actually... As written it's an interleague, and my bad for not designating it as such. But as I said, I'll give you the choice between one EL 9 roll or two EL 7 rolls. |
| whitebaron04-09-08, 04:26 PM | As written it's an interleague, and my bad for not designating it as such. But as I said, I'll give you the choice between one EL 9 roll or two EL 7 rolls. oh, post in the same minute. ;) but i'd rather have one fatty to focus on... side question: what do you believe is the correct starting place for an interleague ad-hoc team? same square, or rolled and maybe same square? |
| MindWandererB04-09-08, 04:32 PM | oh, post in the same minute. ;) but i'd rather have one fatty to focus on... side question: what do you believe is the correct starting place for an interleague ad-hoc team? same square, or rolled and maybe same square? As currently written, random with the possibility of the same square. |
| whitebaron04-09-08, 04:37 PM | As currently written, random with the possibility of the same square. and do you believe this to be a good rule? its hard enough for lower level characters to actually have a chance in such a fight, unless their teams already have good synergies. |
| TelinArtho04-09-08, 04:43 PM | Why the rerolls? Max has no way to fly or levitate, plus in Dim Light I cant even see them over the whole map... Because rerolls are based on the abilities of the creature on the map - none of them have the ability to engage a flying opponent on the plains - so they all get rerolled. It does not matter that Max has no way to engage them this way - that knowledge is not available to me when I roll the opponent. Also - dim light does not afford concealment, so by the rules you actually auto-spot each other on the plains. |
| lonewolf04-09-08, 04:57 PM | Dim light: Distance penalties for Spot checks are doubled, and Hide checks can be made without cover or concealment. Low-light vision negates these effects. Shadows are everywhere. => no autospots. Rerolls: It might happen that the monster is too weak on the set map. For example, a pair of Dire Bears have little chance against a flying archer on the Plains map. Likewise, a gargantuan centipede is worm food in the sewer. If you roll a monster that is obviously seriously handicapped because of the map, then roll again. Another reason to reroll is if you got one of the few monsters that are not in the SRD and you possess no Monster Manual. The example with the flying archer leads me to the assumption that the abilities of the character should play a role wether or not to reroll. But anyway, I´ll just take the medium biped, even though there are some really hard things on that list that fit that description... |
| Callix04-09-08, 04:58 PM | Monster roll for Lelenia and Verren: Medium Outsider (Formerly Humanoid) with two arms, two legs and a head. I gotta remember, it's CR not HD. |
| TelinArtho04-09-08, 05:05 PM | Well - I missed the hide thing about the lighting conditions. As for the latter - this is a change that was discussed in the Council. It may not be reflected in the current rules - but it takes the judgement call out of whether a monster fight is an auto-win or not and puts it into a "can this creature affect creatures on the map." Had the map been anything other than the plains, the city or the arena, the ettercaps would not have been rerolled. |
| lonewolf04-09-08, 05:21 PM | @MWB & maybe Telin: 92 1 1st-level Fiendish Werewolf Fighter [CR 6] This one is actually only CR 5. If this is Max monster it should be rerolled because it is invalid and either way it should be changed or removed from the list. |
| TelinArtho04-09-08, 05:45 PM | How do you get CR5? It is clearly wrong - but I think it should be CR3: 1st level Fighter = CR1 Lycanthrope with 2 Animal HD = +2 CR Fiendish for 3 total HD = no change. |
| lonewolf04-09-08, 05:51 PM | How do you get CR5? It is clearly wrong - but I think it should be CR3: 1st level Fighter = CR1 Lycanthrope with 2 Animal HD = +2 CR Fiendish for 3 total HD = no change. If you add a fighter level to the werwolf(making him a warrior1/fighter1) instead of replacing the warrior level with a fighter level you have 4HD and thus CR5. |
| SauroGrenom04-09-08, 05:56 PM | templer10, The Dark One is up against a shield guardian. Good luck. Anyone, Do I get to load this shield guardian with a stored spell? I assume so. |
| lonewolf04-09-08, 06:06 PM | Anyone, Do I get to load this shield guardian with a stored spell? I assume so. My first reaction was: pay for spellcasting service, but the thing has treasure: none In that case, I would say: Yes, it gets a spell for free. |
| TelinArtho04-09-08, 06:12 PM | If you add a fighter level to the werwolf(making him a warrior1/fighter1) instead of replacing the warrior level with a fighter level you have 4HD and thus CR5. If it kept the warrior level - it would state it there. Anyway - that's not the creature you are fighting - so we can safely ignore it and put it into the request to fix the table. @my pitlords - tactics have been sent. |
| lonewolf04-09-08, 06:16 PM | @Telin: tactics for max are away. Which of those monsters is it? |
| MindWandererB04-09-08, 06:25 PM | and do you believe this to be a good rule? its hard enough for lower level characters to actually have a chance in such a fight, unless their teams already have good synergies.I didn't say it was a good rule, I just said it was the rule. Cat's rule, not mine. Take it to the Council and I'll probably vote for changing it.@MWB & maybe Telin: This one is actually only CR 5. If this is Max monster it should be rerolled because it is invalid and either way it should be changed or removed from the list.I don't know what whoever created that was thinking, but either way it's now a fiendish weretiger. |
| TelinArtho04-09-08, 09:10 PM | @Telin: tactics for max are away. Which of those monsters is it? I will post it with the fight. If I have a light day tomorrow you might even get the whole fight. |
| Stormwind04-10-08, 08:48 AM | @templer10: Tactics for Varjo sent. |
| lonewolf04-10-08, 09:03 AM | @Crazy: Team tactics for Korwald & Ralein are away. Lets see how that works out... |
| TelinArtho04-10-08, 09:08 AM | @lonewolf - your creature is up - a sea hag vampire. I was just waiting until I wrote my tactics before taking a look at yours. As it is - I think you have a decent shot - depending on the bat swarms... |
| lonewolf04-10-08, 10:09 AM | I think this will be a fast one. Max needs to get only one hit in on that thing, but he can also be very dead very fast. Lets hope for a bit of luck with the dice. |
| TelinArtho04-10-08, 02:21 PM | Darian Thorne (lonewolf) vs Gakhnalak Strongjaw (MindWandererB) is up. I'm fairly certain I cheated Gak out of some attacks in here - so I'm not certain it is fully done - but let me know if there's issues. |
| MindWandererB04-10-08, 03:13 PM | Darian Thorne (lonewolf) vs Gakhnalak Strongjaw (MindWandererB) is up. I'm fairly certain I cheated Gak out of some attacks in here - so I'm not certain it is fully done - but let me know if there's issues. You have some seriously screwy names in there--Xander takes actions after dying (including manifesting ACs), and an astral construct attacks Darian. You also seem to have forgotten that it's possible to take a 5' step in the middle of a full attack, so using armor spikes is unnecessary. Mostly the result was decided with that Dispel, but some lucky rolls with guisarme damage might at least make it a closer fight. |
| Turanson04-10-08, 03:36 PM | @Dulsi: Tactic for Nordens sent |
| Salrantol04-10-08, 06:11 PM | @Yitzi: Tactics for Salvador sent via PM. In related news, I noticed while making tactics for this fight that several items didn't make it from Salvador's draft sheet to the official sheet. Can those be added in after this fight, since it's a new character and all, and they were accounted for in his gold reserves and his weight carried? Does that need a Training Hall request or can it just be done? |

Mostly the result was decided with that Dispel, but some lucky rolls with guisarme damage might at least make it a closer fight. Entirely possible on the names. Frankly - Darian feels more like a Xander to me... lonewolf - please change his name to reflect that so that we can avoid this confusion in the future (:P) As for 5ft steps - that's not going to happen - you are in hampered terrain on pretty much the entire map. For using the armor spikes - I had you base Darian since it seemed important to not let him get away (whereas - moving within reach of the guisarme only means he can withdraw away safely). I will take another look when I get the chance though - if only to clear up the names. |
| lonewolf04-10-08, 07:28 PM | Darian Thorne (lonewolf) vs Gakhnalak Strongjaw (MindWandererB) is up. I'm fairly certain I cheated Gak out of some attacks in here - so I'm not certain it is fully done - but let me know if there's issues. Why did you move Darian out into the open in round 6?? His whole tactics was to use Xander and Astral Constructs as a buffer to Gakhnalak and he could have easily dispelled Gakhnalak from 12,21 or 12,20. EDIT: even from 12,22 and 12,23 there is LOS to Gakhnalak. This means that he can start creating that Astral Construct one round earlier giving him the chance to create the second construct as planned. Also that first construct should then be able to act as an additional buffer against Gakhnalak, preventing him to get closer. If there are any major edits done, I´d like that changed since I specifically asked Darian to stay behind Xander. Another mistake that doesnt change anything is that you missed to use Fist of Iron for Xanders first grapple. But he fails anyway. thanks |
| whitebaron04-11-08, 06:45 AM | @dulsi, mwb: tactics received. will be a nice hack-fest without much ado. ;) @callix: tactics for that team-monster-fight sent. should be pretty straighforward... unless you make it another way. ;) |

| MagicChoco04-11-08, 01:22 PM | Ah. Must've missed the pricing part.Thanio vs. Volley is up as always please tell me of any problems (I feel like I missed somthing)Well, Volley was supposed to start reading bowshots after the hiding started, but as I failed to really specify any sort trigger for the shots... Nope. Looks good to me. :) |
| TelinArtho04-11-08, 02:32 PM | Made some edits to the Darian vs Gak fight. Highlight: Did not move Darian out into the open (I don't know why I did - you clearly didn't want to do that...). As a result - Gak just started attacking Xander rather than try to move around him. This means that while Darian gets to summoning one round earlier - Gak also kills Xander one round earlier. I still had Gak base Darian rather than try to engage with the guisarme - since his intent was to keep Darian close - and if he didn't do it this way, Darian could just withdraw safely. The end was still the Energy current. No change to resources used or to the result. I recognize that the end of the fight is a relative mess - I apologize for that now... |

| CrazyArtificer04-11-08, 03:03 PM | Tactics for team "Save or Die" vs team "Hulk Smash" are out :) Received tactics for both teams  |
| Yitzi04-11-08, 03:41 PM | I was looking over Thanio's fight, and noticed you made 1 or 2 mistakes in his favor. One is that when I shoot, I am seen (since I didn't snipe), so he gets to take his readied shot. At 24 AC (including cover), he needs a 17 to hit, and needs 2 or 3 hits (or a crit) to kill, so it probably doesn't matter. The second thing is that she may have had cover for the 3rd shot (I checked, and she doesn't for the second), I can't tell since you you didn't post a map for that round, but it hits anyway. |
| Turanson04-11-08, 04:52 PM | Ah. Looks good to me. :) sorry missed the "if hidding part" it is prety clear (ones one read it  ) that you ready on sight. I'll go and edit it now. edit done no change in the result, but volley did draw blod. if you see any other problems speak up. |

| Callix04-11-08, 06:04 PM | Seeing as Whitebaron was able to deduce the monster from the information, I'll go ahead and ask. The monster for the IL fight has class levels and a template, and lists "MM Default" next to it. What does this mean? |

What does this mean? in the 3.5 monster manual, there is a half-fiend cleric premade. -> this is what should be used. lonewolf relayed the spell selection to me, as i don't have a 3.5mm -> 4- CCW, summon IV, unholy blight 3- bestow curse, CSW, dispel, magic vestment 2- bears endurance, bulls strength, hold person, sound burst, spiritual weapon 1- command, CLW, divine Favor, doom, pfg, sof |
| Turanson04-12-08, 10:13 AM | with this Dim light will Dentik be able to see Gradak in this case round 0 http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=plains;a=Den,M,89,8,Den tik;b=Ro,S,90,8,Rock;c=Sto,S,89,7,Stone; d=Gra,M,4,8,Gradak he don't have cover but don't need it to hide but I guess that Dentik might see him before Gradak react and therefor know the starding box right? but then Gradak could never hide as he can't break LOS am I missing somthing (my mind just don't seem to work well this weekend :( ) |
| CrazyArtificer04-12-08, 10:36 AM | Dim light: Distance penalties for Spot checks are doubled, and Hide checks can be made without cover or concealment. Low-light vision negates these effects. Shadows are everywhere. I'd say that both opponents start hidden. Roll hide checks in round 0. |
| Turanson04-12-08, 10:44 AM | I'll do that thanks |
| Turanson04-12-08, 02:39 PM | Dentik vs. Gradak is up I'm not sure I got the dim light right so tell me if I didn't and I'll change it tomorrow |
| DividingLine04-12-08, 02:53 PM | Dim light: Distance penalties for Spot checks are doubled, and Hide checks can be made without cover or concealment. Low-light vision negates these effects. Shadows are everywhere. I'd say that both opponents start hidden. Roll hide checks in round 0. A character can't hide before he has had a chance to act; whoever goes first is 'hidden', whoever goes second is not. |

Shadows are everywhere. I'd say that both opponents start hidden. Roll hide checks in round 0. You need to take an action to start hiding[it is a part of most move-actions] The person who wins initiative is the only one effectively hidden. |
| Sjiggie04-12-08, 06:55 PM | @ Turanson: thanks for running the fight but I noticed a couple of things. Gradak has low-light vision and it negates the double penalties for spot checks and Dentik can't hide without cover or concealment so Gradak should be able to start sniping from round 2. If this isn't the case Gradak spots dentik in round 5 but doesn't attack in round 6 I can't find a reason why he shouldn't do it. Further in round 8 Gradak misses because of Total defense but Total defense gives a dodge bonus to AC and you lose the dodge bonus when you can't apply Dex to AC so it should hit. And because of the rolls the Earth elementals should start going to the northern starting box. Now I know it is a pain to run but because you let them close in on me and they didn't even get the chance to spot me you effectively kill my tactics. I would appreciate it you could edit it in. The plains isn't my favorite map as you might have noticed but by letting them close in on me without even spotting me you make it an unfair fight. I only let people close in on each other if they state in their tactics that they want to look for each other. I want Gradak to remain hidden as long as he can and avoid Dentik for as long as he can but now he just can't Thanks Sjiggie |
| TelinArtho04-12-08, 07:57 PM | Once Dentik and his elementals are in range of darkvision - Gradak can no longer hide at all - chameleon or not. If anything changes due to Sjiggie's concerns - this is a pretty big deal that would alter things in Dentik's favor more (since the elementals wouldn't spend so much time up close looking for Gradak. |
| Turanson04-12-08, 09:05 PM | @Sjiggie,TelinArtho. 1. why does Gradak have low-light vision, I don't think Halflings get that and I can't see it in you sheet if it comes from somewhere else tell me and I'll edit it in. 2. The reason Gradak can't see Dentik isn't that he is hiding it was becaus I used the part of the SDR saying Sometimes a creature isn’t intentionally hiding but is still difficult to see, so a successful Spot check is necessary to notice it. This might not be how it is done or I may be entirely wrong to use it, if so tell me and it's out 3. Gradak first see Dentik after Dentik has moved and as he didn't ready a shoot he first shoot in round 6 4. about the total defence you right. 5. ok ok I'll go the long way North. the reason why I did it was that the way I used the spot check you just could not see him to snipe before he came rather close, and I didn't think it would matter in what round he came 6. argh those darn Elementals have dark vision ok will change that to. please look at these points and tell where I'm wrong I'll edit it once I'll wake up |
| Yitzi04-12-08, 10:59 PM | The second thing is that she may have had cover for the 3rd shot (I checked, and she doesn't for the second), I can't tell since you you didn't post a map for that round, but it hits anyway. I rechecked, and realized she actually does have cover for the 2nd shot, so I need one more hit to win. Shouldn't be too hard. Sorry for the inconvenience Turanson, you'll get better with practice. |
| Turanson04-13-08, 02:35 AM | I rechecked, and realized she actually does have cover for the 2nd shot, so I need one more hit to win. Shouldn't be too hard. | Yitzi04-13-08, 07:16 AM | Sorry to do this to you, and I checked, and...you were (half) right the first time. They are full cover, but only for medium creatures. But on the other hand, it says 2 front squares need to be blocked, and the 2 bottom squares are both (partially) blocked by that rock, so I'm not sure whether it needs to be changed back. Arrow use is the only ramification anyway... |
| Sjiggie04-13-08, 07:39 AM | @Sjiggie,TelinArtho. 1. why does Gradak have low-light vision, I don't think Halflings get that and I can't see it in you sheet if it comes from somewhere else tell me and I'll edit it in. Argh.. I was wrong with that I thought it was a racial trait but it isn't *goes and buys some stones of Elfsight for the next cycle 2. The reason Gradak can't see Dentik isn't that he is hiding it was becaus I used the part of the SDR saying This might not be how it is done or I may be entirely wrong to use it, if so tell me and it's outI see where it comes from but unfortunately there are no rules given how high the DC would be for such a spot check. Can an Elder shed some light on this. I know we have a rule that every gladiator autospots his opponent if there is no cover or concealment between them but I don't know if this was the intent of it. 3. Gradak first see Dentik after Dentik has moved and as he didn't ready a shoot he first shoot in round 6Not according to the rolls and the fight. It seems you have copied round 5 into round 6 and went on with round 7 can't really tell 4. about the total defence you right. Thanks 5. ok ok I'll go the long way North. the reason why I did it was that the way I used the spot check you just could not see him to snipe before he came rather close, and I didn't think it would matter in what round he came My point became a bit irrelevant about this one because of those spot rules and the fact that I thought Halflings had Low-Light Vision I now understand why you did it but please take what I said above into consideration 6. argh those darn Elementals have dark vision ok will change that to. I had a contingency for this to stay at least 100ft away from the elementals/Dentik it may not be entirely clear but this was the whole reason for it. Gradak wants to be able to hide at all times and thus be out of darkvision range from the elementals and dentik please look at these points and tell where I'm wrong I'll edit it once I'll wake up Thanks for going over it again I appreciate it. Sjiggie |
| Turanson04-13-08, 07:54 AM | Not according to the rolls and the fight. It seems you have copied round 5 into round 6 and went on with round 7 can't really tell the thing in that round was that in Gradaks turn Dentik was to far away to be spotted so he just waited then in Dentiks turn he moved with in a distance where you had a chance of seeing him and that is then the spot check comes in (in order for it to be clear it could be that I should have made the check in round 6) |
| Turanson04-13-08, 08:02 AM | I see where it comes from but unfortunately there are no rules given how high the DC would be for such a spot check. Can an Elder shed some light on this. I know we have a rule that every gladiator autospots his opponent if there is no cover or concealment between them but I don't know if this was the intent of it. yes if an elder could please tell me how to do this within the rules I'll get the fight edit. (and hopefully done today ;) ) |
| McJarvis04-13-08, 08:32 AM | In CoCo you only need to make a spot check to notice hiding creatures and other objects that are specifically defined as needing a spot check[like invisible creatures] The current lighting settings(dim light) allow gladiators to hide without cover or concealment. If they can not hide[due to being observed], they are auto-spotted. |
| Turanson04-13-08, 09:19 AM | ok thanks McJ I'll begin an edit of the fight Edit done: it got close but same result |

| Sjiggie04-13-08, 02:40 PM | ok thanks McJ I'll begin an edit of the fight Edit done: it got close but same result Thanks for the rerun but I still have an issue about how you play Gradak (Don't take it personally) I stated in my tactics to whatever it is stay out of their darkvision range. Now I know it is a sentence with an open end. But I think when Gradak sees Dentik and his allies run around the arena he could move to the middle or at least to the east earlier then he did to avoid them a bit longer. This way he might get 2 or 3 more hits in and that could kill Dentik. Thanks Sjiggie |

Thanks Sjiggie hhmm I do see your point about moving earlier the reason why I didn't was that you have the 100 ft. borde in your tactic and that you seem to want the PS. If TelinArtho agrees that I played Gradak dumber than he is I'll make the edit. The reason why I want to hear from Telin is, Becaus I don't feel comfortable changing a interpretation decition without the consent of both players invovlet. oh an btw don't worry I don't take things personally (we all want a fair fight) |

Poison is a touch spell, and thus the charge on it cannot be held while casting other spells or touching items (such as scrolls). |
| McJarvis04-13-08, 05:19 PM | Poison is a touch spell, and thus the charge on it cannot be held while casting other spells or touching items (such as scrolls). While it is true you can not cast spells for sure- I think it would be better if we didn't open the can of worms that contains the "how much other stuff you can do" discussion. What if I designate my pinky to be the touching device for the spell & then merely handle the scroll dainty-like? No...I think it's better if we just assume infinite dexterity in this regard, else pitlords will constantly have to make judgement calls on just "how much you can touch" Or house-rule that you must keep one hand free to hold a touch spell. Either way. |
| Salrantol04-13-08, 06:34 PM | @Yitzi: Can I assume from the following line in the roller that you're waiting to hear from Callix about whether Blind Petyr will surrender?Petyr Fort save 1d20+5=13 |
| Yitzi04-13-08, 11:40 PM | Not anymore. I got it, and he did. The fight is up here. The maps don't show everyone-you've got too many allies. Just use the coordinates to try to get it. |
| Callix04-14-08, 02:51 AM | Poison is a touch spell, and thus the charge on it cannot be held while casting other spells or touching items (such as scrolls). In this case, I was intending to carry the charge on the bite attack. Howler's familiar Worm uses this quite often, though Worm doesn't have hands to carry a charge. If the spell must cover the entire body, why doesn't it immediately affect carried equipment? Still, I'll keep it in mind for future reference. As you'll notice, Ursula didn't actually hit with any physical attacks, so it didn't matter in the end. The buffs could be reordered with no fight-affecting results. |

No...I think it's better if we just assume infinite dexterity in this regard, else pitlords will constantly have to make judgement calls on just "how much you can touch" Or house-rule that you must keep one hand free to hold a touch spell. Either way. The problem is that both solutions you list contradict the rule: touching anything discharges the spell. To me the intent is clear: once you cast the spell, you can keep trying again and again to touch your target without penalty, but you can't prebuff a touch spell and then draw weapons, tie your shoelaces, pet your cat, etc. I don't see what's wrong with that. |

This has all been said before and will be said again- but by the strict rules all spells would be discharged immediately so long as you are touching anything. A strict reading of the rules is impossible, and a houserule is necessary either way. Since you can effectively discharge a touch spell with parts of your body that are not your hand(hands are never mentioned), I would say it's perfectly reasonable to say gladiators can hold whatever in their hands. |

[or unless I left in a relic of other sets of tactics I wrote, since at one point readying to cast fireball was in my mind...] Minaeu: 1) Wait until Thorell begins his attack sequence. 2) Scorching Ray[memory, cl6] is how Minaeu will break his invisibility. Wait until Korwald attacks Thorell- if it is a melee attack, scorching ray korwald's mount. If it is a range attack, scorching ray raelin. If none of these situations apply- go to 3). 3) fireball[memory, cl6] korwald's mount(& korwald too). If korwald's mount is dead, fireball raelen. If raelin is dead too, fireball korwald. 4) Start with magic missile from memory[cl6], then change to magic missile wand[cl1]. Magic missile korwald's mount until it is dead. If it is dead, magic missile raelin until he is dead. If both are already dead, skip this step. 5) Shocking grasp. Go shocking grasp korwald. Do this as many times as possible. 6) Feel pity for pitlord, draw crossbow & start firing away. I assumed that he wanted to cast either Scorching Ray or Fireball.. he already saw Korwald fly around some times and to cast a fireball it was better to ready one. I agree that it's not mentioned in the tactics and I probably made a mistake here. If lonewolf complains the readied fireball will be skipped. |
| TelinArtho04-14-08, 11:25 AM | @Turanson - rewards are off by a tiny bit for Gradak/Dentik: Dentik wins! and gains 1249,5 xp and 1332,8 gp Gradak loss! And gains 583,5 xp and 622+146,28 gp Dentik has 2 CR1 allies and a MaxCA of 3 - so he has a penalty of (2/3)*25% = 16.66667% Dentik gains 1500xp - 16.66667% = 1250xp. GP is 1.0666667gp/xp = 1333gp. Likewise, Gradak should gains 500xp +16.666667% = 583xp and 622gp. |

I agree that it's not mentioned in the tactics and I probably made a mistake here. If lonewolf complains the readied fireball will be skipped. Well- that was a list of things to do. So the intent was for minau to start off with a scorching ray, then do a fireball, then do magic missiles, then...etc, etc. the fireball worked out in our favor- but when I was writing the tactics I was trying to give the scorching ray the highest chance of hitting possible- against a flat-footed touch ac. I don't really want a change, though. I think the only thing this could result in is Minaeu being out 1 more spell & Korwald's hippogriff being killed for the rest of the cycle. [as it stands now I believe it gets healed] No reason to burn up resources when we have a perfectly legit outcome right now. |

When you have confidence that your opponent can't detect you until you make your first strike, you have a bit more leeway to make that first strike *extra* special. Korwald has CA 3 (1CR horse + 2 CR hippogriff) out of a max CA of 4[ecl6-2] But he's on a team, so average those over the team (CA 1.5 out of 4) So Thorell's rewards should be 1,800xp * (25% * 1.5/4) = 1968.75, shouldn't they? edit- and I think korwald's political career would help him, not ralein :) |

Breagor it's an heavy warhorse, which should have a CA of 2. Then, adding the 2 CR hippo, we get a CA of 4. | McJarvis04-15-08, 03:34 PM | TEDS vs Flutterthought is done. Went a bit quicker than I suspected- not buffing with touchsight until after seeing if you needed it ate the round of time you needed, MWB. |
| whitebaron04-15-08, 03:45 PM | As others have mentioned it wasn't me. Just thought I'd point out that even Elders can make mistakes and edit their sheet. For this reason my fight will be slightly late. Turanson has agreed to cut Telin some slack and allow the fight to be run despite the edit. well yeah - strange character names confuse me more than player names... orgauth/mekhoar... on second look, they are not that similar... but somehow... its an h where it does not belong and unusual syllable combinations... that's enough to confuse. ;) @mwb: well, his ac was higher for about half the fight, so he should have hit you a bit more often than you him. ;) |

That was a heck of a lot of buffing they dished out. Their rolls were favorable as well. I think even having put up Touchsight earlier wouldn't have earned me the win, though it would have been closer. |

Yea - that's a lot of Gold for that Win - But i figured we either had to buff with everything we had or we might as well surrender and as you know - i never give up without a fight. |
| McJarvis04-15-08, 06:42 PM | rewards are up |
| dulsi04-15-08, 09:57 PM | A net is thrown and hits. The attacker is still holding onto an end to restrict movement. What is the AC of the net for sunder purposes? Does the net wielder get AoO on the sunder attempt? (I know the AC issue has been mentioned before but I not sure what the result was.) |
| hogarth04-15-08, 10:45 PM | rewards are up 1) The rewards are slightly off; Snake-Eyes brought in 3 CR 1 allies and Merciful Killer brought in an ECL 4 ally so the penalty for each is (3/4 * 0.25 + 0.25)/2 = 21.875%. So their reward is 1406 xp, 1562.5 gp. Similarly, Flutterthought's bonus is 21.875% = 975 xp, 1381.25 gp. 2) You forgot to mention Snake-Eyes's Dissolving Weapon carries over to the next fight. |

The dissolving weapon is already on there. Will fix the rewards here in a second... |

Does the net wielder get AoO on the sunder attempt? (I know the AC issue has been mentioned before but I not sure what the result was.) 1) AoO - no. it is not like the other one would control/attend the net itself, he is merely holding a rope bound to it. 2) i always assumed the hitting was automatic. if i'm wrong you could say that it is a medium sized object (+-0) with 0 dex(-5), so AC 5, which is but 5% failure for almost all characters. |
| dulsi04-16-08, 07:48 AM | S'lertak vs. Nodens is done. I thought S'lertak was dead when he missed in round 7 but his high AC allowed him to grab a victory. @Turanson: Top of the character sheet says Nodens. History says Nordens. Since your email said Nordens I assume that is probably correct but you should probably clear that up. |
| Turanson04-16-08, 09:12 AM | @Dulsi: Thanks for the run a bad map and lower rolls.:( but close and clean fight makes it all good:) |
| TelinArtho04-16-08, 09:34 AM | Well - it probably wasn't as close as it first looks - dulsi - you forgot S'lertak's natural attacks. Once he is found, throw the net at him. If it misses, draw and throw another one. If either one hits, hold the line to restrict his movement and start attacking with the morningstar and bite until he's dead. If I fail the strength check to hold him in place, then add in another claw to the attack sequence as well. Obviously - no need to edit this in since he won anyway. |
| dulsi04-16-08, 10:38 AM | Well - it probably wasn't as close as it first looks - dulsi - you forgot S'lertak's natural attacks. "Ugly lizard scum doesn't understand how to fight like a skilled warrior. Their kind are nothing more than dumb animals," comments Orgauth. |
| TelinArtho04-16-08, 10:57 AM | Good to sssee that you have been revived from the lassst time we met - orc. S'lertak sneers at Orgauth, spitting his last word as if it were bile. |
