| Pitlords04-12-06, 06:37 PM | PAIRINGS DONE As you see, none of the miniquests have any moderators. I just could assign enough to run the arena fights, with our <max> hero DSugui already gaining a 6° stretch. If the questers can find questlords, they should write a PM to me but I will not assign a QL for the cost of an unlorded arena fight. This lack of pitlords needs special attention. I have little time during the next 2 weeks to do anything but I will think about some counter-measures after that. Credits will be assigned tomorow. |
| waywreth04-12-06, 06:39 PM | I'll pitlord a miniquest, assign whichever one you'd like. EDIT: I got a request! Please give me: Little Daisy (DSugui) miniquests for an advanced eagle ally: waywreth [Miniquest] Also I'd appreciate someone doing this one: Loquan Dar'ath (waywreth) miniquests to become a thrallherd: x [Miniquest] [Week 2] It's easy I promise! |
| MysticMonk200504-12-06, 06:43 PM | I'll take waywerth's miniquest. |
| Zevox04-12-06, 06:51 PM | Oooh, free building for the EHTC? Guess having our quests delayed won't hurt us so much after all  . Now, to just double-check to make sure I know which one we want... @ DSugui, Huan, Abyssal Stalker, & Captain Strong - Tactics for my four should be coming either tonight or tomorrow afternoon (probably one or two tonight, the rest tomorow). I can pretty much already predict the outcome of each though, and its not looking pretty from my end... Zevox |
| DSugui04-12-06, 07:14 PM | I am taking this: Loddick Saffrion (Erithmu) miniquests to join TLT @waywreth: I would appreciate if you could take Little Daisy's MQ @my gladiators: This week we have a holiday Friday, so the sooner you send me tactics, the better. If I get tactics early, I can run the fights on Friday, and maybe can take some more MQs. (I think I will need a vacation after this...) |
| lonewolf04-12-06, 07:18 PM | @Cat: Please add Samuel shopping on the ethereal plane as a full activity onto the roster. ty |
| waywreth04-12-06, 07:27 PM | I am taking this: Loddick Saffrion (Erithmu) miniquests to join TLT @waywreth: I would appreciate if you could take Little Daisy's MQ I'll take the MQ for Little Daisy. Expect it up either later tonight or early tomorrow morning. I can take another MQ as well should it be needed. |
| Huan04-12-06, 08:30 PM | Dracazar has come to me as QL for his miniquest and I will oblige; PM to Pitlords has been sent. I can also take on another of the Miniquests... no preference. |
| MindWandererB04-12-06, 08:33 PM | @Gonbow: Tactics for Sunstroke have been sent. I hope it turns out as fun as it looks from this end. Probably not. :D @Skojar: You would have my tactics, if your PM box had room for them. Please accomodate them. |
| graymocker04-12-06, 09:57 PM | Dracazar has come to me as QL for his miniquest and I will oblige; PM to Pitlords has been sent. I can also take on another of the Miniquests... no preference. Would you be so kind as to take mine? Koan (graymocker) miniquests to join WAR: x [Miniquest] Thanks |
| Turin04-12-06, 10:21 PM | Hm... well, I'd just dropped back down to pitlording one fight... but I'll take someone's Miniquest if we're still short. In addition to Kracknol (SauroGrenom) vs. Auburn (Vathelokai), which I'll still pitlord of course! Edit: see below |
| Zevox04-12-06, 10:58 PM | @ DSugui - Tactics for Istima Telarc's all vs all with Micah Ashald and Kramer have been sent. That should be an interesting one - two mounted combatants, two psionic combatants, and plenty of tricks available to the little Goblin (by which I mean two or three tricks which could produce some funny results). Plus its the first All vs All I've been in that I think I have a good shot at winning. If only the rest of my arena fights this week were thus... Zevox |
| graymocker04-12-06, 11:06 PM | Actually, I think I'll volunteer to pitlord a MQ too. It seems like a good way to get introduced to pitlording - of course, someone should probably let me know if this is not in fact the case. =P |
| NiQil04-12-06, 11:13 PM | @ StoneTree: Tactics for Famine sent via PM @ DSugui: Tactics for War sent via PM |
| DarthVegan04-12-06, 11:19 PM | @DSugui: Tactics for Micah for FFA against Kramer and Istima sent via PM. It doesn't look to good for noble Micah this week...those psionics are worse than those darn spellcasters! :weep: |
| DSugui04-12-06, 11:20 PM | @Zevox, NiQil, DarthVegan: Tactics received. |
| Erithmu04-12-06, 11:46 PM | @Huan: tactics for Sola sent via PM I would offer to do one of the MQ but you picked an insane week, so I am unable to help out. |
| DSugui04-13-06, 12:22 AM | @Pitlords: Little Daisy (DSugui) miniquests for an advanced eagle ally: x [Miniquest] Loddick Saffrion (Erithmu) miniquests to join TLT: Waywreth [Miniquest] Sorry, but this is not correct. I am taking Loddick MQ, and Waywreth is taking Daisy MQ. Thanks. @SauroGrenom: Tactics for Dronnar sent by PM @Gonbow: Tactics for Dronnar sent by email. @MysticMonk2005: Tactics for Valek sent by email |
| MysticMonk200504-13-06, 07:04 AM | @DSugui: Tactics recieved. @StoneTree & SauroGrenom: Tactics for Tueor and Lissa sent via PM. |
| Dracazar04-13-06, 08:20 AM | @DSugui: Quesis's tactic sent @Lonewolf: Uilo's tactic sent @Erithmu: Shaz's tactic sent @Huan: Dracazar is questing, I'm waiting your thread |
| Turin04-13-06, 09:59 AM | @ Abyssal Stalker: tactics for Sir Alboreth (Zevox) vs. Hexacious Pogboomer (Turin) have been sent. @ Vath/Sauro: I'm fine with doing a seperate thread. I'll set it up in a bit, and if you two want to PM me with the "final terms" of your challenge, I'll get those in there and we can start. Edit: this may be a bit more work for me... because no one has asked yet, I'll withdraw my offer to pitlord someone's miniquest. Edit #2: okay, Vath & Sauro, you guys are set up and ready to go... I eagerly await your starting positions & first round tactics. |
| Pittbull04-13-06, 11:12 AM | @Gonbow: Tactics for KazzzAHM vs Dronnar have been sent via E-Mail to you. Thanks for running the fight. |
| Biota04-13-06, 11:22 AM | @Gonbow Tactics for Sappho sent. If anyone wants to take Elzar the Affable's miniquest for an Ogre ally I'd appreciate it. Haven't received any tactics for my fight yet. Biota |
| waywreth04-13-06, 11:50 AM | @Erithmu - Tactics for Gaston in Shaz Greatheart (Dracazar) vs. Gaston Dar'ath (waywreth) sent via PM |
| Sunwolf04-13-06, 02:19 PM | @Lonewolf Tactics for Leif in FFA sent by PM |
| SoulLord04-13-06, 02:23 PM | @saurogreenon tactics for vandelar the red vs lisa longfellow have ben sent by pm |
| Anaconda04-13-06, 02:24 PM | I'll take the miniquest: Jam Master Jay (Greezer) miniquests for a howler: x [Miniquest] [Week 3] |
| Zevox04-13-06, 04:01 PM | @ Abyssal Stalker - Tactics for Sir Alboreth (vs Dr Hexacious Pogboomer) have been PMed. Congratulations to Turin on his win. I'm sure he won't mind taking out his defeat by Eraca on one of my other characters. @ CaptainStrong - Tactics for Featylec Elendi (vs Enoch the Prophet) have been PMed. Congratulations to Salrantol on his win. This one should be pretty cut-and-dry unless Featylec gets some incredible rolls (which is not something hes known for). @ Huan - Tactics for Archdevil Asran (vs Sola Nicous) have been PMed. This is the only one of these three fights I think I have shot at, though it could easily go either way. Should be an interesting one to see the results of. @ Gonbow & LongArcher - I'm awaiting tactics for Tatyana and Archie. I'll probably run this Saturday or Sunday, so you've plenty of time, but please don't wait too long. Zevox |
| LongArcher04-14-06, 01:30 AM | @ Gonbow & LongArcher - I'm awaiting tactics for Tatyana and Archie. I'll probably run this Saturday or Sunday, so you've plenty of time, but please don't wait too long. Zevox Archie's tactics are in. *<crosses fingers>* I am going to try something weird and new now that I am 5th level. So, here's hoping for a little luck to keep the streak alive. Amz |
| Gonbow04-14-06, 01:36 AM | Archie's tactics are in. *<crosses fingers>* I am going to try something weird and new now that I am 5th level. So, here's hoping for a little luck to keep the streak alive. Amz Wierd and new eh? Well, we shall see; my tactics were rather expecting something staid. |
| Ravashack04-14-06, 03:00 AM | Skojar still has not emptied his mailbox. As I do not know if I will wake up in time for the deadline, I am forwarding Perius's tactics to the Pitlords account. |
| Pitlords04-14-06, 05:04 AM | @Perius: I can't do more than you. Credit Changes: +6: DSugui +5: Lonewolf, Caterane +4: Erithmu, Huan +3: SauroGrenom, Vathelokai +2: Gonbow, Mysticmonk, Stonetree, Turin, Mindwanderer, Myrridin, NiQil +1: Abyssal Stalker, Biota, CptStrong, Skojar, Stormwind, Waywreth +0: Zevox -1: Sindorin, Magister -2: KingUther, Dracazar These miniquests are without Pitlord: Captain Sissay (Greezer) miniquests to join EHTC: x [Miniquest] [Week 3] Elzar the Affable (Biota) miniquests for an ogre ally: x [Miniquest] Koan (graymocker) miniquests to join WAR: x [Miniquest] Amras (funnymanmike) vs. Raw (Anaconda) : x [Week 2] |
| Argaud04-14-06, 06:50 AM | Credit Changes: +6: DSugui +5: Lonewolf, Caterane +4: Erithmu, Huan +3: SauroGrenom, Vathelokai +2: Gonbow, Mysticmonk, Stonetree, Turin, Mindwanderer, Myrridin, NiQil +1: Abyssal Stalker, Biota, CptStrong, Skojar, Stormwind, Waywreth +0: Zevox -1: Sindorin, Magister -2: KingUther, Dracazar Shouldn't I have a -4 there? I activated an ECL4 character. @StoneTree- tactics for Gorgul sent @MindWandererB - tactics for Korinel sent |
| Zevox04-14-06, 08:53 AM | @ Gonbow & LongArcher - Tactics for Tatyana and Archie recieved. @ Argaud - That just includes a summary of credits for pitlording/questlording/campaignlording, board administration, quest or campaign expenditure, or extra character activations (i.e. setting more than 2 characters to ready). Anything else (black market usages, character changes, activating higher-level characters, etc) gets deducted when it happens and isn't included there. Zevox |
| lonewolf04-14-06, 09:39 AM | @DSugui: tactics for Finrod sent. |
| DSugui04-14-06, 10:22 AM | Received tactics for all my gladiators except Danidus. I will start to run one fight now, maybe another tonight. |
| MindWandererB04-14-06, 12:24 PM | @Ravashack and Pitlords: Skojar still has a full PM box, which is not surprising because he hasn't logged in to his account for almost a week. With less than 5 hours remaining before tactics deadline, I think Skojar's fights are going to have to be reassigned and Skojar taken off the active pitlord list until he shows up again. This is especially true for his other fight, because it's a monster fight and Ariel23 needs a monster description to come up with tactics. Can someone else volunteer to do those two fights? Ordinarily I would, but a) one's my fight, b) the other one's a monster fight and I don't own a 3.5 DMG, so I'd need someone else to post the monster anyway, and c) I'm running Tan this week, and we all know how that is. @Argaud: tactics received. Hopefully Korinel redeems himself this week. I'll run it as soon as I get Book5's tactics. |
| Abyssal Stalker04-14-06, 01:44 PM | Credit Changes: +6: DSugui +5: Lonewolf, Caterane +4: Erithmu, Huan +3: SauroGrenom, Vathelokai +2: Gonbow, Mysticmonk, Stonetree, Turin, Mindwanderer, Myrridin, NiQil +1: Abyssal Stalker, Biota, CptStrong, Skojar, Stormwind, Waywreth +0: Zevox -1: Sindorin, Magister -2: KingUther, Dracazar Shouldn't I be getting +2? I ran two fights, the first was assigned to me originally and the second I took to help lonewolf out! |
| Erithmu04-14-06, 01:45 PM | Shaz vs Gaston is up The dice hated everyone ... only one person was making rolls though. |
| Argaud04-14-06, 01:54 PM | This is especially true for his other fight, because it's a monster fight and Ariel23 needs a monster description to come up with tactics. Can someone else volunteer to do those two fights? Ordinarily I would, but a) one's my fight, b) the other one's a monster fight and I don't own a 3.5 DMG, so I'd need someone else to post the monster anyway, and c) I'm running Tan this week, and we all know how that is. I will take the monster fight if Ariel is okay, those are usually short and sweet and won't cause me much further brain damage. What is wrong with Tan? Dog horde? |
| Dracazar04-14-06, 02:22 PM | Shaz vs Gaston is up The dice hated everyone ... only one person was making rolls though. Shaz d20: 6 rolls, 2.7 average Sequence: 2, 4, 2, 2, 5, 1 NO COMMENT |
| Erithmu04-14-06, 02:32 PM | NO COMMENT I think you and your dice roller need to have a long talk. |
| MindWandererB04-14-06, 02:32 PM | NO COMMENTThat... sucks. It really, really sucks. You had better than a 50/50 chance at each one of those rolls. It's one thing when your dice fail you at a couple of key moments; it's another when they won't roll above a 5 for a whole fight (that lasts more than 1 round, anyway). I think you and your dice roller need to have a long talk.LOL! It even crossed my mind to wonder how "random" that roller is--I remember I did a class project once on random number generators, and all the ones I tested had some moderate biases in them--but if anyone would know, it's the one who coded it. Maybe you should filter the existing random generator through another random algorithm? It's probably just a salience effect (we don't notice when it's working properly, only the anomalies like this), but still, there have been quite a few sprees of 1's and 20's in the fights I've run. What is wrong with Tan? Dog horde?Dog horde. |
| waywreth04-14-06, 02:39 PM | Shaz vs Gaston is up The dice hated everyone ... only one person was making rolls though. @Erithum - I'm curious why you were befuddled? Gaston (who's male for the record) couldn't win by straight nuking due to Shaz's nasty vigor/wild surge technique. Thanks for running it. Dice kharma was on my side this time. |
| DSugui04-14-06, 02:48 PM | Leets Mezeb (ViezeFurr) vs. Jindl Mohjerx (barrel_master) is up HERE Short fight, no surprises. |
| Zevox04-14-06, 02:49 PM | Shouldn't I be getting +2? I ran two fights, the first was assigned to me originally and the second I took to help lonewolf out! Thats this week's credits break down. Taking over Lonewolf's fight last week doesn't get listed there. there have been quite a few sprees of 1's and 20's in the fights I've run. I've seen those myself. The string of natural 20s Jonathan got in his fight with Kitaya for instance, or all the 20s Featylec ran face-first into on his quest a couple of weeks ago when it was the only way he could be hit, or the two confirmed criticals Sir Alboreth got in his fight with Ba'al two weeks ago when forced into an archery duel (where he should have had a massive disadvantage). Painful. Zevox |
| Mal-204-14-06, 03:09 PM | @Lonewolf: Donak's tactics for his free for all (finally) sent via PM. Sorry I didn't get them to you earlier. |
| Dracazar04-14-06, 03:24 PM | That... sucks. It really, really sucks. You had better than a 50/50 chance at each one of those rolls. It's one thing when your dice fail you at a couple of key moments; it's another when they won't roll above a 5 for a whole fight (that lasts more than 1 round, anyway). LOL! It's probably just a salience effect (we don't notice when it's working properly, only the anomalies like this), but still, there have been quite a few sprees of 1's and 20's in the fights I've run. Dog horde. That ****** dice roller hates me! :D This is the core code cut: // Roll function roll($dice) { // Since PHP 4.2.0 it's no longer necessary to seed the random number generator before using it $roll = mt_rand(1, $dice); return $roll; } // roll and mt_rand infos are here (http://www.math.sci.hiroshima-u.ac.jp/~m-mat/MT/emt.html) @Erithum - I'm curious why you were befuddled? Gaston (who's male for the record) couldn't win by straight nuking due to Shaz's nasty vigor/wild surge technique. I'm thinking to challenge Gaston with Shaz next week :) |
| Abyssal Stalker04-14-06, 03:52 PM | Thats this week's credits break down. Taking over Lonewolf's fight last week doesn't get listed there. Oh, my fault. Thanks! I've seen those myself. The string of natural 20s Jonathan got in his fight with Kitaya for instance That was pretty amazing :) On the other hand, real life dice aren't random either. I've seen rolled four 20's a row, which is something like 1:160000! |
| Abyssal Stalker04-14-06, 03:53 PM | DOUBLE POST |
| Usurpator04-14-06, 04:43 PM | @Biota: send tactics for Flamehair |
| MindWandererB04-14-06, 05:02 PM | Tactics deadline is up, which means two things for me: Tan vs. Argaud will be run using Tan's default tactics. Which are not half bad, really. I think Skojar can be officially declared MIA, which means I need someone to pick up his fight. I know that no one really wants to do this until they know how their existing fights are, but can anyone predict that they'll have time? |
| Ariel2304-14-06, 05:17 PM | I will take the monster fight if Ariel is okay, those are usually short and sweet and won't cause me much further brain damage. I did receive a PM from Skojar about the monster fight, he just didn't have time to get to it, but he still wants to do it. Well, this has been 4 days, but still... He usually does his fights on Mondays (which is when he PMd me), I guess due to work/gaming/social life considerations. I wouldn't necessarily dump him right away. My tactics would only marginally change with a monster description, if at all. They are fine as written. They may not work great against something ethereal, but that's the business. I think pretty much every PL has had something come up at one time or another. However, rather than post (the usual method), he contacted me directly and I told him I couldn't care less if the fight was held over a week as long as he didn't mind losing 1 credit. The most annoying thing to me about the PM box is not the limit of 20, but the default to "Save a Copy" and no way to turn that off. |
| Erithmu04-14-06, 05:22 PM | Aerryl Nalladar (MindWandererB) vs. Perius (Ravashack) : SkojarErithmu @MWB and Rav: sooner the better last chance will be tomorrow afternoon 1pm Pac Std Time @Pitlords: If you still have perius' tactics could you forward them if you see this before he does. @Airel23: I was going to take the monster fight and do it today, but that is your call to let Skojar do it. |
| Ravashack04-14-06, 05:51 PM | Aerryl Nalladar (MindWandererB) vs. Forwarded to you. Thanks for taking the fight. |
| SauroGrenom04-14-06, 07:22 PM | Lissa vs Vandelar the Red is up and finished. That was an increadible stroke of luck as you shall see. |
| MindWandererB04-14-06, 08:35 PM | Tan (Book5) vs Korinel (Argaud) is up. Tan managed to taunt Korinel for 33 consecutive rounds before someone won. @Erithmu: Thanks! Tactics have been sent. |
| Salrantol04-14-06, 10:35 PM | @CaptainStrong: Some questions about the Featylec vs. Enoch fight. 1) You have Featylec's touch AC at 20, whereas the character sheet lists 16 (when Dodging). Why? 2) You have Enoch's AC at 19 with Shield, when my math says 22 (24 with shield of faith), which negates the first critical. Why? 3) "Attack him from range as long as I can figure out where he is." Melee?? Also, when you have Enoch engage in melee, you did not use inflict moderate wounds as the tactics would seem to indicate. Why???? 4) Autohypnosis was not used to retain consciousness after attacking at 0 hp. Why? |
| Zevox04-14-06, 10:55 PM | Tatyana (Gonbow) vs. Archie Longbow (LongArcher) : Zevox Unfortunately I will not be able to run this. I just got back from work having found out what my schedule is for the rest of the weekend and next week, and, well, lets just say that between that and my homework load (last week of college before finals) I'll have absolutely no time for pitlording this week. The best I could do is run the fight tuesday night and wednesday morning, and honestly not only is that a stretch for me but I think the players deserve better than that if possible. I'll post the tactics here and if anyone wants to take the fight, I'd be greatly appreciative. Heya; as this is a caster vs caster I apologize in advance for the length of the tactics. Alter self notes: If he changes into a mephit, he changes size, while his equipment does not. Thusly, he cannot use his greatsword or longbow (2h weapons for a Medium) while in mephit shape. Synopsis: Start off strong, lure him into pointy death if possible, if not just blast him to pieces. If aggressive start cannot be obtained, buff and hide, then hit him from hiding. Starting position: Front and center of starting square. Starting equipment: Detection stone in left hand, Buffing Stone B in right hand. Equipment from home: Bring in the six collossal crossbow bolts, the sling and the sling stones. The bolts will be at my feet rather than carried. Lucky Tatyana: I'll have LOS r1. If so, ready to blast him (action) with Energy Missle Cold (aug'd to 6 pp) as soon as he is about to cast a spell/move out of LOS/move out of spell range (triggers), range is 160'. If I have LOS but he is somehow further away than the range, close before readying. If he is further way than I can close and still hit him, close, then ready to manifest it on him (action) as soon as he comes within range (trigger). The missile will do 6d6+6 damage, -5 from his resistance and be a DC 21 fortitude save. That's an average of 18.5 damage, which means he's already almost dead! Now, if he does a series of actions as I can identify as NOT being resist energy (Mirror Image, Scorching Ray, Acid Arrow, just move, Alter self), hit him with an identical energy missile and the match should be over. If he casts a spell with no apparent effect, hit him with a Energy Missile Fire (6 pp), which is identical aside from being a DC 21 reflex save. If he's still alive after this, switch to Electricity (6d6 -5, reflex DC of 23). If during this process I am in danger of dying before he is (doubtful, but possible if he runs away), manifest Vigor (+25 hp) from the powerstone. Unlucky Tatyana: No 1st turn LOS. Bummer. Move 20' to the left, to get within the shelter of the pillars and tap the tattoo of chameleon (Hide bonus becomes +17, +distance modifer). Archie's elevation should be relevant to wether or not Tatyana has cover vis a vis him as the pillars go all the way to the ceiling. Now with some buffing, manifest Vigor from the powerstone (Use concentration to conceal display, DC is 16, power still manifests if I fail). Then it's time for waiting and sniping. Since sniping is a full-round action, Tatyana cannot ready to do it, so will just have to wait. If it's round 8+ and I haven't seen him, or have heard him in an area where I SHOULD be able to see him, manifest Touchsight from the Powerstone (concentration to conceal display, DC is 18, same as before), then move towards where I last heard him, readying to blast him as per LOS Tatyana above. Assuming he flies around at some point, Tatyana will snipe him with Energy Missile Cold (-20 hide, so Tatyana's hide will be -3 +distance bonuses), with other powers being used in various situations as per LOS Tatyana. While this seems odd, it is an Elder ruling that you can snipe with powers; otherwise I could just manifest on him with no penalty to my hide at all. (See this fight) Well with the easy stuff out of the way, it's time to go to contingencies. Psicrystal: Kannonji will remain on Tatyana's shoulder for the duration of the fight. If Tatyana has to make a concentration check (or any other check he can assist on), he will do so (DC of 10, gives a +2 bonus), if she doesn't have to, he will make two active listen/spot checks instead. Unless of course he is in LOS, in which case Kannonji will just chill. Archie approaches within 60' of my pile of crossbow bolts: Manifest Telekinetic thrust, flinging the lot of them at him. They do damage as per Daggers of their size, and Collosal daggers happen to do 1d4 -> 1d6 -> 1d8 -> 2d6 -> 3d6 points of damage each. The attack bonus will be +9 (+3 bab, +6 intelligence) Archie has mirror image up: Hit every image with Energy Missile. I get up to five of them, after all. Archie is casting magic missile at me: Pretend to be injured, continue killing him. Bwahaha. Archie has his Familiar near by him: Hit it with the energy missle too. Archie is invisible: Turn on the touchsight, ready to blast him as soon as I percieve him. Archie is shooting me with arrows to disrupt my casting: Make concentration checks and laugh when he dies. Bwahaha. Tatyana runs out of PP: Get out the Stone of Destruction and use that on him. Same logic for selection of energy type as before. If that runs out, use sling + psionic shot on him. Extra expendable use: Go hog wild. I don't care how much money I burn through to win this fight. If Tatyana cant have a perfect record, no one can! Begin in back row to the the left (with pillar as cover to avoid any LOS first round). Enter with scroll of alter self in hand. Spotter (my hawk) will begin front and center, keeping an eye out for me, letting me know if he sees anything first round. All spells are via scrolls unless otherwise stated. I have two sets of long range spells…please keep my distance from Tatyana’s medium/short range spells Buffing: Cast alter self (from scroll, turning into an Ice Mephit (+5 nat AC, +1 size AC, +1 size to hit, 50’ perfect flight etc…) and fly to ceiling. Spotter will continue to fly around until he spots Tatyana. If he does, he’ll keep a circling watch 30’ away, up to the ceiling, which should equal to about 70’ if Tatyana is at ground level. If she’s levitated to the ceiling, Spotter will let me know this as well, and will maintain a 50’ distance. Spotter can also make spellcraft checks and will alert me of psionics used by Tatyana. Espcially adaptation acid/fire. Or conversely if I also hear her cast, make the appropriate spellcraft check. Remember once spotted, she will not be able to hide unless she has a way to make a mist or fog and I don’t see anyway of her doing that. I cannot open her Draw and cast mirror image and spectral hand. Spotter will keep an eye on her, continuing to circle her. If I cannot see her (or Spotter), draw/cast false life while Spotter continues to circle around to look for her. If Spotter sees her and I can move and fireball do so. If I cannot move and fireball, but can move and shocking graps (ensure I have cover as well if possible), then do so. Once I do see her though, make a spellcraft check and follow the guide below. If I can see her, make a spellcraft check to determine what active effects she has on her. If I don’t detect that she has adaptation fire, cast a fireball. If I do, then hit her with a targeted dispel magic. This is very important as her weapons (held or not) are also considered part of her (as per rules) and they may also get dispelled of any special effects that may be upon them. If she recasts adaptation: fire afterwards, then hit her with a melf’s acid arrow unless she was adapted to acid…which if she was, strike out with shocking grasp from memory (5d6, don’t forget my height +1, +2 spell bonus of spectral hand, +1 size bonus). If I still cannot see her after buffing with false life, endurance, vigor, see invis. If I still cannot see her (or listen to within 10’), cast obscuring mist and move to the edge to the point were I can see out, but she cannot see in…so basically the last 5’, as that will give her 10’ of fog to few through and me just 5’. Begin circling around that rim of mist to try and find her while Spotter also continues to circle a path that is between the central pillar and the front-center of starting positions. This will give Spotter lots of areas to see for very long distances and could easily auto-spot Tatyana should she stray from cover. Offence: If I have gone more than 5 rounds without initiating combat (ie. I’m pretty much fully buffed, and circling my mist), when I do spot her, make a spellcraft check to see what buffs she has on. If I cannot discern she is protected from either fire or acid, just tag her with a targeted dispel. Being 10’ into the mist (100% concealment for me (50/50), and partial concealment for him (20% miss chance). As you know I do no require an attack roll and suffer no miss chance for my targeted dispel, duh. After casting the targeted dispel, take a 5’ step back into the mist…100% for both of us and no chance to pin point me. Move to the 10’ mark next round and cast a fireball at her, unless I (or Spotter) hears her put up adaptation: fire again, in which case I would just move 5’ more feet (20% miss chance for her, none for me), and strike out with a shocking grasp (from memory, 5d6). If she didn’t protect herself from fire, hit her with another fireball and again, make a 5’ step back for total concealment and untargetability. I have never had you as a pitlord and have not read any fights you have managed so the sequence goes as this - fireball, 5’ step back, draw scroll fireball. 5’ step forward, fireball, draw scroll, fireball, step 5’ back, etc (assuming he’s not protected by fire of course)… I’m sure you get the picture. Once that is done, or she has re-protected herself from fire, use shocking grasp from memory. Once I have been reduced to 1 image (2 of us), then recast mirror image from memory. If reduced to 25% of my health, and I still have obscuring mist available to me, either cast it, or flee to it asap, to avoid any detection. Drink my potion, or if I have not already cast false life, endurance, vigor, cast them all now from the safety of my mist. Remember, it is a 20’ radius and that includes underneath me while I am flying. A quick sample of offensive spells should look like this: Fireball, fireball, shocking grasp, shocking grasp, acid arrow, acid arrow. Please note, that I have perfect flight and can easily move almost anywhere to deny Tatyana cover to make it easier to strike. Ensure fireballs land in areas past her cover so she does not gain any reflex save bonus. Specials: If by some miracle she is able to spot me on first round, which means she had no time to cast any protective spells, cast mirror image first, then (spellcraft dependant) fireball her. Again, in the event she protected herself from fire after I cast mirror image at this point, simply smack her with melf’s twice, then shocking grasp twice. Please remember her telek thrust is targeted and needs to choose the proper image. Hopefully with a bit of luck I can pull this off. I am looking for a quick assault and keep the pressure on Tatyana forcing her into a defensive role. Summary of a perfect fight? - alterself, mirror image, fireball, fireball. lol Amz @ CaptainStrong - Likewise a query about Featylec vs Enoch - why didn't Featylec go total defense when Enoch started tossing flames? That was right in my tactics. With the correction of his touch AC from 20 to 16 this means avoiding a hit from the flame (since the dodge bonus brings his touch AC to 22, the roll of 18 will then still miss), not to mention it means Enoch won't need to heal since the bow shots while he tossing flames won't happen, so it'll be important for an edit. | NiQil04-15-06, 01:34 AM | Unfortunately I will not be able to run this. Zevox I wanted to point out to whoever picks this fight up...after reading both sets of tactics, I see a rather large problem that, unfortunately, can no longer be rectified since the tactics are now public. As far as I know, Spellcraft does not supply information about psionics, and Psicraft does not supply information about magic. Transparancy does not cause the two to cross....just like Use Magic Device does not cross with Use Psionic Device. This is something that should have been discussed via PM prior to the battle, because it appears a large portion of Archie's tactics are based on the perceived transparancy of the two skills that does not actually exist. (No shot at you here, Zevox....stuff happens...). Maybe I am interpreting the tactics incorrectly...but that is the impression I get. |

That would be the result of me not reading over the tactics immediately upon recieving them. I just got Archie's today (well, now yesterday technically from my time zone), and didn't go over them before going to work, and obviously after returning it seemed to me that it was pointless to do so since I'd be unable to run the battle anyway. My apologies to LongArcher for that screw up - hopefully it doesn't hurt things for you too much. Zevox |
| CaptainStrong04-15-06, 09:18 AM | @CaptainStrong: Some questions about the Featylec vs. Why? Alrighty, here we go. 1) He was in cover. Thus, his touch AC is 16 (with dodge) + 4 (cover) = 20. 2) AHA! You know what? After negating the dex for the first attack, I forgot to add it back on. Sorry about that. Will fix. 3) Your ranged attacks were all used up. Produce flame expired, and neither your equipment nor your attacks section lists an alternate ranged weapon. Looking now, I notice that you have scrolls of Produce Flame, but I'm not in the habit of using many expendables without being told, lest I get stabbed in the night. But it does make more sense. 4) I didn't notice that in your tactics, or if they weren't in there, on your character sheet. I will change that. (FAKE EDIT:) I'm changing Enoch's AC that I messed up. To avoid redoing half the fight (I have to work soon, plus yardword that my dad wants me to do), I had Enoch do the scroll of restoration thing to bring himself back up to 28/29 HP. I hope this isn't a big deal. Enoch, instead of moving to melee, will draw a scroll of produce flame. |
| Zevox04-15-06, 09:37 AM | Featylec has cover? Well well, that makes the total defense all the more important - it negates the one hit from the flames that Enoch does get, and means he can only hit Featylec on a natural 20 (total touch AC will be 26). Please do put that in with the edit! Zevox |
| Zevox04-15-06, 10:27 AM | @ CaptainStrong - I see the edit is up. I really must ask: Why was my contingency to go total defense if Enoch tossed produce flames ignored (after I pointed it out here too)? Using it negates his hits in rounds 13 and 17, meaning Featylec is still alive (and Enoch is going to run out of scrolls eventually, and melee clearly favors Featylec - edit: even more so than I thought, since Enoch has used all his spell levels and can't use the inflict spell he wanted to). If you insist on ignoring it, why not at least use my healing contingency? I asked to heal with my wand to 18+ hp if Featylec fell to 13 hp or less unless using total defense vs flames, yet Featylec did nothing of the sort. This could drastically alter the fight even if you don't want to put in the total defense. Zevox |

Er, total defense would mean no attacking. Its a standard action that would boost Featylec's touch AC by +6 (dodge bonus), not an attack at a lower bonus for an AC boost (thats fighting defensively, which would raise my AC by +3). That was the whole point of my asking to use it in my tactics in the first place was to force him to waste his flame tosses vs a huge touch AC since the spell was so deadly. Zevox |
| CaptainStrong04-15-06, 12:04 PM | Ah, okay. Sorry. Well, I redid the fight, and Elendi is now the winner. After a bout of bad luck for Enoch, I just had him charge. The thing is that although Enoch can do 1d6+3 damage per round (if he's lucky) for 3 rounds, Elendi can heal 1d8+1 per round for 40+ rounds. I hope everyone is satisfied. |
| Abyssal Stalker04-15-06, 12:17 PM | Hexacious vs Alboreth is done (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8941848&postcount=537). It's messy, I know. I made a mistake in an early phase and noticed it late. |
| Zevox04-15-06, 12:44 PM | Wait... you mean Alboreth actually won his fight? In spite of Hexacious' scorching rays and color sprays? That mass hp he gets must count for more than I thought. Aside from the obviously confusing rolls (not holding it against you Abyssal, these things happen) it looks fine except for one thing: Alboreth did use one charge of Vigor and Biofeedback from his powerstones, which should be in the wrap-up. And for Featylec vs Enoch - looks a lot better now. Even if Enoch had kept tossing flames Featylec's healing could likely have negated the hits, and I can understand not wanting to use too many of his scrolls without permission. Thanks for running it. I'll wait to see if Salrantol has any other objections before updating Featylec, but I'm okay with it now that the healing contingency at least is in. Zevox |

I made a mistake in an early phase and noticed it late.My only complaint is that you forgot to add +1d6 sneak attack damage for all the Doctor's successful ray attacks against Alboreth when he was stunned. However, as it turns out, even if each of these did maximum additional damage to Alboreth, my opponent still would have won (just barely). I neglected to take into consideration biofeedback... I should have opted to use the second scroll of scorching ray... it would have pulled this off for me. Congradulations to Zevox on the win... the old adage about "when both opponents think they are going to lose, they're both right" applies here! Edit: as much as I'd like to save on expendibles... you missed the scroll of scorching ray I used in the fights results section. |

One thing I'm quite sure, is that it'll probably cost more to both combatants. I'll fix the expendables and check the other things later unless you both agree that it should stay the way it is? |

| lonewolf04-15-06, 01:31 PM | What is the current ruling how summons/allies react if their master dies in a FFA? Do they follow their old orders even if their master is down, or do they stop? |
| Zevox04-15-06, 01:39 PM | What is the current ruling how summons/allies react if their master dies in a FFA? Do they follow their old orders even if their master is down, or do they stop? Well, normal allies will generally continue following thier last order (typically with animals this is the defend trick kicking in or attacking the last target they were told to, I'd presume intlligent allies would be capable of adapting on thier on too). Some fights have been won by allies killing the enemy after their master falls unconscious actually. At least thats the way it is for 1-on-1 matches, and I don't see why it would be different for FFAs. For summons I'd presume they'd do the same, unless the spell ends when thier master dies (not sure on that one). Zevox |

In a 1on1 fight, the fight would be over, but in a FFA that is not the case... *shrugs* Like I said, I don't see why the ruling would change. They're still there, they still remember thier orders. I suppose an intilligent ally may realize continuing is now pointless since they can't win anyway, but certainly I'd rule that animals and nonintelligent summons continue fighting based on their last orders (again, if the summons don't vanish, I'm not sure of that). They after all don't necessarily understand that the arena fight is about winning rather than survival. Zevox |

Sir Alboreth's tactics said to use the healing wand if his hps drop below 20, and that would be the case if the sneak attacks are counted in. In that case it would turn into a Magic Missile vs Cure Light Wounds -match where the odds are on Alboreth (3.5 vs 5.5) and eventually he would get his melee attack. I'll leave the fight the way it is now. |
| Turin04-15-06, 02:19 PM | I was just thinking a bit further. At this point, waste him with my crossbow until I'm out of bolts (no point in wasting charges against that wand of his), and then... I dunno, grapple him or something.Na... I already figured for that! :D |
| Ravashack04-15-06, 03:24 PM | Heheh. After looking at your tactics MindWandererB, something you should realize: Wild Surges don't allow you to pay less than the base PP cost. Ego Whip will ALWAYS cost at least 3 PP no matter how many levels are surged onto it. Wild Surges can only pay for augmentation costs. |
| lonewolf04-15-06, 04:23 PM | I´d like a neutral opinion on this: If character A casts Blacklight, is it ok for me as a pitlord to have character B use the daylight ability of the Hand of Glory to dispel the blacklight, even if this is not written in the tactics? |
| NiQil04-15-06, 04:28 PM | I´d like a neutral opinion on this: If character A casts Blacklight, is it ok for me as a pitlord to have character B use the daylight ability of the Hand of Glory to dispel the blacklight, even if this is not written in the tactics? This would be one of those circumstances where I would say play the character. Since the daylight ability is not an expendable item, there is no risk involved of costing the player money by improvising, so a smart character would probably do it, while a dumb character probably would not. At the same time, however, not mentioning it in tactics anywhere and still having it done could be construed as favoring one side with improv more than the other. What I would probably recommend is to roll an Int or Wis check at a DC you set to think of the option to use the HoG daylight ability...let the dice decide if the character remembers. That way it's not your decision, but rather the will of the dice. |

I would say, roll a Spellcraft check for that if character B against DC 23 (to recognize the effects of Blacklight) to remember that they can dispel the Blacklight with Daylight. If they don't make it, then no. And next time the person will remember to put it in their tactics. |

If they don't make it, then no. And next time the person will remember to put it in their tactics. Shrug. In a free-for-all versus two 7th level spell casters with full loadouts of scrolls, I'm not going to write specific spell-by-spell tactics. If that penalizes me in the arena, I guess I can live with that. |
| MindWandererB04-15-06, 04:52 PM | Heheh. After looking at your tactics MindWandererB, something you should realize: Wild Surges don't allow you to pay less than the base PP cost. Ego Whip will ALWAYS cost at least 3 PP no matter how many levels are surged onto it. Wild Surges can only pay for augmentation costs.Ah, you are correct. But it made no difference in my tactics; that line originally read "Perius can potentially do up to 6d4 Cha damage, which is more than enough...." Although, in retrospect, I should have paid a bit more attention to ranged combat strategies (Bolt+Off. Precog makes for a pretty sweet attack bonus, as long as you don't evervate on either 15% chance--I should have led with Barkskin). Hopefully Perius gets eaten by hippogriffs before I have to challenge him directly. |
| Erithmu04-15-06, 05:00 PM | Speaking of Hippogriffs: Aerryl vs Perius is up And you need some new ones. |
| MindWandererB04-15-06, 05:11 PM | Speaking of Hippogriffs: Aerryl vs Perius is up And you need some new ones. Damn straight I do. There's going to be some hippo layoffs tonight! But seriously, that was some heavy-duty turtling going on there. I'll have to remember to specify to stagger summons in the future, so that turtling will result in a delay penalty. There were a few tiny, tiny issues that don't need addressing. Perius intended to spend 7PP on his Bolt and Off. Precog plus the surge, for an effective 10 PP and +4 bonuses on each. Since he only made one attack, that would bring it up to AC 23, just one point short of hitting. I'm not sure about that Demoralize, but it didn't matter; I think you did fine by casting both SNAIII's at once. Finally, there should have been an Entangle before attacking in the end, but all that would do is give Perius one extra round. |

| lonewolf04-15-06, 05:45 PM | Uilo vs. Leif vs. Donak is up btw: I still have no tactics from Stonetree for Cornalius (StoneTree) vs. Rinzwind (Anaconda) : Lonewolf If I dont get any tactics by tomorrow I will use default tactics. |
| Mal-204-15-06, 05:53 PM | @Mal-2: Donak should have one additional power known. 2 from Warmind and 1 from Wilder. Donak doesn't have a high enough charisma to get a spell for his Wilder level. His levels were very poorly planned -- I originally thought Slayer got Know(Psionics) as a class skill, and was going to use that to qualify for War Mind. It doesn't though, so I had to dip into Wilder instead. |
| Ravashack04-15-06, 06:01 PM | @Ravashack: my bad.... for some reason I though you were still lvl when I did that ... which was late, late, no caffine late last night @MindwandererB: I probably would have had Perius fight defensively if there was only one, even then the hippo would have needed to roll 20s vs AC 26 He should have been fighting defensively with the crossbow as well once the hippogriffs were gone to raise his AC since his HPs were low (would have caused the flames to both miss I think), but that's ok. I didn't have a lot of time to decide what to buy, so I figured that whatever happened, I should avoid spending expendables this fight until I get a chance to sort things out. |

| Book504-15-06, 06:34 PM | @StoneTree - Tactics for Ba'al sent the only thing was no expendables please, but if your in the middle and you already defalted to using the inertia stone... then no worries mate! :D What I would probably recommend is to roll an Int or Wis check at a DC you set to think of the option to use the HoG daylight ability...let the dice decide if the character remembers. That way it's not your decision, but rather the will of the dice. Intruiging. What (giving a few samples) would you say the DC would be? or the major modifiers in that case? Certainly not that high in this scenario. Perhaps a spellcraft check is in order? An 'on the spot' memory check to see if you recall the standard contingencies for darkness and daylight metaphysical negation? This is a descision that needs to be made in 6 seconds. Then again "when in darkness - find the light" is a pretty basic instinct that all living creatures share, so that should be at least -5 to the DC... "instinctual action" or something. Perhaps the real question is: Do you really want to be responcible for forcing a loosing tactic over an obvious tactic.. and theoretically costing the player a win? No need to be too zealous now, perhaps the real question is: Do you have a reason not to? :twocents: |
| Ravashack04-15-06, 06:55 PM | It would have started on that round, but you were still loading/focusing and you have to make an attack to do so. Oops, my bad. Thought I did. |

| SoulLord04-16-06, 05:02 PM | Lissa vs Vandelar the Red is up and finished. That was an increadible stroke of luck as you shall see. Thanks for running the fight. Just forget to send tactics? Normally, I would assume my email account ate them, but I recieved tactics from two other gladiators without trouble this week at that account, so... Also, you seem to have listed Kaigan as the Pitlord for your battle against Merchea; whereas I actually ran that fight. The gall! :P @Any and all gladiators in future fights Please don't email me tactics if at all possible. I quite simply don't trust most email services to get it there timely and successfully. I always clear out my PM box on tuesdays, so even on wensday, PMs will get tactics to me. |

| Ariel2304-17-06, 03:50 PM | Riana Vs Valek Is up. Hopefully there aren't any or too many errors. Round 5 Valek shoots Riana with an arrow, which is basically impossible after Round 1 due to the Deflect Arrow feat. It's only 3 HP, which won't matter much unless the Disarm attempt succeeds. (At 0 HP all Riana can do is attack and then pass out.) Round 12 Riana didn't get a Disarm attempt. I am guessing this is because you have the AoO cancel the disarm, but an AoO doesn't cancel the provoking event in and of itself, it just precedes it. At 1d20+3 vs 1d20+6, Valek has the advantage, but it is definitely possible to disarm without an excessive amount of attempts required. Who knows? This might be the one... |

At 1d20+3 vs 1d20+6, Valek has the advantage, but it is definitely possible to disarm without an excessive amount of attempts required. Who knows? This might be the one... Not really. In this case, the action is disrupted: Step 1 Attack of Opportunity. You provoke an attack of opportunity from the target you are trying to disarm. (If you have the Improved Disarm feat, you don’t incur an attack of opportunity for making a disarm attempt.) If the defender’s attack of opportunity deals any damage, your disarm attempt fails. |
| Biota04-17-06, 06:31 PM | If someone can take this fight it would be appreciated. I'm likely not going to be able to run it. I have tactics and can send them if you can take the fight. Flamehair (Usurpator) vs. Jonathon (Abyssal Stalker) : Biota Biota |
| Ariel2304-17-06, 06:54 PM | Valek shot from hiding, so Riana can't deflect beacuse she is not aware of the coming attack.I assumed that was covered by "Riana spots her prey" and "Valek sees Riana look right at him" I'm not sure that the "condition" of Aware is defined anywhere, so I guess that's up to the DM. But in a one on one arena fight where you have successfully located your sole opponent, it would be somewhat of a stretch to say that Riana is unaware of the attack. Maybe Skip defined "aware" in a rules of the game or something, you got me. They don't even define what a "targeted" spell is, and that really sounds like official game terminology to me. As I pointed out, it doesn't matter. Being at 0 HP would not help Riana in the slightest. Although she could surrender at 0 I suppose rather than get knocked out. :cheer: Not really. In this case, the action is disrupted:Thanks, I thought there was something like that. I checked the AoO section and must have skimmed Disarm. It's all okay with me, regardless. |

| Skojar04-17-06, 10:31 PM | Evaine vs a Xill (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8884158&postcount=501) is finally up. Probably best to keep me on the inactive PitLord list for a while sorry. |
| Ariel2304-17-06, 10:50 PM | Evaine vs a Xill (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8884158&postcount=501) is finally up. Probably best to keep me on the inactive PitLord list for a while sorry. The attack in Round 4 (the only one worth mentioning on my side) would have Dissolving Weapon on it. I would put that specifically in my tactics, but it's in my pre-buffs which I'm not allowed to change (so that would be redundant and/or confusing) and my tactics already took up more than 5,000 characters. As usual for Evaine. So, that's 1d8+5 (Magic slashing) +2d6 (Crystal) +4d6 (Dissolving Weapon) In other words, +4d6 damage. :w00t: I didn't bother with the trip attack, as I couldn't find any indication that the xill being tripped would somehow break the grapple.Or anything to indicate that it wouldn't? :P Gleeful with his victory, the xill begins to palnewalk he and his victim away!If he goes to the ethereal plane for more than 10 rounds, that's a delay penalty. :gah: Well, the first one is obviously the only real problem. If you could put up a 4d6 damage roll on the die roller, I will be okay with whatever results. I would have put a smiley here but I couldn't think of a good one. Edit: Forgot to mention, thanks for following this part of my tactics:You should probably make it a chain devil since I have to fight chains every other week anyway and this is my chain week. If you can't find a chain devil, make it something large that grapples. I was bored and calculated my average rolling (for team Ecto): 17 rolls (d20) = average 6.5 (Opponent average = 12.5) Ouch! |
| NiQil04-17-06, 11:17 PM | @ DSugui: Any word on the War/Finrod/Danidus Hunter match? @ StoneTree: Any word on the Famine/Gorgul MacSmart battle? I haven't seen that either of these have been posted....if they have been and I missed it, can someone point the way? |
| Erithmu04-17-06, 11:21 PM | @Niqil: I saw Famine's setup but the fight was in progress. @Zevox: Graz on win vs Sola, I only had a minor rewards issue (which has been PM'd to Huan), and a splitting headache after the beating I took that last round. |
| Zevox04-17-06, 11:34 PM | @ Erithmu - Indeed, looks like Wrath and Malice are starting to pull thier own weight now that they know those tricks :) . I noticed the rewards discrepancy too - Asran gets 1,350 xp and Sola should get 750 xp and 832 gp. The nice thing for me is Asran finally levels up, which helps a lot with his hp problem (Fighter level and 18 con = +10 hp). @ Huan - one other thing worth noting for that fight is that the used items are off. Asran used a potion of protection from good, not evil, and also the two used charges of his wand should be listed. Otherwise looks great, thanks for running it! Zevox |
| Argaud04-17-06, 11:49 PM | I didn't bother with the trip attack, as I couldn't find any indication that the xill being tripped would somehow break the grapple. Or anything to indicate that it wouldn't? :P Probably the xill will die to the extra 4d6 damage from that Dissolving Weapon, but it is worth mentioning that if he is tripped, although he won't lose the grapple, he will be a -4 to attack for being prone (irrelevant, since the bite hits automatically) and the constructs will have a +4 to hit him. Number ten would actually have hit him in round 7 with a 13! (AC20, -3 because no dex in grapple, and -4 for prone). |
| StoneTree04-17-06, 11:54 PM | First fight (Dretchy guy vs. Armored Dwarf man) is finally up. I did request to be brought down to one fight a week, you know. ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY SIX! RAAAH!~ STONETREE EAT PUNY PCs! No offense here....but wtf? The "fight" that you have posted there doesn't even come close to meeting the requirements of a fight post. It appears to be a narrative written about the two fighters, rather than a fight. Not a single roll listed...no way to know what modifiers were used...it appears tactics on both sides were barely followed. I can understand about getting a fight you didn't expect, and not having time to do it....but if that if is the case, why not pass it off to someone else right away? @ Argaud: I'm sorry, but I cannot accept the fight as it stands, and with the time to deadline, I am guessing there will not be an edit, since it would basically be a complete rerun. I will be asking for this "fight" to be held over and rerun. For those that wonder what I am referring to, take a look. |
| StoneTree04-18-06, 12:38 AM | @ Argaud: I'm sorry, but I cannot accept the fight as it stands, and with the time to deadline, I am guessing there will not be an edit, since it would basically be a complete rerun. I will be asking for this "fight" to be held over and rerun. For those that wonder what I am referring to, take a look. Sorry... forgot to link the rolls. Many are HERE (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=181). I'll stick it in the fight. I did not list the 100+ rolls for the rounds where Borgul was sniping because 4-5 posts a round, changing depending on the results of the rolls of the previous round, was way too long given that the dice rolling program takes a while after each post to give results. I simply used some plastic on a table in front of me for all attacks except the 83 that I could do in bulk. I followed your tactics closely... you wwanted to stay at 90+ feet, you never mentioned cover anywhere, and you healed yourself whenever you dropped below 20 hp. When you ran out of arrows, I had to improvise, and had you draw your weapon and start attacking. You could never have gotten to a point where you wouldn't have had cover on him--your self imposed 90' limit (the most stringent thing in your tactics) meant you could never go far enough arround a piece of obstruction that you wouldn't get cover--the circumfrence was too much for you--so I didn't waste time having you try. As a result, every attack you made was at an AC of 27, hence the 19+ to hit. Without your shiled, he was hitting on a +17 with his bow. I had the demon spend the roughly eight minutes crouching behind a rock because it made considerably more sense then spending 8 minutes lumbering arround the arena after you crying. Outlasting your rain of arrows was his only real option, and the one I had him take. While I'm sure you would have been happier with the fight had your opponent walked towards you like a pac-man ghost, given the plentiful and obvious cover scattered about the arena, it would be foolish not to have the creature stand behind one. From what I remeber of the CoCo rules, there is no requirement to use an online dice roller. I still did for all of the damage the saves and the bulk attacks, as well as the summon attempts and the initiative. And if you can find someone willing to run this monstrosity of a conflict over for you, go ahead. EDIT: Actually. The rules don't require the use of an online roller, and I don't feel I mulched your tactics any. If your only other problem is the fact I didn't list the modifiers visible on your sheet, I can just go through and add those. +X to hit, AC of X in the apropriate locations--would that satisfy you? And Argaud, man, you need a wand of cure light wounds. |

| Gonbow04-18-06, 02:04 AM | And Argaud, man, you need a wand of cure light wounds. I'll field this one, since I too have a Dretch gladiator; it is specifically stated that Dretch cannot speak. Thus, they cannot use command-word items, or any spell-trigger items that require vocal components; like Cure Light Wounds. @Ravashack That's a reasonable request, I'll do that sometime today or tomorrow. I've stated it before, but really not many people use email so I haven't felt the need to have it explicitly stated in the Pitlord list. |
| Argaud04-18-06, 02:51 AM | No offense here....but wtf? Actually my tactics were followed pretty much to the letter. I fully expected 113 arrows from Famine vs. Gor's 40 arrows. Hitting only on 20s (because of cover and defensive fighting were part of my tactics). Tedious, yes, but pretty straightforward. The only surprises was Famine critical hit (two 20s, since Gor was using full defense and cover by then) and Gor managing to bring Famine down to 0 hp before being killed by his axe. That was some luck. I don’t know how Famine could have done better, honestly. My calculations were that once Famine runs out of arrows Gor would still have 10hp to Famine’s full, wand-given, life (not 1!). Then I expected to lose the melee duel, although Gor had an okay chance to win. I guess Gor won the melee duel only thanks to Famine having very bad luck with the rolls. @NiQil: you need some cold iron backup weapon. Or even a few arrows. And a silver one, right now a lycanthrope will defeat you easily. @StoneTree: Dretches can’t talk, so no wand for me. I will go Wilder next level, though, so I may get Gor a dorje of Vigor or something. |
| Turin04-18-06, 08:01 AM | <whew> The seperate thread fight Kracknol vs Auburn (ECL8) is finally complete! Enjoy! |
| DSugui04-18-06, 08:25 AM | @ DSugui: Any word on the War/Finrod/Danidus Hunter match? I'll be running it today, may be a little late. Sorry about that. |
| LongArcher04-18-06, 09:04 AM | Um, so, can anyone at all take Archie Longbow vs Tatyana? I know I said before that I might be able to get it late Tuesday or early Wednesday, but from the looks of things even thats not going to be able to happen. Homework crunch is turning worse than I thought. Zevox I just read my PM now, and I do have Fireball available, it is all paid for and the experience loss accounting for in their scribing. A slight oversight in not actually writing it in the spellbook, but nonetheless, it is legit and fully paid for and available for use. Amz. |
| Dracazar04-18-06, 11:13 AM | @lonewolf Uilo (Dracazar) vs. Leif (Sunwolf) vs. Donak (Mal-2) : Lonewolf [All vs All][ECL7] Round 1: as noted in the tactic "Husk start near her granting cover from the opposite box" so Donak's shot in round 1 is a miss Round 2: for the same reason Donak hit only once The other rounds of the fight should be different |
| Dracazar04-18-06, 11:34 AM | Mizay Alamak (Katana) vs. Quesis II (Dracazar) is up HERE Simple tactics, luck decided the winner. Thank you for the run. |

Drac accepts this although Uilo does have a good chance of turning this fight around. |

Drac accepts this although Uilo does have a good chance of turning this fight around. I'm willing to take third place if you think that would be the most likely outcome. I didn't really expect to do well in the Free for All, and I haven't edited yet. |
| MindWandererB04-18-06, 03:29 PM | @Gonbow: How are you doing, man? You have two fights left to run in 25 hours, and you don't seem to be online much. @StoneTree: If you insist on using real dice (and be prepared to get a lot of flack for that), you need to at least annotate the rolls into the fight. One cannot tell from your fights what was rolled where, and it can occasionally make a difference (you might have missed a +1 or -1 somewhere that made the difference between a hit and a miss, for example). You can see that there were a couple of fights this week where some modifiers were missed that made a difference, especially the Uilo fight. |
| DSugui04-18-06, 07:56 PM | Micah (DarthVegan) vs. Istima (Zevox) vs. Kramer (HuBBaBuBBa) is up HERE It took more time to run than I first thought it would. I will run the Hunter fight now. |
| Zevox04-18-06, 08:10 PM | Micah (DarthVegan) vs. Istima (Zevox) vs. Kramer (HuBBaBuBBa) is up HERE It took more time to run than I first thought it would. I will run the Hunter fight now. No kidding. 46 rounds for that :mymy: ? Could've been shorter if Istima had rolled higher on his first energy ray on Kramer (15 damage that would've been...), but the way it turned out is just painful. Sorry you had to go through all that - I was hoping Istima wouldn't need to melee, but at least Ingolë did his job when it came to it. No evident errors (and even if there were theres no way I'd ask for a rerun on a FFA), thanks for running it! Zevox |
| Argaud04-18-06, 09:13 PM | Sorry... forgot to link the rolls. Many are HERE (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=181). I'll stick it in the fight. @NiQil, are you okay with this explanation? I just noticed Famine was shoting at Gorgul and hitting with 19s. StoneTree forgot to apply full defense to his AC (19+mage armor+cover+full defense=31!). But I am happy with the fight because Gor was -incredibly- lucky  I don't want a rerun 'cause the odds of him surviving the rain of arrows and the melee aren't very good. But you saw the rolls, so you know this time the gods of dice were with him. |
| Skojar04-18-06, 10:50 PM | Probably the xill will die to the extra 4d6 damage from that Dissolving Weapon, but it is worth mentioning that if he is tripped, although he won't lose the grapple, he will be a -4 to attack for being prone (irrelevant, since the bite hits automatically) and the constructs will have a +4 to hit him. Number ten would actually have hit him in round 7 with a 13! (AC20, -3 because no dex in grapple, and -4 for prone). After adding in the dissolving weapon the fight (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8884158&postcount=501) becomes boring. Oh well. |
| DarthVegan04-18-06, 11:35 PM | What a fight! The dice were against me for sure, though. Oh well. |
| DSugui04-19-06, 12:11 AM | War (NiQil) => Finrod (Lonewolf) => Danidus (Vecnoran) is up HERE Pretty straightforward, luck (or the lack of it) determined the results. Sorry for the late fight. I hope there aren't many mistakes, don't know if I will have the time to correct... |
| NiQil04-19-06, 12:19 AM | War (NiQil) => Finrod (Lonewolf) => Danidus (Vecnoran) is up HERE Pretty straightforward, luck (or the lack of it) determined the results. Sorry for the late fight. I hope there aren't many mistakes, don't know if I will have the time to correct... I have a question....it could be a mistake or it could be correct.... In round 7, Finrod casts a touch spell and designates Labra as the toucher. In the fight, you have Finrod become visible when Labra makes his attempt, causing War to switch targets. My question is, since Finrod did not directly harm another party as per the invisibility spell, should he have become visible there? Labra is the attacker at that point, meaning that Finrod indirectly caused harm. It would seem to me that this would be similar to summoning, in that Labra making an attack with a touch spell would not break the invisibility, and would then result in War not changing targets. I am unsure of the answer...as I said...it could be a very large fight-affecting error....or it could be that you have it right and I am just not very familiar with invisibility rules. |

I am unsure of the answer...as I said...it could be a very large fight-affecting error....or it could be that you have it right and I am just not very familiar with invisibility rules. Well, I used similarity to rule here. The Familiar description says that "if the master casts another spell before the touch is delivered, the touch spell dissipates" when being delivered by the familiar. So, it's as if the caster and the familiar were one regarding the touch spell, and, then, the attack would dissipate the Invisibility. I may be wrong, though I do recall reading something about this somewhere and that was the conclusion. Can someone clarify this, please? |
| MitzaVolchenko04-19-06, 04:32 AM | The familiar delivering a touch attack is a breach of the invisibility. Additionally if the familiar was previously benefitting from the invis, when it leaves its master's 5' radius, it becomes visible. If the master is 3rd level or higher, a familiar can deliver touch spells for him. If the master and the familiar are in contact at the time the master casts a touch spell, he can designate his familiar as the "toucher." The familiar can then deliver the touch spell just as the master could. As usual, if the master casts another spell before the touch is delivered, the touch spell dissipates. By designating the familiar as the toucher, the caster is merely choosing an option for delivery method which in effect extends their touch range to any place that the familiar can touch. The spell ends if the subject attacks any creature. For purposes of this spell, an attack includes any spell targeting a foe or whose area or effect includes a foe. By directing the spell through the medium of their familiar, the caster is making an attack just as if they are actually touching the target. The familiar may make the physical contact, but the arcane energy is directed by the caster. |
| lonewolf04-19-06, 07:29 AM | I am not 100% sure if Finrod should stay invisible or not, but I thought that he would when I wrote the tactics and I really want this issue solved before I write my next tactics! |
| NiQil04-19-06, 08:04 AM | I am not 100% sure if Finrod should stay invisible or not, but I thought that he would when I wrote the tactics and I really want this issue solved before I write my next tactics! I'm fine with the fight as is....I wanted to throw that question out there, however, because I do not recall seeing that situation ever come up before, and wanted some other opinions. Mitza's post says much the same as what I expected to hear...but at the same time it also sounds an awful lot like what happens when you use a summoning spell...so I am honestly unsure of the answer. I would appreciate more opinions on this issue, since it could have a strategic affect on a large number of characters (anyone with a familiar or psicrystal), depending on what most people think the ruling should be. |
| Usurpator04-19-06, 08:31 AM | By directing the spell through the medium of their familiar, the caster is making an attack just as if they are actually touching the target. The familiar may make the physical contact, but the arcane energy is directed by the caster. It is my opinon that the caster doesn't actively 'direct' anything once he has designated the familiar as the toucher. If the caster dies, falls asleep etc., I think the familiar will still be allowed to deliver the spell in question. No direction required. |
| Pittbull04-19-06, 08:53 AM | @Gonbow: Do you have problems with your fights? Will you finish them before pairings? |

Now if the invisibility had not been shared with the familiar it would not have ended when it attacked. nor would it have ended if the invisibility was no longer shared (like if the familiar moved beyond the sharing area first) |
| lonewolf04-19-06, 09:18 AM | I agree with SoulLord |
| DSugui04-19-06, 10:12 AM | @Gonbow: Do you have problems with your fights? Will you finish them before pairings? Since Gonbow didn't post Sappho vs Sunstroke yet, I am assuming he will not have time to run Dronnar vs Kazzz as well. So, in order to keep things running, I accept the defeat. I will edit Dronnar now. |
| Pittbull04-19-06, 10:35 AM | Whow! Thank you very much! That's really generous, since it was not your fault. So we don't need to wait another week. |
| DSugui04-19-06, 10:39 AM | Whow! Thank you very much! That's really generous, since it was not your fault. So we don't need to wait another week. Yeah, I don't want to wait another week, it's better accept loss and take the little money and xp... Besides, now that I read you tactics, it would me cost a *lot* of money to win (and I might not...), so leave it... |
| Usurpator04-19-06, 12:31 PM | @Biota: Haven't heard you about Flamehair vs. Jonathan yet, are you still going to run it? |
| Abyssal Stalker04-19-06, 12:37 PM | It seems to me that it is still free to take. Biota said earlier that he can't get the time to do it. No one has yet volunteered for it. Any takers? I can PM my tactics to whoever wishes to do it! |
| Usurpator04-19-06, 01:57 PM | It seems to me that it is still free to take. Biota said earlier that he can't get the time to do it. No one has yet volunteered for it. Oh, I missed that... |
| Zevox04-19-06, 02:11 PM | I wouldn't bet on anyone being able to take it I'm afraid. I asked if anyone could take Tatyana vs Archie Longbow on Friday, repeated the request a couple of times over the weekend, and got nothing. This pitlord shortage is becoming bad - I'm beggining to fear with the current state of things we may hit another State of Emergency this week. Zevox |
| MitzaVolchenko04-19-06, 02:20 PM | the way I see it Both the familiar and the wizard are sharing the invisibility spell If the wizard had attacked the invisibility would end for both it's the same the other way around if the familiar attacks while invisibility is being shared the spell would end when the familiar attacks. Now if the invisibility had not been shared with the familiar it would not have ended when it attacked. nor would it have ended if the invisibility was no longer shared (like if the familiar moved beyond the sharing area first) Wrong. Sharing Invisibility makes no difference. A touch attack through the familiar is an aggressive attack by the caster regardless of whether the familiar was getting the benefit of invis. The familiar is the delivery method for the attack, but the attack is still from the caster. Any other argument is like saying that because the arrow does the damage, the person firing the bow isn't attacking. |
| MitzaVolchenko04-19-06, 02:22 PM | It is my opinon that the caster doesn't actively 'direct' anything once he has designated the familiar as the toucher. If the caster dies, falls asleep etc., I think the familiar will still be allowed to deliver the spell in question. No direction required. If the caster isn't in control of the spell, why does it dissipate if the caster casts another spell? |
| SoulLord04-19-06, 03:42 PM | Wrong. Wrong Are you attacking someone? NO Are you targeting a foe with a spell? NO Did you cast an area effect that affected a foe? NO Actions directed at unattended objects do not break the spell Causing harm indirectly is not an attack An invisible being can open doors, talk, eat, climb stairs, summon monsters and have them attack |
| Usurpator04-19-06, 03:43 PM | If the caster isn't in control of the spell, why does it dissipate if the caster casts another spell? Because the rules say so? The dissipation rule is not because of some internal game logic concerning 'controlling' or 'directing', it was just added to prevent possible abuse and provide the same balance as with regular touch spells. Touch spells has nothing to do with control or direction, on the contrary, casters regularly discharge touch spells when they do not desire to do so. Touching anyone discharges it, even if you don't want to. |
| Gonbow04-19-06, 05:26 PM | @Dsugui, Pitbull My apologizes for being unable to complete your fight. I was going to post this morning and suggest that you (Dsugui) either surrender or PM Pitlords and ask the fight to be held over due to my error, but an unslightly downtime in communications for my county prevented me. You apparently took it into your own hands, so that is just as well, but still, I am sorry. @Biota, MindwandererB I'm also sorry that I could not do your fight on time, but this inconvience has revealed to me that with the end of the semester approaching, I simply dont have the ability to run fights and complete my schoolwork (along with the myriad other intricacies of a life), so I'm taking a break from pitlording. Hopefully this does not affect the 'shortage' too much, as I was only doing one or two fights a week in any case. |
