Fights of the Week: April 25th

Please don't edit the sheet after the deadline or you will lose the match.

Rules of Gladius
All that you need to know is written in the Rules of Gladius.
It could be useful also to give a look to the Court Decisions Part 1 and Part 2.
Please do not make fake accounts or insult the Elders.

Pairings
GM-in-Training MindwandererB will pair the active Characters of Gladius after the deadline.
Make sure that your character is not in prison.

Pitlording
You should use the CoCo Dice Roller (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com) for the fight.
If you need it, there is a nice template ready to use that will help.
You could find the Battle Map Tag Generator (http://www.hwx.it/coco) for dynamic Maps very useful. You must post a link to your fight in this thread when it is complete.
If you need a quick and dirty tool to calculate distances between two points (in 2-D or 3-D), this tool (http://wormhole.ath.cx/coco/coco_dist.php) should suffice.
Another useful link is the Quick Access tables for XP and Gold.
If a fight needs to be rerun, the Pitlord has to inform the Pitlords account. He cannot react to requests from Players because the other player and the pitlord might disagree. He has no time to read the fight and the discussion. Please keep that in mind. PMs from players with rerun requests won't have an impact.

Recent News and Developments
The Iron Man tournament continues this week - good luck to all involved

Comments & Concerns
Post any comments or concerns for this weeks fights in this thread.
Be kind and courteous to your fellow posters, and don't feed the pitlords.
Please remember that they do hard work and consume a lot of time to let you play. Above all, have FUN!

If you have questions or comments on any of the changes, please make your posts be heard in the Council of Gladius!

We've had several people cut down on their pitlording duties this week, and it's an Iron Man week. I may need some volunteers to pick up extra fights if we want to avoid a State of Emergency.

This also constitutes fair warning: on the non-IMT weeks, we've actually had an excess of pitlords, so I've been able to count an FFA/Hunter fight as 2 fights for the purpose of your requests (so if you asked for 3, I'd give you an FFA and a normal fight). Since we're short, the usual policy goes into effect: the more difficult fights still count as only one, and go to the pitlords who have requested the fewest fights (experienced PLs only).

You cant give me another fight (something easy please) if you that much pressed. (so 3 max)

Well, don't count this as definite yet, but I may be able to help out. Today marks the end of school for the summer for me at last. My laptop is having problems though, and I need that for running fights (my parents and brother use the others most of the time). If I can get my laptop back in order, I'll let you know and take some fights.

I'll pick up one fight this week (preferably a 1-on-1 low level fight, but I'll take anything if need be).
Hirumajoe

04-25-07, 01:31 PM
I can take a fight. Preferably not an IMT, but I'll do it if thats what you're short on.
MindWandererB

04-25-07, 01:46 PM
Apparently I need to clarify something, based on a PM I just got: FFA/Hunter/Team/Interleague fights are still worth 2 credits, but they count as 1 fight as far as your sign-ups are concerned. So if you signed up for 2, you might get an FFA and a normal fight, for 3 credits.

Thanks for the volunteers... it might be enough, but it might not, so anyone who still wants to speak up, please do. I'll follow your preferences as much as possible.
MindWandererB

04-25-07, 02:15 PM
I'm also making a small change to the rules. I did this one before when I wasn't really supposed to, because I was completely out of pitlords; now I'm giving myself permission.
The Battles of Gladius - Late and Missing Fights It sometimes happens that real-life issues prevent a Pitlord from running a fight on time and no other Pitlord stepped up so that the fight is not up before the next pairings. Don't edit your sheet. Your fight will go into week 2 and marked with an [E] (Extended Fight). To compensate you for the lost week, we allow such characters to do one Full Activity during the extended week. Send a PM to Pitlords who will add this activity to the Pairings Post on the Battles thread. Exception: If your character was involved in a monster fight, and the identity of the monster was never posted, Pitlords may opt to throw the entire fight out and pair your character in a normal fight, rather than holding the fight over. You will still be compensated a full activity.
This affects Mithos this week, clearly.
Zevox

04-25-07, 02:22 PM
So Mithos gets an actual fight this week? Sweet :D ! I like this rule change.

04-25-07, 02:26 PM
@MWB - although Cat knew about this - you may not. I am unofficially available to pick up additional fights as needed. I obviously don't want to have 6 or 7 on my plate - but I can always pick up a 3rd or 4th.
TelinArtho

04-25-07, 02:56 PM
A Pair of Doves, take two is up for Sjiggie to start posting in. Good luck in this attempt.

The Gawane Underworld is ready for Sunwolf to start posting in. I already rolled up his encounters and surprisingly - I think they work well thematically... of course - just not in a city - but I'll do the best I can...
McJarvis

04-25-07, 02:57 PM
I just happened to notice.

Forums will be down tomorrow morning.

The good news is it has something to do with us getting our search engine back. :D
MindWandererB

04-25-07, 03:03 PM
Right, and the end of said downtime happens to correspond precisely with the deadline to get the IMT characters ready. This means that unless the downtime ends prematurely (which it usually does), most IMT characters will need to be ready by 2 AM PST/11 AM CET.

However... I think the deadline will need to be extended. Pairing IMT, especially this late in the game, takes a lot less time than the usual pairings, so let's push that deadline back by 2 hours: IMT updates must be finished by 11 PM CET tomorrow.

Looks like things are grim for Leif... paralyzed in round 1 of his first encounter...
Hirumajoe

04-25-07, 03:26 PM
Hmm... Valen is the only active level 9 character. Why do I sense a monster fight coming on? :)
Macbrea

04-25-07, 03:28 PM
That's ok. Izumi and Relanex are the only active for fighting ECL 8 characters. I am pretty sure I don't want to face Relanex with Izumi.. He is a tad out of her league for being able to beat.
Zevox

04-25-07, 03:29 PM
Hmm... Valen is the only active level 9 character. Why do I sense a monster fight coming on? :)
Well, you could always get an inter-league fight instead. :)

Zevox
Macbrea

04-25-07, 03:31 PM
Hmm, that would be Valen vs Balrog and Kervan.

And

Izumi or Relanex vs Durin and El Rapido.
Hirumajoe

04-25-07, 03:31 PM
Possibly. Although Balrog and Kervan Sheharath are the only ECL 7s active. I might prefer the monster fight. Effectively a Fighter + Cleric doesn't sound so good. (To fight against that is! :D )

Edit: Once again too slow...
Macbrea

04-25-07, 03:45 PM
hmm, Izumi wouldn't mind the match up as much as Relanex. I don't think he has enough fire power to take two people 2 levels lower then him without dieing. Izumi should be able to seriously hurt them.
Pitlords

04-25-07, 04:00 PM
I'm surprised... thanks to an unusually small number of active characters, I actually didn't need to take any of those volunteers after all. Thanks anyway.

Pairings are done, except that the WAR mission still has no questlord.

@Pitlords/MWB: Not sure if this is possible (or legal), and I saw the posts about a possible PL shortage this week, but Mohmat (ECL3) had fixed his prison violation, and the original reporter also noted it as fixed, prior to this weeks' pairings - however, since it happened after this weeks' prison rollcall, he was still listed as a red violation in prison. If that precludes him from fighting, that's more than fair and totally fine with me; if not, I'd love for him to get paired this week (possibly against The Seeker, although his monster is already posted) - but honestly I'm happy to wait until next week if that's the rule/easiest.

@Yitzi - I generally send the stats of the summons I use for a fight with my tactics. However, I think I might be using my grand powers as a Guildmaster and use one of the CEF posts for all of the summons with the augmented stats.

I think I forgot to include the stats in the PM for tactics though - I'll send them tomorrow morning.

Vath, if you see this, forward me the tactics that are sitting in your "The Magister" PM box and then PM Templer10 that you did so. If you could post here that you did it, that's cool too.

Against that kind of opposition, it's not surprising. I know from experience that multiple phrenic opponents are just plain icky.
TelinArtho

04-26-07, 04:24 PM
Did you see the other opponents he was slated to face as well? All in all - he was not going to have a good week...

Still, I stand by the comment I made in the thread - For an ECL10 character, Leif has no strong saves to work from. The saving throw versus brainlock was only DC16 - very makeable for most level 10 mental attribute characters. Now, given, he rolled poorly, but that he only had a 50% chance of making the save is very telling.

... aka Telin claims another quest victim.
Still you've got a point... +6 saves with no +resistance items isn't a good thing at that level, where alot of encounters are decided by save or die. Of course with the number of brain lock saves he'd have to make, the odds were against him.

Oh yes, thats definitely a major weakness of Leif. Recall the big WAR interception where he essentially lost to a level 5 Ceilia? The whole reason we did that is because his saves are so low that her Silence spell had an almost 50/50 chance of success even at that level. He can dish out the pain, and his hp is good for a caster, but hes quite vulnerable to fellow casters thanks to those saves.

question- does the Gray ooze - "transperent" Ability works essentially as the ooze is always hidden without regards to LOS and need the not so easy DC 15+distance spot check?

here is quete- " A gray ooze is hard to identify, even under ideal conditions, and it takes a DC 15 Spot check to notice one. Creatures who fail to notice a gray ooze and walk into it are automatically hit with a melee attack for slam and acid damage."

if so- i just might have 2 opponents who might finally meet in round err 20 or so so ill fudge the directions a bit (much).

Looks like it, yep. Until a character makes that spot check, the ooze is hidden. Once they spot it though that ability will be null.

as soon as you spot it it's basicly dead- it's just spotting it's the problem...

btw- does double move gives the -20?
TelinArtho

04-26-07, 05:07 PM
A full double move - yes.

When moving at a speed greater than one-half but less than your normal speed, you take a –5 penalty. It’s practically impossible (–20 penalty) to hide while attacking, running or charging.

Notice that the -5 is for any speed less than your normal speed. I suppose it might be somewhere between - but I know it has been run as a -20 for most of the fights where it has been a question.

It is. -5 applies for up to full-speed. We don't hand out more penalties when they are not specified. Every fight I've ever run & every fight any of my hiders have been in were ruled like this.
TelinArtho

04-26-07, 05:42 PM
Well - there's only so much something that moves at a 10 speed can do.

I think you're a little confused here Telin - this isn't a spot vs hide, its spot vs a flat DC for the creature's special ability. Hide mods don't apply unless it actually tries to hide normally (needing cover, concealment, or so on as usual).

is done here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=12209311&postcount=808)

Once i figure out the awards i will post them..

couple of things-

first- as far as iam aware i dont need to mention i am addresing powerstones pre battle (it is assumed to be done automaticly) and i do have the 1 rank of psicraft needed (it was approved in training room since i didnt know originally i needed it) so i should have been able to use all those powerstones with no need to waste rounds attempting to addres them

second - Lightwolf isnt doing anything to engage me for more then 10 rounds (14 to be excat) and by the rules he need to be hit with delay penatly- the fact that i take some of that time to buff doesnt matter since i activly search for him afterwards.

third - You had me doing nothing at round 16 - the fact i fell from horse and took dmg doesnt mean i lose a round.

forth - i sahould have renewed force screen at round 15 when the first 1 run out- you waited until round 18 (iam assuming 18 from the end of round summeries) as a result of getting the force screen up earlier and acting in round 16 assuming actions stay the same all shots in round 17 shouldnt have hit since i would have had AC 24 (with new force screen) +4 from cover = 28 before that round started (since i moved there in round 16).

fifth- my tactics asked that if it's a balcony Fight i should take cover myself which is very possible considering the city has plenty of buildings. if i had cover i wouldnt have been hit in rounds 26, 28. (btw- i just noticed you do mention me near corner of building but didnt give me the cover)

sixth- when hit i should do 2d6+2 since it's obvios Lightwolf is without his armor so i should be shooting E-ray fire (per the tactics)

first- as far as iam aware i dont need to mention i am addresing powerstones pre battle (it is assumed to be done automaticly) and i do have the 1 rank of psicraft needed (it was approved in training room since i didnt know originally i needed it) so i should have been able to use all those powerstones with no need to waste rounds attempting to addres them

As per the Rules. if they aren't addressed in prebuff you have a psicraft roll to make.. Shrugs i just follow the rules i don't make them..

second - Lightwolf isnt doing anything to engage me for more then 10 rounds (14 to be excat) and by the rules he need to be hit with delay penatly- the fact that i take some of that time to buff doesnt matter since i activly search for him afterwards.
I start counting rounds of For delay at round 6 when you moved out and was done buffing, meaning he acually had 2 more rounds before the delay penalty..

third - You had me doing nothing at round 16 - the fact i fell from horse and took dmg doesnt mean i lose a round.
you fell you started moving into the bushes (pushing through them) to be able to refresh your buffs

forth - i sahould have renewed force screen at round 15 when the first 1 run out- you waited until round 18 (iam assuming 18 from the end of round summeries) as a result of getting the force screen up earlier and acting in round 16 assuming actions stay the same all shots in round 17 shouldnt have hit since i would have had AC 24 (with new force screen) +4 from cover = 28 before that round started (since i moved there in round 16).
I will adjust that... (all rolls will stay in the order they were rolled)

fifth- my tactics asked that if it's a balcony Fight i should take cover myself which is very possible considering the city has plenty of buildings. if i had cover i wouldnt have been hit in rounds 26, 28. (btw- i just noticed you do mention me near corner of building but didnt give me the cover)

you also say to move as close as possable to get your point blank shot bonus, and as this is 15ft up, you have to be with 30, means your outside of cover to get it.. as per your tactics you have to think 3 dimentional I followed your tactics as written that i could decifer..

sixth- when hit i should do 2d6+2 since it's obvios Lightwolf is without his armor so i should be shooting E-ray fire (per the tactics)

well since you missed your first shot your focus went away meaning your psi-shot didn't effect... Now as for your E-ray Since your 2 pages of tactics i saw Electric mentioned 5 times and proably more..

As for your e-ray Dorjes i am under the Impression, that you think that you can change the Energy ray coming out of it.. And i am under the Impression that when they are made a "Energy" is chosen Since the Psionic power Specifcly states that Upon manifesting this power, you choose cold, electricity, fire, or sonic. Then under crafting Dorje "A dorje’s wielder cannot augment the power contained within the dorje." meaning when the Dorje is crafted one of the 4 energys is put into it.. As you have No control what comes out of the Dorje and aren't spending pps to use your own.. what comes out is the creaters

"A dorje is a slender crystal that contains a single power" Energy Ray is 4 powers under 1 name... (Energy ray cold, energy ray fire, energy ray sonic, energy ray Electric.. very much simular to Dromites that has it as an Ability Innate)

As in your fights i saw you using electric I used electric..

Could you show me this rule since i pitlorded for enough psionics and almost never they say to address powerstones and i have never seen ayone complain when i just had them use the stones.

as you fell you started moving into the bushes (pushing through them) to be able to refresh your buffs even if i couldnt push all the way through i should be able to get at least partial cover from them But 1 shot in that round missed anyway since the Force screen went up at round 15.

you also say to move as close as possable to get your point blank shot bonus, and as this is 15ft up, you have to be with 30, means your outside of cover to get it.. as per your tactics you have to think 3 dimentional I followed your tactics as written that i could decifer..

i never in my tactics mentioned to stay near LW to get the PBS bonus all i said is that if iam near him i do get it.

i mentioned a spesific contingency to if LW is on balconies and it say- "balcony

a second option he might choose is to somehow get to a balcony and thus improve his touch AC by 4. I cant deal with his added AC unless I get very close to him which I don’t want to do so simply use the houses near the balconies to get cover from him while still shooting at him (e-ray electricity)- also use ride for cover"

so in fact i spesificly asked to NOT be near him

in fact in another area of my contingencies i also mentoned my preference of safety over everything else - "whenever ima moving if iam not chasing LW attempt to end my move in cover from the direction iam heading towards – you can lose 1-2 squeres of move to do it."

As for your e-ray Dorjes i am under the Impression, that you think that you can change the Energy ray coming out of it.. i beg to differ- the power is energy ray - not energy electiricity so unless there is a new rule in effect i should be able to choose which energy type to use every time i manifest the power - in a similar situation - say ressist energy - when you canst ressist energy from a scroll you can choose on the spot the type of energy to be ressistent to it - similar rules apply here.

i just checked the rules of gladius and i found this about powerstones-

"Automatic Prebuffs: Some effects don't even need mentioning in the Prefight Actions section. To decipher a Scroll you either have to have access to read magic, or a sufficent spellcraft modifier. You are assumed to take 20 on that check and must beat Dc20+spell level. If you pass that Dc, your scrolls are automatically assumed to be deciphered. The same goes for powerstones and psicraft although here, the DC is Dc15+power level. Alternative ways to decipher a scroll are the Use Magic Device skill to decipher a Written Spell (take 20 and Dc25+spell level) or Use Psionic Device to decode a powerstone (take 20 and Dc25+power level). You do not have to list these actions under the prebuff section. Characters that lack these prerequisites cannot use the scrolls and powerstones in question. "

so i DIDNT need to mention addresing them- please adjust - i get 1 more vigor powerstone this way i think

Templer10 is right in this case you don't need to list that you adress your powerstones or scrolls for that matter but it's easier to just put it in your prebuff section for the pitlords.

Since you never got the Skill Psicraft that is IN class for you till the 25th, I took it as if the Powerstones as being Unaddressed.. and you get what you paid for (2 powerstones of Vigor) Since failing dosen't do anything bad unless the power contained is Above your ML
Macbrea

If you didn't have the skill, which is trained only. You are unable to take 20 at the skill. It requires you be trained. If you discovered an error later and had it corrected after the Deadline for character edits. It is upto your opponent as to wether you are allowed to use your corrections on that character. If your not allowed to use that correction then there is a much more serious error of you being able to use a skill illegally early in the fight.

it waste rounds and as mentioned in the training room - i didnt know when seting lord lorian as ready before the fight i needed psicraft to addres powerstones- since it was reported and approved pre fight i dont see why i should be penilized for it.

a bit hard to notice when you had me use the powerstones but if it's in round 18 then you game me 2 little HP since the powerstones are Augmented to give 10 temp hp (it's ML2 - aug] so my HP at end of round 18 should be 22 (18 at end of last round -6 +10) not 17. (actually 25 since the shot in that round shouldnt have hit since i should have had new force screen ass mentioned earlier)

after using the Vigor again in the folloing rounds HP should be 25 again since the other powerstone is augmented also.

p.s. since my HP should be 25 at round 19 and following i shouldnt be needing to use the vigor again at that point so that need some editing also.

@Yitzi - well there's a couple of things:

1. I don't see any MS and listen checks for Darrgon's purpose. Even if he is unable to pinpoint his opponent - that should give him enough information to move out of the corner.

2. I didn't state to cast the 2nd SMII spell - that second spell should've been the Color Spray at that point, followed by the SMI spell if I had the chance.

You never said in your tactics that you wanted to move if he was coming near, so I didn't include it.

2. I didn't state to cast the 2nd SMII spell - that second spell should've been the Color Spray at that point, followed by the SMI spell if I had the chance.

But since you lost the first one, I assumed you still wanted the summon. Since the result is up, I'm not sure if tactics clarifications like that are still eligible...

What does everybody else say? If tactics were misunderstood, are clarifications accepted once the fight is up?
TelinArtho

04-27-07, 01:11 PM
Well there's something I can say about it. By casting the 2nd SMII spell - it means I am unable to cast Color Spray and SMI after it - meaning it makes the rest of my tactics impossible.

As to moving from hearing him approach - that would actually very likely trigger the summons rather than the casting of Exp retreat in the first place (assuming I heard him approach anyway).

What does everybody else say? If tactics were misunderstood, are clarifications accepted once the fight is up?To some extent

However:
round 4: if Dar steps away, there should be no need for defensive casting, so there should just be a conc check in round 5 when Hunt hits him (if you keep the same roll, it should pass) which would lead to the color spray portion of the match
Yitzi

04-27-07, 01:19 PM
To some extent
In that case, I can see how this would apply, so I'll adjust it for the second SMII, but not for summoning if you hear him (since you wouldn't know if he's planning to keep his distance with a bow or not, and you explicitly said if you don't see him). Any rolls that can be redistributed to the same action (concentration checks, TWF attacks) will be.

However:
round 4: if Dar steps away, there should be no need for defensive casting, so there should just be a conc check in round 5 when Hunt hits him (if you keep the same roll, it should pass) which would lead to the color spray portion of the match

There was no defensive casting in round 4, only in round 3 (where he could not 5' step far enough away due to the corner).

You're right about buying equipment, of course. I didn't think that monsters had credits available for buying custom equipment. And personally, I try to limit the amount of single-use items that a monster has (since they can use all of them in a fight -- why not? It's not like they really cost anything). It's fine if your philosophy is different, though. It's an art, not a science.

Monster Fights - Monster Equipment
Pitlords assign monster equipment according to p127 DMG table 4-23 (or see table below) where the CR of the monster is the "NPC level". This value is then modified by the 'Treasure' entry of the monster in the Monster Manual. An entry of 'Standard' means the worth of the monster equipment is not modified. Double Standard means the monster gets twice of what is listed in the table below; 'Triple' or 'Half' should be self-explanatory. A treasure entry of 'None' means the monster has no equipment at all.

Furthermore, any item that is listed in the Monster Manual entry is automatically assigned for free to the monster. Pitlords may replace these items with more efficient ones if they want; in this case, they have to add the price for the removed item to the total treasure. It is also possible to upgrade an existing item.

Please make sure that the equipment is appropriate. That means, it has to benefit the monster in some way because equipment is included in the CR of the monster. On the other hand, you should not equip it with expendables only just because you know it has only this one fight. Think of the monster as a gladiator and try to imagine what it would buy. A list with the monster's equipment must be included in the fight!

Yep. I thought that I had read that. The "+1 stat item" is common enough in Gladius that I figured that anyone that's 8th level could get their hands on it.

I'm confident in his equipment.

Any other things you notice?

heh. It's mostly me. After my dwarven ranger (not a very good character) died in my first miniquest at your hands, I didn't think much of it.

Then came the Sdentch quests. Now Sdentch wasn't all that great either, but she was durable and could really dish the damage. Telin's questlord dice killed her more often than anything else, though (and that's the truth!).

Still, Sdentch went on 3 quests that I ran:

Things that Go Crunch in the Night (Sdentch, Grik, Morgan; EL10) - which I had to quit because of an absence of mine. The first fight - you guys would've won - just a pair of behirs and you all had methods for flight.
Taking Down the Temple (Part I) (Sdentch and Auburn; EL 7) - which you were victorious.
Taking Down the Temple (Part II) (Sdentch and Auburn; EL11) - which you failed.

So overall - you are looking at 1 success, 1 failure and 1 questlord departure for Sdentch.

And I fully agree that dice were really the culprit...

And I get to defend myself for all time...

I was just looking over the dice rolls for Leif. 19 d20 rolls - average was 8.8.

However, if you just look at his will saves: 1, 9, 5, 3

I do enjoy questlording, and I'm glad that people still come to me to run them. I don't particularly like a stigma that says that I am a killer though. The quests at your ECL are supposed to be about a 50% win rate (just on the basis of the mechanics of CR and the way we handle it here). Since I'm hovering at about a 50% success rate - I think that's spot on.

True....I rarely do quests of any kind...usually if they are needed for a build (PrC entry, etc). Did a few more when I was guild-involved, but those days are long gone.

I think the reason you have "the stigma" as you called it is that up until you started dropping people on a consistant basis, quests were basically cakewalks for a lot of folks. The rules on quests started changing right around the time that you really got going as a QL, so you were the first one that really had a consistant kill rate. I agree that you are sitting right where you should be, but because you were really the first QL who was (sitting right where they should be, ratio-wise), you were sort of considered the groundbreaker, so you got the reputation for being the killer QL.

Besides....like I said...it's become a badge of honor now....it's like those t-shirts and bumper stickers WotC sold when they updated Tomb of Horrors for 3.5 (my wife has one)...they all say "I survived the Tomb of Horrors". Same idea....."I survived a TA quest"

Hmm....maybe you should start charging credits for people to be able to add that to their sig or character sheets after they get through a quest LOL

Edit: LOL Abyssal you read my mind.

Just to dispel this myth right off the bat. I only started using the monster encounter tables for rolling encounters relatively recently.

Here's my stats between the two:

Guild Missions/Operations (required to use the roller):

Gaston succeeds (EL10) - Operation
Archdevil Asran fails (EL10) - Operation

Just to dispel this myth right off the bat. I only started using the monster encounter tables for rolling encounters relatively recently.

So you have deliberately picked weaker monsters on occasion? Can you give us an example?

Define "weaker"

And yes - I have designed quests in the past with the abilities of the questors in mind. I always designed them so they would be a challenge but also that they were beatable.

However, I found that I was frequently calling upon the same "vanilla" monsters that I was comfortable with (does everyone recall my trio: Troll and 2 Ogres?). I was running several quests/miniquests per week and found that I was enjoying it less and less because there was little variety.

But you would like an example... hmmm

Okay - 2nd quest I ran. EL3 quest. First encounter: 1 Bugbear, 2 Orcs - standard equipment per the SRD plus a potion of Shield of Faith and a potion of Cure Moderate Wounds for the bugbear (neither of which he elected to use).

First round - PC moves and starts to cast Sleep. Bugbear moves up. Orc moves up and attacks with Falchion. Hits a confirmed crit with the Falchion - concentration check fails.

Second round - PC tries to move away - gets hit and is killed.

Or how about TM's ranger? He was an ECL4 character (Dwarf Ranger 4) and up against a Giant Praying Mantis.

Regarding monster equipment:

It's on the docket for the Council, so we should raise the discussion there (again). I definitely think blackmarket items should be out, and there should probably be some sort of restriction on expendables.

Thanks for the good clean run templer; I have no complaints - the 19SLs was going to be a little hard to overcome. I wish I had fully buffed, but I really figured it wouldn't come to a xbow shot :)

Only correction I see, and it's minor and wouldn't change anything, is bow damage when reduced is 1d3, as listed on sheet, not 1d3-1 (it's a shortbow +1, does 1d4+1; when reduced, does 1d3+1, -1 for str changes = 1d3). In retrospect, rapid shooting every round a shot is fired may have made the difference as well, but the tactics certainly weren't worded specifically for that, and indeed they do make it sound like poisoning (and hitting with the poisoned arrows) is #1 priority, so I appreciate that.

One thing: can you edit the expendables used to include not only the scroll of reduce person and 2 vials of poison, but also the tattoo of synesthete and scroll of shield as well, and arrows?? thanks templer!

Thanks templer! good rematch, waywreth

Does touchsight defeat illusions like mirror image or blur of displacement?

It negates concealment, so blur and displacement are definitely beaten.

Mirror Image... we had a large argument about that a while back. I don't think it should, based on what it says it does, but I got out-voted at the time.

I think that they're figments, and don't exist except as images. They're basically un-disbelievable illusions (which sounds silly now that I say it...)

images dont have "substance" since they break up on any touch (attack etc), sort to speak so all you need is the old close your eyes and the touchsight let you "feel" only the real wizard.

I'm agnostic as to whether touchsight would work, but why would touching a mirror image discharge a touch spell? Most touch spells say something like "Target: Creature or object touched" and a mirror image is neither a creature nor an object.

Erm, no, thats not my argument at all (I don't even recall anyone trying to make an argument like that). My argument was that since Mirror Image is not among those things Touchsight says it defeats (darkness, concealment, invisibility), and since in D&D the word "pinpoint" means to pinpoint the space a creature is in, it does not defeat mirror images. Others argued that if Touchsight is fine enough to defeat concealment, it should pinpoint well enough to defeat Mirror Images as well - a fine enough real-world argument IMO, but not grounded in the rules at all. I see nothing in Touchsight which indicates it can defeat Mirror Image, but I do see explicit lists of what it does defeat, so as far as I'm concerned, it shouldn't defeat Mirror Image.

Umm... So if someone closes their eyes, they are unaffected by Mirror Image, correct? (Per the description of the spell). Touchsight negates concealment and allows pinpointing. Thus, simply by closing their eyes, the touch sight enabled character has no penalties (no 50% miss chance) and conveniently side steps the mirror images. :)

This is true, and in fact its the one argument I never disputed last time. It does though carry the downside that you still won't be able to use targetted effects (i.e. Hold Person, Ego Whip, etc) which require line of sight.

only a few things- first- durin didnt ask for a rebuff of his force screen. iam not saying it's not a good idead to do it - it is, it's that he didnt ask for it (And i did) and doing that without him asking for it is a pretty large improvisation in his favor (it's what won him the fight most likely since without it 5 more arrows from me hit).

second - please roll the confirmation rolls for the arrows for me and durin - hell might get a 20 (and the arrow recover pretty please).

I made mention of this in the fight, but maybe I wasn't clear enough. Durin had PLENTY of pp to spend. To my mind, not refreshing FS would be an even larger improvisation than what I decided to do. I mean, who wouldn't? Put yourself in his shoes. Nobody can predict when fights go on for that long. That's why I'm there is for situations when players aren't there and can't say, "Wow. the highley improbable happend true- but not in the way you imagined - in round 75 when i did the the big smahdown (deep impact) i couldnt have also used psionic weapon since i dont have 2 focuses. so he ended on 0 HP (psionic weapon dmg is 8)

he kept going, raging and whatever fighting to the bitter end until getting dropped by rapids assult at round 77 which dropped him from 0+6+12 to -5 (btw chain gives +6 HP not +7 and rage +12 since we are at level 6 not 7).

if i did the math right it leaves me at the end with 1! hp.
EDIT - in round 76- rapid ressisted the trip (barely) so he didnt take any dmg and ended the fight with 4(regular)+6(chain)+12(rage) HP.

that was 1 hell of a fight.

Round 23-29
Rapid takes the time to refresh biofeedback on round 23 and force screen on round 24 (he can no longer regain his focus when he has 0 pp). He misses all shots.
Durin misses all shots.

Round 75
Rapid 5' steps in closer and swings for the fences, taking advantage of Durin's reckless fighting form by expending his focus for Deep Impact and Power Attacking for 5 {NoAc}{Stan}.

Major problem there TM as rapid wasn't focused to do deep impact.(need to expend his focus to use Deep impact) Easy enough to miss when having 2 sheets of fights tho

EDIT- if i cant use deep impact - becuase of lack of focus it should go to the part of my tactics that deal with what to do if i cant refocus- they say to rage and keep on hitting - so so i used a the rage a bit earlier (in round 75) and with the added bonus from that i still hit with that attack.

I did not expect my opponent to make a ranged fight. I deal more damage and have more HP at the same attack bonus...

1. What the hell, so many arrows and not a single hit? Well, bad luck.

2. However, then in melee. I think my plan could have worked, because Sleipnir is not in the way ... You can move past an ally that let's you through, so I can easily move 10 ft into the tunnel to the left and get an AoO, when Rapid follows me.

actually i had a slightly better to hit becuase of animal affinity and themagister had you reappling force screen But yes i agree that eventally the trip would have won the day most likely.

what you say about squeesing is maybe true if the ally in question is an intelligent and talking human but it's a horse so you need to handle it. Also - you and the horse being large also severly limit exacly where you can go and squeese yourself and the horse 2.

-There is no "squeezing" needed.

-Within the limits, there is one way that works and I'd like to take this. I can move 10ft each move (20 ft heavy terrain), which is enough.

-As much as I see it, letting allies pass looks like the default. It's like an overrun where the defender lets the attacker pass, just more cooperative. If I'd try to run past Sleipnir, it would actively need to try to block me and I see no reason why it would want that.
... Well, at least, that's how I see it, if the pitlord really sees that diffrent (I should be used to diffrent interpretations right now), I'll accept it, if he just missed it because he had to roll out 74 rounds of fighting allready, I'd like to see that ended properly after he had some sleep. :)

Oh, and there is another real mistake:

In round 75, Rapido has no PP left (he used 2 in fight 1 and 2 in this fight allready), so he can't use his Psionic focus anymore.

He could be saying that Touchsight specifically negates "invisibility, darkness and concealment" but it doesn't negate blindness. (Which sounds a little nitpicky to me.)
Nitpicky or not, its what the power says it does. To use targetted spells/powers, you need line-of-sight. Closing your eyes removes that. Touchsight specifies precisely what it does, and neither providing line-of-sight nor negating blindess are among those things. If you want to negate blindess'/closing your eyes' no-LoS effect, use Synsthete (but then you have to deal with Mirror Image again, since Synsthete specifies that it is fooled by illusions just like normal senses are, so its just like you never closed your eyes at all). One way or the other, Touchsight still leaves you with some complications from Mirror Image.

Blinded: The character cannot see. He takes a –2 penalty to Armor Class, loses his Dexterity bonus to AC (if any), moves at half speed, and takes a –4 penalty on Search checks and on most Strength- and Dexterity-based skill checks. All checks and activities that rely on vision (such as reading and Spot checks) automatically fail. All opponents are considered to have total concealment (50% miss chance) to the blinded character.Your touchsight field emanates from you out to 60 feet. You ignore invisibility, darkness, and concealment, though you must have line of effect to a creature or an object to discern it. Sounds clear to me on this one.

Acually i knew i was right...(just takes me a while to figure out where read it... after researching Psions for the last week...)

Once you are psionically focused, you remain focused until you expend your focus, become unconscious, or go to sleep (or enter a meditative trance, in the case of elans), or until your power point reserve drops to 0.

Okay, and a last thing in this melee, that TM should have a look at again...

After he triggers my readied action in round 72, Rapido should act after me in round 73. That however is a minor thing and does not really need fixing, if this would complecate the situation to much.

So finally there are:
-After readied actions you act before the action that triggered it.
-The attack of doom in round 75 has 2d6 damage from psionic weapon. He should have neither this, nor deep impact (the later does not matter).
-One can move past allies. If the pitlord excludes unintelligent creatures from this rule okay, if he does not know it a mistake.

That's all, should I have overlooked something it must be to minor to be called "wrong" in clear conscience.

I already mentioned to themagister the psionic weapon thing and i mentioned what i think about pushing past unintelligent animals and the deep impact as you say doesnt matter becuase all it means is that rage activates a bit earleir- i still hit and do the dmg.

the initiative thing is up to themagister but even if it changed it still doesnt matter since at round 76 i start with 23+6 hp takes 19 dmg from AoA to 4+6 HP but Durin's doesnt manage to trip me (18 VS 17 str check) so he cant do folow up attack. (themagister is wrong in the original version).
i end the round with 4+6+12 (rage) HP and even if durin acts first i still only take 21 dmg bringing me to -17+6+12(so 1! hp) and my attack who would have been from the ground with -4 still hits (7+12+1+2-4 (18) VS 25-2-2-4 (17)) and deals it dmg and kills durin.

btw- doing it this way makes the battle even more epic with both of us ending the fight in the many many negatives.

And it should really not matter because there is not really a reason why my plan sould fail - I mean my horse can let me throu and everything is easy. :)

Uhm - I'm not sure, I can follow your math. The important think is, if I survive the charge from you, then we both rage and then let's see, who wins. :)
PS: Ah, I think I see what you mean. Yes, I had not looked at the removed rounds 76 and 77.
Hm, To bad I used reckless offence there - in my tactic I only wanted to use that against a prone opponent befor moving away (so basicly only when I can't get reached. However, my only contingency on a "plan is failing" is to attack with the greataxe and using my feat sounds reasonable here...
And it should really not matter because there is not really a reason why my plan sould fail - I mean my horse can let me throu and everything is easy. :)

Okay i dug up all the rules about movement - here goes- (map is at round 74)

A) you have move of 20.
B) you are large in hapmered terrin (water) - cut you down to 10.
c)you want to move Beyond the horse and into the tunnel - the horse is large so to get past it you need squeese which reduce your move further to 5 so you can only move 5 feet and you end your move squeesed in with horse- since you cant end a move with another creature unless he is helpless that move is illegal and not possible.
d)you want to the horse to let you move past him (in teh same squere) so you DONT need to squeese BUT - the horse CANT let you get through even if he wants 2 (and i think he wouldn't want 2 since he wouldnt understand what you want) at best - in this situation is similar to moving through a helpless opponent- not activaly ressisting you but not activly helping you -

But even when moving through a squere with a helpless opponent you are still limited in your move if the opponent is very large. (takes 2 squeres to move)

so - he's large so it doesnt matter if he wants 2 or not - he cant let you get past becuase - you are both still large and you still need to squeese (only room for 1 large creature in that area)- when you squeese by him you come back to not having enough room etc etc.

the ONLY way for you to do the move is for the horse to actually move from his square to another squere (to the right) BEFORE you start to move - that is something that he needs to be ordered to do. themagister did handle animal check for that- it failed.

Don't forget:Friend: You can move through a square occupied by a friendly character, unless you are charging. When you move through a square occupied by a friendly character, that character doesn’t provide you with cover.

So if the horse is an ally, it can let you past w/o squeezing. But not if you're charging. But then again, you cannot charge if there's any kind of movement penalty anyway.

And this is where you are wrong. It does not matter how big you are. To quote the rules:

Moving through a Square

Friend
You can move through a square occupied by a friendly character, unless you are charging. When you move through a square occupied by a friendly character, that character doesn’t provide you with cover.
(...)
No squeezing needed.

Now, if Magister gets oversubtle and says that a horse is no character, then he can let it stand as it is.

In any way, I'd like to hear from him. I don't mind loosing this fight, I fought well and overpowering misfortune killed me (at least that's how I see it in my mind. ;) ). But I like fights, that are run to the end.

the SRD - mentioned - You can move through a square occupied by a friendly character - THE srd assumes that the ally in question is another charcter, I.E - an intelligent being- the situation here is that a HORSE has to move out of the way- the horse ISNT a charcter and isnt intelligent so the rule doesnt apply.

also- since in the terrein in question is very limited (10 feet) in order of durin to actually move past the horse (both of them being large) they would both need to occupy the same space (10 feet) so best case scenario he still need double the move to do it.

Sounds clear to me on this one.
In the regard of concealment, it certainly is. Thats not the only penalty for blindness/closing your eyes though, and Touchsight doesn't negate the others (such as not having line-of-sight to anything, as I've said before).

Um... Read the definition of blindness.

The character cannot see. He takes a -2 penalty to Armor Class, loses his Dexterity bonus to AC (if any), moves at half speed, and takes a -4 penalty on Search checks and on most Strength- and Dexterity-based skill checks. All checks and activities that rely on vision (such as reading and Spot checks) automatically fail. All opponents are considered to have total concealment (50% miss chance) to the blinded character. Characters who remain blinded for a long time grow accustomed to these drawbacks and can overcome some of them.

You don't have LOS to your opponent because he has total concealment. No where in the actual definition of blinded is there are reference to Line of Sight.

LOS only comes in with the following:

If you have line of effect to a target but not line of sight he is considered to have total concealment from you. You can’t attack an opponent that has total concealment, though you can attack into a square that you think he occupies. A successful attack into a square occupied by an enemy with total concealment has a 50% miss chance (instead of the normal 20% miss chance for an opponent with concealment).

Since the concealment is negated, presumably so is the lack of LOS, since thats where its coming from.

Actually, if you wanted to get really letter of the law, total concealment doens't say that you lack LOS, but simply that if you do lack LOS then your opponent has totcal concealment. If A then B, does not imply IF B then A. So clearly, targeted spells can be used at range while blinded. :)

However, that's just a silly way to read it. Kinda the same way as reading Touchsight negating Darkness, concealment, invisibility, but not blindness (on things within its range anyways). Functionally, there's no difference between having a black light spell right in front of your eyes and closing them, but the way you are arguing, touchsight wouldn't allow targeting spells in the former, but would in the later.

Target or Targets: Some spells have a target or targets. You cast these spells on creatures or objects, as defined by the spell itself. You must be able to see or touch the target, and you must specifically choose that target. You do not have to select your target until you finish casting the spell.

Thus, if you can target someone & you are not touching them, then you must not be blind. You might be able to make a case for touchsight allowing you to be considered "touching" everything in your field of "vision", but then we'd have to decide whether this means using touchsight automatically delivers range-touch powers to everyone in the area. (shudder)

I wanted to discredit Zevox's claim too, but it doesn't work out.

Valen Sky (Hirumajoe) vs Kervan Sheharath (MindWandererB) and Balrog (Maraxus) is up.

@Hirumajoe - there's certainly a lot of ways I could have read your tactics. You had a few places where "if Balrog does this, do this, but if he does this - do this instead"

In a lot of cases, it seemed to me that I should have been pulling these alternate tactics - but from what I can tell - that wasn't what you wanted by the way you wrote your tactics. This is why you didn't use your entangling ectoplasm to start off with and later on why you didn't use your crystal shard.

This fight is extremely close though - and was decided rather abruptly with the confirmed crit at the end.

Thanks for the run. I have no complaints. Only wish that I wrote slightly more in the tactics and considered a few more possibilities. As it stands, I think Valen got extremely lucky (or maybe unlucky - I'm not sure which with all the 1's and 20's...)

Given the actual rolls, it turns out those alternate tactics really wouldn't have made much of a difference. Certainly not the -2 to hit/-2 to AC on Balrog. Although I think I should've emphasized Force Screen more.

I would have loved to have to run that as a in thread fight. Definitely would've asked for a 30 hp Vigor towards the end considering I was sitting on 20?! pp for most of the fight (I kinda expected to use most of it).

I'll have to remember to add that as a clause for future fights (i.e. If you somehow have an excess of pp and have eliminated 50% of the opposition, use Vigor to maximum...)

Anyways, thanks again.

Well, we all made mistakes. The failure to notice Combat Reflexes could have been fatal for our team. It's all good.

I actually think grappling was the right move. Valen only had a 50/50 odds of hitting with a armor spike. Which implies 50% of your grapple attempts should get through. With a +15 vs +9 modifier, you're looking at 70-80% success rate on the opposed checks. By rights, Balrog should have had Valen in a full nelson by round three with those 4 attacks he made. If he had continued in round four, I'm pretty sure he would have succeeded.

At that point, Valen has to kill him with Crystal Shards or not at all (since a -4 to hit would make Balrog nearly impossible to hit, and Valen only gets away or deals damage roughly 1 in 5 attempts). And hitting with them isn't something that I'd call guaranteed, nor will they necessarily do enough damage.

I think Balrog/Telin just got spooked by Valen's rather impressive luck on the opposed grapple checks. :D

*nods* Yup yup. As I said, Touchsight doesn't give you line-of-sight (aka allow you to see the target) if you don't already have that (as you wouldn't if you're blind/eyes are closed). Its already a damn powerful power (overpowered for its level in fact, I'd say), lets not try to give it abilities it doesn't possess, eh?

Hmm... Zevox does have a good point here.
Two creatures can see each other if they have line of sight to each other. To determine line of sight, draw an imaginary line between your space and the target's space. If any such line is clear (not blocked), then you have line of sight to the creature (and it has line of sight to you). The line is clear if it doesn't intersect or even touch squares that block line of sight. If you can't see the target (for instance, if you're blind or the target is invisible), you can't have line of sight to it even if you could draw an unblocked line between your space and the target's.It doesn't just mention 100% concealment, it mentions sight. Touchsight does not actually allow you to see. It's definitely true that Touchsight doesn't allow you to ignore all the aspects of blindness (for instance, moving at half speed).

On the other hand... touchsight does say that you completely ignore Invisibility. Since you still can't actually see an invisible target, the LOS definition would apply--but the power specifically says that it's ignored. Based on how the effect of the power is described, it seems to be that it should allow you to treat a target as if you had LOS when all you really have is LOE.

I definitely still think it would still defeat Mirror Image. Since the figments are not actually tangible, you would be able to distinguish which of them are fake.

All this brings me back to my 2e days... I was blinded in one fight, but I had a See Invisible prepared. In those days, See Invis let you see anything, no matter how it was hidden, mundanely or magically. So since the entire world was hidden from me, See Invis let me see it. Within a 20' wide path, of course--extreme tunnel vision. My DM hated me.

About the grapples: Valens chance to pass a grapple check is
0.7 (P. that Balrog does not roll a 14+ auto-winning) * 0.7 (P. that Valen is not rolling a 1-6 auto-loosing) * 0.5 (among other events the chances are equal) = 24.5%. Thus one forth to win, three forth for Balrog.

I don't think I can start a grapple with my hooves however, but as the winner I'm not complaining (and it seams dishonorable to demand to be saved from my own stupidity) ;)

That was my reaction, too -- "So Touchsight allows you to ignore darkness, but doesn't give you line of sight because you can't see, so you can't really ignore the darkness?"

Please refer to my post just before Zevox's, where the rules are clear without referring to "line of sight". If you can not see or touch a target: you can not target them. End of story. Touchsight doesn't actually allow you to "see", it just lets you ignore the downsides(read: penalties) of not being able to.

To put it another way:

If a creature was completely immersed in liquid & invisible, I would house-rule(as a GM) that the invisibility was effectively null & void. However, since you still can not see the invisible being(you can merely see the displacement they've caused in the water), you still can not target them with a spell or effect.

To me, the ability to "ignore darkness" (for instance) means that darkness has no effect on whether you can establish line-of-sight as per usual. Otherwise, you're not ignoring it, are you?

So you're saying light sensitivity penalties should be enacted if someone manifests touchsight?(because they are required to "ignore" the darkness) That doesn't make sense at all.

Regarding how touchsight works->

By the rules, Zevox/myself are supported fully. Touchsight negates all concealment, invisibility, & darkness. Blindness is not any of these, though certainly the concealment that is the result of blindness would still be negated.

It doesn't, however, allow you to "see", nor is "seeing" something the same as "viewing something without concealment". All touchsight does is negate invis/darkness/concealment & remove the need to make spot/listen checks within 60 ft.

That's "it".

As one of the Players desided to edit their charater sheet before the fight was finalized... the fight is final and done... thank you

About the dorja thing - it is Enalrged and augmented to ML2 - so it does do 2d6 dmg - it was ruled as such in the court.

i edited the sheet after the original version was done and after you posted the char sheet and results so i dont see the problem- the edit was done to fix a violation since i didnt want to get tagged.

i dont see why i should be penilzed for something done to fix a violation AFTER a fight and the char sheets were posted.

About the fight itself - the vigor stones are augmented to ML2 - so 10 HP - they are also used incorrectly- what they do is give me 10 Temp hp beyond my normal max so from 15 max to 25 max- i cant vigor onver unused vigor so the first vigor stone shouldnt hav ebeen used at round 18 since i still had some Vigor HP (22/15) it should have been used at 25 when i would have dropped to "real" hp, also at round 28 it should be from 8 to 18 hp. (or whatever the result is considering the diffrent time to use vigor, the cover that should have negated some of the hits etc)

also you still havent used cover for lord lorian despite me asking for it in the tactics.
at the very least if you insist on doing point blank shots i still need to get the +1 to dmg per shot which considering the wrong way vigor is used gives me more time Alive and the last shot at round 32 drops LW since he is at 9 dmg at the end of the current version +3 hp dmg(pbs) from 3 shots that hit in the current version + last shot that hit in round 32 that did 5+1(pbs) + 1d6 that wasnt rolled bringing LW to -1 at least.

on another note- the rewards are wrong - it's ECL 4 fight, i have 12.5% alley penalty and 20% political career bonus to xp/gold.

It is generally true that once the character sheet has been copied, there's no real reason to penalize an edit. And it's very common for someone to update their sheet, then have the results come into question--there's really no way to avoid that, and it's not really the player's fault.

Oh, and as stated before and in the rules, powerstones are considered automatically addressed if the user can pass its DC on a take 20. There's never any reason to have to address in the middle of a fight (barring very unusual circumstances).

In the Valen vs Balrog and Kervan fight, Telin indicated the attacks of opportunity made against Valen were due to the activation of the boots of speed. However, I thought use activated magic items didn't provoke attacks of opportunity. (In the case of the fight, it doesn't matter since Valen was ranged attacking which would have just as easily provoked).

Do boots of speed provoke an AoO each round they're used?

I'm quite sure, what Telin wanted to say is, that it was the first attack of the full attack, that provoked the AoO.

Right - if it was misunderstood for the boots - that was not my intent. The AoO Valen was provoking was because of the ranged attacks.

Actually I have had problems opening pages in the Battles thread even with the post per page set to the minimum. I have a feeling that some of the additional graphics that were added to the boards during the last major upgrade last summer (like the button included when you quote someone's post that lets you click on it to see their original post) are the biggest portion of the problem. Rewards are a bit off for Zax:

1500-25% = 1125 - not 1175.
1125 * 1.06 = 1192gp.

Here is an odd question:

When dealing with two percents that modify rewards (ex: Ally rewards + Political Career) do you add the percents together, or apply one, get a total and then apply the other?

No problems with the fight.
TelinArtho

05-01-07, 12:41 PM
As with all cases in percentages that we have here - you add them together then apply them.

So if two opponents each have maxed out allies (and therefore a 25% penalty each), they would both result in 100% rewards.

If one opponent has a 25% ally and the other has 25% political career, the former gets 75% rewards while the latter gets 150% rewards.

Erithmu's rewards then from above discussion.
500 + 43% = 715 xp *1.06 = 758gp

Rewards fixed for Zax but I didn't applied the two % together I first did the ally rewards penalty and after that the Political career bonus I give a bit higher rewards that way I will fix it now for Erithmu.

Edit: Erithmu rewards fixed now

Your math is wrong, doing a bonus and a penalty seperately gives lower rewards (by the penalty percent of the bonus percent of the base) than doing them together.

Teran and Ilendil are up here

Sorry my other fight will be late but will get done tonight, my quest will also catch up this week, the semester just ended and all residents are moved out of the dorm now so I will have more time again.
TelinArtho

05-01-07, 01:45 PM
@Malither - I am confused.

I don't understand why Ilendil would move away from a place where he can hide in order to negate cover. Nowhere in my tactics do I say to move to close the distance nor to negate cover.

However, in my tactics I do specifically mention rehiding by breaking LOS so that I can continue to snipe.

Also, I've mentioned this before, but you do not roll the Time Roll each week. That is specified at the top of the weekly pairings by Pitlords.

[EDIT]Also - you seem to have forgotten to include the trap in the rewards. The trap is a CR1 "ally" so Ilendil loses 25% of his reward; Taren gains 25%. Also - since the trap is a manual reset it should be marked under Items Used.

For the matter of Augmented Summons - the monsters for SMI-IV are listed with augmented stats in the CEF guild thread. I recommend regular casters of those spells to link up with that thread.

For the SNA series - I believe there is one in the Living Tree guild thread that can be pointed to. In addition, the Living Tree also has the effects of each form for Wildshape.

EDIT:

Wildshape
Summon Nature's Ally I & II
Summon Monster I - IV

I should probably add in the SM V-IX as well for all of the evil creatures. I just haven't because I haven't done up the good and neutral creatures for that range... (something about my evil summoners here...).

SNA is a little easier to handle usually though - since there's rarely a template or too many special abilities to work through. Of course, it does become more rampant as you go up in spell level...
MindWandererB

As for TLT, there aren't many augmented summons there because I don't know of many that are in use. If anyone has any requests for that list, I'd be happy to add them.

There are a whopping four late fights this week... Malither's said he'll still finish his, but Etiquette_Gnome's and McJarvis's are still unaccounted for. Judging from the fact that Mithos still has no monster info posted, I'm guessing that one's a lost cause at this point (sorry, Zevox!). The FFA just needs to be finished off--anyone want to help keep that one from hitting week 4? And anything from Etiquette_Gnome?

Edit: Apparently Mithos' monster fight is underway. That still leaves two up in the air, though.

Thanks for the run, Rauul. I can't see anything fight-changing wrong.

I don't think LPG can 5' step and then move in round 4. It doesn't matter though, because LPG could either withdraw or tumble to accomplish the same thing.

Rewards should show 1705gp and 4 charges used for me, I think.

@Maraxus and templer10:

1) Durin moving past Slepnir: A horse is an ally. I don't see any difference between moving through the space of a horse or the space of a friendly ogre. However, there is the matter of limited space. Durin's move speed in armor while suffering the hampering effect of the sewer water is not sufficient to move him completely through Slepnir's space. I haven't looked at the maps yet. If the movement is possible, I'll edit it in.

2) Psionic Weapon: I was flyin' high on caffeine. I'll edit it out.

3) I didn't know that you actually LOSE your focus when you run out of pp. This has the possiblity of changing a LOT (I haven't looked at it yet). ER will rage sooner to make up the difference, but he won't power attack on that first hit, either. He might lose 7 dmg on that initial attack (we'll see), and he might end up not tripped (I'll have to check on that, too).

4) The Readied action: could actually change things once I put Durin in front. I'm nitpicky about stuff like this, and I'll correct it.

5) Using Reckless Offense: yeah, it seemed appropriate. I see no reason to change it.

All right. I'll get to work on it immediately, and you guys should be able to edit your sheets before pairings tomorrow.

Now where's sonofzeal with my Rubicanti fight? {looks around}

Edit:
And the edits are complete. The result changes again. What proved to do the trick was the correct adjudication of the ready action. See it for yourself here. It's pretty good readin'. I'll bet I'm not even half as funny as I think I am. {shrug} As long as I entertain myself, I guess it's all right. :)

Please Druids for all thats holy or unholy.. and for the sake of my sanity.. PLEASE list your Wild shape stats of the shape you most commonly use.. and if you have Augmented summons.. i just wanna shoot you!!!

sorry i just seen it now but i have spotted some Fight altering mistakes and i would like the fight held over if not posible for rauul to fix it before deadline-

in my tactics i spesificly asked to cast SNA3- to summon an augmented dire wolf - you summoned in round 3 an Augmented wolf (NOT a dire wolf) as a level 2 spell (which isnt possible considering wolf is SNA1 summon).

EDIT- in the end of fight summery you noted you did SNA3 but in the fight itself you used stats for augmented wolf not augmented DIRE wold (HUGE diffrence).

as a result of that the wolf in round 5 charges and HITS (it has +13 to hit when augmented) for 1d8+13 dmg and need to roll trip VS LPG nonexsistent chance to remain standing (+13 VS +0).

the dmg is also wrong in round 6 when the wolf hits since id does 1d8+13 not 1d6+3 and in that round the trip roll needs to be made again (i didnt see a roll for LPG at all).

it is also possible the wolf hits in round 7 depend if it was flanking LPG with any other summon, or grimlock or myself (11 in roller +13 +2 flank) considering there are 4 opponents against LPG it's almost a certeinty and that means 1d8+13 dmg also.

in addition - i asked in my tactic for the summoned hipogryph to ado a dive attack which it seemed to do in round 4 (going by the bonuses added in the roller) but you seem to have forgotten that when you do a dive attack and hit with a calw or talon attack it deals double dmg.

beyond that - i asked in my tactics for myself when wildshaped to go for grapple - it's not clear if you did it or not - if you did some miss's are hits and grapple checks need to be done (and then some miss's from summons are hit s since LPG dont have dex against them etc) but from the rolls and the rolls for damage i think you didnt do it- if you dont want to totally redo the fight iam and you want to go with just strait attack i can live with it but then you need to roll many many MANY more attacks since a Deinonychus has 4 attacks per round (talons as primary and 2 foreclaws and a bite as secondery).

also a Deinonychus has much better to hit then you gave it.

ther probably are more modifications due to LPG being tripped in any of those attacks or grappled etc but doesnt really matter since all of those combined means i killed LPG several times over by the time the fight is done.

Yeah... one of the little things I'd like to do if I get this gig full-time is add a digit or two to all the precalculated figures. Rounding to only two decimal places isn't so great when you're dealing with values in the thousands.

As for the river, its only 5 feet deep, and my horse is 10 feet tall (thanks to the wierd cube spacing rules in this game). He could surely wade through it with ease (I know I've permitted that at 4x movement cost for large creatures in the past).

note when it does a single attack it attacks with talons with +7 attack bonus for 1d8+4 dmg.

when it does FULL ATTACK- it does Talons +7 melee (1d8+4) and 2 foreclaws +2 melee (1d3+2) and bite +2 melee (2d4+2) - so 4 attacks per round.

About the dire wolf and other stuff- ill do it round by round -

first- the stats on it when i already added the augmentation from the feat-

round 5
the dire wolf charges LPG- the roller reads - 1d20+7 VS AC 25, roll is 13 so you got a miss. the roll was made with REGULAR wolf stats NOT dire wolf - the correct roll should be 1d20+13+2 (to hit bonus + charge) = 13+13+2=28 VS AC 25 = HIT = that hit is 1d8+13 dmg which it alone Means LPG dies before he kills me - potentially LPG is also tripped that round.

round 7

when LPG is tripped in round 5 that means in all other rounds he has -4 to AC (prone) - so at round 7 - the wolf has in the roller - result of 11 (the roll itself) +13 (dire wolf attack bonus) = 24 VS AC of 25-4(prone) = HIT for 1d8+13 dmg.

elrick - first attack should be with talons so +7 not +3 and is against LPG while he is prone - so the confirmation roll is 14(dice)+7 VS 25-4= HIT so it should be aconfirmed crit.

i am also missing 3! more attacks since it was a full attack.

round 8

dire Wolf has in the roller 9 in the dice + 13 (attack bonus)=22 VS ac 25-4 = HIT (22 VS 21) for 1d8+13 dmg.

grimlock has in the roller total of 21 VS 25-4= Hit for 1d8+4 dmg.

elrick - missing 3 more attacks since it was a full attack.

to sum up 3 more hits by the dire wolf, 1 more hit from grimlock, a hit became a confirmed crit and 6 more attacks that need to be rolled and all in all just from the bonuses to dmg from missing hits i killed LPG once and once more.

p.s might be more hits if you consider flanking.
