| TelinArtho04-04-07, 02:05 PM | Fights of the Week: April 4th Please don't edit the sheet after the deadline or you will lose the match. Rules of Gladius All that you need to know is written in the Rules of Gladius. It could be useful also to give a look to the Court Decisions Part 1 and Part 2. Please do not make fake accounts or insult the Elders. Pairings GM Caterane will pair the active Characters of Gladius after the deadline. Make sure that your character is not in prison. Pitlording You should use the CoCo Dice Roller (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com) for the fight. If you need it, there is a nice template ready to use that will help. You could find the Battle Map Tag Generator (http://www.hwx.it/coco) for dynamic Maps very useful. You must post a link to your fight in this thread when it is complete. If you need a quick and dirty tool to calculate distances between two points (in 2-D or 3-D), this tool (http://wormhole.ath.cx/coco/coco_dist.php) should suffice. Another useful link is the Quick Access tables for XP and Gold. If a fight needs to be rerun, the Pitlord has to inform the Pitlords account. He cannot react to requests from Players because the other player and the pitlord might disagree. He has no time to read the fight and the discussion. Please keep that in mind. PMs from players with rerun requests won't have an impact. Recent News and Developments The Iron Man tournament Round 1.2 is this week - good luck to all involved Comments & Concerns Post any comments or concerns for this weeks fights in this thread. Be kind and courteous to your fellow posters, and don't feed the pitlords. Please remember that they do hard work and consume a lot of time to let you play. Above all, have FUN! If you have questions or comments on any of the changes, please make your posts be heard in the Council of Gladius! |
| MindWandererB04-04-07, 02:15 PM | A reminder to everyone that I'm handling pairings this week, so bear with me. Don't PM my personal account with anything you want me to see in the next several hours, because I won't be logged in to it. This also means that the guildhall post will be delayed a bit. |
| Erithmu04-04-07, 03:07 PM | @Telin: Malik's MQ ... Funny! ... but very on the line of "Telin style questing." |
| TelinArtho04-04-07, 03:26 PM | @Telin: Malik's MQ ... Funny! ... but very on the line of "Telin style questing." Well what else would a "trading company" of far reaches have need for 4 cockatrices...? Thanks for the compliments though. Good luck to Malither76 on improving my success/failure ratio for miniquests and quests (which for those counting: Quests: 10 failures, 5 unfinished or transferred to another questlord, 10 successes. Miniquests (since January 2006): (ECL=EL) 5 successes, 3 failures; (ECL-1=EL) 5 successes, 0 failures; (ECL-2=EL) 10 successes, 0 failures |
| Macbrea04-04-07, 03:55 PM | Yeah, I would probably be just as bad if I ran miniquests. I think my monster kills is actually pretty high at this point. |
| TelinArtho04-04-07, 04:00 PM | Now that I've actually looked it over - my miniquests apparently haven't been "too" bad... (though I'm sure Zevox, ToK and Pittbull might disagree...) |
| Pitlords04-04-07, 04:16 PM | Pairings are done (I think... please check for errors!). Credits will be posted in a few minutes. |
| TelinArtho04-04-07, 04:17 PM | The Battlesong Duet should be EL7 I believe. |
| McJarvis04-04-07, 04:17 PM | Maya Redwine[ECL5] (MindWandererB) miniquests for a cohort: Erithmu [Miniquest] that probably shouldn't be listed as ECL 3 :) edit-> General Zaroff is intercepting for PSI, as well. |
| Pitlords04-04-07, 04:31 PM | Credits: +4: MindWandererB, SauroGrenom +3: Erithmu, Tellish_of_Ket +2: Abyssal Stalker, McJarvis, templer10 +1: Etiquette Gnome, Horatius, Macbrea, Maraxus, Rauul, Sjiggie, sonofzeal, TelinArtho, TheMagister, Vathelokai +0: Zevox -2: NiQil |
| Pitlords04-04-07, 04:34 PM | The Battlesong Duet should be EL7 I believe.Corrected. Fortunately an easy one. :D Maya Redwine[ECL5] (MindWandererB) miniquests for a cohort: Erithmu [Miniquest] that probably shouldn't be listed as ECL 3 :) edit-> General Zaroff is intercepting for PSI, as well.Check again. Both are there and correct. CEF is now completely without a guildmaster, since Cat was lax about replacing his backup. I remind all CEF members that if someone doesn't do their bookkeeping by Tuesday, they forfeit all income for the week. That being said... with Cat gone and Pittbull missing for a long time, I feel empowered to install a new "backup" guildmaster for CEF. (Which may turn out to be the real deal if Cat stays gone.) PM Guildlords or my personal account if you would consider this. |
| McJarvis04-04-07, 04:38 PM | Erm..sorry, I'm looking at your post in the Battles of Gladius. I'll just assume you're "main draft" is in characters and correct... |
| TelinArtho04-04-07, 04:53 PM | Bulgar's tactics vs Lord Lorian have been sent. Tactics for the fight between Berri and Mohmat will have to wait until the overspending/crafting issue is resolved. |
| Macbrea04-04-07, 04:53 PM | @Eluria: Qwogi Drellfarrow's Unknown monster posted. |
| Pitlords04-04-07, 04:56 PM | Erm..sorry, I'm looking at your post in the Battles of Gladius. I'll just assume you're "main draft" is in characters and correct... They're the same. Maybe you need to hit refresh? General Zaroff is front and center, and Maya does indeed belong in ECL 3 for this MQ. (Cat fluctuates with MQs: sometimes he lists them by ECL, and sometimes by EL. IMO, listing it by EL helps ensure the QL gets it right.) |
| Macbrea04-04-07, 05:12 PM | @Tellish: Tactic's for Relanex is sent! Evokers on last fight sometimes have far too many damage spells available! |
| TelinArtho04-04-07, 05:13 PM | Only when they get scared to death in week 2... |
| templer1004-04-07, 05:14 PM | Credits: +5: MindWandererB +4: SauroGrenom +3: Erithmu, Tellish_of_Ket +2: Abyssal Stalker, McJarvis, templer10, Vathelokai +1: Etiquette Gnome, Horatius, Macbrea, Maraxus, Rauul, Sjiggie, sonofzeal, TelinArtho, TheMagister +0: Zevox -2: NiQil I run 4 fights with 2 chars active = 4 credits no? (all were with roller and maps btw). |
| MindWandererB04-04-07, 05:17 PM | I run 4 fights with 2 chars active = 4 credits no? (all were with roller and maps btw). This is for this week, in which you have only 2 fights. You got those credits last week. And roller/maps aren't worth credits anymore, I don't think. |
| templer1004-04-07, 05:19 PM | This is for this week, in which you have only 2 fights. You got those credits last week. And roller/maps aren't worth credits anymore, I don't think. ahhhh- always thought you got for the last week- and if the roller and the maps arent worth credits they should- since without them the pitlord has no accountability almost and there is no objective way to check if mistakes were made. |
| Macbrea04-04-07, 05:19 PM | Only when they get scared to death in week 2... Yup... Hmm, that level 7 mob fight is going to take some thinking.... I will send tactics later tonight on that. |
| Zevox04-04-07, 05:34 PM | ahhhh- always thought you got for the last week- and if the roller and the maps arent worth credits they should- since without them the pitlord has no accountability almost and there is no objective way to check if mistakes were made. Neither rollers nor maps are required anyway, though not using them is heavily frowned upon unless you provide coordinates and breakdowns of rolls (as far as I know, every currently active pitlord does either use those tools or provide that information). You should've seen what happened when Cat tried to make online rollers mandatory - we had a virtual revolt on our hands, with all of two members agreeing with Cat and a number of the rest outright saying they were leaving if the rule went into effect. Anyway, map credits were removed not too long ago because they were too easy a way to obtain credits. Instead, prison reports are now worth more (used to be worth .1 credit per report, now worth .3). ...and in other news, the pairingsmaker does not like me this week. Arden Tarmik (Zevox) vs. Durin (Maraxus) : templer10 [Cavern] Deja vu. We just had this fight a month ago at level 5 - same map and everything. I'd like to think the level will make a difference and change the result, but I'm not that optimistic. Ceilia Durrol (Zevox) vs. The Corruptor (Rauul) vs. Izumi (Macbrea) vs. Balrog (Maraxus) : Erithmu [Cavern] [All-vs-All] Ouchy. A spellcaster with a cohort and two melee monsters in the smallest map we have? I sense Ceilia's first loss coming. Especially without her Hippogriff. I'll have to come up with some truly fantastic tactics to please the Red Knight to pull her out of this one with her record intact. Erithmu Darkmane (Erithmu) vs. Mithos Durrol (Zevox) : Tellish_of_Ket [Arena] Okay, so this one's not too bad. Chancey, but not too bad. Zevox |
| Rauul04-04-07, 06:11 PM | @Erithmu..... Corrupters Tactics sent.. 1 undeafeated, 2 melee monsters vs the little old human who really wishes he had brought his undead this week... O-well Good luck.. will be a ticket seller for sure... |
| Milov04-04-07, 06:12 PM | Tactics for both Ihdald and Mask are out. Good luck to all involved in fights with them! |
| MindWandererB04-04-07, 06:15 PM | @Vath: Setup for Denshi vs. Monsters is up. Three Large bipeds. Apparently, Denshi doesn't have quite every knowledge.... |
| Erithmu04-04-07, 06:17 PM | Ugga ... Ok; Tactics for me will be out tomorrow. @Macbrea: Evoker mage vs Evoker Druid ... both on last fights ... interesting, I might have an answer (that and I really want to level) @Zevox: Yea that char isn't going to be all that amazing for a while. @MWB: Your questing for an Ally, Maya's MQ has to be ECL 5 (see rules in Questing Rules) @All v All fight: Fight will be run Sat afternoon, I have 1/4 |
| templer1004-04-07, 06:30 PM | Tactics for Lord lorian vs Bolgar sent- good luck to burning through 60+ HP at level 4..... |
| hogarth04-04-07, 06:33 PM | @MWB: Your questing for an Ally, Maya's MQ has to be ECL 5 (see rules in Questing Rules) Certainly that is the case for Diplomacy allies (EL=ECL), and it's not the case for Handle Animal allies (EL=allies' CR). I don't know about Leadership cohorts, though. |
| Erithmu04-04-07, 06:37 PM | Certainly that is the case for Diplomacy allies (EL=ECL), and it's not the case for Handle Animal allies (EL=allies' CR). I don't know about Leadership cohorts, though. From Questing Rules: iQuests: MiniQuests are similar to arena fights but they follow some of the rules for Quests. A MiniQuest takes one week to complete, in-and off-game, and they do not cost a credit. However, going on a MiniQuest counts as two character activations! Because of the single week, the 1/3 rule for spellcasting and items applies in MiniQuests, too. If you miniquest for something other than roleplay, the EL of the MiniQuest is always equal to your ECL. Roleplay Miniquests may have any EL (your choice). |
| MindWandererB04-04-07, 06:42 PM | And yet, that's explcitly contradicted by:If you quest for an ally, the EL must be at least as high as the CR of the to-be ally (and the ally is never the opponent that you have to defeat). Can we get a comment from someone who's been around long enough to know what the intent is? |
| Erithmu04-04-07, 06:45 PM | ok ... but doesn't CR refer to monsters, where a cohort is calculated via ECL? |
| NiQil04-04-07, 06:47 PM | @ MWB: Couple of ECL 3 pairings issues: Methos and Tagg fought last week, so need to be repaired. Caspian has a monster fight, just as he did last week. An easy solution would be to swap Caspian and Methos so that Methos ends up with the monster fight and Caspian fights Tagg. |
| Pitlords04-04-07, 06:53 PM | @ MWB: Couple of ECL 3 pairings issues: Methos and Tagg fought last week, so need to be repaired. Caspian has a monster fight, just as he did last week. An easy solution would be to swap Caspian and Methos so that Methos ends up with the monster fight and Caspian fights Tagg. Fixed. Would have been that way anyway, but for a coin flip. |
| Macbrea04-04-07, 06:58 PM | Izumi's tactics have been sent for all vs all fight. Easy enough! |
| templer1004-04-07, 07:29 PM | tactics for elrick in the 4 way brawl will be sent tommarow - that a mess of a fight- evoker VS psionic version of evoker VS melee monster VS druid which is also evokerish. going to have to think about this one expect cat length tactics (my max so far is 2.5 PM's - lets beat it lol). |
| Zevox04-04-07, 08:28 PM | @ ToK - Tactics for Mithos Durrol (vs Erithmu Darkmane) have been PMed. I'm feeling quite confident about that one, actually. More so than earlier. @ Templer10 - Tactics for Arden Tarmik (vs Durin) have been PMed. Likewise feeling a little more confident about that, though its still a tough one. @ Erithmu - Tactics for Ceilia will be written and sent tomorrow. Thats too complicated/tough of a fight for writing this late. @Zevox: Yea that char isn't going to be all that amazing for a while. Which one? Mine, or yours? Zevox |
| McJarvis04-04-07, 08:35 PM | Tactics for Zaroff sent. |
| Erithmu04-04-07, 08:51 PM | Which one? Mine, or yours? Mine |
| Erithmu04-04-07, 08:56 PM | Bump on the question of the necessity for a certain ECL for a cohort. (IE: ECL -2 or ECL?) |
| NiQil04-04-07, 09:10 PM | @ Horatius: Tactics for Caspian sent via PM @ Etiquette_Gnome: Tactics for Kronos sent via PM @ sonofzeal: Tactics for Methos sent via PM @ templer10: Tactics for Silas sent via PM |
| TaggIIV04-04-07, 09:18 PM | Tactics for Tagg sent to Horatius |
| Yitzi04-04-07, 10:05 PM | Tactics for Lightwolf sent. |
| Sutro04-04-07, 11:04 PM | @templer: Just be glad the psychic evoker has had all three of his fights this 3FC be multi-man and his PPs now suck. :p |
| Vathelokai04-05-07, 12:37 AM | @MWB: Tactics for Denshi vs horde of unknown spell resistant, weapon resistant, energy immune, rending, raking death sent. :D @ToK: MQ up tomorrow evening, probably late. |
| TheMagister04-05-07, 03:14 AM | Aight, Abyssal - Tactics for TBD vs. a Chaos Beast sent via PM. TM |
| TelinArtho04-05-07, 10:53 AM | Berri the Friendly's tactics vs Mohmat have been sent to Sjiggie. Good luck to my opponent. I have only received tactics from Milov for Ihdald. |
| TelinArtho04-05-07, 11:13 AM | Nevermind - fixed it. |
| Erithmu04-05-07, 11:16 AM | @ToK: Tactics for Torel sent. |
| Hirumajoe04-05-07, 11:33 AM | @Telin: Just sent tactics for Valen vs Ihdald. Good luck to the Sea Elf. Although I'm thinking he doesn't really need it with that Ape ally. Good ranged + Good Grappling = not so good for Valen... :) |
| TelinArtho04-05-07, 11:35 AM | Received. Finishing up my fight with Rubicanti and Kervan from last week first though. |
| hogarth04-05-07, 11:39 AM | @Telin: Just sent tactics for Valen vs Ihdald. Good luck to the Sea Elf. Although I'm thinking he doesn't really need it with that Ape ally. Good ranged + Good Grappling = not so good for Valen... :) On the other hand, Valen has had some amazing luck with criticals vs. Milov's Ventr the Dreamer. Maybe the dice gods will assist you again! |
| Etiquette_Gnome04-05-07, 11:42 AM | @McJarvis: Tactics for Sabra sent. Man, I hate relying on luck, because even when I don't it manages to screw me over anyway. @Niqil: Tactics received, awaiting the other set of tactics to begin. |
| Zevox04-05-07, 11:45 AM | @ MWB - Just noticed the random event for the week and sent you the EHTC's decision. About time we got some benefit from one of those things - they've kicked us often enough, what with all the bandits and pirates and whatnot. Zevox |
| waywreth04-05-07, 11:48 AM | Tactics for Matthis in: Matthis Dar'ath III (waywreth) vs. The Mask Man (Milov) vs. Weapon (Sutro) vs. Elrick Flamebrother (templer10) : SauroGrenom [Forest] [All-vs-All] sent via PM to Sauro. |
| Erithmu04-05-07, 11:59 AM | @ToK: Tactics for myself are sent out. @MWB: miniquest coming soon. |
| Hirumajoe04-05-07, 12:08 PM | On the other hand, Valen has had some amazing luck with criticals vs. Milov's Ventr the Dreamer. Maybe the dice gods will assist you again! Very true. Although I think that might be on a character basis, not a Manager basis. Valen has fought Ihdald before and didn't do so hot then... Statistically speaking, I believe Valen is going to lose. There's more hp to get through with comparable AC's and to-hits plus he's got a melee ally. As long as they stay together, Valen can't exploit his greater melee capability over Ihdald. And I see no reason why they shouldn't. My prediction is there will be alot of slow moving up until first contact, at which point its all over in under 5 rounds, one way or the other. Three 17.5 average damage bow shots a round tends to do that. :) |
| Horatius04-05-07, 01:08 PM | Caspian vs Tagg is done. I need a ruling on whether or not a character can tap a tattoo with an object in hand. This may change the outcome of the fight. |
| Zevox04-05-07, 01:42 PM | @ Erithmu - Tactics for Ceilia Durrol (ECL 7 All vs All) have been PMed. May be Red Knight and the dice gods smile on her, because shes going to need it to pull that one off. Zevox |
| hogarth04-05-07, 01:56 PM | @ Erithmu - Tactics for Ceilia Durrol (ECL 7 All vs All) have been PMed. May be Red Knight and the dice gods smile on her, because shes going to need it to pull that one off. I've found that it's pretty hard to win an "all vs. all" or "hunter" fight where everyone gangs up on the same character (although it's a little flattering, I guess). |
| Macbrea04-05-07, 02:03 PM | Yeah, in that particular fight. It sits like this: Ceilia = most tricks up sleeve and no losses at level 7. Corrupter = Very low hps with two fighting style allies. Balrog = Ranged option plus good melee Izumi = Very high damage but low hps My estimate is: Corrupter will die first -- Outright damage Izumi will die second -- Secondary damage from balrog and Ceilia Ceilia will die third -- Attrition of spells and having to goto melee Balrog will win Just my guestimate of that fight. |
| Zevox04-05-07, 02:04 PM | I've found that it's pretty hard to win an "all vs. all" or "hunter" fight where everyone gangs up on the same character (although it's a little flattering, I guess). *shrugs* Its also impossible to know if everybody is going to be ganging up on you. Ceilia may be undefeated, but this is definitely not the type of fight she is suited for - Balrog, on the other hand, definitely is suited for this type of fight, so he may be seen as the chief threat to bring down instead. Plus all vs alls like this frequently have everyone choose to take out the weakest foe first to make sure they get more than loser rewards, and in this case thats the Corruptor, being as hes a low-hp spellcaster in an enclosed map. Ceilia's kinda in between those two - not nearly as vulnerable as Corruptor, but not as big a physical threat as Balrog. Ceilia does have a chance to reduce the threats to her quite quickly (not going to say anything more specific, since the others haven't all sent tactics), actually, though it requires some lucky dice. She can pull off a win in this fight, its just going to be very, very hard to do. Zevox |
| MindWandererB04-05-07, 02:22 PM | @ MWB - Just noticed the random event for the week and sent you the EHTC's decision. About time we got some benefit from one of those things - they've kicked us often enough, what with all the bandits and pirates and whatnot.Thanks... but for future reference, please send guild stuff to Guildlords. I'm wearing four hats right now: Guildlords, guildmaster (TLT), Pitlords, and my personal account. Since I don't have the editing privileges Cat did, I can only make the appropriate changes when I'm logged into the appropriate account. This applies to everyone: if a fix is needed for pairings, the roster, etc., send it to Pitlords.*shrugs* Its also impossible to know if everybody is going to be ganging up on you. Ceilia's kinda in between those two - not nearly as vulnerable as Corruptor, but not as big a physical threat as Balrog.FFA strategy depends on confidence, I think. If a player thinks they're going to lose no matter what, they'll go after the weakest link to raise their lower rewards. But if a player thinks ther have a good chance of winning, they usually go after the biggest threat first. |
| Sjiggie04-05-07, 02:28 PM | @Rauul tactics Tralamin sent AEtiqutte_Gnome tactics Anastria sent |
| templer1004-05-07, 02:49 PM | Tactics for the frigging mess that is Elrick famlebrother VS lot of nasty peeps sent. |
| Rauul04-05-07, 02:52 PM | Just wondering... but since you all think that the corrupter will die first.... if he don't die or is 2nd, 3rd... will you wear a picture that saids Corrupted accross it for a 3fc... :duel: but yea with all honestly looking at those hps and ac's and what tricks they have... i am not looking forward to the out come of this battle... but you never know :schemes: |
| MindWandererB04-05-07, 03:06 PM | Uh oh... Is www.hwx.it down for anyone but me? |
| TelinArtho04-05-07, 03:09 PM | Nope - its down for me as well. Luckily - I just finished up the fight between Rubicanti and Kervan and the Xill and Pudding. Unfortunately - a series of rather nasty rolls spelled the end... |
| MindWandererB04-05-07, 03:21 PM | Nope - its down for me as well. Luckily - I just finished up the fight between Rubicanti and Kervan and the Xill and Pudding. Unfortunately - a series of rather nasty rolls spelled the end... Yeah... I blame myself for not picking up on the Xill. Had I gone with archery instead of Magic Missiles, we might have been able to pull that off. And those rolls didn't help, either. |
| TelinArtho04-05-07, 03:30 PM | Just curious - but what did you think it was? |
| MindWandererB04-05-07, 03:37 PM | Just curious - but what did you think it was? Xorn. The other medium, multi-armed, CR 6 outsider. @Vath: I'll start your monster fight when Dracazar's site goes back up, assuming it's no later than tomorrow afternoon. Otherwise it'll be Monday... and if it's still down by then, I guess I'm going to have to do this with Invisible Castle and some other way of mapping. |
| Zevox04-05-07, 03:43 PM | Just wondering... but since you all think that the corrupter will die first.... if he don't die or is 2nd, 3rd... will you wear a picture that saids Corrupted accross it for a 3fc... :duel: Unlike Izumi and Balrog, Ceilia doesn't have a picture to do that to :P . Uh oh... Is www.hwx.it down for anyone but me? Down for me to... never a good sign, but its been down before and come back up. Hopefully this is just another of those instances. Zevox |
| TelinArtho04-05-07, 03:44 PM | Well, in case it is down for an extended period, don't forget about InvisibleCastle. |
| Zevox04-05-07, 03:45 PM | Well, in case it is down for an extended period, don't forget about InvisibleCastle. Problem is, thats not just the roller, thats the mapper too. Some pitlords rely on that thing - I know I do when I'm pitlording. Zevox |
| MindWandererB04-05-07, 03:56 PM | Yeah... I don't mind using IC, but the mapper is incredibly useful. Without it, I'd probably use Paint Shop instead, keeping the "pins" as movable objects. Not the most elegant solution, and my Photobucket account can only store so many maps made that way. |

| templer1004-05-07, 05:29 PM | vathelokai: the tactics for all sides in Harbinger + LPG VS nymphnalith has been sent last week and posted by rauul end of last week post is here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=11967671&postcount=730) |
| Maraxus04-05-07, 08:42 PM | Erithmu: Thanks for noting that point. *reply* Yes, the free for all is definitly interesting. Balrog and Itzumi can both deal lots of melee damage and can take quite a bit - but are less flexible. Celia can choose from her spells a bit to get some small advantage. With the right spells, she can surly reach the two warriors' combat strength. Corrupter will likely seek to stay out of harms way, that invisibility might be useful for him, but trying to only hide away untill he can cleanup is dangerous for him and deadly for his cohort. If I was to estimate this fight without knowledge (I'm not saying anything jet ;) ) I'd expect Balrog and Itzumi to go straight for Corrupter and likely end heavily wounding each other. Last time Itzumi won that duel and Balrogs last level did not bring him much power jet, so this might turn out the same this time - but not without leaving Izumi open to a fully prepared Celia. After this Corrupter and Celia duel this out and my bet's go slightly on Celia because Corrupter had to spend his effords to that point mainly to hide away from Izumi and Balrog. Looks bad for me. ;) Another possible Szenario is a 2-fight situation, where the agressive forces go for the casters first - but for diffrent. 2 independent fights break out and the two winners than attack each other. More honorable and better odds for Balrog, too. Here anybody could win with a slight disadvantage for Corrupter who just has not the continous power for 2 opponents. Maybe his cohort has, so this is possible, too, but unlikely. (All statements made from memory so I could be confusing thinks) |
| TheMagister04-05-07, 08:45 PM | It's very interesting how everyone seems to feel that their character is the one with the iffy chance of winning. Don't get me wrong: FFAs are chancy by their very nature. ... My money's on Ceilia, all things being equal (which, when dice are involved, they never are). If Balrog gets good dice, he takes it, though. TM |
| Maraxus04-05-07, 08:56 PM | My bet's on Izumi. Balrog just is not yet equipped for that level (I leveled up after the last fight most noteable, I should be using a lance now that I have martial weapon prof. but I did not buy one before) Celia seemed to have had a tough first fight the 3FC, her primary mount is dead and some spells are used. Corrupter as I said does not have to standing power for two opponents after another and on average you need that in a 4 player free for all. |
| SauroGrenom04-05-07, 09:25 PM | Many of you, I got tactics for the Uber-Free for all Fight in the forest of all ungodly places. Everyone's tactics are in. I'll do what I can on this. I expect it to take longer than usual. I typically get fights done on sunday. I'll try and get started early, but I may end up not finishing this one till monday. |
| McJarvis04-05-07, 10:04 PM | @MWB & EG: I will see to running my fight tomorrow. I need to consult various rules before doing so, though. edit-> Nevermind, I will be running it Saterday night. |
| Zevox04-05-07, 11:28 PM | @Maraxus, Zevox, Rauul: Replies sent for the FFA. Reply sent. @Macbrea: Good job on being overly clear, you get the prefight cookie :cookie: Bah, thats just because he has the simplest character of the lot :P . Izumi has all of two good strategic options - melee and sundering. And tripping I guess, but with Ceilia having ride to counter that and Balrog being large and a quadruped shes not likely to get far with it against anyone but Corruptor. My bet's on Izumi. Really? She can deal damage, sure, but with her mediocre attack bonus vs the ACs Ceilia and Balrog sport, and her having only mediocre hp? I just don't see things going her way. My money is on either Balrog or Ceilia - I more or less see it as Macbrea does, and the deciding factor will be the dice on a couple of Ceilia's spells and the attacks between Balrog and Ceilia in the endgame. Zevox hehe you all keep underestimating the corrupter... :) Acually i am with Zevox on the chances of the Corrupter pulling out anywhere but a dead last finish... but i still wanna see pictures with corrupted across them if he does pull something out of his butt.. Oh and dun worry Zevox.. i can find and paint you a 3fc picture :) I looked at it when it was drawn... and if it was anyplace besides the shoebox caverns or temple... But hey i wrote the longest tactics i have ever written and i wrote the to win... So we will see who is the winner and who is the loosers.. Wonders why the Casino isn't picking up bets on this fight... Ironman should be a Battle royal and where the last 6 survivors advance... :) |
| MindWandererB04-06-07, 02:25 AM | All right! The roller and mapper are back online, for now. Looks like I get to run that fight before the weekend after all. |

| templer1004-06-07, 03:49 AM | I think I'll win. :) hop you took into account that wizards magic missile wand- If i remmber how you usually play at leaset there's even money some pps/spell levels or HP's on both you and matthis will be spent before someone choose to deal with poor old druid me. btw- how you deal with matthis gazzilion scrolls of mirror image - that 1 gave me headachs. (everyone already sent tactics btw). |

| Erithmu04-06-07, 12:41 PM | Alright ... ECL7 FFA Tactics are up ... Starting fight right now with the following predictions. First Dead: Izumi Second Dead: Ceilia Third Dead: Corruptor Winner: Balrog |
| Zevox04-06-07, 02:06 PM | Alright ... ECL7 FFA Tactics are up ... Starting fight right now with the following predictions. First Dead: Izumi Second Dead: Ceilia Third Dead: Corruptor Winner: Balrog Not sure if you'll see this before the fight is over 'Rith, but I just looked at the rolls, and noticed no Blindness or Command saves from Izumi in engaging with Ceilia. I just wanted to point out that her sundering Ceilia's holy symbol doesn't prevent her casting those since they don't require a divine focus - the only spell I asked to cast that does prevent is Sanctuary. Zevox |
| Macbrea04-06-07, 02:19 PM | That's ok, I am trying to figure out round 4. Izumi made an AoO but no actual attack on her turn. |
| Horatius04-06-07, 02:27 PM | Caspian vs Tagg is done. I need a ruling on whether or not a character can tap a tattoo with an object in hand. This may change the outcome of the fight. Edited. No change in outcome. |

Zevox*Mutters* Looks at round 11 *Erase Erase Erase* That's ok, I am trying to figure out round 4. Izumi made an AoO but no actual attack on her turn.It is at the end of round 3, I forgot to hit + ... I normally just skip editing stuff cause it messes up the mojo. |
| Zevox04-06-07, 02:32 PM | *Mutters* Looks at round 11 *Erase Erase Erase* Better to have caught it at round 11 rather than round 20 or so, right? :) Zevox |
| Macbrea04-06-07, 02:34 PM | Well, it might not be that bad. With izumi with a 20ft reach. If she makes the save 1d20+9 vs dc 17. It might be hard to actually run far from her. |
| Macbrea04-06-07, 02:35 PM | And hopefully the big pitlord hammer of doom will come down on the delayers! This isn't a stand about and smoke cigars type arena! |
| Macbrea04-06-07, 02:38 PM | Will kind of suck if I fail that save. As my tactics will end up killing the horse I think. Basicly, if blinded I attack the square that attacked me. |
| Erithmu04-06-07, 02:44 PM | And hopefully the big pitlord hammer of doom will come down on the delayers! This isn't a stand about and smoke cigars type arena! Yea .. that was ticking me off, you will see the penalty I imposed when I post the fight ... quick lunch recharge and then back into the fight ... well maybe roll the will save first. Fort: 20 .. ahhh less mess to clean up Now to that command Will: 9 .. ok clean up from there. |
| Macbrea04-06-07, 02:48 PM | Easy clean up! eilia Ceilia/hoof/hoof/Bite 1d20+12=17 1d20+4=14 1d20+4=7 1d20-1=4 Miss... even while prone She stands and attacks on next round drawing 2 AoOs.. that need to be rolled. |
| Erithmu04-06-07, 02:50 PM | Easy clean up! eilia Ceilia/hoof/hoof/Bite 1d20+12=17 1d20+4=14 1d20+4=7 1d20-1=4 Miss... even while prone She stands and attacks on next round drawing 2 AoOs.. that need to be rolled.I actually just bump rolls, and I work in a word doc, so I just have to move some rolls around. I'll get to it. Relax I know what I am doing (most of the time). |
| Rauul04-06-07, 02:52 PM | And hopefully the big pitlord hammer of doom will come down on the delayers! This isn't a stand about and smoke cigars type arena! HEY when faced with 3 big melee monsters vs one little old man... it sure is time to smoke a cigar and let you all fight it out... I think Balrog came to the same conclusion i did... this is gonna HURT... :pint: :smirk: |
| Macbrea04-06-07, 02:55 PM | Well, Balrog has fought Izumi twice. It is one of those statistics hurt kind of fights. If you go toe to toe with her she probably needs a 20 to hit you. But if she does..... |
| Sunwolf04-06-07, 02:59 PM | @Erithmu FYI - On Rnd 8 in the all vs all -- looks like the horse got a possible crit on the bite 1d20-1 -> 20-1 =19 |
| Erithmu04-06-07, 03:04 PM | @Erithmu FYI - On Rnd 8 in the all vs all -- looks like the horse got a possible crit on the bite 1d20-1 -> 20-1 =19 Thanks ... I might start looking here ... way too many dice flying around ... and the second fight is about to break out. |
| McJarvis04-06-07, 03:05 PM | Gak vs Sabra is up. Please look over this-> I had to make a snap judgment call. Share pain doesn't specify which way to round the damage, so I just assumed the power was in favor of the manifester. |
| Macbrea04-06-07, 03:10 PM | Izumi prays she hits harder.... |
| Macbrea04-06-07, 03:12 PM | I believe it is always rounded down. |
| Rauul04-06-07, 03:33 PM | *watchs the Reaper die... Looks like undead for me the next 2 fights* |
| Erithmu04-06-07, 03:48 PM | 2 down 1 to go |
| Rauul04-06-07, 03:49 PM | Thanks ... I might start looking here ... way too many dice flying around ... and the second fight is about to break out. not gonna matter much on that confirm crit... but Balrogs at a -1 to all attack rolls (Enervation) |
| Erithmu04-06-07, 03:58 PM | not gonna matter much on that confirm crit... but Balrogs at a -1 to all attack rolls (Enervation) Enervation ended up missing due to +4 for being in melee combat |
| Zevox04-06-07, 04:36 PM | Ceilia vs Balrog eh? With him wanting to kill Foresight first? I might still just have a shot at this. *fingers crossed* Zevox |
| Erithmu04-06-07, 04:40 PM | Erithmu vs Zevox & Macbrea & Rauul & Maraxus is up ... Let the real beatings begin. Just as a note, some of the rolls in the roller are of in listing of round, but the order of the rolls is correct. Just adjust them to a latter round (in most cases). |
| Macbrea04-06-07, 04:40 PM | Want to see a silly sight... Izumi Experience: 26,446 / 28,000 Reward for second place 2100/3 = (700 + 700) * 1.1 = 1540xp Experience: 27,986 / 28,000 |
| Macbrea04-06-07, 04:43 PM | I will assume round 14 action for foresight is CDG fallen Izumi. Which happens at end of round. |
| Erithmu04-06-07, 04:44 PM | Want to see a silly sight... Izumi Experience: 26,446 / 28,000 Reward for second place 2100/3 = (700 + 700) * 1.1 = 1540xp Experience: 27,986 / 28,000 Even sillier |
| Erithmu04-06-07, 04:46 PM | I will assume round 14 action for foresight is CDG fallen Izumi. Which happens at end of round. I'm using the 'hunter' definition of being out. So I didn't have need to do that, I can run it as a CDG if it makes you sleep better. |
| Rauul04-06-07, 04:48 PM | o-well lol i knew i didn't have much of a chance... stupid me didn't realize enervate would be at -4 if in melee... should of just used lightning bolt and saved a spell level... |
| Zevox04-06-07, 04:55 PM | Holy cow. I can't believe it actually turned out like that - Ceilia must really have the favor of the Red Knight (and about every other God out there). I haven't looked all that closely at the rolls (well, no more closely than I was looking at them while it was being run anyway), but presuming no major mathematical errors I don't see any real issues. I'm not entirely sure if Ceilia ever spotted Corruptor due to the lack of maps (I'm a bit lazy to look up the coordinates for now), but I guess it doesn't matter - since she was quite occupied at the time, the lack of casting Silence is understandable. The one thing you did forget is to have her use her shield's heartening ability after the first hit removed Aid's temp hp, but it won't change anything, so no need to edit for it as is. One comment to make - in your comments, you mentioned Ceilia keeping her mount. But she does have a second horse (never named him, hes just referred to as her "Backup Mount" on the sheet) she could've used even if Foresight was dead anyway, so thats not so big a deal as you might think. Anyway, thanks for the run! Zevox |

ZevoxYes I did: round 8&9 ... it just didn't last long (need to go edit that in) That and you never had LoS to even the invisible Corruptor (sides he helped you in damaging Balrog) |
| Macbrea04-06-07, 05:07 PM | Technically, the CDG or foresight hitting is required otherwise if she stabilizes before round 21. She takes second place instead of third. I am fine with putting horse CDGs her at that point and calling it third place. |
| Etiquette_Gnome04-06-07, 05:25 PM | @Sabra vs. Strongjaw - Wow. I was not expecting that tactic to actually work. I think it's time to cheer for being the first person to defeat him. |
| Maraxus04-06-07, 07:12 PM | And hopefully the big pitlord hammer of doom will come down on the delayers! This isn't a stand about and smoke cigars type arena! Pha - Corrupter and me just knew we'd kill each other so fast, that we had to wait a bit to have the great cinematic effect of Izumi and Corry dying in the same round. :D So, it came down to the honorable "winners of two duels" szenario. Me likes. Zevox: Yes, basicly it was better to kill the mount first, Celia's ride check is not to high, but her armor class get's just too much from riding for cover. Okay, to this point, where Izumi has softened up Celia, it should have been about equally as effective, estimated. |
| Erithmu04-06-07, 07:39 PM | Awesome ... all 4 participants responded, and since I got the early error fixed ... the fight is done and finalized. WOOT! |

| Maraxus04-06-07, 07:54 PM | Awesome ... all 4 participants responded, and since I got the early error fixed ... the fight is done and finalized. WOOT! I have not checked for errors (and won't). The formating is a bit chaotic neutral and there are no maps. But overall it looks all correct. Hm, delay penalty for hiding "moves out and attacks something" is pretty stringent. I usually make "someone shouts out his position" first. Then maybe someone could desintegrate the stone he is hiding behind and he has to go for another place ... but making him attack is okay, too. :) (In a free for all it's probably even better) |
| Zevox04-06-07, 07:59 PM | Hm, delay penalty for hiding "moves out and attacks something" is pretty stringent. I usually make "someone shouts out his position" first. Then maybe someone could desintegrate the stone he is hiding behind and he has to go for another place ... but making him attack is okay, too. :) In this case, that wouldn't have done anything to solve the delay issue though, since no one would have gone after you. It wasn't an issue of you hiding - I haven't checked maps either, but I wouldn't be surprised if you were visible to one of the other two that weren't hiding - it was an issue of you doing nothing while others went after each other instead of you. Ceilia didn't want to engage you until last, Izumi just wanted to fight whoever she ran into (which wound up being Ceilia), and Corruptor was hiding. You have to make the delay penalty effective, or there isn't any point to using it to begin with. Zevox |
| hogarth04-06-07, 08:00 PM | Note to melee monsters: if someone's hard to hit, try grappling! |
| Zevox04-06-07, 08:10 PM | Bah my magic missiles took over 1/2 his hp's!! but now that i have learned my leason on enervate... shrug o-well file this fight under Waiti till i go centaur hunting for Centaur skeletal lancers.... Centaur skeletons? Thats it? Heh, just wait until Ceilia is backed up by a Djinni Skeleton. If she hadn't failed the MQ to obtain it earlier (darned advanced monsters), this fight would've been a lot easier for her. Zevox |
| Maraxus04-06-07, 08:42 PM | I agree, in this situation, the penalty was justified. it was more a general statement. ;) Hehe, centaur skeletons - imagine two lancing Centaur Skeletons jousting at another. - And not by the D&D rules that say that deal damage (after DR 5) normally. The lances glide through the ribs and they crush into another and you have no idea whose bones are which. :D Hm, grappling ... Yes, improved Grappling can go on my list of feats Balrog could need at some point. Damn, now this are... Ride-by attack (have) Spirited Charge (have) Psionic Weapon (have) Speed of thought Psionic Charge Deep Impact Psicristal Affinity Psicrystal Containment Power Attack Improved Unarmed Strike Improved Grapple |

Heh, so 16k gp and 10 credits to get them into the air. Seems like a waste to me, unless you also intend to pay credits to advance them as time goes on, given the little hp and attack bonuses they'll have will become less and less useful as your opponents get tougher. *shrugs* I could go into why the Djinni is superior, but I'd rather just let it speak for itself (I've added it to Ceilia's sheet to make sure I had no formatting errors, and to let anyone who likes take a gander). Besides, I don't want to wind up unintentionally encouraging you copy the idea. Centaurs still make good skeletons, after all, so if thats your idea you should go for it. Zevox |

Skeletons seem like decent allies, but it's hard to get around the fact that there's a 2nd-level wizard spell that can enslave any skeleton with no saving throw. Of course, it only has a short range, but if you're planning on having your skeleton engage in melee it's something to look out for. I definitely know that I'm planning on having a scroll of Command Undead on hand for Kilpquabjeg and Reginald Molehusband. |

When was the last time you saw someone actually preparing a casting of that or carrying it in a scroll? I didn't even know that spell existed until someone mentioned it in the discussion about how you control skeletons. Plus a good many wizards select necromancy as their forbidden school due to it having the fewest "must-have" spells, especially early on. Besides, that can always be dispelled anyway, or just kept away from as you say (in my case, the Djinni Skeleton has fly speed 60ft with perfect maneuverability and isn't a bad archer, so thats easy to do without a terrible map). Yes, the enervation helped a lot. :) (as did the average 13 on the D20s. Wow, Durin was lucky) One point about the fight: No, turning a Horse requires no movement, an aerial mount with average or worth maneuverbility needs it but ground movement is facing-less, I can turn for free as much as I want. Ally-penalty: A Level 6 Gladiator can have a CR 4 Ally. The Light Warhorse is CR 1, so he takes a 1/4*25% = 6.25% penalty (I think). Oh, and Reckless Offence: I think it was a good choise to take that feat. :) |

Hm, and another thing (again, no need to change anything based on this, just mentioning): I though it went without mentioning, that when I'm in a melee with the horse and can auto-sucede the ride check for "fight with warhorse", that the horse should attack, too. (But hey, I have won. :D) |
| templer1004-07-07, 07:36 PM | No, it does not make a diffrence, I just mentioned it for future fights. (But hey, I have won. :D) you did win and the horse didnt die becuase he died originally becuase of AOA that shouldnt have happened. about fighting with warhorse - that i wouldnt have changed - since you DO need to mention that in the tactics. |
| Horatius04-07-07, 07:40 PM | @T10, Horatious, Tagg; In other news I'm getting started on the late interleague team fight. Probably be done tomorrow durring the day. My prediction is BBQ LPG. Can I save my free full activity for later? I don't have anything to do with it now, but I'll be crafting stuff in a couple of levels... |
| Zevox04-07-07, 07:54 PM | durin VS arden tarmik is done and here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=12016510&postcount=743) per usual in the last few fights i pitlorded the dice from start to finish picked a winner- all the rest is just rolls. - if someone can post here what the ally penalty for light warhorse in a ECL 6 char i would edit the rewards. Wow. What the dice gave to Ceilia this week, they took out of Arden's hide. Enervation at the worst possible time, wretched trip resist checks, and the one hit he made was 4d6 on which he rolled two 2s and two 1s. Theres no arguing with those dice. Thanks for the run. Edit: Oh, but you have Arden's free activity wrong. He wasn't guarding (my characters never do when they're in a league with no burglar), he was using Profession (Politician) for 132 gp. @ Maraxus - We'll have to have a rematch next level, when we're both Warminds. Hopefully on a map thats slightly bigger ;) . Zevox |
| Maraxus04-07-07, 09:05 PM | Interesting, a Wilder/Fighter going into Warmind. An interesting choise, too. Durin is the character with most temporarry modifiers, therefor Barbarien has to be it. And for the Knowledge (psionics) part, ... Psi-Warrior, Wilder or Soulknife ... Good question. Okay, Soulknife is a really bad class and get's even worse, when you prestige-class out of it. Psi-Warrior looks better then Wilder, however, because of the Bonus feats and even more, because you don't need Cha and Wis. ... As a Dwarf, Cha is a dumb stat anyway. |

Psi-Warrior looks better then Wilder, however, because of the Bonus feats and even more, because you don't need Cha and Wis. ... As a Dwarf, Cha is a dumb stat anyway. I chose Wilder for several reasons. First off, it was between that, Psion, and Psychic Warrior, since Soulknife is a poor class. Psion, while high on powers and granting a feat, gives too little HP and bab, and just generally doesn't work as well with the overall concept. Psychic Warrior seemed quite clichè (given it is very similar to the PrC to begin with), gives very few power points, and the same power selection as Warmind gives. Wilder, while dependent on what would otherwise be a dump stat, gives a large number of power points, the same bab as a Psychic Warrior, and only a little less hp. Plus it has two major things to offer that Psychic Warrior doesn't - Wild Surge (which, unlike anything any other psionic class offers, can be used in tandem with the Warmind's powers), and a different list of powers than Warmind (allowing access to such potent things as Crystal Shard and powerstones of Touchsight). Plus, with Wild Surge + vigor, the lower hp it offers is really no downside at all, since 1 power point gives me +15 hp. Going with Fighter gives me the same number of bonus feats as a psychic warrior (and being human gives one more even). Barbarian might be nice for the 1/day rage sometimes, but personally, it doesn't seem worth it to me, given its one level (or in Durin's case two) for a once-per-cycle boost that becomes a drawback if your foe can outlast it. And besides, since Arden is the follower of an Archdevil, being a Barbarian would be completely out-of-character (and I'm too lawful to play him as a follower of a Demon Lord ;) ). The one drawback to Arden is that he suffers from multi-ability dependency, but I figure if I minimize his use of expendables (what he has now is basically what he'll have forever, with perhaps only a few additions several levels ahead) I can focus on getting him stat-boosting items. For instance, hes currently saving for a pair of Gloves of Dex +2, and I plan on getting him a Periapt of Wisdom +2 and possibly a Dorje of Animal Affinity (with 1 round a fight, thats as good as a +4 boost to any stat I want for only 4,500 gp) once he goes Warmind. Overall, he should turn out to be a pretty tough customer, particularly once he gets his Winged Boots. Zevox |
| Maraxus04-07-07, 10:35 PM | Touchsight is no Psi-Warrior-Power? Damn, you are right. Yes, Wilder is definitly useful for Warminds. Don't forget Elude Touch, too. And fighter for the feats... Dorje of Animal Affinity ... hey, that sounds like a solution ... I noticed, that there is no Belt of giant's strength +2 and I don't like the idea of either investing in gloves I would sell after a while or pay credits for a belt +2 str. Such a Dorje could help me, untill I can affort the Belt +4 |
| Zevox04-07-07, 10:55 PM | Yes, Wilder is definitly useful for Warminds. Don't forget Elude Touch, too. And fighter for the feats... Eh, Elude Touch is kinda a side benefit really. With only +1 charisma it doesn't help much (I have no intentions of improving his charisma any further). Dorje of Animal Affinity ... hey, that sounds like a solution ... I noticed, that there is no Belt of giant's strength +2 and I don't like the idea of either investing in gloves I would sell after a while or pay credits for a belt +2 str. Such a Dorje could help me, untill I can affort the Belt +4 It was basically my solution to the overlap between the gloves of dex and the gauntlets of ogre power, yep (Arden will buy the gloves, then use the dorje until he can afford the belt +4, at least unless I find myself with an excess of credits over the summer). Plus I figure if I get a huge map with plenty of time to buff (city or forest) he can use it for con for extra hp, and against Ego Whippers it could provide an extra layer of defense. Its a pretty versatile piece of equipment, and barely more expensive than a permanent +2 stat item. Zevox |
| MindWandererB04-08-07, 12:50 AM | Well... here's Denshi vs. three ettins.... Vath's tactics were kind of vague, so I hope it's all right. It was really just a couple of (un)lucky rolls that determined the outcome. |
| Vathelokai04-08-07, 11:29 AM | Well... here's Denshi vs. three ettins.... Vath's tactics were kind of vague, so I hope it's all right. It was really just a couple of (un)lucky rolls that determined the outcome. Completely fine with the fight. Other than the lack of scorching rays, it is exactly what I said. And with a clear decision in the last round, well no need to rearrange anything. As for the buffs, I was guessing that I would be mobbed pretty quickly, but since that didn't happen the rearrangement was quite proper. Thanks for the notes in the tactics. Didn't realize you couldn't do free actions on the opponents turn (thought they worked like immediate actions). |

| Maraxus04-08-07, 08:49 PM | Yes, and one I don't understand. 2. Why should an ECL 3 character be unable to hire an ECL 1 Merc. 1. And why is it a surrender if he could not? |
| Zevox04-08-07, 08:51 PM | Yes, and one I don't understand. 2. Why should an ECL 3 character be unable to hire an ECL 1 Merc. 1. And why is it a surrender if he could not? For the first, because any non-class or non-bought ally isn't allowed before level 5. That was one of the ways the lower leagues were simplified for new players. For the second, because Telin decided to surrender due to the character being based around getting merc aid. Zevox |
| Maraxus04-08-07, 08:54 PM | Ah, Hm, that makes the low-level Mercs quite uninteresting. I thought, it was just that you could not get customised allies before level 5. |
| MindWandererB04-08-07, 08:57 PM | No, most allies were banned. Think about it: a new player with a good build shows up, and gets easily killed by a PC + merc. They probably didn't even know mercs existed. Not cool. |
| TelinArtho04-08-07, 10:04 PM | No, most allies were banned. Think about it: a new player with a good build shows up, and gets easily killed by a PC + merc. They probably didn't even know mercs existed. Not cool. The worst part about this is it essentially takes away any and all argument I had for making more mercs... I had decided that mercs would be most useful from ECL3-5 for the characters who wanted an ally but did not want an animal, and did not want to invest in diplomacy before they gained leadership at ECL6. For my character - he was going to use mercs exclusively from ECL3-6 and then get leadership at ECL7. With the way the quick-start guide is - that means she could only use mercs in ECL5-6, which isn't very impressive... I don't necessarily disagree with the quick-start guide as a useful restriction, I just keep butting up against it - because I still prefer to start characters at ECL3... |

| Sutro04-09-07, 04:02 AM | Re: ECL4 FFA Sauro, Are you sure my powerstones can't hit Elrick? All my powerstones are extended, which for the ML4 ones is 80 feet. (Base range = (30 + [4x2.5])x2) I can also 5' step in the round I draw a stone and fire it. As I calculated it, accounting for height, Elrick's only about 65-70 ft away from me. Also, this is the first time I've seen unconscious characters counted as places in a fight. Is this the regular utilized practice in the CoCo? It's a major change to my usual tactics if it is. -Sutro |
| Macbrea04-09-07, 08:17 AM | All fights except hunter fighting end when the opponent is dead. In hunter fights as soon as the opponent is unconcious they are considered out of the fight. So, in a free for all if you you drop an opponent they start bleeding. If on the following round your character is killed but the other is still bleeding you take a worse place then the bleeder. We have had matches in which two character fighting each other have ended up with negative hps. You roll for stabilization each round until one bleeds out. Note: in Dungeons and dragons it is impossible to totally stop bleeding. Basiclly, if you stabilize then you check once per hour to see if you start bleeding again. You would have to be unconscious for 24 hours before your body naturally heals. |

According to your sheet, you are all out of ML4 energy ray stones. You only have ML2 ones left. Even with the enlarged range, they only have a range of 60'. And for you to 5' step closer is to step into the bog. I don't think you can 5' step in an area with severe movement penalties. Besides, you cannot get into range even with a 5' step. |
| Vathelokai04-09-07, 11:09 AM | i spotted some thing wrong - could have ended the fight also - depend on dice rolls- also - iam assuming the whole time nymph was in the middle of the swamp above 30 feat high so i couldnt get to him?Correct. Not to mention being slowed down by the swamp enough to not be able to catch him, and the part of your tactics that states in all caps "NEVER LEAVE THE CANOPIED AREA". round 6 and 7 petit crits with bow and you give dmg as 2d6 - it should be 3d6 - longbow multiplier is X3 so nymph took 2d6 more dmg from those shots. at round 16 nymp is on 12 HP but you switched it around to 21 HP at round 17 (probably mixed numbers) without him healing or anything. well if he's coming into melee it should end fast.Fixed! Didn't change the fight any, so I didn't move the healing to an earlier round (has the odd effect of Nyph running around for 10 rounds with 2 hp, but oh well). Changed the hp throughout, so in round 42 he only has 8 hp left. This will defintely be interesting... Fight Link |
| Vathelokai04-09-07, 11:17 AM | And for you to 5' step closer is to step into the bog. I don't think you can 5' step in an area with severe movement penalties. Besides, you cannot get into range even with a 5' step. Dosn't change the range issue, but for further reference... You can only take a 5-foot step if your movement isn’t hampered by difficult terrain or darkness. Any creature with a speed of 5 feet or less can’t take a 5-foot step, since moving even 5 feet requires a move action for such a slow creature. In some situations, your movement may be so hampered that you don’t have sufficient speed even to move 5 feet (1 square). In such a case, you may use a full-round action to move 5 feet (1 square) in any direction, even diagonally. Even though this looks like a 5-foot step, it’s not, and thus it provokes attacks of opportunity normally. (You can’t take advantage of this rule to move through impassable terrain or to move when all movement is prohibited to you.) Despite penalties to movement, you can take a full-round action to move 5 feet (1 square) in any direction, even diagonally. (This rule doesn’t allow you to move through impassable terrain or to move when all movement is prohibited.) Such movement provokes attacks of opportunity as normal (despite the distance covered, this move isn’t a 5-foot step). |
| hogarth04-09-07, 11:21 AM | Also, this is the first time I've seen unconscious characters counted as places in a fight. Is this the regular utilized practice in the CoCo? It's a major change to my usual tactics if it is. As Macbrea pointed out, Hunter and Free-For-All fights have different conditions for being hors de combat. I agree that it's silly that a character who goes into negative hit points but stabilizes can get a better reward than one who lasts longer in the fight but goes to -10. For instance, Kervan, Torel and Reginald were in a Hunter fight that ended up with Reg first, Torel second and Kervan third. But since Kervan was merely unconscious (via nonlethal damage) and Reg would have bled to death before Torel, if the fight had been a free-for-all the victory order could have been reversed! |

That part is apparently required to use the recall agony stone, and it is not yet satisfied. You have E-Ray stones, you just cannot get into position to use them. |

What was ultimately decided? As I recall, the last time this was discussed, it was only in reference to when allies are removed from the fight. If Cat doesn't decide to come back soon, this will certainly be among the things we clarify. But the intent of the FFA order of defeat is certainly in reference to incapacitation--dead or dying makes no difference, thematically. |

| TelinArtho04-09-07, 05:09 PM | Ihdald Seaslash (milov) vs Valen Sky (hirumajoe) @templer10 - well I knew I had problems. Bulgar has had a few problems so far - but my concentration on his success is more for his quests than anything else (which is why you might notice my strict restrictions on his item usage). Later on - I hope his strength within the arena will improve - but that will be determined more on his ability to continue to take down dragons (since if he dies on a quest - I will in fact retire him to move on to my next design...). |

| templer1004-09-07, 05:31 PM | Whoah! I just looked over the Bulgar vs Lorian fight with the roller and I have to retract my acceptance of the fight. In round 6 and 7, Bulgar's attack are listed in the roller without attack bonuses and listed that way in the fight as well. For instance, in round 6, Bulgar's roll in the roller is 1d20=14. He is firing defensively, and has a normal attack at +7, plus 1 more for bless. This means his total attack is 1d20+7+1-4 or 14+7+1-4 = 18. The horse's AC is 14+4 for cover - meaning the attack hits. Round 7 is a miss anyway. However, this means that the horse is downed in round 8. Maraxus - if you can - adjust the fight to include that miss as a hit. seems you are right but it doesnt make a difrrence in the fight since that shot in round 10 if shot at lorian would have missed- not to mention the 60+ HP lorian has. |
| Erithmu04-09-07, 05:32 PM | I think those are the entangled rounds which add on another set of penalties. (-2 attacks and -2 from lower dex - I think) which would explain the missing +4. |

Since it did not stabilize - Ihdald would need to use his wand to keep the ape from dying. Not so. The moment the fight is resolved, if the ape isn't dead yet, it survives. |
| Zevox04-09-07, 05:42 PM | Not sure where you are getting this. His ape was dying at the end of the fight. If the ape does not stabilize - then it is dead for the rest of the cycle. Since it did not stabilize - Ihdald would need to use his wand to keep the ape from dying. If it doesn't bleed out before the fight is over, theres no need for healing - its as automatic as it is for PCs, since the ally isn't dead yet. I've never seen anyone run it otherwise. Gimme a minute and I'll see if I can find it spelled out in our rules. Zevox |
| TelinArtho04-09-07, 05:42 PM | Hmm - that's annoying... oh well - I will edit it to reflect that. |
| Hirumajoe04-09-07, 05:43 PM | @Telin in regards to Valen vs Ihdald. I think I've got this right now... A) Thanks for the run! B) I seemed to have forgotten to include a dodge buddy in my tactics. While it certainly not clear if Valen should be dodging Idhald or Kitsune, I should think its clear after Kitsune goes down that Valen would dodge Ihdald (since dodging the snake is kinda pointless... He needs 20s to hit anyways.) I leave it to your discretion whether you want to include the +1 dodge AC vs Ihdald after Kitsune goes down or not since it is my omission. This might impact certain borderline shots. C) I think there's a mistake in the fact that you include a +4 bonus to dex from the Cat's grace when its in fact only +2 net, since Ihdald already has Gloves +2 of dexterity which don't stack. This should lower all his ranged attack rolls by 1 and his AC (including touch AC by 1). There's a couple arrows that miss in this case. Also, as far as I can tell, his touch AC in round 12 should be 10 + 5 + 1 + 4 = 20. Given Valen's roll of 20, that should hit. Which certainly changes his to-hit and movement options alot. Let me know if totally off base with the above. I've been known to miss the obvious before. Thanks! |
| Zevox04-09-07, 05:45 PM | Can't find anything specific on it, just the general mention that if the ally dies during the fight, its not available for the rest of the cycle. *shrugs* Oh well, seems to be common sense to me anyway. I guess with no concrete rule on it, you're free to pick as you please. Zevox |
| TelinArtho04-09-07, 05:46 PM | a - you're welcome. b - bah! yeah - I actually noted it to myself and decided that it most likely applied to Kitsune until the ape was dead. But then - I forgot about it anyway. I did mean to give it to you despite the lack of mention on it... c - well, that's certainly an error. I didn't realize he already had an enhancement bonus on his dex. I will edit this as well. |

Zevox Well - I have had it happen the way I ran it a couple of times (not surprising with the number of my characters with allies...). In any case, I'm deferring to both you and MWB on the matter. |
| TelinArtho04-09-07, 06:02 PM | Okay - fight has been edited and the result did change. What a difference one point in AC can make... |
| McJarvis04-09-07, 06:06 PM | That fight I picked up from ToK will be done by tomorrow night. Can't do it by the normal deadline-> sorry folks. |
| Maraxus04-09-07, 06:22 PM | Attack modifier: Yes, it was +7+1-4 defencive -4 entanglement. In that rounds it was quite hard to decite wheather to be defencive. A +0 attack is no good point to start from, and without cover and at -2 to touch AC from the entanglement, too, the fighting defencively did not have that much effect anyway. What was this with political career, I though, this just added to the money earned with profession, didn't it? |

| Maraxus04-09-07, 07:56 PM | Ah, yes, that was it. Corrected. |
| templer1004-09-07, 08:01 PM | Ah, yes, that was it. Corrected. you still havent mentioned in the ongoing effects that i have share pain for 4 more hours - then if iam lucky and it roll 4 or less i have 12 pps worth of pain and suffering to unleash on the poor s.o.beep who get's lord lorian next round. |

Share Pain allows only one target, chosen when the power is manifested. Thus theres no reason to record that (given that if you got paired with the same foe again s/he would likely request being repaired, as is typical in such cases). Zevox |

Zevox You think of forced share pain. That lasts only *check* 1 round per level anyway. He manifested the "friendly" version on his Psi-Crystal. And that *check* does in fact last 1 hour per level. |
| Macbrea04-09-07, 09:56 PM | Qwogi vs Master Wu on the open plains! |
| Vathelokai04-09-07, 11:04 PM | Qwogi vs Master Wu on the open plains! Nice format... If I remember correctly, the minimum damage with any weapon is 1. It could shave 3-4 rounds off the end of the fight, but wouldn't really change anything. |
| Macbrea04-09-07, 11:04 PM | DR can bring damage to 0 Whenever damage reduction completely negates the damage from an attack, it also negates most special effects that accompany the attack, such as injury type poison, a monk’s stunning, and injury type disease. Damage reduction does not negate touch attacks, energy damage dealt along with an attack, or energy drains. Nor does it affect poisons or diseases delivered by inhalation, ingestion, or contact. Else this section doesn't make much sense. |
| Vathelokai04-10-07, 01:14 AM | DR can bring damage to 0 Ohhh... I thought it was a minus from low str or something, not biofeedback. Nevermind. |
| Etiquette_Gnome04-10-07, 02:05 AM | Kronos vs. Anastria finished. I'm afraid I might have screwed up somewhere, so I'd appreciate any point-outs. |
| Erithmu04-10-07, 02:11 AM | Qwogi vs Master Wu on the open plains! Umm Master Wu has deflect arrows? But then again Deflect Arrows isn't a monk 1 option, so whatever. |
| Vathelokai04-10-07, 02:24 AM | Kronos vs. Anastria finished. I'm afraid I might have screwed up somewhere, so I'd appreciate any point-outs. I didn't check the HP throughout, but it looks good to me. At least the tactics were simple. |
| Maraxus04-10-07, 07:29 AM | Qwogi vs Master Wu on the open plains! A large Greatsword deals 3d6, not 4d6. |
| Macbrea04-10-07, 08:14 AM | Oops. Will edit. Won't change much. Except possibly when he used his healing potions. I think either way he will be below half health. All arrows fired pretty much hit. And I didn't use deflect arrows the whole fight so.. no harm no foul! |
| NiQil04-10-07, 08:18 AM | Kronos vs. Anastria finished. I'm afraid I might have screwed up somewhere, so I'd appreciate any point-outs. Don't forget to add in the rest of the fight summary....I'll need an arrow recovery count, etc. By my count, there are 18 misses that need recovery rolls, and 5 hits that destroyed arrows. Thanks for the run. |
| Macbrea04-10-07, 08:20 AM | There the fight now uses the correct damage. No change in fight and the healing potions pretty much would have been used at the exact same point by any sane player. |

| Erithmu04-10-07, 11:08 AM | erithmu VS mithos is done and here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=12044540&postcount=757)- pretty predictable result. Couple of things... 1) Can my spiritual weapon roll a d20 to hit rather than a d8? (rnd 6&7) 2) His shocking grasp should be 2d6 damage not 5d6 (CL2) I'm not expecting much (wasn't from the beginning) but ya know ... Other thing is that rewards need the inclusion of my political career. |

The only difference the actual weapon type makes is in the threat range and critical multipliers. The to hit is purely based off the casters Base attack bonus plus Wisdom modifier, and damage is 1d8 force damage per hit, +1 point per three caster levels. And, it can't be a ranged weapon (if it was a bow, it would either base the target and shoot/wack him). |

It can be a ranged weapon - but it still follows the restriction of the spell regardless of the weapon used. So even as a longbow it would be 100+10ft/level max range, deals 1d8 damage. The only difference between longbow and say a quarterstaff is that the critical threat range or multiplier might change. In the case of the longbow it is x3. |

| McJarvis04-10-07, 01:35 PM | TBD vs Dumbo is done. Booyeah! |
| TheMagister04-10-07, 01:56 PM | Booyeah! Indeed! Abyssal, could you update our XP to include Tessero's Ally penalty (-8.33%) please? Also, you might wanna put Tessero's sheet in there (don't wanna get in trouble or lose a credit). Exp for us should be (3000 * .9167)/2 = 1375 xp. GP for us should be (3200 * .9167)/2 = 1467 xp. Thanks for the run! TM |
| TheMagister04-10-07, 02:15 PM | @Telin - did you do our MQ xp correctly? We were both level 5, and faced a CR 7 enemy (that damned lion), so our xp should be the same as our fight this week, right? Allies are handled individually. You may lend your ally to a team mate (like riding a horse). Ally caps are applied to the individual character; ie each character still has his own maxCA. Ally penalties to rewards, however, are deducted from the party as a whole. Edit: As a matter of fact, now that I look at it, I think there are quite a few mistakes in my xp/gp section -- times that the pitlords didn't apply Equalizer's penalty and I didn't catch it. I'll do some addition/subtraction. Don't throw us in prison, ya buzzards. |
| TelinArtho04-10-07, 02:18 PM | @Telin - did you do our MQ xp correctly? We were both level 5, and faced a CR 7 enemy (that damned lion), so our xp should be the same as our fight this week, right? Exp for a ECL7 match is 2800xp not 3000. Is that where the error is? If not - let me know... I'm in the middle of updating CEF's stuff - so I'm a little busy... |
| Abyssal Stalker04-10-07, 02:40 PM | Fixed. |
| TheMagister04-10-07, 03:12 PM | Exp for a ECL7 match is 2800xp not 3000. Is that where the error is? If not - let me know... I'm in the middle of updating CEF's stuff - so I'm a little busy... Man, the more I look at the Ally rules and the Party rules, the more confused I get. Yeah, you're in error (at least according to the table in the Rules thread). An ECL 5 facing an ECL 7 gains 3000 xp and 3000 gp. The multiplier for the ECL 7 league is 1xp : 1.23gp. When it's a CoCo party of ECL5s with a CR1 ally, the ally costs them like it was the ally of an ECL 7 character (near as I can figure). So that's a 5% penalty (ECL7-2= Max CR5. CR1/CR5*25=5 penalty). So 3000xp * .95 = 2850. 2850/2 = 1425 xp. and 3690gp * .95 = 3505. 3505/2 = 1752 gp. I've been counting Equalizer as if he was the ally of Tessero only. If we do it that way, we lose a ton of xp/gp. To use TBD's fight 9 as an example: Tessero (ECL4) and Cupid (ECL4) faced 2 air elementals (CR3 each) and a janni (CR4) and won. ECL 4 vs. ECL 3 gains 800 xp ea. ECL 4 vs. ECL 4 gains 1200 xp ea. 800+800+1200= 2800. The multiplier for the ECL6 league is 1:1.11. So 2800xp and 3108 gp. Equalizer is CR1, and costs TBD as a whole. TBD (CR6) - 2 = 4(MaxCr). 1/4*25 = 6.25% ally penalty. 2800 * .9375 = 2625. 2625 / 2 = 1312 xp. 3108 * .9375 = 2914. 1914 / 2 = 1457 gp. OR Equalizer is CR1, and his penalty as Tessero's ally applies to the whole party. Tessero (ECL4) - 2 = 2(MaxCr). 1/2*25 = 12.5% ally penalty. 2800 * .875 = 2450. 2450 / 2 = 1225 xp. 3108 * .875 = 2719. 2719 / 2 = 1360 gp. I think we've been gypped a few times: In this example, Maraxus didn't apply an ECL 6 league multiplier. In the Chaos and the Beast example, I'm not sure how Telin calculated the gp. If we don't get the multiplier for the league we compete in, but only for our respective ECLs, we end up out of balance in our gp ratios (I believe). I'll leave it to you math whizzes to prove that claim, though. My head already hurts. TM |

Like 'Rith said, thanks for the run. You did forget to have Mithos retreat and heal after that crit (and for some reason he stopped shooting too? ), but it wouldn't change anything, so no need to edit for it. Looks good otherwise. Now, to update Mithos for his new level :) . Zevox |
| TelinArtho04-10-07, 05:19 PM | @TM: Here's how I calculated your rewards: ECL7 team - vs CR7 monster However, what I'm not sure about is this: ECL7 Team (2 ECL5 characters) vs CR7 Monster Okay - 3000xp - divide it by 2 for the two people. But what multiplier for gp? How do I calculate the ally? If we use the multiplier for ECL7 - then if the characters ever split apart - they have a disproportionate amount of GP for their level. I will happily update the quest, but I'm not convinced whether your money multiplier should be 1.06 (as other ECL5 characters) or 1.23 (as ECL7). |
| MindWandererB04-10-07, 05:38 PM | @TM: Here's how I calculated your rewards: ECL7 team - vs CR7 monster However, what I'm not sure about is this: ECL7 Team (2 ECL5 characters) vs CR7 Monster Okay - 3000xp - divide it by 2 for the two people. The party should use the same rules as a randomly assigned team of two characters of their level, except that any XP/GP rewards or penalties are averaged across the two of them. |
| TelinArtho04-10-07, 05:41 PM | Okay - so the ally is treated like this: ECL5 = MAXCa 3, CR1 ally = 25%/3 = 8.667% penalty/2 = 4.33% penalty for both characters. So 1500xp-4.33% = 1435xp GP: 1435*1.06 = 1521gp. |
| TheMagister04-10-07, 05:58 PM | Actually, an ECL 5 gladiator with a CR 1 ally has a 8.33% penalty. ECL5 = MAXCa 3, CR1 ally = 25%/3 = 8.33% penalty/2 = 4.165% penalty for both characters. So 1500xp-4.165% = 1437 xp GP: 1437*1.06 = 1523 gp Wow. HUGE difference. [/sarcasm] Still, it means that I'll be sending some PMs to clear up xp/gp issues. I think we'll gain something out of this. :D |
| TheMagister04-10-07, 06:11 PM | Looks like it's only our last two fights at ECL 5 that are wrong. That's good news. TM |

| Macbrea04-11-07, 09:28 AM | Is pretty much my tactics played out completely. Nothing I can really argue there. Though, I do need the rewards, so, I can level him and set him to crafting for next week or two. |
