| Usurpator08-02-06, 04:41 PM | Fights of the Week: August 2nd Sheets Deadline for editing characters sheets is 21:00 CET. Central European Time (http://wwp.centraleuropeantime.eu/) shows the time. Please don't edit the sheet after the deadline or you will lose the match. Rules of Gladius All that you need to know is written in the Rules of Gladius. It could be useful also to give a look to the Court Decisions. Please do not make fake accounts or insult the Elders. Pairings GM Caterane will pair the active Characters of Gladius after the deadline. Make sure that your character is not in Prison (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=571107&goto=lastpost). Pitlording You should use the CoCo Dice Roller (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com) for the fight. If you need, there is a nice Template ready to use that will help. You could find very useful the Battle Map Tag Generator (http://www.hwx.it/coco) for dynamic Maps, You must post a link to your fight in this thread when it is complete. Other useful links are Skills and Feats, Quick Access tables for XP and Gold. Comments & Concerns Post any comments or concerns for this weeks fights in this thread. Be kind and courteous to your fellow posters, don't attack pitlords. Please remember that they do hard work and consume a lot of time to let you play and above all, have FUN! Latest News Guilds Rules: With the new guild rules as good as finished, pay close attention to the several guild threads the coming weeks. Also, activate your characters if they are guildmembers and haven't been active lately before 16th of Aug or your guild will be fined. If you have questions or comments on any of the changes, please make your posts be heard in the Council of Gladius! |

| Ravashack08-02-06, 09:56 PM | Tactics for Perius have been sent to Huan via email. |
| Zevox08-02-06, 10:41 PM | Eraca Moralta (Zevox) vs. War (NiQil) : Myrridin [Forest] Oh yes :D ! I have been waiting for Eraca to get a fight in the forest since the random maps were introduced! Shes practically made for that arena. @ My Pitlords - Tactics will be sent tonight. @ My players - Friday is an excellent chance for me to run a fight, so if I could get all the tactics for one (preferably the FFA or the Hunter fight), that'd be excellent. Zevox |
| NiQil08-02-06, 10:47 PM | @ TelinArtho: Tactics for Famine forthcoming pending conference with Vath @ Iced: Tactics for Pestilence sent via PM @ Myrridin: Tactics for War sent via PM @ Zevox: Tactics for Death sent via PM. |
| TelinArtho08-02-06, 10:54 PM | I've posted the monster lore for Nathas. Having a good intelligence makes a big difference at ECL3... Also - Ilendil's thievery is once again successful. The stolen articles have been sent to his opponent and DSugui. Good luck... I'll be sending tactics tonight if I can. For my fights - I won't be running anything until I get the chance - which will likely be Friday night or Saturday. As usual - it is preferable to get them in earlier. |
| King Uther08-02-06, 11:23 PM | @Gladiators Tactics by PM due Friday night. Let's have some fun. |
| TelinArtho08-02-06, 11:40 PM | Okay - tactics for Ilendil, Darrgon and Anakala have been sent. |
| lonewolf08-03-06, 02:49 AM | @DSgui: Setup for the monster fight is up. Please give me tactics asap. I would like to do the fight on Friday afternoon if possible. |
| Blazinghand08-03-06, 03:10 AM | @TelinArtho: Tactics sent. If I don't start in that corner, just rotate my tactics for whatever corner I happen to be in, as they are all the same. I certainly hope that Nathas manages to get through this one. |
| Zevox08-03-06, 03:13 AM | @ King Uther - Tactics for Ceilia sent. I love mountie fights on the plains. @ Myrridin - Tactics for Eraca sent. Hope theres no problem with that (you'll see what I mean). @ NiQil - Tactics for War recieved. @ Zelck - I'll write & send tactics for Istima tomorrow morning or afternoon. Thats the hardest of my fights, and its late already. Sorry. Zevox |
| Usurpator08-03-06, 03:31 AM | @Usurpator: The link to the ready crawler doesn't work. Can you check that please? I'm in the process of moving the site due to server trouble. I crawled the boards from my home computer for your convenience last night. Additionally, Tezca was set to active but not paired last night. Its probably too late to pair him now (considering that I don't like monster fights at all)? |
| Pittbull08-03-06, 05:08 AM | @Zevox: Morathor's tactic has been sent. |
| Caterane08-03-06, 05:46 AM | @Usurpator: Unfortunately I have no pitlords left and I can't make ECL 7 an all vs all because it's both DSugui's characters. We could make it a team fight though: you and a monster vs his two. |
| Vathelokai08-03-06, 07:09 AM | Hassan and Famine have discussed Tactics vs. Karen Douglas, and they should be out today. Zodiac (Vathelokai) vs. Genia (Milov) vs. Ivan (ayyiniwindryder) vs. Osiris (Iced) : Zevox [Forest] [All vs All]Red Wizards Unite! Err... um... all vs. all.... Nevermind. Working on tactics *EDIT* Tactics sent. |
| Stormwind08-03-06, 07:33 AM | @Caterane: Tactics for Cyra vs Gaston sent. (Cyra is looking hopeful at the rematch). |
| waywreth08-03-06, 08:49 AM | @Caterane - Tactics for Gaston in Cyra Val (Stormwind) vs. Gaston Dar'ath (waywreth) : Caterane[Cavern] sent via PM. PS - Goodluck Cyra... level up already so we stop having to fight each other. ;) |
| Caterane08-03-06, 08:59 AM | Got them both. Beginning my run now... |
| Myrridin08-03-06, 09:22 AM | @ Niqil: tactics received @ Zevox: tactics received, as well as clarification sent to you. |
| waywreth08-03-06, 11:10 AM | Got them both. Beginning my run now... Psionics aren't overpowered... having a Fort save of +3 is underpowered. Although I won't argue that Kineticists might be a tad on the powerful in arena side. And then there's vigor... |
| Usurpator08-03-06, 12:03 PM | @Usurpator: Unfortunately I have no pitlords left and I can't make ECL 7 an all vs all because it's both DSugui's characters. We could make it a team fight though: you and a monster vs his two. Thanks for the offer, but just leave Tezca inactive for this week. I'll try again next week. |
| DSugui08-03-06, 02:01 PM | @lonewolf: Tactics for Daisy & Dronnar vs Unknown monsters sent by PM @my miniquesters: MQs up tomorrow. |
| Zevox08-03-06, 02:05 PM | @ Myrridin - New tactics for Eraca sent. Oh well, this is still the best arena for Eraca, so I'm still confident I can win. That just would have been very, very fun to do. @ Zelck - Tactics for Istima Telarc (vs Aramur vs Anakala) have been PMed. Man, I do not envy you that fight - 3 characters, four horses, two air elementals, and a psicrystal. You've got your work cut out for you my friend - good luck! @ Vath - Tactics for Zodiac recieved, thank you. @ Pittbull - Tactics for Morathor recieved, thank you. @ Rake - Tactics for Wilhelm recieved, thank you. Zevox |
| Milov08-03-06, 03:02 PM | Zevox and Huan, tactics for Genia and Ihdald, respectivly, both sent. |
| Dracazar08-03-06, 04:44 PM | Hi mates, @Pitlords, bluemage: There is a problem, I see this pairings: # Dracazar (Dracazar) vs. Izumi (Macbrea) : bluemage [Cavern] But Dracazar is not ready for Arena fights He is crafting scrolls: [Aug02] -0025 Craft Scroll of Mage Armor [CL1] x2 ......... [25/2 *1(SL) *1(CL)] [Aug02] -0075 Craft Scroll of Magic Missile [CL3] x2 ...... [25/2 *1(SL) *3(CL)] [Aug02] -0075 Craft Scroll of Shield [CL2] x3 ............. [25/2 *1(SL) *2(CL)] [Aug02] -0100 Craft Scroll of Shocking Grasp [CL3] x2 ..... [25/2 *1(SL) *4(CL)] [Aug02] -0025 Craft Scroll of Protection from Evil [CL2] .. [25/2 *1(SL) *2(CL)] [Aug02] -0075 Craft Scroll of Fox's Cunning(C) [CL3] ...... [25/2 *2(SL) *3(CL)] [Aug02] -0150 Craft Scroll of Invisibility(C) [CL3] x2 .... [25/2 *2(SL) *3(CL)] That are 525 GP of scrolls so it a Full Activity so Dracazar could not be paired. Sorry for that Macbrea, I hope you could be paired with someone else or with a monster. Tell me if I'm forced to do arena so I'll improvise a tactic but I'll prefer to don't be paired because I'm without scrolls. Also I have a question, if it was 500 GP of scrolls it could be done as Free Activity? And if it was a Free Activity when I could use that scrolls in the 3 weeks fight cycle? @Traevanon: Quesis' tactic sent |
| MindWandererB08-03-06, 04:55 PM | Sorry, Drac, but I get 1000 gp market value on those scrolls, which makes it a free activity. You get them at the end of the cycle. Of course, Cat may give you dispensation on this one, but it's his call. |
| ayyiniwindryder08-03-06, 05:39 PM | @ DSugui - Sali's tactics sent via PM for Sali Kan (ayyiniwindryder) vs Treetall (hogarth). please be sure to check the note at the top @Zevox - Ivan's tactics sent via PM for Zodiac (Vathelokai) vs. Genia (Milov) vs. Ivan (ayyiniwindryder) vs. Osiris (Iced) |
| NiQil08-03-06, 09:24 PM | @ TelinArtho: Tactics for Famine & Hassan Sabbah sent via PM |
| King Uther08-03-06, 10:54 PM | I'm going to be mostly MIA tomorrow night, and I wanted to let my gladiators know that because lately I've always tried to get a fight done Friday night. |
| Traevanon08-03-06, 11:53 PM | @Undertaker and Quesis: Tactics recieved. Match will begin tomorrow. |
| Zevox08-03-06, 11:57 PM | @ Milov & ayyiniwindryder - Tactics recieved, thank you. My current situation on tactics (blue=recieved, red=waiting): Wilhelm Warsti (Rake) vs. Emorick (Iced) : Zevox [Sewer] Zodiac (Vathelokai) vs. Genia (Milov) vs. Ivan (ayyiniwindryder) vs. Osiris (Iced) : Zevox [Forest] [All vs All] Morathor (Pittbull) => Neidr Bresent (bgt) => Death (NiQil) : Zevox [Sewer] [Hunter] As you can see, I don't yet have all tactics for any fight. I'd like to run at least one fight tomorrow, since my weekend is very hectic (both saturday and sunday I work 8 and a half hours), so it would be greatly appreciated if Iced or bgt could me tactics by tomorrow afternoon! Zevox |
| Macbrea08-04-06, 07:27 AM | I am fine with Dracazar taking the week off to craft as long as Izumi gets to fight a monster. :P |
| Caterane08-04-06, 07:56 AM | @Macbrea: I'm ok with changing it to a monster fight. Please inform bluemage about that and he should send you the info. |
| Macbrea08-04-06, 08:40 AM | @Caterane and Bluemage55: Informed him by PM and sent tactics for any map vs any monster with Izumi. :P Her tactics are probably the easiest in the game to write. |
| Caterane08-04-06, 09:17 AM | @Pitlords, bluemage: There is a problem, I see this pairings: # Dracazar (Dracazar) vs. Izumi (Macbrea) : bluemage [Cavern] But Dracazar is not ready for Arena fights He is crafting scrolls: [Aug02] -0025 Craft Scroll of Mage Armor [CL1] x2 ......... [25/2 *1(SL) *1(CL)] [Aug02] -0075 Craft Scroll of Magic Missile [CL3] x2 ...... [25/2 *1(SL) *3(CL)] [Aug02] -0075 Craft Scroll of Shield [CL2] x3 ............. [25/2 *1(SL) *2(CL)] [Aug02] -0100 Craft Scroll of Shocking Grasp [CL3] x2 ..... [25/2 *1(SL) *4(CL)] [Aug02] -0025 Craft Scroll of Protection from Evil [CL2] .. [25/2 *1(SL) *2(CL)] [Aug02] -0075 Craft Scroll of Fox's Cunning(C) [CL3] ...... [25/2 *2(SL) *3(CL)] [Aug02] -0150 Craft Scroll of Invisibility(C) [CL3] x2 .... [25/2 *2(SL) *3(CL)] I just checked your title and sheet and it's no wonder I paired you. You need to add Full Activity to the title else I just read "Ready for... craft scrolls" and that's the same like that of dozens of other characters with Free Activities. Please use streamlined title lines! It's also not clear what you want to craft. I have no time during the pairings process to retrieve the craft list from somewhere within 20 sblocks; in your case it's not even clear where it starts or ends. I've added your crafting to the actions but please list that more GM friendly next time. Thanks. @Macbrea: The map stays the same. |
| hogarth08-04-06, 09:37 AM | @DSugui: tactics for Treetall sent @King Uther: tactics for Kilpquabjeg sent I'm not feeling lucky, but you never know... |
| Zevox08-04-06, 11:02 AM | @ Iced - Tactics for Emorik and Osiris recieved. Problem with Osiris' PMed. I'll run one of those fights this afternoon - Emorick's if I don't get a reply in time, Osiris' if I do. Zevox |
| Iced08-04-06, 11:24 AM | Osiris' and Emorick's tactics sent via pm to Zevox. Hopefully this forest fight will turn into a satisfactory beat down...;) |
| Myrridin08-04-06, 12:25 PM | The first part of the War vs Eraca part is up. This is freakin' ridiculous. They're both ok archers, trying to hit a good AC...and both using wands of Cure Light Wounds. I hate these fights, and hope to never Pitlord one again. |
| Abyssal Stalker08-04-06, 12:45 PM | Do scrolls count for a weapon-like object for the purpose of drawing them while moving? @Traevanon: this might affect the Quesis vs Undertaker fight! |
| Myrridin08-04-06, 01:01 PM | I was told in the past that a scroll does not count as a weapon-like item for the purpose of drawing them while moving. |
| Caterane08-04-06, 01:19 PM | @Myr: Scrolls are no weapons, even though you can kill flies and spiders with them in one hit. I also advice you to make cluster rolls with the online roller and resolve the rounds in packs of 10 if you have such a fight like that. |
| Zevox08-04-06, 02:22 PM | @ Myrridin - Looking over Eraca vs War, I have two comments to make: First, with the way you have the rounds numbered, it looks like every round from 50 to 60 dissappeared for some reason. I'm guessing this a numbering mistake on your part and rounds 60 and 61 should be 51 and 52? Second, you had Eraca's damage wrong throughout the fight. With her magical bow she does 1d8+3, not 1d8+2 - looks like you accidenatally looked at the damage entry for her backup mundane crystal bow. Looking over the fight, this may affect it, presuming thematic rolls are kept. War would hit his healing contingency at the same time as before, so no change there thankfully, but when her crits come around War would have 4 less hp, and she'd deal another 3 damage per crit and another 1 in the regular hits that occurred with them. Looking over it, in round 20 War would be reduced to 22 hp and probably heal (his next two heals roll would be bring that up to 26), then in round 25 the next hit would reduce him to 22 and his next healing would bump that to 31. My next two hits would cause him to heal at the same time he does now, bringing him down to 22 hp at the end of round 32... then the crit in 33 reduces him to 7, he heals to 14, gets hit down to 7, heals to 11, I miss, he heals to 16, and then in round 36 my crit kills him with 19 damage. Wow that was arduous work to calculate. You should probably check my calculations yourself to be sure, but it looks like that little +1 damage per hit may make all the difference. (Actually, now that I think of it, his healing would cause me not to have to heal in the late 20s of rounds most likely, so he may fall even earlier if thematic rolls are kept.) Zevox |
| Usurpator08-04-06, 03:53 PM | @Zelck: tactics for Aramur sent. |
| Myrridin08-04-06, 04:19 PM | @Zevok/Niqil: I went back, and tried to keep the rolls as in order as possible. Doing that, it does appear that Zevok's calculations are correct. I apologize for that, as I did miss the +1 longbow, which resulted in a significant enough amount of damage change. Niqil: You're welcome to look at the fight as well, and let me know what you think, but I do believe that Zevok is correct. @ All: Fights between two archers, with wands of cure light wounds, when they can't do that much damage are a massive pain to Pitlord. That, and given the size of the Forest map, withe movement penalities....ugh, just a horrible, horrible pain to run something there. |

That, and given the size of the Forest map, withe movement penalities....ugh, just a horrible, horrible pain to run something there. Trust me, I understand. Zero's battles are usually something like that, and I've run three or four of those now - one of which being dragged out 144 rounds by a healing wand. If it means anything, Eraca won't have to worry about battles becoming like this in about two levels. At ECL 8 she'll take the Craft Wand feat (bonus feat for 5th level of wizard), and among the first wands she'll craft will be Acid Arrow and Magic Missile (I haven't decided on CL 3 or 5 yet, but one of those). With those in a fight like this she could alternate firing them - one acid arrow, then one MM, and if the acid arrow hit it'd be 2d4 damage that round then 2d4+MM damage the next. It'd take more than a wand of CLW to halt that. Anyway, I'll wait to see what NiQil says before updating Eraca. And in other news, Emorick Brightstar vs Wilhelm Warsti is up. Luck and some solid tactics decided it. @ bgt - Tactics for Neidr recieved. I may try to run that tonight, but I plan on using the rest of the day getting the EHTC in order, so if that takes too long I probably won't have time. Zevox |
| MindWandererB08-04-06, 04:54 PM | And in other news, Emorick Brightstar vs Wilhelm Warsti is up. Luck and some solid tactics decided it.I have two minor comments on this one. One, you can take 5' steps in difficult terrain. The only time you can't is with the "minimum movement rule," i.e. that you can never be impeded so much that you can't even move 5 feet. If this rule applies, you can take a full-round action to move 5 feet, but it's not a 5-foot step. If your speed is at least 5' after modifiers, you can take a normal 5-foot step. Two, you don't have to post in the Character Changes thread to correct errors. Rake's illegal purchases can simply be fixed on Wilhelm's sheet. |

That, and given the size of the Forest map, withe movement penalities....ugh, just a horrible, horrible pain to run something there. I have no idea who won this fight. The fight that I am looking at has people healing when they weren't hit, people losing hp when they weren't attacked, and people regaining hp while attacking. I can't give an accurate assessment of the fight as it stands, because I have no idea which actions are correct. All that being said....one thing I do want to point out....I did ask to gain total cover if possible when healing. I don't see that happening anywhere. Maybe that's lost among everything else. If you could clean up the fight so the end round results follow the actions in that round, it would be super. Right now the result states that War wins, but I am even unsure if that is accurate. |
| Myrridin08-04-06, 05:27 PM | I'll try to clean it up Monday. I don't believe there ever was a time that you could gain total cover, and heal at the same time. Especially with the restricted movement that happens in the freakin' forest map. *sigh* Sick of CLW wand characters, and archery duals. Which reminds me, I'm back to grad school full time next week, have to remove myself from the available pitlord roster. Edit: Sort of lost in the mix, also, given what the dual had de-generated in to, to save my sanity, it didn't happen as much. I'll look at the map, and see if it's possible, without giving Eraca a few rounds of extra attacks. If it is, I'll see where I'm at Monday, and potentially re-run with that; if the frusturation level has gone down. Yeah, this is why people stop pitlording, these fights suck to run. |
| NiQil08-04-06, 06:01 PM | @ Myrridin & Zevox: Here is my synopsis of rounds 8 (when damage started) thru 30 (when the editing appears to have ended). Take a look....I am not at all sure how you come to the conclusion that the fight should be over. Keep in mind that these are just hp totals based on the end round summaries) Round 8 Eraca 36/36 War 47/55 Round 9 Eraca 36/36 War 40/55 Round 10 Eraca 25/36 War 40/55 Round 11 Eraca 25/36 War 33/55 Round 12 Eraca 25/36 War 29/55 Round 13 Eraca 25/36 War 29/55 Round 14 Eraca 25/36 War 38/55 <---the fight says 36....the fight is incorrect. Round 15 Eraca 25/36 War 42/55 <---correct after math error in round 14 Round 16 Eraca 25/36 War 43/55 <---correct after math error in round 14 Round 17 Eraca 25/36 War 28/55 <---correct after math error in round 14 At this point the actions in the round diverge from what the end round result says. I am using the end round result as the basis for the synopsis. Round 18 Eraca 25/36 War 30/55 <---correct after math error in round 14 Round 19 Eraca 25/36 War 32/55 <---correct after math error in round 14 Round 20 <---there is a damage roll here for War, but War also appears to be healing in the end round summary. I am going to assume the end round summary is correct and War healed this round (since his healing contingency is still active) Eraca 25/36 <---corrected after removing damage in round 20 War 35/55 <---correct after math error in round 14 Round 21 Eraca 25/36 <---corrected after removing damage in round 20 War 42/55 <---correct after math error in round 14 Round 22 Eraca 25/36 <---corrected after removing damage in round 20 War 46/55 <---correct after math error in round 14 Round 23 Eraca 25/36 <---corrected after removing damage in round 20 War 51/55 <---correct after math error in round 14 Round 24 Eraca 25/36 <---corrected after removing damage in round 20 War 55/55 <---correct after math error in round 14 (War should have attacked this round, rather than healing. The total healed was 5 hp, based on the end round summary). For the sake of argument, I am going to list the healing here, however this is a potential correction that could be needed. Round 25 <---at this point in the battle, War's hp start going down again, I am assuming from a previous version of the fight. Since there are no attacks on Eraca's part listed from this point forward (she heals instead), I will be ignoring those hp totals as they are obviously no longer accurate. Eraca 14/36 <---corrected after removing damage in round 20 War 55/55 <---correct after math error in round 14 Round 26 Eraca 14/36 <---corrected after removing damage in round 20 War 55/55 <---correct after math error in round 14 Round 27 Eraca 20/36 <---corrected after removing damage in round 20 War 55/55 <---correct after math error in round 14 Round 28 Eraca 27/36 <---corrected after removing damage in round 20 War 55/55 <---correct after math error in round 14 Round 29 Eraca 35/36 <---corrected after removing damage in round 20 War 55/55 <---correct after math error in round 14 Round 30 Eraca 35/36 <---corrected after removing damage in round 20 War 55/55 <---correct after math error in round 14 This appears to be the point at which the editing stopped. I am not sure how the fight would end here, since both parties are all but full of hp. There is a damage roll above that needs to be used, and a potential attack that could be made, but as far as I can tell, this is where we stand at the end of round 30. I fail to see how War would have lost at this point. Edit: To be perfectly honest, for the sake of Myriddin's sanity, I would not be at all opposed to just scrapping and doing over everything from round 10 on (that being after the magic missiles were fired in rounds 8 and 9) with fresh rolls, rather than trying to rework all of the rolls for corrections. I will be the first to admit that trying to reorder all of those rolls is going to be a pain. If Zevox is ok with that, just pick up the action from round 10 (leaving everything that had previously happened in rounds 1-9 the same) and roll it out from there fresh. |
| Zelck08-04-06, 07:15 PM | I've received all tactics for the Anakala vs Istima and Aramur fight. |
| Traevanon08-04-06, 08:17 PM | Do scrolls count for a weapon-like object for the purpose of drawing them while moving? @Traevanon: this might affect the Quesis vs Undertaker fight! I'm not sure why this would matter. Are you suggesting that they cannot be drawn as a part of movment but that they can only be drawn as a separate movment action? How about Potions, Wands, Shields and anything else that is drawn and held with one hand? It seems excessive to charge someone a full round just to walk 10 feet and pull out a scroll. I suppose I need to know what you think the action type should be. I'll check into it when I'm at home with my home computer and books in front of me. It should be interesting to find out. |

This matters because wands (and by extension, dorjes), staffs and rods (which are the only things classified as weapon-like objects) follow the rules for drawing and stowing weapons. In other words, you can draw one of these as a part of a regular move with a BAB of +1 or higher (or for free with Quick Draw), and you take no attacks of opportunity from drawing them when threatened. Scrolls, potions, powerstones, oils, etc are not classified as weapon-like objects. They, therefore, require a move action to draw them, and you provoke attacks of opportunity when drawing them while threatened. See the FAQ for further details on this topic. |

| Guildmaster (EHTC)08-04-06, 10:03 PM | @ Myrridin & NiQil - Yeah, for the sake of Myrridin's sanity, I'm fine with rerunning it from round 10 with fresh rolls. Unless Myrridin would rather sort through the current rolls of course, but somehow I doubt that'd be easier, since evidently we're all getting different results with (since for some reason I have Eraca winning in round 36, Myrridin has that in 30, and NiQil has us both at near-full hp in 30). Edit: Woops, thought I was on my own account :embarrass . Zevox |
| Traevanon08-04-06, 10:36 PM | A polite exploration of "Drawn" vs "Retrieved" According to the FaQ: "Weaponlike object carried in easy reach" is the qualification for being "drawn". So let me get it straight... An Acid Flask can be drawn but an Oil of Etherealness cannot. A Vial of Alchemist Fire can be drawn but a Potion cannot. A Longbow can be drawn but a Shield cannot (see below). A Whip can can be drawn but a Rope cannot. Ready or Loose a Shield Strapping a shield to your arm to gain its shield bonus to your AC, or unstrapping and dropping a shield so you can use your shield hand for another purpose, requires a move action. If you have a base attack bonus of +1 or higher, you can ready or loose a shield as a free action combined with a regular move. So a Shield is a Weaponlike Object as well... interesting. A previous Pitlord of mine got that wrong. Note that whenever they use the sentence starting with "If you have a base attack bonus of +1 or greater..." it means that you can Quickdraw that item according to the FaQ. Observations: If you are planning a series of buffs, why not just carry all three of four (or four hundred) scrolls in your hand and page through them as you read them? I'm not certain that the "Weaponlike Object" description was meant to be limited to actual weapons + Wands and Dorjes. Note also that technically we play in error of the normal rules to chang handedness with a weapon. We allow Bow wielders a free action at the end of their round to switch to one hand, then back to two when they go again so that they can take AoOs if they are a Monk or have Spiked Gauntlets or something. The FaQ explicitly calls this a Move Action. I would think that it would require the Quickdraw Feat to switch hands with a weapon as a Free Action if you are not taking a move action to move. Overall, I think we need a bit of a clarification on what qualifies as "Weaponlike" and "Stored In Easy Reach." This particular campaign uses those terms more than a regular D&D campaign would. Edit: Also, I would assume that any objects listed in a player's tactics aught to be assumed to be "stored in easy reach" rather than in a pouch or pack, which seems to be the main qualification for a full Move Action that provokes to Retrieve. |
| NiQil08-04-06, 10:55 PM | Observations: If you are planning a series of buffs, why not just carry all three of four (or four hundred) scrolls in your hand and page through them as you read them? Carrying three or four scrolls in one hand, while being real-world realistic, is not allowed by the rules. I'm not certain that the "Weaponlike Object" description was meant to be limited to actual weapons + Wands and Dorjes. The FAQ is explicit in what is considered a weapon-like object. Wands (and by psionic extension, dorjes), staffs and rods. That's it. The ability to remove a hand from a weapon is a free action. Allowing someone to hold a bow in one hand is perfectly acceptable and within the rules. I would very much like to see the source material you are referring to that states removing a hand from a weapon is a move action. Keep in mind that no one is talking about switching a weapon from one hand to another, which is what you are referencing. What is being spoken of is the ability to hold a two-handed weapon in one hand. The Quick Draw Feat would not cover switching a weapon from one hand to another. It already states what it covers. As I stated above, the FAQ and the RAW already spell out what is considered a weapon-like object. The things you mentioned, such as alchemist's fire, acid, etc, are all splash weapons, and can be drawn like normal weapons. I don't know how much clearer the FAQ can be as to what is and is not a weapon-like object. |
| Traevanon08-04-06, 11:58 PM | Fine with me. I'm just happy that I get to Quickdraw my Shield like I'm supposed to. It just seems kinda harsh to make someone dig around in their pack for something that they knew that they would be using immediately at the beginning of the fight. Good point on the Bow. Though think about it this way: Start: Wielding Dwarven Waraxe in the right hand. Free Action: Wield it in two hands. Free Action: Wield it in one hand (the left hand). Net result: Switching hands for free. Actually, the FaQ is not explicit in stating which objects are "Weaponlike." The particular question concerned Wands, and thus that is what was covered by the answer:Does drawing a wand from a wand sheath provoke attacks of opportunity of can I draw it as if it were a weapon? If I have Quickdraw, can I draw a wand as a free action? "As Described on Page 142 of the Player's Handbook, the 'draw a weapon' action also applies to weaponlike objects carried in easy reach, such as wands. (The Sage would suggest that magic rods and staffs also fall into this category.) Thus drawing a wand doesnt provoke an attack of opportunity, and a character with Quickdraw could draw one as a free action." By extending it to Dorjes you are already admitting that the list included in this answer is not explicit (though I'm completely willing to be reasonable). If you want to consider that the entire list for our campaign, it is fine with me, though you should include Shields as I have mentioned. It doesnt change my fight much. Quesis isnt able to actually pinpoint Undertaker unless Undertaker plays stupid, so Undertaker can take all the time he needs to finish buffing. For example, in round 1 he can Cast then Move, in round 2 he can Draw and Move, round 3 Cast and Move. Since he ends each turn with a Move (and changes squares from where he cast), his Move Silently modifier eliminates any possibility of being pinpointed. On a completely different note: Actively Listening for people never works! First of all, on your own turn the other person is no longer making noise. Oddly though, the description of the Active Listen check mentions something about hearing a noise you missed before, though it doesnt tell you how to make the check. I'm a bit confused. For example: Bob moves silently with a 21 MS. Ralph reactively listens for a 7, failing. Bob casts a spell. Ralph reactively listens for a -2, failing. On Ralph's turn, he actively listens... Is he listening vs a new move silently check or against the original 21 move silently check again or against his choice of noises from the previous round (the casting in this case) or something else entirely? Edit: Incidentally, though I have only Pitlorded about eight fights this is not the first time I have run into either of these issues. It will certainly not be the last. It is only the first time anyone has made an issue of it. I kinda figured up until this point that it was just one of those things that was consigned to Pitlord judgement. Since you seem to be fairly certain about the situation however, and are an Elder, I must consider your words to be a ruling and will reference them for later fights. |
| DSugui08-05-06, 01:06 AM | Quick Draw [General] Prerequisite Base attack bonus +1. Benefit You can draw a weapon as a free action instead of as a move action. You can draw a hidden weapon (see the Sleight of Hand skill) as a move action. A character who has selected this feat may throw weapons at his full normal rate of attacks (much like a character with a bow). Normal Without this feat, you may draw a weapon as a move action, or (if your base attack bonus is +1 or higher) as a free action as part of movement. Without this feat, you can draw a hidden weapon as a standard action. Draw or Sheathe a Weapon Drawing a weapon so that you can use it in combat, or putting it away so that you have a free hand, requires a move action. This action also applies to weapon-like objects carried in easy reach, such as wands. If your weapon or weapon-like object is stored in a pack or otherwise out of easy reach, treat this action as retrieving a stored item. If you have a base attack bonus of +1 or higher, you may draw a weapon as a free action combined with a regular move. If you have the Two-Weapon Fighting feat, you can draw two light or one-handed weapons in the time it would normally take you to draw one. Drawing ammunition for use with a ranged weapon (such as arrows, bolts, sling bullets, or shuriken) is a free action. Dropping a carried (but not worn) shield is a free action. Shields are not weapon like objects, thus they cannot be quickdrawn. They simply follow the same rule that allows you to draw a weapon as a part of a movement if you have BAB +1. For the other objects you mention: You have half a dozen kinds of potions and half a dozen scrolls stored in the same pouch or scroll case. You have to sort them, then pick up the one you want. A wand is sheathed in your belt, easily reached. The same for wands and rods. To me, is quite reasonable that you take longer to retrieve a scroll or a potion than to draw a wand, or maybe a flask of acid, stored in another pouch for you not to drink it accidentally... If you are concerned with buffing your character with several spells and don't want to draw a scroll every round, make one scroll with all your buff spells on it. Lots of people do that. |

Unless a character was completely motionless for the entire previous round, they are making noise. You don't have to move from place to place to make noise, after all. The check is against a standard MS check. |
| NiQil08-05-06, 03:19 AM | Sorry, shields are not just weapon-like objects, but weapons. Shield bash, and all. So yes, you can quickdraw them, IMO. This brings up an interesting theory.....how would you treat a buckler? By your theorum, shields are weapons, due to shield bashing. You can't bash with a buckler, yet it is a shield. So which would be true? As to the question at hand, shields cannot be quick drawn. They are not weapon-like objects, as set forth in the FAQ, and they are not weapons, as set forth in the weapons section of the SRD. You can make attacks with them, but that doesn't cause them to fall under the classification of a weapon. Anything can be used to make attacks (improvised weapon rules), but that doesn't make it a weapon where it relates to quick draw and the +1 BAB rule. |

The most rules-lawyerish answer would be that since bucklers aren't weapons, and quickdraw only applies to weapons, you can't quickdraw a buckler. To me, is quite reasonable that you take longer to retrieve a scroll or a potion than to draw a wand, or maybe a flask of acid, stored in another pouch for you not to drink it accidentally... :) Well, on the other hand... It's not too hard to think about a belt where you place the scrolls on a clear order (basically, if we can start with certain items carried, why wouldn't we be able to sort our items before a fight). And if we go to the other end of this kind of thinking, you might also be carrying multiple wands. It would be really awkward if you accidentally tapped yourself on the forehead with a wand of magic missiles instead of a wand of cure light wounds... ZAP! :headexplo I'm fine with any ruling, I just wanted to bring this up before Traevanon spends more time on the fight. It's always nicer to edit only 5 rounds instead of 15. BTW, I noticed another thing - the spells from the scrolls have only a CL of 1, meaning that they should last only 1/4 of the time. |
| Traevanon08-05-06, 07:21 AM | Oops, I goofed on that one. Thanks Abyssal. Just wanted to mention to DSugui that by his reading of Quickdraw, Wands cannot be Quickdrawn which is clearly against the FaQ. |
| Traevanon08-05-06, 08:13 AM | Fight edited to reflect rulings here. Nothing changed, but only by luck. The key item was whether Quesis was going to accidentally bump into Undertaker by moving toward the random sounds he keeps hearing, though chances are he wouldnt have an attack left to use by the time he bumped him anyhow. |
| lonewolf08-05-06, 08:55 AM | Daisy & Dronnar vs Medusa & Vrock is done. |
| hogarth08-05-06, 08:55 AM | :) Well, on the other hand... It's not too hard to think about a belt where you place the scrolls on a clear order (basically, if we can start with certain items carried, why wouldn't we be able to sort our items before a fight). I believe there are D&D items in other books that allow quicker use of scrolls and potions, just not in the Core rules. For better or for worse, this is the Core Coliseum so such technology must not have disseminated itself to this corner of the world. |
| Iced08-05-06, 11:27 AM | Speaking of which, I have some unexpected free time myself; if anyone wants to delegate something to me to run tomorrow, let me have it. I'll actually have all day available, if you've got a doozy (like one of the dreaded CLW-wand battles) that you'd rather not do. @NiQil: Agreed. Stupid, but agreed. There's one of those D&D != Common Sense things. @Iced: I would still like a response on last week's Sunstroke/Daisy fight. I hate to nag, but the mistake was a big one.... I'll look at it when i run my fight this week. No time now. ~Iced |
| TheMagister08-05-06, 02:00 PM | Daisy & Dronnar vs Medusa & Vrock is done. Looked this over, and had a question: Did you take into account this attribute of the forest map? Impeeded Flight: Since the forest is so dense, all flight on this map is impeeded, which is to say, any square of movement counts as two squares of movement while flying. This does not hinder other forms of movement, except where noted. It would affect both the Vrocks' and the hippogriff's flight speeds, and also might affect whether or not the Vrock can full attack Dronnar (if Dronnar strikes and then moves behind the cover provided by the hedges surrounding the starting squares, the cover would prevent an AoO). Just a question. Darned monster fights... TM |

I disagree, but I have no time to prove it atm. But even if you are right, you have to look at the casterlevel of the Vrock and not the spelllevel so the duration would be at least 12 rounds. |
| Pittbull08-05-06, 04:09 PM | Yes it takes one full round to activate his SLA and his casterlevel is 12. The only thing that confuses me is : "This ability is the equivalent of a 3rd-level spell. " So the duration might be only 5 rounds not 12. |
| Caterane08-05-06, 04:25 PM | Summon Monster III cast by a 12th level caster is a 3rd level spell at CL 12. It's as simple as that. The spell level is important for counters and whatnot. |
| Usurpator08-05-06, 04:30 PM | I disagree, but I have no time to prove it atm. But even if you are right, you have to look at the casterlevel of the Vrock and not the spelllevel so the duration would be at least 12 rounds. Negative on all counts: Summon (Sp): A creature with the summon ability can summon specific other creatures of its kind much as though casting a summon monster spell, but it usually has only a limited chance of success (as specified in the creature’s entry). Roll d%: On a failure, no creature answers the summons. Summoned creatures automatically return whence they came after 1 hour. A creature that has just been summoned cannot use its own summon ability for 1 hour. Most creatures with the ability to summon do not use it lightly, since it leaves them beholden to the summoned creature. In general, they use it only when necessary to save their own lives. An appropriate spell level is given for each summoning ability for purposes of Concentration checks and attempts to dispel the summoned creature. No experience points are awarded for summoned monsters. One hour in all cases.... |
| Vathelokai08-05-06, 06:19 PM | And Also...A spell-like ability has no verbal, somatic, or material component, nor does it require a focus or have an XP cost. The user activates it mentally. Armor never affects a spell-like ability’s use, even if the ability resembles an arcane spell with a somatic component. A spell-like ability has a casting time of 1 standard action unless noted otherwise in the ability or spell description. In all other ways, a spell-like ability functions just like a spell. |
| DSugui08-05-06, 10:55 PM | It's no matter really. One Vrock is enough to take down Daisy and Dronnar easily. Daisy simply lack the means to defeat it, and Dronnar has to survive 4 attacks per round that hit him easily. This is where monster fights are so unfair: we cannot have an auto win, but they can... It was simply impossible to win this fight to begin with, so why care? I am just a little upset because this defeat breakes the killing spree Daisy was on so far... |
| King Uther08-05-06, 11:39 PM | @hogarth Did you email the tactics? I don't see it in my PM box. |

That means that if you have a great renown character who loses a monster fight (which might have been practically impossible), you lose a massive amount to your rating. |

That means that if you have a great renown character who loses a monster fight (which might have been practically impossible), you lose a massive amount to your rating. I was running my first monster fight last week, and I noticed that the harpy with the 7HD and +3LA would have been an ECL10 character. Against an ECL3/4 (I can't remember wich) character. Of course it didn't have as much equipment as a CoCo character of that level woud have had. The funniest thing is that the harpy was killed on a single hit... |

That means that if you have a great renown character who loses a monster fight (which might have been practically impossible), you lose a massive amount to your rating. Monster fights are swingy. Often monsters don't stand any chance (50%), sometimes characters don't stand any chance (20%), and sometimes its a fight that could go both ways (30%). But monsters lose more fights than they win, meaning that their actual rating should probably be below 1000. |

I counted them up a while ago, but not recently, but I think monsters currently have a winning record. |
| Dracazar08-06-06, 05:04 AM | I just checked your title and sheet and it's no wonder I paired you. Ok, sorry for the mess |
| lonewolf08-06-06, 07:08 AM | @DSugui: It was really no fun pitlording that fight, when I see no chance of your characters winning. I once again propose to change the random monster list to remove changes in CR, nonspecific enemies(i.e. Halffiend cleric5) and to include psionic monsters from the SRD. If I get a signal from Cat that such a change might be considered, I would volunteer to do it myself. |
| Dracazar08-06-06, 08:02 AM | @Traevanon I'm a bit perplexed with your pitlording of Abyssal Stalker's tactic: Start with a scroll of invisibility in my hand. 1st round: Cast the spell and take out a scroll of mage armor. 2nd round: Cast mage armor and take out a scroll of expeditious retreat. 3rd round: Cast exp retreat and take out a scroll of shield. 4th round: Cast shield and move towards Quesis. You did: 1st round: Cast, Move 5', Draw 2nd round: Cast, Draw, Move 5' 3rd round: Cast, Draw, Move 5' 4th round: Cast, move NOT towards Quesis Inside global tactic, he never asked to move while drawing and casting to elude pinpointing He did a clear path of what to do within first 4 round and never asked to move You are moving because you know Quesis would pinpoint Undertaker as soon as possible but for this goal Quesis forsweared her buffs Abyssal Stalker didn't mentioned to move 5' inside tactic perhaps because he didn't expect Quesis renounce her buffs and that she has LoS of Undertaker I'm ok (and I like) active pitlording but it should be balanced with character aquaintance Also here: Undertaker is faced with a dilemma. He too close to Quesis. He is unable to move out of charge range and with his True Strike quickly ebbing, he backs out of AoO range and fires Use true strike+scorching ray from spells maximum range (35ft). Then move away. If true strike needs to be wasted so be it. More important is that I don't get charged after casting the spell. I should be able to get a distance of 95ft, so I should be safe The action of casting true strike should have been done even if Quesis is too close because there is nothing that was written in the tactic (and could be done) to prevent reactive listen checks and Quesis approaching. However let me say that these are minor observations and I like your pitlording and your thoughts about draw scrolls/weapons are very interesting |
| DSugui08-06-06, 01:45 PM | Monsieur Hood (TheMagister) vs. Khabil Barukh (Traevanon) is up HERE It was not very relevant to this fight, but: - The balance issue TM brought up: In the map description it is not said anything about balance checks, only that the water is considered dificult terrain. "Wet floor" and "1ft water deep" are quite diferent (you don't have to balance when you are in a pool, for example) so I just ignored that for now. - The skate issue Traev brought up: below the water there is a solid surface - no one is wlaking over the water, so I think skate work just fine in the watered squares. @DSugui: It was really no fun pitlording that fight, when I see no chance of your characters winning. I once again propose to change the random monster list to remove changes in CR, nonspecific enemies(i.e. Halffiend cleric5) and to include psionic monsters from the SRD. | DSugui08-06-06, 04:13 PM | Ilendil (TelinArtho) vs. Andurwin (Zelck) is up HERE He who shoot first won. |
| TheMagister08-06-06, 06:10 PM | I didnt match up too well in that fight, but being hit exactly to 15hp didnt help. Good job TM I have to admit, I saw Hood's first 3 or 4 rounds of attack rolls and thought "oh boy...here we go..." until I saw the natural 20 on the fort save vs. stunning. Hood got lucky several times, mostly on the saving throw and NOT getting hit with the alky fire. Yeah, the 15 hp thing did kinda suck, and me regaining focus and hitting that round didn't help. If I hadn't regained focus, the fight could've gone on for quite a while. Thanks, DSugui. Hope you're feeling better! TM |

| Traevanon08-07-06, 08:55 AM | @Traevanon I'm a bit perplexed with your pitlording of Abyssal Stalker's tactic: You did: 1st round: Cast, Move 5', Draw 2nd round: Cast, Draw, Move 5' 3rd round: Cast, Draw, Move 5' 4th round: Cast, move NOT towards Quesis Inside global tactic, he never asked to move while drawing and casting to elude pinpointing He did a clear path of what to do within first 4 round and never asked to move You are moving because you know Quesis would pinpoint Undertaker as soon as possible but for this goal Quesis forsweared her buffs Abyssal Stalker didn't mentioned to move 5' inside tactic perhaps because he didn't expect Quesis renounce her buffs and that she has LoS of Undertaker I PMed Abyssal as soon as I saw Undertaker's tactics because I thought not moving was an oversight. Once you go invisible it only makes sense to change your position. With casting spells a DC0 listen check, it makes sense to change your position after doing that as well. Perhaps I should have forwarded the PM? Oh, and as for "not moving toward Quesis" his goal was to reach a range of 35' (as you will see below). When he wrote that part of his tactic he was clearly assuming that you would still be beyond 35'. I'm ok (and I like) active pitlording but it should be balanced with character aquaintance Also here: The action of casting true strike should have been done even if Quesis is too close because there is nothing that was written in the tactic (and could be done) to prevent reactive listen checks and Quesis approaching. However let me say that these are minor observations and I like your pitlording and your thoughts about draw scrolls/weapons are very interesting I'm not sure about this one, perhaps I should explain. He asked to forego casting Scorching Ray (not true strike) if you were too close. He wanted to be exactly at 35' range when it was cast so that he could move beyond 90' (your double move + reach) afterward. I missed that the first time, but caught it when I picked up the fight later. In order to hit that range Quesis had to completely fail 3 straight Listen checks. Incidentally, as I mentioned, Quesis failing 3 listen checks meant that she had no sound to move towards, leaving her with the readied action. Also, note that your tactics mention nothing about readying to move if you have nothing to move towards, but it makes sense so I went ahead and did it. Similarly your tactics say to Move and then Listen if you lost LoS, but there were times it made more sense to Listen and then Move. |
| Dracazar08-07-06, 11:27 AM | Thank you for pitlording the fight. I would only point that Abyssal Stalker asked to use Scorching Ray + Scorching Ray + Burning Hands but the sequence you used (Ray + Hands + Ray) was more risky for Quesis because that sequence would not trigger the ready Vigor action. About your extra PM, I'm sorry but I could not be aware of that so this is the reason why I was perplexed for his movement since 1st round. About the 90' distance, you are right I didn't tought to 3 failed listen checks in a row in my tactic. |
| Traevanon08-07-06, 11:31 AM | I used burning hands second because Undertaker was assuming he would be at range for the second spell. Burning hands doesnt require a to-hit roll however, and since you were in melee it was the better choice, leaving Scorching Ray as the only spell left after that. |
| Myrridin08-07-06, 11:54 AM | Well, I re-did the fight of War vs Eraca Moralta, and the winner is posted in there. | Zevox08-07-06, 11:58 AM | Well, I re-did the fight of War vs Eraca Moralta, and the winner is posted in there. Well, no way to argue with a critical like that. Thanks again for running it, especially considering how much of a pain it was. Hopefully Eraca doesn't get another fight with one of NiQil's horsemen for a good, long time, because both of the ones shes had thus far have come down to criticals ending them. Edit: Wait, one thing. In the wrap-up, you forgot that Eraca cast her memorized Cat's Grace as well (she bungled it, but its still lost to her). Zevox |
| Myrridin08-07-06, 12:10 PM | Yeah, I figured it almost evened out. Eraca dealt a number of criticals to War, but his one was just too big at the end. *sigh* I'll edit to mention the memorized Cat's Grace that she cast. |
| DSugui08-07-06, 02:03 PM | I am having problems with my computer, so probably I will not be able to run my last fight. If anyone can take it, I will forward the tactics, if not, I will try to run the fight tomorrow. |
| Erithmu08-07-06, 05:22 PM | @Iced: Pestilance made his first save vs ego whip you forgot to include the +2 for his racial trait. You need to run a slightly longer fight, his will saves are at a +7 vs powers. PM sent as well |
| Zevox08-07-06, 09:40 PM | Zodiac vs Genia vs Ivan vs Osiris is up. The one with the most luck wins (and thats a lot of luck). @ Pittbull, bgt, & NiQil - That fight took longer than I expected, so yours may be late. I work tomorrow afternoon and evening, so I'll have to run it tomorrow morning, and if it isn't finished by the time I leave I'll have to finish it tomorrow night or wednesday morning. Rest assured that I intend to finish it, however. Zevox |

| ayyiniwindryder08-07-06, 10:27 PM | @Zevox - Ivan's tactics say to ready shots against casting and you have him rapid shotting. With those attack rolls, however, it doesn't really matter, heh. Not even sure if it would have chaged the fight anyway. *shrug* |

Thats why I did that. If you had readied, you would just have been sitting there taking shots for no good reason, doing nothing in return. Zevox |

If you haven't sent your tactics - you have ~10 hours to do so... @Zevox - I will continue and finish up the quest week 2 in the morning. I hope I made things a little bit easier to Pitlord for you by not also bringing my allies. @Telin & Zevox: sorry for the potion of invisibility, but I sort of expected to be a prime target for hold person, and with a 75% chance to fail the save... I'd rather the spell was targeted at Istima. I bought the potion especially for such occasions, and since the extra gold from a win in an FFA could better offset the expenses, I thought to go for it. Of course, a little luck helps too. |

No...Kilpquabjeg was also using Forgery, so the rewards are correct. Thanks for the pitlording, K.U.! I just have one question: I was under the impression that the standard rule was to roll Spot/Hide checks whenever they apply. It says in the rules: Note that hiding is not an action; if a character has cover, he will automatically try to hide. However, you had Ceilia auto-Spot Kilp even when she had concealment (and thus could use Hide). Am I mistaken about the policy? The same thing happened last week with Treetall Oakleg -- he kept getting autospotted even though he had concealment and thus could use Hide. |

I'm going to bed :P. There's a couple of minor things I would mention - but I don't think they would make a difference in the end - so I'll just let it be. I think the rewards are incorrect though. Ana has 2 CR1 allies and suffers a 25% penalty Aramur has 2 CR1 allies that he prebuffed, but did not bring - he still suffers a 25% penalty. Istima has 2 CR1 allies - but uses forgery, so the penalty is only 12.5%. This nets out to: Istima getting a 12.5% bonus. Ana and Aramur get a 6.25% penalty. (25 vs 25/2+12.5/2 = 6.25%) |
| TelinArtho08-08-06, 10:12 AM | Has this been changed for 3WC? I thought, poisons don't carry over to the next fight. It carries over within the 3FC, but not outside of it. |
| TelinArtho08-08-06, 11:29 AM | Nathas vs Bogog the Ogre is up. Quick and dirty. Time to move on to the other fight... |
| Zevox08-08-06, 11:41 AM | This nets out to: Istima getting a 12.5% bonus. Ana and Aramur get a 6.25% penalty. (25 vs 25/2+12.5/2 = 6.25%) Um, Telin... thats exactly what he gave us. @ hogarth - Ah, okay. Never occurred to me to check for that for some reason. I'll edit Ceilia appropriately. @ Vath - Yep. Edited post wrap-up to mention the ongoing poisoned bolt. Zevox |
| TelinArtho08-08-06, 01:18 PM | Did I mention that I had a REALLY long week last week...? How about this: I'm sensitive and I throw things... (okay - I can't read either...) |
| hogarth08-08-06, 02:37 PM | I am having problems with my computer, so probably I will not be able to run my last fight. If anyone can take it, I will forward the tactics, if not, I will try to run the fight tomorrow. @DSugui: What's the status of the Sali Kan vs. Treetall Oakleg fight? Did you get someone else to run it, or are you going to do it? |
| lonewolf08-08-06, 02:49 PM | @Huan: Any status on Chameleon vs Perius yet? Since I am conceding I am a bit suprised that it isnt up yet. |
| TelinArtho08-08-06, 02:58 PM | Well then, let me be the first to appologize in advance... *coughclwwandscough* Ironically enough, the CLW wand has nothing to do with the problem with this fight... Famine was eliminated far too quickly for it to be an issue. Unfortunately, what I am left with is a character who moves at 20 with a tower shield vs a guy who moves at 60 with only ranged attacks - who wants to stay at a far enough distance that he can't negate the total cover of his opponent. EDIT - Actually, that's not the problem... just realized something that changes that... |
| Zevox08-08-06, 03:00 PM | @ lonewolf - Don't worry about that, Huan's always a bit late with his fights. I can't recall him ever failing to finish a fight though. I wouldn't worry about it unless its not up by tomorow morning. @ My Hunters - Sorry guys, but it looks like your fight will indeed be late. I had a bit of a wrestling match with my internet connection just getting to post the setup and space for the fight, and now its approaching time for me to be off to work. I apologize, but I will make certain the fight is finished by tomorrow morning, even if I have to stay up all night finishing it. Zevox |
| MindWandererB08-08-06, 03:23 PM | However, you had Ceilia auto-Spot Kilp even when she had concealment (and thus could use Hide). Am I mistaken about the policy? The same thing happened last week with Treetall Oakleg -- he kept getting autospotted even though he had concealment and thus could use Hide.I was confused about this as well. That is the correct policy, and there should be no autospotting when you have any kind of cover or concealment (except self-concealment, like Blur). |
| DSugui08-08-06, 03:39 PM | @DSugui: What's the status of the Sali Kan vs. Treetall Oakleg fight? Did you get someone else to run it, or are you going to do it? I will not be able to run the fight, and no one has volunteered to take it so far. I posted the setup here, if anyone wnats to take it, fell free to do so. |

If it helps, you're allowed to all of Hassan's expendables (and Hassan wouldn't be above looting Famine's corpse since all stolen items are returned, even if used). *EDIT* Just checked the Rolls (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=395)... Man, the dice gods hate me this week. Retrying every UMD check twice and crit failing on my super attack. Ouch. |

Well, you did need to grab the arrows I found, but yes - the super attack missed, and that was a big one. In fact - it would've made all the difference. I've got the fight finished, just working up the rewards now. |
| TelinArtho08-08-06, 04:37 PM | Karen vs Famine and Hassan is up. If there's edits to be made - I have noted some things in the pitlord comments that will need to be added (so no need to bring those in to the discussion). Also, you'll note that I've already made some edits. It is entirely possible I forgot to strikeout something from the original run. If that is the case - ignore it or let me know and I'll strike it out. |
| Zelck08-08-06, 07:12 PM | Just one thing: Hold Person is a will save, not a fortitude save. Doesn't matter for Istima since his will save is only +1 better than his fortitude (high con, mediocre wis), but its worth noting for the future. Ookay, I swear it said Fort. Honest! *glares at self* ;) |
| bgt08-08-06, 09:17 PM | I was just reading Neidr's opponent's tactics and, well, In the name of all that is small ,furry, and kitten shaped, you can attack people that aren't your targets in hunter matches?!? I had no idea! Ah, well, looks like Neider is in for a tougher match than I thought. |

In round 4, Karen moves to a location where she gains LOS to Famine. Famine then spends round 4 firing. I am wondering what the distance was between Famine and Karen at that point. If I am judging the map correctly, it appears to be 65 ft, which would be inside of the range threshold I set, meaning Famine should have at least single moved away that round, rather than full attacked. If this proves to be true, then that would mean that the ranges for movement are all changed and Famine may never end up in melee at all. Of course, I could be judging the map wrong, which is why I ask. Also, when the pegasus dropped from the sky, shouldn't Karen have taken falling damage? |

| NiQil08-08-06, 09:54 PM | I got the impression that Karen was never mounted during the fight. Hmmm...now that you mention it, you do appear to be correct. Maybe that is what is throwing me off with the map..... Edit: After looking at it again, I see that this is the case...so no worries about falling damage. But my question about the ranges in round 4 still stands...it appears to me that Famine should have moved away there, rather then full attacking. That extra distance between Karen and Famine at that point may very well keep Famine out of melee entirely, assuming I am judging the distances accurately. |
| ayyiniwindryder08-08-06, 11:08 PM | I'm still new to this, so I don't really know what to do if nobody runs my fight with hogarth (Sali Kan vs Treetall). It is my understanding that it is already past the deadline. I can't set Sali as ready for 8/9, can I? Am I just stuck waiting until someone runs it, or is the fight ignored like it was never paired? Anyone have any useful information for me? |
| Zelck08-08-06, 11:18 PM | Ilendil (TelinArtho) vs. Andurwin (Zelck) is up HERE He who shoot first won. Shoot. I JUST realized something, now that it's probably too late to change the fight. Ilendil was shooting me across the hedges. Now, the rules for the map say: * Hedges: Hedges are marked as green line. They are 5ft high and grant total cover against targets on the opposite site to medium characters if the character attempts to hide behind it. Large creatures must crawl in order to benefit from the cover. Bigger creatures do not benefit from hedges. Presumably, that means I get improved cover when not actively trying to hide behind it, which gives me +8 AC and the attack misses. Can you just roll up a reflex save + an overchanneled Energy Missiles (Cold) and see if that would take Ilendil down? If the damage roll isn't high enough to kill Ilendil, there'd be no need to fix anything. Ways to avoid re-running the fight: - I get total cover from the hedges somehow, meaning I can't attack either. I'll still have to step into the open and get shot. - I don't roll high enough on the EM to take him down. EDIT: If changing the fight means I won't be able to take part in next week's action, it's not worth it. I won't be getting home till 7 EST tomorrow, sadly :(, which is past the edit deadline. Is there some way I can either get an extension, or maybe fight the next round normally and then retroactively add in the extra gp/xp if I win? EDIT2: Also note that EM(Cold) has a fort save, meaning Ilendil gets no benefit from cover against it. |
| TelinArtho08-08-06, 11:27 PM | Sorry Niqil - I should've included coordinates. I actually thought it would be a pretty quick fight (and it would've if Hassan hadn't missed...). For the round in question, you start at (26,14) and take a 5ft step to (25,15). Karen is at (41,31) (top left corner). She actually has cover on the shot - now that I look at it again, but regardless, the distance is 115ft. Actually, with the -2 from that, and the +4 from cover - the hit is just barely true. I'll edit that in if further changes are needed. If you want the position by rounds - I can spend some time on it, but I can't guarantee anything before the deadline. As to Karen - as has been pointed out - she wasn't riding Thranduil. |

Nope...no worries...that was the only question I had...avoiding melee was really the only chance we had in this fight, so once that didn't happen, we were pretty well sunk. Unless Vath or lonewolf have issues, nothing is jumping out at me. |

Since he had heard Andurwin move on the next street over, then it would seem to me that hiding at the other hedge (south 2 and east 1) would be more in line with my tactics. In that situation, Andurwin would not be able to spot Ilendil before Andurwin got shot at. |

In that situation, Andurwin would not be able to spot Ilendil before Andurwin got shot at. I don't think Ilendil ever made a listen check vs. Andurwin, and seeing the psicrystal coming up the street probably caused him to think that Andurwin was coming that way too. Also note that the psicrystal has seen Ilendil (no cover) and has relayed that information to Andurwin. |
| TelinArtho08-09-06, 12:11 AM | Round 5 Ilendil heard something moving east from where he is, so he goes to the next street and hides [2x Move] [Ilendil Move Silently [8]+11-5=14 vs Thalac Listen [17]+6-8(distance)=15] Andurwin moves a little [Move] and readies to manifest on sight [Stan] Thalac heard Ilendil moving, so it goes in his direction to investigate [2x Move], telepathic telling its master that it heard something. Looking at the fight, it appears no MS vs Listen was made for Andurwin's movement - which doesn't make any sense - since the MS roll is made for the psicrystal. However, my argument was based on the note that Ilendil "heard something" - I don't see how moving streets helps shoot anything down that particular street - so he's just as happy at the previous street. |
| DSugui08-09-06, 12:26 AM | Actually, since Andurwin was on the corner of the street, he would gain only +4AC for cover and the attack would still hit, changing nothing. |

Its generally not the brightest idea if you can get away from them or attack your own target instead since killing someone else's target gives them the rewards for the kill, but its allowed. Zevox |

| Zevox08-09-06, 04:51 AM | As promised, Morathor => Neidr => Death is finished. A strange fight marked by some real odd luck on one palyer's part and me forgetting most of Morathor's buffs until about 5 rounds after I should have started counting them, then having to redo those rounds. Anyway, I'm getting some sleep. Probably won't have time to fix issues that are worth fixing before the next pairings, so I hope none exist. 'Night everyone. Zevox |
| Pittbull08-09-06, 04:57 AM | Whow! This was a lot of work. Thanks for running the fight in time, so we won't have a delay. |
| Vathelokai08-09-06, 05:38 AM | Karen vs Famine and Hassan is up.... The only thing I can think of is that Hassan would have tumbled back to try to escape from Karen (since Hassan has 5 ranks in it). I'm confused by the map, so it might be futile, but with expid retreat going, it might buy me a round. Since there wasn't a melee escape clause in the tactics, it's up to you if you try it; I'll accept the loss, no problem. |

I do try to do customizations that are within the bounds of characters, but if I miss something and it wasn't in the tactics - I'm not inclined to change it. I'll only edit the fight if I have time, but I would say just take the loss for now. |

If you would like a full activity as a consolation, PM Pitlords with the activity you would like. Just a follow-up question: how does the Full Activity fit in with the 3-fight cycle? For instance, Treetall is on Fight 3 of his cycle. Does the Full Activity count as Fight 1 of a new cycle? Or is it not part of a cycle at all? Does having the fight held over count against the "two active characters" limit? I would imagine so, but I'm not sure. |
| TelinArtho08-09-06, 11:20 AM | This is all very strange, but has anyone seen Huan? This is uncharacteristically late for him at this point for his two fights, and for that matter the quest he's yet to finish. I've checked in IC and in the CoCo roller but haven't seen anything there. |

So you can do a full activity, but still need 3 fights to fresh up your equipment or spells/powers. If a fight is held over, it doesn't count as an active character. |
