| waywreth12-20-06, 09:55 AM | Fights of the Week: December 20th Please don't edit the sheet after the deadline or you will lose the match. Rules of Gladius All that you need to know is written in the Rules of Gladius. It could be useful also to give a look to the Court Decisions Part 1 and Part 2. Please do not make fake accounts or insult the Elders. Pairings GM Caterane will pair the active Characters of Gladius after the deadline. Make sure that your character is not in prison (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=571107&goto=lastpost). Pitlording You should use the CoCo Dice Roller (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com) for the fight. If you need it, there is a nice template ready to use that will help. You could find the Battle Map Tag Generator (http://www.hwx.it/coco) for dynamic Maps very useful. You must post a link to your fight in this thread when it is complete. Another useful link is the Quick Access tables for XP and Gold. If a fight needs to be rerun, the Pitlord has to inform the Pitlords account. He cannot react to requests from Players because the other player and the pitlord might disagree. He has no time to read the fight and the discussion. Please keep that in mind. PMs from players with rerun requests won't have an impact. Recent News and Developments Happy Holidays! If you're in a guild (or just interested in it) the World Event begins this week. Also if you're interested in the guild system please vote in the "Discussion: What should the guild system be like?" Comments & Concerns Post any comments or concerns for this weeks fights in this thread. Be kind and courteous to your fellow posters, and don't feed the pitlords. Please remember that they do hard work and consume a lot of time to let you play. Above all, have FUN! If you have questions or comments on any of the changes, please make your posts be heard in the Council of Gladius! |
| McJarvis12-20-06, 01:24 PM | Attention to gladiators getting me as a pitlord: I would greatly appreciate tactics by Wednesday night if possible...I'm traveling all day Friday and then will be with family for the holidays. I can do fights on saterday/sunday/monday, but I would rather not have to. |
| nightbanegod12-20-06, 01:33 PM | woot im the second poster!!! |
| waywreth12-20-06, 01:40 PM | woot im the second poster!!! Actually you'd be 3rd, since I was first. :P |
| TelinArtho12-20-06, 03:12 PM | Time's up ladies and gents. |
| McJarvis12-20-06, 03:12 PM | As Telin would say, time is "up". Time to turn in your pencils. :) |
| Zevox12-20-06, 03:20 PM | As Telin would did say, time is "up". Time to turn in your pencils. :) :D |
| McJarvis12-20-06, 03:21 PM | :D Do I know him or what? :-) |
| Pitlords12-20-06, 06:15 PM | PAIRINGS DONE Credit Changes +6: Rith +4: MWB, Sauro, Cat +3: Abyssal, DSugui, Iced, McJarvis, Vath +2: Mitza, Telin, Zevox +1: Hiruma, Macbrea, Spash, User, Niqil, TM |
| TelinArtho12-20-06, 06:20 PM | And Kraegin's tactics are away. Good luck Zevox... at least its a wide open map... |
| DSugui12-20-06, 06:23 PM | So, here we go! Krug Butcher (DSugui) vs. Danidus of the Sands (Vecnoran) : Abyssak Stalker [Temple]Krug is actually ECL 6 now, despite being listed in the ECL 5 league. Dudael Angelus (DSugui) vs. Zassl (Maraxus) : Iced [Sewer]Somehow, this could be worse... Little Daisy (DSugui) vs. Anixx the Warbringer (Iced) : Maraxus [Arena]Oh, sweet revenge. This is a fight I was looking foward to... Tactics will be sent tomorrow. |
| TelinArtho12-20-06, 06:29 PM | I'll get the rest of my tactics done tomorrow morning. @spash - noted a small error on your sheet - nothing fight affecting, just figured I'd note it though. |
| spasheridan12-20-06, 06:33 PM | I seemed to have put Fyhir's Silver Axe under 'equipment @ home' - does that mean I can't pick it up on my way to the arena to fight that werewolf? |
| waywreth12-20-06, 06:36 PM | I seemed to have put Fyhir's Silver Axe under 'equipment @ home' - does that mean I can't pick it up on my way to the arena to fight that werewolf? That is correct (and doh!). |
| Hirumajoe12-20-06, 06:36 PM | Kai Engel (Hirumajoe) vs. Bazili Stasha (Hrothmund) : Spasheridan [Arena] I'm suddenly having a feeling of Deja Vu. Are there any rules against identical fights (with identical pitlords!) two weeks in a row? If not, I guess I can look forward to the rematch... |
| Milov12-20-06, 06:39 PM | Spasheridan - Tactics for The Mask Man sent. Zevox - Tactics for Nanasi are being created now. Should be sent soon. Tactics for Nanasi sent. |
| McJarvis12-20-06, 06:40 PM | @Nightbane looks like you're getting that match against me you wanted. Good luck! :) |
| MindWandererB12-20-06, 06:45 PM | Kai Engel (Hirumajoe) vs. Bazili Stasha (Hrothmund) : Spasheridan [Arena] I'm suddenly having a feeling of Deja Vu. Are there any rules against identical fights (with identical pitlords!) two weeks in a row? If not, I guess I can look forward to the rematch... True, it's not supposed to happen. Different arenas may make it permissible, but not when completely the same. PM Pitlords. @UserNamer: Tactics for Gakhnalak have been sent. |
| Pitlords12-20-06, 07:06 PM | Blame it on the pairingsmaker... Kai Engel (Hirumajoe) vs. Blizzard (NiQil) : MindwandererB [Arena] Mithos Durrol (Zevox) vs. Bazili Stasha (Hrothmund) : Spasheridan [Arena] Danidus of the Sands (Vecnoran) vs. Unknown Monster : Abyssak Stalker [Temple] Legion (Spasheridan) vs. Krug Butcher (DSugui) : MindwandererB [Cavern] |
| waywreth12-20-06, 07:52 PM | Actually Anselm Falstred (rowsdower44) vs. Matthis Dar'ath II (waywreth) : TelinArtho [Arena] is a rematch of last week as well, with Telin as the Pitlord this time. Keep it or not, no big deal either way for me. |
| NiQil12-20-06, 08:12 PM | @ MWB: Tactics for Blizzard sent via PM @ UserNamer: Tactics for Wildfire sent via PM |
| MindWandererB12-20-06, 08:14 PM | @ MWB: Tactics for Blizzard sent via PM @ UserNamer: Tactics for Wildfire sent via PM That must have been easy for you--your characters are practically identical, as usual, but your opponents are pretty darn similar, too. |
| MitzaVolchenko12-20-06, 08:30 PM | @Spash, I will look over our options, but frankly surrender and save for next two fights is probably the only viable option. The pairing is absurd to start with and only looks worse as I am glancing over the sheets. I'll check it again when I am in a better mood ;) @My fighters, I'll get to workonthe fight as soon as I have all tactics. It should be up by Saturday afternoon. |
| Hrothmund12-20-06, 08:33 PM | @ DSugui Tactics for Maelosh the Breaker sent |
| NiQil12-20-06, 08:34 PM | That must have been easy for you--your characters are practically identical, as usual, but your opponents are pretty darn similar, too. Actually, because the opponents are very similar to each other and to my own characters, it was very challenging to try and find a way to win. Let's just hope you are as surprised by what I came up with for Strongjaw to play with :P And yes, the characters are similar to start with, because in my time here I have found that certain things are necessities to survive in this arena. Blizzard and Wildfire have been works in progress for over a year....all of the other PCs that I build and play for a couple of weeks have been to play test things I want them to be able to excel at. Even the Horsemen were an extended study in things being applied to these two. They are intended to be my "franchise" characters, so to speak. They will diverge directions at level 6 or 7...still in the air... (Wildfire to Pyrokineticist, Blizzard to White Dragon Disciple), but until then they will be almost identical. |
| Macbrea12-20-06, 08:54 PM | Hmm, Relanex is fighting in a closet. This could be a fast and bloody fight for the young mage! @McJarvis: tactics sent.. could be first tie in CoCo history!.. :P |
| Hirumajoe12-20-06, 09:13 PM | Hmm, Relanex is fighting in a closet. This could be a fast and bloody fight for the young mage! @McJarvis: tactics sent.. could be first tie in CoCo history!.. :P Are you considering the point blank fireball of doom? :D @McJarivs: Tactics sent also... You could run it tonight! |
| Hrothmund12-20-06, 09:14 PM | @ Spasheridan Tactics for Bazili Stasha sent. |
| spasheridan12-20-06, 10:07 PM | @Mitza - Fyhir never says die! I have several thoughts on what we can do for the fight, I'll PM them to you. Never underestimate the advantage that numbers give us. In any event, we can play the fight and not use expendables if you are concerned about cost. You loose nothing by doing that - except our pitlord needs to run it. @my gladiators: please send me your tactics soon. Considering that Monday is Christmas I want to run these fights Saturday. I most likely wont have time to rerun them so please be prompt, clear, and correct. I'll try and be as accurate as I can be (unlike last weeks fights) |
| Zevox12-20-06, 11:23 PM | @ Spasheridan - Tactics for Mithos Durrol (vs Bazili Stasha) have been PMed. @ Erithmu - Will be conferring with TM as to how best to take down invisa-wizard. City map, eh, could've been better, but could've been a lot worse. @ Pitlords - Minor notation error in the pairings, Eraca (TAO's world event quester) is ECL 9, not 10. Zevox |
| UserNamer12-21-06, 01:06 AM | @UserNamer: Tactics for Gakhnalak have been sent. Received |
| UserNamer12-21-06, 01:07 AM | @ UserNamer: Tactics for Wildfire sent via PM Received |
| UserNamer12-21-06, 01:08 AM | @Macbrea: Tactics for Daniel Ocean sent. |
| rowsdower4412-21-06, 01:23 AM | Actually Anselm Falstred (rowsdower44) vs. Matthis Dar'ath II (waywreth) : TelinArtho [Arena] is a rematch of last week as well, with Telin as the Pitlord this time. :heehee This should be fun since you cant blind me this time. @TelinArtho: Tactics sent for Anselm Falstred |
| MitzaVolchenko12-21-06, 03:27 AM | Dumb question: When giving info for what someone is facing in monster fight, do they get a roll for knowledge? Or do I just take number of actual ranks in appropriate knowledge and use the makes-no-sense-to-me chart and give what it says next to the number of ranks the fighter actually has (do I use their total modifer or just ranks blah blah blah)? |
| DSugui12-21-06, 08:02 AM | Use the makes-non-sense-chart with the total modifier. @My pitlords: Tactics sent. |
| Hirumajoe12-21-06, 08:17 AM | Quick question. If you have a scroll of True Strike in one hand and a Greatsword in the other, can you still make trip attacks (of the unarmed kind since the Greatsword isn't a trip weapon, plus you're not wielding it properly) or can only monks pull that stunt off? |
| Macbrea12-21-06, 08:33 AM | In the case of Wisp, he may know. Size, Type and Discription of all creatures. Race of CR 7 or lower Arcana: Constructs, Dragons, Magical Beasts Dungeon: Aberrations, Oozes Nature: Animals, Fey, Giants, Monstrous humanoids, Plants, Vermin Psioncs: Psionic creatures Race of CR 5 or lower Local: Humanoids Religion: Undead Planes: Elementals, Outsiders Race, Subtype and Class levels of CR 2 or lower Arcana: Constructs, Dragons, Magical Beasts Dungeon: Aberrations, Oozes Nature: Animals, Fey, Giants, Monstrous humanoids, Plants, Vermin Psioncs: Psionic creatures |
| Hirumajoe12-21-06, 08:40 AM | @MWB: Tactics send for Kai Engel. |
| waywreth12-21-06, 08:44 AM | @TelinArtho - Non-blinding (hah!) tactics sent via PM for Matthis Dar'ath II (waywreth) |
| Sjiggie12-21-06, 08:46 AM | I will try to get my tactics done for Maglu & Zerth today expect them in a couple of hours. |
| Caterane12-21-06, 09:39 AM | Tactics for Uhmentarymster sent. |
| MitzaVolchenko12-21-06, 10:11 AM | @c00lz3 Your fight start is up here. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=10971021&postcount=398) You are facing one female dwarf. |
| TelinArtho12-21-06, 10:49 AM | @Hirumajoe - tactics for Farig have been sent @SauroGrenom - tactics for Jar-red have been sent EDIT - I have received tactics for the low level fight. For the high level fight - until I hear otherwise, I'll be running it - so you should still send tactics. If Iced wants to and the other players agree as well - then it is up to them to get the separate thread going. |
| SauroGrenom12-21-06, 11:00 AM | I want to let my players know about the holiday schedule. Tonight (12/21/06) I'll be driving to visit family for christmas. While up their I'll have limited email and internet access. I'll be returning the evening/aftenoon of the 26th (tuesday). I plann on runing the fight then. So you have an extended chance to submit tactics. Please make sure that there are no contradictions in the tactics. Zevox, I'm getting Eraca's World Event going now. You'll get the basic setup, and I'll ask for general tactics. I think I'll have short times with internet while at my parents house. So I can update one round at a time, and if something bad happens I'll stop and wait for your suggestion in the situation. Happy Holidays to everyone. |
| Zevox12-21-06, 11:14 AM | Quick question. If you have a scroll of True Strike in one hand and a Greatsword in the other, can you still make trip attacks (of the unarmed kind since the Greatsword isn't a trip weapon, plus you're not wielding it properly) or can only monks pull that stunt off? Only Monks can do that. Everyone else has to use their hands for unarmed stunts (else the note in the Monk descriptions about them being able to use any part of their body thats convenient wouldn't be there). Zevox |
| Maraxus12-21-06, 11:14 AM | @c00lz3 Your fight start is up here. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=10971021&postcount=398) You are facing one female dwarf. Hey, yet another? This die roller rolls lot's of 100s. Tactics for Zassl and Durin are out. |
| TelinArtho12-21-06, 11:23 AM | Only Monks can do that. Everyone else has to use their hands for unarmed stunts (else the note in the Monk descriptions about them being able to use any part of their body thats convenient wouldn't be there). Zevox Actually, if you read in the combat section under the unarmed strike section: Unarmed Attacks: Striking for damage with punches, kicks, and head butts is much like attacking with a melee weapon, except for the following |
| McJarvis12-21-06, 11:44 AM | Relanex vs Valen is up here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=10971010&postcount=397) as always, rewards to come. Sorry Mac, those were lousy damage rolls for the bolt and ball. |
| Hirumajoe12-21-06, 11:55 AM | Relanex vs Valen is up here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=10971010&postcount=397) as always, rewards to come. Sorry Mac, those were lousy damage rolls for the bolt and ball. Oh, just for future reference, the hardness 8 of psicrystals applies to fire damage. Although I'm not sure if Psicrystals take half damage from fire effects due to being an "object" or not. Having hardness apply to a construct is very confusing. And lastly, Valen hangs his head in shame. He never laid a single blow on Relanex... I think I need to change Valen's quote to "I'm just a meat shield for my horse!". |
| McJarvis12-21-06, 12:14 PM | And lastly, Valen hangs his head in shame. He never laid a single blow on Relanex... I think I need to change Valen's quote to "I'm just a meat shield for my horse!". Don't be too sad-> Valen helped flank for his horse. |
| McJarvis12-21-06, 12:27 PM | @Rith: Tactics sent for The Artificer. Time to see if I can do straight wizards at all :) |
| UserNamer12-21-06, 12:29 PM | Strongjaw vs. Wildfire done (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=10969130&postcount=395) |
| NiQil12-21-06, 12:45 PM | Strongjaw vs. Wildfire done (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=10969130&postcount=395) Please take a look at the PM I sent you regarding this fight. |
| Macbrea12-21-06, 01:03 PM | Relanex vs Valen is up Sorry Mac, those were lousy damage rolls for the bolt and ball. I figured when i was fighting an evoker in a closet that fight was going to go badly quickly. Now, I just need rewards and I can level him! |
| Hirumajoe12-21-06, 01:08 PM | Congrats on the level. The rewards should be +0.25/4 = +0.0625% in your case. (This is from Kai's Light warhorse, CR 1, and at ECL 6 you're allowed up to CR 4.) For ECL 6, this is 1,800 x 1.0625 = 1912.5 xp, round down to 1912 xp. 2,000 x 1.0625 = 2125.0 gp Plus your court connection tattooes of 185gp 6sp 4cp. Edit: Forgot to divide by three.... so 637 xp/ 708 gp 33 silver pieces, 33 copper pieces. Kai Engel should get 1,800*(1-0.0625) = 1687.5, round down to 1687 xp. 2,000*(1-0.0625) = 1875 gp. And considering that CR 1 warhorse won me the fight, I consider him worth every percent. :D |
| Abyssal Stalker12-21-06, 01:18 PM | Danidus vs Imhotep (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=10968520&postcount=394) is done. Fast and dirty. You should've taken that 3rd level of paladin... |
| UserNamer12-21-06, 01:28 PM | Sorry, but I haven't received anything, could you send it again please? Please take a look at the PM I sent you regarding this fight. |
| MindWandererB12-21-06, 01:44 PM | Actually, if you read in the combat section under the unarmed strike section: True, but unless you have IUS, you don't threaten an area with your unarmed strike. Please take a look at the PM I sent you regarding this fight.Well, although I don't know what's going on behind the scenes here, I'll make a few comments of my own. Round 4: You failed to annotate the AoO from standing in the fight. I see it in the roller, but you need to mention it. Round 5: I have no instructions to rage under these circumstances. Rage only when I have been grappled as I stated, please. Also, since Gakhnalak has been based at this time (which he should bem even though there are no maps or coordinates, which are required), it's impossible for him to trip with the guisarme. Per my tactics, you need to switch to the flail at this point. I really don't see anything for NiQil to complain about, unless he felt he should have crawled toward Gakhnalak after he was tripped, but that would have been pretty pointless. |
| TelinArtho12-21-06, 01:46 PM | @MWB - I don't think that's part of the question I was answering was it? If it was - then yes - you don't threaten an area in a situation where you hold a scroll and a greatsword and don't have IUS. |
| MindWandererB12-21-06, 01:56 PM | @MWB - I don't think that's part of the question I was answering was it? If it was - then yes - you don't threaten an area in a situation where you hold a scroll and a greatsword and don't have IUS. I wasn't correcting here, just clarifying, for the sake of the other participants in this discussion. I have tactics for both Blizzard and Kai now (as well as Krug), so I'm starting that fight now. |
| TelinArtho12-21-06, 02:09 PM | Anselm Falstred (rowsdower44) vs Matthis Dar'ath (waywreth) is up. Nothing like an archery battle between a wizard and a cleric... |
| Macbrea12-21-06, 02:11 PM | Well, we will see what effect Political career has on advancement next week! Relanex now has Automatic Packages: Court Connections +20%, Political Career +29% Relanex Thines for mayor, Vote early, Vote often! |
| NiQil12-21-06, 02:45 PM | True, but unless you have IUS, you don't threaten an area with your unarmed strike. Well, although I don't know what's going on behind the scenes here, I'll make a few comments of my own. Round 4: You failed to annotate the AoO from standing in the fight. I really don't see anything for NiQil to complain about, unless he felt he should have crawled toward Gakhnalak after he was tripped, but that would have been pretty pointless. @ UserNamer, MWB: No complaints, just a couple of minor corrections. Last time I looked, the rewards still showed Wildfire earning 900 gp/xp for the loss, instead of the correct 300 gp/xp. Also, I had asked for the rage use to be taken out of both the fight and the rewards section, because my tactics stated to only use it once in a grapple, which I never achieved, so it should not have been used. @ Hirumajoe: Do me a favor and try and keep yer characters straight....Kai Engel is fighting my Blizzard, not Relanex. Valen Sky fought Relanex. I keep reading you taking about Kai in that fight and it is confusing the heck out of me LOL |
| UserNamer12-21-06, 03:21 PM | @Niqil&MindwandererB: I think I've fixed it now. |
| NiQil12-21-06, 03:35 PM | @Niqil&MindwandererB: I think I've fixed it now. You got Wildfire's rage issue fixed, but the rewards are still wrong. Wildfire should only be earning 300 gp/xp |
| MindWandererB12-21-06, 03:37 PM | Kai Engel vs. Blizzard is up. Hmm... Blizzard's tactics look familiar. Will they work out better this time? A lot more exciting that I'd expected! |
| waywreth12-21-06, 03:48 PM | Anselm Falstred (rowsdower44) vs Matthis Dar'ath (waywreth) is up. Nothing like an archery battle between a wizard and a cleric... For some reason that was one of the more entertaining fights I've read in awhile. Thanks for the run. And you're entirely correct on the number of bolts, I forgot to buy them after my last 3FC, so I was stuck with the few I had. That will be rectified shortly. :D Edit: And it doesn't matter, but I did want to mention that the DC on the save of Touch of Fatigue was 17 due to Matthis's feats, so in round 9 Anselm failed that save. |
| NiQil12-21-06, 03:50 PM | Kai Engel vs. Blizzard is up. Hmm... Blizzard's tactics look familiar. Will they work out better this time? A lot more exciting that I'd expected! Yeah....once I wrote these, I took a look at Strongjaw and figured they would work just as well as anything else I could come up with....so I just cut and pasted the tactics to Wildfire LOL. I'm actually surprised they worked here. Thanks for the run. I do find it somewhat amusing that, with the exception of skills, Blizzard and Wildfire are identical right now, but Blizzard is now 2-0 and Wildfire is 0-2....shows you how much the luck of the draw and the dice gods really play into it. |
| TheMagister12-21-06, 05:13 PM | @Erithmu - Hood tactics sent to Zevox for perusal and integration. He'll forward them to you. Any corrections or updates he makes should be considered as if they came from me. I trust him. {TM checks in next week: "Hood takes off his clothes and runs screaming down the street...?!!" "What the?!"} @Zevox - don't do that. :D Sdentch's tactics sent. Let's see what the old girl can do now that Daddy bought her a face lift with some Training Hall credits. :fight!: I'm off to work on GAPs! TM |
| TelinArtho12-21-06, 05:29 PM | Sdentch's tactics sent. Let's see what the old girl can do now that Daddy bought her a face lift with some Training Hall credits. Good luck! I'm hoping it turns into an "epic" battle and isn't over in just a couple of quick die rolls (but not so epic that Zevox vows to never deal with summoners again...) |
| Hirumajoe12-21-06, 06:31 PM | @ Hirumajoe: Do me a favor and try and keep yer characters straight....Kai Engel is fighting my Blizzard, not Relanex. Valen Sky fought Relanex. I keep reading you taking about Kai in that fight and it is confusing the heck out of me LOL Woops... Now you know why I was only running one character for so long. :-) And unfortunately, in my mind they really are just two manifestations of the same character, just going about it in two different ways. Which makes it way too easy to confuse. I mean, I sent Spasheridan tactics for Kai Engel last week... Except I labeled it Valen Sky. He had to ask me if I sent it to the wrong pitlord. Sigh. Hopefully once Kai starts having his own independant history and personality I'll start keeping them apart better. RPing with the guilds will probably help. |
| Hirumajoe12-21-06, 06:35 PM | Kai Engel vs. Blizzard is up. Hmm... Blizzard's tactics look familiar. Will they work out better this time? A lot more exciting that I'd expected! Thanks for the run! You're right in your comments, I really should of included a contingency for being grappled. Although, I'm not sure breaking out of the grapple woud have stastically been much better. Hrmm... Things to ponder. And I still need to work out the optimum buff sequence. I did enlarge person first, to get the 1 round casting spell out of the way early so I'd be more free to move later in the round. Hmm... Maybe Enlarge 1st, Expeditious 2nd, Mage 3rd, Shield 4th? |
| spasheridan12-21-06, 06:55 PM | You should be able to write a scroll with all of those spells on it - that way you don't have to waste actions drawing /dropping the scroll. That should help a bunch |
| Hirumajoe12-21-06, 07:10 PM | You should be able to write a scroll with all of those spells on it - that way you don't have to waste actions drawing /dropping the scroll. That should help a bunch You know, I obviously don't play enough mages.... And you're *absolutely* correct. Is there a limit of the number and types of spells you can put on a scroll? Otherwise after this 3FC is over, Kai has some scribing to do... |
| Sjiggie12-21-06, 07:39 PM | @McJarvis: Tactics Maglu sent. @spasheridan: Tactics Zerth sent. If the are issues I only have tommorow to reply and from saturday I will be on vacation and don't have Internet. |
| NiQil12-21-06, 07:39 PM | You know, I obviously don't play enough mages.... And you're *absolutely* correct. Is there a limit of the number and types of spells you can put on a scroll? Otherwise after this 3FC is over, Kai has some scribing to do... And the Court Decisions strike again....you guys should really starting looking there more often... Q: How many spells/powers may I have on a single scroll/powerstone? A: Though the RAW does not state a specific amount in the description of scrolls or powerstones, the random generation table for both scrolls and powerstones specifies 6 as the maximum number. Therefore, this number is used. |
| McJarvis12-22-06, 12:32 AM | And the Court Decisions strike again....you guys should really starting looking there more often... I'm telling you, they aren't linked good enough. I would _expect_ them to be linked in the Oracle(where decisions are made) rather than the prison Where would you suggest they be linked? They are in the prison because that is where rulings were made before the Oracle thread ever came into being. They get put into the first post of every FotW thread as well as being listed in the Rules thread and in the Prison. They are linked in the Prisonlord signature as well. Heck....there may not be many more pages that have that many links to them. And they *were going to be moved over to the Oracle thread, but before Cat could post with the Prisonlords name in there to reserve space for them, *someone started posting in there......:P |

That's what tripped me up on trying to find them back in the day...(that and I often confused them with the meta-rules of gladius) edit-> In addition, while the court decisions dealy is linked from the meta-rules, it is not linked from the main rules post(as far as I can tell) |

| Guildmaster (WAR)12-22-06, 12:10 PM | @Zevox, TM: Team tactics? Odd. I sent Hood's to Zevox. You should be getting them soon (I don't know exactly WHEN, but Zevox is reliable). Sorry for the delay. |

| MitzaVolchenko12-22-06, 05:17 PM | You're quite right, but Cat evidently didn't notice the way I had set it up until now, and he vetoed it on the reasonable grounds that the questlord might be biased toward the questers. Right. You realize that anyone running any fght in the World event might be biased one way or another? And that by making this an arena fight outside of quest thread I don't even get any story whatsoever out of the event because 2ECL8 36pt buy characters is not an EL 10 event no matter how much CoCo continues to claim that it is? Telin is not a member of EHTC, but he is a twiceover member of TLT whose characters are intercepting Indivara. I am not accusing him of bias. I am asking that I get a story to go with my loss. One word for ya: Broken. Doesn't matter at this point...tactics sent. Maybe the dice gods will favor me, maybe not. |
| MindWandererB12-22-06, 06:29 PM | <sigh> For the story bit, I completely agree. That's why I wanted it the other way, originally. And you're also right about the bias--most of us are in multiple guilds. However, as for the fairness, I completely disagree. I've actually seen more fights where the higher-ECL character is the better bet to win such a fight. In fact, I notice that you're in both positions this week--you have one ECL 5 character in a team against an ECL 7, and one ECL 10 character against a team of ECL 8's, and you seem to think both situations are equally unfair against you. I don't mean to be offensive, but I don't follow that logic. =-=-=-=-= In other news, Legion (Spasheridan) vs Krug Butcher (DSugui): MindWandererB [ECL6, Cavern] is up. Another one that really came down to the wire. |
| spasheridan12-22-06, 06:48 PM | My other though for tactics had been to hand the potion of invis to Thalia, then manifest an extended Matter Agitation on Krug. After he started to burn I would have had Thalia pour the potion of invis down my throat and I would move to the center of the arena while Krug burned and Thalia ran away. I figured it would have been a boring fight that way - so I went for the more direct approach. I really thought Krug would take me down, the cavern being so small that hiding is impossible. Trading Thalia for the win seems fair. Thanks for the run! If you have any desire to edit the fight though - Legion doesn't care for his thralls. They're just tools to him, meat puppets that dance to his whims, not friends to care about. SO - he wouldn't bellow in rage for his friends death, but rather at his annoyance that he would have to do his own laundry tonight. Does that make him Evil? Just a little RP perspective on him. |

I don't mean to be offensive, but I don't follow that logic. You're right...irrational woman over here. I don't agree with interleague fights. I don't care if it is my advantage or theirs. An ECL5 is designed to fight ECL5's. An ECL10 is designed to fight an ECL10. FFA's create multiple losses and imblance the fight record (finally changed for low levels). Interleague fights are almost always horridly in favor of one character or the other. Would I go for a one on one fight against someone a level or two higher than myself? maybe...in a paid challenge...because I want to see who would win...I'd even pay the credits for both challengers if I were that interested in testing out the match. As a weekly occurence? No. As a two in one week occurence? STBM. The goal of the board is character optimization. That means matching your build against same level builds in my mind. Who wins is determined by who built better with a wee dram of luck thrown in. |
| Zevox12-22-06, 07:16 PM | Nanasi Seaslash vs Sabra Marana is up. A bit dry on commentary since I accidentally killed the first draft (still getting used to Firefox and its tabs in the same window after downloading it a few days ago), but there ya go. Zevox |
| Etiquette_Gnome12-22-06, 10:52 PM | In response to Zevok's comments; I'm not really minding Sabra's situation right now and didn't actually plan on winning that fight (so a pleasant surprise all around), as this build is an experiment for the long term. I was dang lucky by not getting hit at all. It does seem a shame that Charm Person can't be used to end a fight, since spells like Sleep certainly can. Heck, Charm gives a bonus to the victim's save while Sleep doesn't. But, I wasn't really planning on that being a mainstay for fights anyway and should still be handy for future team battles. I would like to point out that you forgot to include the 20% bonus to Sabra's XP & GP for that fight due to Political Connections, making it 1080 for both. It might need to be mentioned in the rules somewhere that using the Tower Shield costs a standard action, as it's not actually stated in the SRD or the Core Books. I know this, but my last fight with Ynotar ended up where the fight runner gave him double move actions while under total cover, so I had assumed the ruling wasn't accepted as core; making use of the tower shield only prevent attacks while gaining total cover. So either way, that discrepancy should be noted in the house rule section, since it seems obvious not everyone runs tower shields the same way (you have them cost a standard action, another allowed double-move actions...) |
| Zevox12-23-06, 12:37 AM | I would like to point out that you forgot to include the 20% bonus to Sabra's XP & GP for that fight due to Political Connections, making it 1080 for both. I'll add it in, but please make a note about this somewhere near the top of his sheet. Technically the rules say you need to do both that and link the rules post with the package, so he really shouldn't get it here, but I don't see any need to be that stubborn about it, particularly with a relatively new character. Wait, its not stated that way? *checks* Hm, you're right - odd. I'd always thought it was a standard action, but it just says give up attacks. But then, what kind of action is it? Oh boy, I have the bad feeling we just stumbled on a whole barrel of worms... Zevox |
| Etiquette_Gnome12-23-06, 12:48 AM | I had already placed mention of the bonus thing in my pre-fight actions along with a link to the rule when I made Sabra two weeks ago. Though if I need to place it higher, I can. And yeah, I know there can be a bit of a hassle when dealing with the tower shield, and figured it was already dealt with. I can't remember the exact reference, but I do recall there being a Sage answer stating that the way to handle the tower shield was to have it cost a standard action to gain cover. |
| Maraxus12-23-06, 03:31 AM | Okay, tactics received. ... Are the deadlines effected by chrismas somehow, btw, or will the next fighting week be 27th as usually? |
| Hirumajoe12-23-06, 07:52 AM | @Maraxus: Given that I've been told by Cat that Kai Engel (and yes I mean the ECL 3 Fighter/Wizard) is going on a MQ for CEF starting Dec 27th, I would assume everything proceeds as normal, except possibly for a shortage of pitlords. |
| Zevox12-23-06, 02:05 PM | @ Erithmu - Tactics for Hood & Featylec PMed. Since I didn't get a reply from TM, I just made up something myself. Sorry again about the delay. Zevox |
| spasheridan12-24-06, 02:28 AM | The Masked Man vs Zerth is up HERE Zerth attempted to grapple and killed himself with the AoO's he incurred. Those 20's with the Scythe didn't hurt though... I'll make the rewards section look better tomorrow. EDIT - I forgot the biofeedback, looks like I need to roll some more dice |

I'll have to remember that one (both as an option for Eraca and Mithos and as something for Featylec to find some sort of counter to). Oh well, pretty much as expected otherwise. Thanks for the run :) . Zevox I'm not positive, but Mind Blank may prevent any form of divination detection. And Arcane sight is definitely a divination spell. Also, simply staying farther away than 120' also works. And finally, this last is a question: But does Arcane sight actually defeat hiding? I know True Sight does not. I mean, as far as I know with the core rules, a person can be carrying a torch, which provides illumination and still be hiding. Faerie fire doesn't prevent hiding (which makes your character glow). It might localize you down to a few squares, but you still would need an Area of Effect spell. Although Arcane sight's effect doesn't produce any illumination. Also, you should be able to use a *very* large non-magical cloak and cover everything. Arcane sight doesn't provide x-ray vision. Although once you attack your magic weapon will be in LOS. Although it might be amusing to tie a magic item or two onto your psicrystal/familiar/ other pet that can hide and have it run around hiding and pretending to be you. Especially a Psicrystal since it has improved Evasion, Hardness and is a construct, making it immune to a ton of spells. |
| Zevox12-25-06, 04:38 PM | I'm not positive, but Mind Blank may prevent any form of divination detection. And Arcane sight is definitely a divination spell. Which would be fine and good, except that Featylec doesn't use magic outside of items, and I'm pretty sure theres none that let one use that spell. Also, simply staying farther away than 120' also works. Not really, since its not hard to move faster than a sneak-type. In this case, Uhme's fly spell easily does it. Mounts do so even more easily, etc. And on a number of maps thats a tall order to begin with (hell, except the plains and maybe arena, its all but impossible). And finally, this last is a question: But does Arcane sight actually defeat hiding? Looking at it, yep, I can't see any way to come to any other conclusion. This spell makes your eyes glow blue and allows you to see magical auras within 120 feet of you. The effect is similar to that of a detect magic spell, but arcane sight does not require concentration and discerns aura location and power more quickly. You know the location and power of all magical auras within your sight. The two bolded phrases are key to me. Its obvious that detect magic doesn't require you to spot the things its detecting for it to work from its spell description, and it doesn't seem as though the phrase "within your sight" equates to a successful spot check so much as to simply being able to draw a line of sight to it. Which together tell me theres no real grounds for it meaning anything but that you automatically see any magical auras without total cover (aka line-of-sight negated) within your 120' field of vision. Misdirection effectively counters it, if I'm not mistaken... Probably true (it works like detect magic, and thats one of the spells misdirection fools). And that one comes in potion form, so Featylec could get it. Not quite sure how that'd work (does he need one for every magical item on him, or will one targeting him work for his items too?), but its a thought. Zevox |
| Caterane12-25-06, 05:47 PM | Detect Magic does not require LOS nor does Arcane Sight. It even works through materials. Isolating single words from the context is something we should avoid. |
| McJarvis12-25-06, 06:41 PM | Detect Magic does not require LOS nor does Arcane Sight. It even works through materials. Isolating single words from the context is something we should avoid. Actually, Detect Magic is an emanation type(not spread), so it DOES require line of effect to work(and can not work through materials) edit- Also, via our rules regarding Energy Ball not affecting attended objects, Detect Magic/Arcane sight shouldn't work on attended magical objects. :-) |
| SauroGrenom12-25-06, 06:44 PM | I have some sad news to share. This weekend my grandfather passed away. It wasn't unexpceted, he had been sick for a long time with cancer. A couple days ago, he was no longer able to take fluids, so it was only a matter of time. Right now I'm at my parent's house, and we have lots of family from out of town and various preparations going on right now. This is going to be a chaotic time right now. My time that I can be on the internet is very limited. I cannot be certian I will be able to fulfill all my duties this week. I have an hour or two now, and I'll work on the TAO world event now. I think I can get the PSI guildmaster job done as well. But running this 3 member interleague battle that I'm pitlording will require a block of time that I cannot be sure I will have. I ask that someone who has the time over the next few days would pick up this battle. I'd realy appreciate it. THe tactics are below: Jar-red's tactics vs Zwei and Fyhir In the forest? Well, things could be better, but I guess I can manage without my charging... Start off on the path with a potion of Mage Armor and my bow. In the first round - drink it and start heading to the clockwise direction. Move quickly along the path until I can find either opponent. If I find Zwei first or if I find Fyhir and he hasn't climbed up a tree - move into the underbrush and change to animal form. If I find Fyhir first and he has climbed up a tree, just fire arrows at him. Do not bother firing arrows at Zwei. If I come to a river crossing - jump over it. My jump check even in hybrid form is high enough to auto-succeed in jumping over as long as I have a running start. If I can't get a running start, just make balance checks to get across. (I just noticed I am missing my balance skill in my skills section - it is +3 (human)/+5 (hybrid or animal). I've posted a violation to make sure it gets added. If I find Zwei first and have already changed into animal form - and later need to climb - that's fine with me. Once up in the canopy, try to get into a grapple with my opponent and then move the grapple out of the canopy (yes - I want to fall...). Once on the ground, break the grapple and full attack when I can. At the start of battle, declare my dodge versus Fyhir. Once I am engaged in combat - use my dodge bonus against the one who is in melee with me. If both are in melee, use dodge against Fyhir. If Zwei tries to get into a grapple with me (not likely, but I guess it could happen), just try to break the grapple if Fyhir is in melee with us, otherwise, try to deal damage. That's pretty much it. If I am having trouble finding my opponents, I do have scent to help me pinpoint and my listen and spot checks are decent - so I'm hoping that won't be the case. Any questions - just let me know. Zwei and Fyhir start together Zwei at open inner corner of box with tanglefoot bag in hand, Fyhir a few feet behind her. Fyhir has 2 silver arrows in 1 hand and a potion of invisibility in the other. Fyhir’s 1st action is to give the arrows to Zwei. Goals: Get a round or 3 of silver arrows into Jarhead. Force him to engage Zwei's full defensive AC. Stop him from charging. Hopefully get him entangled. Get Fyhir flanking attacks. Buffs: Fyhir: Drink Potion of Invis, Manifest Force Screen, Biofeedback, Offensive Pre-cog. Draw bow & potion protection from chaos potion while manifesting. Zwei: Tap Inertial Armor, Jarhead is dodge buddy, tap tattoo of Force Screen on enemy detection. Fyhir remains invisible until an opportune time to attack. Fyhir moves around and keeps LOS on Zwei. When Fyhir spots Jarhead he drinks the potion of Protection from Chaos. Fyhir would like to pepper Jarhead with some arrows, so he would like to be planted in some undergrowth so he cannot be charged – remember, since the trees slow movement he cannot charge flying. Note that delay does not apply to Fyhir as long as Zwei is visible and actively seeking Jarhead. She has no advantage in stealth here, so just call insults at the top of her lungs while she seeks him. Once she is on good ground for charge prevention ie. by the stream or in the corner of one of the road bends, ready to throw tanglefoot bag. The ambush location should have a decent LOS distance so Fyhir can get a shot or 2 off before he can be engaged. Once engaged, Zwei will fight defensively. Zwei will tumble away 5’ after taking each attack so Fyhir can shoot arrows without a melee penalty. When we finally get all of us into a nice three way flanking melee, attack with 2 silver arrows, 2-weapon fighting w/improvised weapons and fighting defensive (what do penalties mean when youa re already rolling for 20's?). If Jarhead is attacking Fyhir, drop fighting defensive and try for a stunning fist on him. You can do that twice, then go back to the full penalty 20-seeking hits. When Fyhir is engaged in Melee he will drop the bow and draw his greataxe. Make every attack a psionic weapon attack. Each round he will spend a move action to try and refocus, and he will make concentration checks (dc15) to refocus defensively. Remember I have my psi-crystals focus that I can spend if I need to. If he fails to shift, just take him apart – no silver arrow attacks for Zwei, Fyhir will advance and attack with melee for his 1st attack instead of shooting his silver arrows. Fyhir wont drink the potion of Prot from Chaos if Jarhead is in human form. More or less this is not a good match for us. He has clear superiority in all categories except AC. We have to make him roll for 20's and then do the same for ourselves. Please observe the INT scores on the character sheets. If tactics break down, pretend that the characters ar smart enough to improvise. I unfortunatley trusted TM's numbers on Zwei's attack block. All unarmed dmg's are 1d8+2 Thanks for running the fight, hopefully these tactics are clear and not as headache full as many forest fights can be. Happy holidays! If any parts of these tactics are not clear please let us both know so we can elaborate. |
| Caterane12-25-06, 07:18 PM | @McJarvis: The spell can penetrate barriers, but 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or 3 feet of wood or dirt blocks it. |
| McJarvis12-25-06, 07:45 PM | That would be my bad then...I'm not at my home computer(where I have my books next to & SRD saved on) & was working off memory :) |

My sincere condolences. I was planning to run my own fight tomorrow morning since I have it off. I can pick this one up, though I don't guarantee to have it done by the Tuesday deadline, but I should have it done sometime Tuesday. So don't worry about the fight. |
| Hirumajoe12-25-06, 08:37 PM | The spell can penetrate barriers, but 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or 3 feet of wood or dirt blocks it. Good point. Soo... How much does a lead lined cloak cost and weigh? :D (I know, I know, no core rules regarding it, so you probably can't do it.) I guess misdirection, mind blank, non-detection, Anti-magic field and similar spells are the only way to avoid it. Or not use magic items what so ever. (Haha, yeah right...) Or to present multiple targets. Edit: Actually dumb question, while it localizes the exact square, does it do anything else? So if the character where invisible from the spell or similar effect, would you still have a 50% miss chance? I seem to remember a ruling on Detect magic like that. Ah, found it: Invisibility does not foil detection spells. A detect spell doesn't make an invisible creature or object visible, but if an unseen subject is in the area where the spell is aimed, the spell can give some hint of the unseen subject's presence. For example, a detect magic spell reveals the presence or absence of magical auras in the area where it is aimed. An invisible creature using an invisibility spell or magic item has a magical aura (thanks to the active spell or magic item) and a detect magic spell aimed into its area will reveal that aura. All the spell user knows, however, is that there is magic present somewhere within the area where the spell is aimed. If the detect magic user scans that same area for 3 consecutive rounds, the spell can reveal the location of the invisible magical aura (if the creature is still in area). The spell doesn't reveal anything else about the creature, or even that it is a creature at all. The spell user could aim an attack at the creature's location and have a chance to hit it (see Part Two). Would a similar thing apply to a character using hide? You know the square, but still suffer a 50% miss chance and so forth because you can't see them? Similar to how a listen check can pinpoint a square, but still doesn't count as seeing them? |
| McJarvis12-25-06, 09:34 PM | Would a similar thing apply to a character using hide? You know the square, but still suffer a 50% miss chance and so forth because you can't see them? Similar to how a listen check can pinpoint a square, but still doesn't count as seeing them? That is my understanding of it. Though honestly, our house-rule of "attended items count as the person" rules make misdirection a good-enough counter to things like arcane sight.(though not perfect-> Arcane sight still narrows down where you are quite a bit.) |

Sounds good. Looking at the above, since Arcane Sight doesn't require LOS, it locates the squares where people with magic items are standing within the effect of a blacklight are, correct? I'm going to have to get Kai Engel spell once he levels up... |

| McJarvis12-25-06, 10:40 PM | Gorgox vs The Artificer is up. Apparently The Artificer hasn't met Denshi, but that is neither here nor there. Denshi? Thanks for running the fight. I always get so nervous when my characters make their first flight.... edit-> Just found Denshi....I see. Glad to see I have someone to look up to as I level up B-) edit #2-> Didn't catch this the first time through-> Art didn't have to take an AoO when he levitated. He could have 5' stepped and then spent the move action to move himself upward. Levitate is funny in that the 20' movement is actually a result of the spell moving him, not him taking a movement. For example: If I cast it on an object & moved the object upwards I could easily still take a 5' step that round. Thus this fight wasn't as close as it appears :) |
| nightbanegod12-25-06, 11:07 PM | Gorgox vs The Artificer is up. Apparently The Artificer hasn't met Denshi, but that is neither here nor there. my only issue with that was the no going to the center of the arena and using smoke stick to try and make him get closer... but hey no biggie it ended up pretty much like i figured. i still cant believe you put deflect arrows on a friggen wizard....ohh and by the way... Gorgox double moves (MS vs Listen: -3 vs -1) No comment absolutely f***ing hilarious now that this is the end of my 3 fight cycle ... what does that entitle me to? |
| Erithmu12-25-06, 11:17 PM | Notice the lack of MS and Listen checks after that round ... now that this is the end of my 3 fight cycle ... what does that entitle me to? Shopping Spree!!! Well you can buy stuff, or just go right back in. If you were a spell caster you would re-memorize spells, You might think ahead to what gear your going to need 'if' you level up in the process of your next cycle, and want something specific. |

In round 4, Whirlwind should be getting a ride check to avoid the critical (just the confirmation). Same thing in round 6 on Finael's attack. This probably means Whirlwind is still standing. In round 5, after Rex is tripped, his AC is 16, but Farig and Whirlwind attack with a +4 versus the prone combatant. As such, Rex is hit by another hoof that round and dies. Not a big deal since Rex died on the following attack anyway - but figured I'd mention it. In round 7, per my tactics, Finael should have been attacked rather than disarmed. In round 10, I don't see my 2nd attack on Finael (which should be a regular attack rather than for disarm as well). During the course of the battle, there's a couple of modifiers that I'm not sure I understand. However, as I recalculated them, I didn't see anything that would've changed as a result. Given that Whirlwind is likely still standing, I would like these edits put in. (If Whirlwind is not standing after round 6 - don't bother going further - because it won't make enough of a difference) |

I don't feel that you in any way followed the spirit of my tactics. Which was make them hunt me, stay at range, isolate, damage, heal as needed. Always come up with cover when available. Seems pretty clear that I don't want to have a stand up fight with them. This is the last time I am going to object to not geting a seperate thread run for something that is inherently part of the quest. |
| Maraxus12-26-06, 02:24 PM | Changes in the Daisy vs. Anixx fight have been made. No more trip the wingless flyer and when I was at it, I also spotted another mistake I made the first time (confused Daisy's pets' armor classes). ... Which was make them hunt me, stay at range, isolate, damage, heal as needed. The moving along the ground was merely a device to speed things up. While it wasn't mentioned in your tactics, the fact of the matter is that you wanted to close enough to be in range for your breath weapon. Whether I take 1 round or 4 rounds to do that is immaterial. Since you moved underground and moved from there - they did not know your location, which serves your tactics well. As to making listen checks, I already agreed that I made mistake with the blindsense. I will look into the fight accordingly, but exactly how do you expect to locate your opponents for a breath weapon, while still hiding behind cover and still being within range for your breath weapon? Oh and still avoiding charges from an opponent you likely won't be able to hear at all? (+8 listen minus distance versus +20 move silently) [EDIT] Okay - you fail your listen checks in round 2. You relocate to 25,44 (behind cover from where you last knew your opponents to be), pop out and still breathe on Loddick. However, Besthirah still can easily reach you with a charge - so the point is moot. |

I understand that you might not want to run a delay fight, but that was my full intention. Delay until I can get favorable ground-distances. Once above ground listen loses a good portion of its penalty, as well. I am mapping the fight so that I can see exactly what did occur. |

Once above ground listen loses a good portion of its penalty, as well. I am mapping the fight so that I can see exactly what did occur. Well, if you examine their tactics you'll see that they wanted to stay precisely close enough so that they could not be both hit by a breath attack at the same time - but no further apart than that. Note as well the edit I put in my post above. |

That said - I have run a few fights were one opponent or the other spent the time to take off said armor... Thanks...and I think I just have to follow Ynotar's tactics on that. Oh well. Re: Indi's fight She can't fly like that and then burrow in round 1. She is either moving at her turtle's speed burrow or flying, not both. Also had they stayed further apart, and the movement been a wee bit different, she does not end up on open charging ground to be grappled. I would at least like to see the movement corrected. If she stays at 40' range, and the grappler can't charge, she maintains mobility as they use double move to get to her. When editing movement, remember that she can 5' step into the ground. |
| TelinArtho12-26-06, 03:26 PM | There's nothing in the rules that says you can't change movement modes during your actions - I believe this is even covered in an example in the FAQ. In round 1, she moved 100ft flying on one move action and 20ft burrowing in the second move action. I'll look it up to be sure though. As to 5ft stepping into the ground - that is possible if you didn't already move in the round in question - which you did - so that point is moot. As to nit-picking movement - there's nothing to be done about that. As a pitlord I have to make decisions about movement according to the information your character knows. She wants to breathe on her opponents and try to stay behind cover. In round 4, she pops up in a place that fits that condition, but does not negate the possibility of a charge from her opponent. And just to let you know that this equation hasn't already been thought about in my mind - let's consider the possible locations that Indivara can pop up within 40ft of a random opponent and be out of range of a charge from Besthirah given the condition that Loddick and Besthirah will be taking single move actions each round, Besthirah has a movement of 30ft (so can charge 60ft) and has reach of 10ft and Loddick is the only target likely to be heard in a given round and Indivara has cover. And don't forget that Indivara still has to hear Loddick. In the event that Indivara actually hears Besthirah and gets her in range instead - the game's over anyway. |
| Hirumajoe12-26-06, 04:10 PM | In round 4, Whirlwind should be getting a ride check to avoid the critical (just the confirmation). Same thing in round 6 on Finael's attack. This probably means Whirlwind is still standing. Sorry for being ignorant, but which use of the ride skill allows this? I'm familiar with the Mounted Combat feat, which Farig doesn't have, which allows the avoidance of an attack with a ride check, but what allows the avoidance of the critical confirmation? Or am I misunderstanding? In round 5, after Rex is tripped, his AC is 16, but Farig and Whirlwind attack with a +4 versus the prone combatant. As such, Rex is hit by another hoof that round and dies. Not a big deal since Rex died on the following attack anyway - but figured I'd mention it. I thought a prone opponent has a -4 to AC in melee in combat. You don't get +4 to hit a prone target since its a disadvantage. Woops! On re-reading, I just realized Rex's base AC is 16, *not* 20 like Puppy's. My bad. So his AC should be 12. Same difference. So you should hit. In round 7, per my tactics, Finael should have been attacked rather than disarmed. In round 10, I don't see my 2nd attack on Finael (which should be a regular attack rather than for disarm as well). Upon re-reading, you are correct. During the course of the battle, there's a couple of modifiers that I'm not sure I understand. However, as I recalculated them, I didn't see anything that would've changed as a result. Its possible I made a mistake on some of those. If some of them are in regards to the disarm calculation you stated in your tactics, you don't actually gain any bonus for him being prone, althoug he does take a -4 penalty for being prone. Given that Whirlwind is likely still standing, I would like these edits put in. (If Whirlwind is not standing after round 6 - don't bother going further - because it won't make enough of a difference) Nod. As soon as I understand the ride check for round 4 I'll begin editing. |
| TelinArtho12-26-06, 04:15 PM | Yeah... I forgot that she doesn't have the Mounted Combat feat. Nevermind then... I'll happily chalk this one up to being screwed by the dice... |
| Hirumajoe12-26-06, 04:18 PM | Yeah... I forgot that she doesn't have the Mounted Combat feat. Nevermind then... I'll happily chalk this one up to being screwed by the dice... Ah, ok. Thanks for looking the fight over anyways. @All: While I said I'd take Sauro's fight, it looks like I may not be able to run it until tomorrow morning, which may be cutting it close to the deadline. (Being invited over to my brother's and so forth tonight). If anyone else wants to jump on it, feel free. Otherwise I'll get to it tomorrow morning (7 am EST most likely). |
| Zevox12-26-06, 05:36 PM | Kraegin challenges Sdentch is finally up. My apologies for running so late with it - would've been up sunday, but I accidentally killed the tab I was editing it in an hour before my family's Christmas Eve party. Zevox |
| TelinArtho12-26-06, 05:48 PM | Using a magic item is a standard action that does not provoke - so Sdentch does not draw an AoO in round 11, but she also won't be able to attack in that situation. In the same round, Kraegin's dispel magic is not stopped by the ring of counterspells, since that was used in week 1 of Sdentch's activities. Also, just as a note about the poison - you should have still tracked what poisoned her and when, since if I had dispelled the delay poison, it would have all taken into effect immediately. As to over-thinking it - I was a little concerned that Sdentch would be able to take down the huge centipedes too quickly or that I would get screwed on the 1d3 rolls for them (very different battle if I only get 2-3...). An enlarged Sdentch versus Barbazu wouldn't have been a big deal unless I got the luck I had in the quest I ran with her in it... As a last note, most of it was "role-playing" anyway. If I was in the business of making it a quick and dirty fight - the hold person would have been more than enough I suspect... Obviously, since this only steers things in my direction, I don't need it edited on my account (only if TM wants to edit it). |

Your call to edit and obey the tactics' spirit or not. There are a lot of rolls missing in there...in the case of a delaying action, Indi has the edge. Failed rolls are just as good for me as they are bad in some ways. Either way, thanks for at least looking at it again. |

Also, I should've been attempting to grapple after the initial attack with the guisarme, as explicitly stated in my tactics. *sighs* I'll edit on the grapple if I have time. Holding a bow, you don't take AoO's. I would have to check to see if an arching monk gets them, however, Durin can stop 5' short and create the same effect, which is to say, stay close enough to keep forcing you to move while skate runs out. My apologies, but by the time I got rolling after trying to sort out what to do about your armor quandry, I was clearly no longer reading tactics line by line. If you check my profile, you'll see a few things that make it simpler for me as a pit lord ;) |

| MitzaVolchenko12-27-06, 03:05 AM | @Mitza - burrowing was not your best option here in my opinion, but it seems to me that you felt defeated before you even began. I would also suggest being more specific about preferred targets for your breath weapon and for engaging multiple opponents. Your grapple check should be listed as +5, as +9 is only applicable versus small creatures. You should also include a full breakdown of the racial abilities of the dragon, including the specifics to the blue dragon (which is inconspicuously mentioned...) The grapple modifier for med is next to the +9, plain as day. The abilities of the blue dragon are listed in their appropriate places. Unless there is something else you thought needed adding? Most of it is general to dragons and listed with complete descriptor under racial abilities. The only exception I can think of is that you might feel I need to point out that the extra LA allows her clerical access...of course if it didn't that wand of CLW would be pretty, pointless, wouldn't it? I felt that don't flap around and make a target of yourself, and if detecting a solo enemy attack was pretty darned accurate. You chose to betrayher location and runthe fight as you chose. The tactics were deliberatley general, but the notations such as burrow were pretty darned explicit. I have requested consideration of my points. The choice is yours. Since I had to take them both down, one target was as good as another. You are correct that I felt that she was defeated or only had a slim chance from the start. Two ECL 8 36 pt buy characters is not ECL 10. I don't care how often people say that EL=LA=CR=ECL. It doesn't. I feel that since you knew I felt it was a losing battle, you simply took a short cut to avoid the several rounds of 20' movement. Now the rolls, you are blameless for. Nothing to be done about that. However when failing listen checks the continue burrowing/seeking applies. *sighs* Done with the argument. |
| DSugui12-27-06, 08:03 AM | Dudael vs Zassl (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=11010046&postcount=420) is up.I have some issues in this fight: - Why didn't Lithania CdG Bubba in round 6? - Why didn't Dudael cast Silence on Zassl? - Why did Dudael go for the crossbow if he had lots of spells to cast and Lithania was still up? I don't understand why my tactics weren't followed. If you can edit the fight and take this issues in conisderation I would appreciate. |
| Maraxus12-27-06, 08:33 AM | About Zassl's fight: Right, there is quite a bit to do, still. I fear, should this get fixed, Bubba will not survive (Except for some luck, CDG DCs are 10+damage dealt what is not too much at Str 9...) On my plus side, the Ray on Dudael brought him down to Str 2, which at a load of 22.5 lbs is enough to overload him. - However being overloaded does not mean helpless. It allows sneak attacks (The reason behind my tactic) and prevents normal movement, but does not allow CDGs. ...Oh, or did you make him prone because of Str 0? ... Hm, I would not do this alike, because ray of enfeeblement gives a penalty that leaves the target at Str1 minimum ... I am not sure, what happens, if you later get strength reduction that does not have this clause (like Exhausion). Is the penatly retroactive reduced or does this bring the victim down to 0? If you have made this consideration and came to the later I gladly accept it. ;) PS: Where is my pre-buffed false life? |

| Abyssal Stalker12-27-06, 09:01 AM | Oh, well... I asked to improvise if something goes terribly wrong - and this seems like that case. Nothing too specific, though. One thing, I'd like to say is that I had no idea of the map we were fighting. If I would've known it was going to be the temple and that I don't have time to prebuff, my tactics probably would've been different. I know you were busy, but next time I'd suggest to give at least a rough description of the situation at hand. (For example; when assigned to a monter fight, we at least know where the fight takes place) |
| TelinArtho12-27-06, 09:43 AM | Racial and Class Abilities Immunities (Ex): All dragons have immunity to sleep and paralysis effects. Each variety of dragon has immunity to one or two additional forms of attack no matter what its age, as given in its description. Blindsense (Ex): Dragons can pinpoint creatures within a distance of 60 feet. Opponents the dragon can’t actually see still have total concealment against the dragon. Keen Senses (Ex): A dragon sees four times as well as a human in shadowy illumination and twice as well in normal light. It also has darkvision out to 120 feet. This is what I am looking for: Immunities (Ex): All dragons have immunity to sleep and paralysis effects. Blue Dragons are also immune to electricity. Also - a simple Blue Dragon at the top of the sheet would go miles above what you've got. The only thing that accurately points to the type of dragon on the entire sheet was Indi's breath weapon - even the picture to me wasn't clear between a young white dragon (which is often blueish in the lighting of water/ice) and a blue. If the picture wasn't loading for some reason on a particular day - I'd have to be looking for a pretty obscure line... ------------------------- All that aside, for the fight - I don't see how prolonging it is going to make a difference. If you spend 4 rounds to get to the same location, they are still going to ready to find you. If you spend 40 rounds, they are also still going to ready. This won't change. The only difference is whether you are fortunate enough to pop up in one of the very limited locations that prevents a charge from Besthirah - but I would like to point out that you wanted to prevent charges from both players (since you weren't specific). On that condition, you are very limited in where you can pop up. As to them auto-spotting you - this has the same effect no matter what - if you are using your breath weapon - they will spot you. |

Sorry if it wasn't so clear. As for improvising, I would, but terribly wrong for me would be a nat 1 in the UMD check. Without anything more specific I really didn't know what else to do. |

I'm sorry, I totally missed the map in the PM. My fault. That said, still there would've been a lot of options for Jonathon. For example making Misery carry him into cover so that the hag can't blast with those MMs. But that wasn't in my tactics either, so I can't blame you for not doing that. My tactics would've been different if I had noticed that you had already picked the map. I just somehow jumped over it. Thanks anyway, I just have to try again next week with better luck - and better tactics. |
| Hirumajoe12-27-06, 11:32 AM | Before I get too much father in the Jar-red vs Fyhir and Zwei fight, everyone has random starting locations, right? I mean Fyhir and Zwei don't automatically start in the same box, correct? |
| TelinArtho12-27-06, 11:38 AM | That is correct. |
| MindWandererB12-27-06, 12:05 PM | Also - a simple Blue Dragon at the top of the sheet would go miles above what you've got.You mean, something like this? Sleek and smooth, blue dragon of slight stature and a ferocious temper. |
| TelinArtho12-27-06, 12:12 PM | Ironic that I've missed it this whole time... okay - I'm just blind... |
| Hirumajoe12-27-06, 12:25 PM | Starting to put up Jar-red, Fyhir, Zwei. Whats the official deadline in EST time? I may not be able to make it due to 3 year old interference. (A very cute 3 year old who wants to go out to play at the moment.) |
| TelinArtho12-27-06, 12:29 PM | You've technically got 2.5 hours from now. However, given that I've got my own 3 year old (and a 2 year old) - I would definitely understand if you wanted to play first. I certainly wouldn't hold it against you. |

Avoiding the charge from both of them makes no difference?! Come on! I am sorry again, you are right. I should never trust my pitlord to have common sense and take 'don't flap around making a taget of her and come up in cover wherever possible' to mean 'avoid being charged by big nasty grapplers.' I didn't fly because I was facing a bloody grappling bat. *sighs* Enough. The more I look at that fight, the more irritated I get. We are going to chalk this one up to it doesn't matter. Things happen. We aren't always going to be happy or even content with what a pitlord does with our characters. |
| MitzaVolchenko12-27-06, 12:40 PM | Starting to put up Jar-red, Fyhir, Zwei. Whats the official deadline in EST time? I may not be able to make it due to 3 year old interference. (A very cute 3 year old who wants to go out to play at the moment.) Take your time, hon. At this point, I couldn't update Zwei fast enough. Even the cold hearted Zwei would think the Frost-snack gets precedence. |
| spasheridan12-27-06, 12:40 PM | team fights don't start in the same spot? Why would they start apart? Our entire tactics were based on the fact that team start together.... |
| spasheridan12-27-06, 12:41 PM | I'm almost done with Mithos v Bazilli, hopefully I'll get it up before the deadline. Maybe we can get an extension for this week? |
| Zevox12-27-06, 12:46 PM | I'm almost done with Mithos v Bazilli, hopefully I'll get it up before the deadline. Maybe we can get an extension for this week? *shrugs* If it isn't done by the deadline, its considered late and held over to the next week's pairings anyway, so don't worry too much. Though it would be nice if I could get Mithos in another fight this week, but no big deal if thats not the case. Take your time, make sure things are in order - I understand :) . Zevox |
| Hrothmund12-27-06, 01:31 PM | Does a powerstone of expansion [ML3] increase the duration to min/level? How do you purchase a 3 powerpoint cost powerstone of expansion? What is the cost? |
| TelinArtho12-27-06, 01:34 PM | Augmenting expansion to 3pp can extend its duration to 10min/level (30 minutes for ML3). In a powerstone, this would treat the power as PL2, so the final cost would be: 25 * 3 (ML) * 2 (PL) = 150gp. |
| spasheridan12-27-06, 02:11 PM | HERE is the battle between Mithos and Bazili |
| Zevox12-27-06, 02:40 PM | HERE is the battle between Mithos and Bazili Eh, personally, I don't think someone like Bazili without the spellcraft skill should be allowed to recognize and evade select spells like that, but it makes no difference anyway. One thing that should be changed: Mithos' horse modifies the rewards on both sides by 25% (lost for him, gained for his foe). He only gets 675 xp/gp, while his foe gets 375 xp/gp. Zevox |
| spasheridan12-27-06, 03:31 PM | I posed that same question in here or the tavern a while back, no reply was given. His tactic is obviously metagaming, but since so many of our tactics involve metagaming in the arena (choosing the specific perfect exerptise / power attack combo, where we can move so we can attack but they can't because they are speed X, what energy resistance to take based on our opponents memorized spells) I figured it's fair enough. Was I correct in pointing out the missing barding on Noble? Is it somewhere and I missed it? I'll edit the rewards. |
| Sjiggie12-27-06, 03:33 PM | @ spasheridan Did you catch my comment about the fight Zerth vs The Mask Man? Anyway here it is again: 1 Minor mistake I wanted to use prescience offensive instead off precognition offensive as per the tactics. It doesn´t change the outcome of the battle but it will affect my expandables I can use the next fight. *Snip* round5+ use stone of offensive prescience *Snip* |

The difference here, if you ask me, is that he only wanted to do it if he saw the spell being cast. Thats not the same as simply sticking at a certain distance all the time or always using a certain power attack/combat expertise value - thats something I'd definitely require spellcraft to do personally. Was I correct in pointing out the missing barding on Noble? Is it somewhere and I missed it? No, you weren't. Looks like a copy and paste error - I've fixed it. Zevox |
| spasheridan12-27-06, 03:41 PM | @Siggie - I just finished that edit. @Zevox - I agree with you, it definitly hit my metagaming radar, but I didn't see a ruling disallowing it so I let it slide. Maybe we can get a firm answer from an elder for future fights? |
| TelinArtho12-27-06, 03:48 PM | Its always been allowed in the past. I've always just combined my sleep spellcasters with either a mount to counter the movement of the opponent or simply added in other full-round spells to the mix to make it a not-so-easy decision. If you want to get a full elder vote on it - you could always bring it to the oracle. |
| Sjiggie12-27-06, 04:39 PM | @Siggie - I just finished that edit. Thanks now I can update him to ECL 4 :) hopefully is he ready in the new year. Updating a character on holidays is not as easy since internet time is limited |
