| McJarvis12-05-06, 09:14 PM | Fights of the Week: December 6th Please don't edit the sheet after the deadline or you will lose the match. Rules of Gladius All that you need to know is written in the Rules of Gladius. It could be useful also to give a look to the Court Decisions Part 1 and Part 2. Please do not make fake accounts or insult the Elders. Pairings GM Caterane Substitute GM MindWandererB will pair the active Characters of Gladius after the deadline. Make sure that your character is not in prison (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=571107&goto=lastpost). Pitlording You should use the CoCo Dice Roller (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com) for the fight. If you need it, there is a nice template ready to use that will help. You could find the Battle Map Tag Generator (http://www.hwx.it/coco) for dynamic Maps very useful. You must post a link to your fight in this thread when it is complete. Another useful link is the Quick Access tables for XP and Gold. If a fight needs to be rerun, the Pitlord has to inform the Pitlords account. He cannot react to requests from Players because the other player and the pitlord might disagree. He has no time to read the fight and the discussion. Please keep that in mind. PMs from players with rerun requests won't have an impact. Recent News and Developments Abyssal Stalker is still pretty cool for resurrecting the Gladius Weekly. Telin is still pretty cool for winning UnCon. Forum will be Down on Thursday morning. Please take note of this...we're hoping it won't disrupt things. Comments & Concerns Post any comments or concerns for this weeks fights in this thread. Be kind and courteous to your fellow posters, and don't feed the pitlords. Please remember that they do hard work and consume a lot of time to let you play. Above all, have FUN! If you have questions or comments on any of the changes, please make your posts be heard in the Council of Gladius! |
| McJarvis12-05-06, 09:17 PM | MWB wanted to be sure people were aware of the forum being down on Thurs & I volunteered to put the post up early so people would be aware. Go me :) I don't think it'll disrupt things too much around here, though. Thursday is pretty much one of the best days for the forums to go down for CoCo... |
| NiQil12-05-06, 09:35 PM | Ummmm...you should really change the date of this thread to reflect the actual date of pairings, rather than the date you put it up....it might confuse people. The correct date should be December 6th. |
| McJarvis12-05-06, 09:37 PM | Ummmm...you should really change the date of this thread to reflect the actual date of pairings, rather than the date you put it up....it might confuse people. The correct date should be December 6th. Right:) ...yeah...I was putting in the date that I thought I was putting it up, not the date that I thought was tomorrow.... yeah....I'm not totally secluded from society.... edit-> NiQil! If you edit your response line no one will know.... <_< >_> |
| NiQil12-06-06, 01:53 PM | So I was going through to see who was active this week, and notice that a few of us either were affected by McJarvis' little booboo yesterday when he opened this thread, or haven't checked a calendar recently. @ Krytos, McJarvis and Etiquette_Gnome: You all have one or more characters listed as ready for this week but are using the incorrect dates. The correct date is December 6th. I didn't pay attention to which characters they were (I believe they were all in the ECL3 or 4 leagues), but you may want to double-check all of your characters and make sure you are using the correct dates, or the characters run the risk of not getting paired. |
| McJarvis12-06-06, 01:59 PM | Krytos for sure won't be back until 3pm est...he's in class. Fixed mine. Thanks for the work NiQil. |
| Krytos12-06-06, 03:08 PM | Fixed it. Thanks. I edited my sheet on Monday which is the reason mine said the 4th I think. |
| TelinArtho12-06-06, 03:11 PM | Time's up boys and girls - pass your pencils to the front of the class and turn your sheets over to the person on your left. |
| McJarvis12-06-06, 03:12 PM | I answered all C. How'd I do? ps/edit-> What's the time frame of not-editing for characters doing full activities? |
| Erithmu12-06-06, 03:15 PM | I answered all C. How'd I do? ps/edit-> What's the time frame of not-editing for characters doing full activities? It was an essay test. |
| McJarvis12-06-06, 03:15 PM | It was an essay test. So....that's a "not well" then? |
| hogarth12-06-06, 03:15 PM | I answered all C. How'd I do? ps/edit-> What's the time frame of not-editing for characters doing full activities? Once the appropriate post is up for you to link to, you should be O.K. |
| TelinArtho12-06-06, 03:24 PM | If its a full activity - put your title up until the pairings are listed as done - then it doesn't matter what/when you edit - just make sure the title is there. |
| Zevox12-06-06, 03:31 PM | So, just wanted to mention quickly that I've just found out how long my abscence from Pitlording should last (some of you may have noticed I didn't pitlord last week). For the next two weeks my life will be crazy with essay-writing for finals (ironically, I have no actual finals this semester - just essays coming out my ears), but after that I can pick things up again. I'll reduce my character activations to as few as possible to make up for abscence - don't want to be too big a drain here. Zevox |
| nightbanegod12-06-06, 03:59 PM | yay, i get to have my first fight in almost a year... WOOT ME!!! :dancin: :dancin: :dancin: :duel: |

| nightbanegod12-06-06, 04:04 PM | I hope ya win. Unless you're in ECL 3. ECL 3 bracket belongs to me. :-) just for that, THE GAUNTLET IS THROWN!!! if it aint too late, i want to eat your character... bring one, bring many, i think my guy is up to snuff!!! just wait till my new wizard shows up... im working on him right now... and lets just say... it is gonna be nice.... |
| Krytos12-06-06, 04:04 PM | What if he's ECL 3 but not fighting you? BTW, How many ECL 3's do you have right now McJarv? |
| nightbanegod12-06-06, 04:06 PM | so how many people are at work right now and still checking out the CoCo? i know i am, but my job is boring so i feel the need to be distracted, it rocks working at a desk again... |
| Krytos12-06-06, 04:07 PM | College for me. |
| NiQil12-06-06, 04:08 PM | @ NBG: Just as a thought...you might wanna consider updating your signature, since it still lists all of your retired characters... |
| McJarvis12-06-06, 04:09 PM | Unemployed/job searching |
| hogarth12-06-06, 04:09 PM | so how many people are at work right now and still checking out the CoCo? i know i am, but my job is boring so i feel the need to be distracted, it rocks working at a desk again... ....no comment... :shifty: |
| McJarvis12-06-06, 04:09 PM | What if he's ECL 3 but not fighting you? BTW, How many ECL 3's do you have right now McJarv? Eh..I'd rather not say? They're slowly leveling up, though :-) edit-> And I've started buying with credits/contests non-ecl3's...give me a few months, I'll control all the brackets... |
| NiQil12-06-06, 04:10 PM | ....no comment... :shifty: This is code for "What my bosses don't know won't hurt me." |
| MitzaVolchenko12-06-06, 04:38 PM | @ NBG: Just as a thought...you might wanna consider updating your signature, since it still lists all of your retired characters... Or perhaps he is like me and likes keeping them there... |
| Erithmu12-06-06, 04:39 PM | @MWB/Pitlords: Ephraim's quest is a full quest, not a mini |
| McJarvis12-06-06, 04:54 PM | @Hroth/The_Magister Good luck in the battle of the Gish FFA. :-) Nevermind, that fight got cancelled & changed... This burn is still funny tho: ;) edit-> @The Magister: Felt bad that Bazili and T.I.M. both have neat pictures for their characters, so I found a picture that I feel fits Tessero's style really well. ;) Tessero http://images.acclaimimages.com/_gallery/_SM/0018-0603-2016-0702_SM.jpg Valis :invasion: |
| TelinArtho12-06-06, 05:01 PM | Now THAT's smack talk if I ever saw it... |
| MitzaVolchenko12-06-06, 05:14 PM | @Pitlords Saffron Brass' MQ is mine. |
| TelinArtho12-06-06, 05:15 PM | Preliminary team tactics for Farig and Torel vs Istima have been sent to Erithmu. Tactics for Zax have been written - waiting on pitlord assignment... @McJarvis - it looks like you've been assigned to finish up the loose ends on the massive FFA at ECL9. Please do ask if you have any questions. |
| McJarvis12-06-06, 05:19 PM | Preliminary team tactics for Farig and Torel vs Istima have been sent to Erithmu. Please do ask if you have any questions. If you could point me to where the conversations in the last "concerns of the week" about the fight were, that'd be great. I'll try to wrap it up tomorrow. |
| Pitlords12-06-06, 05:34 PM | @Pitlords Saffron Brass' MQ is mine. Yes, yes it is. (Momentary error.) All right, I think I'm done, except for credits. Working on that. I have a question: Do 3-player FFAs get 1 credit or 2? (1.5 by the RAW, I don't know if we round up or down). There are probably errors, since this is my first time. Please point them out gently. Also note that I hit "save" a couple of times out of paranoia before things were done. Please make sure you see what's current. |
| TelinArtho12-06-06, 05:34 PM | Well Zelck's first post on the matter is post #248 in last week's FOTW. That said - I think the bulk of it has been summed up in the last few posts: 1. Zelck's feels it is unreasonable to have Walden withdraw from the Nightmare for x rounds instead of engaging the nightmare from round ~10 (I think). I'm not sure how he wanted to engage - as that's not in his tactics as far as I can see. 2. Kraegin's summons should have checked SR versus the CL1 potion of protection from Evil on Dronnar. The SR of the various summons are 19 (Achaierai), 11 (Huge Centipede), 8 (Large Centipede) 3. Kraegin's Spiritual weapon should have had 2 attacks/round after the initial targetting of Dronnar with it. The 2nd attack should have been at +8 with 1d8+3, 20/x2 crit. (I'll link all of these up if I get the chance, I'll also check the posts to see if there's anything I missed - others please feel free to add if needed). EDIT - here's the major points that were brought up that still seem to need to be resolved: OK, I checked the Rules of the Game article, and you're right. In this case, though, it's really stupid to have Walden withdraw for 5 rounds, basically letting the nightmare kill him without fighting. He should have been doing something else. 1. After the first round of attacks, the spiritual weapon should get 2 attacks per round unless Kraegin retargets it. 2. As mentioned, the Protection from evil potion is CL1 and must make CL checks to prevent the summoned monsters from hitting him anyway. SR is listed in the monster entries I provided in my tactics. 3. In the rewards, please do include that Shadow-smoke survived the encounter and that the duration is ~10 days left. I need to read what the arguments are about the nightmare - but I probably won't be able to comment too much about it before the deadline. If there's any question - I would prefer to have it held over - since the above two points probably are significant enough that Kraegin would have dealt another 12 points of damage to Dronnar. It appears to me that the remainder of the issue about the nightmare is that Walden should have been attacking it from rounds 10+ instead of trying to avoid it. Since it does appear that the nightmare will be a constant threat that will not be going away, then the part in his tactics about taking out an ally would seem to apply - he should be attacking Shadow-smoke. That said, he would be suffering the miss chance of the smoke from the nightmare - and I think it is extremely unlikely that his +7 melee with his guisarme for 1d4 damage will be doing anything near enough damage to the nightmare with 45 HP and 24 AC and 20% concealment. Alternatively, he could try shooting with his bow for +11 ranged and 1d4+1 damage and 2d6 for psionic shot - but that would be at 50% concealment or would be suffering from AoO from the Nightmare from firing in melee. |
| TelinArtho12-06-06, 05:35 PM | Yes, yes it is. (Momentary error.) All right, I think I'm done, except for credits. Working on that. I have a question: Do 3-player FFAs get 1 credit or 2? | spasheridan12-06-06, 05:47 PM | I have 2 PC's who are ready for actions this week - Finael is an ECL 4 PC wanting a fight Fyhir is an ECL 5 PC who is spending the week crafting some mithril full plate Did I mess them up somehow? |
| NiQil12-06-06, 05:48 PM | @ MWB: Correct me if I am wrong...but as per our new ECL 3 rules, I believe multi-player fights are not allowed in the ECL 3 league unless they are guild related or inter-league. Might want to double-check that. |
| McJarvis12-06-06, 05:49 PM | I have 2 PC's who are ready for actions this week - Finael is an ECL 4 PC wanting a fight Fyhir is an ECL 5 PC who is spending the week crafting some mithril full plate Did I mess them up somehow? I can answer that one. They aren't in the active characters roster. Did you msg Pitlords to have them added? |
| spasheridan12-06-06, 05:54 PM | I thought I saw something about a spider that did checking on that - didn't see that I needed to message. Is it possible to get them added to the active roster and get Finael paired up this week? Or at least have Fyhir's crafting take place? |
| Pitlords12-06-06, 05:54 PM | @ MWB: Correct me if I am wrong...but as per our new ECL 3 rules, I believe multi-player fights are not allowed in the ECL 3 league unless they are guild related or inter-league. Might want to double-check that. You're right. The pairingsmaker doesn't have that programmed correctly. I'll have to fix that. (The pairings, I mean, not the program). @Spasheridan: The spider only checks characters on the roster. I thought it was odd that you'd be PLing without having any characters on the roster. I'll see what I can do. |
| Zevox12-06-06, 05:58 PM | Error numero dos: Zassl (Maraxus) and Tatyana Malvont (Gonbow) vs. Perius[ECL10] (Ravashack): Erithmu [Temple] Perius is still ECL 9, and even if he were ECL 10 he'd be frozen, so this can't happen. Recommendation: Zassl vs Tayana in ECL 8 and Perius gets set against Auburn in ECL 9 in place of her monster fight. Zevox |
| Hirumajoe12-06-06, 05:58 PM | @McJarvis: May I say I feel sorry for you? Since you're running: Ventr the Dreamer (Milov) vs. Reginald Molehusband (hogarth) vs. Valen Sky (Hirumajoe) : McJarvis [Plains][All-vs-All] Which has no less than *19* independant units. 1 Familiar, 2 Psicrystals, 3 characters, and 12 donkeys. I may have missed the patridge in a pair tree. There should be rules against that many units or something... Anyways, I'll try to get my tactics in tonight. |
| McJarvis12-06-06, 05:59 PM | @McJarvis: May I say I feel sorry for you? I may have missed the patridge in a pair tree. There should be rules against that many units or something... I'd only feel bad if it were the forest. On the plains it could be fun :D Besides, Valen is one of my favorite characters to Pitlord for for no-reason-whatsoever. :) |
| Erithmu12-06-06, 06:08 PM | Error numero dos: Perius is still ECL 9, and even if he were ECL 10 he'd be frozen, so this can't happen. Recommendation: Zassl vs Tayana in ECL 8 and Perius gets set against Auburn in ECL 9 in place of her monster fight. ZevoxJust a note here. Perius is lvl 10, check the xp total. |
| Vathelokai12-06-06, 06:11 PM | Error numero dos: Perius is still ECL 9, and even if he were ECL 10 he'd be frozen, so this can't happen. Recommendation: Zassl vs Tayana in ECL 8 and Perius gets set against Auburn in ECL 9 in place of her monster fight. ZevoxI'd like to not have auburn refight Perius (fought him last week durring the same cycle). I'd prefer to keep the monster fight if at all possible. |
| Pitlords12-06-06, 06:12 PM | Error numero dos: Perius is still ECL 9, and even if he were ECL 10 he'd be frozen, so this can't happen. Recommendation: Zassl vs Tayana in ECL 8 and Perius gets set against Auburn in ECL 9 in place of her monster fight. Zevox Phoo. That one's not my fault. Done. But I need a pitlord for Finael vs. Monster, if I can get one. Edit: I need to check this Perius thing. Hold on. Edit 2: I just did a quick audit, and Perius should have 48,661 XP. He's been level 10 for a couple of fights now. Ravashack: I need to know whether you want me to pair him as ECL 10, despite the fact that you haven't done his level yet, or just take him off the pairings for the week. In any event, assuming my quick audit was correct, I'm going to have to ask you to treat his last fight as frozen; you lose +4500 gp/+2700 xp and get your Powerstone of Touchsight back at the end of the cycle. Certainly Auburn gets her monster back. |
| Zevox12-06-06, 06:13 PM | Just a note here. Perius is lvl 10, check the xp total. *raised eyebrow* You're right - 47k vs 45k required. So hes just frozen, and Auburn's in the monster fight after all. Zevox |
| Vathelokai12-06-06, 06:28 PM | @Abyssal Stalker TelinArtho: Auburn has all the knowledges, so if you could get me some monster info, that would be great. |
| Pitlords12-06-06, 06:35 PM | I caught myself in another mistake: Abyssal didn't want to pitlord for a week, and I, like an idiot, thought it would be easier to just leave him on the list but ignore him this week. Silly me. So I need 3 pitlords: The Mask Man (Milov) vs. Daniel Ocean (UserNamer) : XXXXX [Arena] Finael Owlguide (Spasheridan) vs. Random Monster: XXXXX [Cavern] Auburn (Vathelokai) vs. Random Monster: XXXXX [Sewer] |
| TelinArtho12-06-06, 06:37 PM | I can pick up any one of them. |
| Erithmu12-06-06, 06:40 PM | I'll take another. @Telin: gimme ... 4-5 hrs to get back to you on tactics, last final is tonight. |
| TelinArtho12-06-06, 06:45 PM | No prob - I might or might not be back online before the downtime tomorrow - but I should have some time to look things over again before the deadline at the least. |
| hogarth12-06-06, 06:45 PM | I'll take one, too (preferably Mask Man vs. Daniel Ocean, but a monster fight is O.K., too). |

| MitzaVolchenko12-06-06, 06:58 PM | @DSugui and MindWandererB Please send me something to get started with ;) @Vath I'll have Saffron's MQ start posted up tonight or tomorrow morning. |
| Erithmu12-06-06, 07:10 PM | @Splasheridan: Monster Fight info is up. @Mitza: I'll have The Ladies' Miniquest up later tonight |

| Zevox12-06-06, 07:26 PM | @ Hirumajoe - Tactics for Istima Telarc (vs Torel & Farig) have been PMed. Shouldn't take too long if the dice don't hate me. @ Telin - I'll have Ceilia's tactics away shortly. Zevox |
| DSugui12-06-06, 07:35 PM | Well, it's kind of weird not having to write tactics this week :) I think I will have plenty of time to work on those quests I have this week. @Rith: I am pretty familiar with Ephraim story, but it would be nice some more details to work with. @McJarvis: Are you going to rerun the FFA from the beginning, or are you going to use Macbrea's fight? I edited Dronnar after the rewards were posted, so please use his setup anyways. |
| NiQil12-06-06, 07:36 PM | @ TheMagister: Tactics for Elb Foraker sent via PM @ Gonbow: Tactics for Terek Mold sent via PM @ Iced: Tactics for Vaden Wick sent via PM |
| spasheridan12-06-06, 07:43 PM | Are there rules in the cavern about light levels or is it assumed to be lit? |
| Erithmu12-06-06, 07:56 PM | Are there rules in the cavern about light levels or is it assumed to be lit? General rule is that the arena provides what you are looking for. If you want dark you can have dimly lit, if you want lit you can have light. There is light down there if you need it. |

| Zevox12-06-06, 08:01 PM | @ Telin - Tactics for Ceilia Durrol (vs Danidus) have been PMed. Another CEF agent bites the dust ;) . Zevox |
| McJarvis12-06-06, 09:13 PM | @DSugui: Tactics sent. One bad set & one good set...should be obvious which one is which :) |
| McJarvis12-06-06, 10:18 PM | Tactics from Milov and Hroth received. |
| Hrothmund12-06-06, 10:18 PM | @ McJarvis: Tactics for Maelosh the Breaker sent. @Maraxus: Tactics for Bazili Stasha sent. |
| McJarvis12-06-06, 10:19 PM | w00t! I received them before you sent them ;) |
| Macbrea12-06-06, 10:23 PM | @Kyros: Relanex's tactics have been sent. This should be an interesting fight. In kind of a tormented pull out your hair kind of way. |
| hogarth12-06-06, 10:24 PM | @McJarvis: May I say I feel sorry for you? O.K. -- maybe the 12 donkeys are a little much. Is it too much to ask to expect a simple 14-vs.-1 fight some time, though? :D |
| Gonbow12-06-06, 10:31 PM | General rule is that the arena provides what you are looking for. If you want dark you can have dimly lit, if you want lit you can have light. There is light down there if you need it. Actually, this has been clarified to extend only to the Arena map; not the other maps, which generally have clearly defined conditions. However, I don't think any of the maps currently have a defined lightning condition, so it's probably in the same 'neutral zone' as the arena. If it's a small effect that doesn't give your opponent penalties, but rather merely gives you an advantage, it has it. (I.E: You cant have it sunlight to mess with an opponent that would be dazzled by that. But you can have it NOT be sunlight if you don't want to be dazzled, see?) @Niqil & Hrothmund Tactics recieved! Though I think Hrothmund, your tactics need to go somewhere else, as I should only be running one fight... Might have been assigned to someone else, eh? |
| Ravashack12-06-06, 10:53 PM | Phoo. That one's not my fault. Done. But I need a pitlord for Finael vs. Monster, if I can get one. Edit: I need to check this Perius thing. Hold on. Certainly Auburn gets her monster back. OK. That's fine with me. I didn't realize he shot up so quickly...I'm used to him taking forever each level. I only get like 2 hours of editable time a week to actually look at him. =X And yes you can pair him or not pair him as you prefer. If it is more advantageous on the pitlord situation to pair, then pair. Just let me know which by Thursday night so I can know whether to submit tactics or not. | Zelck12-07-06, 12:57 AM | Well Zelck's first post on the matter is post #248 in last week's FOTW. Looks like that's pretty much it. As far as engaging the nightmare, I referred to using my general attack strategies, so either shooting with bow or using Draining Touch. I'd also like to point out that nowhere in Kraegin's tactics is having the nightmare go ethereal mentioned. In fact, it doesn't even seem to talk about attacking Walden specifically with the nightmare. Still, I'll agree that it's an acceptable improv. |

He had one opponent down on the ground dead and one being pounded on and blocked by his summons. This left Walden left to fight. To quote his tactics exactly. '. If he is within reach of any of my summons, have them attack him (not the achaierai - but everything else). Shadow-smoke will take any opponent on.' The Nightmare has a 13 int and wisdom. It has ethereal at will. To order it to attack Walden is pretty much in the tactics. |
| MindWandererB12-07-06, 03:27 AM | OK. That's fine with me. I didn't realize he shot up so quickly...I'm used to him taking forever each level. | Maraxus12-08-06, 04:37 PM | @Hogarth - I'm only missing tactics from Kilpquabjeg. I'll wait till 12:00 pm US Central on Saturday before I declare an autoloss. Shouldn't a pitlord use the default tactic then? Use Vigor + Force Shield + Inertial Armor from power stone. Use Psionic Levitate to avoid melee. Use Magic Missile from wand. I think even if there was no default tactic, pitlord should run this, even more, if there is one. |
| MindWandererB12-08-06, 04:39 PM | Shouldn't a pitlord use the default tactic then? I think even if there was no default tactic, pitlord should run this, even more, if there is one.Well, it is a pitlord's prerogative to make it an auto-loss if there are no defaults, but since there are, then that's not an option. |
| Erithmu12-08-06, 04:40 PM | @Hirumajoe: Torel's portion of tactics sent, Farigs should either have been received or following shortly. |

| TelinArtho12-08-06, 06:08 PM | I suppose I should probably mention that the Half-Celestial Remorhaz fight is up... |
| Vathelokai12-08-06, 06:32 PM | Remorhaz vs Auburn It's payback for all those times I polymorphed my familiar into a remorhaz. |

| Erithmu12-08-06, 10:13 PM | Tatyana + Maraxus vs Perius is up. Two fights, one night. Finals is over. |
| spasheridan12-08-06, 11:37 PM | @Erithmu- I figure I'm fast, sneaky, and good with a bow. Use it. Declare my foe as my dodge target. Move (hiding/silent/ 1/2 speed) I didn't see any spot / listen checks vs my move silent / hide. Drink potions of CLW if I'm below 10 HP. Unicorns have decent spots / listen, but a round or 2 of arrows and - yeah, unless I roll some crits with an extra arrow attack there's no way this is going to fall my way. Also - I don't think my AC was actually 25. Dex +4, Armor +5, +1 Dodge, +2 deflect, +4 shield, -2 Rage = 24. I think you stacked the +2 deflect from my SoF potion w/my +1 deflect from a ring. That would hit me with an extra hoof or 2 I think... I'd like to see the sneak part of the tactics, but unless there is some serious luck there's no way this is going to change. If you have the time otherwise thanks for the pitlording! |
| Erithmu12-08-06, 11:40 PM | I have the time but the unicorn has scent and still had about 60ft of movement hitting that corner. |
| spasheridan12-09-06, 12:42 AM | Scent (Ex): This special quality allows a creature to detect approaching enemies, sniff out hidden foes, and track by sense of smell. Creatures with the scent ability can identify familiar odors just as humans do familiar sights. The creature can detect opponents within 30 feet by sense of smell. If the opponent is upwind, the range increases to 60 feet; if downwind, it drops to 15 feet. Strong scents, such as smoke or rotting garbage, can be detected at twice the ranges noted above. Overpowering scents, such as skunk musk or troglodyte stench, can be detected at triple normal range. When a creature detects a scent, the exact location of the source is not revealed—only its presence somewhere within range. The creature can take a move action to note the direction of the scent. Whenever the creature comes within 5 feet of the source, the creature pinpoints the source’s location. A creature with the Track feat and the scent ability can follow tracks by smell, making a Wisdom (or Survival) check to find or follow a track. The typical DC for a fresh trail is 10 (no matter what kind of surface holds the scent). This DC increases or decreases depending on how strong the quarry’s odor is, the number of creatures, and the age of the trail. For each hour that the trail is cold, the DC increases by 2. The ability otherwise follows the rules for the Track feat. Creatures tracking by scent ignore the effects of surface conditions and poor visibility. Without the track feat the creature has to aproach within 30 feet of me to detect my presence with scent. Since it's not a targetting sense the creature then needs to spot / listen for me to choose where to go or waste time / move quartering the area. Unicorns are pretty smart so it should find me pretty quick even if it failed all its spots / listens, of course it needs to (luckily) run to the cave corner I started in 1st to do that. |

With your posistioning of right near the entrance of your cave entrance it detects you. I think what you might be forgetting is that that unicorn has a 120 fly speed (Good). You started opposite corner and it is at 170ft moved when it hits the outer corner. At this point there is nothing for you to hide behind. If you had gone for the statues I can understand with a muddling around. It did visit an adjacent start box and look in there and then pass by it. I made the spot/listen/hide/ms rolls: (Hide/MS 25,25 vs Spot/Listen 29,25: spotted) they are in round 11 of the same link if you would care to check. |

| Erithmu12-09-06, 11:23 AM | When the pairings were made there were a set of ECL 3 team fights. However new rules were implimented that disallow team fights in the ECL 3 bracket, so the Team tag was probably just not removed. The automatic pairings maker hasn't been adjusted to account for no 'multiperson' fights in the ECL 3 bracket. |

SNA II's duration is 1round/level, meaning 4 rounds. You have him appear in round 13 and dissapear before round 15. I don't think it would change much about the fight but it might save Wisp a bolt. |

For some stoopid reason I was thinking, "SNAII, so it lasts two (II) rounds!" Sorry. And thank goodness it wouldn't have changed anything. That fight was an ally nightmare. I'll bet there were eight to ten rolls a round. I shudder to think about Abyssal's (something like 19 total independent participants in the) FFA last week. {shudder} See? :hides: TM |

Yeah, I wasn't too certain of the terms of use for that combo. I figured that if Psi got a natural 20 and confirmed it (which he certainly would have) I'd be the hero of the moment when Wisp was able to turn the tables on Roy and snipe the crap outta him for the rest of the match. Alas, no 20. Believe me, I considered just having you surrender, but there was that little thing in your default tactics...darn it. TM |
| TheMagister12-10-06, 08:05 AM | I think you just redifined 'colorful commentary.' Roy Kadeer, the flaming druid. Gives all the other druids fashion tips. Makes a gourmet meal out of ivy, fava beans, and baby spinach leaves. Still hasn't gotten up the gumption to bring his "animal friend" Steve to the enclave to meet the other druids. Has lots of simply fabulous shoes made of elven silverbark. :nonono: ...I'm gonna get into trouble for this one. Or at least lower someone's opinion of me. :weep: TM p.s. - don't lie. You laughed. |

Another reason for MWB to surrender this one. |

TM I'm going to not surrender, even though I know it's suicide, for one reason: cost. Kilp is using 225 gp worth of dorje every time she waves it around, and Kervan has a mess of free/cheap healing available to him. I refuse to let someone get away with a "free" win because of their expendable capability. You can have the win, but it'll cost you. |

| TheMagister12-10-06, 04:07 PM | Well, right you were, hogarth. Kervan botched the concentration check (DC 17 vs. the cold wall's damage) and lost the CSW. Next round Kilp dropped another wall in the area (just to be safe) even though it turned out to be totally overkill. Total charges used: 5. Results and everything are posted. Now I'm just moving too fast. The Concentration check is for 10+(1/2 persistant damage), or 13. He made it. I'll roll the rest of the concentration checks now. Edit: All right, got it all ironed out. 7 charges used, 1 concentration check DC 12 blown (rolled a 1). TM |

| TelinArtho12-11-06, 12:31 AM | First of all, Hugs has a 10ft reach - so moving in to grapple wouldn't provoke for movement. Secondly, since Hugs has reach - never is Zax actually firing into melee unless Ynotar actually closes to that distance. This indicates a hit on Ynotar in round 13. However, neither of these will make enough of a difference in the long run - so the fight can stand as is, just stow the notes away for the future. |

Having the option to use a horse in a fight is worth something, just like having the option to buy a stock at a certain price is worth something. Kilpquabjeg just keeps her horse around in case she has to fight something really fast (like a mounted opponent or a dragon). |
| McJarvis12-11-06, 02:24 PM | Shreckentaum deJack (Etiquette_Gnome) vs. The Illustrated Man (McJarvis) is up HERE Thanks for running it :-). Regarding tactics-> The longspear drawing was to draw some AoO's in case it was useful(before grappling was initiated). I could easily make the grapple attempt by letting go of the spear with 1 hand & attempting to start the grapple with that hand. Fortunately, this did not end up being an issue :) I think the fight would have been even _shorter_ if Dreamer had been moving at full 2x speed instead of the single moves he appears to be making..(80x2=160 ft per round) edit-> Oh...I see, you didn't edit in his speed concerns. OK, I'll make sure to note that from now on in tactics:) |

| Zevox12-11-06, 03:54 PM | Danidus of the Sands (Vecnoran) intercepts Ceilia Durrol (Zevox) [Guild Interception] is up. Looks pretty good overall. There are a few errors (like the fact that Ceilia's caster level is 3, so Divine Favor should have lasted 20 more rounds) and one or two things you forgot (mainly having Foresight trample instead of attack when Danidus returned to medium size), but since they all seem to benefit Ceilia theres no need to edit for them. Thanks for the run :) . Zevox |
| TelinArtho12-11-06, 03:56 PM | Divine favor lasts 1 minute not 1 minute per level. Noted on the other though - I'll keep that in mind if I need to edit it. |

I could've sworn it was 1 minute per level. Hm, well that makes it less useful. Maybe I ought to look into just having her prepare shield of faith and save on the scrolls if divine favor is such a short duration. Edit: Actually, theres one big error I just noticed while looking at the roller that should make any edits moot - Foresight should have +11 to resist trip attempts, not +7. He ha +4 large, +4 quadruped, +3 strength. I'm guessing you forgot the bonus for being quadrupedal. Zevox |

No no, not at all - like I said, edits that benefit Ceilia are pointless since they just make the outcome more certain :) . The best this could do is save her that one wand charge, which isn't at all a concern with me (she just hit 6th level and this is only the 3rd charge she has used off that thing for crying out loud). | Hirumajoe12-11-06, 11:22 PM | Quick question regarding Hogarth's tactics for Reginald. If it's not allowed, skip the smokesticks. At any rate, he'll order his psicrystal to grapple him (!); that should give Valen's arrows a 50% chance to hit his psicrystal instead. Then maybe Valen will run out of arrows and be forced to approach. I'm not holding my breath, though. Now I note Step 3 from SRD grapple rules: Hold. Make an opposed grapple check as a free action. If you succeed, you and your target are now grappling, and you deal damage to the target as if with an unarmed strike. If you lose, you fail to start the grapple. You automatically lose an attempt to hold if the target is two or more size categories larger than you are. So if I understand the last line correctly, since his psicrystal is at least two sizes smaller, it can't actually maintain or hold a grapple. However, Reginald can instead grapple his psicrystal. Also, since his psicrystal is a construct, he doesn't have to worry about the required unarmed strike damage on the first blow. (Where as his psicrystal would be causing 1 point of non-lethal damage each time it tried to grapple Reginald. Err... Of course I'm not sure how automatically failing to hold works into that...) Not sure if it really makes a difference to the fight, but I thought I'd point out the semantics of it. :-) |

Also, a psicrystal has an unarmed strike damage of 0 unless enlarged, so it couldn't possibly do damage anyway. I should point out that this is simply bizarre, but I can't find anything technically wrong with it. |
| Macbrea12-12-06, 08:10 AM | The only real issues I have with the fight are the following: My AC should be 10 + 3 Dex + 1 Deflection + 8 Cover + 4 laying down vs a ranged = 26. There was no reason for him to ever stand up vs the archer. He cannot threaten the area around him at any time with the weapons he has and therefore might as well continue to lay down. This would have effected the first hit completely. I guess it is pitlords opinion on wether a web starts completely on fire. If lit ablaze. There is no particular reason for me to stay on the surface. I probably should have stood back up and dropped to the bottom and layed back down forcing him to negate my cover. According to our tactics. Neither of the actions change the fight in any method that is meaningful. It only pushes the fight more in the favor of Relanex. So, if TheMagister doesn't want edits for stuff during the fight then don't bother to edit for my corrections. On, and we do need rewards for the fight! :P |

I should point out that this is simply bizarre, but I can't find anything technically wrong with it. He's essentially trading his +2 Dex bonus (negated by the grapple) for a 50% miss chance. What would be better is becoming prone (+4 AC vs Ranged) and taking the full defense action (another +4 I believe) for a total of 24 AC vs Ranged. Against my +10 -2 for range = +8. Requires 16's to hit. In this case I need 6's to hit and have a 50% miss chance. In the first case its a 20% chance to hit, while in the second its a 35% chance, plus his psicrystal might be destroyed (since my 1d8+4 damage can beat through its hardness... Very slowly admittedly). Edit: Of course being prone means he can't move and Ventr can attack him very easily. |

If you read the whole tactics, you'll notice Reg will be prone while grappling; at least that's what I intended. His AC should be 22 (armor+prone+cover from donkeys). I pondered the benefits of taking total defense vs. grappling and I decided that I'd go with the grapple since it's funnier and I think Reg will lose anyway. It's his 3rd fight of the cycle, so I'm not worried about losing his psicrystal. I'm not worried about Reg getting grappled by Ventr considering that he can just levitate out of reach. If the smokestick ploy is allowed, the miss chance should be more like 1 - [25% (4 possible squares for him to be in) * 50% (total concealment) * 50% (grapple)] = 93.75%. I'm guessing that McJarvis will count it as illegal delaying tactics, though. |
| McJarvis12-12-06, 10:12 AM | There was no reason for him to ever stand up vs the archer. There is no particular reason for me to stay on the surface. I probably should have stood back up and dropped to the bottom and layed back down forcing him to negate my cover. According to our tactics. Your position made it impossible for you to cast spells at him, & you had to breath eventually. The delay penalty in this case was forcing you to come to the surface to cast spells. (Since Hood knew you were in the water, he could easily just wait for you to have to breath in order to negate your cover) At least, that's what Krytos seemed to imply to me last night. |
| Macbrea12-12-06, 10:25 AM | My position never changed though from prone to standing. It would have cost me a move equivalent action to do that. If he wished to float me to the the top as a delay penalty he is allowed to do that. Making me stand up before my breath runs out isn't. That is the same thing as me making a person jump from their horse because they cannot be attacked by an opponent. It puts an unfair dissadvantage against the person being penalized based off changes in terrian. Delay penalties normally are actions such as pointing out exactly where I am, dispelling the character, ect. Delay penalties that give the fight to the opponent though are considered a no-no. In this case he just rolled bad. Had I come to the surface and caught my breath. Then gone back to the bottom. By Hood's tactics he had to jump into the water to negate my cover. This reallly didn't do anything because of the rolls that were made after that point. It comes down to how rough a Delay penalty is decided. In this case forcing me to come to the surface and not go back to the bottom resulted in an increased and unessessary danger to the evoker. He should have gone back underwater after each set of attacks. ::shrug:: It's all personal opinion on how a pitlord is going to run a fight. It is the reason I am not too worried about it either way. |

If there is a problem, I'm sorry but I don't have any more time before the deadline. I don't think I've ever seen a fight end with -1 vs 0 hp before. You didn't this time either. Round 17 Hood uses 2 ML Vigor to push his hp from 3 to 13 He then gets damaged down to 5(which still includes 2 temp hp) He then uses another Vigor stone, which should only give him 8 more hp(since the 2 temp hp left over don't stack) This puts him at 13 hp. He then gets hit by magic missile for 15 damage & drops to -2 hp, thus never getting his shot off. End result: not as close of a fight & hood saves an arrow. |

That is the same thing as me making a person jump from their horse because they cannot be attacked by an opponent. It puts an unfair dissadvantage against the person being penalized based off changes in terrian. It's not the same at all-> you can always attack the horse & in the end staying on the horse forever won't kill that person via suffocation. Additionally, I have never seen a fight where being on a horse prevented someone from attacking their enemy(like you being too deep in a hole is doing here) By Hood's tactics he had to jump into the water to negate my cover. Waiting for you to run out of air also would negate your cover. Furthermore, your character had no way of attacking at all unless he came out to "just" +8 AC cover. It comes down to how rough a Delay penalty is decided. In this case forcing me to come to the surface and not go back to the bottom resulted in an increased and unessessary danger to the evoker. You specifically said you didn't care about delay penalties & would let them stack up as much as possible. Given Hood's ability to wait for you to run out of air & your inability to attack your opponent at all, I think what Krytos did was fair. |
| Macbrea12-12-06, 10:40 AM | The tactics I was talking about is the following: Hood will ready an action to fire on sign of spellcasting and then move into Relanex's LOS on purpose (stay in undergrowth, though!). This is technically suicide at the situation that it would have occured. As Relanex would have LOS against his target being underwater and Hood would be suffering from not being able to target Relanex at all because of Total cover against ranged attacks from outside of the water. I understand ignoring this part completely. and CHANGE THE SHOT TO A FELL SHOT IF FIRING INTO COVER, but (if at all possible) move to negate cover (hard on a ready action, I know. Possible with Hustle?). This in no way says wait 24 rounds for your opponent to come up for air. This says 'move to negate cover'. It is pretty obvious the movement to negate cover is a movement to jump in the water. I personally am fine with the fight. I just wanted to point out that alot of improvisation started occuring suddenly. |
| McJarvis12-12-06, 10:42 AM | I personally am fine with the fight. I just wanted to point out that alot of improvisation started occuring suddenly. That improvisation was made necessary due to your tactics detailing no way to find your opponent. It took Kryt forever to finally come up with the decision he did. |
| Macbrea12-12-06, 10:48 AM | Heh, It is the reason I lit the webs on fire. It was so my overconfident opponent would come looking for me. Use his psycrystal to spot my exact location then have to engage me in combat or stand about and do not much. I knew his tactics would assume he had an instant win. On any other map he would have been correct. His attacks would have killed Relanex in 1 round. |

| Krytos12-12-06, 11:06 AM | Hood vs Relanex now has its rewards posted (That's what happens when you finish a fight at 3am) As far as you standing up to to attack instead of lying on the bottom. Ignoring the fact you were in water, I decided that your LOS would be blocked by the 5ft deep hole in the ground you were in. Making it so you could see in the hole, and maybe a few squares of the opposite bank. Your tactics of laying down would have been useless unless Hood chose to go to the edge of the bank. Hood could have simply stood back, and fired every time you came up for air. As for Hood's tactics of moving to negate cover, since Hood had no tactics regarding the Stream, I figured joining you in the water would have provided enough enough negatives to the attack roll (You could be prone at that point, plus the underwater combat mods) that staying back would be more beneficial. I need to go study for finals now. |
| Macbrea12-12-06, 11:23 AM | heh. Thanks for running the fight. I was just curious as to some of the decissions that were made vs the tactics that were written. Now, I must wait for TheMagister to come around before I edit Relanex for next week! |

| Macbrea12-12-06, 02:03 PM | Nope, it should be: ECL 5 vs ECL 7 divided by 2 for the two level 5s and ECL 7 vs ECL 5 times 2 divided by 3 for the looser. ECL 7 1050 x 2 = 2100 / 3 = 700 xp 861 gp ECL 5 3000 / 2 = 1500 = 1500 xp 1590 gp |

I'm so confused... Anyone have a link to where these rules are? |
| Macbrea12-12-06, 02:13 PM | Sorry. that should have been ECL 7 vs two ECL 5s Not ECL 7 vs ECL 7.. |
| Macbrea12-12-06, 02:14 PM | So... ECL 7 chracter gets 1050 x 2 (opponents both ECL 5) = 2100 / 3 (Loss) = 700 xp 861 gp ECL 5 characters both get 3000 / 2 (Number of Combatants) = 1500 xp 1590 gp This is adjusted by allies of course. |
| Hirumajoe12-12-06, 02:15 PM | Oh, ok. That makes much more sense. And its even table top like. :-) Rewards are now up for Farig, Torel and Istima. And I reiterate, if anyone has a problem with the fight, let me know and I'm willing to fix it. |

And even if he didn't, why not remount and fly away immediately? My tactics were to avoid being based however I could, so it would seem only to fit with the tactic that he stay mounted and fly away to avoid being in melee (I was, after all, fully aware that I didn't have enough pp to destroy them both with manifesting alone, which meant hit-n-run crossbow shots were needed). Side note, no effect on the fight, but when Istima hits Farig with the fire bolt, he could manifest defensively (auto-succeeds) to avoid those AoOs (none hit, which is why its no effect on the fight). Zevox The manifest defensively was a brain fart on my part (you're quite correct). Well, from what I understand of soft fall, you need to dismount to avoid the 1d6 fall damage. At the time, I was thinking the AoO from standing up was going to kill Istyar anways (being only at 13 hp and only needing 14's to hit. Farig and one of the animals seemed likely a likely combination of hitting). But you're right, Istyar could stand up, you could remount, and then proceed to move away (having already burned all your opponent's AoOs) or mount before standing up and try to negate an attack. Basically I thought your pegasus was dead on the spot and remounting seemed silly (and avoiding the 5 falling damage seemed like the way to go). However, upon further consideration, you can probably get away reasonably safely. I'll see what I can do to round 6. Ok, I'll see what kind of changes that makes in round 6 and onwards, trying to keep the same rolls. |

Zevox The second point is correct, but at the same time - Farig et al get AoO on Istima when Istima has Istyar withdraw while Istima manifests - AoO from movement. On your first point, this is kind of a grey area, but I would say that you cannot stay mounted on a prone creature that is brought to prone forcefully (if a mount goes down to prone willingly, I could certainly see it - but not when the mount is specifically thrown to the ground). If you did want to remount (which I certainly can see and understand), the AoO on Istyar in round 6 would still be there - meaning Istyar is down to 4hp. Then you mount and fly away. Farig chases after you and attacks to trip Istyar - (next attack is a 20) - so you would need a ride check there. However, I do want to point out that my next trip check is a 27 - so if I ever hit - you are effectively downed in the same situation. |
| Hirumajoe12-12-06, 02:47 PM | Quick question, if you full attack in the previous round and take a -2 penalty for two weapon fighting, does that penalty stick around when you make an AoO before your next action? |
| TelinArtho12-12-06, 02:49 PM | No - TWF penalty only applies when you actually make attacks with 2 weapons. AoO would never suffer that penalty (at least that I can think of). |
| Hirumajoe12-12-06, 02:52 PM | No - TWF penalty only applies when you actually make attacks with 2 weapons. AoO would never suffer that penalty (at least that I can think of). Ok cool. You've got +2 more on your AoO's then. I was using +8. |
| McJarvis12-12-06, 02:58 PM | Ok, Valen just pulled off an absolutely amazing critical. Dang..two of my fights ended with amazing crits this week. :-O |
| TelinArtho12-12-06, 03:00 PM | One minor point as well, but one that will probably make changes not worth it - in round 5, when Sinwa attacks, the dire bat should be at a higher ground advantage (dire bat is flying - so the prone pegasus would be at lower ground). That +1 difference is enough to make the miss a hit and likely would result in the pegasus going down. |
| Hirumajoe12-12-06, 03:00 PM | In regards to the Farig, Torel and Istima fight. Doing some quick rolls shows that assuming Istima remains mounted, attempts to negate Farig's AoO, fails by 2 points, flies away, has Torel move to LOS and throw a Produce Flame at Istyar (so as to not waste the spell), hits, and drops Istyar to -8 hp. At which point Istima is in about the same situation as soon as Farig gets close enough to trip and disarm him. If you want me to make these modifications I can, but the outcome looks virtually identical. |
| Hirumajoe12-12-06, 03:02 PM | One minor point as well, but one that will probably make changes not worth it - in round 5, when Sinwa attacks, the dire bat should be at a higher ground advantage (dire bat is flying - so the prone pegasus would be at lower ground). That +1 difference is enough to make the miss a hit and likely would result in the pegasus going down. Actually, at that point in time Sinwa is still attacking before Farig. (hoping to draw the Combat Mount negation). Its only after Istima gets dismounted and goes into the alcove that Sinwa attacks after Farig. |
| TelinArtho12-12-06, 03:06 PM | Well, I meant round 6 on the AoO, where Sinwa rolled a 13 - which would've made it a 14 vs AC14, and therefore a hit. |
| Erithmu12-12-06, 03:07 PM | I have been watching and am happy with the fight, Telin and Zevox are better at considerations, I defer to them for the most part. |
| Hirumajoe12-12-06, 03:11 PM | Well, I meant round 6 on the AoO, where Sinwa rolled a 13 - which would've made it a 14 vs AC14, and therefore a hit. Oh. Umm... Yeah. I knew that. Really. :-) In that case, my first instinct was correct (soft falling and assuming the Pegasus was done for). I'm going to leave the fight as is then, assuming there are no more objections. |
| hogarth12-12-06, 03:18 PM | Ok, Valen just pulled off an absolutely amazing critical. Dang..two of my fights ended with amazing crits this week. :-O ...not to mention that this is the second week in a row that Valen pulled such a critical smackdown on Ventr! Oof! |
| Hirumajoe12-12-06, 03:20 PM | ...not to mention that this is the second week in a row that Valen pulled such a critical smackdown on Ventr! Oof! Owww.... My apologies to Milov. I swear Valen is far too lucky for his own good. Edit: Wait, Valen came through that fight completely uninjured? |
| Sutro12-12-06, 03:23 PM | Sigh. Last week, I don't roll a 20 in 60 shots and lose by 1 hp, this week, I fail on the 1 in 20 chance to use a scroll. There is one thing and it's kind of a big one, DSugui: In my tactics, the main tactic and specified in the latter portion is: "Main Tactic: Try to use summoned bat swarm to wear him down, then engage in melee if he's small, at range if he's not." Since he was small and easily within my base range after the scroll got burnt, I should have been moved to base him with the greatsword since he was small instead of engaging in archery. A couple of other things: Also note that since he doesn't have the guisarme out I won't draw an AOO, and since I'm already based on him, unless he withdraws and I can't catch him (unlikely with my 40 base move) when he's enlarged he doesn't threaten with it in the 5' and 10' square blocks - he'll be doing his enlarged armor spike damage instead unless he wants to provoke from me (which he might.) -Sutro |
| McJarvis12-12-06, 03:23 PM | Owww.... My apologies to Milov. I swear Valen is far too lucky for his own good. Edit: Wait, Valen came through that fight completely uninjured? Yeah...nobody was attacking you until Milov tried to grapple you, and he got unlucky and failed twice. |
| McJarvis12-12-06, 03:30 PM | Ok...all rewards posted except for the gp/xp amounts for that ECL 5 fight. If anyone wants to help me out...my head hurts & there are so many allies... |
| Hirumajoe12-12-06, 03:53 PM | Ok...all rewards posted except for the gp/xp amounts for that ECL 5 fight. If anyone wants to help me out...my head hurts & there are so many allies... Ok, ignoring allies: Valen gets 2500 xp and 2666gp. Winner and 2 Losers. Ventr gets 1000 xp and 1066 gp. 2 Losers. Reginald gets 500 xp and 533gp. 1 Loser. Now how do these get modified by allies? Edit: So I think what happens is Valen takes his full ally penalty (1/3*25% = -8.333%). Reginald takes his full ally penalty (-16.666%). Ventr takes his fully ally pentalty (-0%). Then everyone gets bonuses based on their opponent's allies divided by the number of opponents. So Valen gets +8.333% = ((16.666 + 0) /2) So Reginald gets 4.166% = ((8.333 + 0)/2) And Ventr gets 12.5% = (8.333 + 16.666)/2) So net, Valen gets +0%, Reginald takes -12.5% and Ventr gets +12.5%. So Valen takes home 2500 xp and 2666 gp. Reginald takes home 437.5 and 466.375 gp. Ventr takes home 1125 xp and 1199.25 gp. |
| MindWandererB12-12-06, 04:06 PM | Ok, ignoring allies: Valen gets 2500 xp and 2666gp. Winner and 2 Losers. Ventr gets 1000 xp and 1066 gp. 2 Losers. Reginald gets 500 xp and 533gp. 1 Loser. Now how do these get modified by allies? Valen has a CR 1 ally: 8.3333% penalty to him, 4.1677% bonus to everyone else. Ventr has no ally. Reginald has 12 CR 1/6 donkeys: 16.6667% penalty to him, 8.3333% bonus to everyone else. Valen: net modifier zero. 2500/2666. Ventr: net modifier +12.5%. 1125/1199. Reginald: net modifier -12.5%. 438/467. |
| hogarth12-12-06, 04:29 PM | Reginald: net modifier -12.5%. 438/467. Reginald gets a +29% bonus, however, so it's actually a total modifier of +16.5% = 582 xp/620 gp. |
| Milov12-12-06, 04:57 PM | Comment on Ventr/Valen/Reggy fight.... OW. Bloody OW. Valen apparently doesn't like Ventr.... Jeeze. Twice in a row! One hit kills with Crits! Oww..... Oh well. Congrats Hirumajoe. Hogarth.... Reggy's horde of donkeys.... Erm.... I can only ask this.... Why? |
| hogarth12-12-06, 05:07 PM | Hogarth.... Reggy's horde of donkeys.... Erm.... I can only ask this.... Why? I just wanted an extremely cheap backup for Reginald's grappling horses. They didn't help much, did they? |
| Milov12-12-06, 05:18 PM | I just wanted an extremely cheap backup for Reginald's grappling horses. They didn't help much, did they? Not from what I saw. But oh well, the wall of donkeys is a rather interesting concept, and gave a bit of extra time for brain locking and whatnot. ;) |
| TheMagister12-12-06, 07:12 PM | @Krytos regarding Hood vs. Relanex: Bob can't fall while climbing. He's got a frickin' climb speed! Why'd you make him balance? Hood's ready action in round 13 changes the initiative order of the fight. After the ready action fires, Hood now goes before Relanex. As far as I can tell, this changes things in this way: r13: Relanex begins casting. Hood's ready action goes off. Initiative order changes to Hood 231, Relanex 232. r14: Hood regains focus. Hood readies an action to disrupt spellcasting. Relanex points a wand a Hood and mutters a command word. Hood's ready action goes off. Hood misses. TWICE (sigh). r15: Hood regains focus. Hood readies an action to disrupt spellcasting. Relanex casts, Hood tries to interrupt and misses. Again. By one. r16: Hood regains focus. Hood readies an action to disrupt spellcasting. Relanex points and mutters. Hood gets a shot. (Didn't happen.) Edit: I should be more specific. Hood's shot on round 20 (his next sequential attack) should happen on round 16. So, if Relanex makes his concentration check to activate the wand, he'll be at 0 hp, activate the wand, and then fall unconscious and drown. If he fails his concentration check, he'll still be at 0 hp, and readying an action will kill him. So basically, Hood should win. Also, why didn't you have Hood jump into the water to negate Relanex's cover? That would've ended things even faster! Regardless, I appreciate the work you put into the fight, especially with all the obscure rules you had to apply. Thanks for your service to the CoCo! TM |

It seems I missed that. But then, if you moved in his direction, he would cast Enlarge Person, what would make you go for ranged. Looking at the rolls, you would have hit him twice, three times tops, not enough to bring him down before he did that to you. It would take a couple of rounds longer, but it wouldn't change the outcome. |
| Zevox12-12-06, 07:19 PM | @ Hirumajoe - The one edit that I would like to request you make, is that in any of these changes, Istyar is not killed (-10 hp) by the time Istima is dismounted and down to 1 pp (at which point it is hopeless and he should simply surrender). Thats rather important, since this is his first fight of the cycle and Istyar is his only flying mount (one which cost him a cool 6,000 gp at that), so if you could edit it so he keeps him, that'd be greatly appreciated. Zevox |
| Hirumajoe12-12-06, 07:36 PM | @ Hirumajoe - The one edit that I would like to request you make, is that in any of these changes, Istyar is not killed (-10 hp) by the time Istima is dismounted and down to 1 pp (at which point it is hopeless and he should simply surrender). Zevox Fair enough. That'll also save Torel a spell, since he doesn't need to summon a wolf. I'll fix Sinwa's hit, have Istyar go down (and I don't think its possible for him to reach -10 from that one blow), then everyone focuses on Istima who promptly surrenders. Edit: Changes made. Saves Torel a spell and you save your mount and a crossbow bolt. |
| McJarvis12-12-06, 07:51 PM | So basically, Hood should get one more shot at disrupting that magic missile barrage. TM Can you disrupt someone casting a spell from a wand? I didn't think there was a concentration check at all... |
| Zevox12-12-06, 07:55 PM | Can you disrupt someone casting a spell from a wand? I didn't think there was a concentration check at all... I do believe you're right, no concentration needed for wands. Compare the wording of the wand activation description with that of potions, for example - potions mention requiring concentration (why, I have no idea, but they do), wands do not. Zevox |
| TheMagister12-12-06, 08:10 PM | You don't normally need to make a concentration check to pick a lock either, unless you're being bashed on the head with a mace while you're trying to do it. See the Concentration skill: You must make a concentration check whenever you might potentially be distracted (by taking damage, by harsh weather, and so on) while engaged in some action that requires your full attention. Such actions include casting a spell, concentrating on an active spell, directing a spell, using a spell-like ability, or using a skill that would provoke an AoO. general, if an action wouldn't normally provoke an AoO, you need not make a Concentration check to avoid being distracted. Wow...I didn't see that the first time through. Using a wand doesn't provoke an AoO, so it can't be interrupted...that's a new one to me. It still doesn't change the initiative consequences of the ready action in the Hood v. Relanex fight. |
| MindWandererB12-12-06, 08:39 PM | I do believe you're right, no concentration needed for wands. Compare the wording of the wand activation description with that of potions, for example - potions mention requiring concentration (why, I have no idea, but they do), wands do not. Zevox I think the logic is that it's pretty hard to drink a potion while being stabbed, or while riding a galloping mount, etc. "Concentration" is probably a misnomer in this case, but the effect is the same. |

TM Looks like Krytos doesn't want to deal with it right now. I told him to PM Pitlords with the issues to finish the fight up next week. |
| Krytos12-12-06, 10:12 PM | I'm sorry about screwing up the fight and the tactics. It's finals week here and I had to stay up late to finish that fight. If you guys want a re-run/held over to fix things let me know and I'll PM the Pitlords. Either that, or if someone else wants to fix it up. P.S. I hate the forest |
| TheMagister12-12-06, 10:14 PM | Well, nobody can fix it but you, and the problem doesn't merit a rerun. A pretty simple edit will fix it right up. Use strikethrough to take out what doesn't belong, and let McJarvis total up the used expendables and such after you do the quick edit and send a PM to pitlords about the reversal of the winner/loser. All in all, it should take you only a few minutes (meaning about 15-20). Alternatively, you can just make a note in the Wrap Up about the change in the fight (a few sentences) and then send the PM to pitlords. Macbrea and I can figure up the fight rewards and stuff, and you can edit the fight later when you have time. TM |
| Krytos12-12-06, 10:35 PM | After actually reading over what needed to be changed instead of my gut reaction to the word change, I went ahead and fixed it up. PM to pitlord about the reversal is on its way as well. |

| Hirumajoe12-12-06, 10:56 PM | Any sign of Gonbow? The Terek/Maglu fight is missing.... This post might explain that. Apparently his classes finished for the semester and he's visiting a location without internet access... |
| MitzaVolchenko12-12-06, 11:04 PM | @My MQ'ers I need clarifications or I will have to improv entirely. I will check on more time tonight, but beyond that you are going to be pushing the ability to update before pairings. |
| Macbrea12-13-06, 08:24 AM | I still feel I should have been in a prone position during that fight even if on the top of the water. Under no circumstance did I want to be standing up. My AC should have been 10 + 3 dex + 1 defection + 8 cover + 4 prone = 26. That changes the fight extremely. Characters swimming, floating, or treading water on the surface, or wading in water at least chest deep, have improved cover (+8 bonus to AC, +4 bonus on Reflex saves) from opponents on land. Nothing prevented the character from laying prone in the water on the surface. By not following my tactics of staying prone even if it wasn't on the bottom you just determined I might as well charged my opponent and went to hand to hand. |
| Macbrea12-13-06, 08:38 AM | Bah. I will just take it as a loss. I guess I need to be clearer on my tactics next time. |
| MitzaVolchenko12-13-06, 09:19 AM | Bah. I will just take it as a loss. I guess I need to be clearer on my tactics next time. I would let it hold over and activate another character instead. Prone is prone. |
| McJarvis12-13-06, 10:10 AM | I still feel I should have been in a prone position during that fight even if on the top of the water. Prone: Lying on the ground. Floating on top of the water is NOT lying on the ground. |
| MitzaVolchenko12-13-06, 10:16 AM | Rules say you can float prone on water. Cover applies. AC bonus applies. Standing up and saying 'hey shoot me' is a pretty dramatic violation of tactics both as written and in spirit. |
| McJarvis12-13-06, 10:24 AM | Rules say you can float prone on water. Where? |
| TheMagister12-13-06, 06:35 PM | I would like to point out (from a logical and NOT RAW perspective) that a person who is standing vertically in 5' of water and leaves only his head showing is a MUCH smaller target than someone who is floating on the surface. Just an observation. +12 to AC is pretty hefty. |
