| waywreth02-01-06, 02:36 PM | Good afternoon all. This is the thread to discuss this week's fights. Usual rules apply (play nice or else...). The rules of Gladius can be found here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=448520). Please take note of the Community Vote (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=552366) thread. Not only is it a place to voice your vote on a particular subject (that has been initiated by Cerebus), it is also a great resource for frequently asked questions. Perhaps even better to note is the Ask an Elder (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=569305) thread. This initiative by LLMadCow (ye grand master of Size 7...) has already produced some worthwhile rulings. The deadline is in about 45 minutes - so finish up! |
| TroubleWolf02-01-06, 03:03 PM | Today is February 1, not February 2. Are pairings being posted today or tomorrow? |
| waywreth02-01-06, 03:11 PM | Today is February 1, not February 2. Are pairings being posted today or tomorrow? Today. I've been trying to fix the headline but the boards have been up and down for me the last 30 min or so. |
| TroubleWolf02-01-06, 03:19 PM | Today. I've been trying to fix the headline but the boards have been up and down for me the last 30 min or so. No problem, I was just wondering. I think last week they went up on Thursday, so I wanted to confirm this week's schedule. |
| TelinArtho02-01-06, 04:06 PM | @My new questors: (NiQil (x4), TheMagister, Snommelp, Myrridin, shadowmaster and Zevox) - I'll get the quests up as soon as I can. My schedule got a little screwed today - so they will be later than I planned. @My current questors (Luni, Huan, King Uther and lonewolf) - we'll get caught up - don't you worry! Busy week for me - so be patient. |
| TheMagister02-01-06, 04:09 PM | Some roleplay opportunity for Snommelp and Myrridin and whoever owns Lissa Longfellow in the WAR guildhall. Any other WAR members are of course welcome to stop by and see Sdentch and Grik and newcomer Morgan off into the wild green yonder. TM |
| SoulLord02-01-06, 04:09 PM | Deadline yet? |
| Zevox02-01-06, 04:12 PM | Deadline yet? Yup, deadline hit about 18 minutes ago by my clock. Zevox |
| SoulLord02-01-06, 04:53 PM | Yikes not sure But it seems the server registered Vandelars last update some minutes after the deadline oh well perhaps the pitlords will be merciful and allow him to participate thisv week |
| Snommelp02-01-06, 05:57 PM | Any guesses (guesses because who can know for sure?) on when the ECL 11 league will open? I have the credits, and a character chomping at the bit to get in on the action. |
| Macbrea02-01-06, 06:06 PM | My guess would be that league 10 will open up when there is either 20 gladiators in the league or 12 different players in the league. That would be a point in which could easily justify opening up that league. |
| MysticMonk200502-01-06, 06:18 PM | I duno, I've been waiting for 11th level since Living Gladius started. My main character is sitting there. But my guess is that Lissa is guna end up frozen for atleast alittle bit. |
| DTFarstar02-01-06, 06:20 PM | If Murtagh works as well as I think he will questing and in the arena(in a couple of weeks when I finish buying all his eq) it won't be too long before he gets to ECL 10. Now that I think on it... maybe I should have started him lower to get more play out of the credits I spent on him. Eh, I wanted a high level character. I hope he does as well as I think he will. My biggest fear in the ECL 8 League, from what I can see, is Dameon Leone. He has HUGE saves. |
| MindWandererB02-01-06, 06:20 PM | I can't tell why the ECL 10 league is frozen but the ECL 9 is open, when there are more characters in ECL 10. If Pittbull activated all three of his ECL 10 characters and Cat activated both of his, that league would probably open immediately. But basically, I think you'll have to wait until either more ECL 11 characters are created, or Hagrid and some of the ECL 9 characters work their way up there, which, if they fight every week, will happen in a couple of months. |
| Pittbull02-01-06, 06:28 PM | I can't give you any official information, but I think, Cat will wait for a certain number of Gladiators to arrive in League 10, he has said at least sixteen. Then the iron-man tournament should start. |
| kedi02-01-06, 06:39 PM | @Pitlords: Secropiagor is active this week, I believe I've tagged him before deadline, but he seems inactive on the list. Thanks in advance. |
| Zevox02-01-06, 06:45 PM | Pairings are up. Er... any chance I can request to have my assignment changed? I'm assigned to run a miniquest, and I had thought that only those who specifically say they want to run miniquests were assigned such. Zevox |
| Usurpator02-01-06, 06:45 PM | If Murtagh works as well as I think he will questing and in the arena(in a couple of weeks when I finish buying all his eq) it won't be too long before he gets to ECL 10. Just wait until Nexa gets into the ECL 8 League, her saves are will be in the order of +11/+12/+15(+17), almost equal to Daemon's, with better offense and better spellcasting to boot. |
| Maraxus02-01-06, 06:47 PM | Looks like we can expect a lot of monster fights this week. :) And Cat rolled some good numbers (90+ four times), I guess this time, the poor critters might get some chance. Edit: And the pairings are up. - Looks like I have to correct myself. I don't jet read that rolls that good. :) |
| SauroGrenom02-01-06, 06:51 PM | Looks like we can expect a lot of monster fights this week. :) And Cat rolled some good numbers (90+ four times), I guess this time, the poor critters might get some chance. Some of those rolls are from last weeks parrings. Only 5 monster rolls and one was above 90 so far for this weeks parings. |
| MindWandererB02-01-06, 06:53 PM | Sunstroke is scheduled to fight Anton Fael for the second time in two weeks. That's not supposed to happen, especially since both of them have only been in two fights so far. Pitlords has been PM'ed. |
| kedi02-01-06, 07:04 PM | O-hay... I've missed pairings. Joy. :P @Mitza, Wolf: Please get your tactics as soon as possible. I don't think I'll be available on Sunday due to tournament, and I really don't want to finish it on Monday, last minute. I'd really appreciate early tactics. |
| Pitlords02-01-06, 07:29 PM | PAIRINGS DONE (almost) Problem is that we don't have enough Pitlords. Mizta and Telin are set to max but I cannot give them the whole roster. So if anyone wants to run a high level fight, please tell me. Oh and I've used the Pairings Roller so rematches might happen. News and Annoncements: Scrolls: Scribing scrolls, imprinting stones, and similar things are Free Activities just like any crafting is. However, since scrolls come in larger stacks than fullplates, I can see the problem with linking each one of them. So instead, you should make a new header called "Free Activities" somewhere on your sheet where you enlist the scrolls you want to craft. The Pitlord then adds this to the fight summary. This is a very good compromise that helps auditors. All previously crafted scrolls gain an amnesy as it is a hell of work to tag every scroll on every character. Online Roller: Another important change that is going to come is the Online Roller being mandatory. It must be used in Quests, Miniquests, Campaigns, Seperate thread fights, and even on other boards so I see no reason not to use it. The free use of your own dice is a remnant from the Classic Coco that was more a club of some 20 guys that wanted to have fun and nothing else. It would be cool if you would use it this week but from next week on, you have to use it. Map Credits: One credit for using maps is too much. I've assigned almost as many map credits as fight credits. NiQil and I have agreed that it should be 0.1° per map, and it will be listed in the prison. Once you have 1.0 credits, NiQil will send me a PM and inform me. There might be some more sophsticated rules on that which will be posted by NiQil soon. NPC Crafting: This has always been forbidden in the coco. It is a houserule but an important one that keeps the balance. Unlike in a real campaign, you could switch your cohorts with nothing but a miniquest to craft different items. The same is true for the NPC Service which gives you access to every spell. This special and unreal but indispensible situation forces us to restrict crafting in other ways. Once someone gives me a good proposal on how to restrict access to items we can talk about that again. Iron Man Tournament: Some asked about the ECL 10 league and when it will open again. The answer is simple: when we have enough gladiators to support 15 levels (ECL 15 next stop). We gain new members weekly although that rate could improve a bit more if you ask me. I'd like to see at least 10-15 PCs per league. The second reason for freezing lvl 10 is the upcoming Iron Man Tournament. It is still some time away but here are some spoilers: The Iron Man Tournament has 32 characters. The first three rounds (16 pairings, 8 pairings, 4 pairings) will be without the 1/3 rule but also without rest. The Semi-Final and the Final will be fought normally but in a Seperate thread for everyone to see. The Winner is awared a Custom Avatar. I am aware that 32 character in league 10 is a long way to go so I thought about it. The solution comes in form of our soon coming Add-On about Inter-League fights. Once we have found an appropriate combination of Inter-League matches (perhaps 2xECL+0 vs 1xECL+2) we can say the first 20 characters in the tournament come from the ECL 10 league, and the remaining 12 are made up of teams of 2 or 3 with lower ECLs. We will discuss that on time. New Elder in da House: Finally but most importantly, I am glad to announce that the Core Coliseum has a new Elder in Tellish's stead. I had 4 candidates and it wasn't easy but after a discussion with every Elder (except Tok) we all agreed that this place is best filled with... Luni. She has shown a perfect mix of good participation and presence, reliable work, and a friendly and helpful demenour. Please stand up for the first female Elder in the Core Coliseum! I've sent a mail to WizO Paradox since I cannot edit your titles. Might take some time though. Okay, let's see what we can do about those fights... Please wait with sending tactics for I might have to move some pitlords around! |
| bgt02-01-06, 07:32 PM | I'm in need of credits, so I guess I will. I'm not the best pitlord, however, so if anyone is looking to take my place, they're more than welcome to it. |
| Pitlords02-01-06, 07:33 PM | Sunstroke is scheduled to fight Anton Fael for the second time in two weeks. That's not supposed to happen, especially since both of them have only been in two fights so far. Pitlords has been PM'ed. Here we go: Sunstroke (MindWandererB) vs. Weiniete Windershins (Skojar) : DTFarstar Emon Thrin (Kaigan) vs. Anton Fael (TelinArtho) : Malither76 |
| Zevox02-01-06, 07:36 PM | I'd be willing to Pitlord a higher-level fight, but only if someone can take the miniquest I got assigned off my hands. I'm afraid I don't have time between having one of my characters on a quest this week and all the schoolwork and actual work I have to do to design and run a quest (mini or not). Zevox |
| kedi02-01-06, 07:37 PM | Get me for Lissa&Daemon fight, granted I'll get the tactics by friday tops... Also, congratulations Luni. |
| bgt02-01-06, 07:39 PM | I'd be willing to Pitlord a higher-level fight, but only if someone can take the miniquest I got assigned off my hands. I'm afraid I don't have time between having one of my characters on a quest this week and all the schoolwork and actual work I have to do to design and run a quest (mini or not). Zevox What's involved in the miniquest? |
| Zevox02-01-06, 07:43 PM | What's involved in the miniquest? Feradeth Dryearraheal (Kaigan) miniquests to join the CEF: Zevox [Miniquest] Thats all there is about it - it was apparently assigned to me randomly. I had thought that only those who signed up to be questlords (not pitlords) got assigned miniquests, but I guess I was wrong. Zevox |
| Snommelp02-01-06, 07:44 PM | Tactics have been sent, and miniquests will be up soon. But first: what's involved with getting training to be a warmind? Anything specific that I need to put into the quest? |
| DTFarstar02-01-06, 07:44 PM | @ Pitlords - The two fights I've been assigned look fairly straightforward as long as Sunstroke vs. Weinite doesn't turn into a sniping match, so toss me a high level fight and I'll take care of it. Hopefully with little or no complaining(my part or the players), but we'll see. Edit : Preferably non-monster, but if that is what's needed that is ok. |
| Macbrea02-01-06, 07:51 PM | Go ahead and give me the: Rayos Atess (Kaigan) vs. 4 Ghasts and 7 Ghouls : XXXXX [Monster] |
| bgt02-01-06, 07:51 PM | Zevox, I will take your miniquest. |
| Pitlords02-01-06, 07:54 PM | Zevox has a regular fight, so the miniquest of Feradeth is open again. lonewolf has been moved up while I gave bgt lonewolf's old fight. I have dissolved Ixenthor's miniquest to pair him instead of Baelin's monsters which saves another pitlord slot. I run Rayos monster fight but that's really all I can do that week. Still available is: Vandelar the Red (SoulLord) vs. Talari Leafwhisperer (Luni) : XXXXX Murtagh Deegan (DTFarstar) vs. Noko (Maraxus) : XXXXX EDIT: Feradeth Dryearraheal (Kaigan) miniquests to join the CEF: bgt [Miniquest] @bgt: You have now the miniquest and a regular fight. |
| Zevox02-01-06, 07:57 PM | Zevox, I will take your miniquest. Great :) . Looks like Pitlords has already moved me to doing an upper-level match, so that should be all set once he sees you post. @ Iced and Sindorin - if you two can get me tactics by friday, I can probably run your fight then. If not, we're looking at sunday or monday most likely, depending on my work schedule next week. @ DSugui - Tactics for Aldyrr should be forthcoming either tonight or tomorrow afternoon. Zevox |
| DTFarstar02-01-06, 08:00 PM | Well, I would take my own fight but.... I don't think that is allowed, so I'll take Vandelar the Red vs. Talari Leafwhisper |
| kedi02-01-06, 08:02 PM | I wanted Lissa & Dameon... Oh well, get me the Murtagh Deegan (DTFarstar) vs. Noko (Maraxus). |
| DTFarstar02-01-06, 08:03 PM | I will go ahead and stress this, that I'm going to end up with 4 fights, 2 of which are high level so players PLEASE get tactics to me ASAP so I can go ahead and run the fights whenever I have time. |
| bgt02-01-06, 08:04 PM | EDIT: Feradeth Dryearraheal (Kaigan) miniquests to join the CEF: bgt [Miniquest] @bgt: You have now the miniquest and a regular fight. Ok. CEF is The Celestial Forces, right? Edit: Yes it is. |
| Pitlords02-01-06, 08:04 PM | And the last one: Vandelar the Red (SoulLord) vs. Talari Leafwhisperer (Luni) : XXXXX |
| Zevox02-01-06, 08:06 PM | Ok. CEF is The Celestial Forces, right? Yep. Zevox |
| kedi02-01-06, 08:06 PM | And the last one: Vandelar the Red (SoulLord) vs. Talari Leafwhisperer (Luni) : XXXXXWell, I would take my own fight but.... I don't think that is allowed, so I'll take Vandelar the Red vs. Talari Leafwhisper ;) |
| Pitlords02-01-06, 08:08 PM | @DTF: Can you please confirm that: Sunstroke (MindWandererB) vs. Weiniete Windershins (Skojar) : DTFarstar Gorak (Macbrea) vs. Jonathon (Abyssal Stalker) : DTFarstar Dameon Leonne (Huan) vs. Lissa (MysticMonk2005) : DTFarstar Vandelar the Red (SoulLord) vs. Talari Leafwhisperer (Luni) : XXXXX => DTFarstar EDIT: Kosher Mcbaggs (J3W) vs Dronnar Darkjof (DSugui) : Skojar |
| kedi02-01-06, 08:15 PM | @Mitza, TroubleWolf, DTFarstar, Maraxus: Please send me tactics as soon as possible so I can finish them early. Thanks in advance. |
| DTFarstar02-01-06, 08:46 PM | If someone else can get the fight, any of them, even the low level ones, I wouldn't mind just having 3, but if no one steps up to claim then yes, I will take all 4, including the 2 high ones. Tactics are being made as we speak, kedi, and I've already sent my other tactics to lonewolf. |
| Snommelp02-01-06, 08:50 PM | Sour Grapes (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=579420) is up for Santos and A Mind at War (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=579433) is up for Donak. |
| Pitlords02-01-06, 08:51 PM | I forgot that Monsters are not automatically identified from now on. Since you can see what I roll on the online roller, and I don't want to use my own dice when I just announced the opposite, I (with the help of Macbrea) came up with the idea that I write "Unknown Monster" and the Pitlord rolls it. He then checks the knowledge skills of the character and sends him as many information as is appropriate for that value in knowledge. See FAQ: Skills for more information on knowledge. |
| Zevox02-01-06, 09:16 PM | @ DSugui - Tactics for Aldyrr PMed. @ Iced - Tactics for Validi recieved, thank you for the promptness. @ Sindorin - Awaiting tactics from Aranor. Any time before friday is best. Zevox |
| Sindorin02-01-06, 09:21 PM | @ DSugui - Tactics for Aldyrr PMed. @ Iced - Tactics for Validi recieved, thank you for the promptness. @ Sindorin - Awaiting tactics from Aranor. Any time before friday is best. Zevox Tactics sent! |
| MindWandererB02-01-06, 09:29 PM | @DTFarstar: Tactics sent. Let's see if Sunstroke is worth anything at all. @Macbrea Papapeperoni: Tactics sent. Sorry about all the contingencies. Druids, y'know. Edit: Whoops! Pitlord got switched around after I wrote tactics (I wrote tactics before the big "Please wait with sending tactics" post went up). Sorry, Macbrea, didn't mean to confuse you. |
| Zevox02-01-06, 09:36 PM | Tactics sent! And recieved, thank you very much. A question regarding them has also been PMed. Once its answered, I should be good to run the fight come friday. Zevox |
| MitzaVolchenko02-01-06, 09:40 PM | ECL5 Leif Goldeneye (Sunwolf) vs Tatyana Malvont (Gonbow) vs Ch'ch'ili (Begferdeth): MitzaVolchenko [All vs All] [Week 2] I will get this mess out of the way by Friday. I rquest that problems be PM'd to me. I am not going to wade through a nine page debate in the FotW thread for why the contingencies were used thusly...please confine any comments or concerns to mechanics or direct tactical violations against a clearly written tactic. Ivangar (Turin) vs. Thwap McSmash (Warclone) : MitzaVolchenko ECL4 Ural (TelinArtho) => Histal (waywreth) => Uilo (Dracazar) : MitzaVolchenko [Hunter] This may be another long one, please get me your tactics as soon as possible. Please remember that this is a HUNTER fight, not an FFA. Karen Douglas (Lonewolf) miniquests for Talraiic texts: MitzaVolchenko [Miniquest] This is not an MQ. It is an ongoing full Quest. ECL3 Elzar the Amiable (Biota) miniquests for a worg ally: MitzaVolchenko [Miniquest]Biota, please send me a PM with what EL you want this set at. |
| Macbrea02-01-06, 09:45 PM | @Dracazzar: Your set up for Cher fight against Unknown Monster can be found Here @Kaigan: Your set up for Rayos Atess vs Unknown Monster can be found Here. Send tactics when your ready to face your target. |
| Iced02-01-06, 09:55 PM | Galagith's Tactics PM'd to Lonewolf Validi's Tactics PM'd to Zevox Quest for Kedi is up. |
| DTFarstar02-01-06, 10:04 PM | ECL 9 : Vandelar the Red (SoulLord) vs. Talari Leafwhisperer (Luni) :Tactics ASAP, I'm going to scramble and try to run everything Saturday and Sunday, but I may have free time tommorrow and Friday too, so as soon as possible ECL 8 : Dameon Leonne (Huan) vs. Lissa (MysticMonk2005) : Again, please, as soon as possible. I never know how long these higher level fights will take. ECL 4 : Gorak (Macbrea) vs. Jonathon (Abyssal Stalker) : DTFarstar : ASAP, though I hope this to be a straightforward fight. ECL 3 : Sunstroke (MindWandererB) vs. Weiniete Windershins (Skojar) : Get me the tactics soon, and I just hope this doesn't devolve( or start) into a sniper match. @ All My Players : Tactics soon, please format well, please make them inclusive. Don't expect adjudication from your tactics unless they completely break-down and then I will probably only play your character at average intelligence and wisdom because to do so otherwise would be unfair to your opponent. If there is a RAW mistake, I would appreciate a PM'd link to the problems to make sure I don't miss them. As evidence by my conversation with Dracazar earlier, I am willing to explain myself and talk about things, but I am generally pretty thorough in my opinions when I have to adjudicate unclear things. -Chris |
| lonewolf02-01-06, 10:08 PM | Its a bit late to offer to take another fight, is it? Well, if anyone feels overwhelmed just pm me the tactics and I will take it. Since Im not going to get many map credits anymore I need to finance that ghost template somehow. |
| Sindorin02-01-06, 10:26 PM | @Zevox: Response to tactical stupidity sent. sigh |
| TroubleWolf02-01-06, 10:37 PM | @kedi: Tactis sent for Rokk Ohn. Hope it was quick enough. Sorry they're so long! @Altaris13: Tactics for Sven Dragonsson sent. Again, sorry for the length. @MitzaVolchenko & lucanthrope: Good luck this week, both of you! I hope our fights go smoothly, with no errors, and that we are all satisfied with the outcomes. |
| Macbrea02-01-06, 10:51 PM | ECL 4 : Gorak (Macbrea) vs. Jonathon (Abyssal Stalker) : DTFarstar : ASAP, though I hope this to be a straightforward fight. The mighty Gorak's Tactics have been sent! |
| Macbrea02-01-06, 11:11 PM | @Telin: I am hoping Lord Frost horridly complicated tactics sent your way. |
| TelinArtho02-01-06, 11:31 PM | Haven't checked the pairings yet. I'm still setting up all my quests/miniquests - which will be up before I retire for the night. I will be sending all of my tactics tomorrow morning (EST). Also - my PM box is quickly approaching full. If it reaches that level - send via email to startstealer@comcast.net |
| MitzaVolchenko02-02-06, 12:34 AM | @Iced tactics for Sliver vs. TFH sent via PM @Warclone *sighs* 3 out of 5 fights as FFA's for Zwei...I hate FFA's! I'll look everyone over and get tactics to you tomorrow. I expect a loss, but I'll see what I can some up with. @kedi I updated Sybil in a hurry and still lack several key Elder answers, but I will finalize some semblance of tatics and send them your way tomorrow. |
| TelinArtho02-02-06, 12:52 AM | Just got a quick glance at pairings. Sir Valkin is paired up with Boraxx again? Two weeks in a row? Well - I guess I'll have to hope I can plan something better this time... Also - all of my quests are up - they will be going along as quickly as I can get stuff written. |
| Erithmu02-02-06, 01:05 AM | @Turin: Tactics for Selene sent via PM @all: I have a campaign that I am starting up, and still taking some applicants. If you have any questions feel free to PM me. there are about 3 posts in the tavern for a brief introduction. @Kedi: I got your PM, Wednesday is just my busy day, I'll PM you back in the morning. |
| MindWandererB02-02-06, 01:07 AM | Just got a quick glance at pairings. Sir Valkin is paired up with Boraxx again? Two weeks in a row? Well - I guess I'll have to hope I can plan something better this time...If you bring this to Pitlords' attention in a timely manner, it could get corrected. Same thing happened to my Sunstroke this week. |
| King Uther02-02-06, 02:17 AM | @lonewolf Tactics for Haizan sent via PM. @bgt Tactics for Alagar, son of Angosh sent via PM. Good luck to both opponents. |

| Pittbull02-02-06, 02:55 AM | @Huan: Tactic has been sent. |
| Maraxus02-02-06, 03:33 AM | Hey, it almost looks, like you're avoiding the faery, if you have the choise ... I don't mind, against that opponent, I had almost written the dm-unpleasing-est tactic for a long time. ...However: innovative tactic for Noko sent to kedi. Tactic for Zassl will come that afternoon, but probably not be that innovative. ;) |
| kedi02-02-06, 03:51 AM | @Maraxus: Tactics recieved for Noko. Thank you. @DTFarstar: Tactics recieved for Murtagh. Thank you. @TroubleWolf: Tactics recieved for Rokk Ohn; better long and well thought-out then poorly done. Thank you. @Mitza: Alright, I'll be waiting. @Erithmu: Alright, no worries. |

| bgt02-02-06, 06:52 AM | @King Uther-Tactics received. |
| DSugui02-02-06, 07:16 AM | @ DSugui - Tactics for Aldyrr PMed. Tatics recieved. @ Skojar: Tatics for Dronnar sent by e-mail. |
| Pitlords02-02-06, 07:29 AM | Credit Changes: +11: TelinArtho +10: MitzaVolchenko +5: Huan, Iced +4: Caterane, DTFarstar +2: bgt, Altaris, Macbrea, Vathelokai, Warclone, Book5 +1: Ayrynthyn, Begferdeth, Biota, DSugui, Gonbow, Kedi, Luni, Malither, Papapeperoni, Pittbull, Sauro, Snommelp, Turin, Sindorin +0: Shadowmaster, Skojar, Usurpator, Zevox, Erithmu, NiQil -1: Kaigan, Lonewolf, Magister, Myrridin -2: DrFunk, KingUther, Dracazar If you want to know your individual breakdown, PM me. Note that Map Credits will be assigned at a later point when you have accumulated 1.0° and NiQil sends it to me. |
| Dracazar02-02-06, 08:30 AM | Scrolls: Scribing scrolls, imprinting stones, and similar things are Free Activities just like any crafting is. Is it ok the "Free Activities" in the tactic to the pitlord? So all scrolls pre 1st February got amensty, If so violations in prison should be fixed? Online Roller: Another important change that is going to come is the Online Roller being mandatory. It must be used in Quests, Miniquests, Campaigns, Seperate thread fights, and even on other boards so I see no reason not to use it. The free use of your own dice is a remnant from the Classic Coco that was more a club of some 20 guys that wanted to have fun and nothing else. It would be cool if you would use it this week but from next week on, you have to use it. This sounds really good! I'll try to speed up the coding of our CoCo dice roller. This sounds really bad! I think that 1 credit to 0.1 credit is too drastic! Maps are really great improvements to fights, and 0.1 credit is really too cheap, nobody will use maps anymore. Also I feel a lot responsible of this change because my coco.php map script and the map tag generator speeds up the development of maps but with this change your really give me opposite effect because I did the coco.php to help and incentive people use maps, and now this rule lower this effect with a *10 factor! I'm really sad of this decision. :( |
| Pittbull02-02-06, 08:38 AM | @Drac: I would use your programm, even if I don't get any credit. I love it. If you ever come to Bavaria, you'll be invited for a big glas of beer (A Maß = 1litre) and a pizza! ;) :pint: |
| Pitlords02-02-06, 08:45 AM | @Drac: It's 0.1 per map. So if you use your mapmaker to create 10 maps in one fight, you get a credit. It should be capped to 1° though. Niqil has also proposed a flat 0.5° for a single self-made map that shows the whole fight. The specifics will be fleshed out be me and NiQil in the coming days but you see it's not that much a drastic change. |
| waywreth02-02-06, 08:46 AM | @MitzaVolchenko - Tactics for Histal in ECL4 Hunter match *gag* have been sent. |

I have no problem with it being in this manner. |
| Dracazar02-02-06, 09:43 AM | @Macbrea: Cher's tactic sent @Shadowmaster: Drac's tactic sent @MitzaVolchenko: Uilo's tactic sent @Luni: Shaz Greatheart's tactic sent @Pittbull: Thanks for the beer! But come to me for pizza, I'm from Napoli (pizza's birthplace) @Pitlors: "It's 0.1 per map. So if you use your mapmaker to create 10 maps in one fight, you get a credit. It should be capped to 1° though". Ok! I didn't ack this. |
| Usurpator02-02-06, 10:21 AM | I have a much better idea for the map credits. I can tell you that for me 0.1 credit for a map is no a incentive at all (and I think many will agree). Even with Drac's the map tool available, many Pitlord's still don't use it, so 1 credit is not such a big incentive that everyone jumps on it. My proposal: The Map Lottery Everyone who makes a map, gets one share in the weekly 'map lottery'. After the week's fights are done NiQil randomly determines the winner of the map lottery, and the lucky person gets all the map credits for that week (rounded up). That continues to make map credits a tangible incentive and requires less bookkeeping than the current proposal. Besides, people like the idea of having a shot at winning a big pile of credits for only a small effort like adding the map. Still, even with the map lottery, I think we need to raise the credits to 0.2 per mapped fight. I think there maybe like 20 fights with map posted each week. That means just 2 credits to the lucky winner. EDIT: did people get 1 credit for each map in a fight! No wonder map credits were getting out of hand! I always thought that Pitlords got 1 credit for adding one or more maps to their fight. So always max. 1 map credit per fight. If I had known this, I surely could/would have saved a map for many intermediary rounds in my fights, since that would be hardly any extra effort for me.... (but I would have lodged a protest as well, since that way earning credits gets WAY too easy). If there is such a thing as a 'per-map-credit-rule' it should be ditched immediately and changed into a 'one-or-more-maps-per-fight-credit-rule' Still can't believe people were getting 5 credits for posting 5 automated maps.... Just boggles the mind |
| Zevox02-02-06, 10:24 AM | I can tell you that for me 0.1 credit for a map is no a incentive at all (and I think many will agree). .1 per map is good enough for me - just means I need to hope the fight lasts 10 rounds so that I can get a full credit for using 10 maps. :D Zevox |
| Usurpator02-02-06, 10:30 AM | .1 per map is good enough for me - just means I need to hope the fight lasts 10 rounds so that I can get a full credit for using 10 maps. :D Zevox See above for my reply. If I had known about the 1-credit-per-map rule, I would be soaring high above 100 credits right now. I always assumed max. 1 map credit per fight, seemed the only sensible way.... Besides, I remember I got two whole credits for adding 6 maps in my very first fight here (as an exception) so I don't know where this rule suddenly came from. |
| Turin02-02-06, 10:48 AM | Don't worry, Usurpintor, it was only ever 1 credit for posting one or more maps in your fight. I was surprised it was that much when I first started pitlording a month or so ago, actually, considering the automated mapper was available. @Ayrynthyn: tactics sent for Dr. Hexacious Pogboomer @ MitzaVolchenko: tactics sent for Ivangar the Exile @ Erithmu: tactics received for Selene @ shadowmaster: eagerly awaiting your tactics and items Erithmu and you have been discussing re: his Prison post. |
| Begferdeth02-02-06, 10:59 AM | We *have* to use the online rollers now? Crap. It was so much easier to just roll the dice than to go and click through 2 pages every attack. | Snommelp02-02-06, 11:16 AM | I agree with Begferdeth. And not only is it easier to use my own dice, it also allows me to run my fights even when I don't have access for some reason or another to the online roller (because their server is down, or because my server is down, or any other of a number of reasons). My prediction is that this move will increase the number of late fights, especially if the online roller's server is down for a long period of time (as has happened before). |
| Usurpator02-02-06, 11:19 AM | We *have* to use the online rollers now? Crap. It was so much easier to just roll the dice than to go and click through 2 pages every attack. Are you all that worried about cheating? I have no idea. The reason given was 'I see no reason not to use it', which isn't a reason at all, since if that was true, everybody would be using it already. Anyway, I am seriously considering retiring from Pitlording with those new unasked for demands in place. With the constant influx of new rules (part of which I consider good, part bad, but more important, I consider most of them unneccessary), I am considering toning down my presence here as well. I mean, I like the CoCo, but I don't like constant add-on's and development. My 'optimized builts' might not even get to ECL 10 because the rules changes might cause them from going from good builds to mediocre builds at best. In my opinion rules changes should address issues that a large part of the community feels are neccessary. I never heard *anyone* ask for new uses for skills, from what I have gathered everyone was more or less fine with open locks in the arena, but the new rules became reality anyway. I cannot optimize either builds or tactics with constant rules changes going on. |

My head hurts every time I look at that fight's tactics, and I still have to look up every psionic ability every time I use it which turns that fight into a ten hour nightmare without my wounded south paw. I've had one request that I use the online roller, but other than that all my fights have been done with my dice and with no commentary on them thereof. Personally, I don't like the online rollers as you generally need to go back and forth between 2-3 pages to generate numbers, get the links to them then roll more dice. The exception that I've seen is the one on the wizards page, which shows the results and allows you to keep rolling immediately, but that one doesn't save rolls for linking. I'll give using the online rollers a shot, but my time is precious as I'm in college and I need to study, post on the various RP I'm doing, write tactics/etc. I really don't think this should be mandatory, but mmkay. Again, my apologizes for my convoluted tactics. If I had spent more time on them they would have been cleaner and nicer, but I wanted to get them off to you as quickly as possible so the fight could be completed (I know these fights usually take awhile to run, so the sooner you can start, the sooner you get done..). My mistake. |
| TelinArtho02-02-06, 11:51 AM | I have sent tactics for Anton and Anakala. I tried sending tactics to Altaris13, but his PM box is full. Also, of more importance, he said he was leaving the community (for unknown personal reasons) a couple of weeks ago - and checking his profile has confirmed he has not been online since 1/19. I've PMed Pitlords to see if his assignment as pitlord was a mistake. I'm working on the rest presently - so bear with me - and then I'll be going to my quests to get them continuing... |
| Dracazar02-02-06, 11:55 AM | @All that don't like online rollers : Write here the online roller that you desire, perhaps a noble Djinni will hear you and grant your desire :) @Gonbow: Please give me a link to the roller you speak of. |
| Gonbow02-02-06, 12:01 PM | @All that don't like online rollers : Write here the online roller that you desire, perhaps a noble Djinni will hear you and grant your desire :) @Gonbow: Please give me a link to the roller you speak of. Which one? Wizards or Invisible castle? The wizards roller is at http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/welcome ; You just click on the d20 on the left side of the screen and it pops up. The invisible castle roller is at http://invisiblecastle.com/rolldice.py The perfect dice roller? Have the interface for rolling dice on the same page as the results and a linkable html address for the saved roll. So all you do is click, write in modifiers (if you do that on the rolls, I won't, just straight rolls and add the modifiers in the fight), click again to roll, click to copy the html, then switch into your word proccessor/fight html screen and write it up with the html. And that is still a noticably larger amount of work than just rolling an actual die. <shrugs> |
| MitzaVolchenko02-02-06, 12:16 PM | @ Hunters all tactics now received. I will get the Hunter fight up today if at all possible. @Everyone again, plase remember that the pitlords are working overtime this week. I'll getmy things up as quickly as I can, and I'll try to get my quests run through as far as possible today and tomorrow. |
| Usurpator02-02-06, 12:22 PM | @All that don't like online rollers : Write here the online roller that you desire, perhaps a noble Djinni will hear you and grant your desire :) @Gonbow: Please give me a link to the roller you speak of. I would like an online roller that rolls as quickly as my own dice. ;) My biggest issues with online rollers are - Slow: I can have rolled ten attacks by the time I have generated one attack with an online roller. - Repeat work: I have to type each attack in my written report, and repeat it in the roller - Poor editability: I often forget a roll and catch it a little later. With an online roller this is a major hassle to add. You have to add extra comments so that those who watch it don't get confused. My only interest in looking at Pitlord's who use dice rollers is checking if they added modifiers correctly, but if a Pitlord includes the roll (and the modifiers) in his report, I really don't care if he uses online rollers. When I pitlord I might write: "Uilo strikes with his flame blade (attack: [15]+6 = 21 vs. AC 18, hit for [4]+2 = 6 damage) and carves a smoking scar into Feradeth." The writing and rolling of this costs me about 30 seconds. Then I think: "ohhh, I forgot flanking..." and barely 3 seconds later I have edited the sentence. Using an online roller this would take me about 2 minutes, and would not allow the edit. That's four times as much time to do, and less flexibility to boot. But since the only reason mentioned to make online rollers required was 'I see no reason not to', and I just cited several reason why this is not true, can those who want online rollers give me any arguments in favor using them (that is valid for my situation). What I would rather like is that the time some Pitlords spent entering things into the online roller, they rather spent in looking up rules and rereading my tactics. Every minute spent with the online roller means a minute less time available for reading my tactics. |
| Usurpator02-02-06, 12:26 PM | @All Pitlords who link rolls: I appreciate the effort, but not it is absolutely not neccessary for me. If you can save time by not linking rolls, please do so! I want to look at your rolls for math errors and misapplication of the rules, I don't want to check your rolls for fairness. In the unlikely event I ever suspect you are cheating, I will do a Chi-square on your fights and post the results. |
| Mal-202-02-06, 12:44 PM | @All Pitlords who link rolls: I appreciate the effort, but not it is absolutely not neccessary for me. If you can save time by not linking rolls, please do so! I want to look at your rolls for math errors and misapplication of the rules, I don't want to check your rolls for fairness. I agree. I think a link to the "character" you're using on Invisible Castle, or some other easy way to find all the rolls associated with the fight is fine. When I'm looking over the rolls, that's where I go anyway, because I don't want to click through the Wizards "You are now leaving our web site" page for every die roll. |
| Erithmu02-02-06, 01:11 PM | Don't worry, Usurpintor, it was only ever 1 credit for posting one or more maps in your fight. | TelinArtho02-02-06, 01:13 PM | While I don't care whether people use online rollers or not, I just want to bring up a small point: What I would rather like is that the time some Pitlords spent entering things into the online roller, they rather spent in looking up rules and rereading my tactics. Every minute spent with the online roller means a minute less time available for reading my tactics. The assumption is that rolling dice is always faster and more convenient. I do much of my work while at work (physically and during down time - of which I have plenty) or at home (when my young kids and dog are frequently around). Using real dice at work would kind-of tip off that I'm doing non-work stuff on occasion; using real dice at home has the unpleasant possibility of my children/dog ingesting, playing with and losing the few dice I have. In other words - online rollers are not the evil things that they are made out to be. I happen to agree that they should not be mandatory - but I do request that every person who does it with regular dice include the modifiers to each roll. Personally I use online rollers because they are more convenient to me - but I do not feel that their use should be mandatory for arena fights. |
| SoulLord02-02-06, 01:17 PM | ECL 9 : Vandelar the Red (SoulLord) vs. -Chris Tactics for Vandelar sent I tried to keep them simple |

| Macbrea02-02-06, 01:49 PM | On the Online roller issue. Personally, I used one because the clatter of dice in certian location gets you looked at very funny. IE. work. And since I have a system I used for running fights. that involved about 5 to 10 tabs in firefox. It isn't that bad of deal for me. Each person has their own strategy for running fights. |

I always assumed max. 1 map credit per fight, seemed the only sensible way.... There never was a 1-per-map rule before. It was that if you posted one or more maps anywhere in your fight, you got 1o. The per-map part is new to this system. Trust me, if it had been like that, I'd have a lot more than 7 credits to my name. Zevox |
| bgt02-02-06, 04:01 PM | I'm really sorry about this, but I'm probably not going to be able to run the high-level fight in time. I have a scouting activity this weekend I had forgotten about. I may only have enough time for the miniquest, unless I get tactics by tomorrow morning (10:00 GMT). |
| Turin02-02-06, 04:30 PM | Fleeid (Shadowmaster) vs Selene (Erithmu) (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8380035&postcount=159) is up. Looked pretty close there for a while, but one character managed to quickly tip the scales. Enjoy! |
| Usurpator02-02-06, 05:04 PM | @Luni & SauroGrenom: I received both your tactics, you will have the honor of being the last fight I will Pitlord for some time to come. The constant flow of new rules and regulations (some good, some bad, most unneccessary) is partially to blame for this. But the obligation to use online rollers was the last straw. I didn't Pitlord for the credits anyway, mostly for the fun, so I'll better quit before it isn't fun anymore. I am going to Pitlord more sharply than usual since a Ghost is involved in the fight. I think this will probably require some rulings about how effects and situations will play out. |
| klangley02-02-06, 06:43 PM | I just found this board and my very first character is excited to meet his opponent this week (where he will probably get his spiked chain wrapped around his scrawny neck). But despite being new here, I am a player and GM since 1976, and was eager to try pitlording once I know a bit more about the local scene. BUT...I hate online rollers. They are cumbersome and slow. So along with all the existing pitlords you may lose due to this ruling , from the sound of the comments, there is at least one potential new recruit who won't bother. Who decided this, and why did he/ she think it was so important? Was there any discussion or feedback? |
| Ariel2302-02-06, 06:47 PM | Is it too much to ask that if we're having die rollers be mandatory, could we get a better die roller? They are such a pain. I know someone is working on one, and I hope it's better. Are you all that worried about cheating? Just so you all realize, I can go to Invisible Castle and put in multiple fight names and keep rolling until I get the results I want, then only post a link to the fight with the outcome of my choice. If I wanted to do that. I've gotten destroyed by the online die roller in the past, I hope this rule was not promulgated because people thought it would help their gladiator's rolls. Also, if we can't trust each other in this community, we might as well disband it. For the most part, we all deal with the same people week in and week out. Why hold a grudge against someone doing their job, just because they do it in a different manner than you? Sooner or later, your positions will be reversed. Begferdeth--I'm so excited to be fighting Fjord. Yay! I hope it's a good fight. |

Past the first round of grappling, you only have Ivangar dealing 1d8 vs. 2d6 grapple damage. Ivan might eke out 10 more points of damage rolling better dice. Or he might not. TM |
| Erithmu02-03-06, 12:51 AM | Fleeid (Shadowmaster) vs Selene (Erithmu) (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8380035&postcount=159) is up. Looked pretty close there for a while, but one character managed to quickly tip the scales. Enjoy! Bummer, I had considered using electricity as well instead of fire. Even still I don't have enough to work through his rage hps. Well fought, and match conceded. |

(http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8384121&postcount=161) It is full of tactical goofs, but unless one of the gladiators involved wants a re-run or for me to add the concentration checks that would be the only thing missing had I not completely gotten more involved in the goofy images in my head than reading Jon's tactics, it stands as run...far funnier the way it is than if I go back and pare it down to the very few rounds it really should have been. |

Nope, I am good with the fight the way it was run. I knew I would pretty much loose to hold person in the end. As that is effectively a DC 16 will save for Gorak. So, unless, Jonathan really complains I am editing Gorak for this fight. Well, I am editing him anyways and he can except the win one way or another! | Argaud02-03-06, 08:49 AM | No kidding. He made every single will saving throw I threw at him  , and praying to Azuth didn't quite grant me enough luck to avoid that last crit (although it is nice to see that it had some effect, what with those high-damage hits landing while he missed for two rounds. I may need to have my characters do that more often ;) ). Not much for it when the dice are that against me. Thanks for running the fight, and for getting it up so early :) . Zevox Mad luck with the saves, indeed :D, not so good with the to hit rolls, although managed the important one (with the tanglefoot bag). Although honestly, the decisive save was against the Hold Person, with that spell out of the way Aldyrr had few chances of winning. Mental note: buy potions of Expeditious Retreat and more Tanglefoot bags! Nitpick notes: Korinel didn't need to base Aldyrr to use the tanglefoot bag, he could toss it at 20' with a very good chance of hitting (-2 for range, but +7 to hit vs touch AC12) in round 8 (for instance) and saving himself from some spiritual bashing. But if he had to base Aldyrr, he could have quickdrawn the shortsword to threaten, and prevent him from moving+casting without an AoO. Also Korinel's Favored Enemy: Humans gave him bonus to listen and damage that weren't taken in account (but really didn't matter at the end). All in all an interesting fight and good (and lucky) start for my gladiator career  |
| Turin02-03-06, 08:51 AM | Thanks Magister...Corrected and the popcorn wench had better have a healing potion or three in that bodice if she expects to get anywhere with Thwap ;) Fight got closer but end result remained the same. On a cold stone slab in the bowels of the arena, Ivangar's still body twitches and becomes animate once more, thanks to the blessing of the Nimbus. He groans as his lifts his bruised body from the slab. "Owwwwww..." Well, there goes Ivangar's undefeated record. :( Just one question, though... maybe I'm not understand the delay rules correctly, but by my understanding Ivangar shouldn't have been lit up because he was attempting to interact with his foe (i.e., closing to enter melee). And if anything, why wouldn't the delay penalty kick in at the beginning of the 11th round (thus presumably causing Ivangar to charge and catch Thwap before he shoots) rather than mid-round (thus exposing Ivangar to an unreplied attack that round)? Please don't take my question the wrong way... I'm looking for a clarification of your interpretation of the the rule rather than saying "hey, you're wrong!" :D Now, as it turns out, you made a minor error and didn't apply the damage from Thwap's second shot to Ivangar. So if you feel the delay penalty was properly applied and Thwap gets his shot, Thwap actually will bring down Ivangar earlier. If you don't think it was properly applied, Thwap doesn't get his shot and the fight just ends one round earlier. So I'm definitely not asking for a re-run here, because the result is the same either way... just looking for that clarification. |

All in all an interesting fight and good (and lucky) start for my gladiator career  Yeah, I realized later I have made some mistakes (specially with the favored enemy bonus), but since it wouldn't make a difference, I didn't bother. As for the tanglefoot bag, in round 8 would have to toss it from 40 ft away (he could move only 40 ft and make the attack), thus incurring a -6 penalty, and for that I decided to make him aproach as much as possible. Never the less, it was a fun fight, and a good start for my career as pitlord as well :D |
| Mal-202-03-06, 09:34 AM | As for the tanglefoot bag, in round 8 would have to toss it from 40 ft away (he could move only 40 ft and make the attack), thus incurring a -6 penalty I thought I should point out an error here, that probably gets made a lot. Range Increment Any attack at less than this distance is not penalized for range. However, each full range increment imposes a cumulative -2 penalty on the attack roll. A thrown weapon has a maximum range of five range increments. A projectile weapon can shoot out to ten range increments. So, for a tanglefoot bag, with a Range Increment of 10', I think the penalties look like this: Distance : Penalty 00' - 09': -0 10' - 19': -2 20' - 29': -4 30' - 39': -6 40' - 49': -8 50' - 59': Impossible |

Please don't take my question the wrong way... I'm looking for a clarification of your interpretation of the the rule rather than saying "hey, you're wrong!" :D In addition to the delay problem (Ivan was actively seeking his opponent and was thus not delaying), the Expansion psi-like ability of duergar has a duration of 30 minutes, not 3 rounds. Psi-like abilities are auto-augmented to the maximum extent of the manifester level, so duergar Expansion is treated as if it had a 2-pp augmentation (more if they have more hit dice). So Ivangar wins a -lot- more of his grapple checks. |
| Argaud02-03-06, 11:10 AM | Potions of Expeditious Retreat don't exist - personal range spells can't be made into potions. Zevox You are right. I wonder if there is some psionic tattoo (skate?) or something to move faster. Potions of speed are too expensive at this level. |
| waywreth02-03-06, 11:35 AM | You are right. I wonder if there is some psionic tattoo (skate?) or something to move faster. Potions of speed are too expensive at this level. Tattoo of skate, lasts 10 rounds (1 minute), 100gp cost. |
| MitzaVolchenko02-03-06, 11:58 AM | In addition to the delay problem (Ivan was actively seeking his opponent and was thus not delaying), the Expansion psi-like ability of duergar has a duration of 30 minutes, not 3 rounds. Psi-like abilities are auto-augmented to the maximum extent of the manifester level, so duergar Expansion is treated as if it had a 2-pp augmentation (more if they have more hit dice). So Ivangar wins a -lot- more of his grapple checks. # Psi-Like Abilities: 1/day—expansion, invisibility. These abilities affect only the duergar and whatever he carries. Manifester level is equal to Hit Dice (minimum 3rd). # Naturally Psionic: Duergar gain 3 bonus power points at 1st level. This benefit does not grant them the ability to manifest powers unless they gain that ability through another source, such as levels in a psionic class. Duration: 1 round/level (D) If you spend 2 additional power points, this power’s duration is 10 minutes per level rather than 1 round per level. When a creature uses a psi-like ability, the power is manifested as if the creature had spent a number of power points equal to its manifester level, which may augment the power to improve its damage or save DC. You are correct, but only because of this snippet as it is treated as if they have manifested at a minimum 3pp expenditure. I will look back and see if it makes a difference. I am also not sure which manifester level 'its' means...I believe I read its as a reflexive article and applied 'its' to the power, not the duergar. On the delay issue: Thwap was looking high and low for his opponent. Ivangar allowed him to pass within 10' and did nothing because he was stealthing and buffing. I was not going to allow Thwap to get no rounds from his buff because an opponent he had no chance of finding was not ready to attack yet. I left him with the miss chance for invisible and called it a day. If I have time, I will go in and see if the expansion issue makes a differnece. Turin conceded with only a question to the delay penalty so if I run out of time, it stande as written. |
| Luni02-03-06, 11:59 AM | @DTFarstar: Talari Tactics sent. |

So Ivangar wins a -lot- more of his grapple checks.Yikes I totally missed that! (The duration is on my sheet, by the way.) A quick look through the fight shows that I would win additional 6 grapple checks: round 14, round 15, 2 in round 17, and 2 in round 18. I can't help but think this will result in a win for Ivangar, so if you wouldn't mind MitzaVolchenko, I'd like an edit (sorry Warclone). |
| DSugui02-03-06, 12:03 PM | Tattoo of skate, lasts 10 rounds (1 minute), 100gp cost. Not really. A Tatoo of Skate costs 50 gp, since the range is "Personal or Touch", and thus does not costs double. Refer to the Potion of Levitation if there is any doubt (Levitation has range of "Personal or Close", and spells with range of Personal cannot be made in potions) |
| TelinArtho02-03-06, 12:07 PM | A tattoo of Skate costs 100gp - this is an issue that comes up every couple of weeks. If you want to see the ruling on it - look in the Prison thread under the "Court Decisions" as it is posted there. |
| Dracazar02-03-06, 12:09 PM | Not really. A Tatoo of Skate costs 50 gp, since the range is "Personal or Touch", and thus does not costs double. Refer to the Potion of Levitation if there is any doubt (Levitation has range of "Personal or Close", and spells with range of Personal cannot be made in potions) Even if I agree with you, here a Tattoo ok Skate costs 100 gp. There were a long discussion about that in prison/tavern and even if some sources agree with 50gp (also some WotC internals did so) it was ruled for 100gp. |

Zevox Thank you for taking the time to put up such a well-run fight. It was quite suspenseful watching as you posted the increments today... when you improvised and had him put up mirror image, I started getting very worried because I had not accounted for it in my tactics - If I had remembered a contingency for it I would have simply drawn a scroll of fireball and blasted all of them, but hindsight is 20/20. Unless Iced has anything to contest, Thank you again. Good fight, Iced. |
| waywreth02-03-06, 03:41 PM | If I had remembered a contingency for it I would have simply drawn a scroll of fireball and blasted all of them, but hindsight is 20/20. Actually fireball won't clear out the images. Figments seem to react normally to area spells (such as looking like they’re burned or dead after being hit by a fireball). However a good tactic against mirror image is magic missle - one missle per image. |

| SauroGrenom02-03-06, 06:05 PM | Rebreg vs Imperi vs Lortavos (Hunter) (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8387736) is up. I suspect there will be complaints - but remember to keep your tone civil. No problems from my corner. There wasn't much that Rebreg could do against those two opponents. Rebreg is a one trick horse, and when grappling won't work, he's not able to do much. *Shrug* Atleast it was a cheap loss and Rebreg makes ECL7. I think I may retire him now that he gets a place in the graveyard. He was my first character, and playing him taught me so very much about how to work in the d20 rules and CoCo rules. I may keep him around, but probably not. Pure grapple monks are not very sucessfull around here especailly as level increase and lots of special abilities, crazy spell combinations as prebuffs, armies of allies, natural attacks and DR come into play. |

I don't have a problem with Aid Another being a more advanced concept. :) Also, I should get spot checks to see Lortavos. You can see invisible creatures, it just is very rare. It’s practically impossible (+20 DC) to pinpoint an invisible creature’s location with a Spot check, and even if a character succeeds on such a check, the invisible creature still benefits from total concealment (50% miss chance). |

I'd rather do it sooner than later. |

You can see invisible creatures, it just is very rare. You can only even attempt to spot invisible creatures if they are within 20', since I charged I'm guessing I was further away than that. I thought Imperi only had a DR of 5... I wouldn't have used that damn fly otherwise =/ EDIT: Aw, crap. Er... Lortavos sorta doesn't have a potion of invisibility to use for this fight. I don't know WHY he doesn't, I could have sworn I bought him one. My memory must be spotty. If Sauro wants a rerun on this basis, I think he should get it, as he might have gotten a chance to attack me. Then again, he didn't want to attack me, so the result might not have changed. |

Unless Iced has anything to contest, Thank you again. Good fight, Iced. Heh, that was kinda a side-effect of two things: first, my lunch break; second, the fact that I didn't want my internet connection to drop on me unexpectedly and cause me to lose the match. The router my dad uses for our home network isn't the most reliable thing in the world anymore, so ocassionally our internet connections go down on random computers for random amounts of time (and for some reason it seems to strike my laptop most often - I don't know why, but eh). But anyway its good to know theres no complaints on your end. If Iced has no problems then, I'll be all set. I need to get to reading those three capters of The Illiad sometime soon anyway... Zevox |

| Macbrea02-04-06, 11:38 AM | In a very ugly matchup the Stone giant crushes Rayos. I have a question on the rewards to this fight. A stone Giant is CR 8 with LA+4. Is the rewards for his fight as per a CR 8 or ECL 12? |
| Pittbull02-04-06, 11:41 AM | The CR8 counts, sorry. |
| Macbrea02-04-06, 11:49 AM | Ok, just wanted to make sure I did that correctly. |
| Mal-202-04-06, 11:50 AM | A stone Giant is CR 8 with LA+4. Is the rewards for his fight as per a CR 8 or ECL 12? A stone giant is 14 HD, LA +4, and CR 8. It's ECL 18, not ECL 12. As far as I know, you only get xp and gold based on the CR of the creature in monster fights, though. |

Is the rewards for his fight as per a CR 8 or ECL 12? What a ridiculous monster fight. 14 levels of giant + 4La. vs an ECL 8, yeah, good luck there. Edit: Hmmm... and isn't the CR listed supposed to be for a party of 4? Oh well, I'll go mutter elsewhere to myself. |
| Mal-202-04-06, 01:22 PM | What a ridiculous monster fight. 14 levels of giant + 4La. vs an ECL 8, yeah, good luck there. Edit: Hmmm... and isn't the CR listed supposed to be for a party of 4? Oh well, I'll go mutter elsewhere to myself. It's one of those creatures with a huge combat strength, but very weak to magic. Take a look at the saves: Fort +13, Ref +6, Will +7. An ECL 8 wizard or cleric would have a much better chance against that creature. On the other hand, something like a bodak, also CR 8, would would be almost impossible for rogue and mage types. So, yes, random creatures are sometimes really unfair to a single character. |
| DTFarstar02-04-06, 01:32 PM | Yeah, like Murtagh, my ECL 8 Telepath wouldn't have had too much problem with it. 4 PP vigor to give me 83 hp, Overchanneled Psionic Endowed Mind Thrust(DC 26),(10d10 unless he rolled a 19 or a 20), get beat on, Overchanneled Mind Thrust(10d10 unless 17+), 5 PP Mind Thrust to finish it off, or an Energy Stun or something. But... if he gets paired against an undead, all he can do is run away while crystal sharding or Energy Stunning. Neither of which are going to get him very far vs. a Mohrg or a Skeletal Young Red Dragon. -Edit- Pretty much anything immune to mind effecting, faster than him with a ranged weapon, or with a TON of HPs and/or a good will save totally kills him. |
| TelinArtho02-04-06, 01:53 PM | You can only even attempt to spot invisible creatures if they are within 20', since I charged I'm guessing I was further away than that. @Luni - Gonbow is partially correct: A creature can generally notice the presence of an active invisible creature within 30 feet with a DC 20 Spot check. The observer gains a hunch that “something’s there” but can’t see it or target it accurately with an attack. A creature who is holding still is very hard to notice (DC 30). An inanimate object, an unliving creature holding still, or a completely immobile creature is even harder to spot (DC 40). It’s practically impossible (+20 DC) to pinpoint an invisible creature’s location with a Spot check, and even if a character succeeds on such a check, the invisible creature still benefits from total concealment (50% miss chance). However, the lack of the invisibility potion is significant and something I should have double checked (ironically enough - I did check for the fly potion... go figure. Either a) the potion is considered used (so Lortavos has to spend the money on it) or b) I rerun the fight without Lortavos's invisibility. Given Rebreg's tactics - the only thing that might change is that Rebreg might take a few shots at Lortavos instead. Respond to this Luni and Sauro - if you want to see it rerun. I won't get to it until Monday - but I want to know by then. |

Im heading out for some erronds, but i'll be looking to run this around noon eastern, so you have until then. If you have sent them, please re send. @both my gladiators - if you have any beefs with the fight (once its up) please post it here, but PM me with the post. my checking of the FotW threads are minimal at best. | Macbrea02-04-06, 06:01 PM | What a ridiculous monster fight. 14 levels of giant + 4La. vs an ECL 8, yeah, good luck there. Edit: Hmmm... and isn't the CR listed supposed to be for a party of 4? Oh well, I'll go mutter elsewhere to myself. I agree. The way the monster fights work is on in CoCo is that you roll a d100 on the level of dungeon encounter page 80 DMG in your case. Looking at what monster it rolls. The league of the monster is equal to your ECL. It results in some really lopsided match-ups. In this case I rolled a 45 on the die roll on the 8th level dungeon and got 1 Stone Giant. He gains money based off NPC wealth because he was standard wealth listed in his description. In your case, you basicly ended up against a creature that the only real method of winning is either magic or extremely good tactics. You would have had a much harder time vs some of the other creatures on that list had you faced them. As I don't think you actually do enough real damage take out something crazy like a 7 headed hydra. |

Well, a CR X moster is easy prey for a level X party, make it level X+2 or X+3 to get a tough monster (that should still not kill somebody but use up most spells, dayly-use items and hit-points. For 1 character a moster with CR = player level should be a 50:50 chance, if he -knows what he is facing -can use everything he has -is average prepared With the 1/3 rule and the fact, that he does not know his opponent untill just before the fight, and the houserule, that monster get NPC-equipment equall to their CR, the monsters should be much stronger then the characters. ...But on the other hand, the characters are 32-point buy and supposted to be min/maxed to the square and always average prepared against anything, so it works most of the time. Hydras are another case, they are among the evilest mosters in terms of Power/CR, topped only by dragons. |

Standard Refer to the treasure tables and roll d% once for each type of treasure (Coins, Goods, Items) on the Level section of the table that corresponds to the creature’s Challenge Rating (for groups of creatures, use the Encounter Level for the encounter instead). Some creatures have double, triple, or even quadruple standard treasure; in these cases, roll for each type of treasure two, three, or four times. |
| MitzaVolchenko02-04-06, 07:53 PM | Yikes I totally missed that! My time available is not looking good. This will require a major re-run as I have to go back and change Thwap's tactic. I allowed him to stay in grapple because of the short duration of the expansion. I'll try to get the time, but I can't assure that I canget the time. Requesting a hold over may be reasonable on this one. I wish you had caught the error with your first response, Turin, as at that point I had the time for a re-run. |

Grm, one time I forget to take my mace out and my opponent starts a grapple... heh, next Dragon Disciple level, I will have claws and bite. And another thing: the option to escape (-artist) from a grapple is not availabe, because the skill is untrained? Hm, I always had the idea it was not but now that I check it, I don't know why. PS Macbrea: Yes, they get random treasure, maybe 1 or 2 magic items - weapons or armor of wrong size or something. |

I'm sure both Warclone and I would rather just move on and get into next week's pairings if it can't be fixed this week (although I might challenge Thwap for a rematch in a week or two just for my own satisfaction). |

I can't imagine the complexity of running a higher level or ffa fight. Biota I know I'm not Snommelp or Dr. Funk, but I can point out one thing you'll need to do further: Logan has the Diehard feat, and therefore isn't out of the fight yet. For quick reference for you: DIEHARD [GENERAL] Prerequisite: Endurance. Benefit: When reduced to between –1 and –9 hit points, you automatically become stable. You don’t have to roll d% to see if you lose 1 hit point each round. When reduced to negative hit points, you may choose to act as if you were disabled, rather than dying. You must make this decision as soon as you are reduced to negative hit points (even if it isn’t your turn). If you do not choose to act as if you were disabled, you immediately fall unconscious. When using this feat, you can take either a single move or standard action each turn, but not both, and you cannot take a full round action. You can take a move action without further injuring yourself, but if you perform any standard action (or any other action deemed as strenuous, including some free actions, such as casting a quickened spell) you take 1 point of damage after completing the act. If you reach –10 hit points, you immediately die. Normal: A character without this feat who is reduced to between –1 and –9 hit points is unconscious and dying. With Pyro down, this could give the fight to Logan, barring a good hit from Squall. Zevox |

| Usurpator02-05-06, 03:47 PM | @PittBull, Hey, thanks for running Shaz's fight. It seems he was unlucky indeed, missed the first strike, did he roll a 2 for his first attack? And then failing the Reflex save, several 1's, and hitting AC 21 three times in a row while Gundir has AC 22..... - I am fine with you shooting at Gundir while he still had cover, it was getting already getting late for us to get into combat after all. - I am also fine with you having the ceiling affected by entangle (I can imagine roots dangling from there), I did think about this in advance, but just thought to wait for your ruling, although I don't know if Kaigan even suspected it might work, since his tactics indicated he didn't expect me up the ceiling. I will ask NiQil to include it for future reference in his rules clarification document, since it might come up again, and my characters want to be able to use that option too. All in all, it looks good, these are my remarks/issues: - I don't think Gundir can cast produce flame and hurl it in the same round. Produce flame is not a touch spell, it works just like Call Lightning and its ilk. First cast it, then use it in the subsequent rounds. - I am not seeing Gundir trying to cast warp wood at my bow despite his tactics. Although it is a little bit silly for him to try the spell on a deep crystal bow, I like to profit from tactical errors made by my adversaries. Did you improvise for him not to do so? - You have Gundir cast three produce flames, but he only has two memorized, so that last one is out of the question. All in all, any changes produced by issues above will probably not change the outcome, since Gundir can still cure plenty, but who knows? IMO Shazzelin deserves a little luck, and in the 1-3 extra rounds Shazzelin will get due to the issues, he might hit Gundir with a crit or good shot (and Gundir's Bear's Endurance will go down in r. 31, so Shaz need only 16 damage to do it.), long odds for sure, but I'd like Shazzelin to take that tiny chance, with your permission. |
| Ariel2302-05-06, 04:03 PM | Sven vs. Davos (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8397375&postcount=166) is up. In Round 04 Sven deals 8 damage, but damage is only recorded as 2. Probably doesn't matter since Sven won, but worth noting. I'm not really positive, but it looks like in Round 05, Davos is fighting defensively with one hand and not defensively with the other. It doesn't matter as both attacks missed. |
| kedi02-05-06, 04:11 PM | @Maraxus, DTFarstar: Due not having a constant internet connection for a few days, and since today I had a tournament to attend, I'll squeeze two fights for tomorrow, probably handling yours' at school, so I'll be using real dice w/ modifiers. I hope it's alright. |

A. has to stow his shield and draw the scroll, and cast a round later, or B. drop his shield, draw scroll and cast immediately Since it isn't exactly specified what you want to do it's up to Pitbull what you should do I guess. But since Shazzelin has 3 hits on AC 21 in those last rounds, and without his shield Gundir will be reduced from AC 22 to AC 21, this will get tricky.... We'll see what Pittbull has too say. Good fight though! Overlooked the fact that you had a scroll of resist energy... Hope that I at least suprised and scared you a bit by going up the walls.... |

The others are on scrolls. Yeah the last one is form a scroll, he'll drop the shield, cast the spell from the scroll and pick up the shield in the next round. Let's see what happens when I fix the fight. I fix the fight tomrrow and add the additional actions for Shaz. |

| Snommelp02-05-06, 06:15 PM | Squall Leonhart (Dr.Funk) vs. Logan Granger (Snommelp) is up here. This was my first fight, took me while to run and this seems like a fairly simple fight overall. I can't imagine the complexity of running a higher level or ffa fight. Biota As the last line of my short tactics stated, keeping away from the Hold Person spell was top priority; I would therefore be interested to know how Squall managed to cast it in the second round of combat. |
| Zevox02-05-06, 06:28 PM | After disappearing for a day or two and coming back to find that my fight's results have changed due to complete partiality to one of the characters not only from the rules and nerfs to casters but also from the pitlord as well JUST BECAUSE I DIDN'T TELL THE PITLORD TO IMPROVISE, I have decided to retire Aranor for good. I'll see everyone later this week after I cool down. All I have to say for myself is that I am disappointed. Good day. I'm sorry if you feel that is the way it turned out Sindorin, and more so that it is causing you to retire your character. My intent was not such in the least. The simple circumstance was that his tactics had broken down and improvision was necessary, whereas yours had not. His request was to use any items if his tactics broke down (not an unreasonable request, I think), so I did. I greatly wish that he had sent me more specific tactics in the first place so that improvision would be unecessary, as I said in my comments on the match, but as that was not the case all I could do was make a pitlord call on what to have him do. As it was I did feel it is reasonable for him to use his oil if he could ID the spell used to protect you, so I granted his request to add such a possibility. It was a close match as it was (you saw what the hp difference was in the initial result), and that was just enough to change it. Again, I'm sorry if you feel that this was an incorrect call, but my intent was in no way to be partial towards his character. Zevox |

| Usurpator02-05-06, 06:30 PM | After disappearing for a day or two and coming back to find that my fight's results have changed due. I can imagine that you are upset, certainly seeing the extent of the improvisation, the way it came about and the lack of return improvisation. While there are no hard and fast rules how to improvise, I do have a few guidelines concerning improvisations by Pitlords that I use: Usurpator's Improvisation Guidelines 1. Improvise in the spirit of the submitted tactics Don't decide you know a far better tactic for this fight than what was submitted. If a gladiator's primary goal is melee, Pitlord's should improvise tactics to get him to melee and (for example) only switch to ranged when no melee seems possible even after improvisation, even though *you* might think ranged is a far better option. 2. Improvisations should be basic Please save your fiendish and/or complicated tactics for your own characters and don't reward players for writing inapplicable tactics or failing to mention contingencies. Basic improvisations only. 3. Improvisations must be beneficial An improvisation by a Pitlord should always attempt to bring the gladiator in a better position. No improvisations should be worse than the failing tactic. 4. Improvisations only need to be acceptable A Pitlord has a multitude of options available when improvising. He is not required to choose the best of these option (he might not even be aware of the best option). He just needs to choose an acceptable option. 5. Minimize use of expendables A Pitlord should never use costly expendables when improvising, unless the player has given him permission. Even then Pitlords should exercise caution. 6. One improvisations deserves another If you improvise for one player, you should be prepared to make equal improvisations for the other player (if neccessary). This is especially true if your improvisation causes the other's players tactics to fail or become less effective. Some players may actually count on opponents being unprepared for their fiendishly crafted tactics. If you improvisation negates that tactic or makes it significantly less usefull, you are rewarding the player with didn't write comprehensive tactics, and punishing the player who wrote an novel/suprising tactic, so be careful with that! 7. Never include player suggestions when you edit The Pitlord should never edit a fight using improvised tactics that are suggested by one of the players in the fight. Players should refrain from suggesting tactics after they have seen the fight. Players can ask a Pitlord to improvise, but not to improvise with a certain tactic (unless given in the submitted tactics of course, but then it's not an improvisation). If they had wanted a particular improvisation, they should have included it in their tactics, if they don't mind, they shouldn't attempt to push the Pitlord in a certain direction, it is not fair to their opponents. 8. Some things are not improvisations This is a difficult guideline, because it will vary from Pitlord to Pitlord, but generally players shouldn't be expected to include basic combat tactics. For example: archers and wizards should always take a 5 ft. step to avoid drawing an AoO if they can, riders should always use their ride skill to get a +4 cover bonus to AC etc. (unless mentioned otherwise in tactics of course). |
| Usurpator02-05-06, 06:37 PM | Actually, since the sheild is only light wooden, I can hold the scroll in the shield hand, and cast from there. I know you can 'hold' things in your shield hand when carrying a light shield, but I didn't think you cannot 'use' any item that you carry in your shield hand (weapon, wand, powerstone, scroll, whatever). Especially since there is such a thing as a Caster's Shield. But it does make sense to me (reasoning from logic, not game rules) that you should be able to read from a scroll held in your shield hand. So if there is any doubt about the rules, I think we should go with what you say. |
| Zevox02-05-06, 08:35 PM | Interesting set of guidlines Usurpator. I kinda wish I'd seen them before I ran the fight, since this was the first fight where I've had to use this much improv (last week's was close, since Tan's default tactics weren't clear, but there I didn't have the "use any items" request to deal with in addition to improvising). I can see your point about not editing in improvisations - in hindsight it does seem to lessen the worth of well-written, specific tactics, which certainly I don't want to do. Perhaps I was wrong in deciding to accept Iced's request just because I believed it to be a reasonable improv. If it is the consensus of the community (or the opinion of an Elder) that accepting Iced's request was the wrong decision on my part, I will try to find the time to edit the fight back to its original form. Zevox For the most part, Usurpator's guidelines are pretty dead on, in my opinion. As for the fight in question, I am not going to sit here and say what you did was right or wrong. You are the pitlord, so only you can say if what you did was right or wrong. What I will say, however, is that a suggested improvisation like Iced made, occuring after the fight is posted, is not something I would have edited in if I had run the fight. I would have left it as is, due to the fact that it is a specific improvisation to a specific problem. If the issue had been something more general, such as whether to stay at range or get into melee, then I could justify changing a general improvisation if there was a disagreement about the overall intent of tactics. But a specific improv to a specific situation that is not covered in tactics already is, to me, something I could not justify. Just my 4 gp, 9 sp and 2 cp. |
| TheMagister02-05-06, 08:55 PM | I'm with Usurpator. I just so happen to be watching the Superbowl right now, and somebody said something on the car radio (don't ask how..it's complicated) that struck a chord with me. He said something to the effect of, "Way back in so-and-so game, there was no such thing as 'instant replay'. What the refs called is what happened. Why don't we go back to the pureness of the game, and we'll have good football again?" It struck me as a suggestion worth contemplation because of situations just like this one with the Zevox's fight. On tabletop D&D, there is no "instant replay". The DM is the final arbiter, and frequent 'rules lawyering' by a certain player or players ruins the fun-factor for all involved. Soon people find other things to do that are actually fun. Noone wants to spend 5-8 hrs at a friend's house attending what amounts to a stressful session of debate. That's why there's a DM, and his job is to keep things moving. THat's why he's given as much power as he has...so he can step on argumentative people and get the game back on track. I see a trend here. The general 'atmosphere' that has developed here is one that diminishes the power of the pitlord, and makes reruns and edits WAY to prevalent and frequent. I think the pitlords around here should exercise the clause that Cat has included in the Rules of Gladius thread that states that reruns are TOTALLY at the discretion of the pitlord, and that it is a 'favor' to the players if he or she does so. People getting all bent out of shape at minor errors that go uncorrected is just...well, it's game-destructive. I wouldn't mind seeing more Pitlords just telling me "I'm sorry, there won't be an edit or rerun because I don't think that there is enough of a chance for a significant change." Pitlords already are generously donating their time by running fights. This 'victim' mentality that has become the norm in the CoCo is just game-destructive and disruptive. I think we all (myself included...as Paul said, "I am the chiefest of all sinners", I've fallen victim to argumentativeness both here and during my TT games) just need to grow up and be men/women and not boys/girls. Enough of the stamping of feet and tantrums on the ground. Suck it up, ya'll (again, I'm talking to myself here as well). Lets have fun. TM |
| Snommelp02-05-06, 10:11 PM | As the last line of my short tactics stated, keeping away from the Hold Person spell was top priority; I would therefore be interested to know how Squall managed to cast it in the second round of combat. Biota, could I get a response to this? That single spell changes the fight completely; if Squall doesn't cast it in round 2, Pyro's attack that same round misses, and using the attack from round 5, Logan would kill Pyro that round. Pyro's death negates 29 damage dealt to Logan. Like I said, that Hold Person spell in round 2 decides the fight, so I'm interested to know why you didn't have Logan move out of the spell's line of effect, even though I asked for just such a move in Logan's short tactics. |
| MitzaVolchenko02-05-06, 10:35 PM | In Round 04 Sven deals 8 damage, but damage is only recorded as 2. Probably doesn't matter since Sven won, but worth noting. I'm not really positive, but it looks like in Round 05, Davos is fighting defensively with one hand and not defensively with the other. It doesn't matter as both attacks missed. No effect, indeed. I had to go back and edit outthe defensive fighting as on re-reading his tactics I decided he meant only touse defesvie stance for taking the charge no for theentire fight. |
| MitzaVolchenko02-05-06, 10:44 PM | I'm not ging to complain about finally winning a fight, but please note that my tactics allow me to concentrate on the silent image and not cast until it has done its job. I would have rather lost and at least tried the Bluff, just for the fight to be more entertaining. Of course with Sunstroke closing immeiately, there's not much time. Oh well. No biggie for me. I considered carrying through with the bluff, but that would have caused me to violate your spell order and would ahve crippled your damage dealing capability. As I said, Zwei and Sliver heartily approve of your tactic, but it wasn't feasible, and given the lynch the pitlord atmosphere that can arise around here, I felt that cutting fluffiness was more acceptable than cutting your primary damage dealing abilities. |
| kedi02-05-06, 10:47 PM | Since the discussion about mandetory online roller has not ended yet, I'm okay with it. Please don't cheat. :D  But doesn't your teacher get ... negative, if you roll dies and protocoll them on your laptop in class?School doesn't necessarily mean lesson. ;) |
| MitzaVolchenko02-05-06, 11:21 PM | @My remaining responsibilities...I got drafted into playing LAN tech when I got home from work tonight so I will be at the wire running again this week. I will do my best to get the Thwap edit done as well. However, I am prioritizing to my quests as they cost people credits. |

The DM is the final arbiter, and frequent 'rules lawyering' by a certain player or players ruins the fun-factor for all involved. If Rule 0 became Rule 0, 1, 2, and 3, I would happily pitlord again. This is a big part of the equation in a drop in pitlording; the other part being (to some) an excessive amount of CoCo rulings that can't be accessed from one's books or the SRD or FAQ. I think for most, when the fun goes away, so do the pitlords and/or players. That's just my perception, it might be completely inaccurate. I suggested to Kedi that it would be nice if everyone had to pitlord 1 fight before their characters could level to the next ECL. [Violations would result weekly in prison sentences, so you could wait 1 week if you needed to, or make the character inactive if the timing is bad.] Not a large burden, but enough that everyone PL's to remember what it's like. |

In the second round I did move you to cover, though given your response I think you wanted to break line of sight. I guess I took the word "cover" too literally and didn't understand exactly what evasive action you wanted take while following the spirit of the first part of your tactics. I am sorry that you are unhappy with the fight. I worked pretty hard on it. It was the fight fight I have Pitlorded. I don't really know where to go from here. I'm kind of not inclined to do a rerun because I don't think I did you horribly wrong. On the other hand I we are here to have fun and I don't want you to be unhappy. After hearing what I have to say do you still believe I misrepresented your tactics? I haven't been around long enough to know what kinds of things justify a rerun. If anyone else has an opinion on whether this qualifies please chime in. |

If anyone else has an opinion on whether this qualifies please chime in. Ultimately, the only thing that justifies a rerun is your opinion of the fight. You are not required to rerun. However, it is considered courteous to do so if there are errors. Simple rules errors are usually easy to see and fix, while issues with regards to how tactics are applied are usually less so. This situation would fall into the tactical category. No one can make the decision to rerun but you. All of that being said...after reading Logan's tactics, in my opinion, the top priority of Logan's tactics appear to be to stay out of the path of a potential Hold Person spell until he was within range to be able to close to melee and attack. The wording "evasive action," however, does leave room for interpretation. I would take that to mean "keep me out of the spell range and/or out of LOS until I can close to melee." If I had been the one running this fight, I would be inclined to rerun if those conditions were not met to the best of Logan's ability. But again...that's what I would do...not necessarily what you should do. |
| Sindorin02-06-06, 03:05 AM | Issue Resolved. |
| kedi02-06-06, 05:54 AM | Great! I got stuck at home due snow, and that gave me plenty of time to run my fights. After a short hide-and-seek, and a few slap slap, tip-top-, bing-bang, and fourteen rounds of hideous laughter of the witch, the game has come to an end. It'll be posted on the Battle Thread in a second, then after a short break, I'll run the other fight. |
| Pittbull02-06-06, 07:27 AM | @Usupator and Kaigan: I fixed the problems in the fight, yo have noted. In round 32, I got to make a decission, whether to shoot and fall down or to move down. I decided that Shaz moves down. If there are more mistakes, please let me know, I'll fix them too. |
| Maraxus02-06-06, 07:38 AM | Whow, Murtagh Deegan had Energy Stun on his power list. And I did not see it, that could have ruined my day (as I expected Dominate & Mind Thrust). But it looks like I was lucky. Energy Stun is really an interesting power - +1DC for every power point - That's the only power that works that way, everywhere else, it is 1 per 2. Hit points and positions are not updated, if you have some minutes, could you do that? Oh ... and I guess, my opponent won't accept this. He did his escape artist check (hey, why can he do that untrained but Zassl can't escape artist the grapple?) in round 10 (The fifth from round six, including, on). Even worse, this means, he can already move the first 30ft in that turn. With the succesful refelx save in the following round, he would be out of the entanglement (hm, looking at this, maybe I had not been that lucky in this fight) in round 11. Oh, but then I'm seeing something else, I'd like to have other knowing people's opinions on: Entangle gives a -4 penalty to Dexterity. That means, Murtaghs Dex is at 6. Nat20s only autosuccede on attacks and saves, so he does not have any chance to escape, right? |
| kedi02-06-06, 08:50 AM | Hit points and positions are not updated, if you have some minutes, could you do that? They are updated. Nonlethal damage is listed in silver. With the succesful refelx save in the following round, he would be out of the entanglement (hm, looking at this, maybe I had not been that lucky in this fight) in round 11. Um. Nop. Attempting to escape artist (or str check for that matter) if a full round action, thus he'd break free on your turn. Even then, entangle makes him move at half speed. Oh, but then I'm seeing something else, I'd like to have other knowing people's opinions on: Entangle gives a -4 penalty to Dexterity. That means, Murtaghs Dex is at 6. Nat20s only autosuccede on attacks and saves, so he does not have any chance to escape, right?Thinking that, I believe auto-success involves Skill-checks and also ability checks. I really rolled just to see if he'd hit an auto-success -which he did so once, but next one he failed, and due not being able to move at his full speed, he got stuck in. EDIT: I'm retarded. Unlike with attack rolls and saving throws, a natural roll of 20 on the d20 is not an automatic success, and a natural roll of 1 is not an automatic failure. So he never even broke free anyway. I'll handle it right away. EDIT II: Done. |

And before I end this post, I would like to say that sometimes I come off as upset or angry online when I don't mean to. I'm much better face-to-face. Rest assured, I am not upset now. I was merely curious as to your reasoning behind why you put Logan where you did. |
| King Uther02-06-06, 11:01 AM | @Snommelp That is the problem with message boards/email. You can often portray emotions that you do not have. Sometimes I am mildly upset about a fight and my words get the better of me, and I look insanely angry. The longer I play here themore I realize this should be a community first, and I think in the long run that will be what attracts people here. |
| Sindorin02-06-06, 11:06 AM | I have a temper. I don't think that the boards allow me to show exactly how vehemently angry I can become when something happens on these boards that I don't like... (JUST KIDDING) We're all adults, and we act like them as long as we are human adults. I may have seemed upset about the Aranor vs. Validi improvisation reruns, but it didn't really bug me all that much. I had too much homework and a sick girlfriend to take care of, not to mention the tradition of watching the super bowl, to really be able to actually get throwing stuff mad about a silly pitlord decision. |
| DTFarstar02-06-06, 11:28 AM | I've been alot busier than I thought I would be this past week. Stupid freaking school projects. Anyway, If someone wants to take Dameon vs. Lissa and/or Vandelar vs. Talari they are up for grabs. I'll try to get to them tonight, if no one takes them. Either way they will get done, I just don't want to rush them and do a disservice to the players. -Chris |
| Gonbow02-06-06, 11:34 AM | So... Any eta on that delayed FFA for Tatyana et, al? I'd rather like for Tatyana to be able to join Psi next week before the slot is filled. My ECL 3 fight should be up in a few hours. EDIT: You can take feats with requirements you meet only under the effects of items/spells right? I.E: A human wizard can take multi-attack in order to gain its effect while polymorhped/et al, right? I know you can take feats whose ability requirements you don't meet normally (dodge, et al), just wanted to confirm this. |
| DTFarstar02-06-06, 11:50 AM | @ Maraxus - Grr.... you were lucky, if you think about it. I did the same thing you did, and didn't notice a power you had. Namely entangle. If I had included Dimension Door in my tactics, that fight might have been more interesting. Also, Energy Missile has the same damage/DC progression as Energy Stun. I want to say there is another one that does it too, but yeah, the +1d6/+1DC per PP is REALLY good. I like to think that this fight represents two things. My inability to NOT make a mistake in writing tactics, and how freaking hard it is to fight a pixie when most of your powers are close range only. Anyway, good fight, I'm going to edit Murtagh now. EDIT - Can you list our, or at least my, free activity? It's listed as Haggling, but I think the official name is Discount or something. Using Bluff, Sense Motive, and Appraise to get a discount on an item. |
| Kaigan02-06-06, 12:24 PM | @Pittbull: I didn't see anything else worth changing, but we'll wait on Usurpator, thanks for doing the changes. @Telin and Ribking: I will be running your fight tonight. I got hit with the flu last night, so I've been in and out of sleep all night. I missed my first class, so I need to go to my next ones. I've got work from 3:00 till 6:ish, so After that, I'll run it. thanks for your patience. Hopefully I'll have some inspiration for story. Kaigan |

| Ariel2302-06-06, 01:17 PM | @maraxus, kedi There is no autosuccess for ability checks and skill checks. Those "Natural" 1 & 20 rules are listed specifically only under saves and attack rolls. |
| Usurpator02-06-06, 01:21 PM | @Pittbull Also thanks for doing the changes for me. Shazzelin got that one extra shot and he missed, end of story. I think my tactics vs. Kaigan's tactics made the odds of winning reasonably good for Shazzelin, probably above the 50%, and the tactics were implemented well. I have no problem in losing to the dice. |
| Gonbow02-06-06, 01:22 PM | Cid vs Krayko is up here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8409830&postcount=177). I'll be on and off the boards all day/night so if there are any issues please lemme know. EDIT: ^Rayne^: I didn't put in the fight, but you need to list the Spot, Listen, Move Silently and Hide modifiers for Krayko on the sheet, even if you never put skill points in them. |
| Pittbull02-06-06, 01:34 PM | @Usurpator/Kaigan: I added the result and used items. (here) (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8402561&postcount=171) |
| SauroGrenom02-06-06, 01:39 PM | Usurpator, I know it's not late yet, but I'm totally chomping at the bit here. Kracknol's up against Kara the Ghost and I think my tactics are good. I know his chances are slim against all the supernatural abilities. But with all the goats blood I've sacrificed to the dice gods, I hope to have a couple swings in before Kracknol falls to the ability damage :ghosted:. |
| Argaud02-06-06, 01:46 PM | 2. Improvisations should be basic Please save your fiendish and/or complicated tactics for your own characters and don't reward players for writing inapplicable tactics or failing to mention contingencies. Basic improvisations only. I have to say all Usurpator's guidelines seem excellent, except maybe this one. Although the tactics before the battle might be elaborated by the gladiator and his/her coach (and friends and advisors) once in the arena the warriors have only their own wits and experience to improvise. In my humble opinion a character with very high Int and Wis should be able to improvise -far- more cunning and 'fiendish' tactics in the face of an unexpected situation than your average moronic ogre brute (which should probably just stay still a few rounds trying to think something to do). I think falling back to basic tactics would be alright for characters of average mental stats. Falling back to dumb tactics or to cunning tactics is perfectly aceptable too! :D |
| Kaigan02-06-06, 01:48 PM | @Usurpator/Kaigan: I added the result and used items. (here) (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8402561&postcount=171) I think it's just a typo, but Gundir should have only won 1500 xp. |

Falling back to dumb tactics or to cunning tactics is perfectly aceptable too! :D While I agree with your train of thought, the problem is that tactics are written by us, and not thought up by the characters. I sometimes see brilliant tactics by characters who have mental ability scores in the single digits, or very poor tactics from Int 22, Wis 16 characters. Generally I think a Pitlord's use of a tactics should encourage players to do a good job writing them, and not reward them for just having created a wizard. What I usually do to somewhat simulate the mental ability scores is to have a gladiator make a Wis check (DC 10 or 15) to make him realize that his tactics are failing, and then an Int check to come up with an improvised tactic, the improvisation being more advanced if the result of Int check result is higher. |

| ^Rayne^02-06-06, 03:11 PM | Gonbow, Thanks for runnning the fight. My only question for this fight has to do with Experience earned. Isn't the CR for this fight higher for my PC than usual because he was facing a level 3 PC and a Small Fire Elemental? If so wouldn't he get slightly more XP despite the loss? I'm just curious about this because it seems like this factor actually makes this fight tougher than fighing an ordinary Level 3 battle. The small fire elemental did most of the damage to my PC while Krayko was trying to deal with Cid. If he didn't have that help my PC's chances of winning would have climbed measureably. Except for that one point I am happy with the way it turned out. Considering the sorry shape of my character and the cards stacked against Sorcerers at this level I think it went well. I will add the Spot, Listen, and Search checks to my character sheet as soon as I have word on this Xp question. On a side note related to Cid's tactics... stuff about him... this is gonna help him but it says 16 Ac +4mage armor +4 shield is 23 but its 24 Actually this is not a mistake on my part. The mage armor doesn't stack with his Bracers of Armor so that is whey when he has both spells active his AC is 23 not 24. I just wanted to point this out since you might have missed this detail. |
| Zevox02-06-06, 03:34 PM | Actually, looking at Gonbow's fight, Cid shouldn't be able to bring his Fire Elemental ally. According to the Allies II (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6466732) section of the FAQ, the minimum diplomacy modifier needed to bring Small Elemental allies is +12, and Cid only has +11. Zevox |
| Gonbow02-06-06, 03:44 PM | @^Rayne^ You're quite correct, you should be getting more XP and he should be getting less; I completely forgot this aspect of the fight. @Zevox Hmm. I'll double check his modifiers and the required modifer to get the elemental, if so, I'll have to back this fight up the third round or so. EDIT: Checked; indeed, he is not supposed to be using his elemental until he levels up or somehow increases his charisma. I'll backup the fight with Cid by himself. He'll probably want to sneak a bit more to get at least a single SA off since he cant flank with Ifrit as he desired to do. |

According to the Allies II section of the FAQ, the minimum diplomacy modifier needed to bring Small Elemental allies is +12, and Cid only has +11. Zevox If what you say is true Zevox then that would completely alter the fight. I'm not about to get my hopes up, but that would mean my PC wouldn't have wasted a round firing a Ray of Frost at the Fire Elemental and he would have been able to put all of his energies into attacking Cid. He would have been able to fire his Crossbow at him at least three more times which eventually he probably would have hit him or if he moved in close my PC could have used Ray of Frost against him which has an even better chance of hitting. He only had 2 hitpoints after the two MM spells were cast against him. This could certainly change the outcome. I won't dwell too much on this for now until I see some confirmation of what you have stated. I guess Gonbow also has the final decision on whether he wants to redo this fight in light of this information so it is entirely up to him. I'll just sit and wait to see what happens here. |

| DTFarstar02-06-06, 06:34 PM | Here are the tactics if anyone wants to take these off my hands. If not I'll get to them when I can. Tough opponent *moves should be done silently (even double moves) *use tumble when appropiate to Avoid AoO (gannon too) *gannon unless otherwise noted will use his active move actions for listen/spot checks and comunicate the results to vandelar *use spellcraft when she's heard casting to determine spells *when casting routine should be cast & move not the other way around * use spellcraft after she is affected by a spell to determine if she has resistance switch to spells she doesn't have resistance start furthest at the back of default location with scroll of invisibility round 1: cast invisibility from scroll move to the right if luni not detected yet, if detected move to the left or right accordingly round 2: draw scroll of protection from evil & cast it 5 foot step round 3 up: If land creatures sighted (besides luni) climb up walls otherwise move towards luni when detected and begin spell chain Offensive spell chain preference: 17 spell levels if not in range move down Main Target > Luni unless she has casted freedom of movement already use spellcraft to determine before casting dc 24 Evard's black tentacles 4 > Ray of enfeeblement 1 > scorching ray x3 6 > fireball x2 6 =17 if luni is flying * a flying character who takes 1/2 or more of his hp in damage must land cast shield on gannon recall with pearl when given the chance Greater Invisibility 4 > S Empowered Fireball 5 > fireball 3 > S fireball 3 > S Shocking grasp Gannon x2 2 > Contingencies: bat swarm: fireball it land critters climb up the walls Invisible Luni draw cast see invisibility from scroll (how: if detected by sound in an area where she is not visible for example) feel free to use any expendables at vandelars disposal I tried to keep the tactics simple if you have any doubts or problems with the tactics reply and I'll get back to you asap Hi DTFarstar. Sorry for taking so long. Enter at the back mounted on Keois, with Ripper standing beside me. Have the bats on the other side and have Talari carry her shield and Scroll of Freedom of Movement. Round 1: Order bats to search and destroy, cast Freedom of Movement. Round 2: MOve out clockwise on the wall. Draw and cast Prot. From Sonic. Round 3: Draw and activate Figurine. Have it search for Vandy. Round 4: Cast Call Lighting. Round 5: Move and listen for Vandy. Ready to counterspell spellcasting. Being attacked by an invisble opponent. Draw and cast Obscuring Mist and wait as long as possible. Listen and rain down Call Lightning spells. Cloudkill: I'm immune, but my companions aren't, so just move out, specifically closer to where the spell was cast. Black Tentacles: Freedom of Movement stops this. IF he dispels my Freedom of Movement, but hasn't used the tentacles draw and cast Air Walk and move upwards. Magic Jar: Prot. potions make me immune. Just fine the body and smash the jewel with my python rod. If he is an invisible corpse, cast Dispel Magic on the Affected person. Draw and drink another potion when necessary. Resist Fire/Resist Sonic: Use as necessary. If he dispels Prot. from Sonic, cast it again. Use Call Lightning on where spells are coming from if necessary. Sprectral hand: Hit it with Call Lightnings til it dies. IF I can get an attack action in, Draw and Activate Python Rod. Then cast Flame Strike, Ice Storm. Use only if I see him! And don't include my allies in the AE if possible. Notes: If I think I can catch him in Faerie Fire, do so. If he casts Blacklight, stay far away from it. It'll wear off after a while. Always share spells with Keois. If Vandy goes on the ceiling, just use my allies to knock him off. Use attack spells. Cast Spike Growth and move away. The fall or spike damage will kill him. IF I go blind, use my tattoo. Heal when brought under 20 hp. Use memory first, then use my wand when under 40 hp. If he starts using crossbow bolts, ask for his surrender. Keep moving. Try to keep about 100 ft. of distance from him to negate most of his short range spells. IF he casts something, and I have a counter, use it. Any questions, PM me. Have fun, Luni DTF: Erm... you never mention drinking a Potion of Protection from X, I would assume this is an oversight, but I would like to know. I'll be running this battle in about 14 hours more than likely, so a response before then would be great. Luni: Drink it in round 4. Just move everything back another round. Doesn't matter which type I drink. Hey DTFarstar- I think I'll keep this simple: 0) If I can start prone with no objections from you, then please allow me to do so, as it will will garner me +4 AC vs Ranged attacks. Start in the rear center of my square Anyway, start with a powerstone of ML4 Vigor in one Hand, and a Powerstone of ML2 Biofeedback in the other. 1)Manifest Biofeedback (DR 2/-) from powerstone then draw a scroll of SMIII. 2)Manifest ML4 Vigor (+20 HP) from powerstone, then stand up and see where he is. Given his speed he’s likely found me already, 3)If I do not see him right now, then cast Entropic Shield (ranged attacks suffer 20% miss chance) and advance to cover. If I do see him now, then jump to step 5. 4) If I do not see him right now, then cast Expeditious Retreat from memory (+30 base speed) and advance to cover. If I do see him now, then jump to step 5. 5)I bet he’s already started pelting me with arrows. Well, adjust around my cover to prevent LOS and begin casting SMIII for a Celestial Hippogriff. 6) Once the hippogriff is summoned, have it fly out and grapple him. It will use all its attacks for grapples for future rounds. If the grapple was successful, then advance while drawing glaive and either attack him if he is in range (see below), or manifest Offensive Prescience from memory (+2 dmg). Charge next round if it means I’ll be able to attack him. 7)Until the hippogriff expires, attack in melee. If the hippogriff is about to expire and he is not even at half-hp, then move back and summon another hippogriff from a second scroll. Attacking him: -Always attack just him, not his horse. When grappled, I doubt he can use his mount for cover. The first attack will be a Charmed Divine Might (+6 dmg) with Psychic Weapon (+2d6 dmg). The next 2 attacks will also use Divine Mights. Of course, the hippogriff will be grappling for damage. Conditions: -If at 30 HP or lower, use an ML4 Vigor Powerstone to recoup HP. Use the lesser Vigor powerstones if ML4 is unavailable. -Do not engage a ranged fight unless all other long-range options are exhausted (summoning ends). If summoning fails for both scrolls, then simply buff with Alter Self from scroll into the form of an Azer (+6 NA, and no need to absorb equipment), Mirror Image from scroll, then fire arrows, healing when necessary. Use Charmed Divine mights in the first 3 shots. -Tumble to avoid any AoOs If there are any problems, PM me. Thanks for running the fight and have fun. -Huan Oh yeah, and if I see he has his lance out instead of a bow, then please make sure there is cover/an obstacle between us as to prevent a charge. Thanks. -Huan First off note that Lissa isn't making 1% for WAR. Cut&Paste Basics: Due to the fact that the arena is symetrical both ways, all tactics will be written assuming I start at the far left box. Start mounted with bow out at (-22,0) This gives me a fair view of both the top and bottom boxes. If I see any of him, ride to a better vantage point of thkat area and begin to pelt with arrows. If I dont see him the first round then ride to (-6,12) and then (4,12) and shoot when I see him. If I still dont see him, continue ridding around the arena, try not to get close to any possible hidding places esp the center and the boxes. When he is found, keep maximum distance that I can with a clear shot, and keep raining death. Always use max number of shots possible. If I get down to 20 arrows or less, only use my highest attack modifiers. If he manages to run me out of arrows, switch to lance and melee him to death. If something drastic happens, use your best judgement based on the build. Specifics: If I don't see him after two rotations of the arena activate the Hand of Glory.(with any luck he'll waste a dispell before i get it up.) Then continue in the search. If he dispels my SeeInvis, then just ride around in random directions, have Rhonda attack any invis thing it smells. Also always attempt to spot invis creature(if hes moving within 50' of me its possible, DC 20 spot check to pinpoint an active living invis creature) GL HF |

I hope I was correct in one thing: if you lose dodge bonuses to AC against an invisible attacker, this includes the bonus from total defense. If not, it won't change things, but since it was specifically mentioned in tactics along with an assumption that the opponent would be invisible, I thought I would double check. |

I totally forgot that the bonus from total defense was a dodge bonus... There is a comments I'd like to make, it does not really changes anything, so there's no need to correct if you don't want to, but Dronnar couldn't manifest force screen a second time, since he can use only 2pp each fight, and he had already used them (force screen and offensive prescience). But it was a good fight. A pity that the final blow wasn't a crit, it would have been beautiful... |

| MitzaVolchenko02-06-06, 08:39 PM | A Sweaty Monk Grappling a Hot Tavern Singer. It's worth to see. I'm curious as to how with a standard move of 60' with Expeditious Retreat active, Rokk ever grappled Sybil when she stated ranged fight. He had no skate and no way to out move her with his 30' move being half her speed. This spell increases your base land speed by 30 feet. (This adjustment is treated as an enhancement bonus.) There is no effect on other modes of movement, such as burrow, climb, fly, or swim. As with any effect that increases your speed, this spell affects your jumping distance (see the Jump skill). I have no idea what Round Nine means...draws a circle? |

Yes, using Ray of frost instead of your crossbow would probably have won this battle for you, but the fact is, I'm not allowed to use tactics given after the original fight has been posted. Or more correctly, while I can, I wont. The list of Pitlord conduct which was posted on this thread before explains why I wont, really. |

Kedi, hey, I hate to tell yah, but you need to follow the rules of actual movement in the arena and unable to cut corners. He gets special changes made to sneak up on my PC but you won't use my PC's key offensive weapon to attack him? I didn't know about his Companion being illegal so I didn't know to write my rules as if the situation wouldn't occur. In every fight I have done I have use all of my Ray of Frost attacks after my first two Level one spells were used. This fight wouldn't have been any different. You've made special allowances for his PC to do things that were not in his original tactics but you didn't use my PC's main ability in his? I think this was unfair. If he had used Ray of Frost it would have hit him on Round 7 and that would change things considerably. Lastly and this is a big Deal I did say to use Ray of Frost in my tactics against Cid! This is in my original tactics (it was the very last thing I said). If Cid is within 30’ and Krayko still has Ray of Frost available use that spell first then use Crossbow. If he engages in Melee then use spear to defend and attack him. You specifically choose to ignore this in the fight and then told me you weren't going to consider the tactic. It was there from the start and should be used. I'm not asking you to use new tactics as this was always listed in my original tactics. Please consider this for Round 7 because it would change the outcome if I score 2 or more points of damage with it. |

My apologizes for not seeing this in your tactics; when you suggested it in your post I got locked into a 'post-fight tactics' mode of thought, which wasn't good :) As a note, I didn't give him special consideration for sneaking. He proceeded towards you in the most direct manner (Incurring a -5 penalty on all his sneaky checks each round), following his tactics to shoot at you, then get out his swords when he was close enough to charge/attack with both of them the turn after. After looking at the fight, all of your rolls after casting Magic Missile to dying are too low to hit with Ray of Frost. (You need a 9, you get a 8, 2, 7 in that order) If you still wish for me to edit in the use of Ray of Frost, I shall do so, which will save you two crossbow bolts. |

Well played. @ all: I hate to do this, but having procrastinated for far too long on my French homework, I will now have not enough time to run Evaine vs. Fjord. If this is the case, would it not be possible to turn around and Beat on that pesky pet? Man, that Sanctuary sure ruined my day. Good Fight, Telin. Actually, the DC is only 15 becuase she was entangled with a net. Here's the rule: Net: A net is used to entangle enemies. When you throw a net, you make a ranged touch attack against your target. A net’s maximum range is 10 feet. If you hit, the target is entangled. An entangled creature takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls and a –4 penalty on Dexterity, can move at only half speed, and cannot charge or run. If you control the trailing rope by succeeding on an opposed Strength check while holding it, the entangled creature can move only within the limits that the rope allows. If the entangled creature attempts to cast a spell, it must make a DC 15 Concentration check or be unable to cast the spell. An entangled creature can escape with a DC 20 Escape Artist check (a full-round action). The net has 5 hit points and can be burst with a DC 25 Strength check (also a full-round action). A net is useful only against creatures within one size category of you. A net must be folded to be thrown effectively. The first time you throw your net in a fight, you make a normal ranged touch attack roll. After the net is unfolded, you take a –4 penalty on attack rolls with it. It takes 2 rounds for a proficient user to fold a net and twice that long for a nonproficient one to do so. So it is only DC 15. The error I was refering to was I didn't make Concentration checks for the CLW's later in the fight, but yeah, the I did miss the +2 flanking when she had her flail out, but it still would not affect anything. |

I guess Krayko was just being dumb (despite his intelligence) and decided he hadn't worked on firing with his Crossbow enough. I would have been better off if he had the Creature with him. At least then I would have gotten more XP and money. My PC can't even win when luck gives him another chance. However I hate wasting money on expendables even cheap first level scrolls. I will just have to continue to wade through this crappy level till he makes it out of the doldrums. Thanks for your work and time, Karl |

| shadowmaster02-07-06, 01:58 AM | I won't be able to run this fight. Drac (Dracazar) vs. Trixie the Enchantress (Ariel23) : Shadowmaster If anybody is willing to take it, I will forwar the tactics to you. |

| MitzaVolchenko02-07-06, 02:35 AM | @lonewolf and Rith, I'll get your quests up tomorrow night. I am just plain feeling lousy. I am hoping it is sleep dep and not round two of the plague trying to get a grip on me. @Turin, I will take a print of your fight to work with me and see what happens. I might get the time to work on it. |
| Biota02-07-06, 02:48 AM | The rerun of Squall Leonhart (Dr.Funk) vs. Logan Granger (Snommelp) (ECL 3) is up here. I tried to reuse all dice rolls from the first fight which probably made doing this rerun take longer than if I had just rerolled everything, but it seemed like the right thing to do. Biota |

| kedi02-07-06, 04:05 AM | Errr.. Kedi, hey, I hate to tell yah, but you need to follow the rules of actual movement in the arena and unable to cut corners. Also, you cannot charge over an obsticle. This would be the actual legal last move. But you would need to go back throughout the other rounds to actually move correctly. This is a double move because the individual cannot charge over an obsticle. I know you can't charge over an obstacle, which, there was no obstacle. Edit: Thank you, Ariel. |
| Abyssal Stalker02-07-06, 04:41 AM | @Warclone: I checked out the FFA fight and I think that you didn't run Manzarf quite right at the end of the battle. You didn't use rage at all and didn't try to sunder his greatsword. Those extra hp's would've at least kept me there for a round or two more. It could've changed the outcome of the fight. I'd appreciate it if you checked the final duel of Manzarf and Maeril, but I can live with it if you don't get the time to do this! |
| Stormwind02-07-06, 07:02 AM | @Macbrea: I am aware that the fight is still in the process of being run, however there are a couple of errors in the Cyra vs Perius fight that I would like to bring to your attention: Round 2: Cyra starts this round at 20ft elevation and then double moves to the ceiling at a speed of 20ft. That means she should have an elevation of 50ft at the end of this round (not 45ft) Round 3: Cyra does absolutely nothing this round ... yep nothing, whereas my tactics specifically state that she should draw the elixir and drink it (which you do have her do in round 4). I'm guessing this is just an oversight. Round 6: Perius runs as a full round action twice in this round. Again I'm guessing that this is an oversight and should be his actions for round 6 and 7. Storm P.S. I hope you are feeling a bit better today |

That means she should have an elevation of 50ft at the end of this round (not 45ft) Elevation is always determined from where your lowest point is. As the arena has a ceiling at 50ft. And you lack the ability to meld with stone or pass through stone without hinderance. Your considered a 5ft by 5ft by 5ft cube in 3.5. Therefore, your lowest elevation is 45ft. Sorry, on the others. Though your are still stuck with waiting one round the next round as pretty much you spot your opponent run to the opposite side of the arena looking for you but he moves out of LOS before your action. |

| Usurpator02-07-06, 01:12 PM | @Warclone & Abyssal Stalker @Warclone: I checked out the FFA fight and I think that you didn't run Manzarf quite right at the end of the battle. Warclone, thanks for running the fight. I noticed several issues too in the last few rounds. Generally Maeril's tactics came out roughly as intended, so I am glad with that. Since Maeril won the fight, you don't need to edit on m account, since I think the outcome (with the rolls being as they are), will not change. - Manzarf indeed didn't sunder as stated in tactics. Warclone already rolled one opposed check, and we see that the first attempt failed. In case the fight needs to be edited further, note that Maeril has cast magic weapon on his greatsword, which raises its hit points by 10. So Manzarf will need two succesfull Sunder attacks to destroy the greatsword, after which can just switch to his lance. Generally, I think trying to Sunder while raging would diminish Manzarf's chances to win in the current scenario. - Manzarf also didn't rage as stated. But Maeril also didn't cast a ray of enfeeblement as per his tactics. The ray should negate the extra Str from the rage. The extra hp. gained by the rage would be negated by an attack from Maeril's horse, which currently misses by one point, and would have hit if Manzarf had he been raging (and received -2 to AC). So I don't think this would change much too. - I don't think Maeril (or anyone) can 'fastmount' when he is prone, I am pretty sure they intended fastmount for standing characters. But if Maeril just stands up, the only effect will be that he receives the AoO that was now rolled in round 11 in round 10 instead, and we see that AoO fails to trip Maeril, so that won't change the outcome either. There are a few other slight issues, but I don't need to nitpick over the fight unless Abyssal Stalker thinks he still has serious issues. About the rewards: Maeril has brought a CR1 Ally (Inspiration), which means the totals should be: Maeril earns: 1,200+400+400+400 = 2,400 -12,5% = 2100 gp/xp Manzarf earns: 400+400+400 = 1,200 +4,175% = 1250 gp/xp +76gp Zwei earns: 400+400 =800 + 4,175% = 833 gp/xp +52gp Tsi earns: 400 + 4,175% = 417 gp/xp and trains Sehk the 'seek' trick. |

I'm noticing such a trend myself, and I can't say that I'm helping any. One actual fight this week, and I'm having to look for someone else to take it. School is taking over my life; I've asked Pitlords to give me less fights starting this coming week. |
| Ariel2302-07-06, 01:53 PM | I won't be able to run this fight. Drac (Dracazar) vs. Trixie the Enchantress (Ariel23) : Shadowmaster If anybody is willing to take it, I will forwar the tactics to you. This will obviously get held over, although it could probably be run in an hour. This is a full Lvl 4 Wizard against a Lvl 4 sorceress specializing in enchantments against an elf. Trixie basically knows one spell: Hideous Laughter. She isn't using any expendables other than crossbow bolts. You could probably just make 2 saving throws for Drac, and if he makes them both, she'd surrender. As Drac is a full wizard, his rounds might be a bit more complex. I'd run it if Drac would let me, but then I'd probably have to use an online die-roller, and I'm avoiding that on general principle (plus this was the last week to not use it :) ). |
| Ariel2302-07-06, 02:04 PM | I'm noticing such a trend myself...I'd decided this week instead of pitlording to write a story for one fight each week (or more), but so many of the fights are late, it makes it either difficult or pointless (no one will read it next week). There are usually some very simple fights that go up early (monster fights, e.g.) and some others. But you don't want to write up one of those too soon, because they could get a complete re-run. :yuck: As an aside, this trend is why I asked for a slight change (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8381082&postcount=111) in prison procedures (technically a change to the Rules, not the prison)...namely, to allow a player to edit his/her sheet once his character has been publicly posted as part of a fight/pre-fight. It is easy to quote the prison rules and make all violators out to be the bad guy, but often it is your pitlord that will land you in jail. All of my fights this week are being held over...if I had any violations I could end up in prison, myself. |

On another note; Seems Luni is working on the ECL5 free for all - White hand vs. Nycalik vs. Shaz vs. Hassan. Rolls over here (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?u=Nycalik+vs+Hassan+vs+Shaz+vs+W&page=0&n=20) Seems Nycalik had a lucky start, but then Hassan had some lucky escapes. White hand is still buffing. Shaz is taking pot shots. Up to round 9 now... |
| Ayrynthyn02-07-06, 03:00 PM | Don't take this the wrong way...but you do realize that it is *already late, right? For those in the US, the deadline was early this morning. I thought it was 9pm GMT Tuesday. Not sure where that time poked itself in my brain, but.... oops :embarrass anyway, Hexacious Pogboomer (Turin) vs. Theoricus (bgt) (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8417542&postcount=193) is complete in crunch. i need to desiminate the rewards, but i'd appreciate a once over. Anything you guys see wrong before i get to comfy here. Especially that invisible/tanglefoot/glued aspect... |
| Turin02-07-06, 03:02 PM | If it seems like I'm jumping in really quickly, it's because I saw these errors earlier and didn't wanted to post until you were done. I see a whole handful of errors... These two errors could have effected the outcome considerably, but through dumb luck they didn't, so don't bother worrying about them:Round 2: Why does Dr. Pogboomer cast invisibility in Round 2, when my tactics state only to ready to cast it upon seeing an astral construct appear? Round 3: Why does Dr. Pogboomer cast detect magic here instead of later after he's buffed, as per my tactics? The whole point of doing detect magic last in that sequence is that I have to concentrate on it. If Theoricus had moved while invisible, I would have lost track of him after Round 7 and would be totally S-O-L for the rest of the fight. Also, astral construct has a manifestation time of 1 round, which means the construct shouldn't appear until Round 4 (and that Theoricus shouldn't move this round). Round 9: Again, astral construct has a manifestation time of 1 round. This means that Construct #1 shouldn't appear until Round 10 and Construct #2 shouldn't appear until Round 12 (but see the grappling problem below). If thematic rolls are kept, Construct #1 won't connect with a hit until Round 13, and won't land the killing blow until Round 15 (assuming Construct #2 is prevented from appearing and that I'm still in melee with Theoricus at this point). Round 10: You've made two errors on the attempt to grapple. First, there's no miss chance roll for Theoricus' invisibility. Second, you're using my grapple check modifier (-5) for the initial touch attack. The initial touch attack should use my normal melee attack modifier (+1). This means I just barely miss in Round 10 and should connect in Round 11, quite possibly preventing Theoricus from manifesting the second astral construct. I understand that bgt got tactics to you very late, but the rules say you can run the fight with the default tactics if they're not received on time... in fact, you'll see that his default tactics are more clearly defined than (and essentially the same as) the ones he posted to you. Obviously I disagree with the results and would like an edit if at all possible. But given the short time remaining before I need to make my own edits, if you can't get to it then I'll just have to live with it. |

Like I said earlier, I can live with the outcome as it is. I don't see any big rules mistakes (or maybe the prone fast mounting) that would make any big differences. We could babble endlessly if tactics were run correctly, but that probably wouldn't get us anywhere... Usurpator, I salute the winner - allthough Manzarf will remember this and will probably stab a poisoned dagger through Maerils heart one dark night... And Warclone, thanks for pitlording - the fight was entertaining! |

I may have (apparently inappropriately) read in that you wanted to go invisible prior to engaging. Round 3: Why does Dr. Pogboomer cast detect magic here instead of later after he's buffed, as per my tactics? The whole point of doing detect magic last in that sequence is that I have to concentrate on it. If Theoricus had moved while invisible, I would have lost track of him after Round 7 and would be totally S-O-L for the rest of the fight. i got a little out of whack with your sequence because you had drawing items, and scrolls whith hands full, and casting with hands full, so i needed to split them out over rounds and make a call on which were most important and attempting to stay within your premis. I hope i did well, and yes, had he heard you in rnd 7 (??) he would have moved. but as you mentioned, dumb luck saved the day on that... Also, astral construct has a manifestation time of 1 round, which means the construct shouldn't appear until Round 4 (and that Theoricus shouldn't move this round). Also, if you do manage to grapple, i think the previous construct hits because youd loose your dex bonus to AC. I will review though... gimme a few Round 10: You've made two errors on the attempt to grapple. First, there's no miss chance roll for Theoricus' invisibility. Second, you're using my grapple check modifier (-5) for the initial touch attack. The initial touch attack should use my normal melee attack modifier (+1). | King Uther02-07-06, 03:26 PM | @lonewolf Darius has no protection from Summon Swarm(bats). They auto damage when they move into his square and do not need an attack roll, 1d6 damage and bleeding. Protection From Evil would do the trick, but he did not use that. |

| Ariel2302-07-06, 04:16 PM | @warclone and i suppose anyone involved in - Zwei (MitzaVolchenko) vs. Maeril (Usurpator) vs. Manzarf (Abyssal Stalker) vs. Tsiuzues (Skojar) [All-vs-All] Fight here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8414876&postcount=188) (18+x AC18) The touch hits, (19+11 vs 10+14) and succeds tripping Tsi off his mount. I'm extremely curious about this trip attempt. I'm not involved in the fight, it's just that there should almost never be numbers that high in a Trip. Someone would generally need to be enlarged. For this particular fight, it would be Manzarf d20 + 3 (Str) +4 (feat) vs Tsizues d20 +3 (dex) -4 (size) +4 (4 legs) which is d20+7 vs d20+3. Anyway, it doesn't affect the outcome of the trip attempt in the slightest, was just wondering. @Turin: Given the mistakes in this fight and the lack of time left to fix them, I'm offerenig you a draw. Do you accept? There's no such thing, unfortunately. |

Do you accept?I'm not sure there's any provision for draws in the Gladius Rules. And in any event, it looks like Ayrynthyn is going to try to do an edit. We've still got roughly 24 hours before our character editing deadline, so I suggest we let him take a crack at it. Ordinarily I might just wave my hand and say, "oh well, call it a loss," but I've got two fights in dispute this week and I think both of them have a good chance of resulting in wins. This fight has the more glaring of errors. |

| bgt02-07-06, 04:53 PM | There's no such thing, unfortunately. *sigh* Very well then. You know, something really outta be done about that. What if someone had a contingiant fireball set for their death, then got coup de graced? Or an archer used manyshot and a psion used return shot to throw one of the arrows back at him? |

The character who dies first loses. Simple. A good example (and one I'm sure happens rather frequently here) is a barbarian gladiator who rages but then falls before his "bonus" hit points. If he kills his opponent before his rage wears off, he wins, even though he technically dies as soon as the his rage is over. |

Actually, if a wizard fireballed his square while being grappled and both characters reached -10 at the same time. It could possibly be a draw. |
| Usurpator02-07-06, 05:21 PM | @Abyssal Stalker: Yeah, the prone mounting was a little weird. I am glad fortune smiled upon Maeril this week, after losing a few battles to the dice while the odds were in his favor, for he won while the odds were slightly against him. But the good and just are victorious over the foul and evil once more! Maeril hopes Manzarf has been taught his lesson and is coming around to see the errors of his ways... :) Maeril is secure in the knowledge that he has powerful friends with the Celestial Forces who will watch his back from treachery from Manzarf. |
| Ayrynthyn02-07-06, 06:14 PM | If it seems like I'm jumping in really quickly, it's because I saw these errors earlier and didn't wanted to post until you were done. Also, astral construct has a manifestation time of 1 round, which means the construct shouldn't appear until Round 4 (and that Theoricus shouldn't move this round). not entirely true... he manifests at the end of 3, it shows up just before his turn on 4 Manifesting Time Most powers have a manifesing time of 1 standard action. Others take 1 round or more, while a few require only a free action. A power that takes 1 round to manifest requires a full-round action. It comes into effect just before the beginning of your turn in the round after you began manifesting the power. You then act normally after the power is completed. In this case, the full round action completes in 4, and the construct can get it's turn appropriatly. Since it doesnt affect anything i left this alone. Ok... Bad news. i reviewed from round 9 on. I shifted the arrival of the constructs down by one round. Your round 10 Grapple still misses. In Round 11, i fixed the modifier for you to hit (so you do hit), and i just rolled additionaly to resolve the grapple. your check vs Theo's dex . What i missed was that the grapple attempts provoke AoO from the construct. This kept all the attack rolls basically in the same rounds, and i just shifted them up as appropriate. Bottom line is you still die in round 12, but you actually die earlier. In the AoO resolution phase on your turn instead of Theo's. ...let me know what you think. |
| Luni02-07-06, 06:29 PM | OK. My 4way FFA is up here. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8419273&postcount=195) |
| TheMagister02-07-06, 07:30 PM | @Luni - consider the Imp. Feint thing as PAYBACK for Imperi's eagles. =) I'm looking over the fight now. Looks like a good job so far and I'm not going to nitpick. TM |
| MitzaVolchenko02-07-06, 08:33 PM | I know you can't charge over an obstacle, which, there was no obstacle. Edit: Thank you, Ariel. Not that you are required to, but I really would appreciate a reconsideration of that fight. In no way should someone moving half my speed ever have been anywhere near Sybil. Additionally, I still want to know what draws a circle in round nine means. Losig that fight puts Sybil dangerously close to a failure tag for absolutely no reason. |
| Turin02-07-06, 09:48 PM | not entirely true... he manifests at the end of 3, it shows up just before his turn on 4Sure, but it takes a Full Round Action on Round 3 to manifest it. Again, doesn't affect the fight.Ok... Bad news. <snip> ...let me know what you think.Well, you're wrong about the AoO's.... You provoke an attack of opportunity from the target you are trying to grapple.(Emphasis mine) However, a quick look-through shows that I would be hit and killed in Round 13 before I could possibly drop my opponent or escape their attacks, so I'll concede the battle as is. For future battles, I'd suggest you brush up on the grappling rules and whatever psionic powers you're going to see in the fight (for a hint... most psionic powers have the same manifesting time as their equivalent spells; astral construct vs summon monster in this case). But thanks for running the fight. And thanks a ton for making the edit, even if it didn't go my way. I know things were getting down to the wire on time for everyone, so I want you to know I appreciate the extra effort even if it didn't go my way. Thanks. |
| TheMagister02-07-06, 09:51 PM | @Luni - I have absolutely NO problems with the fight (well, there IS one minor one, but its not really important...You didn't have Essence make a Reflex save vs. the Blinding Shield. Elementals can indeed be blinded!). All in all, I don't feel badly about how my character did in a stand up fight: he ate through an awful lot of HPs (darned overpowered Vigor). Oddly, I didn't get as much mileage out of Blacklight as I thought I would. I guess 5 rounds really isn't all that long, unless you're wielding a flame blade and feinting in combat, which would pretty much make you hit darned near all the time. Thanks for running it! TM |
| King Uther02-07-06, 11:38 PM | @lonewolf Oops. Clearly I did not look at the fight as closely as I thought. My bad. I'm not even going to look through this thread to find your correction of me. What can you do? Not much, I suppose. Good job with the fight. |
| MitzaVolchenko02-08-06, 12:18 AM | @lonewolf Education Gone Awry (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=8263900#post8263900) is complete except for wrap up rp. My dice seem to love you. I was looking forward to Karen being a victim of essentially herself gone mad and my dice said no. @Rith I am holding your fight over and we'll do two weeks worth this week. I couldn't get my map to host up properly and it is important that you see it. I realized that upon reading your tactics. As this won't effect pairings, I think it best that I just take the loss of credit for this week and give you full benefit of the map. It has been a rough week for me in RL. Next week I am cutting down to just finishing up your quest and writing up my campaign. @kedi Since I will not be able to edit without the fight being reconsidered/edited , and I truly feel that the loss is unacceptable with the complete misrun of movement and tactics, I am going to ask for a hold over on Sybil's fight. Do not allow him to get in charging distance/line. What does draws a circle around the arena mean? It seems to mean go give him a bear hug. 30'move vs. 60'move means he CANNOT get to me short of the end of expeditious retreat even allowing illegal movements. Lacking the enlarge he cannot even get the 75' with reach weapon that he specifies in his tactics. I have included a request for holdover in my PM or activities to Pitlords. If the fight is re-run before 1:30pm EST tomorrow I might still get an edit in, but i don't know if TroubleWolf could do likewise. @TroubleWolf I'm sorry to insist on the re-run but your tactics even acknowledged that you had no way to reach me short of a reaching 75' enlarged spear charge which I can negate easily with a single withdraw or run round. Sybil's record is bad enough with the FFA's kicking it off, that I really can't afford losses with her that aren't 100% because she was overwhelmed or tactics as written failed. |

Trixie basically knows one spell: Hideous Laughter. She isn't using any expendables other than crossbow bolts. You could probably just make 2 saving throws for Drac, and if he makes them both, she'd surrender. As Drac is a full wizard, his rounds might be a bit more complex. | kedi02-08-06, 12:50 PM | @Mitza: The wall was not standing in between you and your opponent, so he was free to charge. There were no obstacles between the two of you. Drawing a circle means moving around in circles, in this fight's case, moving at quarter-circle. You could see this if you checked the coordinants. And I tried my best to figure out your movements with the basic tactics I've recieved. The arena does not really have that many obstacles that one can use to avoid charge-melee-whatever, and even then, I've menaged to make Sybil dodge some good. |

| Macbrea02-08-06, 02:00 PM | Yup, basicly.. that was what I was trying to say when he stated there wasn't any obstacles. It is possible for someone with a 30ft movement to lure someone with a 60ft movement in close enough to charge them. But the person at 60ft movement has to not be trying to use cover. |

The arena has a plethora of columns and the small rocks count to break charge and count as cover for small and medium creatures. Additionally the lines you ran him through required him to pass portions of his anatomy through solid surfaces. I agree that in theory, if Sybil had an INT of 6 or less she might get lured into going to the wall as he specified to try in his tactic in order to get a clear shot, but as she would have attacked first, he would be the one in violation of ten round delay for hiding and waiting to try to force her into an unfavorable move. I have requested the re-run and if TroubleWolf agrees, Cat has granted it. Regardless if whether it is granted, I will not be updating Sybil for this week thanks to the lateness of response to the matter. |

| TheMagister02-08-06, 03:20 PM | Attitude? I thought Mitza was being very patient with you... Just my outside-looking-in opinion. Oh. And the invalid charge is a pretty big rules issue, since it ended up killing the character on the receiving end, imo. TM |

And the invalid charge is a pretty big rules issue, since it ended up killing the character on the receiving end, imo. TMCharge is valid. And I don't know about Macbrea's map, but it's not the way I saw things -there is nothing in between two gladiators. Period. Make note that charging characted is Medium, he takes one square, while Macbrea's map showed it occupying 4 squares. Regardless, he was standing three squares behind the wall, and he could've passed it and charged -in a straigth line. I don't think - see anything wrong with the duel's outcome, and if it does mean anything as being the match's pitlord, that's my ruling. |

But consider this -If he moved a (-1, 0) more, still being able to perfom his attack, and no obstacles in between -does it really matter at this point? If I must; http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;a=Name,M,-22,-3,-26,-13;style=s;opacity=65 If you don't think that's convincing enough, I can move Rokk a step behind, because I wanted him to hide but still be able to charge if need be. So we have this; http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;a=Name,M,-22,-2,-25,-13;style=s;opacity=65 (Which, I always considered Rokk to be two squares behind the wall. Maybe I miss places the coordinants). I can even put him to (-1, 0) more. Like this; http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;a=Name,M,-23,-3,-25,-13;style=s;opacity=65 This is not a math I'd like to explode my head over, because since Rokk's told to charge whenever possible, and I can find a way to do it if I want to. At worst, I could have made him move a little more in (0, +x) coordinant, and Sybil would keep moving around until it was too late. All in all, I don't think Sybil can survive it, and I don't believe it does matter for the fight. I already dealt long time figuring how to play Sybil with such a short tactic, and Rokk's tactics allowed me more about him. I don't think Sybil can survive after this, but if you still don't like the idea, I'm not going to try to explain it again. Feel free to penaltize me if need be, and if rerun's gonna happen, so be it. I just don't see this happening, and I'm too tired to explain it - debate on it. |

First, I'm sorry you're frustrated. I'm not trying to punish you. I wasn't involved in the fight at all. I'm just trying to see what you're seeing. Every single one of the examples you posted has Rokk moving through a 5' high rock, though. The one right next to where he stops moving, directly between his starting and ending positions. He's not allowed to do that on a charge. He must go, in a straight line, from his starting position to closest possible space where he can attack. If that straight line takes him through difficult terrain or through an obstacle, he can't charge. Anyway, no more from me, as it's obviously just going to anger you. |
| Ariel2302-08-06, 07:39 PM | The fight Drac vs Trixie (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8423959&postcount=198) is up! @Ariel: I hope, you are OK with it. I used the tactic you posted above. If there are any concerns, a rerun is necessary, since I do not have the time to change anything. Sorry, I hope this was a little help. If this had been a "real" fight I would be pretty upset about a fight with no tactics. But, this whole fight hinged on saving throws, so there really wasn't much for Trixie to do except roll better. At least she didn't spend any money. I'm sad because my fight went up so late, I had a VERY small time window in which to edit my sheet to say "Ready for next week" and so Trixie loses a week of time. :( |
| MitzaVolchenko02-08-06, 09:44 PM | Make note I do not have to respond. There has been only one rules issue, and I've handled it right in time. Responding to players' issues and re-running are not obligatory, they are up to pitlord's discret. I could've ignored because there is not any issues with rules, and the fight would've been done. I'm surprised if Cat has actually given you the permission for the match has to be rerun. Regardless, I won't re-run it this week, and if the fight's going to be rerun, please do not appoint me to it -I'm alright with the credit cost. Edited to avoid misunderstanding First, kedi, I am sorry if I came across too strongly. The movement restraints do not permit the movements used. That is a clear rules boo boo. It hapens and lord knows I have nerfed a fight from time to time. This is the first week I did not have time to fix one that I goofed badly on. I admitted the error to Cat and said that I would not object to a hold over but that Tuin had let me off the hook. I appreciated that greatly. Second, I am disturbed by your statement that you could find a way to do it if you wanted to. That implies a rather not cool bias simply because I objected. Finally, had I known you felt my tactics were too vague, I would have clarified them for you. I am available via pm,email, and four different IM's. You are correct that re-runs and edits are not mandatory. They are a courtesy that we try to give whenever possible. I commented with questions as soon as I saw the fight and got no response for some time. Had I received an explanation that made any sense earlier, I might have conceded the fight just to save the stress for everyone. However, the insistence that the illegal movement is legal may mean that more porblems arise in future fights. As far as I know you do not get a credit loss simply because it is re-run for rules reasons. I would not wish for you to lose credits. I simply want to see a legally run fight with my core tactics followed. @ lonewolf and Dr. Funk rewards for quest corrected |

However, I did also ask myself "What position is favourable for Sybil to avoid Charge and melee this turn." What I implied is that even if he could not move to the exact square, moving to just another square next to it, where he can still reach you. Sorry if I sounded too harsh, I actually didn't mean it. |
