| waywreth07-25-07, 12:13 PM | Fights of the Week: July 25th Please don't edit the sheet after the deadline or you will lose the match. Rules of Gladius All that you need to know is written in the Rules of Gladius. It could be useful also to give a look to the Court Decisions Part 1 and Part 2. Please do not make fake accounts or insult the Elders. Pairings GM MindwandererB will pair the active Characters of Gladius after the deadline. Link to pairings. Make sure that your character is not in prison. Pitlording You should use the CoCo Dice Roller (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com) for the fight. If you need it, there is a nice template ready to use that will help. You could find the Battle Map Tag Generator (http://www.hwx.it/coco) for dynamic Maps very useful. You must post a link to your fight in this thread when it is complete. If you need a quick and dirty tool to calculate distances between two points (in 2-D or 3-D), this tool used to suffice until it got taken down without giving us proper notification... the Nerve Another useful link is the Quick Access tables for XP and Gold. If a fight needs to be rerun, the Pitlord has to inform the Pitlords account. He cannot react to requests from Players because the other player and the pitlord might disagree. He has no time to read the fight and the discussion. Please keep that in mind. PMs from players with rerun requests won't have an impact. Recent News and Developments Current discussions in the council are still up for debate. In the coming weeks, Lighting is expected to be added into the mix. Stay tuned for more details. Denth is coming - but who will he attack first? Comments & Concerns Post any comments or concerns for this weeks fights in this thread. Be kind and courteous to your fellow posters, and don't feed the pitlords. Please remember that they do hard work and consume a lot of time to let you play. Above all, have FUN! If you have questions or comments on any of the changes, please make your posts be heard in the Council of Gladius! |

| SauroGrenom07-25-07, 06:51 PM | I set Retikos to active. Got it finished some time yesterday, so I'm sure it was before the deadline. So I think that was missed in the pairings. It's OK if he misses out, but it will could result in him being mid cycle when the denth campaign starts up, or in the least it will result in loosing out on a week of full activity crafting after this 3FC is finished. |

| Salrantol07-25-07, 07:34 PM | @Yitzi: Tactics for Kilor Mintolo and a well-rested Salrantol Vakt sent via PM. I thought he was supposed to be a pushover? :P :w: |

| Yitzi07-25-07, 07:56 PM | He was until he took the monk level for +5 AC and items for another 2. |
| Macbrea07-25-07, 09:20 PM | Had those items... the +5 AC was from monk 1... |
| Macbrea07-25-07, 09:34 PM | Tactics sent for Razorfang... those were a bit.. obscene.... And yes, he is still a pushover for another level. He cannot take leadership for a bow until then. |

| TheMagister07-25-07, 11:30 PM | Tactics for Rubi vs. Lightwolf vs. Reggie sent. |
| TheMagister07-26-07, 01:57 AM | @Zevox: just a reminder about Tessero's shiny new Adamantine armor and the DR 3/-. You missed it in his last fight and it caused him to go down early (not that it would've mattered). |
| Zevox07-26-07, 02:07 AM | @Zevox: just a reminder about Tessero's shiny new Adamantine armor and the DR 3/-. You missed it in his last fight and it caused him to go down early (not that it would've mattered). Such reminders tend to work best when put in the tactics, not posts I'll have likely forgotten about by the time I run the fight ;) . Zevox |
| MindWandererB07-26-07, 02:09 AM | Ummmm...did you forget someone? I should have 2 active characters and an administration credit. Whoops! You're easy to miss, since all you get is the admin credit, and minus a credit or two every other week for activations. |
| TheMagister07-26-07, 03:30 AM | Such reminders tend to work best when put in the tactics, not posts I'll have likely forgotten about by the time I run the fight ;) . Zevox I thought 3 PMs might be a tad too much space to take up. |

| Sunwolf07-26-07, 03:10 PM | @Zevox Tactics for Brilf sent by PM |
| Zevox07-26-07, 03:36 PM | @ Telin - Tactics for Archdevil Asran (vs Gareth Irontower) have been PMed. Finally, a good-aligned opponent for him - he'll get to use some abilities in that match that hes rarely or never had the opportunity to use before. Zevox |
| Yitzi07-26-07, 03:51 PM | Razorfang vs. Kilor is up. |
| MindWandererB07-26-07, 03:56 PM | @lonewolf and templer: tactics for Maya and Kervan sent. Fighting Zodiac is scary. He's not a pathetically weak opponent, he mostly just has really miserable luck (and few ways of finishing off an opponent). And if Maya loses to him, her power rating drops by 463! |
| templer1007-26-07, 04:40 PM | Lord lorian tactics are out - longest i had to do in a while. |
| Salrantol07-26-07, 04:54 PM | @Macbrea: Isn't it cheating to have Razorfang's tactics longer than two words? Not grappling threw off all my tactics. Although, I feel bad for whomever the duo faces next week, as Salrantol has 27 pp left to throw around. |
| Salrantol07-26-07, 05:01 PM | @Yitzi: It ended up not mattering, but the damage rolls should have been 5d6 + whatever. Enlarged greatsword is 3d6 + 2d6 deepcrystal. Also, you must not have looked at the picture of Kilor, since you kept referring to her with male pronouns.... |
| Macbrea07-26-07, 05:14 PM | Ah.. come on.. I wanted the worg to crush the paladin to death after grappling her with his body.. :P Oh, well... |
| Eluria07-26-07, 05:16 PM | @Salrantol: Tactics for Phaelen v Formian Warrior sent; good luck! Tactics received from both for the ECL3 fight Raelin/WarMachine, I hope to get to it tonight, no promises. |
| Rauul07-26-07, 05:56 PM | @Yitzi: It ended up not mattering, but the damage rolls should have been 5d6 + whatever. Enlarged greatsword is 3d6 + 2d6 deepcrystal. Also, you must not have looked at the picture of Kilor, since you kept referring to her with male pronouns.... Yitzi may have to count up your pps as you charged it 2 times (2pps per charge) and the damage may of been off a tad.. 3d6 greatsword, 2d6 Psi weapon, 2d6 deep crystal.. Sorry Razor.. |
| Salrantol07-26-07, 06:34 PM | Yitzi may have to count up your pps as you charged it 2 times (2pps per charge) and the damage may of been off a tad.. 3d6 greatsword, 2d6 Psi weapon, 2d6 deep crystal.. Sorry Razor..His count is right, since 2 pp was from Bestow Power, so doesn't count against Kilor. Also, Kilor doesn't have Psionic Weapon yet (next feat though). |
| Salrantol07-26-07, 06:36 PM | Phaelen Ir'Kensor vs. Formian Warrior is up. About what the player expected. Low BAB does not an effective toe-to-toe combatant make. While tripping may have been a sound strategy, if you miss your grab attempt, it doesn't work. Hopefully, Phaelen improves once he levels. |

While tripping may have been a sound strategy, if you miss your grab attempt, it doesn't work. | Salrantol07-26-07, 07:12 PM | looking at the fight I notice that Phaelen should do an AoO in round4. If he trips the formian there, the whole thing might go another way...well, the thematic rolls thing'll suck down the miss from round 5, but it gives you a chance to trip him in round 5. I'll fix it soon. |
| TheMagister07-26-07, 07:17 PM | Phaelen Ir'Kensor vs. Formian Warrior is up. The formian warrior drinks his tattoo of Force Screen. :D |

| TheMagister07-26-07, 07:25 PM | Oh, I noticed. I thought the mental image of the first action was the funnier of the two. Drinking a tattoo? Is that like giving yourself a hickey? |
| Zevox07-26-07, 07:58 PM | :heehee I love this place. :D Zevox P.S. @ Erithmu - Mithos' tactics may not be sent until tomorrow. I'm trying to come up with something to give him good odds, but its not looking good. Damn what I wouldn't give for him to be one level higher - Dispel Magic would be so useful in that fight... |
| Eluria07-26-07, 09:45 PM | I've started working on the War Machine vs. Ralein fight, and since this is my first time dealing with CoCo's rules for hiding/spotting, I was wondering if someone could tell me whether I have gotten the situation here correct. From what I understand, since Ralein ended his turn with cover, he's pressed up against those shadows/pillars, hidden even though War Machine gets LOS to him. I'd welcome any corrections or assurances that this is correct. Thanks! |
| TheMagister07-26-07, 09:54 PM | MAN, this is a touchy subject. Additional question add-on: if a shadowdancer need only be within 10' of a pillar to hide in plain sight (b/c there are always shadows near objects), couldn't the rogue in this situation be considered hidden? He: 1) began hidden, 2) is within 5' of cover and has 6 ranks in his Hide skill, and 3) is certainly within the shadows generated by the cover (concealment). |
| Yitzi07-26-07, 10:01 PM | @Yitzi: It ended up not mattering, but the damage rolls should have been 5d6 + whatever. Enlarged greatsword is 3d6 + 2d6 deepcrystal. Also, you must not have looked at the picture of Kilor, since you kept referring to her with male pronouns.... I forgot about the increased size of the sword. As for the pronouns, I thought I fixed those. |
| Eluria07-26-07, 10:03 PM | MAN, this is a touchy subject. He: 1) began hidden, 2) is within 5' of cover and has 6 ranks in his Hide skill, and 3) is certainly within the shadows generated by the cover (concealment). Yeah, that's what I was getting at. I feel like he's hidden. But I also feel like that's not going to be unanimous. So I am pausing here to see what others have to say (I would prefer not NiQil or Callix, obviously) |
| Erithmu07-26-07, 10:57 PM | P.S. @ Erithmu - Mithos' tactics may not be sent until tomorrow. I'm trying to come up with something to give him good odds, but its not looking good. Damn what I wouldn't give for him to be one level higher - Dispel Magic would be so useful in that fight... It's ok ... I haven't gotten a single set of tactics yet ... |
| Zevox07-26-07, 11:01 PM | MAN, this is a touchy subject. Two problems: 1) Shadows do not provide cover/concealment, and so being within them is of no use to anyone without a Shadowdancer or Assassin's Hide-in-Plain-Sight. 2) Being within your hide ranks of cover doesn't allow you to hide. If you distract a foe with a bluff, you can move that distance to the cover to hide. If you are moving during your turn and stay within that distance of cover/concealment, you're allowed to hide due to a house rule of ours. If its the opponent's turn and they move and negate your cover/concealment, as in this case, you're screwed unless you have HiPS, which the character in question does not. Zevox |
| MindWandererB07-26-07, 11:04 PM | Yeah, that's what I was getting at. I feel like he's hidden. But I also feel like that's not going to be unanimous. So I am pausing here to see what others have to say (I would prefer not NiQil or Callix, obviously) Actually, no. Without HiPS, you need to actually have cover or concealment to hide, with the sole exception that you only have to be within 1'/rank of Hide of cover or concealment while moving between hiding places. Since it's War Machine's turn at this point, he gets the auto-spot. The 1'/rank rule applies only while you're moving. |
| TheMagister07-26-07, 11:06 PM | Two problems: 1) Shadows do not provide cover/concealment, and so being within them is of no use to anyone without a Shadowdancer or Assassin's Hide-in-Plain-Sight. 2) Being within your hide ranks of cover doesn't allow you to hide. Zevox Shadows don't provide concealment? Sure they do! I mean, it says that being in shadows is one way to gain concealment. Page 152 of the PHB, under Concealment, 2nd paragraph. |

Page 152 of the PHB, under Concealment, 2nd paragraph. Ah...no wonder so many thieves carry parasols! "You can't see me -- I'm under an umbrella!" ;) |
| MindWandererB07-26-07, 11:26 PM | Shadows don't provide concealment? Sure they do! I mean, it says that being in shadows is one way to gain concealment. Page 152 of the PHB, under Concealment, 2nd paragraph. Really dark shadows (a "shadowy area") provide concealment. Plain old mini-shadows are only adequate for a shadowdancer. |
| Zevox07-26-07, 11:28 PM | Shadows don't provide concealment? Sure they do! I mean, it says that being in shadows is one way to gain concealment. Page 152 of the PHB, under Concealment, 2nd paragraph. So then you'd say that standing in your opponent's shadow gives you concealment? MWB has the only interpretation that makes sense. Basic shadows do not provide concealment. It takes a more heavily shadowed area (see: the lighting rules we're implementing soon) to do that. Zevox |
| Salrantol07-26-07, 11:39 PM | Oh, I noticed. I thought the mental image of the first action was the funnier of the two. Drinking a tattoo? Is that like giving yourself a hickey?Hey--the rules never define what is required to "tap" a tattoo--maybe that's what everybody does and we just haven't realized it yet. |
| Macbrea07-26-07, 11:49 PM | Actually.. it does... Activation A psionic tattoo produces its effect when touched by its wearer and willed to do so. This activity, called “tapping” the tattoo, is a standard action that provokes attacks of opportunity. A psionic tattoo fades away after use. So.. it must be able to be touched, it takes a standard action and provokes an attack of oppurtunity. |
| Salrantol07-27-07, 12:05 AM | I still liked my answer better. :( Anyway, the egoist vs. the tattoo-drinking ant-thing fight is updated, but no change, as Eluria forgot that formians have 4 legs and are therefore tough to trip. :w: |
| Callix07-27-07, 02:42 AM | Eluria: I know you didn't want me to comment, but Ralein is not hidden. He doesn't have cover. However, he does have cover until War Machine starts his second move. So while he sees me, he can't act on it, and I can run behind another pillar. Which is about the extent of my tactics. Of course, I'm not an elder, so feel free to ignore me. |
| Eluria07-27-07, 06:03 AM | Thank you all for your help; at least I don't feel like it was a dumb question :D |
| hogarth07-27-07, 07:53 AM | @TelinArtho: Tactics sent for Reginald Molehusband (plus a mostly-useless addendum). |
| Yitzi07-27-07, 08:32 AM | TelinArtho, please see my latest post in the tavern, it can affect the FFA. |
| Vathelokai07-27-07, 09:24 AM | @lonewolf: tactics for Zodiac sent. |
| TelinArtho07-27-07, 11:07 AM | TelinArtho, please see my latest post in the tavern, it can affect the FFA. Realize that it doesn't really help me run the fight- it just makes things more complicated. In any case - noted and I will see how and if it affects anything. |
| Yitzi07-27-07, 02:53 PM | At the very least, it means he can't mount the horse and draw in the same round unless he makes a successful fast mount check. |
| TelinArtho07-27-07, 02:58 PM | Okay - I've given this some pitlording discretion: 1. In the initial rounds, Phacce is trying to move out of combat. The first round (round 16), he'll need to control his mount in order to move away. (Ride check is 29 - success) 2. Once he is out of current melee threats or even near ranged threats, he can ride safely without needing to make control checks (round 17-19). 3. When he is engaged or when moving towards combat - he needs to make checks (20+). This means in round 21 - he can't withdraw from Daren and instead has to move away. He provokes an AoO - which means I have to adjust a few attack rolls around. That's it for now - the rest will be in the fight. |
| stimpydoda07-27-07, 03:53 PM | I should have posted before; I can't run any fights. Anyone able to run: Dunerunner (Yitzi) vs. Rolf (Dr.Funk) and/or Berri the Friendly (TelinArtho) vs. Vivi (Dr.Funk) PM me if you can and I'll send you there tactics. Sorry again. |
| hogarth07-27-07, 04:13 PM | I'll take the Dunerunner vs. Rolf fight. Send me the tactics and I'll PM Pitlords. |
| TelinArtho07-27-07, 04:23 PM | I should have posted before; I can't run any fights. Anyone able to run: Dunerunner (Yitzi) vs. Rolf (Dr.Funk) and/or Berri the Friendly (TelinArtho) vs. Vivi (Dr.Funk) PM me if you can and I'll send you there tactics. Sorry again. Since I know you have received the tactics from both parties in the other fight - you might just post the tactics so that anyone can take it. |
| Zevox07-27-07, 04:46 PM | @ 'Rith - Tactics for Mithos PMed. Wish I could say I was confident about that, but I'm not. I knew Mithos was going to be one of those characters that doesn't get really good until high levels, but damn, hes really struggling with these past few levels. I can't wait for him to hit level 9 and pick up Mounted Combat and Leadership and get his Pegasus Psychic Warrior cohort-mount - then his record ought to improve quite a bit. Zevox |
| TelinArtho07-27-07, 04:56 PM | Okay - the FFA from last week is up and "done." I'm sure there'll be some concerns about it - but I don't know what to do about it. There are so many situations just not addressed in the tactics - anyone getting grappled, what to do with familiar/AC when done with their "primary" purpose, etc. The resulting winner won by a sheer stroke of luck at the end, again by an improvisation, but that's the way it goes. The major change was that Daren got an extra attack in earlier on Phacce - which pushed up the attack rolls on Kathren and as a result ended in Kathren getting grappled. Phacce (UserNamer) vs Daren Legrad (Yitzi) vs Atemu (Korone) vs Kathren Durrol (Zevox) [All vs All] |
| Erithmu07-27-07, 05:01 PM | @Templer10: Tactics? ... They are late ... but I just need them. |
| TelinArtho07-27-07, 05:19 PM | Looks like I've got tactics for everyone but Gareth. Don't have time to get started on the new FFA yet - so it looks like I'll be waiting until Monday for that. |
| templer1007-27-07, 05:38 PM | @Templer10: Tactics? ... They are late ... but I just need them. just sent them in - sorry for lateness - wasnt home all day. |
| Callix07-27-07, 05:50 PM | TelinArtho: On the old FFA, aren't there rules about allies and unconscious gladiators? Daren could easily be dropped by Zero and Gal in one round. You probably know best, but I thought I saw something somewhere, once. |
| TelinArtho07-27-07, 05:57 PM | This is something that was "cleared" up fairly recently. If the opponent has no way to return to the fight - then his allies are automatically removed from the fight immediately - they get no further actions. There is a link to this discussion in the 2nd post of the Council thread (where it was discussed), and can be found in the language of the Rules of Gladius in the Battles I post (I believe). |
| templer1007-27-07, 06:43 PM | Loneweolf - tactics for elrick sent- stupid dragons and stupid overpowered stuff (mutter mutter) - dragons are so undervalued in CR and i just know i got the fiendish or celestial versions so i got DR and SR to boot also.... |
| Erithmu07-27-07, 08:18 PM | Mithos vs Liara + Mohmat is up here. Team fight or FFA ... you decide ... |
| MindWandererB07-27-07, 09:00 PM | Mithos vs Liara + Mohmat is up here. Team fight or FFA ... you decide ... Round 9: Apparently Mithos became a wilder and committed suicide.... |
| Sjiggie07-27-07, 09:55 PM | I should have posted before; I can't run any fights. Anyone able to run: Dunerunner (Yitzi) vs. Rolf (Dr.Funk) and/or Berri the Friendly (TelinArtho) vs. Vivi (Dr.Funk) PM me if you can and I'll send you there tactics. Sorry again. I'll take Berri the Friendly vs. Vivi Stimpy I haven't received tactics for Lyrcidas vs Eamane if you don't send them before tomorrow I'll have to run it on default tactics which aren't great tactics to work with |
| Eluria07-27-07, 10:01 PM | Mithos vs Liara + Mohmat is up here. Team fight or FFA ... you decide ... You know I've fought Liara twice and failed to do that much damage either time; I guess Mohmat wanted some vengeance. Thanks for running that 'Rith! |
| templer1007-27-07, 10:12 PM | You know I've fought Liara twice and failed to do that much damage either time; I guess Mohmat wanted some vengeance. Thanks for running that 'Rith! You picked one hell of a time to confirm a crit lol. |
| Rauul07-28-07, 02:30 AM | where oh where is Malither... LOL |
| Eluria07-28-07, 06:33 AM | Not to be annoying and continuously ask for mid-fight analysis, but this is only my second fight, and the mapping/movement stuff is making my head dizzy at this point. Can someone eyeball War vs. Ralein here and tell me if I'm doing everything wrong (excepting the lack of map change between rds 12 and 13). Thank you so much! -e |
| Sjiggie07-28-07, 07:53 AM | Tactics received for Berri vs Vivi and from lycidas |
| templer1007-28-07, 07:54 AM | gaston vs samuel are done and here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=13219168&postcount=1153). |
| lonewolf07-28-07, 08:07 AM | Why should I need a 5ft step in round 17? I only need a standart action(use stone) and a move action(move into the ground) The swarm of crystals damage roll is wrong. you rolled 4d13 instead of 13d4. EDIT: the dispel checks are also wrong since you didnt take into account the augmentation of Samuels stone. This doesnt make a difference though. EDIT2: more importantly, Swarm of crystal has only a range of 15ft, which shouldnt be enoughto hit samuel in this situation, I think. |

| lonewolf07-28-07, 09:34 AM | AND DONE - result changed. thank you! unfortunately I have bad news for you: Dragons are overpowered. Come and see in the fight Elrick vs Fiendish young red dragon here |
| hogarth07-28-07, 09:47 AM | Dunerunner vs. Rolf (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=13217056&postcount=1152) is up. Comments, questions and criticism are welcome. |
| templer1007-28-07, 09:51 AM | thank you! unfortunately I have bad news for you: Dragons are overpowered. Come and see in the fight Elrick vs Fiendish young red dragon here thanks for the run - cant do much against a dragon and these kinds of rolls- just 1 or 2 more rounds would have made a huge diffrence. p.s - a monster having more (i think) cash to burn on gear on same level player is just wrong. p.s.s- ARENT autoloses fun? p.s.s.s. -fiendish young red dragon is ECL 20 - that should tell you something... |

Are we ever going to get the new cash rules (i.e. no "triple standard") ratified? | TelinArtho07-28-07, 11:49 AM | @Usernamer - I only respond to issues brought up in the FotW thread. PMs leave your opponents out of the discussion - and since the fight involves a total of 5 people - it should not be held in private: I just saw that the things I noticed don't matter anyway, except the healing. I really think Phacce should have healed to 36 hp before continuing, and why didnt he get away with his horse when he was shooting with his wand of Daren? I know I haven't specificly written this in my tactics, but there are more things that you did that are not specified: Daren wants to heal to 15 hp before continuing, while he actaully starts a grapple while at 10hp. So could you please at least answer this PM and look at my arguaments(healing/running away with horse). Becouse those would really change the result. For Daren's improvisation - I gave him several rounds to try to get to the point where his healing would work. After those several rounds, he was only gaining hp through sheer luck - so he changed his tactics to be more offensive. As for engaging Daren - I want you to look at all your tactics about him: I don't care about Daren, since he can't really kill me, but stay out of Atemu's charging range. ... It is possible, that they want me down first, in witch case I want to cast obscuring mist on something that stays with me wherever I go, and hide in the mist, while taking shots with longbow, at Kathren first, then Daren, than Atemu. As for healing more - I don't know what to tell you. I healed as much as I felt was necessary (and yes - I missed that you wanted to heal to full). But don't claim I didn't help you out too - because those allies of yours had no tactics at all for engaging your opponents - so you gained considerably for that. All this said - I will look again at the fight if I have time. I am not holding it over and I will only look it over again after I am done with my other fights. |
| UserNamer07-28-07, 02:28 PM | Ok, ok , fair enough. |
| lonewolf07-28-07, 05:42 PM | @templer: You missed the used stone of specified energy adaption in samuels fight summary. ty lonewolf |
| Zevox07-29-07, 01:30 PM | The Chameleon vs Brilf Zephyr is done, no thanks to the dice. A very one-sided match that was only drug out as long as it was because the winner couldn't roll above a 5 on an attack to save her life for half the match. Zevox |
| templer1007-29-07, 03:59 PM | Kervan Vs malik is done and here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=13231318&postcount=1154). EDIT - maybe not - malither reminded me that spell immunity doesnt work on hold monster since it's 5th level spell- editing now. EDIT DONE - no change - krevan managed the second will save and avoided a CDG and slain managed to somehow miss him on the first charge |
| Zevox07-29-07, 04:21 PM | Diana Valassar vs Isaiah Shar. |
| hogarth07-30-07, 12:56 PM | Not to be a nosy Neddy, but in the Rubicanti/Reginald/Lightwolf fight, why is Rubicanti making a Listen check with a -20 penalty for distance and Spot checks with no penalty for distance in the same round? |
| TheMagister07-30-07, 01:00 PM | Also, shouldn't there be hand afire damage on the initial jumpkick attack? Fantastic luck on those Fort saves, too! {grumble grumble} |
| Yitzi07-30-07, 01:28 PM | Ymandrake vs. Snaga is up. |
| hogarth07-30-07, 01:32 PM | Also, shouldn't there be hand afire damage on the initial jumpkick attack? Reg has Energy Adaptation (Fire), I think. |
| TelinArtho07-30-07, 01:32 PM | Not to be a nosy Neddy, but in the Rubicanti/Reginald/Lightwolf fight, why is Rubicanti making a Listen check with a -20 penalty for distance and Spot checks with no penalty for distance in the same round? Simple - Elrond acted before Rubi and cast a spell. Rubi doesn't hear, but with Lightwolf and Reginald in sight - Rubi is able to make an "educated" decision about which way to go. On his action, Rubi runs closer. As to there being no penalty, you are blind - there are penalties in the roller (-3) for the distance. Also, shouldn't there be hand afire damage on the initial jumpkick attack? Fantastic luck on those Fort saves, too! {grumble grumble} Nope - it takes a move action to activate it - and it was a choice between engaging immediately or missing the opportunity to engage. |
| Eluria07-30-07, 01:38 PM | War vs. Ralein is here, ended with a forfeiture. Even with the forfeiture, I'm hoping someone will either comment on if things seemed to be run appropriately, like with LoS and things like that - just a quick look. I'd like to be able to more confidently run fights in the future. Thanks in advance! |
| TheMagister07-30-07, 01:44 PM | Nope - it takes a move action to activate it - and it was a choice between engaging immediately or missing the opportunity to engage. Check the prebuff section of Rubi's sheet. Err...the prefight actions section, to be specific. |
| TelinArtho07-30-07, 01:57 PM | Check the prebuff section of Rubi's sheet. Err...the prefight actions section, to be specific. I just realized that as I was running through... Won't make a huge difference except the extra 2d6 on Reg and Rubi can flurry Myoxus rather than 5ft step, activate and attack (meaning Myoxus doesn't draw the AoO that caused his death, he just dies on Rubi's action). But I'll fix it. |
| TheMagister07-30-07, 01:59 PM | Coo. Thanks. |
| TheMagister07-30-07, 02:02 PM | I hate to be a pain, but: Ignore Astral Constructs. So unless there's nothing left to hit (or it keeps Rubi out of a grapple), ignore 'em and follow the real problems (Reg and allies) or prepare for Lightwolf (buff to the sky). |
| TelinArtho07-30-07, 02:21 PM | Well - that's the thing. For the first 6 ACs, he has no other target to work with. But its coming along... |
| hogarth07-30-07, 02:27 PM | Well - that's the thing. For the first 6 ACs, he has no other target to work with. Just to clarify -- since Reg is supposed to be creating an Astral Construct every three rounds, 6 Astral Constructs should take 16 rounds to create. Lightwolf is staying out of the fight for that long? |
| TelinArtho07-30-07, 02:35 PM | Effectively everyone but Rubicanti is delaying in one form or another. Lightwolf's tactics specify to ready until the delay penalty kicks in. Once he engages for one round, he wants to go back to hiding. So - while I am not "delaying" the ACs to every three rounds, it is relatively easy to run it that way, since the only one with buffs up is Reginald and Lightwolf would still only be firing twice over the course of the 10 ACs... If you guys could just stop commenting about it - maybe I'll get the darn thing done... |
| TheMagister07-30-07, 02:46 PM | Wait -- YOU'RE running the fight? I thought Hogarth and I were! :D Carry on, bro. Sdentch performed gloriously in her quest -- nothing could rock my good mood regarding the boards this week. ;) Edit: and after I say that: Rubi's got deflect arrows. |
| TelinArtho07-30-07, 04:05 PM | Lightwolf Phoenixstar (Yitzi) vs Rubicanti (TheMagister) vs Reginald Molehusband (hogarth) [All vs All] is up. |
| hogarth07-30-07, 04:15 PM | Lightwolf Phoenixstar (Yitzi) vs Rubicanti (TheMagister) vs Reginald Molehusband (hogarth) [All vs All] is up. Each round, ready to shoot at Reginald on sight. Yell to Lightwolf that Reggie's death is the only way one of us will win. --- vs. Lightwolf - Only worry about him if Reggie is dead. What does everyone have against poor ol' Reg? He wouldn't hurt a fly! :angelhide |
| templer1007-30-07, 04:26 PM | ARbin vs tiris and done (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=13242037&postcount=1157) (god i hope so) one hell of an annoying fight. |
| templer1007-30-07, 04:27 PM | What does everyone have against poor ol' Reg? He wouldn't hurt a fly! :angelhide anyone that takes out the brain locking regi got my vote for MVP.... |
| hogarth07-30-07, 04:43 PM | One small comment: Lightwolf was visible when Astral Construct #7 was being manifested (and was possibly visible when Astral Construct #10), so it should be trying to disarm his bow. I doubt that will delay Lightwolf enough to get another Brain Lock off, but you never know. Also, mounting a horse doesn't provoke an AoO (although controlling a frightened horse does). This is not fight affecting, but I'm pointing it out for future reference. |
| Callix07-30-07, 04:43 PM | Eluria: The Time Between Fights is the Time Roll: 4 hours for this fight. Also, I only seem to have fired twice, so can only use up 1-2 arrows. The miss has a 50% chance of recovery. Minor, but I need to know. |
| MindWandererB07-30-07, 04:57 PM | Kervan Vs malik is done and here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=13231318&postcount=1154). | TheMagister07-30-07, 05:11 PM | Reginald (28,5,9) 20/32 [28 non-lethal], Mage Armor (ends 3 hours), Psionic Levitate (ends 701), Vigor (+35, ends 72), Force Screen (ends 30) Shouldn't Regi fall unconscious at this point? Oh, and if I make a psionicist pull out the Ego Whip card, I'm gonna start counting that as a win. {darned Cha dmg cheese...} |
| templer1007-30-07, 05:16 PM | Shouldn't Regi fall unconscious at this point? Oh, and if I make a psionicist pull out the Ego Whip card, I'm gonna start counting that as a win. {darned Cha dmg cheese...} he actually has 20+35 real hp taht you count down from it 28 non lethal. btw- why i think you forget (vs lorian) that grappling the psicrystal just 5 feet away doesnt end the share pain - just the vigor - still is a big blow to lorian's hp but not as much as it could have been. also mental note to self- spesifly mention the freedom of move also vs grapple on spike next time not - just spay in general. |
| TelinArtho07-30-07, 05:18 PM | Important news for everyone If anyone claims they did not see this message... well - you just aren't reading enough. Good luck to everyone in the coming week(s). |

Well, it hurts more than any other single action Tessero could perform in one round, which is why I specified to do it. Even if all it does is end Vigor, then it was worth it. Why do I remember someone saying to grapple or hit for non-lethal damage since it's easier to overcome Vigor that way? Hmm... TM |

| Sjiggie07-30-07, 06:16 PM | Lycidas vs Eámanë is done Here |
| hogarth07-30-07, 06:18 PM | Oh, and if I make a psionicist pull out the Ego Whip card, I'm gonna start counting that as a win. I think all of Reg's wins were moral victories for his opponents. Grappling horses, brain locks and ego whips -- oh my! Telin, are you going to switch one or more Astral Constructs to disarming Lightwolf as per his tactics? I appreciate it if you would take a look. If he only sees Rubicanti, he'll order the Constructs to grapple Rubi for damage, but if he sees Lightwolf he'll order them to disarm Lightwolf's bow (and attempt to bring it to Reg who will take it and stow it). |
| Eamane07-30-07, 08:58 PM | Lycidas vs Eámanë is done Here Looks good for the most part but two quick notes: Eamane is female. (Is the name really that masculine?) Tactics were to vigor (1pp) before moving out to find Lycidas if I didn't start with LOS on r1. This'll make the battle last at least one round further, which may be applicable here. His expendables will /eventually/ carry the day, but I feel he should have to use more of them to earn this win. |
| Salrantol07-30-07, 09:03 PM | Eamane is female. (Is the name really that masculine?)Good luck with that. I think there's some rule yet that I haven't found that says that pitlords must refer to all characters with male pronouns. |
| MindWandererB07-30-07, 09:06 PM | Good luck with that. I think there's some rule yet that I haven't found that says that pitlords must refer to all characters with male pronouns. Not necessarily. It takes me a force of effort to refer to Mohmat as male because Eluria isn't, even though I know Mohmat is a masculine name (a variant of Mohammed). |
| hogarth07-30-07, 09:31 PM | Good luck with that. I think there's some rule yet that I haven't found that says that pitlords must refer to all characters with male pronouns. Not quite -- the pitlord "rule" seems to be that all names ending in "A" are female (like Istima the [male] goblin) and all other names are male (like Eamane or Kilpquabjeg the [female] gladiators). |
| Eamane07-30-07, 10:19 PM | Not quite -- the pitlord "rule" seems to be that all names ending in "A" are female (like Istima the [male] goblin) and all other names are male (like Eamane or Kilpquabjeg the [female] gladiators). Interesting, so if I changed her name to 'Eamanea' it would be female? I'd consider that, but the overflow of vowels would be even more disgusting. |
| Yitzi07-31-07, 12:19 AM | Telin, are you going to switch one or more Astral Constructs to disarming Lightwolf as per his tactics? I appreciate it if you would take a look. I don't think it would really help-the construct has attack +2, subtract 4 for size, Lightwolf has attack +12, subtract 4 for non-melee weapon. So Lightwolf has an advantage of 10 (14 if slam is considered a light weapon), for an 11.25% chance of a given disarm attempt being successful. I would appreciate, however, if you would fix up the arrow use information in the results section. |
| hogarth07-31-07, 06:56 AM | I don't think it would really help-the construct has attack +2, subtract 4 for size, Lightwolf has attack +12, subtract 4 for non-melee weapon. So Lightwolf has an advantage of 10 (14 if slam is considered a light weapon), for an 11.25% chance of a given disarm attempt being successful. I think a natural attack is a light weapon. So it's +3-4=-1 vs. +13-4+4=+13. That's like a 1% chance (a little better if Lightwolf has been using Rapid Shot, I guess). But here's my point: Lightwolf can't really hurt the Astral Constructs without delaying one of his attacks by a round. He doesn't have a spiked gauntlet or armor spikes to make AoOs, so there's no harm in trying to disarm him over and over again. It's extremely unlikely to work, but who knows? It only has to work once for Reg to get another Brain Lock in. Or maybe one of the constructs gets in the way and gives Reg cover if he didn't have it before. At any rate, I'd like to find out. The disarming is in my tactics, after all; I don't mind losing fair and square as long as it was my own tactics that did me in. :D Don't worry -- I'm 99% sure Lightwolf would still win. |
| TheMagister07-31-07, 07:01 AM | I feel quite good knowing that Rubi had a fair shot of winning that one. If Reg is stunned, he's two 50% miss chances away from annihilation. Darn you and that dice luck! :) |
| hogarth07-31-07, 07:10 AM | I feel quite good knowing that Rubi had a fair shot of winning that one. If Reg is stunned, he's two 50% miss chances away from annihilation. Darn you and that dice luck! :) I have to tip my hat to Rubi -- I certainly never expected him to get there that fast! |
| TheMagister07-31-07, 07:14 AM | One of the best things about being predictable is watching what happens when you break the mold unexpectedly. :D |
| Salrantol07-31-07, 08:13 AM | I just know that even female characters that I've given REAL-WORLD girls' names (Esme, Felice) still get called with male pronouns. |
| Yitzi07-31-07, 08:25 AM | I think a natural attack is a light weapon. So it's +3-4=-1 vs. +13-4+4=+13. That's like a 1% chance (a little better if Lightwolf has been using Rapid Shot, I guess). difference of 14 is 3.75%, with rapid shot you get 7%. The formula of the chance of weaker winning an opposed check is (20-x)(19-x)/800, where x is the difference in modifiers (if it's 19 or higher, the chance is 0) |
| lonewolf07-31-07, 10:27 AM | Zodiac vs Maya is up. A sudden ending of a very close fight. |
| TelinArtho07-31-07, 10:46 AM | @TM and Vath - rewards for There and Back again have been posted. |
| TelinArtho07-31-07, 10:47 AM | I don't think it would really help-the construct has attack +2, subtract 4 for size, Lightwolf has attack +12, subtract 4 for non-melee weapon. I would appreciate, however, if you would fix up the arrow use information in the results section. I'll fix up the arrows when I get the chance. As to hogarth's concern - I'll see if I can fit it in today, but I've still got another fight to run and that takes a higher priority. |
| TelinArtho07-31-07, 11:05 AM | Arrows have been edited in. @hogarth - AC7 would not be going after lightwolf as he is already out of sight by the time AC7 appears. AC10 would certainly go after him, but whether I get to edit that depends on the difficulty of the Gareth vs Asran fight I'm running. |
| TheMagister07-31-07, 11:22 AM | @Zevox - funny, but Torel isn't going to be able to handle the dire wolf after casting hide from animals. |
| templer1007-31-07, 11:26 AM | @Zevox - funny, but Torel isn't going to be able to handle the dire wolf after casting hide from animals. also - kind of mistake to assume i wont go on torel just becuese of psioninc hole when iam super depeneded on buffs and he's teh only one that can dispel me... p.s- cute idia on the images - didn't think about it - althrough i assume after the small little bard grapple someone ill figure it out... |

| Zevox07-31-07, 12:44 PM | @Zevox - funny, but Torel isn't going to be able to handle the dire wolf after casting hide from animals. Aye, I noticed that after I started running it, and have been trying to figure out what to do about it. I think I'll just have to skip hide from animals, since it would invalidate a big part of his tactics. Archdevil Asran (Zevox) vs Gareth Irontower (Malither76) is up. Well, that went faster than I expected. If I'd known it would take that little time, I wouldn't have bothered to use the stoneskin scroll. Theres just two errors I see, neither of which affect the outcome: the first is that Senorda's rays are at too low of an attack modifier (when polymorphed her dex increase boosts them to +9), the second is that Gareth wanted to ready vs a charge, not just ready to attack when foes got in range, which would mean the ready wouldn't go off (which would make no difference). Otherwise, looks good, thanks for the run. Zevox |
| TelinArtho07-31-07, 12:45 PM | Okay - here's what I've got for the Lightwolf vs Rubi vs Reg FFA. The first two arrows from after AC10 is summoned would hit and kill the astral construct (after turning off the subdual portion). That done, those two hits (16 and 12 damage) need new attack rolls and damage rolls (if applicable, at the end of the fight. At the current end of the fight, Reginald is at 20+35 [70 subdual]. Taking out 28 of that leaves Reginald at 20+35 [48 subdual], meaning Lightwolf just needs 8 more in those two arrows to take Reginald down. The first attack is 16 - so a miss, but the second is 29, a hit for 17 damage. Enough to take Reginald down. I have also made sure that none of the hits would have become misses (and that none of the misses would have become hits) as rolls move from single shots to rapid shots or vice versa. |

The ready should still trigger when an opponent gets in range - regardless of whether they are charging. |

Just to get the round sequence clear in my mind: Round 20: -AC10 starts running towards Lightwolf. Round 21: -Lightwolf notices AC10 coming after him and turns off Merciful property. -AC10 ?keeps running? ?charges Lightwolf? ?other? Round 22: -Lightwolf ?rapid shoots AC10, hitting it twice with a 28 and a 23? ...attacks get bumped up... Round 29: ?Reginald is still conscious so he gets another brain lock? If Lightwolf attack the Astral Construct on round 22, shouldn't Reg live for another round? I admit I'm a bit confused -- does Lightwolf go before or after Reginald in initiative order after his ready action goes off on Round 22? |
| TelinArtho07-31-07, 01:31 PM | Actually - I forgot about the actions needed to turn off and turn on the merciful nature of the bow. Blah. Ok - so he does get one more shot with brain lock - which Lightwolf fails. Blah. Okay - I'll edit the fight... give me a bit. |

I would prefer if you keep Hide from animals ... by the time I order the wolf to do anything it only has one round left. |
| templer1007-31-07, 01:55 PM | Zevox - i noticed in the first rounds of fight in the FFA - you got lorian's AC wrong should be 26 after buffs. |
| Zevox07-31-07, 02:16 PM | Zevox - i noticed in the first rounds of fight in the FFA - you got lorian's AC wrong should be 26 after buffs. The AC is because I haven't finished round 7 yet. As for the powers, the only one you asked to share was vigor. I tend not to assume that everything is shared, since 9 times out of 10 it just means more paperwork for me keeping track of shared abilities that have no effect on the psicrystal/familiar/animal companion in question. I guess I can treat the retort as shared, since it'll have an effect if Tessero gets his way, but I'm not bothering with things that'll make no difference. Zevox |

Zevox that's how it should be - peeps dont normally grapple or attack psi crystals.... pff - let the HP battery live in peace.... btw- can he even grapple it when i spesificly asked for the crystal to be in clothing beneath armor and well secured? |
| TheMagister07-31-07, 02:33 PM | How can you even manifest powers with it as the target if you don't have line of effect to it? If you can target it, so can anyone else. If you insist, there's always disarm. In fact, if the psicrystal's locomotion ability isn't active, it probably SHOULD be a disarm. |

| TelinArtho07-31-07, 02:45 PM | Okay - both FFAs have now been edited, fight results changed, yada yada yada. PMs sent to pitlords of the changes. Time to prepare for the upcoming week... |

Hey, you're the one forcing it to be relevant to the fight for your opponents. Start finding a way to win matches that doesn't make you reliant on that little ally and it can live in peace just fine :P . As for the latter, because theres no rules for such hiding of it. Zevox |

ZevoxI mean this in the nicest way possible ... I don't hear enough dice being rolled. They normally have a say in the fight. I would like to hear their opinion. :) |

| Erithmu07-31-07, 02:58 PM | It will still be there when you are done ... |
| Sjiggie07-31-07, 03:01 PM | Berri the friendly vs ViVi is done the dice gods sure picked one side in this fight. |
| MindWandererB07-31-07, 04:24 PM | Zodiac vs Maya is up. A sudden ending of a very close fight. Two things FYI: First, Energy Push is a ray and thus can be used with Psionic Shot. Second, Sleep works only on 4 hit dice worth of creatures, starting with those with the fewest HD, so in this situation, the spell would have affected the horse and not the rider. Edit: never mind, I thought the comment in red was yours, not Vath's. |
| lonewolf07-31-07, 04:39 PM | Two things FYI: First, Energy Push is a ray and thus can be used with Psionic Shot. I dont see why I missed that. Do you want me to edit that in, or is it ok since you won anyway? |
| templer1007-31-07, 04:59 PM | Zevox - in round 11 - i think you forgetten to do the energy retort thing on tessero after he started the grapple And he needs to do another grapple check round after that to MOVE the grapple (and another energy retort dmg) - btw - poor torel - 43 dmg out of energy missile.... and maybe Tessero was close enough to eat that 2? (i can hope lol). |

(i can hope lol). No I didn't - the retort only goes off if you know you're being attacked and can identify the source of it. Tessero was invisible at the time, making a retort impossible. As for the grapple the round thereafter, I'm just now getting to it, so just be patient there buddy... Zevox |

Zevox NP - btw -how isnt Tessero close enough for the energy missile if Torel attacked me same round i wonder (And didnt get AOA for movement after) - but i trust you know the map so just ignore this if iam wrong. |
| MindWandererB07-31-07, 05:05 PM | I dont see why I missed that. Do you want me to edit that in, or is it ok since you won anyway? Don't worry about it. It took me a while to notice that myself, as it violates the rule that reflex saves are never supposed to be used with rays. |
| TheMagister07-31-07, 05:06 PM | DRAT! No luck on the glitterdusting of Speedy. The dice have been kicking my butt in the save department lately. |
| Yitzi07-31-07, 05:27 PM | About Daren's FFA: I said to put up a shield if Phacce comes, and you didn't. While he did use a shield earlier, the fact that I mention "both shields" (under the tactics if Atemu comes) should make it clear that I'm willing to use shield twice. So if you could adjust it before the hard deadline, I'd appreciate it. |
| TelinArtho07-31-07, 05:36 PM | As if changes like this are as easy to implement on a moment's notice. I can make changes to the fight once more, but I guarantee they won't be done before the hard deadline - I simply don't have the time (I'm going offline now for the night and I'll be back some time in the morning - but there's no guarantees I'll have time to work on a fight). |
| TheMagister07-31-07, 05:37 PM | Is moving a grapple an attack? If so, wouldn't a reactive ability (such as Energy Retort) activate after the action? If so, wouldn't Energy Retort end before it could fire at Tessero from Spike? |
| Yitzi07-31-07, 05:38 PM | In that case, you don't have to bother-I'd rather have Daren active next fight than have this fixed. |
| Zevox07-31-07, 05:44 PM | Lorian vs Torel vs Battlesong Duet is done. NP - btw -how isnt Tessero close enough for the energy missile if Torel attacked me same round i wonder (And didnt get AOA for movement after) - but i trust you know the map so just ignore this if iam wrong. Simple - you were mounted, and therefore large, and those two were at opposite corners of your space, which leads to a 20' distance between them due to the diagonal distance rules (and besides, as I forgot when placing those pins on the map, Tessero when expanded has 10' reach, and didn't need to be adjacent to you). Is moving a grapple an attack? If so, wouldn't a reactive ability (such as Energy Retort) activate after the action? If so, wouldn't Energy Retort end before it could fire at Tessero from Spike? I'm not really sure about that myself, but I rolled it just to be safe. In any event though, it doesn't matter with how weak the retort was and the kind of energy missile damage you ate thereafter. Zevox |
| TheMagister07-31-07, 05:44 PM | @Zevox - he said to use energy missile (elec) on Tessero and Cupid. That ER 10 (elec) might come in handy. Not to mention that Cupid would be able to heal and move away... |
| templer1007-31-07, 05:49 PM | @Zevox - he said to use energy missile (elec) on Tessero and Cupid. That ER 10 (elec) might come in handy. doesnt help you - even with Elec - i still kill both of them in round 14 since tessero fails his save in round 14 (since it's DC 25 vs elec) ZEVOX - please add in political career of +27%. ty. |
| Zevox07-31-07, 05:52 PM | @Zevox - he said to use energy missile (elec) on Tessero and Cupid. That ER 10 (elec) might come in handy. Not to mention that Cupid would be able to heal and move away... Aw shoot, he did. Damn, that may extend things. Well, I'll get back on that later today - I need a break now. Zevox |

| templer1007-31-07, 06:07 PM | We'll see. Losing that +1 dmg/die makes a pretty big difference, and lorian's starting to run outta gas... well - anyway you look at it - tessero still dies with current rolls since he take 18 less dmg in round 13 - leaving him with 23 hp and cupid with 6 HP in round 14 - tessero now takes 26 dmg and dies (sine he now fails the DC 25 not 23 reflex save) - potentially cupid could be healing him for those 3 missing HP - but then he's close enough to lorian to hit him also with the e-missile - killing him and leaving tesseo with 0-5 HP left and if cupid goes away to heal tesseo dies and cupid is left with max 10 HP. ZEVOX- also super speedy is 8.333% ally adjustment (yes i know i had it wrong...). |
| Erithmu07-31-07, 07:05 PM | No arguments from my angle. @Zevox: Torel is one of those characters that might be getting some retirement time soon. I like him but I think I might have built him poorly. Edit: Check that ... Zevox I need my spells used listed I'm only on fight 1. |
| TheMagister07-31-07, 07:24 PM | I'll let Zevox figure it out. Optimally, Cupid heals Tessero and then moves away, and then heals herself in a spare moment. Not unreasonable, and Zevox knows his stuff. If he switches to EM(elec), I'm sure the resulting circumstances will move him to do what looks most evident. |
| Zevox07-31-07, 07:26 PM | Alrighty, the fights been edited, no change save that Lorian had to use another Crystal Shard charge. I also edited the rewards - both Lorian's political career and ally adjustment and the fact that his foes were only supposed to get half the ally adjustment since this was an FFA. Edit: Check that ... Zevox I need my spells used listed I'm only on fight 1. Edited in. Sorry, you confused you with his spells saying that he gets to use all of them. @Zevox: Torel is one of those characters that might be getting some retirement time soon. I like him but I think I might have built him poorly. Oh, I sure wouldn't say that. Psionic Hole probably wasn't a great feat choice, and hes certainly suffering from the CL loss since you didn't really give him much of anything to help make up for it, but hes still quite a tough customer. Zevox |
| TheMagister07-31-07, 10:40 PM | I think it would've been smarter to heal Tessero, but I'm not complaining. Thanks for the run! TM |
| Malither7608-01-07, 02:26 AM | Dentik VS Korwald is up here sorry it was late guys, my laptop died last night when I was goin to run this. |
