| TelinArtho06-21-06, 12:44 PM | Fights of the Week: June 21st Sheets Deadline for editing characters sheets is 21:00 CET. Central European Time (http://wwp.centraleuropeantime.eu/) shows the time. Please don't edit the sheet after the deadline or you will lose the match. Rules of Gladius All that you need to know is written in the Rules of Gladius. It could be useful also to give a look to the Court Decisions. Please do not make fake accounts. If you do, there will be pain for all of your multiple personalities, plus bannings and feeding to dragons. Oh and curses - lots and lots of curses. Pairings GM Caterane will pair the active Characters of Gladius after the deadline. Make sure that your character is not in Prison (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=571107&goto=lastpost). Pitlording You should use the CoCo Dice Roller (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com) for the fight. If you need, there is a nice Template ready to use that will help. Read more here (http://boards.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=656843) Sdentch and Auburn - front and center... your quest is ready to go In other news, Kraegin, a Denthian high-priest, is having a grand old time using centipedes to rip apart a two-headed serpent on his way to destroy a temple of a different sort... After being nearly torn to shreds by her animated chains, Sir Valkin's faith shone through on back to back critical hits to eliminate the evil-doer. His successes can be read about here (http://boards.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=653436) Earlier today, we have heard of a town being literally torn assunder and dissolved with acid. Please check out his blog here (http://boards.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=655266) if you want up-to-the-minute updates. I am entirely too busy to be writing this right now - but since I'm going crazy at work - I needed a brief interlude... many apologies... |
| Pitlords06-21-06, 01:51 PM | We should probably add "Don't use Fake Accounts" to the topic outline LOL Anyway, pairings in one hour. Make sure you have the correct streamlined title line, or if you sit out nothing at all in there. |
| TelinArtho06-21-06, 02:07 PM | Ask and ye shall receive. Fixed :) |
| Papapeperoni06-21-06, 03:34 PM | I'm probably too late. Thought about it 21:28 (28 minutes too late) and edited Kendal's title at that moment. My memory is so bad, I think I have a Wisdom of 6. I forgot to send tactics four times. Go figure. Greets, --Papapeperoni, God of Pizza's |
| TelinArtho06-21-06, 03:48 PM | Although it seems to be contrary to what Cat says in his post, I believe you are fine - the deadline is in about 15 minutes by my count. If I am wrong - I'd like to know why... CET is GMT+1 right? And I'm in EDT right now, so that's GMT-4 = 5 hours difference. If the deadline is CET 21:00, then the deadline in EDT is 16:00 - 4pm EDT. It is 3:48pm EDT at the time of this post. |
| waywreth06-21-06, 03:54 PM | Not exactly Telin - CET = GMT + 02:00 (Central Europe Daylight / Summer Time) = Your Local Time Zone + 06:00 Like most states in Europe, Summer (Daylight-Saving) Time is observed in Central European Time (CET), where the time is shifted forward by 1 hour; 2 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+2). After the Summer months the time in Central European Time (CET) is shifted back by 1 hour to Central European Time (CET) or (GMT+1). |
| TelinArtho06-21-06, 03:56 PM | Hmm - so Cat was even further off than I thought - the deadline is in another hour? |
| waywreth06-21-06, 04:17 PM | Hmm - so Cat was even further off than I thought - the deadline is in another hour? No, Cat and Papapeperoni were correct... the deadline was at 3pm EST. |
| TelinArtho06-21-06, 04:26 PM | Well - okay - it looks like I screwed up then... some days the simplest things are confusing... oh well - yeah - deadline was a while ago - why are editing your characters? Pens down - yada yada yada. Time to fight. |
| TelinArtho06-21-06, 05:18 PM | @Pitlords - looks like Zero has been paired with Blaergh for the second week in a row... I don't suppose that could be modified? (not that I wish Zero on anyone...) |
| Pitlords06-21-06, 05:19 PM | PAIRINGS DONE Who invented Summer time!? Credit Changes +6: Caterane +5: Erithmu +4: DSugui, Uther +3: Zevox, Myrridin +2: Stormwind +1: Anaconda, Ariel23, Huan, Iced, Mindwanderer, Pittbull, SauroG, Setzertrancer, TelinArtho, Traevanon, SoulLord +0: Abyssal Stalker, NiQil -1: Magister -2: Vathelokai - Please try to post your fight on time. Every late fight is a drain on our pitlords. - I've cleaned up the roster of inactive characters. - Please visit the Council to help in the discussion about the current topics. @Telin: Changed it. |
| Zevox06-21-06, 05:30 PM | Who invented Summer time!? If Wikipedia can be trusted, that would be William Willett (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Willett), albeit that the German government was the first to actually use it. @ My players - First come, first serve. Whichever fights I get all the tactics for first get run first. I'm free until Saturday, so I can run them tomorrow or Friday if I've got tactics by then. @ My Pitlords - I'll send tactics out tonight. Zevox |
| DSugui06-21-06, 05:30 PM | Who invented Summer time!? Thomas Edison... |
| Erithmu06-21-06, 08:30 PM | @Cat: Tactics for Ignatius in the Sewer sent via PM, time to make sure the CEF passageways are safe @KU: Tactics for Loddick vs Riana sent via PM. @Stormwind + Sauro: Rematch will be run on Sat afternoon, possibly Friday night if I have enough energy to do stuff. Sooner the better, although this one will be a bit more interesting than the last one. |
| Zevox06-21-06, 09:00 PM | @ Setzertrancer - Tactics for Annalina Vale (vs Izumi) have been PMed. @ Anaconda - Tactics for Indrithia Celeth (vs Ten Vermond) have been PMed. Lets see if she can avenge her friend's defeat at his horse's hands (hooves?) last week. @ SauroGrenom - Tactics for Eraca Moralta (vs Little Daisy) have been PMed. @ Telin - Tactics for Asran should be away later tonight. @ Pitlords - With Ariel23 taking a break, her fights will need to be reassigned (yeah, one of those is mine, heh). Zevox |
| Salrantol06-21-06, 09:16 PM | @Pitlords: Oops, I should have checked better that I included everything...force of Bareth`kul's will is dispel magic. You can verify this by looking at Enoch's sheet in any of his previous fights or under 'Sales' on his current sheet. |
| Zevox06-21-06, 09:18 PM | @ Setzertrancer - Annalina's character sheet has been emailed as per request. Zevox |
| Zevox06-21-06, 10:05 PM | @ Telin - Asran's tactics (vs Leif) have been PMed. @ Sunwolf - Enjoy popping the Half-Fiend's eardrums (thats not a fight, its a slaughter). Just remember that Asran has a tendency to hold grudges, so Leif may find himself ambushed by a pair of Pit Fiends in his sleep once he rules over his own layer of Hell ;) . Zevox |
| TelinArtho06-21-06, 10:19 PM | Tactics received for Asran. Tactics sent for Faelto, Blaergh and Sir Valkin. |
| NiQil06-21-06, 10:55 PM | @ King Uther: Tactics for Famine sent via PM @ Traevanon: Tactics for Death sent via PM @ Huan: Your PM box is full. Tactics for Pestilence and War both sent via email. |
| Traevanon06-21-06, 11:37 PM | @ DSugui: Tactics for Khabil (hunter) sent via PM. @ NiQil: Tactics for Death recieved. Is there somewhere I can check my credit total? I want to know how close I am to being able to quest for the right to an intelligent weapon. :) |
| TelinArtho06-21-06, 11:55 PM | In the Characters thread, in the post after the current pairings. |
| King Uther06-22-06, 12:45 AM | I'm incredibly excited about this sewer fight. But won't it be annoying to run without coordinates? @Telin, Mindwanderer I'd like some melee destruction to break out in a 3-way. I do not expect that to happen, especially with the danger of paralysis, but I envision a grand fight in the sewer. |
| Zevox06-22-06, 12:49 AM | I'm incredibly excited about this sewer fight. But won't it be annoying to run without coordinates? Not to worry - Dracazar added the Sewer to his map generater, so it'll be no harder than running it in any other arena :) . Heck, I ran a fight there just last week (Micah Ashald's monster fight with a Centipede Swarm... ugly). Zevox |
| King Uther06-22-06, 02:23 AM | Received tactics for Loddick and Famine. I expect the rest by Friday evening(within reason). |
| TheMagister06-22-06, 02:43 AM | @Zevox - tactics for Monsieur Hood vs. Solan the Righteous sent via PM. A toast to the first battle of a successful character! :pint: TM |
| Pitlords06-22-06, 03:33 AM | I'd like to hear your opinion about the new Time Roll banner. I have six different versions - one for each time roll result. It's only 30k big so no real drain on slow connections. Is the width okay or does it extend beyond your screen (I have a big screen so I might post pictures that are too wide)? Any ideas on what we could add to the picture? There's still some space left and right. Any other suggestions? |
| Pittbull06-22-06, 05:12 AM | @Pitlords: It it nice! Remembers me on something.... @TelinArtho: Tactics receiceved. @Mindwanderer: Tactics have been sent. |
| Stormwind06-22-06, 07:08 AM | @Pitlords: Given Ariel23's post in the tavern here, Ariel won't be around for a while. Thus the following fights will need to be reassigned to another pitlord: Destra Stormwind (Zevox) vs. Jonathon (Abyssal Stalker) : Ariel23 [Forest] Gaston Dar'ath (waywreth) vs. Anixx the Warbringer (Iced) : Ariel23 [Forest] [Week 2] And the following miniquest will need to be cancelled: Evaine Dreamseeker (Ariel23) miniquests to join the CEF : Iced [Miniquest] [Week 2] --------- I am willing to take the Gaston vs Anixx fight: Gaston Dar'ath (waywreth) vs. Anixx the Warbringer (Iced) : Ariel23 Stormwind [Forest] [Week 2] Storm |
| Traevanon06-22-06, 07:26 AM | I like the new banner. I wasnt sure if there was going to be one roll for everyone's time or individual times, that kinda cleared it up. |
| waywreth06-22-06, 08:42 AM | @Pitlords: Given Ariel23's post in the tavern here, Ariel won't be around for a while. I am willing to take the Gaston vs Anixx fight: Gaston Dar'ath (waywreth) vs. Anixx the Warbringer (Iced) : Ariel23 Stormwind [Forest] [Week 2] Storm Thanks Stormwind. Tactics have already been posted - and as noted by TelinArtho and myself, the Hydra isn't allowed into the arena. |
| Pitlords06-22-06, 08:42 AM | Gaston Dar'ath (waywreth) vs. Anixx the Warbringer (Iced) : Ariel23 Stormwind [Forest] [Week 2] Is anyone interested in running the battle: Destra Stormwind (Zevox) vs. Jonathon (Abyssal Stalker) : Ariel23 XXXXX [Forest] |
| Zevox06-22-06, 09:47 AM | @ TM - Tactics for Monsieur Hood recieved, thank you. @ Iced - Tactics for Solan recieved. One quick ammendment necessary, then I'll be able to run this. Zevox |
| SoulLord06-22-06, 10:01 AM | @Anaconda tactics for Ten vermond and his deadly horse of course of course Sent by PM |
| DarthVegan06-22-06, 10:08 AM | @Zevox: Tactics for Micah sent via PM |
| TelinArtho06-22-06, 10:42 AM | Gaston Dar'ath (waywreth) vs. Anixx the Warbringer (Iced) : Ariel23 Stormwind [Forest] [Week 2] Is anyone interested in running the battle: Destra Stormwind (Zevox) vs. Jonathon (Abyssal Stalker) : Ariel23 XXXXX [Forest] I'll take it. |
| Sunwolf06-22-06, 10:45 AM | @Telin Tactics for Leif vs Asran sent by PM. @Zevox The forest map is bad for both Leif and Asran but probably more so for Asran. Leif hopes that there are no suprises in this 'noisy' encounter with Asran. :) |
| TelinArtho06-22-06, 10:52 AM | Tactics received for Leif. I'll be running the fight as I get the chance to today - but no promises on when it will be done. From the looks of things - its going to get very bloody though... |
| TelinArtho06-22-06, 11:07 AM | I realize the trend currently is to start using the CoCo mapper, but I want to strongly suggest that all maps get coordinates on the maps themselves. This is because using the CoCo mapper is difficult for me at times and I think relying on it is a crutch. Using a massive map like the forest without coordinates on the map makes things very unwieldy to present. What I might end up doing is just mocking up a map by hand without the coordinates and posting that with the fight. The way it is currently, I don't think I can supply round-by-round coordinates. |
| Pittbull06-22-06, 11:18 AM | Received all tactics for Sir Valkin vs Manzarf, so the Set-up (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=9451335&postcount=674) is up! |
| Zevox06-22-06, 11:24 AM | I'll take it. Thanks Telin. Tactics for Destra have been PMed. @ Sunwolf - Definitely more so Asran, between lower fly speed, average manueverability, and allies who can only fly. As for surprises, well, theres definitely one surprise for you, but I don't think its one you'll mind. Zevox |
| TelinArtho06-22-06, 12:04 PM | When figuring out the money earned for the guild, does profession income get included in the calculation? Fight for Asran and Leif will be posted shortly... |
| SauroGrenom06-22-06, 12:14 PM | When figuring out the money earned for the guild, does profession income get included in the calculation? Fight for Asran and Leif will be posted shortly... No |
| DSugui06-22-06, 12:15 PM | No, only money for the fight itself counts for guild taxes. @Sauro: Tactics for Daisy sent by PM @Abyssal Stalker: Tactics for Dronnar sent by PM |
| Iced06-22-06, 12:16 PM | @Zevox - tactics for Monsieur Hood vs. Solan the Righteous sent via PM. A toast to the first battle of a successful character! :pint: TM We'll see what Solan can do about the whole "successful" thing... :plotting: This is going to be who gets off more attacks the fastest - you've got the level dip and vigor stone. Buffed AC you're even with me, but i'm mounted so i can get cover bonuses with a ride check. You've got psionic shot but with a +6 concentration modifier it's probably going to end up being a one-shot deal this fight. Props on making the most scary opponent I have had Solan face at EL3. Your character can mop the floor with most EL3's. It took me a little while to think of tactics to counter your impressive ranged attacks. If I wasn't mounted this fight would have been yours all the way. Hopefully it'll become an interesting contest... Good luck man, hope it is a successful character! after Solan... ;) |
| Iced06-22-06, 12:17 PM | @Pitlords: Given Ariel23's post in the tavern here, Ariel won't be around for a while. Anixx the Warbringer (Iced) : Ariel23 Stormwind [Forest] [Week 2] Storm Ariel's miniquest has already been completed. It doesn't need to be cancelled. Thanks for taking Anixx's fight! |
| Iced06-22-06, 12:20 PM | Can somebody roll me a random monster for the Aerryl Nalladar (MindWandererB) vs unknown fight and pm it to my box? I don't have the relevant tables at hand right now. thanks, ~Iced |
| TelinArtho06-22-06, 12:27 PM | Leif Goldeneye vs Archdevil Asran (http://boards.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=9451801) is up. Couple of notes: 1. The forest map is large and unwieldy when I don't have coordinates to work with. Please modify the map to include the coordinates, since not everyone is going to be able to use the map generator consistently. 2. The specifics of the forest map is difficult to work with. A flying person has to move slower than a walking person even if the flying person is flying at the same height as the walking person? Anyway - Asran's impressive 15ft/round and a standard action to heal still almost netted him survival... if only his SR had worked... 3. LOS is similarly difficult to ascertain. I had to assume that since there's no canopy over the swamp area, that once Leif arrived there he was effectively "out in the open." If not - with poor listen and spot modifiers, its very likely they could have missed each other for several minutes. Anyway - let me know if there's errors with the fight. I suspect the most of them will have to do with the terrain - because there's so many different things that are there to take into account. |
| TelinArtho06-22-06, 12:29 PM | Thanks Telin. Tactics for Destra have been PMed. @ Sunwolf - Definitely more so Asran, between lower fly speed, average manueverability, and allies who can only fly. As for surprises, well, theres definitely one surprise for you, but I don't think its one you'll mind. Zevox Just waiting on Jonathon's tactics then. Destra's tactics received. |
| Zevox06-22-06, 12:55 PM | @ Telin - Man, you're fast! Looks pretty good to me, though I think you missed the +2 bonus to saves the prot. good potion should've given Asran. Doesn't matter with the rolls as they are though. That was pretty much the outcome I expected. Not a single SR check failed... man. At least I managed to make him waste most of his 3rd level spell slots. If they get paired together again later in the cycle Asran will have an easier time of it without so many sonic fireballs to worry about. Thanks for running it. :) Edit: Wait, one thing - you forgot to list Asran's used wand charges in the summary. Zevox |
| TelinArtho06-22-06, 01:05 PM | You are right about the saving throws. Won't make a difference, but I'll note them anyway. I'll edit in the wand uses too. EDIT - done. |
| Sunwolf06-22-06, 01:53 PM | @Telin Thanks for getting the fight up so fast. Leif's chances weren't good, if Asran survived the fourth sonicball since Leif no longer has much back up damage available in expendibles after the new expendible cap. Leif managed to level after this fight -- which is good and bad... :) |
| Stormwind06-22-06, 02:07 PM | @Erithmu: Tactics for Cyra sent via PM. |
| Hawkeye_6006-22-06, 04:22 PM | @ Dsugui: Tactics for Hawkeye have been sent. |
| Zevox06-22-06, 04:28 PM | Current state of tactics for my fights (blue = recieved, red= waiting): Solan the Righteous (Iced) vs. Monsieur Hood (TheMagister) : Zevox [Temple] (Awaiting reply from Iced due to problem w/ his tactics.) Dameon Leonne (Huan) vs. Micah Ashald (DarthVegan) : Zevox [Arena] Sunstroke (MindWandererB) vs. Blaergh (TelinArtho) vs. Alagar (King Uther) : Zevox [All vs All] [Sewer] Like I said, first come, first serve. Whoever of Iced, King Uther, or Huan gets me thier tactics first gets thier fight run first. I'd like to run one tonight, so please get those in if its too much trouble. Zevox |
| MindWandererB06-22-06, 04:38 PM | @Pittbull: Tactics received and reviewed. There's one questionable part which I am PMing you about now. @Zevox & Abyssal Stalker: Tactics sent. |
| SauroGrenom06-22-06, 04:48 PM | I was reading through the tactics subnitted by Cyra and I though of something. We are fighting this week in the Cavern Map. The description is here. It's not clear to me whether a person has cover when sitting on a large statue if they are threatined by an adjacent large creature. My intuition on this says no. But the description seams rather direct that there is cover. I tend to think of everything in the Arena as a cube of various sizes to simplify how to deal with combat in 3D. If the statue is a large size cube, then certianly it will grant cover to anything on top of the statue if attacked by an adjacent medium creature on the gorund. However a large creature on the ground will have no trouble striking any point of a square above the statue. What do you think? Also I was wondering about "Dismounting" in 3D. When you dismount, you are clearly allowed to choose any of the squares around you to dismount into. But how does this work in 3D? Specificially, can you dismount into an adjacent square that is at any elevation other than 0'? How about 10' high? If you fall from a large mount you take damage as if you fell 10'. So wouldn't it be reasonable to move into a square 10' high as part of a dismount? What do you think? |
| Erithmu06-22-06, 06:32 PM | Cyra vs Kracknol is up. Ran it 'twice' due to my own mistake, had to make some judgement calls and some 'Pitlord calls' I will need a very good reason to change the judgement call as it seemed fair to all parties, even if some parties didn't like it. @Sauro: it got slightly more interesting than just the situation below, try dismounting into the statue where someone else already is .... |
| Stormwind06-22-06, 06:59 PM | @Erithmu: Looks fairly good to me. I wasn't expecting a win out of this one, I caught Kracknol once and it seems he wants revenge ;). I think you made a reasonable call on the statue. The only thing that I would mention is that it seems that you have only rolled one attack vs all opponents when using bladewind (Round 3 and Round 4). It should be resolved as a separate melee attack on each opponent within reach. |
| Erithmu06-22-06, 07:04 PM | @Erithmu: Looks fairly good to me. I wasn't expecting a win out of this one, I caught Kracknol once and it seems he wants revenge ;). The only thing that I would mention is that it seems that you have only rolled one attack vs all opponents when using bladewind (Round 3 and Round 4). It should be resolved as a separate melee attack on each opponent within reach.Bladewind (Su): At 9th level, a soulknife gains the ability to momentarily fragment his mind blade into numerous identical blades, each of which strikes at a nearby opponent. As a full attack, when wielding his mind blade, a soulknife can give up his regular attacks and instead fragment his mind blade to make one melee attack at his full base attack bonus against each opponent within reach. Each fragment functions identically to the soulknife’s regular mind blade. When using bladewind, a soulknife forfeits any bonus or extra attacks granted by other feats or abilities (such as the Cleave feat or the haste spell). The mind blade immediately reverts to its previous form after the bladewind attack. Bolding Mine: I read that as a single melee attack vs every target, if I were to make individual attacks the psychic strike would discharge on the first hit. It doesn't change any effect of the fight, but It would be interesting to hear other options on the situation. |
| Stormwind06-22-06, 07:37 PM | Bolding Mine: I read that as a single melee attack vs every target, if I were to make individual attacks the psychic strike would discharge on the first hit. It doesn't change any effect of the fight, but It would be interesting to hear other options on the situation. I agree that this isn't a fight affecting point, I'm just trying to clarify things for myself since this is the first time that the bladewind ability has been used by Cyra (and possibly the first time in the CoCo) :D I think part of the problem here is the wording of the ability: Bladewind (Su): At 9th level, a soulknife gains the ability to momentarily fragment his mind blade into numerous identical blades, each of which strikes at a nearby opponent. As a full attack, when wielding his mind blade, a soulknife can give up his regular attacks and instead fragment his mind blade to make one melee attack at his full base attack bonus against each opponent within reach. When using bladewind, a soulknife forfeits any bonus or extra attacks granted by other feats or abilities (such as the Cleave feat or the haste spell). The mind blade immediately reverts to its previous form after the bladewind attack. The way I see this, it could be read two ways: 1) make only one melee attack against all opponents within range 2) make one separate melee attack for each opponent within range I have to admit that your comment about the pyschic strike damage makes me lean slightly more towards your interpretation (1) as it is consistent with the next sentence. "Each fragment functions identically to the soulknife’s regular mind blade." |
| SauroGrenom06-22-06, 07:42 PM | Erithmu, Looks generally good to me. A couple minor points. First Kracknol has armor spikes, so he can use them to cause lethal damage on grapple checks. Also you must be armed to take and AoO, and whenever Cyra throws her blade she is without a blade untill her next turn. She can reform it as a free action, but you cannot take a free action untill your turn. So after each throw she is unable to take an AoO untill her turn begins. I'll not ask you to edit the fight or anything, because none of those will change the outcome. I just wanted to point them out for future reference. Thanks for the very fast posting of the fight. |
| SauroGrenom06-22-06, 07:45 PM | The blade wind has wording almost identical to the Whirlwind Attack Feat: Benefit: When you use the full attack action, you can give up your regular attacks and instead make one melee attack at your full base attack bonus against each opponent within reach. When you use the Whirlwind Attack feat, you also forfeit any bonus or extra attacks granted by other feats, spells, or abilities.I assume it would be done the same way that the Whirlwind Attack feat is used. |
| bluemage5506-22-06, 07:51 PM | @D Sugui: Tactics sent for Lantash vs. Mattes. |
| Erithmu06-22-06, 07:51 PM | Erithmu, Looks generally good to me. A couple minor points. First Raskos has armor spikes, so he can use them to cause lethal damage on grapple checks. Also you must be armed to take and AoO, and whenever Cyra throws her blade she is without a blade untill her next turn. She can reform it as a free action, but you cannot take a free action untill your turn. So after each throw or blade wind attack she is unable to take an AoO untill her turn begins. I'll not ask you to edit the fight or anything, because none of those will change the outcome. I just wanted to point them out for future reference. Thanks for the very fast posting of the fight. I tired to find where it said that armor spikes could but used to deal damage with spikes on a opposed check, but I couldn't find it (checked spikes rules, grapple rules) And so I though they had to be used as light weapons which is a -4 vs Cyra's insane AC, so I went that way. If you can find it for my future use that would be spiffy. Also .. she never threw her blade, Bladewind states that it reforms .. all of her attacks were melee, which is why she probably didn't hit as much. the only time she wasn't unarmed was when she still had the potion. Also Whirlwind attack has the same 'ambigous' reading as bladewind. Then again it is not often that someone is throwing down a whirlwind style attack. *pokes Niqil: need a ruling for future use |

SRD or PHB under the armor spikes entry in the "Armor Descriptions" section (underlining mine): Armor Spikes: You can have spikes added to your armor, which allow you to deal extra piercing damage (see Table: Weapons) on a successful grapple attack. The spikes count as a martial weapon. If you are not proficient with them, you take a –4 penalty on grapple checks when you try to use them. You can also make a regular melee attack (or off-hand attack) with the spikes, and they count as a light weapon in this case. (You can’t also make an attack with armor spikes if you have already made an attack with another off-hand weapon, and vice versa.) Zevox |
| Erithmu06-22-06, 09:03 PM | grr .. read 'grapple attack' as 'melee attack in a grapple' .... It must be school that is knocking me out of my normal system. |

| NiQil06-22-06, 09:38 PM | @ Erithmu, Cyra Val, SauroGrenom @ Zevox: First, let me address the armor spikes, since this has already been addressed in the Court Decisions (why is it that no one thinks to look there?)... Q: How do Armor Spikes work in grapples? A: As per the 3.5 FAQ, you may either inflict normal damage with them using a grapple check (the "Damage Your Opponent" grapple option), or by using them as a light weapon and rolling an attack roll with a -4 penalty (the "Attack Your Opponent" grapple option). This was hashed out some time ago, and basically the thing that throws everyone off about Zevox' quote is the word "extra". When you use the Damage an Opponent action with spikes, you do not get your unarmed attack damage...you only get the armor spike damage (plus Str and other things you would normally get added on, of course). The damage is also lethal instead of subdual (barring those with IUS). Second, the Bladewind/Whirlwind Attack issue...my ruling may surprise you. First, to the part that is the main question....both Bladewind and Whirlwind require you to make an attack roll against each opponent you are striking with the attack. This is why you are required to give up all your other attacks in a full attack action. Cyra has it correct. Secondly, 'Rith mentioned that if this interpretation was correct, that psychic strike would discharge on the first roll only. This is incorrect. The Bladewind description goes out of its way to state that each fragment functions identically to a normal mindblade. That would mean that if the mindblade is charged with psychic strike, every fragment would get the benefit of the psychic strike damage. Think of it as as similar to Greater Manyshot, which it is intended to function in a similar fashion to, methinks. The Greater Manyshot description does a much better job of describing this than Whirlwind Attack does, but they are all basically meant to perform the same function, depending on the type of attack you are making. |
| Erithmu06-22-06, 10:02 PM | Follow up question: If a character w/ Whirlwind attack and a power/spell storing weapon I would assume would be under different rulings than the Bladewind ability in that it could only discharge on one target. Your explination and ruling makes sense. Also in the court rulings, I looked for a minimum dive distance to initiate a 'diving charge' to deal double damage, I figure it is probably 10ft of downward movement, but somewhere to reference it would be spiffy. |

SRD => Monsters => Types, Subtypes, & Special Abilities => Movement Modes: Fly: A creature with a fly speed can move through the air at the indicated speed if carrying no more than a light load. (Note that medium armor does not necessarily constitute a medium load.) All fly speeds include a parenthetical note indicating maneuverability, as follows: <snip> A creature that flies can make dive attacks. A dive attack works just like a charge, but the diving creature must move a minimum of 30 feet and descend at least 10 feet. It can make only claw or talon attacks, but these deal double damage. A creature can use the run action while flying, provided it flies in a straight line. Zevox |

| King Uther06-23-06, 12:16 AM | @Zevox Tactics for Alagar sent. I had them drafted earlier, but somehow they didn't send. This version is a little shorter and more concise, and hopefully will be enough to seal a win. @Telin I hope Blaergh bites Sunstroke and paralyzes him. Twice. I think this might end up being a crazy fight. |

| Caterane06-23-06, 04:30 AM | Guant nearly skeletal corpse with long tongue That's the same like giving away the monster, ie treating Aerryl as having 10 ranks in Knowledge Religion which he hasn't. A better description would have been Medium scary monster. That narrows the options down a bit but doesn't give it away. Monster Lore: I know that Iced's explanation might have been alright in a TT but here we have a limited list in the DMG. By knowing the number of monsters alone you can narrow the options down considerably; since when can you identify the monsters based on numbers in a TT game? You see the dilemma. So in order to not tell the player what he is fighting we have to keep our monster descriptions very general for those without ranks. |
| MindWandererB06-23-06, 05:08 AM | That's the same like giving away the monster, ie treating Aerryl as having 10 ranks in Knowledge Religion which he hasn't. A better description would have been Medium scary monster. That narrows the options down a bit but doesn't give it away. I would have gone with "medium gaunt humanoid" or something like that--the humanoid part is both easy to visually identify and important for tactics (can it use weapons? other gear?). I think maybe we need some guidelines as to what information would be appropriate. I've seen descriptions ranging from obvious (like this one) to unhelpful (last week's "3 medium somethings") to misleading ("flying marine animals"). My suggestions for things that are important and obvious: size, number and type of limbs, primary (obvious) movement mode, and possibly armor and weapons. Maybe a single additional word that summarizes a general physical description (such as "scary" or "gaunt" in this case). So this would be medium-sized, with two arms and two legs, walking, unarmored, with whatever weapons. I think that's a reasonable amount of information. @Iced: If you want to get a new monster for me, that's okay. You'd have to equip the mohrg with a potion of Fly or a crossbow anyway to make it a non-auto-win. On the other hand, if you used the description I just gave, it would apply to only a mind flayer or a mohrg, and my tactics would be much the same anyway (although I'd have tactics to stay away from potential mind blast range). Either way is okay with me--although there are several CR 8 baddies that would kill me without contest, so I'm a bit apprehensive about that. |
| Caterane06-23-06, 07:55 AM | @MW: Any idea on how to formulate the guideline? @Iced: MW is correct in that this would be an auto-loss, asides from your description being too concrete. Let's roll anew. Perius vs 2 Centipede Swarms is up. |

| MindWandererB06-23-06, 04:04 PM | @MW: Any idea on how to formulate the guideline?I thought that's what I just did... size, number and type of limbs, apparent primary movement mode, and any obvious equipment. Optionally a single adjective as a general description, but nothing too specific ("gaunt" is okay, "tongued" is not). @Huan: You have 45 minutes left to send me tactics. Nell has no defaults, so this will be a forfeit. |
| Zevox06-23-06, 04:36 PM | Blaergh vs Sunstroke vs Alagar is up. Had to make a rather major improvisation for one character, but the situation that came up was utterly not covered in tactics, so what can you do. Made a few errors here and there too, mostly regarding the size modifiers when Sunstroke expanded, but none of them affect anything the way things played out. Let me know if theres any problems I missed. Zevox |
| TelinArtho06-23-06, 04:50 PM | The main problem I have with the fight "technically" isn't covered in my tactics - but it is a bit of a common sense issue in my opinion. If you deny it to me - I won't hold it against you and it is a pretty minor shot as it is. However, the problem I have is here: Blaergh, seeing that Sunstroke is waiting to melee rather than the ranged combat he had feared, rushes forward to attack him, suffering a nasty blow from his guisarme in the process. Blaergh rushes forward to attack, yet when he is struck with the AoO and then the failed grapple - he doesn't get to attack - presumably because he had to use too much movement to do so. So all I'm asking is that instead of moving in so he could attack on the following round, he instead set up to be able to move in and attack. And I don't begrudge the pairings-maker - I'm almost to the point of trying to recreate him or just set him aside. I just have one more trick to try out first... |

What I probably should have done is compress back down to normal size and chase to melee--the horse would have difficult terrain, but Sunstroke wouldn't. Odds still would have been bad, though. Maybe jumping around would be better--silly, but it works, I think. And going after Trillian might have been good, too, or the horse. Ah, well. I did as well as I'd hoped. BTW, Sunstroke's expanded grapple is better than Alagar's even when both expanded and with GoI, plus he can flurry. |

Actually, that was in your tactics ("For Sunstroke - he can deflect arrows - so if I can't reach him by moving and attacking - set up so that I can in future rounds"), but another error of mine negates that, which I mentioned in the wrap-up: @ Group - I made two major errors early on that cancel each other out: with Blaergh I forgot to make sure his move at Sunstroke was such that he'd get an attack at the end, and with Sunstroke I forgot the expansion grapple modifiers, which would've let his readied grapple succeed. Given the end result of these two will be the same as what is now, they won't be edited in. So, since Sunstroke's readied grapple should've succeeded, you'd get no chance to attack anyway and the results would be unaltered. BTW, Sunstroke's expanded grapple is better than Alagar's even when both expanded and with GoI, plus he can flurry. True, but the problem is that you could never catch him while expanded. Grappling him in normal size means you have a +15 (or +13/+13 flurrying) vs his +11 expanded or +15 expanded & GoI. Rather risky if you ask me. Zevox |
| TelinArtho06-23-06, 04:59 PM | Actually - I just read the group comments when I went back... nevermind on that. I really haven't had much success with my "out of the box" creations. Ghouls can be pretty nasty - but since elves are immune to it specifically and duergar and dragons are immune to all paralysis - it cuts down on the options at the higher ECLs. With Aquin, if anyone remembers him, I was just too arrogant with him... |
| TelinArtho06-23-06, 05:14 PM | Also, although I am not asking for this to be changed in the fight, I want to address this line in Sunstroke's tactics: Now, stay put and ready an action to attack on pinpoint. That attack will be a grapple if within 5-10 feet, and a guisarme attack for damage beyond that. Note that if an enemy steps into the water surrounding the starting square, it gives their position away even if invisible. A ready action must have a concrete trigger and reaction. He can elect to not make that action if he wants - but the ready must be specific. In other words - he has to ready to attack when an opponent is pinpointed, but he can't say ready to grapple if an opponent gets within 10ft or attack with the guisarme if he doesn't come closer. That's effectively 2 ready actions in my opinion. Now the reason why I'm not asking for this to be fixed is because Sunstroke could see me coming - and he wanted to grapple me - and that's clear. In the future though - I believe this is an invalid ready action to have in your tactics. |

Ghouls can be pretty nasty - but since elves are immune to it specifically and duergar and dragons are immune to all paralysis - it cuts down on the options at the higher ECLs.Of course, a lot of that has to do with the bad luck Bleargh has had so far with pairings--there aren't many dragons out there, although there are a few duergar and lots of elves--but Zero, Sunstroke, and Alagar (Alagar especially) are all above-average characters. On the other hand, his main gimmick is a melee attack, and he needs to have the ability to get in close for that. Once you can afford potions of Fly and Invis on a regular basis, he should be okay. |
| MindWandererB06-23-06, 05:34 PM | Now the reason why I'm not asking for this to be fixed is because Sunstroke could see me coming - and he wanted to grapple me - and that's clear. In the future though - I believe this is an invalid ready action to have in your tactics.I'm not sure about that. I think "ready to attack" is a specific enough trigger to cover both situations. A grapple is a type of attack. It seems only natural that if an invisible opponent (which is what I was expecting) pops up within range of a reach weapon, the attack will be with that weapon, but if they pop up in close range, the attack will be unarmed, and thus a grapple. I would also reason that anything you can perform as an AoO--which is a split-second reaction to a combat opening--could fall under the same readied action. However, I can see both arguments. I don't think there's an overwhelming argument for either interpretation. |
| TelinArtho06-23-06, 05:41 PM | Well, my problem with it is this: Character A readies to attack if Character B enters his threatened area and he is able to perceive him. Character A threatens a total of 20ft on all sides - 10ft with a grapple and 10ft with a reach weapon. Now, if character B were invisible and character A only noticed him at 10ft - then the grapple happens; similarly if character B were not invisible, and character A noticed him at 20ft - he would attack with the reach weapon. What you cannot say is grapple him even if I see him enter my reach weapon area and I think he'll be able to reach my grapple area. I would also say that Readying to Attack and Readying to Grapple are two entirely different options - and this is part of where my argument stems from. If you ready to attack - you cannot also ready to grapple if the opportunity presents itself; if you ready to grapple and happen to hold a reach weapon - you cannot attack as the ready if he doesn't get within your grapple reach. |

That's a bit more judgment that I think a readied action implies. I'll be a bit more specific next time about that--I was focused a bit too much on invisibility.I would also say that Readying to Attack and Readying to Grapple are two entirely different options - and this is part of where my argument stems from. If you ready to attack - you cannot also ready to grapple if the opportunity presents itself; if you ready to grapple and happen to hold a reach weapon - you cannot attack as the ready if he doesn't get within your grapple reach.Well, I respectfully disagree. I'm of the opinion that "ready to attack" can cover anything covered by an attack action, including grapple, trip, disarm, sunder, etc. And as I said before, I don't think there's a strong case for either interpretation in the RAW. It's purely a judgment call. |

| Traevanon06-24-06, 12:41 AM | Sniping question: I am running the Death vs Saeandithas match and am not sure if what Saeandithas wants to do is possible. He is set up in the corner of the starting box behind full cover, and wants to move to a new cover position to snipe from in later rounds. The problem is that he only has 4 ranks in Hide and there is no other cover within 4 squares. He currently has a +30 total Hide modifier through potions. So, since almost all the cover in the arena is separated by more than 5 squares, is he in trouble? Will he be automatically located (but lost behind the new cover) if he moves more squares than he has ranks? Am I missing something? |

Well, you should note that you can stay hidden while moving from cover to cover if you are within 1 foot per rank of cover/concealment, not 1 square (which are 5 feet each), so its a little worse than you think there. As for the situation itself, if Death has line of sight to the squares between Saeandithas' position and where he wants to move to, he would auto-spot him until Saeandithas breaks line of sight again, yes. If not he'd be just fine. Of course, in such a situation I'd imagine Saeandithas can see Death too, so he could snipe from where he is until he gets spotted, but without knowing Sindorin's tactics or the exact situation I can't say for sure if thats what should be happening. | King Uther06-24-06, 01:03 AM | @Zevox, Mindwanderer, Telin I totally did not expect the fight to go like that. I figured I would be the main target, which is why I went defensive. I also figured at some point I would end up in melee with Sunstroke of Blaergh, which didn't happen. It was a much more expensive win than I would have wanted, but my tactics needed to allow it to happen just in case. One thing to mention which doesn't affect anything is that it looks like you forgot Alagar's +4 dodge bonus to AC vs Sunstroke. As far as the errors - I have no idea why my amulet has 118hp out of 101. That really doesn't make any sense. On the powerstone issue, I think I'm conforming to the old EL+2 instead of CL+2 rule. In that case, a cleric with the magic domain cannot use fly until he reaches 6 levels in cleric, right? |
| King Uther06-24-06, 01:25 AM | After seeing your debate, this is what I feel: I readied attack is very specific, because you are planning to do an action if something happens. The SRD uses the phrase "specify the action you will take and the conditions under which you will take it. Then, any time before your next action, you may take the readied action in response to that condition." I am not the best interpreter of the rules at the CoCo, but I feel like a readied action is intended to be specific enough that Sunstroke could attack with either the Guisarme or his grapple. |
| TelinArtho06-24-06, 01:48 AM | Well, like I said - I have no problem with either Ready action on its own (either Readying to attack or readying to grapple) - in fact I have no problem with Attack whenever an opponent is in range (and that attack would be guisarme if 15-20ft, grapple if 5-10ft). What I do have a problem where the player readying sees the person enter his outer range and not take the ready action, but take it instead when the player enters the inner area. And here - the only reason why I have the problem is because of the "metagaming" that goes with it. Well - if that player suddenly stops short within the guisarme range (after the player has already declined the ready action) - the readied player throws a fit and says - hey - I should've gotten my ready action then! Since we have to deal with imperfect scenarios and tactics - it is best to be as clear as possible. I think that this specific readied action will cause headaches and problems in the future (and it has in the past too...). I just want to make sure that people are aware that while this is a valid ready statement - in the situation that unfolded - I disagree that it was handled correctly. If the pitlord had reworded the ready - since Blaergh was already in view - that would be infinitely more preferable, since Sunstroke wanted to grapple. Anyway - I've said my piece and reiterated. If you don't agree - that's fine. If you do agree- hopefully it will get put into the court decisions, or even clarified in the Rules of Gladius. |
| King Uther06-24-06, 01:48 AM | The tactics deadline has approached, and since I will be penalized for being late by loss of credits it is my unfortunate duty to enforce the Friday tactics deadline. |

As I said, my tactics were written with the assumption that Alagar would sneak up on me invisible, and I thus wouldn't have a choice of ranges to attack. I think we're largely arguing semantics at this point (although when it comes to ready actions, semantics are certainly important!). |

I think that's the point Telin was driving at though King Uther--grappling and attacking with the weapon are both different kinds of attacking, and should be a no-no. Another way to look at it is, he could be a psion saying that he "readies to manifest a power", manifesting Energy Ball if the target is pinpointed outside of 40 feet or Energy Burst if the target is pinpointed within 40 feet. If you look at it in that light, it's very clearly a no-no. |

Since Alagar only has a ML of 2 as a psychic warrior and a ML of 1 as a Psion both the Hostile Empathic Transfer and Touchsight are out of his limits - he'd need one more level of Psychic Warrior for Hostile Empathic Transfer and two more levels of Psion for Touchsight (since its not a Psychic Warrior power). As for the dodge bonus, yep, I completely missed that. Not exactly the most often used Dwarf racial trait. Sorry about that. Zevox |

| Traevanon06-24-06, 09:15 AM | Death (NiQil) vs. Sećndithas (Sindorin) - Traevanon [Arena] (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=9458500&postcount=678) Rounds 1-8 are complete, I will be picking it up again tonight. It could be a long fight. If you see any errors let me know, I'd like to fix them before I get to round 50. |

It could be a long fight. If you see any errors let me know, I'd like to fix them before I get to round 50. I see some rather large tactical errors that you touched on....I should have healed a lot more than I did already. My tactics state to heal anytime I heal below 25 hp. That should be followed to the letter. Before you go any further, you should redo those opening rounds with this in place. |
| Traevanon06-24-06, 02:45 PM | Alrighty, it probably wont make much difference though as he'll just stick more arrows in you. I'll have to reuse as many rolls as possible of course. |
| SauroGrenom06-24-06, 07:47 PM | Little Daisy vs Eraca is finished. |
| Zevox06-24-06, 10:36 PM | Little Daisy vs Eraca is finished. Wow - the dice just plain hated Eraca on that one. Her armor interfering with her one and only memorized spell buff was big... and the critical miss on the true strike shot... and the failed climb check (though it should only be DC 15, not 19, still fails though)... and no less than two natural 20s on Daisy's end... ouch. Just one thing, in the results, Eraca's Cat's Grace spell was from memory, not a scroll. Congratulations to Daisy on being the first to defeat Eraca, and in arena that worked against you no less. Zevox |
| DSugui06-24-06, 10:38 PM | Little Daisy vs Eraca is finished. Wow! Daisy is luckier than I would expect... Everything that seems to go wrong with Valek goes right with this girl... Anyways, thanks for the run Sauro. |
| Traevanon06-25-06, 12:28 AM | Okay, the edit is up... its possible that I'm not running active spot and listen checks in the manner that other pitlords do. Would someone uninvolved please look it over? Death will not be able to find Seaendithas if he decides to stop firing at this point in the battle and just stays glued to the wall at his current position (his logical choice since Death is right near him). From what I understand Seaendithas can hide in his square as long as he is within 4 feet (# of ranks) of cover and doesnt *leave* it. Alternately Seaendithas can slide around the wall, but this would cause a small but important amount of noise. Q: How does hiding work in the arena? A: You are autospotted if you leave cover/concealment and your opponent has line of sight to you. This includes moving from cover/concealment to cover/concealment. The exception to this condition is that if you are moving from cover/concealment to cover/concealment and are within 1 ft/rank of cover/concealment at all times, you are still considered hidden and an opposed check would be required for anyone with line of sight to see you. |

If there is nothing between you and the opponent, the opponent pretty much autospots you. |

What Ravashack said above is correct....there has to be cover or concealment in order for hiding to occur. If there is no cover or concealment, there can be no hiding. Also, in that last round, I noticed what I assume is typo error....Death should be at 24 hp instead of 34. |
| Stormwind06-25-06, 05:11 AM | Okay, the edit is up... its possible that I'm not running active spot and listen checks in the manner that other pitlords do. This is actually incorrect (the bolded section). The rules for Hiding work as follows: - If you have cover or concealment with respect to your opponent, then you can hide. Otherwise you are spotted. - The ranks of cover ruling only applies if you are moving. In particular moving from one patch of cover or concealment to another path of cover or concealment. With regards to the current fight, if Death moves 3 squares north from his position in round 8, then Saendithas will not be able to hide as he will not have cover or concealment with regards to Death. He will have to move at least 3 square north since only moving 2 square does not negate cover as at least one line between the two squares must then intersect the border between Saedithas and the square to the south of him, thus still giving him cover with respect to Death if he only moves 2 squares. To illustrate: http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=Saendithas,M,35 ,55;b=Death,M,32,52,32,55;los=32,55,35,5 5,1 Also note that since Saendithas has only 4 ranks in hide, the ranks of cover ruling is irrelevant for this fight since any adjacent square is considered 5 ft away. |
| Pitlords06-25-06, 08:35 AM | Please note that you level up normally now! @DSugui: Little Daisy leveled up. |
| Pittbull06-25-06, 09:33 AM | @Telin/Abyssal: The fight Sir Valkin vs Manzarf (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=9451335&postcount=674) is pretty finshed, please check for errors. I'm exhausted now after 64.Rounds of boreness and will add the rest later. |
| TelinArtho06-25-06, 10:03 AM | Sorry Pittbull - I know that it must've been painful - but in the interest of keeping my equipment for the next fight - I had to do it. That being said - there's only 2 things I would mention and neither one is so important to me to ask you to alter the fight. First off - in his tactics, although he doesn't say so - it would seem reasonable that he still wants the enlarge potion. His attack bonus would stay the same with the bow (since he would lose the penalty for being too weak for his bow) and the damage dice would increase. That being said - he would lose 2 AC and the cover bonus. Since the situation wasn't explicitly covered though - I can see making a pitlord decision about it. Had my tactics been: "Shoot once or twice and if he isn't enlarged - charge in." I would think he'd be upset to see me charge in and not be enlarged for his tactics. Just a thought. The only other thing, again something not explicitly mentioned, is when I am healing. Why would I stay at one range increment? Overseer can move me to the opposite side of the arena whilst I heal. This is one of those things that "just makes sense" to do - but at the same time, I didn't specifically ask for it - so I have no problem leaving it the way it is. It would only make a difference in round 18 anyway - so it is maybe a savings of one CLW charge in the fight anyway. |
| Pittbull06-25-06, 10:13 AM | Since Manzarf isn't dumb, so I made a pitlord-decision, not to enlarge. -6 on AC would have been a big disadvantage in a ranged battle. BTW, you gave me a idea, when I should heal: when Valkin drops under his half HP-ammount. Let's wait, what Abyssal has to say.... |
| TelinArtho06-25-06, 10:27 AM | Actually, looking it over some more - I'm not especially happy with your two improvisations about his tactics: Kneeling and only shooting one arrow per round. The first is a minor difference, but the latter is a big deal to me - since he has no mention of it in his tactics. In fact, if I hadn't specifically in my tactics, I'd be curious if you would've done it at all. |
| SauroGrenom06-25-06, 11:06 AM | New Gladius Record has been posted. I'll be happy to edit in anything you may want to post there. I cannot follow every character in the Arena, but if something interesting is going on, point it out to me and I'll put it into the weekly. Also I invite everyone to notify me about interesting things you may know about. If one of your characters has a grudge with another, let me know. Or if you are in a quest where something happens to affect the world of gladius, then send me a pm and I'll put a short article into the weekly. Also if you pitlord a particularly long or interesting battle, or if you write a story about it, then let me know and I'll put that in the weekly as well. |
| Abyssal Stalker06-25-06, 11:51 AM | @Pittbull: I have no complaints about the stupid fight. If a paladin doesn't smite-charge a filthy evil-doer at first sight, so be it. I don't think that you improvised too much on my side, I wasn't being too specific because this is just what I wanted to avoid. We can speculate about our tactics, if they were run correctly, but I wish to avoid it. If Telin feels that an edit is needed and you agree, then go ahead if you feel the same. I'll lose the fight anyway since he won't come close. |
| Stormwind06-25-06, 12:01 PM | Gaston vs Anixx is up. A close forest battle. It definitely shows the limitations of large creatures and flight on this map. Please let me know if there are any glaring mistakes. |

Coming into melee range, while it would've worked for me most likely (ride by attack would deny you an AoO - so I'd only need to worry about your ready action. I have enough back up weapons to make it work for me I think), but at the cost of losing my weapons for the 3rd fight of the cycle. |
| DSugui06-25-06, 12:59 PM | Please note that you level up normally now! @DSugui: Little Daisy leveled up. Ok, but I have a doubt: are the spells a caster gets when leveling up available int he next fights of the cycle? For example, Daisy is now a 6th level druid, so she gets one more daily use of wild shape and a 2nd level and a 3rd level spell. Are these available for use in her last fight? |
| Pittbull06-25-06, 01:06 PM | @Telin: But you don't complain, that I used cover from riding in favor for Valkin. This wasn't mentioned in your tactics either. ;) I always try to handle everybody the best in the any given situation. If you wants some edits, just give me the certain points and I will edit them. |
| Stormwind06-25-06, 01:12 PM | @Zevox: I just noticed a small but significant typo in the Blaergh vs Sunstroke vs Alagar fight results. In Gaston's results you state that PSI gains 714gp. While I would love for this to be true, I'm afraid it just ain't so. ;) It should be 174gp. |

My mounted knight got stuck in the forest with a druid and this fight didn't make things any easier. I was just looking forward an interesting fight, but I can't blame you for doing what's smart. My apologies if I seemed rude. :pumpkin: What do you mean by losing your weapons? I was under the impression that sundered weapons are still returned after the fight, not in the end of the cycle. |
| Zevox06-25-06, 07:37 PM | What do you mean by losing your weapons? I was under the impression that sundered weapons are still returned after the fight, not in the end of the cycle. Thats currently being debated in the Council. I guess for some reason Telin thought that was the way it already was. As far as I know even if thats what is decided upon whatever is decided in the Council still won't go into effect until the week after. @Zevox: I just noticed a small but significant typo in the Blaergh vs Sunstroke vs Alagar fight results. I was under the impression that sundered weapons are still returned after the fight, not in the end of the cycle. Yes - I definitely assumed it was already implemented... I generally accept rules changes in my mind before they are actually put in place. This helps adjusting to the new rules for me. @Telin: But you don't complain, that I used cover from riding in favor for Valkin. This wasn't mentioned in your tactics either. I always try to handle everybody the best in the any given situation. If you wants some edits, just give me the certain points and I will edit them. Touche - using your mount for cover has always been a given for me. Kneeling I've never really considered in that light. As to the fight - I have no qualms with it. There are certainly parts that I would've done differently as a pitlord - but putting more time into it to save me a charge or two on my wand doesn't seem a good use of your time. |

| TheMagister06-26-06, 02:26 AM | Oh, man. What a way to go. :tantrum: Still, there's one thing I saw that is worth mentioning: If Duskima is squeezing beneath the statue between its legs and Mssr. Hood tumbles away to the right, wouldn't Mssr. Hood get the cover bonus granted from the statue and be exempt from the lance AoO? Further (and on an opinion-based note): I think it's stupid to allow the use of the squeezing rule between a solid space (the statue's leg) and (what should be ruled as) a hostile environment space (the lava). Squeezing is for fitting your large butt into that narrow hallway, not for avoiding environmental hazards. However, I realize that this was a Pitlord call and do not contest it. I just wish to express my PoV. Thanks for the good run, Z! TM |

The fight lacks totally coordinates, so I have no idea what is happening. There also seems to be several pitlord decisions and I have no idea why they are made. You should check out some other fights, for example the Anixx vs Gaston fight ran by Stormwind is a well-done fight. I can't accept the fight as it stands. I would also like to hear Zevox's opinion on this one, or if someone else would check it out. |

I would also like to hear Zevox's opinion on this one, or if someone else would check it out. As it stands, I believe the fight is invalid since the pitlording rules require that the round by round summary must include the positions of all combatants. The relevant quote from the rules of gladius under pitlording are listed below. You also have to include a summary after each round. This summary must show the positions of all combatants (including those of all summons and allies; don't forget elevation in case of flyers). If the character is mounted, just write "mounted" into the position space and list the coordinates along with the mount. Current hitpoints, maximum hitpoints, remaining spell-levels and power points, and all spells, powers, and effects that are currently affecting a character, plus the duration (for very long spells you don't have to list the duration) are also mandatory. That also includes things like "summoning" or "has charged" albeit without duration. Don't worry, you only have to type it in once, then copy and paste it (with the appropriate modifications) for the following rounds. Thus the fight must remain invalid until the round by round coordinates are added in. I would recommend using the CoCo Mapping Tool (http://www.hwx.it/coco/), and copy and paste the appropriate image text into the fight. |
| Macbrea06-26-06, 08:44 AM | The Fight (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=9447321&postcount=673) between Annalina Vale (Zevox) and Izumi (Macbrea) is ready, I did it pretty badly but I hope to improve on future attempts. Bah, it is run fine. But since, I am at 0/16 hps I do ask that you take a full round charge and a swing. Which will drop me to -1 hps. If i get lucky and hit with 4d6+9 vs hps 26 there is a possibility I will bring him to a negative number also. In which case by the rules we both start bleeding out on our initatives until the first person reaches -10. If I miss with the attack, the fight is over. |
| Traevanon06-26-06, 08:59 AM | No full round actions when at 0hp... Death vs Seaenithas (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=9458500&postcount=678) is on round 36, I expect I will be able to do 40 more rounds before the time limit, so there is some danger of a holdover. |
| Erithmu06-26-06, 09:33 AM | Loddick vs Riana Dreambinder is up. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=9465776&postcount=682) A melee fight in the Plains. About how I exptected that to go. Strange as it may sound I might have gone with the 5ft step and throw option rather than the straight melee option, It is still within Riana's tactics, I only make this point since Airel isn't really here, then again you almost gave me the forefit. |
| Macbrea06-26-06, 09:56 AM | No full round actions when at 0hp... Sorry, A move and an attack. Which is allowed as per the SRD rules to disabled. |
| Stormwind06-26-06, 10:19 AM | Sorry, A move and an attack. Which is allowed as per the SRD rules to disabled. Actually you may only take a move OR an attack when disabled. Here is the quote from the SRD. Disabled: A character with 0 hit points, or one who has negative hit points but has become stable and conscious, is disabled. A disabled character may take a single move action or standard action each round (but not both, nor can she take full-round actions). She moves at half speed. Taking move actions doesn’t risk further injury, but performing any standard action (or any other action the DM deems strenuous, including some free actions such as casting a quickened spell) deals 1 point of damage after the completion of the act. Unless the action increased the disabled character’s hit points, she is now in negative hit points and dying. A disabled character with negative hit points recovers hit points naturally if she is being helped. Otherwise, each day she has a 10% chance to start recovering hit points naturally (starting with that day); otherwise, she loses 1 hit point. Once an unaided character starts recovering hit points naturally, she is no longer in danger of losing hit points (even if her current hit points are negative). |
| Erithmu06-26-06, 10:20 AM | Sorry, A move and an attack. Which is allowed as per the SRD rules to disabled. I think you could also get a paritial charge since it is allowed as a standard action when a full charge is 'impossible.' I didn't look at my books but I dunno if disabled states that you cannot charge. I think it does limit you to single actions though so you would have to partial charge if you wanted to make an attack. |
| Macbrea06-26-06, 10:21 AM | Ah, well. nevermind then. Will just update the character. Now, comes the silly question was anything decided on wether your allowed to level during this 3wc? |
| Stormwind06-26-06, 10:35 AM | Ah, well. nevermind then. Will just update the character. Now, comes the silly question was anything decided on wether your allowed to level during this 3wc? Yes ... the rules have been updated with info for the 3fc. Here's the relevant quote: You can add the XP gained and level up normally. If you gain a level during your 3-Fight Cycle you have to fight the remaining fights in a higher league. Although you haven't rested yet, you can make use of new abilities that depend on rest to work (spells, x/d abilities, etc). Just fill the newly gained spell slots with spells and mark new x/d abilities as unused. This only applies to abilities and spells that you gained with the new level. |
| Zevox06-26-06, 10:42 AM | I don't enjoy saying this, but the fight is really hard to follow. Yeah, it is a little difficult to follow, though it doesn't sound like anything totally unbelievable happened because of it. I do have a couple of issues though, none of which would change the fight. The main one is that Hawkeye seems to have gotten the durations for a lot of spells wrong. Longstrider lasts 1 hour for example, not 1 minute. Flaming sphere should've lasted one more round (duration of 5 rounds due to Destra's CL being 5, but it only got 4 uses), and Produce Flame should've lasted two more touches or another 17 rounds (whichever came first). Entangle should never have ended (duration should've been 50 rounds). Jonathan's Spiritual Weapon should have attacked for one more round too. Barkskin's duration was incorrect too, though thankfully that doesn't matter for the fight. In round 6 we have the anomaly of Destra taking two standard actions - drinking her potion and casting Entangle - which can't happen by the rules. He also seems not to have applied any penalties for being entangled, since Jonathan was still moving about and got his full AC, and never made a strength or escape artist check to get out. Also, I'm curious as to why he had both of us go after our opponent's allies first, when both of us asked to focus on our actual opponent (to the point where my tactics even specifically include the note "Focus only on Jonathan, not his mount."). I can understand Misery fighting back if Carcaruva attacked it (though I can't understand why she would do so in the first place, since Destra gave her no orders and her defend trick wasn't triggered), but not why Destra or Jonathan would go after Misery or Carcaruva rather than each other. I'd really rather not deprive Jonathan of Misery for two weeks, and I'm lucky he didn't deprive Destra of Carcaruva for next week. All in all, I'll understand if you want a rerun Abyssal. There are many errors in the fight, and the mapping/coordinates issue. If Hawkeye could edit it in time, that would be great. If not, I'll leave it up to you whether it gets held over. Personally, I hate having fights held over for any reason, and I'd normally be inclined to just take it and move on (particularly since I don't think the result will change), but in this case I'm a little hesitant to do so with the ally death problem. It was never my intention to get Jonathan's mount killed, which would hurt him badly in subsequent fights, and due to that I'd be willing to accept a hold over on this particular fight without any problems. @ Macbrea - As Stormwind said, you get to move or attack, not both. The best Izumi could do is get Annalina in her threat range, in which case she can tumble away and shoot or stab her with her rapier. Zevox |
| Macbrea06-26-06, 10:47 AM | Well, That should result in an odd effect. Izumi is having such a hard time right now because she is not spent money on armor. I was waiting til I leveled to have a +10 craft armor and weaponsmithing before i worked on her armor and weapons. With an assumed loss on my next fight that will have me starting a new cycle at 5900/6000 exp. Are we allowed to break up our three week cycle with a full activity? We aren't allowed to buy stuff, I understand that. But she will fight one fight and level, then be sitting on about 5k gold waiting to be able to turn it into an armor. Ah, well. I guess next 4 weeks tactics will be easy to write. Izumi's tactics -Charge opponent on sight and swing Kasuri-gama -If Opponent not visible run toward (Random Left/Right) start box looking for opponent. -Grapple if chain broken |

I just wish to express my PoV. Noted. Personally, I felt was an AOK move. Just as I could see a horse or Ogre squeezing along a human-sized ledge on the side of a mountain, for instance, I could easily see a horse pressing itself against that statue so as not to fall in the lava. As you say, purely opinion-based interpretation there. Zevox |
| Zevox06-26-06, 11:00 AM | Are we allowed to break up our three week cycle with a full activity? Nope. Full Activities, like quests, can only be done between cycles. Sucks in this particular instance, but hey, what can you do? Maybe you'll get lucky and win your next fight, and it won't be an issue. Zevox |
| Macbrea06-26-06, 11:00 AM | I have always treated the statue in the center of the Grand Hall (temple) arena as a Gargantuan Immoble Construct. As stricly by the rules your not allowed to cut corners. In which case noone could leap out to that island at all or move around it. But if you assume it is a Garguantuan creature that cannot move then a creature 2 size categories smaller then it may freely enter it's square. http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=temple;a=blah,F,13,19;b =Test,G,14,17;opacity=55 Is what the footprint of a gargantuan creature would look like. http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=temple;a=blah,F,13,19;b =Test,G,14,17;style=s;opacity=55 For squares. |

Maybe you'll get lucky and win your next fight, and it won't be an issue. There is an exception to this rule, however: if your fight is held over, you get a Full Activity as compensation. PM Pitlords with the content of this activity. Presumably, though, if it's an activity that results in you getting an item, you don't get it until the end of the cycle. |
| TelinArtho06-26-06, 11:34 AM | As it stands, I believe the fight is invalid since the pitlording rules require that the round by round summary must include the positions of all combatants. The relevant quote from the rules of gladius under pitlording are listed below. Thus the fight must remain invalid until the round by round coordinates are added in. I would recommend using the CoCo Mapping Tool (http://www.hwx.it/coco/), and copy and paste the appropriate image text into the fight. Until all of the maps have coordinates actually listed on the maps - I don't think requiring coordinates is the way to go. For instance, not everyone will be able to consistently use the mapping tool for a fight - and right now it is the only place where the coordinates even exist for some of the maps. |
| MindWandererB06-26-06, 11:37 AM | Until all of the maps have coordinates actually listed on the maps - I don't think requiring coordinates is the way to go. For instance, not everyone will be able to consistently use the mapping tool for a fight - and right now it is the only place where the coordinates even exist for some of the maps.On the other hand, if the mapper becomes unavailable for some reason, then the coordinates will be all we have to go by. Look at all the dynamaps from before the new maps were added: because the coordinate system was changed, every single one of those maps is now broken. |
| TelinArtho06-26-06, 11:43 AM | Well MWB - the only thing I can say to that is that making the job of the pitlord easier is higher on my list of making sure it is still easy to read after the a month has gone by. By the same extension, if I am running a fight and the mapper is down - what am I to do? If the coordinates were available on the maps - I have no issue with requiring them. On those maps that they do not appear - I think it is just "impossible" to work with. Like I said - I don't always have the availability to use the mapper and when I have used it - I didn't like the feel of it - for the entire battle. If it was able to handle the coordinates and render them real time for the entire fight - and it was in a way that I find convenient - then most of my issues would be moot. As it is - if I want to see where things have happened - I need to go back to a hand altered map in paint - but if I need to do that - I might as well just use that map. Anyway - most of my argument can also be resolved by just putting coordinates on the maps that don't have them. Without that - what's the point of having coordinates in the first place? Ironically - with just coordinates and the mapper unavailable - the coordinates are just as useless - unless you want to count the squares... |
| TelinArtho06-26-06, 11:58 AM | @Pittbull - I need to update Sir Valkin, so I've tallied up the used items from the fight for you: Sir Valkin - 13 charges from the Wand of Cure Light Wounds, 50 arrows fired (2 hits, 48 misses). I'm going to assume that 50% of the misses will survive - giving me 24 arrows recovered. Also, with the time roll, I have 10 hours minus 4 hours and 68 rounds left on Overseer for fight 3. Manzarf - Potion of Protection from Good, 60 arrows fired (8 hits, 52 misses). Again, assuming a 50% recovery - he gets 27 arrows recovered. For rewards - Sir Valkin gets 1800xp/2000gp with a 6.25% penalty for Foreman = 1687xp/1875gp. Manzarf gets 600xp/666gp with a 6.25% bonus for my ally = 637xp/707gp. Unless of course the rules for allies has changed... did the "only gp penalty" go into effect yet? Off to check the rules on that... [EDIT] Rules seems to still indicate both xp and gp. Also - Sir Valkin earns 243gp for CEF. |
| Iced06-26-06, 12:13 PM | @Stormwind - In Anixx's fight my tactics said that if i was wounded Anixx would go behind cover and attempt to heal before moving to attack. Instead he charged. Please run the fight with him healing, it may or may not make a difference, but i'd rather have the loss if it at least follows my tactics. If any ajustment were to be made Anixx would have teleported away to heal instead of charging. |
| Abyssal Stalker06-26-06, 12:57 PM | Yeah, it is a little difficult to follow, though it doesn't sound like anything totally unbelievable happened because of it. Like I said, I can't accept the fight in its current state. But it is up to the pitlord to decide if it needs to be edited. Hawkeye, I hope you see here what is the correct thing to do and make the right decision. Like Zevox pointed out, there shouldn't be any reason that the allies would be killing each other. The reasons for your decisions are hard to understand because of the lack of coordinates. You really should try the awesome mapmaker Dracazar has made. It sucks that my horse is killed in the first fight. (You should note that this is my first fight in the wrap-up, not second!) I hope that you check things out and reconsider your interpretations. @My players: please be patient, I'll try to get my fight done tonight or at least tomorrow. We were celebrating the Midsummer at weekend and now I have quite a lot of RL issues to deal with. Most important being our wedding invitations! |
| Zevox06-26-06, 01:09 PM | @ Huan - I'm still awaiting ammendments to your tactics for Dameon due to the major error I PMed you. If I don't recieve any by tomorrow morning, I'll be forced to the run fight with your tactics as is, which would not be good for you. Please get me any changes you want to make to them soon! @ Abyssal - As near as I can tell, with the coordinates issue and the myriad errors in the fight, it would be well within your rights to ask Pitlords to have the fight held over. Just PM him with the request to take a look at the fight and decide if he feels it should be held over too if Hawkeye doesn't fix things. Zevox |

| bluemage5506-26-06, 04:10 PM | Lantash the Ancient (bluemage55) vs. Mattes (mattes) is up HERE The only issue that came up is regarding the expendables cap: what happens when someone exceeds the cap? I ran the fight considering he had less expendables than listed, but something in the back of my head keeps saying that I should have make him autolose the fight... My tactics specifically indicated that my tactics made a key assumption: that Mattes would not have access to any of his scrolls. I furthermore stated that I would forfeit if that assumption was not met rather than waste resources on a tactics breakdown. I expected that since Mattes was over the limit, he would not have any use of his expendables (if he were even to be allowed to fight rather than being jailed). Picking and choosing which scrolls to keep leaves a lot of objectivity to the imagination. I propose that either the fight is rerun without those expendables if the consensus is to allow Mattes to fight at all, or that Lantash be allowed to forfeit without wasting resources since I explicitly stated this in my tactcs. |

| Abyssal Stalker06-27-06, 12:49 AM | Hey, sorry guys, I forgot to post the map. I've read your guys' issues, and I'll go back and redo the fight. Thanks! It looks already a lot better. One thing I'm confused with is when Jonathon is mounted and when not. He falls, but doesn't use any actions to climb on the horse. After that they seem to be moving together. BTW, the mapmaker has a nice feature in it. You can choose the size of the pointer, so I suggest that in the future you'd use a large marker to represent a mounted combatant! |

The reason I did not think about that aspect of the fight is because I wasn't quite sure it would get that far. What I expected was a quick death either way - either him running up to me and squeezing me to death, or myself actually being able to remain hidden and quickly take him down... Nice patience with the pitlording. |
| NiQil06-27-06, 07:57 AM | Khabil (Traevanon) => Geoff (baalzamon999) => Volke (Dr.Funk) is up HERE Lacking tactics from all parts, but a fun fight in the end. Also, I would like an Elder's opinion on this issue: Thanks I gues that would be my cue... As has always been the case with a violation on a character, it is up to the pitlord to determine the effect a violation has on an individual character. If a character has a crafted weapon that hasn't been linked, the pitlord could simply deny access to that weapon, or they could forfeit the fight for that player based on the violation...or they could find some other alternative. There is no set process for this, since it is entirely up to the pitlord. This situation is a little stickier, since it is not a single thing that makes a violation, but rather several things together (expendables in this case) that make the violation (going over the cap). However, the decision still lies with the pitlord. In my opinion, a reasonable penalty would be to take away expendables at random until the character in question was below the expendable cap. A more harsh penalty (but still entirely legitimate) would be to deny access to all expendables. A very severe penalty (but again entirely legitimate) would be to forfeit the fight for that character based on the violation. In short, bluemage made an assumption that he shouldn't have made, and wrote tactics based on that assumption. DSugui made a decision as a pitlord regarding the violation, which turned out to not be the same as what bluemage thought it would be. DSugui's decision on the matter is final. bluemage, however, always has the right to throw in the towel. |

I propose that either the fight is rerun without those expendables if the consensus is to allow Mattes to fight at all, or that Lantash be allowed to forfeit without wasting resources since I explicitly stated this in my tactcs. In this case I totally agree with NiQil. When a player exceeds the expendibles cap, it is up to the pitlord to resolve the issue in some way. DSugui's choice is a reasonable one and Bluemage's character should surrender. As a general rule of thumb in these cases, I would start by removing the most expensive scrolls first from the character's sheet. Then work down as needed. Most characters have only a few high level scrolls worth a relatively large amount of money. That way the likelyhood of being required to make choices is decreased, because removing one or two of these scrolls will bring you under the limit quickly. |

| DSugui06-27-06, 09:12 AM | One comment: Khabil doesnt need to draw his tower shield in round one as he already had it out. If he did have to draw it he's been trained in Quickdraw-fu. But winners never complain. ;) You must have one hand free to cast, Treav, so Khabil couldn't have the shield while casting Longstrider. And Quickdraw works only for weapons, not shields. ;) [EDIT] Ok, Lantash the Ancient (bluemage55) vs. Mattes (mattes) is edited with the cleric's surrender. I don't like seeing auto wins, specially in these days of 3WC, and Mattes got 2 in a row... |
| Traevanon06-27-06, 09:28 AM | Okay, you got me on the quickdraw though I think its more of an interpretation. People quickdraw tanglefoot bags, alchemical fire, rocks, daggers, two handed swords, table legs, iron skillets... why not shields? They can bash. However, just trying to understand not arguing, I start with no weapon in hand a Scroll of Longstrider and Tower Shield, why cant I cast the spell on the scroll? |
| Traevanon06-27-06, 09:34 AM | Wait.... you are saying I have to hold the scroll AND have a free hand? Oops, gotcha. I'll keep that in mind for the future. |
| TelinArtho06-27-06, 09:38 AM | If the spell has a somatic component, then you still need that component when casting from a scroll - hence the needing 2 hands. Okay - its Tuesday, so let's see what fights are still outstanding: LEVEL 3 FIGHTS Indrithia (Zevox) vs. Ten Vermond (Soullord) : Anaconda [Plains] Pealos Masus (mattes) => Illior (Setzertrancer) => Hawkeye (Hawkeye 60) : DSugui [Hunter] [Sewer] LEVEL 4 FIGHTS Dameon Leonne (Huan) vs. Micah Ashald (DarthVegan) : Zevox [Arena] LEVEL 5 FIGHTS War (NiQil) vs. Kimahri Ronso (Dr.Funk) : Huan [Forest] Pestilence (NiQil) vs. Faelto (TelinArtho) : Huan [Temple] LEVEL 6 FIGHTS Zero (MindwandererB) vs. Dronnar (DSugui) : Abyssal Stalker [Temple] LEVEL 8 FIGHTS Aerryl Nalladar (MindWandererB) vs. Unknown Monster : Iced [Arena] Now - Huan is historically a little late with his fights - so I have little doubt that those will be finished. Abyssal has said that he's running behind, but should have enough time. I think Zevox said that his fight will be up but close to the deadline. I haven't seen anything of Anaconda I don't think and I'm not sure the state of the monster fight for Aerryl or the other fights. If there are tactics to be sent - go ahead and send them to me. I will try to get fights finished on a first-come, first-served basis. People in Huan's/Abyssal's and Zevox's fights need not apply unless they come on and say they need the help. /d |
| Zevox06-27-06, 10:32 AM | Destra vs. Jonathon has been redone (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=9478046&postcount=686). Will someone not involved in the fight please go through it to make sure I got all expendables/spells used noted in the wrap-up section? Thanks. Well, I know I'm not "not involved in the fight", but it looks to me like you got it. Edit: Actually, you forgot free acivities. Destra made 125 gp with Profession (Hunter), and Jonathan guarded his belongings. Just a couple of comments on it, none of which will require changing the fight: When a character is entangled, they can't move unless they break out of the entanglement (requiring either a DC 20 strength or escape artist check as a full-round action), and even then they can only move at half speed through the radius of the entangle and will have to make new reflex saves to not become entangled again on the caster's turn if they don't clear that radius. So Jonathan couldn't have mounted his horse, and neither he nor his horse could've moved at all, without making some strength checks. No need to edit for it since Jonathan lost anyway, its more a for future reference thing since Entangle is a commonly used spell as far as Druids go. Also, the duration on Longstrider is still slightly off. 100 rounds is 10 minutes. Longstrider lasts an hour, which is 600 rounds. Not that it matters given that the fight wasn't likely to last that long, but for future reference thats the length an hour-long spell lasts. Though most of us just denote the duration of spells with no chance to end during the fight like that as "long" rather than the actual round they'll end, but thats your choice. Anyway, otherwise looks good to me, thanks for the quick edit :) . @ Telin/others interested - I'm about to run Dameon vs Micah. I was waiting for a revision to Dameon's tactics and only recieved it last night. Zevox |
| Zevox06-27-06, 01:22 PM | And as promised, Dameon Leonne vs Micah Ashald is complete with time to spare. A Paladin fighting a Cleric of the God of Paladins... am I the only who thinks thats a little wierd? As for the other fights, I'm a little loath to give up on Anaconda. Its his first time pitlording, but he did acknowledge that he recieved tactics and said he would run it ASAP back on page 4 of this thread. If we don't hear anything from him by the deadline today (which is in a few hours) though I'd say it may be worthwhile for someone else to take it over. Zevox |
| TelinArtho06-27-06, 01:29 PM | I don't give up on people - I just take their fights if it looks like they'll be late... I actively watch rolls in both the CoCo roller and Invisible castle - if I saw rolls that indicated he was running the fight - then I would have mentioned it. For instance, Huan has rolled the starting locations and initiatives for both of his outstanding fights - but nothing more at the moment. If you want me to run an outstanding fight - PM me the tactics and find your opponent to send them as well. |
| Zevox06-27-06, 01:33 PM | Well, its possible hes using his own dice or another roller for the fight. I suppose you're right though - it can't hurt to have you run it just to make sure it gets done. If Anaconda posts it too we'll just his version, assuming it isn't riddled with errors. I'll forward you Indrithia's tactics and PM SoulLord to send you Ten's when he gets the chance. Edit: Tactics forwarded, PM to SoulLord sent. Zevox |
| MindWandererB06-27-06, 02:29 PM | @Telin: I'm pretty sure Iced won't be able to run the monster fight vs. Aerryl, because he needs a new monster (having given too much info away plus having it be an auto-win without equipment), but doesn't have the 3.5 DMG on him. You should probably pick this one up, since without a monster it's impossible for him to do so. Although it's not really fair to him--he'll be penalized for this, even though he requested to have someone roll up a monster for him, and no one did. Still, better it gets done. Let me know when you have a monster. Remember that Aerryl flies on her bat, so anything without either 1) a ranged attack, 2) flight, or 3) enough height to reach the ceiling has to be rerolled. |
| TelinArtho06-27-06, 02:46 PM | Well, since I don't have a 3.5 DMG myself, I couldn't really help there either... Perhaps a suggestion - someone create the random monster charts and post them in SBLOCKs on the Rules thread... don't "copy" - just use it for reference... :) That would hopefully resolve this issue for anyone without the 3.5 core books. |
| TelinArtho06-27-06, 02:57 PM | Oh and I've gotten both sets of tactics from Zevox and Soullord - working on the fight now. About to get very bloody I would think... |

| DSugui06-27-06, 04:20 PM | Zero vs Dronnar (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=9490562&postcount=691) is done. The dice decided. The usual; check, report, etc. I might even be just on time. Double 20! Double 20! I feel lucky this week! I think I should've bought a lotto ticket... |
| Erithmu06-27-06, 05:31 PM | Aerryl vs a Mind Flayer is up. Did Aerryl get to keep her brains with her looks, or did they end up as the main course? |
| MindWandererB06-27-06, 05:40 PM | Aerryl vs a Mind Flayer is up. Did Aerryl get to keep her brains with her looks, or did they end up as the main course?I'm not sure that improvisation was really appropriate, but whatever. Entangle is a lot less useful now, anyway. This has been another one of those weeks of extreme rolls, for me, anyway. |

This has been another one of those weeks of extreme rolls, for me, anyway. My thought was that if nothing else you could keep him in one place and he wouldn't be able to move, and with D. Wolf next to him it would be the same as being able to keep good distance from him. I also figured you had a lvl1 pearl to recall it if you really needed to use it in your last fight. |
| SoulLord06-27-06, 05:50 PM | Indrithia vs Ten Vermond (http://boards.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=9492457) is complete. I would suggest that one of the players pray to the dice gods - instead of forsake them... Not to my benefit but could you please add that Ten used rage and thus is unavailable for the 3rd fight of the cicle. |

I also figured you had a lvl1 pearl to recall it if you really needed to use it in your last fight.Yeah, it wasn't an unreasonable call. I just figured don't think it fell into the category of "something unexpected." But with Haste, probably better safe than sorry. Had I known it had Haste, I likely would have specifically put that in my tactics. So no problem. |
| NiQil06-27-06, 09:39 PM | Am I correct in assuming that Valek Usher's miniquest has once again not been completed this week? Or did I miss it? @DSugui: Since you can now level normally, you may just want to scrap the miniquest and get yerself paired LOL |
| Iced06-27-06, 09:58 PM | I'm working on it now. Sorry i wasn't on last night, I have pnuemonia (not sure if that's spelled correctly) so i was pretty much out at 6:00 right after work. I'll finish up usher's MQ before pairings. |
| Traevanon06-27-06, 10:41 PM | Someone posted something a while back about the procedure for leveling up during the 3FC, but I cant find it now. I am not sure that I updated right since I'm gaining a big spell power advantage in my 3rd fight. I am Fighter1/Cleric2 Spells: [Orisons 4 / 1st 3+1] 4 spell levels. Fight 1 - used 1 spell level. Fight 2 - used 1 spell level. Leveled up. [Orisons 4 / 1st 3+1 / 2nd 2+1] 10 spell levels. Fight 3 - I have 3 2nd level spells available (just recieved and chosen) and 2 first level spells available, for a total of 8 levels. Is this right? |

| Iced06-27-06, 10:45 PM | Valek's quest is up here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=9495567&postcount=696) and finished. |
| TheMagister06-27-06, 10:46 PM | I am also interested in this question, since Mssr. Hood is a Psywar and will be leveling up (most likely) mid-cycle. Do the PP he gains upon leveling become available for use mid-cycle? I was under the impression that the fights occur all in one day. If that is true, then we (Trae and I) would not gain the new spells until we had had the opportunity to rest. However, we would gain the HP/BAB/saves and such, as these are intangibles and are "always active". Still, I'd like confirmation on my suppositions before I act on them. TM |

TM Might I recommend a glance at the Rules thread? You can add the XP gained and level up normally. |

| Hawkeye_6006-28-06, 01:34 AM | Pealos Masus (mattes) => Illior (Setzertrancer) => Hawkeye (Hawkeye 60) is up HERE The dice gods' chosen one won this fight... A couple things, although they wouldn't have changed the fight (well, the first one might have...probably would have gotten Hawkeye killed sooner, too, lol). First, when Hawkeye casts Energy Missile, he can target up to five enemies, which you didn't do, even though its stated in my tactics to do so. Second, In round 8 you made Hawkeye shoot instead of drawing his powerstone of Precog., Defensive, and manifest it like I said to do when one opponent was downed. Like I said, nothing that would have really changed the fight. And thanks for running the fight. |

Energy Missile requires ALL the targets be up to 15 feet apart from each other. According to the map, none of your targets were that close (assuming each square is 5 feet). |

The targets of Energy Missile must be no more than 15ft apart, and Pealos was 20ft distant from Illior, so manifest the power on both was not possible. And I made Hawkeye shoot instead of using the stone of Defensive Precog because that would be useless against someone using a wand of magic missiles... and if you hit, you would win the fight... ;) |
| Hawkeye_6006-28-06, 08:13 AM | Good points. Thanks. |
| Pitlords06-28-06, 11:16 AM | Valek Usher couldn't do his miniquest because he already had two at ECL 4. I let it slip this time but next time someone quests twice at the same level the miniquest won't count. So please players and questlords, make sure you check if the player has a free quest slot available. You save a lot of time that way. |

| Pitlords06-28-06, 03:52 PM | The main reason is still that some characters would then go on miniquests only and not be part of the cycle. It's even in the rules. Guild Entry quests are excempt and that's what you wanted. |
