Last week wasnt a very deadline friendly for me.

Let´s hope this week is better.

I have no idea what some of the characters want, especially related to quests. Some examples:

Tatyana Malvont (Gonbow) : Questing March 1st [Quest of Miniquest? EL? Questlord? Questgoal? No mentioning that it's a 2 player quest]

Auburn (Vathelokai) : March 1 Ready for 3 Week Quest with Tatyana - Fighting Devils and such [EL? QL? Goal? At least that's why I know that Tatyana's is a 2 player Quest]

Sdentch (TheMagister) : Ready for Quest with Morgan and Rook: Questlord - Huan [EL? Goal? How can Huan be QL and Player at the same time? Morgan doesn't quest: "Morgan MacNiven (Myrridin) : Active for March 1st" and Rook says he goes on a miniquest to join TAO "Rook Devange (Huan) : ECL 8 - Ready for 3/1 to Miniquets to join TAO". I will ignore Sdentch.]

There are similar examples each week. I need the information, preferably in advance because everything I can set up on tuesday doesn't rob me time on wednesday during pairings.

Sorry for the inconveninces I guess most of the confusion is our fault this week hope this helps to clear things up a bit

the theme of the quests is the same venture into the old TAO campus and drive out the demons & devils inhabiting there

Vandalar(soulLord)9 and Luken(Huan)10 - EL9: QL Vathelokai (Luken joining CEF)
Auburn(vathelokai)7, Tatyana(gonbow)6 - EL 7: QL Kaigan
Rook(Huan)8, Morgan(Myrridin)8, sdentch(TheMagister)8 - EL 8: QL Huan (Rook joining TAO, Sdentch finding hand of glory)
Grey Xander(gonBow)3 - EL 3: QL Waywreth MQ

Arrgh yep you are right on Huan questing for his own Character
This could be solved by Huan and Kaigan switching places if Kaigan doesn't mind questlording for 3
NiQil

03-01-06, 06:30 PM
Rook, Morgan, sdentch - EL 8: QL Huan (Rook joining TAO, Sdentch finding hand of glory)
As Cat said...Huan can't QL his own character. Rook Devange is his.
Kaigan

03-01-06, 07:03 PM
I will do the quest for three. It could be fun.... and someone might die? lol. But yeah, bring it on.

I will PM the repective players after it is finalized and ask about some RP info and I'll have to PM cat for some things that I am unclear about.

Oh, well.

Since Cat's probably going to bed...well...NOW, I guess I'm out of luck.

I'd like to compete with Sdentch in the arena if this quest doesn't pan out.

PAIRINGS DONE

Some important things to ease up my workload on wednesday. It's 2 AM in the Reich and that's mostly because of a lot of unclear headlines. I want to make sure that everyone will be paired, and paired correctly at that, but I also have to make sure I get enough sleep because my alarm clock knows no mercy. Here's how you can help me a lot:
Please write a clear and concrete description of what you want to do in your headline!
If you're inactive, leave the title line blank
Questers: Quest or Miniquest? EL? Goal? Questlord? and not to forget Ready for.
If you do a full quest and know that in advance send me a PM with the above mentioned information. Everything I can add early, I won't have to do on wednesday.
If you craft or train, add a date aswell but make sure you write FULL ACTIVITY in big letters so that I don't miss it. I just cannot sit here till half-way in the morning and get up 4 hours later but I also don't want to move the deadline so please help me a bit by doing that little thing correctly: the title line. That's all I'm asking.

As you've noticed, Dracazar the Great has posted his beta version of the coco roller. I want to ask you to use it this week and the following weeks and post any suggestions or comments on it in his CoCo Roller thread. We can create the roller that we want but Drac needs to know. And I would like to know if it's really that much slower than rolling a real dice.

I also have to remind you again that late fights are taxing for the next pairings and an annoyance for players. The deadline has been moved and tactics come in earlier. There should be enough time to at least post it late.

The Gladius Weekly is still looking for articles. So far, no one has submitted one. Use this chance and get the credit for an article!

And finally, the credits:

The ECL 8 Hunter fight Morgan => Grik => Noko is placed under "Level 9" - but that's only minor.

However, Zassl had a levelup this morning. I also placed it in the headline. He is ECL8 now. Maybe Barthleby wants anyway, but basicly, it's a mistake. :)

All the information for the quest wouldn't fit in the title line; there is more detail at the top of Tatyana's character sheet. (Such as the fact that she is also using a free activity...) I don't know the EL and the goal is simply RP. Anything we come across on the way is bonus.

Questlord: Huan (Used to be Kaigan, is getting switched apparently)
Partner: Auburn
EL: Unknown, to be set by QL.
Goal: Assist the TaO (Roleplaying)

@Malither76: Tactics for Aerryl PM'ed. Please respect my tactics this week. At least I'm not up against a CL 9 wand again, or someone willing to blow a thousand bucks in my direction (Mektos spend 1215 gp worth of wand on me last week).

@lonewolf: I see you have the MQ thread started already. Looking forward to starting it as soon as you have the intro up. Please do so soon, if possible--my available time is kind of spread out in bits and pieces, so I can't do a marathon session at the last minute. I hope you enjoy it--Sunstroke isn't exactly typical PSI material, and the quest plot you've chosen will throw him right into some moral dilemmas (he's actually visited the EYE before... you can see it in the EYE thread).

Yeah...War was originally paired with Alagar, whom he fought last week. So Cat re-paired them by splitting the Sappho/Makar fight. Might want to send a PM to Biota to make sure he is aware of the change. I am guessing he sent those before Cat made the change.

As I posted in the tavern, I figured I'd repeat it here. Morgan can't fight in the arena this week, and start a quest. I wasn't sure if the quest was starting this week, or next, so I had him set to ready. Sorry if this messes up the pairings.

Now it's my understanding that when you're trying to get an air elemental as an ally, you don't actually kill the thing, is that correct? Somehow I'm running a miniquest this week, despite not being asked. So I'm kind of trying to figure this out as I go.

You don't even fight the to be ally. You just check what CR the quest is and make an encounter based on that. Fighting the ally itself was changed long ago. You were listed as a questlord so I assigned you a miniquest.

Morgan is listed as "Active for March 1st" so he cannot go on the quest.

Question: Is the monster required to buy anything?

:P

The creatures Noko got are pretty much impossible for the Pixie to beat. I am guestimating the fight though will take until the Pixie falls asleep. I bought the standard weapon it comes with the creature plus 10 arrows of each type. As it cannot target, the pixie with a bow. It would have to drop the bow plus arrows on the ground. To hurt the pixie, note.. the only thing the pixie has to hurt the creature is the arrows on the ground. Hmm, now you see the problem with this. I guess, One of the creatures will have to hold the others gear while his buddy goes kills the pixie.

oh, well.. I think I am about to run the only combat that might result in hours passing.

Hmm, Maraxus we could run this in a seperate thread!.. Nah.. I will go ahead and run the combat between two forces with 10/Cold Iron damage resistance!
Hey, I'm penetrating it with a chance of 3/36 with 2d6. With a critical hit, I'm even doing 3d6, a 50% chance to do any damage - and probably some points.

And at some point, when my ammo runs low, I will swich to cold iron arrows, myself. ...Hm, and all this only matters, if I can't sneak attack them anyway ... Hey, they does not look grey and naked with a piercing gaze and ... undead, do they? No, I hope not. Ohoh, or is the that freaking only CR 6 monster that can cast see invisibility not once, not twice, no - at will times per day? Hey, don't tell me, this came out random for me. ;)
But then again, it does not say "Humaniod looking" but "Human-looking", so it might also be that whirling, good outsider with holy scimitar and bow in his standart monster-equipment - hey, is it that one? I can sneak him!

A seperate thread would be fun, but not really worth the time. "Unknown monster" however is no fun. The best tactic here is to tell the pitlord, how he prones the opponents strength, weaknesses and powers and then tells him to improvise upon what he finds out. - Or write a single tactic for every monster in the monster manual, that vaguely fits the description and CR-area.

However, as it is, I hope, for the monsters, Noko is just an "Unknown Player Character", too. They don't know my special powers, right? :)
Macbrea

Don just wants to go out with you. He has made a bet with Ted that you cannot shoot him down before you run out of arrows. Ted has agreed to this bet and will stay neutral in this fight until such time that you manage to take down his buddy. Be warned Neither Don or Ted will be really sneak attackable as they both pretty much permanently have 20% concealment with 3 to 5 images of them with them, all the time. So, basicly Don is going to let you shoot at him 130 times using only his powers to defend himself. He won't be shooting any arrows or lightning bolts back at you. If you run out of arrows he demands you surrender and date him for the next week. He will pay for all the expenses like dinners and such.

Ted on the other hand will make himself immune to missiles and stand around waiting for you to gun down Don. He is certian you can do it in under 60 arrows. If not, he will think about selling you some more arrows.

Well run ... something that I noticed in the ride skill Desc:
From the Ride Skill Desc:
Cover: You can react instantly to drop down and hang alongside your mount, using it as cover. You can’t attack or cast spells while using your mount as cover. If you fail your Ride check, you don’t get the cover benefit. This usage does not take an action.

This won't really affect the energy rays any as those are hits and misses by more than the cover bonus. Since he can't cover in melee and still attack, if you look down in in round 8 it would confirm my crit with my sword and KO Dort.

Personal thing: that light blue, pink, green is hard for me to read on my comp screen. Its like tilt my monitor just right and turn all the lights out ....

Hm, is it to late to have a sudden change of plans? (No, I think, through I don't like the rule that I have to do taktics for an unknown opponent, it's rule)

Let's see ... I hit his AC 100% of the time, by closing my eyes right before the shot, that's 50%, 2d6+1 (point blank shot) vs damage reduction 10 is average ... about 0.3 damage. Average 2.5 criticals deal (4d6+3-10) average 7.0162037 (;)) damage each - Hey, that's 42 damage from the normal arrows only. Then 5/10 cold iron arrows hit for 8 damage each and I'm at 82, one is down. The two seaking arrows have no miss chance even, when I fire blindly, that means sneak attack! About 5 points each! That's 92 and they only have 90 hp together!!! I get them down.

... But then, with two healings of 3d8+6 each, total 49, or 98 from both, I don't get more then one dead. I could polymorph into an Ankehg or something, but that would make much of the reflex save and AC and the invisibility go away, so they could quickly kill me, that only works for a final strike.

After a lot of math...

I surrender.

About the date: Bhah, he would only open a drink that gives me a constant blur effect and then ... hm, NO!

There's a CoCo house roule about the ride for cover:

Cover from Mount: If you use your mount for cover (Ride check Dc15), you cannot make any attacks at the exact time of doing this but you are not prevented from casting spells or attacking later in the same round. This has been clarified by Skip Williams in the Rules of the Game: All about Mounts section of the WotC homepage. You have to be aware of the attack and not flatfooted.

What effectively means that you cannot use your mount for cover if: a) it's an AoO or b) if someone readied an attack to interrupt you from doing something.

In this case, Dordleton can use his mount for cover and attack in the same round.

And about the colors thing, you only have to select the text you want to read, it will be white in black background... It's what I do when I want to read those texts in silver, light blue, pink...

@MindwandererB (and Erithmu)
I don't see anything at the moment, in a cursory read through. AFAICT it would take a lot of mistakes to overturn such a large damage/HP differential, and I doubt there will be that many.
Not to mention the quality of both of our rolls, overall. Bonuses will only help you so much when you're rolling 1's and 4's.

I think if I were Erithmu, I'd go for Obscuring Mist + Blind Fight and hope for the best in melee. The only other option is to gain some sort of movement advantage and pepper them with arrows. Tanglefoots are costly but might be one option.

MindwandererB: I (really) appreciate you running a long fight with a lot of attack rolls with multiple modifiers and trying to spice it up with accompanying text.
I also appreciate your comments. I am very proud of Evaine, but in all modesty would like to say I'd never cracked open the XPH before this, and she was my attempt to learn the Psionics rules. I suppose she's munchkined, but at the time I just did my best sort of groping in the dark.
If it seemed like she had a plan all along, it was an illusion; I can assure you she didn't. I'm still not sure what to spend my money on, although I definitely need a magic weapon.
I'm thinking of going for +1 Vicious, although I've figured out in CoCo, your best bet might be a +1 Seeking missile weapon, if you can afford it...

I'm definitely open to suggestions.

Btw, I wonder why I said, I surrender with Noko. I have just calculated, that with the tactic "Evade them at all cost, all the time, Attack only to avoid delay penalty, it should have taken about 2200 rounds untill I ran out of arrows. Then with readied actions vs. Melee attacks, they could have killed me in about 3000 rounds. That would totally have been a tie, because Macbrea had never run a fight of 8 hours 40 to kill me. :D
Macbrea

03-03-06, 08:55 AM
Actually, they can get you in alot less time. It just requires them play a puzzle game.

Both of them can put up 60ft long, 30 foot high wind walls at will in which Noko cannot pass through. While being boring they can keep sectioning off the arena until they corner you down to a space 5ft x 5ft x 25ft. At that point one could change to a whirlwind and move in and try and grapple you. The other one would strike his friend with a lightning bolt. My estimate of time would still make that about 200 hours. And an aweful lot of mapping.

Nothing jumped out at me as tactically wrong on my end...and nothing jumped out as a serious mechanical error, though I only skimmed for that. I'll wait to see what Drac has to say first. The battle was really decided by me making that DC 19 saving throw vs blindness...had that landed, I was done.

The only mistake I found was in Round8:

Kaz creeps up on Krayko (listen irrelevant) and returns to visibility as he grabs his foe, holding the surprised little Kobold tight (Touch [20!]+6=26 vs AC15).

You can deal damage in the first round of a grapple with squeezing, you just need to win the grapple-check. If you scored a critical, this damage is doubled.

But this wouldn't change the result of the fight. No need to fix.

Regarding my usage of expeditures: Never underestimate one of Karl's characters, regardless their record.

EDIT: @Kaigan: Got the tactic.

No complaints on my end. I didn't pay enough attention to the potion of Invisibility. Oh well. I just need to get enough money together for a Ring of Freedom of Movement (sadly that will take tons of money) so Krayko can stop getting grappled to death. Besides my PC finally moved up to level 4 after 9 straight losses. I got Spider Climb as one of his known spells now and at least he can avoid a lot of grapplers for awhile. ;) Thanks again, for the advice, but I've gone down the expendable road before and it isn't worth it imo.

Samuel vs a medium human-looking guy is up (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=8609560#post8609560)

A few things:

If the cleric that rebuked me is within 10ft, the awe effect should end, like the turning effect does, doesnt it? And the 5ft step doesnt help him since he still has only 10ft reach and thus has to be within 10ft to attack me. If yes, that would of course change the fight completely.

If not:
Corrupting gaze is passive, so as long he can see me, he has to do a save every round against it. With 18 rounds that should statistically bring him down.

I will look at this closer, but these two things should be enough to turn the fight completely.
Caterane

03-03-06, 08:07 PM
I think that the 5ft rule only applies to turning, not rebuking. If a turned creature cannot flee, it cowers. A rebuked creature cowers right away. If not, then the cleric 5ft steps before the rebuke attempt, of course.

Yes, I forgot the gaze attack being passive. He has blindfight though so he can reroll. I will only roll the rounds where he hit. Tomorow.

Everything looks painfully correct to me. I had hoped to find something to make this 3rd ray of enfeeblement hit, too. Like the fact that the medium encumbrance reduced his max dex to +3, so his AC dropped by one. Or that he was fatigued, reducing his dex by 2 and his AC by 1 ... bus sadly by the same one. And for a heavy encumbrance he has exacly 2 lb to little stuff, so it's simply only that one point. - Hey, if I ever again see someone writing dodge is not worth it, I show him this. ;)

Seriously it was a good fight, the perfect ray of enfeeblement however used up my luck. :)

Wow a 7th level Half-Fiend Cleric. That's a realy tough encounter for a ghost. As a character it would be ECL11. Realy tough match up for an ECL9 character to beat. Also it appears that the creature was based on a modified verion of the elite ability array. That should boost the CR of the monster by an additional +1, so this is realy a CR10 monster and rewards should be appropreat for that CR of an encounter.

BTW the PSI earns 10% on Samuel's gp earnings not his xp. So the tax will be a bit more than is mentioned in the fight.

first its a 10ft rule and I would disagree. But the rules are not very clear on this, so its your decision as a GM how to handle it.

Luck was the main factor in this one. I hope there isn't many mistakes...

the only thing that seems odd is this

Round 4
Zassl draws the mace with his buckler hand while moves closer to Grik [Move] and casts Ray of Enfeeblement, shooting at the orc [Stan] [20+9=29 vs AC 20 hit, Str penalty 6+3=9] hitting him right in the chest and sapping his energies

it seems to me that a roll to confirm the critical hit is needed if it suceeds then it would be double the str penalty

Critical Hits

When you make an attack roll and get a natural 20 (the d20 shows 20), you hit regardless of your target’s Armor Class, and you have scored a threat. The hit might be a critical hit (or "crit"). To find out if it’s a critical hit, you immediately make a critical roll—another attack roll with all the same modifiers as the attack roll you just made. If the critical roll also results in a hit against the target’s AC, your original hit is a critical hit. (The critical roll just needs to hit to give you a crit. It doesn’t need to come up 20 again.) If the critical roll is a miss, then your hit is just a regular hit.

A critical hit means that you roll your damage more than once, with all your usual bonuses, and add the rolls together. Unless otherwise specified, the threat range for a critical hit on an attack roll is 20, and the multiplier is ×2.

Exception: Extra damage over and above a weapon’s normal damage is not multiplied when you score a critical hit.

Increased Threat Range

Sometimes your threat range is greater than 20. That is, you can score a threat on a lower number. In such cases, a roll of lower than 20 is not an automatic hit. Any attack roll that doesn’t result in a hit is not a threat.
Increased Critical Multiplier

Some weapons deal better than double damage on a critical hit.
Spells and Critical Hits

A spell that requires an attack roll can score a critical hit. A spell attack that requires no attack roll cannot score a critical hit.

the only thing that seems odd is this

Round 4
Zassl draws the mace with his buckler hand while moves closer to Grik [Move] and casts Ray of Enfeeblement, shooting at the orc [Stan] [20+9=29 vs AC 20 hit, Str penalty 6+3=9] hitting him right in the chest and sapping his energies

it seems to me that a roll to confirm the critical hit is needed if it suceeds then it would be double the str penaltyStrength damage would be doubled. A strength penalty is not.

Logan (Snommelp) vs. Jonathon (Abyssal Stalker) (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8609014&postcount=325) is up. No suprises.

Drac, I think the new online roller is awesome, so take the following with that in mind:

Using the roller means each roll takes about five times longer. Unless it is mandatory, I don't think I'll be using it.

The rewards for this fight need to be adjusted to account for Jonathon's mount.

Zassl has an ally, so the rewards need to be fixed to reflect that.

Forgot about that. It's edited now, please check the values...

it seems to me that a roll to confirm the critical hit is needed if it suceeds then it would be double the str penalty

Yeah, I though about that for a time, and that's the conclusion I got: see that the critical hit doubles damage:

A critical hit means that you roll your damage more than once

But the Ray of Enfeeblement gives the target a STR penalty, not damage:

The subject takes a penalty to Strength equal to 1d6+1 per two caster levels

Thus, not doubled in a critical hit.

That's how I see these rules. If I am wrong about this, it would be nice if some elder give a word, for that can change a lot the outcome of the battle...

The Samuel vs Fiend fight has been fixed. I rolled the gaze attacks and one came through. The cleric closed his eyes after that and I rolled concealment which he passed on the critical hits.

@Sauro: He had the regular 25 pt-buy that class NPCs (cohorts, mercenaries, etc) in the coco have.

On the 10ft thing, here's the SRD quote: If you approach within 10 feet of them, however, they overcome being turned and act normally. (You can stand within 10 feet without breaking the turning effect—you just can’t approach them.) You can attack them with ranged attacks (from at least 10 feet away), and others can attack them in any fashion, without breaking the turning effect. The unclear part comes from 'within'. Is 'within' less than 10ft or does it include 10ft? This would normally be subject to debates without solution were it not for the redded part that you can attack from 10ft away. From clearly includes 10ft and it allows attacks from that range. It says ranged but the designers just didn't take reach weapons into consideration.

If melee wouldn't be possible, Ighrathor (no ranged weapon) wouldn't stand jsut there and pull his nose but would use his spiritual weapons as first action (as a force effect it ignores incorporality) and dispel the buffs sooner upon seeing his weapons fail to hit. That would shorten the fight even (Rnd 14/15).

The Samuel vs Fiend fight has been fixed.

I accept the fight as it stands.

Although for future reference I´d like to know how much information about the gladiator the monster should have. In this case for example the halffiend cleric buffed with protection from chaos, which is only worth it if he knows that Samuel
- is chaotic or
- has Malevolence.

Should a monster have such informations if the gladiator doesnt have similar information about it?

Although it doesn't affect the fight much, this level 7 half-fiend cleric (I am assuming he is from human stock) has too many feats. he should have 3 for the levels 1, 3 and 6 and another for human (total 4) and he has 6.

@Sauro: He had the regular 25 pt-buy that class NPCs (cohorts, mercenaries, etc) in the coco have.

That is true and appropreat that NPCs should have the elite spread, but it is still the elite stat spread. The elite stat spread has 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8 and that is equivalent to a 25 point buy. The normal stat spread is 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8 and that is equivalent to a 15 point buy. Cohorts and Mercenaries are allowed to use the elite stat spread because they are judged on there ECL not there CR. ECL is always higher than the CR of the creatures, and only creatures with ECL entries are allowed to be cohorts or PC's. Since this is a monster fight and the CR of the monster is what's important not the ECL of the creature (as is the case with mercenaries and cohorts) the CR of this "Monster" should be calculated using the CR rules. Since this creature is a human with 7 class levels (CR7) and the half-fiend template (+2CR) and a modified elite stat spread (+1CR) this is a CR10 encounter. If the ECL rules were used to calculate the league of this opponent it would be ECL11, and in that case the stats of the creature are not a factor. By CoCo standards this would be a kind of weak opponent at ECL11 because of the decreased wealth and 25 point buy.

I've made the mistake myself in the past, and just caught myself almost making it again today. I'm not saying that you need to change the fight, just give Samuel his due for loosing a CR10 fight instead of a CR9 one.

Buba crit Grik with an AXE, right? that's x3 damage (won't change anything, but just thought I should say something).

If you look in the improving monster rules you will find that any monster that has class levels is assumed to have the elite array and the CR is included in the class levels. So the fight is still a ECL 9 vs a CR 9

I thought that any creature with PC class levels had to be built with the elite array.

From the SRD:

ADVANCED MONSTER CHALLENGE RATING
When adding class levels to a creature with 1 or less HD, you advance the creature like a character. Otherwise, use the following guidelines.

ADDING CLASS LEVELS
If you are advancing a monster by adding player character class levels, decide if the class levels directly improve the monster’s existing capabilities.
When adding class levels to a creature, you should give it typical ability scores appropriate for that class. Most creatures are built using the standard array of ability scores: 11, 11, 11, 10, 10, 10, adjusted by racial modifiers. If you give a creature a PC class use the elite array of ability scores before racial adjustments: 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8. Creatures with NPC classes use the nonelite array of 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8. T

As for the plan B comment, once he gets enough money to spare I'll probably have Aldyrr buy a wand of magic missiles, but until then hes reliant on beating his foes with his mace if his spells fail him. Oh well - one way or another, one more match ought to get him enough money.

Some comments about the team fight.

1) Does Faerie fire negate mirror images(figments)? In the spell description it says it negates concealment effects like invisiblity, blur, displacement (all glamors). Based on the answer to that question, Leif may not have been hit by some of Ajora's arrows or Gundir's produce flame shot.

2) Staggered still means Leif can do move actions (no crashing in round 8 :) ) His options are bleak at this point though. If you proceed in the fight I will let you use his tactics as written and go from there. (I know what I would do but I don't believe in giving tactics after the fight).

3) Please add guild taxes earned -- Shaz and Leif earn CEF 11% and Ajora earns PSI 9(?)%

Leif & Shaz vs. Ajora & Gundir is up.

Like most multiplayer fights, this one is rather complicated and I wouldnt be suprised if there are some problems.

I have a big issue with the fight:

It is clearly stated that Shaz comes with his full armor:

The AC is (as noted in tactic):
AC normal 19 ...... [+1 Dex, +8 Armor, +0 Shield]
AC touch 15 ....... [+1 Dex, +4 Elude, No Shield]
AC flatfooted 18 .. [No Dex, +8 Armor, +0 Shield]

with Force Screen this is the AC (+2 with Shield of Faith)
AC normal 23 ...... [+1 Dex, +8 Armor, +4 Shield]
AC touch 15 ....... [+1 Dex, +4 Elude, No Shield]
AC flatfooted 22 .. [No Dex, +8 Armor, +4 Shield]

This means that:
@Round 1
Ajora hits AC 16 and 12, not 18, the super shot should not hit!

@Round 2
Ajora hits AC 18 and 16, not 23, no shot hit!

@Round 3
Ajora hits AC 26 and 21, only one hits

and so on...

I appreciate very much your pitlording but please dont say: "I think that the result will not be changed". Sometimes I noticed (and I'm not saying that this is your case) that pitlord edit the fight and then he is very reluctant to change the result, this is unfair.

Shaz AC should be 29 (19+4ForceShield+6TotalDefense) and I think this will give the time to Leif to do something.

I promise the result will not change. Ajora would not shoot at anyone but Leif as soon as possible, except for when Essence gets annoying. Shaz would be tied up with multiple enemies, all the while Leif, who was assumed to be more of a threat, will be dead.

Also, Protection From XXX spells only protect against summons of the opposed alignment. Hippogriffs are neutral, and therefore immune to the effect. Leif would get ravaged by the summons, which was the real reason for summoning them. Shaz, at the very least, will be kept in check by Idrai(his entire purpose in this battle), and it is very likely Leif will die before killing Ajora as he will be assaulted by arrows and Hippogriffs.

Actually, protection from XXX does not protect against neutral summons. It protects against all summons. This is the description:
Third, the spell prevents bodily contact by summoned creatures. This causes the natural weapon attacks of such creatures to fail and the creatures to recoil if such attacks require touching the warded creature. Good summoned creatures are immune to this effect. The protection against contact by summoned creatures ends if the warded creature makes an attack against or tries to force the barrier against the blocked creature. Spell resistance can allow a creature to overcome this protection and touch the warded creature.

As you can see, it says taht only good summoned creatures are immune. But the thing is that my summons will last 12 rounds with my rod of extend. Your spell lasts 10 rounds, but then you can't take total defense for ten rounds becuase of the delay. You can actively interact, but i think using the total defense option to wait out a spell is breaking the 10 round rule.... but I could be wrong.

If your summons has spell resistance (like any of the celestial or fiendish creatures from Sum.Mon. series; but not Sum.Swrm or Sum.Nat.Ally) then it gets to make a SR check against the Prot.Align spell. Basicly the spell gets a caster lv. check (at CL1 if it's a potion, or the actual casters check) to fend off the creature with SR. There is only one check per casting/drinking of the Prot.Alignment.

I didn't expect to double-move while manifesting. With my bad concentration check even a lvl 1 power has a 50% chance to fail and that's surely not a risk worth taking, especially since a double move is bad for me on top of that. A double-move towards the open leaves me vulnerable to a run - something I wanted to avoid at all costs. And of course, there's also the possibilty to expend my focus on the concentration check. In any case, the vigor should have been up. Even if not, a second vigor would have been more appropriate.

Whatever, let the fight stand as it is. Costs me 150 extra, so what. Thanks for running it, Vath :)

Nope. You still have it wrong. Read Protection From Chaos, Good or Law. Chaos specifically protects from chaotic summons, good from good ones, and Law from lawful ones. It would be unfair for evil to protect against all but good.

Uh... All pros protect against all summons except the one alignment they are created by.

They don't give AC/etc bonus against everything, but they do keep summoned creatures from touching you.

this from protection from evil;
In this particular case Kaigan is correct neutral summons are repeled by protection from good, evil in the good evil axis and from prootection from law, chaos in the lawful/chaos axis.

Actually, you're all wrong. P.Evil ward away nongood creatures, but the others only ward against the creatures of their speciic alignment. Unfair? Yes. But that's the way it's written.

...the spell prevents bodily contact by summoned creatures...Good summoned creatures are immune to this effect.
...good summoned creatures cannot touch the subject.

True; only protection from evil wards of neutral creatures according to the descripton in the srd.

Just for the record:

Free Action: to manifest mindblade,
Move action: to charge pychic strike
Move Action: to stand up
Standard Action: to throw it for 2d8+1 damage
Free Action: To drop prone (this could be argued to the ground as your gravity didn't change)

Which is precisely why she only used psychic strike on her first attack this week, if you note her tactics. ;)

Question: Can you drink potions when grappled?
Macbrea

03-06-06, 05:13 PM
Using a potion or oil provokes attacks of opportunity. A successful attack (including grappling attacks) against the character forces a Concentration check (as for casting a spell). If the character fails this check, she cannot drink the potion.

Yup, you can drink potions while grappled. You just need to make the concentration check.

Yes, but you cannot draw the potion while grappled, so you can only drink a potion while grappled if you have it in your hand already.

Barthleby vs Kracknol is finished.
Played by the book mostly. So technicially I have little to gripe about. However...

Kracknol does have his invisibility PSI like ability and I ask that he go invisible when attacked. Instead he kept on doing his own attacks that could only hit on a 20. I intended for Kracknol to only take damage from a single attack at the most then go invisible and and hunt down his opponent using the invisibility bonuses on his attacks. This has two nice effects. First he can be sure to be attacking his opponent without concealment and with the best chances to hit, second instead of having two invisible characters trying to track each other down (pain in the ass to pitlord) he can draw his opponent out rapidly. It would have been prudent for him to use his invisibility when he was getting slaughtered by Magic Missiles so he could setup a good charge flying attack while invisible. This is in the spirit and letter of my tactics. He's not a total idiot (14 Int 14 Wis) when he's been attacked twice, then he should be able to deduce that he's going to be attacked again. When he's hit by two offensive spells, he can expect that the spell caster is done buffing and next one is going to be another offensive spell. When he attacks and all his swings are rebuffed by his opponents magical protections, he can reason that he's going to have trouble hitting and he should use his own abilities to improve his chance to hit. Atleast an invisible attack by kracknol (the kind of thing asked for in his tactics and used in all his other fights) would have had a 30-40% chance to connect instead of a 5% chance.

Also every time Bartleby moves out of melee, he grants AoO's that are not in the fight. He's not tumbling, and you cannot take a 5' step if you are performing any other movement in that round. Also he's not using withdraw actions. There should be at least 7 AoO's in the fight that aren't in there now.

Next I noticed that you say Kracknol cannot charge Barthleby. I don't understand this at all. Kracknol has fly and superior movement (and possibly invisibility). He also has speed of thought and Burst at his disposal for a total of 160' of movement in a single round. With that kind of movement he can easily fly around a corner or out of range and turn around. Then Barthleby must come after him and into a position where Kracknol can charge. You should be equally savy with the tactical flying for Kracknol as with Barthleby.

Here are the SRD quotes about Dive and Charge:
A creature that flies can make dive attacks. A dive attack works just like a charge, but the diving creature must move a minimum of 30 feet and descend at least 10 feet.

Movement During a Charge: You must move before your attack, not after. You must move at least 10 feet (2 squares) and may move up to double your speed directly toward the designated opponent.
You must have a clear path toward the opponent, and nothing can hinder your movement (such as difficult terrain or obstacles). Here’s what it means to have a clear path. First, you must move to the closest space from which you can attack the opponent. (If this space is occupied or otherwise blocked, you can’t charge.) Second, if any line from your starting space to the ending space passes through a square that blocks movement, slows movement, or contains a creature (even an ally), you can’t charge. (Helpless creatures don’t stop a charge.)
If you don’t have line of sight to the opponent at the start of your turn, you can’t charge that opponent.
You can’t take a 5-foot step in the same round as a charge.
If you are able to take only a standard action or a move action on your turn, you can still charge, but you are only allowed to move up to your speed (instead of up to double your speed). You can’t use this option unless you are restricted to taking only a standard action or move action on your turn.
Nothing in there tells me that at every turn Kracknol would not be able to charge his opponent.

I may be wrong, but I was under the impression that if you are the target of a spiritual weapon and move away from a spiritual weapon, they don't follow you around. The caster must use a move action to redirect the weapon to your new location.

Those AoO's realy need to go in there, but I'd also like to see Kracknol use his signiture Invisibile charge tactics as well.

If it were me, I would go a step further and make a uniform rule that *all expendables are limited to your ECL. I don't see how we are doing any good if we limit scrolls to ECL, but allows wands of the same power two levels higher.

I am fine with that also. I wanted to prove that wands could become overpowering if allowed to go unchecked and that has become very obvious with Mektos at this point. As his fight this week wasn't even remotely fair to the other player. There isn't much he could do to outpower the wand.

In which rounds there should be AoO?
I can see no 5 footsteps and normal movement together in one round. From round 11 on there are only five footsteps and no normal movement. Of course, you can draw a scroll as a move-action and then do a five-foot-step or vice versa.

Regarding your diving-charge, you cannot dive to someone who's at the ceiling.
Pittbull

03-07-06, 03:13 AM
Ah, thank you Lonewolf! I really didn't see this, sorry! But this doesn't change anything, because Barthleby has in his contingencies, to use see invisible when Kracknol goes invisible, so the action after the duergar goes invisible would be to cast the spell. This makes the fight only a little bit more expensive.

Edit: Let's wait what Cat has to say, I generally don't like after-fight-discussion, regardless if I lose or win.

@Stormwind:

Just for the record:

Free Action: to manifest mindblade,
Move action: to charge pychic strike
Move Action: to stand up
Standard Action: to throw it for 2d8+1 damage
Free Action: To drop prone (this could be argued to the ground as your gravity didn't change)
As Zevox already stated, I am aware that it was a choice between the two move actions and I believe that this was evident in my tactics.

Regarding the dropping prone. If you wish to argue using gravity then consider that I could argue to invert standing up and dropping prone. In particular I could argue that since I would have gravity (since you are arguing with gravity) then standing up from prone (on the ceiling) should be a free action and dropping prone (on the ceiling) should be a move action. Thus not actually changing anything unless of course you wish to argue that you cannot go prone on the ceiling which is a entire new arguement.
Regardless of how we would argue, I believe that according to both RAW, and RAI it is correct as is.

Well this is the relevant part:
If his opponent is not readily visible, Krakcnol will travel around using move actions to search and ready an action each turn to go invisible if he is being attacked.

That was specificially written to counter invisibility and allow kracknol to be invisible while his opponent is not. Cat mentiones that Since kracknol has no ranks in spellcraft he cannot detect that he is being targeted by a spell before it goes off. I'm fine with that. I think that at some point kracknol should figure out that he's been targeted with a spell and his readied action should go off afterward. Much like the way that readied actions against invisible melee attacks are resolved.

You got the Shillelagh damage wrong, which is easy to explain as Nexa's sheet is wrong. It should be 2d6+5 not 2d6 +7. IT would give Shakari an extra round to go for 2 criticals hits to drop Nexa.

When using weapons as part of a flurry of blows, a monk applies her Strength bonus (not Str bonus × 1½ or ×½) to her damage rolls for all successful attacks, whether she wields a weapon in one or both hands.

Nope, it's right on the sheet (at least the relevant part) and in the battle. Nexa is wielding the staff as a two handed weapon. This is allowed, and it's what she's doing. The damage is +1.5 times strength +1enhancement. So with the +4 strength bonus she's causing (+4)*1.5+1=7. Nexa is not using a flurry of blows, if she was you'd be correct.

As I stated yesterday in the FotW thread, I sent a PM to Pitlords with a concern about magical items with charges...namely wands/dorjes and staffs/psicrowns. Below is the conversation:

Some of us have expressed a concern with the way we have our expendables set up. Here is how they are now:

Scrolls and Powerstones: The Caster level or Manifester level (CL/ML) of these items are restricted to your ECL. You may buy higher CL/ML scrolls and powerstones at the Blackmarket.

Tattoos and Potions: These items are restricted to the minimum CL/ML. In case of potions only those listed in the DMG are available, and if a potion is specifically listed having a higher CL then it can be purchased as well. You may buy potions and oils not listed in the DMG at the Blackmarket. Tattoos are always minimum ML.

Other Magic Items: You may only buy magic items specifically listed in the Dungeon Masters Guide or the Psionic Handbook. See the Gladius Market above for more information. You may customize magic items in the Blackmarket.

In essence, scrolls/powerstones and potions/tattoos are limited to a level up to your ECL. However wands/dorjes and staffs/psicrowns are not. I don't really see how we are doing any good if we are limiting scrolls of magic missile to your ECL, but allowing the purchase of a wand of magic missile at any ECL listed. Wands and dorjes are quickly becoming overpowered in the way that scrolls and powerstones used to. Macbrea's character Mektos is a good example of this.

What I would propose is a change to the expendable rules that would include wands/dorjes and staffs/psicrowns to also fall under the rule that you can only buy them at a level up to your ECL. As more and more characters get to a level where they can start crafting wands if they choose, this will get to be a bigger and bigger problem. I think we should look at curtailing it now, rather than later. The ECL of the wand, dorje, staff or psicrown is already listed in its item description, so this is easy to regulate...it would just be a matter of changing the Rules thread to include them under the ECL restriction.

That is a good idea, NiQil. I'd even go so far as to say that items with multiple charges cost 5° per CL above your ECL. There's clearly a difference in buying a CL 9 Scroll of MM or a CL 9 Wand of MM and it should be reflected in the credit cost. Those with such items can either pay the credits or refund them at full price (minus charges used).

You can go ahead and make the annoucnement. I have some things to do first.

In short, wands, dorjes, staffs, psicrowns and anything else with charges will now also be limited to a caster level equal to your ECL. This will be effective tomorrow. This means that all caster/manifester levels of expendables are now limited to your ECL. As Cat stated, those that currently possess these items will either need to pony up the credit costs as mentioned above, or they can refund the items at full market price minus the value of the charges used.

As an example, a CL 5 wand of magic missile costs 3750 with a full 50 charges. If 10 of those charges had been used, and the ECL 3 character possessing this wand wants to refund it, he would receive (3750 gp / 50 = 75 gp/charge) x 40 charges remaining = 3000 gp back as a refund. The formula for refunding is then (market value / 50 = cost of each charge) x number of charges remaining = total value received as refund.

Message cross-posted in the Tavern and FotW threads.

I added a few additional rounds in the Leif & Shaz vs. Ajora & Gundir fight.

The only change is that its a bit more expensive to Leif and Gundir.

Thanks for the changes, looks good. Yay, finally Gundir's first lost!

I understand now why a charge couldn't be setup. No distance to drop for a charge attempt. Alright

I've still heard no counter to all my questions about Kracknol's fight. Specificially round 10 where kracknol has an action readied to trigger if he is attacked. Bartelby targets Kracknol with a spell. Obviously Kracknol doesn't have spellcraft and he cannot know if the spell being cast is an offensive one, but after his buffs go down he knows he's been attacked. That should rigger the readied action.

I think that this is very simular to when any person readies an action against being attacked by an invisible opponent. The readied action should still trigger, just at the moment that an attack is realized to have happened, ie after it has happened. So initiative is not reset, but Kracknol should use his readied action just after getting hit by the dispell.

Also Bartelby doesn't move at all in round 16 nor does he move in rounds 18 or 19. In all those cases there should be AoO's for Kracknol or moves for Bartlby.

The invisibility thing is critical and fight changing. If Kracknol's readied action triggers as I think it should have, then Kracknol's first attack attempt hits. The fight may be over quickly and with far less expense to everyone involved.

But if Kracknol readies he is not able to doublemove in round 10, therefor the distance is too big for an attack. In my tactic I wrote, Barthleby should cast disple magic from max distance which is 160ft, so there is no way for an attack in the next round. If Kracknol becomes invisible, it triggers Barthleby's see invisible contingency, so the modifiers won't change and the attack doesn't hit.

Another point is: Cat could have used Barhleby's perfect fly abillity to create more distance between Kracknol and Barthleby in the rounds before, since his downspeed is double and up-speed counts normal.

If Cat adds the five foot-steps the problem is solved, Barthleby's tactics state clear that he should avoid AoOs.

Rewards look wrong, though. XP: 1500-8.333% is 1375, not 1380; GP: 1600-8.333% is 1466, not 1728. I'll update my sheet using these values--and I used a scroll of Delay Poison, please note it.

Kracknol can fly 160' in a single round with burst and Speed of Thought even if it would have made a difference. There is little chance that Barthleby could get that far away with his crappy move silently and three listeners. Besides Barthleby was already up against the delay limit. You had to act at that time. If Barthleby stops in the dispell onslaught to cast see invisibility, then Kracknol is still enlarged at the time that he is in base contact with Barthleby. Then Barthleby will be unable to get out of melee range or cast another dispell without provoking AoO's. Every time Barthleby draws a scroll or casts a spell he'll provoke an AoO. There would be atleast 7 of those in the battle if the scroll is lost.

And if you had used the double drop speed, this serves you not at all. Only the motion in the downward direction is doubled. Not the entire length of the move. If you double move you cannot move 5' down and horizontally 160'. You instead move down 10' at the cost of only 5' movement and you move horizontally the remaining 75' of your full movement speed. This will only make it possible for Kracknol to dive attack you.

You can avoid an AoO, if you cast defensively, so the dispel is still possible.
Another way would be: If Cat follows Barth's max distance-tactic, he could make a five footstep back, after the scroll of see invisible is drawn and casted. Then the distance is 165ft and a new dispel magic can be cast without provoking an AoO.

Sorry, I'm tired on discussing this, I leave the discission on Cat and accept any outcome.

It seems Korinel’s luck finally run out, this should have been an easy win.

I don’t see any obvious mistake, except maybe at the very end. After round 41 Dronnar second Force Screen goes off, and his AC drops from 27 (19+cover+FS) to just 23. For the next 20 (or so) arrows Korinel will hit him with a mere 14, not an 18.

Checking Invisible caster I see (but I admit I can’t really follow the rolls well!) many more hits than you have in the battle report (these are the last 20 arrows listed):

Possible IMHO warants a re-examination.

Not to mention that all of the psicrystal's listen checks are ommited and any of them could easily help kracknol get into a closer range early in the fight. The crystal can communitace telepathicially with Kracknol, so if it hears Barthleby then it should easily be able to comunicate Barthleby's position to Kracknol. Realy Barthleby may never have been able to get the kind of distance he had to cast the first dispell magic.

Looks fine, Telveran didn't get the benefit of his DR but I don't see how that will change the fight result. He might last another round. No big deal. I didn't expect to have a chance at winning this fight unless Telveran could drink his enlarge potion.

Shakari vs Nexa is finally finished. There were several calls on grey rules areas to make and it came down to the wire realy. I hope neither players have problems with the fight, because unless they are exceptionally easy to fix I won't have the time to fix it.

Hi Sauro, thanks for running it! I have been wanting Nexa to fight since Feb. 8, and now a match finally happened.

I have some feedback below. This does not mean that I automatically request changes, my comments are also meant to educate myself (and possible others) on rules issues.

When I read Luni's tactics, I thought Shakari would have a fair chance. My own tactics for Nexa were a bit hasty and not terribly original (the new deadline is causing me trouble). It all worked out pretty well, since the -4 penalty on ranged attack rolls Shakari got when entangled was pretty hefty. And I certainly didn't mind Nexa getting entangled too when in melee, I somewhat expected that, just figured Nexa's odds would be a lot better in melee, and with Shakari unable to run.

Round 10: Dismissing a spell is a standard action, so Shakari cannot also shoot her bow (and certainly not a full attack)

Round 11: shouldn't Duskseeker get +1 from higher ground (since apparently he was still at 10 ft. altitude), and possibly hit instead of miss.

Round 11: It makes more sense for Shakari to attack instead of risking those AoO's, I am fine with your improvisation.

Round 11: Fine call with deciding where Nexa wants to fall. In general I let the rider decide where to fall (and dismount) if the mount dies, but if someone uses trip to get somebody of their mounts, I let the tripper decide.

Again a somewhat lucky win for Nexa.

For future reference, I think that most people here would prefere if fights that have been held over from last week should be the top priority for any pitlord.

RL can always get in the way, but its much better if 2 different fights get held over 1 week each than 1 fight beeing held over for 2 weeks.

It's almost done. And I don't appreciate this kind of scolding.

For me RL is always more important than these boards especially when it concerns family and/or school.

I wasn't even expecting to be the one to run it, but I am, and have, so I will post it when I am done with work. But please, don't tell me about priorities, thank you.

Edit: And I don't think you have room to complain. My character Eiletha was held over for 4 weeks, and did I rush my pitlords about priorities, no. Sorry if I sound upset, and rash, but I was called in for work early, hence my reason for not posting the fight earlier, and I have a crappy evening. But it will be up.

Edit2: Okay, calmer now... haha. But you are right lonewolf, I should have done it first, and I think one of the reasons why I didn't is becuase I dislike the sneaking around. But that's no excuse. Anyways, as I said the fight will be up in a couple of hours, and if you have concerns post it. I'll be up all night, so I'll fix it before tomorrow.

Question: A wizard is invisible but deafened. He tries to cast a spell, but the spell has a verbal component, and if someone is deafened they have a 20% chance to miscast that spell. He fails the check. Does he become visible? or since the attack spell technically didn't go off, does he remain invisible.

By my understanding of what breaks invisibility, as soon as he started trying to cast that spell, the invisibility would break. Whether or not the spell is successful or not has no bearing on the invisibility. It's the attempt that is important. If this spell is one that would normally break invisibility, then as soon as the spell is begun, the condition for breaking invisibility would be met, and the invisibility would fall as soon as that action is completed, successful or not.

Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

If invisibility is broken as soon as the action is begun, then someone who readies an attack on sight would go before the invisible character's attack. Invisible spellcasters could get disrupted, invisible chargers could get tripped or grappled, etc. The text for invisibility says "attacks" not "tries to attack" or "begins to attack," so I would think that the action has to be completed for invisibility to be broken.

Reread what I stated. I stated that the invisibility would drop as soon as the action is completed, regardless of the success or failure of that action. If the spell is miscast, then it is a failed action, but the invisibility would not drop until the end of the action that caused the spell to be miscast. If there were someone readying vs this invisibile wizard, their action would still trigger after the action used to miscast the spell had occurred. The result of the action has no bearing on whether it breaks invisibility...it is the action itself that determines this. So as soon as the action to cast that spell is completed, regardless of whether the spell is successful or not, the invisibility would drop.

LoL. I finished the fight, before work, and when I got to work, I found a potential problem.

@Anyone that could help:
Featylec is hidden, readying to throw Thunderstone upon LOS.
Finrod is invisible, and has silent image up, 5ft behind him.

Finrod moves into LOS with his image, triggering Featylec's readied action. He fails the will save to disbelieve the image, and throws the stone there, but Finrod is still in the radius of the Thunderstone and fails his Fort Save, and is deafened, but still invisible.

My question now is, that Finrod can see Featylec and wanted to cast blindness, but he fails the 20% miscast due to being deafened. Does he become visible, or does he stay invisible. Thanks.

Edit: So I guess from what NiQil is saying is that invisiblity does drop, and he becomes visible?

Played by the book mostly. So technicially I have little to gripe about. However...

Kracknol does have his invisibility PSI like ability and I ask that he go invisible when attacked. Instead he kept on doing his own attacks that could only hit on a 20. [hm, that's metagaming but he knew Bart was difficult to hit] I intended for Kracknol to only take damage from a single attack at the most then go invisible and and hunt down his opponent using the invisibility bonuses on his attacks. [that's not mentioned in your tactic which basically stops after your first attack] This has two nice effects. First he can be sure to be attacking his opponent without concealment [Why's that? When you're invisible, the other one still has concealment because he's also invisible] and with the best chances to hit [maybe but you have to write that in your tactic], second instead of having two invisible characters trying to track each other down (pain in the ass to pitlord) he can draw his opponent out rapidly [I have no idea how and it's not my job to improvise before the battle even began]. It would have been prudent for him to use his invisibility when he was getting slaughtered by Magic Missiles so he could setup a good charge flying attack while invisible. [Charging in the arena is almost impossible if the opponent dosen't want to be charged and you have no means to change that. The only mentioning of invisiblity is as a reaction to when Barthleby is invisible which wasn't the case after his dispel magic] This is in the spirit and letter of my tactics. [Actually, invisibility would be useless because Barthleby would react with See Invisibility so this scenario you just displayed is asides from not being in your tactic also ineffective]

[I am sure I made no mistake here. The times when he single-moved away, he had cover against you which prevents AoOs. The rest were only 5ft steps with no other movement but if you show me the rounds I'll look at it again. Just to make sure you know: drawing a scroll is a move-equivalent action which is not = moving.]

[First of all, this would draw an AoO from Barthleby. Secondly, this is a complex maneuver that I cannot find in the tactic. Thirdly, it is only helpful for your superattack which missed. Fourthly, it would decrease your attack rate by at least 50% if you do that every round. Fithly and most importantly, Barthleby would not fly after you but away from you and he would leave cover between him and you. His aim was to stay at max range and in a position where he wouldn't be subject to a charge. This maneuver you proposed, that is also not in your tactic, would be to no avail and help Barthleby to get what he wants.]

I may be wrong, but I was under the impression that if you are the target of a spiritual weapon and move away from a spiritual weapon, they don't follow you around. The caster must use a move action to redirect the weapon to your new location. [Only if you move out of LOS. You have no spellcraft and avoiding spiritual weapons by moving away is not in your tactic.]

Also Bartelby doesn't move at all in round 16 nor does he move in rounds 18 or 19. In all those cases there should be AoO's for Kracknol or moves for Bartlby. [I just forgot to update the positions. Barthleby 5ft steps of course before using the scrolls. The last map is an example.]

The invisibility thing is critical and fight changing. If Kracknol's readied action triggers as I think it should have, then Kracknol's first attack attempt hits. The fight may be over quickly and with far less expense to everyone involved. [Again, this application of invisibility is out of context. You wanted to go invisible as a counter to Barthleby being invisibly attacking. Barthleby wasn't invisible though after the dispel magic. Not that it matters but even if you charge invisibly you will miss with your super-attack because we keep rolls.]

[Actually, your very invisibility ready tactic prevented you from closing in. You could only single-move a round, then you used the standard action to ready. Had you double-moved all the time, you would have based Barthleby much earlier. Your own tactic prevented that.]

Sauro, I hope I have answered your concerns to your satisfaction. Please keep in mind that when you ask for something it must be backed up by your tactic, and it must not be quoted out of context. Your tactic included no Plan B, a what if my initial attack fails. A grapple for example would've done wonders.

Hmmm.... now there's an idea. :evillaugh

Yeah, I'm also going to have to recreate some of the encounters. I originally had an EL 9 to fight the two of you, and I'll do that if you want only half the xp for fighting an EL 9. If you want the full xp, then I'll have you pit you two against two EL 9's, or the equivalent. :evillaugh.

Oh we wouldn't want to make you change your plans on such a short Notice Luken and Vandelar will be more than happy to share the experience for the ecl 9 encounters no need to double them ...... seriously :)

You missed in round 41 or 42 where Dronnar put back up Force Screen. I remember doing that, as it only made sense. Honestly, I figured you would've won that fight. But sometimes the dice gods are unfair.

Well, it is renewed in round 21, but there is no mention in rounds 41 or 42 in that battle. And anyway, he can spend only 2 PP in a fight (and has no tattoos of powerstones of Force Screen) so he can't be so well protected after round 41.

There are a 2 things that are wrong, but nothing that would change the outcome. So Im posting them only for your information and they dont need to be edited in:

- Simply seeing an Silent Image doesnt grant a save to disbelief. You have to interact with it first.

- I see no reason why Finrod shouldnt cast Ghoul Touch on round 6 and send Labra searching for him. Waiting for him to snip on me isnt exactly a great idea.

If I would have seen the thunderstone on his sheet, I would have kept the image farther away from Finrod and thus probably win this fight.
*sigh*
You never stop learning.

That makes the 3rd defeat this week.

Wow :mymy: . I can hardly believe I actually won that one. The big thing was him becoming deafened and failing the blindness check, but failing on Ghoul Touch too is just... wow.

Only thing I noted (which doesn't change the outcome) is that Featyelc doesn't have the Point-Blank Shot feat, so he doesn't gain extra attack/damage as noted (but as I said doesn't change the outcome, since the attacks still hit and damage remains enough to kill).

Edit: Oh, and Featylec gains 90 gp for WAR, not the CEF. That rogue Elf is by no means CEF material ;) .

Thanks for running the fight, especially since I know Featylec's aren't fun to run.

Yep, you're right. All I needed to do was look at the fight. I somehow misplaced the idea that Force Screen ends on round 41. This will change the outcome of the fight. Little Daisy (DSugui) vs Lepidus (Azarius): Nickbeat[ECL3] and

Tueor (MysticMonk2005) vs. Shashel (Papapeperoni) is up.

Still ironing out the details...

I'm ok with the fight, just two comments:

- Daisy won the initiative, but she's acting after Ledipus;

- in round 8, Daisy has too many actions. She cannot shot with the sling and cast Produce Flame. I think this will only extend the fight for one more round, but...

@King Uther: When you edit Dronnar's fight, please add the profession money in the rewards.

Yes, it is. But when your readied action is triggered in the following round, you don't get your regular actions in that round.

Daisy would shot with the sling in round 8, but would only cast Produce Flame in round 9.

Unfortunately, real life has hit hard and I am simply not going to be able to finish the Sliver vs Boraxx fight. I have run the first 9 rounds of the fight already, but simply will not have a chance to finish it. If someone else could finish it, it would be very much appreciated.

Here's how I see it. You break invisibility when you cast a spell that targets an opponent or includes one in it's area of effect. You decide on the target and area of effect when the spell is completed. If your spell is disrupted or fails for some reason then you didn't complete the spell and could not pick a target or area of effect. Therefore, your invisibility is still intact.

@Abyssal

Vigor was ML2, which is 10 hp. The scorching ray does only deal 3 damage. My tactics say to withdraw from the bag animals, staying away from them. However, attacking one of them is not listed to do. The Withdraw action gets me away easily from the bear or the wolf. If Hide From Animals is in effect, I'd have waited until Makar was visible to begin attacking anything. Even letting my mount die if needed. I knew it would be hard to kill Makar if the fight went longer, so I planned to make a defensive stand, firing arrows and hoping to get lucky. Makar will die in 1 or 2 hits from an arrow(on the 1 or 2 nat 20s I'd have to roll)..

I fixed the scorching ray problem, it was a clear mistake. I missed the vigor, so I have to go and fix things more. The reason Alagar had to go to melee with the bear was that I considered running away a delay tactic. The bear could reach Alagar by running even if Alagar was withdrawing all the time. The arena is circular, which caused the bear to catch Alagar in the first place. I wouldn't change this. But I'll go and fix the vigor thing, it might give Alagar a chance!

Edit: FIXED. THINGS CHANGED!

I meant to mention this before I went to work today, but I looked back and I forgot to. Makar has a maneuverability of poor, which means he cannot hover, and must move half his movement every round to maintain flight. He cannot turn in place, and during flight may only turn 45o. Also, poor maneuverability means having to move at least 10ft before climbing any distance. It's all right here. (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/carryingAndExploration.html) He will not be nearly as tactically strong, as his flight sucks. I planned on that being the case, and by enforcing those movement rules it makes him much easier to kill.

Thanks for pointing this out. As you might notice, I don't have much experience on flying creatures. This is something that I can't fix before the deadline, so if you and Tagg want this corrected, you should ask for a rerun. I'm not sure if it would change things a lot, since Makar can always fly that required half speed. This might change some things, but probably in favor of Alagar so the result would stay the same. I apologize that I didn't check the fly speed issue, it was probably the only thing that I didn't check.

If you ask for my opinion as the Pitlord, I suppose that the result would stay the same and correction isn't necessary, allthough I don't like to leave the fight erroneus. But since the time is almost up, it is more important to get the characters forward. Feel free to agree.

I didn't get the memo we ended up losing that fight. I am going to post it in the FotW thread, but in round 8 when Ajora dies, right before that he fires a critical hitting arrow. You never confirmed, but using thematic rolls the next attack in the string confirms for 3d8+9 damage. That will most likely knock Leif out, changing the fight dramatically.

If your spell is disrupted or fails for some reason then you didn't complete the spell and could not pick a target or area of effect. Therefore, your invisibility is still intact.

KerlanRayneThat's a good point. Example: Cha1, invisible, begins to cast Ray of Frost on Cha2. Cha3, who can see invisibility, readied an action to bull rush Cha1. The attempt succeeds and Cha1 is pushed back. Cha1 is now too far away from Cha2 to reach him with the Ray, but since he doesn't have to choose the target until the spell is completed, he harmlessly discharges the Ray into the floor. His Invisibility should remain intact.

@ nickbeat - thanks for running the fight. I'm more or less okay with it, though it's generally a wee bit shaky - no offense. Produce Flame does not do Strength damage at range under any circumstances - and this does have an effect, since it means Lepidus doesn't drop, and gets another action that round and another round following. And there is the sling/flame mare's-nest, which I think you've already untangled.

Sure, Lepidus is hard-pressed, but the fights need to be fought out regardless, I think. And he has at least one more spell...

I disagree, and here's why. Going back to the original situation, Finrod selected a target (Featylec) and cast a spell at him. The spell was completed, but it was completed incorrectly (i.e. miscast). Since the spell was targeted at an opponent, and was completed, the invisibility goes away. Whether the spell was completed correctly or incorrectly has no bearing on the situation.

In the above example, the invisibility would remain intact, because the ray spell had not yet been completed. The situations are different. In the Finrod/Featylec situation, the spell was completed, but was completed incorrectly. If it wasn't completed, then there would be no way that Finrod could lose the spell due to a miscasting. But since it was completed, but completed incorrectly, he lost the spell and broke his invisibility.

I don't see why a rerun would matter- I lost this time I'm certainly going to lose when circumstances are LESS favorable. Congrats.

Besides I'm pretty sure I'll be retiring him... He seemed good at first but when I was trying to write tactics for him he actually has NOTHING to do to finish off his opponent, at least nothing easy or cheap. I planned on the bag of tricks summons to be able to attack while I fiddled, which was my main plan when I made him, but then I realized that animals would be affected by the fiddling too.

Exactly. The spell was cast, the target was picked, but the target was not affected because the spell was cast incorrectly.

Basically what this discussion boils down to is when the miscasting comes into play....prior to spell completion or after the spell is complete. If it is before the spell is complete, then the invisibility would be maintained. If it is after, then it wouldn't. I fall on the side of after.
