| waywreth03-14-07, 03:15 PM | Fights of the Week: March 14th Please don't edit the sheet after the deadline or you will lose the match. Rules of Gladius All that you need to know is written in the Rules of Gladius. It could be useful also to give a look to the Court Decisions Part 1 and Part 2. Please do not make fake accounts or insult the Elders. Pairings GM Caterane will pair the active Characters of Gladius after the deadline. Make sure that your character is not in prison (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=571107&goto=lastpost). Pitlording You should use the CoCo Dice Roller (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com) for the fight. If you need it, there is a nice template ready to use that will help. You could find the Battle Map Tag Generator (http://www.hwx.it/coco) for dynamic Maps very useful. You must post a link to your fight in this thread when it is complete. If you need a quick and dirty tool to calculate distances between two points (in 2-D or 3-D), this tool (http://wormhole.ath.cx/coco/coco_dist.php) should suffice. Another useful link is the Quick Access tables for XP and Gold. If a fight needs to be rerun, the Pitlord has to inform the Pitlords account. He cannot react to requests from Players because the other player and the pitlord might disagree. He has no time to read the fight and the discussion. Please keep that in mind. PMs from players with rerun requests won't have an impact. Recent News and Developments The Iron Man (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=790318) tournament is scheduled to start TODAY! Comments & Concerns Post any comments or concerns for this weeks fights in this thread. Be kind and courteous to your fellow posters, and don't feed the pitlords. Please remember that they do hard work and consume a lot of time to let you play. Above all, have FUN! If you have questions or comments on any of the changes, please make your posts be heard in the Council of Gladius! |
| MitzaVolchenko03-14-07, 03:20 PM | don't feed the pitlords But I'm hungry! Good luck all! I am strictly a pitlord this week unless Indi happens to get paired this week in IMT...then I am a pitlord and a snacky treat (but don't worry Indi will be feeding another player, not a pitlord). *grins* |
| waywreth03-14-07, 03:23 PM | I'm thinking of posting the handicapping odds when the pairings go up for the Iron Man - just for fun of course. |
| Rauul03-14-07, 03:28 PM | I'm thinking of posting the handicapping odds when the pairings go up for the Iron Man - just for fun of course. Please do... i will make bets with at least one of my charaters... hehe a Betting pool.. we should have RP area where players can post and make bets with the local Bookie.. |
| Macbrea03-14-07, 03:47 PM | Alittle hard to set odds on this one. Based off records: The Harvester (Caterane) + The Pale-Rider (Tellish of Ket) 0.93 Mer-Man (Caterane) 0.90 Uhmentarymster the Old (Caterane) 0.87 Archangel Ixenthor (Caterane) 0.86 Leif Goldeneye (Sunwolf) 0.84 Eraca Moralta (Zevox) 0.78 Indri'ynar Per'Elereth (Caterane) 0.76 Gaston Dar'ath (waywreth) 0.74 Noko (Maraxus) 0.74 Monsieur Hood (TheMagister) 0.74 Besthirah Lafali (MindWandererB) 0.71 Kracknol (SauroGrenom) 0.67 Aerryl Nalladar (MindWandererB) 0.65 Vandelar the Red (SoulLord) 0.65 Va'ria Theladrais (Sindorin) 0.63 Istima Telarc (Zevox) + Ihdald Seaslash (Milov) 0.61 Loddick Saffrion (Erithmu) 0.58 Telveran Trueblade (Sunwolf) 0.57 Raskos the Jade Father (SauroGrenom) 0.55 Archdevil Asran (Zevox) 0.54 Lissa Longfellow (MysticMonk2005) 0.52 Zassl (Maraxus) 0.52 Auburn (Vathelokai) 0.50 Brilf Zephyr (Sunwolf) 0.47 Kraegin (TelinArtho) 0.39 Saffron Brass (Vathelokai) 0.36 Lord Frost (Macbrea) 0.33 Perius (Ravashack) 0.30 Lady Indivara (MitzaVolchenko) 0.00 Retikos, The Padparadasha Sage (SauroGrenom) 0.00 Jur, The Mad Magician (Tellish_of_Ket) 0.00 Owen Ir'Tolden (Erithmu) + Silis Lueria (MindWandererB) 0.00 If best overall record is any indication. Cat is going to have to make some decisions. |
| MindWandererB03-14-07, 03:52 PM | Heh... interesting "odds." Bet on Silis and Owen and earn an infinite return! |
| Macbrea03-14-07, 03:54 PM | Well. that isn't the odds.. that is the chance of winning based off records. :P |
| Erithmu03-14-07, 03:56 PM | Heh... interesting "odds." Bet on Silis and Owen and earn an infinite return! I love being an underdog ... just makes us all the more dangerous. Loddick is just under the 50/50 mark too, that should be fun as well, I know he is scarier on paper than his record shows. |
| Macbrea03-14-07, 03:59 PM | Should also mention that the last 3 are impossible to judge as they have never fought in the arena. So, as to their chances, they are new-comers. Can only be marked as unknowns. |
| Erithmu03-14-07, 04:02 PM | Should also mention that the last 4 are impossible to judge as they have never fought in the arena. So, as to their chances, they are new-comers. Can only be marked as unknowns. We prefer Cinderella stories. |
| TheMagister03-14-07, 04:11 PM | Anybody who thinks Hood has a 74% chance of winning is out of his gourd. Now, if those are only off by ONE decimal place: 7.4% sounds about right right now. |
| MitzaVolchenko03-14-07, 04:13 PM | *banishes IMT bookmakers and smack talkers to the IMT gossip and rumors thread* |
| McJarvis03-14-07, 04:14 PM | *banishes IMT bookmakers and smack talkers to the IMT gossip and rumors thread* But it's not gossip & rumors anymore...now it's comments on the current fights of the week! Granted, not the normal pairings... |
| Macbrea03-14-07, 04:15 PM | No, that is your win loss record compared to everyone else. The pairings are going to decide really how that goes. Example: If in the first round: Monsieur Hood (TheMagister) 0.74 faces Zassl (Maraxus) 0.52 The odds are probably 3 to 2 in favor of hood winning that fight. |
| Tellish_of_Ket03-14-07, 04:15 PM | Maybe make a seperate thread for FoTW - IMT discussions, since i suspect there will be MANY! ToK |
| Macbrea03-14-07, 04:19 PM | Heh.. ok, ok.. no odd making in this thread!.. There was real rules discussions going on in the IMT thread! |
| Rauul03-14-07, 04:19 PM | Anybody who thinks Hood has a 74% chance of winning is out of his gourd. Now, if those are only off by ONE decimal place: 7.4% sounds about right right now. Acually... i am giving hood 75% odds of making it to the Semi-finals... after that... it will go by what one of Cat's make it and what other one makes it... there is a 99.99% chance of meeting one of Cats charaters there (she has 5 in and only 1 can make it to semi's).. But now that Hood has seen harvey in action... i expect his tactics will change.. acually boosting his odds.. As for the 0-0 records... Yea right.. how many miniquests, guild quests and quests have they been on and that don't get added to the record.. |
| McJarvis03-14-07, 04:21 PM | Heh. everyone always seems to think Cat is a girly girl. |
| MindWandererB03-14-07, 05:24 PM | As for myself, I see no reason to bet. The only thing I would bet on is that the finals consist of one of Cat's characters surrendering to another one. There's no point in picking a winner under those conditions. I'd put better than even odds on all 4 semifinalists being Cat's, also--probably Uhme, Harvey/Pale-Rider, and Mer-Man being three (not sure whether Ix or Indri is better). |
| Pitlords03-14-07, 05:44 PM | PAIRINGS DONE Credits will be assigned tomorow when the Iron Man Pairings are added. @IMT: The deadline to edit your sheets will be thursday 9 PM CET. I am at my Debating Club on thursday till 10 PM CET (and need to drive home afterwards) so don't worry if I'm not around around the deadline. |
| MitzaVolchenko03-14-07, 05:47 PM | Le Petit Guepe's set up is here. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=11767463&postcount=671) |
| Erithmu03-14-07, 05:48 PM | Minor switch: Osiris is set ready for 2/21 (Feb) So just bump her and move Kervan down into that fight. I can run that fight since Templer already has 3 others. Confirm? |
| templer1003-14-07, 06:07 PM | Minor switch: Osiris is set ready for 2/21 (Feb) So just bump her and move Kervan down into that fight. I can run that fight since Templer already has 3 others. Confirm? not a problem for me |
| templer1003-14-07, 06:11 PM | Iam running 3 fights this week then- for - • Lightwolf Phoenixstar (Yitzi) vs. Briem Esala (LaundryGnome) • Nyphanalith (TaggIIV) vs. Tueor Amplexus (MysticMonk2005) : templer10 [Forest] • Razorfang (Macbrea) vs. Sabra Marana (Etiquette_Gnome) : templer10 [Plains] i would much prefer to get tactics early- i want to get at least 1 fight done tommarow. so first 2 gladiators to send tactics wins an early fight. |
| Caterane03-14-07, 06:11 PM | Kervan Sheharath (MindWandererB) vs. Reginald Molehusband (hogarth) : Erithmu [Temple] |
| sonofzeal03-14-07, 06:13 PM | *checks who he's pitlording for this week* Woah.... all your ECL4 are belong to me. Fun fun! Also, yet another fight against an untested enemy. Wow, and I have no idea how this is going to go, but I have a feeling it'll be short and bloody. Tactics will be sent when I can figure my way around those skill packages. There's a 100% chance of me taking 3d10 damage before the fight starts, right? |
| Sjiggie03-14-07, 06:21 PM | My characters Tralamin (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=11016791&postcount=1037) and Anastria (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=11022205&postcount=1038) didn't get paired. I checked the roster and for some reason unknown to me all of my characters have been taken off the roster without me knowing. Is there a way that they can get paired this pairings. If it is necessary I can pitlord a fight this week but not an IMT fight. The characters being taken off the roster are Anastria (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=11022205&postcount=1038), Tralamin (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=11016791&postcount=1037) and Zerth Cenobite (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=10519501&postcount=981) Thanks Sjiggie |
| templer1003-14-07, 06:25 PM | can someone tell me why my super tripper (harbinger) always get paired with ranged guys? and 2 of them at th same time- sigh- at least it's not in the plains or something stupid like that. and just noticed- WILDERS ffs- damn high touch ac- mutter mutter. i feel a lose coming. |
| Erithmu03-14-07, 06:30 PM | My characters Tralamin (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=11016791&postcount=1037) and Anastria (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=11022205&postcount=1038) didn't get paired. The other two have been inactive for a month, and I think Cat removes them if that is the case, Just send a PM to Pitlords and have them reinstated. |
| Zevox03-14-07, 06:33 PM | can someone tell me why my super tripper (harbinger) always get paired with ranged guys? and 2 of them at th same time- sigh- at least it's not in the plains or something stupid like that. Probably because ranged guys tend to be quite common in the CoCo. Mobility and ranged attacking is just such a wonderful advantage against meleers and more effective against casters than trying to catch them for melee, at least in the long-term. Anyway, I think have worse luck in that regard. My tripper, Arden, has his 3rd fight this week. Hes up against a Dwarf Cleric (who can enlarge, no less). In his previous two weeks, hes fought a Worg and a Dwarf Warmind. Thats three opponents in a row, comprising his entire career, that are resistant to trips, and two of them have the ability to grow to large size for even more resistance to it. Annoying, to say the least. Good thing thats not the entire focus of his combat style. Zevox |
| Macbrea03-14-07, 06:33 PM | @templer10: tactics for razorfang sent... those could be boring. |
| templer1003-14-07, 06:38 PM | Ana might be if you didn't send a PM to pitlords to add to the roster. The other two have been inactive for a month, and I think Cat removes them if that is the case, Just send a PM to Pitlords and have them reinstated. i just gave away 1 fight so i can still run 1 more fight- but it will have to be probably a monster fight(and i hope to something nothing with class levels)- just need someone to confirm i can do that. |

If I can take on of your fights you can run 2 monster fights for my characters when that is ok with Cat. *crosses fingers* |

If I can take on of your fights you can run 2 monster fights for my characters when that is ok with Cat. *crosses fingers* yea no problem for me- your getting the 1 in the forest rofl- i hate that place. just post here if that's okay |
| Sjiggie03-14-07, 07:02 PM | That's okay with me I'll take your fight in the forest if Cat allows it |
| McJarvis03-14-07, 07:04 PM | Son of a b^%$@. Looks like I'm a Pitlord for Ironman. |
| Horatius03-14-07, 07:05 PM | Le Petit Guepe's set up is here. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=11767463&postcount=671) Thanks. Note that I am now ECL 4, having gained a level after my last fight. I presume that will change the monster roll, so I will wait for you to update the setup before PMing tactics. |
| Tellish_of_Ket03-14-07, 07:06 PM | @Mitza: Tactics for psychosis sent. I wish my opponent the best coughcoughworst of luck. ToK |
| False_Keraptis03-14-07, 07:10 PM | Charles Ponzi (UserNamer) vs. Fnorri the Miser (False_Keraptis) : sonofzeal [Plains] Is there any way these two can be re-paired? They met just last week. |
| False_Keraptis03-14-07, 07:19 PM | Arden Tarmik (Zevox) vs. Gundmir Guldesdep (False_Keraptis) : Rauul [Forest] Also, didn't I hear that we weren't using the forest map for now? |
| SauroGrenom03-14-07, 07:21 PM | Also, didn't I hear that we weren't using the forest map for now? The description of the forest map has been altered (I think). Also it wasn't pulled from the rotation. It was suggested that we pull it from the rotation, but I don't think Cat agreed to that. He agreed to edit the map's description. |
| Zevox03-14-07, 07:23 PM | Also, didn't I hear that we weren't using the forest map for now? No, you didn't. Zevox |

It was suggested that we pull it from the rotation, but I don't think Cat agreed to that. He agreed to edit the map's description. Actually, Cat did agree to pull it until it was fixed, but then he fixed it. By his estimation, anyway. @Rith: Tactics for Kervan's suicidal challenge of Reginald Molehusband have been sent. Blech. |
| hogarth03-14-07, 07:32 PM | @Ettiquette_Gnome: tactic sent for Balthazar Picsou. |
| MysticMonk200503-14-07, 07:53 PM | Nyphanalith (TaggIIV) vs. Tueor Amplexus (MysticMonk2005) : templer10 [Forest] Oh boy... twice in a row... |
| Sutro03-14-07, 08:12 PM | @Rauul: Tactics for the meeting of the minds sent! Why do I get the feeling Harbinger's going to be a ray sandwich? |
| sonofzeal03-14-07, 08:17 PM | It has recently come to light that Hajj has no Holly or Mistletoe. Now, in PM conversation with Mitza over this, the only relevent SRD quotes I could find was this: Divine Focus (DF) A divine focus component is an item of spiritual significance. The divine focus for a cleric or a paladin is a holy symbol appropriate to the character’s faith. If the Components line includes F/DF or M/DF, the arcane version of the spell has a focus component or a material component (the abbreviation before the slash) and the divine version has a divine focus component (the abbreviation after the slash). I couldn't find anything in the SRD that talked about Divine Focus except in explicit context of Clerics and Paladins, nothing about Druids. Now, there seems to be two ways of ruling this - only Clerics and Paladins need Divine Focuses, or every caster needs a Divine Focus to cast a spell with "DF" in its Components list. Then I saw "Protection From Energy"... Protection from Energy Abjuration Level: Clr 3, Drd 3, Luck 3, Protection 3, Rgr 2, Sor/Wiz 3 Components: V, S, DF ....meaning that sorcs and wizards potentially need a Divine Focus to cast the spell. At this point Mitza asked me to get Elder opinions on this. |
| Zevox03-14-07, 08:24 PM | ....meaning that sorcs and wizards potentially need a Divine Focus to cast the spell. At this point Mitza asked me to get Elder opinions on this. All divine casters (Rangers, Druids, Clerics, and Paladins) use divine foci if the spell indicates it requires it. Divine foci for Clerics and Paladins tends to be holy symbols, and for Rangers and Druids they tend to be holly & mistletoe or a similar item (my evil Druid used a burned pinecone, for instance). Arcane casters like Sorcerers and Wizards never use divine foci (thats why they're divine foci). They do use arcane foci, if the spell calls for such (and are presumed to have any without a specified gp value if they have a spell component pouch). Example of one that does, with relevant parts bolded: Hold Person Enchantment (Compulsion) [Mind-Affecting] Level: Brd 2, Clr 2, Sor/Wiz 3 Components: V, S, F/DF Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level Target: One humanoid creature Duration: 1 round/level (D); see text Saving Throw: Will negates; see text Spell Resistance: Yes The subject becomes paralyzed and freezes in place. It is aware and breathes normally but cannot take any actions, even speech. Each round on its turn, the subject may attempt a new saving throw to end the effect. (This is a full-round action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity.) A winged creature who is paralyzed cannot flap its wings and falls. A swimmer can’t swim and may drown. Arcane Focus: A small, straight piece of iron. |
| MindWandererB03-14-07, 08:25 PM | It has recently come to light that Hajj has no Holly or Mistletoe. Then I saw "Protection From Energy"... ....meaning that sorcs and wizards potentially need a Divine Focus to cast the spell. At this point Mitza asked me to get Elder opinions on this.I've never seen it done any differently than as follows: Divine casters need divine foci, other casters do not. Sometimes an arcane caster needs a different focus or component instead, but sometimes they just skip it. For Prot. Energy, an arcane caster uses only V,S components, and a divine one (including a druid) uses a DF. However, I can't find any better explanation in the SRD. Maybe in the PHB? Edit: One bizarre difference: the PH describes the holly and mistletoe's function in both the "Divine Focus" section and in the equipment sectipn, but the SRD doesn't. |
| sonofzeal03-14-07, 08:30 PM | I understand that, but Protection From Energy doesn't say F/DF (like Hold Person) or M/DF (like Bull's Strength), which leaves it in an awkward postion. MWB, I agree with you; that's the way I've always done it too. But if Hajj is going to be potentially spell-less for a whole 3FC until he can buy stuff, I'd rather be 100% sure there isn't some loophole he can slip through. And like you said, the SRD is strangely ambiguous on the subject. |
| MitzaVolchenko03-14-07, 08:34 PM | Okay we have more issues that focus and spell pouch. ToK is way over on allies. Apparently somewhere in the 2.5 messages worth of tactics he forfeits his mount. Because Ineed space in my PM box, this is moving here. Option #1 Hajj gets to take a prison violation for his lack of DF/Pouch and must purchase both next time he is allowed to buy things. Tellish picks whether he wants a merc, a trap, or a horse. Option #2 Hajj does without any spell requiring DF or Material component. I randomly select which ally Tellish gets. Option #3 I autosurrender Tellish for having completely illegal allies. |
| MindWandererB03-14-07, 08:36 PM | I understand that, but Protection From Energy doesn't say F/DF (like Hold Person) or M/DF (like Bull's Strength), which leaves it in an awkward postion. And like you said, the SRD is strangely ambiguous on the subject. Prot. Energy just doesn't require anything from an arcane caster, then, other than the V/S. Y'know, most pitlords will let you get out of this one, since the holly is a free and weightless item. Worst-case scenario, you lose access to Bull's Strength, Entangle, and SNA for now. Produce Flame, Cat's Grace, and Cure Minor Wounds don't require a DF. @Mitza: For Hajj, it's a minor oversight, so I'd go with the Prison there. For Tellish, he wanted the trap if defending and the horse if attacking, and he hasn't actually hired Barak (not designated as hired on the roster). So he gets the trap. |
| Zevox03-14-07, 08:45 PM | I understand that, but Protection From Energy doesn't say F/DF (like Hold Person) or M/DF (like Bull's Strength), which leaves it in an awkward postion. Not at all. A divine focus is just that - a divine focus. Divine spells use them, arcane don't. Arcane use arcane foci instead. If the entry just says DF as a component, then divine casters need a divine focus to cast it, and arcane casters need no focus at all. Option #1 Hajj gets to take a prison violation for his lack of DF/Pouch and must purchase both next time he is allowed to buy things. You can't put Hajj in prison for lacking those items. Thats not a violation, just a poor decision/oversight on his part. As for whether to let him cast in spite of it, thats up to you of course, but I've never seen anyone prohibit it on a first offense (and as MWB said, in this case the focus he needs is a free weightless item anyway). What to do about Tellish's allies - well, I just say use your best judgment there. I have no idea what I'd do in your position. Thats one bad screw up. Zevox |
| Macbrea03-14-07, 08:46 PM | Y'know, most pitlords will let you get out of this one, since the holly is a free and weightless item. So are quarterstaves and sling stones but we require them to be listed on the character sheet also. I personally would violate the character and ask the opponent whether they would allow their opponent to acquire some holly before the match. Edit: technically, your correct it isn't a violation to not bring useful items to the arena. But, it is up to the opponent on whether your allowed to bring forgotten items into the arena. |
| Tellish_of_Ket03-14-07, 08:49 PM | Option #3 I autosurrender Tellish for having completely illegal allies. I don't get any allies. MWB is right...Barak wasn't hired. Plus for some strange reason i didn't think mercs counted towards your MaxCa cap. I guess now i know they do. My mount is taken with me if the opponent is able to completely by-pass the trap, since if he does so, the trap doesn't count towards my MaxCa, as per trap rules. In this particular instance, the trap is sprung and i can't bring in my mount. ToK |
| Macbrea03-14-07, 08:53 PM | Wait a second, You're able to put: Prebuff If no trap bring horse. Set trap against trappable opponent, in this case don't bring horse? |

The violation on Hajj will remain until the items that I am giving him access to are legally on his character sheet. Psychosis with new insight can clear that violation as soon as the fight is posted and finalized. I will handle the trap when I am done working on McJarvis' mission. |
| McJarvis03-14-07, 08:54 PM | when I am done working on McJarvis' mission. :pile: :bounce: :invasion: |
| Macbrea03-14-07, 08:58 PM | Darn it! Am bored.. Username and NiQil write your tactics! Got nothing better to do but stare at board. And people not talkin' fast enough! |

Zevox That was my Denshi vs Harvester at ECL6. Harvey had made it that far before anyone noticed that it was missing a divine focus. (not to mention Cat's standard other 5 errors on the sheet). I agreed to let him cast spells, and set the precident for going easy on clerics who forget their holy symbols (it's come up a couple times since then) |
| Zevox03-14-07, 10:42 PM | I agreed to let him cast spells, and set the precident for going easy on clerics who forget their holy symbols (it's come up a couple times since then) Don't I know it - I pitlorded a couple of those. The only time I've ever been stringent about something like that was when I ran Osiris' first fight, and she not only had no spell component pouch, but no gold to buy it with. Couldn't give her wiggle room on that one I'm afraid. Zevox |

Given Reginald's history of success of concept, I'm inclined to say Balthazar will probably be able to afford a wand of wish at ECL 5, ECL 6 tops. |

Given Reginald's history of success of concept, I'm inclined to say Balthazar will probably be able to afford a wand of wish at ECL 5, ECL 6 tops. Yes, Balthazar is an attempt to make some money. He won't make money that fast, though. Maybe he'll be 1500 gp above "average" if he ever hits ECL 4. I think I'll remove him from the roster before that point, though. His only real attack at this point is to cast Sleep and hope that works -- it's pretty useless against elves. Reginald Molehusband used to be more cheesy when the Forgery skill allowed you to bring extra allies to the fight (which was wisely removed). Now he's faltering a bit; it only takes a couple of big hits to take him out at this point. |

| templer1003-15-07, 07:16 AM | I'm betting you get neither. :) i like you optimisem. and on another note - since it might come up in a fight i have to run and to avoid the screaming afterwards- when starting a grapple if you win the inital grapple attempt you do dmg to the other guy as if hit with unarmed strike- first- wha happen if the winnerof the grapple check has a natural weapon (bite) and dont have claw as natural weapon does he do t he bite dmg or the unarmed strike dmg? second- iam pretty sure on this but when grappling - you really cant trip somebeody even if it's an ability that is automaticly activated if you hit win an attack - first it's not 1 of the actions possible in a grapple and second- it's not in the rules but common sense dictate that you cant both grapple and trip somebody or taht even if you could- in order to maintain the grapple you would have to be both in prone position which is a stupid thing 2 do. |
| TheMagister03-15-07, 07:23 AM | No, but if you have improved trip you could touch to trip and (if successful) then take your free attack to start the grapple... Isn't there a RotG "all about grappling" or an FAQ entry that says what disadvantage a prone grappler is at vs. a non-prone grappler? TM |
| templer1003-15-07, 07:55 AM | No, but if you have improved trip you could touch to trip and (if successful) then take your free attack to start the grapple... Isn't there a RotG "all about grappling" or an FAQ entry that says what disadvantage a prone grappler is at vs. a non-prone grappler? TM i am actually refereing to a still theoreticl situation of which a grapple is achieved hen an attack with a natural weapon is achieved which has an attached EXtraordinary ability to be able to start a trip attempt as a free action (see worg monster description). EDIT - i just saw this in the ROTG- as an additional option to do when grappling. "Throw Your Foe to the Ground: This works just like a trip attack except that you don't make an initial touch attack (because you're grasping your foe already) and you and your foe make opposed grapple checks to resolve the trip attack. If you win, you and your foe fall prone in the space you both share, but you're still grappling. At your option you can take a -4 penalty on the opposed check; if you win you break your foe's hold on you and you throw your foe to the ground in a space adjacent to the space you formerly shared. (You stay on your feet.) Your foe's movement does not provoke attacks of opportunity, nor does it count against her movement for the current turn (or her next turn)." this rule actually make sense but for the life of me i cant understand why would someone WANT to grapple someone when both are prone- doenst seem to do anything but make you even more vulnarable to outside interference. |
| Macbrea03-15-07, 08:31 AM | Heh, sorry.. it's purely a habit I am trying to get into with Razorfang. At 7th he will have a goblin rogue 2/ranger 2/Cleric 1 on his back. Which means throwing people to the ground only helps the goblin out excessively. And wrestling with them while they are on the ground becomes slightly deadly with the rider not considered part of the grapple. |
| TheMagister03-15-07, 09:06 AM | I can think of several environmental hazards that could be taken advantage of with that option. Flying (trip the other guy and remain airborne) Lava Acid pool (sewer) That's all I can think of at the moment. Tessero just got a little more deadly. Flying uber-grapplers like that were-whatever that somebody invented once would be terrifying... |
| Abyssal Stalker03-15-07, 09:06 AM | Ana might be if you didn't send a PM to pitlords to add to the roster. The other two have been inactive for a month, and I think Cat removes them if that is the case, Just send a PM to Pitlords and have them reinstated. Yeah, Cat keeps dumping my characters to the graveyard all the time. Undertaker doesn't mind, though. |

| Macbrea03-15-07, 10:58 AM | And by the way.. my tactics really wouldn't have changed either way. I have to charge her wether I win or loose the initative. Theory being I might actually make one of those saves. |

Theory being I might actually make one of those saves. you would have a better chance if you only double moved the first round and then advance slower to stay out of range until you can in 1 run action get to base and in that way get hit with only 1 energy missile. |
| Macbrea03-15-07, 11:11 AM | Which should have just resulted in a 5ft step backwords after the run and the same second blast. Result said I was going to take two blasts, either way. So, one at 150ft and one at 30ft is no different then one at 150ft and one at 10ft. So, in truth. I needed to make those saves for half damage. And he needed to roll average. The odds were against me on that style of fight. |
| Etiquette_Gnome03-15-07, 11:48 AM | Slight comment on the fight, Templer10, Sabra did a free activity (crafting); so you might want to try put that in the rewards. And yeah, I was contemplating an intricate strategy of levitation and control flames where I have the flame wait to move. I would levitate down to the so you to move towards me, and I would then move back up and have the fire run over you. You would move away, and I would bait you again to burn you some more. The problem with that is the potential misinterpretation by the pitlord and the fact could use the 10 round aspect for delay penalty so I would only get to do that move-and-bait trick once a minute or so and thus only deal 15d3 fire damage. Of course, looking at Razorfang's tactics, you didn't think of that part so that tactic would've killed you without fail; but I didn't think gambling on tactics would be a good idea. |

| Macbrea03-15-07, 01:05 PM | I am not sure the strategy of moving down to be reachable would work. Once you were grappled it would result in a locked combat without movement. And there is no reason ever for a character that cannot reach you to approach you. Delay penalty say I will try to get into combat with you if I can. If you make it so, I cannot ever get in combat with you, I am not required to get within range of your attacks. I can simply sit and wait. The pitlord is allowed to drop dispel on me and point out my location. Your choosen strategy was the best overall strategy to use. |

The pitlord is allowed to drop dispel on me and point out my location. Your choosen strategy was the best overall strategy to use. The strategy hinged on you moving out to 160' from me while I levitated, and then running to me so you could base me once I touched the ground. Since you wouldn't threaten any squares from the act of running (I'm further than your charge), I would then have my turn to take a move action upward and out of reach without giving you a chance to attack. The fire would then move over you and you would run 160' back out since I was levitating. Rinse and repeat, and following your tactics you would try to base me once I hit ground. However, as I said, the strategy hinged on some assumptions I didn't have a certainty on; while the one I went with was simpler and more reliable (due to lack of uncertainty in interpretation). Also, the reason I stated the missing Crafting is that the Rewards sblock has [Free Activity: None] listed. Also, +31% of 1600gp = 2096gp, meaning my total reward is 2250.7gp |

| Abyssal Stalker03-16-07, 04:11 PM | You get a surprise round if you're one level below the EL, I believe. At least I gave you an extra surprise round (not that it mattered much). Yes, of course, I just started to think it because last time when Jonathon tried to do an EL10 mission with Anixx it was ruled that they can't do it because they both were mid-cycle and their team EL was 11. I don't think that this matters, though. I at least hope that he is allowed to fight something with higher EL allthough being mid-cycle. He doesn't get anything too easy and only one who will lose here is me if anyone. |

Plus it's within 30', so i should have an extra 1d6 sneak attack dmg added. ToK Excuse me? Since when was Hajj helpless at that point? If he WAS, you'd be correct and the attack would hit for damage + sneak damage. But as it stands, it missed and wouldn't have done sneak otherwise. A character with 0 hit points, or one who has negative hit points but has become stable and conscious, is disabled. A disabled character may take a single move action or standard action each round (but not both, nor can she take full-round actions). She moves at half speed. Taking move actions doesn’t risk further injury, but performing any standard action (or any other action the game master deems strenuous, including some free actions such as casting a quickened spell) deals 1 point of damage after the completion of the act. Unless the action increased the disabled character’s hit points, she is now in negative hit points and dying. A disabled character with negative hit points recovers hit points naturally if she is being helped. Otherwise, each day she has a 10% chance to start recovering hit points naturally (starting with that day); otherwise, she loses 1 hit point. Once an unaided character starts recovering hit points naturally, she is no longer in danger of losing hit points (even if her current hit points are negative). |

A disabled character with negative hit points recovers hit points naturally if she is being helped. Otherwise, each day she has a 10% chance to start recovering hit points naturally (starting with that day); otherwise, she loses 1 hit point. Once an unaided character starts recovering hit points naturally, she is no longer in danger of losing hit points (even if her current hit points are negative).[/sblock] You are neither stable, nor conscious. ToK *goes back to check* Ah, you're right, because she applied the Alchemist's Fire carryover damage before she resolved your attack. That seems off to me, though - usually I'd apply it right after the thrower's next turn, or at the beginning of the victim's turn. What's the official rule? |

| sonofzeal03-16-07, 05:41 PM | As soon as round 3 begins. ToK B'huh? Meaning that if I had thrown the Alchemist's Fire, it would have burned you twice before you had the chance to roll on the ground? |
| Tellish_of_Ket03-16-07, 05:46 PM | Strategically...yes. There are strategies to use them to maximum effectiveness. But you did have the option to roll...unfortunately you couldn't because you were disabled (0 hp). So at the top of the following round, it's secondary effect comes into play. At lower levels in our TT game, i use alchy fires to good effect like that. I will delay until i'm the last to act, then move up and plow it in somebody's face. Works great. ToK |
| Sjiggie03-16-07, 05:54 PM | @Templer 10, I sent a PM to pitlords but I don't have an answer yet and my characters aren't added to the roster so I don't think we swap the fight. Seems like your still have to run a fight on the forest map. |

ToK I've always read "on the round following a direct hit" to imply that a full round (6 seconds) must pass between when it hit and when the secondary is applied. That's the only definition of "round" that makes sense to me, in light of "1 round" casting times and durations. Basically, everything else that goes for 1 round interprets the round as ending at the point in the initiative order where it began. I can't imagine why Alchemist's Fire would follow completely different rules for this. |
| hogarth03-16-07, 07:17 PM | I've always read "on the round following a direct hit" to imply that a full round (6 seconds) must pass between when it hit and when the secondary is applied. I agree. One round has passed once that initiative number has come up again. |

| Erithmu03-18-07, 01:16 AM | Why didn't Myoxus cast Web in round 8 or 9? Just curious. Also, why didn't you list Reg's AC as improved by Inertial Armor and Force Screen That was a lot of saves...Didn't think about it... I figured that it was closer to end game, (I think Round 8 visibility was established after a 2x move, round 9 he might have been guessing location ... these are off the top of my head so they could be wrong.) I always list base AC and then list the spells that are in effect, This allows me to add as needed and not have to deal w/ recalculating AC all the time. It's the method I use, unless Kervan buffs fully his AC (see Druidic Circles: Sophia) EDIT: since you changed that middle line (my ninja skills are fast): There is no reason to not do this, It would probably allow you to get the other 2 brain locks off, But I don't think it would save you ... or it might ... he failed the last 3 pp on your brain lock ... will explore in the morning ... sleepy time now. |

EDIT: In a sec when I trim 1000 characters off Just a minor issue -- in both round 10 and round 11, you have Reg listed as having 16 pp even though he manifested in both rounds. However, if you replace Reg's 4 pp Vigor from memory in round 16 with an ML 2 Vigor manifested from Reg's power stone (which is what I asked for in my tactics), the ultimate result would stay the same. Thanks for your work on the fight. EDIT: Also, Reg's Political Career gives him +31% rewards (+20 Diplomacy, +11 K: Nobility), not +29%. That was a typo. |

As noted in Part One, you can crawl 5 feet while prone as a move action, or you can use a move action to stand up (either of these provokes an attack of opportunity from foes that threaten you). You also can tumble 5 feet without provoking an attack of opportunity (see Part One)." this of course can potentially cause a large diffrense in the fight as i get a lot more AOA's |
| templer1003-20-07, 08:55 AM | Second- You didnt have weapon taking out the powerstones after he runs out of PPS in round 9- doing that is a move action or part of a move action - but you cant do that while tumbling- also you need to take out powerstone every time since if you fail to concatrate on a powerstone is teh same as if failing to concatrate on a power- you lose the stone same as if you loset the pps. btw- it doesnt affect anything - but you didnt take into acoount on the rolles that the DC is 16 not 15 for manifesting on the defensive for level 1 power. EDIT- Also at round 13- weapon cant manifest an energy ray since he's out of PPS. weapon has 8 pps for the fight - he used 4 at round 2, 1 at round 5, 1 (or more) at round 8 (failing to manifest when manifesting on teh defensive still cost the ppps), 2 at round 9 (asuuming he still had 2 pps - and ending his pps) something else- in round 11- i should have hit on the AOA with a 21 against a touch ac of 19 (and btw as far as i know the only time you can attack on the defensive while doing touch spells/powers is reguler touch not ranged touch- but regradless if you can or cant- attacking defensivly is a full round action - so he cant do that at any time of the fight.) on another note- it does affect anything i can see but harbinger bonus to attacks is +7 not +12 the bonus mentioned for trip attacks if for the Strngth check not the attack roll. also it doesnt make a diffrence now (but can after fixing the tumble thing) harbinger bonus on trip is +12 not +8 (+4 str, +4 racial, +4 feat). |

Such fights involve either 3 or 4 PCs of equal level. All Characters must come from the same league but other than that, there is no guarantee that you won't end up in a FFA fight. Pitlords roll starting boxes for each PC individually, and no PC may end up in the same box as another PC. Rewards are based on the time of defeat: 1st gets Winner Rewards, plus 1 loser reward for every opponent 2nd gains Loser Rewards, plus 1 loser reward for every opponent -1. 3rd gains Loser Rewards, plus 1 loser reward for every opponent -2. 4th gains Loser Rewards only. (If only 3 persons involved, delete the '3rd' line.) if i calculate this right- winner gets 2000 xp/gp, second place gets 800 xp/gp third plave gets 400 xp/gp |

(you may wanna read the Courtroom house rule on the trip/overrun trip combo, it's acually there) as it takes a Move action to stand, tumble is considered a Move action used to avoid Aoo's.. I will let an Elder chime in on this.. didnt find anything in the court desicions about tumbling WHILE PRONE - he can do that as a move action - but not for half move- for 5 feet. about what you said about the PHB- the phb doesnt say anything about tumbling when you are prone- remmber that when prone you are very limited in you movement options- the rule about tumbling while prone as i said was cleared up in ROTG all about movement 4- "originally Posted by RoTG (All About Movement, part4) Tumbling While Crawling: Though the rules don't say so, there's no reason you can't can tumble 5 feet as a move action when prone. The check DC is 20". considering all i needed is to hit weapon once- every aoa matters. edit- what +6 dodge to AC she has? if you mean total defense - she didnt do that at any time- and an attack on the defensive gives +3 and isnt even possible considering she didnt attack with a weapon and that it's a full round action. p.s. you didnt answer about weapon being out of PPS at round 13. |

| UserNamer03-20-07, 03:31 PM | You have to be able to reach into his square to pick up the item. If you initiate a grapple at that point and he flees the square then you may pick something up in your square. my life depends on that wand, so I got to get it somehow, I could get it through a bullrush. |
| Macbrea03-20-07, 03:39 PM | I attempted a grapple twice, attempted to heal with one of your spell slots to give you more time. You took too much damage in the time it took to get back to the the spot that wand was in. I didn't just ignore the fact the wand was there. I know it is there. I am running both sides of the fight. I have to improvise each side of the fight evenly. At the point that you had burned through all of those charges I am left to figure out a different way to stop you from using the wand. The method presented was stand on it. This required you to come get it back. Improvisation can only be taken so far. I am kind of suprised NiQil didn't complain that I had him disarm the same wand from your character 14 times. Overall. that fight is run as close to the tactics as can be done. Anything more is making up random stuff to force the fight your way. Unless you have sufficent grounds to say that the fight wasn't run according to your tactics then the fight stands as written. |
| sonofzeal03-20-07, 04:21 PM | - I have 5 truestrike scrolls, there is no reason for me to go visible before grapping - I have 1 more invisiblity scroll, I could go invisible again - My opponent doesn't know where I am, how can he move away from me? Round 9: Fnorri moves up, and I move down, why??? round 13: grapple: 13 vs. touch ac 12, why do I miss? Please edit it, expecially round 13 is important if I'm right You have more truestrike scrolls, yes, but if he's moving then they're useless. On that note, he's not so much moving away from you as just circling. What, you expect him to sit still when there's an invisible guy on the prowl? Round 9, he moves down and you move over, I'm not sure what you're talking about. Round 13, he's under the effects of Reduce Person - +1 size to AC, +1 dex to AC. Both of those together bring his touch AC to 14. |
| Horatius03-20-07, 05:57 PM | @Sonofzeal: I think you handed out too much xp/gp to some losers - you can only gain a max of ECL x 100 xp with a loss. |

LOL I didn't even see that the fight was finished. So I guess I am only seeing the revised version, and not the first one. I am actually perfectly satisfied with the disarming. That's what I wanted to happen...I was trying to provoke as many AoO as possible. I just forgot about possibly being grapple (the one week I forget, someone uses it against me LOL). There may be some minor errors to nitpick, but nothing that would change the outcome as far as I can tell, so I'm set. Thanks for the run. |
| NiQil03-20-07, 09:30 PM | is done.. and can be seen here. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=11821617&postcount=683) I need some help figuring awards.. this was my first all vs all fight. can someone point me in the right direction.. My other Fight will be late.. do to getting sick.. (not a good excuse i know) but will be done before dead line tomorrow, unless someone has some free time and wants to pick it up (tactics are posted here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=11821382&postcount=681)) (i will check back here before i start anything.. So if you can do it just say so and go ahead) Yanno....I pitty whomever Tyden faces next week....he used 2 pp in his first fight and only 1 this fight....meaning he has 21 pp to blow out next week. |
| NiQil03-20-07, 09:34 PM | So....anyone wanna pick up the Truls/Graashnak fight? Tactics are posted in the battles thread already....I would really love to not have it held over...I didn't see anything in the roller sessions that it had been started, and it is after deadline, so it is fair game. Anyone wanna be a hero and take it over? |

Anyone wanna be a hero and take it over? just dont let it be harbi- hate bloody wilders and thier bloody high touch AC's - althrough with the sheer number of AoA's i get i hit eventually usually. btw- niqil- in our FFA fight- why were you gunning for me so hard lol- i was clearly the lowest threat there? |
| NiQil03-20-07, 09:55 PM | @ ToK: Yes, you are. @ templer: Yes...if you pick it up, PM Pitlords after you post the fight with a link to it and let him know that you ran the fight in place of the assigned pitlord. As for your other question....that's exactly why I wanted to gun you down...I figured I had a decent chance of dropping you with that single alpha strike, which would have guaranteed me second place. I just didn't count on Weapon coming so hard at me right off the bat. |
| Rauul03-20-07, 10:13 PM | is done.. and can be seen here. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=11821617&postcount=683) Done again.. awards are posted.. Enjoy.. Not gonna argue about what some crack monkey wrote in RoTG that break the spirit of the rules.. So argue in court room.. |
| templer1003-20-07, 10:16 PM | iam just starting the fight- maybe iam BLind - but on the city map - the balconies are the little 3X3 brown things? or the square things near the towers? |

| Zevox03-20-07, 11:22 PM | @ Rauul - So, any chance Arden vs Gundmir will be run in time? I'm kind of hoping to activate Arden next week, plus hes on a Guild errand, so I need to know the outcome of the fight to send appropriate Guild info this week. If you won't have time, would it be okay if anyone with the time picked it up and ran it? Zevox |

Didn't mean to slight ya at all...I just hadn't seen anything indicating whether the fight was going to be run or not, and since it is past deadline, any late fights are fair game to be picked up....and I *really didn't want it held over. However, if you are wanting to keep the credit, maybe you could take the fight that Rauul hasn't finished due to his network issues? Just a thought |
| Zevox03-20-07, 11:33 PM | @ Rauul - Okay then. @ Anyone else - If theres anyone available who wants to take over Arden vs Gundmir, the tactics are posted here. Its in the forest, but it should be fairly straightforward anyway, especially with the changes to the forest map. Zevox |

Thanks for the pickup. One thing to note....on a critical hit, you do not multiply the base roll...you roll each die individually. So instead of (1d6+5) x 2 + 1d8 as you have it, it should be (1d6+5) + (1d6+5) + 1d8. It's worth rolling that last d6, because it is still possible that Graashnak might still be standing with a low roll, in which case the fight should continue. |

| Tellish_of_Ket03-21-07, 02:12 AM | @ ToK: Yes, you are. Dang, was gonna challenge Tyden with his massive PP pool, but sadly you are ECL 4, and i am but a lowly ECL 3 ToK |
| NiQil03-21-07, 02:22 AM | Dang, was gonna challenge Tyden with his massive PP pool, but sadly you are ECL 4, and i am but a lowly ECL 3 ToK That's why the 21 pp is such a large amt....for an ECL 5-6, that isn't that great...but for the low level Tyden is at, that is huge. After spending 2 pp on buffs, I can either crank out 18 Wild Surged Crystal shards doing 3d6 per, or I can augment and crank out as much as 4 Wild Surged augmented up to 6d6 damage and still have a couple left over. Here's me praying to face someone with a low touch AC so I can see what the inside of their lungs look like (glances at Harbinger and that beautiful 11 touch AC)... |

| Abyssal Stalker03-21-07, 03:52 AM | I think there's a rule that prevents inter-league matches in the low levels. At higher levels, I think it should be OK, but in ECL3 and so we don't have: random maps, miniquests, etc. The limitations are probably in the quickstart guides. |

Zevox Update - I'm still not done the project after pulling an allnighter on it, and my energy is fading fast despite ingesting copious ammounts of caffine and sugar. Likelihood of me doing the fight before tomorrow is.... low. If anyone else can do it before the deadline, go ahead... if not, I'll have plenty of time tomorrow. Arden Tarmik (Zevox) vs. Gundmir Guldesdep (False_Keraptis) : [Forest] Here are the tactics (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=11821382&postcount=681) |
| Vathelokai03-21-07, 09:28 AM | can a lower level guy challenge a higher? If so, would i get a free prebuff round? ToK I managed to talk Cat into adding a line to the challenge rules: the two combatants can agree on any terms that they wish for the fight. You can get you'r prebuff, or you can both start prebuffed, or you can do it out of cycle and ignore the spell/fight caps. As long as you both agree to it. As for the inter-league stuff... I don't know of any rule against it. |

I'm invisible, so he has flatfooted+touch AC witch is 11 only, this should really change the fight. |

| sonofzeal03-21-07, 11:33 AM | I'm invisible, so he has flatfooted+touch AC witch is 11 only, this should really change the fight. At this point, I'm going to say that with you pounding up behind him, he had enough of an idea where you were to not be concidered flatfooted. I'll rerun it otherwise tomorrow if asked by an Elder, but certainly not today. |
| McJarvis03-21-07, 11:38 AM | At this point, I'm going to say that with you pounding up behind him, he had enough of an idea where you were to not be concidered flatfooted. I'll rerun it otherwise tomorrow if asked by an Elder, but certainly not today. Even if you know the square an invisible attacker is in(and this is all you can do with a successful listen check, as you're suggesting), the eventual attack from that attacker is vs your AC without dex. The invisible attacker gets a +2 on their attack as well, I _think_(though I certainly don't have reference material here with me at the moment...) |

The invisible attacker gets a +2 on their attack as well, I _think_(though I certainly don't have reference material here with me at the moment...) Yup, invisibility gives an attacker +2 to attacks. Unless the target has the Blindfight feat and the attack is a melee-type attack, anyway. Zevox |

I'll rerun it otherwise tomorrow if asked by an Elder, but certainly not today. An invisible attacker gets more than just +2 to attack. The other benefit is that the defender is denied their dex. Makes no difference if he's jumping up and down screaming and hollering and pin-pointed on sound. The only difference all the noise would make is if the defender readied to attack on pin-pointing. ToK |
| UserNamer03-21-07, 12:47 PM | sonofzeal, could you please edit the fight from where I miss, becouse with him losing his dex bonus, as McJarvis, Zevox and ToK are saying, makes this a hit. |

Sorry i was late..(6 server boots and my computer rebooting 2 times on me) but since Cat hasn't showed up i think you should be able to get the charaters for tomorrow.. Elder call? Eh, pardon, but I'm looking at the rolls and seeing that the second save for Arden vs that second Hold Person was a natural 20 (its listed under round 9, but since nothing is listed under round 10 and its the second save there its obviously the round 10 one). How does that fail? Looks to me like he shrugs off the second hold and we should be moving to Gundmir's melee strategy, which gives Arden very good chances to win this. Since this is late anyway and we won't be able to activate our characters this week, could you please edit for this? Zevox |

| Zevox03-21-07, 11:19 PM | it didn't fail, but it's a full round action under hold person spell, your unparalized at the end of the round..even if you made the save Um, a full round action means I unparalyze at the end of my turn in the round, not the end of the round as a whole. You're thinking of a 1 round action. They're not the same - a full round action just takes all the time a character has in the round for anything but free/swift/immediate actions; a 1 round action takes the entire round, including your opponent's turn. If Arden made his save, Gundmir can't CDG him that round, and the fight goes on. Zevox |

If Arden made his save, Gundmir can't CDG him that round, and the fight goes on. Zevox A full-round action requires an entire round to complete. Thus, it can’t be coupled with a standard or a move action Websters Dictionary: Entire = Whole |
| Zevox03-21-07, 11:29 PM | Websters Dictionary: Entire = Whole As NiQil said, I'm correct. The full round action takes the entirety/whole time of my turn in the round, and none of my opponent's. If it were otherwise, then when a character started adjacent to his foe and made a full attack (a full round action), and then his opponent withdrew, he couldn't complete the full attack, which clearly isn't the case. The fight goes on. Zevox |
| Vathelokai03-22-07, 12:40 AM | A lot of folks get the lengths of rounds confused; I think because of the summoning stuff (a more common 1 round action), where the summons appears at the start of your next round. Think of it more like a full attack; it's a full round action that finishes before the end of your turn. You can even take a 5 ft step afterwards. meeen- 130+ rounds that got to suck- nobody was getting 20's or something? law of avrages say you should have gotten 5-6 of them lol. They got all their twenties; but they were on the spot/listen/hide/move front, and on the confirm a crit rolls. But regular attacks? Zwei fired like 90 times and only hit once. |

Ok fixed... Everyone is either Blind, out of spells and PP's... great fight Woah, what?? Wait a second here, nothing that happened there was in Gundmir's tactics! He didn't ask to use Blindness, command, or summon anything, just dismount, enlarge, and melee! Plus, even if you ignore Gundmir's tactics totally and have him do all of that, some of his hits should not hit. Round 16, when Arden stands, Gundmir's AoO only hits AC 19, but Arden's is 22 (10+2dex+8armor+4shield+2insight-4prone). He doesn't lose his dex to AC like you said in there, and even if he did his AC would be 20, and so it would still miss. That right there is 15 damage, his vigor's worth of hp, that he doesn't lose. Gundmir's round 8 attack hit only an AC of 25, but Arden's should be 28 (as above but w/o the -4 prone and +2 for combat expertise), so that should miss too. Thats another 20 hp Arden should have. The only hit of Gundmir's that actually hit is the last one, which was a natural 20. And I also asked to have Arden always using combat expertise, but you didn't have him start until round 19? Why? Oh, and you have the duration on my powerstones wrong. They're all ML 2, so they last 20 rounds (didn't matter with skate, but will likely matter with the Force Screen and Synsthete since this should go beyond round 21). Please Rauul, I understand these types of things can take a lot of time, but could you edit it so that these errors are taken care of? If you don't have time, would you consent to agreeing with me when I PM Cat to ask that it be held over so it can be taken care by someone else? I'd really like to see this done right, especially since Arden is on an errand for his Guild and they get benefits if he wins this. Zevox |
| sonofzeal03-22-07, 02:27 PM | sonofzeal, could you please edit the fight from where I miss, becouse with him losing his dex bonus, as McJarvis, Zevox and ToK are saying, makes this a hit. I'll get this taken care of ASAP. My apologies for not getting it done earlier, but the last couple days have been brutal for me. (edit - Done, and here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=11833820&postcount=686). The last couple rounds are crazy.) |

Thanks, but the grapple should have been succes, becouse I'm invisible, so I don't provoke AoO(how could I?). |
| Zevox03-24-07, 07:05 PM | Woah, what?? Zevox @ Rauul - Sorry to be a bother, but do you intend to make the corrections for this? I'm only asking since its been a couple of days since you last said anything on it and no changes are evident in the fight or the roller, and when you did comment it seemed you thought the changes would be minor, which it doesn't seem to me they are. Again, sorry to be a bother, but I really feel Arden can win this with the corrections made to the fight, so I've been a bit worried since I've heard so little (and since Cat already has the fight logged as done, as has been absent long enough not to know theres still issues with it). Zevox It's fixed, it's done, as of now... As for the Spells used... all were used.. as both are at end of thier cycle.. |
| Zevox03-25-07, 11:10 AM | It's fixed, it's done, as of now... As for the Spells used... all were used.. as both are at end of thier cycle.. All right then. Theres still one hit in there that should've missed, but it was one of Gundmir's, so it won't change the fight. For the record, I still disagree with using spells he didn't ask to use (and some of which in fact he mentioned converting to healing) when his tactics were still fine and viable, but its not worth arguing much about. Thanks a lot for putting up with the complaints and doing all these edits! I truly appreciate it! :) Zevox |
| Zevox03-25-07, 11:25 AM | @ Rauul - Wait, sorry, there is one thing that needs editing: the rewards. Gundmir had an ally to take into account, and Arden was given rewards for ECL 4 for some reason. Arden should get 1500*1.083 = 1624 xp and 1600*1.083 = 1732 gp, and Gundmir should get 500*.916 = 458 xp and 533*.916 = 488 gp. Edit: Oh, and he didn't use two powerstones of force screen. One of those should be a powerstone of skate. Zevox |
| Horatius03-25-07, 02:23 PM | Qwogi vs Mithos is up. |
| Zevox03-25-07, 02:55 PM | Qwogi vs Mithos is up. Heh, you posted in the wrong FotW thread. Anyway, looks like theres a couple of errors in the fight, but nothing that'll save Mithos with those rolls. If those coordinates are close to correct (can't be completely correct, else Qwogi would be inside the wall), Mithos would auto-spot Qwogi, so the first ray wouldn't be a sneak attack. The 5 additional hp won't help against that crit ray the next round though. I'm not quite sure I agree with your decision to have Regal retreat from Qwogi, though. My tactics did explicitly state to have him stay and make noise so Mithos and Noble could find him easily. Meh, that won't make a difference either though. Guess I can chalk this one up to bad dice. If that second ray hadn't crit, I might've been able to pull this off. Oh well, thanks for running it! Zevox |
| Eluria03-25-07, 02:59 PM | Yes Horatius, thanks for running the fight. Obviously I have no complaints :) - lucky dice are always fun. Sorry Z |
| TheMagister03-25-07, 06:55 PM | How many lucky fights for Qwogi does this make? I remember two pretty lucky fights that I ran (and one not-so-lucky in the forest). TM |
| Eluria03-25-07, 07:05 PM | How many lucky fights for Qwogi does this make? I remember two pretty lucky fights that I ran (and one not-so-lucky in the forest). TM I figure it's better for him to get lucky now, while he is totally sub-optimal, and then once he starts gaining arcane trickster levels, the luck can start running out as the inherent power increases. I'm not complaining. |

I'm not complaining. Yeah, it's an exponential decrease in luck as levels increase. (Overall Character Effectiveness)^(Player Skill in Tactics Writing) > a 1-20 variable. Good builds and competent players make their own luck. TM |

Good builds and competent players make their own luck. TM Then how do you explain Truls Rohk? He is probably sub-optimal, he has an average player.....and yet he is a soulknife who is 5-1. Let me repeat that....the SOULKNIFE...generally acknowledged as one of the weaker base classes in existance....is 5-1. Having said this, he will probably drop his next 6 in a row.... |

Having said this, he will probably drop his next 6 in a row.... while soulknife is inherently a bad class- you made something fairly decent out of it since soulknife as a ranged attacker isnt half bad- btw i wonder can you do rapid shot with mindblades when you can manifest them as free action? also- you won that last fight pure and total luck lol- max dmg crit at round 2 geez |
| NiQil03-25-07, 08:10 PM | Soulknifes don't gain the ability to throw more than one mindblade per round until 17th level.... |
| templer1003-25-07, 08:14 PM | Soulknifes don't gain the ability to throw more than one mindblade per round until 17th level.... free Draw (Su) At 5th level, a soulknife becomes able to materialize his mind blade as a free action instead of a move action. He can make only one attempt to materialize the mind blade per round, however. so at least once per 2 rounds you can rapid shot mindblades at level 5- prebuff a mndblade- first attack round - shot, manifest as free shot. EDIt - actually since manifesting is a free action and not swift you can rapid shot all the time. |

If what you say were true, this ability would be redundant: Multiple Throw (Ex): At 17th level and higher, a soulknife can throw a number of mind blades per round equal to the number of melee attacks he could make. Zevox |
| templer1003-25-07, 08:31 PM | If what you say were true, this ability would be redundant: Zevox no it wont- since at level 17 he can do ALL the attacks his BaB lets him as ranged- normally soulknife at 17 has +12/7/2 so at 17 he could throw 3 mindblades per round or if he has rapid shot- 4 mindblades at 10/10/5/0. before level 17 he could only throw 1 mindblade or 2 if he has rapid shot feat. |

| templer1003-25-07, 08:51 PM | I agree with templer10. It certainly appears that way when you read it all. TM now when to stop on soulknife is another good question i would say- stop at level 6 and then go with some PRC or class that gives you manifesting potential - then you can throw 2 mindbaldes per round with a +1 enchntments - if you pick keen you have a very nice possilibity for crits. |

| UserNamer03-27-07, 09:31 AM | Sonofzeal, could you please also take a look at my fight vs. Fnorri. I didn't fight this week, wating for that fight to be finished. The thing is, he shouldn't have gotten an AoO becouse I was invisible, so the grapple should continue, that's the only thing you need to run, the grapple. |
