Deadline for this week is up in about 40 minutes.

Post any comments or concerned for this weeks fights in this thread, be aware of the Rules of Gladius, be kind and courteous to your fellow posters, don't feed the pitlords, and above all, have fun!

I posted a character yesterday, but I didn't PM anybody about my new character (i.e the Pitlords account). It's not on the list. Should I have PMed the Pitlords?

Couldn't hurt. Do it now and you may get into this week's parrings. If memory serves he usually does the higher ECL leagues first and works down the list.

Yeah, welcome to Gladius. There are definitely a lot of rules, especially when making your first character.

From the Rules of Gladius:

I'm done with my character. What now?

Post him or her on the Gladiators thread and send the Pitlords a PM with the link to your character sheet. This will help ensure that your character does not get accidently overlooked and added to the Roster. Next, decide what you want him or her to do. If you want your character to fight in the Arena, edit the title line to read "Ready for <date>", where <date> is the next Wednesday. If you want him or her to go on a Quest, send a quest request to Pitlords. If you want to go on a Campaign, you have to apply to the Campaignlord.

PAIRINGS DONE

Credits will be assigned tomorow.

Please note that those with an incorrect title line have not been paired and won't be paired. It uses up a lot of extra time to pair gladiators retroactively because it mixes up the whole pairings.

There will be soon new secondary traits for structures thanks to SauroGrenom. The new values are balanced so that every guild has the same chances.

There's also a little new rule, a good one: if your fight is extended, you can use the extended week for a Full Activity. PM me if you want to do that. That way you can regain the lost week.

This week's Random Event was auto-picked to help the struggling EYE on their feet.

Wands, Staffs, Crowns, Dorjes, and any other item with charges is now limited to your ECL like all expendables. You may pay 5° per CL above your ECL.

Good luck everyone!

Yeah, welcome back to Gladius. There are definitely a lot of rules, especially when making your first character.

Fixed. :P

And I seem to have missed that part in the Rules. Well, I sent off a PM a while ago, so I can only hope. I can wait a week, though.

03-08-06, 06:51 PM
Ah.. hope it's not too late, I had my character (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=5546453&postcount=219) readied for this week, but probably due to the fact the URL on his name is wrong in the Characters post (not sure if this was my fault if I PMd it wrong) he wasn't paired.

If there's anyone else who is in a similar situation who wouldn't mind fighting this week, could I get in one?

Karen Douglas hasnt been paired although her title line is abolutely correct as far as I can tell.

03-08-06, 06:53 PM
Korinel (Argaud) vs. Dronnar Darkjof (DSugui) : DSugui
Flashback! :)

This battle took place last week already. And... DSugui would be pitlording a fight with one of his characters... and Korinel is level 4 (although I am not surprised you guys missed that, since the fight that gave him the 4th level was edited 2 hours before the deadline).

Anyway, probably this needs to be corrected :)

Logan wasn't put on the roster, which is probably my fault (I think I forgot to put the date down), but it's a really easy fix since he's going to be on an MQ this week; no shuffling of pairings.

There's also a little new rule, a good one: if your fight is extended, you can use the extended week for a Full Activity. PM me if you want to do that. That way you can regain the lost week.

This apply also to extended quest? Example: I have a character on Week4 of a 3 weeks quest. May I use this week for a Full Activity? Even a Free Activity?

Thanks

Gray (Gonbow) & Sir Alboreth (Zevox) miniquest to assist the TAO: Waywreth [Miniquest]
- Your mini-quest will be up either late tonight or early tomorrow. It will be ECL4 unless I hear otherwise.

QL Waywreth: (none) Ignatius (Erithmu) also joins the TAO superquest [Week 1]
- Your quest is up, am holding off on making the first post until I get approval from Scriblords about my submission. If I don't see it, I'll post tomorrow and we can get going. The encounters are pretty straightforward anyway.

@nickbeat and DTFarstar: tactics for Sunstroke and Aerryl, respectively, have been PM'ed.

@Mitza and Pitbull: Apparently I am taking up the reins on your holdover. The setup is here and I will be running it shortly. As I understand it, a re-run is a re-run, and I start over from the beginning despite the presence of rounds 1-9. I'll also be using my interpretation of the tactics, which differ slightly from Stormwind's.

We're not in the state of emergency anymore. However, we're still only having one free character, and if your subject line is not completely correct you will not be paired. I'm not quite sure what Tan's is right now or what is correct but I will go with instincts and tell you that if you want to ready for a fight you should say:

Ready 8 March 2006, Guarding

or whatever free action you wish to have.

@Anyone - Am I blind, or are we still in the SOE? Did Tan get Paired? Doen't look like it

I think the problem is your subject line:
"ready 1/7 (ECL +/- 1) Defending Home"

This week's pairing were done on March 8th (which would be some variation on 3/8/2006, depending on your continent of origin, not 1/7).

Why...so it does. I checked, though, and those are definitely the right tactics.

Even though you will probably hate my tactics, originally this character was going to use a mithral tower shield and take cover constantly while moving really fast. At some point I realized how annoying that would be (maybe after I ran my first fight :D ).
Of course both of us can melee, but I'd hate to imagine running a tower v. tower shield fight.

If all of your Allies have an ECL (ECL=LA+HD), then you should simply add their ECLs together. The result must be at least 2 less than your own ECL. Aaand, we have a rules conflict. These two rules directly contradict each other. I'm PMing Pitlords to address this. Vath, you may want to give Cat a chance to give you a ruling.

In other news, the 3-week old fight between Sliver Firebug and Boraxx the pig-rider is finally up. The results were predictable. The lesson my players learned is, don't assume your opponent will use an ability that you think is obvious. The lesson I learned is, I hate invisible pet-droppers.

He probably can, from the diplomacy allies section:

The following is a list of legal Diplomacy allies, as well as the diplomacy bonus needed. These allies always use their CR to determine the maxCA. Please read FAQ: Allies I on requirements to obtain such an ally. Note that this list does not include advanced versions which are also available. ...
...
+19 DIP: White Dragon, young (medium dragon) [CR 4]

So it is a CR 4 ally. I can't say how the various formulas (CA = sum(Aecli+Acri)) and maximum CA and such work out, but reading through the formulas I think he can bring the dragon.

Although extreme, your example is correct. Lord Frost could do exactly that if he had the necessary diplomacy skill.

Of course he could take a heavy warhorse in instead of the 9HD, CR4 white dragon... which just goes to show the CR on dragons is lower than it probably should be.

If it is broken, it needs fixing.

In the context of the CoCo the disparity between ECL and CR is becoming pretty obvious even for a newbie like me, and probably should be addressed in its own thread.

Yeah. I mean, take a look at what Balbanes was able to bring along on the ECL 8 miniquest I ran last week. 1 9HD young white dragon, 1 9HD Griffon, and 2 elite array chokers, I believe each with 10HD, though I'd have to go back to get the exact number. Challenging that, and not completely outclassing Balbanes himself would've been nearly impossible.

The main offender are the character vs. monster fights. I am going to check them out, but I will be surprised if the characters win 1 in 4 of those. Many of the monsters are pretty much invincible for most characters of their ECL, and the situation is made worse because most often the character has no idea of what he or she is facing.

I have a monster fight this week (which, by the way, 7 hours to tactics deadline, I still have no idea of the size, shape of number of monsters Korinel has to face) and for what I see in the CR4 encounter tables, a fair number of the battles are impossible (locust swarm, anyone?) and others ridiculously hard (wereboar? Young white dragon (stronger than level 9 leaguer Lord Frost)?). And I suspect things get worse the higher the level :(

Let's look at this... (and I'm not picking on Balbanes either, just using him because he's a good example).

Dragon - CR4
Griffon - CR4
Choker - CR5
Choker - CR5
Elemental - CR5

Your Ally's CR must be 4 lower than your ECL.
This means at 9th level he could've brought in any ONE of those allies. Not all of them. EDIT: See Zevox's post below for better math than mine.

That's because the CR is balanced against a party of people, not just 1 gladiator. Sure, a party of 4th level characters might be able to take out a young white dragon. It'd be a tough fight, I'd assume, but not impossible.

1 gladiator against one. Well, if the dragon is run intelligently, and you're not a master at tactics...you're screwed. Even more so because you don't know what you're going to be fighting.

Actually, as an ECL9 character Balbanes can bring in up to 7 CA (Coefficient of Allies) of allies, provided they meet the requirement of his ECL-2 for ECL allies or his ECL-4 for CR allies. So the penalty for bringing in one of the CR4 allies is (4/7)*25=14.28%, or for the CR5 allies (5/7)*25=17.85%. As Waywreth said, if those Chokers are actually CR6 due to Elite Array, he cannot bring them in due to thier not meeting the requirement of being 4 less CR than his ECL, and until ECL10 he cannot bring more than one CR4 or 5 ally in since he is limited to 7 CA of allies at ECL9.

Edit: Having looked it up, it seems CR5 is correct for the Chokers. As Aberrations they advance 1 CR per 4 HD added. Each is 12HD, and a basic Choker is 3 HD, so Balbanes added 9 HD to them, giving them +2CR from the base of 2, putting them at 4. Add one more for Elite Array and you end up with a CR of 5.

Still, he brought all 4 allies with on the MQ. By that calculation, he should've only been able to bring 1 of the allies with him, as any combination there would make his Ally Coefficient go above 7.

Well, that would've changed things a LOT in the challenge of that Miniquest, wouldn't it have?

Did (or do - I'm not to familiar with advancing monsters) you apply the "Size increased to Large or larger = +1 to CR"?

No, but thats because they only increase size from small to medium, not to large. So no CR increase from the size increase I'm afraid.

As far as MQs, Quests and Campaigns go, I've always allowed players to bring any number of allies with them. It allows players to have some fun with it. The greatest example of this was for Ceres, who used a pegasus at EL7 in my campaign. Perfectly acceptable.

My CR4 dragon has base stats of 11 and 10 and no equipment. In a duel Lord Frost would beat my dragon's tail. Or at least he should. However, if Cat changed his mind I'd accept that as well.

ooooo, :: Blinks eyes innocently ::

Well, in truth. Frost is only a CR 3... possibly a CR 4 if you consider he has an elite statistics array.
He has a better than elite array, plus the gear of a level 9 character. If he was to show up as an enemy in a tabletop game, I'd say he is at least CR5, he is a tough little lizard :)

But I doubt there are many ECL5 characters able to fight him alone, even in CoCo. Maybe a wizard optimized with fire spells, some cold protection and very high touch AC could do it. It would have to be a very specialized build, though.

I guess...it's just that having that many allies makes a joke of just about any opponent in the correct ECL range.

Now maybe an Efreeti wasn't the best choice for a monster to fight against...but come on. 2 (effective) rounds of Manyshots by the chokers, in 1 round, plus a breath weapon from the white dragon, plus a charging, grapple attempt by the griffon? I'll have to look over ECL 8 monsters again, and see if I could come up with something to survive that.

Well, it was a full compliment of allies. He should only be allowed to bring one in his menagarie, not all of them anyways.

A Flesh Golem could of survived a little longer. Adamantine DR helps a little. Oozes makes archery pointless. Gorgon with its breath attack.

Sometimes, making a small map and having the gladiator and allies crowd it out makes all the differnce.

Corrected the cost of the tattoos and potions. Although for what I have seen most players have not paid the costs of tattoos with personal powers at doble normal value (and they are the most useful - lots of characters have Vigor tattoos).

Mind you, it seems silly that potions of enlarge person need mandatorily to be purchased at level 5, instead of 1.

Projectiles deal damage based on the size of the weapon they are launched from. Thus, enlarged bows do more damage, wheras enlarged throwing axes does not. Fair? No. Useful? Yes. Diminutized throwers do very silly amounts of damage, as do huge archers. Different strokes for different folks.

Thanks for running. I knew that would be boring but it would have been stupid to melee on my part.
You are completely right about the encumbrance, I've read that 20 times and it must not go into long term memory. That section is really clear, too.

@Anaconda
I figure you are saving for a mwk large mighty bow, but a large sling would cost 0 gp (2 sp for ammunition) and do 1d6+4. Even if you are saving for something better, that's pretty hard to pass up.

You also might consider a Tanglefoot Bag or 5. I know they are expensive, but 6 of them costs the same as Invis/Bull's Str. [Or put ranks in Craft (Alchemy) :) ]
If you goo your opponent, then trip them, then disarm their slashing weapons, they won't be able to get up (other than through STR).

The other (popular) option is a Tattoo of Skate for 100 gp.

Galagith vs Grik (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8659364&postcount=356) is finsihed.

@ Pittbull: You will need to adjust the fight some.

In round 3, Galagith misses a trip attempt. Either Grik gets a free attempt to trip Galagith there, or Galagith has to drop his guisarme to avoid that return trip attempt. If the guisarme is dropped, this seriously alters the fight. If the trip is successful, this also could alter the fight.

In round 5, Grik is prone, and attempts to stand, causing an AoO. Galagith cannot trip in an AoO in this situation because Grik is already prone, and the AoO occurs before Grik makes it to his feet. He can attack for damage only in that situation. This will mean that Grik will make it to his feet on his original move action, since the attack for damage will not prevent him from standing, and will provide him with an attack in that round.

See BALBANES VS. SAMUEL HIGHGROUND

I can smell the compliants already...

First things first.... Balbanes CANNOT bring in a young white dragon.

Here is why:

Maximum CA: The maximum CA a gladiator may bring into each fight is equal to his ECL-2, and no individual ally may have an Aecl>ECL-2 or an Acr>max(ECL-4,1).

Explanation: What does Aecl>ECL-2 mean?
If all of your Allies have an ECL (ECL=LA+HD), then you should simply add their ECLs together. The result must be at least 2 less than your own ECL. So, for example, our ECL 10 cleric could have a single ECL 8 cohort, or two ECL 3 and one ECL 2 ally, or any other combination adding up to 8 (his ECL-2). That is meant by Aecl>ECL-2.

Explanation: What does Acr>max(ECL-4,1) mean?
If your Allies do not have a LA, then you need to use their CR to calculate your ally limit. Your Ally's CR must be 4 lower than your ECL. This rule does not count for allies of CR 1 or lower. That is meant by Acr>max(ECL-4,1).

Now Aecl is for a creature that has LA+HD. Acr is for creature that have no LA (i.e a horse). A young white dragon has 9HD and +3 LA for being young, for a total of 12. Balbanes cannot use this dragon till level 14, so Samuel's tactics are correct.

This is a major error and should be corrected.

This was discussed before. Look under the rules for diplomacy allies and you'll find the note that they always use CR rather than ECL. So he can bring the Dragon in.

On the other hand, the penalty for doing so is incorrect. The Dragon is CR 4, so Balbanes should lose (and Sammuel gain) (4/7)*25 = 14.28% xp and gp, not 6.25%.

This thing with diplomacy allies is bad. That way, diplomacy allies totally outclass Leadership Allies (or to some point Mercs). ... Basicly anything where you are allowed to take CR instead of ECL.
If at least NPC allies would all bring their own equipment (what would reduce the great diffrence between CR and ECL of most creatures at least a bit).

Of cause, this all get's much meaner, when it comes to dragons. The discription of CR is wrong, it should be "A Creature of CR X is a good Challenge for a 4 character group of level X, not threatening them and using only few of their ressources. ... Except for the true dragons, they are much more dangerous at the same CR because dragons are cooler."

Note, that this is meant to harm players. But now, the first player here has taken an advantage of this ... evil!

(But why do I complain, Noko has skilled diplomacy, too. And a good Charisma. :)

PS: But about the fight: Isn't the Breath weapon, allthrough it is SU-enough to harm the ghost still a corporeal attack, and therefor subject to 50% miss chance?
Even when hit by spells or magic weapons, it has a 50% chance to ignore any damage from a corporeal source (except for positive energy, negative energy, force effects such as magic missile, or attacks made with ghost touch weapons).

But he cannot have both the chocker and the dragon.

His chocker is CR 5, since it uses elite array and has 12 HD and became medium. The dragon has CR 4. So in total, that's a Ca of 9.

As in my post above: His CA cannot exceed ECL -2, which in Balbanes case would be 7.

My point is... that an ECL 9 has a dragon ally that is 9HD and has 76 hp, and a chocker ally that has 12 HD and 100 hp? So I think that from the rules he should only get one of those allies.

True. Which is why I left the choker out of the fight.

I think everyone thinks the that the 'diplomacy allies always use CR' is obviously broken; but it is the current rule, and even lonewolf said to go ahead with it.

He tried it once and it didn't work. To my mind, without spellcraft, it is impossible to tell if it was from a prot. spell or a successfull save (which would stop him for the whole day).

This reminds me; the two banes of ghosts are prot. spells and truestrike. Why dosn't every arena ghost have 1 rank in spellcraft just so they don't have to have tactics that say "if he casts something without an obvious effect, hide in case it's truestrike"?

This reminds me; the two banes of ghosts are prot. spells and truestrike. Why dosn't every arena ghost have 1 rank in spellcraft just so they don't have to have tactics that say "if he casts something without an obvious effect, hide in case it's truestrike"?

Heh. Good point about Spellcraft. Poor Kara will have to take Psicraft when she levels up.

Truestrike doesn't ignore the miss change against ghosties, as it isn't concealment.

What is surprising, is that both ghosts have the same powers from the list.

What is surprising, is that both ghosts have the same powers from the list.

Not so suprising for me.
Corrupting touch is very weak.
Frigthful Moan makes enemies panicked, which doesnt help much in the arena.
Horrific appearance only works once a combat for a bit ability damage.

that leaves 4 interesting abilities:

Corrupting Gaze(pros: passive ranged attack with ability damage)
Draining Touch(pros: versatility and good in conjunction with corrupting gaze)
Malevolence(pros: Save or die with a good DC. Con: easily gained immunity with Protection magic)
Telekinesis(Pro: Strong and good versatility. Con: no real synergy with the other powers)

So the choice is IMHO clearly either:
Corrupting Gaze, Draining Touch and Malevolence
or
Corrupting Gaze, Draining Touch and Telekinesis

I think that Drac vs Fjord is complete.

http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8671707&postcount=365

Couple of questions,

1: I forgot if I am supposed to continue the fight until the combatant is technically dead (-10 hp), or if unconscious (-5 per se) is sufficient defeat.

2: Someone please tell me what the AoO rules are for delivering a touch spell. Tactics mentioned tumbling to avoid AoO but the skill description only included an option for tumbling through an enemy square.

Keep in mind even if max damage is rolled, anything short of a critical on the AoO will not be enough to change the result.

1: I forgot if I am supposed to continue the fight until the combatant is technically dead (-10 hp)
Nope, just until they're dying or give up. The only exceptions are if they have the Diehard feat and can continue fighting with negative hp, or if something wierd happens and both hit negative hps at the same time, in which case you need to roll for stabilization to see if one dies first (I've actually had that happen to me once).

2: Someone please tell me what the AoO rules are for delivering a touch spell. Tactics mentioned tumbling to avoid AoO but the skill description only included an option for tumbling through an enemy square.
Well, for the first question, you can deliver a touch spell on an AoO if you're already holding the charge. For the tumbling question, look at the skill description again. It says quite clearly that its a DC 15 check to tumble at half-speed as part of a movement, provoking no AoOs in doing so, while moving through an enemy space is a seperate option that is DC 25 for otherwise the same effect.

A couple of things to note:

1. To use Dispel Psionics, he needs to make a ML check of DC6.
2. After Enervating himself, he can take no actions at all until the end of his next turn
3. Props on Round 4 buffs.
4. Crappy rolls are no good.
5. I would've liked a PM regarding my disregard for the Coefficient of allies. I was thinking I needed to keep it below EL-2, which a CR4+5 would. It doesn't matter now anyways.
6. Sam needs to draw his powerstone before readying it. So Round 9 should be somewhat different.
7. Balbanes can flurry with his magical fists. Something to do at least while I do not have my guisarme.

I see the problem here Uther.

CR 4 + 5 is a CA of 9, not an EL of 7.

The formula for allies:

CA = coefficient of allies
Aecli = ECL of the i'th Ally (0 if LA is '-')
Acri = CR of the i'th Ally (0 if LA is not '-')

CA = sum(Aecli+Acri)

Maximum CA: The maximum CA a gladiator may bring into each fight is equal to his ECL-2, and no individual ally may have an Aecl>ECL-2 or an Acr>max(ECL-4,1).

Wow. I'm amazed - Featylec (yeah, I know his name's hard to spell - comes from being a hodgepodge of Quenya Elvish words) actually didn't use up all my luck beating Finrod last week! That invisibility could have screwed me up bad (I didn't think he'd use it because he outclassed me in speed and grappling already - nice call on the adaptation btw), but those rolls kicked in at just the right times. Failed Command save, nice damage on the inflict and spiritual weapon hits - just what Aldyrr needed.

Only problem I see, is that since Annix is Chaotic he can not cast Lawful spells which means no lawful snake can be summoned. He could summon a Celestial bison, Fiendish boar, Fiendish Dire Bat or a Huge Fiendish Monstrous Centipede as a neutral summons to bypass the Chaotic Protection.

Edit: Annix can't cast any summons that can bypass Protection from Chaos.

Chaotic, Evil, Good, and Lawful Spells

A cleric can’t cast spells of an alignment opposed to his own or his deity’s (if he has one). Spells associated with particular alignments are indicated by the chaos, evil, good, and law descriptors in their spell descriptions.

Hmm... looks like you're right. I didn't think that the spell became the alignment of the creature summoned, but it does. Oh well, since the snake never actually did anything and thus changing it wouldn't change the outcome, its not worth the time it'd take to edit it in.

Edit:

How so? As you had said, he can still summon NG, N, or NE creatures to bypass the protection. Lawful spells are prohibited to him since law is opposed to chaos, but since he is neither good nor evil neither of those alignments are prohibited to him.

Because if you look at the description of the protection spells, they don't say that only lawful/chaotic/good/evil creatures (depending on the spell) are barred, they say the reverse--that only lawful/chaotic/good/evil creatures (depending on the spell) can ignore the protection spell. That is, -only- good creatures can ignore a Protection from Evil spell, -only- lawful creatures can ignore a Protection from Chaos spell, and so on.

Meaning neutral creatures really really suck for bypassing things like that.

You already got right reply, I would only add that to do AoO the foe should threat with a weapon, if without weapon he can't do AoO even if the toucher is in his square.

Also the victim is summoning, summon is full round action, so I think (and please someone confirm this) that he can't do AoO even if holding weapon because is busy with the spell.

Looks okay. I have to write much, much more detailed tactics. After that lion (damn nat. 20), one false life could have brought me back. (Not to speak of other thinks, like simply placing a big, prtable wall between Zassl and the greatest harm) ... But I guess, my opponent had also adjusted his tactics in the situation.

About the summoned snake: Yes, it needs a lawful creature - but where does it say, that a chaotic caster cant cast lawful spells?

Minor thing, (does not need fixing): Oh, looks, like I did not know the exact rules of splash weapons, too. But just because Eric throws the fire mistakenly into Ossf's square, it's still no direct hit

This came up last week for the Ajora/Gundir vs Leif/Shaz team fight, if you recall. Its actually only Protection from Evil that says that. Protection from Chaos/Law/Good all say:

This spell functions like protection from evil, except that the deflection and resistance bonuses apply to attacks from chaotic, and chaotic summoned creatures cannot touch the subject.
So strange as it may seem, Protection from Evil works on neutrally-aligned creatures, but none of the other Protection spells do.

About the summoned snake: Yes, it needs a lawful creature - but where does it say, that a chaotic caster cant cast lawful spells?
Thats a Cleric restriction - Luni quoted it above. Clerics cannot cast spells of an alignment opposed to thier deity's alignment or, if they don't have one, opposed to thier alignment. Since summoning spells become the alignment of the creature they summon, he shouldn't be able to lawful creatures.

Minor thing, (does not need fixing): Oh, looks, like I did not know the exact rules of splash weapons, too. But just because Eric throws the fire mistakenly into Ossf's square, it's still no direct hit
Hmm.... can't seem to find anything that says one way or the other about this. I figured it would, since he had target a creature (thus the center of a space) rather than an intersection, but you may be right. *shrugs* Like you said, not a major point of the fight though.

Fjord is summoing when the hawk enters his space, the spell takes 1 round to cast, he must continue the concentration from the current round to just before his turn in the next round. If he lose concentration before the casting is complete, he lose the spell. I think he can't do AoO.

Also the Hawk could tumble with 60% of success (9+ on d20).

Also Fjord could hit only with 5% of success (20 on d20).

1) Missed that. He just barely makes it with a (1d20+2=)7 vs dc6 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=385724)
2) Oops. Read that wrong. But since he was hiding in the floor buffing it's not that big.
3-4) That was rough. I couldn't believe that rolling.
5) I didn't realize that allies were off until a couple rounds into running the fight. I appologize for not PMing, but that was the only time I had set aside to run the fight, so I rushed it.
6) Sam has both powerstones in hand at the setup, and carries it up to round 9.
7) The decision in round 14-18 to use the ranged weapon was to avoid the the gaze/touch combo that was doing lots of damage. It seemed a reasonable improve based on the tactics for the choker.
8) Here's a point 8 that I noticed. I didn't reroll the misschance the one time Balbanes did crit. Which brings me to a question: The luck domain power says that you can " reroll one roll that you have just made before the DM declares whether the roll results in success or failure." How can we use that in a fight? The way it is written, if you are playing tabletop, then you can look at the die and if you know the mods you will know if it hit before the DM declairs success or fail anyway. In CoCo, we know what the DCs and ACs are before we roll. Should the luck domain be allowed as a free reroll? It dosn't change the fight (bookkeeping error on chr. damage in round 15 means Balb. actuall went down in round 29), but it is interesting.

03-12-06, 03:05 PM

Round3: Galagith missed only the touch-attack, that doesn't give Grik the option to turn the trip the other way. Only if you fail in the str-test it happens that the attacker can be tripped or be forced to drop the weapon.

Round5: If you stand up, you're not considered prone anymore, I believe. I think the AoO occurs during standing up. We have used the way of ruling for a very long time, are you really sure, about your comment?

Round 3 you are correct. Round 5 you are not, for this reason: when an AoO happens, it happens before the action which triggers it. If Grik standing up provokes an AoO, he is still prone when the AoO happens, so he has a lower AC but cannot be tripped on the AoO.

It was a long fight for 3 of the characters and a very short one for the 4th.

Something that will be equaly as fun is the fact that Ajora brought a horse and shaz brought an elemental. Which would change the rewards.

Round5: Galagith's attacks misses, so Grik doesn't get damage from the AoO. So Grik can stand up, make a five foot-step and attack? This gives Grik an additional attack and if he scores huge hits, he might win. I'll roll that, if my interpretation is right.

Dear lonewolf I'm sorry to (perhaps) bother you but there are three issue that I clearly asked in the tactic:

1) As soon as Shaz got 12 or more wounds (he is below 31 hp) use Lay on Hands to heal 12 hp (I did an error last time)

2) Shaz has Body Fuel feat, if out of power points take 1 point ability damage to Str, Dex, and Con to gain 2 pp

3) Essence is instructed to use the Cure Light Wounds potion if Shaz fall down (below 0 hp)

Shaz should use the paladin's Lay on Hands, it is quite obvious. Then, if needed he uses his feat: Body Fuel. Then, you did zero attacks with Essence, at least let her use the potion on Shaz if needed.

Thanks

In Ajora's tactics, it states to use ride for cover versus ranged attacks. If the ride check is made, then the hits on rounds 4, 7, 8 and 16 would all be negated, as my AC would be a 22. Also, on Round 30 Shaz's AC increase from a 19 to a 22 for no explainable reason, which would have allowed Ajora to hit him twice more.

At that point it becomes a straight shootout for the gold. Which I still am likely to lose.

you´re absolutely right. I will correct this, tomorrow. This fight could break the record of most arrows fired in asingle fight.

This one is correct:
Shaz starts shooting again in round 30 and thus gains the bonus from fighting defensively again.

Evaine Dreamseeker vs Alagar is up. It took me a while to do this one, so hopefully it all turned out acceptably to the players. Thanks to both players for having very clear tactics, however!
The fight looks good to me. I could probably dig through it for some +2 or something that was missed, but it was around 70 HP dealt vs 0 (that would be me) so I think it would need to be some pretty impressive errors. If I'd known it would have been me vs. the spiked chain/growth/invis I would have surrendered. (Seriously.) I thought there was a horse...

Comments on Saffron vs. Frost

- Blindsense needs Line of Effect? I didn't know that. That changes a lot.

- Saffron and Frosts character sheet sblocks are switched.

- I agree with the decisions you made about invis and miss chance.

- I though that the natural attacks in grapples were nerfed to 1 attack per round?

- Saffon's chances were slim from the start, but that rolling was awful.

- Pretty sure that Saffron dosn't get 12,000xp for loosing.

- Aug. expansion tatoo costs credits? I thought that was only if its ML was above my ECL.

I believe I currently hold the record with a 122 round shootout on a former character of mine...Kaigan ran it...and hated me for weeks afterward LOL

@ Vath: You are correct about the natural attacks in a grapple. A creature can make as many attacks or grapple checks in a grapple as it's bab allows....bab is the only thing that determines this, as per the most recent FAQ. See also the Court Decisions post, where this is elaborated upon.

About Blindsense, read the description and it specificially requires LOE.

Tattoo's and potions are always at minimum caster level. unless you use credits.

About natural attacks in a grapple I researched it. He takes the -4 penalty on all his natural attacks because he is using the attack an opponent option instead of a grapple check. Or he could use a grapple check damage an opponent option and then only get the number of grapple checks allowed by his BAB and they are all using the same natural weapon.

Damit! I just read up on this I cannot believe I flubbed it up! I'll have to change that. Hell the battle just got way longer.

I'll fix the typo's

Sauro, that's no longer true!

Check the prison thread for court decisions (which has been updated with the new FAQ information) for the low-down on how attacks are resolved in grapples now.

Hint: it doesn't matter how many appendages/claws/whatever you have now. You can attack in a grapple with a weapon (natural or manufactured) a number of times determined ONLY by your BAB.

You got it. You edited just as I posted.

The blackmarket rules say "potions or oils not listed in the srd." Are we assuming that tatoos follow the potions rules? Since there is no list of possible tatoos in the SRD are we only charging for augmented tatoos? Anybody have a rules quote?

Dosn't change the fight at all, but you put a note about potion of enlarge person being CL1. Strangely, the enlarge person potions in the SRD is listed at CL5; check the price on them. Since it is in the SRD that way, it dosn't cost credits.

And therefore, unless I am mistaken, the new rules mean it is not possible to buy them until level 5 (because they are CL5!) unless the player is willing to expend credits.

Two comments:

1) I think your are using the tattoo of Empathic transfer incorrectly. In theory won't it transfer 2d10 point of damage from the person touched to the fine construct? Why would she tap a tattoo that was going to heal me? And even so, Lord Frost would never willingly be a target of an empathic transfer from Lady Saffron.

And

2) Apparently, I forgot to mention I was hovering on my initative and would be able to fly 150ft at 0ft. Rather then walk 60ft on the ground. No big deal, though.

@Dracazar

Just so you know, it wasn't a planned thing. I thought Ajora was an easy target, and thought there was little chance to win. So I decided to target everyone else until SOla was left to give Sola the best chance to win due to the underdog factor. I really thought I would begin to do that, then fall prey to a Hold Person or similar spell.

The tatoo is hostile empathic transfer, so Frost wouldn't have much choice (though he could save for 1/2 damage). And if it transfers the healing to the construct and not myself, then I want a refund.

Also, there are some errors in the fight; might not change the outcome, but will change something.

As for part 1. The effect carried acts as if the power were manifest by the user of the tattoo . The construct cannot manifest powers and realy doesn't cause a power to take effect. It causes an effect that is based on a power. Subtle distinction, but necessary. Thisis a hostile empathic transfer power anyway.

Also I won't argue with you now on point 2, because it's not an issue in this battle. However it should be noted that strictly speaking by the CoCo rules you cannot hover in the beginning even if you have the hover ability. You must have perfect flight to do that. Also it is impossible to charge while flying. You can dive and that is simular to a charge, but you cannot dive when hovering 5' off the ground. If you want to charge you move on the ground with your ground movement speed. If you want to dive, then you need to fly and get to use your fly movement speed, but you are also required to drop 10' in altitude to dive. You cannot dive from the starting location.

BTW the edited fight is here.

Cher Vs Manzarf is up for grabs. I'm feeling realy sick right now and can't think very clearly.

Manzarf (Abyssal Stalker) vs. Cher (Dracazar) : MysticMonk
2006 Match 08; Thanks for running the fight

Free Activity:
Profession (Magic Identify) 130 gp

Objectives:
Summons overwhelm him, stay away from melee

Cher (Lawful Neutral Human Cleric 5) 31 hp:
# [A] Cher (Dracazar) [Power: 1756 (878); 5 won, 6 lost]

Manzarf (Chaotic Evil Dwarf Barbarian 1 / Fighter 4) 49 hp:
# [A] Manzarf the Loathsome (Abyssal Stalker) [Power: 1908 (954); 5 won, 5 lost]

Tactic:
Start in the back of the starting box holding some pink flowers
Round 01) Cast SM3 from memory (celestial hippogriff, augmented, 5 rounds, 2 hit +8, damage 1d4+6, fly 100', scent, smite evil +3, charge)
Round 02) Cast Sanctuary from memory (5 rounds), move towards foe
Round 03) Cast SM3 from memory (celestial bison, augmented, 5 rounds, hit +10, damage 1d8+11, smite evil +5, charge)
Round 04) Move towards foe and ready to touch him
As soon as he is very wounded (less than 1/4 health, this means about 3-4 hits from griff or bison) do this:
Cast True Strike from scroll, go in melee.
Use the domain's death touch for 5d6 damage and give his soul to Wee Jas and put pink flowers on the body
Keep always Sanctuary up, this means to cast it again on round 7 and on round 12.

Contingencies:
If tactic is broken try more summons from scrolls (the are plenty) and more sanctuary from memory
If something breaks the scheme feel free to improvise and use any scroll, they are there to be used!
Again feel free to use any scroll, they are there to be used!
If out of tactic please Play the character, Cher is a wise cleric
Use Cure Moderate Wounds scroll if badly wounded (at your discretion, perhaps while inside Sanctuary)
Use the 5' step to cast or draw scrolls avoiding AoO, cast defensively if needed
Use Spellcraft to know what spells are casted

Note:
Summoned monsters (from memory) have Str +4 (so +2 to hit/damage) and Con +4 (so +2 hp * hit dice) for the Augment Summoning feat
Remember that Celestial creatures have resistance to acid 5 cold 5 and electricity 5, spell resistance HD + 5 (7), Smite Evil
Some summons have Tremorsense, they can detect and pinpoint any creature or object within 60 feet in contact with the ground
Feel free to summon other monsters if you (Cher) think they are better for the situation
Always use Smite Evil/Good if able
If there are evident problems with this tactic please PM me, thanks

Hi, and thanks for Pitlording! (You never can say that too often, right?)

OK, this should be at least interesting!

I admit, Manzarf has a lousy will save, but I'll do something to it someday. At least he's a walking armoury!

She has way too much of options, so you'll need to improvise quite a lot.

Start with the bow in hand in the front line of my box. Ready to shoot against spellcasting if I spot her, if not then run towards the rocks in the middle. If she summons some nasty creatures, try to get away from them, otherwise tap the tattoo of force screen and go to melee using my two-handed weapons. I don't wish to fight the summoned creatures, run away if possible, withdraw, anything (but please, no AoO's).

If I get held, rage and try to break free (Manzarf once survived a CDG and did that). Remember that CDG is a full-round action and I get to save once more during it.

IF POSSIBLE AT ANY POINT, GRAPPLE CHER!

My main target in the beginning is to prevent Cher from casting by readied shots and forced concentration. It won't probably work but at least it will make her lose some spell levels. If she is in a sanctuary, don't bother to shoot, just run away from her hideous cretures. If I get toe-to-toe (which is my second main objective), trip attack Cher and then grapple with the free attack (that way she gets a -4 to hit with her AoO). Remeber that I have Quickdraw!

If my hps drop below 15, use a potion of CLW.
If my hps drop below 8, rage. If surrounded by multiple foes and hps drop below 13, rage.

Ask, If problems. Remeber that Manzarf isn't an idiot of a barbarian. Have fun!

Just for clarity sake:

Gladiators with the ability to hover (though the feat or through perfect/good manueverability) may begin flying at this location, though their altitude is still limited to 0 feet.

So, in theory.. I could start with a flight speed of 0 at 0 feet. Now, as has been stated it didn't really change anything.

By the way, why don't you think you can charge while flying? Nowhere in the description of flight does it state you cannot charge. What you cannot do is charge while gaining in altitude. Because your movement is reduced to 1/2 movement. Which is stated in the charge ability that you are unable to charge at that point. A flyer should be able to charge in any turn that it is level or above it's opponent. If it is 30ft above its opponent it become elligible for a dive (double damage). But nothing in the description states you cannot do it that I can find.

Well honestly I was told that I couldn't charge while flying. I don't see anything that says you cannot, nor do I see anything that specificially says you can. @ Gonbow: Can I have you adjust my crafting earnings? It should be 88 gp, instead of 82.

@ ^Rayne^: If I might offer a suggestion...rather than having spider climb as a spell, you may want to consider swapping a spell to get your hands on expeditious retreat when you reach a level you can do that, or spend the credits to do it sooner if you have them. It will help your keep-away tactics far more, methinks. Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

So the scorpions shouldn't appear until Round 6 and 7 (assuming the delay that you introduced... not exactly what I wrote, but I think that delay kept to the spirit of my tactics so that's fine).

I don't think this error will make a difference in the fight, however, as by the time Seyan'du withdraws, he has no means of healing and so a couple of hit points aren't going to make a difference, as evidence by dropping him with a single magic missile.

Jonathon Raven vs. Kitaya (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8687898&postcount=379) is posted for your viewing pleasure in the battles thread.

Man, I'm jealous. Can I borrow some of that luck? I'll return it, honest.

TM

OMG! :OMG!

After I had written Kitaya's tactics I gave Jonaton less than 1% chance of victory.
After I had seen Abyssal Stalker's tactics, I gave him less than 0,1% chance of victory.

Rolling consistently good and having no less than 5 natural 20's on attacks can ruin anyone's day.

Thank you for running it Magister, to me it seems you put a very good effort into running it, I'm impressed! There are however (there always are) a few issues, which, in a fight like this, cannot help but be possibly outcome changing:

Round 11: you did your best adding up all the modifiers, but Kitaya should get an additional +2 from being invisible for a total of +10 vs. AC 10 (Jonaton also does not get his Dex bonus against an invisible attacker). This does not affect the fight at all, just noted for reference.

Round 12: no problem with you ruling that Jonaton benefits from Misty's withdraw action. I have seen Pitlords rule either way, but both are rulings are fine with me. But....

Round 12: I asked to have Kitaya attack from 5 ft. away. Being enlarged she has 10 ft. of reach, the Withdraw action only causes the first 5 ft. of the move not to count as threatened. But since Jonaton has to move 10 ft. before being out of Kitaya's threat range, he will draw an AoO for doing so. I counted on Jonaton withdrawing, that's why I wanted Kitaya to get within 5 ft., so she could get of at least two grapple attempts (and the chance of failing both was below 1%)

Round 13: Jonaton throws a javelin at Kitaya (with another 20!), but since Kitaya has deflect arrows feat, the javelin will be deflected and miss. I was amazed Abyssal Stalker even wrote ranged tactics against Kitaya, since the rare hit would be deflected anyway.

Round 14: The spiritual weapon hits AC 22, Kitaya's AC 10 +3 Wis +0 Dex (running), -1 size, +1 dodge (feat), +4 mage armor, +4 shield, +2 deflection (shield of faith), which adds up to 23, not 22, so I think the weapon will just miss....

Don't feel bad about Pitlording this, losses to the dice happen. I can bear losing to the dice, I think its much worse to lose through Pitlord errors, poor tactic execution or rule issues. The quirkiness of the dice actually gives the fights a certain charm, it would be boring without them.

Thanks for running it, Abyssal Stalker. Went pretty much as expected, no string of 20's for my opponent in any case. ;)

As long as Aramur wins and doesn't use any expendables, he doesn't mind progressing a bit slower through by taking an ally penalty.

The only error I see, is that Polymorph doesn't increase weapon size. So Barthleby will have a -2 to hit and deal less damage with his heavy mace.

He's got blindfight. No invis bonuses for you!

You were out of movement. I figured (correctly) that you'd prefer to get at least one attack in before Misery pinpointed you with scent and got in a free full attack (that's what would've happened if you'd walked up and just stood there so that you could take a 5' step next round and been base-to-base (face-to-face?) with him. I think I made the right decision. Also, i considered a charge, but your tactics said nothing about utilizing a charge...so I didn't.

{touches his nose with his finger and points at Usurpator} DAMN. You got me. That'll buy you 3 more HP and be potentially fight-changing.

And THAT is a true statement, buying you ANOTHER 5 hps. Well...that's a few more 20s he needs. I'll be editting it tonight.

Thanks for running the fight King Uther.

An FYI about Crawling tattoos though--Crawling Tattoos with a Save vs. Reflex power scribed on them don't allow a reflex save.

A crawling tattoo must enter the target’s square to attack and thus provokes attacks of opportunity as it passes through the target’s threatened area. The tattoo makes one touch attack per round thereafter until it strikes its target or is destroyed. On a successful attack, the power scribed in the crawling tattoo affects the target if the target fails the appropriate saving throw; however, powers that normally allow a Reflex saving throw automatically affect the touched target. Crawling tattoos can ferry beneficial powers as well as harmful ones, and a target can allow the tattoo’s touch attack to succeed if he or she desires.

Not a major issue; it's just for future reference.

Oh yeah. And in Round 9, Perius can't attack. It still costs him a move action to reload his light crossbow.

@King Uther: Looks about right ... not much one can do with those sort of rolls. Just two things to mention (although they probably won't make much difference):

1) Cyra can only use the lucky reroll on her mindblade 1/day as specified on her sheet.
2) Cyra should have used the heartening ability of her shield in round 8 for the +5hp as specified in her contingencies.

As far as I can see this will at most extend the fight by one round.

I didn't look at each roll, so I'm not sure if it would have had an affect; but Feradeth's AC was too high. When he specifically is using both hands to something (like reading from a scroll) isn't he denied his shield AC? (Which would affect all the times Santos' readied to attack him) Furthermore, the Shield spell doesn't stack with his actual physical shield.

Gah on those horrible rolls. Just cant help that, I guess.

And finally... Magic Missile is suspectible to spell resistance (As is Decelerate). Which Santos happens to have. Those'll need to be rolled. Sorry King Uther.

Hmmm.

Based on corrections people are noting, Feradeth's AC goes to 15 (Alter Self), then 19, then 23.

Santos's to hit rolls only get that high on the tattoo as far as I can see (Natural 1, 16, 18, 26 on tattoo, 19), so it doesn't affect his rolls at all. Curse the tattoo for screwing up your high roll. =X

Perius's AC during the fight is 19, not 22, because he doesn't have a shield equipped so far, but it makes no difference since nothing was attacking him in the 19-22 AC range.

Cyra's initial reroll actually hits, but the subsequent rerolls cannot be made.

Round 16's Cyra's attack actually hits.

Fight 2 is up.
Donak vs. Leif

In round 2, I don;t think Donak should have had line of sight to spot Leif. He was inside an obscuring mist and while within the mist "[c]reatures farther [than 5'] away have total concealment (50% miss chance, and the attacker cannot use sight to locate the target)."
King Uther

03-14-06, 11:22 PM
Sorry about the Shield thing. Sometimes when I run a fight, especially this big of one, I just increase the AC by buffs based on what their base AC says on the sheet, sometimes overlooking obvious things like that.

Spell resistance checks here. (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=387724) By those rolls, Santos would've lived 2 more rounds, where he rolled an attack roll of 18 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=387726) and 18 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=387727) .

Subsequently, Cyra would've gained 2 attacks on Perius, a 21 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=387728) and a 21. (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=387729)

That's some weird double rolling.

Perius' extra attacks were a 21 and 13 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=387730) .

I didn't activate the heartening ability because the round in which Cyra dies Feradeth would've hit her for maximum MM damage, killing her anyways. But I could do that for you if you'd like.

Essentially the fight remains unchanged, but if I edit the heartening and add the extra rounds Feradeth uses 3 more charges of his wand. If you want it you got it.

That's the thing. When you gained LOS, he was 20ft in the air. Now the radius of obscuring mist is 20', so he was just barely in the mist. and did not have the total concealment. Why sunwolf wanted to stay at the edge of the mist like that is beyond me.

Tactics for Aeiou:

Begin mounted on my pegasus, holding lance only.

Immediately fly out looking for Telveran, when he is spotted, ready my action to move on his move action. Once he has complete the move action, and my readied action trigger, then move closer to him, negating any cover. Then when initiative's reset, charge him taking -5 to attack.

So what should happen, is I spot him, and ready to move vs. his move. If he moves, then move towards negating cover. Initiatives reset, then spirit charge taking -5 to attack for powerattack. Use the lance two handed.

My attack should be +8Bab+7str+1weaponfocus+1greaterwf+2ench antment+2charge+1higher-5powerattack = +17, and damage if hit: (1d8+ 10strtwohanded+2enchantment+2weaponspec+ 10powerattack) *3spiritcharge = 3d8+72 damage!

If I miss, or he is still alive, draw shield and attack normally with my peg.

Don't forget mounted combat to negate a hit, and please use pegasus for cover.

That's it,

Tactics for Telveran:

Thanks for running this fight.
Let me know if you have questions.
Looks to be a tough fight for Telveran.

Sunwolf

Goal: Avoid charges at all cost, boost Telveran's AC, enfeeble him, and drain his con, and beat him down in melee.

I expect him to be using his pegasus -- it has average flight speed so cannot turn well. I believe that using the central pillars in 2,2 or equivalent spots is safe from his charges. Get there if possible. However, I expect to be engaged in melee by round 3 (or sooner

Bring Rascal, leave Nimblefoot at home.

Enter behind rock on the right, with scroll of stilled alterself in hand.

Notes:
Telveran has DR3/- with his armor
He doesn't threaten in the space next to him if he is using his lance.
so step towards him to cast or attack him (take AOO from horse or pegasus -- don't attempt to cast defensively.
move to avoid charges

Win or lose init:
Move if necessary to block his charge. cast stilled alterself from scroll (1d20+1 vs DC6 to use)-- alter Telveran into a gold half-dragon (treat as trogdolyte for +6 nat armor) and Rascal into a mini-gold dragon (treat as stirge AC 14 +2size, +2dex fly 40 average)

Draw scroll of stilled ray of enfeeblement, (1d20+1 vs DC4 CL check to use), cast bless from personal power +1 to hit for Telveran and Rascal.

When he gets in range, cast ray of enfeeblement on him. Draw great sword.

After being based by Aieuo -- or in reach of his lance:
Telveran will 5' step and ready to move to keep Rascal w/in 5' (and attack if possible). Rascal will attempt attack him. Aioeu doesn't threaten spaces around him but his horse does. Rascal will attempt a touch attack +10 (+11 w/bless) and attach himself to Aieou -- this is counts as grappling (A. loses his dex bonus) - once attached Rascal will have a +6 to grapple (6BAB-4str-8size +12(stirge racial)). The following round after Rascal successfully grapples - he will drain 1d4 con from Aieou. After draining 3-4 con, Rascal will remain on Aieou to aid another to give Telveran +2 to hit. Note if Aioeu moves more than 5' from Telveran Rascal will revert to a weasel but still be attached draining hp 1d4-3=1 per round or able to aid another since Rascal is threatening.

After Rascal has drained con from Aiou, Telveran will just full attack with his greatsword and bite. Rascal will be biting for more con damage if he has done less than 4, or aid another if he is a weasel or has done 4+ con damage.

If Telveran gets a chance cast True strike and power attack on the next round for -6/+12 damage use Divine might in this case.

If Telveran can't full attack for some reason, and Rascal won't be in the area of effect - use breath weapon on A. and his horse. DC17 reflex 2d8 fire damage. -- save for half.

Get lucky rolls for Telveran

Interrupts:
If Aioue is flying out of reach switch to glaive to attack him as he gets close.
Use layon hands healing if taken more than 40hp and not engaged in melee or grapple. He does more damage than Telveran can heal with the wand of CLW so don't bother with that.
Take any AOOs he give Telveran to damage him.
Use wand of shield if for some reason A. hasn't attacked by round 3, dropping the wand is fine after use.

Dunno how DTFarstar is doing on it, but I'll PM you a copy of her tactics. Of course, this is pretty darn last-minute, but if it's possible that would be great.

@waywreth: If you send Loquan's tactics to Uther as well, he might theoretically avoid a holdover. At the very least, he can probably post the setup and thus facilitate the fight for next week.

@King Uther - Tactics for Loquan forwarded off to you. Thanks for picking it up! Greatly appreciated.

That's the thing. When you gained LOS, he was 20ft in the air. Now the radius of obscuring mist is 20', so he was just barely in the mist. and did not have the total concealment. Why sunwolf wanted to stay at the edge of the mist like that is beyond me.

@Kaigan
Thanks for running the fight.

I actually wanted to beyond reach in case Donak charged into the mist for a grapple. As to being spotted on round 2, I thought that the mist was a cylinder not radius spell -- my bad, will have to check the spells more carefully in the future.

Not much Leif can do vs lucky criticals. Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good :)
Can't complain about someone's luck since Leif has had his share of lucky rolls too.
Congrats to Mal-2's Donak.

No, I have to apologize, I was wrong, it is a cylinder spell, so I am going back to roll at the end of the fight. You basically have 2SL and 2HP left., will post when I am done editting.

Fight 2 is up.

Donak vs. Leif

Please check for errors. I can't believe some people's luck...

Please check this over again. I editted the fight, and the results changed. The edit in the fight occurred because I misread the area of obscuring mist, thinking it was a sphere instead of cylinder. This made Donak's first attack, the one that origonally hit, miss, and would not play a significant role.

But this also gave Leif one more chance to use a MM, which killed Donak.

So please read over it thanks.

Shoot. You got Donak's hit points wrong. When he activates Chain of Personal Superiority for +2 Str and Con, his hit points increase from 31 to 37 (as noted on the character sheet). In round 8, instead of being unconscious with -2 hit points, he should still be up with 4 hp remaining.

Darn, that's right... well let's hope you get these last hits in...

Edit: Made the change... only made the fight last 1 round longer.

Loquan vs Aerryl is up. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8699940&postcount=388)

It was run quickly, but really high rolls made the fight quick and decisive. If any party objects, I will give it a full rerun next pairing.

And my tactics were written because Loquan won't win any fights until level 6 without some lucky rolling on his part (which doesn't seem to happen).

You realize there was no need to hurry? We're well passed the edit deadline anyway so both characters can't be paired for the March 15th.
Ah well no big deal, you managed to get a fight done before even pairings are up. Thanks for running it.

Edit: I updated my character and put a big note in bold, maybe he'll get paired. Thanks again King Uther - picking up a fight at the last second is really a nice thing to do.

Big thanks from my end, too. I also updated Aerryl, and I sent a PM to Pitlords making sure he knows what's going on--at the least, he doesn't need to assign us a new pitlord.

There is a big mistake, though: bite attacks don't do double damage on a diving charge, only claw/talon attacks do that. In fact, bites can't be used in a dive at all.

However, I will assume that with the way things were going, Loquan wasn't going to do so hot anyway. That was about to be a lot of animals chewing on him. And without him going with Ego Whip, I had the healing contigency as well.

Also, please add tax (8% to TLT) and free activity (teach Seek to Predator) when you get a chance. Thanks!
