| waywreth05-16-07, 02:23 PM | Fights of the Week: May 16th Please don't edit the sheet after the deadline or you will lose the match. Rules of Gladius All that you need to know is written in the Rules of Gladius. It could be useful also to give a look to the Court Decisions Part 1 and Part 2. Please do not make fake accounts or insult the Elders. Pairings GM MindwandererB will pair the active Characters of Gladius after the deadline. Make sure that your character is not in prison. Pitlording You should use the CoCo Dice Roller (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com) for the fight. If you need it, there is a nice template ready to use that will help. You could find the Battle Map Tag Generator (http://www.hwx.it/coco) for dynamic Maps very useful. You must post a link to your fight in this thread when it is complete. If you need a quick and dirty tool to calculate distances between two points (in 2-D or 3-D), this tool (http://wormhole.ath.cx/coco/coco_dist.php) should suffice. Another useful link is the Quick Access tables for XP and Gold. If a fight needs to be rerun, the Pitlord has to inform the Pitlords account. He cannot react to requests from Players because the other player and the pitlord might disagree. He has no time to read the fight and the discussion. Please keep that in mind. PMs from players with rerun requests won't have an impact. Recent News and Developments The Iron Man tournament continues this week - good luck to all involved. The semi-finals are post-poned one week for outstanding matches. 25 Hours of Forum/Chat Downtime Beginning Thursday, May 17th The forum/chat servers will be moving to a new physical location Thursday, May 17th, 7 am PDT (10 am EDT/2 pm GMT). Service will be restored Friday, May 18th, 8 am PDT (11 am EDT/3 pm GMT). Comments & Concerns Post any comments or concerns for this weeks fights in this thread. Be kind and courteous to your fellow posters, and don't feed the pitlords. Please remember that they do hard work and consume a lot of time to let you play. Above all, have FUN! If you have questions or comments on any of the changes, please make your posts be heard in the Council of Gladius! |
| MindWandererB05-16-07, 02:40 PM | Some of you may have noticed, I've resumed keeping track of quests on the quest roster (post #3 of the Characters thread), which Cat had given up on for a while. For questlords, that means you should be updating the questlog at the beginning of the quest thread before the deadline. If you describe what actually happened (see "The Gawane Underworld, Reprise" for an example), it saves me from having to read the thread to find out. |
| Zevox05-16-07, 03:38 PM | Hm... well, I think I know who Ceilia's fighting this week. TLT Cleric vs WAR Cleric - I'll enjoy that one :D . And anyone else sense an FFA coming in the ECL 7 league? 3 characters and a team activating, and it'd be just my luck for Arden to get such a fight again just after getting his first War Mind level. Zevox |
| TelinArtho05-16-07, 03:41 PM | @Usurpator - regarding Borodin - did you mean to bring his horse? It is not listed in the prebuffs, and I want to make sure since I know you are just returning from an extended absence. |
| McJarvis05-16-07, 03:41 PM | Hm... well, I think I know who Ceilia's fighting this week. TLT Cleric vs WAR Cleric - I'll enjoy that one :D . And anyone else sense an FFA coming in the ECL 7 league? 3 characters and a team activating, and it'd be just my luck for Arden to get such a fight again just after getting his first War Mind level. Zevox Phear the Battlesongs! |
| Zevox05-16-07, 03:46 PM | Phear the Battlesongs! Meh, no offense, but I'd be more worried about Durin. Arden's faced him twice already, and lost both times. I'm pretty sure Arden can handle a couple of foes two levels below him barring horrid luck, but I know hes closely matched with that Dwarf. Zevox |
| templer1005-16-07, 03:59 PM | Hm... well, I think I know who Ceilia's fighting this week. TLT Cleric vs WAR Cleric - I'll enjoy that one :D . And anyone else sense an FFA coming in the ECL 7 league? 3 characters and a team activating, and it'd be just my luck for Arden to get such a fight again just after getting his first War Mind level. Zevox that will be a nightmare to run - 5 chars in 1 fight + if they got allies..... |
| Usurpator05-16-07, 03:59 PM | @Usurpator - regarding Borodin - did you mean to bring his horse? It is not listed in the prebuffs, and I want to make sure since I know you are just returning from an extended absence. Actually, I did. But I knew I had to list it under prebuffs, just didn't have a lot of time remaining to fix up my characters so I forgot it. Too bad, better luck next time. I'm quite aware of the ally prebuff rule, I proposed it after I saw Caterane and King Uther going overboard with a whole stable of allies. Horses are really part of the standard equipment of nearly every character I make today. They are just too useful and can win fights nearly by themselves. Even if you don't want to use them, you need them to even the odds against other horse/ally users. At least I don't have to like them. |
| McJarvis05-16-07, 04:02 PM | Meh, no offense, but I'd be more worried about Durin. Arden's faced him twice already, and lost both times. I'm pretty sure Arden can handle a couple of foes two levels below him barring horrid luck, but I know hes closely matched with that Dwarf. Zevox I pity the fool who don't phaer da bard. -_- |
| Usurpator05-16-07, 04:11 PM | @Usurpator - regarding Borodin - did you mean to bring his horse? It is not listed in the prebuffs, and I want to make sure since I know you are just returning from an extended absence. Hmmm.... I just checked Borodin's 3FC and: Prebuffs/Ongoing Effects: bring Adamant Does that not qualify for bringing the horse? |
| TelinArtho05-16-07, 04:13 PM | Hmm - not sure. In any case, I was mentioning it so that you could preemptively fix it by making a public announcement to that effect. |
| TelinArtho05-16-07, 04:16 PM | @MWB - apparently you missed that Darrgon was set to active this week. Should fit nicely in to get rid of that Monster fight. |
| MindWandererB05-16-07, 04:20 PM | @MWB - apparently you missed that Darrgon was set to active this week. Should fit nicely in to get rid of that Monster fight. Huh... so I did. Pairings are done, BTW. |
| templer1005-16-07, 04:30 PM | 3rd week in a row (i think) i pitlord for derrgon the summoner - i think this guy just like me.... on another note- telin you actually have a fighter at level 6? thought they were more of a dip class or at max level 4 (if you really like the weapon spec). |
| Zevox05-16-07, 04:32 PM | Kathren Durrol (Zevox) vs. Darrgon the Summoner (TelinArtho) : templer10 [Arena] Oooh, I like this one. Abjurer vs Summoner, both using UA variants. Should be interesting. Durin (Maraxus) vs. Arden Tarmik (Zevox) : templer10 [Cavern] :uh-huh: Holy cow. Deja Vu round 2 - this is the exact same pairing on the exact map Arden has had for his first fight in his last two levels! Wow, just wow. Lets see if I can't turn the result around this time. Kervan Sheharath (MindWandererB) vs. Ceilia Durrol (Zevox) : TheMagister [Arena] Knew that one was coming, but I have to say, nice map and pitlord rolls. Ceilia's Guildmaster gets to run it in a map that allows for moderate buffing and good maneuvering room. Anybody care to place bets? ;) Zevox |

| templer1005-16-07, 04:37 PM | for me i have - Matthis Dar'ath III (waywreth) vs. Lord Lorian (templer10) : Sjiggie [City] same as last week more or less but not i have Allies - ill be suprised to lose that. Farig of Denth (TelinArtho) vs. Longshot (templer10) : TheMagister [Arena] unless telin is willing to shell out the 750 g for that potion of fly he has no chance in hell - considering he cant even use his horse for the first 4 rounds (intimidate rocks). Elrick Flamebrother (templer10) vs. The Undertaker (Abyssal Stalker) : Zevox more of a problem- full caster with lots of spells and spell levels... |
| Zevox05-16-07, 04:37 PM | Credits: +5: SauroGrenom, TelinArtho +4: TheMagister, Vathelokai +3: Erithmu, Zevox +2: McJarvis, MitzaVolchenko, Rauul, Sjiggie, templer10, Yitzi +1: Hirumajoe, Macbrea, Malither76, MindWandererB +0: NiQil *raised eyebrow* Only +3? Shouldn't I get +4? I activated four characters, one a MQ, so thats -3. Then +3 for administration, and +4 for fights (the Iron Man matches were being counted double, right?). Zevox |
| TelinArtho05-16-07, 04:39 PM | 3rd week in a row (i think) i pitlord for derrgon the summoner - i think this guy just like me.... on another note- telin you actually have a fighter at level 6? thought they were more of a dip class or at max level 4 (if you really like the weapon spec). I've had a couple of straight fighters but Farig is my only currently active one. There's also a couple in the archives that are level 12 and 13 I believe (Pard, Lord of the Bumps and Kage Nightwind respectively). She's had moderate success too... |
| MindWandererB05-16-07, 04:40 PM | *raised eyebrow* Only +3? Shouldn't I get +4? I activated four characters, one a MQ, so thats -3. Then +3 for administration, and +4 for fights (the Iron Man matches were being counted double, right?). Zevox +3 for administration? Where does that come from? One from Guildlords, one from Guildmaster (EHTC). Just being an elder isn't worth one. |
| TelinArtho05-16-07, 04:44 PM | unless telin is willing to shell out the 750 g for that potion of fly he has no chance in hell - considering he cant even use his horse for the first 4 rounds (intimidate rocks). Am I missing something? You don't have even one rank in Intimidate that I can see - let alone enough to scare the horse... |
| templer1005-16-07, 04:46 PM | Am I missing something? You don't have even one rank in Intimidate that I can see - let alone enough to scare the horse... damn - knew i forgot something - well NM then ill do a training room for next fight. |
| SauroGrenom05-16-07, 04:49 PM | Damn it. I was hopping to get Raskos paired against Besthirah. Nuts... Good luck to the Arcane Hand against that one. |
| Zevox05-16-07, 04:53 PM | +3 for administration? Where does that come from? One from Guildlords, one from Guildmaster (EHTC). Just being an elder isn't worth one. It doesn't? When did that change? I could absolutely swear I saw in the rules thread at one point that it did. Edit: Huh, its not there. Maybe I just made a mistake at some point. *shakes his head* Oh well, carry on then. Zevox |
| TelinArtho05-16-07, 05:03 PM | damn - knew i forgot something - well NM then ill do a training room for next fight. I am fine with granting the intimidate for the fight. |
| templer1005-16-07, 05:07 PM | I am fine with granting the intimidate for the fight. thanks. |
| McJarvis05-16-07, 05:09 PM | I am fine with granting the intimidate for the fight. You're a good man, Charlie Brown. |
| McJarvis05-16-07, 05:26 PM | @Yitza: Man is that rough luck. First you try to burgle a NiQil character, then you go up against someone who is guarding & can successfully block the Burgle. Tough luck, man. :( [Regardless of winning: always sucks to have a skill activity shut down] |
| Rauul05-16-07, 05:27 PM | @templer10 Tactics for Shadow sent... should be fast and quick... |
| Yitzi05-16-07, 06:07 PM | Credits: +5: SauroGrenom, TelinArtho +4: TheMagister, Vathelokai +3: Erithmu, Zevox +2: McJarvis, MitzaVolchenko, Rauul, Sjiggie, templer10, Yitzi +1: Hirumajoe, MindWandererB +0: NiQil, Macbrea -1: Malither76 +2? Wouldnt it be +0 for me-4 characters active, running 2 fights. |
| MindWandererB05-16-07, 06:18 PM | +2? Wouldnt it be +0 for me-4 characters active, running 2 fights. You only have three characters active, so you're half-right. Should be +1. |
| Erithmu05-16-07, 06:21 PM | You only have three characters active, so you're half-right. Should be +1. You forgot his quester. |
| Sjiggie05-16-07, 06:57 PM | Gradak isn't paired but was set ready for this week can he get a fight this week if needed I can take another fight for it. Thanks Sjiggie |
| Zevox05-16-07, 07:17 PM | @ templer10 - Tactics for Kathren Durrol (vs Darrgon the Summoner) have been PMed. I'm really looking forward to seeing how that goes - two wizards duking it out is a really interesting situation. Zevox |
| McJarvis05-16-07, 08:21 PM | @Malither76 : Tactics for Davian sent. |
| waywreth05-16-07, 08:26 PM | @Sjiggie - Tactics for Matthis III in ECL5 fight sent via PM. |
| MindWandererB05-16-07, 08:33 PM | You forgot his quester. No, dumber than that; I missed Daren because I had Yitzi's name typed wrong. Oops. Gradak isn't paired but was set ready for this week can he get a fight this week if needed I can take another fight for it. Thanks SjiggieNo need, we still have a volunteer left: Gradak Tumblebelly (Zevox) vs. Unknown Monster : templer10 [Arena] <sigh> You'd think that with the ready-crawler, I wouldn't make these mistakes so often. |
| Zevox05-16-07, 08:45 PM | Gradak Tumblebelly (Zevox) vs. Unknown Monster : templer10 [Arena] Wow - apparently I have a character I never even knew I had. ;) Zevox |
| NiQil05-16-07, 08:46 PM | Wow - apparently I have a character I never even knew I had. ;) Zevox I believe that is Sjiggie's PC. |
| NiQil05-16-07, 08:48 PM | @Yitza: Man is that rough luck. First you try to burgle a NiQil character, then you go up against someone who is guarding & can successfully block the Burgle. Tough luck, man. :( [Regardless of winning: always sucks to have a skill activity shut down] This made me laugh...apparantly trying to burgle me is now somewhat akin to trying to convince TM that we made the right decision on flurried touch attacks....both possible but not very likely LOL |
| Zevox05-16-07, 09:01 PM | I believe that is Sjiggie's PC. I know - hence the ";)" smiley. Zevox |
| Zevox05-16-07, 09:08 PM | @ templer 10 - And tactics for Arden Tarmik (vs Durin) PMed. Heres hoping for a change of outcome this time. Or at least a friggin' map change next time... I'll have to get Ceilia's tactics to TM after the downtime. Not going to have enough time tonight. Zevox |
| templer1005-16-07, 10:40 PM | since there is significant downtime on the servers - will/can the deadlien be extented (for tactics)? |
| templer1005-16-07, 10:50 PM | Sjiggie - monster has been rolled - no applicable knowladge - 1 non humanoid Large 4 legged creature. |
| NiQil05-16-07, 11:55 PM | @ Yitzi: Tactics for Taren Rune sent via PM @ TheMagister: Tactics for Tyden Rayn sent via PM @ MitzaVolchenko: Tactics for Apocalypse sent via PM |
| Vathelokai05-17-07, 12:15 AM | @TheMagister: Tactics for Unholy Ninja sent via PM. |
| MindWandererB05-17-07, 02:44 AM | since there is significant downtime on the servers - will/can the deadlien be extented (for tactics)? I don't really see the need, since the servers will be up for six hours before the deadline. Plenty of time to write tactics offline and send them in. If you're worried about it, make sure to have an offline copy of your and your opponents' sheets. |
| templer1005-17-07, 03:14 AM | themagister - tactics for longshot VS farig of death sent - have fun - should be quick and messy. sjiggie- tactics for lord lorian vs matthis sent- the city map is a pain in the butt. zevox- tactics for elrick sent. |
| Rauul05-17-07, 08:20 AM | Yorick miniquest is started up... MiniQuest: Into the Mind of the Spy (EL5) (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=12423285#post12423285) |
| Yitzi05-17-07, 08:23 AM | What does the Shadow think he's doing? Even with just Mage armor, Daren has AC 20 (21 vs dodge buddy) where Shadow has only 18 (19 vs dodge buddy), meaning that even with FoB Daren has a better chance to hit, and he does nearly twice as much damage, and has almost as many hit points...and you're not even using your wand once you score a hit! How do you possibly expect to win this? |
| Rauul05-17-07, 08:43 AM | burp |

How do you possibly expect to win this? And your Point... Win or loose he levels and in a Desperate Situation he gets desperate.. never underestimate the power of the desperate :) I mean he can't go range due to deflect arrows.. So he goes melee.. and Prays on the dice loving him over you... |
| Sjiggie05-17-07, 09:23 AM | Wow - apparently I have a character I never even knew I had. ;) Zevox Hey stay off my character ;) Templer10 thanks for the pickup |
| TelinArtho05-17-07, 10:25 AM | Tactics for Darrgon have been sent. Hopefully this goes better than I am hoping... Good luck to my opponent. I also sent Farig's tactics yesterday. Telveran's mission is started. Hood's operation is started. and Ignatius is starting to get a little warmed up... |
| templer1005-17-07, 10:28 AM | Tactics for Darrgon have been sent. Hopefully this goes better than I am hoping... Good luck to my opponent. I also sent Farig's tactics yesterday. . ah good- i sent mine for longshot also - iam wondering did you go for the fly - since at the end i went against levitating and went the Massive hp route (110 buffed) and just blasting. (possibly with energy retort just to have you kill yourself - depending on the spesific contingency). |
| Erithmu05-17-07, 10:30 AM | and Ignatius is starting to get a little warmed up... Actually from my point of view it looks like things got a little cooler. |
| TelinArtho05-17-07, 10:46 AM | ah good- i sent mine for longshot also - iam wondering did you go for the fly - since at the end i went against levitating and went the Massive hp route (110 buffed) and just blasting. (possibly with energy retort just to have you kill yourself - depending on the spesific contingency). Regardless of the route I took I don't think I had much of a chance in this one. I did have an unstated goal though in my tactics... to hopefully have you use a little bit of your expendables... (I probably won't even succeed in that...) |
| templer1005-17-07, 10:53 AM | Regardless of the route I took I don't think I had much of a chance in this one. I did have an unstated goal though in my tactics... to hopefully have you use a little bit of your expendables... (I probably won't even succeed in that...) actually i did - quite a bit - since i prefered to throw money on the "problem" in form of dorja shots then spend a ton of pps - i think i used 9 out of 18 (but the share pain is 83% sure to be usefull in next fight also) - since there are some very strong opponents in ECL 6. now i just want my next fight to be in the plains... |
| Yitzi05-17-07, 10:57 AM | And your Point... Win or loose he levels and in a Desperate Situation he gets desperate.. never underestimate the power of the desperate :) I mean he can't go range due to deflect arrows.. So he goes melee.. and Prays on the dice loving him over you... If I were him, I would go range with attacks from hiding-deflect arrows can't be used when flatfooted. |
| templer1005-17-07, 11:03 AM | If I were him, I would go range with attacks from hiding-deflect arrows can't be used when flatfooted. If both of you were doing hiding game i would have had been.... upset.... - i hate absolutly hate sneaking, besides barring invisibility or really high as in +30 or so hide checks and/or hide in plain sight it's really hard to consistently stay hidden and still attack since the places where you can still attack and have cover reletive to the attacker (which you need or autospot) arent that many. (remmber that hide ranks only mean you stay hidden when going from cover to cover - so you really need shot on the run for that to work) if i were ever to do a build with hide- ill do a shadowdancer - much less of a pain in the ass since he needs to roll a lot less dice since he's essentialy (with proper use of items) always hidden. |
| Rauul05-17-07, 11:03 AM | If I were him, I would go range with attacks from hiding-deflect arrows can't be used when flatfooted. By reading your tactics thats what you thought... So by doing something totally different your caught with your pants down.. Win or loose.. the fight is gonna be bloody :) |
| McJarvis05-17-07, 11:03 AM | If I were him, I would go range with attacks from hiding-deflect arrows can't be used when flatfooted. Nod. This is likely what Yitzi's gonna try on me in the Davian fight this week ;) [Not that it's a surprise-> you can't actually would have great difficulty hurting me unless you hide/snipe. Should be an interesting fight given my lousy spot checks.] |
| Yitzi05-17-07, 11:09 AM | If both of you were doing hiding game i would have had been.... (remmber that hide ranks only mean you stay hidden when going from cover to cover - so you really need shot on the run for that to work) If Daren were to hide, it would be for ambushing puposes, not sniping. By reading your tactics thats what you thought... So by doing something totally different your caught with your pants down except that my plan was essentially to get it to melee and then slaughter the Shadow there. This way, it will be easier even with my being unprepared for you trying for melee. |
| Zevox05-17-07, 11:13 AM | @ TM - Tactics for Ceilia Durrol (vs Kervan Sheharath) have been PMed. I'm suddenly very excited about that one - I think you'll understand why when you see my tactics. I'll be interested to see what MWB comes up with. Zevox |
| Quoriil05-17-07, 11:23 AM | @ Erithmu: tactics for T'kiir (vs. Dunerunner) have been sent. Hopefully I can stay out of his gigantic grasp for a little while. |
| Sjiggie05-17-07, 09:09 PM | if i were ever to do a build with hide- ill do a shadowdancer - much less of a pain in the ass since he needs to roll a lot less dice since he's essentialy (with proper use of items) always hidden. That is where my little Gradak is heading for but it will be a long way from ECL3 till ECL8 where he can get his first level in shadowdancer. |
| hogarth05-17-07, 09:26 PM | @Yitzi: tactics sent for Balthazar Picsou. |
| Yitzi05-17-07, 09:37 PM | Borodin Brightaxe vs. Taren Rune (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=12425914#post12425914)i s up. I plan to work on my other fight tomorrow or Sunday (probably Sunday). |
| NiQil05-17-07, 09:43 PM | Borodin Brightaxe vs. Taren Rune (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=12425914#post12425914)i s up. I plan to work on my other fight tomorrow or Sunday (probably Sunday). Don't forget to add Taren's used/unused arrows to the summary. At least Borodin gets to suffer through the rest of his cycle sans horse. Damn criticals.... |
| Yitzi05-17-07, 10:26 PM | Whoops. Now it's fixed. |
| Zevox05-17-07, 11:13 PM | That is where my little Gradak is heading for but it will be a long way from ECL3 till ECL8 where he can get his first level in shadowdancer. You could do what Featylec did - enter a campaign and get there without the pain of too many arena losses. :D (Seriously, if it weren't for the Liberation of Achos campaign, I'm not sure I'd have been able to go through all the time it'd probably have taken for him to get to level 8 without giving up on him.) Zevox |

ZevoxWhy do you think my cleric is questing ... granted .. he still has a 1:5 record, and the failure tag, but it could be worse ... If you want to level quick ... join Mitza's campaign! @Mitza: I expect my check in the mail .......... |
| Zevox05-17-07, 11:33 PM | Why do you think my cleric is questing ... granted .. he still has a 1:5 record, and the failure tag, but it could be worse ... You know, I have to ask - why did you make him a Cloistered Cleric anyway? Aside from perhaps RP, I can't see any actual benefits from it around here. It'd be nice in a real campaign, but in the arena... join Mitza's campaign! You know, I really want to, but I can't. My only characters of the appropriate level are Mithos and Arden, and the former is going to have about five weeks to spend teaching his new Hippogriffs tricks and I want the latter in the arena and around the EHTC more than I want him in a campaign. Oh well. Yeah, I know that wasn't directed at me, but I wanted to say that anyway. Zevox |

Zevox Heh...I'm starting to wonder if I am the only one on board for that so far...haven't seen anyone else mention it much. Would be a shame to have created a campaign/quest character and not get to use it because the campaign doesn't get off the ground.... |

I'm kinda movement buff (see Ephraim), plus the skill points are nice, and at 7th level the BAB doesn't matter, and he is going mostly summoning route, sort of a NG version of any of the Denthians So basically 1 hp/level for +4 skills a level. Basically I end up being a divine bard, which ... well ... yea look at my career choice. |
| Erithmu05-17-07, 11:45 PM | Heh...I'm starting to wonder if I am the only one on board for that so far...haven't seen anyone else mention it much. Would be a shame to have created a campaign/quest character and not get to use it because the campaign doesn't get off the ground.... I told Mitza I would play if she needed more, Probably end up in another caster of some sort, I have a large hankering to try a Mystic Theruge. (I took the quiz in MWB's sig and have gotten it every time I have gone back to check something like 80% arcane 60% divine) I think she has about 3 people at the moment, but I'll let her speak for herself. |

I'd argue that assertion about BAB personally (the spell you're no doubt referring to is only 1 round/level, and until high levels you probably won't be able to prepare it enough to use it in every fight), and personally I'd rather have the hp than the skills, but okay. Whatever floats your boat I suppose. Zevox |

Well me for one are waiting to see if many Elfs show up before i deside what charater to take... if alot of Elves... will bring Rauul my cleric back for a campain.. or maybe Shadow (bards are useful in a party) Heck i don't know.. Basicly i am undecided Except for Graashnak (who is definately going Elf Slayer.. And really really hates Elves |

TM Cool beans, so that gives a human bard (Cupid), a human Fighter/PsyWar (Tessero), and an elven ranger (Garet Jax). So it looks like we could use a glass cannon of some kind (wizard/psion/sorcerer/wilder) and probably a cleric. BTW, for those that are already going...Garet's animal companion (light horse) is being used as a packhorse, so if you have need, there is some room. |

| Zevox05-18-07, 12:40 AM | Hm... actually, now that I think of it, I do have another character in that level range. Mindrel, the Mystic Theurge I got off of the UnCon contest and haven't done a thing with since. Not sure what I'll do with him RP-wise, but perhaps he could join in. Theurges aren't much good in the arena until later levels (in theory I think 8 should be good, but I expect you'll actually need 10 or so), but in a campaign could be another matter. Hm... Zevox |

Well Mitza was talking to me about the Corrupter... I could put off Joining EHTC.. cause i believe if i make the Miniquest to join i will level out of the range.. have to think about that.. Corrupter wouldn't mind the chance to Campain for Power and gain... and is a blaster with a Cleric cohort.. |
| Zevox05-18-07, 12:47 AM | no one said the glass cannon couldn't be mobile LOL I'm pretty sure he was referring to my character Istima. Definitely a cannon (you don't want to be hit by his Empowered Crystal Shards - just ask the Thought Slayer that the guys in Sauro's campaign ran into), but no glass (how many Psions do you know of with 70 hp pre-vigor?). Zevox |
| NiQil05-18-07, 12:47 AM | Also, for those that are on board or thinking about it...I need an opinion. I have the animal companion currently as a light horse....since it is going to be a packhorse and a non-combatant, I am thinking of changing it to a heavy horse or a camel. Camel's can carry more, but might be harder to explain in a town than a horse. Opinions? |
| Erithmu05-18-07, 12:49 AM | HP ranking in Sauro's campaign 1) Istma 70 2) Lemmi 54 3) Owen 51 4) Klip 41 5) Psi beast 38 (but this goes up to 60 most of the time in Metamorph form) yea ... the psion should be tanking ... |

Camel's can carry more, but might be harder to explain in a town than a horse. Opinions? Backstory, backstory, backstory ... What most people don't realize is that you have creative license to explain 'almost' any backstory. Sometimes you write the backstory, other times you write the character and build the backstory around it. |
| NiQil05-18-07, 12:52 AM | Go with a Wagon :) Undead mule and a wagon.. all you need to transport.. :) The animal companion is already going to be there, and I really have no other use for it. | Rauul05-18-07, 12:55 AM | in that case... i would go with the camel.. but yes the backstory would be nice.. Or save your Animal companion slot open and pick one up on the campain.. |

To put that in perspective for those not aware: Istima - Goblin Psion 9 Lemmi - Half-Giant Psychic Warrior 1/Cleric 6 Owen - Human Abjurer 5/Red Wizard 4 Kilp - Elan Cleric 1/Psion 7 Psibeast - Tiefling Psion 8 Zevox |
| Erithmu05-18-07, 12:59 AM | Good point....and a camel would definately be a conversation starter, if nothing else.... If you want an example ... take a look at a character I play over on the RA boards Shadowsong, Aasimar Spirit Shaman. (see sig) For RP aspect she is basically tribal and (self-imposed) illiterate. She also speaks as if she doesn't understand 'civilized' life, and (as hard as it is to type) speaks with very simple language and broken sentence structure. I dunno what books you have access to but maybe give him a desert survivalist background, or just give the camel a backstory (that could be fun). I know you have a very creative side in you Niqil, so time to show off. |

| Usurpator05-18-07, 06:23 AM | At least Borodin gets to suffer through the rest of his cycle sans horse. It was your character in Borordin's last fight that caused me to get the horse. I don't want a horse for him either, but the poorly defined delay rules make it mandatory for a slow mover to suicide himself on a faster archer. You really brought this one on yourself. I don't want Borodin to have the horse, I feel forced by the rules (and corresponding tactics). A melee character in CoCo with 20 ft. movement will simply never get into melee unless his opponent wants to do so, that is the sad truth. If opponents use mounts themselves this problem gets even bigger. |

The cheapest one is actually getting a mount (or multiple ones for that matter), you keep your own standard action, and get decent movement, 35 ft. move (20 + 15 from skate) generally doesn't cut it. Besides, I don't like to rely too much on expendables too. |

Okay, went over the fight. I have the feeling you made a lot of errors with the reach rules - once he enlarged, Arden should've had a reach of 15-20' with his Guisarme, meaning he should've drawn his greatsword a lot sooner, because he couldn't have struck with his Guisarme if Durin was 5-10' away. Still, that would only speed things up, since Durin wouldn't get the chance to counter-trip the one time that happened, and Arden would do more damage. Thanks for the run. Edit: Oh, you have Arden's free activity wrong (seriously, burglary??). He did Profession (Politican) for 161 gp. Edit 2: And the rewards seem to be a bit off. The horse should be a 5% adjustment for us, so 2205 xp and 2,730 gp for Arden and 665 xp and 822 gp for Durin. Zevox |

| Yitzi05-19-07, 10:33 PM | Yitzi, I think I totally forgot thanking you for running the fight. Thanks! Do you have any specific pointers or ideas? What would you have done differently? Gotten a wand of CLW at CL1, and put in the tactics to use it whenever below a certain number of hit points (possibly sacrificing spells to heal until you reach your limit, then using the wand). Someone with a wand of CLW and a high AC is a nightmare for most people (they pretty much have to sunder or disarm the wand before they can kill you). |

I imagine MWB may want to have summoned that Hippogriff rather than cast Entangle, but thats a pitlord call, so no big deal. I should point out that if Bishop was flying (as he should have been, to keep up with Ceilia) he shouldn't have been able to be entangled (no reach on the spell - you're either on the ground and vulnerable or you're not), and the same goes for Ceilia herself (being on Rook's back), but that doesn't make a difference either. Thanks for running it. @Zevox: I don't want to alienate you, but I was really turned off when you posted about "your guildmaster" running this fight, and how you had "high confidence" or whatever about Ceilia's chances because of it. I have a feeling you didn't really mean anything by it, but I don't want anyone implying that I'd bend rules or make exceptions for any character that's in my guild. I may as well quit if my moral compass is that easily swayed. Again, I'm sure you didn't mean anything by it, but I'd take it as a personal favor if you didn't even HINT at anything like that ever again. A small thing to ask, friend to friend (or at the very least) honorable competitor to honorable competitor. Or maybe I'm just taking this all a little too seriously. {shrug} Yeah, I think you're taking that too seriously, and misinterpreting it to boot. Take a look at what I wrote again. I commented on the irony of rolling you as the Pitlord because you're her Guildmaster (in the same breath/sentence as I commented on the irony of the map being favorable to Ceilia), and only implied I was confident by asking if anyone wanted to take bets - which was because I was confident about the fight to begin with (I had previously checked the EC 8 league and saw that Kervan was the only competitor this week and sized him up then, and even hinted at that in the start of those comments by saying I knew the fight was coming). Perhaps I could've made it more clear that my comment about was just in reference to irony, but I had thought I'd made myself well known around here for enjoying irony already, so I didn't even think the comment could be taken any other way. I'm sorry you mistook it for this. I certainly didn't mean to imply that that at all, and apologize if you still feel I did. Zevox |
| MindWandererB05-20-07, 01:42 AM | Kervan Sheharath vs. Ceilia Durrol is chronicled here. That's it for me, boys and girls! ... Where are all MY character's fights?! Don't you people have nothing better to do than to run my fights?! ;) I can't be the only one who can sit at a computer for 6 hours to finish two fights! <.< >.> {j/k, ya'll} I have to call your attention to the rules regarding the maps: Improved Cover: To benefit from Improved cover (+8 cover Ac, +4 reflex vs front attacks, improved evasion, +10 hide) a creature's front squares must be blocked by equally as many cover squares (medium creature behind pillar, small creature behind rock, etc). You cannot attack while using Improved cover as you have to press yourself against the obstacle. Not that it matters, since Rook moves straight into auto-spot range, but it's there. It might also be a good idea at this time to talk about whether abilities that are not designated as extraordinary, supernatural, or spell-like are indeed lost when a Polymorph-type spell is used. The FAQ says so, but it's generally not ruled that way. (Plus, if it's ruled that Kervan can't use his sword or bow while in Troglodyte form, I'm probably going to have to retire him on the spot, or at least modify him massively. That's a key element in his strategy--Rapid Shot and bow nonproficiency don't mix.) |
| Zevox05-20-07, 01:59 AM | ...wait, what? Since when do you lose anything of that sort when shape-shifting? News to me. (Looks up in FAQ). ...sounds kinda stupid if you ask me. The spell says abilities which fall into the specific category of "extraordinary special qualities not derived from class levels." Why should anything not classified as extraordinary, supernatural, or spell-like get automatically categorized as an extraordinary special quality?? *shakes his head* Nonsense, if you ask me. If it gets ruled like that FAQ entry indicates, I'm going to need to rearrange Mithos' feats, just so he doesn't lose his tripping when he alters into a Troglodyte, and indicate which of skill points specifically are human ones to boot! Thats just crazy. ...now, getting off that spontaneous rant - @ MWB - I've two questions for you amigo. First, what is it that you get next level that would give you better odds against Ceilia than you had now? I've looked over the Cleric 5th-level spells, plus your domain spell options, but I'm just not seeing it. Righteous Might is the biggest thing I can see, and personally I don't think thats a big enough boost, especially given its 1 round/level duration. And second, now that you've had a match against her, you have a better idea why Ceilia does so well? Given your comment in the tavern a few weeks back, I'm curious. Zevox |

Zevox Hard to tell from this fight, actually. You got lucky picking the right square right off the bat, before Kervan can buff (which he needs a lot of). Silence was just another nail in the coffin. Plus, Kervan's rolls were pretty crappy. This would have been a loss to just about anyone under those conditions. I'd have a much better idea of Celia's strengths if she were pitted against any of my other characters, at appropriate levels. (Also note that Kervan was a Failure only a few fights ago--his meteoric rise to over 1300 PR from less than 700 isn't really representative of his career.) Righteous Might is a nice spell, but the nicest thing is that it lets Kervan craft a Monk's Belt for +6 more AC right off the bat. And he can also get a CL 9 Magic Missile wand at that point. I also need to think about an ally; he was sinking points into Diplomacy for the future, but that's up in the air for many reasons now. And of course, next time I'll have a counterstrategy for if you pull this same stunt. |

You'd at best have probably just one more AC buff up, plus the summoned Hippogriff, before Silence went into effect, and an AC of 24 isn't tough for her to hit. And ah, its the items then. That makes sense. Magic Missiles would be a big problem for her, and that Monk's Belt would be an issue AC-wise too, to be sure. I see. That'd make him much tougher all right. Zevox |

So 1) Can someone pick up Dunerunner vs T'kiir (ECL 3) match, I have tactics and will forward them along. 2) (mostly for hogarth and yitzi) I am sorry that my quests have been behind. I have a paper due Wednesday at 8am that also requires my immediate attention. Hogarth has current priority as he is a couple weeks behind due to a combination of things. Yitzi's I still might be able to have done on time but it depends 100% on the paper. 3) Tactics for Arc hand will be written tonight and sent off, sorry Zevox. |

Two issues: 1. As far as I can tell - Darrgon only used 4 SLs in the fight (Acid Arrow, 2x SMI). It seems you noted Acid Arrow as 3SLs in the fight - so that seems to be the location of the error. 2. In the results - you need to specify what spells were cast. This is an issue I see commonly from pitlords - because it is important to note what has been cast for all types of arcane and divine casters (even spontaneous casters since they only have a certain number of slots per spell level). You can skip this for manifesters since they don't have that limitation - but otherwise it is needed. |

Well, technically Darrgon's summons should have had the chance to attack Kathren to kill her for him, but since she would just cast protections or run away for the 3 rounds it would take them to vanish its no big deal. | templer1005-21-07, 09:43 PM | I've often considered a psychic warrior sniper. Rapid Shot + Hustle for a move action to hide. Could possibly be nasty. Psychic warriors normally dont have that much PPS to be able to do taht more then 2-3 times in a fight. (At best), now a wilder/slayer or just reguler wilder who did the cheesest thing ever and grabbed hustle as an expanded knowladge power (so in level 2) - will give you many more hustles. |
| TheMagister05-21-07, 09:48 PM | Looks like the soonest a Psion could get Hustle would be lvl 5 (EK only lets you learn a power one level lower than one you can currently cast, right?). A wilder would get access to it at 4th level. If you go wilder you get fewer powers, but better BAB. If you go Psion you get more powers and better skill points and poorer BAB. Hmmm... TM |

I don't know what the rest of "us" decided, although Sauro was keen on it, I think. I actually don't recall coming to a formal decision... I think it was one of those discussions that just got sidetracked. In my home games, I read "manifester level" as "psionic caster level." So a bonus to "caster level" would apply to psionic characters, but a bonus to "manifester level" would apply only to psionic characters (just like a bonus to "arcane caster level" would apply only to wizards, sorcs, bards, etc. and not divine casters). I'm fine either way--but I don't see the inclusion of Mind's Eye as fixing the problem. It doesn't add a lot of what's "missing" from both UA and the core books. |

Well, the alternate races are not the problem. The variant classes-> Well, the Mind's Eye has got that. New Paragon classes are kind of similar to new prestige classes-> and the Mind's Eye has got a ton of new prestige // one base class for the psionic characters. I think that's pretty even. |

So for the record, you wouldn't mind having psionic Loremasters (another "+1 caster level" class) in the Core Coliseum? For my home game, I would probably allow psionic conversions of classes on a case-by-case basis, but I wouldn't allow blanket equivalences. For my home game, I'd allow it in a second. For the CoCo, let's take a look at the prereqs: Skills: Knowledge (any two) 10 ranks in each. Feats: Any three metamagic or item creation feats, plus Skill Focus (Knowledge [any individual Knowledge skill]). Spells: Able to cast seven different divination spells, one of which must be 3rd level or higher.Although the divination spell requirement could be met with clairsentience powers due to the transparency rules, the metamagic feat requirement could definitely not be met with metapsionics. But since item creation feats count as well, then a psionic character could potentially qualify. Note: This is true without any resolution on this particular question at all. A psion could meet the prereqs for loremaster. What's debatable is whether or not that would be a good idea (i.e. if the caster level increases would help. In this case, yes, I'd have no problem with psions being able to become Loremasters. As written, "newfound arcana" would have no effect, and converting it to PP would require a small house rule, but that would be the only bobble. Loremaster is the only PrC I see that would be an issue; although Thaumaturgists and Arcane Tricksters would also be able to improve manifesting abilities by this ruling; they have moderately steep casting requirements for other classes. |

Arcane Tricksters really don't. Just far-hand and 3rd level spells, which if you're allowing Loremasters to do than surely Arcane tricksters could do. Though, a expanded dorjes of crystal shard wielding uber-hider just sends the willies down my spine. |

Valen Sky is already kinda doing this. Without the rogue levels and sneak attack. He's going Ranger 2/Psion 4/Slayer 4/Shadow Dancer 2/Slayer +6/Psion +2. So he gets Cerebral Blind and Hide in Plain Sight. |

It's the SA progression that makes it super-dangerous. With your build you don't have that. |
| Yitzi05-22-07, 08:32 AM | 3 and a half hours after deadline to submit fights, and 5 fights, including one of mine, are not finished yet (so MitzaVolchenkoX2, Malither76, Sjiggie, Erithmu, and Macbrea take late penalties). And I'll be unavailable tonight and tomorrow, so I can't wait for it to go up 3 hours before time rolls like they sometimes do. |
| waywreth05-22-07, 08:49 AM | @ Templer10 & WaywrethI'm currently running your fight but I don't have the time to finish it now expect it to be run before the deadline. -Sjiggie Thank you for the update! |
| templer1005-22-07, 08:52 AM | btw- iam bored out of my skull so i can take another fight if someone needs. |

And I'll be unavailable tonight and tomorrow, so I can't wait for it to go up 3 hours before time rolls like they sometimes do. Deadline to submit fights is not for another 6 hours as of this post. No need to jump down people's throats, you know. edit-> If you're patient enough, I'd suggest running four characters & switch them out from week to week. That way you're unaffected by pitlords getting bogged down. [This is largely my strategy, and I found it to be nice since you can be more patient with pitlords] double edit-> I'm guessing there will be no penalty on the Zwei vs TBD fight since it was pending a rules clarification. That and I doubt any of the parties involved care if it's held over. |
| Macbrea05-22-07, 10:53 AM | It's very likely to be done anyways... as I am working on it today and tonight. At the rate it's going.. it could take quite a few rounds. |
| McJarvis05-22-07, 11:01 AM | It's likely the fight will get held over. I don't understand why Tessero can't jump over to the statue island while large-> he could easily squeeze upon landing after a jump. There's plenty of fights that have been run this way in the past, & TM/myself didn't get a chance to write tactics according to whatever was decided about the statue in the council. Having Tessero simply sit there & wait for Zwei to run out of arrows for twenty+ rounds is completely unreasonable. [Our team isn't made of money for wands, after all] |
| Macbrea05-22-07, 11:12 AM | Then argue that fight. I ran what I have. |
| Yitzi05-22-07, 11:35 AM | Deadline to submit fights is not for another 6 hours as of this post. No need to jump down people's throats, you know. Pitlords must post fights due Tuesday 9 AM GMT, it is currently about 3:30 p.m. GMT. |
| McJarvis05-22-07, 11:38 AM | quoterules thread, under starting out-deadlines The rule has changed-> There is a deadline at which time your assigned fight must be posted on the fights thread, in proper shape. | TelinArtho05-22-07, 11:54 AM | @MacBrea - it seems to me that Cupid successfully activates the wand in round 16 (DC20 check - roll was 1d20+10=20). If it does activate and does 3+ damage - the fight would be over long before the round 274 mark... |

| Macbrea05-22-07, 01:06 PM | Sorry.. thought it was 20+spell level.. fixing that now. |
| McJarvis05-22-07, 01:09 PM | Sorry.. thought it was 20+spell level.. fixing that now. In round 33 Cupid was at less than half hp & used her magic missile wand at Zwei. Instead she should have healed, unless her CLW wand was out of charges.[I didn't count] - edit-> Of course, I see the fight was over by that point now. Whatever.... |
| MindWandererB05-22-07, 01:17 PM | Re: Deadline changes: I didn't change anything. | Usurpator05-22-07, 01:48 PM | Okay, I am not sure if you wanted me to use the glaive or drop it to grapple. Please make that clear next time. Don't worry, you ran it near perfectly. The confusion sprang from the fact that I didn't repeat that a PC (as far as I know) doesn't actually need to grapple 'with his hands', and since a Monk's whole body can attack, Namara can simply start the grapple with her legs while still holding the Glaive in both hands. I wanted to grapple, but wanted to use a Glaive to see if I can do some extra damage on the first blow. You never know when such things might matter... |

(http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=12465123&postcount=883) Thanks for running it! @Usurpator You must add a prebuff section to your character sheet stating that your horse is with you. I am disallowing the horse because it is not properly pre-buffed. I know, just was confused with the new format of the requirements, it used to be that you were required to note your prebuffs only in the 3FC section, and not in a separate section (although that was the rule before the 3FC). I actually specifically did not want to bring my horse to the fight, since I didn't see any characters in the ECL 3 league that would require the use of a horse. And rather win fights without the use of a horse if said horse doesn't fit with the my character concept. More fun that way. And horses definitely don't fit Namara's character concept. She just has one as a kind of 'insurance policy' against other nasty horse users. I'm not as noble as NiQil to principally refuse the use of horses where unappropriate. Fortunately, none of the ECL3 gladiators forced me to take out this policy. :) |

TM |
| Macbrea05-22-07, 07:33 PM | Because I stopped moving him around the base. each time he double moves to the next side she only had to take a 5ft step toward the opposite side of the 10x10x15 statue to have full cover. http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=Name,M,10,45;b= Name,L,8,47;c=Name,M,13,49;style=s Hmm, is that 20ft or 25ft as I thought it was.. |

Please add in some glaive strikes on those rounds when Tessero "does nothing" (which I am shocked that you did). |
| Macbrea05-22-07, 07:59 PM | Actually, by the rules of cover she has cover when she stands at the edge. because if any corner of blues square crosses any corner of greens square through cover she has cover. |
| MindWandererB05-22-07, 08:04 PM | Actually, by the rules of cover she has cover when she stands at the edge. because if any corner of blues square crosses any corner of greens square through cover she has cover. Yes, but not total cover. There's no way for her to have total cover from a 10' tall character here--TM's cross-section illustration shows it nicely. |
| Macbrea05-22-07, 08:29 PM | By the template for Large Tall with reach on page 308 of the DMG she cannot be hit with a reach weapon from a large tall creature. I would assume a humanoid is large tall vs large long. |
| TheMagister05-22-07, 08:37 PM | I don't understand what you mean. I see the template, but it only agrees with what I'm telling you. Tessero can reach 4 squares while expanded and wielding a reach weapon. Counting the squares from Tessero's space to Zwei's space, we get 4 squares. Therefore, Tessero can reach her. I don't understand what's confusing you. |
| MindWandererB05-22-07, 08:37 PM | By the template for Large Tall with reach on page 308 of the DMG she cannot be hit with a reach weapon from a large tall creature. I would assume a humanoid is large tall vs large long. Oh... right, I forgot that only the first corner is "free." It's odd that she's 10' further than a 10' reach can get to, but she's considered 25' away. @TM: I count 5 squares. Two diagonals and two horizontals makes five. |
| Erithmu05-22-07, 08:39 PM | Remember to account for Tessero's height of 10ft as well. reaching 20ft out and 5 ft up? (I might be missing stuff) |
| Macbrea05-22-07, 08:41 PM | The template looks like: http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=Name,M,10,45;b= Name,L,8,47;c=Name,M,13,49;d=Name,G,7,51 ;e=Name,C,5,50;f=Name,G,10,48;style=s;op acity=50 Exactly how does that agree? |
| MitzaVolchenko05-22-07, 08:41 PM | Yes, but not total cover. There's no way for her to have total cover from a 10' tall character here--TM's cross-section illustration shows it nicely. I'll be kind and not demand spot checks for Tessero to even target her with an attack since she did have cover (and concealment from darkness). Then we can make Macbrea go back and add in miss chance rolls too for each attack assuming that Tessero managed a spot. Take your victory and be happy about it, guys :) And stop with the confusiticating maps...blonde is tired and hates trying to visualize one map overlayed onto another :P |
| TheMagister05-22-07, 08:42 PM | AH! I think I see your confusion! Read pg. 149 of the PHB, "Big and Little Creatures in Combat" and that should clear it up for you. Basically, the only thing that you count are the "squares", you don't do the 5' => 15' thing, exactly. You'll see. TM |
| Macbrea05-22-07, 08:43 PM | Remember to account for Tessero's height of 10ft as well. reaching 20ft out and 5 ft up? (I might be missing stuff) Our views are side viiews.. My last one takes the template from page 308 of the DMG and applies reach weapon to it for a large(tall) creature. |
| Macbrea05-22-07, 08:46 PM | Are the templates in the back of the DMG correct, yes or no? |
| TheMagister05-22-07, 08:49 PM | The template looks like: http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=Name,M,10,45;b= Name,L,8,47;c=Name,M,13,49;d=Name,G,7,51 ;e=Name,C,5,50;f=Name,G,10,48;style=s;op acity=50 Exactly how does that agree? You're not thinking in 3D, I don't think. Lessee...you're always supposed to use the shortest distance: http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=Lava,L,10,45,la va;b=Tess,L,8,47,tessero;c=Zwei,M,13,49, zwei;d=one,F,10,48,one;e=two,F,11,49,two ;f=thre,F,12,49,three That's four squares. Reach ignores the "diagonals count as 15'" rule. |
| MindWandererB05-22-07, 08:53 PM | I see the confusion. Yes, the templates are correct. The only exception to the rule that 2 squares of diagonal distance=15 feet is with a reach of exactly 10 feet. Beyond that, you use the normal distance rules. So 1 diagonal square is 5 feet, and 2 is 10 feet, but a 3rd square (diagonal or not) is 20 feet. |
| Macbrea05-22-07, 08:55 PM | The template I used is called and I will quote: Large [tall] Space: 2 squares [10feet] Reach: 2 squares [10feet] With Reach weapon : 4 squares [20feet] I am pretty sure that is the correct template to use and all templates are considered three dimensional. |
| TheMagister05-22-07, 09:03 PM | I see the confusion. Oh, wow. Is that boneheaded or what? Well, at least have him shoot his bow, or something. Just standing there is pretty dumb. How about using Cupid's whip to disarm her? ANYTHING. |
| Macbrea05-22-07, 09:09 PM | A single bow shot vs a monk with deflect arrows was a waste of resources when cupid was still fighting. Cupids whip is 15ft reach but cupid would have to come down there instead of applying damage to Zwei. Tessero could run up and grab the undersized whip that he isn't proficient in at -6 to hit with it. But this then becomes a crazy improvisation for the pitlord. |
| MitzaVolchenko05-22-07, 09:10 PM | Oh, wow. Is that boneheaded or what? Well, at least have him shoot his bow, or something. Just standing there is pretty dumb. How about using Cupid's whip to disarm her? ANYTHING. She deflects, but I would be happy for Cupid to walk over and hand him the whip. I am fine with more rounds in which to damage them while Cupid moves over :) |
| Macbrea05-22-07, 09:11 PM | Also. I am not sure the reach of a medium sized whip in a large creaturs hands. I think it's still 15ft reach. By the FAQ. |
| Macbrea05-22-07, 09:12 PM | Win is still a win for you guys right? |

| templer1005-22-07, 09:32 PM | Good god you guys complain.. you used 270gp worth of charges on level 1 wands. to gain 3k worth of gold? pff - i wish any fight of mine only cost 270g sigh - but then my style always been - when in doubt - throw money on the problem until it dies - usually works. :D |
| Macbrea05-22-07, 09:39 PM | Technically.. it cost them alittle more.. they also used 3 charges of a resist energy wand. But that was in the tactics for the first three turns of Cupid. Everything later is based off 'if hps drop below half heal' (7 charge CL 1) and 'if cupid cannot reach opponent with whip, blast with wand of magic missles' (11 charges CL 1) |
| McJarvis05-22-07, 09:49 PM | I said I'd be quiet, but I guess I lied. All @Mac: Here's the deal: Tessero did nothing for 30 rounds. This is completely unacceptable no matter what way you look at it. Especially given that his tactics were to engage Zwei in melee, he could have easily dismissed the expansion & made the jump to the island. This would have been better than nothing. Cupid could have dropped prone to add on to her AC from cover AC. You could have had tessero ready shots for when Zwei was shooting. Tessero could have taken the whip & used that to attack. There was alot that could have been done-> but you did nothing. nothing. This goes beyond "Well, you didn't specify it in your tactics"-> there is no way to account for everything in tactics. You can't just not improvise and stick it to the players when it's this dramatic. What do we see on the other end? Despite a lack of tactics involving sniping, we see you trying to add sniping into Mitza's tactics(even though this was illegal, your intent was still there). Can you really blame us for feeling like you hosed us on the "using up all our wand charges" end of things? From all appearances you came upon a battle where you perceived Zwei as having a disadvantage & wanted to help her out-> or worse, you wanted to run out some of TBD's money, as you are so adamant about using your own characters to do to others. [See Wand of Magic Missile vs Brooch of Shielding] Needless to say: I really think you handled this unfairly for no good reason. It ended up being Cupid vs Zwei & Cupid won, but had to spend extra gp b/c you just arbitrarily removed Tessero from the equation. |
| Macbrea05-22-07, 09:53 PM | Very well. I will go back to the round he couldn't reach her drop his expansion. Which I felt was a horrid waste of an expendable in your case. And jump the lava. Even though your tactics suggest you wish to fight from outside the lava. I will then attempt to climb up to her position and see if she is able to bull rush tessero off the statue. This should check curiosity on wether it was possible. Normally. if someone puts up a half hour long expansion and cannot be hurt during that entire half hour by an opponent. I would not later disadvantage them by taking down the buff the put up. It was to his advantage that he have the buff up. |

I know the inclination in these kind of matters is to say "tough luck"[especially so late in the week!], so anything you give us is greatly appreciated :) |

I know the inclination in these kind of matters is to say "tough luck"[especially so late in the week!], so anything you give us is greatly appreciated :) Well i don't know about mac... but my first inclination was to ask you where on your tactics you say to dismiss a power (standard action) second was to to ask you what good is tripping gonna do you when she is already prone... but thats just me.. |
| NiQil05-22-07, 10:05 PM | That would be due to the fact that Kai Engel broke it (admittedly with a small Adamantine Greatsword, but still...), making it hard to use. Edit: Thanks for the run. Also thanks for the reminder that dismissible spells take an action to do. Sorry about that. And I did tell Niqil to get that character a weapon, but did he listen... Nooo.... :) This character wasn't really designed to be successful in the arena. He has the potential to be, but he wasn't designed that way. I have been wanting to make a character who relies solely on the elements for his damage for quite some time...just never put it down on paper. And besides....if even one of those last 2 energy rays had hit, he still would have won. Just had crappy dice. |

| NiQil05-22-07, 10:17 PM | Remember: It's just not a NiQil character unless he's handicapping himself in some way ;) There may actually be something to that....but I am still fairly successful even without all of the stuff I refuse to use (expendables, healing, allies, etc). Imagine what I could do if I played it your way :P |

| Macbrea05-22-07, 10:47 PM | Well. edited.. Tessero ended with less hps and a desire to train greater then a climb of 1d20-2 when needing 2 successful climb checks to climb 15ft. |
| TheMagister05-22-07, 11:09 PM | ...which is why I didn't push for the climbing strat...it was a losing proposition. Providing soft cover and just playing meatshield while Cupid went prone would've been much better. You're done Mac. Thanks for all your hard work! TM |
| Macbrea05-23-07, 01:01 AM | If it makes you feel any better. 11 charges from a wand of magic missile caster level 1 = 11d4+11 damage. Average damages = (2.5 x 11) + 11 = 38.6 Zwei has 36 hps. 10d4+10 ~ 35 damage You rolled average on those shots. |
