| TelinArtho05-09-07, 11:35 AM | Fights of the Week: May 9th Please don't edit the sheet after the deadline or you will lose the match. Rules of Gladius All that you need to know is written in the Rules of Gladius. It could be useful also to give a look to the Court Decisions Part 1 and Part 2. Please do not make fake accounts or insult the Elders. Pairings GM MindwandererB will pair the active Characters of Gladius after the deadline. Make sure that your character is not in prison. Pitlording You should use the CoCo Dice Roller (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com) for the fight. If you need it, there is a nice template ready to use that will help. You could find the Battle Map Tag Generator (http://www.hwx.it/coco) for dynamic Maps very useful. You must post a link to your fight in this thread when it is complete. If you need a quick and dirty tool to calculate distances between two points (in 2-D or 3-D), this tool (http://wormhole.ath.cx/coco/coco_dist.php) should suffice. Another useful link is the Quick Access tables for XP and Gold. If a fight needs to be rerun, the Pitlord has to inform the Pitlords account. He cannot react to requests from Players because the other player and the pitlord might disagree. He has no time to read the fight and the discussion. Please keep that in mind. PMs from players with rerun requests won't have an impact. Recent News and Developments The Iron Man tournament continues this week - good luck to all involved. The semi-finals are post-poned one week for outstanding matches. Comments & Concerns Post any comments or concerns for this weeks fights in this thread. Be kind and courteous to your fellow posters, and don't feed the pitlords. Please remember that they do hard work and consume a lot of time to let you play. Above all, have FUN! If you have questions or comments on any of the changes, please make your posts be heard in the Council of Gladius! |
| McJarvis05-09-07, 12:24 PM | Sing on, the battlesong! Merry Christmas TM :-) |
| TelinArtho05-09-07, 12:40 PM | @Guildlords/Pitlords - It appears that Sir Valkin's mission won't be completed on time. As such - don't remove it from the post in the battles thread (Pitlords) and ignore the silvered out lines in the CEF guild actions for the week (Guildlords). The questlog says that he has failed - but that is not the current state of the mission. EDIT: Also - who rolls up the random monster for the Guardian for CEF? Do I get to assign it equipment according to its treasure line/CR? |
| TheMagister05-09-07, 12:45 PM | Can I design/run the monk? {evil grin} |
| TheMagister05-09-07, 12:46 PM | Sing on, the battlesong! Merry Christmas TM :-) {clasps hands to breast} Can it be? Is it true? JOY! p.s. - check your pm box for some "updates". |
| TelinArtho05-09-07, 12:46 PM | Can I design/run the monk? {evil grin} Why? I didn't get to design the Cleric of Denth.... I still can't get over the unarmored Cleric... |
| TheMagister05-09-07, 12:48 PM | {pats hands in the air defensively} Hey, no harm in asking, right? Somebody's got to do it, after all, and it may as well be someone whose heart is somewhat behind it. |
| Zevox05-09-07, 12:55 PM | EDIT: Also - who rolls up the random monster for the Guardian for CEF? Do I get to assign it equipment according to its treasure line/CR? I'm pretty sure that one falls to whoever gets assigned to pitlord it, just like with any other random monster fight. Zevox |
| McJarvis05-09-07, 01:02 PM | {clasps hands to breast} Can it be? Is it true? JOY! p.s. - check your pm box for some "updates". Now that I have my hands on a wand of silence, I think we're going to be activating TBD more often. Turtle wand slinging is quite the fun pasttime ;) |
| McJarvis05-09-07, 01:03 PM | Why? I didn't get to design the Cleric of Denth.... I still can't get over the unarmored Cleric... I don't know what you're talking about. General Zaroff planned ahead & defended the district while the guy was clothes shopping. You just can't wear armor when you're going to be changing outfits 10-20 times to see what fits! |
| MindWandererB05-09-07, 01:33 PM | I'm pretty sure that one falls to whoever gets assigned to pitlord it, just like with any other random monster fight. Zevox Right, the pitlord "gets" to randomly assign (and equip, and customize if necessary) both the guardian and the attacker (with the restriction that the guardian will be Lawful Good... yes, even if it's a demon). However, Telin gets to write the tactics for the guardian, even if it's unintelligent. It will be an interesting situation. |
| Yitzi05-09-07, 01:37 PM | Now that I have my hands on a wand of silence, I think we're going to be activating TBD more often. Turtle wand slinging is quite the fun pasttime ;) What's TBD? |
| Zevox05-09-07, 01:50 PM | What's TBD? The Battlesong Duet. The only team we have in the normal arena roster, consisting of TM's Psychic Warrior Tessero Valis and McJarvis' Bard Cupid de Locke. Zevox |
| TheMagister05-09-07, 02:16 PM | And we're moderately successful, I'd like to think. |
| Maraxus05-09-07, 02:25 PM | Oh, I just saw a little think in Durin vs. Maya... Maya wins and gains 1,800/2,000 * 75% = 1,350xp/1,500gp Durin loses and gains 600/666 * (1/4)*25%= 562 xp/624gp So, we get ally penalties but no bonusses from the opponent's allies? Should be Maya wins and gains 1,800/2,000 - (3/4 x 25)% = 1462 xp / 1625 gp Durin loses and gains 600/666 + (3/4 x 25)%= 712 xp / 790 gp shouldn't it? (*goes checking*) Edith sais: Yes it should *copy to Pitlord* |
| Yitzi05-09-07, 02:30 PM | Yes it should. |
| Vathelokai05-09-07, 02:38 PM | How much time we have to deadline? I was supprised with a day off, so I might actually get to activate someone  |
| McJarvis05-09-07, 02:39 PM | How much time we have to deadline? I was supprised with a day off, so I might actually get to activate someone  ~20 minutes |
| TelinArtho05-09-07, 02:56 PM | Right, the pitlord "gets" to randomly assign (and equip, and customize if necessary) both the guardian and the attacker (with the restriction that the guardian will be Lawful Good... yes, even if it's a demon). However, Telin gets to write the tactics for the guardian, even if it's unintelligent. It will be an interesting situation. Okay - so then one final question: In the event of a loss for the guardian - how is damage calculated? The reason I ask is because there is a 250 point swing in defense in Gawane this week (Sir Valkin finishes his quest - which means 1000 NEG points are applied and now Gawane is Indifferent towards CEF). Prior to this week, Defense was at -150. After this week's GAPs (well - free action) - it rises to +100. Of course I'm hoping the guardian wins - but I'd like to know what the maximum damage is... |

You announce the improvement this week; since the attacker was delayed by the "interception," it doesn't arrive until after the improvement takes effect. If the attacker succeeds, the damage is incurred on May 16. |
| TelinArtho05-09-07, 03:10 PM | Cool! So Sir Valkin's success just reduced the potential damage from 1000/(-150+1000) * 1000 = 1176 down to 1000/(100+1000) * 1000 = 909 Go CEF!!! |
| Zevox05-09-07, 03:19 PM | A warning to the Guildmasters: the Guild actions will be posted late today. I have work for 6 hours this evening, starting in about 40 minutes, so they'll but up later tonight after I get back. Zevox |

| TelinArtho05-09-07, 04:05 PM | Monsieur Hood's monster info is up. Such that it is anyway. Too bad he wasn't landbound or on a smaller map... it would've been fun to put him up against a pair of Bullettes... |
| Maraxus05-09-07, 04:25 PM | Wait, this week, Balrog is clearly set Ready for May 9th [Fight 1] Right time, right line but not paired. |
| MindWandererB05-09-07, 04:29 PM | Wait, this week, Balrog is clearly set Ready for May 9th [Fight 1] Right time, right line but not paired. Prison. |
| Maraxus05-09-07, 04:32 PM | Prison. No. |
| Rauul05-09-07, 04:33 PM | Prison. Balrog is in prison? Cool maybe him and shadow can arrange an escape.. newest prison update is here tho (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=12312470&postcount=1229) and no Balrog  |

Cool maybe him and shadow can arrange an escape.. newest prison update is here tho (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=12312470&postcount=1229) and no Balrog  Players will be given a maximum of four weeks from the time they receive a red violation in which to fix this violation. If it is not fixed by the end of that 4 week period, that player will have all characters they run except the one of the lowest ECL placed in prison until the issue is fixed. The player will only be allowed to have that single character active as long as the violation remains unfixed. If there are more than one character to choose from at the lowest ECL of characters on the roster for the player, one will be chosen at random by me to leave active.Zassl (Maraxus) Violation (4)That's why. |
| Macbrea05-09-07, 04:40 PM | Wasn't Zassl in IMT? |
| Rauul05-09-07, 04:43 PM | That's why. well that explains it... and gives me another page to watch... (also explains why i still believe that players who go red need at least 1 PM from the prisonlord so that they know incase they didn't know beforehand) |
| templer1005-09-07, 04:43 PM | i need a clarification - when casting while mount is moveing - it's just DC 10 when doing normal move - true? when do you get to DC 15? double move or run? on another note- i pity telin that got to pitlord elrick VS mara redwine- those are going to be looong tactics from me probably- never faced off against a great reknown before. |
| MindWandererB05-09-07, 04:47 PM | Wasn't Zassl in IMT? He was, but 1) he's out now, and 2) just because you're allowed to participate in IMT despite violations doesn't mean you don't have to fix them. |
| TelinArtho05-09-07, 04:55 PM | well that explains it... and gives me another page to watch... (also explains why i still believe that players who go red need at least 1 PM from the prisonlord so that they know incase they didn't know beforehand) Its been said before and I'll say it again - it is everyone's responsibility to keep abreast of the violations on their characters. This state takes 4 weeks to come into effect - and you can see all of the current violations on characters on the roster of the prison thread easily with links directly to them. |

Arg. - Hey, out of my active characters this week, Balrog is the lowest (and only). - (But okay, I see this does not count) - Yes, I know I fixed the problem a few weeks ago, but now that you mention it, I think I never contacted the one that reported it (who was it?) - (So, yes, I see it's partially my fault) - However: If the violation is still pending, why isn't it mentioned in the prison?? On the latest Roll Call, Zassl is not mentioned. |

And My first charater Rauul was red 2 before Mitza told me i should look in the prison thread.. I didn't know there was a prison thread.. All i am saying is that once a Charater goes red.. would it really be that hard for the Prisonlord to send a PM saying your charater named dumbbutt is in prison.. with a link to the violation page? |
| TheMagister05-09-07, 05:19 PM | Aight. @Telin - Hood tactics sent via PM. |
| Erithmu05-09-07, 05:19 PM | Arg. - Hey, out of my active characters this week, Balrog is the lowest (and only). - Yes, I know I fixed the problem a few weeks ago, but now that you mention it, I think I never contacted the one that reported it (who was it?) - Most important: If the violation is still pending, why isn't it mentioned in the prison?? On the latest Roll Call, Zassl is not mentioned. 1: No Durin is 2: That falls on you 3: Roll call only deals with the last 3 weeks, since Zassl would be on week 4 he wouldn't be on the roll Call |
| TheMagister05-09-07, 05:37 PM | @Zevox - ooh, somebody got their wish. Rubicanti (TheMagister) vs. Arden Tarmik (Zevox): Rauul (Sewer) And Arden on fight 1 and all tricked out with new toys, and Rubi all drained of expendables and crammed into a nice, tight place with nowhere to run. You lucky dog. This one is totally in your favor. But we never surrender! {ragged cheer} TM |

| Maraxus05-09-07, 05:50 PM | Yes, I see. 1. Well, that's why I say active. Durin is sitting out because I just got him ready now (was a lot to level and buy on him). 2. Agreed 3. Why that? And then ... why doesn't it say so. I find it very, very ... unintuitive, that an inactive character of mine, not mentioned in the prison update, can be responsible for my active character not getting paired. Okay, I see the reason in removing every character of a violator, to punish him for holding faulty character our game (I don't support that idea, but I accept it). However, if Zassl is still "in the game" (yes, maybe I will at some point reactivate him), than it makes absolutly no sense to remove him from the roll call. Why should I check characters on the big list if I don't even want to play them? Plus, when there is a clause that one character may still fight, I can see no reason why a character should not fight, because there is another character not doing anything. Makes no sense, too., this should be the lowest active character. I find it plain boring to pitlord a week without having a character active, this feels somewhat like working for void. But okay, I accept it, but I request this rules to be changed. - If characters can still influence the weekly pairings, they should be in the Roll Call. And in this box about what the violations mean, it should say, that it can block everybody else. Well, basicly that's it. I'd like to see, that "punish the player" removed, too, imho that's a bad rule. I think faulty characters should not get paired, but it should not effect correct characters. But here I bow to your will, if you think this is good for some reason. |
| Eluria05-09-07, 05:53 PM | @Pitlords/MWB: Mohmat levelled and is ECL4 now, but is paired against an ECL3 character (Kazero Zenigame); I'm not sure if it's too late to split them... sorry! If you're short on pitlords, I have been planning on trying to get starting pitlording an ECL3 fight or two; I would be happy to run a monster fight for Kazero... Thanks, -e |

Thanks, -eAll right, here's the score: Kazero Zenigame (Aura_Blade) vs. Unknown Monster : Zevox [Arena] Unknown Monster vs. Mohmat Iptomor (Eluria) : Sjiggie [Plains]Thanks for the offer, but I'd rather not pair a first-time player with a first-time pitlord. Sjiggie +1 credit. |

| McJarvis05-09-07, 06:10 PM | Well, basicly that's it. I'd like to see, that "punish the player" removed, too, imho that's a bad rule. I think faulty characters should not get paired, but it should not effect correct characters. But here I bow to your will, if you think this is good for some reason. You likely won't see this change. The powers that be very much believe in punishing people for stepping out of line too often or for too long. |
| MindWandererB05-09-07, 06:20 PM | You likely won't see this change. The powers that be very much believe in punishing people for stepping out of line too often or for too long. Geez... it it just me, or have you gotten a lot more cynical lately? I don't know why NiQil and Cat instutited this policy, but I'd guess that it's a pain in the butt for NiQil to track violations week after week that don't get fixed. If you haven't even noticed a prison violation for six weeks, you should probably just retire the character anyway, save Prisonlords a lot of trouble, and bring them back out of retirement when you plan on fixing them. |
| Eluria05-09-07, 06:39 PM | Thanks for the offer, but I'd rather not pair a first-time player with a first-time pitlord. Sjiggie +1 credit. Probably a smart move; thanks MWB. |
| McJarvis05-09-07, 06:50 PM | Geez... it it just me, or have you gotten a lot more cynical lately? I don't really see the cynicism in my statement. You guys(meaning you & the council) do prefer to keep a legalistic approach to everything-> you admitted it yourself in the tavern in reference to Cat not being prepared for it upon reactivating his characters. |
| Yitzi05-09-07, 07:52 PM | Tactics for Dunerunner and Arbin sent-both to templer10, and both are fighting NiQil's characters (and both opponents have initials TR, but that is true of half of NiQil's characters) |
| MindWandererB05-09-07, 08:21 PM | @Telin and Zevox: One set of confident tactics, and one set of unconfident ones have been sent. |
| Sjiggie05-09-07, 09:06 PM | @Eluria Mohmat (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=12349789&postcount=850) Monster info is up good luck @Rauul Shadow's miniquest will start tommorrow |
| Macbrea05-09-07, 09:17 PM | @McJarvis: Hey.. do I get some info on my unknown monster before I write tactics for it? Thow me a bone here... is there 1 or 20 of them? Bigger the a breadbox, smaller then an elephant? |
| NiQil05-09-07, 09:35 PM | Regarding the prison issues: 1) The reason that Balrog is in prison is because Zassl has been in violation for 6 weeks. As stated in the rules thread, when a character reaches their 4th week of a red violation, all other characters owned by the player except for the one at the lowest ECL are also imprisoned until the violation is fixed. In the case where the lowest ECL has more than one character, the player not imprisoned is randomly determined. That is the reason that Durin is the only character of yours that is currently available to activate. Whether you choose to do so or not is your call, not mine. 2) The reason that violations like those belonging to Zassl are not in the roll call is that the roll call only shows violations that have a status change. Either new (green, blue or gray), on trial (yellow), or in prison (red). From there, the only thing that changes about a red violation is the number of weeks the violation has been red. When it hits 4, #1 above results. The reason for this is that more often than not, the characters that hit 4 weeks of red violations are PC's that belong to players who are no longer participating, and there is no need to report the same violation in the roll call if it has not had a change to it's violation status. 3) I direct this at everyone...not trying to single anyone out: As I tell everyone, and will continue to tell everyone, the rules of the prison are very direct. They aren't real complicated. If you follow them, you should have no problems. If you don't, more than likely you will. Each player is responsible for policing their own characters. If you can't be bothered to keep track of what happens to your own players, then I would conjecture that maybe a trimming of the number of characters you have around might be something to examine. In any event, only the player can be held responsible for the status of his PC's at any given time. All of this may sound extremely abrupt and harsh. It's not intended this way. But this seems to be a recurring issue lately, where parties do not want to take responsibility for their on PC's issues, and it can be rather tiresome to repeat oneself over and over.So please don't feel like I am trying to come down on anyone....I'm just trying to make sure everyone is crystal clear. |
| Zevox05-09-07, 11:17 PM | i need a clarification - when casting while mount is moveing - it's just DC 10 when doing normal move - true? when do you get to DC 15? double move or run? Actually, there is no concentration check at all for a normally moving mount. On a double move, its concentration DC 10+spell level, and on a running one its DC 15+spell level. This is outlined in the mounted combat rules. Casting Spells while Mounted: You can cast a spell normally if your mount moves up to a normal move (its speed) either before or after you cast. If you have your mount move both before and after you cast a spell, then you’re casting the spell while the mount is moving, and you have to make a Concentration check due to the vigorous motion (DC 10 + spell level) or lose the spell. If the mount is running (quadruple speed), you can cast a spell when your mount has moved up to twice its speed, but your Concentration check is more difficult due to the violent motion (DC 15 + spell level). Matthis Dar'ath III (waywreth) => Lord Lorian (templer10) => Mithos Durrol (Zevox) : Maraxus [Cavern] [Hunter] Ah, shoot, the pairingsmaker does not like Mithos. An FFA last week that drains him of most of his spells and both of his shield scrolls, and now he has to fight a hunter match. I'm not foreseeing good things from this one... Rubicanti (TheMagister) vs. Arden Tarmik (Zevox) : Rauul [Sewer] And what the pairingsmaker hath taken from Mithos, it hath given to Arden. This is so too good to be true. Not only does Arden get his revenge, he gets the perfect map for it too. Enclosed enough that Rubi can't avoid melee, but big enough that Arden has plenty of time to buff. And best of all, when he wins this, Arden levels up and finally becomes a Warmind. Oh, this so makes up for Mithos' pairing  . Edit: @ MWB & Macbrea - Tactics for Kervan and Relanex received (you guys are fast!). Expect it to be run tomorrow. Zevox |

I was told that in the event of a violation going red and no update from the person that listed the violation, Prisonlords checked to see if it was fixed prior to tagging them with a red violation. If this isn't the case, it needs to be. I have had to PM Prisonlords to get a violation removed in the past because the person that issued it didn't/ wouldn't/couldn't update the violation. I have tossed up the suggestion several times that Prisonlords could and should toss a PM to those at risk of red violations. It isn't a ton of work and might go a good way toward creating good will. Heck, I offered to be Bailiff for no credits and do that, since it is entirely optional for the person issuing the violation to tell the person. I have been told by NiQil "I don't need help," and by Cat "If they can't be bothered to check the prison, they don't deserve to get to play." Those statements aren't, IMO, much in keeping with the spirit of a community game, but I don't like getting yelled at, so I gave up on trying to get prison reforms. So at risk of ugliness coming my direction, do people want me to scan the prison each week and send PM's to folks with violations? |

It is each person's responsibility as a player and member of this forum to be responsible for their own characters. If they can't be bothered to do that, then they have no one to blame but themselves. No, I do not check each violation to see if it has been fixed by the person who has the violation. I do, however, check each week to see if the violation post has been changed. If it has, then the violation is removed. If it hasn't, then the violation progresses. It is not my responsibility to determine the validity and/or status of each person's character as it relates to any violations reported. It is my job to enforce what happens if the owner of the PC does not do it themselves. There seems to be this driving force to want to have someone else to blame if a person's character goes to Prison. But the bottom line is, if that happens, in all but the rarest cases, the only one to blame is oneself. In those rare cases, where a member has a violation and they have indicated to me that they have done all of the things necessary to have their violation removed and the person reporting it has not attended to the issue, then I step in. Then I determine if the violation is fixed or not, and proceed accordingly. This happens most often when violations are reported by parties who then stop participating here. I can count the number of times this has happened so far this calendar year on one hand. So that is certainly not the issue. To be blunt, in my eyes, people are getting lazy. Everyone but the newest of the new knows the Prison thread is there, and everyone knows that they need to watch it for violations on their characters. Failing to do this is their own fault, and no one elses. And now that I am quite irritated (at no one in particular, just at the fact that this keeps coming up time and time again), I am finished speaking on this issue. End of line. |
| TelinArtho05-10-07, 01:07 AM | @Zevox - if you can post or send via PM the monster I get to write tactics for - I will send them along in the morning (early afternoon). |
| Zevox05-10-07, 01:53 AM | @Zevox - if you can post or send via PM the monster I get to write tactics for - I will send them along in the morning (early afternoon). Right, that one. I'll roll the monster and stat up the Monk tomorrow. Incidentally, would it be all right with you and MWB if I took TM up on his offer to write the tactics for the Monk (or design him even)? I know that, being Guildmaster (EHTC), I do have an obvious preference for the winner here, and I'd like to avoid possibly favoring the monk in the tactics that I write because I have full knowledge of the monster. I'm sure I can run the fight just fine once the tactics are taken care of, but its probably best if I don't come up with the strategy for the Monk at least, and if I could let TM design it as well that would be all the better. Zevox |
| Maraxus05-10-07, 02:51 AM | And I'm going to respond to this in the same way. Well, to end your irritation: The problem here is, that I find that I am unfairly punished for a minor mistake on my side. 1st, the rules thread is really big by now, nobody can know every rule by hard. Therefor the rules should be intuitive, either you know a rule or you see that there is something you don't know and need that you need to check the rules. In this point, this is not the case. "Character faulty -> Faulty character imprisoned" makes sense. "Character faulty -> Player imprisoned" does not. 2nd, well, I fixed Zassl's violation and next week I did not see him in the prison update - to me this sounds like he got removed, because it is hard to understand, that this post only mentiones changes (Why? You simply need to quote your last week) - and more specificly changes in the color, when there are diffrent levels of action in a single color. 3rd, the part about the save character is very haphazard. It would be even fairer to leave that out (So, Balrog, got imprisoned because Durin exists - what a violation). Of course it would be even better to replace it with something fairer. (But 1 and 2 are more important) You wonder why this comes up time and time again? Well, maybe because it's not only the fault of the players. I did, what I believed to be my responsibility (check the prison, through obviously not the parts of the prison you meant - but what you mean I can not know). It will happen again, unless the rules change, so don't simply declare that topic closed for you. PS: Okay, one week sitting out is not to much but without need to make tactics I have some time to exaggerate. :raincloud |
| MitzaVolchenko05-10-07, 03:00 AM | Maraxus, hon, NiQil has declared that topic closed repeatedly. You are right, it keeps coming up because it is a legitimate issue. While I agree with the imprisoning the player until they fix or retire a character, I also think that relying on someone to send a PM when they imprison someone or bothering to get back and fix their post tag is a problem. I inadvertently left a couple of people in prison when I got sick. I wasn't reading the boards and had I thought of it, I would have had Macbrea log in as me and fix it. Was it their fault? Absolutely not. Was it mine? Yep, but not much I could really do about it...real world first. So what do we do about it? Remove the rule about all characters being unpairable? I wouldn't mind that. Assign someone the responsibility to be Bailiff and send out summons to the prison? Sure, I'll even volunteer. I have run afoul on both sides of the prison, and while it serves a good purpose, I do think we could improve on it. |
| templer1005-10-07, 03:11 AM | Ah, shoot, the pairingsmaker does not like Mithos. An FFA last week that drains him of most of his spells and both of his shield scrolls, and now he has to fight a hunter match. I'm not foreseeing good things from this one... Zevox and lord lorian has 19 SP for that match..... :D |
| templer1005-10-07, 03:48 AM | telin- tactics for elrick flamebrother VS mara sent, GL to MWB- probably feel to you like you are fighting yourself.... |
| MindWandererB05-10-07, 04:14 AM | There's another level-up I missed; here's the consequence: Random Monster vs. The Battlesong Duet (Party) : Macbrea [City] Malik of Black Robe (Malither76) vs. Random Monster : templer10 [City]Again, my apologies. I'm finding that keeping track of level-ups is the hardest part of this job. @templer: Elrick isn't quite that much like Aerryl. He's more of a pure caster. Against Aerryl at that level, I wouldn't have a chance in hell; against Elrick, I think I do (have a chance in hell). The fact that I didn't stock up on Energy Adaptation combined with Elrick's nice versatility in the energy type department makes for general badness. |

(it is kind of obvios). oh and - bad bad MWB for not stocking on energy adaptation.... :D |
| templer1005-10-07, 05:02 AM | maraxus- tactics for lord lorian sent- shortests ever (reletivly speaking) i ever wrote for multi player. (fit in 1 pm ffs). |
| Eluria05-10-07, 06:07 AM | I'm finding that keeping track of level-ups is the hardest part of this job. Do you think it would be helpful to have characters include their ECL in the title line? It's an entirely no-brainer detail for the player community to manage, and if it would make your job easier, so much the better; plus I think people already do that for MQs, quests, and missions, if i'm not mistaken. Just an idea. |
| templer1005-10-07, 06:29 AM | Malik of Black Robe (Malither76) - i did monster roll - 3 half dragon giant wasps (templete change type to dragon), 1 green, 1 bronze, 1 copper. (could have been worse imo). |
| TheMagister05-10-07, 07:41 AM | There's another level-up I missed; here's the consequence: Random Monster vs. The Battlesong Duet (Party) : Macbrea [City] :w00t: No save or dies that we need an 18 to pass! TBD dodges a bullet! (although we did have a neat silence wand strategy planned) Monster info, Mac? (no rush...any time before Friday ;)) |
| Sjiggie05-10-07, 07:55 AM | @Rauul The Shadow's miniquest is up here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=844638) |

| McJarvis05-10-07, 08:32 AM | Yawn... monster has been rolled.. This might be very quick.. Cupid's Bardic Knowledge is always applicable. Currently her BK score is 5+2(int)+2(synergy)=9 |
| Macbrea05-10-07, 08:36 AM | Ah.. then 6 Sauhagin [CR 2]...:P |
| McJarvis05-10-07, 08:38 AM | Ah.. then 6 Sauhagin [CR 2]...:P I just didn't want the statement about bardic knowledge not being applicable. Bard pride, you understand. |
| Macbrea05-10-07, 08:40 AM | Well.. as I said.. it is probably going to be a silly easy fight for the two of you. But in theory.. they could win! |
| Macbrea05-10-07, 08:42 AM | Oh, and if you don't feel that Synesthete with your eyes closed defeats magical darkness' 20% concealment for dark conditions then just don't bother to use the tattoo. Still use the darkness though. 20% defense is still 20% defense. |
| McJarvis05-10-07, 08:52 AM | Well.. as I said.. it is probably going to be a silly easy fight for the two of you. But in theory.. they could win! Who knows, the city could flood. *shudder* |
| TelinArtho05-10-07, 09:50 AM | Right, that one. I'll roll the monster and stat up the Monk tomorrow. Zevox I think that's fine as long as TM makes the half-giant monk reasonable (in other words - not specialized. The reason I say this is because of the walk in the park that one guild received for a non-well designed PMG attack (Church of Denth). Ideally though - the monk would be designed by you and equipped before the monster was rolled up. In any case, I am fine with TM making the half-giant if he has the time and it helps you out. |
| TheMagister05-10-07, 09:52 AM | I'd do a good job on it like I'd do a good job on any character I built. If you want vanilla there's always the DMG level 4 monk NPC that you could add the half-giant race to. Edit: and you could use the DMG's default equipment, too... TM |
| McJarvis05-10-07, 09:56 AM | The reason I say this is because of the walk in the park that one guild received for a non-well designed PMG attack (Church of Denth). You know, that was a one-time occurance. As I recall WAR almost lost when I designed Mr. Gummi vs Hood. |
| TelinArtho05-10-07, 10:08 AM | I'd do a good job on it like I'd do a good job on any character I built. If you want vanilla there's always the DMG level 4 monk NPC that you could add the half-giant race to. Edit: and you could use the DMG's default equipment, too... TM Just to be sure you don't make a mistake though - the encounter is ECL6 - so level 5 Half-giant monk. You know, that was a one-time occurance. As I recall WAR almost lost when I designed Mr. Gummi vs Hood. I didn't know that was a one-time occurance - I didn't realize there had been other PMG attacks. One of the issues I have with the guild system as it is is the lack of explanation on how to do certain things. This is one of those areas that could use some explanation. |
| McJarvis05-10-07, 10:30 AM | So far as I can tell the pitlord runs it like a normal monster fight. It is up to the pitlord to make the monster fight-worthy, though. [One of my complaints about this system is that it requires so much stinking time to write up a character to fight-> Mr. Gummi was fun, but I wouldn't want to design something like him every week] |
| Macbrea05-10-07, 10:39 AM | Oh, and if you don't feel that Synesthete with your eyes closed defeats magical darkness' 20% concealment for dark conditions then just don't bother to use the tattoo. Still use the darkness though. 20% defense is still 20% defense. By the way.. Darkness is Evocation [Darkness] spell. I am not sure it prevents hearing with Synesthete. It's not a displacement effect, Illusion or invisbility effect. It is simple shadowy illumination. That prevents darkvision from seeing in it. |
| TheMagister05-10-07, 10:44 AM | Just to be sure you don't make a mistake though - the encounter is ECL6 - so level 5 Half-giant monk. One of the issues I have with the guild system as it is is the lack of explanation on how to do certain things. This is one of those areas that could use some explanation. Very well. I'll design him and send him to Zevox. Target: Level 5 Half-Giant monk w/NPC (not PC!) - value equipment, equipped like a seasoned gladiator. I've got O.K.'s from everyone involved? |
| McJarvis05-10-07, 10:44 AM | By the way.. Darkness is Evocation [Darkness] spell. I am not sure it prevents hearing with Synesthete. It's not a displacement effect, Illusion or invisbility effect. It is simple shadowy illumination. That prevents darkvision from seeing in it. Hearing with synesthete doesn't let you "see" by sound(like Daredevil from the movies)-> it lets you "hear" lightwaves. The organ you're using to detect them won't change the fact that there is shadowy illumination. Even if you use it to "see sound", that just lets you hear things through an alternative medium. The boni that synesthete give are pretty finite. If you're blinded(eyes stop working) you can use it to see. If you close your eyes with it on you can avoid gaze attacks. And if you use it while using your eyes, you get a +4 to spot checks. That's it. |
| Quoriil05-10-07, 10:54 AM | Tactics PM'd for T'kiir vs. Seeker... I would have to fight the guy with the decent spot/listen checks :P Where is the sickly wizard suffering from Blindness/Deafness that I ordered. Phooey :) |
| TelinArtho05-10-07, 10:56 AM | Very well. I'll design him and send him to Zevox. Target: Level 5 Half-Giant monk w/NPC (not PC!) - value equipment, equipped like a seasoned gladiator. I've got O.K.'s from everyone involved? Go go go. |
| Zevox05-10-07, 12:56 PM | Very well. I'll design him and send him to Zevox. Target: Level 5 Half-Giant monk w/NPC (not PC!) - value equipment, equipped like a seasoned gladiator. I've got O.K.'s from everyone involved? Yep, that'd be great. Now then, I'll roll the monster for that fight and get to writing tactics for my own characters. Edit: And monster rolled and sent to Telin. Zevox |
| Erithmu05-10-07, 01:05 PM | @Zevox: Ceilia's Miniquest ... just in case |
| TheMagister05-10-07, 02:34 PM | @Zevox and Telin - Tyrna Malti, half-giant monk 5, has been crafted and given default tactics and sent to Zevox. @Z - I had to send her in three PM installments; the character sheet is just too big. Shouldn't be too hard to post her, though. A little copy/paste into a Text Editor'll take care of that. TM |
| TelinArtho05-10-07, 02:38 PM | My tactics have also been sent... I even gave him the name of Bob. So Bob - mean Tyrna. Tyrna - Bob. Tyrna? Where'd you go?... ... Bob... did you eat Tyrna? :) |
| TheMagister05-10-07, 02:43 PM | Aw, hells. What'd Tyrna draw? |
| TelinArtho05-10-07, 02:47 PM | Are you sure you don't want to just wait and see? I tell you what - I'll put it in a spoiler block: Size: Huge Legs: 4 Arms: N/A Heads: 5 Subtype: Cold |
| Zevox05-10-07, 02:48 PM | @ Rauul - Tactics for Kathren Durrol (vs Hunter) have been PMed. Wizard vs Barbarian - gee, I wonder how that fight will go? ;) @ NiQil - I noticed Hunter's age is given as 100. You do realize Elves don't even hit adulthood until 110, right? @ Rauul (Again) - Tactics for Arden Tarmik (vs Rubicanti) have been PMed. Revenge is a dish best served over your enemy's cold, dead corpse, and Arden intends to gorge himself this week  . @ Maraxus - Tactics for Mithos will be out later today. Thats a more complex one, and I have some things I'd like to do before writing them today. @ TM - 5-Headed Cryo Hydra. Zevox |
| Hirumajoe05-10-07, 02:52 PM | @ TM - 5-Headed Cryo Hydra. Zevox Poor monk... Is that even a physically winnable fight? (Barring 5 straight maximum damage confirmed crits...) |
| Quoriil05-10-07, 03:00 PM | Poor monk... Is that even a physically winnable fight? (Barring 5 straight maximum damage confirmed crits...) Mmmm... pyrokineticist must be looking pretty good right now :weep: . |
| TheMagister05-10-07, 04:14 PM | Are you sure you don't want to just wait and see? I tell you what - I'll put it in a spoiler block: Size: Huge Legs: 4 Arms: N/A Heads: 5 Subtype: Cold  :plotting: ... :tantrum: |
| TelinArtho05-10-07, 04:20 PM | Well, it looks like 'Rith just hit the worst streak in his most recent round in the mission. Charges in to attack and misses due to 20% concealment. Lydia gets attacked by an invisible opponent - who becomes visible. She gets her ready action - makes the manifest defensively check, makes the enervation check, fails SR by 1... Good luck Rith - things are getting difficult... |
| Rauul05-10-07, 06:00 PM | Ok Tactics are posted for my fights(so no new tactics will be allowed)... i will be running them tomorrow and saturday.. |
| Zevox05-10-07, 07:49 PM | Kervan vs Relanex is up. Has the result I expected, but it was much closer than I expected. Zevox |
| MindWandererB05-10-07, 08:11 PM | Kervan vs Relanex is up. Has the result I expected, but it was much closer than I expected. Zevox Yeah, didn't expect that fight to go on so long, and I don't often forget to mention spell renewal. I'll be more careful next time. However, there's a mistake that pushes things more in my favor, should it come up: Scorching Ray at Relanex's level fires two bolts of fire. Not one bolt that does double damage, two bolts. That means that energy resistance applies to each. No need to edit just for that, of course. |
| Zevox05-10-07, 08:13 PM | Yeah, didn't expect that fight to go on so long, and I don't often forget to mention spell renewal. Thats precisely how I ran it amigo. Observe: Relanex, with Kervan immune to his remaining preferred attack spells, falls back on some of his few remaining spells, starting with a scorching ray. The twin rays he fires slam into the balancing Elf, and though his resistance absorbs some of the damage it is clear this hurt him more than anything he'd yet done. (Attacks [11]+6=17 and [8]+6=14 vs touch AC 10, damage [6]+[3]+[6]+[5]=20-10=10, damage [4]+[5]+[6]+[4]=19-10=9.) Zevox |
| MindWandererB05-10-07, 08:21 PM | Thats precisely how I ran it amigo. Observe: Zevox Ah. Whoops, missed the second of those. My bad. |
| Salrantol05-10-07, 11:24 PM | @Malither76: Tactics for Enoch the Prophet sent via PM. Good luck with this one, the cleric v. cleric fight wouldn't be one I'd want to run. |
| Zevox05-10-07, 11:25 PM | @ Maraxus - Tactics for Mithos Durrol (=> Matthis Dar'ath => Lord Lorian) PMed. Much shorter than I expected. I think that'll be a short, bloody match. Zevox |
| NiQil05-10-07, 11:28 PM | @ Maraxus - Tactics for Mithos Durrol (=> Matthis Dar'ath => Lord Lorian) PMed. Much shorter than I expected. I think that'll be a short, bloody match. Zevox @ Zevox: I'm sorry...but it's too easy, and I can't let it slide... How much sleep do your elves get at night? :duel: |
| Zevox05-10-07, 11:33 PM | @ Zevox: I'm sorry...but it's too easy, and I can't let it slide... How much sleep do your elves get at night? :duel: Yeah, yeah. So your terrible will save made me forget Elves have reverie instead of sleep. You're the one with an Elf whos still a child competing in the arena :P . Zevox |
| NiQil05-10-07, 11:39 PM | Yeah, yeah. So your terrible will save made me forget Elves have reverie instead of sleep. You're the one with an Elf whos still a child competing in the arena :P . Zevox So when you win by running away and using your wand, you'll still have a character who picked on a little kid....big bad arena fighter can't pick on someone her own size LOL And if I win.....well let's just leave that in the category for a future wish spell. |
| Zevox05-10-07, 11:50 PM | So when you win by running away and using your wand, you'll still have a character who picked on a little kid....big bad arena fighter can't pick on someone her own size LOL Bah, its not like she can pick who her opponents are. Its no more her fault that her opponent is just a kid than it is that he wasn't born a Noble or that never learned to ride or do anything other than flail a weapon :P . Zevox |
| Aura_Blade05-11-07, 12:13 AM | Has the unknown monster for my character, Kazero, been rolled yet? I didn't see a post on the Battles of Gladius thread, except for the thread mentioning his pairing this week. |
| NiQil05-11-07, 12:19 AM | Bah, its not like she can pick who her opponents are. Its no more her fault that her opponent is just a kid than it is that he wasn't born a Noble or that never learned to ride or do anything other than flail a weapon :P . Zevox Yeah...see if you make it out of the battle with yer pretty pony, finger-wiggler. |
| Zevox05-11-07, 12:43 AM | Has the unknown monster for my character, Kazero, been rolled yet? I didn't see a post on the Battles of Gladius thread, except for the thread mentioning his pairing this week. *blinks* When did one of my ECL 3 fights become a monster one? I could've sworn both were 1-on-1s. Oh well, I'll roll it in a moment. Yeah...see if you make it out of the battle with yer pretty pony, finger-wiggler. Considering I have Mounted Combat and a ride bonus only 1 below your ranged attack, I'm pretty confident I can manage that :P . Zevox |
| Zevox05-11-07, 12:50 AM | Has the unknown monster for my character, Kazero, been rolled yet? I didn't see a post on the Battles of Gladius thread, except for the thread mentioning his pairing this week. Okay then, thats up here. You're facing a Worg and a small biped you don't have the appropriate knowledge skill to ID. Zevox |
| templer1005-11-07, 12:51 AM | Yeah...see if you make it out of the battle with yer pretty pony, finger-wiggler. oh.... SOMEHOW.... i.... doubt he will :D (got to do SOMETHING with that extra missile from energy missile) |
| Zevox05-11-07, 12:54 AM | oh.... SOMEHOW.... i.... doubt he will :D (got to do SOMETHING with that extra missile from energy missile) He was talking about a different fight - Hunter (NiQil) vs Kathren Durrol (Zevox). Though its nice to know something of what you're doing in that match. Good thing Mithos is on his third fight, so losing Noble won't matter. Zevox |

| Zevox05-11-07, 01:01 AM | well you already sent the tactics- so i dont really mind - and well i got ton of SP's might as well use them. Meh, I must be too used to my high-level Psion, because I just can't bring myself to think of 19 pp as a lot. Since we've both sent tactics, I'm dying to know - you planning on using either energy retort or dispel psionics in that fight? Those are the two I was more worried about. Zevox |

Zevox since he sent- no i didnt do energy retort- it's more of to the future option since normally i wont have enough PPS to use it. now - if it was a 1 on 1 duel - ill do it for sure- it's a great power VS melee. wayrath- did u notice THIS time zevox's char had see invisibility ;) (and i have touchsight). |
| waywreth05-11-07, 09:11 AM | waywreth- did u notice THIS time zevox's char had see invisibility ;) (and i have touchsight). Hah! Yes, this time I actually noted that I saw the scroll and power in question. Of course I still think Matthis is screwed in this fight, but here's hoping one of you two kills each other quickly. |
| Sjiggie05-11-07, 09:28 AM | @Malither76 Tactics for Gradak (vs Vallgar) sent |
| TelinArtho05-11-07, 09:58 AM | In case I didn't mention it - I don't think I have - while I received all tactics early yesterday - I probably still won't get to the fights until Monday due to being nasty busy at work right now (and have been for a week or two). Fights will be done as usual - but just don't expect them until Monday or Tuesday. |
| Yitzi05-11-07, 10:36 AM | Erithmu, any idea when you'll get back to my mission? |
| Erithmu05-11-07, 11:25 AM | Erithmu, any idea when you'll get back to my mission? Patience ... I have a life outside of CoCo. That and I have another mission that is in 3rd week that is still on first fight. Wednesday is my busiest day of class, and I normally take Thursday for myself. |
| Horatius05-11-07, 12:14 PM | @Malither76: Tactics for LPG sent! |
| templer1005-11-07, 06:03 PM | malik of the black robes VS 3 half dragon giant wasps is done and here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=12368664&postcount=855) - i dont know how to do the alley penalty for your cohort so malithar please post it here and i will edit it in. |
| TelinArtho05-11-07, 07:45 PM | @Zevox - I do believe that the monk has to make 5 reflex saves against those breath weapons... |
| Zevox05-11-07, 07:56 PM | @Zevox - I do believe that the monk has to make 5 reflex saves against those breath weapons... *raised eyebrow* These purplish hydras can breathe jets of frost 10 feet high, 10 feet wide, and 20 feet long. All heads breathe once every 1d4 rounds. Each jet deals 3d6 points of cold damage per head. A successful Reflex save halves the damage. The save DC is 10 + 1/2 hydra’s original number of heads + hydra’s Con modifier. Seems a bit ambiguous, but I think you may be right. Though, does this mean that every head does 3d6 per head (15d6 per breath in this case)?! Please tell me I'm misreading that! Zevox |
| TelinArtho05-11-07, 08:01 PM | Yes - 3d6 per head - 15d6 total. Cryo/Pyro hydras are nasty if you don't have resist energy up... Resist Energy 20 would make it so saves are completely unnecessary - Resist 10 would take away most of its nastiness... |
| Zevox05-11-07, 08:05 PM | Yes - 3d6 per head - 15d6 total. Cryo/Pyro hydras are nasty if you don't have resist energy up... Resist Energy 20 would make it so saves are completely unnecessary - Resist 10 would take away most of its nastiness... 15d6 total from each breath (i.e. in this case 5 failed saves is 75d6), or 3d6 from each breath for a total of 15d6? Its the former I'm hoping I'm misreading it by seeing. Edit: Anyway, I've rolled and edited things running under the presumption that its 3d6 per breath. Read it for yourself here. Zevox |
| TelinArtho05-11-07, 08:07 PM | 5 3d6 breath weapons when it breathes. Also - I believe with the hydra's special combat reflexes - the monk has to tumble through all of them at increasing difficulty. Last thing - I swear I remember a discussion about the recharge rate of breath weapons. Unfortunately I'm not able to find it at the moment. In any case - I swear the decision resulting from it meant that a 1d4 recharge rate with a roll of a 1 meant that the breath weapon was available on the following round. |

Okay on the breaths then. What do you mean by the reflexes though? The entry about that doesn't indicate the heads are treated as separate creatures, just that all can be used in an AoO. Zevox |

| TelinArtho05-11-07, 08:15 PM | Why exactly did you ignore tactics as written for stomp? He especially included using it if they are "Big and Slow" - which is about the epitome of a hydra...?\ |
| Zevox05-11-07, 08:18 PM | Why exactly did you ignore tactics as written for stomp? He especially included using it if they are "Big and Slow" - which is about the epitome of a hydra...?\ Because she'd either have to accept AoOs to do it or try a DC 16 concentration check with a meager +5 modifier to do it. Seemed a terribly stupid thing to do. I suppose I could edit for it if you'd like. Zevox |
| TelinArtho05-11-07, 08:22 PM | Well - except SLA do not draw attacks of opportunity. Also - a bit of an error in there - but the monk doesn't actually have a potion of mage armor in her inventory... |
| Zevox05-11-07, 08:26 PM | Well - except SLA do not draw attacks of opportunity. Also - a bit of an error in there - but the monk doesn't actually have a potion of mage armor in her inventory... They don't? You sure? *checks* Nope, you're wrong, they do. Take a look at the table of action tyes - SLAs are AoO: Yes. And she doesn't?? *checks* Wow, so she doesn't! Don't know how TM managed to write tactics saying to use something she doesn't have. Guess its back to the editing board... Zevox |
| Zevox05-11-07, 08:41 PM | Okay, I've edited for the stomp power and the lack of mage armor. The attack rolls in the roller aren't going to mesh with those in the fight anymore, since what was previously a single attack became the first in a flurry to keep thematic rolls, but keeping those the crit still manages to down the Hydra in round 9. If someone could confirm that a roll of 1 on a breath weapon recharge means is useable next round, that might yet change this, but that'd be all that could. Zevox |

| Aura_Blade05-12-07, 12:04 AM | Okay then, thats up here. You're facing a Worg and a small biped you don't have the appropriate knowledge skill to ID. Zevox It was changed because Eluria noticed my character's opponent would have been an ECL4 opponent. Post (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=12348078&postcount=43) I didn't find this post until just now, and I realized now that my strategy was referring to the small biped as a goblin. (Because I didn't want to have to call it "small biped" or SB all the time. ;) ) |

It was with the dragons in the first round or two of the Iron Man. I had it ruled previously on my dragon that rolling a 1 meant going without for one full round (meaning a minimum of a standard and move action of time before using the breath again). MindWandererB and I discussed it and we came to the ruling that rolling a 1 means it's available on the next round. If there's opposition, it could be debated in the rule thread; it does add some power to breathweapons and all. |

| Zevox05-12-07, 12:27 PM | Okay, edited for the breath weapon. Final fight is up here. Breaths did just enough damage to put Tyrna at 0 hp and prevent her from getting her crit. Zevox |

Any one know if Fascinate really works outside the Arena (like on Miniquests)? Depends on your questlord. According to CoCo houserules, combat officially starts when initiative is rolled, so if you get the fascinate/charm person/suggestion going before that, then it should work pretty well. |

I watched the rolls as they came out...didn't see any glaring mistakes (at least nothing that jumped out at me). I was a little worried there for a bit...I hadn't considered getting pinned as an option. Good run. Also, if you can give us an arrow recovery count, that would be super. By my count, Tyden had 2 hits and 7 misses that need recovery rolls, and Dunerunner had 0 hits and 6 misses that need recovery rolls. |

I find it somewhat amusing that the pairingsmaker put Yitzi and I against each other twice this week and you as the pitlord both times. tommarow for that - hmm- a week in which i DONT get 1 of your char is an odd one - you have so many.... you are the opposite of me - lots of ecl 3-5 no high levels- and i cant wait to get out of lower ecls. on another note- i need to study some and hopefully flesh out my latests creation a rather nasty long range specialist psion (killing at 300 feet or more is the idea). |

MindWandererB and I discussed it and we came to the ruling that rolling a 1 means it's available on the next round. If there's opposition, it could be debated in the rule thread; it does add some power to breathweapons and all. That was a nice fight. The only thing I could say in regards to the 1d4 for breath weapons is that it's a "recharge" time. So a 1 is 1 round of recharge before you could use it again (by my unknowledgeable stab at RAW). I don't have the books available at the moment (I'm dialing in from the library), but I can look at the SRD to see if I have a leg to stand on. Edit: Nah. I agree with MWB and whoever. A roll of 1 on that 1d4 means that the creature could use the BW "1" round from the last time they breathed. Six seconds later. Damn. Oh well. I had a 75% chance to whup that hydra, and got the 25% roll (a 1 on a d4). Shucks. I made a monk that could out-damage a hydra! Whee! TM |

| Yitzi05-14-07, 06:49 PM | About the "breakdown" in Arbin's tactics-I was entirely aware this could happen, which is why I put the magic missile plan in the tactics. As for your note at the bottom: 1. Once I get enough levels in rogue (and then arcane trickster), my sneak attack cantrips will do significant damage 2. Once I get past level 3, I won't be relying as much on cover to hide-there are several level 2 spells that can be used to deprive the enemy of their DEX bonus and ability to harm me. |

| Yitzi05-14-07, 07:07 PM | Or an enemy who's been blinded by glitterdust, or an enemy who's been blinded by blindness/deafness. And with the right spell, one shot, granted by invisibility, is all you need. There's a reason Arbin isn't a straight rogue. |
| Rauul05-14-07, 09:46 PM | Let me get this right... On a Guild mission that fails the people get nothing for the first 1-2 parts that were susessful.. no failure exp or gold nada? |
| Zevox05-14-07, 09:47 PM | Let me get this right... On a Guild mission that fails the people get nothing for the first 1-2 parts that were susessful.. no failure exp or gold nada? Correct. So I have a question.... You say that I did not take into account the magic missile possibility (which I didn't...I missed it on his sheet). You state that moving to melee would be the best circumstance, but that would be against tactics. However, my tactics state that I would prefer melee, as shown here: If he closes to melee (what I would prefer), [snip] I also never covered the possibility of sniping in my tactics, which again I did not consider. Given that both the sniping and the MM wand were not covered in my tactics, I am wondering why you chose to use an option that sorta-kinda applied (that of him trying to sneak up on me), vs my stated preference in attack modes (melee), especially since you indicated, in your eyes, that melee was the better option. You said melee was against tactics, but it is specifically stated as my tactical preference. |

Also, mm wands do not allow for sniping, as sniping requires a ranged attack. MM is a spell effect. i just dont read it this - way from what i understand - the melee part of your tactics said first "If he closes to melee" - then stow the bow and attack in melee with the claws. as i read it it's a simple contingency. about teh snipe i dont think you missed any attacks since he never managed the hide after MM anyway - but ill go check. EDIT- the only time you didnt shoot and you should have is round 12- but that is negated by the fact that in round 8 i shot twice for you accidently. afterwards at round 13 it's mentioned arbin rehides - it was done in 13 and not 12 on the assumption he was already hidden in round 12 (from the hide after shot) - so that gets moved to 12 and you still cant spot him in rounds 13-14. if you are wondering about listen DC 0 - unless iam wrong the ventriliqusem takes care of that - since at best you will shoot at something 30 feet away. |

I think you are missing my point. I am not disputing that the line about melee stated that if he closed, then go to melee. What I am saying is that none of my tactics applied to the given situation (as you yourself stated). Given that, you have two choices...ranged or melee. My tactics do specify which I prefer (melee). |

| NiQil05-14-07, 10:27 PM | @ templer: Looking at Taren's attack rolls, I think there are some errors there. You have stated in the roller that Taren needs a 20 to hit...I'm wondering how you arrived at that total. 15 + 4 (mage armor) + 4 (shield) is a 23 AC for Arbin, meaning that with a +7 to hit, I need a 16 or higher on the roll. Where are you getting the extra 4 from? I ask, because if the 16 is correct, there are a couple of shots that Taren took that will hit. Edit: I think I forgot the cover.... |

What I am saying is that none of my tactics applied to the given situation (as you yourself stated). Given that, you have two choices...ranged or melee. My tactics do specify which I prefer (melee). personally- i think you are wrong - since you did say to stay at range if he stay at ranged. so since he stayed at range you had a ranged fight - so it's in the "general area" of what you intented . if i had gone and done melee - iam sure i would now be arguing with yitzi why i went against your stated tactics when they were at least SOMEWHAT applicable. he would have said something like - why despite the fact niqil asked for a ranged fight- you went and did a melee fight. when i pitlord in a situation when the tactics didnt take into account something (and they often dont) i prefer going with what is stated in them if they can be applied to the situation at hand - even somewhat. i dont think i will change my opinion but iam willing to listen to other people ideas on the subject. |
| Zevox05-14-07, 10:33 PM | @ Zevox: Any word on Seeker's fight? 'Twill be run tonight, and if not finished tonight will be finished tomorrow morning or afternoon. I kinda had three other fights to run, plus lots of discussions to participate in and all. Zevox |

Let me put it in these terms...There is no reason for what is said there in the () to be there other than to state my preference to melee. It is not relevant to anything else I said after that. Take it out of the sentence, and the sentence meaning does not change one bit. It is *only there to state my preference for melee. Eliminate it from the sentence, and you have the exact same sentence. Now whether you choose to make any changes or not is entirely up to you. But I felt the need to address this point, because there is a clear indication as to my preference, given a choice. |
| Yitzi05-14-07, 11:00 PM | NiQil, if you keep arguing about templer10's reading of your tactics for the Arbin vs Taren fight, I might decide to challenge his reading of Dunerunner's tactics in the Tyden vs Dunerunner fight (If asked, I probably would have preferred keeping him pinned to letting go to use the dorje). So since templer10's misunderstanding of what we meant in tactics probably gave you 1 win against me, and possibly gave me 1 win against you, let's just call it even and not force him to rerun the battles. The player misses something and the pitlord improvises the wrong way-it happens. |

| Sjiggie05-15-07, 07:33 AM | Gradak vs Vallgar is up here I stated in my tactics that I wanted to hide after every shot and only use rapid shots when Vallgar sends his skeleton after me. Instead you let Gradak rapid shoot while he can snipe if he has cover and makes his hide check. Also in round 4 he didn't ended behind cover what would be possible if you let him move furhter into the colum on round 3 instead of waiting for a round. Can you please look into that. Thanks Sjiggie |

| McJarvis05-15-07, 08:22 AM | RE: TBD fight I'm not even sure this is going to affect the fight-> but the equipment on the monsters is wrong. There's no way a CR1 monster can afford mithril chain shirt, masterwork equipment, & a tattoo. They only have about 900 gp each! In other news: TBD has great renown! Does anyone want to guess on how this affects the leadership ratings of the individual team members? |

| Macbrea05-15-07, 09:45 AM | Well, then there is a ton of characters that are done incorrectly over time. We have wabbled back and forth on doing it one way or the other. And the fight Yorick[ECL 5] fought this week is incorrectly placed on the chart. As 2 Worgs [CR 2] + 3 Goblin Warriors 2 [CR 1] = ECL 6 not 5. |
| McJarvis05-15-07, 09:47 AM | Well, then there is a ton of characters that are done incorrectly over time. We have wabbled back and forth on doing it one way or the other. And the fight Yorick[ECL 5] fought this week is incorrectly placed on the chart. As 2 Worgs [CR 2] + 3 Goblin Warriors 2 [CR 1] = ECL 6 not 5. Seems to me that ease of calculation should trump anything else in this situation. Pitlords already have to come up with equipment for each of the critters in question, why should we make them do unnecessarily complex calculations on xp rewards? |
| Macbrea05-15-07, 09:50 AM | I have no problem with doing it easy one way vs the other. The monster you got is on the wrong chart. I don't think I should be penalized for a EL 6 encounter on the EL 5 chart. |
| McJarvis05-15-07, 09:57 AM | What is the calc for CR in that case, anyway? 2 Worgs[CR2 ea] = CR 4. Add on 2d2-1 [1/3 CR ea] creatures and what do you get? I really don't think that was an EL 6 encounter. edit-> Actually, I read the opponent wrong. I paired you against 2 Worg & 2d2-1 Goblin Warrior 1, not 2. The 2 after Goblin Warrior may just be a typo ? |
| Macbrea05-15-07, 10:06 AM | Worg (x2) [CR 2] = 4 3 Warrior 2 goblins are [CR 1/2] [not 1/3] = CR 1.5 = CR 2 CR 4 + CR 2 = CR 6 Technically, it could be argued that it was only a CR 5.5 but that isn't quite how the book is written on it. |
| Macbrea05-15-07, 10:11 AM | It's the reason MindwanderB has been arguing that the random factor needs to be taken out of the charts. It results in fights that are too high an EL vs the table. Yes, I agree that the encounter wasn't really taxing to the character. The same could be said of the Duet fight. I refuse to reroll monster fights because if a monster is on the chart it was deemed able to handle any character of it's level. |
| Yitzi05-15-07, 10:12 AM | CR 4+CR 2 I think makes a CR 5, not 6. because CR 4=2XCR 2, and 3XCR 2=CR (3+2)=5 |
| McJarvis05-15-07, 10:14 AM | Or to be more precise: CR2+CR2=CR4 CR4+CR4=CR6 So CR4+CR2 != CR6 Regardless-> The goblins I threw at Yorick were only level 1 warriors, not level 2's. I don't think this would meaningfully change the battle, but it definately wasn't CR6 in this case. [2 Worgs + 3 Goblin Warrior 1 = CR5-ish for sure] |
| TelinArtho05-15-07, 10:18 AM | Quick question: Is a fight rewards for multi-monster fight for 6 cr 2 vs 2 ECL 5 done as: CR 2 +0500 xp +0530 gp CR 2 +0500 xp +0530 gp CR 2 +0500 xp +0530 gp CR 2 +0500 xp +0530 gp CR 2 +0500 xp +0530 gp CR 2 +0500 xp +0530 gp --------------- --------------- Total: +3000 xp +3180 gp halved for two of them --------------- --------------- Total: +1500 xp +1590 gp Or Just counts as 1 ECL 7 fight? +1500 xp +1600 gp Option 1 or Option 2 now? Actually - McJ is incorrect - rewards are given based off of the individual creature. Now - the way we have the charts that should usually end up with the exact same reward as the full EL of the encounter - but in the rare cases that it might not - that's the method to be used. |
| Macbrea05-15-07, 10:19 AM | Hmm, after looking at Table on Pg 49 DMG. CR 4 + CR 2 = CR 5 Hmm, odd the encounter calculator is wrong. |
| McJarvis05-15-07, 10:20 AM | Actually - McJ is incorrect - rewards are given based off of the individual creature. Now - the way we have the charts that should usually end up with the exact same reward as the full EL of the encounter - but in the rare cases that it might not - that's the method to be used. To my knowledge you're the only one to ever disagree with me & our calculations almost always come out the same[at least, you're the only person I've bothered to note in the past ;) ]. Why are you trying to create more work for pitlords when a simple "EL of fight" calc will do fine the vast majority of the time? |
| Macbrea05-15-07, 10:23 AM | That will by the way end up with some confusion. Is 3 Goblin warrior 2 [CR 1/2] = 300xp or 500xp? |
| TelinArtho05-15-07, 10:25 AM | Because I'm not going to guarantee that our tables are correct 100% of the time. If you are in a fight at ECL6 and get paired and for some reason it was missed that the encounter is actually 6.5 - wouldn't you want the rewards to reflect that? Don't get me wrong - I'm all about making life for pitlords easier. That said - how many entries do we have in the ECL3-10 tables? Around 700. I think I feel a little more confident in suggesting the exp be calculated manually. |
| Macbrea05-15-07, 10:25 AM | Actually, in every multi-monster fight I have ever calculated you do each monster individually. I know I was not the only person to do it that way. As I can go through quite a few different characters and probably find that occuring. |
| McJarvis05-15-07, 10:27 AM | Because I'm not going to guarantee that our tables are correct 100% of the time. Don't get me wrong - I'm all about making life for pitlords easier. That said - how many entries do we have in the ECL3-10 tables? Around 700. I think I feel a little more confident in suggesting the exp be calculated manually. The equipment a pitlord chooses[See Cleric of Denth Fight] influences difficulty FAR more than the random +- # of monsters present. If we don't give extra or less XP/GP because of equipment chosen, why would we use a complex process to try and deliver this effect otherwise? Regardless-> None of this is in the official rules, so I feel rather free to use either method for this fight. In general, however, I think we should try to simplify the calculations of rewards as much as possible. |
| Macbrea05-15-07, 10:30 AM | I guess. I am going to have to ask that it be put up for a vote in the council then back prison everyone that has it one way or the other. |
| TelinArtho05-15-07, 10:31 AM | I didn't realize that looking up a few entries on an xp table was a "complex process." Yes - equipment might play a role - but there is no way to adjust the EL tables to account for it unless the monsters came "pre-equipped" and even then in many cases (those with class levels) the CR wouldn't change (because the CR is based on the class levels with equipment). As I said - in most cases - the calculations should work out exactly the same. However, if there is a discrepency - the pitlord is supposed to use the individual CR of the monsters to calculate it - and that should be the final result. |
| McJarvis05-15-07, 10:35 AM | I didn't realize that looking up a few entries on an xp table was a "complex process." Proportionately speaking it's alot more than usual. (especially for battles with large #'s of monsters) Looking up the values for 2 or 3 different types of monsters, then adding them all up & then calculating for allies == much more complex than just looking up a single EL gp/xp reward. As I said - in most cases - the calculations should work out exactly the same. However, if there is a discrepency - the pitlord is supposed to use the individual CR of the monsters to calculate it - and that should be the final result. Says you(an Elder, I guess)-> but this isn't specified in the monster rules, which indicates to me that normal EL rewards should be used. RE: My own laziness? I DM alot & generally consider CR//EL of encounters to be worthless. (as well as rewards garnered from them) Since I consider all of these things DM calls at home, do you really have to wonder why I resent having to consult multiple tables for CoCo games? Oh well..maybe in the future I'll just "roll dice" at home & pick single non-treasure opponents so I never have to deal with this foolishness. |
| TelinArtho05-15-07, 10:58 AM | Actually - in the rules thread it does specify that it is off of the individual ECL/CR of the creature(s) you face: For XP you have to check the table 2-6 (DMG,p38), or use the one below. The rewards are based on the ECL of the gladiators. If you do not know how to use this table, ask in the Tavern. Nowhere do I see any mention of using EL for the encounter as the basis for rewards. In any case, all of this discussion is pretty much beside the point. Most of the time - the values will be the same. If and when a discrepency is found/pointed out though - the individual monster CR should be used to calculate rewards. I can't comment on someone else's laziness. I'm right up there myself - and ironically enough - I find the charts are quicker for me to use than trying to come up with a reward ad hoc in my own home games. Heck - to the displeasure of many at home - I even use the CoCo random monsters on occasion... |

Heck - to the displeasure of many at home - I even use the CoCo random monsters on occasion... I find it hard to believe the charts are quicker. All you need to do is adequately challenge the PC's 3 or 4 times(just making up the xp as you go along), then assign any remainder XP for that level in "mission rewards". GP can be done in a similar manner. If you ever accidently give them too much gp, suddenly they hit lots of animals(no treasure). If you give them too little gp, just have some rich nobles around the get killed off ;) RE: Rules or not? Since I am pretty adament about keeping pitlording as simple as possible(given the extreme complexities already presented in the job), I feel pretty safe just ignoring the rules on rewards in this case. At worst I'll get slapped with a credit fine & the fight will be re-assigned to someone else, at best it'll get talked about & reworked in the council.[or MWB will just change it, since he's stated before that simple=better] edit->Of course, if Mac is extremely adament about it I could give rewards of 2 Worgs+3 Warrior 1 Goblins like he actually fought, or have the fight extended to next week so I can correct the foes he faced...(and that concealment issue) |

| TelinArtho05-15-07, 12:54 PM | I will have the fights done. I was hoping to get a response back from MWB about an issue - but if I don't - I'll run it when I get the chance. I'm just particularly busy this week with meetings and *gasp* work... |

Since I am pretty adament about keeping pitlording as simple as possible(given the extreme complexities already presented in the job), I feel pretty safe just ignoring the rules on rewards in this case. I agree. The only case where problems arise is with multiple lower level monsters, in which case the chart isn't balanced. Four CR 1 creatures (EL 5) give a ECL 5 gladiator 1200 XP, while one CR 5 (also EL 5) monster gives the same gladiator 1500 XP. Supposedly the threat level of each encounter is the same, but you get penalized when the threat is divided into small low-level packages.... I just prefer to give the EL 5 reward regardless of the actual composition of the opponents. It is an encounter with the same (supposed) threat level, right? |
| McJarvis05-15-07, 01:28 PM | I just prefer to give the EL 5 reward regardless of the actual composition of the opponents. It is an encounter with the same (supposed) threat level, right? This is exactly my point. Why make the system more complex? edit-> Looks like it doesn't matter what I posted-> Mac edited his character sheet before I had final rewards up & has posted his own rewards. Which, I suppose, brings up the question of why pitlords need to post rewards at all -_-. |
| Zevox05-15-07, 01:37 PM | Hunter vs. Kathren is here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=12347801&postcount=848) Is definately a different fight Well, there would be a major issue - I asked to manuever behind cover to avoid attacks if Hunter found Kathren while she was buffing, but but she just sat there. Still, this would just delay Starlight taking that crit (damn the luck), so no big deal. At least she still won - color spray worked just as well as I'd hoped. Thanks for running the fight! Zevox |
| Macbrea05-15-07, 01:39 PM | Figgin give me a loss.. I edited the character because you posted the fight and I had no problems with it. I will go back an reedit the character sheet when you put the rewards you wish on the damn fight. |

| TelinArtho05-15-07, 01:50 PM | Oh - I was trying to infer to you that you could adjust your tactics if you needed to since the map didn't work the way you had included. If you are fine with the tactics as is though - I can proceed without a problem. |

| McJarvis05-15-07, 02:02 PM | Figgin give me a loss.. Shoot, I was just gonna revoke your free activity(if you even had one). That's the only reason I don't like it when gladiators edit their char sheets before I finalize the fight. It's not like I'm out to get you here :P |
| templer1005-15-07, 02:05 PM | There's really not a whole lot I can do about it. My chances suck anyway. you are lucky you packed protection from evil or it would have been - augmanted summon's all around and a nightmare for telin..... :P |

| TheMagister05-15-07, 02:48 PM | @Rauul Re: Arden vs. Rubicanti It's impossible for Rubi to deal only 3 damage with a successful unarmed strike Hammer hit (1d6+3+1d8 is the minimum). Thanks for running it so far! TM |
| TheMagister05-15-07, 03:01 PM | Duet's fight is done. Thanks for running the fight! I only have one issue, and it's this: vs. Ranged: Tessero dismounts and returns fire (deflect arrows!). Cupid sets up behind Equalizer (soft cover!) and uses shortbow (if they're less than 70' away) or MM wand (if not). She's on healing duty either way. and Cupid heals Tessero/Equalizer at 1/2 hp (Tessero calls for help in either event). Now, I know Cupid's no brain surgeon as far as ranks in Heal go, but when Equalizer went down unconscious, she should've healed him with her CLW wand to save his life. I realize that'll move her attacks down a round, but I can't see how it'll change the outcome of the fight. Do you think it'd be okay to edit in a single charge of healing from Cupid to Equalizer? 'Preciate it. I do like that horse. edit: I know you must already be sick of hearing this, but the rewards are incorrect. If I remember correctly, Equalizer's CR1 penalty applies to the team as a whole (our experience must always match). So use the calculation as if Equalizer belonged to a CR 7 character, and not to a single CR 5. I think it comes to this: 3000 * (1/5*25) = 2850 / 2 = 1425 XP each and 3180 * (1/5*25) = 3021 / 2 = 1510 GP each. TM |
| Macbrea05-15-07, 03:10 PM | Actually, it might edit who there target is on the next round depending on how much was healed. I will go back and edit. |

Dice rolls are here (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=1455).. Four notes: first, Arden's AC should be 28, not 24. He started with 22, added +2 insight (defensive precognition) and +4 shield (force screen). Second, Arden's attempt to trip should have succeeded. In the rolls i see you forgot that he has +4 from his improved trip feat when hes making the attempt, which would make the trip succeed. Third, when Rubicanti stored his Dorje (or whenever that happens after the edit for the trip above), Arden should have gotten an AoO, which he can use to try and trip him again (and get a follow-up if he succeeds). Fourth, Rubicanti was looking to flurry normal unarmed attacks (as TM indicated above), not touch attacks (in fact, I think we had a ruling that monks are not allowed to flurry touches - I recall TM being very upset about it). As such, both of his attacks missed (as neither were 20s). Zevox |

| Macbrea05-15-07, 03:53 PM | So.. A team of two wizards. Political career +30% each gets +60% of two levels higher then them? |
| MindWandererB05-15-07, 03:55 PM | No:The party earns experience as if they were a randomly assigned team, except that any bonuses or penalties to XP are averaged across the members. That goes for the horse, as well. It's treated as an ally of an ECL 5 character, then halved. |

As for the 7 rounds of buffing - well, its the sewers. Between the water and the winding passages, theres no way your opponent is finding you fast, so you may as well do all the buffing you want. Arden hasn't had a chance to use his skate or offensive precognition stones yet, and I figured they'd help here, so I went ahead and used them. As a suggestion, in the future, when both combatants are spending a while buffing, just summarize that in one chunk of text to quicken things up. Like this: Rounds 1-6 Arden buffs with vigor (no enervation), defensive precognition (no enervation), cold energy retort (ML check passed), skate, offensive precognition, and force screen. Rubicanti buffs with inertial armor, thicken skin, offensive precognition, defensive precognition, and offensive prescience, then moves out while readying to manifest force screen on sight. Zevox |

| Zevox05-16-07, 04:05 AM | Enoch the Prophet vs. Le Petit Guepe is up here I don't know the penalty for Enoch allies his CA is 2.5 as far as I can tell, can someone help thanks. CA 2.5/Max CA 3 = .8333*25 = 20.833% adjustment. Zevox |
| Malither7605-16-07, 04:07 AM | thats kind of what I thought, thanks Z |
| Salrantol05-16-07, 06:45 AM | Hi, I'm looking for a questlord to run a miniquest for Enoch to capture the corpse of an ogre mage to animate. Anyone interested, please PM me, thanks. |
| Rauul05-16-07, 07:06 AM | Hi, I'm looking for a questlord to run a miniquest for Enoch to capture the corpse of an ogre mage to animate. Anyone interested, please PM me, thanks. Miniquests are normally assigned like matchs... but I can take it if MWB wants to fore go rolling it... |
| Zevox05-16-07, 07:10 AM | Miniquests are normally assigned like matchs... but I can take it if MWB wants to fore go rolling it... Actually, in theory at least they're supposed to have questlords lined up in advance just like full quests. They just also have the option to get a random one since they take only one week to complete, just like a normal fight, and that happens to be the option most people opt to use. Zevox |
| templer1005-16-07, 07:14 AM | so anyone has some time before editing deadline to take that ECL 5 hunter fight? save me, wayrath and zevox from sitting those chars out for a week? (tactics are posted already) also - telin - is elrick flamebrother VS mara going to get done in time? |
| Rauul05-16-07, 07:23 AM | well i have 2 weeks+ before Corrupter goes on his miniquest for 2-4 centaur archers..(depending on how many an ecl 8 miniquest to find the Centaur graveyard will allow) Next week will be Guild Miniquest to join the evils and stuff the insane with embalming fluid :) and this week is week 2 of his crafting.. On Miniquests/Quests do we have the Ally limit that arena's fights have? |

Zevox OK well PM sent.. Oh and if anyone wants to run an ECL 8 MiniQuest in 2 weeks for a Necromancer... PM me :) |
| Zevox05-16-07, 07:25 AM | so anyone has some time before editing deadline to take that ECL 5 hunter fight? save me, wayrath and zevox from sitting those chars out for a week? (tactics are posted already) Lemme repeat that call. It should be an easy fight - a few buffing rounds each, then lots of carnage when the spells start flying in the enclosed spaces of the cavern. ...plus Mithos levels up no matter what happens, and I really want to get him off on an MQ for his new Hippogriff mounts... under normal circumstances when it came down to a potential hold-over I'd just surrender the match and be done with it, but in an FFA thats not an option... Zevox |
| Zevox05-16-07, 07:26 AM | On Miniquests/Quests do we have the Ally limit that arena's fights have? Of course. The ally rules apply across the board to anything you do. Zevox |

Zevox not to mention it's 2 credits not 1. |
| Rauul05-16-07, 08:35 AM | Well my Miniquest is over... I can see now why noone plays bards... they get attacked while walking down the street singing.. I swear 2 int animals are as smart than archmages on knowing a Enchantment (Compulsion) [Mind-Affecting] cantrip is hostile.. Only In Gladus... where you can forget playing a bard as a bard.. |
| TelinArtho05-16-07, 09:33 AM | so anyone has some time before editing deadline to take that ECL 5 hunter fight? save me, wayrath and zevox from sitting those chars out for a week? (tactics are posted already) also - telin - is elrick flamebrother VS mara going to get done in time? I said it would get done and it will be done. That said - I'm on my 20th straight day of work (8+ hours each day) and it doesn't look like it is going to be letting up any time soon... so I'm a little short on patience (since I'm only scheduled to work a straight 40...) |
| TheMagister05-16-07, 11:50 AM | Monsieur Hood (TheMagister) vs 3 Xills (Unknown Monsters) is up. @TM - be careful about bringing issues up... I don't have the time to fix them this week... My goodness! Those little suckers just wouldn't stop hitting! Geez Louise! Thanks for the run, Telin. TM |
| Maraxus05-16-07, 11:53 AM | Matthis -> Lorian -> Mithos is finally up. |
| TheMagister05-16-07, 11:54 AM | Rubicanti vs. Arden is done here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=12347888&postcount=849).. Please check and makesure i am not messing anything up (7 rds of buff, 3 rds of combat) Dice rolls are here (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=1455).. Dice roller maybe messy.. haveing to add +4 to trips and stupid mistakes on my part... Awards and comments posted.. finished as expected i believe.. I'm cool with it. He had almost no chance to compete on that one. Map did me in more than anything. Don't get me wrong: Arden's a tough nut to crack... TM |
| templer1005-16-07, 11:57 AM | Matthis -> Lorian -> Mithos is finally up. my political career is actualy 21%. and with that i have my first great renown char (if my math is right) - grtz me. |
| waywreth05-16-07, 01:55 PM | Matthis -> Lorian -> Mithos is finally up. I hate hunter fights. Thanks for the run Maraxus. |
| McJarvis05-16-07, 01:58 PM | and with that i have my first great renown char (if my math is right) - grtz me. Welcome to the mile-high club :) [Ratings-wise, of course] |
| TelinArtho05-16-07, 02:04 PM | Well - it seems like I won't be done with the Maya vs Elrick fight before the hard deadline. At this point - it is going to be held over. |
| templer1005-16-07, 02:05 PM | Well - it seems like I won't be done with the Maya vs Elrick fight before the hard deadline. At this point - it is going to be held over. hmm- isnt the deadline now 12 PM PST? (so a while from now) EDIT - the deadline written is a bit wierd in the rules - 12 PM PSM/3 PM EST? it's not the same time. |
| Zevox05-16-07, 02:08 PM | I hate hunter fights. Ditto. They're the one type of fight - aside from monster fights that are an auto-loss for the player - that I can say that about. Anyway, I see errors in there, but nothing fight changing. So, thanks for the run. Zevox |
| MindWandererB05-16-07, 02:10 PM | hmm- isnt the deadline now 12 PM PST? (so a while from now) The deadline didn't change, only the time zone it referred to. Telin has 50 minutes. |
| templer1005-16-07, 02:12 PM | The deadline didn't change, only the time zone it referred to. Telin has 50 minutes. btw- what did you do in this fight? finishe your whole vigor dorja? i lost count at damage dealt when i got over a 100 jish. i hope telin is tracking real HP versus temp HP since the temp HP never can get oer 10 beynd the current real HP. |
| Zevox05-16-07, 02:20 PM | and with that i have my first great renown char (if my math is right) - grtz me. Congrats :) (even if it was at the expense of one of my characters). Took you a lot less time than it did me. I think I was here for 3/4 of a year before Istima Telarc became my first great reknown. Zevox |

Something like that, yeah. I have this thing against giving up without a fight. |
| TelinArtho05-16-07, 02:37 PM | Maya Redwine (MindWandererB) vs Elrick Flamebrother (templer10) btw- what did you do in this fight? finishe your whole vigor dorja? i lost count at damage dealt when i got over a 100 jish. i hope telin is tracking real HP versus temp HP since the temp HP never can get oer 10 beynd the current real HP. Essentially - yes - he used his dorje a lot. If MWB had been just a little bit luckier with his attack rolls on the Energy push (like - made 1 success after the first 2...), you were toast... Also - bear in mind the CoCo houserules about large and larger flyers. Your tactics mentioned to try to stay in the areas where you can fly unhindered, however - from your starting area until the point where you get to the center - there really isn't much option to fly. Anyway - if there's any complaints - I'll have to hold over the fight obviously. |

Zevox Well Zevox, you're just going to have to swallow that some of us are better at using cheese tactics than you. ;) |
| Zevox05-16-07, 02:46 PM | Well Zevox, you're just going to have to swallow that some of us are better at using cheese tactics than you. ;) Yeah, the fact that I try to stay away from those and don't create characters that are exactly like another I've seen doing well probably hindered me in that department, eh? ;) Zevox |
| McJarvis05-16-07, 02:50 PM | Yeah, the fact that I try to stay away from those and don't create characters that are exactly like another I've seen doing well probably hindered me in that department, eh? ;) Zevox Ironically, every time I've tried to recreate a previously successful character I've crashed & burned....every time I've concocted something original I've done exceedingly well. Strange, no? |

Just one thing, which hurts rather than helps me anyway: that ruling about certain spells creating a "pool" which has to be shared was overturned here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rg/20070206a). So Cat's Grace can be shared fully, granting +4 Dex to both the druid and the animal. |
| TelinArtho05-16-07, 02:55 PM | Well - thanks for pointing it out. Thankfully it doesn't actually change the fight (since you never targetted the bat), but it is well noted for the future... I wonder how I managed to miss that change but managed to notice the change with regard to sharing spells from scrolls and such... |
| Usurpator05-16-07, 02:57 PM | Just one thing, which hurts rather than helps me anyway: that ruling about certain spells creating a "pool" which has to be shared was overturned here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rg/20070206a). So Cat's Grace can be shared fully, granting +4 Dex to both the druid and the animal. WOOOHOOO! Been crusading against that particular rule for sooo long. And they changed it to the only thing that makes sense to me, another free target, like a duplicate spell (like I argued). Weird Skip with his 'pool' of spell power..... |
| Usurpator05-16-07, 02:58 PM | I wonder how I managed to miss that change but managed to notice the change with regard to sharing spells from scrolls and such... What did they change here Telin? Are they slowly coming to their senses? |
| templer1005-16-07, 03:00 PM | and i think i got elrick ready just under the wire - phew. |
| McJarvis05-16-07, 03:01 PM | What did they change here Telin? Are they slowly coming to their senses? You can share spells cast from scrolls with your familiar/animal companion. |
| Zevox05-16-07, 03:02 PM | What did they change here Telin? Are they slowly coming to their senses? Sharing scroll spells with familiars/animal companions you mean? An FAQ update made that legal a while back. Zevox |

| McJarvis05-16-07, 03:07 PM | Huh - wierd. Wonder if that means Davian will fail, given you noted hes very much alike unto Archie Longbow? ;) Zevox Nice try-> but he's like a combination or the Artificer of Gladius and Archie Longbow. He'll be the first double failure of mine. (First he'll get failure-> then he'll team up with someone & the team themselves will get failure status) |
| MindWandererB05-16-07, 03:16 PM | and i think i got elrick ready just under the wire - phew. And you managed to get not one, but two characters to Great Renown this week. Congrats. |
| templer1005-16-07, 03:18 PM | And you managed to get not one, but two characters to Great Renown this week. Congrats. really? didnt do the math for elrick (no time) - thanks. :D |
| McJarvis05-16-07, 03:25 PM | At least I got my second GR character this week too, so I'm not behind the ballgame ;) |
| Usurpator05-16-07, 03:45 PM | Sharing scroll spells with familiars/animal companions you mean? An FAQ update made that legal a while back. Zevox Well, I rarely follow FAQ updates closely. And in my home campaigns it has always been possible. That's how I interpreted the rule originally. I'm happy that errata usually tend to implement interpretations or house rules I already have. Rules of the Game Articles are unfortunately a hit and miss affair if you ask me. |

More miss than hit if you ask me. I can think of all of one ruling Skip has made in those I agree with, and that was extending the doubled damage on dives to any slashing or piercing weapon, not just claw/talon attacks. Everything else... well, lets just say that the number of times he goes blatantly against the core rules should speak for itself. Zevox |

Zevox Heh... and that happens to be one of the rulings I strongly disagree with (the RAW says claw or talon only; anything else is cut from whole cloth). |
| Zevox05-16-07, 03:52 PM | Heh... and that happens to be one of the rulings I strongly disagree with (the RAW says claw or talon only; anything else is cut from whole cloth). *shrugs* That one I consider common sense. When you've got gravity working that much in your favor, there ought to be a benefit beyond just normal charge conditions. Personally, I'd extend it to blunt weapons as well. Zevox |
