| TelinArtho11-15-06, 03:21 PM | Fights of the Week: November 15th Sheets Deadline for editing characters sheets is 21:00 CET. 24:00 CET. That leaves you with 2 1/2 hours or so. Central European Time (http://wwp.centraleuropeantime.eu/) shows the time. Please don't edit the sheet after the deadline or you will lose the match. Rules of Gladius All that you need to know is written in the Rules of Gladius. It could be useful also to give a look to the Court Decisions part 1 and part 2. Please do not make fake accounts or insult the Elders. Pairings GM Caterane will pair the active Characters of Gladius after the deadline. Make sure that your character is not in Prison (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=571107&goto=lastpost). Pitlording You should use the CoCo Dice Roller (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com) for the fight. If you need, there is a nice Template ready to use that will help. You could find very useful the Battle Map Tag Generator (http://www.hwx.it/coco) for dynamic Maps, You must post a link to your fight in this thread when it is complete. Other useful links are Skills and Feats, Quick Access tables for XP and Gold. If a fight needs to be rerun, the Pitlord has to inform the Pitlords account. He cannot react to requests from Players because the other player and the pitlord might disagree. He has no time to read the fight and the discussion. Please keep that in mind. PMs from players with rerun requests won't have an impact. Recent News and Developments TelinArtho's Jar-red is the WINNER of the Un Con event for the CoCo. Bow down before his might! Comments & Concerns Post any comments or concerns for this weeks fights in this thread. Be kind and courteous to your fellow posters, don't attack pitlords. Please remember that they do hard work and consume a lot of time to let you play and above all, have FUN! If you have questions or comments on any of the changes, please make your posts be heard in the Council of Gladius! |
| NiQil11-15-06, 03:27 PM | Recent News and Developments TelinArtho's Jar-red is the WINNER of the Un Con event for the CoCo. Bow down before his might! Talk about shameless self-promotion....:P |
| Pitlords11-15-06, 03:30 PM | There're only 2 fights left to run which we can extend. The deadline is midnight CET (in 2 hours 30 minutes from now on). |
| TelinArtho11-15-06, 03:36 PM | Talk about shameless self-promotion....:P Hey - I don't do much around here that deserves high praise - but I personally felt I did a good job... So now on to smashing those horsemen of yours... (are you ready?) |
| NiQil11-15-06, 03:39 PM | Hey - I don't do much around here that deserves high praise - but I personally felt I did a good job... So now on to smashing those horsemen of yours... (are you ready?) Of course....I fully expect to lose...but I intend to go down in a blaze of glory. |
| waywreth11-15-06, 03:48 PM | Talk about shameless self-promotion....:P I had copy/pasted the weekly thread stuff and was ready to create a thread... then I saw this. I was even planning to add the congrats to Telin. Of course I wasn't going to use giant fonts, but I suppose we'll let that one go this time. |
| NiQil11-15-06, 03:50 PM | I think Telin has just decided to replace LLMC as the Elder Master of Size 7 LOL |
| waywreth11-15-06, 03:53 PM | I think Telin has just decided to replace LLMC as the Elder Master of Size 7 LOL Naw, that was only size 4. :P |
| TelinArtho11-15-06, 04:08 PM | Of course....I fully expect to lose...but I intend to go down in a blaze of glory. Just do me a favor and try to avoid charges... you won't particularly like getting smacked with a +20 to hit, 3d8+48+2d6 damage charge will you? |
| TelinArtho11-15-06, 04:47 PM | Just to give a quick head's up - it looks like the ready-crawlers aren't working for some reason. I'll PM Cat and Dracazar to see if it can be resolved (if it needs to be...) |
| TelinArtho11-15-06, 06:00 PM | And time is now up. Pencils down, yada yada yada. Good luck to everyone this week. As soon as a pitlord is determined for the challenge match, Sir Valkin's tactics will be sent... |
| Caterane11-15-06, 06:03 PM | I love it when that happens  Can we do our team work again? I start from the top (ECL 10) and you pick the lower leagues? |
| Guildlords11-15-06, 06:04 PM | I only have GAP actions from three of the guilds! Since this is the first week of the new system, I'll be a little bit lax, but CAP reactions absolutely have to be in ASAP or they won't make it into the pairings, and any Errand CAPs that come in after the pairings are announced won't count (you don't get to know who you're fighting before you declare an Errand CAP). |
| TelinArtho11-15-06, 06:08 PM | I'll go quickly through ECL3 and 4 - if someone wants to grab 5+ please feel free. |

Forgot all about the board reset: I'd guess that the other guildmasters did as well. Getting it in now-ish. -Vath |
| TelinArtho11-15-06, 06:44 PM | @Dsugui - tactics for Sir Valkin's challenge match have been sent. EDIT: Also - shouldn't the Noko vs Sunstroke match be finished by the one who started it? or did the pitlord relinquish it to others? |

| Guildmaster (TAO)11-15-06, 07:28 PM | @Pitlords: Abyssal Stalker volunteered to run the LOY [ecl3] MQ. He mentioned it in the tavern, but I see you didn't get a note. linky This frees me up to run something else; or you can let me be and reduce me by 1 credit. Either is fine. -Vath |
| TheMagister11-15-06, 07:33 PM | @Zevox and DSugui - Hood (TheMagister) & Valek (DSugui) & Celia[ECL5] (Zevox) intercept Leif[ECL10] (Sunwolf) : TelinArtho [Plains] [Guild] How about that, boys! We gots us a chance! :cheer: |

| DSugui11-15-06, 09:22 PM | Oh, man... c'mon... You've got to be kidding me... Fight the ghost two weeks in a row? Why can't I fight someone who is alive to start with? |
| Macbrea11-15-06, 09:42 PM | Sorry, Abyssal Stalker that fight is going to take awhile... |
| Vathelokai11-15-06, 09:56 PM | @Vath/Abyssal: Exchanged your fights/MQ In case you missed it onthe last page - abyssal and I switched pitlording duty: Currently the pairings are Rubicanti (TheMagister) vs. Montana (UserNamer) : Vathelokai [Forest] [Week 3] and Mithos (Zevox) & Maya (MindwandererB) & Mort Noir (McJarvis) miniquest for LOY : Abyssal Stalker [Miniquest] *EDIT* Hrmmm... now I'm having problems opening the battles of gladius thread. Strange. I can open the last page, but not the first. |
| Vathelokai11-15-06, 10:15 PM | So this seems to be the last word from Kaigan about the Rubicanti/Montana week 3 fight. There dosn't seem to be tactics posted anywhere. @TM, UserNamer: Please send tactics asap. |
| Gonbow11-15-06, 10:23 PM | @Milov & Zelck Tactics recieved, no problems noticed in a brief read-through, looks to be a fairly straight-forward fight, I'll be able to run it tonight (unlikely) or tomorrow and have it up and finished tomorrow. EDIT: @Abyssal Stalker Tactics for Vladimir vs Jade sent. Hopefully it'll be as straight-forward as I expect. @Macbrea Your character does not have correctly listed 3FC information. I should report that at the prison, since I need one more narc to get a credit, but I don't feel like it. Take a moment to copy the format from someone's sheet after our battle, hey? |
| NiQil11-15-06, 10:37 PM | @ Hirumajoe: Reply sent to your comments on my tactics for Amantar. @ DSugui: Tactics for the Horsemen sent via PM. |
| TheMagister11-15-06, 11:13 PM | So this seems to be the last word from Kaigan about the Rubicanti/Montana week 3 fight. There dosn't seem to be tactics posted anywhere. @TM, UserNamer: Please send tactics asap. Done. |
| Erithmu11-16-06, 01:12 AM | @Zelck: Tactics for Shadowsong sent, yea mystery fights in the largest slowest moving terrain. (And me without my horse) @Macbrea: Tactics for Torel sent, should be painless. @Cat: MQ is up here |
| Macbrea11-16-06, 08:48 AM | @Macbrea Your character does not have correctly listed 3FC information. I should report that at the prison, since I need one more narc to get a credit, but I don't feel like it. Take a moment to copy the format from someone's sheet after our battle, hey? The character uses no buffs and no spell or power points. I could add more then on second fight but it would be extra text with no meaning. Ok, as soon as the fight ends I will add the following to the top of the sheet. Time Between Fights: ? hrs Prebuffs/Ongoing Effects: N/A Items Used: 1 Arrow Spells or Powerpoints Used: N/A x/day Abilities Used: N/A Free Activity: None Time Between Fights: ? hrs Prebuffs/Ongoing Effects: N/A Items Used: 9 Arrows Spells or Powerpoints Used: N/A x/day Abilities Used: N/A Free Activity: None Time Between Fights: ? hrs Prebuffs/Ongoing Effects: N/A Items Used: None Spells or Powerpoints Used: N/A x/day Abilities Used: N/A Free Activity: None |
| Abyssal Stalker11-16-06, 11:44 AM | @McJarvis: How about the monster lore for Ikhain's fight? |
| McJarvis11-16-06, 11:59 AM | @McJarvis: How about the monster lore for Ikhain's fight? You see two small "monsters". Can't do the write-up now, though..and "monsters" is just a general term for non-humanoid race :-) |
| Abyssal Stalker11-16-06, 01:26 PM | Jade vs Vlad is done (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=10658488&postcount=248). Show me the mistakes so I can try to fix them! |
| Zevox11-16-06, 01:34 PM | @ McJarvis - Tactics for Annalina Vale (vs Valen Sky) have been PMed. Zevox |
| Macbrea11-16-06, 01:40 PM | Jade vs Vlad is done (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=10658488&postcount=248). Show me the mistakes so I can try to fix them! I am fine with the results. Crossing huge amount of space against another archer is pretty much futile. |
| Abyssal Stalker11-16-06, 01:45 PM | I am fine with the results. Crossing huge amount of space against another archer is pretty much futile. Yes, I realize this but that is the way I understood your tactics. I hope I got them correctly. On the other hand, your bow had a shorter range and your attack boni were lower that Jade's. With any luck with your rolls you would've had chances to beat her. As you probably noticed, the shots at you while you were moving didn't have too good chances to hit you. |
| Macbrea11-16-06, 01:52 PM | Tactics were followed perfectly. Basicly, move toward opponent and fight a running shootout. Make the rogue decide if they want to goto melee or not. The shortbow without rapid shot vs the long composite bow with rapid shot pretty much means they get twice the number of shots. I am fine with that. When he levels he will buy a real bow. But at the moment, it just isn't worth shooting at the -4 penalty. |
| Gonbow11-16-06, 02:08 PM | Aye, fight looks fine to me. The improvisation is logical on all accounts as far as I can see; Vlad was just an underdog going into the battle was all. Accounting note: Vlad was collecting taxes? For who, his sheet doesn't list any guild affiliation? I'm just a curious fellow. EDIT: Found it! So that Vladimir was a gnoll!?! Well, lets hope he stays out of Tatyana's way for a good long time ^_^ |
| Macbrea11-16-06, 02:47 PM | There fixed his character sheet. Didn't have his guild listed on it because he became a member on wedesday of last week. I got time to set his title but didn't get around to adding the fact he was a member of the Loyalists. Vladmir V'dagrr, Tsarevitch of [the Tsardom of] Wodvoyka is his full title. Assuming they are using a russian setting. Tsarevitch translates to Emperor's son. I took the liberty of making the Tsardom a gnollish empire because noone else had claimed it for much yet! I would assume like Russia the Tsardom of Wodvoyka family line is very huge. Russia at one point had so many grand dukes that they had to demote some of them to dukes in order to make the line of succession make sense at all. |
| TelinArtho11-16-06, 03:43 PM | I dare say that taking over a fight in the middle of things is probably the most daunting thing I've had to do... of course, it might be those 134 rounds of "setup" material I have to look through... Working on the gnat vs the flyswatter now... |
| waywreth11-16-06, 04:31 PM | @Papapeperoni - Tactics for Matthis II sent via PM for Dorn Farhand (Kaigan) vs. Matthis Dar'ath II (waywreth) |
| Zelck11-16-06, 04:56 PM | Setup of the Battle of the Phrenic Creatures (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=10653267&postcount=246) is up. Will run sometime this weekend prolly. |
| TelinArtho11-16-06, 05:44 PM | And here we go with the last THRILLING installment of the gnat vs the flyswatter. If anyone wants to count the droppings (misses/hits of arrows) - please feel free. Otherwise - I'll get to it later. |
| Maraxus11-16-06, 07:02 PM | And here we go with the last THRILLING installment of the gnat vs the flyswatter. If anyone wants to count the droppings (misses/hits of arrows) - please feel free. Otherwise - I'll get to it later. Looks like I was lucky here. My tactics really missed one important point, I should have asked, either to stick to very long distances, or sneak attack range. I mean, the roof next to the tower would have been out of melee range, too and had gotten sneak attack. Since I sooo like that, this would have been great. And then I have a question I don't really know, if it would work: Could I be in full cover somewhere on the roof, then fly to the egde (make a normal hide check vs. spot) and use flyby attack to move back to full cover? ... or more important: Could I use this every round and every round (I win the hide check) "suprise" my opponent? I mean from my personal feeling, I'd say it should not work but then again, RAW is often opposed to my feeling. :) Of cause I would allways trigger readied actions, but the option to hide without even using an action for it sounds to good. :) |
| TheMagister11-16-06, 08:10 PM | @Telin - tactics for Hood in the Three-for-all vs. Leif sent by PM. Tactics also were cc'd to Zevox and DSugui. Minor changes to my tactics will be uncomplainingly allowed if endorsed by my team-mates (just in case I wrote anything stupid). Go team WAR! |
| Abyssal Stalker11-17-06, 02:43 AM | Hooray that we don't have a rule that cancels auto-loss monster fights but only the auto-wins... Thanks McJarvis for running the fight. Not much chances there, but hoping for two crits. And the one who critted was the opponent. Well, maybe next time. |
| Vathelokai11-17-06, 08:25 AM | both tactics for rubicanti and montana week 3 recieved. Should run tomorrow (saturday). |
| Krytos11-17-06, 09:08 AM | @ My Gladiators(Etiquette_Gnome, renlim, & Selena Ombrenoire) I have recieved no tactics yet. Make sure you get them in before the deadline. |
| McJarvis11-17-06, 09:49 AM | Hooray that we don't have a rule that cancels auto-loss monster fights but only the auto-wins... We really ought to revise that rule. It just doesn't seem fair-> especially for poor little Mort. I think any monster that has a chance against her(scent, blindsense, etc) will more or less auto-win against her too. :( |
| Zelck11-17-06, 10:02 AM | IMO, there should be a 3 reroll rule. If you reroll three times and get an auto-loss monster every time, you don't reroll any more and just use the last monster rolled. That way, people aren't penalized if they successfully built their character to auto-win against a large proportion of the monsters on the list. |
| Sunwolf11-17-06, 10:03 AM | @Telin Does Leif have any knowledge check info on what the ECL 5 monster that is showing up on his opponents side in Leif's fight? Sunwolf |
| Zevox11-17-06, 10:07 AM | @Telin Does Leif have any knowledge check info on what the ECL 5 monster that is showing up on his opponents side in Leif's fight? Sunwolf Monster? Since when did our team get a monster  ? Far as I know we're just getting a surprise round (not even a handicap for Ceilia). Zevox |
| TelinArtho11-17-06, 10:43 AM | @Sunwolf - I don't see anything about a monster: Hood (TheMagister) & Valek (DSugui) & Celia[ECL5] (Zevox) intercept Leif[ECL10] (Sunwolf) : TelinArtho [Plains] [Guild] |
| McJarvis11-17-06, 10:48 AM | @Sunwolf - I don't see anything about a monster: You misunderstood Sunwolf. What Sunwolf meant to say is Hood is a frickin beast ;) |
| Zelck11-17-06, 10:50 AM | You misunderstood Sunwolf. What Sunwolf meant to say is Hood is a frickin beast ;) LOL! I really look forward to reading that fight. |
| Sunwolf11-17-06, 10:52 AM | Does anyone have a pointer to the handicap rules? I thought that Leif would have to deal with the ECL 6 guys getting a surprise round and the ECL5 gal getting a ECL5 'helper' ie monster. I certainly could be mistaken. Just want to know what to write tactics for :) Sunwolf. |
| TelinArtho11-17-06, 10:57 AM | Hmm - it seems there's a bit of a lack here. Leif is ECL10, while his opponents are ECL6, 6, and 5. The closest in the rules is this: 1xECL+0 vs. 3xECL-4 C C: Team B gains surprise round I'll shoot a quick PM to Cat. |
| Zevox11-17-06, 11:18 AM | Does anyone have a pointer to the handicap rules? I thought that Leif would have to deal with the ECL 6 guys getting a surprise round and the ECL5 gal getting a ECL5 'helper' ie monster. I certainly could be mistaken. Just want to know what to write tactics for :) Sunwolf. Normal handicap rules (what you're thinking of) would give Ceilia two prebuff rounds, the surprise round that the others get, and a free merc of up to her ECL (no monster - merc). As it stands, last I asked Guildlords about it I was told that we wouldn't be getting that because our group is closer to the 3x ECL-4 option (just gives surprise round) than the 3x ECL-5 option (gives handicap). So as-is, team WAR just gets the surprise round. Zevox |
| TelinArtho11-17-06, 11:21 AM | Actually - Cat just confirmed that Hood and Valek get surprise rounds, while Ceilia is aided by an ECL 5 ally. I have sent PMs to all involved. |
| TelinArtho11-17-06, 12:11 PM | Okay - I've got tactics from all of team war (waiting on Zevox to give it the final ok). Other than that - just waiting on Sunwolf for Leif's tactics. |
| MindWandererB11-17-06, 01:19 PM | Actually - Cat just confirmed that Hood and Valek get surprise rounds, while Ceilia is aided by an ECL 5 ally. I have sent PMs to all involved.Odd, because I discussed this with Cat as well, and he told me that a monster ally was impossible, because it would raise the number of combatants up to 5, which is the one thing that is never, ever allowed. Except he's the boss, so whatever. Could I be in full cover somewhere on the roof, then fly to the egde (make a normal hide check vs. spot) and use flyby attack to move back to full cover? ... or more important: Could I use this every round and every round (I win the hide check) "suprise" my opponent? I mean from my personal feeling, I'd say it should not work but then again, RAW is often opposed to my feeling. Of cause I would allways trigger readied actions, but the option to hide without even using an action for it sounds to good. No, that's correct. No action, and no hide check even. But readied actions would nail you in a big way, and of couse in this fight, all your shots would have been deflected since you wouldn't be hidden while shooting. @MWB - I honestly don't know why you didn't just surrender this one. Yes - winning was a possibility - but in the end - the fight was very expensive and you had to rely on auto-hits in order to win here. Get some better attack bonuses my friend! The reason I didn't surrender is because I underestimated the size of the Spot penalty Sunstroke would get wait a minute. I'm afraid you have to make some corrections there, Telin. On looking at it again (I've been really busy lately), nearly every arrow that Noko fired once you took up the fight should have been deflected. Only in rounds 135, 148, and 172 was Noko not spotted. Every other "hit" is erroneous. And that's why I thought I had a chance at this one, and I still do. Although I am seriously considering giving up on Sunstroke. I tried to make him good at too many things, and the result is that he has some fair magical options and he's good at grappling, but that's about it. I may replace him with that orc paragon-dragon disciple I was suggesting a few days ago. |

Is the target aware of the attacker a) as he makes the shot (in which case he should have time to deflect it) or b) because of the shot (in which case, he can't react in time to deflect it). If it is a - then I would agree. However, if you look at the first 134 rounds, it would seem that b is the way Hogarth ran it. I happen to also think it is b, but if you can provide some evidence to indicate it should be a, then the fight should be rerun from the beginning. I am willing to entertain arguments for and against this - but the way I currently interpret and understand the sniping rules is that you are seen after the attack - not before (which is why you lose your dex bonus regardless of whether you spot the sniper). [EDIT: It looks like I've got my brand new tag next to my name...] |
| Zevox11-17-06, 02:24 PM | Walden vs Dronnar is up. Zevox |
| MindWandererB11-17-06, 02:45 PM | Well, there's a bit of a question on the rules here. I think we need an official clarification on this one; had I known that was the way it was going to be ruled, I certainly would have surrendered. |
| Sunwolf11-17-06, 02:51 PM | @Telin Leif's tactics vs the War crew sent by PM Should be an interesting battle. Sunwolf |
| TelinArtho11-17-06, 02:58 PM | Interesting to be sure - I'll start running it shortly - so if anyone has any last minute edits - get them in now. @MWB - I'm sorry that you weren't aware of that. Deflect Arrows is nice - but against a decent hide - it may not be very useful. If you do find something to make the case though, please do present it. |
| Zelck11-17-06, 03:43 PM | @ Zelck - So, I have to ask - is playing Walden fun? I can understand playing snipers being fun, but with someone like Walden its so insanely clear-cut whether hes going to win or lose it seems like it'd be a bit dull to me. Just my perspective. There're two reasons I'm playing Walden. First, I want to make the best possible build, and I think Walden is pretty close ;). He still has some weaknesses, but hopefully I'll be able to smooth them over in later levels. Second, I started building a backstory around him, and then unwittingly got hooked. So that's why I'm playing him :). Andurwin is my "must come up with awesome tactics" char. |
| TelinArtho11-17-06, 03:55 PM | I am just going to say "Wow" - the WAR team versus Leif fight is complete, but not yet posted... |
| McJarvis11-17-06, 04:24 PM | I am just going to say "Wow" - the WAR team versus Leif fight is complete, but not yet posted... :-O |
| TelinArtho11-17-06, 04:25 PM | And here you go... Leif Goldeneye (Sunwolf) intercepted by Valek Usher (DSugui)6, Monsieur Hood (TheMagister)6, Ceilia Durrol (Zevox)5 and 2 Giant Eagles Not much to say about it... dice can be cruel... |
| MindWandererB11-17-06, 04:41 PM | And here you go... Leif Goldeneye (Sunwolf) intercepted by Valek Usher (DSugui)6, Monsieur Hood (TheMagister)6, Ceilia Durrol (Zevox)5 and 2 Giant Eagles Not much to say about it... dice can be cruel... I'm really not sure about those rewards. Then again, I don't think we even have a rule for this. My logic would be this: 1) The monsters should only count as one ally, since they're one roll. That would mean a 4-person team, not 5. 2) I'm really not sure whether they should apply to everyone, or just Celia. The idea is that they'd augment her to an effective ECL of 7, while the ECL 6 characters need a surprise round to be considered ECL 7. 3) I would think that technically, the surprise rounds or handicap are supposed to make the character effectively 1 or 2 ECLs higher than normal. I should think their rewards should reflect that, although there's no rule for this. |
| TelinArtho11-17-06, 05:00 PM | Valid points all around. We should bring this up in the council to be discussed. In my opinion the rewards should be weighted by ECL, like quest rewards are/were (don't know if they still are or not) - so in this fight: Valek and M. Hood would receive 6/23 of the total exp; Ceilia would receive 5/23 and each of the eagles would receive 3/23. If we adjust the rewards according to the two ECL6 being ECL7 for their surprise round and the ECL 5 and the two ECL3 as being a single ECL7 share - then the exp would be divvied 3 ways at that level, and then split in half for Ceilia and the two eagles (who would receive half of that...). Still - I'll defer to a greater decision on this one. At least internally the ratio of gp:xp is kept consistent. Making them higher ECL for Leif's rewards is a moot point - since he's frozen anyway. |
| Zevox11-17-06, 06:31 PM | Quick note Telin - the hedges in this map do not block line of sight (just provide cover to medium or smaller characters, per the map description - they're described as "low obstacles"). And yeah, that was exactly what team WAR needed. We had a 45% chance of winning on that, and it worked. That ought to throw some of the CEF's plans off a bit. As for the rewards, we definitely need a way to determine how much monsters take. Personally, for Guild fights like this where they're supposed to be a bonus to the player to even an uneven fight, I'd be of the opinion that they shouldn't impact rewards (just like the free merc a handicapped player gets). In normal fights my vote would go to them being based on CR/ECL or EL. But we need a ruling here so we know how much team WAR gets - off to the Elders thread! You know, I just realized that this fight is going to send Ceilia's power rating into the stratosphere - maybe she'll get to stay Great Reknown longer than I thought. :D Zevox |
| MindWandererB11-17-06, 06:44 PM | Quick note Telin - the hedges in this map do not block line of sight (just provide cover to medium or smaller characters, per the map description - they're described as "low obstacles").They don't block LOS, but they do provide cover, which allows a Hide check--which is typically unbeatable at that range. |
| McJarvis11-17-06, 06:46 PM | They don't block LOS, but they do provide cover, which allows a Hide check--which is typically unbeatable at that range. You can start off the match hiding? If not you can't hide since LOS is never broken. |
| Zevox11-17-06, 06:48 PM | They don't block LOS, but they do provide cover, which allows a Hide check--which is typically unbeatable at that range. As McJarvis said, that won't work without Hide in Plain Sight. Starting off with line of sight negates the ability hide unless you break it, which he can't do on that map without using one of his spells. Zevox |
| MindWandererB11-17-06, 06:50 PM | You can start off the match hiding? If not you can't hide since LOS is never broken. Hmm... no, you can't hide while flat-footed. So I guess that's correct. |
| McJarvis11-17-06, 07:21 PM | If we ever get lighting modifiers the cover might mean something-> though the Plains will be a Pitlords nightmare in the black of night & with two combatents with darkvision. |
| MindWandererB11-17-06, 07:28 PM | Worse, two combatants without darkvision, or lowlight vision. And who didn't bring a light source. Then add a thunderstorm. |
| Iced11-18-06, 12:02 AM | @Maraxus - Tactics sent for Toron |
| Gonbow11-18-06, 04:00 AM | So... How long do Crossbow vs Wand of Cure Light Wounds battles usually go anyways? I find it direly amusing that a psion with a +7 attack modifer has out-ranged combat'd a bow specialist ranger that had three times the number of attacks... but not three times the number of ammunition. Mr. Archer ran out of arrows in the 36th round without connecting once... Lets see how he does in melee! Wee. Silly dice. EDIT: I actually have a question to go with the dazed rambling; Can you use a Wand in the same hand/arm as a Light Shield? It specifically says you cannot use a weapon in that hand and wands are treated as weapons in many ways, like drawing with quick-draw/moving, etc. It would seem logical that it would be a weapon as well here. Im sure there is precident one way or another... |

Since you can hold something in the same hand as a light shield, you should be able to use the wand. |

Since you can hold something in the same hand as a light shield, you should be able to use the wand. I concur with this. Wands only ever need to be pointed in the general direction of effect or touch the intended target...I see no reason this could not be done in the hand of the arm using a light shield. |
| Krytos11-18-06, 10:33 AM | Dragonlily (Selena Ombrenoire) vs. Unknown Monster [Sewer] is done. Sorry about the bad monster roll. |

| Maraxus11-19-06, 01:48 PM | Hee Ya! Two monks in a honorable mixed martial arts duel. Who will win, the angry treelord style, or the irresistible grasp of earth? see yourself |
| MindWandererB11-19-06, 02:58 PM | Hee Ya! Two monks in a honorable mixed martial arts duel. Who will win, the angry treelord style, or the irresistible grasp of earth? see yourselfJust one point: we have a very old elder ruling that says you can deflect arrows while holding onto a 2-handed weapon. |
| NiQil11-19-06, 03:36 PM | Just one point: we have a very old elder ruling that says you can deflect arrows while holding onto a 2-handed weapon. Which would be this... Q: Can the Deflect Arrows feat be used when holding a two-handed weapon? A: Since it is a free action to remove a hand from a weapon, yes you can, provided that all other condition to use the feat are met (such as being aware of the attack and not flat-footed). ..ruling listed in the Prison. |
| Maraxus11-19-06, 03:36 PM | Just one point: we have a very old elder ruling that says you can deflect arrows while holding onto a 2-handed weapon. In't that exactly what I mentioned in Etiquette_Gnome's tactic? Or do you mean "holding on to" = "carrying"? As far as I see it it should be "holding on to" = "wielding" in the context above. Anything else makes no sense and if there should be such a ruling, will definitly find an elder to rule that back, I hope. :) |
| MindWandererB11-19-06, 03:45 PM | I'm not quite sure I understand your response, but the Court Decision is referring to wielding the weapon. You can Deflect Arrows no matter what you're doing at the time, as long as you're not attacking with the weapon at that very instant (such as with readied actions). |
| Maraxus11-19-06, 04:33 PM | Whoops, right, I missread your post (put in a not where there is none). So you can grap a weapon with both hands and still have a hand free to delect an arrow? Whow, this is an very interesting idea. This is some kind of quantum-hand: When you want to have it at the weapon to make AoOs with it, it is at the weapon, if you want it free todelect arrows with it, it is free to do so, at the same time, unless actually one of this situations is measured, or what? Hey, with the disarm action, I can grap the disarmed weapon, if I have a hand free. Does this also mean, that I can use a 2-Handed weapon to disarm him and use the free hand to grap the weapon? |
| Gonbow11-19-06, 07:09 PM | @Maraxus: You said it yourself, when the hand is stated as actually /doing/ something, it isn't free. If your disarming your opponent with a two-handed weapon, your hand isn't free, it's wielding the two-handed weapon. Understand the Quantum-hand and become one with it's monk-enhancing power. @All Ihdald vs Andurwin setup is here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=10686187&postcount=258) and the fight itself here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=10686201&postcount=259), featuring brushes with lava, insanely bizarre dice rolls and complete tactical failure in the late stages of the battle by both parties. | Hirumajoe11-20-06, 01:10 PM | Michael Edwards (Cale) vs. Amantar (NiQil) : Hirumajoe [Arena] is up here. Unfortunately, I have not received any tactics from Cale as of this morning and there were no default tactics. |

| SauroGrenom11-20-06, 05:44 PM | I concur with this. Wands only ever need to be pointed in the general direction of effect or touch the intended target...I see no reason this could not be done in the hand of the arm using a light shield. How is that different from using a spell with a ranged touch attack or a touch attack spell? You wouldn't allow these to be delivered by a hand that also wields a shield. Or would you? |
| MindWandererB11-20-06, 08:44 PM | How is that different from using a spell with a ranged touch attack or a touch attack spell? You wouldn't allow these to be delivered by a hand that also wields a shield. Or would you? I would allow the ranged touch attack, certainly, since you can cast spells while wearing a light shield. The melee touch... not with the hand, per se, but it doesn't necessarily have to be with the hand; you could touch them with the shield itself, for instance. Or with a foot, or whatever. |
| DSugui11-20-06, 09:09 PM | Makes me picture a wizard with no arms casting a touch spell, jumping and making the somatic components with his feets, then kicking the opponent to deliver the spell. Funny... |

No time to do rewards now...if you two wanna go through and compile your 3FC info for me that'd be dandy ;) I don't have time to go over it in detail atm, but I did notice in a quick pass that you got some of Annalina's durations on spells/powers wrong. Her dorjes are ML 2, her scroll of expeditious retreat is CL 2, etc... most likely only saves her a charge or two of her force screen dorje, but its there. Zevox |
| TheMagister11-21-06, 07:47 AM | Rubicanti vs Montana is half way done. I'll get it finished tuesday. Sorry for the lateness. Thanks for running that much of it; I know that's not a fun battle. :yuck: Still, I want to make certain that you realize that Magnifico (being large) is ALWAYS in the undergrowth, and so is ALWAYS suffering from impeded movement. As long as Rubicanti stays on the path, I don't see how horsey catches him. I see that you are applying the reduced flying movement for Fernando. Thanks! Montana, however, has the woodland stride thing, and so can cut corners and whatnot. TM |

I think I forgot to include in my tactics the fact that Valen should have been dodging my opponent for +1 AC. Oh well. Thanks for the run and congrats to Zevox. Kinda hard to do the 3FC info with a 10 round chunk missing. :-) I suppose I can go look at the rolls for that section. |

Valen's opposed disarm attempts seems to be off. I can understand 1d20+9 but I don't see 1d20+8. +3 Bab + 5 Dex + 1 Masterwork = +9, which would have prevented the bow disarm in round 11. Or I think thats what those rolls are... Hard to tell. After the horses left on their wild chase, having Valen dodge the only opponent left would have been nice, since that would have stopped 2 hits of 8 damage each. You also seemed to miss Zevox's tactics line which said take total defense action when hit with entangling ectoplasm. If you want to make corrections, feel free. If you don't have enough time before tomorrow, don't worry about it. Thanks again for the run. |
| Hirumajoe11-21-06, 10:55 AM | There are still a lot of fights undone: LEVEL 3 FIGHTS Dorn Farhand (Kaigan) vs. Matthis Dar'ath II (waywreth) : Papapeperoni [Arena] Shreckentaum (Etiquette_Gnome) vs. Corbin Nightwalker (renlim) : Krytos [Arena] LEVEL 4 FIGHTS Rubicanti (TheMagister) vs. Montana (UserNamer) : Vathelokai [Forest] [Week 3] Torel Silvanus (Erithmu) vs. Ventr the Dreamer (Milov) : Macbrea [Plains] Arasiel Treeshot (Kaigan) vs. Rusty Ryan (UserNamer) : DTFarstar [Cavern] LEVEL 5 FIGHTS Annalina Vale (Zevox) vs. Valen Sky (Hirumajoe) : McJarvis [Plains] Vath and McJ have reported that their fights will be done/are almost done. So that leaves us with 4 fights. I remember DTFarstar posting about an exploded computer, so that won't probably be done. Has anyone heard anything about Papapeperoni? I don't have any idea what is the status of Macbrea's and Krytos' fights. Papapeperoni wasn't around last week either. And none of his characters are active this week. My guess is he's gone for the moment and probably should be removed from the pitlord roster for the time being. |
| McJarvis11-21-06, 10:58 AM | I don't have any idea what is the status of Macbrea's and Krytos' fights. Krytos's roommate got a Wii this weekend. 'Nuff said. |
| DSugui11-21-06, 11:13 AM | I have some time, so I can take an easy fight. I can take one of these fights if the pitlord is confirmed not being able to run it: Dorn Farhand (Kaigan) vs. Matthis Dar'ath II (waywreth) : Papapeperoni [Arena] Arasiel Treeshot (Kaigan) vs. Rusty Ryan (UserNamer) : DTFarstar [Cavern]Maybe I can run both if I get tactics soon enough. |

Thanks for being understanding....I don't typically screw up fights like that... |
| Krytos11-21-06, 11:34 AM | Yea, sorry about disappearing like that. Mostly because of the Wii and a little bit of confusion for deadlines from the time changes. Anyway, I'm starting the fight now. |

Actually, +9 and +8 are both too high. He suffers a -4 to the check for the bow not being a melee weapon, so it should only be +5. Krytos's roommate got a Wii this weekend. 'Nuff said. Indeed. Pity I missed out on that - now I need to track one down before they all dissappear in the christmas shopping craze :weep: . Zevox |
| Hirumajoe11-21-06, 12:01 PM | Actually, +9 and +8 are both too high. He suffers a -4 to the check for the bow not being a melee weapon, so it should only be +5. Oh. Yeah, there is that. Although, now that I look at the disarm section of the SRD, does a bow get the +4 bonus for being a two handed weapon? Or do we just consider it a non-melee weapon and leave it at that? In any case its a moot point for this fight, although knowing for future fights would be handy. |
| McJarvis11-21-06, 12:04 PM | While requiring two hands, a Bow is not even classified as a "Two handed weapon", so it gains no +4 bonus. At least, that's my take on it |
| Zevox11-21-06, 12:11 PM | While requiring two hands, a Bow is not even classified as a "Two handed weapon", so it gains no +4 bonus. At least, that's my take on it I agree with that assessment. A two-handed weapon is one listed in the "two-handed weapons" section of the weapon lists. You can wield any weapon in two hands, and most ranged weapons require it, but only those that are actully listed as two-handed will get the benefit of that for things like disarm, sunder, etc. Zevox |
| Krytos11-21-06, 12:24 PM | Crap, guys. I'm sorry about this but my roommate's car just died on him. I'm not going to be able to finish the fight before the deadline. Could someone take over? I have the setup done, tactics posted, and the first round is done. Again, I apologize, but I need to go. Setup. The fight so far |

A two-handed weapon is any weapon that is currently being wielded in two hands. i.e. - a longsword qualifies as being a two-handed weapon if the character has declared that he is wielding it in two hands. I remember a FAQ question detailing this very issue. Certain inappropriately-sized smaller weapons may be impossible to wield in two hands. TM |

TM Even if that's the case, a bow isn't weilded in two hands-> it requires two hands to operate. though for general knowledge we should clear this up... |
| TheMagister11-21-06, 01:19 PM | You misunderstood Sunwolf. What Sunwolf meant to say is Hood is a frickin beast ;) By the way, thanks for that. It's nice to be noticed. :bravo: |
| Krytos11-21-06, 02:03 PM | Well, I'm back and seeing as no one picked up the fight while I was out, I'm back to working on it. |

A two-handed weapon is any weapon that is currently being wielded in two hands. i.e. - a longsword qualifies as being a two-handed weapon if the character has declared that he is wielding it in two hands. This is the way it has been ruled before. This came up in one of my character's fights, Manzarf vs Evaine, I think. Ariel had in her tactics to make Evaine wield her weapons with both hands to get the +4 against sundering. I asked about it, and it was ruled that she would indeed get the bonus. |
| Macbrea11-21-06, 02:43 PM | Ventr vs Torel [plains] can be found here. And generally speaking if people are wondering I do my fights on monday. This week I ate some killer chili or pork that said otherwise! |
| TheMagister11-21-06, 02:59 PM | Ventr vs Torel [plains] can be found here. I want a hippogriffin! |

| Krytos11-21-06, 04:25 PM | Corbin vs. Shreck is up. I did the best I could with the time and the default tactics. Sorry about being so late. |
| Etiquette_Gnome11-21-06, 05:15 PM | I would argue as to why you would have Shreck full-out run from something, getting that -20 penalty to Hide, when a double-move would allow a safe distance without such a severe penalty...but I don't know how much I can argue over improvisation when I didn't send tactics; though that was because I assumed my default was sufficient (and relied on not doing something like running to hide). |
| MindWandererB11-21-06, 07:37 PM | @DSugui and Vath, Re: "The Haunted House": The SRD (Combat->Combat Modifiers) shows that ranged attacks, but not melee attacks, are subject to hitting either participant in a grapple at random. |
| DSugui11-21-06, 07:52 PM | Thanks, MWB. I knew it was something like that. |
| Vathelokai11-22-06, 01:25 AM | Well folks, I've never done this before, but there's a first time for everything. I have no time to finish my fight this week. It's already been held over for 2 weeks! Someone PLEASE pick it up! The fight has been partially run; the hunting down and buffing and stuff is over. It's to the meat of the fight, so it shouldn't take too long. Just copy the whole post, remove the quote tags and it's ready to repost. The fight and setup Rolls thus far (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=811) |

Enjoy. Thanks for the nice story! I liked the way you caught Ikhain and his murderous nature. (Well, not that part when he swings around like a maniac with the butterfly net, but I'll forgive you that in the name of entertainment! :)) Nice work, and good to see that you still can find time for the CoCo! |

| Hirumajoe11-22-06, 11:33 AM | @McJarvis and Zevox: I think there was one mistake made on the rewards for the Valen/Annalina fight. Annalina should have used 2 charges from her Dorjes of Force screen for it to be in effect all the way to round 32. I.e. 1st charge to round 22, 2nd charge to round 42 or so. Thanks. |
| Guildmaster (EHTC)11-22-06, 11:37 AM | @ McJarvis - Hirumajoe is correct. 2 charges of the Force Screen dorje. And please include the taxes Annalina gathered for the EHTC (13%, so 208 gp). Zevox |
| Guildmaster_LOY11-22-06, 11:40 AM | @ McJarvis - Hirumajoe is correct. 2 charges of the Force Screen dorje. And please include the taxes Annalina gathered for the EHTC (13%, so 208 gp). Zevox I cut it to 1 charge since I didn't account for the dorjes being ML 2 edit-> *looking at Hirm's post* Huh..I see. I wonder how that happened? Ah well-> I'll go make the appropriate changes. |
| TelinArtho11-22-06, 11:45 AM | I haven't changed the rewards for the Team WAR vs Leif fight yet since I am waiting for a response from Cat on whether a change is needed in the rules. I apologize if this is of some inconvenience, but having 2 elders decide that a rule of the CoCo is incorrect on the fly is not necessarily something I agree with (and in this case, I happen to actually disagree). I'm sorry I didn't voice this earlier, but I've been absent the past couple of days for training at work. /d |
