Fights of the Week: October 10th

Please don't edit the sheet after the deadline or you will lose the match.

Rules of Gladius
All that you need to know is written in the Rules of Gladius.
It could be useful also to give a look to the Court Decisions Part 1 and Part 2.
Please do not make fake accounts or insult the Elders.

Pairings
GM MindwandererB will pair the active Characters of Gladius after the deadline.
Link to pairings.
Make sure that your character is not in prison.

Pitlording
You should use the CoCo Dice Roller (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com) for the fight.
If you need it, there is a nice template ready to use that will help.
You could find the Battle Map Tag Generator (http://www.hwx.it/coco) for dynamic Maps very useful. You must post a link to your fight in this thread when it is complete.
If you need a quick and dirty tool to calculate distances between two points (in 2-D or 3-D), this tool used to suffice until it got taken down without giving us proper notification... the Nerve
Another useful link is the Quick Access tables for XP and Gold.
If a fight needs to be rerun, the Pitlord has to inform the Pitlords account. He cannot react to requests from Players because the other player and the pitlord might disagree. He has no time to read the fight and the discussion. Please keep that in mind. PMs from players with rerun requests won't have an impact.

Recent News and Developments
Recently decided in the courtroom is to adjust the Augmentation lines for Dispel Psionics. You can check this in the Court Decisions, under the Magic/Psionics section
Currently up for discussion in the courtroom are the rules regarding Metamorphic transfer
Currently up for discussion in the council are the rules regarding Crafting time.
Please stop by the Community/Guild Discussion thread to provide some input on the two side games we are working on.

Comments & Concerns
Post any comments or concerns for this weeks fights in this thread.
Be kind and courteous to your fellow posters, and don't feed the pitlords.
Please remember that they do hard work and consume a lot of time to let you play. Above all, have FUN!

If you have questions or comments on any of the changes, please make your posts be heard in the Council of Gladius!

Pitlords beware - A rather Nasty fight to pitlord is possible this week in ECL 6 Between the Wiener wadlbeisser Team (if they actually set themselfves as ready) - and the "eternal dreamless sleep" team (snake eyes (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=13943591&postcount=1236) , and the mercifull killer (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=13948566&postcount=1237)) which has yet to be rostered - 5 Chars, 2 Horses, 1 familiar - who will triumph...

p.s. I cant remmber the last time anyone did a Sorcerer around here (barring battle sorcerers)

Well, unless I finish the fight that they are in... it won't be happening anyway... Feeling a little under-the-weather from a Release party for work last night (Whiskey on a Tuesday just doesn't mix well with going to work the next day...).

As for sorcerers - Dr Funk has Vivi and one of the more famous is Sunwolf's Leif (though both have been absent lately).

Another possible nasty fight to pitlord could be The Chameleon vs Baelin in the ECL11.

just came in (from bed) to set my fighters ready... anyone know whether i can ready verren or not? seems to me eluria has some issues with the fight, but actually i don't know what will happen to this fight...

ps: on the roster, his stats already claim 1:3....

@ team: well, its easy for us if it gets hold over - mucki is away, i am sick, and lonewolf has lots of other chars to activate. ;)

In instances like this, I think it's up to the pitlord and the other player.

I was considering making the changes Eluria is requesting, so I'm inclined to grant the request; are you okay with having the fight held over for revisions whitebaron?

as you have already noticed when criticising my tactics, i don't care a lot about verren, since i think this kind of build can not work out like my try. you need to either get wizard or psion 3 first, then switch to secondary class... most likely, i'll dump him and rebuild at another time.

so feel free to do anything you feel inclined to, i won't oppose anything. just say what you want to do. ;)

How about a 3 way fight. The Chameleon vs Baelin vs Valen Sky at ECL 11.

That might just be worse. :)

I got a brief reprieve, so I can elaborate; my father-in-law just got stabbed by a random passer-by. Not dangerously or anything, but my wife and I are going to head over to see him in minutes. If Telin (or Sauro) can't do the pairings and the few remaining updates, I'll handle them as soon as I can, but that may not be until tomorrow.

'Rith... keep an eye out... my father-in-law lives in South Pasadena... so there's a knife-wielding loony somewhere in your general vicinity.

That doesn't sound good at all MWB - good luck and hopefully things turn out okay.

I'll work on the pairings right away (and try not to screw things up too badly...)

Grrr... might have hit a snag here.

@MWB - I can't verify pitlords since I don't have the email address associated for it. If you don't see this before you leave - I guess that means pairing will have to wait.

Luckily all of the changes I've made are all local - so nothing has actually been posted yet.

Of course a side problem of all this is my main account is lost in the ether at the moment...
whitebaron

10-10-07, 04:08 PM
@telin: why is it lost?
SauroGrenom

10-10-07, 04:12 PM
Telin,

I tried to log into the pitlords account, and I don't have the necessary info. What a minute, I'll check some old logs, and I may be able to find Cat's old email address, and then migrate the account over...

That's assuming that the password and email address are the same as they were when Cat was running the show.
Guildmaster (CEF)

10-10-07, 04:12 PM
I have no clue... I sent a PM to the community liason to hopefully get it resolved. The only thing I can think of is the remote possibility that my main account was on another email address (and I'm almost certain that it wasn't) or that not all of the accounts were migrated at once.

I frankly don't know. It is annoying to be on this account - because it is largely useless to me...

If you were referring to the Pitlords account - that one should be under MWB's email address - so it would rely on him verifying it before someone else could try to login.
Guildmaster (CEF)

10-10-07, 04:13 PM
@Sauro - I believe the account was updated with MWB's email. In any case - I don't want to touch it in case something is going on behind the scenes (not sure what - but I don't want to screw it up - my account already is...)
SauroGrenom

10-10-07, 04:15 PM
I just migrated my account over, and there's a message that goes to your email, and you follow the link... and so on to migrate the account over to the new system.

We are stuck till MWB can migrate Pitlords over.

10-10-07, 04:20 PM

Geez, they could give us Aussies some warning!

I've had to create this account so I can do my tactics before the deadlines, since the migration feature is blocked until Friday. I'll only use this account in emergencies, but I think this counts as an emergency.

Also, if my tactics are not out within 24 hours of this post, please consider the following as emergency tactics for Petyr and Rennae:

Start with the rifle drawn, as close to the centre as possible.
Round 1: Manifest Animal Affinity (Dex).
Round 2: Manifest Offensive Prescience (1pp)
Round 3: Manifest Offensive Precognition (1pp)
Round 4+: Move out anticlockwise.

Shoot on sight, interrupting buffs as necessary. Resume buffing once sight is lost. On the first attack:
1) that hits on a 10 or less, with no miss chances (AFAIK)
2) that hits on an 8 or less, with at most a 20% miss chance (again AFAIK)
3) that is againts my opponent's normal AC
use Psionic Shot. Use the Wand of CLW when below 10hp, until full. Break LOS while healing.

If facing someone with Deflect Arrows on any map but the Plains, try to hide all displays. Once buffs are completed, break LOS, hide, and try to get a shot at a flat-footed target. On the Plains vs Deflect Arrows, surrender.

Start front and centre. Attempt to hide all displays. Round 1: Manifest Force Screen from memory.
If the opponent has both a Will save vs telepathy of +6 or less and 10 or less Charisma, Ego Whip for a coma (5 times). If they have an 8 or less Charisma, Ego Whip regardless of Will save.
If they have a +7 or better Will save and a 9 or better Charisma, start with two stones of Astral Construct in hand. Move out clockwise, but ready to begin a 3pp Astral Construct from memory on sight (Std). Choose Celerity and Trip as abilities, and create it somewhere it can charge the opponent if possible. Begin another construct. Have the first constructstep aside so the next can charge, if necessary. Use focus on any Concentration check above DC 13. Prioritise higher checks for focus expenditure where multiple are needed. Once pp are depleted, use the two stones, meaning 7 constructs in all. Once they're all out, draw both dorjes and close, then shoot an Entangling Ectoplasm, backed up with ERay (Fire) until the fight ends. If Fire doesn't work, try Cold, then Electric, then finally Sonic. Stick with any that work. Similarly, if anyone survives the Ego Whip barrage, Entangling Ectoplasm + ERay + hope.

trust me. you're not the only one with troubles. ;)

looks like the wizards technical staff could need some lessons on software reliability with migration-background. well, "next time" all will be better. ;)

btw:

Workaround while migration page is down (from WotC_DaveG):
When you click the login link and go to the Gleemax account page, you can say "Forgot password" to have your password sent to you via email. When you get that email, click the link to complete that process and then you should be able to log into Gleemax normally from the Gleemax account page.
CallixBackup

10-11-07, 06:29 AM
Thanks, whitebaron, but I tried that. The reset password link won't work for me, for whatever reason. It just says "a technical error has occured". Backup account for this week it is. At least I'm not pitlording this week.

Note to whoever does the pairings: Please don't assign me any fights. Not only is my account in stasis, I'm away this weekend. I've asked to be assigned no further fights until further notice, but I don't want this to slip by in all the chaos, so I'll post it publicly.
Guildmaster (CEF)

10-11-07, 09:43 AM
@whitebaron - that method seems to be the suggested method at this point. That said - when I use my email for it - I don't get the error that Callix mentions - it just says that it sends the email... and I never receive it (and I have no spam filters on that account either...)

I have gone through and compiled ECLs 3-6 for pairings.

Did the Balthazar vs. Gakhnalak fight and the Felice vs. Team Weiner fight get held over? If not add them to the following list with the according non-pair able opponents.

Character: previous opponents

ECL 3
----------------
Verger Stonewall: Sylean, Alacrity
Sylean'delues: Verger, Matsuni
Alacrity: Verger
Kykal Aiba:
Shugo-zact: Zodiac II
Lord Matsuni: Sylean
Nemion:
Gol'lie O'rean:
Mineau Guwango:
Zodiac II: Shugo

ECL 4
----------------
Petyr Darry:
Rennae Longhollow: Gwerdan, Wooly, Wroth, Ackbar
Wroth Kortek: Rennae
Kai Engel:
Darian Thorne: Wooly
Ackbar Stormsword: Rennae
Gwerdan "Twofist" Grummler: Rennae
Wooly: Rennae

ECL 5
----------------
Ikhain al-Habari:
Graashnak Vruuurk: Shadow Inq.
Inzin Dar'ath:
Shadow Inquisition: Graashnak (only one character on this team has "Ready for Oct 10th")

ECL 6
----------------
Kilor Mintolo:

Possibly-->
Balthazar Picsou: Gakhnalak
Gakhnalak Strongjaw: Balthazar
Felice tu'Ria: Wiener
Wiener Wadlbeisser: Felice

The only thing preventing the Pairingsmaker from working is the fact that the Character's were only partially updated for this week.

The higher leagues seem to lack active characters, so unless someone else sees something I have missed. ECL 3-6 are going to be the only ones with fights if pairings are made this week...

I don't know if this helps at all. But I figured I would give it a shot...

Well, I know there's at least 3 ECL 11s active this week:

Valen Sky
The Chameleon
Baelin the Shadow

Not sure about the other ECLs.
Guildmaster (CEF)

10-11-07, 02:24 PM
@Taureus - the issue is not that the pairingsmaker is down. It works fine as long as the roster is updated correctly.

The problem is that while I was working on the pairings, the new login system went into effect. This made it so that I cannot access Pitlords account until MWB verifies it.

With things the way they are - it is just going to mean a week break. Hopefully I'll be able to get my real account back by then...
Taureus_Drakken

10-11-07, 03:10 PM
@ Guildmaster (CEF): I know the pairingsmaker isn't down, that's how I decided to put some effort into seeing if I could help out. And as you said, it's a matter of the roster being updated.

I don't have a problem waiting a week anyway. (Figured I would put that out there as well, since I am not the only one) I just figured I would try and be helpful in case somehow, it would be possible to get things going this week.

Going through, I did notice that quite a few fighter's hadn't been updated...So it is possible that people ran into problems trying to migrate their accounts, and weren't able to update them for this weeks' pairings.

¬Taureus¬
Guildmaster (CEF)

10-11-07, 03:17 PM
(By the way - in case you didn't know - this is TelinArtho)

As to people not updating - that's actually pretty common. The roster includes characters that are not active from week to week and some players only update when they are ready to activate that character. For instance, Ialgo (active this week) wasn't updated for 2 weeks while I prepared for my quest.

Anyway - back to trying to resolve the mystery of me not being able to log into my correct account...

Guildmaster (CEF)

10-11-07, 03:54 PM
Except it wouldn't have that "prestigious" title of "Core Coliseum Elder" and "Uncon Winner" attached to it...

And the whole reason I am real anxious about it is I decided to actually enter the Master DM Competition that is active right now... which of course ends - tomorrow...

Plus - I use "TelinArtho2" as my character name in a MMORPG (which is another story altogether...)

So pairings weren't done at all, I see now. Okay. I need to get some food in me, and then I'll tackle them.

Edit: Actually, maybe I'll hold off on that. Since so many people are having account issues, and we're over a day late already, it may be best to forget about this week. Sound good?
Guildmaster (CEF)

10-11-07, 05:18 PM
MWB - it might be a good idea to wait a week anyway. I know I'm not the only one having connection issues (I just happen to have another account to make use of). If not - fine with me - but I would expect a number of auto-wins/losses due to non-submittal of tactics.
MindWandererB

And holdovers due to non-receipt of tactics. Yeah, we'll wait a week while we try to get this all sorted out. I'm sure the WizOs are unhappy about all the redundant accounts people are creating because they can't migrate, too.

you mean the one totally blind vs the three partially blinded?

light+lowlightvision = 80ft, touchsight = 60ft

but i'll buy a bullseye lantern for the future. touchsight users are really annoying, and with such a lantern, you get 240ft illumination with low light vision, which beats touchsight to the grave.

10-12-07, 08:37 AM
Yes, but by holding the light you illuminate yourself to your opponent. Anyone without the light is out-sighted by Felice, anyone with the light is spotted by Felice. Kind of a lose-lose in my book.

we'll see. as for the bullseye lantern: you won't see anyone behind the lantern. that's another reason to buy one of those and forget about this close to useless light-cantrips...

This is the hardcode example of the lighting effects. Now to attach those to each player and add 4 seperate sources.

Interesting, looks good!

Any possibility for functionality of bulls-eye lanterns? (Damnable facing, creeps into the games many ways, like permanent cones).

@MWB: do you want characters updated for Oct 17th ready or will you just transfer any of the 10ths over to ready?I'll pair anyone set ready for either date.Any possibility for functionality of bulls-eye lanterns? It's a cone, but it's emitted from the manifester's eyes, so it always faces wherever they're looking.

3.5D&D assumes that all characters are constantly spinning in circles & surveying their surroundings. Except situations in which an object could not fit in the cone, I'd say treat it like a sphere effect. [Or situations where multiple things need to be spotted, in which case I'd have the cone stop at the first one.]

Work it like a Light spell.. should be about the same..

More or less. It should probably turn into a cone if the manifester is paralyzed, and turned off completely if the manifester is rendered unconscious (eyes closed).

@Telin: Are you planning to run the Team vs Felice fight before the next pairings, or is that one hold of for another week?

At this point, I'm still not sure. I've started running it - but I'm only about 10 rounds in. It is my first fight to really struggle with lighting conditions as both sides are trying to use it to their advantage - so it is difficult to map out and to handle accordingly.

Unfortunately, my weekend (normally quite busy to begin with) was flooded with activities with my kids and has resulted in me getting a cold (said kids and their friends are always a good source for colds...) and knocked me out of clear condition for a couple of days. Even today I'm out of sorts because I have to make up for the work I missed yesterday.

So all in all - it is likely to be held over. I would prefer to do the fight justice so I can give a firm grasp on my opinion on lighting effects rather than just do a half-assed job that I can't give any useful feedback.

I apologize that it is taking so long - but things happen.

Its ok, just take your time.

We probably wouldnt have activated the Party this week anyway.

And Felice wasn't going to be active either, so no guilt from my side either.

How hard is it to rouse someone out of a Drow Poison sleep?

Wondering if it's feasible for a familiar/pcrystal/animal companion to do so. This is actually relevant to a fight, I'm (finally) finishing up Rauul's MQ. He might just succeed!

Drow Poison causes Unconsciousness, not Sleep. In D&D, there's no way short of magic healing to remove the Unconscious condition (I think Restoration, Greater Restoration and Heal can do this), and in real-world terms we're talking anaethesia, not sleepiness.

Groovy. Good thing because that's how I ruled it and went on ahead ^_^ Thanks for the confirmation though.
