| waywreth10-04-06, 01:32 PM | Fights of the Week: October 4th Sheets Deadline for editing characters sheets is 21:00 CET. Central European Time (http://wwp.centraleuropeantime.eu/) shows the time. Please don't edit the sheet after the deadline or you will lose the match. Rules of Gladius All that you need to know is written in the Rules of Gladius. It could be useful also to give a look to the Court Decisions part 1 and part 2. Please do not make fake accounts or insult the Elders. Pairings GM Caterane will pair the active Characters of Gladius after the deadline. Make sure that your character is not in Prison (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=571107&goto=lastpost). Pitlording You should use the CoCo Dice Roller (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com) for the fight. If you need, there is a nice Template ready to use that will help. You could find very useful the Battle Map Tag Generator (http://www.hwx.it/coco) for dynamic Maps, You must post a link to your fight in this thread when it is complete. Other useful links are Skills and Feats, Quick Access tables for XP and Gold. Recent News and Developments Skill Package Activities: Skill Packages are a combination of two or more skills or abilities that can be used in conjunction with a Free Activity to perform certain activities, many of them affecting your fight in a beneficial way. In order to use them, you must fulfill the skill requirements and pass the "Task" (mentioned in the entry) to benefit from the "Effect". As with all Free Activities, this must go into the title line of your sheet along with your ready status. Comments & Concerns Post any comments or concerns for this weeks fights in this thread. Be kind and courteous to your fellow posters, don't attack pitlords. Please remember that they do hard work and consume a lot of time to let you play and above all, have FUN! If you have questions or comments on any of the changes, please make your posts be heard in the Council of Gladius! |
| Zelck10-04-06, 02:55 PM | @Whichever fighters I get assigned: I'll be busy this week, so you have until noon on Friday, EST time to send in your tactics. @Whichever pitlord gets Andurwin's fight: Can I request an extension for my tactics? I'll definitely be able to get them in by 8:00 PM Friday EST. Hopefully, I'll get it in sooner, but you never know... |
| Pittbull10-04-06, 05:10 PM | If we are short of Pitlords, I can do a fight. Sorry, that I didn't send a PM. |
| hogarth10-04-06, 05:16 PM | If we are short of Pitlords, I can do a fight. Sorry, that I didn't send a PM. I can probably do an extra fight as well (two total) since I don't have any plans for the Canadian Thanksgiving long weekend. |
| TelinArtho10-04-06, 06:00 PM | @NiQil - have you been cheating again... :) Amantar (NiQil) [Power: 1400 (1000); 0 won, 0 lost] Atalan (NiQil) [Power: 1400 (1000); 0 won, 0 lost] Axhind (NiQil) [Power: 1400 (1000); 0 won, 0 lost] Keltsat (NiQil) [Power: 1400 (1000); 0 won, 0 lost] Kermadec (NiQil) [Power: 1400 (1000); 0 won, 0 lost] Kerst (NiQil) [Power: 1400 (1000); 0 won, 0 lost] Note the power rating and win/loss record... |
| MindWandererB10-04-06, 06:06 PM | @NiQil - have you been cheating again... :) Note the power rating and win/loss record... Heh... looks like those were copy/pasted from the ECL 4's by accident. |
| Pitlords10-04-06, 06:10 PM | Nah, I made a deal with him. No prison sentences for my PC in the next 6 months :P @Anaconda/UserNamer: I removed your Anaconda characters. One account only please. I have counted 12 of yours by now. Please comply. |
| McJarvis10-04-06, 06:15 PM | I can probably do an extra fight as well (two total) since I don't have any plans for the Canadian Thanksgiving long weekend. I feel like lots of pittlords doing 2 fights each is much preferable to giving telin 15 fights per week. Good show you two :) though watching him scramble every week is getting amusing. ;) |
| TelinArtho10-04-06, 06:19 PM | I don't scramble... I reprioritize... Can't believe that we have had yet another multiple-account going on. Good job Cat for catching him. |
| McJarvis10-04-06, 06:20 PM | I don't scramble... I reprioritize... Can't believe that we have had yet another multiple-account going on. Good job Cat for catching him. Oh, that's not allowed? I won't tell anyone that I'm really NiQil then. ;) As far as your pitlording- I am pretty much in awe of the bulk fights you can do with such good quality. I'm afraid of going up to three fights a week for fear of crashing. |
| NiQil10-04-06, 06:21 PM | Oh, that's not allowed? I won't tell anyone that I'm really NiQil then. ;) As far as your pitlording- I am pretty much in awe of the bulk fights you can do. I'm afriad of going up to three fights a week for fear of crashing. Really? Good...you can do the Prison update this week...I'm going to the Bahamas LOL |
| McJarvis10-04-06, 06:23 PM | Really? Good...you can do the Prison update this week...I'm going to the Bahamas LOL Apparently you didn't read my post. We're NOT telling anyone that little nugget. If I did the prison update it would just be too obvious. :P ;) |
| NiQil10-04-06, 06:25 PM | @NiQil - have you been cheating again... :) Note the power rating and win/loss record... Of course I have....I have some pull with Prisonlords...he gets me all kinds of free goodies too. New license plates...soap on a rope by the truckload...spiffy bright orange jumpsuits.... |
| Pittbull10-04-06, 06:25 PM | I don't scramble... I reprioritize... Can't believe that we have had yet another multiple-account going on. Good job Cat for catching him. GRRRR, who was it? |
| NiQil10-04-06, 06:26 PM | GRRRR, who was it? Anaconda/Usernamer....same one it's always been... |
| MindWandererB10-04-06, 06:27 PM | GRRRR, who was it? Interestingly enough, the one whose "friend" (Greezer) did the same thing and got caught and banned a few months ago. One would think that would have been a learning opportunity. |
| Pittbull10-04-06, 06:28 PM | Anaconda/Usernamer....same one it's always been... Unbelievable!! |
| McJarvis10-04-06, 06:29 PM | Unbelievable!! it's crumbelievable. |
| Book510-04-06, 06:33 PM | (on topic?) At least I don't use my mups to scam coco. .. then again I barely manage to scrape the time to work with two characters let alone 12... Umm... is this violation (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=10234650) gonna stop Tan from fighting.. again? |
| MindWandererB10-04-06, 06:35 PM | (on topic?) At least I don't use my mups to scam coco. .. then again I barely manage to scrape the time to work with two characters let alone 12... Umm... is this violation (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=10234650) gonna stop Tan from fighting.. again? Nope. Tan has an [A], not a [P], so you're gold. |
| hogarth10-04-06, 06:35 PM | Anaconda/Usernamer....same one it's always been... Er...I have to confess I suspected something when Anaconda posted a complaint (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=10200577&postcount=245), the complaint disappeared, and then soon afterwards Usernamer made the identical complaint (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=10202531&postcount=249)... |
| TelinArtho10-04-06, 06:37 PM | Nice catch hogarth. |
| NiQil10-04-06, 06:37 PM | No...he's not in prison for it yet...he's just been violated....err....yeah  |
| lonewolf10-04-06, 06:41 PM | Nice catch hogarth. Actually, I noticed it too and PM´d Cat about it. |
| Papapeperoni10-04-06, 06:44 PM | In the effort to reveal the truth, I would like to note, as I have said way back, that I now Usernamer IRL and Anaconda is not his. It is owned by another friend of mine, and due to them being at each other's places a lot, they sometimes tend to get mixed up with accounts. Simply put, Anaconda is not Usernamer, and both persons are only using the respective account in the CoCo. PS: If any MQ's are left, I'd be happy to questlord one (be gentle, it's my first time ;)). Greetings, --Papapeperoni |
| Book510-04-06, 06:53 PM | No...he's not in prison for it yet...he's just been violated....err....yeah  my my! I leave the little fellow alone for a couple weeks and look what kinda trouble he gets into! :mymy:  omg new smilies!!!!!! :mrt: :duel: :detect: cool ..urm :tie: pardon.. I'll go hide under a chair now.. :hides: woot! :bravo: |
| Book510-04-06, 06:55 PM | Simply put, Anaconda is not Usernamer, and both persons are only using the respective account in the CoCo. aww, now that is gonna be.. hrm.. how does one go about verifying something like this? A couple long distance calls to germany? |
| NiQil10-04-06, 06:55 PM | In the effort to reveal the truth, I would like to note, as I have said way back, that I now Usernamer IRL and Anaconda is not his. Greetings, --Papapeperoni That might be fine and good if this was an isolated incident, but it's not. This is what....the 6th or 7th time this has been brought up with this person/people? Simply put, even if they are seperate people, they have been warned repeatedly about their actions, and the behavior hasn't stopped. |
| Pitlords10-04-06, 07:04 PM | @Papa: Well, that's the problem if you cheated 11 times. No one believes you for the 12th. @Anaconda: If you're truly not Usernamer/Greezer then I apologize but you surely understand that with our past experiences with him we have to assume it's an alternate account from your roomate. @User: I didn't remove your characters since I still hope you get back into the line and obey the rules. I know you like CoCo; please help us to keep it running by not burdening our sparse pitlords with alternate accounts. Pairings done +6: Caterane +5: Vathelokai +4: DSugui, Erithmu +3: Sauro, UserNamer, Zevox, Stormwind, Uther +2: Abyssal, hogarth, lonewolf, McJarvis, Mindwanderer +1: FalseKeraptis, Jerrick, Macbrea, Papapeperoni, Pittbull, Telin, Zelck, Niqil, Hirumajoe If MWB finishes the manuals, we can soon begin to simplify ECL 3 & 4 as discussed. I'm sure that makes it easier to join CoCo. And things like alternate accounts or pitlord shortages won't be a problem if Drac finishes his pitlordinator. @Papa again: Cool. Pick one Miniquest :) Alexander von Wright (Jerrick_QueKiri) miniquests to join EHTC : XXXXX [Miniquest] Maglu Hrugg (Sjiggie) miniquests to join EHTC : XXXXX [Miniquest] Torel Silvanus (Erithmu) miniquests to join TLT : XXXXX [Miniquest] [Week 2] |
| Erithmu10-04-06, 07:06 PM | quick question in ECL 5: Izumi and Anakala are double paired. Is this because of the hold over, or .... ? |
| MindWandererB10-04-06, 07:08 PM | The problem is, it appears that Anaconda maintains only one account, and just forgets to log out when his friends use his computer. Negligent, but not criminal. And, unfortunately, difficult to prove. However, their writing and character design are very different (unlike Greezer's alter egos, which all sounded the same). They need to be more careful, is all. Photos would help (although this being the internet, it's not infallible). And I'm willing to trust PapaPeperoni on this one. |
| Vathelokai10-04-06, 07:08 PM | There is an ecl 9 paired monster fight. Should I roll on el 9 monster table or el 11. |
| NiQil10-04-06, 07:09 PM | quick question in ECL 5: Izumi and Anakala are double paired. Is this because of the hold over, or .... ? Probably an error...easy fix is to slide Andurwin into the FFA in place of Anakala |
| Pitlords10-04-06, 07:12 PM | quick question in ECL 5: Izumi and Anakala are double paired. Is this because of the hold over, or .... ? Weird. The pairingsmaker paired them despite me having them listed as [E] not [A]. Anyway: Andurwin Calathos (Zelck) vs. Tan (Book5) : McJarvis [Forest] Shadowsong (Erithmu) vs. vs. Vivi (Dr.Funk) : lonewolf [Plains]] lonewolf -1° for losing the all vs all fight |
| lonewolf10-04-06, 07:13 PM | There is an ecl 9 paired monster fight. Should I roll on el 9 monster table or el 11. you have to roll twice on the EL 9 table |
| Jerrick_QueKiri10-04-06, 07:20 PM | Alexander von Wright (Jerrick_QueKiri) miniquests to join EHTC : XXXXX [Miniquest] Maglu Hrugg (Sjiggie) miniquests to join EHTC : XXXXX [Miniquest] Torel Silvanus (Erithmu) miniquests to join TLT : XXXXX [Miniquest] [Week 2] Actually, Abyssal is running Alexander's again, and I said I'd do Maglu's for Sjiggie. :D |
| Book510-04-06, 07:21 PM | Weird. The pairingsmaker paired them despite me having them listed as [E] not [A]. Anyway: Andurwin Calathos (Zelck) vs. Tan (Book5) : McJarvis [Forest] :D |
| Erithmu10-04-06, 07:21 PM | @Cat/Pitlords: cool (one less FFA for me), and actually you have them listed as [A] on the roster. @Lonewolf: Your operation is up. |
| Vathelokai10-04-06, 07:21 PM | Chameleon (Lonewolf) & Aerryl (MindWandererB) vs. Unknown Monsters : Vathelokai [cavern] Monster Info: A large giant, which happens to be invisible. And a large black lizard looking thing. Posting the page now; will have init and starting box info to help your cause. |
| SauroGrenom10-04-06, 07:27 PM | Pitlords, A new PSI Recruit was missed somehow. His title line reads: Ready for (October) (4th) [Fight (1)] - Miniquest (SauroGrenom): EL 3 - Psi You can find the character at this post. No big deal, since I can run the MQ anyway, but it should be on the roster. Thanks, Sauro That's one extra credit for me...:D |
| Caterane10-04-06, 07:29 PM | Ok, in that case, these are remaining: Besthirah Lafali (MindWandererB) miniquests to join TLT : XXXXX [Miniquest] Torel Silvanus (Erithmu) miniquests to join TLT : XXXXX [Miniquest] [Week 2] I mean who wants to join TLT anyway these days :D @Book: You made it in this week! Congrats :D @Sauro: Added. |
| Vathelokai10-04-06, 07:33 PM | Chameleon (Lonewolf) & Aerryl (MindWandererB) vs. Unknown Monsters : Vathelokai [cavern] Monster Info: A large giant, which happens to be invisible. And a large black lizard looking thing. Posting the page now; will have init and starting box info to help your cause. LInky Lucky you guys. You start in the same box with first initiative. *EDIT* I assume burglary works against monster? If so I will have a list of expendables to steal by tommorrow. I have to leave for work now. |
| Jerrick_QueKiri10-04-06, 07:34 PM | Pitlords, A new PSI Recruit was missed somehow. His title line reads: Ready for (October) (4th) [Fight (1)] - Miniquest (SauroGrenom): EL 3 - Psi You can find the character at this post. No big deal, since I can run the MQ anyway, but it should be on the roster. Thanks, Sauro That's one extra credit for me...:D Actually, that was my fault, lol. Sorry about that. I had forgotten to pm Pitlords this morning saying she was active. |
| NiQil10-04-06, 07:40 PM | @ Zelck: Tactics for War in the held over fight forwarded via PM. @ hogarth: Tactics for Pestilence vs Team Milov sent via PM. @ Vathelokai: Preliminary ideas for our fight vs Kitty sent @ Zevox: You'll have those as soon as Vath and I coordinate. |
| McJarvis10-04-06, 07:40 PM | Lo! An epic battle is about to take place. Me and Ned are fighting each other at last. If only Ned the Rouge Saint had been the first of my characters to fight Rymnd. Even more ironic is that Ned is who I asked to look over The Chosen One before I posted him fully last night. ;) |
| McJarvis10-04-06, 07:52 PM | In other news, Telin has to deal with Mort in a forest. I'm so sorry :( |
| Maraxus10-04-06, 08:47 PM | Wow, I realised that Kon (NedTheDestroyer) & Durin (Maraxus) vs. Carandol (Etiquette_Gnome) & Zax Kar (TelinArtho) : DSugui Actually means: Kon and Valdorn and Durin and Sleipnir vs Carandol and Barak and Zax Kar and Food and Trident and Net. Wow, allies massed. |
| McJarvis10-04-06, 08:50 PM | Wow, I realised that Kon (NedTheDestroyer) & Durin (Maraxus) vs. Carandol (Etiquette_Gnome) & Zax Kar (TelinArtho) : DSugui Actually means: Kon and Valdorn and Durin and Sleipnir vs Carandol and Barak and Zax Kar and Food and Trident and Net. Wow, allies massed. heh. that's one that'll overload the mapmaker, now won't it? :) |
| Zevox10-04-06, 09:02 PM | Wow, I realised that Kon (NedTheDestroyer) & Durin (Maraxus) vs. Carandol (Etiquette_Gnome) & Zax Kar (TelinArtho) : DSugui Actually means: Kon and Valdorn and Durin and Sleipnir vs Carandol and Barak and Zax Kar and Food and Trident and Net. Wow, allies massed. I had a fight like that once. My Druid had a hunter involving her, her three wolves, Dameon Leonne and his horse, Valek Usher, and Enoch the Prophet and his mount (who also happens to be a cleric who likes to use summon spells). Total of 9 combatants before summoning begins. Anyway, I'll see who I can get tactics out for tonight, giving priority to the Guild ones. @ My players - I work most of saturday, and my schedule after that is unknown, so if I could run the fight friday it would be perfect. Zevox |
| hogarth10-04-06, 09:05 PM | @False_Keraptis: Tactics sent for Kilpquabjeg. |
| Maraxus10-04-06, 10:26 PM | Tactics for Noko sent to Pittbull. Tactics for Durin will have to wait for some cooperation with NedTheDestroyer. :) |
| Zevox10-04-06, 10:32 PM | @ TelinArtho - Tactics for Annalina Vale (vs Kervan Sheharath) PMed. Another fight for my Bard where its all up to saves vs Hold Person as to who will win. @ Erithmu - Tactics for Istima Telarc (vs Faelto) PMed. Shouldn't take long, even on that map. @ Zelck - Tactics for Destra Stormwind (vs War) forwarded. Well, thats my two Guild fights and the held over one. If I get time tonight I'll cook up tactics for the other two, but no promises. Zevox |
| Highfire10-04-06, 10:55 PM | TelinArtho: Sent PM of tactics for Kyst Depthice. ~Justin |
| Book510-04-06, 11:44 PM | @McJarvis - Tactics sent! hehe and I saved all my spells for fight three! :smirk: @Book: You made it in this week! Congrats :D see tavern post for further explanation of book5 tardiness. unfortunatly looking to continue for a period. |
| Erithmu10-05-06, 12:36 AM | @Abyssal: Tactics for Loddick sent via PM for the FFA @Lonewolf: Tactics for Shadowsong sent via PM. @Zevox: yea .. got em. |
| Pittbull10-05-06, 03:37 AM | Tactics for Noko sent to Pittbull. Tactics for Durin will have to wait for some cooperation with NedTheDestroyer. :) OMG, I have the pixie-fight! @DSugui: Please send me your tactic quickly, this will be a long fight. |
| Vathelokai10-05-06, 05:36 AM | @ Vathelokai: Preliminary ideas for our fight vs Kitty sent @ Zevox: You'll have those as soon as Vath and I coordinate. 99% of tactics sent to NiQil. Pending his approval, they will be submitted. |
| UserNamer10-05-06, 05:38 AM | aaaawww, I'm really not Anaconda, where just friends, we just stay at his place a lot! I did do the multiaccounting, but I'm not doing it any more, though some of his character idea's are mine, but he plays them! And i don't have to cheat, I have got credits now, I can play with multiple characters if I want. Edit: Plus our sheets look pretty different don't they??? |
| Papapeperoni10-05-06, 05:49 AM | @MindWandererB: I shall take Besthirah Lafali's MQ upon me. Expect it to be up tonight (could be tomorrow night). @All: I know about the multi-accounting, and if I recall, Mattes (another friend of mine) had sent Caterane a list of all the accounts that were his (the list was actually made by me, I just didn't want to send it, we're still friends after all). To clarify, these are the accounts we use(d). T. (Me) uses only Papapeperoni M. has used only Mattes (left a while ago) Kl. has used only Vulcanes (left even further back) E. has used Katana and now uses Anaconda Ka. has used many accounts, including Greezer and others, but only uses Usernamer ATM I know it was bad, and I have confronted Ka. with this fact many times. Currently, noone is using other accounts than the ones listed, the only problem is the clumsiness of some of E. and Ka. to sometimes switch up their accounts. So if it stays with only Anaconda and Usernamer, leave them be. If you spot another account, be my guest and unleash your rage :). Hope that clarified it. Greetings, --Papapeperoni |
| Pittbull10-05-06, 06:56 AM | @Abyssal: Tactic has been sent via PM. |
| Abyssal Stalker10-05-06, 07:18 AM | @Rith & Pittbull: tactics received. @DSugui: try to get your tactics for the FFA ASAP, I might be able to run the fight tonight. I'm busy at weekend and would like to take care of this before that! |
| Caterane10-05-06, 08:29 AM | @UserNamer & Anaconda: I'm willing to believe you this time. I've reactivated Barbosa. |
| waywreth10-05-06, 08:52 AM | @UserNamer - Tactics for Tweak (Vathelokai) & Nark Dar'ath (waywreth) vs. Farig of Denth sent via PM. |
| TheMagister10-05-06, 10:16 AM | @TelinArtho - Tactics for Tessero Valis vs. Krst Depthice sent via PM. That should do ya for that fight. TM |
| bgt10-05-06, 10:30 AM | Grr....put my characters as "Ready for Oct. 4, 2006". Off by a day. I need to pay more attention to my calendar. Well, anywho, I don't seem to have alot of stuff going on this weekend, so if anyone can't run a fight or if a miniquest needs running, I could take it. Also, I'm loving these new smilies. Did anyone else notice we can now stage a fight between a party of adventurers and a gelatinous cube? _____:fight!: :monk: :gel: :elf: ______:mage: That's some mad flanking there. |
| Erithmu10-05-06, 10:54 AM | Grr....put my characters as "Ready for Oct. 4, 2006". Off by a day. I need to pay more attention to my calendar. Actually both Luxt'l and Neidr are in prison, you had the right day. |

| Erithmu10-05-06, 11:24 AM | My Kingdom for a questlord .... Torel Silvanus (Erithmu) miniquests to join TLT : XXXXX [Miniquest] [Week 2] Please, don't make it hit a week three. Remember, only you can prevent fight holdovers. |
| hogarth10-05-06, 11:33 AM | @Traevanon,Papapapapepperoni: Tactics received for Grakkar vs. Khabil. In fact, the only one I'm waiting for now is Milov for the Milov + Milov vs. NiQil fight. |
| Maraxus10-05-06, 11:44 AM | My Kingdom for a questlord .... Torel Silvanus (Erithmu) miniquests to join TLT : XXXXX [Miniquest] [Week 2] Please, don't make it hit a week three. Remember, only you can prevent fight holdovers. Okay, I think, I can take it. PS: Okay, I checked did what I had to do for today, Checked the rules about questlording and am ready. But I want a word, that I should do it. (since I'm of questionable reputation, I think) |
| TelinArtho10-05-06, 12:04 PM | Tactics for Faelto sent to Erithmu Tactics for Anakala sent to DSugui Tactics for Farig sent to UserNamer Preliminary team tactics for Zax sent to EG. |

| Pittbull10-05-06, 01:28 PM | @DSugui: Tactics received, thanks a lot. @All: I have a question about dispelling see invisible from a hand of glory. If you want to dispel see invisible of a hand of glory, what do you have to target, the person who wears it or the item (hand) itself? Thanks for your help in advance. |
| Zevox10-05-06, 01:33 PM | @DSugui: Tactics received, thanks a lot. @All: I have a question about dispelling see invisible from a hand of glory. If you want to dispel see invisible of a hand of glory, what do you have to target, the person who wears it or the item (hand) itself? Thanks for your help in advance. Presuming the person has activated it, the person, and it will be vs the hand's CL (its an ongoing magic effect on the user at that point). Targetting the hand itself will just temporarily (for 1d4 rounds) suppress its ability to activate its powers. Zevox |
| Pittbull10-05-06, 01:39 PM | Thanks, then I was wrong... |
| UserNamer10-05-06, 01:45 PM | @McJaris, TelinArtho, Waywreth: tactics received |
| Zevox10-05-06, 01:48 PM | @ Macbrea - Tactics for Indrithia Celeth (vs Valen Sky) have been PMed. Heres hoping my Monk can leave ECL 4 with a bag :) . @ Sauro - Working on Eraca's tactics. Not sure if Dr. Funk is sending his own or not though... Zevox |

Gettin' all rules' lawyerly on ya. Can't flank an ooze...they're immune. =) |

| Pittbull10-06-06, 09:55 AM | In my fight I found a problem: How does a monk's belt work? Belt, Monk’s This simple rope belt, when wrapped around a character’s waist, confers great ability in unarmed combat. The wearer’s AC and unarmed damage is treated as a monk of five levels higher. If donned by a character with the Stunning Fist feat, the belt lets her make one additional stunning attack per day. If the character is not a monk, she gains the AC and unarmed damage of a 5th-level monk. This AC bonus functions just like the monk’s AC bonus. Moderate transmutation; CL 10th; Craft Wondrous Item, righteous might or transformation; Price 13,000 gp; Weight 1 lb. If he is no monk, does the wearer get his wis-bonus to AC or only the +1AC bonus from the monk's table or both? I believe, he gets only the +1 AC bonus and no additional wis-bonus. Thanks for your help! |

Some people still swear up and down that it does give Wis to AC, though. |
| Pittbull10-06-06, 10:10 AM | Next question? Carnage an advanced hippogriff has strength 24 and it's is Encumbrance: 0-600 (light), 601-1200 (medium), 1201-1800 (heavy) Carnage's Max Weight carried: 544.65 lbs [mount gear 80 lbs, Dronnar 320 lbs, Dronnar's gear 144.65 lbs] it loses 3 strength by an ray of enfeeblement. Is it still able to fly and how do I calculate a quadroped flying with two wings? EDIT: AH found it! It's still x3! With str 18 it has light -300lbs then 21 should be 153x3=459lbs and 24 should be 233lbsx3=699lbs so DSugui was wrong too Can a medium encumbered creature fly? EDIT2: Fly A creature with a fly speed can move through the air at the indicated speed if carrying no more than a light load. (Note that medium armor does not necessarily constitute a medium load.) All fly speeds include a parenthetical note indicating maneuverability, as follows: |
| TheMagister10-06-06, 10:13 AM | I believe that is what WotC customer support have said in the past when people from the Character Optimization board have inquired (no Wis to AC). Some people still swear up and down that it does give Wis to AC, though. I'm one of those "some people". A 5th level monk's AC is determined by totalling his Dex + Wis + AC Bonus. If you take away the Wis to AC, you don't have "the AC of a 5th level monk". TM |

| hogarth10-06-06, 10:26 AM | I'm one of those "some people". A 5th level monk's AC is determined by totalling his Dex + Wis + AC Bonus. If you take away the Wis to AC, you don't have "the AC of a 5th level monk". TM I think the wording is perfectly ambiguous. You can interpret it either as applying to only the column labeled "AC bonus" or to the whole "AC Bonus (Ex)" ability. By the way, you'll notice that I haven't linked to a WotC Customer Service ruling; that's 'cause I couldn't find one. I may well be remembering something that doesn't exist; certainly Living Greyhawk has ruled that you don't get the Wis to AC, but that has nothing to do with the price of tea in Gladius. The best place for this to get resolved would be in the "Ask an Elder" thread, I think. |

Is it still able to fly and how do I calculate a quadroped flying with two wings? I don't think the "two wings vs. four legs" causes the calculation to change any. Calculate Carnage's new strength (21) and add in all the appropriate multiplyers for being large and a quadraped. If the strength drop causes the mount's load to exceed its light load limit, then it no longer qualifies as being able to fly and falls. Note: I could swear there used to be something in there about the mount having a certain number of rounds to land safely, but I can't for the life of me find it anymore. Places I looked: MM glossary, PHB Glossary and Adventuring section, DMG Moving in Three Dimensions and Glossary. TM |

Thanks for your help! In my games I don't allow the Wis bonus to AC as I don't think it was meant to be that power. (If you calculate the GP cost with Item creation costs.) But I can see how it can get argued about as the AC level bonus and the AC Wis bonus is all under one ability listing in the Monk class features. ~Justin |

| Maraxus10-06-06, 10:51 AM | Why is Noko not entangling and sniping? General Tactics: (...) Untill I find him, allways act as if he could see invisibility. But my ability to hide is almost as good as invisibility, too. I can stay hidden as long as there is cover within 6ft. This makes the outer obstacles very useful. Patrol around the inner cross untill I know where he is. End the movement in the outwards showing corner (like 15,15). Once I see him: If he is at the ground entangle, else start to snipe. (...) What I'm doing: Noko waits for him since she knows where he is and she doesn't want to leave her hide in the outer obstacle. What I was expecting to do Noko, lurks from the next cover. Entangles and hides (Hide 19+23(range) vs spot 7). (Or does using a spell-like always reveal your hiding place? Even then, the pitlord could simply go over to the next point.) She then starts to snipe. Even at -20 and even considering he could see invisibility, this is quite save. Did I really write so confusing? About the Monk's Belt Belt, Monk’s This simple rope belt, when wrapped around a character’s waist, confers great ability in unarmed combat. The wearer’s AC and unarmed damage is treated as a monk of five levels higher. If donned by a character with the Stunning Fist feat, the belt lets her make one additional stunning attack per day. | Pittbull10-06-06, 11:12 AM | Entangle: Dronnar starts hovering and is therefor immune against entangle. Later he is flying. Then he came closer ( he has seen her, flying from her starting position to the outer obstacle) so I decided, not to snipe but to dispel first. Confusion? No, but it went differently as you expected. Monk's belt: I am aware of the bolded part, we all are. I hope Hogarth can retrieve the quote, else we need to make an Elder-decision. BTW, it didn't affect the fight. |
| Maraxus10-06-06, 11:37 AM | Ahh, you thought "only snipe, if I entangled him before". Well, that wasn't my intention, but I see how you could missunderstand this. I try to be clearer the next time. Well, my UMD-roll was lucky (*checks* yes, it was close) and I'm happy. I will bring the belt-question to the Elders thread. But independant from that, Tactics for Durin (with Kon vs. Carandol & Zax Kar) are finally out, too. |

Thanks for your help! Pittbull, You're right. The item gives the +1 AC bonus for being a 5th level monk as drawn from the table "Table: The Monk". The belt does not give the monk class feature of adding wisdom to your AC like Dex. Also look at the price of the item. 13000gp is basicially the bonus for +1 unamed bonus on AC, and the feat Improved Unarmed Strike and increased uses of the stunning attack and improved unarmed strike damage for monks and non monks. It's already a rather powerfull item without the wis bonus to AC. |

Monk PHB 40 Under the AC Bonus description: "... the monk adds her Wisdom bonus (if any) to her AC." So, if the monk's belt does indeed "function just like the monk's AC bonus." Of course, part of that wealth was won last week, and is sitting unused in her stash back at TAO. And if she loses this week but wins next week thats a pile of gold coming in at the ECL 7 multiplier rather than the ECL 8 one, technically putting her behind. Still, if she could win this week and next week, she should be quite rich. Rich enough to start crafting some wands when she gets that as a bonus feat for her 5th wizard level :) . Zevox |

Actually, I just missed that outright. Small little sentence at the end of the larger buffs, you know? Though I think actually that it worked to your advantage in this case - 5 hp would not help you the way things went, and starting your attacks a round quicker is probably a more-than-even trade off for it. And yeah, I was kind of surprised by the request to use constrict to grab Kitty, but I figured you had a reason (I've never really seen Chokers in action myself). Its actually quite surprising that out of all those attacks Mugwump never got a natural 20. Zevox |

Anything to add NiQil? Couple of things... In round 4, there is some damage to Kitty that never got recorded. I am curious as to the reasoning behind healing vs attacking with armor spikes in the grapple. Granted, I did not cover being grappled in my tactics at all, but I thought the tone of my tactics would indicate attacks. Since that is entirely improv on your part, however, I can't really gripe too much...just curious as to the thought process there. Especially since I get two attacks in a grapple, vs one healing attempt. I don't think this is very unreasonable, especially given the tactical allowance Kitty was given to draw additional animals in total opposition to her stated tactics. But ultimately that is your call, as I said. |
| Zevox10-06-06, 10:53 PM | Couple of things... In round 4, there is some damage to Kitty that never got recorded. Er, where? Granted, I did not cover being grappled in my tactics at all, but I thought the tone of my tactics would indicate attacks. I don't think this is very unreasonable, especially given the tactical allowance Kitty was given to draw additional animals in total opposition to her stated tactics. But ultimately that is your call, as I said. Mostly because of what your typical healing requests are like (heal at 1/2 or less hp to above that), and also after Hassan retreat (inevitable just a couple of rounds later) Mugwump was going to help with killing the Bear (was pretty bad luck that he managed to miss as many attacks as he did). Granted in round 8 you had about half hp from the start due to the lucky grapple checks in the previous round, so you could have tried then, but I figured getting to above half was preferable. In any event, attacking in that round wouldn't change the fight most likely - Death would need to hit both times (or crit on one) and roll a total of 10 damage or more to kill the bear earlier than it was in the current run, and the loss of the 7 hp he healed that round would cause him to be killed one round earlier anyway. Actually, attacking instead of healing almost certainly wouldn't change it no matter what simply because he'd die sooner - it may actually help Kitty, depending on how much sooner the Bear were to get out of the grapple and how much damage it suffered from Death (determines whether it gets to attack Mugwump before being done in by it). Zevox My bad on round 4...I misread what was happening. Having a lion and Kitty in the same paragraph confuzzled me. As to the grappling, as I said...it was your call to make. However, I think this fight was decided when you went completely opposite Kitty's stated tactics and allowed additional animals to be pulled when her tactics clearly stated the condition for when that should happen. However, the same consideration was not given with regard to the grab vs grapple issue you mentioned, since in your eyes grapple was clearly superior to grab. It appears, in my eyes, that the improv seemed to all swing one way. But I digress. Any changes you make (if any) are up to you...I'll leave it be. |

In any event, giving Kitty the chance to pull more animals didn't completely foil your tactics - quite the contrary, it was what you expected all along - but having the Choker grapple instead of constrict would have completely foiled his (since he'd be totally unable to flee if badly wounded, or to pull out more animals when one died, and so on). If anything, it was the particular animal that was pulled (the Bear is the toughest thing in that bag, save perhaps for a Rhino if you're on the plains), and the poor rolls for the Choker's attacks on the Bear, that cost you the match. Had Kitty pulled anything else out of that bag, Death would have lasted much longer, which would have given you considerably better odds - given Kitty's hp in the end there I'd actually have been surprised if you didn't win had that happened. I must say, because of those reasons, I do stand behind that particular point on the improvisation in that match. Zevox |
| Traevanon10-06-06, 11:45 PM | @Hogarth A couple of things (you probably knew this was coming): 1) A well constructed fight with good descriptions and maps. 2) Did you get bored at round 19? I dont care so much about improvisation as other pitlords, but you are going to have problems in the future if you clearly violate tactics in a manner that appears designed to end a match more quickly. Grakkar has superior speed, so there was no way for me to know that he wouldnt just back up and continue to shoot. My AC drops from 26 to 22when I'm just moving. This is a significant decrease that I was not willing to chance against 100 arrows. 3) If I was going to venture out from my hole I should have gotten out another scroll and buffed up at least with Favor and possibly SoF. The idea is one hit one kill, so the extra point of damage from Favor is critical, as would be the extra point from caltrops if they hit. 4) Khabil doesnt have a long range weapon other than a sling because he is getting something new at level 5 and a bow at level 6. You could have fired back with the sling taking the -2 or -4, that would have been the better option compared to running out and breaking cover. Anyhow, going tactics vs tactics I'm willing to admit defeat. I banked on Grakkar wanting to test his 30 Str on me by closing to melee and he didnt. Congratulations Papapeperoni. @ all: Can you collect caltrops after the match like thrown and dropped weapons? |

We have a precedent that standing around and getting shot at constitutes "meaningful interaction." So Khabil probably should have stayed put. Not that that would have helped him in any way. @Trae: Yes. |

I'm not saying that I would know what hogarth was thinking, but it seems to me that the reason there was Khabil breaking the 10 round rule. I think that his actions can be considered as delaying the fight and at least I didn't find any clear tactic for the situation that occurred other than the readying... |

I am fully aware of the imposed delay penalty..I didn't think it would take that long for Destra to move out...but after moving for a round or two, why did you not revert back to my tactics? Why did they suddenly just go out the window? But that isn't the thing I am most concerned with. In round 17, you state that the only things I can do would draw AoO. Did you forget about a full attack on the animals with armor spikes? That's the reason they are there. That would eliminate the AoO in that round. Same thing in rounds 18, 19 and 20. Or at the very least, healing, which is covered as a part of my general tactics. Either of those options would be available, and neither of them would provoke AoO. Since this situation was not one covered by my tactics, the improv is up to you...but there were definitely options there that would not provoke AoO. I would very much appreciate it if you could rework this fight, taking into account the issues above. I am not disputing the delay penalty, but I am very much disputing the disregard for my hide and seek tactic after the penalty was issued. Edit: After further review, don't worry about making any changes. It's really not worth the effort, especially with this character... |

I dont care so much about improvisation as other pitlords, but you are going to have problems in the future if you clearly violate tactics in a manner that appears designed to end a match more quickly. You had done nothing for ten rounds other than get shot at by arrows. I considered that delaying, but even if it's not (as MWB claims), I'm not sure how you can win a fight that way. I guess I could have rolled 80 more ranged attacks while you just sat there, but I'm not sure how that is to your advantage; you had run out of healing, so all he needed was a couple more natural 20s. 3) If I was going to venture out from my hole I should have gotten out another scroll and buffed up at least with Favor and possibly SoF. The idea is one hit one kill, so the extra point of damage from Favor is critical, as would be the extra point from caltrops if they hit. Your tactics didn't say anything about renewing buffs. I don't really like putting tactics into a gladiator's mouth; if you want to do something specific, be specific in your tactics. ]4) Khabil doesnt have a long range weapon other than a sling because he is getting something new at level 5 and a bow at level 6. You could have fired back with the sling taking the -2 or -4, that would have been the better option compared to running out and breaking cover. Your tactics seemed to centre around hitting him with a poisoned longspear, so I went with that. I don't have any problem with redoing the fight with Khabil sitting there with his longspear while Grakkar fires his bow, but that seems a bit pointless. By the way, how long does it take for a smokestick to dissipate in non-windy conditions? |
| Zevox10-07-06, 08:57 AM | Destra vs. War (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=10291450&postcount=78) is up. Holy cow, I didn't realize it was so late. Sleeping now. Only issue I'd have with it is the lack of using Entangle (you noticed that you forgot about the Pearl used to restore it, but skipped it anyway?). Otherwise, looks fine to me, thanks for the run :) . Though something to note - I don't think anybody would mind if, for the sake of your own sanity, you had War move towards Destra rather than away from her when the delay penalty hit even though he had no idea which way she was. Would have been to both of our advantages anyway. @ NiQil - You have nobody to blame but yourself for Destra's overabundance of spells - that crit War got on her two weeks ago was why she didn't use any in her second fight, after all ;) . | Traevanon10-07-06, 09:28 AM | I usually write very specific tactics because I dont like to make a Pitlord improvise or edit, however I didnt have a response for what happens if I am forced to move out after 10 rounds of doing nothing because it wasnt supposed to happen. He's only hitting on 20s, I have lots of healing and I'm on fight #3 and as far as I know, a smokestick doesnt dissipate in regular conditions. Against an attacker with superior speed who is instistant on using ranged combat, sitting and getting shot is not delaying, its the only thing you can do. It's the opponent who is making it impossible for me to attack, not my tactics. Besides, it doesnt change the situation any if I move toward him and he moves away the same distance, it just creates more work for you tracking the movement and a lower AC for me being unable to go prone. I have never encountered a ranged attacker with superior speed that was willing to allow a slower opponent to choose melee just by approaching. The problem is that if I did survive the 100 arrows, I might have just won because my only hit took him to 1hp and you would have had to roll the caltrops for a possible 1hp damage. Its like a 17+ to hit with them though, and I'm not sure how shifting the rolls around using the standard editing conventions would affected this (I'm a little fuzzy on those) so its possible that the point is moot. Khabil is on a weak level right now. It would have taken alot of luck to win just looking at tactics vs tactics. Khabil hasnt had any luck since he gave up that domain for the Artifice domain. I would have liked to have seen whether his luck changed in this fight though. So in conclusion, there is no need to edit. I'll try to write better tactics next time. |
| hogarth10-07-06, 11:16 AM | He's only hitting on 20s, I have lots of healing and I'm on fight #3 and as far as I know, a smokestick doesnt dissipate in regular conditions. You didn't have lots of healing -- you had two Hold Person spells (which you used up as Cure Moderate Wounds) and a Shield of Faith spell (which you cast). I guess I missed your orisons which would have provided 4 more hp of healing. Do you have a wand I'm not seeing? Remember that domain spells can't be converted to cure spells: A good cleric (or a neutral cleric of a good deity) can channel stored spell energy into healing spells that the cleric did not prepare ahead of time. The cleric can "lose" any prepared spell that is not a domain spell in order to cast any cure spell of the same spell level or lower (a cure spell is any spell with "cure" in its name). I admit that he could've just kept distance indefinitely (although you could've cast Longstrider to even things up a bit), so just standing there didn't really count as delaying; it was more a case of "what else can I do?". Sorry for the misunderstanding. Like I said, I have no problem changing the fight to keep you in the same place; it would at least cost him some more arrows. By the way, you have an alchemy lab and a poisonmaking lab listed under Equipment, but according to Gladius rules they use the same tool: Note that you need a different tool for each skill; for example, you need to buy seperate tools for Craft Weaponsmithing and Craft Armorsmithing! Exceptions to this rule are the thieves tools (apply to Disable device and Open lock) and the alchemist's lab (alchemy and poisonmaking). You just saved 500 gp! ;) |
| Zelck10-07-06, 01:07 PM | @Zevox: Right, I only noticed that you really did have Entangle when I was doing the "Items Used" at the end. By then, it was a bit late to change it ;). I am fully aware of the imposed delay penalty..I didn't think it would take that long for Destra to move out...but after moving for a round or two, why did you not revert back to my tactics? Why did they suddenly just go out the window? I don't consider seeking someone out for a round or two "meaningful interaction" when you've already had 9 rounds of delay. In round 17, you state that the only things I can do would draw AoO. Did you forget about a full attack on the animals with armor spikes? That's the reason they are there. That would eliminate the AoO in that round. Same thing in rounds 18, 19 and 20. Why yes I did... :( Or at the very least, healing, which is covered as a part of my general tactics. Either of those options would be available, and neither of them would provoke AoO. Since this situation was not one covered by my tactics, the improv is up to you...but there were definitely options there that would not provoke AoO. I thought between the lack of it in your specific tactics and the kind of hopeless tone of your tactics that you didn't expect to win this one and thus wanted to conserve the wands. Edit: After further review, don't worry about making any changes. It's really not worth the effort, especially with this character... I'll do it if you like. |

| McJarvis10-07-06, 10:10 PM | @Usernamer: Battle between R'ymnd and The Chosen One looks good, but there are a few rules you seem unaware of.(Don't worry- the way the dice lie it won't change the outcome or require a re-do or anything) 1) Energy Missile does not require a ranged touch attack. The good news is, we can still use the rolls for #2 2) Manifesting while mounted requires a concentration check if the horse double moves or runs. For all the energy missiles I rolled high enough on the attack rolls that were not necessary to actually hit. Double moves are a concentration check DC of 10+(power level), and for galloping(running) it is 15+power level. With my +7 con modifier, I rolled higher than 16 for all those attacks...so Chosen passed them all. 3) By The Chosen One's tactics, Ray should never have been able to fire off his energy ray.(unless he fired it at the druid's horse?) He was out of range of The Chosen One(guarunteed) This is important only because it is power points R'ymnd didn't have to lose. (1pp- but might as well give R'ymnd everything he can get for the rest of his 3FC. The reason for #3 is The Chosen's tactics require that he be 90 ft away at the end of every turn of his. R'ymnds range for energy ray is 25ft+5/2levels. His max ML is 5 while wild surged: 35 ft range energy ray. his speed is 30- 45 with skate. 45+35= 80 ft, ten feet short of hitting Chosen. Thus he wouldn't be able to move, then manifest energy ray at Chosen.(I'm pretty sure Chosen, with his speed on horseback, could have been 90 ft away from R'ymnd at the end of any given turn, no matter what our positions were). That is all. Like I said, nothing too important...just stuff you should be aware of rules-wise.(specifically, Energy Missile not requiring an attack roll & concentration checks being required for manifesting/casting on horseback while the horse is moving) Plus R'ymnd should have an extra power point. |

Unless I'm mistaken, when you attack two grappling characters, you have a 50/50 chance of hitting either one of them. I cannot find a rule for it, except for the foot note at the bottom of the second table here (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/combatModifiers.html). Other things; you didn't have the animal companion attack, which was in tactics. The note in round 1 about not being able to spot because of range; I don't think there is any range problems with spot - perhaps there was an unlisted hide roll and that was flavor. Shield spell is missing from end of round summeries. Didn't look over the numbers. Followed tactics as far as I can tell, just missed an obscure rule. |

The note in round 1 about not being able to spot because of range; I don't think there is any range problems with spot - perhaps there was an unlisted hide roll and that was flavor. Pestilence's spot modifier was +5-20 (for range) vs. the snake and +7-20 vs. the elf. The snake and elf have hide modifiers of +12 and +9 respectively so it was mathematically impossible for Pestilence to have spotted them. Shield spell is missing from end of round summeries. Added. |

For future reference: you have Aerryl using Rapid Shot while Predator moves, but you're forbidden from making a full attack if your mount moves more than 5'. EDIT: I didn't realise the rules were different for mounted ranged attacks. You learn something new every day... At any rate, it's well-known that dragons are deliberately underrated as far as CR goes, so it's not surprising that one would be tough to beat. |
| Traevanon10-08-06, 09:16 AM | You can use ranged weapons while your mount is taking a double move, but at a –4 penalty on the attack roll. You can use ranged weapons while your mount is running (quadruple speed), at a –8 penalty. In either case, you make the attack roll when your mount has completed half its movement. You can make a full attack with a ranged weapon while your mount is moving. Likewise, you can take move actions normally :globe: |

They also go in order from highest spell level to lowest, which would be as below. There is also the issue that a targeted dispel still needs a target, so I probably wouldn't dispel him till after he gets the first swing in and he becomes visible. Daylight (CL 4) vs 14 rolled (still fails) Invis (CL 3) Energy adapti (ML3) Expansion (ML 3) Animal afin (ML 3) Pro evil (CL 1) Force screen (CL 4) Those are from my part. Granted Those are some gawful attack rolls, but If I'm not taking 3d6+12 each round it would be an improvement. |
| Pittbull10-08-06, 02:23 PM | Can you make a target dispel against a creature with total concealment (invisible), pin-pointing gives you just the position? If yes, there need to be more rolls against each buff. In round 12: Morathor's reflex save was only 1d20+2, shouldn't it be 1d20+(1base+2dex)+2racial[spell-like-effect/dwarf]. Expansion gives you only -2 on dex not -4. Then he should made the save. The SR check is also missing. But all in all these mistakes won't change the result, with the given rolls. Thanks a lot for running the fight, Abyssal. |

I don't believe you can cast a targeted spell unless you can see or touch the target: Target or Targets Some spells have a target or targets. You cast these spells on creatures or objects, as defined by the spell itself. You must be able to see or touch the target, and you must specifically choose that target. Touchsight would probably do the trick, too. |

| NiQil10-08-06, 10:31 PM | I remember the ruling as well....and I still disagree with it. From an RP standpoint, having common knowledge command words means that all a thief would need to do is steal the master list and he can use anything he can get his hands on. Or that anyone walking by Wand-Mart who says the command word just caused every wand nearby that is being held to trigger. Makes no sense. I still maintain that command words are distinct to their equipment, and that is the way it should be played. It makes UMD and UPD that much more useful. I have never seen common knowledge command words in any TT game I have ever come in contact with. The idea is just ludicrious to me. |

Command words are in place for a reason. DM's use it to allow treasure to come into play at certian times when the necessary legend lore spells can be cast. Otherwise every cool item you put in the mastermind's hands will be turned against him right away with a simple disarm check. Blech. |

Won't change the fight in question, since you would need to go by the current ruling, but would change going forward.Actually it was Pittbull who in the first place came up with this note when he had seen the tactics. That made perfect sense to me and I stand behind my ruling. There were two ways to get the command word, listen and knowledge checks which both were too difficult for Loddick to beat. (I have mentioned the listen check and the knowledge check comes from the SRD under command word items.) I might be wrong on the failed dispel check that targets Morathor. There are actually couple of things that I need some clarification: -Is pinpointing enough to target a spell or does concealment prevent targetting? At least some spells can be targetted allthough the caster doesn't see the target (rays, for example). In many occasions it is enough to have a line of effect. -The reason I have done only one check is that Morathor has spell resistance 14. So it is the manifester level check, not a dispel check, and it fails. Or doesn't dispel need to pass through SR first? It was after all a targetted dispel. The reflex save that Pittbull has adressed is a mistake from me. I forgot the dwarf bonus. My biggest concern is that DSugui hasn't commented the fight at all. He didn't have clear guides how to handle the summons and I have made them quite passive because he wanted them to give him cover. Once I get a clear answer to my worries I can edit the fight if there is the need. These are just my reasoning, so please comment! |
| MindWandererB10-09-06, 01:44 AM | I might be wrong on the failed dispel check that targets Morathor. It was after all a targetted dispel.Dispel Magic doesn't apply spell resistance. The only spells that require LOE and not LOS are ranged touch attacks and area attacks. Targeted spells always require sight (or the equivalent thereof). |
| Vathelokai10-09-06, 02:04 AM | I was thiiis close to taking down the dragon all by myself. If I hadn't had the useless ally who came with an adamanitine-armed ogre mage, I might have been able to do it. Dang it.Some pearl of power 1s to recall produce flame might have turned the fight. Something to think about. Those touch attacks are powerfull, even if most characters can resist energy by ecl9. @ Vath - Looking at Aerryl & The Chameleon's fight, a query: why was The Chameleon running behind statues to break LoS? She has Hide in Plain Sight, so theres no need for that, she can just rehide any time. Also, not that it matters, but shouldn't a Young Adult Black Dragon have only 152 hp, not 168? ZevoxI didn't realize that hide in plain sight worked that way, and didn't think to reread it before the fight. That could potentially change the fight. Problem is the dragon would have taken Chameleon far more seriously if she was sneak attacking every round, and most likely killed her first. I can make the changes if you wish, though they might be close to the deadline. Bonus hp is from the +2 Con amulet in her equipment. |
| DSugui10-09-06, 02:26 AM | I am having some RL problems that require my full attention at the moment, so I won't be able to run my fights this week. Also, I might need to take a break for a couple of weeks or more, but I will only know for sure tomorrow. I ask if anyone can take my fights, please PM me ASAP and I will forward the tactics. |
| Abyssal Stalker10-09-06, 02:30 AM | Just drop them here. I'm sure someone picks them up! |

I also see no reason why The Chameleon should surrender at that point. She can hide at any point and thus easily avoid beeing full attacked. |

Starting with round 12. *EDIT* Perhaps I'm missing something else. What do you mean she can hide at any point? Do you mean in the darkness area, or in general? And what of the water? Even if that's so, the Dragon has blindsense, and can full attack a square she's in; not the best odds, but not great for Chameleon either. |

If The Chameleon tumbles away from the dragon, which she can do every round, there will be no full-attack. And even if she cannot go far enough with tumble, moving away only draws a single additional attack while avoiding the Full-attack. |
| Vathelokai10-09-06, 04:11 AM | Tweak and Nark vs Farig Problems with this fight. - I count 44 damage to Farig, and he has 42 hp. - In round 13, Farig's arrow would have missed. Tweak has AC +2dex, +1dodge, and +4 cover (since she's on the roof) vs. his attack of 15. - rounds 5-8; the bear has 3 attacks per round but only uses one. |

But I haven't gotten any use out of it for a very, very long time, due to the Resist everyone packs. Maybe a rogue/druid, to steal it, but not her. |

Since the tactics are allready out: I can assure you, that Team Durin and Kon have straightforward tactics to such a point, that you will not easily find a 4 player fight that easy to manage. I'd do it myself if I could. ;) |
| Zevox10-09-06, 10:25 AM | Eh, so, with DSugui lacking the time, could someone pick up Nell's MQ to raid the EYE Townhall? Being a Guild op its kind of important. We had expected it would be run as a fight anyway, and if Huan isn't around I can toss a few quick lines of tactics tonight to anyone who can take it. Zevox |

Tweak has AC +2dex, +1dodge, and +4 cover (since she's on the roof) vs. his attack of 15. - rounds 5-8; the bear has 3 attacks per round but only uses one. Since UserNamer didn't use my mount for cover in a couple of notable places - I'm sure that this would offset the damage that Farig has listed. Also: @UserNamer - your abbreviated style makes reading the fight pretty difficult. For instance, I'd like to know how Nark has a 22 AC when I have tripped him? While I would like to see the end-round summaries and a more clear idea of where things are, I understand that it is late in the week to request such. For rewards, Farig should get 1500xp/1600gp. Her opponents should only receive a 8.33% bonus because Whirlwind is only 1/3 of the max CA that Farig can bring in. |

| TelinArtho10-09-06, 04:24 PM | Tessero Valis (TheMagister) vs Kyst Depthice (Highfire) is up. No dirt involved alas. I have one more fight to run - Mort versus some unsuspecting other person. I have already been given leave to put the fight up as a surrender, but I'm going to look over the tactics a little and see how much time I have. If no activity is posted on the CoCo roller in the next 2 hours, you can assume that it is a surrender though. EDIT: Mort Noir (McJarvis) vs Fnorri the Miser (False_Keraptis) is up as well. No dirt involved here either... |
| Hirumajoe10-09-06, 05:30 PM | Quick question: Do Druid animal companions start with a standardized set of tricks or anything? Montana wants to have his animal companion search, then attack with the special trip attack wolves have. Since he doesn't have any tricks listed on the sheet, are all these move actions at DC 25 for Monatana to push his companion? |

| McJarvis10-09-06, 05:52 PM | Man, those are some mean tactics against my snake. I don't think I"ve ever seen a hostage situation attempted in gladius before...I shouldn't have mentioned to him in PM that I didn't want my snake to die in the first fight of the cycle. :) @ My gladiators: Running all fights now. Sorry for the delay- but I got my hands on DDR: SuperNova this weekend and I've been MAJORLY distracted trying to unlock all the songs. Let me tell you, DDRing to video killed the radio star is amazing:) other news- May the Psychic Warrior Forest Gnomes be freed into gladius now. ;) |
| Highfire10-09-06, 06:02 PM | lol, stupid mistake. Totally missed the feat. >.< What's a heavily armored horseback fighter doing with Deflect Arows? lol. Question, now that my fight is over can I make 'corrections' to my character? Someone pointed out that my abilities were 32 point buy and not the CoCo 36. Also, I have a couple Magical Items that are a higher CL than my ECL, is this not illegal? Thanks ~Justin |
| TheMagister10-09-06, 06:03 PM | Tessero Valis (TheMagister) vs Kyst Depthice (Highfire) is up. No dirt involved alas. As I had hoped. I really didn't see any other avenue of attack from Kyst than melee, and that way was just a prolonged suicide. Sorry you had to break your teeth on such a hard fight, Highfire! (No sarcasm) TM |
| Erithmu10-09-06, 06:07 PM | @TM & Telin: Tessero doesn't qualify for deflect arrows, his dex is too low. (or improved Grapple for that matter) |

Or with Material components (since they need to be in hand?) |

| Erithmu10-09-06, 06:21 PM | Unrelated to any fights. It should be noted that we may see a State of Emergency next week. Currently listed for the Pitlord roster we have pitlords for 19 fights (20 if you count McJarvis' offer). This week we had 33 fights. (7 of which were MQ but that still only brings it down to 30 fights) For those of you who are new the basic rules are here about half way down. Please note that in our last State of Emergency there were no miniquests allowed, characters on quests counted as active, and there was much discussion about which characters a player wanted active. The Pitlord miniquest offers will only go to guild operations only. Miniquests for allies, joining guilds, and anything else will likely have to wait till the State of Emergency is over. There are two ways to make the State of Emergency painless. 1) Volunteer to Pitlord. State of Emergency lasts until we have a stable pitlord population. 2) Choose now which characters you want active if you have more than one. |

I'm in no hurry on leveling these chaps... |
| Highfire10-09-06, 06:26 PM | I'm still very new to this, and don't often tweak, so some edgey rules are foreign to me yet, but I think I could handle a Monster fight next week if it will help everyone. Unless you honestly want me to attempt to do a pvp where I'll most likely goof. I can do 1 or 2 a day, set me down for a solid 5 if absolutely needed, however, there will be a lot of edits and the fights may seem bare bones with no maps if I do too many. I would hate to see something I just started go down for a while. Even if it only goes down to minimum running. For my sanity I'd much rather either do Monster fights, or have my fights in a thread and the players post their actions. ~Justin Edit: The lower the ECL the better. But 'Hit the ground running' So put me with whatever I'll muddle through it. |
| Erithmu10-09-06, 06:42 PM | Sorry should have mentioned this earlier... There are a lack of monster fights as they involve one PC and one Pitlord. The reason for having pvp fights is that you have 2+PC's for each Pitlord which allows more PC's to play. I would recommend running just one fight. The idea behind the State of Emergency is that if everyone runs one fight, then everyone runs 2 characters, thus removing the need for the State of Emergency. Remember if you run a fight, you can run a second character. In order to sign up as a Pitlord (which will help you out running your own characters as well) you just PM Pitlords (http://boards1.wizards.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=245524) asking to run a fight. Most fights take about 4 hours max the first time you run a fight (interface and understanding issues) But if you start as soon as you get the tactics, you will find your life easy. Pitlording is an activity that will improve you in the CoCo. EVERY Pitlord makes mistakes, thus the reason for the FotW thread. You see things week in and week out, most people here are gentle, and if they aren't then you can tell them to calm down and reword their complaints constructively rather than in anger. The community will support you in this, and 95% of the time will side with the Pitlord in terms of an angry post. One of the reasons I am mentioning this on Monday is so that we don't see it on Wednesday. |
| McJarvis10-09-06, 06:51 PM | Oh yeah- As far as fights being difficult, I have asked that all fights assigned to me are ECL 4 or higher...so there are more ECL 3 fights for people just doing 1 fight than usual. :) |
| TelinArtho10-09-06, 06:58 PM | 3) Go do all of Telin's work for him so he can start Pitlording again. :-) Hey - I'm up for that. Pick one or more of the following: 1. Watch my wife and 2 kids while I am at work for 11 hours/day. My wife is currently injured from our recent car accident and will remain so for anywhere from 1 week to up to a year. She's pregnant too... 2. Work my job which is ~11 hours per day (factoring in 1 hour commute each way and 1/2 hour for lunch). It requires extensive knowledge of SQL Server, Oracle, HTML and JavaScript. I'd be collecting the pay - because I can't be without that :) 3. Take care of my pain-in-the-neck dog... I hate that thing. The above is all said in jest. Life is busy - but I wouldn't trade my family (even that *&$%*&^ dog) for anything. And well work is work. In all seriousness, I'll be trying to stick around as much as I can, but it will likely mean just a fight here and there and maybe one character active. As to the state of emergency - this happened the last time I left... I was hoping with more warning that it wouldn't have to happen again - but so much for my efforts on that front. If anyone ever needs to get in touch with me though - I will certainly be checking my PMs frequently (because otherwise it just fills up on me) and email is always an option (though less reliable since I often forget to check it...). |
| Zelck10-09-06, 07:04 PM | For this upcoming week only, I'm willing to pick up one more fight. I might be able to sustain this rate for more than a week, but it'll have to be week by week. @Highfire: I only came here recently, and I pretty much started PLing as soon as I did. I'm doing mostly OK with my fights, and haven't had any major issues. Right guys? Right? ...Guys...? Aaaarrrghh not the tomatoes! |

They take about 4-6 hours each and I've done dozens of them. I take pride in making sure my fights are correct and that no fight changing errors are in the battles. We need pitlords, but I suggest you take it slow. Make a fight template you like, or copy one. Let your own characters be in a few fights before you sign up to pitlord. That gives you an idea of what a good fight looks like. Then sign up to run one fight and crank it up slowly. It takes way more time if you need to rebuild a fight 3 times due to errors. That's agrivating to players and to you. Avoid that by preping yourself by being a player in a few fights and taking on a limited load of fights. If you get your fights done early, you can always take on a one of the spares that are not done tuesday. Cheers, Sauro |

I agree -- just jump right in. One of the reasons I am mentioning this on Monday is so that we don't see it on Wednesday. Okay I understand the lack of Monster fights. But I don't care about the extra characters, Kyst is my only for a while. My interests are more into Role-Playing and as sch most of my activities are in the Real Adventure boards. I was not worried about my character more worried that others will suffer from this and complaints will come ina nd just lag the game down. I have a surprisingly fast learning curve I just need to reread the rules. It is all there, and only technical issues will be a problem, which like you said this thread will solve. I tend to be naturally story given, I visualize things a lot. So maps and story explainations of round by rounds will be a given, if I have time otherwise the maps may not be possible, the map program is a great thing. I stand by my 5 fight offer, and more if needed. ECL 3s preferable but higher if needed. I can do a total of probably ten a week. :embarrass I am not being unrealistic of time, just, I aint the bread winner in my relationship, I'm the House Husband, so I have time lol. ~Justin |

The affected creature must have its hands free to climb in this manner. Can someone who is spider climbing cast spells with Somatic components? Or with Material components (since they need to be in hand?) Actually, this is unclear. (It happens to be one I asked Customer Service once, and they had no answer.) You certainly have to have your hands free to move, but nothing specifically says you can't just stick yourself to the wall with less than 4 limbs, cast your spell, then move on. @PapaPeperoni: Do you have any intention of finishing Besthirah's miniquest? There's not much time left before it's considered late. |
| Ravashack10-09-06, 10:08 PM | Perius vs Eraca and barbarian friend You need to have Perius attempting to regaining focus when using Psionic Shot on crossbow attacks, as stated at the very beginning of the tactics. Please add those in. Yes it lowers the rate of fire and may not seem to make a difference to you, but I did specifically ask to refocus after Psionic Shot is used, which you have not done. I did completely overlook the Bag though, so that part is my bad. |
| Macbrea10-09-06, 10:35 PM | Gah.. my brain is going to mush. So, delay opinoin. Character 1 is stalking toward someone for 10 rounds but cannot hear them to know they are there. Character 2 is sitting in one place yelling at top of lungs for 10 rounds trying to get other character to hear them. So far |
| Hirumajoe10-09-06, 10:36 PM | Wisp (c00lz3) vs. Montana (UserNamer) : Hirumajoe [Cavern] is up now. |
| Hirumajoe10-09-06, 10:37 PM | Gah! I didn't realize that he wouldn't be able to hear me. Apply the delay penalty and move Valen. I thought that would be fastest way to get him to find me since I didn't know where he was starting. On average, I figured it'll be faster than me wandering around like a chicken with my head cut off. |
| Macbrea10-09-06, 10:40 PM | Nah.. I am allowed to get creative. In this case both players are trying to meaningfully interact with each other and my terrian is interfering. Actually in this case my birds. I think I will shut them up for a round. Otherwise this pretty much comes down to me skipping to round 30. |
| Hirumajoe10-09-06, 10:49 PM | I can see it now, Valen makes a Wild Empathy check on all the birds in the forest. Valen to birds: "Please, pretty please, SHUT UP!" ;) |
| MindWandererB10-09-06, 11:19 PM | Looks reasonable to me, but I probably would have forced Valen to move. He's the one not seeking out his opponent. Consider what you would have done if both were sneaking around, or both were sitting and yelling? Wouldn't you make the sitters get up and move? |
| Zevox10-09-06, 11:23 PM | @ Telin/MWB - Looks good to me. I didn't think Kervan would actually try using his wand of MM, knowing I had a CLW wand and that 1d8+1 beats 1d4+1 most of the time, which is why the disarm order was just for curing. Didn't think of a ready to evade the two save vs hold though... guess its a good thing those images worked (though I'd disagree with them vanishing after being targetted by Hold Person, but that of course doesn't matter). And I'm fine with the expenditures in the fight. Annalina has that Dorje for exactly this type of reason, and shes had that wand since ECL 3 and only used 1 charge of it before. Not exactly a major loss to use up what she probably should have long since used now, particularly on a Guild fight :) . Now, to hope Annalina either gets good rolls on the hide/MS checks wednesday or she somehow manages to win that new competition... dang but that has the worst timing. @ Sauro/Ravashack - That one looks fine too. Really, all it takes is that bad poison save for it to all be over, whatever else Perius does (no way he could take Eraca down before then, with orders to go for Kimahri first and no power that can down her quickly). Eraca's minmum damage on a scythe CDG is 20 (8d4+12), which is a DC 30 minimum save-or-die fortitude save, and even with a natural 20 on that the hp damage probably kills him. Re: SoE - Yeah, looks like thats happening next week. Dang but I wish I could take another fight... but with school as it is theres just no way I'd get it done. Guess I should probably pick two characters to activate, other than my full-activity Druid... Zevox |
| Vathelokai10-09-06, 11:27 PM | In reference to Hide in plain sight abilityAction: Usually none. Normally, you make a Hide check as part of movement, so it doesn’t take a separate action. However, hiding immediately after a ranged attack (see Sniping, above) is a move action.Does this mean as part of a move action or as part of any movement, such as a 5 ft. step. Also, Izumi and Ankala's tactics recieved. WIll run in the morning. |
| Macbrea10-09-06, 11:31 PM | True but in this case I decided to just basicly help them find each other without really changing the feel of the match so far. Yes, i could have valen start moving half rate down the path because the horse is hindered by the underbrush. But, better to allow them a greater chance of hearing each other's general location. At least for a round. |
| Macbrea10-09-06, 11:33 PM | In reference to Hide in plain sight abilityDoes this mean as part of a move action or as part of any movement, such as a 5 ft. step. A 5ft step is still considered movement. Hence the reason, you cannot move after taking a 5ft step. |
| MindWandererB10-09-06, 11:37 PM | @ Telin/MWB - Looks good to me. I didn't think Kervan would actually try using his wand of MM, knowing I had a CLW wand and that 1d8+1 beats 1d4+1 most of the time, which is why the disarm order was just for curing. Didn't think of a ready to evade the two save vs hold though... guess its a good thing those images worked (though I'd disagree with them vanishing after being targetted by Hold Person, but that of course doesn't matter)Yeah... I am apparently both blind and stupid this week. And unlucky. That's one dumb loss, one dragon/ogre mage slaughter, and one quest which will apparently be held over. Oh, and a critical fumble on a True Strike Sneak Attack Scorching Ray in the campaign, against what appears to be the nastiest bad guy so far. And it's all bad news on the guild front, too. :surrender |
| SauroGrenom10-09-06, 11:49 PM | You need to have Perius attempting to regaining focus when using Psionic Shot on crossbow attacks, as stated at the very beginning of the tactics. Please add those in. Yes it lowers the rate of fire and may not seem to make a difference to you, but I did specifically ask to refocus after Psionic Shot is used, which you have not done. I did completely overlook the Bag though, so that part is my bad. Whatever... I put in your psionic focus and the resulting slower rate of fire. You got gored by a Rhino instead. Yea that edit had no chance of changing the fight at all, the fort save was the end. |
| Ravashack10-10-06, 12:00 AM | Whatever... I put in your psionic focus and the resulting slower rate of fire. You got gored by a Rhino instead. Yea that edit had no chance of changing the fight at all, the fort save was the end. Thank you. It does mean that you'll have to remove the bolts used from the rewards section as well since he didn't have to dig into the normal supply. Edit: And just to make clear--I don't mind losing. But it has severely gotten on my nerves how in a sizeable amount of my previous fights the pitlord running it completely ignores my request to regain focus in the tactics because he/she either demonstrates or implies that he/she feels it is pointless, which is not ok. I'm normally pretty patient, but this is a very sore subject for me, and I have to start being militant about it at some point. I apologize if the manner I did it in rubbed you the wrong way Sauro. |
| Zelck10-10-06, 01:44 AM | @MacBrea: Are we allowed to throw a Dispel Psionics into the fight as a delay penalty? I thought it was simply to reveal their position or just get them to move. |

That would be frowned on. Technically, the pitlord can do anything they want, but the subtlest actions are best. |
| c00lz310-10-06, 02:26 AM | I have a few qestions regarding my fight. Fight (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=10291958) I noticed that I have no dex to my attacks. I am sure that dex applys to my ray, ranged touch attacks it would be +7 [+1bab, +2size + 4dex] correct? I did the math and I would have never missed a shot (excep round 6), I belive this would change the fight. also shouldn't compression give me a +2 to ac [+1size +1dex] ? In round 5 should I do +2 damage becaues of Prescience, Offensive? # side note do you have to go to the black market for posion? Thanks! |
| McJarvis10-10-06, 02:32 AM | Looks like I'm gonna be pseudo-late for mine. They'll be up in 10-12 hours. Had some RL work to deal with last minute...my own fault for delaying until Monday/Tuesday to do the fights. They will NOT be pushed over to next week..this I promise:) |
| MindWandererB10-10-06, 02:33 AM | I noticed that I have no dex to my attacks. I am sure that it applys to my ray, ranged attacks I did the math and I would have never missed a shot, I belive this would change alot of the fightActually, you do. 1d20+4 in all cases; that's +1 BAB, +3 Dex, except for the time you get another +2 for being invisible (and hit). In round 5 should I do +2 damage becaues of Prescience, Offensive? It does say "damage rolls," not "weapon damage rolls." So, yes. But it doesn't matter.# side note do you have to go to the black market for posion? No, why would you?compression give me a +2 to ac [+1size +1dex] correct?Yes. For one round. Check the durations of your items before you buy them. Also, you've paid too little for your one round of compression--it's a personal range power and thus costs double (100 gp). (It couldn't be a crawling tattoo for the same reason--personal range.) |
| McJarvis10-10-06, 02:34 AM | matter. No, why would you? Because Poison is, by the rules, illegal everywhere. But it isn't in Gladius for some reason, so no. |

(It couldn't be a crawling tattoo for the same reason--personal range.) ok I see how silly of me. my attack would be +5 then [+1bab +1size +3dex] I get a hit in and that would still change things. Do you have to exced the ac I only though you had to meet it. Its important cause the match hinged on my getting at least 2 shots. Thanks I see how the compression confused me. edit: you guys might want something on posion. I couldnt find anything in the rules and if there is would you kindly point it our for me. |
| Hirumajoe10-10-06, 08:15 AM | Actually, I had included the +1 from size and +1 from Dex in that shot that hit and forgot about the +2 from being invisible and the denial of dex to Montana. Thanks for looking it over and checking it errors. Hirumajoe |
| hogarth10-10-06, 08:27 AM | edit: you guys might want something on posion. I couldnt find anything in the rules and if there is would you kindly point it our for me. The rules (costs, etc.) for poison are in the DMG, or you could look here: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/specialAbilities.htm#poison |
| Macbrea10-10-06, 08:27 AM | @MacBrea: Are we allowed to throw a Dispel Psionics into the fight as a delay penalty? I thought it was simply to reveal their position or just get them to move. First things first, there was never a rule set on how powerful a delay penalty can be. Delay penalty is applied by the pitlord to increase the chances that a fight will occur. They are allow to be anything with would increase the change of fight and reduce the reason for running away. Most pitlords would not allow a character to run away for the duration of another characters buffs. Then allow the character to buff completely up and come back to the fight. My other choice is to make the horse lame. As that is the method by which the combat is being delayed. Pointing out an individual that can move through the forest at rate 60ft vs a foot walker at speed 40ft. Doesn't get the combat moving. My other option is to hide the monk and wait out the buffs on the other side as a tactic and ignore the delay penaties all together. This is occompished by moving the monk about in the woods with a crossbow and attempting to snipe you. I can then do each round of combat in 10 round delays for the next hour. |
| Zevox10-10-06, 08:30 AM | edit: you guys might want something on posion. I couldnt find anything in the rules and if there is would you kindly point it our for me. Our rules on items are simply so simple nothing special is needed for poison: if its in the core books or SRD, you can buy it any time (save for the renaissance/modern/futuristic weapons from the DMG, but given that those are alternate options and only the renaissance have gp values anyway that should be fairly obvious). If its not, it costs credits, and depending on what it is may not be allowed (in the case of totally made-up items). Poison being an illegal item RP-wise doesn't mean it costs credits here, just that RP-wise you have to be more careful acquiring it. Zevox |
| Hirumajoe10-10-06, 08:32 AM | @Macbrea: Sorry about those tactics. I had originally imagined the fight going something like. Round 1, the monk hears me. 3 or 4 rounds later he shows up, he gets his first shot off. I run for the delay penalty. Then come back. As it is, if Valen was already at the delay penalty by the time the monk arrived, you probably would have been within rights just to have him engage. Anyways thank you for running the fight, and my apologies for such a long fight. If you don't have time to finish, feel free to have Valen surrender. @People in general, for my own edification: Is it in general ok to just say "Valen searches in the direction most convient for the Pitlord"? Since we're adding a skill package which specifically lets you know where your opponent starts relative to yourself? If so then I'll start doing that. Because in general I'm inclinded to include a direction, which has a 50/50 chance of making the time to contact shrink by 50% or increase it by 100% if I choose the wrong direction. That yields an average increase in contact time of 25% over just standing still and waiting for them to come to you. Unless both sets of people just wait. Hrmm... Ok so maybe standing still isn't the best idea in that case. I guess I'm still getting a feel for the delay penalty. Is there any nice indepth description of what is and is not a delay? Would taking rapid fire pot shots while on Horseback that require back to back natural 20s be considered meaningful interaction? Or how about single shots at an opponent who has deflect arrows? Since you fire at the middle of the horse's move, its easy enough to have cover at the beginning and end and have a clear shot in the middle. I hadn't included those in my tactics because I didn't want extra rolls and complex movement to slow things down. Or is waiting out a 10 round buff breaking the spirit of the rules even if your actions are within the letter of the law? Thanks ahead of time for your insights, Hirumajoe |
| Macbrea10-10-06, 08:46 AM | I have time to finish the fight. As it is only tuesday. It will be done before I go to bed tonight. The tactic you used is somewhat viable but running away to only wait out spells and buff is almost always a no-no. Meaningful interact can be pretty much anything. In this particular case you have had 1 round of meaningful interaction in 30 rounds. And that is only becaue you where the target. Your actually reaction to an attack was to run away. The delay penalty must be escalating and not just pointing out where someone is. Otherwise at higher levels combats could look as follows: Lord Frost vs Harvester! 1) Lord Frost burrows into the earth. 2) Harvester searches for him being pointed to one spot in the ground every 10 rounds. 3) Lord Frost sleeps for 2 hours. Every 4 hours. 4) 10 weeks later 5) Harvester forgot to bring food and water to the fight.. dies of starvation This doesn't promote a fight. It promotes the person with the ability to become unattackable winning. In truth, Frost has no chance of beating Harvester. But, the tactic of waiting in an unaccessable area is only valid for 9 rounds. |
| Zevox10-10-06, 08:47 AM | Is it in general ok to just say "Valen searches in the direction most convient for the Pitlord"? Since we're adding a skill package which specifically lets you know where your opponent starts relative to yourself? If so then I'll start doing that. Probably not, but on larger maps like the Forest and City most Pitlords will have him do that anyway. I guess I'm still getting a feel for the delay penalty. Is there any nice indepth description of what is and is not a delay? Not really. Theres precedents set by past pitlords, but nothing written down and concrete. Its a judgement call on the Pitlord's part, plain and simple. The former probably would be, the latter not so much since you have no chance to affecting anything more with that manuever than with just playing keep away (unless you count wasting arrows). Or is waiting out a 10 round buff breaking the spirit of the rules even if your actions are within the letter of the law? Actually, its pretty much one of the reasons this rule exists, if I'm not mistaken. (The other being FFAs where players will sometimes just sit around waiting for thier opponents to kill each other...) Anyway, in this case, I'd like to point out that Valen has no way of knowing Indrithia has her Force Screen active. To know such would require noticing a visible effect of it (which there are none since she suppressed the display) and a Psicraft check (DC 21). If it weren't for your contingency including the first time we see each other within 40' or so, you couldn't do this at all to begin with. Zevox |
| Macbrea10-10-06, 09:18 AM | Actually, firing an arrow at a person with deflect arrow might be considered meaningful interaction. The expendature of resources on an attack against the opponent is perfectly fine. On this map, this would put the firer in range to be engaged in melee. It endangers the firer and therefore brings the combat forward. CoCo in general has argued the delay penaty many times. Precedence is set by each pitlord in their method of running. What you haven't had the opportunity to see is my pitlord style. I am willing alot of the time to let things slide. But, I will apply harsher penalties as a combat goes on. I also improvise when tactics become broken. This is because players generally would if they had the ability to control the character. Some pitlords follow the flavor of the combat style and others follow the strict tactics as written with no variation. I am not in favor of the second method because it results in stupid scenes. Such as the horseman not expecting the monk to snipe him to death. Some pitlords would just have the horseman wait out all attacks until the monk comes out to fight. I think this is playing the character stupidly. |
| Abyssal Stalker10-10-06, 09:40 AM | I think that the delay penalty should stay under the pitlords control and decision. It is always a unique case and we should generally be able to trust the pitlord's judgement. The pitlord can see where the fight is going and why someone is doing something. If it smells like cheese, it probably is delaying. If one has no valid options, then it probably isn't. It is allowed to have "creative tactics", but somewhere there needs to be a line drawn. And there the pitlord must step forward and do something. Creating rules for those situations is impossible and only hampers things. |
| Highfire10-10-06, 09:44 AM | @TM & Telin: Tessero doesn't qualify for deflect arrows, his dex is too low. (or improved Grapple for that matter) Telin: Should the fight be rerun now? I honestly don't think I would have won anyway as a straight Fighter is the bane of what I was trying to accomplish. If you are too busy, don't bother rerunning it. I'm sure TM wouldn't argue ;) Everyone: I am sorry to ask this again but I feel it is important and no one answered me. It has been pointe dout to me that my character is a 32 point buy and it should have been a 36 point buy. Also CL versus ECl... Did the rule say you could not have a magical item with a CL of higher than your ECL? And finally, when can I make these changes? I just finished my 1st fight of the cycle. I just don't want to auto lose something. ~Justin |
| Pittbull10-10-06, 10:04 AM | @Justin: Of course you can fix it now, after the fight. Just inform your next oponent and pitlord what you've done. CL+2>CL, then you need to spend extra credits and get it approved. @All: Delaying! It is always the pitlords decission and there is no room for discussion, if he doens't want to change his decission. Sorry, this is a point we should not change. Please, don't forget, it is a favor, if some-one's spending his time on running a fight. |
| hogarth10-10-06, 10:06 AM | Also CL versus ECl... Did the rule say you could not have a magical item with a CL of higher than your ECL? That only applies for items with charges (like a wand, potion, or a Quaal's Feather Token). Your Cloak of Resistance is fine (it doesn't have charges). Your Brooch of Shielding has charges (effectively), but it also has a CL of 1. And finally, when can I make these changes? I just finished my 1st fight of the cycle. I just don't want to auto lose something. I believe that fixing a rules violation (like the 32/36 point buy mistake) can be done any time after your most recent fight has concluded, but before the deadline for your next pairing. |
| Hirumajoe10-10-06, 10:09 AM | Thanks for the info and opinions. Since it seems to be the spirit of the law to not run away from short term buffs (i.e. 10 rounds and less), I'll refrain from such tactics in the future. Hopefully the more tactics I do, the better I'll get at writing them. @Pitbull: I was in no way asking him to re-run the fight. I even stated to have Valen surrender if he doesn't have enough time to run the fight. What I'm simply trying to figure out is what I should and should not do in the future for my tactics. This is only my 4th fight and I'm still learning the ups and downs. |

Hopefully the more tactics I do, the better I'll get at writing them. It's clear that a certain amount of delaying is allowed, as long as your gladiator is at least making a token effort at engaging the enemy. For instance, consider this fight between Kilpquabjeg and Kervan (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=10000587). I had Kilp fire a crossbow bolt at Kervan every three rounds while crouching in a bog, even though I was sure she would only hit on a 20, in order to run out the clock on Kervan's shield spell. Annoying? Sure. Would every pitlord allow it? Maybe not. But I felt it was close enough to the spirit of the rules to be allowed. |

Hirumajoe I am comfused you just said +1 for dex its +3 in round 7 you rolled a 7 so that would be a hit vs ac 12 right? my attack mod is +5 [+1bab +1size +3dex] I just dont know how I have +4 for my ranged touch. I dont see it could you show me? |
| Hirumajoe10-10-06, 12:31 PM | Hmm... Looking it over today, you're right. When I wrote that previous post I was refering to Round five when you should have gotten +2 to from being invisible and an additional +1 for the size and an additional +1 for the extra small dex. However, what I seemed to have forgotten throughout the entire fight is you get +1 to hit for your small size. So your touch attack should in fact be +1 BAB + 3 Dex + 1 Size... Which does make that attack hit. Since the minimum damage on that is 3d6+5 Montana should have gone down and it should be a win for Wisp. It has been fixed and results corrected. Thanks for pointing it out. |

A new player as myself would not know that posion is allowed and not take hold of a nice and deadly attack. If that is not the case then forget it I just dont know all the details. Than again maby its just me. @Hirumajoe I was so confused, thanks! @Everyone Thanks for all the clarification! I am sure you all will be helping me again soon enough;) |

| waywreth10-10-06, 01:36 PM | @UserNamer - your abbreviated style makes reading the fight pretty difficult. UserNamer - Thanks for running the fight. As Telin noted, your abbreviated style makes following the fight difficult. Please in the future what bonuses/penalties are applied to the various rolls. End round summaries would also help a great deal. Please also adjust the rewards as Telin noted. On another note - crystal shard is a ranged touch power, meaning Nark has a +4 to hit vs. an AC of 14. I didn't notice any misses that should've been hits, but something to keep in mind for other psions. |

I can't find the instructions on FFA/Inter-league rewards. |
| Macbrea10-10-06, 02:27 PM | It mostly is the reason I run my fights the way I do. Where I post 10 rounds then go on working on the fight. So, that my fighters can object before I get 75 rounds into the fight about round 4. |
| Pittbull10-10-06, 02:36 PM | Sorry it took me so long, but the edit is now done (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=10276598&postcount=69). I probably messed the rewards, so please correct me if (when) I'm wrong. I can't find the instructions on FFA/Inter-league rewards. All vs All Fights: Also called FFA fights, this kind of fight has no specific targets but everyone can attack everyone. Such fights involve either 3 or 4 PCs of equal level. All Characters must come from the same league but other than that, there is no guarantee that you won't end up in a FFA fight. Pitlords roll starting boxes for each PC individually, and no PC may end up in the same box as another PC. Rewards are based on the time of defeat: 1st gets Winner Rewards, plus 1 loser reward for every opponent 2nd gains Loser Rewards, plus 1 loser reward for every opponent -1. 3rd gains Loser Rewards, plus 1 loser reward for every opponent -2. 4th gains Loser Rewards only. (If only 3 persons involved, delete the '3rd' line.) Everybody has two oponents: Morathor 2400+800+800=4000XP /(1:1,41 ratio) =5640gp Loddick 800+800=1600/(1:1,41 ratio) = 2256pg Daisy 800/ 1133gp I hope, this is right. |
| Zevox10-10-06, 02:42 PM | Everybody has two oponents: Morathor 2400+800+800=4000XP /(1:1,41 ratio) =5640gp Loddick 800+800=1600/(1:1,41 ratio) = 2256pg Daisy 800/ 1133gp I hope, this is right. Close - the ratio isn't used for those fights (just inter-league), you simply add the rewards as the formula says. Only net result is in gold - Morathor gets (3,400 + 1,133 + 1,133) = 5,666 gp and Loddick gets (1,133 + 1,133) = 2,266 gp instead (yeah, I know, all of +26 gp for Morathor and + 10 gp for Loddick, but its there). | Pittbull10-10-06, 02:42 PM | This might be too strong of a statement. Anyone remember the 50x50 forcecube that someone dropped on his gladiators because of the tower shield of one and the unwillingness to close of the other? That one ended up being re-run. Don't remember this one, but as there is still the possbility to communicate with each other and if both gladiators do nothing against such a dilemma, I think the force-cube is a valid solution too. Pitlording should be fun in first case and not a dumb duty for others. Please, don't get me wrong, I propose communication first. |
| MindWandererB10-10-06, 02:43 PM | Everybody has two oponents: Morathor 2400+800+800=4000XP /(1:1,41 ratio) =5640gp Loddick 800+800=1600/(1:1,41 ratio) = 2256pg Daisy 800/ 1133gp I hope, this is right. Not quite, there are allies involved. Daisy has an 8.333% penalty; the others have half that (4.167%) as a bonus. So: Morathor 4166 XP, 5902 gp Loddick 1666 XP, 2630 gp Daisy 734 XP, 1039 gp @Zevox: The ratio should work in all cases. It isn't necessary at equal ECLs, because it produces the same results (except for rounding error, which is what happened here). Since we're dealing in large numbers, perhaps we should extend the ratios out to three or four digits? |
| TheMagister10-10-06, 03:17 PM | Telin: Should the fight be rerun now? I honestly don't think I would have won anyway as a straight Fighter is the bane of what I was trying to accomplish. If you are too busy, don't bother rerunning it. I'm sure TM wouldn't argue ;) ~Justin TM would agree with whatever Telin decided. However, he does have an opinion. :D I don't think it needs a rerun. Erithmu turned me in to the Prison, and I moved 2 pts from Con into Dex. Problem solved, and Tessero lost 3 hp (which aren't a factor in this fight), gained an extra ranged attack bonus, a +1 to his reflex save, and the knowledge that if he enlarges he becomes a target for ranged attacks (darned -2 dex penalty!). It was a simple oversight, and one that seven people missed in the weeks previous. I'm really glad you caught it, actually; but it was an easily fixable mistake. Kinda like your 32/36 point buy. Tessero's actually a little MORE survivable now that I've moved those points over. Next level I can put the 4th level ability score adjustment back into Con and he'll have the same scores as before, but with a higher Dex. I'm almost tempted to put it into Dex instead of Con so that Tessero can deflect arrows while enlarged! Anyhow, that's my opinion. Just chiming in. TM |
| McJarvis10-10-06, 03:17 PM | Gundamir vs Treetall is here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=10309777&postcount=87) There are a few minor errors, but nothing that will affect the outcome of the match.(wrong map in wrong round, etc) Those were some lucky rolls on that wolverine. I'll do rewards tonight after I've run my other fight. |
| hogarth10-10-06, 03:23 PM | Gundamir vs Treetall is here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=10309777&postcount=87) There are a few minor errors, but nothing that will affect the outcome of the match.(wrong map in wrong round, etc) Those were some lucky rolls on that wolverine. I'll do rewards tonight after I've run my other fight. For future reference: Treetall's movement is unaffected by underbrush because of his Woodland Stride class ability. I should have made that more clear in my tactics. That's one of the reasons why druids rock on the Forest map! :D |
| TelinArtho10-10-06, 03:24 PM | I wouldn't have had time to fix it even if I decided it needed to be altered. Since TM posted his alterations and intent to keep Deflect Arrows - that is sufficient to me. Had this been seen ahead of time and tactics been available to be altered - that would be a different matter. /d |
| Highfire10-10-06, 03:28 PM | I didn't want it rerun.... I was asking if it 'had' to be rerun. But since TM kept deflect arrows, that answers that. Well not fought battle! lol ~Justin |

That's one of the reasons why druids rock on the Forest map! :D oh! Geez...ok, that's good to note for the future :) I was wondering why Gund was saying you'd be able to outmanuver him like mad. |
| Zelck10-10-06, 03:39 PM | @McJarvis: Apologies for my tactics. Although I guess you did deserve it for playing Mort Noir :P. Hmm... now I have a sinking feeling karma's going to bite me real hard. |
| McJarvis10-10-06, 04:24 PM | And now I've run out of time again. I need to get ready for a D&D campaign that is being run tonight. I'll be back at my computer around 11 EST(currently 4:30 EST) & I've posted the fight info(haven't started it yet.) If someone wants to run it before then that's fine- but I'll run it when I get back tonight. Again, terribly sorry for doing this late. DDR Supernova totally threw me off my regular schedule. |
| Vathelokai10-10-06, 04:49 PM | @MWB and lonewolf: still working on updating the dragon fight. Will be done tomorrow @TelinArtho and Macbrea: 3/4 done with Anakala vs Izumi - they have reached the melee portion, so I think it shall be quick. Expect it in the morning. @Usernamer: There are a number of problems with the Tweak and Nark vs Farig fight. I have sent you a PM but you havn't been on in days. I would like to see the errors corrected, if at all possible. Please? Pretty Please? @Telin and Waywreth: Is the Tweak/Nark/Farig fight worth holding over? The ride for cover, 3 hits per round from the bear, and miscalculated hp most easily can tilt the balance of the fight. |
| TelinArtho10-10-06, 05:00 PM | I don't particularly care if the fight get's a second week of looking, but only if it is going to be a significant update from what it is now. I think the fact that Farig's AC will only be higher with the ride for cover and that Nark's AC should have been lower for being tripped - I can't imagine it would take longer for Farig to take you guys down. Since I'm taking a rest - I wanted to have all of my characters current so that I could pick them up later with more ease. If you do want the holdover badly, I suppose I'm fine with it - I just want to make sure that thematic rolls and such are kept in place. |
| Erithmu10-10-06, 06:11 PM | @Abyssal: can you add Loddicks free activity it is 232 gp and is listed on his char sheet in the set up. |

| Macbrea10-10-06, 07:51 PM | On wrap-up for valen vs indrithia fight now. |
| Zevox10-10-06, 08:04 PM | On wrap-up for valen vs indrithia fight now. Well, first let me say it overall looks pretty damn good, and thanks for running it! Then to note, the ally adjustment should only be 12.5%, not 25%. This an ECL 4 with a CR 1 ally, not an ECL 3. And Indrithia also used two potions of CLW and an oil of magic weapon. Anyway, there would be some concerns on my end if Indrithia hadn't won - namely that she was supposed to use two alchemist's fires on him, then a single attack using Psionic Weapon and Stunning Fist (that would've missed anyway though) before starting flurrying. Since she won anyway it doesn't matter, but worth pointing out. Again, thanks for the run! Zevox |
| Hirumajoe10-10-06, 08:24 PM | On wrap-up for valen vs indrithia fight now. I'm happy with how you ran it. Thanks for the run. Next time my tactics should be more direct and hopefully take less time to run. Only corrections are the 350 xp/ 350gp for Valen and the 1350 xp/ 1350 gp as the fight rewards, as indicated by Zevox. |
| Etiquette_Gnome10-10-06, 10:59 PM | Anything going on to cause the fight for Kon (NedTheDestroyer) & Durin (Maraxus) vs. Carandol (Etiquette_Gnome) & Zax Kar (TelinArtho) to not occur? |
| Erithmu10-10-06, 11:03 PM | Anything going on to cause the fight for Kon (NedTheDestroyer) & Durin (Maraxus) vs. Carandol (Etiquette_Gnome) & Zax Kar (TelinArtho) to not occur? Pitlord (Dsugui I think) and Real Life had a fight. I think Real Life won out. |
| Ravashack10-10-06, 11:29 PM | Don't remember this one, but as there is still the possbility to communicate with each other and if both gladiators do nothing against such a dilemma, I think the force-cube is a valid solution too. It was rerun because it totally invalidated the one of the contestant's strategy (it's a lot harder to do ranged never being allowed more than 50 ft away compared to being 100+ feet away) and didn't equally penalize the Tower Shield guy.. |
| NiQil10-11-06, 12:03 AM | It was rerun because it totally invalidated the one of the contestant's strategy (it's a lot harder to do ranged never being allowed more than 50 ft away compared to being 100+ feet away) and didn't equally penalize the Tower Shield guy.. This was actually my character...it was run by Warclone (if anyone remembers him), and was a monk archer that I had vs nightbanegod's (remember him?) First Horseman. He had employed a "ready to take cover behind a tower shield vs ranged attacks" tactic (which was later deemed illegal) vs my character because he had no way to engage my character in melee and his character did not possess a ranged weapon. Every ten rounds of me shooting arrows, Warclone put us in a shrinking force cage that forced me to go to melee....this was later deemed invalid, and the fight was rerun. |
| Abyssal Stalker10-11-06, 01:01 AM | Close - the ratio isn't used for those fights (just inter-league), you simply add the rewards as the formula says. Zevox And then there should also be added the bonus/penalty from Daisy's CR2 seagul non-class ally. Is it halved between Morathor and Loddick or do they both get the full bonus? EDIT: MWB allready clarified this... |
| Zevox10-11-06, 01:09 AM | And then there should also be added the bonus/penalty from Daisy's CR2 seagul non-class ally. Is it halved between Morathor and Loddick or do they both get the full bonus? FFAs distribute bonuses evenly amongst the opponents of the ally-user. So in a 3 person fight each opponent will get half of the typical bonus while the ally user gets the normal penalty, yes. Zevox |

| Vathelokai10-11-06, 11:06 AM | @MWB and lonewolf: I am incredibly sorry, but I cannot finish the rerun of Chameleon and Aerryl's fight before pairings. RL is too pressing this week. I leave it up to you wether you would like it held over or if you accept the loss. I feel really bad, especially having picked up another fight. Whatever your decision, please PM pitlords, since I won't be online again until tomorrow. *EDIT* Notify pitlords that I will take the rerun fight in addition to my regular 1/week fight (since I'm in the middle of the rerun already). |
| lonewolf10-11-06, 11:12 AM | I would actually prefere having it held over if thats ok with MWB. EDIT: @MWB:I am sending the PM to pitlords now since I will also not be online until too late this evening. If you badly dont want this fight to be held over send a PM to pitlords yourself to overrule me. |
| TelinArtho10-11-06, 11:41 AM | Not that it matters for the fight at all, but Vath - you calculated Ana's spell levels incorrectly. She gets 8 per fight. In week 1 she used 7 SLs. For a prebuff to wk 2, she recalled Doom and Blindness to give her (essentially) 4 more SLs (but only those two spells). To start week 2 then, she has 9SLs + Doom (1) + Blindness (3). During the fight she recalls Enlarge Person and Bull's Strength. This puts her at 9SLs + Doom + Blindness + Enlarge Person + Bull's Strength. Then she casts Bless (1), Doom, Sanctuary (1), Blindness, Ext. Spiritual Weapon (3), Invisibility Purge (3) for a total of 8 SLs + Doom + Blindness, leaving her with 1 SL + Enlarge Person + Bull's Strength. |
| Etiquette_Gnome10-11-06, 12:17 PM | Will Carandol have to sit out this week, since the fight he was in was never done and no word about it has been mentioned? |
| Zevox10-11-06, 12:19 PM | Will Carandol have to sit out this week, since the fight he was in was never done and no word about it has been mentioned? Basically, I suppose you could say that, since he can't enter a new fight. The fight will be held over and assigned to new pitlord. He'll still fight it, it'll just happen this week instead. Zevox |
| TelinArtho10-11-06, 12:19 PM | The fight is just held over for this upcoming week. Don't update your character and see what the new pitlord is and forward your tactics to him/her. |
| hogarth10-11-06, 12:32 PM | Will Carandol have to sit out this week, since the fight he was in was never done and no word about it has been mentioned? You can e-mail Cat and ask for a compensatory Full Activity if your fight is held over, I believe. Is there any crafting you want to do? |

Meh, whatever. |

I don't think Carandol has the capacity to actually be able to do anything that requires a Free Activity right now, so that's a shame (oh well). |
