| TelinArtho09-26-07, 12:02 PM | Fights of the Week: September 26th Please don't edit the sheet after the deadline or you will lose the match. Rules of Gladius All that you need to know is written in the Rules of Gladius. It could be useful also to give a look to the Court Decisions Part 1 and Part 2. Please do not make fake accounts or insult the Elders. Pairings GM MindwandererB will pair the active Characters of Gladius after the deadline. Link to pairings. Make sure that your character is not in prison. Pitlording You should use the CoCo Dice Roller (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com) for the fight. If you need it, there is a nice template ready to use that will help. You could find the Battle Map Tag Generator (http://www.hwx.it/coco) for dynamic Maps very useful. You must post a link to your fight in this thread when it is complete. If you need a quick and dirty tool to calculate distances between two points (in 2-D or 3-D), this tool used to suffice until it got taken down without giving us proper notification... the Nerve Another useful link is the Quick Access tables for XP and Gold. If a fight needs to be rerun, the Pitlord has to inform the Pitlords account. He cannot react to requests from Players because the other player and the pitlord might disagree. He has no time to read the fight and the discussion. Please keep that in mind. PMs from players with rerun requests won't have an impact. Recent News and Developments NiQil and Zevox have stepped down as Elders - they will be missed. TelinArtho (me) has taken up the reigns as Prisonlord - if there's anything that is missing from the court decisions - let me know. TelinArtho (me again) is also taking up the responsibility of seeing Mercs approved. Feel free to make your own recommendations based on the existing proposals. Please keep recommendations reasonable, based on the amount of work needed to see one activated. Comments & Concerns Post any comments or concerns for this weeks fights in this thread. Be kind and courteous to your fellow posters, and don't feed the pitlords. Please remember that they do hard work and consume a lot of time to let you play. Above all, have FUN! If you have questions or comments on any of the changes, please make your posts be heard in the Council of Gladius! |
| Rauul09-26-07, 01:24 PM | If an extra Pitlord is needed... i can pick up 1 fight.. |
| MindWandererB09-26-07, 02:50 PM | My apologies to all, but I'm not going to be able to do pairings today. I can't even finish updating the roster. For whoever picks it up, here are the PR changes as of last night. Asterisks mark characters who need to be advanced to the next level. | Eamane09-26-07, 02:54 PM | Well, the world won't end if pairings are a little late, so no worries MWB. That said; You alright? Doubtful it's anything we can help with, but on the off chance it is, you know where this sentence is going ;) EDIT: Oh and Shugho's power level needs to be reset to 1000 rather than put further in the hole; I decided to drop her level of wizard and restart her as a straight-up cleric. There should a pm in the pitlords account to that effect, but better safe than sorry. |
| TelinArtho09-26-07, 02:54 PM | Heh - yeah - I can try to get it done. @MWB - I'll do better this time on marking my paperwork... I promise. |
| Rauul09-26-07, 03:20 PM | Heh - yeah - I can try to get it done. @MWB - I'll do better this time on marking my paperwork... I promise. Yea... Telin has a bigger Trash can for his paperwork now... |
| Rauul09-26-07, 03:23 PM | hmm guess i need to read up on power rating... have to get that failure tag off Graashnak.. annoys me |
| lonewolf09-26-07, 04:03 PM | hmm guess i need to read up on power rating... have to get that failure tag off Graashnak.. annoys me He should have lost it by now. |
| Erithmu09-26-07, 04:19 PM | I'm hoping the Therador/Torel fight ends up in the sewer or this will be smashy. |
| lonewolf09-26-07, 04:21 PM | I'm hoping the Therador/Torel fight ends up in the sewer or this will be smashy. :evillaugh |
| whitebaron09-26-07, 04:25 PM | well, make it interleague vs longshot ;) |
| templer1009-26-07, 04:26 PM | Sure i dont mind - more lambs to the slaughter... on another note - Elrick will get a monster fight yet AGAIN - iam thinking iam breaking some kind of record here... btw - there's potentially a very deadly FFA in the ECL 11 if it were lorian vs krackol vs baelin - 3 chars with VERY high dmg output in their spesific situation Who can kill in 1 round by pure dmg - (medium/long range (lorian) close range (baelin) and melee range (krackol) |
| Erithmu09-26-07, 04:28 PM | Wont work ... priority goes to 1v1 fights (enough people in ECL 11 bracket) I'm well aware that Torel and Therador are going to fight ... just a matter of the 'terms of engagement' |
| Pitlords09-26-07, 04:33 PM | Alright Pairings are up. Give me some time to figure out the credits and all that. | Erithmu09-26-07, 04:36 PM | Well ... at least might pitlording fight can't get any worse ... no more pins on the map before init is rolled ... Edit: ohhh and no cover to have to deal with ... much nicer ... @T10: I'll try to get tactics out tomorrow sometime. I might ask for an extension to just after the Friday deadline. Lemme know if that is ok. |
| Pitlords09-26-07, 04:49 PM | Okay - I might have an error - but I swear it isn't me... @templer10, Vathelokai, whitebaron - I might have applied the Blackmarket/Training Hall credits a second time (MWB doing the first). Right now it is showing t10 in the negative - which makes me think he already did them - but I don't have a note indicating either way. If it is in error - it is easy to fix - but I'll leave that to MWB to confirm and correct. |
| whitebaron09-26-07, 04:56 PM | it is certainly applied double. ;) i had ~20 credits left yesterday. |
| TelinArtho09-26-07, 04:58 PM | Okay - I'll let him know in my PM to him. Usually he tells me that x is done - and unfortunately - I had no way of knowing in that case... BTW - if there are any errors in the pairings, I'll be around for another 1/2 hour or so and I might or might not be back later tonight (2+ hours from now). |

| TelinArtho09-26-07, 05:20 PM | For all of us in that fight (Bulgar vs Team of 3 vs other one...) - one of the members has a problem. Heavy armor negates Speed of Thought and Fast Movement. I need to know if you want to correct this for the fight or leave it as is (where the half-giant moves at 20). Let us all know. |
| lonewolf09-26-07, 05:38 PM | I cant speak 100% for mucki, but I would assume that he changes the armor for a breastplate for now and gets a mithril Fullplate later on. @Templer: tactics for Therador are away. I nearly missed that scroll of Freedom of movement... |
| Malither7609-26-07, 05:52 PM | Any chance Malik can get a monster fight or make EL 9 free for all, I updated him a few days ago just forgot to change title line. If not possible thats ok my fault but doesn't hurt to ask :) |
| Nurlithion09-26-07, 06:27 PM | My character Nemion seems not to be paired, but he is not in prison, so I imagine it was just an oversight. |
| lonewolf09-26-07, 06:31 PM | My character Nemion seems not to be paired, but he is not in prison, so I imagine it was just an oversight. Your ready line is not in the title but on the normal character sheet. Thats why it got missed. Dunno if Telin can still change it though. |
| Rauul09-26-07, 06:53 PM | @Callix Tactics for Gortek and Gol'ie O'rean sent... i fear for 2 quick fights.. |
| lonewolf09-26-07, 06:57 PM | oh crap I just noticed that I forgot to buy arrows for Falko. @Erithmu: Can I pick up some before this fight? This is another obvious oversight... I cant believe I missed that... :embarrass |
| lonewolf09-26-07, 06:58 PM | @Callix Tactics for Gortek and Gol'ie O'rean sent... i fear for 2 quick fights.. Any chance you can give me the monster Info for Darian? I would like to write tactics asap. |
| Rauul09-26-07, 07:03 PM | Darian Thorne's monster is Rolled.... 4 Grimlocks in the forest.. (finally a charater with knowledges) will get their tactics written up tomorrow.. |
| Callix09-26-07, 07:22 PM | @Sjiggie, Eamane: Tactics for Rennae and Petyr sent. First exposure to the Forest map, and I have to say it's annoyingly big, but has nice choke points. Petyr, as susal, has simple tactics: Shoot it. |
| lonewolf09-26-07, 07:32 PM | Darian Thorne's monster is Rolled.... 4 Grimlocks in the forest.. (finally a charater with knowledges) will get their tactics written up tomorrow.. Tactics are away. leaves only the team-FFA. |

| Erithmu09-26-07, 08:33 PM | @Templer: tactics for Therador are away. I nearly missed that scroll of Freedom of movement... Ahhh ... I'm curious as to what your going to do here ... Tactics drafted, but I'll send them along after I sleep on them. To be honest it has been so long since I have played Torel I almost forgot about his FoM scroll. |

I realized at the last minute that I couldn't do the pairings or finish updating the roster, but everything else was done. Telin, you shouldn't have awarded or deducted any credits aside from the ones stemming from the FotW. Oh, and fights should never involve more than four PCs. | Eluria09-27-07, 06:19 AM | The Needle vs Gol'ie O'rean is up. Battle of the Newcomers! Skil Packages vs Level Adjustment-Worthy Racial Abilities! At least it was quick... Thanks Callix, for the quick and timely run! I was actually really nervous, because even with level adjustments and what not, Gol'ie has better AC, nearly as many HP, nearly as good or better in-combat skill modifiers, and bow damage was better excepting psionic shot. With Needle's low concentration modifier, it may not even have come into play that much. Definately lucked out; sorry Rauul. Most minor change: Can you change profession income to 69 gp from 63 gp? thx |

So the 5-PC FFA can be changed if anyone involved (including 'Rith) would like. Okay - my bad then. What about the prison post though? That kind of counts as part of the FotW - so wouldn't it make sense to do that as part of the update? On the thing about more that 4 PC FFA - bear in mind that we "allow" 4-person parties... I doubt anyone would make one - but that would make things rather difficult for them. And on that note - a 3-person party could guarantee that they would never get a FFA then... |

Only matters when we switch off the responsibility. And even then not so much, as we should both be logging any changed we make (so duplicates will show up). The FotW credits only count the stuff mentioned in the note at the bottom of the credits post. Technically, the [P] tags can be done independently of the roster updates, too (I usually, but not always, do them at the same time). On a related note, I need to keep thinking about cutting down on my workload. I really have no time to do anything but updating the roster and doing other Pitlords stuff these days, and the result is that I'm slacking on my participation in important discussions. |

Then again, my gladiators got even luckier last week, but I had the whole Gwerdan-Tweak battle (23 rounds edited from round 2 into 8 rounds of grappling), so I don't really fancy Rennae's chances this week. I really have no time to do anything but updating the roster and doing other Pitlords stuff these days, and the result is that I'm slacking on my participation in important discussions. Maybe it is worth splitting out some more of your responsibilities to others. Prisonlords already tracks credits to a fine tooth-comb - it wouldn't be out of the question to add the other credit transaction to go through that account. Updating the prison is a pretty small task on its own anyway. Just from my test this week - I would definitely say that once the FotW thread is posted for a given week and the deadline passes - have someone manually go through the ECL11+ leagues to gather that information (or have someone find the missing Dracazar/Usurpator and update the crawler/pairingsmaker accordingly). A volunteer to run through this each week (whoever gets through it first! make it a race!) gets a half-credit or something. Just a thought of course - but I'm willing to do more if you just let me know what. |
| Eamane09-28-07, 12:27 PM | Meh - nevermind. Realized when reading further in your tactics that you just mixed up East/West: Gradak Tumblebelly (Sjiggie) vs Shugho-Zact (Eamane) is up. .... | whitebaron09-28-07, 03:19 PM | Tactics received: Send a PM back noting something, nothing that requires a response but just a future note. erithmu said, that you cannot take items from a dead opponent in a FFA. - its about using wands of a dead opponent. i only found this in the q&a+rulings Q: What are the rules for stealing and using your opponents expendables? A: Items of yours that are used by your opponent are restored to you after your fight in the same state they were in when they were taken from you. can anyone point out to me, where this is ruled/stated? |
| TelinArtho09-28-07, 04:21 PM | Hmm - not sure if this is stated anywhere. In the description of the defeated condition, it does say this: Defeat: For all battle types, a character is considered defeated when it reaches a state in which the character can in no possible way harm its opponent, that neither the character, nor allies, nor the passage of time, nor the cessation of concentration of the opponent, is capable of reversing. When defeated, any surviving allies of the defeated character are instantly removed from the battle. I do think the question has been asked before though... |
| whitebaron09-28-07, 04:45 PM | well, this ruling is a bit different , as it is worded for allies. its just there so you don't have to defeat the allies as well in order to win the battle - but it states nothing about what happens to your corpse. erithmu stated that the pc and all its equipment is removed instantly when it dies. if you have already an item of this particular pc (disarm, steal..) you'll most likely keep it until end of battle - the question is only, if you got a shot at picking up some of his equip for the remainder of the fight. |
| TelinArtho09-28-07, 04:51 PM | Well - like I said - I didn't find anything specific about the issue per se - but that was the closest I could find. @Sauro - still waiting on tactics for you about Kracknol. Monday is of course "do or die" time - so you have the weekend. I cannot always guarantee this - so you should be trying to submit your tactics on time. |

| Erithmu09-29-07, 03:15 PM | Bloodbath on the plains is up. or Bulgar vs WW vs Kilor I still have arrows to count ... lots of arrows.... Strange musings: What do the members of WW have in common with a well known American Restaurant chain? |

Strange musings: What do the members of WW have in common with a well known American Restaurant chain? Thanks for running. There are some rolls that are a little weird, but nothing that should change the result. The rewards are still way of though, but it seems youre still working on that. And no idea what you mean with the reference there. Care to enlighten us? :) |

Unless there's some wierd psionics stuff going on, when you share vigor, it protects against 55 total dmg and not 55 on each character. So 138 total dmg - 55 vigor = 83 divided by share pain is still ~40 to each of you. Am I missing something? |

So 138 total dmg - 55 vigor = 83 divided by share pain is still ~40 to each of you. Am I missing something? actually you are missing it - a shared spell or power affects The manifester and the psicrystal the same way - each gets the FULL effects of the vigor - it's the same as wizards and familiars, druids and animal companions etc - i think what you are remmbering is the old Ruling that spells that affect wizards if shared are divided in effectivness - and that was overturned ages ago. btw - what iam saying is written right into the "share powers" of the psicrystals - "At the owner’s option, he can have any power (but not any psi-like ability) he manifests on himself also affect his psicrystal." so i get vigor and the piscrystal gets vigor. The same is true btw for a druid who heals himself - his familiar gets teh same amount of healing. EDIT - go check the ROTG here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rg/20070206a) - it's about animal companions but it applies to familiars and psicrystals (and iam pretty sure there was once spesific to them - but finding stuff with wizards search engine is a pain in the a.. |
| Eamane09-29-07, 04:05 PM | Re: Vigor + Shared Pain Pretty much. This is a very old combo for Psions, though slightly underused here in CoCo. It effectively doubles you're Vigor HP and then adds another 50% of your base HP (since the psi will have half your hp). As long as it isn't dispelled, anyways. |
| Erithmu09-29-07, 04:45 PM | Rewards, uses, and so on added to the FFA here. |
| lonewolf09-29-07, 05:03 PM | Rewards, uses, and so on added to the FFA here. 1 big mistake in the rewards: You gave out rewards for a ECL5 fight, but this was ECL6. |

We have run into another occurance of the rules of the game contradicting themselves. I had only read the section on familiars. When you and your animal companion share a spell, you're effectively adding one free target (your animal companion) to the spell's effect. In simple cases, the spell just affects both of you in the same way. For example, when you share a cure light wounds spell with your animal companion, the spell provides healing equal to 1d8 + your caster level for both you and for your animal companion. A shared spider climb spell gives both you and your animal companion the power to climb sheer, smooth surfaces. A shared protection from energy spell provides a separate ablative shield against the chosen energy type to you and to your animal companion. When the familiar and the master share a spell, they function as one being where the spell's effects are concerned. For example, if the master chooses to share a teleport spell with his familiar, the familiar doesn't count toward the spell's creature limit. Likewise, if the master shares a water breathing spell with his familiar, the familiar shares the master's portion of the spell's duration and does not count as another creature touched. A shared mirror image spell creates duplicates of both the master and the familiar, and a successful hit on either the master's or the familiar's image eliminates one duplicate master and one duplicate familiar. A shared protection from energy spell shields both the master and the familiar, but all energy damage that either the familiar or the master suffers is deducted from the total amount of energy the spell can absorb. I'll check through the FAQ later, if no one beats me to it. |
| whitebaron09-29-07, 05:30 PM | diana vs dice-monster is up if you need to know one thing about the fight, it is this: diana d20: 16 rolls, 9.8 average ackbar d20: 12 rolls, 14.3 average d10: 2 rolls, 10 average @sjiggie: sorry. but the dice were totally against you. @erithmu: i think the bonus for each of us should be 7% (politcal career 21%/3) + 12.5% (ally from one opponent. see the tavern for closer examination on the subject :) |

True that it's old, but even back in 2005, Skip Williams contradicted himself at least once per article. That said, I'll look into in 4-5 hours. |

That said, I'll look into in 4-5 hours. i just checked, the faq contains nothing about the sharing of spells. as vigor bestows temporary hitpoints and is not something "preventing damage", its easy, as they will be awarded for each creature themselves (and fully). actually, i don't see where the rules contradict themselves here... the only restriction that applies is that vigor is not instantaneous, so the shared spell receivers needs to be within 5ft all the time. |

The contradiction is that sharing for animal companions assumes the companion is an extra target, while the sharing for familiars assumes the familiar is part of the caster. In most other things, animal companions and familiars share the same sets of rules to determine these things. |
| Salrantol09-29-07, 10:57 PM | Bah, the team should have stayed together so Salrantol could kill them all in 2 rounds and Kilor wouldn't have to deal with them. I guess I made the mistake of assuming I'd get 2 of them with each Energy Missile, so they'd all be at least seriously injured and Kilor wouldn't need to expend any effort to defeat them. Feh. |

| mucki09-30-07, 06:56 AM | Thanks for the run Erithmu, I greatly enjoyed reading it! You didn't manifest my force-screen (see under contingencies), but since the result is actually better than i expected anyway, and given the amount of work such a fight is I am fine with just keeping the PP and leaving it as it is. (It would mean that Kilor doesn't hit in round 13, but then again the lost time probably would mean that sal does more damage). |
| whitebaron09-30-07, 06:58 AM | the best thing in our fighting line - i just popped the number of feet out of thin air, i didn't even realise its only slightly further away then energy missiles reach. @tactics: well, they can be interpreted as two things, what mucki wrote and we did as a team. but his main intention is to defend us, which he can't do if he's not around us. @rewards: we should get full bonus for opponents allies, and split bonus for PC. so this is 7% political career, 12.5% ally bonus, makes 19.5 total bonus for 717 XP/GP each. for reference, here's what telin wrote about interleague: - it has to be the same with us in the FFA. so once our share for allies is done, its applied to everyones xp/gp, and not divided further. ECL5 character with 3 ECL1 allies (25% penalty) 2 ECL3 characters with 2 ECL1 allies (25% penalty each) ECL5 gets (25+25)/2 -25 = 0 Each ECL3 gets 25 -25 = 0 In other words - your example is wrong. |
| Salrantol09-30-07, 08:35 AM | Assuming that was a bit naive, wasnt it? :rolleyes:In retrospect, yes. But it was SOOOOooooo tempting to think (and admittedly would've made a fun statement if my cohort could have defeated your entire team) that the possibility of it not happening didn't bother to poke into my mind. Had it, I might have actually looked closer at the character sheets than saves and HP and we might have had an interesting fight...*sigh* |

| Eamane09-30-07, 01:27 PM | just one comment: ambush etc. NEVER work in team fights. no skill packages, neither for defender nor attacker. That hasn't been established by an elder yet; It's been commented that it 'should' work that way by many non-elders, however. Personally, I disagree, there is no reason why teams shouldn't have access to attack/defend packages. |
| lonewolf09-30-07, 01:33 PM | That hasn't been established by an elder yet; It's been commented that it 'should' work that way by many non-elders, however. Personally, I disagree, there is no reason why teams shouldn't have access to attack/defend packages. At the moment the rules forbid it. Fights with parties count as interleague fights and attack/defend skill packages dont work in interleague fights. If it SHOULD work or not, is another matter entirely, but there needs to be a rule change for that. |
| whitebaron09-30-07, 01:45 PM | btw: lonewolf beat me to it, but i'll post it anyway. That hasn't been established by an elder yet; It's been commented that it 'should' work that way by many non-elders, however. Personally, I disagree, there is no reason why teams shouldn't have access to attack/defend packages. sorry, but you are wrong. it's even in the rules, as currently written. the rules might be wrong, useless, or incomplete in regards to teams, but it states the following rules-snippets: You need at least 5 ranks in each skill mentioned, and you can only use it in a 1 vs 1 Battle of Gladius (ie no Multiplayer fights, quests, etc) Parties follow all rules for Inter-League fights, and are listed and fight in a higher league equal to their number of membership (so a party with three characters fights three leagues higher than each individual character has ECL). so - a party is inter-league, and not standard 1vs1 fight. no skill packages. sorry for being like a MTG player in checking the rules. whether it makes sense to handle it like that, is an entirely different question. -> i'd think you should have some averaging done around the skills of the party. so one player needs to have the 5 skill ranks, but the average of the group has to be higher than the opponents. maybe even propose an entirely different system. Traps are a problem here, as well as ambush/assassinate etc. it should definitely not be like "we got one package, so we both get the bonus from it" ... like 1 assassin, 1 barbarian, getting both free std action against cohort... omg, he'll be flanked + dead. |

Handle it like the other player being a cohort of the player with the package, imho. So no, just because you ambushed your opponent doesn't mean your slow body managed to get in on the action. Similarly, just because you can set traps doesn't mean your friend can; though your trap will still go off. The only problem I can see is going the other way; I.E: If the team's opponent has a skill package, how to determine if it's successful. And by 'problem' I mean 'it's not inherently logical that it should be one particular way instead of another'. |
| whitebaron09-30-07, 02:14 PM | well, how to defend against a skill package seems logical: if either beats it, both are saved. (but don't mix skills or use only the better skill-mod) but: traps, how would you do that? -have the enemy chose one opponent? thats quite unfair. -have the team chose one player? better, but you still get a higher lvl trap vs a single lower lvl player. -divide damage between the players? well, seems fair, but what about stunning, sleeping, etc. effects? ambush package: i'd go for a half here. you get the surprise round, but you can't choose starting boxes, since your ally would be to slow. assassinate: only one player gets the benefit. scout package: only one player gets the benefit. outmaneuver: as currently written, you and your "allies" would get the benefit. this, is not a good wording as it would include the teammembers as well. only one player should get the benefit. |
| whitebaron09-30-07, 05:55 PM | yorick vs overpowered monster is up. a phasm is about the worst you can get as monster fight at this ecl. it's absolutely overpowered with equipment. |
| Eamane09-30-07, 06:02 PM | yorick vs overpowered monster is up. a phasm is about the worst you can get as monster fight at this ecl. it's absolutely overpowered with equipment. We have a couple of those. For instance, Hound Archon is still on the ECL4 list... I'm going to make a formal suggestion to take that off -_- |
| hogarth09-30-07, 07:12 PM | yorick vs overpowered monster is up. One comment -- Alternate Form doesn't change your hp if you shift into a form with a different Con score. Also, a phasm is immune to poison in any form (since Alternate Form allows you to keep any Special Qualities you have). Not that it matters. |
| whitebaron09-30-07, 07:29 PM | yep, missed the bit about con score. actually i just used ordinary polymorph rules. actually, even the attack with the rock would have gone up one further. but: the phasm explicitly states, that it is only immune in its natural form. @erithmu: any news on the ffa-team-xp-issue? |

I guess that "natural form" comment is a throwback to the pre-errata version (when Alternate Form was based on Polymorph). At any rate, it would still have a +4 racial bonus on Fort saves (which you missed). |

Also the Phasm has a +20 knowledge :Nature Hit Dice: 14d8+56 (119 hp) he needed at least a 28 Knowledge score (2x the hd of the monster)... Yes monsters should follow the Polymorph rules just as players do... Meaning you would have to find a monster under 10hd that fall under the nature Catagory.. Nature= Animals, Fey, Giants, Monstrous humanoids, Plants, Vermin |

Nature= Animals, Fey, Giants, Monstrous humanoids, Plants, Vermin I believe that as far as the CoCo goes, Alternate Form doesn't have the same restrictions as Polymorph, Alter Self, et al. For instance, a druid doesn't need any Knowledge skill modifier in order to use Wild Shape (since it's based off of Alternate Form, not Polymorph). |
| Erithmu09-30-07, 07:57 PM | @WB: I see it ... you should know I work most Sundays and I still have a nice 2 days ... Need you to calm down. My comments are sometimes void in the matter so I just sit back and watch. I also have difficult talking to people if they are hyper and deeply involved in a situation; nothing against you, just the way I am wired. Things will get gone. My 0 late fight record is there for a reason. Edit: fixed |
| Vathelokai10-01-07, 12:50 AM | updates to Baelin vs Longshot have been added. |
| whitebaron10-01-07, 03:41 AM | sorry erithmu, didn't know that you were working - just thought you were kinda ignoring it - sorry again. i'll know for the future. @rauul: so e.g. a gold dragon can NEVER use alternate form, as he has no knowledges whatsoever? btw: a phasm has not knowledge nature, but knowledge (any one). i still don't think it's feasible to restrict monsters that way, since they were not designed with coco's houserules in mind (thnx eamane for that line of reasoning). else, the phasm would have full ranks in knowledge, wouldn't it? @hogarth: yes. makes the fort-save against drow poison the usual "don't roll a natural 1" |
| Macbrea10-01-07, 08:46 AM | Must put default tactics on all my characters.. If monster is Phasm or Hydra surrender. |

| whitebaron10-01-07, 01:12 PM | the dorje has a range of 30 ft. i seem to be out of luck on the rolls, but i should be able to close in sooner, maybe this can give me the edge i need to grapple my opponent. this is about rounds 12-14. he is either closer or can't shoot or has to expend his focus. |

| lonewolf10-01-07, 01:37 PM | edit done. It gave gwerdan another round of flurry attempts, but luck wasnt with him... |
| Eamane10-01-07, 01:52 PM | Re: Eamane vs Gwerdan Thanks for the run, after the revision nothing obviously wrong comes to mind. But I do have a question; In round 8, Gwerdan moves to negate my casting by putting himself outside of it's range (not that he he could possibly know what spell I was casting, but I'll concede that with only spell that takes 1 round or longer to cast it can be deduced); I thought we weren't allowed to do this anymore? Or is the prohibition only against readying an action to do it? If so, I'll have to remember this as a viable counter to 1 round casting time spells. |
| TelinArtho10-01-07, 01:56 PM | Its only a prohibition on readies. If the spell has a longer casting time (1 full round for instance) - and you have the ability - getting out of range is an option. Of course, without spellcraft - Sleep sounds the same to the untrained ear as Enlarge Person, Summon Monster, etc. |
| whitebaron10-01-07, 02:42 PM | sure, i couldn't know what spell was being cast - but my utterly useless wizard friend told me about the only spell he could cast that lasts longer than 1 action. :) gwerdan wouldn't know what you cast. anyway, my counter-tactics where quite sound, but i missed the option of you being in the swamp. draw bow, stay out of range, fire, would have been my option if asked. you would have needed to come out. ;) this summarizes the fight pretty well: Gwerdan d20: 11 rolls, 9.6 average Eamane d20: 11 rolls, 13.3 average had the rolls gone the other way, you'd be a pretty but dead piece of meat now. @enlarged: this piece of psionics is obviously broken as it gives a metamagic effect without effecting the price. |
| Macbrea10-01-07, 02:49 PM | sure, i couldn't know what spell was being cast - but my utterly useless wizard friend told me about the only spell he could cast that lasts longer than 1 action. :) If you wish to continue to use that knowledge then in game you would be required to cross class spend of spellcraft. It's a skill for a reason. :P If that wizard was standing in the arena he could make a roll in order to make suggestions for +2 favorable roll on your Spellcraft roll to identify the spell. Otherwise it appear to be somekind of funky magic thing that was cast at you. |
| hogarth10-01-07, 03:00 PM | @enlarged: this piece of psionics is obviously broken as it gives a metamagic effect without effecting the price. I don't know if I'd call it "broken". "Idiotic", sure. But I reserve the word "broken" for things like Dust of Sneezing and Choking or the spell Gate. |

Otherwise it appear to be somekind of funky magic thing that was cast at you. no: you obviously can know as a player, what he can and what he can't do, and use it in your tactics, as long as you don't need to identify his spells. you are not required to have knowledges to know that your opponent is faster, makes much damage or is a sniper. so why should you be possibly restricted in your tactics assuming it was not known to you what he can cast? the wizard was just a trying to be fun side note. @enlarge: well, anything that alters something to make it better has to cost something. it's like getting far shot for free when buying another composite longbow with a free modifier. |

Energy Substitution, Subdual Substitution both do not effect the spell level. As to Heighten spell - it is useful for driving up the saving throw on spells (probably not too useful with a fireball ironically enough - unless you didn't have a "better" 4th or 5th level spell to use in those slots already. |
| Rauul10-01-07, 05:26 PM | Umm... Energy Substitution, Subdual Substitution both do not effect the spell level. Both none core.. they were 3.0 Open content that were actually changed in 3.5 (sonic was removed) |
| whitebaron10-01-07, 05:28 PM | using enlarge power does cost your psionic focus means you need another feat to use it effectivly. if that would only be the ruling on it. dorjes seem to work without expending the focus, which makes it too good to be free. if you had to spend the focus, well, that would be ok with me. but like that, you get something really annoying for free. Other than Heighten Spell (and i have yet to figure out that feat.. cast a level 5 fireball and have it do 9d6 instead of 5d6?) heighten spell actually changes the spell's level, that's all its for. its only for saves, nothing else. Umm... Energy Substitution, Subdual Substitution both do not effect the spell level. and they don't really do anything changing to the spells. subdual substitution is just flavor, and energy substitution is something the psionic powers can do anytime, without even needing a feat. if you want to compare feats, compare the appropriate ones: enlarge spell = +1 spell level when prepared enlarge power = expand focus, can be applied anytime to get a lvl 1 wand to shoot double range = +3750 cost. to get a lvl 1 dorje to shoot double range = +0 cost. this is quite unfair towards the magic side of the equation. i could still say ok to this, if you had to expend the focus every time you enlarge the range. but like it is, it gives 3750 gold to each psionic being using such a wand. there is a reason why every offensive dorje is enlarged in the coco. |
| lonewolf10-01-07, 05:35 PM | actually subdual substitution is quite good in the arena, since you circumvent energy resistances& immunities. The thing is that noone actually uses enlarge spell because it is obviously completely underpowered. The feat enlarge power is IMHO very balanced. You have to spend a feat and your psionic focus to use it. Its just the combination with dorjes that makes it so good. |
| Eamane10-01-07, 06:24 PM | So psionics has better interactions between expendables and meta feats. Thats great. Meanwhile, magic has more kinds of expendables and everything else than psionics does. Plus, doubled range on dorje's isn't really all that annoying or unbalanced. Silly to get it for free? Yeah. But unbalanced? Not really. It makes psionic ray powers somewhat viable at low levels as a primary damage source. Meanwhile, Magic Missile & friends has always been viable as a low level damage source and doesn't need enlarging/etc. Also, alot of the low level metamagics are, sad to say, completely underpowered. Still & Silent are great examples of this. Even the high-end metamagics are uhm, not the best. Empower >>> Maximize, for instance. |

Actually in my home game... i don't let Dorjes be Enlarged (or any feat that requires the expense of the focus).. do to this line in Dorjes.. Dorjes are normally created at the minimum manifester level required to manifest the power, and powers that can be augmented are not augmented when stored in a dorje. That one Line IMHO means no feats in crafting Dorjes... You will notice that that line is NOT under Craft wands.. bringing the Items back into balance... But then again... the Psion is also running around with Dorje: Energy ray (Electric) and 1 for every energy type.. (type is chosen when crafted not changed at will) |
| lonewolf10-01-07, 06:34 PM | wow Rauul, you just quoted a rule that was completely missed by everyone else and makes about 20% of the characters in CoCo eligable for a violation post in the prison... EDIT: ok maybe not THAT many, but still. This is huge. |
| Rauul10-01-07, 06:36 PM | wow Rauul, you just quoted a rule that was completely missed by everyone else and makes about 20% of the characters in CoCo eligable for a violation post in the prison... yea like that will ever happen... edit=> Btw i will be doing your fight late tonight or early in the AM.. |
| lonewolf10-01-07, 06:40 PM | I mean something completely different. Maybe you missed it too, even after posting the quote yourself: powers that can be augmented are not augmented when stored in a dorje All those ML2 dorjes of energy ray or vigor suddenly are NOT augmented. Templers dorje of energy missile ML6 isnt augmented. Dorjes of expansion [ML3] are not augmented.... The list goes on. EDIT: I was wrong. The rest of the paragraph actually contradicts this first statement. My bad. |

Dorjes are normally created at the minimum manifester level required to manifest the power, and powers that can be augmented are not augmented when stored in a dorje. A dorje’s wielder cannot augment the power contained within the dorje. However, dorjes can be created at a higher manifester level than required to manifest the power. In this case, the dorje that holds an augmentable power is augmented, to the limit of the manifester level and the power’s augmentation maximums, if any. The manifester level of a dorje cannot be more than five higher than the minimum manifester level to use the power it contains. they can be augmented only if they are at a higher manifester level..But Since Enlarge dosen't make it a higher Manifester level but does Augment a power.... it can't/Shouldn't be used |

Well i tossed it into the Courtroom... Will let the Elders Decide.. Personnely to me it is just more Psionic Cheese.. |
| lonewolf10-01-07, 07:00 PM | I have to agree with Salratol here. The rules say that it works. If that is disireable or not is another topic. |
| Macbrea10-01-07, 07:19 PM | Stupid question on an Enlarged Energy Ray Dorje. Exactly how does the Dorje expend focus? |
| Eamane10-01-07, 07:30 PM | Stupid question on an Enlarged Energy Ray Dorje. Exactly how does the Dorje expend focus? The creator of the dorje expends his/her focus when he/she makes the dorje. Along with some power points. Just like the creator of a wand of empowered Magic Missile expends his/her level 3 spell slot when he/she makes the wand. |
| Macbrea10-01-07, 07:47 PM | You are required to Expend focus everytime you manifest an enlarged Dorje. I don't see how exactly you can expend focus 50 times and store them up. You can on the other hand expend 3rd level slots without a problem for the empowered Magic missile wand. |
| Salrantol10-01-07, 08:10 PM | You are required to Expend focus everytime you manifest an enlarged Dorje. I don't see how exactly you can expend focus 50 times and store them up. You can on the other hand expend 3rd level slots without a problem for the empowered Magic missile wand. With wands and dorjes, you cast/manifest once per day, and it takes 1 day per 1000 gp in the base cost. Not a problem. |

So psionics has better interactions between expendables and meta feats. [...] It makes psionic ray powers somewhat viable at low levels as a primary damage source. Meanwhile, Magic Missile & friends has always been viable as a low level damage source and doesn't need enlarging/etc. this is not about the power of magics vs the power of psionics. it's about the feats modifying them. and as such, enlarge in a dorje does things that are just not ok. it's coincidencental, that coco has house rules about augmention affecting the manifester level when creating items. enlarge is just about one of the many things that should be added to psionic-houserules (like energy missile dc) |
| Eamane10-02-07, 02:16 AM | @ Telinartho & Whitebaron I've started Wooly vs Vallgar; there were some minor missing/incorrect bits in the tactics, but nothing major. (Hint: Scroll's arn't weapon-like objects and fighting without giving target priority when you have multiple targets is unwise) Fight is up here (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=13964887&postcount=1365). The formating is a bit wonky; the WotC boards don't seem to like cut/pastes from notepad anymore.. Meh. Too tired to fix it, as it's 'just' extra carriage returns. I'll do my other fight early tomorrow, it's a lower ECL which means it should go faster than this one, right? <.< Right. |
| whitebaron10-02-07, 03:57 AM | bah... the roller is all against me this week. i want to roll with my own dice! :) fail to hit on a touch attack + fall to a single spell + get shot down by the cohort in the ffa, wanted me dead first (which was a mistake actually that led our team to place 2.) i think you should have to do the blindness first in our fight, though, as he is within 140 ft - use the LoS feature of the map when doing such decisions. ;) this would give me one round, nothing noteworthy. |

| Eluria10-02-07, 03:50 PM | Wroth Kortek vs Rennae Longhallow is up here (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=13968784&postcount=1368) Thank you for running the fight; however, I have a number of major problems. In round6, wroth is entangled. There is a contingency that says "if entangled, cast sanctuary." That changes, or has the potential to change, everything. If you edit that in, it is possible/probable that much damage will be mitigated. Beyond that, in round7, you have wroth attack with his morningstar; he should be attacking with his Touch of Madness touch attack. That would hit, as his touch AC at that point is 12. That has the potential to change everything. 3 rounds of him being dazed is pretty important. I honestly didn't comb through the rest of the fight, because those are two strongly fight affecting changes I would like you to edit in and take into account. Thank you, e When Rennae is spotted, order of engagement should be: Get within 30' --Throw tanglefoot bag --Wand of RoE [note if Str penalty is severe he may become more encumbered which can affect his max dex bonus to AC] --If he's entangled by tanglefoot bag, fire Xbow with poison bolt; otherwise ignore this line --Charge with touch of madness, attack until hits --Then attack with morningstar, swing until poisoned [remember second save vs. poison] --Expansion --Grapple for damage If that fails, continue attacking until he's down with melee weapon. Contingencies: --If astral constructs appear, cast Sanctuary --If entangling ectoplasmed/prevented from reaching him, cast Sanctuary at that point. |

That's obviously up to your interpretation, and I can totally see how that line could and can be read as "if entangling ectoplasmed AND prevented from reaching him," however, I (and I think most people) use "/" as "or" not "and." It's up to your interpretation, and I'll be more clear in the future. I do appreciate you editting the touch of madness part; thank you. -e |

I edit the touch of madness in and in fact Rennae fails the save on a natural 1 so give me a few minutes to work out the fight from that point. I will keep the rolls as they stand and move them where needed. |

| lonewolf10-02-07, 04:54 PM | the MOUNT moves - it does a withdraw action - so no AOA as far as i know. The rider doesnt stay at the same place => he moves and thus provokes an AoO. Both Rider and Mount have to withdraw to avoid an AoO as far as I know. |
| MindWandererB10-02-07, 05:17 PM | lonewolf is correct. It's mentioned in the RotG, I think. |
| Callix10-02-07, 05:17 PM | @Eamane; Sjiggie: Thanks for runnng both fights, and sorry I didn't notice earlier. Now rushing to level Petyr before the deadline. Still, I can just leave Petyr out for a week and activate Ralein and Rennae. @Eluria: Weird, huh? I end up Wroth's opponent in 3 fights. Bad luck in that fight; Touch of Madness should've done something at least. |

The character's name alone gives great flavor. But.. ye gods. That AC! I'm assuming your going monk next level, which is why you don't have any armor but... Why make your +0 modifer skill into your earn money choice? Wouldn't ranks in Profession done better in the long run? Or you planning to get a template with a huge charisma increase?Monk = yes. Beatbox = I had to have the ranks in perform anyway for bard stuff. Making money with it was kind of secondary. She's much more skill-lite than I'm used to. Template = nah. Tweaks all about maxed land speed and style. Maybe elocator or something to make the speed work better. I have the build written down somewhere, but havn't looked at it in a while. |
| SauroGrenom10-02-07, 08:14 PM | Kracknol (SauroGrenom) vs Lord Lorian (templer10) is up. Telin, I'm looking over this, and there's a problem. Kracknol can charge a huge distance of 200' in a round with a 100' movement before that in the same round to setup a charge using hustle. Lorian can only move 220'... In a circular arena, there is ample opportunity to charge at some point... For example Round 5: Lorian moves to (56,16) Krakcnol starts at (14,7) and he can move to (55,14) moving a distance of 190' w/o any objects in the way... With haste as requested, that's more than enough ability to charge and lion's charge the mount to death. That's just the first round that I checked the tactical movement. I'm sure that in an arena of that size, there are multiple opportunities to charge 200' and close into melee. Also Kracnol has hustle and haste a move action 100' to setup a charge... In an arena only 300' wide, there's no place you can hide where a guy standing near the middle who can move 300' with a hustle and charge won't be able to hit you. There's just no decent place to hide... There are lots of places where Kracknol can get into melee with this opponent on this map. Perhaps on the plains he could evade me (not likely there either), but not in the arena. Definitely not. |

Perhaps on the plains he could evade me (not likely there either), but not in the arena. Definitely not. I asked to do run actions when needed so i can definently beat you in a strait line. also - the whole qustion of wheter haste would have made a diffrence is moot since you only mentioned using haste in your tactics while making a dive - in the looking for me part you said "Activate the boots of flying and fly up toward the ceiling, continue the clockwise movement around the arena." no mention of haste. the same apply for hustle - You didnt ask for it used AT ALL exept in the part about a second melee round... you cant ask now to use haste and hustle when you didnt spesify it just becuase it possibly could have made a diffrence here - that's way way over what a pitlord should improvise. ALso - is it even possible to do a charge after doing hustle? charge is a full round action that spesifcly say that you cant do any other movement exept a 5 foot step when doing a charge. also - you are assuming i will let you have a charge line? why on earth would i do that - especially since i spesificly said not 2. also note that i mentioned making super wing invisible also (i myself am invisible) if you somehow can get close to me - so you wont have luck there i think also (or i hope anyway). |
| TelinArtho10-02-07, 08:30 PM | While I wasn't perfect for movement for you sauro - I wasn't perfect for templer either. Lord Lorian's tactics specified to stay as far away as possible while avoiding and to cut off LOS. This means Kracknol will have no opportunity to charge (since he won't have LOS). With 240ft of movement - it is very easy for Lord Lorian to evade you since you don't have 200ft of movement all of the time. You only mentioned using hustle to regain focus and you didn't exactly have a lot of PP to burn with to give me the leeway to adjust with. |
| MindWandererB10-02-07, 08:43 PM | You don't need LOS to charge with Hustle. You use the bonus move action to get into position and the full-round action to charge. ...however, looking at Kracknol's tactics, they don't say to do this. Hustle is mentioned only to regain focus. Otherwise, yeah, it's easy to prevent a charge lane with a 90'-speed mount. |

Well all warriors loose on poor tactical movement... over and over again. The arena is only so big. He can only move 240' in one direction for a while before he has to turn around and go back the other way, and he can never move the whole run distance in a straight line on the arena. Soa guy on the inside line can get an angle on the guy running along the outside. I found at least one place where Kracknol can charge, and Templer's request to never end a move with a possible charge is an impossible request on an arena so small. I'm sure that there are other times where he needs to decide between moving the full distance or moving behind an obstacle. |

I have to say that frankly your comments are leading me to believe that you're a jerk. Others in a position to discuss this are arguing for you. So if you had any wisdom, you'd just stand aside and let them... And you're wrong. I did ask to use haste, just to do so when a full attack was possible. Considering that is connected to a lion's charge as requested, the haste comes into play any time a charge is executed. Anyway I'll let this drop, and let it be known that I think you're a worse winer than Cat ever was. |

Well - he's moving 240ft on a double move - so its not like he can't turn over the course of that distance. Here's a simple example of his movement compared to yours. http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=Name,L,9,16,13, 11,29,7,50,11;b=Name,M,22,30,47,18 Next round: http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=Name,L,50,11,56 ,21,56,37,52,52;b=Name,M,47,18,50,44 |

With Hustle worked in there, I'd agree with you. But all Lorian has to do is get on the other side of a pillar, any pillar, and with his speed, there's no place in the arena from which he can't accomplish that. There might be ways to set it up, but only if Lorian made a mistake. |

Here's what it says about being overloaded: "A character can lift as much as double his or her maximum load off the ground, but he or she can only stagger around with it. While overloaded in this way, the character loses any Dexterity bonus to AC and can move only 5 feet per round (as a full-round action)." Of course, it still doesn't say what happens if you're over double your maximum load. Maybe you're completely immobilized? |

That's interesting... you should've hit in round 11. Still, max damage won't end the fight, so no changes. In a more general sense, a character can push or drag up to five times their maximum load. So Rennae could still possibly move 5 feet, even with a strength of 1, by dragging her pack. However, most of her weight is in her armor and crossbow, so if I were running the fight as DM, not pitlord, I'd say Rennae can't keep herself upright with that much weight, so she falls prone. She can still drag that much weight, and so can crawl 5ft as a full-round action. At this point, she'd drop the crossbow so she can get up if she needs to. But I didn't specify this contingency in my tactics, and the rules haven't been formally set out yet. Oh, well. |

I was looking for it as well but couldn't find it. It would change the fight but not alter the result. Wroth would hit in round 11 using her expansion in round 12 and start to grapple in round 13 but dorjes can be used in grapples and Wroth cannot deal enough damage to end the fight in round 13 so in round 14 he would still go down. I'll remember it for future fights though. |
| Eluria10-03-07, 07:42 PM | Sounds fair to me; thanks for the effort in the fight! e |
