| Pitlords03-23-05, 06:01 PM | PAIRINGS DONE Send tactics early to your Pitlord. Pitlords may begin running fights without tactics on saturday. All fights due Tuesday 8 AM GMT, late penalties after that date. Credit Balance Credits for pitlording/questlording: +5: Huan +3: T'Var +2: Jindl, Kaigan, Spasheridan, Xanadu +1: Pittbull, Sindorin, Owa, Beldin, Arti, TaggIIV, Iced Credits for being on Quests: -1: Caterane, Kaigan, TaggIIV, Xanadu Credits for active characters: <none> Miscellaneous Credits: +1: Caterane (admin) Total Credit Changes: +5: Huan +3: T'Var +2: Jindl, Spasheridan +1: Pittbull, Sindorin, Owa, Beldin, Arti, Iced, Kaigan, Xanadu +0: Caterane, TaggIIV Announcements: I've been able to finish another part of the FAQ, this time the NPC Services (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=5660668). It is still under construction but the missing parts (cohort casting - no cohorts available atm, blackmarket: see thread) are not that important at the moment. One important change is the extension and alteration of NPC spellcasting service which was limited to Permanent Spells and Spellstoring items. Now it works differently: you may buy any spell although only a few might be beneficial for arena combat. You may buy a spell with a caster level up to your ECL. If you want to have a higher CL you need to pay credits, 1° per CL above your ECL. Reason: It is very unrealistic to find a CL 20 spellcaster at lowlevel who makes some of your spells permanent. You can still make spells permanent albeit at a lower CL. You can still get a high CL but you need to go to great lengths to get that (many credits), like in a campaign. As for the spellcasting itself, it is more realistic that a lvl 16 monk gets a mage armor from his party wizard than that he buys CL 1 mage armor potions till epic levels. The increased CL helps in resisting dispels. He can also buy a CL 8 extended mage armor at lvl 8 but the CL is lower. And it is another way to spend credits. Then I am proud to announce that one of our best - Cellardweller - participates in the Fey Contest. Apparently Kiri'endelas didn't have the same effect like on Hatzinger so we press our thumbs that he will win. Well, since pressing thumbs doesn't help him as much as actively voting for his build I want to ask all of you to give your voice to Cellardweller's build! The poll will be this friday; I will give you the link to the Poll on time. Please try to get online on friday and make your vote. Alright, make us proud David! |
| spasheridan03-23-05, 06:08 PM | Crask Mindwhip (Iced) vs Finael Owlguide (Spasheridan): Spasheridan SO, can I just declare myself the winner and be done with it? :D OR.. better yet, maybe I can pitlord a differant fight. |

I will be gone all next week, starting Sunday, and the only time I have to run it in earnest is on Saturday, Sunday possibly. BTW, a comment: what happened to all the gladiators? There is next to no one this week. Reminds me of the old COCO |
| spasheridan03-23-05, 07:30 PM | WBTW, a comment: what happened to all the gladiators? There is next to no one this week. Reminds me of the old COCO I count 38 active gladiators this week, 17 in matches and 4 on quests. Is that to few? |

| One_Winged_Angel03-23-05, 11:11 PM | I count 38 active gladiators this week, 17 in matches and 4 on quests. Is that to few? Naw. Just first time in a while that I've requested more than one fight and only gotten one. I thought it was kinda odd. We had, what? 20+ matches a few weeks back. Guess we're thinning the ranks, no? EDIT: Tactics sent to repective pitlords. Please conferm. |

| Beldin03-24-05, 03:42 AM | @Caterane: shouldn't I get a late penalty and sit out with pitlording? If not then please resign the fight to some one else and set me to <zero> fights. Thankyou |

Waiting on tactics for Ensidious and Crask. @Iced - Crask only used 32 pts for his abilities ... feel free to assign the other 4 pts (by posting the change publicly here on this thread ... do not edit your character sheet). @Sindorin/T'var - Working on tactics now for the Elder and JotHF. @T'Var - You must really like JotHF, since Cat has assigned you to run his last 5 fights in a row? -Jindl |
| Pitlords03-24-05, 02:13 PM | @Caterane: shouldn't I get a late penalty and sit out with pitlording? If not then please resign the fight to some one else and set me to <zero> fights. Thankyou The 2 weeks probation has been replaced by a negative credit for posting late (after tuesday 8 AM GMT) and another if one doesn't post the fight at all. | Iced03-25-05, 10:43 PM | go ahead and add two to strength and two to dexterity. Thanks. |
| One_Winged_Angel03-25-05, 11:24 PM | One minor question that would change the outcome of Keth's fight: I asked in my tactics to set my dodge and have a +1 to AC. OK, in the first few rounds, no biggie. But that whip had an attack of 22, where my AC would be 23 (Dancing weapons are still weilded by the person), so I would not be grappled. |
| Arstimis03-25-05, 11:34 PM | Also, to Keth would have a +7 (using dex instead of str) to escape the grapple when it did grapple him. So he would have gotten out of the whip |
| spasheridan03-26-05, 12:11 AM | I would imagine that since the whip has it's own BAB and stuff then dodge would not apply to the whip. Unbiased 3rd party, ruling? I see.. you make an escape artist check so it'd be 15 + 7 (escape) vs 4 + 15 (grapple) and get out. But you still get gutted by the spiked chain on the next swing so it don't matter. AND.. Trokk vs Keth is up. As noted at the end I had problems running the fight because of Keth's defensive tactics. Keth had a few opportunities to attack but I kept getting forced to have him run, dodge, and try to hide. OWA, did I do that right or was he supposed to turn and fight at some point?? Would you have stabbed with the rapier instead of shattered? Would you have shot with your bow instead of drinking the CLW or the Daze? As an aside on this... what's the rule on nothing happening for 10 rounds in the match? I'm imagining 2 passive characters who rdy vs each other. Eventually one of em has to blink... and get's burned for it. What's the standard way of determining how to get out of tactic stalemates? |
| Huan03-26-05, 08:12 AM | @Khaz_Gu Suggang's tactics recieved, thank you ... running my fight now. |
| One_Winged_Angel03-26-05, 11:18 AM | I would imagine that since the whip has it's own BAB and stuff then dodge would not apply to the whip. Unbiased 3rd party, ruling? ...the whip weilds itself against an opponent desired just like a dancing weapon. Dancing: As a standard action, a dancing weapon can be loosed to attack on its own. It fights for 4 rounds using the base attack bonus of the one who loosed it and then drops. While dancing, it cannot make attacks of opportunity, and the person who activated it is not considered armed with the weapon. In all other respects, it is considered wielded or attended by the creature for all maneuvers and effects that target items. While dancing, it takes up the same space as the activating character and can attack adjacent foes (weapons with reach can attack opponents up to 10 feet away). The dancing weapon accompanies the person who activated it everywhere, whether she moves by physical or magical means. If the wielder who loosed it has an unoccupied hand, she can grasp it while it is attacking on its own as a free action; when so retrieved the weapon can’t dance (attack on its own) again for 4 rounds. ??? I see.. you make an escape artist check so it'd be 15 + 7 (escape) vs 4 + 15 (grapple) and get out. But you still get gutted by the spiked chain on the next swing so it don't matter. AND.. Trokk vs Keth is up. As noted at the end I had problems running the fight because of Keth's defensive tactics. Eventually one of em has to blink... and get's burned for it. What's the standard way of determining how to get out of tactic stalemates? As to this, I want to use my shatter spell like ability to shatter all his potions. If he closes again, drop my bow, pull out my rapier, and attack away. Attack defensviely to get the +2 to AC. That's about the gist of it. My only thing was if he backed off, try to go and hide. The 10 round rule applies if a character can do something, but does nothing instead. The primary reason for this is so that we don't do the "Wait until the fighters potion of Shield of Faith runs out." So, basically, if Keth were doing absolutly nothing (not attacking, spelling, etc.) then the rule would start to apply. |
| Arstimis03-26-05, 11:26 AM | Tactics sent to both Pitlords for Arthemus and En'Sidious, last night also, Alexis's character sheet says changed with permission...I never heard anything about this, and dont know what those changes are. So could you please tell me what those were |
| Pittbull03-26-05, 11:27 AM | The fight Rook vs Azriel is posted (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=5773696&postcount=1412). |
| Sindorin03-26-05, 11:43 AM | Arstimis: I talked with Caterane about it, and he told me I could ready Alexis for Nanaleigh. So in all actuality, she didn't really edit it, I did. All I did was link her most recent fight, correct a price labeling error on her +1 Longbow, and mark her subject line. |

All I did was link her most recent fight, correct a price labeling error on her +1 Longbow, and mark her subject line. ok, cool, that isnt a problem at all...i didnt really see any difference anyways. but remember, if you do change anything after pairings you have to tell the pitlord and the gladiator they are against so they also know |
| One_Winged_Angel03-26-05, 11:49 AM | The fight Rook vs Azriel is posted (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=5773696&postcount=1412). Oh, great. He made a mistake with his scrolls. Wonderful. Had I known that, I would not have bothered flying as to avoid that stupid fall damage. Great, wonderful, love it. I believe the term is "communication breakdown." Cept there was no communication. Oh, and spasheridan, one last bit, I posted something in the character violation thread that you might be interested in. Most notably, Trok can't take Imp. Trip. |

Great, wonderful, love it. I believe the term is "communication breakdown." Cept there was no communication. As i just said in my above post, any changes to a character sheet must be told to the pitlord AND opposing gladiator, or the change is null and void. so a there might need to be a rerun Pitbull seems to agree with me,Rook knows he has toget close to her, so he draws his scroll of fly [@Huan: I hope, you told OWA about the mistake of the scrolls, if not, a rerun from this point might be necessary. Oh, and spasheridan, one last bit, I posted something in the character violation thread that you might be interested in. Most notably, Trok can't take Imp. Trip. OWA had to go just now and didnt have a chance to fiix what he said here. He was looking at the wis score instead of the int score, Stupid him (that's what he said) |
| Megrim_Lord03-26-05, 12:02 PM | Oh, great. He made a mistake with his scrolls. Wonderful. Had I known that, I would not have bothered flying as to avoid that stupid fall damage. Oh, and spasheridan, one last bit, I posted something in the character violation thread that you might be interested in. Most notably, Trok can't take Imp. Trip. might want to read my sheet next time, instead of assuming that the stupid orc is actually stupid :D |
| Pittbull03-26-05, 01:20 PM | Oh, great. He made a mistake with his scrolls. Wonderful. Had I known that, I would not have bothered flying as to avoid that stupid fall damage. Great, wonderful, love it. I believe the term is "communication breakdown." Cept there was no communication. @OWA: Do you want a rerun? If yes, please sent me something, what Azriel should do, knowing that Rook has a scroll of fly. Her chances for a win are pretty low, since the color-spray-rolls are allready made and Rook has protection from arrows. But who knows..... :) |
| spasheridan03-26-05, 02:47 PM | Aeluath Dryearraheal vs Borax is up. If I feel creative I'll add some story stuff to it, but I'm not sure I have it in me. |
| spasheridan03-26-05, 02:51 PM | @ OWA- See, if you have a dancing sword, the dancing sword uses your BAB to attack, so it's really like you're sword. If you use a whip feather token, the whip uses IT'S BAB, so it's more like the whip is attacking instead of you the whip weilds itself against an opponent desired just like a dancing weapon.. Anywho, unbiased, 3rd party ruling?? I can see it both ways so I'm unsure how to rule it. |
| spasheridan03-26-05, 02:55 PM | The 10 round rule applies if a character can do something, but does nothing instead. The primary reason for this is so that we don't do the "Wait until the fighters potion of Shield of Faith runs out." So, basically, if Keth were doing absolutly nothing (not attacking, spelling, etc.) then the rule would start to apply. I wasn't talking about Keth, Keth was as active as Keth could be. I was referring to a differant kind of fight, say a fight where 2 wizards were both sitting at their starting locations readying a fireball as soon as their opponent appeared. Since neither is moving this will be a tactics stalemate. BUT, if I force Wiz A to move then Wiz A gets charred by Wiz B. SO, what would the ruling be on this... cancel both delayed actions and let Wiz A move into LOS and Cast on Wiz B? Thanks! |
| Pittbull03-26-05, 03:17 PM | @Spasheridan: Sorry, I didn't got the time to read the fight, but I saw the result and realized that there was a melee-contact in round 4. I told you that it's impossible for Aelua to get in melee, because of the big difference in movement, 80ft to 50ft. There has been a very big mistake how you mved Boraxx. Reading your aftertoughts, I advice you to read my tactic regarding Animal Affinity again. Don't get me wrong, I'm not asking for a rerun, I never do, but nevertheless there have been quite some big mistakes. I really don't understand how it's possible to be in melee unless Boraxx forces it. |
| Huan03-26-05, 03:42 PM | @OWA Actually I DID send you notice of the changes to my sheet, but somehow you did not get it (maybe I spelled something wrong and someone else got it?). Its seems there indeed was a communication breakdown. Either way, the fact is you did not recieve word, so a rerun is fair. |
| spasheridan03-26-05, 04:13 PM | @Spasheridan: Sorry, I didn't got the time to read the fight, but I saw the result and realized that there was a melee-contact in round 4. Don't get me wrong, I'm not asking for a rerun, I never do, but nevertheless there have been quite some big mistakes. I really don't understand how it's possible to be in melee unless Boraxx forces it. @ Pitbull- You're tactics were clear. Buff, them move so there is cover between Boraxx & Aeloa and shoot. This is what you did. In rnd 3 Aeloa moved into the open about 80 feet away from you and readied an action to move after you shot. You moved, shot, and he moved into a straight line with you. THen he went on rnd 4 and charged. He got into combat with you because he had that readied action and because you didn't specify a minimum range. I could have had you move / move and shoot the first few rounds but you wanted to shoot your bow and the additional penalty to hit was not good for your tactics. After that you move / moved every round in such a way that prevent him from ever charging you, but with his readied actions he can always get into base-base contact. Check the map if you want, but because the arena is circular, if the slower combatant stays closer to the center he has less distance to travel to any point in the arena than the faster target at the edge of the arena. You stay at the edge of the arena to maximize range and get out of his move / charge direction. There is no way to avoid this unless you have a MUCH faster mount (maybe if you could move 100 you would get away). After an iteration or 2 of the movement cycle I just decided to abstract it because I couldn't see a way for Boraxx to ever avoid being based by Aelou. f it takes too long to kill him, tap the tatoo of Animal Affinity (Dex) and aply Oil of magic weapon, but only if it's realy necessary. Here are your tactics for extra buffs. Since you knew when you wrote the tactics that his AC was 22 and he'd be getting cover from his mount I figured you felt that needing an 18 to hit him vs the 20 he would need to hit you (if he obliged and did an archery contest with you) is what you wanted. I figured that you would use extra buffs only if his AC went above his basic 22 + cover, and it never did. If you need an 18 to hit, and he has 34 HP, then you need an average of 5 hits to kill. That will take you .. 30 rounds on the average. After you were forced into a move / move every round to stop him charging you were up to needing 20's to hit. Maybe you would have wanted to use the Animal Affinity tattoo then, but you said only if it's really necesarry... maybe you would have used it in rnd 8 or so after the cycle was explicity clear. Anywho, that's my thoughts on the matter. I definitly have time this weekend to double check and re-run. Take some time to read the match a bit more carefully and test it out on your map. If you can see a way to move / move every rnd and keep Aeloa not in base - base then show me and I'll check it out. You came within a die roll of winning, you had that 3d10 + 21 crit, the average damage would be 37 but you came up with 30 and that left him with 4 HP. I think the deciding factor for this match was luck. Aeloa was very lucky with his dice and Boraxx had a poor set of rolls. |
| One_Winged_Angel03-26-05, 05:23 PM | @OWA: Do you want a rerun? If yes, please sent me something, what Azriel should do, knowing that Rook has a scroll of fly. Her chances for a win are pretty low, since the color-spray-rolls are allready made and Rook has protection from arrows. But who knows..... :) Since he can fly, I'd keep moving. That's really about it, but stay closer to the ground. As in 5 ft up. Really, my tactics were centered about him not having that scroll, but hey, its only fair. Dodge, get behind cover from where I can hear him, and stay active. EDIT: Oh, yes I'd like a re-run, just from that point. And, like arti said, sorry about the mix up with the orc. I did look at the wis, not the int. And yes, I did call myself stupid. However, I still say that my dodge does apply against the whip because it is considered a dancing weapon. A dancing weapon does wield itself, but is still considered "wielded" by the person. I dunno. This one goes to the elders. |
| Pittbull03-26-05, 07:35 PM | He got into combat with you because he had that readied action and because you didn't specify a minimum range. I could have had you move / move and shoot the first few rounds but you wanted to shoot your bow and the additional penalty to hit was not good for your tactics. OK, this was clearly my mistake, I didn't give a minimum distance. I thought, it is common sense that a gladiator with +30ft speed per move, is untouchable in the arena. I lost so many fights so far, because of this. You're the first says this is wrong, you need a much more faster movement. It realy takes too long to dicuss whole movement-issue, but you ask Cat or others, about their opinion in denying charges and melee-attacks due to clever movement. Writing the tactics, I knew that the chances to hit him will be pretty low, but having so many arrows and plenty of time, made me believe that this is there more secure way to win rather than to join melee. Another mistake of mine was that I didn't write:"When it comes to melee, switch weapons and attack." I wrote the tactics during work in a rush, hm, that happens.... All in all there is no need for a rerun, the next week is another good week for new fights..... :) @OWA: Of course, I'll do the rerun. Perhaps I'll have some time even tomorrow. |
| xanadu03-26-05, 09:14 PM | Thorn Vs. Dorian is up... |
| Sindorin03-26-05, 11:25 PM | Laph vs. The Elder (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=5778466&postcount=1414) is up. Let me know if I screwed up anything. It was the most complicated fight I have run in a while... Also, my dice are crazy! |
| spasheridan03-27-05, 12:35 AM | Hey Sindorin- You asked, so.. I'll pull out my red ink pen. Let's see how the fight went.Elder (Spot: 20!+16-22= 14! Vs. Hide: 17+51= 68, succeeds) sees the faint glimmer of Laph’s beating wings in the air behind a pillar. He needs to get closer if he wants to follow his tactics. He double moves to (9,5) (Laph Listen: 16+6-22= 0 vs. Elder Move Silently: 12+1-5= 8, does not hear movement). A 20 on a skill check is not an auto sucess, Elder has no idea where Laph is. Prolly not a big deal, but FYI. Laph moves to (-11,19,6) and readies to cast Dispel Magic at Elder. Elder draws a power stone of Enlarged Energy Ray (ML10) and 5’ steps to (-1,3), triggering Laph’s readied action (Dispel Magic: 13+8= 21 vs Invisibility DC 14, dispelled, 6+8= 14 vs 14 See Invisibility, not dispelled, 18+8= 26 Vigor DC 16, dispelled). Elder manifests his power stone of Energy Ray (ML Check: 17+3= 20 vs. 11, succeeds, Ranged touch: 20! Again, seriously?!, crit confirm: 17+3= 20 vs. 18, CRIT CONFIRMED… Miss chance: 29 vs. DC 20 succeeds, ML Check agains PR: 17+5= 20 vs. PR 16… Why does Laph ready an action here? BUT, the big deal in this round: Targeted Dispel: One object, creature, or spell is the target of the dispel magic spell. You make a dispel check (1d20 + your caster level, maximum +10) against the spell or against each ongoing spell currently in effect on the object or creature. The DC for this dispel check is 11 + the spell’s caster level. If you succeed on a particular check, that spell is dispelled; if you fail, that spell remains in effect. SO, the DC to nuke See Invis is 14, he rolled a 14.. so see invis IS dispelled and then you need the 50% miss chance for invis creatures AND that's the same concealment check as Amporhpa (you only get 1 concealment) so the Energy Ray would miss... At least that's how I read it. |
| Sindorin03-27-05, 01:03 AM | aha, yes. I had him ready the dispel per his tactics. I do see where I forgot the concealment checks and I knew I probably messed up Dispel Magic. I'll take a look at it tomorrow because right now I'm really out of it. |
| Pittbull03-27-05, 05:26 AM | aha, yes. I had him ready the dispel per his tactics. I do see where I forgot the concealment checks and I knew I probably messed up Dispel Magic. I'll take a look at it tomorrow because right now I'm really out of it. @Sindorin: The points from Spash are right, see invisibility is screwed. But there two major mistakes: First, how can he ready against a spell-like abillity, as I know it displays nothing, no somatic, nor verbal components, there hasn't been a trigger. Second, you haven't followed my and this was crucial: The next action is to cast (I’d like him to be 180ft away) a targeted dispel magic on the Elder, move and hide again. Since his ML10 powerstone has a range of 100ft and he isn't flying, he wouldn't be never able to hit Laph with the ray. But let's wait what Jindl has to say. I'm apologizing, for all the stress you have with this fight, I know it's a very difficult one, but the Elder shouldn't advance his unbelievable winning-streak because of mistakes. ;) EDIT: Two other points: Round7: Compression runs out, why, this powerstone has been augmented to increase the duration:compression (augmented for duration) If you spend 2 additional power points, this power’s duration is 1 minute per level rather than 1 round per level. Round9: PR: 1!+4[+10]= 5 [11]vs. PR 16, but that doesn't matter. :) EDIT2: And last but not least, why did you attack before Laph dispelled his buffs. My tactic has been dispel his buffs and then attack with full power. |
| Iced03-27-05, 11:01 AM | Fenir Ahea (Piuro) vs Rakkar the Reckless (Xanadu): Iced This will be up sometime later today, with or without Piuro's tactics. Yay! Thorn won his fight! :dancin: :bounce: :mage: |
| spasheridan03-27-05, 12:30 PM | @ Iced- Rakkar has MW studded Leather, which has an ACP of 0. Normal: A character who is wearing armor with which she is not proficient applies its armor check penalty to attack rolls and to all skill checks that involve moving, including Ride. SO it's not a problem that Rakkar doesn't have proficincy PS - How did RAkkar the commonor even make 3200 GP anyways?? |
| xanadu03-27-05, 12:55 PM | PS - How did RAkkar the commonor even make 3200 GP anyways?? Corn is in very high demand here in Gladius :D |
| xanadu03-27-05, 12:58 PM | @ Iced- Rakkar has MW studded Leather, which has an ACP of 0. SO it's not a problem that Rakkar doesn't have proficincy Correct, which is why RakkaR wears MW Studded leather. |

I probably attacked before dispelling closer than you wanted because until then you had no way really of knowing where he was. It's also rather hard to get the distance that you want, but I will look at it. I'll be rerunning it from wherever I messed up (probably early on). I sat there staring at the tactics for both of you, and the way it looked I would have had both of you sitting there waiting for the other to make the first move. I might even just start from scratch... |
| One_Winged_Angel03-27-05, 04:25 PM | OK, listen, I'm in a fix. I'm not going to be able to do my fight since all hell has recently broken loose in my house. Sufficive to say, I'm banned from the internet after I post this. If someone could PLEASE take my fight, I'd be greatful. |
| Jindl03-27-05, 07:58 PM | Sorry if my responses are slow. I'm away from home and working on a dial-up connection ... Elder (Spot: 20!+16-22= 14! True, it is not an auto success. However, the visual/material display from Laph's manifestation prevents him from hiding. Of course, since Laph failed the concentration check to hide the display, he should have lost the power, and burned out the stone. Which raises an issue earlier in the fight. When the Elder was invisible, and he manifested vigor, he was supposed to hide the display. This is a DC 16 concentration check, which falls within the guidelines in my tactics for expending focus to autosucceed. So the Elder should have expended focus, hid his display, and kept his position unknown. Not a big deal overall, but important to mention in regards to the above issue. The Elder was invisible. Laph must have readied an action to use a dispel magic when the Elder was located. It's possible that Laph heard the Elder step, and that's why he cast dispel magic. However, his dispel must have been an area dispel, since he could not target the Elder (because Laph cannot see invisibility.) As an area dispel, it would only work against 1 spell effect per creature in the area, so after invisibility was dispelled, the rest of the spell effects would remain. But there two major mistakes: First, how can he ready against a spell-like abillity, as I know it displays nothing, no somatic, nor verbal components, there hasn't been a trigger. Spell-like abilities require concentration, which is a percievable trigger. However, the Elder's readied action may well be triggered by the visual effect of whatever spell-like ability Laph successfully uses. It would still interrupt the rest of Laph's turn, and reset the Elder's initiative before Laph's. Since his ML10 powerstone has a range of 100ft and he isn't flying, he wouldn't be never able to hit Laph with the ray. If you'll read the reactions section of my tactics, you'll see that I wrote "If the Elder needs to fly, then cast the scroll: fly." So, if the Elder needs to fly to bring Laph into range of the powerstone, then he can. Round7: Compression runs out, why, this powerstone has been augmented to increase the duration True, but not relevant in the fight, since Laph's "attack" gave away your position and the energy ray hit with a natural 20. Remember, the DC to spot a visual display is DC 0, just like the DC to hear spellcasting is DC 0. Round9: PR: 1!+4[+10]= 5 [11]vs. PR 16, but that doesn't matter. True on both counts. It's no big deal, I'm just sorry that i missed all of that; I thought I had everything pretty much correct. I believe my points above show that no rerun is needed. The area dispell could not affect see invisibility, the energy ray critical hit, passed concealment, and passed SR. No rerun should be needed. However, if for some reason you as the pitlord do affect a rerun, please follow the normal rules and keep the die rolls for the characters, in the proper context (attack rolls remain attack rolls, SR checks remain SR checks, etc.) -Jindl |
| spasheridan03-27-05, 08:56 PM | @OWA & Megrim- Trokk vs Keth has been tweaked to show that the 1st whip attack misses. It takes 2 more rnds for Trokk to hunt down Keth, same outcome. @JIndl- THanks for the info!! Any thoughts on movement for Aelou & Boraxx? @Elder Fihght- Since Laph is under the effects of Concealing Amporpha. he has concealment. Since he has concealment he would still be hiding. Even if Elder has See Invis he needs to make a spot check to see Laph, right? |
| Sindorin03-27-05, 09:15 PM | @Jindl - thanks for clearing that up... I can't do a rerun because there's a lot going on at the moment and I'm probably not going to be active this week anyway. |
| Iced03-27-05, 09:24 PM | Rakkar vs Fenir (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=5780985&postcount=1415) is up. The commoner has triumphed! Or at least his horse...... |
| xanadu03-27-05, 11:11 PM | Aramil Belha’doon Vs. Nyphanalith is up. It was a hectic fight where both gladiators had numerous opportunites to win. Might want to double check some stuff as it was somewhat confusing with companions, move silently, whip tokens, etc. |
| spasheridan03-28-05, 01:20 AM | OK, listen, I'm in a fix. I'm not going to be able to do my fight since all hell has recently broken loose in my house. Sufficive to say, I'm banned from the internet after I post this. If someone could PLEASE take my fight, I'd be greatful. Hey, if someone would please take OWA's fight I'd be grateful as well! Fyhir want's to try out his new tricks as a 4th level PW. I can forward you my tactics if you need them. If someone wants to trade fights.. I'll run yours if you can run this one.. I have time to run it tomorrow night. |
| Huan03-28-05, 11:17 AM | Bare-bones of Indri'ynar Per-El'ereth vs Suggang Krum'Shul (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=5789211) is up. Short version: Tactical movement and higher speed won out in yet another arrow match. (Btw, I voted for cellardweller.) EDIT: I can take Sokai vs Fyhir off OWA, and have it up by tonight, if no one minds. |
| Sindorin03-28-05, 12:17 PM | Do you need tactics for Sokai ? Edit: heh, good fight, Jindl. I kind of figured Entangle would be Ceres' downfall... |
| Huan03-28-05, 02:25 PM | Do you need tactics for Sokai ? Edit: heh, good fight, Jindl. I kind of figured Entangle would be Ceres' downfall... Yeah, if I get the fight I'll need tactics from both Sokai and Fyhir. |
| Caterane03-28-05, 02:29 PM | @Huan: The brooch price is a typo (copied it from another sheet); I payed 1500 gp. |
| Sindorin03-28-05, 02:35 PM | Yeah, if I get the fight I'll need tactics from both Sokai and Fyhir. Since i am going to be very busy later I will go ahead and send them to you now. |
| Huan03-28-05, 03:44 PM | @Spasheridan/Sindorin Recieved tactics from Fyhir and Sokai, thank you both. Fight guaranteed to be up tonight. Also, I feel my writer's block lifting (the recent vacation time did wonders).. so I will be writing stories like before (better quality, too, I hope). Any additional RP anyone wants me to include is appreciated. |
| Kaigan03-28-05, 04:35 PM | Hey guys, hope everyone had a great easter. Well I managed to get Damon vs. Zubair up, so go check it out. I think I followed their tactics as best as i could. For the other fight, Cloud Sky vs. Solmund, it will be late, and will be up tomorrow, sorry for the delay but I had no interent at home. Well have a good one. Kaigan |
| spasheridan03-28-05, 05:35 PM | @Kaigan:Round 8: D: Rides forward and casts Hold Person. While Centipedes move closer, but they can't reach Zubair, and Centipedes one and two disappear. [Will Save: 20 vs. DC 10+2spell lvl +7wis=19, pass], didn't pass, so draws scroll 9. Z: Moves away, but shoots. [Attack: 16 vs. AC 19, miss]Cellardweller has a Wis of 20, Insanity of +2, Owl Wisdom of +4, so his wis bonus is +8. He has spell focus Enchantment so the DC for his spell is 21, not 19. For his Spirtual weapons, he has + 9 to hit with them (BAB +3, Wis +5, Owls Wis +2, Insanity -1). Also, if someone rolls a 20! to hit with a weapon, no ride check can cancel the hit. Sorry if I'm super nitpicky, but I can be that way sometimes. This wont change the outcome of the fight though. |
| KerlanRayne03-28-05, 06:39 PM | Well I managed to get Damon vs. Zubair up, so go check it out. I think I followed their tactics as best as i could. There were a couple of rounds where all I did was ride, but I could have used the Entangle wand with my unused standard action. Al I might have been able to get away with a run action some times. KerlanRayne |
| Aramil Dunskar03-28-05, 08:16 PM | @xanadu: When I first pull out the whip in my fight, in round 6 i believe, and attempt to grapple the pet wyrm. Isn't the whip doing that by itself, that way I can continue to fire at the kobold? Lemme know, this could change the fight.... -Aramil |
| xanadu03-28-05, 10:11 PM | @xanadu: When I first pull out the whip in my fight, in round 6 i believe, and attempt to grapple the pet wyrm. Isn't the whip doing that by itself, that way I can continue to fire at the kobold? Lemme know, this could change the fight.... -Aramil You could do that, but a dancing weapon only dances for 4 rounds I believe, I wanted to give you the most rounds of uninterrupted firing. If you loose it before it succeeds in grappling you'd get less rounds and would have to dance around the crocadile and move away from the whip without ever getting the opportunity to re-grip it (I would have had your character do this had not your opponent's move forced you away from the whip). The fight ultimately came down to who hit first, his croc or you. There were a lot of bad rolls on both sides and unfortunetly his croc connected first. I played from the perspective of neutralizing his croc as long as possible. If you wish, I will follow your option, but I have to keep all the rolls so I doubt it will make a difference |
| Arstimis03-28-05, 11:00 PM | Grakk vs Zeem (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=5795633&postcount=1421) is up I dont really like when luck win's out over tactics. |
| Vivat Grendel03-28-05, 11:18 PM | Good job on the fight. I won last week on a lucky crit, followed by a lucky long range shot, so who am I to complain. Good Job by Grakk. Vivat Grendel |
| Solmund03-29-05, 12:31 AM | Hey guys, hope everyone had a great easter. Kaigan :waits: just my luck. i hope i am actually able to win this one. i might end up scraping this cracter and instead making a hafling barbarian.... |
| Huan03-29-05, 12:46 AM | Bare-bones of Sokai vs Fyhir (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=5796497) is up. Short version: Ouch... so many mighty have fallen this way... |
| spasheridan03-29-05, 01:04 AM | SO.. Huan.. did you get all of my tactics? Plz double check the email I sent and compare it to the PM I just sent. I think you just used my short synopsis and missed all the rest. |
| Huan03-29-05, 01:23 AM | SO.. Huan.. did you get all of my tactics? Plz double check the email I sent and compare it to the PM I just sent. I think you just used my short synopsis and missed all the rest. no, you are right, your email was cut in half by my mail client (it does some wierd thing with long email.) I do beleive this calls for a re-run, ok. |
| spasheridan03-29-05, 01:33 AM | Sorry for the hassle! And you stepping up and all to run the fight at the last minute. Thanks again! --- BUT, since I'm nitpicking --- Ego WHips from powerstones have a DC of 13, not 15. (12 cha, level 2) |
| Pittbull03-29-05, 03:11 AM | @Jindl - thanks for clearing that up... I can't do a rerun because there's a lot going on at the moment and I'm probably not going to be active this week anyway. OK! I believe my points above show that no rerun is needed. The area dispell could not affect see invisibility, the energy ray critical hit, passed concealment, and passed SR. No rerun should be needed. @Jindl: You forgot Laph's steadfest perception, he was able to see the Elder and a targeted dispel has been made. A rerun would be necessary to proof that this is a real win, but I won't ask for one and you can have the win. I'm quite surprised that your're so sure about the correctness of this fight and how Sindorin has handled the tactics, I'm not happy about his style. But everybody makes mistakes, me included. And saying no rerun should be needed, just irritates me a little bit. ;) |
| Huan03-29-05, 06:31 AM | Did anyone claim the Nell Leonne vs Derth fight? |
| Jindl03-29-05, 09:13 AM | @Jindl: You forgot Laph's steadfest perception, he was able to see the Elder and a targeted dispel has been made. And saying no rerun should be needed, just irritates me a little bit. ;) @ Pittbull - I didn't realize that you had manifested a powerstone: steadfast perception. Without it, Laph couldn't see invisibility, and there would be no need for a rerun. I was sure about the fight, but I guessed I missed that detail. Sorry. :( If Sindorin did rerun from that point, the Elder would recast his 2nd scroll: see invisibility, then proceed with his attacks (keeping his attack rolls, SR checks, and concealment checks). So the result might not change, unless Laph can attack without being detected for a while. Unfortunately, bad luck may prove Laph's downfall in this fight (like it has for my pc's on many an occasion). :( PS: Please check your PM. |
| Jindl03-29-05, 09:14 AM | Sorry guys, but my 2 fights will be late. :( I'll try to have them posted by the end of the day. -Jindl |
| Pittbull03-29-05, 09:24 AM | No problem mate, I've been a little bit angry, how my fights were run, hey, it's only game and next week, there are new encounters. :) |
| Arstimis03-29-05, 11:23 AM | Sorry guys, but my 2 fights will be late. :( I'll try to have them posted by the end of the day. -Jindl No problem Jindl, I just hope my fight isnt giving you too much trouble. It seems both my characters can be a bit annoying with how long they make the fights. |
| Kaigan03-29-05, 12:13 PM | Cloud vs. Solmund is up. Very close, haha, very very close, go check it out. |
| Huan03-29-05, 12:25 PM | Rerun of Sokai vs Fyhir (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=5796497) is done... though it is not better for one of them... |
| spasheridan03-29-05, 01:05 PM | @ Huan- However, if for some reason you as the pitlord do affect a rerun, please follow the normal rules and keep the die rolls for the characters, in the proper context (attack rolls remain attack rolls, SR checks remain SR checks, etc.)SO... those ego whip saves and damage rolls should have been kept from the 1st run..Drink Pr Law, draw stone Precog Offensive - Move / Move away from Sokai Manifest Vigor from stone, draw longbow - Move away from Sokai Manifest Precog from stone - Move away from Sokai I would move away from sokai on rnds 1, 2, and 3, so I should be at the opposite end of the arena on rnd 3.SO, Fyhir is going to move to some cover and ready and action<snip>If I haven't triggered my action (he's doing something other than nuking me with powers) then close and repeat the readied action. IF he's readying an action vs me - he's just sitting there in obvious sight and not doing anything - then I DON'T MOVE and ready again... if I just sit I can't trigger his action.SO I would move to cover (not necesarily closer) and then wait for him. I'm sorry my tactics were unclear, I should have edited them into something a bit more coherent. I think the important part is that you maintain the rolls for a re-run. If IRC fyhir would loose 1 cha (daze) then 2 cha (no daze) and manifest Animal Affinity per his tactics and then get hit with another 2 Cha (no daze) and finally a 1 cha (no daze) from the original fight. Since I had the time to manifest Animal Affinity instead of being at 0 cha Fyhir would be at 4 cha... but if the 1st ego whip was from 200+ feet I would have moved to the central column dance and evaded 4 ego whips with movement. This should put the total castings of ego whip at 8, so all 6 from stones and 2 from his own PP... and that would blead him dry and leave me with 4 cha left. If u have the time and the inclination it would be great but 2nd pitlord shouldn't have to re-run and re-run. Maybe if I bribed you with a cookie? :cookie: |

(ignorance thereof is what was causing these reruns) Though note that you wanted to move away from Sokai in the first fews rounds, but you had no way of knowing where Sokai was (you could only guess, and the only safe bet would have been to the back of your side the arena, which would have conflicted with your plan of approach) so there was no clear way you could move other than through the center (moving any other way may or may not have brought you closer to him). Also note that, upon sight, Sokai would have hit you with his readied actions before you would have even readied an action to attack/break LOS. (in other words, he acted before you could react). Also, note that in the first run, he cast 3 of the Ego Whips from memory (note how some of the DCs were 15, and not 13), so he actually had one whole stone left. |
| spasheridan03-29-05, 02:38 PM | Yeah, maybe I'm just full of sour grapes! I mean.. how low can you get, hitting a man in the charisma like that? First I'm a burly, rude dwarf. Then I'm an odiferious, annoying dwarf. Then I'm a pocket protector wearing nerd-awkward dwarf. Then I'm a catatonic, wallflower dwarf... And if the saves & damage are maintained based on the source..... OK, I'm not sure how it's supposed to work. Seriuosly, if you are pressed for time let it slide, but if yer bored and have nothing better to do! |

The plan is to be at extreme range for the beggining to avoid getting hit by spells while I buff. Then the plan is to approach and ready shots. Basicly covering myself as I get closer. Then it's either a rush to the center obstacle (if he's sniping me from range) OR it's a rush into HTH if I can get there without being bombarded by spells. Since he's using extended ego whips .... Anywho, that's what the plan was. It aint perfect, and the simple plan (shoot the ugly dwarf in the charisma) was probably the better one. |

Relax, relax, relax... I'll re-re-run it (Since there was a match-altering error on my end) ... but not until tonight, since I am at work right now. But to tell the truth, the way I see it, the fight is rather close. Do not be surprised if it tips either way... (but if it does, I'd rather it due to luck of the dice, rather than bad pitlording) |
| Huan03-29-05, 02:45 PM | The plan is to be at extreme range for the beggining to avoid getting hit by spells while I buff. HTH? |
| T'Var03-29-05, 03:00 PM | HTH? hand to hand probably |
| Captain Mutilate03-29-05, 03:45 PM | A note about my fight: Kaigan: I have 2-weapon fighting, therefore shortspear/unarmed IS a valid choice of attack. Har har. Edit: I see how it could have been confusing. I mean shortspear attack and an unarmed attack. Other then that, no problems. And I won anyways, so I shouldn't be complaining. |

| KerlanRayne03-30-05, 04:46 AM | Just reposting this: @Kaigan: There were a couple of rounds where all I did was ride, but I could have used the Entangle wand (or maybe something else?) with my unused standard action. Also I might have been able to get away with a run action some times. (Up to 300 feet of movement) KerlanRayne PS - I'd just like to know if you've seen this. |
| Huan03-30-05, 11:57 AM | Rerun of Sokai vs Fyhir (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=5796497) is done. Short version: The dice were not with them, it seems, and it turned out rather close (as expected). I am spending extra time on my stories, so they will not be out this week. (they will be worth the wait though) |
| Kaigan03-30-05, 12:00 PM | Well as to run, I would have let you, except you can only run in a straight line, so no 300 ft movement is possible. As to the unused action, yes, I believe you are right. I could have made you use your wand some more, however you would have wasted one round of drawing it, so yes, you had 3 more rounds to use it while moving around. But if anything, you would have targeted the centipedes that Damon was casting, and in the fight the centipedes did absolutely nothing to you anyways. |

I mean.. but.. *sputter* THanks for running the fight! I'm guessing that Fyhir had way to much to drink before this one. :D |

| Huan03-30-05, 03:50 PM | All I have to say is that whenever he gets finished, that is going to be one HELL of a story... I intend it to be :D (if nothing else, I've owed that quality of story to the two of you for a couple of weeks now. I hope it pleases you both.) |
