| Snommelp02-09-05, 05:44 PM | Is it too late to edit sheets? Because I just realized that I still didn't fix Snomm's crossbow attack modifier. |
| Sindorin02-09-05, 05:47 PM | "Well then, kid, yer just in time fer da St. Valentine's Day Massacre! Yahahahaha!!! *Starts shooting aimlessly* I would recommend letting the pitlord know the correction in your tactics. |
| Snommelp02-09-05, 05:49 PM | Sindorin's gone mad! Good thing I took Deflect Arrows... |
| Aramil Dunskar02-09-05, 06:51 PM | Your'e killin me smalls... HAHAHAHA I love that movie  Anyways, I just got done editing my character due to the my fight just being done, and a nice job Snommelp btw, so if this means that I won't fight for the week, oh well, if not then I look forward to the level 4 matches. :D -Aramil |

Thank you very much guys for enrichening the World of Gladius!! Credits for more than 2 active characters: -2: Kaigan, Snarkhunter -1: Beldin, LLMadCow, T'Var Credits for participating in Quests: -1: LLMadCow, Huan, Snommelp, T'Var Credit changes: +5: Caterane +4: Ashenai +3: Naerdaloth, T'Var, Jindl +2: Ayatoshi, SnarkHunter, Huan +1: Cellardweller, Pittbull, Sindorin, OWA, Einzelgaenger, Arstimis, Odin +0: Kaigan, Beldin -1: LLMadCow, Snommelp Some Notes Since there are no newbies this week I don't have to repeat the procedure. Please run fights early so that there is enough time to correct any mistakes. We had just enough pitlords to run all fights. One fight more and we would have seen the first [...out (no pitlord)] sign. You see, we can definately use new pitlords. Beldin is finally moderating again. Thanks! We have a new Elder: Pittbull. I am sure the CoCo will greatly benefit from this addition. Unfortunately, he took Magagumo's place who told me that he won't come back anytime soon. He said he will make a last post soon. And a final word... there were some hot debates last week because of mistakes in the fights, or misunderstandings between a player and a pitlord. I can tell you one thing: mistakes will always be made, and these weren't the last misunderstandings we've seen in the CoCo. But you should always be aware that both sides - pitlord and player - spend time and energy on their work. No one - and this is important - no one makes mistakes on purpose! If you are not satisfied with something, that's why we have a comments thread; most of the time both sides could agree on a good solution; or the fight will be rerun. But even if not...even if there is still something that is not to your liking, it doesn't mean the end of the world. That's something I learned from Magagumo who always stayed cool no matter what happened to his character. I think we can all take him as a shining example on how to handle afterfight discussions. And with these words I want to go over to: Pairings Done! (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=5179877#post5179877) Have fun, stay Mag  Cat Edit: For all ECL 4 pitlords, please check DMG p38 for XP and p51 for gold prizes. It's both 1200 each. |

| Caterane02-09-05, 09:31 PM | @Arty: there's a reason why you got 2x Jindl. If he can't run the fight to your satisfaction, we just can't help you ;) |
| Pitlords02-09-05, 09:53 PM | Supplemental: 1 additional credit for Huan (Story), see my last post above, and as always the forgotten credit for Jindl's great campaign. ECL 4 fights are worth 1200 gold and xp for the winner, and 1/3 for the loser. @OWA: That's 400 each :P |

| Pitlords02-10-05, 06:45 AM | I would add this pairing to the Roster but there are no pitlords left. If anyone is willing to take over the Necavi vs Zubair fight, I will pair you guys. |
| Pitlords02-10-05, 06:54 AM | Tactics have been recieved for both parties involved in the debacle I am running this week. Tactics for Va'ria and Sokai have both been sent to Caterane. Hmm. Caterane, with both of my fights??? CONSPIRACY!!! :) No, I am not your pitlord. T'Var is. I have forwarded them to T'Var per email. Ever heard of the Mo Syndrome? |

| LLMadCow02-10-05, 07:41 AM | I would add this pairing to the Roster but there are no pitlords left. If anyone is willing to take over the Necavi vs Zubair fight, I will pair you guys. :D |
| cellardweller02-10-05, 08:16 AM | Not sure if that was LL voulenteering, but if not, I will run it. I'm supposed to be painting my bathroom this weekend, but I can probably run it if you don't mind me doing so while high on fumes. Caveat: I reserve the right to post the fight on Tuesday night, my time (about 3-4 hours after the deadline). Initiative: Necavi 4+X Zubair 18+X |
| LLMadCow02-10-05, 08:35 AM | Not sure if that was LL voulenteering, but if not, I will run it. That was me volunteering, but I was a bad boy and am still on restriction for another week. So, it's up to the powers that be. |
| Huan02-10-05, 11:00 AM | Initiative (http://krisinchico.brinkster.net/searchroll.asp?username=Indri_vs_Brandt) : Indri'ynar Per-El'ereth: 23 Brandt Cadman: 11 Initiative (http://krisinchico.brinkster.net/searchroll.asp?username=Ikari_vs_Elishar ): Ikari Yui: 9 Elishar: 17 |
| Dalton Onestone02-10-05, 11:07 AM | @Cat -- I Yahoo IMed you a couple of rules questions. I'll try to get in tactics promptly after you have a chance to answer those, for Kwerrock's and GrandElf's fights. |
| Pitlords02-10-05, 11:17 AM | Necavi Omnes (Xanadu) vs Zubair Suhaim (KerlanRayne): Cellardweller has been added to the Roster. Cellardweller +1 credits Brian, you've to sit out this week |
| Sindorin02-10-05, 12:42 PM | No, I am not your pitlord. T'Var is. I have forwarded them to T'Var per email. Ever heard of the Mo Syndrome? Nope, what is that exaclty? Thanks for forwarding them, I have no idea what happened. |
| Caterane02-10-05, 01:57 PM | @Cat -- I Yahoo IMed you a couple of rules questions. I'll try to get in tactics promptly after you have a chance to answer those, for Kwerrock's and GrandElf's fights. I have accidently deleted them. Please send me an email so that we can discuss it. |
| Jindl02-10-05, 02:24 PM | Nope, what is that exaclty? Thanks for forwarding them, I have no idea what happened. Mo was infamous for sending his tactics to his opponent instead of to his pitlord. |
| Huan02-10-05, 04:52 PM | @Caterane Tactics for Indri'ynar Per-El'ereth recieved, thank you. Now, if I can get some tactics for Brandt Cadman (MadCowTemplate) and Ikari Yui (Ayatoshi), I can get a fight going. ;) |
| Snommelp02-10-05, 04:59 PM | Anyways, I just got done editing my character due to the my fight just being done, and a nice job Snommelp btw, so if this means that I won't fight for the week, oh well, if not then I look forward to the level 4 matches. Since your character didn't have a chance to be readied this week, I have a chance to roll the AoO that I apparently missed, if either you or McTemplate want me to do so. For Grakk, it could save him the two arrows, and for Lora it could save her a vial of Alchemist's Fire. So do either of you want me to roll the AoO? |
| Beldin02-10-05, 05:16 PM | All tactics received. Mine will be sent later tommorow. |
| Solmund02-10-05, 05:32 PM | chacter fixed, i edited the gp and all else that was wrong. |

| Jindl02-10-05, 08:12 PM | @T'Var - Tactics pm'd for JotHF. Please read them over and let me know if there are any questions/issues. |
| xanadu02-10-05, 08:13 PM | Not sure if that was LL voulenteering, but if not, I will run it. I'm supposed to be painting my bathroom this weekend, but I can probably run it if you don't mind me doing so while high on fumes. Caveat: I reserve the right to post the fight on Tuesday night, my time (about 3-4 hours after the deadline). Initiative: Necavi 4+X Zubair 18+X Thanks Cellardweller! Don't balme me about the bathroom if the wife/girlfriend/mother in law starts complaining :P |
| Jindl02-10-05, 08:19 PM | @Ash - Would you roll init for the Elder vs Moon-moon? It would help a bunch for writing tactics. -Jindl |
| Sindorin02-10-05, 09:00 PM | Mo was infamous for sending his tactics to his opponent instead of to his pitlord. Well, I can rest easy then because I didn't send them to you. Wait, did I? :) |
| Ayatoshi02-10-05, 09:38 PM | Waiting for tactics from all my parties involed please pm if already e-mailed please copy to pm I will confirm reception All my tactics are sent |

| One_Winged_Angel02-10-05, 10:47 PM | Waiting for tactics from all my parties involed please pm if already e-mailed please copy to pm I will confirm reception All my tactics are sent Ah, good. I was thinking Aureus was going to be dull to face. This now presents a challange. |
| Naerdaloth02-10-05, 11:34 PM | @Ayatoshi: Still deciding on Naerdaloth's tactics.. i'll PM you them tomorrow @Kaigan: No tactics have been recieved for Rayos yet. I will probably run tomorrow if I'm able then, otherwise Sunday at latest please |
| Dalton Onestone02-10-05, 11:40 PM | chacter fixed, i edited the gp and all else that was wrong. If the character was fighting this week, editing this late in the character thread is a big fat no-no. |
| Snommelp02-10-05, 11:42 PM | If the character was fighting this week, editing this late in the character thread is a big fat no-no. Huh... that's strange... how did a Red Violation get paired? I thought there were laws against that. |
| Dalton Onestone02-11-05, 06:03 AM | Tactics for Kwerrock and GrandElf emailed to Cat. |
| Caterane02-11-05, 11:26 AM | Negative. I didn't get them. |
| Arstimis02-11-05, 11:41 AM | Tactics recieved from Boraxx (Pittbull) NO tactics recieved from Akhenabi Silberfeuer (Beldin) yet |
| Kaigan02-11-05, 12:04 PM | Tactics received from: Pittbull: for Korn Zepher: for Kiyo Khaz_gu: for Suggang Tactics not received from: Vivad Grendel: for Zeem Tactics sent: to Jindl for Aeluath Dryearraheal via PM other tactics will be sent in the next couple of hours. |
| Jindl02-11-05, 12:09 PM | @Kaigan - Tactics received. (Whatever posessed you to create that pc's name?) |
| Kaigan02-11-05, 12:17 PM | Tactics for Tianis have been sent to T'Var via PM. @Jindl: Well I was bored one day, when I made the character so I thought I would use an online elven name generator. Well if you google elven names, there is a site that gives table for you to roll a d100 on with prefixes and suffixes and family names. Well I basically just chose random things. Lol, but call him Aeiou for short. |
| Kaigan02-11-05, 12:26 PM | Tactics for Risal have been sent to Naerdaloth via PM Tacitcs for Rayos will be sent in a couple of hours, but now, I have physics, and I really hate physics, who cares about electromagnetic fields. They aren't really important. |
| T'Var02-11-05, 12:31 PM | Tactics for Tianis have been sent to T'Var via PM. @Jindl: Well I was bored one day, when I made the character so I thought I would use an online elven name generator. Well if you google elven names, there is a site that gives table for you to roll a d100 on with prefixes and suffixes and family names. Well I basically just chose random things. Lol, but call him Aeiou for short. thats almost as sad as Ash's l33t Speak translator |
| Pittbull02-11-05, 12:42 PM | Boraxx's and KoRn's tactic has been sent to their pitlords. |
| Naerdaloth02-11-05, 01:12 PM | @Kaigan, tactics recieved. I will run it sometime today |
| Kaigan02-11-05, 02:21 PM | Sent tactics for Rayos to SnarkHunter via PM |
| Dalton Onestone02-11-05, 02:40 PM | Negative. I didn't get them. Please PM me the email address. I really thought I reconsistuted the posted one correctly. |
| Sindorin02-11-05, 03:10 PM | Evram The Soulless vs. Rook "Chaotic Phoenix" Devange (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=5435011&postcount=1268) is up. Anyone who plays any kind of summoner may want to give it a look. For some reason, I feel rather... generous. |
| T'Var02-11-05, 03:12 PM | Astral constructs are not summoned; they are created on the plane you inhabit (using ectoplasm drawn from the Astral Plane). Thus, they are not subject to effects that hedge out or otherwise affect outsiders; they are constructs, not outsiders. need to re-run that whole fight |
| Sindorin02-11-05, 03:15 PM | k, thanks. I thought they were considered summoned since they would have a duration. I'll get it fixed. |
| Huan02-11-05, 03:25 PM | @Sindorin Also, Energy Ray does not allow a save... much less a Reflex for half. |
| T'Var02-11-05, 03:29 PM | Tactics have: Tianis (Kaigan) Alexis Theladrais (Nanaleigh) Jindl of the High Forest (Jindl) Sokai Calanis (Sindorin) Derth (Vipergtsmk) Aloran Windseer (One_Winged_Angel) dont have: Emad Chagar (MysticMonk2005) Inihe Rotblume (Beldin) |
| Sindorin02-11-05, 03:31 PM | That's interesting because I have seen fights with saves given for it. Hum. Anyway, I am going to rerun that thing. Sorry about my ignorance. |
| Ayatoshi02-11-05, 03:31 PM | @T'Var: Recieved tactics for klaxon... |
| Jindl02-11-05, 03:34 PM | That's interesting because I have seen fights with saves given for it. Hum. Anyway, I am going to rerun that thing. Sorry about my ignorance. There are like 14 different "Energy" powers. Most require saves (Energy Stun, Energy Bolt, Energy Retort, etc.) Energy Ray is the only Level 1 "Energy" power, and AFAIK, its the only one that doesn't allow a save. |
| Sindorin02-11-05, 03:38 PM | yeah, complete ignorance on my part, i should have looked it up. |
| Naerdaloth02-11-05, 03:45 PM | Tactics for Naerdaloth PMd to Ayatoshi (sent from TaggIIV account) |
| Kaigan02-11-05, 03:48 PM | Still haven't received tactics from vivad grendel. I will wait till sunday. I get to go skiing tomorrow, yay, at whistler. So I will have no time to do fights till sunday, so fights will be up, with stories on sunday afternoon. Have a good weekend everyone. |
| Sindorin02-11-05, 05:05 PM | Evram The Soulless vs. Rook "Chaotic Phoenix" Devange (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=5435011&postcount=1268) is up. Anyone who plays any kind of summoner may want to give it a look. For some reason, I feel rather... generous. I don't feel so generous anymore. I reran the fight. Anyone who plays or plans on playing a summoner STILL may want to give it a look. |
| T'Var02-11-05, 05:07 PM | I don't feel so generous anymore. I reran the fight. Anyone who plays or plans on playing a summoner STILL may want to give it a look. see, thats what you get for trying to be a good guy |
| Sindorin02-11-05, 05:14 PM | The way things were going with the disruptions and all, I was sure Rook was going to stomp Evram... good thing Evram had a nice plan B! |
| T'Var02-11-05, 05:16 PM | Round 6: Evram’s horse charges at Rook. During the charge, Evram manifests a 4pp 2x Overchannelled Fire Energy Ray at Rook (Ranged Touch: 12+4 vs TAC 13, success, 2d8: 6+7=13 damage to Evram, 6d6+6: 6+5+4+2+1+3+6= 27 damage). this attack missed. since he was charging, which is a double move he suffered a -4 to all ranged attacks. 12+4-4=12 vs TAC 13 so Evram still takes the overchannelled dmg but deals no damage to Rook EDIT: **takes preemptive measurers to duck and dodge any attacks made by Sindorin** |
| Sindorin02-11-05, 05:26 PM | this attack missed. since he was charging, which is a double move he suffered a -4 to all ranged attacks. 12+4-4=12 vs TAC 13 so Evram still takes the overchannelled dmg but deals no damage to Rook EDIT: **takes preemptive measurers to duck and dodge any attacks made by Sindorin** hmm... that could be bad... I probably shouldn't have even done the charge. Don't worry about it, I am glad someone is helping me get everything right. EDIT: mistake fixed after miswording. |
| Jindl02-13-05, 01:23 AM | @Ash - Tactics PM'd for the Elder (since the boards finally came back online). |

| One_Winged_Angel02-13-05, 04:54 PM | All tactics recieved. Fate willing, fight will be up tommorrow |
| SnarkHunter02-13-05, 04:57 PM | Tactics recieved. Fight might still be late (like Tuesday or so) though, especially if I ever decide to do my homework. Oh and Sin I think I could of used Evrams Focus for that 8pt attack to take 15 on the concentration check. Not that it would of made a difference but it would have been nice. |
| Einzelgaenger02-13-05, 05:03 PM | Tactics recieved by both parties, fight may be up tonight. |
| Arstimis02-13-05, 05:13 PM | all tactics have been sent. Sorry that these are that late. Tactics just recieved. All tactics recieved, fight up tomorrow |
| Beldin02-13-05, 05:14 PM | @Arstimis: resent looks like I sent them someone else :( |
| Arstimis02-13-05, 05:21 PM | @Arstimis: resent looks like I sent them someone else :( Yep, i got them the second time..... better not have sent them to your opponent :P |
| T'Var02-13-05, 06:58 PM | given the boards have been down virtually all weekend I would suggjest an extention to the deadline this week |
| Snommelp02-13-05, 07:01 PM | given the boards have been down virtually all weekend I would suggjest an extention to the deadline this week Check the tavern thread. Cat's already made a proclamation concerning the deadline. It was the coveted thousandth post, too. |
| OdinTheReaper02-13-05, 07:24 PM | @piuro: Tactics not recieved..i regret to inform you that i am going to start running the fight. Sorry man but you had plenty of time before the boards were down. @piuro and Snommelp: Will start running the fight tonight..hopefully they will be up by later on tonight but most likely will be posted tommorrow sometime due to the delay of the boards and the wait on piuro's non sending of his tactics. |

| Dalton Onestone02-13-05, 08:07 PM | Amazing. Not only did GrandElf win, but he expended NOTHING. Just an amazing, screwy fight. Or as my parents would have put it: Erstens geht's anders, zweitens wei man denkt. EDIT: I checked. GrandElf's horse Alberich did more damage with a single hoof blow (9) than he and GrandElf each took from an unsaved 5d6 fireball (8). Screwy indeed. |
| Sindorin02-13-05, 10:51 PM | I have no idea why Va'ria lost that fight... Round 1: Grandelf rides forward just north to the central pillar and casts protection from evil [Concentration (4+6) = 10 vs Dc16, fails] but the gallopping horse makes it difficult to cast spells. Varia rides downward and looks for her enemy, spotting him between the central pillar. Unlike Grandelf she is not bothered by the horse' movement [Concentration: (20!), ok] and quickly reads the arcane symbols [CL check (15+3) = 18 vs Dc6, ok] which she successfully deciphers. The red bead easily detonates with Grandelf in its area [Fireball (5d6) = 8; Grandelf Reflex (3+4) = 7 vs Dc14, fails; Horse reflex (1!), fails; Fogwing (9+5) = 14 vs Dc14, success; improved evasion] and both rider and horse barely survive the blast. The familiar remains unscathed. Grandelf (-2/0), 4/12 hp; mounted, psionically focused Alberich (-2/0), 22/30 hp Varia Th (5/10), 9/9 hp; mounted Round 2: Grandelf knew that a single magic missile would kill but so does a fireball. His only hope is going to attack. He rides up to Varia and casts Hideous laughter on her [Varia: will (19+5) = 24 vs Dc17, success]. Varia shakes the spell off and retaliates with a magic missile set [MM (2d4+2) = 8; Stay in saddle (75%) = 23%, ok]. Satisfied, Varia rides away behind cover. Grandelf doesn't stabilize [35%, fails]. Grandelf (2/5), -5/12 hp; mounted, psionically focused, dying Alberich (2/5), 22/30 hp Varia Th (3/19), 9/9 hp; mounted As you see, at the end of round two GrandElf is in negatives. I am at full hp. The fight is over right there. I didn't know we had to write tactics for AFTER THE OPPONENT IS UNCONCIOUS. |

I didn't know we had to write tactics for AFTER THE OPPONENT IS UNCONCIOUS. You'd think so, but apparently when there are allies involved, you fight either to the death or until your opponent and his/her ally are both out cold. | Sindorin02-13-05, 11:03 PM | You'd think so, but apparently when there are allies involved, you fight either to the death or until your opponent and his/her ally are both out cold. Makes allies pretty darn powerful, if you ask me... Yeah, I do realize that allies are powerful and sometimes the dice do not work properly. I don't want Cat using that fight just to make his point about horses/allies needing to be nerfed. I have seen fights end when there are all kinds of allies present (like my cohort for example) and once my main gladiator went down it was all over. I don't care if I get a violation, I am writing that one as a win because in my book I did what I wanted done. I won that fight unless you show in Dalton's tactics where he said "if GrandElf goes down, horse will attack and win." |
| cellardweller02-13-05, 11:16 PM | CoCo fights have always been to the death. If you have been declared the loser when only being unconscious in the past, it has been those fights that were in error, not this one. He doesn't need to write "horse will attack" in his tactics as all warhorses know the defend trick which kicks in automatically. |
| Sindorin02-13-05, 11:19 PM | Yeah I guess. It's just that all Va'ria had to do after GrandElf went down was drink her potion of Hide from Animals and get away, and then perhaps she could have dealt with that horse properly. It should have been so easy for her to just finish off the unconcious guy that was on the horse that was attacking. I'll just write it in next time. |
| Dalton Onestone02-13-05, 11:25 PM | I challenged Cat on the same point, although in my phrasing I wasn't disputing the outcome, but rather said there SHOULD be a rule that if you go to negative HP, the match is over. He cited the Autohypnosis skill as an example of why that might be a bad idea. He also cited the Die Hard feat, although I forget where that's from (it doesn't seem to be core). Also, I'm sure you're right that most bouts end as soon as one gladiator goes negative on HP. Indeed, I forgot about that issue in my own tactics, figuring that anything which got Va'ria's 9 measly HP down to 0 was a win for me. On the other hand, I'm also sure that not ALL fights I've seen have been ended the same way. For example, I remember one in which the Pitlord wrote "Well, only the horse is left, and there's no way it will win, so I'll just stop running the fight here." It's probably an issue the elders should discuss for a possible rule change. As for recording what you believe to be an injustice on your character sheet without technically going into violation, you might want to do what I did after Kwerrock was robbed last week, and say things about a bout called a loss, rather than a loss, and so on. Tough luck, guy. I wouldn't be pleased if I were in your shoes. But then, we might not be having this discussion if: 1. Your Fireball hadn't had weirdly low damage. (5d8 = 8 points??) 2. Va'ria hadn't made her DC 17 Will save 3. GrandElf hadn't stabilized. and so on. There was a lot of weird luck in that bout, most of it bad for you, but some of it to your benefit. |
| Dalton Onestone02-13-05, 11:28 PM | I'll just write it in next time. Your tactics were definitely too short. However, I made sure that the total volume of tactics submitted for the bout was more than enough. ;) Even so, most of my lengthy tactics assumed Va'ria would stay back and buff for a couple of rounds, rather than force the action. You surprised me. |
| Sindorin02-13-05, 11:29 PM | I just don't understand what those 7 odd rounds after GrandElf went unconcious were all about. All she had to do was finish your guy off. I didn't write tactics because I didn't believe it was necessary. Naturally, I get made to look like an idiot. |

| Snommelp02-14-05, 01:24 AM | Actually, I have a question about Varia vs. GrandElf. In round 3, would Varia's horse have attacked something? After all, an enemy horse just rushed in at it. It might or might not change the fight, but it's something that's bothering me. EDIT: and, to add more confusion to the debate, would GrandElf's horse have charged, or chosen to defend GrandElf in a noble retreat instead? |
| Dalton Onestone02-14-05, 02:10 AM | Actually, I have a question about Varia vs. On the first point, Va'ria was still conscious Round 3, and so her explicit views prevailed over the horse's own choice of tactics. And while it may have been a better tactic for her to dismount and order her horse to attack GrandElf, that's not totally clear because her Handle Animal skill makes it far from automatic that her horse would have obeyed. In any case, 5 ft. step back precludes the horse from returning and meleeing later in the round. On the second point, I've encouraged a lot of discussion recently, and the consensus seems to be that if there's an obvious target, the horse fights rather than withdrawing, due to the Defend trick. I think if I were pitlording I'd rule much as Cat did -- even an INT 2 horse can connect the visual display of a magic missile to the attacker. |
| Kaigan02-14-05, 02:15 AM | Okay, Korn vs. Kiyo is up. There are some major mistakes with Kiyo's character. I suggest that Cat and Zepher both take a look at the violations thread. Well actually it's just one major mistake. |
| Snommelp02-14-05, 02:17 AM | On the second point, I've encouraged a lot of discussion recently, and the consensus seems to be that if there's an obvious target, the horse fights rather than withdrawing, due to the Defend trick. I think if I were pitlording I'd rule much as Cat did -- even an INT 2 horse can connect the visual display of a magic missile to the attacker. In this instance we must decide what is meant by the word defend. After all, the defend trick merely says that "[t]he animal defends you (or is ready to defend you if no threat is present), even without any command being given." It seems that the general consensus is that the word defend means attack any opponents who attempt harm, and this is a fine definition for animals like dogs and wolves. However, when the animal is a mount shouldn't we rethink the word defend a little bit? After all, taking your unconscious master nearer to the danger seems hardly a defensive act. |
| Dalton Onestone02-14-05, 02:27 AM | After all, taking your unconscious master nearer to the danger seems hardly a defensive act. I was initially very much of that opinion. But as of now I'm just confused. Sometimes running away is the best tactic; sometimes attacking is the best tactic; no way the horse can tell the difference. You might want to read some of the considerable recent discussion on the subject if you haven't already. |
| Snommelp02-14-05, 02:41 AM | Yes, I remember that discussion. Hadn't thought we had reached a conclusion. Maybe I missed something, or maybe our weak cries were ignored by the elders... who knows? I just think it's logical that if your horse knows that you're unconscious, it should protect you by taking you away from the man making all of the hurting shiny stuff. Then again, I'm not a war-trained horse. |

(1)Force-screen gives a shield bonus of +4 which replaces(does not stack) his mundane shield-bonus. (2)Jep, you're right, I forgot his riding-skill I'll roll and fix that. | Dalton Onestone02-14-05, 12:14 PM | Kwerrock vs Odin (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=5441862#post5441862). The online roller really really really hated one of the two. Seems fine to me! ;) Seriously, that's the fight I "should" have won, with normal luck. GrandElf's fight, on the other hand, was an amazing fluke ... What I don't wholly understand, Cat, is the core sequence of moves. It seems to me it would go: K1. Kwerrock single moves on his horse into range and casts Hold Person. Odin fails his save. O1. Odin fails a retry on the save. H1. Odin's horse does nothing but worry. K2. Kwerrock single moves on his horse to base Odin, and draws his weapon. While he could make a normal attack here and/or direct his horse to make a normal attack, he doesn't, so as not to inspire Odin's horse to counterattack. O2. Odin fails another retry on the save. H2. Odin's horse still does nothing except worry. K3. Kwerrock CdGs Odin. Odin's horse gets a single AoO during the CdG. The End I don't see where Odin's horse got the second (first?) AoO from. All that said, Hold Person isn't looking like quite the autowin I thought it was against a mounted opponent. I may tweak my tactics before the next similar bout. Anyhow -- as always, thanks for pitlording and thanks for your precise explanations!! |

| Dalton Onestone02-14-05, 12:19 PM | A warhorse will try to fight if its rider is down, a normal horse will run. Some of the subtle issues are: Q1. Does the warhorse know how the rider got down, if it was via a spell? Q2. If the horse doesn't know how the rider got down, does it run away like a nonwarhorse, or does it stand around waiting for something to show up that it can fight? Based on how Cat ran my two fights this week, it's evident his answers are: A1. It depends. For example, Magic Missile leaves obvious visual clues, which the horse can recognize, while Hold Person does not and is not a spell the horse recognizes. A2. It stands around until somebody proves themselves to be a threat via an attack it can recognize. |
| OdinTheReaper02-14-05, 03:11 PM | Snommelp "The Waist High Fist" vs Fenir Ahea is up. Man two natural 20's...why cant my guy get that kind of luck? lol. |
| Snommelp02-14-05, 05:11 PM | I see but one problem with the fight, Odin, and that is that Snomm used a crossbow bolt, but in the end-of-fight summary is listed as using nothing. It's not anything major, in fact it's probably not worth noting at all, unless Snomm uses all of his bolts in a later fight and someone catches that he had one too many. EDIT: Just noticed something else. I'm not sure how the charge damage adds up to 16. Am I missing something? |
| One_Winged_Angel02-14-05, 05:22 PM | Some of the subtle issues are: Q1. Does the warhorse know how the rider got down, if it was via a spell? Rider suddenly slups foreward in saddle, not moving. I think the horse knows something is up. Q2. If the horse doesn't know how the rider got down, does it run away like a nonwarhorse, or does it stand around waiting for something to show up that it can fight? Both? Waits until it spots something, then charges? Based on how Cat ran my two fights this week, it's evident his answers are: A1. It depends. For example, Magic Missile leaves obvious visual clues, which the horse can recognize, while Hold Person does not and is not a spell the horse recognizes. I agree with this. If the horse is able to see the spell, then ya. However, if the horse is in battle and its rider is not directing it, I think a warhorse would charge if it has the "attack" trick. If not, then it might not. A2. It stands around until somebody proves themselves to be a threat via an attack it can recognize. I think that that's accurate. |
| Dalton Onestone02-14-05, 05:30 PM | However, if the horse is in battle and its rider is not directing it, I think a warhorse would charge if it has the "attack" trick. If not, then it might not. To make that case, you have to argue that charging is part of the Defend trick. But since Defend means "Attacking my rider's enemies to keep them from hurting him," that's not a hard argument to win. |
| OdinTheReaper02-14-05, 05:31 PM | Okay i will edit in the bolt used. I had 16 damage because you hit for 8 but critted and confirmed for x2, therefore 8*2 = 16. Unarmed damage (including that from charging) has a critical of x2 (says the equipment page in the SRD). EDIT: Crap wait ur right im stupid. My math is bad. Let me rerun from the point where he/she has 1 hp left then. |
| One_Winged_Angel02-14-05, 05:36 PM | To make that case, you have to argue that charging is part of the Defend trick. But since Defend means "Attacking my rider's enemies to keep them from hurting him," that's not a hard argument to win. Meh. I dunno. I don't use horses in the arena very often and never use them in Real Life camps. except for transit. On a whole, I think they're overrated. There was this one time I played a female paladin with a unicorn though. Now that was fun. :) |
| Snommelp02-14-05, 05:38 PM | @ Dalton: according to Dictionary.com (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=defend), "defend" is defined as to make or keep safe from danger, attack, or harm. This apparently isn't the CoCo definition, though, so I'm at a loss. @ Odin: As far as I know, x2 means that you roll the damage dice twice on a critical. If I'm wrong, that's something someone needs to tell me before my two-week suspension ends. Also, I'm not sure how you got the base damage of 8. Snomm deals 1d4+2, so even on a maximized roll he'd only deal 6 damage (12 doubled). EDIT: Ok, you caught it then. No worries, mate. |
| Dalton Onestone02-14-05, 05:47 PM | @ Dalton: according to Dictionary.com (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=defend), "defend" is defined as to make or keep safe from danger, attack, or harm. This apparently isn't the CoCo definition, though, so I'm at a loss. That must be why Donald Rumsfeld's job title is "Secretary of Invasion", not "Secretrary of Defense." Oh wait ... |
| Snommelp02-14-05, 05:51 PM | I don't come up with this stuff, I just tell it like it is. |
| Sindorin02-14-05, 05:52 PM | Might want to stay on-topic here... |
| OdinTheReaper02-14-05, 06:05 PM | @Snommelp and Piuro (if still alive): okay i reran the fight...nothing exciting..it just delayed the inevitable i mean with Fenir only having 1 hp remaining. I'm glad you pointed that out however, cause i completely looked over it. |
| Dalton Onestone02-14-05, 06:08 PM | I was staying on topic. I was pointing out that common usage of "Defense" is in line with how people are interpreting "Defend" around here. I also think that's pretty much the only interpretation, given how the rules are written. If you look up "invasion" in the dictionary, I'm sure you'll find that such widely approved actions as the D-Day landings, the British reconquest of the Falklands, and the US takeover of Afghanistan are technically invasions. Which just goes to show that actual meaning in use and dictionary definitions aren't perfectly aligned with each other. |
| Snommelp02-14-05, 06:13 PM | @ Odin: thanks, and no worries! @ Dalton: Yes, I'd say that the Normandy Invasion was an Invasion. The dictionary is, IMHO, a very reliable source as to the meanings of words, both for their original meanings and the more common meanings of today. Dictionary definitions change over time, and an internet dictionary can change with the times even better than a printed dictionary. |
| One_Winged_Angel02-14-05, 09:28 PM | Argh. My comp hates me. I had the fight going for Rose and Hakatri, and then my comp gets corrupted data and deletes anything I've made in the past day or so. | Kaigan02-15-05, 02:58 AM | @T'Var: i had a question for Tianis vs Inhine fight. You had him spot me right off the bat. I don't think he should have been able to do that. Look at previous fight's of the week threads for the discussion. He would hav ehad to make a spot check to spot me. Also I said to hide behind which ever cover I was at. He would have had to make a spot chekc to find me, even if he knew where I had gone. |
| Dalton Onestone02-15-05, 03:19 AM |  ... Rose is supposed to be a girl... In that case -- and this is just a thought -- you might want to edit the second line of Rose's character sheet, specifically the part that reads "Gender: Male" |
| Pitlords02-15-05, 04:16 AM | Ok, I now have the correct xp and gold prizes for the Korn vs Kiyo fight. He should have only done 2d6 +4 DAMAGE i don't understand. Its a Large greatsword, it deals 3d6 naturally. Its twohanded so it applies Str x1.5, for a final result of 3d6+6. He just happened to roll all 6s. |

| Jindl02-15-05, 01:16 PM | @cellar - You need to roll a reflex save for Eule (the familiar). There are penalties for the death of a familiar.:( On second look, it may not be necessary. Eule has 5 hps and improved evasion. So unless he failed the reflex save and the breath weapon did 30+ pts of damage, he could still be saved by the arena healers before he reached -10 hps. Still, you've got to be careful when using familiars in battle. Should your familiar die, you're going to be losing some substantial xp. Uhme would have lost either 400 or 800 xp if Eule had died (depending on his Fort save). A character could even drop a level from the death of a familiar... |

We're nixing rules on resurrection. Of course we can nix one more rule in a similar way. |
| Snommelp02-15-05, 04:58 PM | We can't just suddenly start nixing core rules... We already did, with the free ressurections given by the Nimbus. I agree, though, that we need to put serious thought into the matter before we change the rules. And the very first thing that needs to be thought of: is it worth it? Is the change significant enough to even merit discussion? Of course, this discussion should probably be continued in the Tavern. |

I know Sindorin offered his help aswell. Re Familiars: Ash and I are also torn on this topic. I'd like to see no penalty or little drawbacks, Ash is convinced that familiar deaths should be punished. Perhaps the Elders should give their 2 cp. |

Perhaps the Elders should give their 2 cp. While this is a little contrived, I think it would be fair to have some sort of in=bout disadvantage if a famiilar is killed, like the old system shock rolls. But there be no lingering penality, since there isn't a lingering penalty to anything else. |
| Naerdaloth02-15-05, 05:53 PM | I say we apply the 1/3 rule to familiars. ..It seems inherent to all things caster. |
| One_Winged_Angel02-15-05, 05:59 PM | I say we do the old 2nd Edition/AD&D rules. Familiar dies, master dies. |
| cellardweller02-15-05, 06:30 PM | Eule's reflex save "18"+whatever. I am extremely opposed to any rule that promotes "damaging" an opponent's gladiator. Familiar hunting is not a good thing. Normal rules should apply for quests though. |
| Arstimis02-15-05, 06:44 PM | Akhenabi vs Boraxx (http://krisinchico.brinkster.net/searchroll.asp?username=Akhenabi_vs_Bora xx) is up Sorry, I would have had it done last night, but my Internet provider decided last night was a good night to do maintainance |
| Ayatoshi02-15-05, 08:13 PM | I might be able to post my fights tonight but definetly by tomorrow night...pit for a musica; from 3-9 every night |

Normal rules should apply for quests though. You have a point; this is one of the reasons horses ressurect, right? Because we wanted to avoid horse hunters? It's the same situation with familiars, even though the ressurect. In fact, one might argue that since the Nimbus ressurects the familiars, it's simply mean-spirited to assume that the mage still loses the XP. |
| Jindl02-15-05, 08:56 PM | Britknee (Arstimis) vs Aeluath Dryearraheal (Kaigan) is posted. |
| OdinTheReaper02-15-05, 09:18 PM | Question: @Cat: How did Odin get from 39/39 hp to -10, when he only CDG me for 35 damage? |
| Sindorin02-15-05, 09:35 PM | The victim of a CDG has to succeed on a Fort save DC 10+damage dealt or die. That's why it killed you. |
| OdinTheReaper02-15-05, 09:47 PM | oh wow...................................cr ap |
| Dalton Onestone02-15-05, 11:11 PM | oh wow...................................cr ap Yeah. 45 was a tough save DC. This is a big reason why Sleep and Hold Person are such powerful spells. |
| Sindorin02-15-05, 11:27 PM | It's fun though when characters miraculously succeed on a DC 63 Fort save... Yay nat 20's... |
| OdinTheReaper02-15-05, 11:39 PM | true, but at the unlucky rate that Odin is going he'll never save....j/k im sure this next fight will be a little more evened out and hopefully not one sided....Its all about the roll of the dice.....as i quote Huan's signature. "We live by the dice, we die by the dice." |
| Snommelp02-15-05, 11:43 PM | It's fun though when characters miraculously succeed on a DC 63 Fort save... Yay nat 20's... Correct me if I am mistaken, but aren't natural twenties only automatic successes on attack rolls? |
| OdinTheReaper02-15-05, 11:44 PM | @pitlords: So are the editing deadlines tommorrow or the next day or do you know yet? Also is the TIME for the deadline at 3:00pm? I just wanted to make sure that was right. Thanks |
| Sindorin02-15-05, 11:54 PM | Correct me if I am mistaken, but aren't natural twenties only automatic successes on attack rolls? That's exactly my point! |
| Snommelp02-15-05, 11:58 PM | That's exactly my point! wait... but... that means... :OMG! |
| OdinTheReaper02-16-05, 12:07 AM | you both lost me  |
| Jindl02-16-05, 12:17 AM | Attack rolls and Saving throws are both subject to critical success and critical failure (nat 1's and nat 20's). |
| Snommelp02-16-05, 12:21 AM | Attack rolls and Saving throws are both subject to critical success and critical failure (nat 1's and nat 20's). ...so it is... so it is... I guess it helps to refresh the rules every once in a while, eh? |
| Einzelgaenger02-16-05, 01:45 AM | Aureus Naïlo (Ayatoshi) vs Keth'Arian'Kari (One_Winged_Angel) is up. |
| Snommelp02-16-05, 01:49 AM | I don't think Keth would be flat-footed in the fourth round... the shot still hits, though, so it's only a minor point. EDIT: Come to think of it, what's the +2 in that attack for? The best I can figure is it has something to do with the putting of PP into the crossbow, something I have never seen before and was totally unaware of. EDIT THE SECOND: While I'm at it, how did Aureus charge up his crossbow in the first place? Please understand, I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, but I need to know these kinds of things in case I run a psionic character that can do this or fight against a psionic character that can do this. |

| Ayatoshi02-16-05, 06:55 AM | @Snommelp: The answer to your first questions is that I was invisible to the last it was that it was a deepcrystal crossbow and can be charged with 2pp for +2d6 dmg Wowo that worked very well maybe I'll write tactics more often...nah |
| Sindorin02-16-05, 08:57 AM | okay sooo... Since there are still outstanding fights the pairings are likely to be moved. In your time zone the deadline is 2 pm. |
| One_Winged_Angel02-16-05, 09:54 AM | Aureus Naïlo (Ayatoshi) vs Keth'Arian'Kari (One_Winged_Angel) is up. I know why the bolt doesn't hit. I requested to fight defensively the whole match. I wanted to drop prone after every shot Raises my AC to 29, which, should have made me un-hittable. I never mentioned readying for a reason. My AC is more important to me. EDIT: @T'var: Good fight, man. Meh, I think I'll retire Aloran, or at least shift him around some. Come to think of it, I had a nice idea for a psi-warrior. Hmmm... |

Please understand, I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, but I need to know these kinds of things in case I run a psionic character that can do this or fight against a psionic character that can do this. 1. +2 to attack for being invisible, also flat footed (loses dex to AC) for same reason 2. crossbow is deep crystal I know why the bolt doesn't hit. I requested to fight defensively the whole match. I wanted to drop prone after every shot Raises my AC to 29, which, should have made me un-hittable. I never mentioned readying for a reason. My AC is more important to me. I was told to fight defensively if he tried to get into melee when you were using shuriken. Also, there wasn't any attack for you to drop prone after. As per the ready, I thought the best way for you to get off a snipe shot would be to ready an action to attack while you were hiding. |
| Snommelp02-16-05, 11:43 AM | 1. +2 to attack for being invisible, also flat footed (loses dex to AC) for same reason 2. crossbow is deep crystal Responding to these in reverse order: 2) Thanks, didn't know that. 1) Flat-footed only happens before your first regular turn (PHB, page 137). Also, where does it say you get +2 to attack when invisible? I can't find that rule anywhere. |
| T'Var02-16-05, 11:50 AM | Responding to these in reverse order: 2) Thanks, didn't know that. 1) Flat-footed only happens before your first regular turn (PHB, page 137). I can't find that rule anywhere. while you are correct that your not 'flat footed' an invisible opponent still denies you your dex mod Invisible: Visually undetectable. An invisible creature gains a +2 bonus on attack rolls against sighted opponents, and ignores its opponents’ Dexterity bonuses to AC (if any). (See Invisibility, under Special Abilities.) |

| Snommelp02-16-05, 12:08 PM | just use the SRD easy access to all the rules I know, I know... I even downloaded it so that I wouldn't have to keep using the WotC Search engine... now that I'm looking, though, I can't find that statement that you quoted in the SRD. I'm looking under the heading "Invisibility" in "Abilities and Conditions," since that's the only place so far I've found descriptions about being invisible. I guess I'll just have to take your word on it, until I get my DMG. |

| Huan02-16-05, 12:16 PM | Bare-bones of Elishar vs Ikari Yui (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=5459308) is up. Short version: One of them almost had the match in the bag from their first attack, but the other suddenly had a burst of fiendishly good luck. |
| Arstimis02-16-05, 12:34 PM | Im not sure if it would make any difference, but i just wanted to clarify you with the rules, and obviously the person who put this in his tactics The ability Burst can only be used once per fight....according to the arena rule that states...Items and abilities that can be used a given number of times a day can be used 1/3 times that number, rounded up. just thought i'd let you know |
| Sindorin02-16-05, 12:43 PM | For anyone who was unsure how to tell how many credits you have as a pitlord, (cough, odin, cough), if you look at my name under the active pitlord post, THAT IS WHAT NEGATIVE CREDITS LOOK LIKE!!! *sheepish* |
| Dalton Onestone02-16-05, 01:10 PM | http://www.d20srd.org/index.htm is an alternate online SRD that I find more readable than the standard one. As for Invisibility -- I think there's an AC penalty vs. invisibile opponents rather than an attack bonus for them, but it amounts to the same thing. |

Also, I said to use Psionic Wespon but I meant Psionic Shot which is the one I have, sorry for the mixup. NO big deal, just would have ended fight sooner. KerlanRayne EDIT: You also might want to add how many arrows were used. |
| OdinTheReaper02-16-05, 02:21 PM | @cough..sindorin..cough: wow..that clears up some things for me. Also have you tried taking anything for that cough you have...i seem to have contracted it too.....hmmmm |
| Snommelp02-16-05, 05:04 PM | Invisibility is more powerful than I had thought... presumably the rules for being invisible also apply to spells such as Hide From Animals? By that I mean if I should cast Hide From Animals, I could easily destroy a druid's companion, since it would be denied its dexterity mod &c. |
| Land Outcast02-16-05, 05:08 PM | Halftruth, It is exactly as invisibility, If you attack (anyone) it wears off. btw: (I may sound stupid, Im a N00b here) Shouldn't the pairings have taken place an hour ago? |

| T'Var02-16-05, 05:16 PM | I don't know if easily is the word I would use, but yes, the animal would be denied its dex and you would get a +2 to hit. and just like invis, after you attacked the animal the spell would be broken and it would be able to see and attack you back |

I also said to play defensivly if something unexpected happens. Oh, and I would greatly appreciate a placement chart. Where everyone was at round 3 and 4 would be helpful. There is a distance penalty associated with spot that might have helped me. Oh, and BTW, you can't snipe as a readied action anyway. Sniping is a full round action. |

| Sindorin02-16-05, 05:57 PM | hahaha, people are always putting his face in pictures these days... |
| Naerdaloth02-16-05, 05:57 PM | @Ayatoshi: that last AoO would have missed, Naer's AC vs movement AoO's is 23 (18 +1 dodge +4 mobility) |
| Ayatoshi02-16-05, 07:59 PM | Alright I'll revise it |
| TaggIIV02-16-05, 08:08 PM | Oh, yknow what, I missed something. Rage, which lowered AC 2 points. You were correct, sorry. |
| Ayatoshi02-16-05, 08:14 PM | oh well revised it already same result but this way you had a cooler loss you dealt him 30 dmg in one hityeah raging greatsword criticals |
| Ayatoshi02-16-05, 09:10 PM | I just realized that I have no tactics from Solmund and he has a red violation I'm not sure what to do because if I ran it he would probably double move in circles the whole time singing(*off-key) "I just got hit with a touch of idiocy spell my int, wis , and cha are all 1's lalalalalalalalalalaalalaalalalalalalala laaaaaaaaala!" |

| Dalton Onestone02-16-05, 11:42 PM | Unless I'm misreading it, there's a mistake in Round 2 of Elishar vs. Ikari. Ikari is invisible. Elishar has See Invisibility. But it's Elishar's familiar who spots Ikari, and the familiar is out of Share Spell range at the time. |

| Dalton Onestone02-16-05, 11:46 PM | Problem with Necavi vs. Zubair -- if Necavi's horse was hanging around under Necavi's butt while Necavi was entangled, then the horse had to reroll its reflex save every turn to avoid becoming entangled itself. When Necavi finally breaks free, the horse may have in the mean time gotten stuck. |
| Dalton Onestone02-16-05, 11:53 PM | Just a char sheet tactics point -- but at Level 4, Rayos could cash in his CLW potions and get cheaper CLW scrolls. |

Sniping is a full round action. The distance penalty with the spot was 3, as there was a 30 foot difference between you and him, your hide was 22, his spot was 25, so he just barely saw you. Fine, instead of readying a shot, you were engaging in total defense. He still hits, barely though. No, I'm not going to set you to prone, too. Your character had no way to know if he was playing the ranged game or not, so I'll not set him to do something that while increasing your ranged AC, decreases melee AC by the same amount. |

| Huan02-17-05, 12:39 AM | Indri'ynar Per-El'ereth vs Brandt Cadman (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=5464711) is up Short version: Another nat 20 win it seems, though fighting a bot is not always the hardest challenge... @Madcow Indri was too evasive to use charging, he had you beat on speed, and since you would only really hit on a natural 20 anyway, I had you resort to melee since you would get more attacks in with your horse, not to mention if you hit your damage would be greater than a bow. I will try to get both of my stories in tomorrow, the delays are really screwing me over with my schedule in real life. If I get them late (after pairings), my apologies, but I will still deliver. |
| One_Winged_Angel02-17-05, 12:49 AM | The distance penalty with the spot was 3, as there was a 30 foot difference between you and him, your hide was 22, his spot was 25, so he just barely saw you. | Ayatoshi02-17-05, 06:45 AM | T'Var you can consider this a win with no Items used I may just run it to make it funny... Him running around while you poke him in the eye every now and then.. :D |
| Huan02-17-05, 09:44 AM | Unless I'm misreading it, there's a mistake in Round 2 of Elishar vs. Ikari. Ikari is invisible. Elishar has See Invisibility. But it's Elishar's familiar who spots Ikari, and the familiar is out of Share Spell range at the time. That's why I said 'noticed' instead of spotted, since it was only a 20 + distance DC the hawk had to spot for to notice Ikari. Besides, Elishar had a line of sight to Ikari, See Invisibility active, and pinpointed him via hearing anyway (I was going to toss Spot in case the listen failed, but it was redundant). Had he not noticed hium from any of those, the hawk would have pointed him in the right direction on its turn (right after his) anyway. But, since Elishar already had Ikari in his sights, there was no need to the hawk to say anything. |
| Arstimis02-17-05, 11:32 AM | T'Var you can consider this a win with no Items used I may just run it to make it funny... Him running around while you poke him in the eye every now and then.. :D I always thought that given this situation the Pitlord was supposed to run the gladiator to his basic intent a fighter tries to melee an archer tries to shoot arrows and melees when he has to a caster casts the spells they have. Not the Pitlord runs the gladiator in mindless circles for no reason You were still assigned a fight, and still have a job to do. |

How would you like it if you had big problems in real life and couldnt send in tactics so your pitlord made you run around in circles mindlessly getting poked in the eye till you die? answer the question..honestly |
| T'Var02-17-05, 12:02 PM | I was also thinking it might be more in the spirit in the arena. How would you like it if you had big problems in real life and couldnt send in tactics so your pitlord made you run around in circles mindlessly getting poked in the eye till you die? answer the question..honestly well any 1 of those errors i would still run the fight, however no tactics, AND editing sheet after deadline AND already being in violation... the question should be how would you justify that many bads on your sheet in one week as for your question though It would be asinine to ask me. Ive never edited my sheet past deadline Ive been thru some serious stuff, but always find 5 minutes to write a simple tactic and if i somehoe failed in all of those events in a single week, I wouldnt have a problem with a forfit even if it took place as a match where my char acted a fool how bout you? |
| Dalton Onestone02-17-05, 01:11 PM | I really don't like the idea of humiliating players and their gladiators because a serious flaw has been found in their tactics. I REALLY REALLY don't like it. I dropped out of LG after McTemplate decided he felt like humiliating me over not having known the memorize-ALL-spells-rule-change, although obviously I changed my mind (after a LOT of talking with Cat). I understand that pitlords needs to RP my gladiator for me, but deliberately making him a be a fool just destroys the character concept for me. If that ever happens to one of my gladiators again -- well, at a minimum there will be a great deal of "Krach". |
| Sindorin02-17-05, 01:14 PM | I agree with that statement wholeheartedly - Arstimis hit it right on the button. Running a gladiator with no tactics should be the same as running a Gladiator's warhorse - a character with levels in a class knows tricks and should not be an idiot. |
| T'Var02-17-05, 01:24 PM | I honestly dont care either way. if Ayatoshi wants to run a 'ha ha' match its up to him I think. as for the fight itself, it was a forfit. |
| Dalton Onestone02-17-05, 01:38 PM | ::Grumble:: I GUESS one could say the gladiator was under the effect of Touch of Idiocy or the equivalent, or had a concussion on his way to the Arena ... But I still don't like it one little bit. |
| Dalton Onestone02-17-05, 01:41 PM | Let me add that truly goodnatured teasing can be different. One pitlord had my "Kwerrock the Quiet" character yelling at his opponent, but the whole writeup was so funny I didn't really mind. That was the "Total Potato Kill" fight, in which the unmounted character without Rapid Shot was deemed to have no chance whatsoever vs. the mounted character with Deflect Arrows. |
| Arstimis02-17-05, 05:19 PM | well any 1 of those errors i would still run the fight, however no tactics, AND editing sheet after deadline AND already being in violation... the question should be how would you justify that many bads on your sheet in one week as for your question though It would be asinine to ask me. **How serious is the violation, i doubt very **Did he even edit anything that would make a difference. The reason we did that editing deadline is so gladiators couldnt change something serious so his opponent wouldnt have tactics against it. **As for tactics, the Pitlord should have just used the default tactics of the Class, if none were sent from the player.(as i said before) And I was hoping for a responce from the Pitlord, as it is him this was mostly directed to, but thank you for your points |

| Snommelp02-17-05, 06:08 PM | Not only was it a red violation, the violation tag contained two links to lists of violations; an old link and a newer link. I'm still confused as to how he got paired. As for the edit, according to Solmund the edit was to fix the violations, but the mistakes were severe enough that even editing to fix the character would have caused problems for his opponent. However, I agree that it is mean-spirited to run the character as if he were the town idiot. That's just adding insult to injury. Have the character oversleep and miss the fight, if you want, but some things are just too far over the line of common decency. |
