| Sindorin03-09-05, 02:36 PM | IT'S ALMOST MARCH MADNESS!!! IT'S ALMOST SPRING BREAK!!! IT'S ALMOST TIME FOR PAIRINGS!!! I DID ALL MY HOMEWORK!!! MY CAR IS GETTING FIXED!!! 1.5 hours left, fellas. remember to BE NICE!!! *dances* *bows* *runs away* |
| Huan03-09-05, 02:48 PM | "Be Nice" is going to be new slogan of the COCO (in all irony), I can see it now... |
| OdinTheReaper03-09-05, 03:09 PM | :w00t: WOOOOOOOOOOOOT!! |
| Snommelp03-09-05, 05:14 PM | While we're waiting, I have exciting news! Well, exciting to me, anyways. I have a four-octave range on my trombone! For those of you who don't know music, let's just say that I'm a l33t trombonist. |
| Vivat Grendel03-09-05, 05:18 PM | Aren't guys that play the instrument called - "Tromboners" anymore, they used to be when I went to school. Long ago, galaxy far away and all that. |
| T'Var03-09-05, 05:20 PM | Aren't guys that play the instrument called - "Tromboners" anymore, they used to be when I went to school. Long ago, galaxy far away and all that. probably not Politicaly Correct to use that word anymore... |
| Huan03-09-05, 05:20 PM | Aren't guys that play the instrument called - "Tromboners" anymore, they used to be when I went to school. Long ago, galaxy far away and all that. Yeah, they're still called that, heh heh. @Snommelp Being a former 'tromboner', I can appreciate that, congrats. |
| Snommelp03-09-05, 05:20 PM | Nah, we've always been trombonists. Tromboner is just the joke name that arises around sixth grade or so. @ Huan: thanks. I probably wouldn't have done that yet, except one piece I'm playing calls for a double F followed closely by a pedal F. |
| Sindorin03-09-05, 05:39 PM | While we're waiting, I have exciting news! Well, exciting to me, anyways. I have a four-octave range on my trombone! For those of you who don't know music, let's just say that I'm a l33t trombonist. damn, that's tough to do with a 'bone... |

FYI, if you want to use readied actions please be specific about them as far as what triggers what. Get me the tactics early if you can, my weekend will be busy and I'd like to run it friday night. |
| Snommelp03-09-05, 06:48 PM | So, who's running Zactor and Cedric vs. Rook? BTW, tactics for Snomm and Boriux both sent. EDIT: Nevermind, the three-way is on the list now. Have fun, Jindl. |
| Pitlords03-09-05, 06:50 PM | Pairings Done Send your tactics asap! Pitlords may begin running fights without tactics on saturday Deadline for late penalties is Tuesday 8 AM GMT Another penalty for not posting the fight at all Credit Balances: Credits for running fights: +2: Caterane, Jindl, T'Var, Pittbull, Kaigan, Snommelp +1: Cellardweller, Sindorin, Beldin, MysticMonk2005, TaggIIV, Spasheridan, Ayatoshi, Odin the Reaper Credits for running Quests: +4: Huan +2: T'Var, Kaigan +1: Jindl :D Credits for going on Quests: -1: Caterane, Jindl, Kaigan, TaggIIV Credits for more than 2 active PCs: -2: Kaigan -1: Caterane, Sindorin, Snommelp Credits for Challenges:: -1: T'Var, Huan, Snommelp Special Credits:: +1: Caterane (admin) Credits Changes: +3: T'Var, Huan +2: Pittbull, Jindl +1: Caterane, Kaigan, Cellardweller, Beldin, MysticMonk, Spasheridan, Ayatoshi, Odin, +0: TaggIIV, Sindorin, Snommelp Honourable mentionings of stories are Huan's Zeem vs Fineal (we would've been surprised, Huan) and Kaigan's Elishar vs Fyhir, especially since he mentioned the Harvester! :cloud9: Jindl's Odin vs Flower fight deserves mentioning twice: because of the nice naration but also for his audit of the characters. Thanks Jindl! And there's of course Sindorin with Derth vs the Elder although it's not clear where Jindl's tactic ends and Sindorin's story begins :P . Odin and Trokk are out because of their violation though I gave both a * because the violation has been noted down late. For our newer members: that's a "doesn't fight" credit and means you will definately get paired with this character (provided you set him active). This week's main attraction - asides from the exotic Level 5 league opening - is the team fight of Zactor (3) and Cedric (3) vs Rook Devange (5). New CoCo Rules (please read) This week will be the last week that you can make unrestricted use of expendable items. From next week on the maximum caster level for scrolls and powerstones is limited to your ECL+2. So either spend your scrolls this week, or refund them for full before the next pairings are rolled. Potions and Tattoos are unaffected; their limit stays at ECL = CL. Since much higher (than you) CL scrolls are still a part of a D&D campaign - although a rare one - they should not be bared completely but are from next week on considered Custom Items (of the 1st tier; nevermind). That means you have to spend 1 credit per custom scroll or powerstone. The same is now true for Potions and Tattoos. They are usually created at minimum CL but if you pay 1 credit, you may buy a higher CL Potion/Tattoo than your ECL. Potions are still restricted to the ones in the DMG. This is not the final decision on this issue but it needs further discussion. You may challenge other Gladiators. Doing so costs 1 credit for both players for knowing who they fight. The challenger or the challenged one may take over the credit cost for the other player, if they desire. You might have noticed a new descriptor on the Roster: [Å] which is a [A]-fight descriptor with a credit on top which means - at the moment only - "Challenge" but there might be more circumstances that require this descriptor. Thanks to whichever culture came up with this letter :D The Late Penalty system has been changed! From this week on you will get 1 negative penalty on top of the one you lose for not posting the fight on time. If you do not post the fight at all (before pairings are rolled), you will get another negative credit. The probation has been eliminated because it harms the CoCo more than the one who has to sit out, and puts additional pressure on the active pitlords. The probation has been replaced by the negative credit system (see above) and discussing the issue if it is being repeated often. To help increase the discipline I want to ask all players to write PMs to their Pitlord if your fight is late. That might increase the fights on time. I guess this is everything. Have fun, be nice, and kick some serious ....you know http://www.1a-network.de/images/cgi-bin/gbs/smilies/biggthumpup.gif Cat @Xanadu: Please link this post to your character sheet so that auditors see that you have trained Fleshgrinder the attack trick: Pairings Post on the Fights thread |

| Snommelp03-09-05, 07:18 PM | @ Cat: I think I should be breaking even rather than gaining a credit. I have three active characters, after all. Or does the challenge credit override the third character credit? |

| Jindl03-10-05, 09:54 PM | Some intro for the 2 vs 1 match has been posted on the RP thread. Check it out... |
| Huan03-10-05, 10:23 PM | Some intro for the 2 vs 1 match has been posted on the RP thread. Check it out... Well, no matter how the fight ends up, I really liked that intro. Great job, Jindl  |
| Jindl03-10-05, 11:03 PM | Glad you like it. Hopefully I'll be able to continue it in a story after I complete the match. FYI: All tactics recieved. Working on the Elder's tactics now... EDIT: And tactics for the Elder have been PM'd to cellardweller. Tough fight this week for Eniolissaryn, what with his foe having SR19 and all. |
| Snommelp03-11-05, 01:42 AM | It was indeed a great intro, Jindl. I believe you captured Cedric quite nicely. All tactics have been received. I'll look over them for mistakes now, and probably start running fights after classes tomorrow. |
| spasheridan03-11-05, 02:50 AM | EDIT: And tactics for the Elder have been PM'd to cellardweller. Tough fight this week for Eniolissaryn, what with his foe having SR19 and all. If only you could cast spells on yourself that made you a crack shot with a crossbow... something that would make you strike true... Yup, nothing left to do but ... hey, there's an idea! Get a sharp stick and poke it in the eye! :D |
| Caterane03-11-05, 02:04 PM | Tactics sent for Uhmentarymster (T'Var) and Merman (Beldin) |
| stinkygoblin03-11-05, 03:47 PM | tactics sent for naythan and rex |
| Snommelp03-11-05, 06:15 PM | @ Sindorin: in Ripper vs. Zubair, it looks like you may have forgotten that Entangle requires a new save every round. That could (potentially) have a big effect on the outcome of the fight. |
| Snommelp03-11-05, 07:45 PM | Gabriel vs. Telnith is up. Evadyn, you may want to consider putting your ally section before your used items and wins/losses. As a rule, I never include those two sections, and almost missed Quicksilver because of that. Kaigan, please list your attacks. I know you'll probably never use them, but better safe than sorry, eh? |
| xanadu03-11-05, 09:23 PM | @ Sindorin: in Ripper vs. Zubair, it looks like you may have forgotten that Entangle requires a new save every round. That could (potentially) have a big effect on the outcome of the fight. Correct. Sindorin, you played my guy as I would have so the tactics are cool, just give Zubair & Uday the new saves they must take. |
| Sindorin03-11-05, 10:27 PM | Oh my goodness, I thought I had covered every round that he was in the entangle. I'll take a look at it, and let you know if anything changes. Using a memorized Entangle rather than a scroll would probably have been more effective because of save DC's... |
| xanadu03-12-05, 12:36 AM | Oh my goodness, I thought I had covered every round that he was in the entangle. I'll take a look at it, and let you know if anything changes. Using a memorized Entangle rather than a scroll would probably have been more effective because of save DC's... You're right but since I said use scrolls on tactics it is only fair that you use scrolls for this fight. |
| Snommelp03-12-05, 12:43 AM | One more thing you may want to look at, Sin: even though xanadu didn't have any SNA II spells memorized, I didn't see in his tactics any mention of casting other memorized spells, so as a druid he could have possibly switched a memorized spell spontaneously. I don't think it has any effect on the original fight, but you might consider it in the revision. |
| Sindorin03-12-05, 02:13 AM | I just realized that, I had forgotten that druids can convert to sna spells... I am such an idiot when it comes to druids. Unfortunately, times are rather hectic at this point and I have added the reflex saves which i rolled online. I doubt I'd be able to look into it much further at this point. Xanadu said it was okay though... |
| Snommelp03-12-05, 02:18 AM | If xanadu's alright with it, then I certainly have no problem with it. I don't really understand druids that well either. |
| xanadu03-12-05, 03:26 AM | I just realized that, I had forgotten that druids can convert to sna spells... I am such an idiot when it comes to druids. Unfortunately, times are rather hectic at this point and I have added the reflex saves which i rolled online. I doubt I'd be able to look into it much further at this point. Xanadu said it was okay though... Sindorin - its cool, you played that as well as you could trying to stay true to my tactics. The guy had 3 20s and made 6 reflex saves. If that's what it takes to give the Ripper his first loss than I guess I was bound to lose that fight. |
| KerlanRayne03-12-05, 05:56 AM | Sindorin - its cool, you played that as well as you could trying to stay true to my tactics. The guy had 3 20s and made 6 reflex saves. If that's what it takes to give the Ripper his first loss than I guess I was bound to lose that fight.Actually, I think you probably should have lost in the first round. I don't know how he got a -8 distance penalty. That would put you more than 440 feet away! Loks like it should have been -2 or at most -4, that means the first round crit would have been confirmed and The Ripper would be at 0 or less. KerlanRayne |
| OdinTheReaper03-12-05, 12:35 PM | eek wrong account |
| Sindorin03-12-05, 12:39 PM | The reason that I put the -8 circumstance penalty there was because Zubair was far away from his range increment. I was not aware that you could shoot further than your range increment until recently. Could someone please explain this for me? If anything, The Ripper would save some scrolls. |
| Snommelp03-12-05, 12:47 PM | The rules for range increments are found on page 114 of the PHB. The section you want reads as follows: "[E]ach full range increment imposes a cumulative -2 penalty on the attack roll." It probably doesn't matter for the coliseum, but it's worth noting that a thrown weapon's maximum range is five range increments, and a projectile weapon can shoot to a maximum of ten increments. |
| xanadu03-12-05, 12:49 PM | Actually, I think you probably should have lost in the first round. I don't know how he got a -8 distance penalty. That would put you more than 440 feet away! Loks like it should have been -2 or at most -4, that means the first round crit would have been confirmed and The Ripper would be at 0 or less. KerlanRayne Psionic shot doesn't stack on a crit right? The Ripper's flat AC should be 13 & not 12 (my mistake on the sheet). Sindorin, if you could edit the fight to have Ripper burning warp wood or something rather than a scroll when he died that'd be fine. Dont worry about the entangle scrolls since I specificically said to use them. |
| Sindorin03-12-05, 12:50 PM | That makes things a lot more interesting here. Cool beans. I will edit the fight... it is likely to be much shorter. |
| Sindorin03-12-05, 01:06 PM | okay, KR, you were right. I apologize for ignorantly penalizing Zubair. The fight shortened up quite a bit, seeing as how once multiplied properly that crit killed the Ripper twice over... At first I thought this whole range increment thing was balanced. Now I am not so sure... |
| KerlanRayne03-12-05, 09:35 PM | Psionic shot doesn't stack on a crit right? That is correct. The Strength damage and the base damage would be tripled, but extra dice from Deep Crystal and Psionic Shot would not. Still more than enough though. KerlanRayne |
| Caterane03-13-05, 05:39 AM | EnSidious Nyte vs Seyan'Du Just noticed two things about the fight... In the round I used my Psionic Shot feat, I should have hit him, because i have Point Blank Shot (which was in my character sheet) I would have had a +8 to my attack, with would have hit exactly. [You were more than 30ft away] Also, I should have kept using my bow instead of switching to my rapier. Just taking 5 ft step back to avoid AoO. Especially since I have the best chance to hit with bow as opposed to my rapier, and there isnt any logical reason to change to rapier [You mentioned to switch to rapier in melee. Anyway, since the rolls stay it doesn't matter; just one more hit for 1d8+1 damage in round 13] That was actually within 30 ft....basically. If he was able to attack my horse and kill then, then he would have been close enough for me to use point blank No, on Round 11 you were 45 ft away from Seyan'Du and you explicitely said "Snipe" which is a standard (shoot) + move action (rehide) so you cannot move closer. Also, just looking at some of the positions..it seems a few were messed up...like sometimes he attacked the horse he wasnt near him at all The positions are correct. Replay the match on your map and you will see. Also, that 14 damage shot should still hit with an attack of 22. his ac with cover is only 22 (he is denied dex bonus and dodge, making ac 18 +4 cover for 22) Right. |
| Arstimis03-13-05, 10:36 AM | EnSidious Nyte vs Seyan'Du The positions are correct. Replay the match on your map and you will see. In round 7. My horse should have been right next to Sey, since it was attacking him. Same in 8, 9, 10, and 11 (in which Sey beheaded my horse by being on the otherside of the obstacle). Had Sey been where my horse was so he could kill my horse, He would have been within the 30 ft (giving me +8 to hit) and I would have been able to hit him, doing a bit of damage That is what I got from the positions... |
| xanadu03-13-05, 12:45 PM | Actually, I think you probably should have lost in the first round. I don't know how he got a -8 distance penalty. That would put you more than 440 feet away! Loks like it should have been -2 or at most -4, that means the first round crit would have been confirmed and The Ripper would be at 0 or less. KerlanRayne Dont you feel slightly guilty winning on a crit before I get to do anything :chicken:  |
| Caterane03-13-05, 07:16 PM | In round 7. Ok, let's do it together... Round 7: Seyan'Du (+2/-1), 41/20 hp; focused, vigor [20], skate (5/10), biofeedback (4/10), force screen (3/10) EnSidious (-4/+3), 20/20 hp; focused, elixir of hiding, chameleon LW Deth (+0/-3), 22/22 hp; defends master As I've told you last week I always use the top left square for large creatures positions. That means Seyandu and the horse are adjectent to each other. Let me create a map... http://home.arcor.de/caterane/Arti1.jpg Ok, next round: Round 8: Sey must drop the horse first [greataxe (5+6) = 11, fails]. Horse retaliates [hoof (12+4), hoof (12+4), bite (11-1)]. Sid moves to a good position. Seyan'Du (+2/-1), 41/20 hp; focused, vigor [20], skate (6/10), biofeedback (5/10), force screen (4/10) EnSidious (-2/+4), 20/20 hp; focused, elixir of hiding, chameleon LW Deth (+0/-3), 22/22 hp; defends master Same positions, see above. So Round 8 seems to be correct aswell. Let's see about Round 9: Round 9: Sey attacks horse [greataxe (12+6) = 18 vs Ac14, ok; Damage (3d6+6) = 14], horse attacks Sey [hoof (18+4) = 22 vs Ac20, ok; Damage (1d4+3) = 4-2 = 2, hoof (4+4), bite (3-1)]. Sid snipes [bow (14+8) = 22 vs Ac22, ok; Damage (1d8+4+2d6) = 16-2 = 14; hide (9+10) = 19; Spot (12+3-3) = 12, fails]. Seyan'Du (+2/-1), 25/20 hp; focused, vigor [5], skate (7/10), biofeedback (6/10), force screen (5/10) EnSidious (-2/+4), 20/20 hp; focused, elixir of hiding, chameleon LW Deth (+0/-3), 8/22 hp; defends master They didn't move so just look at the map above. Round 9 is correct aswell. Let's move on to Round 10: Round 10: Sey knows the direction of the arrow and moves there, negating Sids cover, and attacks [AoO: hoof (6+4); Greataxe (6+6)] but fails again. Sid moves away and horse attacks [hoof (4+4)]. Seyan'Du (-1/+4), 25/20 hp; focused, vigor [5], skate (8/10), biofeedback (7/10), force screen (6/10) EnSidious (-3/-4), 20/20 hp; focused, elixir of hiding, chameleon LW Deth (+0/-3), 8/22 hp; defends master Here I forgot to update the horse' position but from the text it is clear that the horse followed Seyandu and ended up at (+0/+2). Map: http://home.arcor.de/caterane/Arti2.jpg EnSid1 is the position where you've been on Round 9 AND still during Seyandu's move in Round 10. On your turn, you moved to (-3/-4), marked as Ensid2. What you apparently did was just looking at the end of round summary and seeing that Sey and Sid are not adjectent to each other. Same for the next two rounds. |
| Arstimis03-13-05, 07:23 PM | Ok, let's do it together... As I've told you last week I always use the top left square for large creatures positions. That means Seyandu and the horse are adjectent to each other. Let me create a map... http://home.arcor.de/caterane/Arti1.jpg Ok, next round: Same positions, see above. So Round 8 seems to be correct aswell. Let's see about Round 9: They didn't move so just look at the map above. Round 9 is correct aswell. Ahh..ok, thank you for clearing all that up...sometimes the map still confuses me... |
| Arstimis03-14-05, 12:11 AM | Whip....err.....Odin vs Trokk (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=5642558&postcount=1370) is done. |
| Jindl03-14-05, 11:15 AM | @cellar - Thanks for running the Elder vs Boriux the Psuedodragon. Two minor errors - 1. The Elder doesn't have a scroll: protection from fire. He has a scroll: resist energy, which is what I meant for him to use in Rnd 3 to resist fire. (Immaterial for the fight, but it does affect items used.) 2. In Rnd 7, you repeated a sentence where Borriux attacks and is hit by an AoO, from Rnd 6. It's just a typo, but some people may find it confusing. 3. There are some minor errors in the Elder's hps during the fight, but nothing material to the outcome. 4. If you want to be precise, the Elder also used an arrow in the fight. Again, thanks for running the fight! -Jindl |

| Snommelp03-14-05, 12:06 PM | @ cellardweller: I guess that's why he's the Elder; he's got years of experience backing him to help beat up on a poor young dragon. I see no further errors than Jindl wrote, save for the red text you put into Boriux's tactics. Not an error, per se, but clarification. The Bag of Tricks has a summoning range of 20 feet, which I would take to be 20 feet in any direction, as long as the user can throw a ball there. That's why 20 feet straight down should work, and why Jindl pointed out that I'd have to be within 20 feet of the ground to use the item. Other than that, all I can think is: ouch. Very ouch. |
| Kaigan03-14-05, 01:20 PM | Alright, two more fights Ceres vs. Snomm elp Nell vs. Zeem Followed tactics as best as I could. |
| OdinTheReaper03-14-05, 02:20 PM | Okay i apologize for anyone who has not recieved a message back from me because my internet at my house has been down..... @my fighters: my fight will be run today and hopefully be posted as long as my computers connection is oksy....I lefy my dice with Khaz_Gu and im going to see him next weekend too i think soo....i have to use a stupid online roller. I love my dice..:( . @Sindorin: will you link to me the online roller that you use? I like that one better than the elemental one because it never works for me. Thanks. |
| Snommelp03-14-05, 02:35 PM | Alright, two more fights Ceres vs. Snomm elp Nell vs. Zeem Followed tactics as best as I could. Wow... wasn't expecting him to start a grapple, or else I would have said something about it. The fight looks good to me, but I could be mistaken; I'm distracted by the foot of snow outside. |
| Sindorin03-14-05, 02:36 PM | @Sindorin: will you link to me the online roller that you use? I like that one better than the elemental one because it never works for me. Thanks. I tried sending it to you but your PM box is full. In any case, it's here. (http://www.invisiblecastle.com/) Give me a call if you would prefer real dice or if you can't get the fight up in time and I will help you. |
| Sindorin03-14-05, 02:40 PM | Wow... wasn't expecting him to start a grapple, or else I would have said something about it. The fight looks good to me, but I could be mistaken; I'm distracted by the foot of snow outside. A foot of snow in Arizona?! Rock on! Yeah, I did a few things that I didn't expect you to expect in that fight... like bluffing without a bluff check with my lance. I was very worried about that crit... Ceres doesn't have all that many hit points... |
| Megrim_Lord03-14-05, 03:11 PM | Whip....err.....Odin vs Trokk (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=5642558&postcount=1370) is done. that fight is freaking redorkulous! I'd ask for a rerun but you did nothing wrong as a pitlord, so I guess petitioning to have whip tokens banned will have to do. Although I have to wonder, even if the whip grappled me, wouldnt the horse have kept on going? and couldn't trokk have tried some other method of escape other than feebly attempting to resist? oh well, not your fault by any account, but still.... THAT WAS FREAKING REDORKULOUS!!!!!!! |

| T'Var03-14-05, 03:31 PM | that fight is freaking redorkulous! THAT WAS FREAKING REDORKULOUS!!!!!!! though there are no actual rules on this yet per CoCo cause the elders have yet to give us a VOTE the generaly accepted rule is that when you are grappled while mounted either you stay on the mount or you are dismounted. however if you remain on the mount, and the mount moves, you cannot move with the mount so you are again dismounted. and no the only way to escape is to kill your foe but the whip cant be harmed, break grapple or to use the escape artist skill. |
| michael_noah03-14-05, 03:33 PM | 5.Round: Cannon tries to break the grapple (10+11=21 vs. 1+15=16, comes free). Necavi restarts to activate his powerstone (ML-check:16+2=18, Astral construct takes one round) and does a slient five-foot-step (MS:18+1=19; H:19+1+20=40). Sokai listens and spots (L:11+4-5=10, S: impossible) and cannot pin-point Necavi, so lets the whip attack the horse first (A:9+10=19, damage:5, Grapple:9+15=24 vs.13+11=24, reroll, 13+15=28 vs. 18+11=19, not grappled), followed by a manifested wildsurged shard (WS:60%; A:8+7=15, damage:6d6=2+3+2+1+6+4=18). Sokai (mounted) 64/24 vigor (8min), force-screen (2min), whip (1h), 4 PPs used, euphoria Grim Surprise (x+10/y-3),right upper corner) 20/30 Necavi 4+3=8 (x+3/y+4) 37/37 invisible (3min), hide from animals (10min) Cannon Fodder 16+1=17 (Left upper corner, x+10/y+1) 4/30 6.Round: Cannon makes a five foot step and full-attacks Grim (A1:16+6=22, damage:7; A2:20!12+6=18, crit:2d6+8=6+8=14, bite:16+1=17, damage:1d4+2=4). Grim Surprise breaks down (R:9+8=17), but Sokai lands savely on his feet (x+9/y-1). Now Necavi first astral construct, called AC5, apears and charges the wilder (A:14+7+2=23 vs.AC21, damage:1d6+7=13). Necavi draws anaother stone and starts manifesting again (ML-check:17+2=19, takes one round). Sokai has no chance to pin-point him, his whip attacks Cannon Fodder (A:16+10=26, damage:3, Grapple:10+15=25 vs. 14+11=25, reroll, 18+15=33 vs. 4+11=15). So, he makes a five-foot step, drawing a powerstone and manifests skate with it. There is a typo in your first grapple re-roll that looks like the horse should lose. However, you should not be re-rolling the grapple checks here. The whip should have won both of those grapple checks without re-rolling. So, cannon is grappled and doesn't kill Grim Surprise! on the next round. From the SRD: Step 3: Hold. Make an opposed grapple check as a free action. If you succeed, you and your target are now grappling, and you deal damage to the target as if with an unarmed strike. If you lose, you fail to start the grapple. You automatically lose an attempt to hold if the target is two or more size categories larger than you are. In case of a tie, the combatant with the higher grapple check modifier wins. If this is a tie, roll again to break the tie. |
| Sindorin03-14-05, 03:38 PM | Please note my indignation and refusal to acknkowledge Odin Soulbringer as the official victor of that fight by viewing my win/loss column. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=5562321&postcount=221) :D Hmm... I did post in the tavern regarding that fight. I was wondering whether or not we are still allowed to use those because they are CL 12th. Since they are wondrous items, though, I figure that we still are as long as we fork the cash over. By the way, you should have gained exp for a fourth level loss instead of a third level loss. The whip token has always been a threat; I don't suppose you read over of any of Odin's past expenditures, or perhaps any of his previous fights? He uses it to full potential. He ought to, since he is wearing that pimpin cowboy hat. I don't suppose you read the Sokai vs. En Sidious Deth fight, where both fighters used the whip token on each other and the high hit point tota/manifesting more vigor while grappled eventually won out? The whip can take control of any fight at these levels. It has always been around. |
| Pittbull03-14-05, 03:44 PM | @Micheal Noah: Damn it! You're absolutely right. I forgot that. The question is, if Sindorin wants this to be fixed. I won't be able to do this in the night, but tomorrow during work. The chances for the win aren't good but there is still a chance. Good spot! Hey, this fight was pretty demanding! |

| spasheridan03-14-05, 03:47 PM | As far as whip tokens being nuts... well, there are battles where mounts win it all by themselves. And the mounts get replaced if it dies because of the nimbus, so at least you have to spend the cash to replace the whip. Same thing goes for 7 HP wizards throwing down for CL 9 Magic Missile scrolls. 225 gp for 5d4 + 5 damage. 2 of those should drop most opponents in 2 rounds. in these leagues 1 shot items are extremely valuable. THe question of the hour is going to be if the downside of them.. lost gear at high levels.. is actually a downside. |
| michael_noah03-14-05, 03:47 PM | Hey, this fight was pretty demanding! I can imagine so! |
| Sindorin03-14-05, 03:49 PM | no, I didn't read any of those fights because A: I havent been around long enough to think of that B: I'm too much of a self centered bastard to worry about anyone elses fights :D hehe. @Pittbull: Well, it really could change the fight... If you have time, go ahead and take a look at it, but don't inconvenience yourself. It could affect the fight, though I am okay with the loss by that point. I didn't expect the constructs to get me bogged down like that. |

It could affect the fight, though I am okay with the loss by that point. I didn't expect the constructs to get me bogged down like that. Rethinking it the last 5 minutes ....., yeah there is still a reasonable chance to win. AC5 will attack Grim sunrise first. The whip will attack it after it killed the brave Cannon Fodder. Well, let's see, I will rerun it tomorrow morning CET. |
| Sindorin03-14-05, 03:59 PM | Okay, just don't inconvenience yourself after all that hard work on the fight. |
| Megrim_Lord03-14-05, 04:25 PM | oh, and I have to ask, Arstimis where did you get that nifty arse map thingy? I mean it's in COLOR and everything, care to fill me in? |

Also as soon as my mom gets home (as i dont have my car in MO) Catlyn and I are going to see ROBOTS!! YES...then afterwards im going to finish the fight. |
| Arstimis03-14-05, 05:23 PM | First about the EXP. I talked with Cat and he said the most exp a gladiator could get for losing was ECL x 3....Could you imagine how much exp a 3rd level gladiator would get for fighting a 20th level character even if he lost. I think Cat said in the 30,000 range. What map are you talking about Megrim? And the whip..yes I really hate it. So i gotta find ways to work around it...Just let someone with a whip fight one of my characters. they will pay for it |
| Megrim_Lord03-14-05, 05:25 PM | Ok, let's do it together... As I've told you last week I always use the top left square for large creatures positions. I think cat used something like Paint or Photoshop to add the colors for the characters, but here is the map (http://home.arcor.de/caterane/Miscellaneous%20Pictures/ArenaMap.jpg) and here is a little bigger version of it MAP (http://home.arcor.de/caterane/Miscellaneous%20Pictures/ArenaMap1.jpg) |
| Snommelp03-14-05, 06:17 PM | Aeluath vs. Kiyo is up. Zepher, I tried to PM you about a contingency in your tactics, but never heard back, so I did the best I could. |
| Pitlords03-14-05, 08:49 PM | @T'Var: If you attack, Sanctuary is gone. Damon attacked the horse with spiritual weapons. Uhme's second MM9 is not spoiled and goes off (he passed his CL check). I think that definately finishes Damon off. Also, casting skate on my 6 hp horse that was about to die anyway was a waste of ressource and time but I'm not complaining about that. |
| T'Var03-14-05, 09:14 PM | @T'Var: If you attack, Sanctuary is gone. Damon attacked the horse with spiritual weapons. Uhme's second MM9 is not spoiled and goes off (he passed his CL check). Nope Damon didnt attack anything the Spiritual weapon attacked he just directed it. It makes its own attack rolls its own damage if he ignores it, it will attack on its own The CL checks were successful the scrolls were lost because they were cast and the Sanctuary prevented them from being effective like an unbeatable SR the skate was manifested on You not on the horse that is what gave you the 45 movement insead of 30 |
| Pitlords03-14-05, 09:43 PM | Nope Damon didnt attack anything the Spiritual weapon attacked he just directed it. It makes its own attack rolls its own damage if he ignores it, it will attack on its own The CL checks were successful the scrolls were lost because they were cast and the Sanctuary prevented them from being effective like an unbeatable SR The spiritual weapon uses your bab and wisdom, and you need to check for SR if any. The Spiritual Weapon is an attack like a magic missile is. Everyone will confirm this, even Cellardweller. Please correct it. |
| T'Var03-14-05, 09:51 PM | The spiritual weapon uses your bab and wisdom, and you need to check for SR if any. The Spiritual Weapon is an attack like a magic missile is. Everyone will confirm this, even Cellardweller. Please correct it. The subject cannot attack without breaking the spell but may use nonattack spells or otherwise act. This is the same as casting a Summoned Monster. the weapon attacks Not the caster of the spell. |
| Pitlords03-14-05, 10:02 PM | A summoned monster does not use your bab nor your wisdom nor would you have to check for SR if it attacks someone. Please believe me in this for I am 100% sure that I am right. Besides, that was the way we handled it from the beginning on in the CoCo. |
| cellardweller03-14-05, 10:06 PM | CoCo has always run SW as an attack spell (it is an evocation). |
| T'Var03-14-05, 10:07 PM | A summoned monster does not use your bab nor wisdom nor would you have to check for SR if it attack someone. Please believe me in this for I am 100% sure that I am right. Besides, that was the way we handled it from the beginning on. Firstly if you want to debate something please use your own account not the pitlord account. 2nd ive never seen sanctuary cast before here so there i sno frame of past reference since you nor the elders have set up an obscure rules database 3rd You have a vested intrest in this fight so I will wait until some of the elders speak up before I make any changes |
| Jindl03-14-05, 10:10 PM | Spiritual weapon is an attack spell (per the invisibility test) and does negate sanctuary. @Cat - I concur with T'Var about using your own account to debate a fight. |
| cellardweller03-14-05, 10:12 PM | Also darkness provides shadows in a short range around the target. Those inside the area recieve a miss chance, those outside do not. In effect it is an area effect blur spell. If Uhme is outside the area and targets Damon he has a 20% miss chance. If Uhme is inside the area and targets Damon he has a 20% miss chance. If Uhme is outside the area and Damon targets him there is no miss chance If Uhme is inside the area and Damon targets him there a 20% miss chance. |
| Caterane03-14-05, 10:13 PM | I am currently working on the FAQ and didn't want to switch back and forth. @T'Var: 1 GM, 2 Elders, and I am sure every other member concurs aswell. |
| Zepher03-14-05, 10:22 PM | Aeluath vs. Kiyo is up. Zepher, I tried to PM you about a contingency in your tactics, but never heard back, so I did the best I could. It's cool, I was out all week anyway (Spring Break), so I was not at the computer. |
| T'Var03-14-05, 11:06 PM | fixed |
| cellardweller03-14-05, 11:55 PM | Not requesting any changes, but I just wanted to make sure you saw the explanation of darkess above (for future reference). |
| Jindl03-15-05, 01:04 AM | @Sindorin - Re: Ripper vs Zubair, you do know that the bonus d6's to damage from deep crystal and psionic shot are NOT multiplied by a critical hit, right? The damage should have been 3d8+12 +2d6 +2d6 = 2+6+8+12+5+2+3+1 = 39 pts. -Jindl |
| spasheridan03-15-05, 01:28 AM | Borrix vs Rex is up. Check it over, take a peek, there was lots of blood in the arena this week. :D |
| Jindl03-15-05, 02:12 AM | The Rnd by Rnd fight for Rook Devange (Huan) vs Zactor (T'Var) [ECL3] and Cedric Fischer (Snommelp) [ECL3]: Jindl has been posted. I'll be adding the story over the next day or two. Let the argueing over what I did wrong commence: |
| Jindl03-15-05, 03:48 AM | Laph Jeirehneen (Pittbull) vs Dog-Boy (T'Var): Jindl is posted. There is some red ink on the PC's and tactics and some Pitlord suggestions, so please have a look. |
| Pittbull03-15-05, 06:39 AM | Sokai vs Necavi has been fixed. Sorry, Sindorin, same result. |
| T'Var03-15-05, 08:27 AM | Laph Jeirehneen (Pittbull) vs Dog-Boy (T'Var): Jindl is posted. There is some red ink on the PC's and tactics and some Pitlord suggestions, so please have a look. Im scrapping dog boy, he needs a total re-work considering the control shape skill. btw the riding dog isnt an ally it is what his animal form was |
| Sindorin03-15-05, 09:22 AM | @Sindorin - Re: Ripper vs Zubair, you do know that the bonus d6's to damage from deep crystal and psionic shot are NOT multiplied by a critical hit, right? The damage should have been 3d8+12 +2d6 +2d6 = 2+6+8+12+5+2+3+1 = 39 pts. -Jindl Yes I am aware of that now. I'll fix it when I get a break. |
| spasheridan03-15-05, 10:29 AM | @Odin- Looks like Elishar plans on using a scroll of sleep on Fineal. Before you go any further... um, Fineal is an Elf so ELishar probably would think of a better tactic. :D |
| OdinTheReaper03-15-05, 03:39 PM | Viper: Please resend tactics....your tactics were insufficient for this fight seeing as Fineal is an elf and all you put was to buff and put him to sleep. My connectoin has been very bad too. It wouldnt let me log in to the site earlier either. Im gonna run the fight soon so please send them asap. I will have this up before tommorrow DEFINITELY...... |
| Sindorin03-15-05, 03:45 PM | Looking at those tactics, I don't think Odin's assigned fight should be counted as late... I could imagine the nightmare of getting to the fight on Monday night and finding out that there aren't enough tactics to go around. I was going to try to help him with it, but things got really hectic around here. |
| spasheridan03-15-05, 03:55 PM | No worries from me about time, Fineal doesn't need much editing before his next match. Fyhir on the other hand... Monk, where are you?? :D As far as Elishrs tactics... I wont speak for him but his options seem limited. MM scrolls for range, scorching ray and hideous laughter for close in. Or he might have some super sneaky combo of obscuring mist and some animal crackers... |
| spasheridan03-16-05, 02:16 AM | @ MysticMonk- While I love winning battles, there are a few flaws in the match. Let's check em out: Fyhir: 34/34 hp 3/3 pp (6, -14) PF:E Va'rias: 9/9 hp (20, 0) MageArmor, Shield, PF:G Round 4: Va pulls out a scroll, but as she caughs instead of speaking the command word.(Natural 1, 10 wis check) Fy widdens the gap between the two, and tries firing one more time again only to see his arrow deflected yet again.(11+5-2 Vs AC 21) Fyhir: 34/34 hp 3/3 pp (6, -14) PF:E Va'rias: 9/9 hp (20, 0) MageArmor, Shield, PF:G The range at this moment is over 200 feet. The range of a magic missile spell CL 9 is 200 feet. VA would have to waste several rounds closing the distance to get this spell off. At this range you would be casting fireball spells, same result probably. Round 5: Va moves up again and tries the scroll again, and smiles as five balls of energy shoot forth.(1+1+1+3+3+5=14dmg) And the balls hit Fy's horse to moderate affect. Fy sees that his horse may not last much longer, and that he'll never hit her with arrows, so he manifests Precog, Offensive and moves in close while droping the bow and pulling out his sword. Your tactics are falling apart, and this is the best option I can see. Again, this is really fireball range not MM range. Well, I guess you could say that they're falling apart. I would say that they're working fine. The point of my tactics was denial. I had range, my opponent did not. My opponent has 9 hp so a single hit would have a 50% chance of taking her out. I was spending arrows while she was spending VERY expensive scrolls. I had 2 20 HP vigor stones to counter any lost HP. As long as I maintain a range of 200+ ft my opponent is efectivly neutered and I can take 30 shots waiting for the 20 to get rolled. Anywho, I'm not saying re-run the fight, with rolls like that it's just ugly. But you did run Fyhir almost the complete opposite of what my tactics were... |
| Sindorin03-16-05, 09:01 AM | To add to that, I specifically wanted Fireball to be cast first since it IS long range, and would probably do more damage to the horse than the MM9 would have done. Other than ignoring our tactics, it was an okay fight. If it went how it did that way, it probably would have been the same considering how our tactics were set up. I don't want a rerun since pairings are today because 1) I doubt it would be done in time, and 2) If Va'ria had won that fight she would level up and I don't want to deal with that right now. |
| spasheridan03-16-05, 10:56 AM | Hey Sindorin- Avg damage from your MM scrolls is 17.5 Avg damage from your fireball scrolls is 17.5 with a refl DC 14 for half. SO.. the MM is the better damage dealer. And it's cheaper. The only plus side of the fireball is the range and the area. :D @ Odin- Plz plz plz finish Fineal's fight before the pairings. :D Flip a coin if you have to. |

I guess that is true, but I wanted damage done to both at the same time, which the fireball would have accomplished. Sure, I could have hit multiple opponents with the magic missile, but it just wouldn't have worked the way I wanted... Add the natural 1 to the mix and I guess I was just supposed to lose. No biggy. |
| MysticMonk200503-16-05, 12:59 PM | I'm pretty sure that I counted the distance correctly. I'm sorry if you feel that I didn't follow tactics, I realy do try to follow them as best I can. As for the spells, I got the feeling that you wanted the MM's first. You said that you wanted the fireballs used if the MM's didn't take down the horse. The range for the MM's is 190 ft. and I have Ar move closer to get in range. I had you around 200 ft. Again, sorry for being so late. |
| OdinTheReaper03-16-05, 04:53 PM | MY CONNECTION IS FIXED YAY! The fight is posted without me getting kicked off. So sorry bout the inconvienience. I am taking this week off and not readying my characters. I will also not be pitlording for a long time, considering that every time i do....something bad happens and screws it up. I apologize for the mess. I hope everyone understands....Thanks. |
| spasheridan03-16-05, 05:41 PM | @Odin- Hey Odin, thanks for running the fight. I'm sure it gets busy sometimes, I'm glad that you got the match finished. There are a few issues with the match but they were on both sides ... |
