Common Knowledge:
Asran is an imposing figure. His skin is almost pure red and full of scaly ridges. Two large, ebony horns curve upward from his head. His huge bat-wings are usually folded at his sides and back in a manner that makes them appear as a crimson cape. He wears twin gauntlets specially designed to fit his claws and yet maintain their use, and he almost never removes his armor, a specially designed suit known as "Cania's Chill Ward" which appears as a glimmering suit of ice, weighs hardly anything, and provides him excellent protection. Unlike most Half-Fiends he does not need to sleep or eat - presumably a by-product of being raised in the Hells rather than the Prime, making his Fiendish blood stronger in him than his mortal blood. His frequent sneers (some would call them “signature sneers”) display his huge canines. No mortal as of yet knows of his precise ancestry or his mission, though he admits readily enough that his father is a devil. This makes him enigmatic to most, but his obvious power and lack of qualms about killing - and worse - tends to discourage anyone from investigating him further. Despite the fact that he is obviously only a Half-Fiend he frequent insists on being called “Archdevil”, claiming the title is his right by his heritage. Few see any point in contesting this, and fewer have lived to boast of doing so. He views his mortal blood as a taint, one which he actively seeks ways to remove from his body. He carries a silver symbol given to him by his father bearing his father’s seal, but shows it to mortals only when absolutely necessary (meaning few have seen it, and most who have are dead).
[i]Asran is the bastard son of the Archdevil Mephistopheles, the Lord of the Eighth. He was the product of his father’s brief desire for pleasure when on a “vacation” to the Prime. Once his father had learned via an imp spy that the woman he had been with had borne a Half-Fiend son (not but a month after his birth), however, the mighty Archdevil decided that such a tool was too potentially useful to pass up, and he immediately journeyed back to the Prime and slew the woman, taking Asran back to Hell with him.

Raised in the unceasing and intricate politics of the Hells, Asran has an acute mind. He frequently shadowed his father during his youth to learn more of the politics of the Hells. He was further trained in the art of combat as extensively as he could, on occasions even being sent off to skirmishes of the Blood War. This is what Mephistopheles thinks of as “sharpening the tool”, for his father intends to one day place Asran as Lord of the Seventh layer of Hell once he managed to remove Baalzebub from that position, then consolidate the power of his layer, his son’s, and Archduke Dispater’s into another rebellion against Asmodeus. Asran knows nothing of this, however. He has only one desire burning in his mind: to purge the human “taint” from his blood and ascend to the status of a full Archdevil, which his human blood denies him. He still forces others to refer to him by the title, however, since it is his birthright as the son of Mephistopheles (though of course he isn’t fool enough to demand that any Devil more powerful than he use it).

Recently, Asran has been sent to the Prime by his father. The purposes of this are several. First, he seeks to find a method to purge the human blood from his veins – for this his father advised that he study the arts of the “mortal fiends” (which actually has as much to do with Mephistopheles wishing to further his martial training as it does with his wishing for his son to achieve the status of a true Archdevil [which in truth he does not expect him to accomplish]). Second, he is to gather information on a mortal organization that has caught his father’s interest of late – the East Habari Trade Company. His father advised Asran to join them at first opportunity, and he is to spy on them and determine if they are worthy of his time. Mephistopheles intends to use them as a forward base and allies for one of his greatest aspirations – the conquest of the Prime Material Plane (though as he intends to do this only after killing Baalzebub, unseating Asmodeus, and subjugating the Abyss, it is unlikely that this will happen anytime within the next few… ages, really). Third, he is to seek out mortals who may be able to aid in causing the death of Baalzebub or Asmodeus – though Asran has great doubts that any such mortals exist. Fourth, he is to extinguish the life of any celestials he meets, for rumor has come to the Hells that some of the Seven Heavens are beginning to take an interest in the Prime again, and Mephistopheles wishes to discourage them from this as much as possible.

4: Sola Nicous (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8962425&postcount=543), Erithmu: Win [+1,350 xp] [+1,500 gp]

Feats
Combat Expertise
Weapon Finess
Improved Disarm
Exotic Weapon Prof: Spiked Chain

Feats
[1st lvl] COMBAT EXPERTISE [GENERAL]
Prerequisite: Int 13.
Benefit: When you use the attack action or the full attack action in melee, you can take a penalty of as much as –5 on your attack roll and add the same number (+5 or less) as a dodge bonus to your Armor Class. This number may not exceed your base attack bonus. The changes to attack rolls and Armor Class last until your next action.
Normal: A character without the Combat Expertise feat can fight defensively while using the attack or full attack action to take a –4 penalty on attack rolls and gain a +2 dodge bonus to Armor Class.
Special: A fighter may select Combat Expertise as one of his fighter bonus feats.

[fgt 1] WEAPON FINESSE [GENERAL]
Prerequisite: Base attack bonus +1.
Benefit: With a light weapon, rapier, whip, or spiked chain made for a creature of your size category, you may use your Dexterity modifier instead of your Strength modifier on attack rolls. If you carry a shield, its armor check penalty applies to your attack rolls.
Special: A fighter may select Weapon Finesse as one of his fighter bonus feats.
Natural weapons are always considered light weapons.

[3rd lvl] IMPROVED DISARM [GENERAL]
Prerequisites: Int 13, Combat Expertise.
Benefit: You do not provoke an attack of opportunity when you attempt to disarm an opponent, nor does the opponent have a chance to disarm you. You also gain a +4 bonus on the opposed attack roll you make to disarm your opponent.
Normal: See the normal disarm rules.
Special: A fighter may select Improved Disarm as one of his fighter bonus feats.
A monk may select Improved Disarm as a bonus feat at 6th level, even if she does not meet the prerequisites.

[fgt 2]EXOTIC WEAPON PROFICIENCY [GENERAL]
Choose a type of exotic weapon. You understand how to use that type of exotic weapon in combat.
Prerequisite: Base attack bonus +1 (plus Str 13 for bastard sword or dwarven waraxe).
Benefit: You make attack rolls with the weapon normally.
Normal: A character who uses a weapon with which he or she is not proficient takes a –4 penalty on attack rolls.
Special: You can gain Exotic Weapon Proficiency multiple times. Each time you take the feat, it applies to a new type of exotic weapon. Proficiency with the bastard sword or the dwarven waraxe has an additional prerequisite of Str 13.
A fighter may select Exotic Weapon Proficiency as one of his fighter bonus feats.

Inspire Competence (Su): A bard of 3rd level or higher with 6 or more ranks in a Perform skill can use his music or poetics to help an ally succeed at a task. The ally must be within 30 feet and able to see and hear the bard. The bard must also be able to see the ally.
The ally gets a +2 competence bonus on skill checks with a particular skill as long as he or she continues to hear the bard’s music. Certain uses of this ability are infeasible. The effect lasts as long as the bard concentrates, up to a maximum of 2 minutes. A bard can’t inspire competence in himself. Inspire competence is a mind-affecting ability.

• Small: As a Small creature, a halfling gains a +1 size bonus to Armor Class, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, and a +4 size bonus on Hide checks, but she uses smaller weapons than humans use, and her lifting and carrying limits are three-quarters of those of a Medium character.

Jimmy is not his real name, just what Tan prefers to call him. A bit of a "nerdy" goblin. Tan prefers to employ him over a human - as Tan declares Humans too tall to make good servents. Tan also speaks goblin making it easy to chat in private with his assitant. Jimmy's warrior training allows him to make a passing sparring partner for Tan.

Jimmy recently started spying on rival guilds for Tan. Tan approves of this, as it means Jimmy isnt hanging out making him look bad with the Red Lion Staff. Jimmy can of course be found in the stables, or the backlot, walking the dogs.. He never used to like to walk the dogs.. he must have gotten to like them!

Jimmy can act as an RP mole for any character. For a few silver he will tell most anyone anything he knows. He's out back, walking the dogs. Feel free to have him say mean and untrue things about people.

History

Character Background: Sketchy, a traveler for the east.
Tan is one hard nosed half-ling. Ruddy and rather bawdy. In combat he uses quips to bolster his courage, and distract his opponent. He performs in taverns, silly stories and acrobatics, occasionally jokes and political commentary. Tan appeared on stage wearing a foppish outfit, but recently he has been encased in his quarters training his dogs and .

Default Tactics: Dance like a butterfly, steal like a thief.
For refrence when no tactics are present, or when in doubt as to Tan's technique.

Team Tan!
Always take Max Allies (3 Dogs).
Hehe, thats Popper, Mario, and now Bradley.

Almost always uses Expiditious Retreet [2 mins] 50ft move, +8 Jump checks.
Inspire Courage [Maintained at least through the first round, persistant for 5 rounds after]

Scrolls of Shield (+4 shield AC) + Potions of ShieldoF (+2 deflection AC) + expertise (+3 AC, -3 Attacks ) + magical chain (+5 enhanced armor AC) + a quickness (+3 dodge AC) = +17!
Has always attached his backpacks onto Popper

Example Handle Commands,
Stay where I can find You - "guard" rock or pillar
HELP! - "defend" Tan and disregard previous command.
Get over Here (boy/name)! *whistle* - "come" to get something from the backpacks
GO! - "attack" for flank bonus.
Popper.. get me a potion boy... - DC25 Untrained Trick ???

Allways keep Mobile and Aware.
(moving through threat range with Tumble )
(AoOs through an monsterous threat range )
(The Boys are Damage and Soft Cover too! )

Popper has no fear! ;woot!;
Mario can breath fire! ;shifty;

Move med and large melee fighters slowely to a ledge where I can hop up and hit with a higher ground bonus... I've never seen it. Just curious, with the chain.. it might... wanna try it?

Could easily put a poor will save opponents to sleep with a two step Lullaby & Sleep spell combo. (Spontanious spells..) Tan has not tried it yet... (If you think it'll work..)

????The Four Basic Tactics????

Prestidigitation whenever I get a spare moment. No matter what.1
Dagger & Sling combo is the runaway mode.
Spiked Chain is the chase/stand mode. Provokes AoO on approach.
Take (if possible use) opponent items w/ Slight of Hand or Disarm attacks.

1 - Pending CLarification of Presdigitation functionality.

Traveled along way to get to Gladius. From a Land called "Styn." He sometimes speaks of a place called "the Grave" desert, and his Goblin speaks common just fine.

Tan is a "part time" instructor of the Arcane order. Most of his duties have thus far been to assist in the general re-organization and reformation in accordance with guild laws.

After Tan bought a second dog.. "the good money is on 450 gp instead of 300!" and then realized that he couldnt take two dogs into the arena at the first level. ... or can he?

Tan has determined that that brining the maximume number of allies into every fight will be worth the longterm investment.

After weeks of getting his hides handed back to him Tan took on 3 gladiators and WON! As every one knows.. Bards are best in groups!

After a week of living Large Tan regains his "failure" appelation. One Day! One Day!

Jimmy is going to get himself in a spot of troublesooner or later I imagine.

Two credits paid (Tan and Auburn's) for a challenge between the TAO and the WAR guild.

In the distance, the thick forest was daunting. Tan could barely hold back his dogs, as they wanted to run and frolic in the untouched nature. But there was clearly an unnatural presence here in the far reaches of the High Forest. The Gate of Aetern had opened, and a Gith army was mobiliaing here.

Three guilds banded together upon this news and sent some representatives in hopes of surveying and hopefully stopping such an event. The EHTC, the PSI, and the TAO were here, once again joining forces for the same cause.

Dronnar stood at the edge of the forest, his massive build making him look as thick as a tree. The trees in this part of the forest were thinner, and more spread apart. It was as if something had prevented the ecosystem from matching the growth elsewhere in the forest.

Tan was excited to be doing good work. As an agent of TAO, he had seen many strange things, but the idea of being a "hero" was something he could not turn down and was immediately ready to leave.

Asran was here, cloaked as to hide his true form(from natural creatures, as everyone here knew each other in some form or another). He took to the sky, watching overhead. A collection of bodies could be seen in the distance, adding on to what looked like ancient ruins, making a powerful, easily-defended fortress out of the trees.

Zwei used her demonic stealth to get closer, spying upon a small Githyanki force whipping some forest gnome and elves into building this monstrous structure. They were only 30% done, but once it was finished the Gith would have a stronghold for years to come. Her nature msde her want to travel inside, but foolhardy actions could prove fatal. It was time to brainstorm some ideas for halting progress of this castle....

Imagine a castle, with interconnecting tree forts, using also a connection of "hobbit-holes", in a beautifully designed defense structure, with which the ith could funnel out thousands of troops from the Astral to destroy Gladius. After a little RP we will continue.

Hovering in the air, Asran admired to Githyankis' work. "Most impressive," his thoughts ran through his mind. "As usual, the Githyanki take few chances. Ever the calculating warriors those ones. If they are allowed to finished this fortress it would take a powerful army indeed to drive them from it. The Giths know warfare almost as well as the Dark Eight. We are fortunate to have caught them this quickly." Flanked by Wrath and Malice, the two Furies disguised by a minor illusion much as he was (this one making them appear as large bats), the Half-Fiend descended, landing near the Half-Giant who was barely taller than he was. Folding his bat-like wings behind his back so that they looked much like a crimson cape, Asran waited for the others to gather before speaking.

His voice is level, giving simply the facts as he saw them. "The Giths are hard at work on this fortress even now, though I don't believe they spotted either me or the Furies, so perhaps they also aren't as watchful as they should be. Even so, by thier sheer numbers its evident that trying to sneak in isn't going to work, at least not all the way, and certainly not for all of us." The towering Half-Fiend glances meaningfully back and forth between the sprightly Zwei and heavily-armored Dronnar. "A frontal attack won't work either most likely - we'll meet too much resistance. We need a way to sabotage this construction so that it cannot be completed, or at least so that it has a major weakness when completed. Zwei, did you see anything of interest up close?"

Zwei slips back to the others keeping to what shadows are available and watches Asran's return with what might be amusement.

"They know what they are about," agrees Zwei speaking in slightly sibilant common for the benefit of their companions. "A frontal assault is out of the question, but it is possible that there are allies within their camp...at least temporary ones. If their slaves are not too broken in mind and spirit we might enlist their aid in return for a chance at freedom. Marcus' folk are excellent sneaks and clever enough. as for the elves, I wouldn't expect to see them unwilling to strike a blow at the Gith. "
Zwei looks thoughtfully back toward the construction site, "I think we might need Tan to be our emissary on that mission, though. I am not sure they would listen to me or believe that one such as myself would really be there to aid them," she shows her teeth by way of explanation.

Kneeling by the base of the tree, Zwei starts to map out what both she and Asran have seen to give a more clear picture of what they are facing. She carefully sets twig markers for the bands of slave labor and what guards they have noted. She digs small impressions for the openings of the 'hobbit holes'.

"I'd like to know how those tunnels connect underground, but I thought it better to return and report before going on any further explorations," flashing a humorless grin. "Someone had to be able to tell Baelin where I disappeared to this time...I know our brethren would never bother to come looking," she adds to Asran in infernal.

Not used to work in groups, Dronnar remains silent while his companions discuss strategies and plans. Not that he didn't have any ideas, only all this sneaking was not his style.

But, then, he knew this would happen when Raskos ordered him to come in this mission with two EHTC members. As always, he has obeyed the commands of his guild master, but the lack of action was starting to annoy him.

"If a frontal attack is not an option, and it clearly is not, then I think we need a diversion. Sooner or later we will have to fight, and if the enemy is confused and misinformed when we strike, we will have better chances to succeed."

He looks at each of his companions, waiting to hear what they thought.

Asran gives Zwei an amused look that with a turning of his mouth that is somewhere between a grin and a sneer as he replies in infernal. "Learned from that, did you? Good." Not adding anything further to that, he switches back to common to address the others.

"If they have many slaves already, they are moving quickly indeed. As Dronnar says, we must act soon. Freeing the slaves and using thier aid could prove highly beneficial, and not just in physically resisting the Giths - they likely know this construction as well as the Giths do, so one or another could point us to a good point for sabotage. And I agree that convincing them should be the Halfling's job - they aren't likely to react well to either Zwei or myself, even disguised as I am."

Turning to Dronnar, he says, "A distraction may work in our favor indeed, but what sort of distraction? Splitting up would merely leave us vulnerable. Sending the Halfling's dogs or the Furies would be a suicide mission in both cases - even if they merely tried to draw the Giths away, no doubt they have plenty of competant archers. Any suggestions aside from such?"

Before long, night had descended upon the fortress, and the slaves were coralled into a magically created large forcecage effect. The Gith held few watchmen, and they were mostly ignoring the slaves, as they had no means to escape. The slaves had built a number of small campfires to keep warm. The breeze of Autumn was bitterly cold in this region.

As Tan approached the battered slaves, an elderly elf stood up, his eyes shining bright with hope. He approached the edge of the magical cage, and began to speak to the TAO diplomat.

"Tell me you're here to rescue us! My brothers and I were taken from our village East of here, the dwarves from the mines to the south, and the humans were mere wanderers. We have worked almost non-stop for two weeks! Tell me you have an army that can destroy this menace! Anything that can be done, we will do it. But at the moment we lack morale and weapons. What is your purpose here?"

Zwei studies the lay out that she has made undisturbed by the gathering darkness. "If Tan gets more information on what lies below, and the slaves are willing to help, we might manage a distraction of sorts...and with enough of a distraction and an idea of where best to damage the structure, those of us with more ability to move covertly might manage to sabotage the entire affair with a minimum of direct conflict. It is a shame that the Gith do not sleep...it would be simpler if we could just slit their throats while they were unaware."

Looking thoughtfully at the lay out, she looks over to Asran, "Did you happen to spot any sizeable streams or rivers...or even marshy areas that might indicate underground rivers while you were up taking the birdseye tour? Dronnar might be able to destroy whatever shoring method they have used if there is water underground."

"I also have enough alchemist's fire to start a significant forest fire which might be directable enough to smoke them into retreat, but burning down the forest seems a last resort, and making fire breaks takes a lot of time and more than a little luck with wind conditions."

Zwei settles into an easy crouch and waits, still studying the lay out and occasioanlly moving bits around for effect.

For note, Asran was able to see an entry-point guard tower posted in every corner of the defensive post. The "hobbit-holes" seemed to extend from them, and the rive does in fact go underneath the castle. This map is the approximate look of the watchtower.

Asran nods at Zwei's suggestions. "A fine plan. A fire could indeed prove just what we need to distract the majority of the Giths, especially if the slaves revolt at the same time. I would suggest saving some of it in case we need it for the sabotage efforts though." The Half-Fiend clearly isn't bothered by the thought of what side effects such a blaze may have, though whether from confidence that the Giths would put it out or from simple lack of care for the fate of forest isn't entirely clear.

"I did see a river running right under the fortifications. That could indeed work to our advantage, though it is likely that they have such an area heavily defended. The Giths are no fools. It would be a good way to sabotage part of this fortress though, so it is worth looking into if nothing else."

Zwei frowns slightly and marks the river's passage with a line of leaves, "I prefer flood to fire. Our relations with the Living Tree are strained enough without burning down the forest. However, I don't think that any fire we might set is likely to do more than cause a nice uproar."

Zwei scatters her map after a moment's more study.
"If Tan isn't back in another candlemark, I am going to look for him and you two should head to another rally location. I don't know him wel enough to trust him not to betray our position to the enemy if caught. He seems stable enough, but I haven't any idea how much pain the little fellow can take."

The words were barely out of Zwei's mouth when two half pints and three shaggy dogs clammored into the clearing. Tan was arguing with Jimmy telling him to go.

Sorry sorry, your not safe Jimmy. Get outa here.
Fine, try and help ya'll and you say I'm just in the way....

The goblin was.. simpering.. for some reason he actually wanted to be there. Perhaps returning to his regular haunts without the protection of the nimbus frightened him more than the possibility of a Gith yanking his arms out of the socket.

All right guys, so I'll be right back. Get Jimmy to go home before some gith eats him for breakfast will ya? The halfpint hero winks a nod at Dronnar. The kind heart of the halfling obviously harboring no ill will .. even for his loss. Tan leaves his battle trained dogs with Jimmy and makes for the encampment. Seconds later his tiny form is nearly invisible. Sleek and small like a feather on the wind Tan sneaks up to spy on the camp.

Jimmy looks at the mighty warriors surrounding him.. and feels knee high to a pixie. He has a smirk for Dronnar. Jimmy always bets on Tan's fights.. but he never bets on Tan winning.

Asran merely shrugs at Zwei's comment. "Whichever we do, we must do quickly. When the Halfling gets back with information on the slaves we can decide which to use, or perhaps to use both, but he had best return soon if we are to get underway. We'll need the knowledge those slaves have to know where to strike while the Giths are distracted." As a precaution Asran orders Wrath to ascend back over the trees to observe the outpost and watch for any signs of enemies having spotted them or Tan, and the Fury moves silently to obey its master.

What is your purpose here?"

Tan spoke carefully, Ok, keep it down, but yes - we are here kick out the Gith, and yes freeing you is part of that equation... we may not be quite an army, but we fight like one. Tan kept his eyes sharp and his voice low. Make certain your people are ready to move in an instant. Try not to tip em off. In fact, Im not telling you when were comin in - I don't want you to look to anxious. Tell the leaders to keep everyone awake and make certain they are ready to move.. or be moved if necessary.

Tan counted the slaves, and the watchmen. When do they switch guard, dawn? Where are the commanders located? Do you know where their weapons are stored? The battle bard asked these and a few other pertinant questions of the elder elf before slipping back into the shadows. From the shadows he slinked back to his allies.

Jimmy looks around at the gladiators. He considers for a moment, then hesitantly walks up to the devil. He taps lightly at Asran's knee. Can you watch the dogs? I think I should maybe.. go, Tanin's probably right.. the small fellow was begining to realize that simply being with the gladiators was no insurance of safety. These mighty ones were themselves somewhat.. concerned about the success of their endevore.

Rising in one fluid motion, Zwei flanks the goblin and does her best demon face.

"Just get out of here, goblin," she hisses softly. "The mutts can stay with Dronnar. They are wise enough to know that Asran and I are not their friends. If you are not here to fight, get back to Gladius. If you are caught and spill your rancid little guts, it will not be the Gith you have to fear."

She flashes a fanged grin at him and notes with satisfaction that the dogs are already hiding behind Dronnar.

It takes a push even to get them to think about attacking an outsider. We demon-blooded are not a dog's favorite person ;)

The goblin squeeked and vanished so fast one might have mistaken him for a mage. Luckily if there was one thing that Jimmy could it was lie his goblin nose off. If he got cought he would "reveal their position" rapidly.. and incorrectly for long enough. The team had no intention to stay in this spot longer than it took for Tan to return with his logistics.

@ Mitza - Yeah, but you still have the highest Handle Animal in the group.. including Tan! ... oh drat! The Gith are outsiders arn't they.. drat, well... should I send the dogs back to Gladius? Do you think we might be able to get some use out of them?

The Gith aren't but Asran and I are. Dronnar may not handle animals as well, but they don't insitinctively hate and fear him, either.

Zwei watches the goblin go and hopes he can make his way home without getting caught. She has seen enough of him to know that he means well by his master, but that means little when torture and mindrape are both options open to the enemy.

"One glitch gone," she whispers softly before stepping a bit away to watch for Tan's return.

[i]I sure hope someone convinced Jimmy to go home[i] the halfling was trying to get back to the team with his info, but this really annoying Gith will not take his eyes off the best escape route Tan had available. Just a 20' patch of open ground that the athletic halfling had to cross. It will only take a couple seconds to cover that ground, but he needs to get out of this place without getting seen.

Tan had no fear of being cought, the arena hardned halfling was certain of his ability to escape capture, but if the Gith get any sign of the warriors (even Tan) they will arm themselves for an assualt. That is of course, the last thing the Gladosians want.

"The fortress has four outposts, which funnel out from a center room in the complex. Each outpost has some weapons, but the true cache is in the center room with the portal. Three Githyanki cooridnate troops and resources from in their. They call themselves the "Divine Destroyers." I'm not sure the significance of the name, but they display awesome power."

The halfing returns to the camp, and relays the information he gathered from the prisoners.

All right, so.... umm.. anyone think they can take down a force cage? What is that spell.. Mordeki's Disfunction? Tan proceeded to suggest an assault on one tower, combined with a distractionary flood to another. Tan seemed less than worried about these "divine destroyers" perhaps to his discredit. Pull em into two directions and then there we go! Practically done already!

"A force cage? That is bad news. None of us is a skilled spellcaster - we can't remove it on our own. We would need to wait for the release of the slaves in the morning if we want to have them revolt to help us." Asran taps his chin for a moment, considering. He has a feeling he should recognize the name "Divine Destroyers", but he can't quite place it, and this leaves him with an unnerving feeling. "The information they provided us will likely suffice. We can use a fire or flood to distract the majority of the Giths, then pick a tower and enter that way, taking out the guards there when we do. Then we hurry into the heart of the complex, deal with these "Divine Destroyers", and destroy the portal - that way they can't send troops directly into the fortress. With luck setting fire to that room, and maybe one or two others on the way out, will also aptly sabotage the fortress itself, particularly if we are quick enough that the Giths are still try to stave off the distraction."

"I don't like it. There is something we are missing, and I am not certain what it is. Let me think a moment," Zwei turns away from the others and stares into the darkness.

"The odds are not in our favor. I am no caster, and a force cage is beyond my expertise. I'd rather see about getting armament to the slaves...we know where they are working, and there seems to be little watch kept on their work sites at this hour. I propose that every spare weapon we have goes into concealed caches at the work sites. We should be able to do that much skulking without detection. As soon as the slaves start to haul rocks again, they'll be armed. They'll take heavy casualties, but if we use their move as the cue for our dstraction, we should be able to create a lot of chaos. Then we move on that central area, preferrably through the avenue closest to where our little slave rebelion should take place. That makes for fewer guards. I'd like to believe that all of the Gith are not disciplined enough to remain at their posts, but I am not a fool."

Zwei turns to look back at the others studying them and considering what they are about to attempt, then gives a lazy grin. "This is going to be fun."

"Does anyone here know if destroying the terminus for their portal will break it premanently?' Her casual tone makes it clear that this is what they were overlooking. Freeing slaves is all well and good, but if the gateway cannot be sabotaged permanently, the mission is over.
Zevox

05-05-06, 07:08 PM
"It should." Asran replies, thinking back to the portals to the planes that the Blood War was being waged on kept in secure areas of the Hells by his kin. "From what I understand of interplanar travel, only truely powerful wizards can open such gateways for any great period of time, and setting up one that is anywhere near permanent is a huge investment of time and energy. Unless a planar rift conveniently opens up for them to stabilize, destroying the recieving end of this gate should shut them down for a significant period of time. Of course, they may have more gates at other locations, but this one at least will be difficult to reopen."

"The bigger question is, is it possible for us to destroy it without a competant wizard around to analyze the gate's structure and enchantments? That, I do not know. Its possible my greataxe, Hell's Cleaver, enchanted and forged of metals from the volcanoes of Phlegethos as it is, may be able to rupture any physical portion of such a magical construct, but then again its enchantment may not be enough depending upon the strength of the gate's binding magics or the materials used in constructing it." Shaking his head, the Half-Fiend gives a resigned look. "Simply put, its impossible to know for sure. We'll have to try, however, else this whole expedition is over right now, and the Giths will have thier fortress."

His eyes straying back to the fortress in the direction Tan had returned from, Asran finishes by saying: "As for arming the slaves, that may be possible, if we have enough weapons and are willing to wait until morning to make our attempt. I have two battleaxes I can spare, though I'll want to retrieve them if possible on the way out, but nothing else."

Zwei nods resolutely and offers the first genuine smile, "We can cut a few staves to suplement the effort, and I can leave them tanglefoot bags to work with. Gith don't like light, and our soon to be allies will function better in daylight. It wouldn't be amiss to gather some stones appropriate for slings and I can spare a shirt to makeshift slings. Forest gnomes are deadly with a sling."

Zwei falls silent as she mentally tallies what they can spare or gather quickly.

"Improvised and self-made wood and stone weapons? They won't work overly well, but I suppose they're better than nothing. I'm no smith, but I can at least cut a few of the sturdier branches off these trees quickly." As if to support this statement, he draws forth his greataxe, Hell's Cleaver, and runs a taloned finger across the hell-forged blade. "Just tell me which you want and you'll have have your wood. 1. Spend the night creating/gathering weapons
2. Hide them for the slaves
3. Create Diversion(Need to specify)

Let your imaginations run wild. The crazier the plan the better the quest. Play this like there is anything you can think of available(within reason).

Hey! Slings! Thats a great idea! I have a short sword I never use, like thirty daggers... er not thirty.. but wait... how are gonna get the force cage down again? Hey they could use slings from inside the force cage! The happy halfling whistled for popper, retrieved his backpack and started rummaging.

@ KU - How many slaves were there? and one more thing...

Tan started thinking about the gates and the cages, something.. something, there had to be something that he knew about the githyanki that would come in handy here... BARDIC KNOWLEDGE! AWAY!

"The slaves will be let out of their cage when work resumes, Tan. By then we will have arms hidden among the stone they are hauling and concealed at the build site. When they arrive, we set a nice toasty fire to get their attention wandering...perhaps two fires. Did anyone see any sign of their food suppy storage? Burning that would be an exceptionally nice distraction... her voice trails off as she considers another notion.

"A dozen or so stave lengths should do..."she responds gesturing toward trees away from the fortress."Not too many lengths from too close in, nor more than one or two from the same tree."

"Once this goes south, we need to avoid being distracted by peripheral guards if at all possible. Short, swift, brutal engagements and then we move on. No splitting up of targets, no heroics. Hero is a word fo someone that gets others killed."

Once we have as much info as you are going to give us, we set ready for the rebellion. I will choose a couple of nice spots to set blazes. My thinking on the flood option was actually one that would destroy the fortress itself...release an undergroung river from its containment, and the building will at worst become uninhabitable, at best its foundation will crack and hte whole structure will come down. Once the chaos gets nicely underway, we gather together and go for the least defended of the tunnels. We stay together as we are up against higher odds and splitting up just means easier targets. The tunnel approach should limit the number of targets we face at once.

Oh! I get it! Right! You have slaves for a reason, not being a slave owner I hadn't thought of it. I was thinking of them simply as prisoners. Der! Tan! Tan smacks his forehead. Well.. I better get started! As the team gathered weapons and stowed them in Tan's backpack the meddlesome dogooder perstered the devil's child. Wise cracks, cutting asides, and the ocasional direct insult. All quite witty I assure you. Tan likes to remain "in control" of a conversation with someone he (at best) considered the lesser enemy of his worser enemy.

Before the miniature militant departed he had an honest peice of his mind for the feindish compatriot. Look here demon were together on this. Gladios is a holy land. The nimbus is proof of that. How you live there I don't know. Somehow these bastards have blotted out the halo sun, but they are not getting away with it! The erratic fires that burned in the hero's heart shot sparks at the undying thing in front of him. Tan didn't know the difference between a tiefling and an assimar, let alone a devil and a demon.

I follow your lead, and I will be ready to rally the slaves on your command. If I get anyone killed.... it'll be me. Now I want you to watch the boys. Dronner doesn't know how to give clear commands. Tan told Zwie the boys' command words. You know how to boss that big bat around, a dog aint no differnt... well it doent have wings.. but! With that Tan sped off into the darkest part of the night, to plant the seeds of revolution like a jolly gnomish saint.

You can still command the dogs, even as an outsider. I'm pretty sure, maybe one of them there -4 penalties. Where does it give that "no outsiders" thing again? I recall seeing it, but I believe thats just they won't attack you. Nor like you, nor probably defend you. But pushing them to do things... Im pretty sure.

@ Uther - Can the devil push the dogs? I'm certain they won't go within 30' of her, but with the command words - they should still attack things and what not. "Follow" "Stay" "Fetch" that kind of thing.

Before Tan could leave, Asran grabbed him by the shoulder and narrowed his eyes at the Halfling and gave him a fang-filled sneer, speaking in a whisper just loud enough for him to hear. "First, understand right now that if you weren't needed for this mission you wouldn't be breathing at this moment. Second, why I am in Gladius is no concern of yours, and you would do well to learn not to question such things. Third, the Furies are no mere mortal "bats" - they are merely disguised as such so as not to alert the wildlife or our enemies upon sight. They obey me because they are my servants, and I assure you they are quite intelligent despite lacking the power of speech." As if in confirmation of this, Malice glides by on its patrol of the perimeter of thier work area, fixing Tan with a baleful stare. "If you think ordering your animals around is anything akin to commanding the respect of a true Baatezu then you are more foolish than you act, and that would be a difficult thing indeed."

"Now, I suggest you relay our intentions to the slaves, but do not even think of joining them tomorrow morning. We need everyone we can get if we intend to defeat the Gith guards, even if its someone whos sole purpose is distractionary. These beings may not be true immortals, but underestimating them is not wise." As Asran releases him, Tan realizes there are tiny specks of frost on his shirt where the Half-Fiend's clawed hand had been. What that may mean he has no idea, but he doubted it could be anything good.

Sorry Book5, it just doesn't work RP-wise. Asran could handle and push them just fine, but it makes no sense for him to be ordering around dogs - he considers humans beneath him, why would he be willing to take any notice of animals? Besides, why can't Tan do it, since the party needs to stick together for these encounters anyway, and the dogs don't really need to do anything while hes relaying messages?

@ KU - I'm ready for the fast-forward any time now. I think the plan is pretty much in place: arm slaves, set a fire or two, incite rebellion, attack through tunnels while majority of the troops are distracted and destroy the portal (maybe also setting a few rooms on fire whil we're at it).

Quick inventory of weapons to be dropped off (just for my own amusement if nothing else):
Asran: MW Silver and Cold Iron Battleaxes
Tan: 10-12 daggers, shortsword, maybe those shortspears in his pack too?
Zwei: Tanglefoot bags
Hand-made extras: 12 quarterstaffs, a few slings with sling stones (maybe provide some of Tan's bullets along with the improvised ones)

Staying at a distance, the motley crew(not to be confused with the band) stood at a distance, giving the leader of the slaves a chance to rally his friends. The time of a rebellion was at hand.

At 1000' from the Western outpost, Asran uses the furies to carry torches to predetermined spots as picked by Zwei and Dronnar. Limited damage, but effective at being a true distraction. The blaze caught quicker than anyone realized. The line of fire grew exponentially, and being early in the morning the Gith were somewhat caught off-guard. A small collection of casters began to rally around the blaze, getting in a line like a group of archers to fire off streams of water. When they began the first wave of water, a collection of sling stones rained down as if from heaven, knocking out some of the weaker Gith. The slaves started their own personal war.....

As the sling stones began to connect, the remainder holding melee weapons made their charge, and within moments had eliminated the majority of the arcane casters currently portaled here. It was a huge blow of morale! Troops began funneling out of the center structure. At that point the slaves were outnumbered 3:2. It was clear the slaves were doing all of the work and that the army had not yet assembled fully from the Astral Plane.

It was then they made a line towards the West outpost. With as much going on as there was, the small remaining faction of troops were ready for a fight, hiding behind the debri throughout the room.

Now is the time! You imprisoned in glass throw your stones! The halfling holler was loud and clear. His crisp tenor a silver bell in the dawn. For Gladius!

Hold this tower and we hold Gladius! Tan was not running his usual hammy nonesense, today he turns the high chant to its true purpose...war.

When we get back to town party at the Red Lion! If you get yourself killed your tabs on me! Well he may have degenerated into some hammy nonesense.

Tan team tactics - move me and the boys in and around to the right. Heading for the stairwell. Use the boys as soft cover, and keep up the yelling. Move (ready to strike) move (ready) move (ready) should get me there.

Ready to disarm on approach, unless they are casters... if so try ready to disrupt. In four rounds I want the boys guarding the stairwell - from both directions. I suggest one fiend with me, dronner take left with the other fiend. Double up and we should be able to take Gith one and two out ... the double flank gith3. If I am flanking w/any allies - strike to aid other...making sure the better damage rolls hit eh?

Can I get a basic arms count on our three opponents?

Zwei will move to make certain that Gith3 does not make it to the stairs. Tan is going right, Zwei is going to go left to intercept.
She'll take a shot with the crossbow then move to keep any of the Gith from getting to the stairs. She is comfortable relying on Dronnar and Asran to keep Gith1 and Gith2 bottled in from the doorway. If one of them seems to be a caster, ready a shot to interrupt casting. INc lose combat open with stunning if they are holding anything worth makinghtem drop it and then flurry.

"Tan flank 'em and keep the dogs on 'em. Save your grandstanding for the wenches at home," Zwei's tone is all business now, though she spares a glance to make sure the half pint hero is listening and obeying...if he failed she wasn't sure that she would bother stopping Asran from cutting bits off and dining on them. "Keep them off those stairs."

Squares are 10', All gith have a longbow equipped, with a melee weapon ready to draw as follows:
Gith 1: Guisarme
Gith 2: Greatsword
Gith 3: Longsword and short sword
All also have a dagger sheath by their boots.

Didn't include allies on map for current convenience.

The quickest Gith fired an arrow immediately, piercing Asran's infernal skin, (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=444251) a wound he did not take lightly. (Damage: 6(yes magical))

Tan reacted quickly, darting around the side of the boxes with his guard dogs, readying to disarm his opponent should he go for melee.

The furies began to act their part, gliding swiftly in the sky towards their prey. Wrath could only base, while Malice flew head first for a bite. The slow reacting Gith had a huge chunk taken from his shoulder. (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=444253) (Damage: 11)

Zwei begins to fan to the left, ignoring the closest Gith in favor of the one who might rat them out. She raises her arms, nestling the crossbow in with perfect aim. The bolt flew through the air, directly underneath Malice, hitting the Gith in the stomach. (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=444256) (Damage: 8)
The lightly armored Gith scout quickly learns the price of slow reaction as his sense fail and he falls unconscious.

Dronnar moves, running up the steps to reach the Gith on the right. He gives out a menacing howl as he brandishes his greatsword in both hands. (Felt like the right thing to do based on the situation.)

At that time the closest Gith turn to Wrath and began to strike. The Guisarme comes down hard, but stops as the fortitude of the baatezu proves invulnerable. (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=444259)

Annoyed by the arrow, Asran quickly snapped the shaft before calling upon his fiendish heritage, releasing an ability that had a translucent shield appear hovering before him with a dull whining sound. Advancing quickly he draws his ever-bleeding battleaxe, Hell's Bleeder, a look on his face that leaves no doubt that he plans on enjoying this.

Zwei watches with satisfaction as the gith falls and then turns to face Asran's target for a single shot before headig to make sure the stair is clear. The slight wince at Dronnar's racket shows her displeasure at the idea of yelling battle cries to potential foes waiting on the stairs.

The quick Gith pulled out a short sword, cutting into Dronnar. (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=446673) At the last moment, he curved the blade and gashed him deeper. (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=446678) (Crit damage: 9)

Tan began to run, reaching more than the halfway part of the tower. His dogs were leading the way, Popper almost enjoying the race between them.

Asran defensively conducted himself, while the Furies began to gnaw at the Guisarme-wielding Githyanki. (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=446673) One of them bite the tiop of his head, pulling him. (Damage: 8)

That was when Zwei saw the opening, she fired a shot, (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=446673) the bolt flying perfectly between Malice's fangs, entering and exiting the throat of the Githyanki, helping the Fury separate the enemy's head.

Dronnar took the greatsword, moving his hands to the edge of the handle for more power. He swung it with a terrible warcry, filling the room with sound echoes. The blade connected, sure enough, catching the Gith at the waist. Dronnar moved the blade upwards, cutting through the Gith until his torso became subject to gravity. It was a bloody death.

In the heat of the moment, they had killed all three Gith without a moment's notice. Almost surprised at their quick succes, they didn't know exactly what to do. But the intensity of the situation gave in, and they began to move as fast as their bodies allowed. The sounds of war could be heard outside.

"I take a few seconds to give Wrath and Malice thier orders and I miss all the fun? These guards must have been ill-trained. Perhaps the Giths have been holding thier elites back on the Astral and sending the expendables as the establishment force..." the Half-Fiend considers this for all of a second before realizing it is the logical conclusion. If the Giths had sent thier elites out first they would risk having them fall should an army descend on them as shortly after they leave the portal, which would hurt them considerably. Send just a sufficient number of expendable recruits and youths overseen by a few elites, however, and they ran no such risk. "Ever the calculating warriors indeed." he mutters.

"Wrath, Malice, with me. We should hurry and finish this as quickly as possible." Taking just long enough to remove the remainder of the quarrel from his scales and use his wand to close the wound, Asran continues with the others, sheathing the wand again as he goes.

Asran uses one charge of his wand to cure 5 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=446808) hp. Currently at 30/31. If Dronnar asks he can him as well.

"Here, Tan, Zwei passes Tan a CLW potion and moves to make sure that all of the Gith are dead.

"Any of us can be taken if taken quickly and unaware. Overconfidence leads to defeat," her tone is once again matter of fact as she examines the corpses' possessions for anything that might be of use below. "We should move on as soon as Tan is feeling better. I agree with Asran that this is best done quickly. I'll take point. THe rest of you keep that circus quiet and stay at least 15 yards back."

Tan took the potion, looked at it, patted himself down, and decided he wasn't going to pester the testy devil with questions. Instead he tosses the potion to Dronner and steps foreward retrieving her wand... instead.

Look. I will give this back, but it would be more useful in my hands. The untouched halfling speaks boldly from beside dronner, who should be feeling fine in mere moments. He was eyeing the Gith for anything of use. Any psionically or magically charged devices, scrolls, sticks, gems, and etc.

Not seeing anything of worth - Tan started giving a command to the dogs (unintelligible) pushing them to be as silent as possible. The words were a stynian saying, a language that Tan rarely found the need to use. He knew from experience however that telling the boys to be silent in common. Always worked when grandma said it.

So its fast break to the end of the line? In that case, hop on mario and tell popper to defend dronner. FULL SPEED AHEAD!

Devils? Do we want to pace ourselves? Let Tan scout to tunnel opening before flying running into the room? We will probably get suprise if we play it right.

"Very well. We will need everyone in top condition if these Divine Destroyers turn out to be true Gith elites." He taps the wand on Dronnar's wound twice, closing it over quickly.

At the Halfling's attempt, Asran merely returns the wand to its place in his belt pouch before the Halfling can grab it. "I think not. Whether you can use such devices or not, I'll not entrust our best source of healing to one who is prone to foolish heroics. Those potions will have to do if I for whatever reason can't reach anyone who is wounded in mid-battle."

2 charges for 6 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=447322) and 7 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=447322), Dronnar is now at full.

Sneaking probably won't work. Zwei is good at it and Asran and Tan can do it fairly well, but as soon as Dronnar starts moving you can guarantee they'll here him, which means no surprise round (not to mention that the Furies have that size penalty to hide). Probably best to charge in full force.

P.S. Had me confused for a moment there with the wand comment Book. Asran's a he, not a she - I thought you were talking about Zwei for a few minutes.

"We. are. not. rushing. that. tunnel."

She gives the words a moment to sink in before going on, "If you all stay at least 45 yards behind me, it would take a very sharp eared Gith to hear you. We cannot be sure that our intel on what is down there is accurate. I am not charging into a force cage, fortification trap, or possibly a dead end. I trust those slaves to fight for their own lives. I do not trust them to care what happens to ours once they are free. Keep the circus back and quiet. I shall fall back and tell you what is there before we make any hasty charges to our doom," her eyes narrow as she focuses on Asran.
"You are prone to making hasty decisions based on your own 'superior' heritage. Tan is regrettably prone to fits of fanciful glory. And Dronnar (tone is slightly apologetic) is not likely to hide or move silently into a spying position to save anyone's life. I would frankly prefer to go quietly ahead alone and keep you here in a defensible position while I scout, but I am not foolish enough to believe you'd wait here."

Without another word to them, she turns her back and slips silently down the stairs hoping that there is enough gray matter between them all to figure out the sense of her words.

@ Mitza - just to note, no one actually recommended rushing anywhere IC. That was just an offhanded remark I made OOC. Makes that last post a bit awkward, since it makes it seem as though Zwei's telepathic or something ;) .

Asran winces at Tan's yell. "Keep your orders quiet, Halfling, or this endeavor at stealth will end very quickly." He says in a low tone. He follows closest behind Zwei, about 30 feet back, Wrath and Malice gliding in virtual silence only five feet behind him. He feels rather out of his element here as far as sneaking goes - he was trained for stealth in planes like the Bleak Eternity of Gehenna or the Taterian Depths of Carceri, not in the middle of a relatively empty Gith fortress on the prime. Still, his training served him well enough. Unless the Giths were sharp-eared indeed it would be difficult for them to hear his passage.

Zwei moved swiftly and silently, (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=448171) keeping to the edge of the wall as if to remain hidden. As she neared the end of the hobbit-hole, she saw thetip of the portal. It had a green metal attached at the peak of the arch, its ancient energy flowing from top to bottom. A strange metal indeed. The portal was a solid 80ft from the furthest Zwei could travel. She halted the progress of those behind her. A Gith, at least 2 feet taller than any others, stood with a massive falchion on the other side of the gate. He was speaking with another Gith, wearing full mage robes. It sounded mostly silent with the occasional jibberish.

1. Share layout with the others. 2. tap inertial and force screen. 3. Mage is first target for Tan and I. Start with readying shot to interrupt casting and then head for a grapple...gith+caster=likely low strength. Asran and Dronnar are best to handle the big sword boy. Work to use flanking to our advantage. If I can get within charging distance of the caster, I am willing to take the charge to get him grappled and stop him from casting. Obviously discard crossbow if going for the fast grapple. Try for stunning fist if caster is holding anything worth makinghim drop it.

Zwei pulls everyone back and describes the layout in a soft whisper and makes her suggestions for tactics.

Asran likewise nods in understanding. Replacing Hell's Bleeder on his belt, he removes his greataxe from its sling on his back. "We'll see if that oversized Gith is as threatening without his weapon." he whispers, running a finger along the edge of the hell-forged axe.

And on Zwei's mark...

Asran takes to the sky, the Furies flapping quickly at his heels. He holds Hell's Cleaver in his hands, the powerful greataxe practically begging to be used on his enemies. Pointing at the large Gith in a silent challenge he tightens his grip on the axe as he eyes the falchion, a malicious smile on his face.

Actions are to double-move into the air (at least 10' high) so that Asran has a lane for a diving charge at the big one next round (dive will be to sunder the falchion, not an attack on the gith himself). The Furies will be following per thier last orders, so once anyone attacks Asran thier defend trick will kick in, no need for him to issue attack orders.

This is a surprise round.

Zwei begins moving around the corner, no longer worried about stealth but about quick striking. She steadies her crossbow, in hopes of catching the caster off guard and disrupting his ability to control the flow of battle.

Tan, mounted upon Popper, rides quickly out from behind the antique pot. He readies himself for any surprises, hoping to catch any ambushers off guard. Mario follows behind, doing guard duty.

Dronnar, entirely buffed up to ready himself for the big battle, ran as fast as he could. Trying to keep up with the rest of the group in hopes of tipping the scales of the battle in their favor as much as possible.

Asran took to the sky, with the furies right above him. He held his axe firm, ready to cut down the giant gith's weapon.

As he did, the ground shook, swallowing up the hole in which they got here. It was at that time they two gith really took notice, turning around to face their attackers.

I see no reason to change plans either. Asran'll take an AoO from his charge, but it'll be worth it if the falchion breaks (note to self: take cross-class rank in tumble at next Ranger level). Diving it he has a +20 to the opposed check and does 2d12+20 damage, ignoring hardness if its less than 20, and he can sunder any weapon with a +1 enchantment or no enchantment, so unless this thing is adamantine or at a +2 enchantment he should manage it. Only thing worth noting is that if Asran takes a heavy blow before his turn comes around (from the wizard or this ??? thing most likely) I may want to change to doing something else so the AoO doesn't threaten to kill him outright.

As an aside, his AC is 26, not 24: 10+3dex+6armor+1natural+4shield(Force Screen)+2deflection(SoF).

Tan really does hold a large likeability factor to him.

Dronnar delays, waiting for Asran to strike.

The large Gith moves up towards the portal, as if to guard it.
"Succort, this is not a game, come out and fight with your brethren."

Tan moves around where Zwei did, keeping tabs on the wizard for now and readying his attack as well. He felt the tingling on the back of his neck, as if something was wrong with this scenario. Mario was acting as if there was more danger around than could be seen...

The wizard, with a coy smile, accepts the finger of fate pointed as her and begins to cast a spell. The bolt hit her in the chest (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=450449) , but with great resiliency she kept the spell, unleashing it upon Zwei. A great shadow demon leaps from the ground, a terrifying sight. It touches Zwei. Zwei's mental awareness fails her, (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=450455) but she manages to keep her calm instead of dying from a heart attack. (Damage: 14)

The Furies dive, hitting the large Gith, but both do not connect on the heavily-armored warrior. (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=450464) They do, on the other hand, detect an extra presence to the North, lurking around Tan. In Infernal they tell Asran.

Quickly ordering Malice to direct its efforts towards the invisible foe the Half-Fiend turns his own towards the large Gith before him, giving a cruel smile. "That blow would have felled many a Tanar'ri. I'm going to enjoy cutting you down." Asran then unleashes another mighty blow, his grin only growing larger at the screech of metal on metal that issues as the hell-forged axe clashes with the astral falchion.

Dronnar goes, moving and expanding himself.

A quick-striking attacker comes behind Tan, but with perfect reflexes Tan deflects the attack before it pierces his skin. (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=451761)

Tan's deflection follwed through into a disarm, knocking the short sword onto the ground. (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=451768)

Zwei launches her body at the caster, wrapping her strong legs around the mage, wrestling the GIth to the ground. (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=451763) (Damage: 7)

Dronnar charged the GIth, reaching his weapon around Asran for the attack. His blade hit a vital spot, (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=451789) and when the Gith reacted, Dronnar shoved the blade through his skull. (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=451794) (Crit Damage: 43)

Tan, having knocked the roguish GIth's blade away, moved to attack the grappled mage while Mario put himself between Tan and the new enemy. He brings the spiked chain down on the mage, cutting him on the cheek to draw blood. (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=451799)

A fireball scorches the area, after the mage successfully holds concentration. (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=451805) It hits everyone, with Asran, Dronnar, and Popper taking the full flame damage. (Asran takes 21-10=11, Wrath, Malice, and Tan take 10 damage, Dronnar and Popper take 21 damage)

The situation has changed somewhat, so I'm going to let Zevox change ASran's action.

Boys! Tan screams as the confliguration consumes his pets. The heart of the hero was torn between coming to their aid and ending the conflict. His common sense overrode his sensibilities and he remained on the assault. With the bruiser down and the mage under Zwie's control Tan turned his attention to the rouge Gith.

Holler if you need a heal! The meager magics available to Tan included healing magic - magic he had saved to this point just in case. He stands between Zwei and the rouge. His chain spins menacingly. Its lighting like strikes barely perceptable to the naked eye.

Ideally the rouge will provoke - if not go ahead and hit him. Next round go heal whoever asks - if anyone asks.

Kill the wizard is first priority over everything else including healing. If the ruling currently allows (keeps changing and I am too lazy to check it) go ahead and flurry him. Once he is dead, drop darkness...I do not like sneak attacks!

Mind rolling for Asran's SR 13 to avoid any damage from that fireball?

Only slightly annoyed by the fireball thanks to his fiendish resiliece to such effects, Asran shrugs casually as if loosening his muscles and mutters "Killjoy," with a sidelong glance at Dronnar. Deciding the others wouldn't last long if the wizard were permitted to continue assaulting them, Asran grips Hell's Cleaver tightly and rushes and the grappling Gith and Tiefling, aiming for his exposed back, and plants the axe expertly into his spine, a diabolic laugh escaping his lips as the blade cuts into Gith flesh.

Action: charge grappled Gith wizard. Attack 26 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=452422), damage 12 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=452422). Wrath and Malice should probably attack him too due to thier defend trick, if he survives.

I have a lot of time tomorrow night devoted to the 3 frozen quests. In order to ensure everyone is ready for Wednseday, I'm ending all three tomorrow by writing a long story about the final fight, etc...

Just give me an idea of what your character wants to do, however cool or interesting, and I'll write it in. This battle will have numerous opponents and be fun to read about, this I promise. Just give me some pointers if you get the chance and I'll try and do your character justice.

Well, since these are totally off-the-map quests, I honestly don't think not finishing this before pairings would have any affect on if characters are permitted in the pairings, but here you go:

Hack up the wizard with Hell's Cleaver, ordering one of the Furies after the rogue. Once the wizard's dead, drop globes of darkness to hamper the sneak attacker, one on Asran's armor, maybe for fun others on Tan and Dronnar if they're not in the radius of that one (Zwei can look after herself in that regard). Then switch to Hell's Bleeder and start ripping into him with axe, claw, and tooth, using the Furies target location to ferret out Mr. Invisible. If anybody else shows up via that portal, cut 'em down, maybe with a sunder thrown in for spice. If you're still rolling this rather than just writing, heal as necesary of course, and apply healing to others if they call out for it and the wizard's dead. Then use Hell's Cleaver to try and destroy the portal, Hell-forged enchanted metal vs Astral-forged magic device. Do a dive with it if the thing proves stubborn :D .

Said it all last time. I will add to Asran's sentiments taht I wnat to see to the safety of the non-EHTC'ers a bit. It is good PR for the guild. I wnat them to leave feeling like EHTC is solid to go to war with rather than against.

So your saying Asran is gonna try and save Tan's life? Well that could certainly start something interesting! Umm, Tans outa inspires - but he has full spellcasting power. Umm - I would like to see him fight in-concert with someone else - that is how he is designed. Anything dramatic - seeing as he is "too tired to be funny" eheh.

Don't get any ideas - he has his reasons for wanting everyone to survive this, and they aren't identical to Zwei's ;) .

The Furies and Zwei began to fully assault the wizard. The Furies did indeed begin moving the grapple into the air, but Zwei being as stubborn as she is, she stayed with it. After a few moments of bone-breaking, the mage became unconscious and easily was slain by the bat-like creatures.

Tan turned around, watching as the roguish Gith charge him with the shortsword. In a cunning display of combat strategy, wrapped his spiked chain around the forearm of the Gith, whipping it up until the charging rogue found the short sword embedded firmly with his skull. Everyone was stunned at his improvement, but he felt satisfied that his practice was working.

........................................ ........................................ ...............................

The battle sounds were ocurring upon the roof. Dronnar and Asran, with their combined strength, shattered the portal orb, closing it off from further armies. Tan and Zwei led the way upstairs, watching as the farmers were being slain with ease by the more powerful remaining Gith.

Tan whipped the chain underneath two Gith whose backs were turned. They were firing magic missiles at the slaves down below. As he yanked hard, the arching mages fell face first, slamming their teeth into the stone wall then succumbing to gravity. The incredibly loud sound of bones breaking confirmed the death of the two. A large gith, surprising Tan from behind, picks him up and throws him off of the edge. Tan floats for a moment, seeing his life flash before his eyes. As his face begins to feel the tip of the grass his body is yanked upwards, caught by the flying devil.

Asran dropped off the halfling, continuing his flight for the leader in the distance. Around him was 5 dead bodies of slaves, recently killed himself. The leader saw Asran coming, and pulled out his longspear in preparation for the devil's attack. He looked confident and strong, and when Asran descended he held out the spear. Asran took Hell's Cleaver, and with one stroke drove it through the spear, severing his foreign head as well. The Gith's blood began flowing as a dam with a big leak in it.

Three of the remaining Giths upon the roof quickly leapt at Zwei. She ducked low, swing her weight back and grabbing the one to her left with her legs at the knees. With her wiehgt leaned towards the edge, as her enemy followed her he was flung off the ledge, death awaiting him. She then finished the flip, standing upon the armored Gith's knee. She did another backflip, connecting on the Gith's jaw with her right foot, breaking his neck. With only one opponent left, she used her powerful defense to throw the attacking Gith behind her, right into Dronnar's grasp.

The half-giant could barely go up the stairs. When he did, the first thing he saw was a halberd-wielding Gith eyeing him. The Gith was quick, and in a matter of seconds had indeed stabbed Dronnar. Angered at the injuries sustained, Dronnar grabbed the Gith by the torso, slamming him into the wall. It was then his senseskicked in, and reached behind his back to grab the Gith flung by Zwei. Using the new enemy as a club, she beat the pinned Gith to death with her new club's head until the bloody stumps were unrecognizable.

As the dust cleared on the battlefield, a total of 10 slaves remained, all weary from work and battle....

Zwei stretches and surveys the scene noting casualties and possible sources of reinforcements. "I want to see the underground water freed into the lower areas to collapse this heap and make certain it is never usable again. I also want to see to it that our erstwhile allies," she nods toward the remainder of the slave contingent, "are safely supplied and away. None of us should be here when and if the Gith send a party to find out what happened to this lot."
She gives no sign of pain or even noticing her own condition. The business of organizing the final destruction takes precedence over silly things like healing.
"Tan, perhaps you are best to speak with the former slaves. I doubt they will be kindly disposed to me regardless of what has passed here. Dronnar, I think we'll need your brute muscle to free the water below. Asran, if you and the Furies could search the dead for anything further of use or information?" she barely waits to see if the others are in agreement or not before heading down to seek the best point to free the underground river and destabilize the foundations.

We won! The halfling was leaping for joy I'm Alive! Despite the burns that covered his body he danced. His weary eyes looked about as if he expected the nimbus to reappeare with their victory confirmed. No such miracles occured. The motly crew had stopped the invasion, but it was the task of others to return the power of the nimbus.

As the heat of battle starts to cool, Dronnar regains his best senses. These giths weren't the best opponents he had faced, but have proved worthy (at least, they didn't run facing certain death...)
He thougth that destroy the base was pointless now, even a waste, since gladosian forces could take the place and use it as an outpost, but, too tired to argue with Zwei, he simply followed her for whatever plans the planetouched had in mind.

Asran merely nods. His objectives here have been accomplished, so he is content to let Zwei run things as she wished from here on out. His hand strays to his pouch, grasping the seal within for just a moment before he goes about the searching of the dead, making sure to retrieve his axes from the corpses of those who had wielded them in the process.

Zwei leads Dronnar below to find the best place to destroy the shoring of the underground stream. Once they find the best point, she gives him a weary smile. "We smash here, then head for home. The water will destabilize the foundation over time and cause the entire complex to be nothing more than a pile of rocks for Mother Nature to reclaim."

The sky loomed overhead, the stars brighter than they have been for some time. The air was cooler. They returned home, weary from a long journey. But there was no parade awaiting them. No celebration. Irigon, Second in Command under the General of Gladius, awaited them upon entering the city with a group of elite guards. Holding a piece of parchment for each of them, he handed them out before speaking to them.

"You understand we cannot make what you did public. The people must believe they are safe, and the threat of a Gith invasion will only spread chaos and strife in our fair city. You are all heroes, and as a reward I am authorized to owe you a favor from the General himself. Should you ever find a need for the use of the army within reason, we will respond quickly and without fail. Again, from the bottom of my heart I thank you.

Our reports have shown you completely destroyed the castle with a giant flood. Surely it will never be used again."

Bowing, he leaves their company, the night air the only thing left to greet them upon their return.

"Typical and necessary," Zwei's tone is one of knowing acceptance of the conditions of their return.

Turning to the others, "I for one, am for a bath and bed. Fair trails and trials to you both. We work well together. Hopefully if ever we do so in the future it will be for a reason less pressing."

She offers half bows to Tan and Dronnar before heading off toward Vilis with Asran.

The half giant turns and starts to leave, enjoying the calm night.

The problem with being Tan, is that he refuses to make sense. Only a few minutes after the devil saved him he had effectivly betrayed them. The tiny fellow was nearly spent. The fight was well near won already. He had just nearly died, very far from the nimbus. He decided to hide.

Not really. He was there, but he was only going through the motions. Swing slash, curl and snap. All in the wrist. Dodge dash and retreat. Before the final arrows were launched, he actually was gone. His mind on his dogs, and his lost freind. The man was tired beyond the understanding of the demons. Dronner.. well who knows with them crazy psionics.

Whimpy as he was. He is strong enough to drag a few dogs back to town. He cried a few times.. mostly because he knew what his gramma meant. He was going to die. No matter the nimbus embrace. He just fought side by side with things from hell or some other place equally as bad. He could have sung that old rhyme, the one with the names of the stars init.. the one his gramma sung. But a cantrip and good cough cleared up his face by the time he reached outer Gladius. He wasn't certain how he got there. He must have remembered the way, or retraced his steps.

He passed through the streets and saw something worse than usual. Fights. Real fights were happening in the streets, and sometimes.. they would stand. Not each and every one of them, not naturally, but instantly or not at all. Tan looked back at his boys. He squinted and he could see the slight shimmer. He had them on a proper makeshift mat. They were "cleanish." As much as you can expect two roasted dogs on a mat to be. The flies had gone as soon as he passed into the glow. Not a big bright glow, like the arena, but the fuzzy tracer effect that all magic had within the power of the nimbus.

Its not contained anymore. He had to blink at that thought. The pitlords are doing something to it and it is spitting out magic like it used to.. I.. where am I? He looks to his left and can see the majestic palace of the CEF, somewhat less imposing for all the construction. RESURECTION! He hollors with a smile! His stature swims in his head. Tan of the TAO, seeking some services. Can you ressurect my dogs and have the Tab sent to the TAO. As he trudged his "mentality" revealed iteself. What the hell was I thinking! I was working with Habari and PSI! Those guys are flaming evil! I don't care what anyone says .. evil is as evil does gramma usta say, ohh pelor shine you light on me I should go to church.. oh! Theres one there .. how convienient.....
