Stealth and Guile are not just tools for the wicked...
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d169/Ayrynthyn/EyeBanner.png

...Gladius has seen better days, friend. Those who seek to lead, find themselves...dead or worse. Sown are the seeds of corruption. The laws that once were have been perverted...tainted. It is our duty to defend the defensless, help those who cannot help themselves. We avow ourselves to the old laws. From the shadows we strike, taking the fight to those who would do wickedness. We infiltrate their dens of putrescence, and learn of their dirty little secrets... so its the watchful eye you seek? Indeed...

-Who we are:
Wars are fought an won not with swords but with words and a few men who understand the purpose of the greater good. While large armies amass to do battle on fair fields and with common courtesy, we are those who sneak into the enemies base and disrupt the balance and turn peace into confussion. Information and stealth are needed in grand battles, We are the scouts, the infiltrators, those that put ourselves at risk for the betterment of Gladius. We are everywhere and nowhere at the same time. We see the comming storm in the calm and already move to protect the innocent and put down the oppression.

History of the Merisia District
Mersia is a Noble style of community. It boarders the eastern side of Gladius... (to be finished)

History of the Old GSIS Building:
What once was an outstanding building of stature and normality, The GSIS has fallen into disuse after it's failed beginnings. Stationed within Mersia the GSIS sought to remain hidden among the rich and use their influence to support not only organization, but to protect them as well. Little did they realize that their goal would come crashing down.

The cause is still unknown but the results are: The building and most of the surrounding neighborhood was reduced to rubble. From this rubble Talik and Ba'al were the first to find the place and receive the calling to service under the shadowed man known only as 'The Emissary'

...the tales of the true heros rarely gets told. The true hero seeks not notority, but revels in the deed itself
"What’s the matter Talik? Beat you fair and square" Lien was staring down at me. "You... did not! You cheated. Are you that unsure of your martial skills that you must resort to using Magic?!" I was incensed. True, he was my elder, but I was the one entrusted with the Loreli Moon. And though he was my better, I had nearly taken him... this made the third time! ‘Always he resorted to using that blasted magic. Always he seemed to come out ahead, but at what price? Control... focus,,, breathe’

"Ahh, little brother, when will you get over your fear of Magic. It is only then will you be able to take your next step." Lein’s demeanor suddenly shifted. No longer was he grinning and smiling. I knew that look. He now had the look of teacher and mentor. "Until you get over this, there will be nothing more I can teach you Talik. Go to the City of Gladius, only under the gaze of the watchful eye will you be able to take this next step. I’m... I’m sorry."

It wasn’t until a week later, that this had stuck me as odd. Lein had sent me off to train before, but never to the city and never this far. The pit in my stomach grew. Something was wrong. Before me loomed my destination, the gates of the city Gladius, but I didn’t care. Something was wrong, and just as suddenly... the feeling faded. Then I saw a slovenly guardsmen. "You there... slovenly guardsman. Now that I am under the watchful eye of this grand city, where can I find some room and board?" The guardsman just stared at me for a long second, and then smiled ever so slightly "Ohh, you’ll be want’n the best I can tell. Tha Merisia Distric’ is where you need to be headin’. That a-way, not too far. Have a plesant stay..." He then grinned at me. Not a friendly grin, but a... creepy grin, nigh on insane. Needless to say, I left with the quick. ’Not that far... not that far... lost thrice, I must be on the far side of the city now. Not that far, my eye.’ But there it was, the Merisia district. At least he hadn’t lied about that. Now to find an inn…

Where to start......
Ayrynthyn: I finally got a hold of him, he is "taking some time off" which will be for an indefinate amount of time. I gave him some kind words and he says he is happy with how things are progressing. Send him a PM to cheer him up, he may not answer for a while but just let him know we miss him.

We have been having a couple of rough weeks recently and I'm glad you guys keep fighting it out. My hope is that with some of the new maps comming out hiding and sneaking will become a more viable option to getting around to stuff. The arena is not built for sneakers and hiders. So I also hope that if/when illumination effects go into effect we will gain some more benifit. Then again if you cant see yourself you might be looking at getting yourself some goggles of the night.

I know that Saffron is out on a quest and Lortavos is getting back but we should have some serious talk about what we want to do with this guild. It has one of the harder entry requirements with the skills that do not often get used in the arena.

I have posted a "proposed Mission Statement" on the first post and would appreciate feedback/editing comments. One thing that Ayrynthyn wanted was this to be a guild built not by a guildmaster but built by the gladiators in it. I can run accounting and buying and selling stuff but the lifeblood is quests, stories etc etc. So again I will ask for stuff for the Bardic Knowledge posts.

Well good news:
Thanks to Methos and Kendal for preforming this week when everyone else was MIA or figuring stuff out. I had the joy of moving last week and didn't even have time to discuss my fights from Dec 28 due to lack of internet. It happens but we should be back in the swing of things. If we keep up this rate of earnings we should be able to build something in the comming weeks we have been averaging about 200 gp a week from the arena after upkeep. I know that there has been some discussion of what to build first so I would love to hear some discussion on what to build.

I am still looking for background hooks and background knowledge. As I stated in one post directed at Papapepperoni that the beauty of the CoCo is that you can write your own background and make yourself as cool and spiffy as you want without being at the whim of just the DM that you play with. If you want downtime, you have downtime to craft and build stuff and the chance to play around. If you are worried about credits then the easist thing to do is ask to write stories, something that hasn't been done in a while. Most pitlords will gladly give you the chance to do so. Also if you have not pitlorded then I recomend trying to do one a week. It gives you an idea of how to approach not only tactics but in discussing problems with your fight later on. Writing a story can be fun and enjoyable.

I am still working on the tactics and stuff, but I just started a Masters level program and I'm still a little behind in my reading from moving and need to catch up there before I can get back to that.

The Bad News:
--- Nothing to report :ayyyy!:

12/28-
First of all.. That accounting system post is annoying to navigate, but it looks really cool. Second of all I learned how to Account, so all of you are in big trouble now.

We went 1 and 2 with one dispute still ongoing with a crit and a save or die spell for our losses, I still have high hopes that Talik comes out on top. For those of you in the ECL 'bruiser' league. There are just too many things to contest with at that level, work through it and get up to ECL 4. Sola just got there and I hope things get easier (and I shouldn't have won that last fight by the numbers.)

A though I had: Since we are the guild based around sneaking and information, I would like to put together a post about how to counter certain commonly used tactics. I know before I started playing here I just sat back and watched about 2 weeks of fights go around to look for common tactics and counters to the tactics. If you have any ideas go ahead and send them to the Guild account and I will probably use up post 13 or 14 to look around at them.

-Rith

12/23 -
First of all.. Festive Festivus, Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanza, and Merry Chanukah. We're starting to move now. Real good performance in the Arena last week. I have a plan for Talik that should get me out of the loosers ranks next week... but we'll see. We need to make sure that all of our character sheets are clearly tagged with "Member of the Watchful EYE [Tax 10%]" somewhere near the top so it's clear to the Guildlords...

I have been asked to appoint a "2nd in command". Since there really isnt a first in command (by design), and Erithmu asked me if he could help update stuff, i just went ahead and shot him the Guildmaster (EYE) password. To me Guildmaster (EYE) is really just an administrative account. If anyone else would like access to the Account, PM me, and ill get you on the List and the password.

Still looking for Hooks and character stories for a lot of you guys. Get em to me, and i'll make sure they're posted. PM me if you want to bounce around Ideas or anything...

Updated 12/10 -

I'm going to toss announcments and stuff in here.

Membership... seems to be moving along quite well. 3 members waiting, 2 of which are mid level. If we can get 2 more low level members pending, i think it will be more worthwhile to add a basic living quarter. Then opt for the mayors house.
Mini quests... I think something that relates to the other guilds would be appropriate. "Finding a lost CEF/TLT artifact which we need to return to them, and gain their friendship/first contact", "Investigate the recent leinency shown by the Iron Guard - habari", "Retribution for there Eye on the Consortium quest - PSI"... you get where im headed with this.
Bardic Knowledge....I need it, i want it. Backgrounds, intro tale's, character plot hooks, guild plot hooks. Get em to me, and i'll post em up
Guild Details... We need a charter or mission statement of some sort. Fuller descriptions and bios for our Staff/NPCs, as well as detail on the Merisia district which we reside. The high political ranking makes me think "Court street" in your nearest metroolis, but anything goes.
OOC... im wide open for alternatives to hashing out this kind of stuff. I'd rather not bombard this thread with hoards of silver only posts. If we can discuss in character, please do so. If we need hoards of silver only posts, so be it. If we want to look to another thread for OOC discussion, i can hear that too...
The Emissary... feel free to post as him. I dont have a lot of anything planed or in mind for him really. I don't see him being a major participant in any of the day to day stuff, but blowing in to dish out a mini quest, or with some other guilds tid bit of info to help with the story is fine fine fine by me. While we're at it.. same goes for all the staff. Timmy Noshoes, Ole Mrs toppenbottom, and...um...her daughter (it's gettin late ;) ).

...i know i had more thoughts, but this is a good start.

Battles are not always won through force of arms but through the strength of your mind.

While our opponents know their own strengths, it is your job to overcome their strengths and exploit thier weaknesses while protecting your own.

Invisibility:To Walk Unseen is a powerful ability indeed.
While there are many spells which take care of invisiblity they are not always at hand. Most notably is see invisible(wiz/sorc2), and to a lesser extent Faerie Fire(druid1), and Glitterdust(wiz/sorc2). Clerics do not get an anti-Invisibility spell until CL5 (Invisibility Purge).

Aside from spells allys are useful in pinpointing Invisible foes. Horses have scent which will pinpoint someone if they come within 5 ft and can smell creatures at a radius of 30ft. If you have an ally send them running in a general walking pattern and try to run into the invisible opponent.

A Feat option include Blind fight to a minor extend of an invisible Melee/Grapple opponent or a touch spell caster (Shocking Grasp/Ghoul Touch)

The most common response is to ready an action vs visibility which normally coincides with completing a spell. This works and does not, if they get this far bad things have already happened. If you are not expecting it you can very easily become caught unaware and flatfooted. Most invisible spellcasters will go invisible and then move out in search of their prey to disrupt buffing, some will even move and then ready for their prey to come into range to avoid the ready altogether.

Another option is to get a companion with Blindsense, most commonly a Dire Bat. At higher ECL a true dragon or the Dragon Disciple PrC grants blindsense.

-Casters: Most of the time they will be casting a kill spell either set you up for a CDG or put you on the defensive. (See Save or Dies below)

-Duerger: Some will try to use their invisiblity to get in close and grapple you, others will try to get to 30ft and sneak attack + Psionic damage and kill you outright or put close enough to low hitpoints and unable to get far enough away to heal.

Flight:
If they are going to be up there, then you have to be able to hit them from down here. The simplist forms of flight involve one of the following:
-Outsider with alterself (most commonly an Ice Mephit)
-Fly Spell (Wiz3 and Cleric w/ Magic Domain)
-Small creature (halfling) on a Dire Bat.

The most common tactic for overcoming flight is to have a ranged weapon. Most of the time you are dealing with a creature with spellcasting abilities and they are flying because they want to stay away from your melee capabilities.

-Crossbow: If they are using ranged attacks (that require an attack roll) fall prone to gain a +4 AC bonus vs their attacks. You do take a -4 to your attacks so consider the benifits to the loss. (the attackers -4 (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/combat/combatModifiers.htm) while prone is melee only) Most of the time if they are slinging spells they will have a limited number of times to do that until they run out of spells or it begins to become very expensive. Bolts however are 20 for a gold piece.

-Removing Flight: Since the majority of the time it is a magical effect a simple Dispel Magic can do wonders. Since most are done from Scrolls the caster level is lower than a scroll of Dispel Magic so you have a better than 50/50 shot to dispel it.

-Use the Terrain: As stated before most fliers are casters, so find some cover and ready a shot vs casting. In a FFA there isn't much cover so use actions to find some if the one you are using is being compromised. In a hunter Fight there is a large quantity of terrain to cause trouble in.

Sola

Sola's methodology of finding the light in people may seem strange until one sees it in action. At the same time he dances very closely to the evil that he hunts down. The shadow the guides him has no substance or physical being, but for some reason it makes sense and all the actions that have been preformed have been in line with the evil that Sola seeks to defeat.

"The shadow"

What is this being that simply calls itself 'the Darkness' is there some goal that it seeks to use Sola for or is it just a being of evil that is doing it's best to move one of the faithful to the fallen. "The Rosary"

A strand of black pearl beads that hang at Sola's belt, although most are inert they have inner power that is tied to Sola. Only one holds power currently but all glow with a power of untapped magic."The Trading Post"

While helping a gypsy whose cart had been ransacked, Sola came upon a small trading post. The ground was deemed neutral ground for combat purposes but could be a valuable source of information gathering of the outside world.
Ba'al
Xerxes

Ba'al hunts a necromancer named Xerxes. His only lead so far is that of an orc he found setting ritual bones in the graveyard.

"Avenge a fallen Friend"
The fall of Ba'al was saw by all Ba'als death at the hands of the Prison cut straight to the heart pupil of the eye. Was his crime so heinus that it rated a punishment this harsh, or had the roots of coruption gotten their first taste of the blood of the eye?

A weary traveler made his way into Gladius on foot. Ba'al was his name.

He came by way of the high road merisia. Entering from the east of city, the road passes a thick forest, and therin Ba'al imagined the most horrific chaos of creatures and untamed savagery imaginable. Eventually the high road merisia came upon the easternmost structures of the city. The footsore xeph kneeled in the rubble of a destroyed fortress like structure.

GSIS? whats this? He surveyed the scene. Looks like you were supposed to be one impressive gateway to the city. From the looks of the fallen construction the building was intended to have spanned the high road, and watch over all the newcomers to Gladius. Poor building. You never even really got built. Ba'al belived that things should be what they were intended to be. A building should stand, and (of course) Ba'al had a mission to complete.

He gathered himself, stomped the ground a bit and was about to dash off into the dawn of Gladius, but a voice from the shadows stalled him.

Ba'al.
What? Whos there? Who knows my name?
When you have lost your way return here.
What? I can see you, what are you saying?

The shadowy figure somehow dissapeared into the halflight of dawn.

Ahh, hell! Ba'al kicks a rock with some accuracy at a half fallen wall. Now ah have a cramp, ehe, might as well stay here. Ba'al wasn't stupid. He knew when he had been invited to something. I know nothing of this city. I'll need help if I going to find my bounty. The question is. What will they want from me in return.

Done a little resarch on the "history of the city" and found GSIS - hope tok doesnt mind - figure its a bit o' fluff. I like the shadowy figure idea - PMed guildmaster EYE with other ideas. Any other thoughts?

Ba'al walks around the compound a little. Eventually another voice, one not nearly as dark and husky rang out from around a corner.

Talik the Svelt -

"You too, have heard the Voice...seen the shadow?"

Around the coner, sits a monk in humble garb. Legs crossed, eyes closed, he sits in some kind of meditative posture.

"I am Talik, son of Choup. I too was lead here by the shadowy figure."

With this, talik slowly gets too his feet, eyes now open and remaining on the new comer.

"I know not his name, but i've heard Ole Mrs Toppenbottom, refer to him as the Emisarry. She's the cook, and along with her daughter Deloris and a little formerly homeless boy Timmy, they take care of this place. Since i first came to this city ten days ago, i have been mugged and beaten twice, and nearly poisoned. That was all within the first two days of my arrival. That night, i heard the voice, say my name. I saw the shadow lurkin in the alley. So went to engage, fearing once a gain for my life. For what seemed an eternity i followed, catching a glimps here, hearing a movement there. Till i wound up here. Mrs Toppenbottom met at that door with a bowl of the most wonderful stew, and said she'd been waiting for me..., and that i was late *chuckle*. Since then i have stayed here. I have felt safe, able to prepare for my battles in the arena, and chiping in when i can. I presume, with your arrival, that the safety of those within these wall has not...been compromised. "

Ba'al looks quriously at Talik.

I am Ba'al, and you have nothing to fear from me Talik. I would ask for your aid, as I will need some assistance if I am to find what I came here for. However, you say you have hardly been here longer than I... Ba'al rubs his Xephan forehead. You may not be able to help me find what I am seeking... but did you mention something about stew? and with that Ba'al, Hunter of the Grave, offered his hand in welcome.

From behind you a figure steps out of the shadow. His cloak drawn up covering his features, it’s quality unquestionable as his form blends seamlessly with the shadow.

“There, now that the pleasantries are out of the way, let us get down to business. I am The Emissary. This place is all that remains of the once proud Gladius Security and Intelligent Service. Your abilities and disposition have brought me to you, and you here. Our mission is a simple one. Protect the integrity of Gladius. Defend the weak and feeble from those who would do wicked things. Ensure the power of this city serves the people as a whole, and not just an honored few. And we have our work cut out for us… If either of you are not up for this task, I will think no less of you.”

The emissary pauses for a brief moment, waiting for any response from. A quick glimps of a strong chin, stubbled and gray, can be seen as he continues.

“Good… good. Consider this place your home. We will continue to restore it to it’s former glory, but to do such, I believe we’ll need more man power. The task I set before you two is to find others that may be compassionate to our cause. Trust your instincts. They will not fail you. Scout the districts to the north, west, and east. Seek out the other growing nexuses of power there (read other guilds), and ascertain their standing. We have already been contacted by The Warfare Alliance. There are others as well. I will scout the southern districts. There are rumblings of political movements, and an general sense of unease in Lower Merx, and the district of Vilis…”

Ba'al considered what the shadowy figure had to say and his first thought was, "oh thats what they want" and he considered himself lucky. "Doesnt change my job description much" he thought "Im curious as to how this guy is gonna pay me though"

Look Shadow Man, im a what I call a "hunter" I take money and bring back a living or dead person depending on how much money gets paid. I am more than willing to do that for you, but I have an outstanding debt right now. Im not sure if I can be some sort of "recruiter."

Thats just Ba'al

- for people - whats up with the others on the probationary list?
or what about setting up a sorta standard miniquest system? we're "the cops" it would be easy enough to run mini/quests related to "law enforcement" or "diplomatic" scenarios with gangs and stuff.

"ahh... straight to the heart of it all, eh Ba'al. Your payment, for the time being... this roof over your head, 3 squares a day, facilities to hone your skills, and friends to hone them with. As an added bonus, Your debts are our debts... tell us of this 'problem' of yours and we'll see to it together, and who knows. Perhaps, down the road a bit, we can agree to something a little more...lucritive."

First 5 slots can be filled *without* Mini Quests, although that doesnt preclude them from occuring. The others on the list have been PM'd without much success. I'm gonna start a post for "Open Plot hooks", both Guild and individual so that other guild types can review, and incorporate if so inclined. "Rally the gangs to our banner..." is definitly tward the top of the guild list...

"That is agreeable enough for me Emissary. I have an appology... that i need to deliver to one, Tan of Sty for an.. well, an old fashioned hide tanning that i beset upon him in last weeks Arena. He is a member of the Brotherhood of the Arcane Order. I hear he didn't do so well this week either, and that's "in", at least to get the conversation started. Perhaps on my return from the Arena this evening which leaves just enough time to hear your tale Ba'al. That is, if you wish to share it... "

Ba'al smiles frutivly

Actually there is not much to share. I was paid to avenge the death of a young nobleman. He was traveling far to the east of here near my homeland, and was attacked by a group of goblins. My teacher in the ways of the mind used his powers to identify the culprits for the greaving family. Their images are etched into my mind, but I have little else to follow them by. Three of my prey are already accounted for, only one remains. A holy man gave me directions to Gladius. He said I would "find what I seek here" whatever that means. If anything. Perhaps he was deceiving me and my quarry is far from this city. Either way, I believe that the best course of action I can take for now is to aid your cause.

Talik shifts his sitting position a bit, exchanging left foot over right for right over left.

"Teacher in the ways of the mind. Very interesting indeed. My teacher was always able to best me conjuring force from his mind alone. I always though him weak for resorting to such a tactic.”

Talik pauses, as if lost in some thought '...under the watchful eye only will you take your next step'...

“But I see now how there may be merit in such things, especially after witnessing several events at the arena. I look forward to further conversations on this topic…”

Talik smiles, and then turns on his heel and begins to pack up his gear.

“Tell me, this mental image. Is there any specifics you can share? Any unique marking you can describe? Tall? Fat? Short? Bald? Man? Woman? Missing an ear? Scar across his neck? Although I question the nobility of one who pay’s another to avenge the life of a loved one, I will gladly keep an EYE out for you. And four eyes are better than two.”

Ba'al "Hunter of the Mind" - A student of the arts of the mind's blade, but not a master psion by any means. Before coming to gladius he was a not so simple bounty hunter. One of his not so simple bounty's lead him to the city that does not believe in death. To this day he remains in intermitant contact with his former allies in far from Gladius - however since his arrival he has chosen to stake his claim with the Watchful EYE.

Why "not so simple?" Well.. the nameless brotherhood, that taught Ba'al the way of the mind blade and the mind's powers, specializes in impossible cases. No witnesses, no evidance, no hope? One of these lonely mindblades may come to your aid, for a price. They are known to give discounts to those truely deserving, but they are by no means an altruistic association. Ba'al is on one hand one of them, and in the other hand he holds an EYE.

---

as for plot hooks and quest possibilities - I was thinking of doing the bounty hunt as a quest for someone that joins the guild and having Ba'al's mission taken care of by someone else - In my mind that would make Ba'al more inclined to stay in Gladius - he owes "the city" a favor. Anyway, I would rather get into that after a few arena fights.

Ba'al declines to speak of his prey, prefering to speak of Gladius.

I have heard tales of these Arena fights, tell me more of this "Nimbus"

Talik strolls back in from another abysmal performance in the arena.

"Not too much i can tell ya about the Nimbus, but I do know that there seems to be an abundance of people with no sense of fair play. Two weeks in a row, it’s been two against one, and not in my favor I might add. Even my first week my opponent had a dog which he gratefully left at home. Coincidentally enough, that was my only victory. To think, I used to complain about Lein using magic against me when we sparred. At least *he* fought one on one… Perhaps I need to visit the stables, and aquire a sidekick for myself. “

Talik shakes his head, and drops his weekly contribution into the bowl. 37gold 5 Silver. Just as last week.

“I will tell you this much… we don’t get a couple more guys in here to help pay for these nice things, we may have to let some of the help go…”

he then heads over to the table and partakes of a slice of the still steaming apple pie, and a mug of the ice cold punch that was left out by ole Mrs Toppenbottom.

Ba'al sat up from his napping pose. He had already given of his meager reward for failing his own exhibition deathmatch.

Sorry, what? New people? Yeah, I was thinking about that. Ba'al was still wary of following orders from an incorporeal shadow Probably a ghost of someone's but he had decided that whatever the inexplicable fellow was, he was speaking sense. I have this idea.

There are allot of strange people in this city. Allot of the newcomers are not going to be able to measure up to the guild's requirements. Maybe looking up to the higher ranks of gladiators. They are more aware of what goes on in the city after all. Ba'al considered a moment, You know Im not sure if I really deserve to be here.. The Xeph hunter seems morose.

Mrs Toppenbottom comes over with another bowl of stew. "Eat Ba'al, your so skinny. Don't you worry. You belong here. Everyone can do something to help the city." She brings a bowl to Talik. "You boys don't give up hope now."

Yeah, like Ba'al said. Ask some of the higher level players to join the eye (same percentage higher pay eh?). Another thing, was the hide/mosi/info req there the whole time? Ba'al doesnt cut that mustard. I can character change (or rebuild) but I coulda swore it used to say the req was lawful, and a good story.

A soft 'fwup' is the only sound that accompanies the appearance of a man-sized beast in the street in front of the old armory, a sleek black feline being crouching for a moment to recover from the leap down from a nearby rooftop. Padding with every appearance of preturnatural silence into the lair of the EYE, the majestic predator pauses just inside the entrance.

Muscules ripple in the neck of the beast and it's head rears back, lips splitting to reveal a gleaming row of fangs which further part to reveal a pink tongue and- *HAWWCK* A furrball, proppelled onto the floor. Upon closer examination, it is not a furrball at all, but a slightly damp wadded piece of paper bearing an invitation to the EYE to one Lortavos.

There is a fluttering in the air. It sounds like a swarm of bats and is comming closer. The rushing sound grows, comming in from above the roof tops. It becomes so loud that one could only imagine it to be illusion or some great beast. The sound hovers down to the growling and defensive Lortavos, and then stops suddenly with a 'thump-clik'.

The invisibility spell drops, and in the center of the room appears a dragon. This dragon is in no way threatening though. It seems the exact opposite of the hulking krenshar; the dragon is barely larger then an alley cat. The little brass reptile smiles serenly, scratching around her black flight goggles. She leans forward on a backpack that is sized to her. On her front two claws are a pair of silk gloves, sewn all over with tiny psionic crystals. To differentiate even more, she talks non stop almost as soon as she becomes visible.

"Hello there! You are so cool looking. I thought there would be some humanoids about, since I heard about them while I was flying around, over by the fountain next to the Celestial Forces base, have you ever seen it? You'd think with the angels about they'd have nicer furniture or something? Never been up that way? Don't talk much I see. Don't blame you, sometimes I don't feel like talking either. See, I came here to talk to the 2 leggers anyway. Have you seen them about? Oh, there they are.

Hey! You're that svelt guy. How'd you get that name? Do they have a touch the gladiator day at the arena? I know everybody wants to pet me after the fights, and that horse Hrolf, too. They line up for him, but I don't get it. He's not much fun to hang out with. Anyway, word is that you guys need some help. What kind of help? Like money? I'm not sharing my money with you, if that's what you want. It's like everybody in this town wants to share my money, especialy those black dragons that live in the sewers. They were very insistant about it, but heck no!"

Been meaning to stop by, but been real busy. Saffron Brass is ECL 7 (going to 8 next week), so she could only get you 1% every week. And she hasn't won yet in the arena. So maybe 9 gp per week. She's more for questing; her skills are built for that. So if you're willing to take on member who will run off like an excited five year old every couple weeks, the Saffron is your gal.

Talik the Svelt

Talik’s mouth hangs agape, obviously trying to process the sight before him and the bombardment of questions coming at him as a flurry of blows from a master of his order would. Picking up the soggy piece of parchment, between forefinger and thumb, pinkies extended as to be as far from the slobber as possible, Talik eyes both the new comers. Glancing at the parchment…

“Well… let me be the first to bid you welcome. If the emissary sent for you, there can be no question of your character, or your…abilities. Lortavos is it?”

Talik runs his eyes over the feline beast. Attempting to either believe the words coming out of his mouth or testing the pronunciation of the name, he bows slightly to Lortavos and then turns to the dragon.

“Um miss… I don’t think I caught your name in all of that, but I will attempt to answer all of your questions.”

The monk takes an exaggeratedly deep breath and begins “I was a tubby child and it was a reverse nickname, there is no touch the gladiator day that I know of, were looking for help to protect the populous from corruptions and those who would generally do them harm, a bit of a police force if you will, we don’t want your money, but your performance in the arena will garner us some income which we can use, among other things, to build quarter..s mor…“>GASP<“quarters more suited to the grandeur that one of your reputation requires.”

After catching his breath, Talik flashes a quick grin

Lortavos peers at the dragon warily, somehow remaining majestically silent as opposed to 'cowed' in the face of the tiny dragon. Rather abruptly a small quill and piece of papyrus float away from the feline's haunches, coming out from a pouch attached to his thigh. The quill swiftly dashes across the page; the cat may be unable to speak, but writing is not beyond him, apparently.

"No, I have not visited the Celestial beings. Beings with feathery wings generally do not hold well with my kind. You at least are clearly too hard to eat at least." The papyrus floats in front of Saffron for a moment so she can read it, before suddenly falling to the ground, replaced by another.

"Lead on then. The deviants of any given tribe must be swiftly driven out." This papyrus is presented to Talik, floating through the air to fit neatly in his hand.

Mm, my apologizes; I usually rotate Santos and Lortavos every week. He'll be active next week, and the week after that if someone wishes to offer the credit; I'm currently at -4 credits, so I really cant go over 2 gladiators active. I don't think we can activate him this week as it is this late, but if we can I would certainly be willing to do so.

That said, I'd like for Lortavos to go on a miniquest or two soon, to help flesh out his background. Hmmm.

"It gets worse... I've drawn an All vs All where i believe i may be the primary target for both of my oppoents. C'est la vie. We should discuss where it is we wish to take things with our humble home here. I've done some significant scouting of the Arenas. Unfortunately there are a rare few who adhear to this guilds high standards set down by the emissary. Good news is one of my opponents fits that description, and may be a prime candiate for that empty fifth bed. Building additional houseing may not be the wisest course of action. Depending upon Saffrons intentions to participate in the arena...they do still pay a good price to see a dragon fight... we may wish to consider opening the western wing, and converting it into a proper dragons lair so we can collect all the fees due us by the arena. Other than that, i believe we should really consider referbishing the old Mayors house first. That will bring us in a guarenteed 400 a month. Sola (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=7936609) stood outside the remains of the GSIS. He looked at the hagard remains and considered the conversation being discussed among what was left intact and apparently converted into living quarters. Normally he prefered to move with some stealth but Sola approached with a little more noise than usual.

Never try to sneak up on someone who looks for information. Paranoid most of the time.

Stepping into the room of conversation. He waited for the current conversation to end. before adressing the room. I'm looking for Talik Svelt. A little bird told me I might find some work and a place to crash.

I'm Talik, and its seems that little bird has been getting around a bit lately...

Talik throws a wink to the other new arrivals.

"...and you heard correct. Quite the rag tag cast of characters that the Emissary has gathered. I bid you welcome. Come, sit, eat and join us. Ole Mrs Toppenbottom make a wonderful stew, although i must admit she's pretty evasive if pressed for whats in it. You already know of me, That's Ba'al, Lortavos, and Saffron. By what name to you go?"

Talik spends the remainder of dinner discribing the lay of the land, and continuing the discussion at hand...

"...true true. The referbishing of the Mayors house would bring in more than saffron *alone*, but by the time we may have garnered enough reknown that others in those higher leagues, sympathetic to our cause, may join us. On the flip side of that coin, referbishing the Mayors house is a full 1000 gold less expensive, which means persistant income sooner... I wish i had a head for numbers."
Vathelokai

12-08-05, 09:16 AM
"See, if you build rooms for the higher leagues, you bring in 200 to 600 golds a week. Average 400 gp a week. If you refurbish the mayoral abode, you guarnetee the 400, and you never have a 200 week. You can get the house done faster, probably a full month faster, so it's the better bet. That means if you build the mayor house, you would have paid off a third of the investment before you could have build me a room."

Ba'al lay still against one ruined wall. He watched the flurry of wild creatures.. Like me... Talik is only normal one here. No bird, brought that shadow's man here. At the very thought a bird scuttled out of the shadows. Most likely the others did not see it, but Ba'al was born with a hunter's eyes..

tink

A coin falls to the ground, and the bird flys away. Its flight vanishing abruptly as it passes through a shadow. Ba'al rolls to his feet and retrieves the coin. Embossed on its face are the words.
"City of Gladius"

Talik, does the Guild Council coin money? Talik responds that he is unfamiliar with any coinage ever being minted. Saffron hovering over the conversation however remember's something from her "tours" of the Gladius Prison.

I have seen Gladius coins! They are novelties, you get them at the prison. Thats a... third credit there! They arnt money but... You can use those on the black market!!!

As Saffron babbles like a brook Ba'al returns to his own thoughts. I know what I must do he whispers as his hand drew a parchment from his pocket. It too wore the sigil on the coin, signed by his pitlord, a violation. He turned to the others.

I will return when I have been through this prison. It is the only correct thing to do. Perhaps you could make use of my corner of the facilities Sola. I will return. With that he dashes out through the window.

Any suggestions for the Ba'al update? Apparently the skill points and and some equipment costs are off - so guess Ba'al is gonna "work out" ?? (Hide/Mosi/Gath) ?? in prison...

I have thought of an adjustment to the stealth and guile thing (guile would be bluff wouldnt it? What about A, Non-evil, B, four skills w/ 5 ranks off this list:
Bluff, Diplomacy, Gather Info, Hide, KS(Local), Listen, Move Silent, Search, Sense Motive, Spot, Slight of Hand, Use Magic Device, or Use Psionic Device.

Thats even more skill intensive, but covers more ground. The idea being - why does an eye need to hide? Guile is persuasion, steal AND guile, the list of skills may be too long, but the're all the "be all you can be.. subtly" skills.

I have an idea! When we get enough money together to build the mayor's house back up (I think thats a good idea btw - with the secret cave network!) I could run a murder mystery campaign. "12 people locked in a house with a murderer! Which one are you?!"

You know whats great about the twelve little indian plots? You always know what going to happen... and your always suprised! :D

From the monatary end of things, if you find another lower level character who wants to join EYE, then Saffron will go roomless. Even if a low level character looses every week, it would make the guild more money than Saffron's 1%. Also, after my next fight, I want to quest for a diplomacy ally. I'll look into the plot hooks... I might be able to fit it all together.

Walking through the gates, Kendal noticed a dark, shadowy figure gliding along town and Kendal decided to follow him. After a short walk, he stood before a large building and the figure stopped. Kendal approached the man and greeted him:
"Greetings, my name is Kendal. I saw your finesse in stealth and I wondered if there was any sort of organization you are part of".
Then he patiently waited for an answer.

As the stranger introduces himself, the shadowy form waves him into the building, "Welcome to the organization," and the shadow walks in itself. Kendal is a bit put off, but assumes the stranger is getting out of the winter chill. Kendal steps throught he door, but does not see the shadowy figure anywhere. Instead, he sees a strange group gathered around a table discussing something over dinner.

Two human men, one obviously a monastic, the other possibly a hunter of some sort, sit next to a dark skinned desert man (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/xph_gallery/80512.jpg). Something, seems quite un-human about him. Next to the table is a large cat-like creature (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/MM35_gallery/MM35_PG163.jpg), which keeps it's eyes trained on Kendal from before he even steps throught he doorway. Hovering above the table is a lizard of some sort, brass and shiny (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a327/Vathelokai/CoCo%20Maps/Saffron1.jpg) and barely larger then a big house cat. She beats her wings furiously, almost as quickly as flaps her beak.

"Geez Ba'al, the prison is no big deal. It's almost all paperwork. They don't even beat people up, or hang them upside down all day, or HEY, wouldn't this be cool, make them fight in the arena with no equipment, and don't pay them, just take their money to pay off their debt. Not like it would be that bad; It's the gladiator prison, they are used to the nimbus anyway.

Hey, who'se that? HEY YOU! You new in town? We're real friendly in here, you should come in and get the stew. It's good and good for you. And if you figure out what it is made of, I'll pay you.... one gem if you tell me. I'll even give you this nifty gold coin I found; it used to be owned by Balbanes, but hey, he's spent half the money in this town it seems like.... say, you have a name?

A Berth is the same as a Bunk, or a Bed; its just a place to stay.

Hey guildmaster, I recommend letting Saffron out of the guild, and replacing her with Kendal. After my next fight, I will quest to get into the guild (instead of Kendal questing), so it's out of the way, and then just hang out. It would be better for the guild.

And if it matters, on post 3, saffron's text color is listed as orange; it's actually bold darkorange.

Sola finished the stew and smiled at a good meal to be had. He had been listening to the discussion of needs of the chapter, from what it seems everything had been only recently formed. A building is very nice indeed but while having a house to uphold some standards and bring us income, it does not allow us to be the eyes and ears with only a small group of members. I am awaiting my first battle in the arena so I do not know what to expect, but I can only assume that I won't have too much trouble. I need a couple of weeks to make some solid contacts here but I should be able to form a recruitment operation for additional members.

I will have a background up for Sola after my fight, and while I am in the process of moving/starting my Masters, after I figure out my time contraints I would be willing to run some of the quests for entry/guild quests, but probably not till after the new year.

Buildings, I haven't looked at the costs of things but not allowing people to join because we dont have places to live seems foolish in terms of reputation. Now I'm all for getting money in and we do have kinda a tough entry, but if Cat lowers the requirements it could be much easier to enter. It's one of those things were it would almost be easier to buy something to just increase cash flow instead of saving up for something expensive, just something to consider.

Rayos slips out of the shadows, and smiles briefly.
The city is not much different than the forest, when it comes to stealth.

He turns to the door infront of him.
His mind drifts back to the note he found.

The note, just the thing he was looking for, albeit it came at a sad time.
He was in the middle of mourning, he brother Risel had been murdered in Kaigan's Mansion.
This new guild, the EYE will give him the training and resources to find his brother's killers and avenge him.

He will help the EYE as well with their tasks.

Rayos approaches the door, and knocks.
The door opens and he is greeted with shadows and darkness, but it is not menacing, almost welcoming.
He walks in, letting the darkness consume him.
His sharp elf ears pick up whispering, and he openly grins.

"I am Rayos, ranger of the forest. I have come to help the guild, Corellon permitting." Rayos says in a barely audible whisper.

Just when Kendal started to introduce himself, another person stepped inside the building and introduced himself as Rayos. Kendal signed him that he should wait a moment and then Kendal started speaking: "Greetings I am Kendal, from the monastery of Ardèz Kal. I have been trained in the ways of stealth, even though rogues never got my appeal. Anyhow, I am here since I am here with people who think the same way as I do. I will try my best to fit into your community and I'll be glad to fulfill any mission for this 'guild'. All I request is a small room to sleep and to put my belongings. I am most pleased to be a part of this community, who's name is...?."

Do I still have to do a quest to join? Do I get a room? About the req's, I actually think they're too low. Anyway, more members would be great.

Talik the Svelt -

Talik stands from the shadows in the corner where he was sulking (yes sulking and not skulking), with an audible grunt of discomfort. 'All these shadows...we really need some better lighting in here...'. As he enters the light, it's plain to see the source of his discomfort. The right side of his face looks as though it has been severely burned. His midsection is completed wrapped in bandages which are beginning to show crimson along the left side as his wounds begin to seep through.

"Kendal.. welcome. The mighty wyrm Saffron has offered her lodgings be made available to you. Quite a gift, and quite a boon i must add."

"Rayos, welcome as well. Your arrival was anticipated, although we were beginning to worry about the delay. Is all well? It may be a few days before we can acquire an additional bed for you, but i anticipate that you'd feel more comfortable under the stars...no??"

"My dear Sola... I pray that you, how did you put it, "don't have too much trouble". I have just completed my fourth battle, and have had nothing but trouble. Anticipate that you will be battling 2 against one, and acquire the appropriate equipment accordingly. Anticipate your fights being rescheduled. My second fight, was the morning of the following weeks groupings. I went from the Arena directly into the queue for the next week. didn’t get a chance to restock, resupply, or sleep. This weeks fight, was moved to a completely different area at the last minute, which I was unprepared for. I was so out of focus, I didn't even follow through with my plan to go after the wizard firstm and instead rushed the rogue and his Fire elemental side kick... He actually may make a dicent addition to our merry band here. There is some question about the legitimacy of the Arena move, and a protest has been filed. I may need to face my opponents again this week. Hopefully I can find my center before that... if that occurs. Well, if you all will excuse me, I’m going to consume some of Ole Mrs Toppenbottom's green tea, and pass out for a day"

@all...if we get more than 2 waiting in the wings, i think it's more worth while to get the additional space.

@Vath... cool, I’ll sneak Kendal in saffron's spot. Don’t you disappear on us now *wink*.

@PapaP... You're in, no quest required, fresh comfy bed. Welcome and Enjoy.

@Erith... mechanics of the build tiers and strings takes a couple of reviews. I still don't get a bunch of that stuff. Lack of beds and stuff "mechanically" will definatly not preclude entertaining new members, nor their role play here. As it stands right now, i think we will get another basic living quarters, a fancy living quarters, and the mayors house fastest if we get the mayors house first. I need to redo the math though now that we have a second (mid level) pc on board.

@Kaigan... I wasn’t sure what was going on. I saw you had a bunch of characters active, but Rayos was still "in the graveyard". Mechanically we'll need to get a mini quest for you, and purchase a Fancy living quarters for you to be able to contribute cash flow to our cause. Otherwise, your in with full standing. Feel free to RP as such. As for a mini quest, i think a liaison with the TLT folks might be cool, tie in that whole ranger / nature gig, but we can has out the details.

@book... Check the revised requirements. Looks like they’re gonna stickle on them, so post in the change thread to make your adjustments, and get Ba’al taken care of.

Thank you and Saffron for the privilege of a room. I am most pleased to be able to join without performing any service for you, but I still feel I am in your debt and I would gladly show that I am worth being in this guild. But for now, I will finish my stew and get ready for bed.
As you can see, my color is Navy. I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but can I take a quest wherein the reward are boots of elvenkind? Or is that item 'common' enough that I can buy it in the city? If possible, I would gladly have the quest made in a way that EYE benefits from it too (e.g.: A stealth operation for Kendal to find out things about another guild, and he finds, by coincidence, the boots.)

The doors open, and in pads a small man with distinctly elven features. Dressed in simple peasant clothing, he has about him some very odd looking instruments that could only be weapons. He also carries a bow in a leather case across his back.

He enters quietly, moving with a purposeful grace and power that belies his small stature. He addresses those before him, with a short bow. "Greetings, neighbors. I am looking for those in authority here. I have come to offer my services to those in need. Where may I find them? He looks about, memorizing faces and scanning them for reactions.

Methos just quested to join the Warfare Alliance, but I thought better of having more than one character in the same guild, so the EYE's have it (him). He won't be going active again until my last character gets to level 5, which could be a couple of weeks, but the first thing he will be doing when he does is miniquesting for entry here. Gonna play the story that he didn't agree with the method of entry that was required of him to enter WAR, so chose to look elsewhere to ply his trade. He's doing fairly well in the arena (if I can keep him out of all vs all, hunter and team fights, that is), so hopefully this will help get this guild kicking a little quicker Oh....and my color is navy. :D

Rayos waits calmly as the one named Kendal speaks,

Silently smiling, he remembers the days of old, when he first started here.

When Kendal finishes, he meets eye contact with the guildmaster, and just nods.

"I'll be at Kaigan's mansion, you know how to reach me. Just send me a message with your entrace "test" and I'll do it."

Rayos turns and leaves.

I've set Rayos ready for a Miniquest this week. I'll PM pitlords closer to wednesday like I always do. So don't worry, Rayos is coming back.
I will eventually have 7 characters ready. The way I play them is I started out with my 5 ECL 3 characters, then I only readied the ones that won for the next week. The ones that lost sit a week out. Haha, some will level up slower, but this way I get to play them all. So next week signals the return of Rayos, the highest pure ranger in the arena, woot, lvl 8.

Oh and Rayos will take the color teal.

@book5... you can do a miniQuest or Quest at any time. Basically it's no differnet than if you wanted to quest for a special mount or leadership cohort or something. You set your title to Questing Dec 14 or what ever, you contact a questlord to see if they're available, and what you want out of your quest. If it's a guild related one, i would anticipate the questlord skimming through our guild thread, or pm'g the Guildmaster Avatar. we may or may not RP some of it up in the guild thread, depending on timeing or whatnot...

Lortavos yawns silently, again revealing rows of teeth before peering about the suddenly much more crowded 'lair' of the EYE. A piece of papyrus unfurls itself on the table before the feline, graced again with a pen held by an invisible hand. "Interesting bipeds. Are you sure none of these are deviants, Talik? Then again, one rotten vine oft connects to another, just be mindful of which you know are rotten and which are not." A momentary pause before more commentary; the cat must spend a fortune on ink. "I will be in the arena again myself in three days time. It is most invigorating, if a triffle cold."

"No my friend Lortavos, i do not think they are deviants. To be honest, however, im not entirely sure how one would identify an deviant. Come on, im hungry, lets get some mystery stew...perhaps you can shed some insight."

Thinking on this talik makes his way to the common room, where he is promptly presented with another newcomer.

"Talik, this guy here says he's looking to help us, and offer his services, and looking for authoritiy, and wants to help those in need, and wants to be our neighbor, and to fight for truth, justice and the Gladius way...can we keep him?"

Raising an eyebrow to the precocious dragon, Talik immediately recognizes this latest visitor.

"Methos...it's an honor. Your reputation preceeds you. The Emissary has brought us all together, but has not given us much in the way of direction. He's been only seen once or twice over the last several weeks, and my concern for our... course grows daily. I claim no authority over my brothers or sisters here, i only have the honor of being the first to lay my head upon a bunk. It is our purpose to unseat coruption, and to be a voice for those who have none. If you embrace these ideals as your own, have no evil intent in your heart, you are welcome here. Sometimes one can be standing right next to the darkness and not know it is there. Those that hold the power of Judge must also look inward and seek out any injustice within themselves. Sometimes the demons inside of us get the better of us, sometimes they show us what we seek to defeat.

Sola pondered over his own words for a moment before looking up at the pair of monks, Just because one has the power to do something does not always mean they should. I'm gonna take a little liberty seeing as Ba'al is going to reborn, Cat said start him over from scratch.. eh! Didnt need that loss on his record anyway right!?!

Talik and Methos stood as they spoke of Ba'al and the Emissary. It was safe to assume that Saffron was off somewhere else or she would have been giving Menthos her trademark earfull of a "hello"

Sola, Latravos, and Kendel each sat in "the commons" of the old GSIS ruins. Talik had hardly managed to state his proposal when a chill filled the room. Candles flicker and the Emissary stood amongst them. The startled EYEs spurted questions and comments at the shadow of a man. Those who had not seen the Emissary were perhaps a little slower to respond.

"what manner of being is this?" Each of them must have thought. The Emissary responded to all of the EYEs questions with three simple statments.

I am not here to hold your hand or place your footfalls for you. You were each chosen for what it is that you will do without or without advice. At times, however, I will come to return "something lost" to its proper place.

As the winds wistled the Shadow Man Vanished. Where his feet were was a bundle of rags, with a Xephan head protruding from one side. Before any of the EYEs had a chance to react Mrs. Toppenbottom burst onto the scene to care for the lifeless Ba'al.

The faces of the EYE were about to shake loose of that stunned silence that comes with the truely unexpected when one last snicker of fate arrived in the form of a Prison Parakeet. The badge emblazoned birdy proudly (perhaps even pompously) presented its scroll.

To whomever this letter manages to find. The Xephan Hunter known as "Ba'al" has accidentally been relieved of his life while serving time in Gladosian Prison. His possesions were confiscated under our authority in order to cover his dept to society...

[it goes on for a while, but the most important part.. is Ba'al is "dead"]

... there is still a small matter to be resolved on behalf of the deceased. Please contact a city official if you are a relative of Ba'al.
Our sincearest apologies for your loss,
- Lt. Lief

PS. Before he died Ba'al was heard refering to a "Ga'al" is this perhaps a relative?
PPS. On a side note, we are using a spell to send this carrier back to wherever Ba'al sent the last one. There is an outstanding fine, and we would appreciate that matter respolved.. however... without any know relatives we don't expect much. Even "Ga'al" is only a name spoken in the delirium of a dying man.. I do apologize for your loss.

Talik noticed immeadietly that the PPS was of an almost irrationally dissecting tone from the majority of the "public statment." Personal, perhaps even "private" in tone.

Sola paused when he saw the other EYE's grave faces. He realized that Mrs Toppenbottom was crying. He saw Ba'al's motionless form on the ground.

"Hes not dead, I know it. Shirly the shadow didnt bring him here only to die!" She wheeps. "He was so honest and they destroyed him!" She is sputtering nonesense. "They dont care! They dont care! How many lives have they whittled away, lost in the shuffle, and taken away!" She wails now. Loud enough to wake the dead her calls are surely heard by those outside the old GSIS armory.

A silent hand reaches out to console her, but a sudden movement from the form at her knees stops both of them short.

Rayos! He faces death itself! A sharp cry, and a relapse into his inert state from before. Ba'al was alive, barely.. but with time... perhaps soon. Mrs Toppenbottom cried again, but this time for joy and carried Ba'al away to her own chambers for proper tending. "He'll be up and talking in a day or two, dont you worry."

One EYE in the room wondered "Who is they, and what does Mrs Toppenbottom know about them?" Who? Now thats hard to tell.

Tan is edited, out of prison, and ready. Both fights are done... I have a day to clean up ball and put him on ready! Am I actually going to achieve all 4 deadlines this week!?!

Oh, and "what does Mrs Toppenbottom know? I dont know.. I didnt intend on Ba'al actually being "put to death" so much as "missing and presumed dead" ala the shadow underground dilevery service. But that whole "hes dead" perfect! Something stinks in the prison eh?

Rayos walks back to EYE headquarters, hugging the chest tightly, as if trying to squeeze pain out of it.

His wolf, Methyr, senses the pain, but nothing will cheer his master up. Methyr prods Rayos with his snout, but Rayos' only acknowlegdement is a slight pet on the head.

He continues his walk, his eyes unfocused, but feet knowing where to go.

The chest so ornate, but found in a grim setting, an ironic find.
The death of the vampire spawn, that was easy, but having to cut off elven heads, he shivered.

Their blood still stained his scimitar.

Lastly, Jad. The proud horse that had served him well. The emotions inside of him were understandable, but unbearable. Even the wolf, who could feel his master's emotions through the link could wonder how Rayos could bear them.

People passing in the streets looked at his eyes in wide shock. Such pain they held, that even a few were drawn to tears as he walked by.

He reaches the headquarters and opens the door. And in a soft, haunting voice whispers, "Someone take this chest away from me."

No one noticed however.

Rayos bowed head rose, and his eyes meet little Timmy's. Such pain and death filled them, that Timmy began to cry, and in a louder voice, a yell almost "Take this cursed box away from me!!!"

Finally the others noticed him.

Whispering a brief word of thanks to Methos he motions to wait for a second.

"Timmy come here."

As Timmy comes closer, he addresses the guild. Everyone can note the pain in his voice as he speaks.

"Is the Emissary here? Good. Well as you know, my initiatiation into the guild required some sort of task. It was simple. Little Timmy's brother went missing, but Timmy found him near a cave with some injured elves, and I was to investigate."

He turns to Timmy.

"I'm sorry Timmy, your brother is dead. I didn't kill him, but I laid him to rest. A vampire or vampire spawn got to him, and he became one of the undead."

He turns back to the guild assembled.

"Yes, vampire spawn, with two skeleton body guards. I dispatched of them all. At a great loss however, my horse and companion died. But that is not the pain I feel. Do you know what happens when a vampire spawn bites or kills a living being? They have a chance to become vampire spawns as well. Do you know how hard it is, to behead members of your own race, to spare them and to save others? Do you know how hard it is to watch a vampire spawn kill and drain the remaining life force of your brethern? This is the pain I feel."

Rayos take a moment to recompose himself.

"But information, you want information. The elves were all garbed in uniforms of the EHTC. What this means I don't know. But even more interesting is that chest. Open it up. It belongs to the TLT, the living tree, and inside is even more interesting. I want to know what is going one. The EHTC is obviously capable of something, but the TLT?"

DRAT! All that editing and I still missed like three things! Well, I will have Ba'al ready by next week if I have to pay credits to pull him up to 4th to do it!

After being away for a week since his last fight, Kendal finally returns to the EYE's headquarters. "Hello, my friends. You wouldn't believe my last fight. Due to some error a Paladin got paired up with an Evil Kobold. I almost bursted into laughter when the fight started. Anyway, this time I've got to fight an old elf wizard. Anything happened here while I'm away?" He quickly got informed about Ba'al's death and rebirth. "Ah. Death is unfortunate, but I never mourn. Certainly not if you're being reborn. I didn't know the Nimbus still existed in this part of town."

I have a notice that I'm in the guild, but I don't have the tax notice. I will do that after my fight has been posted. How does the tax thing actually work? Good luck all in this weeks fights!

"Sola... I'd be honored to face you in the arena. You'd be the second opponent that ive face one on one...between the war dogs, war horses, and wolves... i'll be lucky to ever get another victory, and this week i drew..." Talik just shakes his head "... i drew a whole pack of dogs"

The frustration clear on his face, Talik turns his attention to Rayos and the chest. "I too have heard rumors. It appears that we, along with The Living Tree, are amoung a list EHTC suspects of assasination attempts on some of their membership. With this tidbit of knowledge, i cannot beleive that this is a mere coinsidence..."

Taking Rayos'es invitation to open the chest, Talik does so, revealing the contents. Half full with a dark rich moistened soil, and an apple sized silver acron resting peacefully upon the loam..

"So um... what is it?"

Tax is probably a poor word for it. What ever you earn in the Arena, we get 10% of from the Arena "from ticket sales" or the like. You don't loose any coin, as it's the Arena that's filling thew guild coffers... That percent drops 1% for every non-class ally you have.

As soon as the chest is opened, Lortavos' throaty growl can be heard, the man-sized cat bounding towards Talik and the chest from the direction of the sleeping quarters, batting at the man's hand with sheathed claws and putting himself squarely between the box and the inquistive man.

Writing out a warning would be too slow it seems, though a second later the feline's papyrus and quill float after him, dashing out an explanation in precise if spectral hand: "It draws power from the pierced veins of celestial folk; an icon of evil at the very least. We need not know it's purpose or use to know that it must be destroyed!" The floating quill punctuates this most savagely, piercing the papyrus it writes upon before falling to the floor in front of Lortavos, his strong feelings disturbing the concentration nessecary to write, apparently.

Lortavos just stares at Ba'al, bright yellow eyes feral and seeming to lack anything resembling reason. When this fails to impart his intention, he looks down to his injured parchement, mentally willing it back into the air again to explain his statement underneath his declaration of required destruction: "It is not what you can see, but what I can smell. The soil is soaked with the blood of angels. Such sacrament would not be wasted by those such as you describe... so clearly this is an item of importance to the vampric kind. Need more be said?"

"If that be the case, then why not just get ourselves a cleric to consecrate what's inside and be done with it? It can't be THAT bad, can it?"
Kaigan

12-23-05, 11:59 PM
"IF it can be consecrated at all. I fear this object is much more powerful than a mere cleric's consecration. Still the elves death's bother me. Timmy said that the elves were already injured in the wagon. Were they something special? They wore EHTC uniforms, but I am willing to bet that they were a sacrifice or payment of sorts. I'm confused, and this chest doesn't clear any matters. I think we need an ambassador to talk with the TLT and find out what this means."

Rayos glances over at the chest again, and shivers. Something is not right with the contents of that box.

"Well now, I must be off. My horse, Jad, served me well. But I'm sure he is in a happier place now, able to roam the rolling plains forever. I will now go in search of a new mount, one worthy of Jad's position. Anyone care to join me?"

Rayos attempts to force a smile on his face, the result is a lopsided smirk, but nonetheless he feels a bit better than before, and the melancholy is out of his voice.

“It would be my honor to accompany you while you select your mount. I have witnessed first hand the advantage a good steed gives in the arena, and am highly interested in seeing what goes into choosing a proper companion for war. Lortavos, it seems, has taken it unto himself to see that no one comes near that chest. Methos, perhaps with your... pending connections at the EHTC, you can discreetly inquire about their relationship to the Living tree, any info on lost caravans, or even our mystery chest here…Rayos, I believe, may be best suited for contacting TLT. His knowledge of Nature and the understanding of those folk would be a boon in our favor, so I believe we can pay them a visit after we see the hostler. That just leaves acquiring the services of a Cleric for a consecration. Sola? Kendal? Saffron? ...any takers? We may want to slide them an extra gold for a prayer for Ba’al as well. It seems he’s wandered off again. Remember gentlemen… discretion is the better part of valor here. We do not know what we’re dealing with here, and I for one… well… we’ll know more after we talk the Priest, the Tree and those Merchants. “

Rocks begin kicking up from the ground, at the doorway to the unrepaired parts of the building. Saffron digs her tiny brass body out of the rocks and rubs at her eyes. How long has she been down there? Just digging around under the base? Has she been sleeping for the two weeks that she hasn't been seen? "I can go find you a cleric." She yawns a bit and shakes like a dog, kicking up a cloud of dust. "The question is, 'whose god do you want knowing about that box'? Ah, nevermind, I'll figure it out. I guess I'm the only one who would know the difference anyway." Saffron digs back inot the hole she crawled out of, and pulls her pack out. She carelessly reaches into it and pulls out a string necklace. It's circular amulet wooden and painted to look metal, in the shape of a dragon, curled stylisticly into a ball. She stretches wings, legs, tail, and neck in one smooth motion, then hops into the sky where she catches herself and floats like a hummingbird. "See you guys in a few... I'm so going to stop by that illusions school building ... who woulda thought some protection spell residue could make marble taste so good...."

Methos watches the dragon move out the door, shrugs, and turns to the others. "If it is really that evil, maybe it would have been better left where it was found until it could be properly disposed of. Bringing it here may have put us all in danger."

Methos turns and sits once again. "As far as my connections go, I will check with my clansmen and see what is to be heard. If the celestials don't know, maybe the arcanists will."

A Concencrate spell will not last forever. Perhaps we could consult with the druidic circle about this acorn and see if they would have use of it, or know what things my heal the soil. Either way it is not something that should be taken lightly. Celestial blood is very valuable, even if it is not in pure form. I suggest seeking a representive of both the Celestial house and the Living tree to meet us here and discuss the implications of this so that nothing remains clouded.

Sola looks for agreement or disagreement from the remaining members. I suggest Reyos seek out the druids as his skills work in harmony with theirs. I would be willing to go to the house of the Celestials if no one else would like to.

I would prefer if someone else went as I am about to move and will probably not have inet access for about 2 weeks.

Faster than anyone could have expected, Saffron flies in though a window and comes to a dead stop hovering in the center of the room. "Alright, the Celestials say they want to see the box. They've got one of their guys over talking to the Tree-bees and they're thinking what I'm thinking, by which I mean that maybe the trees are being framed, so we should have a nice discussion with them. Mr. Enzoul said "Please bring word to Lortavos that the Celestial Forces would like to see the chest. I will examine the artifact myself, and if necessary talk to my superiors for guidance. If it is an evil item, it must be destroyed and I already know the perfect person to go on such a mission." I'm pretty sure he ment Maeril, since they were giving each other funny looks. So Lortavos, you want to carry it over there? I can fly it over if you don't want to. They said they wanted one of our people to keep an eye on things, and go around with Maeril (or whoever), and see to it that it gets destroyed, or at least we figure out what the heck is going on."

Guildmaster CEF is proposing a joing CEF/EYE quest to destroy the artifact. Probably ECL 4. Quest rules say that team questers must be within 1 ecl of each other. Any takers?

The hooded figure makes his appearance once again…

...The Celestial Forces eh? I've never been a big fan. I've often wondered how much better their extreme on the "axis of good and evil" is vs. the alternative. I think it’s still a good idea to speak to the living tree, but I don’t believe it can hurt to let those paladins up the hill take a peek at Rayos’ little find here. As it stands right now, there is another player in this game who hasn’t shown themselves as of yet.

The emissary quietly surveys the friends gathered in their dusty little homestead

…Seeing you all gathered here, warms my heart. I believe together you can restore order and fend off the chaos. This is where our paths must diverge. I have a quest of my own to undertake, and the time is right. I will seek out this hidden puppet master from within the shadows he clings to so tightly… In my absences, I name you all as a council of Equals. Take care of our little piece of heaven here, and those within her walls until I return...

I hate running NPCs ; ). Anyway, if i havent been clear before, my intent is not to have the Emissary as the "guildmaster". Rayos should do what ever he thinks is best. i want the emissary to be available to nudge or expose plot hooks, but we (the characters) are the ruling council of this guild. Any and everyone should feel free to pull him out and use him when appropriate...

Quests with CEF. Awesome! Those guys are all ECL 5 + so this may be limited to our "big guns". Perhaps we can combine this with Saffrons quest to Join the eye proper. I was hoping to get some mileage out of this "arc", but can see this turning around quick with the addition of a couple of other guilds. Anyway I’m all in. If they want to keep it low end ECL, Maeril and our guys, that's cool as well. Talik will not participate in the quest, however. I am dead set on wining one battle in the arena before I do anything else ; )

Rayos nods, and consults with the others.

"So what shall it be? Should I go pay the Living Tree a visit and find out more information? Or should we just have those Celestial Forces have a look? I'm up for visiting the Living Tree, perhaps they can shed some light on this."

Rayos looks around the room waiting for a reply.

At Talik's interpretation of Lortavos' intent, he purrs slightly in agreement, sitting down before the chest without further adieu and listening to the continuing conversation with lidded eyes, but perky ears. Through the coming nights, the krenshar declines to return to his bunk, guarding the chest even in his sleep; light as a felines always is. For an hour the chest is left behind, work at the arena being taken care of as he returns with some gold for the guild afterwards.

Reviving more when Saffron returns, he growls softly, glancing around and nudging Talik with a paw, then going over to poke the chest. Though carrying its weight should be no difficult task for the man-sized cat, getting it up and on his back and secured there is perhaps beyond his paper-levitating abilities.

Once the chest is properly secured, Lortavos moves towards the door, chuffing at Saffron and waiting to follow the flying reptile to the door of the celestial forces.

So, Lortavos will lug it over with Saffron (I'm posting in the CEF thread now), and will go on the quest. Mm, I'll have to start running fights again to afford this... Ah well.

As his friends make their way out of the Armory, Talik refelects on the words of the emissary...'I've often wondered how much better their extreme on the "axis of good and evil" is vs. the alternative.' Saffron may be flighty, but she is a dragon. Lortavos is, well, he's a Lortavos. They would be fine. Rayos can take care of himself, as can Methos. Taking surevey of his surroundings, Talik rests easy for a brief moment. Ba'al hasn't returned as of yet, but this was expected. Sola and Kendal were here, and all seems secure. His mind left to roam, the frustration and the anger at his performance in the arena begins to creep into his mind. '5 consecutive losses! Putrid! With all being takencare of, perhaps i should focus on my performance. Is it too much to ask that the gladiators fight fair? One on One, Man to Man, Fists to Fists. What is fair? Every fight i've lost has been against superior numbers. It appears that *my* rules don't apply here. Would it be below me to play by the rules presented? ... the rules as presented. Pehaps this is what Lein meant by 'only under the watchful eye will you be able to take this next step'.

It was a good day. Sola saw Talik surveying the group that had come to the ruins. He took a moment to survey them himself. A dragon, a ranger of the woods, Lortavos, a trio of monks and himself. Ba'al would be along shortly the darkness had told him, but it was neither the time or the place to consider such things. Talik was having a rough time he could see it on the monk's face. Time would heal those wounds but for now there was always more rubble to clear.

Methos had stated that he was going to fight this week, there was little time before the annoucements, but soon fate would dictate the week.

Look what I found hiding in the shadows. Upon entering the compound Ba'al kicked the orcin man to the floor. This one serves the death urge. A necromancer called Xerxes. I agree with Master Talik here Ba'al, if we kill indiscriminatly we become no better than the evil we seek to defeat. Sola watches Ba'al carefully, he does his best to indicate that he has something more to say but certain memebers of the present company should be excluded.
Book5

01-03-06, 06:10 PM
Ba'al looks at his allies. His face stone and unreadable. His dagger evaporates as he grabbes the orc's thick head by the hair. He forces him to his knees.

C'mon guys! I wouldnt drag some shoplifter in here and string him up. I said he serves the death urge .. "undead" I think you call it around here. Ok, sure I found you pilling bones of people you had helped kill. You were promised "eternal" life right? But why don't you explain to these good folks why you begged me to kill you on holy ground?

Ba'al's slip from subtly funny to furious was somewhat frightening. Whatever he had found this half blood doing.. Ba'al considered it worth far more than a trip to the prison. The orc looked to his would be angels, but his eyes betrayed the truth. This creature had descended to inhuman acts on the promise of glory beyond imagine, and he knew that his failure could only bring him death. Death at the hands of those loved ones sould he had helped steal. Death at the hand of Xerxes simply for getting caught. Death at the hands of justice.

You would rather let this tainted soul fester in a place that should be for restitution. I died from the aggression of one such as him. Not an accident, but a human boil that shared space with those in search of bettering themselves. Ba'al's face was calm. The light from his eyes seemed to cast shadows on the walls. Talik realized that Ba'al had become something more.. serious.. than he was before his death. The simple psi-tracker in search of an elusive prey seemed ready to become some sort of.. shadow prophet?

Speak!

The half orc half man began to tell his tale to those who stood before him. Those who stood for him were disheartened by the tales of defiling the graves of the dead. Dissapointed by the retelling of selling the living to vampires for services rendered, but it was right after he started to speak of the children that Ba'al decided to yank the chain.

Enough. I take it? His gaze glides accross the room. The shadow's man directs the orc to sit in the corner and say nothing. Ba'al was a hunter before all else, he did not trust "prey" out of his sight.

If you kill him does it not mean that he gains his reward? Do gods not give the chance for redeption? I know that I have seen it and I know that you have experienced it being here alive. He seems like a pawn in the grand scheme of things but if you can find out what he knows and where it might lie then perhaps he may be of use. Hunting undead is a dangerous thing but if you work your way up the food chain perhaps you can find the location of Xerxes himself.

Sola's expression does not change as Ba'al shifts from jovial to serious.

Ok, I moved, and got my inet back today. I have no fights this week so I'll be lurking over here.

At the mention of his own rebirth Ba'al's zeal seems to waver. He looks at the half-blood in the corner, then back to Sola.

He is just a pawn. In that you are right, but what do you suggest we do with him? Release him? Take him to the prison? You speak of redemption, yet can you stomach the thought of what may happen if this creature.. already stained with the blood of the innocent.. is not interested in becoming a better person?

Ba'al's grim mask turns again to the half-orc.

Care to punch out the 'ole "I'll be good" spiel for the orc? Point of note: this is what I expected to happen :D Remember just because Ba'al is not evil.. that doesnt automatically make him a "good" person.. and executions are the epitome of "lawfulness"
Erithmu

01-07-06, 05:01 PM
That is for him to decide.

Turning his attention for the moment to the half-orc Sola maintains his blank stare to make sure he has the orc's full attention. You are faced with a very difficult problem here. For very good reasons we can have you put to death outside the protection of Gladius. I offer you a choice, one that you should take seriously. You can renounce your ways and help us in finding Xerxes, someone who was using you to do his work. From what Ba'al tells me he is a man not to be trusted. If you do this and tell us what you know your life may be spared. I can not promise you the transistion will be easy. We are a small group but we do have friends that are powerful, they are in discussion with others for the moment but will come back. If there is any sign of treachery in you then they shall have you, or if they are not available a worse pain than death. I do not hold any information back about what awaits you so you may think for a moment before you decide.

Sola feels the tension in the air and around Ba'al's hand waiting for the orc's response.
Book5

01-07-06, 06:42 PM
Ba'al is not a heartless being, but in his uncaring heart he did not expect the orcin man before him to relent from his ways. Even if he said he was repentant. Even if he showed a willingness to co-operate with Sola's demands.. the xephan hunter would believe what he expcted to be true. Indeed, as his blade snapped and crackled to life.. a subtle sizzle in a moment of silence, Ba'al began to thinkof Sola's words. " .. the redemption you recieved yourself... "

Perhaps death IS the most "proper doorway" to redemption.. He thought with equal parts malice and concern. Either way. He will tell me more of Xerxes before this day is done.

Silent as the grave, Ba'al stood awaiting word to action. Like a hound on point, he had been trained to react to directives. At just that moment a part of him, like a memory of another life, nagged at his mind. The familiar stance. A fighting posture tought to him by his master, his teacher of the mind. That moment passed and he returned to this moment. His blade in hand. Focused, ready. He would not harm the orc, but he would persist in frightening him.

Sola turns to face Kendal. A rather odd scene considering Ba'al has a manifested soulknife to the back of a half-orc's neck. Business as usual Kendal, Ba'al has caputred a servant of a necromancer, someone who raises the dead to unlife. While the servant is no immediate threat we must still decide how to handle him. Do we give him life although he deserves death or do we give him death so that his master may use him more?

Sola, for the moment, put his focus on Kendal aware that he had put the monk in a rather philosophical situation.

The beauty of Gladius is that you get to write your own past present and future for your character. In a normal game your fate is somewhat ditcated by the GM. Here you use various GM's to build a character and write his history. Don't feel like you have to go on quests or spend large credits. Just popping in and saying hi and dealing with other issues is enough to build a background. From there you can add in your own twists and turns, the system that is set up here is very flexable. Some people just want to have a chance to show off good gaming skills, others like a little RP w/ their senseless violence.

Your involvement is only as much as you want it to be.

Mrs. Topplebottom was just comming out of the kitchen. In one hand was a log for the Stew fire. The other was a wooden spoon which would be a fearsome weapon if she ever decided to participate in the Arena. Stopping for a step she surveyed the situation before her. She then resumed her work of moving the evening meal to the common room for consuption. Timmy had made some trouble in the dinning room recently so sitting around the fire and using rubble for seats had become commonplace.

Pointing the spoon at Ba'al she stated, almost with a threat, Ba'al if your going to put a knife in to the back of that orc's head I'm not going to clean up after you. Now all of you need to calm down some and eat some stew. It will be ready in a moment. While your at it you might as well give the orc a final meal, its only civilized. Without a moment of time to respond she had quickly returned into the kitchen and began yelling at Timmy to help her with the stew pot.

Needed to cut down some of the tension in the room. Since we are going to be buying a building here soon I would love to use Sblocks to hold our discussion as it removes the clutter from the RP and allows us to still have lenghty discussions about what to build.

I know that we were toying with 2 main buildings:
-the basic living quarters to upgrade for Saffron and Rayos (2k gp)
-the Mayor's house to have some constant income flow regardless of if we have fighters (3k gp)fighting.

Perhaps some time to think is what is needed. Ba'al looks at his companions. We really don't have the facilities to keep him contained here. Perhaps the holy men? He turns to the orc. Your keeping awfully quiet on the matter.

The night passes...

No one can sleep soundly with Ba'al on edge like he is. In the shadow of the twilight morning the Xephan hunter (still with one cold eye on the orc) looks out to the east. He hasnt slept even though the orc and the others seemed to have enough sense to rest.

Do I dare leave him here alone? Not alone.. I am not the only EYE. He thought to himself as he stared at a massive tree. He had seen this monument of life from the roadside as he came to this land. Perhaps the hunter he was would have been better suited for the forest life, but the ShadowMan he had become belonged in the heart of the city.

Ba'al turned to survey the room. Some EYEs were absent to dispose of the strange chest. Saffron's little dirt pile had grown no larger since the four had left for the CEF. Talik rested with heavy thoughts of the city on his mind. Sola had retreated to her privacy and only Mrs Toppelbottom had roused to start the morning porridge. She was refusing to speak with Ba'al until he started acting reasonable.

Ba'al stepped to the porridge pot. His eyes spoke louder than his words could. He offered the older woman one of his throwing axes. She rolled her eyes and waved his weapon away with her utinsel. The hunter partook of a mouthful of porridge, its warmth giving him strength. Then, with a nod, Ba'al rolled out into the dawn.

Watching Ba'al leave he waited till the Xeph was out of earshot to look at the orc. He's really a nice guy, you just happened to work for the guy who he hates with a passion. The orc simply nodded with some vigor, Don't lie to me or It will not be him who kills you but perhaps someone else. If you want to live you have to learn to become that which you are not. Sola stood up setting his meal on the rocks and walked over to the orc who began to cower some. Sola reached down and undid the creatures handcuffs. Turning around he walked back to the stew pot and got another bowl and set it down next to the spot he was eating and took up his own bowl. He simply pointed at it and then went back to his own. In somewhat of a shock the half-orc didn't know what to do, run or eat. In the end he gave into his stomach and began to slurp down the stew.

Slow down my friend, what is your name? K'ronk Well K'ronk my name is Sola, and the fine meal you are eating is made by Mrs' Toppenbottom. She is a nice lady till you do some inappropriate manners. K'ronk had finished his first bowl and was trying to decide if he could get away with another bowl. In the end he simply pointed at the stew with his bowl and Sola nodded. K'ronk got up and got seconds. I have a choice for you K'ronk, you can stay here with us and learn, or you can go back to the way you were. I can tell you that if you stay Mrs T. will make sure Ba'al does not kill you, as long as you try to be nice to him. If you run, well the next time Ba'al finds you he won't bring you back here.

Sola saw that K'ronk understood his choices and was thinking them over, about as fast as a half-orc would. Thankfuly the food had allowed K'ronk to think some and maintain enough sanity to make a good choice. K'ronk stay, learn from So'a and Topbottom. What K'ronk need to do? Sola smiled at the orc and replied Tonight nothing, tomorrow morning go visit Mrs. ... Topbottom and do whatever she says ... WHATEVER she says. I'll talk to her first, but be careful, half-orc ways are not human ways With that he finished his meal.

Timmy sits outside the armory, looking to the western horizon. A bird pecks on a rock nearby.
What do you think sparrow? the shoeless waif asked the bird retorically. K'ronk is gonna be alright with us right? So far the half-orc had not found any weight to pull. Mostly he was just silent and gratefull for the stew shared by EYEs.

The wise little birdy's only responce was to *twitter* and continue pecking at the rock. It knew that in the nooks and the cranneys of the solid rock, it would find some soft morsals to enjoy. The wise little birdy also knew that even if his opnion of K'ronk was given human voice.. it would not change Timmy's mind. The two agreed. K'ronk was safer, happier, and fullfilled with more potential than this "Xerxes" could ever hope to offer him.

The bird found its morsal. A scuttleing bug. With a bug in its beak, the bird took flight. Returning to its own nest, as Timmy sat outside his own. I wonder when Ba'al will get back from his walk.. its been two days now..

His quest over; Lortavos returns to the guild, bearing a single thin new scar along his side. A long written account catches everyone up on the particulars of what occured (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=560515). "Maeril was a more than worthy partner; what I have heard of paladine... unflexibility seems to not be a general principle."

Though he was ultimately successfull, the experience seems to have brought a new quietness to the krenshar, lending him to levitating things about less often and sleeping beside the fire or the leg of one of the servants more frequently. The new Orc in the base draws Lortavos' annoyance, causing him to growl slightly whenever he comes too near, but otherwise leaving the humanoid alone.

News of who he is to battle this week does perk up Lortavos slightly; its not many people that get a shot at such a fearsome figure as the Harvester, after all. Of course, while he is not victorious (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8282682&postcount=64), he does make a good showing, coming tantalizingly close to overwhelming the fearsome being, setting him on the defensive for the good part of a minute.

Well, that all went more or less as I expected. I'll write up some bardic stuff for Lort and send it off to the guild account this week or the next, since it's being asked for.

A polite knock on the door precedes the entrance of Sunstroke (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8233659). The half-giant somehow appears much shorter than his height (which approaches 8 feet), looking humble and insecure.

"Hello? Is anyone here?" Seeing that there is, he continues: "While lying unconscious after my fight this week... well, I suppose I was dead, not unconscious..." he shudders at the memory, "an image appeared in my mind of a hooded figure, telling me to seek this place out. Who are you?"

Sunstroke is not actually going to join the EYE, don't get your hopes up. But it's in his nature to respond to a direct invitation as a matter of courtesy. Thought I'd get some role-playing in. It's also a good opportunity to discuss the focus of your guild--unlike all the others (except WAR), I couldn't tell what the objectives of your guild are. I gathered the method, but not the goals. Since you're non-evil, it's clearly not just to gain power, like EHTC or PSI. Is it to resolve conflict... through assassination? That sounds like what you mean, but it also doesn't sound non-evil. I also noticed that your stated purpose is labeled as just "proposed," so maybe now is a good time to hammer it out.

A small but muscled elven woman walks into the guildhouse, brushing past the half-giant. She adresses the shadows:

Guilmaster, I have received you missives. I have also been informed of the goals of this organization and seen its members. The goals do not entirely agree with me. And concerning its members, I think I could beat your first four so called Watchers by myself even if they all ganged up on me. I do not mean to insult, I am simply stating facts. What would I gain if your guild were to ally itself with me?

Be warned though, if I catch anyone of your members spying on my affairs again, they will be summarily disposed of.

With the personality I had in mind for Kitaya, I think The Watchful Eye is not the appropriate guild for her. Thank you for the PM though, even if I am a little late in responding.

Sola finishes his bite as the two newcomers arrive and introduce themselves, if not arrogantly. Sunstroke, Kitaya. You are welcome within the guild hall here any time you like.

He first turns to Sunstroke as he was the first to arrive. We are the members of the EYE, we seek knowledge first and to use that knowledge to protect and defend the members of Gladius. While we are few currently we are in hopes that those with similar goals would find a home here, and if not a home, a place of rest.

Turning toward Kitaya Sola considers the elven woman What one gains from the EYE is not always seen. Sometimes that which we think we need is not what leads us to where we stand. I watched your fight in the great hall with Kendal. You handled yourself very well. Perhaps your gains here are not allies but wisdom and peace. You are direct in your inquires but I do not have the answers you seek, and the Emissary speaks only to those who he thinks has potential.

My appologies for not getting back to the two of you. Gone for the weekend, midterm, paper, cold, power turned off etc etc. Currently the Guild is in a state of flux as we recently lost the original guildmaster. I am doing what I can here. You are welcome to roleplay some more, but there might be a stalking out.

A shadow forms behind Sola as she speaks. It is her shadow, but it is not at the same time.

A voice fill the minds of those present,

None have spied upon you lady.. Unless you would strike out at your own shadow... Kitaya the light of your own soul has brought you here. Manifest through me and carried on the wings of the sparrows to you.

The shadow seems to pass over half-giant.

Know Kitaya that you are the equal (no greater despite your power, no less for your arrogance) to all EYEs for only you see what you must see. You could be welcome... if you so wish. At times we must strike softly, and at others hard.

The shadow fades and in its place a young boy seems to manifest (truthfully only standing in the shadows unseen by any save Sola) from the shadow's wake. Timmy his name was, and he wore no shoes. Sola could see the boy was trying to emulate Ba'al, a figure he respects.

Welcome sunstroke, Kitya. Stay, join us for food. There is enough for all. Perhaps we can talk. The shadowman wouldn't have invited you if you couldn't find a purpose here. Honestly.. other than an ideal. Justice, and a method.. subtlty.. the EYEs are not much more than a camp of gladiators on the outskirts of town...

He steps to the cauldren and laddles out some soup.

Cmon.. here ya go.

Just then a half-orc "K'ronk" enters from the other side of the room. Recognizing Kitaya as an unknown warrior .. he hesitates. The only one that has been kind to him is Sola.. and she looks somewhat concerned regarding the "stability" of the tiny elven woman. The tiny giant on the other hand, remains almost unnoticed.

Sunstroke occupies a corner of the table and begins to eat, deep in thought about the guild. Not contributing to the conversation, the unobtrusive giant consumes his soup quickly. Justice through stealth, knowledge to defend... a worthy goal. But would he really fit in?

The half-giant contemplates this quietly as the meal progresses, then rises as soon as it is polite to do so. "Thank you for dinner. I need some time to think about all this. I'm still... adjusting to life here, and I'm not really sure where I fit in. I'll keep your offer in mind, and get back to you later. If you'll excuse me," Sunstroke bows and exits, distracted in thought.

Sunstroke will be back from time to time with some RPing, and perhaps more.... I have a plan for the character's development, but it'll take months to play out and I don't want to spoil anything. :D

---***---

The common room has been quiet for some time. Timmy is passed out on some rocks with a blanket half covering him. Lortavos was asleep next to the embers of the fire. Ba'al had not been seen in some time and Kendal was in his chambers. Sola however was tying straps to his pack down and doing his best to remain as quiet as possible. When he had donned the pack he turned to see Lortavos eyeing him. The shadow spoke to me in a dream and woke me. I will return but watch the house while I am gone. Tell Ba'al not to kill K'ronk. The Krenshar nodded and returned to sleep, aware that there was not enough light for Sola to read his notes. Sola moved to Timmy and put the blanket fully on and then walked out into the darkness.

Don' hurt K'ro.. Ba'a.. he go'd.. now..

Outside the front door K'ronk sat watching. His eyes and ears both failed to find Sola before she laid her hands on his shoulder.

Sola, I would thank you. The hunter simply smiled and nodded and continued on his mission in stealth. He had heard that Ba'al had been dragged back to the prison already.

He better not get himself killed.. again! was the thought on all thier minds. The EYE needed every hand it could to build a foundation of strength. The Xeph was principled, perhaps the most dedicated of the guild (going so far as to worship the shadowman) he was nonetheless the least reliable.

And so the guild continues on. Members coming and going on various missions or occasionally matters of honor. Lortavos is defeated again (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8356683) in the arena but seems unaffected by his loss, strengthened even as his performance is reviewed by the arena officials and judged to be sufficiently advanced to move into the next bracket of pairings. He decides to celebrate by pouncing and sitting on K'ronk, purring with amusement as the orc squirms and tries to get out from underneath him, while Timmy explains that this is just his way of accepting K'ronk as almost everyone else has seemed to have done.

The boy looked at the orc trying his best to get out from underneath. umm... some guy named Sola told me to find him and to have him come with me and to bring a horse.

Lortavos looked over at the boy and then looked down at K'ronk. His happiness appeased he hopped off the orc and let the orc do his work. K'ronk took a horse and went with the boy.

A charismatic person in resplendent priest robes carefully enters the guildhouse.

Lortavos, where are you, my dear friend? I once more want to express my gratitude at your aid in our quest to cleanse the Silver Acorn. That deed has once again brought me within the favor of my patron deity and allowed me to be victorious in the arena. Thank you, I am much obliged.

There is some question within the ranks of our guild if we should attempt to replace a corrupt official or expand our living quarters. Do any of you have further intelligence on this official and the dark deeds he is suspected of. Could anyone within your ranks report your findings at our guildhouse? It may help to sway or more reluctant members. I think both our guilds will benefit from replacing such officials with those more interested in upholding the law and serving justice, don't you agree?

Lortavos comes padding out of the sleeping quarters almost before Maeril begins speaking; his scent proceeds him and the krenshar is not one to forget a smell. Rumbling in agreement at the mention of the Acorn, Lortavos moves up to the Paladin and then towards the fire, leading the way more or less. Tilting his head to one side at the question, the catlike member of EYE chuffs almost scoldingly as though the answer should be obvious.

Fetching his writing implements with a glance towards his 'den' in the sleeping area, Lortavos writes: "I do not have personal knowledge of this official, perhaps one of my compatriots does. If so, we would gladly assist you in presenting this information to your peers. It should be clear that matters of integrity take precedence over temporal concerns."

Sola walked with K'ronk back toward the EYE Guildhall. There seemed to be lots of construction taking place nearby. As he rounded the corner, it was actually taking place within the EYE itself. Never one to be in a rush he came up and watched as the building crew was putting the final touches on the old rooms. Things were much more comfortable. Curious, But I do think we will be spoiled if we take too much comfort in it. Kron'k was happy they had replaced all the beds and now he was able to use a matress instead of the cold hard ground. Lortavos' den had added a fireplace and they had started construction on a roost for Saffron should the dragon ever decide to return.

Lortavos was resting his wounds near the fire pit. It looked like he had getten into a nasty scrape. I have always been curious Lortavos, but do mind if you get a scratch behind the ears now and again. I have never had the courage to ask till now, and figured asking was better than being wrong.

Rearing back on his hind-legs, the krenshar begins to roar, the mighty sound stopping halfway when he has to hack up a hairball, causing him to fall over on his back, paws wiggling feebly in the air. A comical sight if ever there was one.

Sola gives the Krenshar a quick scratch on the head before returning to his room to unpack from his travels. He was about half way done when he commented, You think I am being to obvious? The shadow responded, No, but you were careless. Your skills are improving but it is not yet time for you to become fully what you are.

Sola did not turn around to face the whisp of shadow and darkness behind him in his room. He considered the statement. Shadows do not exist unless they are produced by light. Sola thought. True but if there is no light at all everything becomes dark. The shadow spoke behind him.

Become light so that the shadows can be seen, This does not remove them unless there is light from all sides.

Or, you become the source and no shadow comes from you.

Sola thought for a moment longer, then finished his unpacking before meditating and returning to the common room to find K'ronk and Mrs. Toppenbottom setting the evening meal.

It's all good, I think Reyos is going campaigning, so we are down him as well. I might ask guildlords and then Val to see if we can get Saffron on the roster. Sola and Ba'al share a bond. They are both the shadow's men. As such, and seeing as their fates were tied so closely via the ever watchful eye.. Ba'al saw vison's of his brother's quest. He awoke while sleeping under the great tree (seeking visions such as these) with a start. He had seen Sola enter the strange villiage, and was on his feet ready to run to his brother's aid before realizing he had no way of finding this hamlet. Certainly not in time to help Sola against the halfling thieves.

In his dream he had seen K'ronk, the half-orc he had nearly executed. The simple minded man had been a solace to suffering gypsy woman. A beacon of hope to a loss lorn lady. Ba'al was not ashamed that he had nearly put the man to death, but he was glad he hadn't. He looked up to the tips of the great tree and decided it was time to go home. Something (a little birdy) told him that there was a bed waiting for him.

On a whim he decided to head by the temple of Jade and then to the arena to handle his latest list of violations before making his way back to his home, the armory of the ever watchful EYE.

Sola finished his meal and thanked K'ronk and Mrs. Toppenbottom for the fine meal. The woman just smiled and took the complement with grace that angels might envy. Lortavos had been playing with Timmy and the boy had been happy to play with someone.

News that the copper dragon had fallen had reached the ears of the guild and although no one would admit to it, most were disappointed that Saffron might not return.

Kendal had been getting forgetful as to his arena appearances. His meditations and personal exercises had almost consumed the monk's time. He rarely came out to evening meals and would normally take meal back to his room.

Reyos had packed his bags one night to leave Gladius for an extend period of time with 3 others. Mr. Toppenbottom had seen him depart but his whereabouts was only found after he was two days gone and a talk with the city watch.

Ba'al had been rumored to been seen at the great tree to the east of Merisa and then traveled to the Celestial Gates and admitted within. He could not see past the gates but he could sense his shadow brother's heart and the trouble that battled within. Soon you will see. Passion and detication will sometimes blind you to the good things in life

Sola had been in battle with a dragon this week and through fortune and fate he had been mostly unharmed. It was only afterward that he had been told that the bigger they get, the more dangerous they become. He counted himself fortunate that he had defeated the dragon with a great measure of luck.

So much darkness to deal with. The guild lies on the wall, unsure of which way to fall. Granted the construction had given the guild a better feeling of home, but there were still shadows where light should reside. Some of the building re-enforcement was starting to hold and further progression of the reconstruction was starting to make the GSIS look more like the building it had been.

@Book5: can you link me to where you found the GSIS info from the history thing, I would be interested to know what you do.

Sola gave a sideways smile at the bird and then held out his hand. The bird hopped up onto the outstreched arm. Looking at the winnings Sola knew that Ba'al had won his fight. It was good to see him finally have an upturn in his life. Unstrapping the winnings he took it over to what was serving as the clan vault. He placed the tax rewards inside and let the bird settle in the main room.

Kendal was in his room meditating. He had spent much time there recently, Sola was beginning to worry about the monk.

Lortavos had had a string of last second losses, his prowess was very impressive but he sometimes lacked the energy to finish the fight.

Life carried on at the old GSIS building. When Ba'al returned, there would be rejoycing. Sola went into the kitchen to make some plans for the Xeph.

Congrats on a win Book5, it has been a long time comming with all the prison issues and deaths and other stuff. Hopefully this a sign of things to come.

Other news: Sola is going to be crafting here in the next couple of weeks when he either wins once or loses twice. Gonbow I am wondering if you can have Lortavos fight a couple of fights in a row if he takes this week off.

I am hoping we can get 2000 gp so that we can drop down a cash structure. (the 2000 version with the new rules) It will give a bonus to use who have some profession skills to add to taxes. With our high number of wisdom requirements I can see that being benifical to the long run. It will give the guild the ability to make 184gp +arena winnings pure profit. After that I am hoping to put in precaution measures for some of the bad weekly random events.

Though defeated once again, Lortavos remains a cheerful 'mascot' of sorts for the guild, prevailing over red tape again and again by growling and staring at the plump beaucrat until the matter resolves itself. The bird gets a distinctly 'hungry' glance, but the krenshar leaves it alone, satisfying himself on less crunchy fair, like the stew produced in prodigious quantities by the kitchen.

Sola and the mighty Lortavos rested in the "dinning room" of the old GSIS building. The krenshar's batlike ears heard the tell tale crunch of two legged footfalls. Sola noticed his companion's sudden attention and stood. A downside to the EYE's methods. You never knew what the shadow might drag in. The catlike Lortavos barely had a chance to raise his hackles before the familiar scent of bloodstained xeph reached his nose.

A friendly furball pounced on the weary traveler. Sola let out a shout for Mrs. Toppenbottom and the others. A warm welcome for Ba'al, the kind of homecoming the outlander had least expected. Smiles around and conversation over steaming soup, Ba'al told the story of where he had been.

I sought the advice of the two greatest beings in this land. The living tree, and the harmonious Jade. Niether woould speak with one such as me directly, but... The neophyte holy man spoke with honest humility. I spoke with many of the wise under the shadow of the tree, and I came upon an idea. You are right Sola. It is not for us be executioners. In the heat of conflict perhaps - but even then... with the nimbus... we can too easily make a mistake.

The xeph looked about the room for the half-orc whose blood had nearly been on his head. K'ronk was outside, leery of the grey eyed hunter. Ba'al continued to speak. He told his tale throughout the night. Speaking with Enzoul had been an honor in and of itself. The high priest of the celestial expidetionary forces had been hopefull of future relations between the EYE and the CEF. He had however made no promises other than good favor.

Ba'al has a vision of some sort of rehabilitation facility. Little did the simple hunter realize, but the future plans of the EYE already held an answer within them....

yay! that took forever.. meant to be like a two week thing - yeesh scheduals :nonono: Ba'al will be active this week - seeing as Tan is amongst a decent crowd and well.. if Ba'al is on a roll ;) then I shouldn't stop! :D

"Bahamut's beard, you are never going to believe this nonsense!" Suddenly everyone in the EYE's hair stands up on their necks. The cacophonous voice of the dragon, not heard in months, echoe's through the crumbling structure of the old GSIS building. "I don't even make it through the city gate before that pissant white, Frost, is thumbing his nose at me, calling on the dark goddess and demanding I turn over my horde. My Horde! What kind of joke is that? That musclebound dolt sleeps on copper! Like he'd even know what a gemstone looked like.

What?" Saffron looks around at the befuddled faces trying to figure out what they find so strange. "So of course I have to fight him, right? I mean, like I'm going to stand there and take that in front of half the city. And he has the nerve to bring up that Blue that me and Morgan and Daeren went chasing after. Like I even did anything to her. She beat me all the way to the next plane the second I laid eyes on her, and Frost is calling for revenge for her? What did she do, send a messenger down here to find me so she could beat me up again?

And I havn't even been around! I wake up at this monestary all hurting and stuff and they all tell me that they used to be affiliated with GSIS, back before some war or something. And they're all real nice, taking care of me like that for no reason." The brass dragon is still hovering as franticly as she is speaking. Everyone but her notices that a tiny crystal, like the psicrystals that many of the psions keep as pets, crawls out of her pack and hops to the ground. The tiny little ectoplasmic crystal circles around like a dog, seeming to look all over the room trying to spot something.

"And you will never believe this; The monestary guys give me directions home, right, and I have to go flying for days through this gray open sky with no ground below it. Then I find this giant floating rock with a wierd magic gate, but somebody's already there. He's all trying to rig the gate up so that it will open to the abyss. The Abyss of all places! So I knock the guy out and tie him up and try to question him, but he dosn't speak any language I've ever heard of. Complete gibberish. So I figure 'what the heck, he wants to visit other planes, I'll hook him up.' So I tell Git to reset the gate to open to the heavens. Gate opens to a field with a buch of hound-men, and I call them over, tell them what this guy's trying to pull off. We all have a good laugh and I turn the guy over to them.

Then Git resets the door again and we head back here. Droped us off in the mountains nearby and I flew the rest of the way over this afternoon. And the second I get through the gate, there's Frost. "For Tiamat and Cillansha." Can you believe the nerve of that wyrm? Saffron proceeds to tell the story of Frost challenging her again.

Sola can only smile at the tiny copper dragon and feel like some part of the guild is whole again. Welcome home Saffron. Sola waits as the dragon continues her seemingly endless barage of words. When he does finally get a moment to speak the foreman of the construction group walks over. A quick consultation later and Sola turns back to Saffron. Your room should be ready in a week, you can go make sure that they have everything where you want it. They haven't done too much decorating but you should just make sure it's how you like it. Oh, and don't kill the orc, he's the new butler and he is learning, fun is ok, but be kind.

Sola then addresses the Psi-crystal to the best of his ability. You are Sola, follower of the light of darkness. Sola was caught off guard. The crystal crawled over and up into his hand before taking the shape of himself. I am a gift of the Githerzai, to be an aid in need and a way of communication. This place needs much work, I will help if you direct me how. Sola nodded, there was plenty of work to be done and not enough willing to do so.

First off, welcome to Vath who now has his dragon all guilded up, and with luck there is suddenly a room available. You won't make us tax this week with your fight against Frost, but after that your at 10%

Those of you who are wanting to play with Git(the psi crystal) he speaks in italic purple and communicates through telepathy more than anything else. K'ronk is offically installed as a butler/servant so now Ba'al really can't kill him.

In other news Sola is going to be crafting for probably 2 weeks starting the 15th, so if you could activate your characters to get us enough cash to build our cash house that would be awesome. We have a higher upkeep right now so that would rule. This is due to the fact that I have spring break starting then and will need a little R&R.

Sola is going to want to try to put together an all Guild quest probably shortly after he does his crafting. More for a RP prospective than anything else (possibly relating to our cash structure that will be built, or maybe go fight the gang that has built up, we shall see.), but then again he might help with the TAO reclaiming if everything goes sour. Demons and Devils are nasty!

Additionally: I suck with map makers so if someone wanted to work on some artistic maps I would defer the Guildlord credit over for a week, and each week that we need to update the map.

Smiling broadly as he walks down the stairs, Sir Doyle finds it comforting to be back home in Gladius. He was comforted to find that nothing had changed at the Flaming Stables Inn ... the same regulars were still there, he is served wine out of the same chipped mug and Peg was still serving the food.

Peg looks up the bar where she was taking a few moments to rest her feet - Hey hon, it's nice to have you back! Can I get you some breakfast?

Doyle shakes his head - No, not this morning. I have some business to attend to. I'm afraid that I have to-

Okay, well pull up a seat any time. With that said, Peg rushes back to work, taking the time to find out what someone else is ordering.

Doyle smiles and heads out the door. No sooner does he walk out the door and some of the local street urchins are at his feet.

Mister Doyle! Mister Doyle! Where ya been? You sure were gone for a long time. Yeah! Where'd you go? Did you see any monsters? Did you kill a dragon?

Hey kids. Doyle reaches into his pocket and hands some hard candy to each of the children near by, tossing a piece or two to the children that were too chy to approach him. I've been adventuring, I did see a few monsters, but no dragons.

No dragons? Well what didja see?

I saw quite a few monsters, but that'll have to wait for later. Why don't I tell you some stories tonight when I come home for dinner? I have some business to attend to.

Awww. Okay. We'll be waiting!

Doyle slips past the children and makes his way through the streets of Gladius. Everywhere he looks, the streets are bustling, the business are alive and things are good. As he passes the market, he enjoyes the boquet of aromas that make their way to his nose - fresh flowers, fruit, baked goods and even some freshly caught fish. He quickly finds himself within Merisia and begins his search for THE WATCHFUL EYE headquarters.

------------------------------------------------------------

After some searching, he finds what he has been looking for - the remnants of the GSIS. It wasn't too hard to find it, but it wasn't exactly what he was expecting, either. Just then, a rather effeminate looking orc steps out from a hole in a broken down wall and tosses a bucket of slop into the street.

What you want? Who you?

You can call me Sir Doyle, and I am looking to speak with Sola Nicous. How can I get in touch with him?

You want Sola? K'ronk get Sola for you. With that, the orc steps back in through the hole in the wall.

------------------------------------------------------------

Description: When Sola sees Sir Doyle, he sees a well dressed grey elf, who is a bit tall for an elf. Sir Doyle is wearing a noble's outfit, a signet ring, a moonstone ring and matching necklace w/pendant; Sir Doyle stands quite proper and is well groomed. Upon closer inspection of the signet ring, Sola knows that he has never seen the symbol upon it.

After Sola shows up and basic introductions have been made....

The city of Gladius is vast. People come and go all the time. There is a constant struggle for power within the arena, but that struggle for power extends beyond the arena walls. The city is in rubble, and it has been for far too long. Perhaps if their was more unity, things would not be as bad after so long. Regardless of all this, I have come to ask - do you know who your enemies are? One might expect that THE WATCHFUL EYE would know who is after them, who is undermining their objectives and who is seeking their destruction, but there are some enemies who are more silent than others. Some enemies hide quite well in the shadows and only come out at night. You would do well to establish a more formal headquarters and begin rebuilding this dilapidated structure. I am sure that we could get along nicely, but something must be done about the state of affairs. I have a few things I need to look into, but I will return shortly and I may be interested in joining you and your fellow compatriots for the greater good.

Sola smiled at Doyle he liked the man's sense of purpose already. Sola smiled politely and replied. Well Sir Doyle, not everything is as it seems. We are doing our best to 'not' be found. The fact that you have arrived at our not so humble abode puts you either out of place or as a representative of someone else. As for my enemies they are time, and support. We are not the GSIS nor do we intend to build it as such. The matter of it being destroyed in the first place gives me reason that if we were to do it again we would be destroyed as they were. I do believe that we will need to be a little more careful in how we rebuild.

Sola measures the man's standing, Lortavos had woken up near the firepit and had wandered over. He sat patiently near Sola and Sir Doyle. The smell of Mrs. Toppenbottom's cooking was beginning to waft in from the kitchen, It smells like dinner is almost ready, you are welcome to join us for any meal. But I do believe this EYE that you are looking for is not quite what it appears to be.

Ba'al is 4th level!!!!!!!

Everyone play nice with Doyle, he is thinking about linking up, and become the first roguish build to join our little party, although he would say assassin.

"Doyle!" The voice of young girl echoes through the crumbling halls. There is something familiar about it, and Doyle assumes one of the street children has followed him somehow. He is a bit shocked when a tiny brass dragon sweeps around the corner. She stops mid room and hovers, kicking up dust and rocking herself back and forth with her tail. "Hey, you remember me? At the gith monestary (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=596627)? That place is so wierd, no? With the food that never makes you full, and the yellow skinned monks and the gray sky underneath the ground. Hey, did you follow me back here? Through that wierd gate with the light-runes?"

Well, hello there Saffron. It is good to see that you made it back safely. After we had our nice chat, I had some things to work out. And even though there is the gate that brought you back home, I did not come home the same way. One of the Gith had some business to attend to, here in Gladius, and so I was able to accompany him to Gladius. The gate had been mentioned, but I heard that it would have been quite a trek by foot and then the gate actually doesn't open directly to Gladius, but off in some mountains? I am just happy to be home. Doyle fishes around in his pocket for a moment, looking for something that he knows is there. After a few seconds, Doyle pulls his hand out of his pocket, and with a broad smile, he tosses a small piece of hard candy to Saffron. Enjoy!

Doyle is content to spend some time chatting with everyone. He answers many questions and is more than willing to tell the stories about the adventures he has had. The pirates-made-allies, the demon, the wizard, the battle with the Kraken, the dangerous mission at the mage tower and the vampire named Ogremack.

I greatly enjoy the company, but I want to let you know ahead of time, I will need to leave here before it gets too late, I have a prior obligation to attend to this evening.

Of the EYEs, Ba'al is probably the most violent, reactionary, and paranoid. When K'ronk came and fetched Sola to speak with Doyle the xephan hunter made himself nearly invisible in the shadows. He watched as the well-to-do elf discussed his emminant importance to the EYE. Ba'als initial reaction to the classy fellow? He could smell blood on the stranger's hands.

The rail thin xeph was a sliver of silver in the shadows as the two elves talked. He had gained some weight eating K'ronk's cooking. Mrs Toppenbottom was teaching him to use lots of butter and cream. Fattening meals are important for the warriors. You need to keep your strength up is what they say. Muscle has to grow from something.

After the aristicratic elf departed one shadow's man spoke to another.

There are two kinds of people in this world Sola... Ba'al looked amused Those who need a reason to kill, and those who need a reason not too. The xeph smirked at his brother, both of them knowing that these two shadows fell on opposite sides of that line. That man is a killer. I may not have the power to delve these things truely, but mark my words there are black marks on that man's soul. Ba'al let his silky black soulknife vanish silently.

He talks a good game, and he looks like he can hold his own. Haven't heard much of him out of the arena.. must have come up from the west...

I leveled I leveled Yip Yip Yahoo! FOr my guildmates - Ba'al just took another pwar level.. and is going cleric2 next -> (weapon finesse at 6th and) then -> Monk for a few levels... even considering pushing monk to the point of xp penalty.. the effect on my gp/xp ratio could alright... anyway...

We need a district map?
off the top of my head I imagine a big ole mostly uninhabited streatch of rubble that used to be a merchant district. Actually with the politics rating...

The Wester road comes in past the GSIS building and there are a few (once) high class residences - this is where the politics rating comes from. The remnants of the former noble cioty government (pre-capilist guild invasion) are mostly in residance here.

Basically I see lots of ruined/abandoned civil and commerce buildings. Lots of squatters in the ruins. A handful of rich and powerful nobles that are unwilling to move out of their homes. Other than that? The road to the inner city, and the GSIS building. No actual "markets" but plenty of "parks."

In a related note: Plot Hooks? for Quests/MiniQuests - what if there were GSIS outposts all over the city? Accessing the records of the old GSIS would serve the EYE's purposes.. reclaiming these outposts for the EYE would be good for the EYE and there could be all manner of wierd things taking up residence in these buildings.

Sola felt Ba'al's presence long before Doyle had departed and was well aware of the xeph's feelings behind his statement. I agree he is holding something back, yet each one of use have our own demons to fight. Some may be in constant struggle, others embrace them in part and gain quick reward at a cost. Others might still be fighting an uphill battle on a rockslide. He will recieve a visit if there is a need, I fear it is not in our hands to determine if he will find a place here.

Sola returned to his work in his room, allowing Ba'al to join him if he wished to continue the conversation.

@Book5: something I was thinking about that you could do w/ Ba'al that would prevent you from hitting the xp penalty

Take cleric at 5, monk from 6-8, and then take psionic fist. It will be very easy for you to get in. You have the wild talent feat from soulknife, the concentration ranks should be easy, and then monk 3 to get still mind class feature. If you take the classes in that order you will end up at skf 1/PW 2/clr2/mnk3 and have no xp penalty due to the favored class of xeph, you could even take an extra level of cleric before you go in if you wanted 2nd lvl spells (silence comes to mind)

@papapepperoni: If you see this, I am about to have Kendal depart from the ranks of the EYE if he does not begin to participate in the arena. This is not ment to be mean, but he hasn't been in the arena for 4 weeks. If he has not 'active'* by Apr 12, he will be evicted.

@All: I know Vath is MIA till his internet gets fixed, and I know that Reyos will be retiring when he returns from his campaign, which leaves us a little light. Doyle will actually be MQ this comming week to join before he goes on a small quest fest. Also please note your new tax rate that is show on the front page. Some went up and others went down.

*Active: questing, or participating in the arena at least twice a month.

Ba'al walked with his brother and they spoke of the others.

By the shadow, I fortell he will join us. He has too much honor for the Habari, and not enough for the expidetionary forces. He has what it takes to make it in the EYE.. and I think he will fit in alright as well. Except for Latravos and Saffron were all a little edgy around here. Well, your pretty easy going Sola. Thats why everyone looks to you to get things done. He seems to relax after a moment. Running a calloused hand through stringy black hair. The gladiator is a mess. Still wearing grass stains on his robes that hailed from the Living Tree, he also stank.

About Doyle though. He has vision. I can see that. Conviction is all well and good, but it takes vision to get somewhere. Or get something done, or whatever. Ba'al was obviously tired. The slight xeph was strong of will ... but his rigourus meditations and execises were a bit much for someone of his fortitude. With a big yawn he continued Do we have the kinda space that guy will want? Probably pitch a fit if he doesnt get feather pillows or something.

The two talked for a few hours. The converstion moved from Doyle, to the others, to their plans, and back again.

Hmm, yeah.. next level cleric making 1/2/2 knife/warrior/cleric
Then 3 levels of strait monk = 1/2/2/3 thats the plan so far...
but this Psionic Fist... hmmm. Im.. gonna have to look into what that would look like with
1/2/2/3/4 vs 1/2/2/7... wholeness of body was where I was going to take monk.. hmm. Yeah Im gonna have to permute that. :thinks:

Having made contact with his good friend Denshi, Doyle is preparing to head out adventuring again. He has packed up the bulk of his things from the Flaming Stables and he is now ready to stop by and visit the guys with EYEs. :)

Upon showing up at EYE HQ, he sits down on a nice rock and begins to write a letter for any who might no be nearby...

Dear Sirs,
Just last week I stopped by to visit with you for a while. I expressed my interest in joining your brotherhood, as I feel that we have many of the same thoughts towards the evil that exists all around us. After some time talking with The Emmisary, and some time of reflection and adventure, I was invited. I should have stopped by sooner, but I have been busy preparing for a small adventure. I am going to be out of town, well out of plane, and I am not sure how soon I will be returning. I am heading out on a diplomatic mission, and I expect it to go well. When I return, I would like to see about getting some plans together to better protect the citizens of Gladius and protect their interests.

As a final note, I am going to want to sit down and discuss some matters of career choice ... with all of you. There are some thoughts that I have and I wish to train some to join my ranks. Some may view this as questionable, but I wish to step outside of the box and persue an alternate path. More to follow upon my return.

Sir Doyle

Doyle hands the letter off to Mrs Toppenbottom and asks that she deliver it to Sola. Feeling good about the adventure that he is about to embark upon, he sets off with a smile...

Ba'al slips from the shadows and retrieves the note left by the noble assasine. He pockets it before he bothers to look at it, and makes his way to the construction site Timmy told him about.

Ok, I was all like reading and getting gonna make this post thing... and I have no idea where this new tavern is!

Is it off the armory? somewhere else?
is it the speak easy?
or the front?

I imagine the EYE working kinda like a mafia in that regard.

Ba'al didn't get very far before he found Sola. His shadow brother looked horrible, blood was streaming from multiple chest wounds, it was a wonder he was still walking. Ba'al rushed to him as he collapsed. Dragging him back to the headquarters, the entire building went into uproar. Mrs Toppenbottom was getting water and Ba'al was doing what he could with his limited healing abilities. Truth be told the only person who could truely help Sola was Sola himself.

The Emissary stepped from the shadows, his eyes knowing and sensing. He asked everyone but Ba'al to leave. Are you willing to make a sacrifice? Ba'al could only nod. Then set him on the ground. I am going to inact a ritual that has long been saved for only the most dire situations. Sit next to him.

Ba'al complied without question. The Emissary sat opposite Ba'al with Sola in the middle. For a while they pair sat in meditation and probing, Ba'al could feel Sola's mind and The Emissary guiding him and helping Sola pull through. For hours the three figures stood in the darkness, where only the mind could see what was there. Are you ready? This will hurt some.

Pure pain flowed into Ba'al mind, but it was not his own, it was Sola's. He tried hard not to cry out himself, but put his meditations into practice. He could feel the raw power that the Emissary was manifesting into the room, he need not open his eyes to sense the raw magic that was illuminating the room. And then in a moment it was gone.

Open your eyes Shadow hunter. Ba'al did as he was asked, and looked at Sola. Something had changed, his features had grown softer and elven in nature, but he was breathing. Ba'al looked up and found the the Emissary had departed. Something was different, he could strongly sense his brother's mind. Can you hear me Sola?

Yes I can, thank you. There was no more, as Sola recovered.

Sola has had a very bad encounter with Asran, and been changed for better or for worse.

The Pondering Wizard Tavern is in Mersia but is not attached to our base of operations. It is built more in a growing nobles area to encourage some of the nobles to come back.

04-27-06, 03:59 PM
The xeph stood and shook his head, he blinked his wide oval eyes. Echoes of Sola's thoughts sunk into Ba'al's peripherial consiousness. He blinked again. Now this is certainly going to come in handy a simple thought surfaces in Sola's mind. The emmissary had not explained, but both Sola and Ba'al knew ..somehow that this was the sign of the brotherhood of the shadows.

An irrevocable (on pain of death) spiritual connection that could only be shared by those who have lived though the passing of the shadow of death. An ancient ritual. One that any gladiator who has ever lost could participate in, but a ritual only revealed to the members of the EYE.

Should we .. invite .. the others? Trust and distrust were seathing through the link to Sola. The xeph wanted to trust and refused to trust the others with equal vigor. Intersting perhaps to an observer, the first name on Ba'al's suggestions - was K'ronk? We could initiate K'ronk.. can we invite K'ronk? What about Latravos and Saffron?

oooooh neat idea!

Although his body did not move, Ba'al heard a soft laugh which probably would have been accompanied by a smirk on Sola's face. It is not something that we can do. I think The Emissary did it, and he used much of his powers. But now I need to rest I must relearn much

Unsure of the totality of what had happened, Sola did the only thing he could while allowing his body to heal: Meditation. Searching deep through his being he found that through the ritual he had taken on a measure of Ba'al and that the shard of personality was affecting him.

Probably going to just be a thing between Ba'al and Sola.

If you haven't looked Sola got rewritten from a human rng1/clr5 to a phrenic wild elf clr5. This storyline is part of the RP reasoning for making the change.

04-27-06, 09:33 PM
Heh, creepy shadow.. imagery of Ba'al's idea of an initiation slinks through the shadows of Sola's mind. The xeph was barely able to tell the difference between human and elf, but he could feel the now phrenic energy that now emanated from his brother.

I think the shadow's link is doing you well Sola. sleep Ba'al left Sola to rest in the armory. From there he moved out into old Merisia. Cold Merisia.. the eastern most reach of the civilization of the city. Go Farther from the core and you run into pure wilds. Hilly country around Gladius. North past the living tree it becomes fertile, ripe for crops, but to the south of Merisia the earth had a little more shale.

Ba'al walked along what was intended to be a grand highway. The city had been in an expansion when the year if hell had come crashing down. Once wealthy landowners and prosperous merchants were neighbors in the haut and elegant Merisia district. Merisia was perhaps the newest expansion of gladius and had been built for the amazingly wealthy. Mansions sat vacant well back from the roadside, while the homeless scavangers took up residence in the meerest gatehouses.

To their credit - it was not unheard of that a monster or band of brigands would take up residence in one of the derlict palaces, and Ba'al was certain he had spotted a group of overly intentional men moving into the nearest manor. Ba'al considered investigating but Ba'al stop, thats dangerous, wait for the morning, wait for me No problem the slip of a xeph was not overly interested in assualting an outlaw's hideaway all by himself.

He was curious as to the tavern K'ronk had told him about. The "Pondering Wizard" was apparently an older establishment, the owners had apparently weathered the year of hell on stored beans and rice. It had served as a secret shelter durring the year of hell. The resteraunt had not been opened immeadietly, but with the EYE's help the (family) had recently reopened their doors.

ok tavern - how about half-orcs? "toughed it out" and we could portray them as really really classy high orcs - aristocratic half-orcs?

Kendal! Ba'al was waiting by the door when the human returned. Thank goodness your alright. Where have you been - training? Myself and Sola have been either here or over at the wizard. There was something wrong with the Nimbus and the Arena shut down and I think the pitlords took care of it. Or are taking care of it... I still havent heard anything serious back yet - but I am certain the emmissary will bring us word if something goes wrong. Someone told me that TAO and the EHTC took off .. but then I heard they had gone into the nimbus?? I am not certain the stories are all over the place. Ba'al is not the brightest cookie nor is he all that good in a conversation, but resolute and determined are positive traits regardless.

Wanna get a pint over at the wizard? Ba'al seemed concerned about something.

"Thanks for the offer Ba'al, but I don't drink. However, you don't seem to be feeling alright. I'd like to accompany you to the wizards so we can talk. I don't really know anyone in Gladius, so some company would be great." Kendal answered as he could finally sit down after all this time. "Something is wrong with me. Sometimes, I just blackout for a long time, and when I wake up, I'm lying somewhere outside Gladius. I've already lost some fights because of this. Someone to talk to would be nice."

An incongruous sight appears at the gathering area of the Old Armory. The half-giant Sunstroke has arrived, with a vicious, slashing wound across his chest and mottling in his face--it looks like the massive warrior has actually been crying. He is also still Expanded from his fight, standing over fifteen feet in height, so the effect is especially odd.

"Excuse me but... I was hoping to find someone I could talk to. Is Sola around?" he booms, apparently unaware of the strange spectacle he makes.

Sola steps out of his room. Half dressed and putting on an over shirt to greet the Giant that has entered the GSIS building. I am Sola, you seem familiar to me, but I do not remember from where. Either way, I can tend your wounds, while you explain why you are seeking me.

MWB: I had forgotten that Sola had undergone a major change so he is still comming into acceptance with that change. It is something that I am working out the RP side for right now.

With a brief not by way of aknowledgment to Kendal, Sunstroke addresses the cleric. "Thank you, Sola." Looking down at his wound, he suddenly realizes how large he is, and wills himself down to a more reasonable, though still impressive, size.

"I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that you don't remember me. I visited here only once before, at the Emissary's invitation. At the time, I was not ready to join you... and I must admit, I learned much from my sojourn at PSI. And not just power, either... it's hard to put words to what I've learned, especially today."

Looking squarely at Sola, who is busily tending the giant's injury, he rambles on. "You seem to have changed somewhat yourself since I was here last. I hope you haven't changed too much on the inside... I was hoping you could lend an ear to my troubles, and perhaps offer me some advice." He goes on at some length, explaining in perhaps too much detail about his moral and spiritual dilemmas.

Sola finishes tending the wound, some of the work is not done with magic but rather a blending of pisonic and magic. You seem to have much on your mind, It is very noisy. Your physical wounds will heal, but your other would needs more time to consider. Come and get some food.

Sola sat down and ate a bit more with Sunstroke. K'ronk wandered in and out, the half orc was still getting use to Sola's more elven form. The first couple of times K'ronk drew his axe and charged the elf only to stop mid run, and then Sola explain what had happened before letting him go.

You are troubled due to the conflict of interest with your former guild and the heavy laden concious that you might have helped them in their actions? Yet beyond that there is a deeper spiritual issue working out inside of you. Almost a need to follow something deeper than yourself or the teachings. You mind is noisy indeed; we will meditate together for a while, I do not think you are ready for everything at once, and each question yields two more. For now we will sift the important questions to the top and ask those first.

"Yes... meditate. I can do that." After their meal, the two spent the better part of an hour in silent contemplation, as the half-giant considered his plethora of dilemmas.

Finally, Sunstroke opened his eyes. "I think I have a place to start, Sola. As you said, I need something deeper than myself, something more than mere knowledge. A moral compass, in effect. I need to find something to help me as a guide... not a person, but something more." He smiles nervously. "Does that make sense? Does it sound doable?"

The elf does not move for a moment. His eyes remained closed while he responded. Close your eyes. Sometimes the answers you seek are within your own memories. My path is not an easy one to take but in a way I serve the darkness around me, not in the way that you might expect but as a scout for the light. Within shadows are mystery, answers that have no questions, and in the end it is all that remains when we pass.

Your path may belong to a different place within time, space, or even understanding. As it is I do not fully understand the darkness but it does serve as a guide. Search your memories and find that which your mind continues to drift to, ask it the same questions that you have asked me. You might find the question more interesting than the answer.

Forgive my circular logic. I would also like to state that this is RP and represents only a fragment of the person that I really am.

Space... time... understanding... mystery... these thoughts swirled in Sunstroke's mind as he continued contemplating his future.

What is it that others have that I do not? What grants them the ability to put fear and failure aside? Faith, for some... but those people have answers to all of life's questions; whether accurate or not, they have conviction. To me, that would be only a delusion, a self-deception that allows a person to do whatever they want and label it as Right.

That can never be my way, his thoughts progressed. What about those who have no faith? What protects them from a paralysis of doubt, if not conviction? Could I ever be like that again? In fact, how did I ever last this long?

The last thought hit him with a tangible force, and everything slid into place. Of course. "I think I understand, now," he said at last, opening his eyes. "It's hard to put into words, but I think I can do it now. I think... I think the only thing really defeating me was myself." Again the nervous smile, but with it, a glimmer of hope in his eyes.

Sola opened his eyes this time to look at Sunstroke. He saw Kendal off at about bowshot distance sitting down to begin a meditation time for himself. He turned his attention back to Sunstroke. I do not have every answer that you seek. You can ask me if you have made progress, yet I ask you to consider the following. Kendal has missed his arena apperances due to deep immersion in meditation. I will say that I do not have all the answers that I seek. I am still trying to figure out who I am compared to who I was. I have vague memories that appear like dimly reflected shadows on a wall. No color, no depth, no solid form.

Sola paused for a moment and seemed to lose himself. He shook his head and let out a slight sigh. That one can not keep himself out of trouble. Sola rose to his feet and had Sunstroke rise as well. The goal is not to take steps but to sift through the questions of personal meaning and find the truth. You are correct when you say that you are what is stopping you, but identifying that problem is the beginning of dealing with the removal of yourself. The question now becomes 'How do I defeat myself?'

Sola patted him on the shoulder, the warrior-monk was going to take some time to come out of his shell, but there was much to work through. Ba'al has gotten himself in prison again, I need to go get him out. I'll return

Ba'al had apparently gotten into a brawl with someone. The information was sketchy, but the story that had made it back to the EYE is that someone owed Ba'al cash. Had attempted to repay Ba'al this cash.. and Ba'al had gone ballistic for some reason. The Xeph had a stiff neck and he was loath to admit when he is wrong. Sola knew via his connection to Ba'al that the Xeph was much more sober now - and ready to get out of the clink!

I really need to stay away from that Wizard's Ale.. As stern and skeletal as ever Ba'al returns to the EYE via Sola's sure hand. He spends the rest of the evening desperatly attempting to get his affairs in order - somewhat neglected durring his return to the prison. He prepared himself for the coming day. The battles would be more fierce.. they would be more real. Not one but three, and not even death could stop the killing.

Ba'al left for the Arena, he knew nothing of what was about to happen to him. Not a clue.

I dislike DPing BUT! Seems oddly necessary.

The sandy skinned Xeph departed silently from the secret headquarters of the Ever Watchful Eye. Phrenic thoughts nipped at the shadows in his mind. As he walked - with long Xeph strides - he pondered his direction in life.. why was he here? What is it that he came all this way for? What could he have come to this strange city of shadows to accomplish...

He pondered as he slipped through the city. Passerbyers passed by and Ba'al the hunter was none the wiser to the ever deepening shadows around him. Deep shadows, not cast from the cut of the sun's rays through the city rooftops. The natural light of the city slowely faded away from the ordinarily astute warrior.. and when he finally looked up .. the half light of a sun turned moon made his tan skin as gray as stone.

Shadows flickered past him, voices turned leaves in his mind. He saw a vision - a man was walking through these shadows with him... Ba'al knew .. because he could hear the thoughts of this man nipping at his mind like Sola's did... How very odd He thought.. I believe I may miss my fight.

Sola had seemed less inclinded ti fight since his transformation. With few sparse memebers and the fact that the Emissary was out recruiting. Sola had taken the roll of leader reluctantly. With the realignment of the guild finances the EYE was the benifactor of enough funds to finish restoring the old GSIS building. More than that they were able to upgrade the Pondering Wizard tavern into a full townhall rather than the simple platform for discussion. The district had rallied behind the guild and had begun to put some civility into place.

A new presence had been sent forth by the The Shadow, and Sola could sense his presence to the east in the Yurynwood and then it moved west to the harbor. Now it was comming quickly to the GSIS building. Sola knew the Shadow had sent his avatar, and the time for battle had come.

So ... I'm thinking a political victory is in order. I don't see us being able to compete with the larger guilds, but we should be able to build, expand and work some diplomatic angles.

General Plans: forge alliances with TLT and CEF, and probably a non agression deal with TAO. After getting some cash flow I think we are going to go high on research, and negotiation points to improved our relations with other districts so we can expand. I'm thinking of not getting to large as we can do most of the negotiations with two or three districts. I am thinking we are going to be pretty defensive and look at building an army after the cash flow starts comming.

If anyone would like to do a guild quest for cash starting Aug 23 let me know, otherwise I'll have Shadowsong do it, maybe with another guild to improve our relations.

The hunter hailing from the far east walked through mist, perhaps smoke.. some thicker air that can hold a shadow up off the ground. As the curls of silver soot stirred in his nose he he could have sworn he could smell some familiar. Without a sound the feeling rushed, and Ba'al fell out of the thick air and back into the streets of Gladius.

The dire reality of the experience shook the man. As practical as he was, he was not learned in the ways of what he had gotten himself into. He knew that he could not remember things, but he didn't know for a fact that the power of god swimming through his mind was a power that effected you. A power that changed you. Sola had become.. more than an elf. Ba'al would likely follow suit, in some manner. He felt these things.. but did not understand them.

What he knew was the arena was in front of him and the battle awaited. Time had been lost, when he arrived at the door - he found he had been more than late - he had been presumed lost. Long gone "Master Ba'al.. we heard.. you died. For real or something. Oh, well certainly.. we have to reset your pairings, apologies. Right this way, oh this is too much you have to leave that and that here. Alright - no the left corridor now. Please thank you, good battle! ..Next?"

Ba'al has a stare that will get most to back down. The lack of concern, the obvious animal in his eyes - helped. A long day was before him. The man was thin, even for a xeph. Some said he had elf blood, but his blood was as orange as the next xeph.

Well, He spoke to his unwitting hand axe. You think you can hit strait this time? The psychic had this strange feeling the blade replied. He was of course a holy man, that had wandered the streets of the city yelling at the passersby. Totally lost in a mad delusion. Part of the Chaos of the shadow had torn him from himself in a serious way. No one came to harm, in fact no one would have taken the grungy stick of a desert nomad - despite his axes, in spite of his wooden bowl.. he threw coin back at those who tried to fill it.

Guided by the shadow, or perhaps a feral nose - he had hunted rats as if he were back in the desert. His mouth and body taking over when his voice grew tired of waiting for his mind to get back. Days, weeks... Sola had felt him lost in the shadow, but he had never been in danger, and the two were not that dependant on each other. Had Ba'al's presence in his mind called out for aid - had a bird arrived with a coin in his name. Certainly the brothers would have found the other, but Sola would only ever know today for what happened later.. the merest memory of Ba'al appearing clear and unfuddled that morning..

The Undertaker would stare death in the EYE, eh? Lets see.. if he saw "this" coming! The black blade of a bent mind coalesced in his bood stained palm.

I am thinking of adding another character - by my reading of the rules... if I alternate weeks between the two we can have the caps for both?? At the very least they will be no less (might have better luck keeping "two of four" characters active than "both of them" eh? )

Was gonna make 'em EHTC.. but :D

Yup; you could theoretically have eight or so characters that all added to the CAPs, if you rotated them properly. Not that we have room for all that.

No technical requirements, although I think if you make a chaotic evil barbarian he might be a little out of place here--and Rith probably shouldn't let such a character join.

Looks like Psi is out to get us next week.
Gaston is robbing the town hall.
Dronnar is robbing our HQ.

Saffron is the only ECL capable of stopping Gaston, so sign her up.
Sunstroke could try to stop Dronnar.

Even if we fail, Dronnar still has to overcome a MQ that is his ecl+1 before he can steal the gold, and Gaston has a MQ equal to his ECL.

Also, I see that our map is in ASCII. Would you like a shiny jpg map? I made TAO and EHTCs maps. I could find time next week to fix one up.

We used to have a shinny map.. did it's storage location get yoinked?
You know.. there is a way to "attach" files to posts... rather than image hosting them on like photobucket or something.

Sola came out of his offices as the horse rode up. The Avatar stood dismounted. He turned to Sola You are the Prophet?

Sola nodded and replied I am, you may call me Sola, and you are the Avatar Shadowsong if I am not mistaken. The cowl simply nodded. I have not fully adjusted to this plane, so it will take time.

Sola nodded and sighed, his hopes of seeing a peaceful resolution had failed.

Ok this is mostly for Book and Papapepperoni. Give me an idea for the two of you to do something. If you guys want to quest, that is very cool as you can do it credit free so long as you know that it has to be EYE business. I would hate to have to remove you guys from the roster. I know we are tight on CAP's as well, so the sooner you come up with an idea the sooner I can send you. I have a feeling Saffron and Sunstroke are going to be called to intercept duty as I'm trying to level Shadow. We will be needing some low level characters to intercept stuff here soon as we build some new structures

@Vath: if you want to make a spiffy map that would be awesome, I just did the Ascii map so that we would have something to use for guild map raids. If you want to just email me the program I could find some time to do it as well.

The reason that Kendal isn't active is simply because he is in the prison. I have fixed all problems TelinArtho listed I could see, 6! days before the roll call, and PM'ed both Telin and Prisonlords, to no avail. When I came back from vacation, I was suddenly inside the prison for no apparent reason. I then asked in the tavern why that was happening and Telin said that my sheet was wrong even two days before I posted the question after my return. So I asked Telin to fix and list what was still remaining more than a week ago (maybe even 2 weeks), but I haven't seen the slightest bit of activity. I'm thinking of quitting here if he doesn't fix it, because I've asked nicely and if nobody seems to adhere my simple request, I might as well look for another place for my online D&D'ing.

IF I get out of prison, I would gladly perform quests for the EYE, mainly because Kendal isn't an arena fighter as is probably evident looking at my win/loss ratio. We'll see.

The tattoo pricing problem is still there--tattoos with a range of Personal cost 100 gp * ML * PL, so they're all still underpaid. Everything else looks fine (although you should delete the guild tax line). Fix that and PM it to Telin and Prisonlords, and you should be gold for the 30th. But do it now, so it makes it into tomorrow's roll call.

My bad. I probably fixed in one of the many periods that would be deleted. I was just irritated by the fact that no one could tell me what was still wrong. All solved now. I'm happy :D.

Sunstroke plods dejectedly back into the guildhall. "What a farce! Although I got lucky with a mount that liked me, that contest was surely more to test one's nimbleness than anything else. Even that 'long jumping' contest--why, the area was coated with loose gravel! It was quite humiliating."

He sighs. "And that Dronnar... he just won't let up. Why must he pursue me so? My choice to leave PSI had nothing to do with him, nothing personal at all. Why can he not let me go my own way?"

Silently, Marcus enters the EYE headquarters for the first time. "So, this is the fabled EYE. I have heard alot about this place. All the letters he sent.. Ah well. Now that I'm with here, I might as well state my purpose. As you all probably know, my nephew Kendal Aphos has recently been murdered. No one knows by whom, and I want my revenge on the bastard who did this to him.
But all the bad feelings aside, I am pleased to be in the guild, and I hope I'll be accepted as good as Kendal was."

Toron (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=9824636) stalks quietly through the doorway of the EYE, looking about him in interest. His master at the monestary had sent him here for "testing", and Toron was wary. The master's tests were foten difficult and always deadly. Someone starts to enter the hall, Toron looks about for a hiding place. Finding none close enough to get behind before being spotted, he drops into a fighting crouch and begins to move quietly forward, hoping to take the person venturing down the hall by suprise should they prove to be an enemy.
