There is such a thing as too much faith and dedication.

Kyst is such a case.

Kyst was born frail by his mother on the Material Plane and barely survived, expert healing and extreme loved allowed him life and he did not take the gift lightly. Raised in a monestary he was determined not to let the deity’s gift and skill and love of his mother and the clerics go to waste.

He trained hard everyday. A slow learner but extremely dedicated to the task of Oneness. He went through a number of dangerous training rituals every day, focusing on his faith, natural flexibility and speed, and finally focusing on his hardiness. Kyst quickly became anything but frail. Letting trivial things such as daily showers, book learning, and studying pass him by, instead he took what his instructors taught him by word of mouth and followed every instruction to the letter.

Though warned by his mentors that such devotion to only one aspect of Oneness would leave him horribly open to the world of life. This was the one thing that Kyst ignored his instructors on. Basically it was too complicated to think of such things. He knew only two truths. The body and mind must be one and at peak performance. Anything less than perfect would simply not do, and that one must see trouble from a far distance in order to prepare for it. This is mainly due to his limited and slow ability to sort through pre prepared and memorized tactics.

Kyst was and is and very simple person. If he was not fighting he was training, if he was not training he was meditating. When he felt weak he would eat. He passed up everything else. On the day of his Ascension into adulthood and the end of his monastic training his instructors gave him a powerful parting gift. In hopes of Kyst seeing the folly of his ways and that he would come back and retrain at the Monastery they sent him to the closest city on the Material Plane. Gladius.

Unfortunately for the Instructors they erred. Sending him to the city of Gladius only seemed to increase his resolve. Quickly he was entered into the constant fights as they were the only thing that ever made sense to him. If he was not at the Arena, he was at his home, if he was not at his home he was at the fletchers buying more bolts for his trusted crossbow.

He has not been known to speak since he entered Gladius aside from a few exceptions. The few exceptions centered on his name. After the while it would take him to understand what you wanted from him he would speak his name. But other than that his face is a emotionless mask. This is partly because too many thoughts about emotions confuse him and also because feels complete control over his emotions is part of being One. In battle though his face always has a slight smile, as if for this little bit, these simplistic brutal moments seem to make sense for him. He is slow to react to pain, and pain will make his eyes tear up and water however this doesn’t change his expression or stop him from his normal movement.

He fights at the Gladius to prove to himself and his instructors that his Oneness or version of it is not a wasted lifetime.

Kyst speaks with the guildmaster for the first time having been summoned to his presence by a small blue Kobold. The guildmaster is old and withered. His hands are thin and frail, his hair is white, his skin thin and paper like, but his eyes glow with inner power.

Kyst, I have a task for you. This is Tito. He is our most trusted messenger and informant. Guard him today as he travels to Dragor Mounds and visit's the halls of TLT. He will bear a message from me to their guildmaster. The district of Gauterix lies between, and it is an unfriendly place where PSI is not appreciated. Keep your senses sharp for I suspect that Tito's safety may be threatened. Also Tito travels by sewers, alleys and back ways. Do not let him leave your sight, but follow him by the path he chooses.

Assuming he speaks githzerai, so I can understand him, otherwise there is no point to dialouge :D

Kyst nods and inclines his body forward in a 45 degree angle, at the same moment pounding his fist to his chest.

"As my master wishes it, so it shall be. This being's essence shall be link to mine, and only fail should mine fail first." He speaks solomly in Gith.

Pausing, in case of further instructions, he then turns and nods to the Kobold, following it as it moves.

He makes a point of loading his crossbow and keeping it ready in his hands.

************

Planned Tactics:

I can't remember if Small creatures can share the square with a Medium creature. If they can I intend to be almost on top of him, to provide him with soft cover.

Otherwise I intend to provide him with soft cover by rotating around him while we are moving, interposing myself between him, and the likely places for ambush, or the biggest groups of people, or the most suspicious groups of people.

Combat wise, I intend to get the first shot off with the crossbow, in the unlikely event I have time, I'll reload and then fire again, but more than likely I will need to close with the attacker. Then my tactics will depend on the situation. Whether to risk attacking, flurry, or grapple.

Just a heads up for future circumstances.

Tito seams none too pleased that this conspicious looking monk is circling him, but since Kyst cannot understand a word that he says, there is little for Tito to do about it. He stomps up and down and gesticulates wildly occasionally yelling something indecipherable as he roams into back alleys.

At one point Tito decides to enter a sewer and climbs into a storm drain. The underground passage is barely 5' tall but Tito is comfortable in here. He strides quickly, with you moving ahead. Suddenly a smell assaults your senses. The scent of rotting flesh dominates in the tunnel ahead. You hear a slick sound and something moves in the the shadow ahead, you spot a strange creature.

Your hones reflexes allow you to move first.

The creature is 30' ahead and the terrain is a tunnel 5 feet wide.

Do I roll the rolls or do you? such as attacks and damage and such. I'm fine either way.

Kyst notes the presence and makes a sharp sound to get the Kobold's attention, using his move action he motions behind him. Then taking careful aim, a look off utter concentration on his face, as he is stooped because of the tunnels hieght. He fires his Light Crossbow right in the creature's face, but just before he does so his head scrapes against the ceiling dislodging muck to fall in his face at the exact moment he fires.

Getting ready to move back as he does not want to get into a grapple with the creature as he guesses with the tenticles it is the creature's main form of attack.

************
For intrest of speed I'll roll, but feel free to completely ignore my rolls if you would rather roll, even if it is worse I won't complain.

..Why does this picture seem horribly familiar? I don't remember what that creature is, but I have a bad feeling about grappling....lol

Ranged Attack roll, Light Crossbow, 1d20+5=8 (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=669#25536)
Possible Damage with Light Crossbow 1d8=8 (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=669#25537)

Grrr, too bad I didn't hit. lol, Also did 3.5 pull the rule over from 3.0 that all characters are flat footed inthe first round of combat? With my roll I still wouldn't hit, but I am curious.

Edit: Corrected text, saying Light Crossbow instead of Heavy Crossbow.

The monster charges at Kyst and lashes out with its tentacles but he deftly dodges the attack.

Tito pipes up with a helpfull comment, "I've seen one of these before... Their hide is rubbery and resists damage except by magical weapons. Use this..." Tito hands a small vial to Kyst. It is blue crystal with a glass stoper and some liquid inside. It is a sort of oil that is spashed on a weapon...

You'll need this item to win the encounter. It's a cheap item, and I'll deduct it's cost from your winnings on the end of the quest. Use it wisely (it can be used on your unarmed strike or your other weapons). Without it you cannot do enough damage to harm the creature at all with any of your attacks...
Highfire

Hard choice, I can get more attacks in with unarmed, but better option to hit with light crossbow. I'll choose crossbow, as I will actually be able to hit it.

Kyst grabs the oil from the little creature and using a move action he reloads his Light Crossbow, and then dextrously breaks open the container and coats the crossbow, itself with the oil. As it will bestow the magic to it's ammunition.

He nods his thanks tot he small creature.

************

I plan to fire next round, and take a move action to reload, I will stand still, relying on my high AC, even though my hands are full, I can still attack on a AoO if it tries to attack since I'm a monk.

Rinse and repeat. I guess that's really my only hope.

Rolls located here (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=669)

Kyst backs up a step and loads his crossbow and splashes the oil on the weapon as he tries to dodge the creatures attacks.

The monster presses its advantage and attacks lashing out with all 4 tentacles. But Kyst deftly dodges all the attacks.

He then steps back again and carefully aims his crossbow. The bolt flies forward and litterally dissapears into the space where the tentacles meet and flies out the other side of its body. The creature instantly falls limp and flops to the floor... icor oozes out both sides of its "head".

Tito reacts with a shout of glee, Ho! Nice shot!

A short way down the tunnel, you find the source of the stench. It is a dead pesant's body rotting. It has apparently been chewed by the creature back in the tunnel.

The tunnel continues for severeal miles and comes out in a creek south and west of Gladius. A few miles west you find the halls of TLT nestled among the Dragor Mounds. Tito delivers his message, a black envelope with a green metalic foil symbol of PSI and of Master Raskos.

Kyst remains stone faced, resembling a statue more than a person as Tito goes about his business, always sticking close to the messenger.
