| MitzaVolchenko01-26-06, 10:37 PM | As the members of WAR converse about how to best serve their guild and the city of Gladius, a young boy that everyone thinks vaguely may be named Wurt or West or some such pops his head through the door. "There's some armored wench over ta tha Sign of the Sacred Stein talkin' 'bout how WAR ain't nothin but a jumped up crew o'thievin mercs!" Everyone has seen the boy watching the members train with hero worship in his eyes, and he seems genuinely angry and upset that anyone would besmirch his heroes. The guildmaster turns to Logan and says, "You wanted to join us? Well here is your test. Go defend our name." |
| Snommelp01-27-06, 10:40 AM | "I ain't the best with words, boss, but I'll see what I can do. Lead on, boy!" Logan takes up his weapons and follows the boy to the tavern. |
| MitzaVolchenko01-27-06, 02:32 PM | The guildmaster smiles a little at Logan's back and murmurs to himself, "That's the point." The boy leads you to a small but clean and prosperous looking establishment. Once there he ducks inside and quick as a cat slips up a shelf and into the rafters to watch. Holding forth in great detail about the vagaries of mercs in general and WAR in particular is a young woman in fine full plate with a holy symbol you do not recognize on her chest. She has a large audience of avid listeners surrounding her at her table where the wine is flowing freely and a buffet of food is laid out. |
| Snommelp01-27-06, 02:37 PM | Logan clumps up to her rather loudly in his armor and stops a respectful distance away. "'Scuse me, miss, but I think you're mistaken. There ain't no mercs in the Warfare Alliance. We're all just gladiators tryin' to make a livin' in the arena. Fact is there's lots o' good people there. So could ya please stop talking bad 'bout us? It ain't nice." |
| MitzaVolchenko01-27-06, 02:47 PM | Several of the people around her step back as she blinks at the interruption. "I see you have come to prove my point about WAR. Though you apparently do not understand that fighting for reward money makes you a merc. All of you filthy honorless *****sons are a step beneath thieves. At least a thief is honest with himself that he is a thief," she doesn't stand or even move a hand toward the greatsword at her back. The crowd takes another step back and stares at you. |
| Snommelp01-27-06, 03:02 PM | Logan blinks, thinks for a bit, then replies. "Now I know I ain't smart, ma'am, but I know I ain't no thief either. Thieves take money that don't belong to them from other people what don't know about it. I don't do that, so I ain't no thief, and I don't know nobody in the Warfare Alliance who does that either." "And what about you? What've you done that makes you so high 'n mighty? You, ma'am, are a gossip, nothin' more. And a vulgar gossip at that. I'm askin' you nicely, please stop bein' mean to me and my friends." |
| MitzaVolchenko01-28-06, 01:58 AM | "Tell me, what village do you hail from? They surely should be informed as to the whereabouts of their idiot," the woman takes a sip of her wine and gestures with the glass toward the boy in the rafters."You sound like that guttersnipe up there...singing the praises of mercenaries. You also miss my point. I have more respect for thieves than I do for mercenaries. A thief steals money and is honest that he takes what does not belong to him. You steal lives and delude yourselves with the notion that it is not your repsonsibility to decide who you are hired to kill. Even assassins know more about their target and their reason for dying than your form of filth. Furthermore, whelp, it is not I that interrupted your meal. You are a mannerless dog, and I am quite certain that Fadje does not allow dogs in his establishment." The woman gestures and a few of her companions step back to the table resuming their seats and picking up their glasses. |
| Snommelp01-28-06, 07:49 AM | Frustrated and flustered, Logan suddenly remembers something he saw a knight do once, and figuring knights to be honorable, he thinks maybe this woman will understand and appreciate what he is doing. Logan pulls one of his gloves off and slaps her across the face. "That's a duel challenge, that is, ma'am. You've made fun o' me and my friends long enough. You think I'm an idiot, a liar, and a dog, so prove it. Or are you gonna try to back out, usin' your fancy words to make it look like you ain't a coward?" With that, Logan steps back again, a decent distance to show he will not attack until she is ready, and unsheathes the two blades of his sword. |
| MitzaVolchenko01-29-06, 02:45 PM | "You gain show your lack of breeding and manners. I accept your duel, though I do not believe for an instant you have any honor, but we will not fight in Fadje's place. One does ot conduct matters of honor where one might hurt a bystander," the woman says acidly rising and collecting her cloak and weapons and walking past you and out the door. She leads you around to a small courtyard that obviously doubles as staging area and practice ground. A slim girl appears from the stable and helps to adjust her armor and ties a headband around her mistress' forehead to prevent sweat from getting into her eyes. The woman turns to you in a balanced ready stance, {color=blue]"I, Hrassa of Goilden, accept the challenge of the worm that stands before me to prove the rightness of my words. I call on the Goddess to witness and let all who see this bear the tale."[/color] We can either move to tactics and I will run it myself. Or we can roll vs. roll round by round. You are faced with a 1 Paladin/1Cleric in full plate. She has no obvious expendables and is armed with a greatsword and has a shortsword and dagger at her belt. The area you have to work with is a circle about 25' in diameter. The flooring is packed clay with sand and sawdust over it to provide traction. She Hrassa has taken up a position 5' back from the center leaving your obvious starting position to be 5' back opposite her. |
| Snommelp01-29-06, 11:02 PM | It's starting to get later in the week; Logan's tactics won't be that hard. If he wins initiative, he'll go full defense and let her have the first blow. After that, he'll full attack when he can, leading with the cold iron blade. If and when she casts a spell, these tactics may change (but probably not). Logan quickly and briefly stretches his muscles. "I'm ready when you are, ma'am." |
| MitzaVolchenko01-30-06, 12:50 AM | Hrassa Init (1d20=4 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=350201)) Logan Init (1d20+3=19 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=350203)) Round 1 Logan uses full defense. Hrassa attacks (1d20+4=24 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=350205)!+1 mistype) does not confirm critical (1d20+4=14 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=350206)+1mistype) and does (2d6+3=12 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=350207)) points of damage. Hrassa 17/17 HP AC 18 Logan 21/33 HP AC20 Round 2 Logan full attacks (1d20+5=10 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=350208)), (1d20+5=15 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=350209)) missing with both. Hrassa attacks (1d20+5=25 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=350214)) does not confirm critical (1d20+5=11 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=350215)) dealing (2d6+3=8 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=350216)) points of damage. Hrassa 17/17 HP AC 18 Logan 13/33 HP AC20 Invisible Castle is refusing to work, so I am going to finish this with my own dice on the table in front of me. Round 3 Logan full attacks (20!+5=25) confirms critical (15+5), (12+5) misses. Does (8+6+8=20) knocking Hrassa to dying. If you object to me finishing with my own dice (which would be crazy as they like you better than the online roller did) drop me a PM, and I'll re-roll them when Invis Castle decides to respond. Due to your desire to change alignments, I feel that you need to finish out the RP here. One of her friends steps forward glaring at you and pours a potion down Hrassa's throat. "That girl has more guts and more reason than you know to feel as she does!" the man continues glaring as Hrassa slowly revives. |
| Snommelp01-30-06, 09:32 AM | Logan ignores the man as he checks on Hrassa, wanting to be certain she is all right. When he sees that the man's potion is taking effect, he speaks. "Well, sir, the way I see it she coulda handled it a lot better than sittin' around in a tavern tellin' tales an' not doing nothin'. But if you don't mind, I'd rather talk to her 'bout it than some lackey who spends his day sittin' in that same tavern list'nen to those tales an' gossips." This seems to be a clear dismissal, as Logan turns his back on the man to help Hrassa to her feet. Damage doesn't seem to match up in round 1, but that's okay. As for finishing with your own dice, I could hardly complain when I use my dice myself, now could I? Besides, I won! |
| MitzaVolchenko01-30-06, 09:53 PM | Hrassa refuses the hand up and rises on her own shooting a look of thanks at her friend. "All you've proved today is that I am not yet well enough trained to put you where you belong. However, until our next meeting, you have won the right of my silence no matter how unjust I believe it to be," Hrassa's tone is steady and does a fair job of hiding the anger and pain she feels. "What you call tales and gossip are nothing but truth. Someday perhaps your delusions will leave you and the truth will ring in your heart." |
| Snommelp01-30-06, 10:26 PM | Logan sighs. "No, ma'am, all I really proved was that ya gotta be careful 'bout who ya agree to fight. I was kinda hopin' that the fight would let off some steam so that we could talk like civilized folk, but I guess I was wrong. If ya don't wanna talk no more, then I guess I'll be headin' home. Best o' luck to ya, ma'am. Maybe some day I'll know the truth, and maybe some day you'll realize that you can't lay a blanket over a whole group o' people and call it truth. Most o' my pa's sheep were white, but he had a few black ones. Jus' cause they were black didn't make 'em less sheep, an' there certainly weren't no reason to believe that the white ones were black sheep pretendin' to be somethin' else. Good day, ma'am. I hope nex' time we meet it'll be a happier time." Logan gives her a very awkward bow, then turns to leave. |
| MitzaVolchenko01-30-06, 10:40 PM | "Sheep are not the same as people who choose their paths and their affiliations. The world is not the place you would have it be no matter that you don't see it. Look a little closer at some of those you call guildmate and friend," her words are soft but carry well. If he looks back he will see her calling for her horse and bidding farewell to her friends. |
| Snommelp01-30-06, 11:02 PM | Logan hears her words, and is tempted to turn back and give her a good scream. Instead, he collects himself, and says in hardly more than a whisper, "No, the world isn't the wonderful place I want it to be. But I have to have hope that things can be better, or I may as well lay down and die right now, and let the evil of the world go unchallenged. I have to have hope, or else there is no purpose in fighting for Goodness. I pray that some day you come to realize this as well." Not caring about whether or not the woman heard, Logan walks off and returns to the guildhall of the Warfare Alliance. And on that uncharacteristically deep note, could you describe her holy symbol to me? Logan is going to become interested in her god in the near future. Not enough to multiclass (that would be a disaster with his stats), but enough to maybe do some divinely related quests. |
