Yeah not much of a plan I suppose... Corbin had always been a bit of a wanderer. No one ever quite knew where he was for more than an hour or two. Corbin never liked the complexity of society much, so he would hunt a bit with his bow and take in the sights, no one knew the old woods like Corbin did. He would have liked nothing more to remain out in the middle of the woods for the rest of his days, but fate had another idea. One day when Corbin was about 95, he saw a man stumbling through the forest. On closer inspection he saw the man was bleeding out his side profusely. Corbin wanted to help so he moved closer to help the man up as he had tripped over a nearby log. The man cloaked in black was startled and drew his dagger in defense, but when he saw a child before him, lowered it quickly. Corbin did all he could to bandage the gentleman; he was after all a cleric in training. Corbin then asked him what happened. The cloaked figure introduced himself as Ason, and explained he was on the run from a troupe of elite guards, because he had attempted to assonate a tyrannical lord residing his home town. Corbin recognized Ason’s obvious skill, but wondered how he was caught. Ason explained that he had to travel back to his home town quickly to intersect the lord’s travel course. But, apparently word of his existence had reached the king and counter-assassins had been sent out for him. Ason chuckled, spat up some blood, and recounted he might have had a chance if he had only taken his time and traveled only by night, as he usually did. Suddenly, Ason grew quiet and sternly instructed Corbin to hide under the log they were resting against. He arose to his feet the best he could stumbled away. “Come out you cowards!” He shouted into the forest. Three well dressed Guards appeared the stated that he and his young accomplice were to be tried in court for treason against their lord. Ason, spat on them and attacked the guards and defeating them all easily enough, but the battle had caused too much strain on his injures and bleed to death only minutes later. Ason’s last words were as he looked over to Corbin were; “What’s right might not always be right, and what’s wrong *cough* isn’t always wrong, I lived a god life and done only what I thought right, maybe next time I’ll take it slow and travel by night…” Corbin buried Ason and borrowed his dagger as a reminder, of his sacrifice. Now Corbin fights in the arena to become strong enough to complete Ason’s quest. Corbin discovered that the Lords name was Astrioth and he had died a few years ago, but his son is now charged with his fathers lands. This would be all well and good if the Astrioths son weren’t the spitting image of his father physically and mentally. Currently Corbin is fighting in the arena to gain experience enough to remove Astrioths insane son from power. It seems a string of robberies has been pinpointed to the marketplace and a merchant by the name of Galag the Hungry is concerned about the possibility of losing his wares to a thief. Captain Mellios has instructed me to protect his resources, investigate the source of the robberies and if possible, bring the thief to justice. Figured I'd try a different take on the storytelling here. I figure the introduction between weeks will be a journal entry. | renlim02-09-07, 02:33 AM | "Alright!" I shouted as I mounted up, to head out to the market. The instructions were quite adequate, but the area was still somewhat new to me. It took some time to make my way around the countless shops and people, but I soon got the hang of it. As I passed through the city of Gawane I felt as I figured I would. Somewhat put-off by the uneasy residents, it was to be expected though, much troubles have these people have seen. Although it was pleasant to see at least some of the peace restored to the area; I noticed a group of children playing with a ball aside one of the near by a merchant's shops. Actually it turned out that it was Galag the Hungry's shop in particular. Figured I'd try a different take on the storytelling here. I figure the introduction between weeks will be a journal entry. That sounds great do you want to set up a time that is got to do all the rp and battle at the same time, or I can just make sure to watch it and post wen i see something happening? | TelinArtho02-09-07, 10:02 AM | Just as I approached the shop however, turmoil erupted. Galag burst out of his shop door, yelling THIEF! THIEF! Stop him! and pointing down the road. I hadn't seen anyone leave his shop - but just where he pointed - I could see someone running away, a bag in hand. I assume you are riding your horse. The fleeing thief is 40ft from the front door of the shop and you are 30ft beyond that at the moment initiative is rolled. Although there are people in the street - they are not in the way. Corbin acts first on initiative - so go ahead. As to arranging a time - I am mostly inactive on the weekends, but I'll see what I can do. I would suggest just posting whenever you see that I've posted. If we get behind, I can time things a little more briskly on the tail end. Good luck! |

As I called out for him/it to stop - it did not even turn around, but reached into the bag in hand - threw a ball to the ground in my path. Before my eyes, the ball of fur turned into a rat! The vile creature took a bite at my steed before it was out of reach again. Then - without notice - the thing disappeared before my eyes - only to reappear 40ft further down the street. The rat is in your square, but you can move away from it without issue since it is small enough. Your opponent is 50ft away at this point. |

| TelinArtho02-13-07, 02:59 PM | [60ft would put you 10ft in front of him - I will assume that is still fine with you] My arrow slung from the bow true and slammed into the side of the thief. Although it made no sound from the hit - it clearly was hurt badly from it. In front of it now, I could tell it was certainly no man or humanoid I had ever heard of. It grabbed something from its belt as it retreated from me - a bag of some sort - and threw it at Adanac. The bag was coming so fast that I had no chance to steer Adanac out of its path. On impact - it exploded into a thick goo. Only by sheer luck was Adanac not stuck to the ground - but the stuff just hardened up and Adanac could not maneuver as well because of it. Just as I was about to draw another arrow from my quiver - the dastardly creature disappeared again! Your arrow hits for 10 damage (forgot about PBS in the roller). The creature backed away from you to again be at 50ft, drawing a tanglefoot bag. It then threw it and disappeared. |
| renlim02-13-07, 03:29 PM | I momentarily lost sight of the creature but I wasn't about to let the strange creature get away. I rode forward toward the last place I saw him 50ft. and knocked my bow so I could let it fly as soon as I saw him. Readied an action to shoot on sight the thief. |
| TelinArtho02-13-07, 03:43 PM | [Since Adanac is entangled by the tanglefoot bag - you can only move 30ft and still ready] The thief did not take long to show himself once more and I let my arrow fly at him. The arrow bit flesh, but it did not deter the creature from throwing a vial at me. The vial cracked against my armor and immediately burst aflame! Some of it splashed on to Adanac as well. I let loose a pair of arrows into it, just as it started to disappear once more and it fell to the ground, limp. It wasn't long before Galag was upon me, thanking me for my efforts. You arrived just in time, he said to me. What manner of beast this is, I certainly do not know - but I'm happy to know his thieving days are over, that is for sure. Come with me - let's discuss how we can help the Celestial Forces in this district. Galag's smile was genuine and heartfelt. Clearly, taking down this theif will be a sound effort in gaining the peoples' confidence. Congratulations. A pretty weak EL4 creature given the circumstances, but still - a solid win. Stay tuned for next week's installment... You did take damage from the alchemist's fire - but since this is a guild mission, you and Adanac are healed between fights - so you don't need to worry about it. |

Placing the stolen bag he had retrieved from the thief onto a shelf near the door he took his place behind the counter. You see, the mercantile district within Gawane has always had a problem with thieves. I would not be surprised that the loss of one perpetuates the activity of another in some sort of vicious cycle. For my part - if the Celestial Forces was truly interested in fostering good will for the community, reducing the number of thievery attempts would certainly go a long way. Unfortunately, with the diverse nature and size of Gladius, we cannot even put a limit on what you might encounter in these streets. A maid servant from the back of Galag's shop brought forth a plate covered with fruits and some water. Galag offered them to me and started devouring them before I had a chance to answer. |

Perhaps you should seek out Faris - she has a closer ear to the underground and might have a perspective that could be useful. Galag brought forth a piece of parchment and upon it he scribed words of authentication - apparently this Faris requires approval before seeing her. He told me to take it to the black-painted building labelled as an apothecary and show it to the man behind the desk there. He sealed the letter with wax before handing it to me. |

Recognizing the seal, he told me to wait a moment and disappeared through a curtain at the back of the store. Before any time had passed, I heard a whisper from somewhere behind me. Don't look now - I'm watching you. No matter where I looked though, I could not see the source of the voice. First off, I thought I had mentioned that Adanac was tied up outside - as one might expect. Since I didn't mention that, I am going to have him make some attacks - that's my fault as I thought I had mentioned it. 2. Your encounters are rolled straight off of the EL3 encounter table in the roller. Your first week was a relatively weak encounter for your level. Your second week was a tough encounter - but the obscuring mist was a very viable tactic from the beginning. I warned you ahead of time on the price of the object you picked up both as a deterrant and to bring the fact that it was a store you were effectively robbing. Edit - looking back, apparently I did screw up your second encounter - which was on the EL4 encounter. Given that - I again must apologize. Looking back, I see what you would have fought and I will refund the item you "stole" as compensation for it. Your third encounter falls into the "gray" area of the EL table - because technically 2 CR2 creatures can be either a EL3 or an EL4 encounter. The tables are being modified to remove this inconsistency, but at the time it was rolled, it was a valid EL3 encounter. I'll figure out the rewards that you get in the morning when I have more time to post - which will be tomorrow morning. |
