TM, since you're also Gwar, I figure you can post whatever you like as far as a flamboyant and public announcement of Hood's mission. What follows is a little intro that helps set the stage for this evening's deeds. I'll be assuming that everything happens in one night (unless someone intercepts Hood). If you have any additional prebuffs that you want to use, let me know now and I can put them in.

Msr. Hood checks his gear once more before striding through the old and ruined gate between Central Gladius and Gawane. A wind blows in from the western sea and brings low clouds that are now lit by the yellow red light of the descending sun. Everywhere the darkening hues of the setting sun reveals a district marked by war after war. There are abandoned partly burned buildings that now cast long shadows with oddly angled edges. Many of these older buildings clearly provided the stone that make up newer and more recenlty destroyed homes and shops. There are no people on the street.

The troops of the Gladius Council do not patrol here.

The Freedom Fighters are disbanded.

The Celestial Forces have no regiments to maintain peace.

At night Anarchy reigns.

So Msr. Hood comes to bring a measure of hope to those who yet survive and eternal sleep to those who would bring fear into the night.

Hood walks for only 30 minutes before he hears this evening's looting begin. They are easy to spot. Four large brutes are breating on the door of a boarded up home. There are cries and shouts comming from within.

Well, Hood would not worry about his own skin in a situation like this. If those beasts get inside the dwelling, carnage would ensue!

Hood mutters under his breath in amazement, "Mon Dieu! Ze personnes cruelle savage come large here!" He ducks into the deeper shadow of the hedge without thinking.

This is the first time he has seen any humanoid of such size, and the brute toughness evident in their frames is disconcerting, to say the least.

"I peety zem, Bob. We shall give zem ze chance to surrender, no?"

Hood cocks his head in the psicrystal's direction as if listening, and nods his head in agreement.

"You speek ze truth, Bob! To be le champion héros eez good, but to be le champion martyr eez not, oui? A leetle préparation eez in order!"

Hood draws an arrow and a powerstone, and a dripping corona of energy settles on the broadhead. Hood concentrates, and the hiss of the acid fades to barely a whisper.

He replaces the stone and sets the arrow to the string, and then draws the fletching against his cheek.

"OI, OI! What goes on here! Stop in ze name of ze Warfare Alliance!"

I gather than they are too engrossed in their assault to notice Hood in the distant twilight. Draw/manifest Dissolving Weapon on an arrow from a powerstone.

R1: Hood will 5' step away from low hedge (chivalrously revealing his location) stow his powerstone, and ready an action to fire on TAN large guy (the one that could run to base me) if he advances more than 40' toward Hood's position.
Caveat: if Tan is armored in metal (and Hood can tell that he is) Hood will expend his focus for Fell Shot. If he is not, expend Hood's focus for a Psionic Shot.

The ready action should put me at the top of the initiative roster no matter what they roll. General idea for tactics for the entire fight is skate next round, and then outmaneuver them and gun them down for the remainder. Bob will ready an action to inform Hood of anything sneaky that approaches within his 40' telepathic "sight".

Msr Hood is unmolested as he prepares his attack. With a flourish he steps out into the open and announces his presence with his bow at ready. (I'll give you surprise).

One of the brutes reacts faster than the rest and begins to run toward Msr. Hood. With a howl of rage contorting his face and hides flapping in the wind, the ugly face approaches at a run. Msr Hood waits calmly before releasing the arrow at the last moment... The shot is beauty. It pierces the large shoulder and cuts the howl of rage short as the brute spins and falls unconscious a mere 10 feet from Msr Hood's boot.

The others gape for a moment as they see their companion fall to a single arrow. One appears to be a leader and he directs his two compatriots to move out more cautiously. They fan out and maneuver out of the narrow alleyway.

"So eet ees ze foul play, eh? Ze Hood encourages zhou to reconsider ze path zhou have shozzen!"

Hood's voice sounds triumphant and intimidating, but his eyeballs are still vibrating from the shockwave caused by the fall of the nine-hundred pounds of mountainous flesh on the nearby cobbles.

"Zey are queeck extraordinairement, Bob, oui?" Hood mumbles to Bob and gets a pulse of emotive alarm in return.

"I agree. Zey appear to be leaving ze home alone; we shall make zem run!"

Hood explodes into action and draws a powerstone with breathtaking speed. He concentrates and his feet lift from the stones below, pillowed on psionic energy. Hood gracefully glides down the alleyway, away from the house.

Manifest Hustle. Draw powerstone of Speed and manifest Skate [ML2]. Move here:

If one of 'em moves to base (I think Green could, if he runs), Tumble away and double move away, jumping over the hedges to the south (w/ skate, Jump is +11) and cutting into the alley to the south.

Msr. Hood evades down the alley.

The brutes look at each other for a moment and all draw forth potions and quaff them.

Oh, that can't be good. More to come later.

Hood watches with disgust as Green drinks his potion noisily.

"Oui, Bob. Zees cannot be good."

Hood spends a moment in concentration and then sets an arrow to the string, waiting for Green to come closer before blasting him.

Hood will spend a move action refocusing (Concentration +14 vs. DC 20), 5' step to the east, and then ready an action to fire on Green when he approaches to within 100'.
Since you described no visual effects with the drinking of the potion, I'm going to assume there are none (no blurry outline on Green, no invisibility, etc.).
If there are no visible effects, then Hood's next shot will be a Psionic Shot, expending Hood's focus for +2d6 damage. If Hood's refocus attempt failed, expend Bob's focus instead.
The roll should be +12 ranged; 1d8+3+2d6

Msr Hood regains psionic focus and holds his ground with an arrow ready.

Brute 1 appears to be the leader of this group. He says "Thack go big an squeeze little arrow man. Rorwg wake up Stunker with shiny ladie's cool juice. I'll use Boss Man's boom ball!"

With an accelerated speed, Brute 2 (green) taps a tattoo and grows to huge size! He approaches at a vastly accelerated speed (haste) and triggers Hood's readied action. The arrow hits (19hp) and the brute yelps in pain but is not slowed. He comes closer and ends adjacent to the fallen body of his ally. Brute 3 (Pink) fishes a healing potion from his pack and moves (hastened speed) adjacent to the unconscious hulk of Brute 4. Brute 1 (blue) moves in line (hastened) and pulls a bright red ball from a golden chain around his neck. Then he tosses the thing at Hood and it explodes into a ball of flame! Hood turns away from the blast and is only slightly scorched (8hp).

"Mon Deiu!" Hood curses as the flames lick his clothes and he turns away to protect the string of his longbow.

When he turns back, his heart nearly fails at the sight of the new size of the humanoid as he approaches.

Grimly, Hood fits another arrow and fires at Thack, imbuing it with another dose of psionic energy for the kill. He then turns to the south and hurdles the hedge, looking to buy some time for maneuvering and the setting of defenses.

Expend Bob's focus to shoot a Psionic Shot-laced arrow at Thack for the win. Use jump and 45' movement to cut between the houses to the south. They don't know whether I kept going or stayed and hid.
Use the next round to move south again and refocus.
Next round move and manifest Vigor for 15 hp.
Tumble out of threatened areas. 5' step if possible, refocus and unload. Buff Force Screen if given the opportunity. Fight a running battle that forces them to split forces to corral Hood. Use hedges for low cover and avoid putting Hood's back against the wall.

Go ahead and go through a few rounds, stopping only if something threatening happens.

I should be on tomorrow, but I don't know what time exactly.

...

I seriously considered using Psionic Grease on that area that could affect three of them. Their Reflex saves and Balance checks would've been hilarious. As fast as they are, though...it would only take one good roll and Hood would be based and in trouble.

Don't forget Hood's spiked gauntlet if they try to grapple. AoOs cancel grapplers without Imp. Grapple.

Hood's arrow flies true and hits Thack in the throat. He's killed instantly and falls like a huge tree landing on top of his unconscious ally. Hood looks to the southern hedge and decides he hasn't enough of a running start to clear it (DC40 w/o 20' running start). Instead he runs around the corner to the east and leaps a hedge there and hides (a little improvosation here, I hope you don't mind).

Rorwg dumps a potion down Stunker's throat and wakes him up (17hp). Stunker spends a full round getting out from under the bulk of his now dead ally. The leader takes something from the belt pouch of his fallen comrade and stows it as he barks order to his two compatriots. "Go that way with throw sticks, get cool juice ready. Me run around to other side. Drink cool juice if little arrow man stick you. Chase little man to me, and I hit him with sparkle stick."

Hood -8/45hp Skate
Brute 1 29/29hp Hastened

Finding his persuers temporarily paused, Hood takes a moment to manifest Vigor and tries to leap over the next hedge but fails. So he quickly lines himself up for another leap next time.

Rorwg and Stunker draw potions and move to follow Hood's retreat as they draw javalins. The leader draws a potion and moves to the north as he pulls out a club.

Brute 1 29/29hp Hastened
Brute 2 -40/29hp Dead
Brute 3 29/29hp Hastened
Brute 4 17/29hp

Hood manifests Force Screen and moves to leap over the hedge again. This time he succeeds and spots one of the thugs to the west. He changes direction and moves to the north.

Rowrg moves out into the open and throws a well made javalin at Hood. The weapon is aimed properly but deflects off one of Hood's protections. Stunker is moving slower and he follows barely comming around the corner. The leader splashes an oil on his club and chases after also comming around the corner.

Everyone chases after Hood and the Leader manages to get into base contact. At the end of the round, the haste effect wears off of the brutes.

Brute 3 29/29hp
Brute 4 17/29hp

Hood's in melee, so he tumbles away but slips up and is attacked on the move. His Vigor effect absorbes most of the blow (16hp damage). Hood leaps over a nearbye wall and regains psionic focus as he hides.

Rowrg moves around the hedge and spots Hood. He moves close, and throws his second Javalin. The missile misses. Stunker moves in behind and cannot spot Hood even though he's right there. The leader is on the other side of the hedge and cannot see Hood. So he moves to follow hood by leaping over the hedge in the adjacent spot. But he cannot get over the hedge and fails the attempt.

Brute 1 29/29hp
Brute 2 -40/29hp Dead
Brute 3 29/29hp
Brute 4 17/29hp

Protected with cover against the leader, and the other seams content to just attack from 20 feet away with javalin's so he returns fire and shoots Rowrg with a psionic arrow (15hp). Then fails to regain psionic focus, takes a 5' step and hides again.

Rowrg quaffs a potion (+11hp) and draws another javalin. Stunker moves closer and throws a very fine large sized javalin at Hood. The attack misses. The leader spots Hood on the other side of the wall and attacks him. Hood ducks behind the hedge and the cover saves him from taking another hit.

http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=city;a=Hood,M,53,60,52, 60;b=1Bru,L,53,62;d=3Bru,L,57,59;e=4Bru, L,59,55,57,57

Hood -9/45hp Skate, Force Screen
Brute 1 29/29hp
Brute 2 -40/29hp Dead
Brute 3 25/29hp
Brute 4 17/29hp

I figure you may want to put something in at this point. Hood has cover agains the leader (blue) and is not threatened by any of the others. Let me know what you want to do at this point. Rworg has one more javalin, but Stunker is out of missile weapons. You expect them to move to melee soon.

You're doing fine: the most important thing is that their haste has worn off {whew}. Now that Hood's faster than they are (especially with the jump check) and the hedge prevents AoOs from Blue, go ahead and double-move around the house in a southwesterly direction. After gaining some distance (with a Run across the square?) spend some more time regaining foci and then start puttin' 'em down with Psionic Shots.

Question: after every battle Hood's healed to full, right? If so, don't bother with more Vigors unless reduced to 1/2 hp or less.
SauroGrenom

01-21-07, 03:20 PM
To answer your question: No. Typical guild missions are run like a normal quest. Hood is not healed between battles, and the limits of the 3FC do not apply. You can use all your PP in the first battle if you want. [color]

Hood runs around the side of the house and tries to jump a fence. He gets stuck in the corner, and the brutes move around to surround him (Pink Brute "Stunker" is squeezing through the narrow space).

Among the belongings of the fallen foes, Hood finds the following items of interest: Large Size Javalin +1, 3x Large MW Javalins, 2x potions CMW, 1x Potion Shilleligh, 1x Cloak of Resistance +1 and about 1000gp in coins.
TheMagister

Hood collects the potions of CMW and quaffs them both eagerly. He also dons the cloak, admiring its cut as it sizes itself to his smaller frame.

He grunts as he shoulders the javelins and 1000 gp and lugs them over to the home that was under assault.

"Hallooo in zer! Ze coast eez zo verrie clear! Jhou may emerge!
Jhou have been zaved by Monsieur Hood of ze Warfare Alliance!"

If Zevox is correct per his post in the Tavern, then Hood is auto-healed in between battles. If that is the case, we'll save the CMW potions for later if that's all right. OR we could make it FOUR CMW potions, and Hood consumes two of them to total heal and pockets the other two. That would keep it simple, and wouldn't require anything but cosmetic edits.

You can save the potions for later, we'll assume you found 4 and were healed by using 2 of them. If you want the 2 CMW potions available for your use, you have to buy them. That will decrease your winnings by 600gp. If you prefer, we can leave the potions out of the fights all together. But you won't be able to use them in the battles.

Msr Hood calls out to the inhabitants of the home, and they reply.

Mister Good? Thank you so much! We'll be leaving now, but you should know that those brutes were members of a powerfull gang. I expect that you've made them mad. You'd best run before they catch up to you.

Hood helps them gather their meager belongings, and see's that they are headed in the direction of Central Gladius. No sooner than the family escapes around a corner a few blocks down the street than does the leader of the 1st group of brutes arrive... with a big brother. He points at Hood shouting, There! Little Arrow Man! He killed Thack, Rowrg and Stunker!

The larger one replies, "You go guard Boss Man's wing pet. I'll smash this one good."

The other brute runs away, as the new arrival draws a tremendous sword (well made, likely magical) and flies into a rage charging at Hood. (you can see he wears a breastplate, well made, likely magical)

Yecch. A large (insert race) barbarian with a big sword. At least there's only one of him. Still, that means that he's probably really nasty. At least Hood has some range on him.

"Oh ho! We are moving up ze shane of command, Bob! We should be honored, no?"

Hood turns to the frothing arrival and strikes a pose, hands on his hips, chest out and shoulders back. Of course, he is surreptitiously pulling a powerstone from his beltpouch and activating it mentally while his hand is so close to his pouch.

"You there...brute! Honor demands zat I geeve jhou ze shance to surrender to ze justice of ze Warfare Alliance!"

When the armored creature continues to roar and approach, Hood shrugs and speaks out of the corner of his mouth to Bob, "He does not weesh to surrender, Bob."

Hood sighs melodramatically, and shakes his head in resignation.

"And zo we fight. En Garde!"

Hood will draw and manifest Vigor [ML2 - 10 hp - ends 21] and 5' step away from Mr. Sword.

I'm a metagaming bastard. {Shrug} We are what we are, I suppose. Manifest Hustle (3pp) and draw a powerstone of skate, manifest skate, and then move away.

Gain some distance (might take a round or two) and lead him into the narrow alleyways. Along the way, draw a stone of psionic grease (I just can't resist!). Manifest the grease with him just on the far side of it, but with 1/2 his space inside the AoE. He'll have to make a Reflex save (DC 11) or fall, and then a Balance Check (DC 10) to move. If he makes the check he moves at 1/2 speed. If he fails the Balance Check he can't move, and if he fails by 5 or more, he falls anyways. Don't forget his ACP, and/or circumstance mods (charging or turning).

If he falls, move away (no more than 100' total over two/three rounds) and ready an action to shoot him (expending focus for Psionic Shot) when he stands (forcing another balance check if Hood hits...see the skill!). You can repeat the grease tactic twice.

Basically, the idea is to run him out of his rage first, then ask for his surrender again (if he survives the grease tactic), and failing that, gun him down with superior speed and Psionic Shot. Once his rage runs out he'll be fatigued, and can't even run to catch me. Makes my job a LOT easier.

I probably won't need Fell Shot. Just time. Still, if Hood misses consistently, go ahead and Fell Shot instead of Psionic Shot.

Any Questions/Comments?

I'm on my last graveyard shift tonight, so I'll be available for the next 8 hours online, with short breaks for actual "work".

After that, I'll be off for 3 days (tues/wed/thurs) and be back online during the day (fri/sat/sun) with long breaks for work in between.
Off Monday.
Nights again for three (tues/wed/thurs).

So that leaves us tonight, a long weekend, and tuesday to finish up (or five days).

Can we get as much done tonight as possible? I'd prefer not to be rushed and lose this thing in the last fight. What do you say?

Hood is ready for any threatening action by the exhausted barbarian, but none comes as the large brute pours out his story in broken speech.

To paraphrase... Brawrg and the others whom you have met today are the Yellow Eye Tribe. They were a small group of ogres living in a place they called Split Rock. You gather that Split Rock is some kind of natural cave where they had setup permanent camp. In those happy old days Brawrg was the leader, and they had a fine time hunting in the wilds. Some months ago, as winter was setting in, Brawrg was defeated in single battle by someone they call Boss Man. In their culture that means that Boss Man is the new leader, and he "moved" the tribe to Gauterix. The ogre tribe has been spending winter pillaging in the district under the instruction of the new leader. They guard his quarters and pegasus pet in the day, and pillage at night.

This new leader has no other name that you can tell except Boss Man. From the description of the battle between Brawrg and Boss Man, you guess he's a Half Giant psiwarrior of an ability level similar to your own.

I wouldn't mind leveling Hood up at all! I wouldn't be able to actually buy anything though, because I'm mid-cycle. Still, I could totally use the extra pp and new 2nd level power, as well as the +1 BAB/Saves and such.
...
And the xp/gp doesn't hurt.
...
And I don't wanna give no PsiWar a surprise round on me when he's got Hustle or other assorted nastiness AND LOS on round 1 (shudder).

I'll need an hour or so to level him up, and I'll repost his character sheet when I'm done. Will you be up any later tonight?

Edit: Even with the first two fights' rewards, Hood won't hit level 8. We'll just have to settle for a level 7 Boss Man. Which is scary enough, actually. :)

Brawrg leads Hood to the main park in the middle of the district. Here you find an open field where a camp has been setup. There are tents and fire pits and ogre guards standing about.

As Brawrg approaches he tells you that he'll call out the challange, and you will fight here on the plain where the whole tribe can watch.

You prepare yourself as he calls out the challenge. The camp erupts into a flurry of activity as the members all come out and setup a tremendous circle around the fighting area. Then some drumming begins, and Brawrg says Boss Mann comes real soon. Be ready. His claws burn but not like fire... He shudders as he says this, and then leaves to the edge of the field where the others wait.

I'll give you all the prebuffs you want. We'll use this map.

200' starting distance seams fare to me.

Edit: I thought you might want a description of the foe.

A half giant of large stature comes from the camp. He is escorted by a personal guard and wearing fine breast plate armor. His hands are distorted by tremendous claws that spring from the tips of the fingers and drops of oozing and hissing fluid fall from the tips as he swings his arms.

If you gave him deflect arrows I'll never forgive you. I've seen this mini-king-of-smack build before. Psionic Lion's Charge + all the neat claw powers + fast move + psionic fist = lots and lots of pain. Melee alpha strike + ranged alpha strike. I wonder how much Vigor he's got up...

Important Stuff:
Hood'll take all the aforementioned buffs, which leaves him looking like this:
HP: 45+10(vigor)
AC: 25 (21+3 [FS] + 1[DP])

Attacks: +13 (+11/+11) ranged; 1d8+3 (x3), [110 ft.]

Fort: 9
Ref: 7
Will: 8

7 pp

Hood blanches at the claws, which are highly visible even from this distance.

"Jhou are ze one zey call "Ze Boss Man"? I shallenge jhou to an affaire d'honneur for ze leadership of ze Yellow Eye raider band in ze name of ze Warfare Alliance!

How do jhou stand?"

I'm not evil. I didn't take you this far just to build a character to slay Msr Hood w/o a chance. There are lots of things I could have put on an ECL7 half giant psiwarrior to make him anti-archer. Instead I tried to make him a reasonably diversified character with his shtick being the claw thing.

The opponent simply looks at you for a second and begins to charge. Hood is ready and reacts a fraction of a second faster... As the first few feet are covered by the charging warrior, Hood fires two arrows in rapid succession. The first is charged with psionic energy focused into the shot and acid and energy channeled through the bow... The shot flies true and strikes the charging warrior in breastplate. It explodes in a blast of psionic energy and acid and the warrior falls (45hp damage of 45hp) to his knees. The second arrow sails clear as the warrior crumbles. Still breathing, but clearly disabled the warrior then manifests a power (animal affinity bear's endurance +12hp) and rises from his knees.

Hood takes a step back and releases another volley of arrows. The first strikes the warrior in the neck (22hp damage) and protrudes from the other side as he coughs and falls dead on his back only 1 pace from where his charge began. The second arrow passes through the now empty space where the warrior once stood.

The whole tribe erupts in cheers!

Hood shakes his head sadly as he lowers his bow to his side. "Ah, ze fool. Ze world zeems dark at times such as zees, eh, Bob?"

Moving quickly, Hood strides up next to the fallen ex-leader and shoulders his longbow as he kneels beside the corpse. A shimmering blue outline is just beginning to sparkle around the body when Hood pins a hastily scrawled note to the back of the "Boss Man's" tunic. The note reads,

"To the Authorities that Be: This person was the leader of the Yellow Eye raiders, and was apprehended while terrorizing the people of Gawane District. There are many witnesses. I request that this person be held while evidence is collected in the matter, and then expelled from the city when he is found guilty.

Your servant,

Monsiuer Hood of the Warfare Alliance

The body dematerializes as the Nimbus whisks it away to the Gladius Temple for Resurrection.

Hood stands and motions to Brawrg, calling him closer.

"Tell zem what I tell jhou, hey?"

Hood has Brawrg explain to the crowd of Yellow Eyes that Hood is their new leader, and that he commands them to disperse and leave the city of Gladius. OR, they can go visit the lovely district of Arkhein, where the Celestials will slaughter them mercilessly. Either way, the Gawane district is closed to them, and the Boss Mans of the city have been told of the group's bad actions. Hood also hints that they will be very angry and not as merciful as the humble archer that stands before them.

Squinting at the sun speculatively, Hood estimates that the group has about an hour before the Gladius Authorities arrive in force. They can always use extra conscripts to continue the work clearing out the sewers in Duken Marina. Why, just the other day they found two thirty-foot saltwater crocodiles down there...

Hopefully by this time the group will have broken up and left, probably on the run for the nearest gate.

"Ceetizens of Gawane! Jhou may now come out and enjoy ze parks and ztreets once again; ze Hood has driven off ze bandits! Think fondly of ze Warfare Alliance; for she thinks fondly of jhou!"

Hood lowers his voice for Brawrg alone.

"Come, my new friend. We shall zee eef Gwar can find a place for you in ze Alliance. Tell me; do you drink ze Borgos Ale?..."
