Use Bag of Tricks, Frobozz and summoned animals to attack. Hide.

Note that Treetall is trained in Autohypnosis and Tumble, so he can resist fear effects and caltrops and he can use Tumble to avoid attacks of opportunity.

Treetall lived in a small community of fey and druids deep in a forest far to the north. A few months ago, he was expelled by his comrades for reasons he refuses to speak of. Forced to leave with only the clothes on his back and a shabby-looking sack, he and his wolf-friend wandered for many weeks, begging for their bread. Finally his aimless journey culminated at the fabled city of Gladius. With nothing left to lose and little hope for the future, he has resigned himself to life in the gladiatorial ring. Perhaps this will help him forget the past...

Wumpus was the alpha male of a wolf-pack up north, renowned for his ferocity and keen ears. He found a kindred spirit in Treetall and has joined him on his travels.

Currently Wumpus has returned to the forest and Treetall has befriended an enormous bat named Frobozz.

Torel stood over the pool. This might be interesting, I have never done this before.

Beginning the incantation the pool began to take form, a swirl of color and then it settled. Well this is where we rescued Kervan and Zodiac, so lets see what we can find out. The pool shifted and moved, scenery changed and soon the viewed world seemed to be a blur. The overall tone of the image grew darker. There seems to be a dense patch of forest. The Circle itself might be there. Do you have an idea of where you are going, this is about the best I can do. I don't quite have the control I would like.

Torel looked up for confirmation from Treetall, the gnome seemed to take everything in.
hogarth

04-24-07, 09:52 PM
The grim little man nodded. "These forests are not as familiar to me as those of my native home to the north, but I believe I know this general area. Do you have any knowledge of what my friend and I might expect to find there?" Treetall stroked the neck of his new bat ally affectionately; the large beasts were quite popular among the druids in this part of the world.
I haven't finalised my character sheet quite yet, but it should be done by the deadline tomorrow.
Erithmu

04-25-07, 07:16 PM
Torel shook his head, "Even though we spent time with our headquarters in Yurynwood, I have been told that the current and former members of the guild never fully were able to explore the forest. The last two excursions that ended with rescue operations discovered the existence of what appears to be a dromite indigenous tribe who has mastered hydra training, as well as some planar shifts with salamanders and Time Filchers. I would expect almost anything at this point."

Looking back down into the pool he had sight of what appeared to be what he was looking for. "There, it seems as if there is a guardian of the circle. Looks like a very tall female ogre, but I would not put anything past what the circles can do."

I am going to roll the first two encounters (and have done for the first one) and the last one is hand picked, which should be fair.
hogarth

04-25-07, 11:35 PM
Treetall nods. "Very well then. I shall head off and do my best. I am not certain what a small fellow like me can do against such a large brutish termagant, but the power of Nature herself shall be on my side."

He and Frobozz take their leave and set off in the direction of the escried part of the forest.
Any opponents you care to pick are fine, of course.
Erithmu

04-26-07, 08:35 PM
Treetall took to the air and began the slow trek towards Yurynwood forest. The directions were easy enough to determine from the scrying pool.

About five minutes into his flight he saw the strangest sight. It seemed that two men were standing on a cloud having a conversation. Rubbing his eyes he looked again and found that he wasn't dreaming. One of the men noticed him and pointed the bat out to the other. The second looked while the first pulled a bow out. The second shifted formed into what looked like a silver lizard with wings.

Round 1:
Silver - Quaffs potion
Archer - Quaffs potion
Treetall - ??? (you can start with something in your hands)

Distance 100 ft, elevation equal (I am going to run this mostly as an aerial fight.)
hogarth

04-27-07, 09:58 AM
Treetall's eyes widen as he sees the creatures blocking his path and he considers how far there is to fall...

Hesitantly, he says "Uh...I'm just passing through. There's no need to fight, is there?"

Eep!

Treetall will start with his scroll of Obscuring Mist (et al) in his hand and his cloth with Deeper Darkness wrapped around his neck like a scarf.

Round 1: Cast Obscuring Mist from scroll and move back from the center of the cloud. Stow scroll.
Round 2: Cast Resist Energy (cold) from memory (shared with Frobozz), move slightly to randomize position in cloud. Draw wand of CLW.
hogarth

04-29-07, 11:02 AM
If it helps speed things up, the rest of his tactics are to cast Produce Flame on Frobozz, recall Produce Flame and cast it on himself and then charge at the enemy (Frobozz with a bite, Treetall with a touch attack). If either of them falls below half hit points, he'll try to heal them back to full.
Erithmu

04-29-07, 11:23 AM
It isn't that, I just have been busy this weekend with meetings and schoolwork.

Writing IMT tactics hasn't been fun either.

Treetall calls upon the clouds to surround him, but he quickly finds that the silver creature can see through both the fog and the darkness as a cold mist settles in followed by three quick strikes of the creature as Treetall continues to call upon his druidic defenses.

Round 1:
Silver - Quaffs potion
Archer - Quaffs potion
Treetall - Obscuring mist + Adjust and stow scroll

Round 2:
Silver Moves 100ft and breathes (Rflx: 20!, 18 dmg 8/2 = 4 Fb takes 0)
Archer - ??? (not visible) (move 20, SLA)
Treetall - move + cast Resist cold draw wand

Round 3:
Silver moves and bites at Treetall (atk 18 Ride: fail dmg 6)
Archer - ??? (Stow bow, move 20+draw scimitar)
Treetall - Move in cloud, Cast produce flame + shared

Round 4:
Silver moves and bites at tree tall (atk 1!)
Arhcer - ??? (move 40)
Treetall - Attack in mist w/ miss chance?

Treetall 38/48 (R: cold) (Proflame 63)
Frobozz 45/45 (R: cold) (Proflame 63)
Silver xx (buff 1)
Archer xx (buff 1) (buff 2)

Treetall sees the lizard flying through the swirling mist. Frobozz hovers as the druid and his companion attack with a flurry of flaming hands and fangs!
Yes, attack the enemy -- Treetall with a touch attack, Frobozz with a bite.
Erithmu

05-08-07, 12:49 AM
Treetall and Frobozz make an attack at the silver wyrm but both attacks find no target as nerves are still disengaged. The Archer comes within Frobozz's senses and is much larger than before, Treetall sees this as well with the shadow that is in the mist now.

Round 4:
Silver moves and bites at tree tall (atk 1!)
Archer - ??? (move 40)
Treetall - Atk: 6
Frobozz - Atk: 11

Round 5:
Silver Hover + atk: 13
Archer - finds his way through the mist and bases Tree and Fro (not flanking, Archer's size is now large)
Treetall - ??? stay and fight, or withdraw?

Treetall 38/48 (R: cold) (Proflame 63)
Frobozz 45/45 (R: cold) (Proflame 63)
Silver xx (buff 1) (Hovering)
Archer xx (buff 1) (buff 2)
hogarth

05-08-07, 09:39 AM
Treetall and Frobozz will keep trying to kill the silver lizard for the next couple of rounds unless one of them falls below 1/2 hp first. Don't forget the 20% miss chance for Obscuring Mist and the 20% miss chance for Deeper Darkness.

Technically, you might want to roll a Hide check for Treetall, too (since he's in concealment and he broke line of sight earlier) although he takes a -20 for attacking.
Erithmu

05-08-07, 09:57 AM
Treetall gets his first hit of the fight in and Frobozz is right behind with a bite to the silver wyrm. However both creatures attack back with a flurry of attacks of teeth, claws, and sword. The bite leaves a gash, but sets up for the Archer's sword to drive a long line across Treetall's side.

Round 5:
Silver Hover + atk: 13
Archer - finds his way through the mist and bases Tree and Fro (not flanking, Archer's size is now large)
Treetall - atk: 13 Miss: 33 dmg 9 fire
Fro - atk 20 dmg 8+10 fire

Round 6:
Silver: Full attack Tree (B:28,C:15,C:14 Dmg 5)
Archer - Swings: 23,10 Miss:no dmg:14
Tree - ???

The silver has no miss chance against you, but the Archer/swordsman does. either way you are below half.

Treetall 19/48 (R: cold) (Proflame 53)
Frobozz 45/45 (R: cold) (Proflame 53)
Silver xx-27 (buff 1) (Hovering)
Archer xx (buff 1) (buff 2)

I think I'm in trouble...
Treetall and Frobozz beat a logistical retreat from their two assailants. The little gnome heals himself with his wand frantically.
Withdraw action this round. Then Frobozz will move away at maximum while Treetall heals himself with his wand.
Erithmu

05-08-07, 04:40 PM
Just a comment: your going to take your wand vs a charging dragon? 1d8+1 vs 1d20+13 vs AC 18/22 for 1d6+4 dmg?
hogarth

05-08-07, 05:00 PM
Well, he'd still have to make a Spot vs. check to find Treetall, so there's a possiblity of a 50% miss chance, I guess. But I think Treetall's options are fairly limited. He's half-dead, so he has to heal somehow and the only other option for healing is to wild shape into an eagle or a baboon or something, in which case his AC is worse and he can't cast spells any longer.

On the ground he'd have some more options, maybe, but I don't know if that's an option.

So for now, he'll try fleeing and using his wand a bit. In case of emergency, he'll turn into a dire weasel and attack the dragon, going out in a blaze of blood-draining glory. ;)

Quests are not meant to limit your options so don't feel like I'm driving you one way or another. (As I look back at what I said early on and eat my words)

Then Treetall will order Frobozz to withdraw/dive towards the ground. If he gets a chance to use his wand of CLW along the way, he'll go for it.

Treetall has Frobozz stall out and begin to dive to the ground. A blur of darkness screams from the cloud to distant viewers. Followed by a silver speck and then a slower moving large object.

Treetall hit the rough canopy with the wyrm in close proximity, Frobozz began to attack with fervor and took down the wyrm in protection of his master. The large scimitar wielding archer was now at the right level and floated looking at the dark blob that treetall inhabited.

Treetall moves quick and gets some distance between himself and the Archer. Calling upon the natural storm Treetall plays a quick game of chase before he finally finishes off the Archer. Reaching his destination Treetall found that there was a full temple surrounding the circle. Landing he remained mounted on Frobozz looking at the temple. There seemed to be main entrance as well as many upper level balconies. With a quick scan he found that most of the stone had been vine covered with natural growth, yet still well tended. Having Frobozz go through the main door he heard a familiar sound of hissing. Glancing around he saw what he knew. Two large vipers were crawling out of the ceiling, but the dangerous one was across the way slithering towards him.

No fluff today ... sorry.

Round 1:
East double moves west
Constrictor Double moves NW (reaching pool)
South double moves north
Treetall begins to cast Summon Swarm while Fro single moves

Round 2:
Snakes all move in
Tree finishes his spiders and moves away as they go after the east snake (3 dmg 2 str) and then moves away from the group. (swarm range 40ft)
Ok here is my problem, I figure you want to use the swarm as long as you can, but if you move 45ft away (to prevent the snakes from attacking you) you break concentration on the spell for being out of range. Do you want to accept the charges and work the swarm for all of them, or just particular ones, or ...

Ok ... when I originally rolled up this encounter I figured it was not an auto win due to the fact that you couldn't just swarm them to death. I'm not going to reroll them now that it is basically an auto win, that just isn't fair to you. So you win Week 2 with only using Summon Swarm and we move onto week 3.

Again ... thank you for dealing with me as I have been worked over in real life.

Letting the spiders take care of the job Treetall continued on into the temple making his way to the central area where he hoped to find the druidic circle. entering into what must have been a back grove he heard chanting in the distance and approached cautiously. He saw a female ogre who seemed to be preparing some sort of ritual. As he moved slightly closer the ogre looked up and growled.

"You there -- are you the guardian of this circle? I have business here; will you step aside or are you going to stand in my way?" The little man refuses to be cowed by the enormous harridan.
When combat seems inevitable, Treetall will start by casting Sleet Storm. What does the map look like? Still the temple?
Erithmu

05-22-07, 01:48 PM
Treetall reacts quicker than the ogre can seem to move and floods the area with a thick rain. The ogre doesn't come out.

Round 1:
Treetall - Sleet Storm + move?
Ogre - ??? (not visible)

Map is temple map but with 60ft of roofing that is basically vines. Ogre is in the middle area, and you are at any corner you would like. There is no lava pool and the central statue is not there, assume that the 'lava pool and center statue' are just an inscribed diagram. You can break through the roofing vines if you want, probably in a DC something Str check or I'll figure out some vine hps

Sacrifice Chill Metal to summon 1d3 monkeys. Give the Dust of Sneezing and Choking to one of them and tell it to throw it at the hag. Then while she's choking, call an animal from the Bag of Tricks to attack and join the attack with Produce Flame (recalled with a Pearl of Power if necessary).

Treetall executes his plan to perfection, and the monkies chip in what damage they can, Frobozz is caught up in the mix of the dust and coughs along with the hag. Most of the Fire that Treetall flings is deflected, but the hag looks a little more charred than before.

1) I mentioned summoning an animal from the bag of tricks, but I dont' see it.
2) After the first time that Produce Flame fizzles, can Treetall summon a hippogriff (using his second Summon Swarm)? I admit I forgot about the SR, so maybe it's too late.
