| TelinArtho05-09-07, 11:58 AM | A sharp knock came to Ignatius's door. Putting aside what he was doing, he opened it to find Rhengarvin and Captain Mellios on the other side. I was hoping that we'd have word back from Sir Valkin, but he has yet to return from Gawane. Unfortunately - we simply can't wait any longer. Captain Mellios will brief you on what has gone on - meanwhile I will seek out a messenger to get word to Sir Valkin. Rhengarvin leaves, looking quite distraught. Ignatius ponders only a moment on it and then turns his full attention to Mellios. What little we have heard from Sir Valkin's deeds has given us some clue as to the going's on in the underworld of Gawane. Leif's failed venture revealed similar issues underneath that portion of this city and frankly, until it is dealt with - the citizens of Gawane are not the only ones at risk. Unfortunately, as usual, information is sketchy and at a high premium. My hope is that your prensence will help solidify our standing in Gawane so that the people there will not only trust us, but also confide in us their problems so they can be dealt with quickly, efficiently and with finality. Until then - we have to jump at their problems as they come exposed to the rest of the populace, and frankly - that means lives are being lost. So that is the reason we need you to head to Gawane at all haste. Sir Valkin's footsteps will hopefully return shortly with good news, but we simply can't wait for the people to come to us for help. They would rather die than swallow that pride. Good luck - godspeed. We can get going whenever you are ready. Big forewarning - your encounters are difficult (aren't they all?), so be prepared to think out of the box... |
| Erithmu05-09-07, 03:11 PM | Ignatius nodded at Mellios. Since his return from the elven lands, Ignatius did not always see eye to eye with the Captain, but he set his personal feelings aside when the goal was clear enough. Putting on his traveling robes he went down to Lydia's room. Knocking she opened the door. We have a task to do. There are innocent lives that are being taken in Gawane, meet me in the main hall when you are ready. She nodded and closed the door, Ignatius could hear the sound of chain moving inside the room. Returning to his room he gathered his weapons and mentally touched the mental powers at his disposal, content that they were all there he made his way to the main hall. Mellios was there and Lydia was waiting as well, glaive in hand. Sometimes only one talon is needed to do the job required. she said with about as much sarcasm as she could muster. Perhaps, but sometimes one must become the entire claw to see a job done. She smiled at the returned quip. Mellios seemed to ignore the whole of the situation. We are ready Captain. |
| TelinArtho05-09-07, 03:29 PM | Ignatius was a little dismayed to see that it was raining outside. Preoccupied in his room with his own thoughts, he apparently had missed the start of the water falling from the sky. By the time he reached Gawane proper, the rain had tapered some but showed little indication of stopping completely. Within the mercantile portion of Gawane, most of the outdoor vendors set up elaborate mechanisms to keep the rain off of their wares to varying degrees of success. With Lydia by his side, a strange sight caught both of their eyes at the same time - a street vendor's cart being struck assunder by a giant's polearm. Around the corner of the building, it was nearly impossible to see the giant himself, but another stood nearby. The second one spoke loudly to gain the attention of the entire street and many of the side streets nearby. Let this be a lesson to you all. If you do not pay your dues - this will be your fate as well. Have a nice day. The pair immediately stalk away from the scene - but the effects are uniform. No one goes near the destroyed cart, nor does anyone see if the merchant himself is injured or not. Frightened, they all stay where they are until the giants are out of sight. Both giants are wearing chain shirts for armor. One bears a glaive while the other had a greatsword in hand. Both have bows strung across their chests. The glaive wielder also has armor spikes. They did not spot Iggy or Lydia as anything special in the crowd of people. http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=city;a=gian,L,9,30,9,22 ,glaive;b=gian,L,8,32,8,24,greatsword;c= vend,M,10,32,street vendor;d=iggy,M,20,33, ;e=lydi,M,20,32, |
| Erithmu05-09-07, 03:46 PM | Ignatius moved up slowly towards the cart, manifesting a protection power. Lydia drew her glaive and walked up beside him allowing the Vicar to do the dirty work. Manifest Inertal Armor, and move up 30 ft, Lydia behind. I want to get to the cart have Iggy in the open checking on the vendor and Lydia still behind the building out of sight from the giants. |
| TelinArtho05-09-07, 05:07 PM | As the half-dragon checks on the status of the merchant whose cart was destroyed, the giants do a complete turn around. The one with the sword bellows out: HEY! If you were given permission to help him - we would've told you. Get away from him if you know what's good for you. The giant suddenly disappears completely, followed by a nasty cackle of laughter. [Initiative] Giant 1 (Sword) 21 - invisible. Lydia 19 -- glaive in hand Giant 2 (Glaive) 8 Ignatius 5 -- inertial armor manifested before initiative Lydia's action. http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=city;a=Name,L,9,22;b=gi an,L,8,24,invisible;d=Name,M,10,32;e=Nam e,M,11,32 |
| Erithmu05-09-07, 05:15 PM | Ignatius looked up at only one opponent, standing up from his kneel he drew his guisarme and stood waiting in the middle of the street. No. Lydia will delay for now. Iggy: move into the street allowing for a charge, while drawing Ada Guisarme. Readied Action: 3pp Expansion for 20ft away. Activate Chain of superiority Trip on the AoO. |
| TelinArtho05-09-07, 05:25 PM | The glaive-wielding giant shifts the glaive into one hand and graps a vial from his belt. Uncorking it - he drinks it and tosses the bottle away. Showing a toothy smile, he puts his other hand back on the glaive. All at once - his form becomes non-distinct - still visible but all at once tougher to pinpoint. Come here kitty Drinks a potion of Blur if that's not obvious. Iggy acts. What is Lydia delaying for? http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=city;a=gian,L,9,22,blur ;b=gian,L,8,24,invisible;c=iggy,M,10,32, 9,31,ready;d=Name,M,11,32 |
| Erithmu05-09-07, 05:33 PM | Lydia continues to wait Iggy draw and manifest Force Screen from stone. Make reactive listen checks to figure out where the other one is. |
| TelinArtho05-10-07, 10:28 AM | Although the invisible giant is invisible, Lydia swears she hears him flying overhead - though how far overhead she cannot be certain. She hears him above but has not a chance to pinpoint. Iggy is clueless. The other giant cackles again and points at Ignatius. Suddenly the air turns freezing cold and the entire area is blasted with ice, snow, wind and cold. Ignatius takes the brunt of the blast head on. Even behind the bushes, Lydia is unable to avoid the worst of it and almost collapses - frostbite on her fingers. Both Iggy and Lydia fail saves vs Cone of Cold. 30 damage to each Surrender yourself now or feel your bones crack within my teeth, whelp. |
| Erithmu05-10-07, 12:43 PM | Grr me not re reading the map ... I though that green was the vendor still ... I wanted Lydia back like 20 ft behind the house. Time to put a smack on ... Iggy charges Boots on, CoPS active, PA 4 +12 to hit, 2d4+21 to damage if I hit. Lydia -- If allowed to be behind the building: Ready EM(Fire) 6pp + 2 surge on the flying one on sight -- If not Move behind the building manifest 6pp + 2 surge vigor |
| TelinArtho05-10-07, 12:51 PM | Crap - didn't realize that it reassigns colors according to the number of pins in. I can grant having Lydia further back - but it seemed to me that you wanted her there to get a jump on someone moving to attack Iggy. Still - the map was my own fault - so she can be further back - and undamaged by the cone. |
| Erithmu05-10-07, 01:02 PM | No I want Lydia to be basically unnoticed at the moment. Iggy will still make his charge attack (and draw AoO) If somehow the 2nd one makes an AoO and becomes visible try to get them both in the EM(fire) |
| TelinArtho05-10-07, 04:17 PM | Ignatius charges at the visible giant, dodging the giant's swiping glaive along the way. As the glaive misses, Ignatius notes mentally the blade is covered in ice. He swings his guisarme with amazing strength and speed - but yet - inexplicably - the weapon misses his target. Ignatius curses at the giant. AoO misses. Ignatius - Miss due to concealment from blur. Lydia continues to search for signs of the other giant. With breathing nearly on top of her - its immense form appears directly overhead - just in the moment he swings his sword down on her. The blade cuts into her deeply and she gasps in pain. Reflexively she manifests her powers inward until they overpower her psyche and she forces them out. A burst of fire pounds on the giant - but it dissipates harmlessly over the giant. Lydia is hit for 14 damage. Ready action triggered - manifest defensively -success - Spell resistance check - failed; Enervation - passed The giant cackles some more. Well what do we have here? Another woman to add to my collection? Let's have some fun you and me - shall we? He then yells back. Watch for fire from this one Bugle. She's a fiesty one [Status - middle of round 3] Ignatius 31/61, Inertial Armor (ends 1 hour), Force Screen (ends 11), Boots of Speed (1/10), charged Lydia 19/33, 6pp used Giant 1 xx/xx, no longer invisible Giant 2 xx/xx, Blur (ends 31), used cone of cold http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=city;a=gian,L,9,22,blur ;b=gian,L,13,33,flying;c=iggy,M,9,31,9,2 4,charge;d=lydi,M,14,32 |
| Erithmu05-10-07, 04:46 PM | If I am not mistaken it is the glavie giant's turn followed by Iggy and then Lydia. Iggy will full attack PA 4 again keep the boots going. Lydia will try again to burn the other one. Expend focus for conc check. |
| TelinArtho05-10-07, 05:08 PM | The giant with the glaive steps away from Ignatius and pulls a potion from his belt again and drinks it. No outward effect is obvious, but Ignatius doesn't want to find out either. Ignatius attacks the giant with all his might, but his guisarme clatters harmlessly off of the giant's armor. Lydia braces herself for another blow from the giant's sword as it comes down on her. It strikes her and nearly fells her at that moment. It is all she can do to remain standing. Lydia is disabled (0hp) - still proceed with the EM? |
| Erithmu05-10-07, 05:31 PM | Wouldn't the readied action switch order, so that Lydia would be before the Giant? either way yes ...continue w/ EM(fire) Iggy Steps and full attacks Also I am seeing what people are saying about your dice ... good grief .. |
| TelinArtho05-10-07, 05:48 PM | Invisible giant attacks - becomes visible - then ready action goes off. Invisibility is the one case where a ready action doesn't reset the readier's initiative to before the trigger. |
| Erithmu05-11-07, 12:42 PM | As above continue with KO tactics. |
| TelinArtho05-11-07, 01:38 PM | Hmm - did you want to continue power attacking this round? |
| Erithmu05-11-07, 01:40 PM | Hmm - did you want to continue power attacking this round? Yup ... boots still going as well. |
| TelinArtho05-11-07, 01:50 PM | Ignatius hears the burst of another fire gout behind him and hopes that Lydia is safe. The booming chuckle from her direction however does not reassure him. His senses attuned to the fight before him, he swipes once downward to distract his opponent, only to reverse the swing midway - taking the mighty giant down in one swing. Rest is only short-lived however, for as he turns around to face his other opponent - the other giant disappears once more. Your little girl didn't put up much of a fight I'm afraid. Passed out on the ground over there - go ahead and look - for what good it'll do you. The voice calls out from the air mockingly. Unable to see to confirm the words, Ignatius focuses instead on getting to her after this foe is dealt with. She failed her SR check again. Ignatius misses on his first swing, but the second is a confirmed critical for 57 damage -oops... x3 critical on a guisarme... one sec: 84 damage. He does see that the wounds are quickly closing up though... The giant with the sword is currently invisible. The sound of the voice is coming from near the location of where Lydia fell down. |
| Erithmu05-11-07, 06:17 PM | Ignatius deactivates his boots and moves over to where Lydia is trying to discern the situation. 37-84 = 41 so I got 8 rounds of the first one KO'd. If he remains invisible: stabilize Lydia w/ an untrained heal check. If she stabilizes before that move back to the other giant. Also ... this is the 'market' district? :) EDIT:Just looked at the roller: First ML check passed vs SR, Wild Surge increases ML for SR purposes. |
| TelinArtho05-14-07, 10:15 AM | Son of a gun... okay - yes the original EM hit, but the second one misses and drops her to the ground. Ignatius moves back to Lydia, keeping his eyes peeled for the giant to reemerge. As he bends down to see if he can bandage her wounds, Ignatius hears the giant approaching him at a breakneck speed. Closer and closer. Suddenly the giant appears, greatsword in mid swing and without enough time to dodge aside of the attack. The sword bites deeply into Ignatius, but he is able to take it and still stand. Charge from the ogre - 21 damage on the hit. First heal check fails. The ogre is flying at 5ft and at reach for you. |
| Erithmu05-14-07, 03:58 PM | I am assuming I still have my guisarme in hand. kick on the boots and gimme 2 swings, no PA. |
| TelinArtho05-15-07, 12:20 PM | Ignatius swings hard at the giant with his guisarme and knocks the giant from the air. Rest is not granted though - for he can see the wounds closing up quickly - though the burns seem to be staying despite the regeneration. End them as you wish... An ogre mage stands about 10 feet tall and weighs up to 700 pounds. Its skin varies in color from light green to light blue, and its hair is black or very dark brown. Ogre mages favor loose, comfortable clothing and lightweight armor. Ogre mages speak Giant and Common. Combat Ogre mages rely on their spell-like abilities, resorting to physical combat only when necessary. When faced with obviously superior forces, they prefer to retreat using gaseous form rather than fight a losing battle. Spell-Like Abilities: At will—darkness, invisibility; 1/day— charm person (DC 14), cone of cold (DC 18), gaseous form, polymorph, sleep (DC 14). Caster level 9th. The save DCs are Charisma-based. Flight (Su): An ogre mage can cease or resume flight as a free action. While using gaseous form it can fly at its normal speed and has perfect maneuverability. Regeneration (Ex): Fire and acid deal normal damage to an ogre mage. An ogre mage that loses a limb or body part can reattach it by holding the severed member to the stump. Reattachment takes 1 minute. If the head or some other vital organ is severed, it must be reattached within 10 minutes or the creature dies. An ogre mage cannot regrow lost body parts. |
| Erithmu05-15-07, 12:23 PM | And I thought you were going to make me work that out ... I don't have a way to 'end' them since I don't have any fire or acid damage. I was going to scrounge for some wood and make a fire and then continue to CDG them w/ the Guisarme. Does Lydia live to fight another day? And yea I knew they were ogre mages from the front end. PS: Grab the Comp long bow and arrows, I might need it later. |
| TelinArtho05-15-07, 12:33 PM | Yes she survives. As to ending them - you can always turn them in to the authorities who will bring them before a magistrate and have them properly dealt with... You can grab the bow and arrows - do note that they are large size though. Obviously you can't keep them at the end unless you pay for them though. |

EDIT: Looks like 3 rounds of boots used. |
| TelinArtho05-15-07, 08:52 PM | As the giants are carted off to be seen by the nearest magistrate, one of the duo catches Lydia's eye as she is brought back standing. See you later, pretty princess... Andon is going to have fun with you. Lydia and Ignatius exchange glances - for neither one had heard the name before. Returning to the scene of the incident, Ignatius finds the merchant was frozen to death by the giant's lethal cone of cold. While inspecting the scene - he caught whiff of brimstone - and of something else - not unlike his own kind in a way. What is it? Lydia could tell the reaction from Ignatius was not one of concern over the dead merchant. Just then though - the ground rumbled beneath them. The stones quickly broke apart and swallowed the pair of Bahamut's followers. Falling within - the landing was rough - but did not cause any overt harm. Curious members in the area - ran to the edge - but fled almost instantly at the sound of an infernal roar emerging from the cavern Ignatius found himself in. Okay - you are at the default starting area of area 1 on the cavern map. The roar comes from the opposite starting area. The hole above you is an option for escape if you can climb or fly out - in which case - you can make the fight in the city - up to you. Did I mention this encounter is going to be difficult? Good luck. |
| Erithmu05-16-07, 03:20 PM | Ignatius muttered. Strong defenses. Iggy: Stone: vigor 3pp expansion + Draw Guisarme 1pp IA 1pp FS Stop if this gets interrupted Lydia: 6pp +2 surge vigor Delay till target is seen, say behind one of the statues to look out to see if she can see it approach. We are staying in the cavern. |
| TelinArtho05-16-07, 03:36 PM | Lydia calls upon her inner strength as she stands from the ground. Maneuvering to a nearby column, she looks and listens for whatever it is that threatens them. She and Ignatius both here the intonation of magic nearby - and then the sound of something large moving quite quickly. Just at the edge of a corner - Ignatius spots it - a red dragon mounted by a figure in armor and a lance in hand. The rider is difficult to make out - as if he entertains the same protective magic that the giant did above ground. On spotting each other, the rider growls out Tresspasser! Time for Andon to eat I see. Come Firespark - let us feast upon this little trifle. http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=cavern;a=Name,M,4,27;b= Name,M,3,27,4,23;c=Name,L,29,2,19,10;los =4,27,19,10,2 Your initiative - do you want to continue with the buffing? EDIT - I just noticed - Lydia does not have any ranks in psicraft. |
| Erithmu05-16-07, 03:51 PM | Ewwww.... Cold ... quickly Ignatius drew upon some of his mental power to increase his size Round 1 Iggy: 3pp expand move to take up the SE corner of the starting box proper round 2 Lydia moves to where Iggy was standing 6pp+2 surge EM cold dragon and rider - ??? Iggy - pending |
| TelinArtho05-16-07, 04:04 PM | Ignatius moved away - drawing his guisarme? - and suddenly grew in size. Lydia - hearing Ignatius's almost calm request moved to where he was standing and barely flinched at the sight of the dragon and its rider. Focusing inward - the air drew a breath as if from Bahamut himself and thundered through the air as a ballista's bolt. The bolt split in two just before striking - hitting both the rider and the dragon in one blast squarely. The rider - somehow - was not affected by the blast - it merely washed over him as water over oil. The dragon however was noticeably affected as it roared in pain from the excessive cold. Wench! You'll pay for that! The dragon and rider ducked backward for a moment and Ignatius and Lydia could hear the dragon reciting an incantation. Ignatius could barely understand the pattern - but he guessed it was a protection spell of some sort. http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=cavern;a=Name,L,2,29;b= Name,M,3,27,4,23,4,27;c=Name,L,29,2,19,1 0,20,10;los=2,29,19,10,2 Ignatius, Expansion, 3pp used Lydia, Vigor (+40hp), 12pp used Dragon xx-76/xx, buff 1, buff 2 Rider xx/xx, Blur |
| Erithmu05-16-07, 04:20 PM | SE corner ... not NW Seeing the retreat Ignatius drew power from a stone at his belt. Lydia waited a moment for the pair to come back out. Gimme the vigor stone Lydia: Readied 5pp + 2 surge ego whip at the Gith on sight (and pass the dumb SR 13 for geebs sake That should leave lydia w/ 5 pp left to spend for this fight pending enervation. Edit: Dragon failed save .. 10 +5cha+2level of power+5 augment = DC 22 Suck it down dragon. |
| TelinArtho05-17-07, 10:59 AM | Ignatius called upon the power of a stone he drew forth and then let it drop with a clatter on the stones underfoot. Holding his guisarme he prepared for the opponents to emerge again. Lydia prepared herself as well. The both of them heard a single word - Tankoth. Ignatius, Inertial Armor, Expansion, Vigor (+10hp), 3pp used Lydia, Vigor (+40hp), 12pp used Dragon xx-76/xx, buff 1, buff 2, buff 3 Rider xx/xx, Blur |
| Erithmu05-17-07, 11:01 AM | How close on that word? If it is within say 40ft move for cover both of us If it is across the battlefield, then buff w/ IA and FS as long as they are far away. Have lydia move back to cover in the statues. |
| TelinArtho05-17-07, 11:06 AM | It still came from the other side of the cavern. About where the dragon was the last time you saw it (though it still is out of sight). |
| Erithmu05-17-07, 11:10 AM | I ninja'd you, continue w/ buff cycle and have Lydia move back to cover. |
| TelinArtho05-17-07, 11:26 AM | Ignatius focuses inward to protect himself and points to have Lydia move back between the columns nearby. Without warning the dragon and rider emerge from the nearest corner. As soon as they appear, Lydia's reaction time is quick and she reaches out at the rider with mental tendrils. However, she hits a wall and cannot navigate through it. Ignatius takes a swipe at Dragon/Rider with his guisarme before the dragon bites at him and the rider tries to impale him with his lance. [Force Screen is up. Ready action for Ego whip triggered (but failed SR check). Dragon and Rider provoke AoOs for moving out of a threatened area and then they attack if they can.] |
| Erithmu05-17-07, 11:38 AM | Trip attempt on Rider. Also I counter Trip at +20 I didn't have Lydia's glaive out, so she will not take an AoO. Edit: Grr I just realized my IA from last week survived the Time roll, can I get force screen up then? |
| TelinArtho05-17-07, 12:04 PM | No problem - forgot to check the duration myself. Force screen is up, as is Inertial armor. Total AC is 20+4(IA)+4(FS)-2(expansion) With instantaneous reaction time, Ignatius swings his guisarme but somehow the blurry image of the rider eludes his swing. While the dragon moves closer, the rider, in a fluid motion, drops his lance and his sword is in hand in less than an instant. The dragon and rider attack in unison. The rider's sword cuts deeply into Ignatius and he isn't able to block the massive jaws of the dragon. Rough luck on the blur again... Ouch - confirmed crit from the rider for 21 damage, regular hit from the dragon for 25 damage. Dragon and rider are basing Ignatius (realized that he didn't want the lance since he wasn't charging - but he has quickdraw so it is not important) http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=cavern;a=Name,L,5,26;b= Name,M,4,27;c=Name,L,7,24 |
| Erithmu05-17-07, 12:22 PM | For the record, I hate you and your dice, but your dice more so ... Iggy delays till after Lydia. Lydia Move south around the far side of the pillars (2,22) 5pp +2 surge Dispel psionics (ML = 6+2 surge +4 augment = +12) on the dragon. Iggy 5ft step N Activate CoPS, Boots: full attack the dragon CE 2 +12/+12 for 2d6+14 AC = 29 |
| TelinArtho05-18-07, 12:49 PM | Missed that you wanted Combat Expertise in the roller - didn't make a difference in the rolls though. Ignatius waits for Lydia to get into position - where she blasts the dragon's defenses away. Once done, Ignatius steps away and quickly swings at the dragon twice. The first hit is deflected off of the dragon's tough hide, but the second connects well and leaves a nasty cut on the dragon's flank. The dragon, angered by its wounds, bites and claws at Ignatius - rending him into pieces. Confirmed crit on the bite for 38 damage, Claw hits for 9, Wing hits for 6 and Tail slap hits for 16. I have to double check - but I think that spells the end for Iggy... HP 61/61 + 6 CoPS, +10 vigor -46 from last round = 31/67 - (38+9+6+16) |
| Erithmu05-18-07, 01:19 PM | Yea ... this was the option of lesser evils ... My other option was to blast away w/ another EM (cold) but then I figured the dragon's AC was 21 (base) +4 MA +4 shield and I needed 20s to hit anyways. I'll count this up to the dice roller ... although that ego whip probably should have been and EM (cold) again. I figured the gith probably had 6 cha, and in retrospect yea .. should have been EM(cold) |
