Lemminkäinen is a fierce warrior of the north. His home is on a harsh island east of Joveney, but he has been on the road for the most of his life. He is a descendant of the fire giants that roam the Anglade Mountains. The giant blood in his veins makes him a temperate person who is easy to find troubles but also capable to overcome them. He enjoys life and the adventure it has to offer. His biggest weaknesses are beautiful ladies, strong ale and love of battle.

Lemminkäinen has always used his strengths to make a living. When he was young, he worked hard in the service of the Duke of Joveney and on his spare time learned how to use a sword. When he was good enough, he joined the ranks of the Duke's army for 5 years. He fought in several battles and learned the ways of the soldiers, but also got some practice in the ways of magic. After his service in the army, Lemminkäinen took up the mantle of an independent warrior.

He participated on many adventures, gaining wealth and skill on the way, but most of it he spent in the taverns of Norderstahl. Once the Duke of Joveney called Lemminkäinen to his aid. The task was to escort a wizard to the Archmage Enclave. After a series of events thei party was tossed into the Abyss, where Lemminkäinen was killed and he fell into the river Styx. Miraculously his companions were able to escape the Abyss and recover his remains. He was brought back to life by a cleric, but he had somehow changed. He had gained some psionic powers and now his search to become familiar with them has led him to Gladius and the PSI Consortium.

Lemminkäinen rides through Kelartus in broad daylight and finds the correct neighborhood easily. A tremendous 4 story house with a round 6 story tower on one corner dominates a sea of thatch huts and mud streets. Dirty faces stare and grubby hands twitch as a very tall warrior wearing gleaming plate mail and riding a powerful stallion comes to their corner and pases bye.

Beggars crowd around you and clutch at you crying out their woes.

You sent the PM saying that thursday and friday would be buisy. I thought I'd give you a bit of a chance to RP your character in the midst of a mob of beggars (sense you're obviously rich). If you don't have time for that, I'll post the next bit and lead directly into the tactical combat part of the MQ.

"Out of my way, beggars! I'm on an important errand here!" Firesoul pushes forward in the crowd and the beggars are smart enough to move out of the way. Lemminkäinen digs some copper coins and tosses them to the beggars so that they would move away. He doesn't like them, but he doesn't want to crush them.

Sorry, it took so long, but it was already wednesday night here when you posted the thread. But now I'm back and have plenty of time on weekend for CoCo!

The street urchins fall away and scramble after the coppers alternatively calling out thanks to you and cursing each other as they fight for the coins.

You feel dozens of eye watching you as you ride to the gate of the largest house in the area. An automaton opens the door at your approach and closes it behind. The silence within is a remarkable contrast to the noise without.

The entry room is well appointed with polished woods and spartan furniture made of exotic and expensive woods. The silence is suddenly broken by a whirring and whistling sound. You spin on your heals to locate the noise, and spot a strange clockwork device shaped like a gnome is hobbling toward you...

It's body is crafted of various bronze springs, gears and struts. They move with miraculous intricacy and propel the thing toward you at a slow pace. It is equipped with a contoured "face" plate near the top, and as it approaches within 15', a magic mouth appears and begins to speak. "Thank you for coming. May I take your cloak?" With a "THWANG, a spring loaded arm shoots out and appears ready hold a cloak.

Moments later you hear an unfamiliar sound approaching rapidly. It's akin to the sound of a continuous avalanche of marbles bouncing along a tile floor... Suddenly another "thing" comes into view. This one is somewhat feline in construction, but it's equipped with at least two dozen legs that all end with tiny needle points. It's mouth moves and a tiny snakes head appears... It speaks with a reptilian hiss...Master Setharus is this way. He expecting you. Come this way...

He leads you down a hall and up a winding stair to a chamber high in the tower. In a room near the top you meet Setharus. The room is populated by dozens of fling whirring constructs that fly into the window and "plug" them selves into a huge brass box on the wall for a few seconds, then fly out again. And there are bees in the room. Many of them doing strange things like grouping together to carry tools or rotate a flowerpot toward the sun.

Setharus is a strange small creature with black skin, an oversized head and swollen joints. He is bent over a project on a bench and wears a tool belt, odd contraption on his head and wide bracers with various protrusions, but is otherwise naked and genderless. He looks at your with large lidless eyes, and his speech sounds like the hum of bees. Welcome. You are the Consortium's representative. Formidable. I'm afraid the map will take a few more minutes to dry. It was inked only hours ago. He gestures to a sheet of vellum on a nearby bench.

We can get as much done today as we can with RP. By the end of the day I'll need tactics for the battle. When I agreed to this MQ, I forgot that I'm going with my wife's father's birthday this weekend. I'll be away from internet on saturday and most of sunday. That puts me in another time crunch for getting all the fights and MQ's done. Rotten swiss cheese memory...

Lemminkäinen moves to the side of the room. "I'd rather stand. You know how it is in a heavy armor," he says, but thinks: Or probably you don't... He wonders what he will face as an enemy on his adventures with the Consortium, if this is what they have for friends.

The hulking warrior moves around the chamber, examining the strange automatons that fill the room.

Just give me a hint what I am facing and what are the conditions and I'll give you general tactics. I won't probably have my horse around, right?

Edit: Whatever I am facing, I think I'll try to end things quickly. First cast Bull's Strength, then draw greatsword and go for a smite psionic weapon swing. That should be +14 to hit and 6d6+12 damage. If that doesn't do it, Inflict Serious Wounds. If damaged badly, convert healing spells. If the opponent is something unliving, of course don't use the inflict. Everything is there to be used, so improvise if needed. And one thing, this should probably be out of cycle.

Yes it's out of cycle.

You chat with Setharus for a while and examine the various strange things that fill the room as hundred of bees "fan" the ink on the page. After a half an hour of this treatment, Setharus decides the map is ready and he offers it to you in a neatly rolled case.

As you are leaving you reflect that the whole experience was rather surreal, and you begin the trek back to Lower Merx. With your thoughts elsewhere, it takes a moment before you realize that the previously crowded streets are empty. You get a sense that something must be amiss. You look around carefully and notice a large figure at the end of the next block. A smaller figure hovers near it's head and points at you shouting "There! He was in the tower! Get him!"

We'll use this map as the one of the battle.

The opponent is Large Size, Humanoid in shape, wears hide armor and has a big club. He's CR7, I'm sure you can connect the dots.

I'll run the battle when I get back home Sunday night.

Lemminkäinen sees the hulking brute on the far side of the marketplace. He grasps a small stone from his belt and concentrates on it. The green light inside the stone fades and he tosses it away. He grins as he sees his lance covered with black, faintly hissing substance. He calls Ukko for strength as the hulking brute starts to approach and tightens his grip on the lance. The brute is surprisingly fast, but Lemminkäinen hopes to catch it by surprise. He quickly guides Firesoul to circle around the buildings and at the same time concentrates on the ability that is the reason he is on this mission on the first place. A shimmering shield forms in front of him. He comes from behind the building and digs his heels to the sides of Firesoul, lowering his lance and pointing it straight towards the brute...

Powerstone of dissolving weapon on lance. Bull's strength and force screen. Move around the buildings to get some time. Charge+smite+psionic weapon+dissolving weapon (+13 to hit for 10d6+20). After that bestow curse defensively for -6 CON. If that doesn't do it, inflict serious wounds unless I am badly wounded at that point. If that is the case, retreat and convert a cure serious wounds. Gain psionic focus and charge+psionic weapon. Don't forget to ride for cover or cast defensively. Firesoul should also attack if it has a chance to do that.

With a bellowing Roar the brute charges toward you...

Lemminkäinen swiftly reacts to the new threat and draws a stone and manifests from it as he guides his mount down the street to the south.

The brute comes around the corner and nearly catches up to your before you spur your mount and duck around the next corner as you manifest Force Screen.

Your mount's faster movement opens up some distance that he attempts to close. You prepare yourself by calling on the strength of your patron god and ready your weapon as your mount wheels around at the end of the marketplace.

The brute comes around the corner and you lock eyes calling out on your god to smite this brute as your mount charges. Your god smiles on you, and the lance pierces the thick hides of the brute's armor. He howls in pain as the combined energies ravage his body (55hp). The brute brings his club down on your shoulder and causes some serious pain (23hp).

You bob and dodge as you cast a spell then reach out to touch the attacker. His eyes glaze over for a moment as his body withers into a weakened state. (-6 con -> 36hp). He begins to raise his club for another blow, and then you sturdy mount rears up and plants a hard blow on his forehead with an iron shod hoof. He falls like a stone.

Lemminkäinen takes a moment to shove the lance through the throat of the fallen brute, making sure that it stays dead. It wasn't the first time he fought one of his ancestor's barbaric cousins and didn't want to make the mistake of only thinking that the giant was dead. He spits on the corpse and curses it. That brute was no match for a descendant of the feared fire giants.

He then turns his horse and gallops through the now empty marketplace, hoping to catch the smaller figure that commanded the giant. He has the map, but he doesn't want to let that hovering creature escape. He has already made a lot of enemies on his path and doesn't want to leave one more behind him. Better dead than lurking in the shadows, ready to stab me in the back...

There's a slight mistake in the rewards. It should be 1785 xp and 2210 gp because of the CR3 horse (15% penalty).
