| The Magister04-28-04, 12:37 PM | Part of the mission of this guild is to enhance the knowledge of spellcasting for its members. | Guild Master04-28-04, 08:36 PM | Important Notes and News: |
| Caterane04-29-04, 08:42 AM | Just as the newly built Wizards Guild opened their doors, a man dressed in a lecturers outfit entered the magnificently decorated rooms. Of course, the Magister recognized him at once for he had studied together with the lecturer many years ago. After a short discussion with him Professor Vandaeris Dre'Dandrahl was a member of the guild. The first thing he did was entering the library where he met another wizard, sitting over a book "Ahaha *strangelaughther*, Mr. Telloran, a pleasure to meet you again. I am glad to see that you persue the Art though I am sure such a thing comes natural to your people." While speaking the professor went to a book shelf and drew a blackbound book with the title 'Advanced anatomy'. "If I may suggest a good tome you might want to pick up this one. I wrote it myself some time ago, and if you are interested you might even come to one of my lectures." Professor Vandaeris Dre'Dandrahl (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&perpage=1&postid=2726051#post2726051) - lecturer at the University, Faculty of Dargenfest Hall (Necromancy) enters the Guild. |
| Myrridin04-29-04, 08:49 AM | Zephin sees his first new comer enter the hall of the Brotherhood, "Welcome professor, a man of your knowledge is always welcome in a place such as this." He then strides down the hallway to the offical records of the guild, "Magister, if you wouldn't mind registering this new member, we would be honored." |
| Caterane04-29-04, 09:09 AM | "May I suggest that we reconfigurate the titles? Though I hope I will not offend anyone but I do not want to be titled as an adept, nor a witch." The professor drew a pencil and scibbled something on a piece of paper... 05 - 06: Initiate 07 - 11: Mage 12 - 16: Magus 17 - 20: High Magus While the lecturer apparently thinks about new titles, Zephin walks over to him and looks on the paper. "In my opinion thaumaturgist and archmage could be confused with the professions, so we should find others. My suggestions are based on the Roster of the gladiators where the same arragement appears. But please, Mr.Telloran, if you have anything to add I would appreciate if you would share your wisdom with me." |
| Myrridin04-29-04, 09:15 AM | Zephin studies the scrap of paper for a moment, then claps a hand on the Professor's shoulder, "Excellent idea. I was striving for some sense of prestige in the art of the arcane, and I believe that will fit the bill nicely." He sips a scotch that appeared at his hand, "Magister, I believe we have another, small, task for you." |
| The Magister04-29-04, 09:20 AM | A hobbled old man hobbles into the hall way, looks at the two members of the fledgling Brotherhood and whispers, "It is done." |
| Caterane04-29-04, 09:26 AM | "Ah, Mr.Magister, while you are here I would also suggest that we put the titles in [parenthesis] behind the name and out of the link so that it is easier to recognize as such. Also, it might be confusing with my own title of professor. Just a suggestion, of course." |
| Myrridin05-04-04, 03:19 PM | Zephin walks in and looks around a little, "I wonder what we have to do to get people to join? We are the only arcane guild in the city, and we offer the best site for researching magical knowledge." I walk around the library, trailing my fingers down some books, pausing at a tome, "Biophysical Mechanics applied to Magical Learning", by a certain Professor. *sigh* "Well, hopefully wizards will see the missive, and join in sharing our arcane knowledge." |
| Market_Share05-05-04, 12:00 PM | "I live to destroy all that is organized. All whom consider themselves wizards. Every scrap of those from these hallowed halls that consider themselves wizards (guffa) shall perish by my pale hands." Pale-Rider sends a blast of energy toward the arcane asylum and finds his magic is rebuffed. "Hmmm...there will come a day when you must leave your sanctuary. There will come a day when you must face a REAL wizard to be called wizards. Only death will convince you of that. STEP OUT!!! and challenge me!" Pale-Rider, From Svenn Enno "I wonder if thee would consider my application into this guild. Strength in numbers is what i say. Svenn Enno, |
| Caterane05-05-04, 12:10 PM | "Ahahaha, Mr.Palerider, a pleasure to meet you again. Why so offensive when there is so much to gain here. Come and subscribe to the guild, and we are going to build another golem together, like the last time we did Hahahaha, perhaps this time it won`t attack you." |
| Myrridin05-05-04, 12:11 PM | Zephin walks to the door and opens it, "Pale-Rider, you are a disgrace to wizards everywhere. We desire a place to freely exchange knowledge, and you would deny us that. Until you realize that your actions are hubris of the highest order our doors are closed." he shuts the door and it rings with a hollow boom. Zephin turns and walks a few steps to their newest applicant, "Welcome to the Brotherhood of the Arcane Order, Svenn Enno. It is a pleasure to welcome another member." he holds out his hand to shake hands. |
| The Magister05-05-04, 12:16 PM | The old man hobbles into the corridor where the members have gathered, "Welcome Svenn." he turns towards the doors, "It is too bad that Pale-Rider has choosen to not join with us. Perhaps in time we can sway his thinking. He has much knowledge he could share." The Magister walks slowly away from the people standing in the halls. |
| Caterane05-05-04, 12:16 PM | Mr Magister, with Mr.Enno joining our guild we fulfill our prerequisites. Why not add a magical link to the guild registry and be done with the violation flag infront of our door? |
| The Magister05-05-04, 08:31 PM | "The Brotherhood is almost ready. All Zephin or Svenn need to do is win a fight. Then our power will be sufficient to announce ourselves to the rest of them." an aged voice whispers through the halls. |
| Caterane05-06-04, 09:01 AM | "Au contraire, Mr.Magister. Unless you establish the magical link to the Guild Registry no amount of victories will free you of the violation. If you need any help therein, just ask me." |
| The Magister05-06-04, 10:57 AM | The old man hobbles up to the Professor, "Thank you for your assistance Professor; I would have expected no less from one as learned as you." |
| Sindorin07-15-04, 08:04 PM | The Evoker Tair Malek, scarred and tatooed, and hailing from his brother Torn's time-compressed plane, entered the great halls of the Brotherhood. I seek the one known as The Magister, for I wish to share my knowledge and benefit from others who study "The Art". Tair Malek (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&perpage=1&postid=3330034#post3330034) |
| Sindorin07-20-04, 07:44 PM | After looking around and waiting for several minutes, Tair vanished, and the door opened and was closed. Closed, Tair thought, for what seems to be an eternity... His voice had echoed through those halls back at him with apathy. "It seems that there is no longer an interest in brotherhood of the arcane." he thought to himself. |
| The Magister07-23-04, 07:40 AM | The old man appeared in his chamber, sensing an unfamiliar signature remaining within the halls of The Brotherhood. He reached out to the signature, and then casted Sending. "I am sorry for my absence during your appearance here. Please return, for we have much to discuss." |
| Sindorin07-23-04, 07:49 AM | Tair Malek was preparing himself for battle with Ernie the Great when a message arrived from The Magister. He left his books, went out from the inn, pointed at the sky, and spoke, "Flaretisca!" sending a tongue of bright flame into the sky (Flare) and then he muttered some more words (prestidigitation). He now shaped the light illuminating the night sky into a message: "I AcCePt." |
| Myrridin07-23-04, 09:39 AM | Zephin enters, and wistfully dusts off some of the spellbooks stored there, "It has been a long time since I set foot in these halls. It is good to see them occupied again." with a smile, he sets off to the pantry, to partake of some of the fine elven wine. |
| The Magister07-23-04, 11:46 AM | "Ah, Zephin, it is good to see you again. Pour me one please while we wait for the others return, and tell me of your adventures during my absence" |
| Caterane07-26-04, 01:05 PM | "Ah, we have a new magister. A pleasure to meet you A-HA-A-HA-A-HA (*strange laugh*) I hope our old magister returns sooner or later; this time of inactivity was most disturbing. Anyway, if I may help you in any way, please feel free to ask me. Oh, and Mr.Magister, it is just a minor thing but in case you are wondering about the empty shelves I thought I should mention that since I was the only one around here I was so free to hire some assistants and moved the necromancy section of our library to the faculty of Dargenfest Hall - for saveties sake of course. Or was it necromancy and illusion? Who knows A-HA-A-HA-A-HA So, if you excuse me now, I have to leave now to complete my studies - the dissection of a duergar, most interesting topic if you ask me! Have a nice day, Mr.Magister A-HA-A-HA-A-HA " |
| Sindorin07-31-04, 08:37 PM | Tair walked into the chamber where Vandaeris and the Magister stood discussing various aspects of the city, and surrounding plane. He regarded the professor as if the professor creeped him out. He spoke to them both: "I am investigating the one known as Evram the Soulless. Would any of you have any information regarding his problem? " The Magister smiled and pointed over to a library desk whereupon a book lay. "Ah, thank you. It'll only take me but an hour, then I'll be off." |
| The Magister10-11-04, 11:35 AM | The Brotherhood will be called to order. First order of business: I have been informed recently that there is ongoing debate about how great we wizards are. Sadly, though, both sides of this debate feel that it is necessary to limit our power instead of boosting those they favor. Next: Professor Vandaeris Dre'Dandrahl is leading the race to twentieth level. Personally, even with the possible limitations that may be imposed, I believe he will win easily. Lastly, we must increase our membership. I have watched many young faces fighting in the arena using spells much like ours. Hopefully they can be recruited to our chapter. Meeting adjourned. |
| Sindorin10-18-04, 11:57 AM | Tair Malek walked in and handed a piece of paper to the Magister, who sat in a velvet chair in front of the fire. "Decimus Olorin, sir, a white wizard. He has applied to join the Brotherhood." |
| The Magister01-16-05, 08:18 PM | As the magister sat with his hands folded in front of his face in an arcane trance, the fire crackled in the fireplace before him, sparks flying from the embers out into the halls from his private chamber. The magister had been baffled by the sudden appearance of the Harvester towards the conclusion of the epic race. He had hoped that glory could be restored to the brotherhood by having one of their members be the first to attain a certain god-like status... known as epic. Days passed, nights fell and rose once again, and still the halls grew in thickness of dust. Glory... had not come. Instead, the age ended with treachery, and the destruction of the chapter building... and his own demise. But wise Magister was better than simple defeat. Wise Magister always has tricks. Yes... evil music |
| Sindorin01-16-05, 09:24 PM | A cloaked figure walked up behind the large ornate chair that the Magister was sitting upon. The bumps of two small horns could be seen at the top of his hood. "I hear that you are the one heading the... Brotherhood..." "Welcome back. Did you get the papers I sought?" the magister asked in response to the tiefling's statement. "Yes, they are right here," he said as he withdrew a tied envelope and handed it to the person sitting in the chair. The magister took a moment to read through the information in the parchment that the envelope had contained. "Very interesting... many new wizards among them..." he paused for a brief moment. "...some powerful, some who simply need a chance. Post these notices in local taverns, so perhaps we may increase our numbers and become a force once again..." he handed the tiefling several parchments he had conjured and scribed earlier. "As you wish, sir," the tiefling spoke, turned, and began walking out. As he neared the entrance to the Magister's chamber he stopped and turned. "Has there been any word of my sister's ship?" "None. Nor am I able to sense anything. It is like they have disappeared. If I learn anything, I will notify you," the Magister replied. "Thank you, sir. I will get these out as you wish." With that, the tiefling bowed and exited the halls of the Brotherhood of the Arcane Order.; |
| Sindorin01-17-05, 03:10 AM | The cloaked figure returns to The Magister's antechamber, but no one is to be found. "My servant returns...," a voice can be heard echoing, yet silent as a whisper, addressing the reveler. "It is done, as you said it would be, m'Lord. What is it that you bid me to next?" the Tiefling asks, bowing low, a bit slow in manner, though tis questionable whether it comes of age or respect and care. "You may do as you wish until next I call upon you, Lord Shin'mor." "You will tell me then when word comes of my daughter?" Lord Shin'mor looks around, a curious look in his eyes, as if physically pondering what spells the Magister is practicing. Silence is the only party that greets his curiousity... until... BEGONE!!! |
| SoulLord06-17-05, 11:44 AM | An elven figure with a hawk perched on his shoulder approaches the steps. Vandelar the red requests an audience with whoever runs this place!. |
| The Magister06-17-05, 03:29 PM | At Vandalar's words, several torches mounted on the walls ignite, and a figure appears in front of him. "Yes?" an older man with a cheerful voice replies to him. "You wish an audience with the proprietor here at our humble Order? What is it that you wish to discuss?" |
| SoulLord06-17-05, 03:38 PM | I have heard that this place has many powerful wizards, who might share their knowledage with promising students. I am seeking an audience to see if this honorable place has room for me. at this Vandelar bows slightly as a sign of respect |
| The Magister06-17-05, 03:47 PM | "Oh, very good, very good. A respectable necromancer, I don't believe I've ever encounter such, unless you count the Professor... creepy fellow. Yes, you are welcome to study with us. Sadly, we have recently had to relocate due to the reign of Angosh and his eventual defeat by The Harvester - the battle was of such scope that our chapter house was destroyed and many of our members perished. I am still working on the enchantments which protected our previous building. It is... a work in progress. Will you join me for tea?" |
| SoulLord06-17-05, 03:54 PM | I would be honored to do so mr?.... Vandelar was surprised by the news this was supposed to be the most powerful league of magic users in all of gladius. but perhaps it was for the best as it seemed there were less aspiring students than he thought at first |
| The Magister06-17-05, 04:05 PM | "My pupils all know me as The Magister. Come, I have a brew ready" he leads Vandelar to a large room that seems to be some sort of dining hall, with many tables in long rows. There are a few wizards milling about the room talking to each other in strange tongues, and all notice the Magister as he walks in. There is a long table meant for administration at the far end of the hall. With a wave of his hand as they approach, two ivory cups of hot tea appear. "Help yourself. The conjuration is designed so that the drinker experiences the desired amount of sweetness. It is one of my secrets that I tell only my closest friends." He sits at the head chair at the middle of the table. |
| SoulLord06-17-05, 04:33 PM | Vandelar took a seat and pondered on the spell as he sipped on his tea. Interesting indeed I can see many applications of similar spells that take into account divination like this. But please do tell what does the league offer his affiliates now?, I hope it is more than just a social club. |
| The Magister06-18-05, 05:39 AM | "Our order offers whatever you wish to know." There is a gleam in the Magister's eye that catches Vandelar's eye and makes him feel uncomfortable. |
| SoulLord06-18-05, 10:50 AM | there was something in the offer... or the way it was uttered that sent chills down his spine, but his apetite for magical knowledage was bigger than the words of caution his conscience tried to utter. I wish to know many things, but let us start with the simple things. Spells my spellbook yearns to be filled with knowledage, is there a library where a member could add to his spellbook worthy and perhaps unheard of spells? |
| The Magister06-18-05, 09:55 PM | "Mmmm... spells... oh, um, yes? Why of course, I know lots of spells, but I have found that any spell that I create myself will not work outside of this building because of the nimbus. The spell that caused this was a spell that I made that negates the effects of the nimbus - it required a unique component, one that I doubt could ever be found or duplicated. The end result is the fact that this is the only building in Gladius where the nimbus will not help you. If you die by accident, though, say, while you are studying, all someone needs to do is take you outside and you will be revived. Other than this, I prefer to watch over pupils carefully if they are researching new spells... The library is upstairs to your left." |
| SoulLord06-18-05, 10:21 PM | Interesting I imagine that if I were to die while in this building someone would be kind enough to take me outside to be healed, instead of using me as an undead spawn to do their chores.. Valderans eyes lighted up at the mention of the library, he imagined it full of all the spells he yearned to know. With your permission I would like very much to spend some time at this library to copy some spells into my spellbook. |
| Sindorin06-18-05, 10:30 PM | Eek, wrong account |
| The Magister06-18-05, 10:33 PM | "Help yourself then! That is what we are here for!" With that, the Magister teleports elsewhere, and judging by the lack thereof in terms of reactions, this action by the Magister is likely commonplace. |
| SoulLord06-19-05, 01:07 AM | Vandelar hastily moves toward the before mentioned library thinking there must be a catch somewhere as usually access to the spellbooks is not as easily granted, but as long as the possibility was open he would take it. This would save him several hundred gold pieces that he would have otherwise to pay |
| The Magister06-19-05, 03:25 PM | As Vandelar enters the main chamber of the library, he is greeted by a large sign which reads: "Due to the lack of membership fees within the Brotherhood of the Arcane Order, a fee of 100 gp per spell level scribed into your spellbook will be applied. Have a nice day." |
| Caterane06-19-05, 04:06 PM | "A-hahaha, but Mr.Vandelar, I have a much better offer for you. You can copy spells from my spellbook for only 50 gp per spell level, plus of course the 100 gp per page raw materials you need. And I have a special offer for 1st level spells! Here's a list of what you have to pay altogether per spell scribed into your book: Spell Level 1: 125 gp 2: 300 gp 3: 450 gp 4: 600 gp I can also give you the price for higher level spells but *sniffsniff* from what I scent is in your component pouch, you don't have any use for them now A-HAHAHA |
| SoulLord06-19-05, 11:13 PM | Vandelar could not believe his eyes as he saw the sign above him almost mocking him. What good is this place then he thought to himself. He had spent all the money he cared to spend on spells already, perhaps he would need to go to the colliseum he had heard that for wizards of his skills the pay was good even if he lost. Vandelar searched for one of the members before asking. My good sir could you please tell me the benefits of belonguing to this fine establishment? |
| SoulLord06-22-05, 01:17 PM | well it seems it's my turn to go to the arena I'll be back later. With this vandelar walks out of the building towards the arena. |
| SoulLord06-28-05, 07:30 PM | Vandelar again returned to the room where the other wizard's were trading spells he was very excited about the latest outcome of his fight and longed to talk to the master of the house, but he appeared to be nowhere in sight. Not thinking about it much he started to scribe some scrolls for future use and to pay up for some spells he thought would be of use to him. |
| Caterane07-02-05, 02:32 PM | "Ah Mr.Vandelar, good to see you back. To answer your question, after the Year of Hell, all Guilds fell and lost their power, most of them striving to maintain themselves, repairing the damage, or just keeping a low profile" the lecturer of Dargenfest Hall said. Then he leaned closer "But I have heard rumors that the Guilds are planning a big comeback! Yes, with their hands in all kind of activities and poilitics, and having an impact on many everyday's life situations. Many will join us or the other guilds; I'm sure that will lead to a strife for supremacy and we hope the Brotherhood can emerge victorious. But for now and until then, we're just chatting a bit." |
| Vathelokai07-15-05, 01:58 PM | The front door to the guild house of the Arcane Order had not quite latched all the way. It was as though someone had left in a hurry, or someone was expected. Denshi (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6667770&postcount=342) stood in the street for a long time staring at the soft light that flickered between the double doors. Maybe it was nerves (his first fight in the arena was up comming), Maybe it was lonelyness, or even idle curriousity; Denshi slipped through the threshold, his grey cat padding softly behind him. No one was in the greeting chamber, though he heard footsteps echoing in the halls. From his pocket he pulled a scrap of paper he had found nailed to a shop front in the seedier end of town. "Those who have mastered the 2nd circle of magical power are welcome." The silver haired elf walked across the chamber to the desk. He picked up the enchanted pen, crossed out the phrase, and signed his name at the bottom of the advertisement. He left the paper on the desk. He took his time wandering the great hall, running his fingers along the walls, fondling the statuettes in their nooks, tracing the scars in the stones. He spent hours contemplating arches, molding, and the carvings of doorframes. Thinking about how to rebuild the guild hall into a single piece of art (instead of a quilt of magicaly mended stones) helped him get his mind away from the half giant waiting for him in the arena. But, all too soon, the time came to go. Denshi reflected, as he walked to the door, that he would die for the first time today. "For the First time," he mumbled to himself. As he left, he wondered if the Arcane Order's halls would look the same when he returned. |
| SoulLord07-15-05, 02:10 PM | It is good to see you again Master. what can we do to make this place prosper again? I am willing to do my share to restore this place to it's former glory The experience in the arena had been good for Vandelar as he had the chance to increase his arcane expertise. but still he longed for more |
| Vathelokai07-15-05, 02:40 PM | There is a thump at the door, as though someone hit it with their chest instead of their knuckles. The door slowly opens and Denshi slides through, forgetting to pull it closed behind himself. A silver cat slides in behind him. He stands rubbing a bloodstained patch on his tunic, before realizing there is someone in the chamber. You...You're not the Magister. You're Vandelar the Red. I saw you at the arena today. |
| SoulLord07-15-05, 02:47 PM | Good day to you. Indeed I am Vandelar the red. Vandelar bows sligthly in courtesy never taking his eyes off the newcomer. And you are? |
| Vathelokai07-15-05, 03:49 PM | Alive...I mean Denshi. Sorry, the fight has me rattled...my manners... The grey elf bows. He looks around for a moment, distracted. So, this is the guild hall. What is here other then the library? Are there ammenities? Staying at inns has crimped my finances. |
| SoulLord07-15-05, 04:06 PM | I do believe there are room here but as a place of study I don't think you'll find many amoenitas. You mentioned a fight, I assume you went looking for riches into the colliseum? If so I do believe they offer excelent rewards even to those who lose. and if this is the case why are you short on money? Vandelar was genuinely interested the Magister seemed to be lost in his thoughts and sharing experiences in the colliseum with a fellow wizard seemed very interesting. |
| Vathelokai07-15-05, 05:10 PM | That money is for my crafts! Denshi shouts defensively, his voice echoing in the near empty hall. He stammers a bit, comming back to awareness of his somber surroundings. I thought, I guess this place was some sort of hostel in addition to a study hall. I see I was mistaken. Also I was considering doing some work here. This building looks as though a fierce battle was fought inside. The pillars chipped, the floors... well you get the idea. Some one has cast spells of mending, but if you look close you can see the signs...See over here? Definitely not hand crafted. The grey elf slumps a bit, feeling that his love for fine sculpture is not mutual with Vandelar. Denshi walks over near the fireplace and lowers himself into an overstuffed chair. I've heard of you. People say you killed a man with a swarm of spiders. Seems abit gruesome...but then, this whole business of fighting for money is. Yes I went to my first fight today. I'd rather not speak of it. I still havn't sorted it all out in my mind. Have you been fighting long? |
| SoulLord07-15-05, 06:42 PM | Vandelar remained impassive at the outburst yet he seemed a bit dissapointed that Denshi would not share his experiences in the arena. Not much, I have only been here for a month but I have found that the arena is an excelent place to practice my arcane arts. The spiders seemed like a good idea at the time unfortunately it's not a tactic that can be used at all times as gladiators hear about it will be prepared for it next time. Also the rewards merit the risks, the gold we get in the fights would be hard to come by doing any craft. |
| Vathelokai07-15-05, 06:57 PM | True, true. I came for the money myself. Denshi looks around nervously until he spots his cat, who is snooping under the magisters desk. Are there official meetings of this guild. I get the impression that people just come and go. Real lack of organization, seems like...but I'm being rude. I suppose that what I am getting at is, Is there a way to present myself, officially. I have been on the road many years and it is always nice to find a brotherhood, a sanctuary if you will. |
| Vathelokai07-16-05, 01:07 PM | The grey elf looks over at the magister and nods in response to a whispered message only the elf can hear. Denshi and Vandelar stare at each other in silence for long minutes. Denshi finally clears his throat, and begins speaking slowly, "I didn't know what to expect when I signed up at the arena. When the notices were posted I was contacted by message that I was paired against a monster. A half giant. I asked around, trying not to show my apprehention. People said he was an orphan, that he wrestled people in bars for fun. Rumor had it that he had killed before, outside the arena, in anger or for vengence. Rumors..." Denshi's mutterings become indecipherable. He stares off into space, looking confused. He notices Vandelar's expression which spurs him back to conversation. "I went and found Ormos, the giant, so I could size him up. My head reached his shoulders. One of his eyes seemed stuck with a look of hate, the other searched around for anyone willing to fight him. I thought about leaving this place. I knew I couldn't fight him and win. But I went to arena anyway. When I was teleported to the floor I hid, cast my protections and waited for him to come to me. He came running and it occured to me; He is not an elf, he sleeps like all the lesser races. I drew my scroll and cast the spell. His eyes drooped, loosing that look of menace. He pulled out a potion, it was red and bubbly, and he drank it. He grinned at me then and flexed his muscles. I didn't recognize the potion, but I knew what it must be doing inside of him. That was a long moment, that one." Denshi looks around and sees a steaming cup of tea appear on the table beside his chair. He smiles at the enchantment on this building and nods again to the magister. The grey elf picks up the cup and spends long moments staring at the etching on the mug, tracing it with his fingers. Vandelar, coughs to clear his throat, and Denshi looks back at the necromancer's excited look. "This ones a warrior," Denshi thought, "only interested in battle." Denshi continues, keeping eye contact with Vandelar, but his fingers keep tracing the fine etchings on the cup. "The only thing I could think to do was to charge him. I was raised by a weapon smith and I know a thing or two about how to fight. So, I drew my morningstar and hit him. I could see blood, but it was as if the giant didn't care. He drank another potion, I recognized it as armor, and scoffed at me. I hit him again and he fled. I thought 'He'll back away, use that crossbow, hanging from his belt.' So, I cast a spell, a green bolt of energy and he was knocked flat. The light faded in his eyes, I knew he was dead. But he kept moving! Somehow he pulled another potion, though he could barely move his arms for the strain. I was stunned; there was no way. I though maybe it was something in his blood, some heritage, pure anger in his soul; something..." Denshi finishes his tea and places the cup back on the table, where it disappears. He pauses. His elvens sense of time takes over and he spends minutes staring at a single pillar holding up the cealing, carved to look like a pillar of flames. Vandelar finally interupts, "Well, then what? What did you do to him then? Denshi refocuses his attention, looking sad and perplexed. "I panicked. I grabbed a bottle of fire, I bottle them myself you know, and I threw it at him. It shattered and engulfed him in flames. I thought, 'that must do it,' but he got up and ran at me, still burning. He jumped on me and singed my clothes and hair, and slammed me against a rock. It knocked the wind out of me and my sight left me for a moment. He must have knocked my head against a sharp corner, for I could feel the blood running down my neck. I screamed and kicked my legs over and over, since the were the only limbs free. He seemed to let go of me, I couldn't have knocked him off with his strength, and he fell back. The giant drank another potion, while the flames still covered him. I threw another bottle of fire but I missed. I was too shaken by the smell of burt giant flesh to concentrate; It made me ill. He ran at me again, lunging over and over. I knocked him away with my morningstar for a time, but he kept comming. Finally I slipped, and he dove on top of me, pinning me to the ground with his enormous weight. It was hopeless. Taikutsu tried, I give him all credit for that. I saw the giant after the fight. It was hard to tell, he's covered in scars head to foot, but his entire back was covered in red cat scratches. I was crushed and overcome with the smell, and then I woke up. A strange sensation that was, having never slept before. The humans that woke me seemed to think nothing of it. They said, 'it's like waking from a nightmare.' I'd heard of such things, but didn't know it was quite like that. Denshi examines the wry look on Vandelar's face, expecting some warrior's boast; "I would have done this, He couldn't have done that to me." The grey elf sighs. "I suppose it is better this way. I wasn't sure if I could trust this nimbus of yours. I watched last weeks fights, so I saw with my eyes what it did. Still, I felt nervous, despite knowing. If I would have won, I would have gone to the next fight richer, but still unprepared. How do you prepare yourself to die? Perhaps that's a question for monks or clerics. Or, I suppose, gladiators. |
| SoulLord07-16-05, 10:48 PM | I can see that clearly that giant is a dangerous enemy I'll have to take it into account if i ever face him in the arena. One thing I'm very curious about. as all of us elves we have certain training in the sword and bow but you indicated that you had much more training in the warrior arts. Why was this? what motivated you to choose that path? As for the question of death. I don't think im ready for it yet and I hope I never get to face her. I have a fight today with a priest by what I heard she has a horse and recently aquired a bat. it will be a tough fight as my usual strategy for the swarm is somewhat innefective due to her superior movement. I'm planning to ..... Vandelar stopped revealing his strategy to a future oponent was not wyse but he showed interest to belong to the guild, and as a courtesy he proceeded. Use the scorching ray with some shocking graps. with some luck i'll be able to eliminate her before she eliminates me. I think the real power in gladius are the merhant guilds. Think of it all of your warez must be sold to guild members at half the market price. and everything you buy must come from their approved inventory list. Vandekar leaned in closer and almost whispered There are other way's though. Have you heard of the black market of Gladius? Word says that with the right contacts you can get almost anything...... And I don't mean the posions in the market i mean real objects of power often customized. Or the permits to craft such items and use them in the arena. A wand of summon swarm no problem if you know the right people. But alas I have speaken too much. Tell me from where do you come from? |
| Vathelokai07-17-05, 12:07 PM | Denshi looks perplexed. "Black market. What could make a market black? Do the merchants have darkness cast in their tents? Is this one of those human phrases that translates so badly. It could be nothing else I suppose. Ah yes, those merchants have it made. It was part of what drew me here, to Gladius. If I could get in on that type of operation..." Denshi's eyes list dreamily as images of enchanted towers, clockwork castles, mystical contraptions dance across his mind. Images begin floating around him, summoned by the magic of the guildhall. The grey elf begins slipping off into reverie, but soon the images fade and he pulls himself back to the conversation reluctantly. "What were we talking about again? "Oh, yes. You won't be ready for death when it comes. Few are." Denshi reaches over to the end table where a basket of fruit, perhaps left by a dancing golem, waits for him. He grabs two pieces, passing one to Vandelar. The necromancer, takes the fruit gratefully. Denshi seems unaware of the way Vandelar was rolling his eyes moments before. "Actually, we were talking about where you come from; how you learned to wield weapons the way you do." Denshi is carried away by the moment and rambles off a story he would otherwise avoid. "It was my father's fault, really. He was a weaponsmith, a mage crafter, and he spent most of his years traveling and bartering and crafting. When I blessed his household, it was quite the inconvienience. I was moved around a lot, staying with this friend, that customer, those relatives. Years later it was that wizard, those craftsmen, these employers. Long story told short, I was apprenticed off to a book keeper. We never quite got along so when he caught me with a pile of scrolls, I had copied them over the years from his store house, he took the opportunity to hand me back over to my father. That's when I was left for good in the forge. I spent the next decades hammering out metal, mending pots, sharpening knives. I had the knack, though. I have no idea where from, since my father took no part in my education. Anyway, I advanced, quickly, to make the weapons us elves are so known for. You may have been trained with a weapon I crafted. Do you recognize this seal?" Denshi pulls aside his blood stained tunic. Below, shiny and slippery as mercury, is chain liks of mithral. At the bottom, a border of leaf shaped plates funtions as a seam. Delicately etched, it might be mistaken for the veins on the leaf, is the seal of Denshi's house, repeated on every leaf. "They are well known by those who value the finest. "As for my training...I wouldn't call it that. When you craft weapons, you must handle weapons, test them. In the same way as magic, you could not learn to craft a fine wand if you are unsure how wands are used. You cannot make a proper sword unless you know how they should balance, or how long the blade should be. So, I would spend seasons practicing manouvers, seasons just walking with the sword in the sheath. I would talk with soldiers about what a perfect shield would feel like in the hand and then I would try to create it." |
| SoulLord07-17-05, 09:21 PM | Interesting. I have to say though that if I like to stay far away from battle that should be left for the expert warriors and the like. but I see you are inclined to follow both paths. won't this be dangerous in the long run? if you take the time it takes you to train the warrior path and the arcane path compared to one that trains only in his craft, it would take you more time to reach the same level of expertise as one who trains only in his respective field. For instance you and I seem to be of similar age and even though I won't be able to match your warrior expertise I have the feeling I'm more experienced in the arcane path. Or take the giant you just faced it seems to me that he has dedicated all of his training to the warrior path.... and it seems to have paid off. Vandelar Joined in eating of the fruit as he listened. |
| Vathelokai07-18-05, 05:23 AM | "That thing that just defeated me in the arena didn't beat me with skill, it beat me with persistance. Where any normal creature would have died, consumed by flames, he kept moving. There is no training for that, only the light in the soul." Denshi picks another piece of fruit from the basket. Instead of eating it immidiately, he rolls it in his hand, searching for imperfections. "As far as skills go, you are vastly my superior at the arcane arts. Due to the inclinations of my community, I was not trusted to study with the mages. I am not even skilled enough to be a member of this guild, though the magister allows my presence. However, mastering one skill does not make one great." The craftsman gets up to stretch and begins pacing in front of the fire. "I am not a warrior, nor do I intend to master their arts. I am mearly skilled enough in the basics; I can fall back on such things to defend myself when my magic is not enough. And with the rules of the arena as they are, I may run out of magic faster then I would like. No, I will probably never be an archmage either, you are right about that. But my path is fullfilling to me; the things I will create will outlast most mages. I am not headed down the warrior path or the wizard path. I think it best to create my own path; I am a craftsman in my soul." |
| SoulLord07-18-05, 11:32 AM | Vandelar considered the answer, the elf had passion about his craft, no doubt that in time he would be able to craft many wonderful things. I plan to return to my people once I get enough experience and gold in this place so that I can deal with some situations back at home. But I guess that's what all of us say, just one more fight so I can get the gold to buy this, or just a couple more until I understand enough to acces the third circle. The truth is this fights are addictive. The thrill of the fight, the roars of the crowd the uncertainty of who your next opponent will be. And of course the gold..... the more experienced a gladiator is the bigger the purse he can pursue. So do you have any plans to return home soon? |
| Vathelokai07-18-05, 12:24 PM | "they would rather not have me back home. I have a reputation for spending time with the lesser races. And working at their crafts guild, well, they appreciate no one but the most senior member. There really isn't much for me back in the forest. Some old friends I might visit some year, but that's all. "What about yourself? I've been going on for hours about my life. What is this pressing situation back home that requires a mighty necromancer to resolve? You say your not ready for death, yet you continue to fight in the arena. You have proven your skills with your victories, but don't you think it a matter of time before your bested? Speaking of which, didn't you say you had a battle to attend? |
| SoulLord07-18-05, 12:58 PM | Indeed as a necromancer I deal with the sphere of death but that does not mean I look forward for it's embrace. If it happens as it will eventually to all of us I'd rather it happened here where the Magic of the gladius will restore me fully. rather than in some forgotten forest where I won't be able to escape it. As for the pressing situation all of us elves will have to be ready when the time comes as our skill in sword and spell will be required to defend our race. Maybe not today nor next year but soon by elven standards. you say that you were shunned by associating with non elves, I too have associated with them in the past, mainly by nessesity to learn that which is not taught at our schools of magic. Things they would consider an abomination to our race. Vandelar Showed the tatoo that was part of him. A Red wizard by the name of Galdenak gave it to me as a sign of my apprenticeship with him. Some would consider it an offense to be tatooed as such by a human. But the rewards justify it. |
| Vathelokai07-18-05, 03:26 PM | "A threat to the elven race? Have I been amoung the dwarves for so long? I hadn't heard a word of it. Not that I'm supprised, you know. No one that's ever lived a full life has not seen a war or two." Denshi sits back down and waits for Vandelar to finish speaking. He eyes the tatoo with a quizical look. "I've never heard of these Red Wizard's, nor have I seen their symbol. Tell me, is it an order, or a guild, or is being Red simply a credo, a way of life?" Denshi sits back looking calm and interested, hiding his curriousity about the red wizards. Though he is fiercly interested, he knows enough about the world of wizards not to pry into the affairs fo secret organizations. |
| SoulLord07-18-05, 03:44 PM | They are an organization of Magic users all of them are human and it seems most of them think they are the superior race. It amused my master to no end to have me as his pupil back in his lands he would not have been allowed to take me as his apprentice. Perhaps he did it just to spite them. nevertheless He's the only person in here that I know that has th ability to create this magical tatoos. I'm sure he can be bribed or persuaded to share his gift if not the process of how to create them. As for the war it has been foretold first the great elven retreat that has stopped in some places already a sign of the times to come where elves must take sword and spellbook to defend the race. Besides better to be prepared early than to be caught off guard late.. that's a little something i have learned from the humans... Vandelar seemed to concentrate as if trying to remember something. It seems my turn is not up yet, But I may have to take off in a rush so please don't take offense if suddenly leave in a hurry. |
| Vathelokai07-18-05, 04:44 PM | "No offense is possible between us, not in these halls. If you don't mind me asking, what is so powerfull about this preticular mark. I have a few of the tatoos that the psions weave. Is this a type of tatoo that I have never heard of? Has this master of your managed to steal the psions art and imbue tatoos with magic?" |
| SoulLord07-19-05, 10:11 AM | Now now my brother you really don't want me to reveal all of my secrets. After all we may see each other in the Arena one day. Vandelar concentrated again an annoyed look on his face Strange I should have been called to the arena by now I wonder what is delaying things. Maybe a previous fight is taking longer than expected. Vandelar hesitated against taking another piece of fruit, as he did not want to feel to heavy once the fight started. So what are your plans for the next fight? |
| Vathelokai07-19-05, 02:25 PM | "I'm not sure I will fight in the arena any time soon. I considered it, prepared myself for it, but kill is not in my nature. Not that I havn't done it before. Orcs and goblins cannot be swayed otherwise." Denshi shifts nervously and glances around to make sure the hall is empty. Seeing no one other than the Magister, he gets up and rummages through his bag, pulling out a scroll case. He sits back down, draws out a small slip of parchment hidden amoung the scrolls, and offers it to Vandelar. "I recieved this note in my room immidiately after my last battle. The circumstances were strange. My familiar saw no one enter and no alarms were sounded." Vandalr reads the note, which says tersly, 'arrive alone or with familiar at the alley 300 paces northeast of the colliseum on the 20th at sundown. Expect good company.' There is no seal or signature. "I took my concerns to the seers while I was gaining a tatoo from them. They could not identify how the note arrived, but they did preform a ceremony which sent me into a trance. I recieved a vision." The craftsman procedes to describe his vision (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6593196&postcount=8) to the necromancer. "I know myself well enough to know that I cannot let such a mystery alone. Whoever sent the note knows that as well. The meeting was scheduled at the same time as my next bout in the arena, so I canceled my fight. "I do expect I will come back here after the meeting. If you were around to discuss the matter, it would be appreciated. Also, if I don't return, I would like to know that someone would alert the authorities. I don't know you that well, but as a fellow wizard I ask this favor." |
| SoulLord07-19-05, 04:12 PM | Vandelar examines the scroll, the ink the handwritting everything that could be examined from it. I suggest you comment this with no one else, Whoever sent it to you seems to be resourceful, even though I would guess he would not dare spy upon these halls. I shall do as you requested Shall we say a week before I inform the authorities that you are missing? |
| Vathelokai07-19-05, 04:28 PM | "A week would work nicely. I thank you." Denshi gets up, stretches and walks toward the door. His cat gives up trying to distract the Magister from his work and follows. "This has been refreshing but I must go. I have preperations to make and you should be on your way to find out what is happening in the arena. I shall see you in three days time, if not a week. Good day Vandelar." This break is in character only. I'll be online all week. |
| SoulLord07-20-05, 01:17 PM | Vandelar waits at the halls when suddenly someone yells him that he should hurry his Fight is about to start. At this Vandelar leaves the building. |
| Vathelokai08-15-05, 07:15 AM | Vandalar the Red, tired and confused, wandered the evening streets of Gladius. His elven feet carried him where they would, and he found himself in front of the marble steps of the Brotherhood of the Arcane Order. The Brotherhood was a comfortable place to him, and on a whim he decided to step inside. He walked through the antechamber to the great hall where the Magister was perpetually hunched over his desk, hidden behind stacks of paper and vials of potions. Vandelar waved, and the Magister nodded back, which was the most response most anyone got from the Magister; provided they were a member of the Brotherhood. Vandalar walked across the massive chamber to the corner where a fire place burned in front of two plush red chairs. As he gently sat, a bowl of fruit and mug of tea appeared on the short table between the chair. Much was on Vandalar's mind. Things had not been going well at the arena. The beginners circuit was so easy, but since he had been promoted to the next rank he had not won a single fight. The free for all battle stuck out as a sore spot in his mind. He now knew the uncomfortable truth about what it was like to die. That philosophical thought caught him off guard and suddenly brought to mind Denshi. It had been weeks since he had seen the elven craftsman. It had been weeks since Denshi asked Vandalar to check up on him after one week. His loss in the arena had made him focus more then ever on his fighting skills. The same with the next loss, and he had forgotten his other activities in the mean time. Vandalar finished his tea, got up, and walked over to the Magister's desk. He stood waiting to be acknowledged. After a few minutes, The magister broke a quill he was writing with, and while searching for a new one in a drawer looked up at the necromancer. "Yes?" "Have you seen the elf Denshi in the halls this month?" "I don't have the time to keep track of everyone in Gladius." "He is a member of the brotherhood." "I'm afraid not." The Magister shuffled a few papers and came up with a note written in Denshi's handwritting. Below that was written a few lines, presumably by the Magister. "This the chap? He was a probationary, not a member. To answer your question, no, I have not seen him since you and he spent the day talking." The Magister left the note on the edge of the desk where Vandalar could clearly read it, and returned to the scroll he was working on. Seeing nothing of interest in the note, Vandalar returned to the fireplace to think. After comming up with a plan, he left quietly, and headed to the arena district. The arena itself rose regaly in the center of town, viewable from anywhere, and as the nearby buildings began to block the view he knew he was nearing the gladiator housing. The appartments were a dingy neighborhood, but not really seedy. Most gladiators, who didn't get their own homes, were a loud raucous bunch, prone to staying out late and oblivious to the effect their cacophany made on thier neighbors. Vandalar walked through, headed straight for the arena offices. The arena was open late for a battle. Presumably one of the gladiators had demanded no direct sunlight. The necromancer waited in line at the registration area for his turn at the window. "I want to challenge a gladiator named Denshi" The desk clerk, a large imposing human who may have been a gladiator himself, nodded and began flipping through the ledger for the name. "Denshi is no longer registered. He only fought once. He's not even in your league, Mr. Vandalar." "Then give me his address so that I might send a messenger to challenge him directly." The clerk squinted, thinking the request was a bit odd. It wasn't unheard of though, and the clerk shrugged, and slid the ledger over to where Vandalar could read it. Satisfied, the necromancer turned away and headed back to the appartment district. Denshi's home was a small long house. From the outside it looked like a shack; the walls were unpainted, the windows cracked. There was one main door and one larger barn style door at the back end of the house. The doors were locked and no lights were on. He pounded on the door anyway and the only answer was a faint scratching noise. A moment later, he saw a grey cat in the window. Vandalar rememberd the cat as Denshi's familiar. The cat dissappeared again, and after a lot of clatter and scratching the door swung open an inch. The cats eye glinted through the crack. Vandalar pushed open the door and entered. The door had been latched with a hand sized bar that could be pushed up easily, and he relatched it. The room was small, furnished only with 3 wooden chairs and a table. The necromancer grabbed the lamp from the table and lit it. The small room off to the side had a bed and a cabinet. The bed was made and the cabinet was full of clothing. He went back to the greeting room and through the other door on the back, followed by the cat. The back room, taking up 2/3rds of the house, was completely open with two walls lined with shelves and tables. The far end held the large door, and he could see that that door had a crack in the bottom for the cat to come and go through. The room was filled with tools; various anvils, water troughs, hammers, tongs, chisels, files, vials, beakers, retorts, and alembics. In the center back was a huge furnace with a stove pipe leading out the cealing. Most of the tools appeared put away, and the forge was cold. The cat hopped up on a table and stared at Vandalar inquisitively. He scratched the cats shoulders and said, "I'm wondering where he went too. I'll let you know if I find anything. Don't forget to lock the door behind me." Part 2 comming soon... |
| nightbanegod08-18-05, 10:06 PM | sticking his head in through the door and guiding a child in front of him... "Did anyone lose a whelp (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=481173)?" he calls out... waiting for a response from someone important ignore this post if its not supposed to be here yet .. i forgot to ask king uther wether or not i should post it here yet |
| The Magister08-19-05, 06:52 AM | I'm sure the King won't mind...However, I will change the bit about the fine dinner after delivering the boy. Dalamar Ohmsford (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6773785) struts through the ante chamber, which opens to a massive hall. The walls of the hall are covered in tapestries, between them are small nooks which hold statuettes. Torches line the walls every twenty feet, but they seem to be decoration, for a difuse light fills the room from no discernable location. There are closed doors on each wall and in the far corner there is a burning fireplace, hidden by two overstuffed chairs. At the opposite point from where Ohmsford enters the room is a large desk, covered in papers, books, vials and trinkets. Hovering over the clutter is a white haired human in black and gold robes. robes. At Ohmsford's announcement the Magister shows no notice. He does not even look up. Since the Magister is the only person in the room, Ohmsford draws closer, the boy following close on his heels. Standing now at the edge of the desk, he cannot help but try to read over the Magisters shoulder at the missive that has him so enthralled. A quick glance (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=136753) tells Ohmsford that it is illusonary script, and reading it would be hazardous. After a few minutes, where the boy stands perfectly still and attentive, the Magister finishes and looks up. He smiles at the boy, "You have returned. I trust you spoke little and brought less attention to yourself." The boy and the magister stare at each other, occasionally changing their facial expressions slightly. It occurs to Dalamar (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=136754) that they must be speaking telepathicly. Sudden paranoia strikes Dalamar, as he realizes how easy it would be to have his thoughts scanned. What was he getting himself into? After a moment, the Magister nodds and the boy leaves wordlessly through the door behind the desk. The Magister stands, "I would like to congratulate you on your well crafted rescue of my boy. I trust he has brought you no difficulties. Is there a way I could repay you?" |
| SoulLord08-19-05, 11:44 AM | Vandelar returned to the halls. He had faced many defeats recently in the arena and his friend was nowhere to be seen perhaps his strategies were flawed, even though on some ocassions the lay of the arena had surprised him. Like the time when he expected to appear behind the safety of the columns only to find out that they were not there to offer protection, just as he had realized that he saw his opponent and what's worst his opponent had also seen him. being too fast for him to react he had ben felled by arrows. Another note had been given to him that he was a probationary member. a situation he expected to change soon. perhaps that why he had not seen the benefits of joining the guild. perhaps it's arcane secrets and lore was reserved only to official members. Magister, I have returned, I see that you have accepted me as a probationary member. but I would like to change that. Do tell me what do I need to do to become a full member of this prestigious organization? |
| The Magister08-19-05, 11:59 AM | Ah Vandalar, always a pleasure. The magister turns away from Ohmsford and addresses the necromancer. "You see, there has been a shake-up at the city hall. The mayor and the council have decreed that the unrestrained activities of the guilds must be regulated. Therefore, a registration process has been enacted. Undoubtedly, more regulations will be comming this way, but you need not worry about such matters. Seeing that you have always been an upstanding member of the guild, the process will be a mere formality. However, I am quite busy at the moment." The Magister motions to the enchanter standing by his desk. "Could we schedule something for next week?" Since pairings are already done for the week, we could set up a miniquest for next week. It will be ECL 2. Is there anything specific you would like to do? Combat oriented or skill oriented? Would you like to be paid in cash or items? 'Rules of Gladius: Quests' says that the profit can be larger if it is items. I have a few ideas, if you can't think of something specific. |
| SoulLord08-19-05, 12:50 PM | I see master I will return later then when you have more time to attend such matters. Vandelar glanced at the person sitting and was suprised to see another grey elf he did not recognize him but perhaps there would be time to talk later of 'elven' things so he just nodded at him in a sign of respect. ok how about a quest ecl 3 and items reward, I don't mind combat as long as theres some role playing purpose behind it |
| Vathelokai08-19-05, 01:10 PM | Unfortunately, mini-quests can only be 'your ECL-2' (a full quest can be your ECL, but it is 3 weeks and costs 3 credits). So, you can choose an ecl 1 or 2. Item rewards in quests are 3/4 of their market value. Example: If you bought a masterwork widget, it would cost 400 gp. If you found a MW widget in quest, it would only be worth 300 gp, leaving you an extra 100 in gold. An ECL 2 quest nets 600gp or 800gp in items. *edit* After a discussion with Catarane, the item rewards have been clarified. Unless an item is specificly quested for, the item treasure should be random, though appropriate to the setting. If you wish your rewards to be in items, then it would be best to simply recieve the money out of character, and in character say that you were paid in items. Although the rules allow someone to be rewarded with, say, 800gp in scrolls, it would be considered inappropriate. Miniquest rules MiniQuests: MiniQuests are similar to arena fights but they follow some of the rules for Quests. A MiniQuest takes one week to complete, in-and off-game, and they do not cost a credit although your character is still considered active for that week. Because of the single week, the 1/3 rule for spellcasting and items applies in MiniQuests, too. You can die like in Standard Quests, but you do not get the +33% Quest Completion reward that regular Quests get. Finally, you may only go on a MiniQuest of an Encounter Level (EL) no more than 2 less than your Effective Character Level (ECL). You may only quest for an ally which you (most of the time) have to defeat but not kill in case of an unintelligent animal companions, be it with a spell, or subdual damage, or any other method that knocks it out of the combat. If you accidently killed it, you either have to raise it from the dead (which doesn't seem like a good option) or quest for it again. You will still get the XP and Treasure for the Quest. If you plan to animate it as an undead, it doesn't matter if you kill it (infact, you must kill it to get the corpse). Leadership allies are different because of their intelligence, and the way to aquire it is up to the Questlord which can be almost any kind of situation, limited only by the creativity of the Questlord. Example: Perhaps your ally is an imprisoned princess who happens to be a fierce amazone and now swear allegiance to you? Or you have to fight your ally much like Robin Hood had to beat Little John in order to proof himself worthy of him. And remember, Robin didn't kill Little John, infact, he didn't even knock him unconscious so if you can proof your soon-to-be ally that you are superior (for example, you are at full health while he has lost more than 3/4, or he cannot hit your AC, or harm you, etc etc), he might even give up, and acknowledge you as his master. In the former example, you need not fight your new ally (the warrior-princess) but the one who imprisoned her instead (a fallen-in-love noble with his guards perhaps), but you won't get away so easily with Little John. The reason behind this is that you must proof to be able to defeat the companion (or, in case of the princess, an equal foe who entrapped her). This also forms a bond between the gladiator and the ally, making the ally seem to be more alive. And finally, it prevents frequent switching of the allies because you always have to embark on a Quest. Types of MiniQuests: There are two different ways to run a MiniQuest. The easier way is to run it like an arena fight on the Dungeon Map. Request tactics normally, and post it in the Battles thread. Since this is much easier than an arena fight you are encouraged to write a little story around the fight. The other possibility is to open a seperate thread and run it similar to a Standard Quest, although not as detailed. The player may make decisions on the spot and roleplaying will surely benefit from this type of quest. Talk to the player which type he would prefer. Both versions are worth 1 credit. Why MiniQuests? Two reasons. Not everyone wants to pitlord fights or audit characters to gain credits but that would also mean he could never obtain an animal companion, or take the leadership feat. Secondly, some quest goals are just too easy to justify an extravagant long Quest. If, for example, the level 20 Harvester wants to quest for a CR 6 Red Dragon so that he may animate him as a zombie, the outcome is clear and a 3-week Quest would be boring. |
| SoulLord08-19-05, 01:55 PM | ah well; I would prefer in that case a quest but perhaps the credit cost requirement would be too steep for new members as a requirement to join the guild; So I leave it up to you, either a miniquest lvl 2 or a quest |
| Vathelokai08-19-05, 03:33 PM | If the credit cost is the only thing holding you back, I could pay a credit or two of the cost for a full quest, or all of them if you are saving up for a campaign or something. There are some things to consider though. You are very close to leveling. If you were to die on your quest, you would loose a lot of xp. (back to the minimum to be Lv. 4) You can choose the ECL of your quest. ECL MiniQuest 3-week Quest 1 300 1,200 2 600 2,400 3 900 3,600 4 1,200 4,800 Quests consist of 3 encounters. The table above assumes that you succeed at all 3 encounters. Failing encounters causes you to gain less gold. You could choose to go on 3 miniquests, or one 3 week quest. *edit*It looks like Cat is requiring 3 weeks of questing to join a guild, no matter what. If you choose to do the mini quest, then there would effectively be 'save points' between weeks. As long as you pass the first one (should be easy) then dying in the 2nd or 3rd would not set you back more then one fight. |
| SoulLord08-19-05, 04:31 PM | How about this, IF I win this week's fight I will probably level up if that's the case we go with the 3 week quest if I lose :( then we go with the lvl 2 miniquest. |
| SoulLord08-24-05, 08:35 PM | Vandelar was relaxed he had not entered his papers to fight in the arena this week and so expected a nice week relaxing and helping in the brotherhood. That is until two men as big as a horse intercepted him.. We heard you are not fighting this week That is true I have other business to attend to now if you'll excuse me I don't think you understand.... we want you to fight this week Last time I looked I was not a genie to grant wishes. That was the last thing he saw a throbbing headache and the familiar chant's of the crowd made him realize that he was indeed fighting this week. Curses! the least thing those brutes could do was give me some time to prepare myself Vandelar hadn't restored most of his used scrolls nor had he copied a few spells he had set his mind upon before entering the arena. Next time I'll make sure the first thing I do after I leave the arena is to restore my stuff after this he noticed one of the posters describing the fight Magic vs Might Grakk mightyfist record 6 wins 6 loses mighty barbarian ...... Great a barbarian tough enough to survive anything I throw his way and then some more. Resigned Vandelar stepped forward he would need to be very lucky this time any mistake and the barbarian could crush him in a second. |
| nightbanegod08-25-05, 06:36 PM | "Indeed dear magister, finely crafted. However, on another note, surely even you could understand my desire to study at this learning institute. i see great magics being worked here and i wish nothing more than to learn these magics and bend them to my will. The "ART" is ever present in my life, and i cast all other objectives aside in the presence of oportunity for the "ART". Dalamar bows to the magister in a honest salute to one who has indeed vast amounts of magical power. " I would aspire to one day be your equal, if you would have me as a fellow student of The "ART" if neccessary i could go on a quest for the brotherhood in an attempt to prove my desire to learn the arcane arts. and any other reasons i may have for attempting to join the brother hood, as much as i am aware of the magisters superior magical prowess, are truly second rate to my HONEST desire at advancing my own skills of magic |
| The Magister08-26-05, 04:48 PM | Then you have come to the right place, enchanter. I welcome you to these halls. However, the city council is still in the midsts of a discussion on what makes a 'guildmember.' I am currently restrained from offering anyone, even my own faculty, any benifits of residencey. Word has it that these things will be resolved soon though. In the mean time, feel free to access our library, or perhaps the laboratory." |
| SoulLord09-01-05, 10:52 AM | Vandelar had suceeded in his fight perhaps the orcish brutes who had hastily thrown him into the arena were friends of the mighty fist or perhaps they thought they had a sure bet in their hands. Fortunately the half-orc had a small flaw in his preparations that allowed vandelar to win, hurriedly he rushed back to the brotherhood to scribe some spells and copy a few new ones. If there was a fight he would not be caught unaware. After finishing he walked down looking for the magister as they still had unfinished business to talk about. |
| Sindorin09-07-05, 11:23 PM | A haggard man with tattoos peeking out from the collar of his robes underneath his hood slowly opens the large cracked doors of the Brotherhood of the Arcane Order. His steps, slow and deliberate, echoed quietly across the smooth marble floors as he strode towards the Magister's chambers. It has been long since I walked these halls... Aranor thought to himself. He had read much of disturbing events regarding the Magister here at this chapter of the Arcane Order, rumors and scrolls of treachery and an army of young black dragons under these very halls... Aranor sensed some sort of coverup operation that was meant to hide this, thus he sought membership with this chapter. "Greetings, Magister. I am an old friend of your predecessor, and I was wondering if I could seek membership in this chapter?" Aranor inquired, eyebrows raised in curiosity and anticipation, awaiting the younger man's response eagerly... OOC: I heard that there were benefits if our characters quested to join the guilds... or was that being talked about in the Council? |
| The Magister09-08-05, 04:18 AM | Nice to see ya, Sin.Here's the story. I PM Cat, asking for the okay to start running the guild. Cat realizes guilds are super cool. The next day I check the house of commons and there is a debate in progress on codifying rules for the guilds. The benifit of the mage guild currently...you know the 'gain money from profession rules' that have just been added? If you are a member of the mage guild you can use your knowledge skills instead of profession skills to make money. Basicly, by joining you become faculty, and get paid weekly for teaching based on how many ranks you have in your highest knowledge skill. Currently under debate...guild wars/battles: If a guild challenges another guild, the looser of the fight cannot use their guild benifit the next week. i.e. if East habari corners some mages in a dark alley, the entire school shuts down for the week OR the mages kick butt and east habari is watched by the police for a week and they don't get their benefits. Guild rankings...Everyone wants it, but noone is sure how to do it. There is talk of having a prize for being the top ranking guild, such as being able to break core rules that week or something. i.e. wizards using spells from tome and blood. I'm against it, and the debate is at a stand still. For now, no new guilds may be created. Once the new guild rules go into full effect, I will have to post a new thread, and retire the magister. That should happen in the next few weeks. So, I'm working on a short story that kind of covers the events, and leaves enough plot hooks to get things moving. The elder in charge of the guilds is Tellish. If you want to join the guild, you must quest. If you want to mini-quest, I can do that anytime. If you want a 3 week quest, it will be a couple weeks. I'm behind schedule on SoulLord's quest as it is. Good to have you back. The magister looks up from his perpetual scribble. For the first time that anyone can remember, his expression changes. The lines on his face crease in confusion or worry for a split second before returning to their smooth, amiable look of superiority. "Of course. Any who are qualified may seek membership in our Order. But I warn you, politics have charged the atmosphere of Gladius. Agents work in darkness to upset the balance of power. The council is deadlocked on the status of the guilds, and even this week a member of our faculty was kidnapped right here on the campus. Of course Vandalar is a skilled necromancer and escaped with little difficulty. This is a dark time to join us, but I suspect you have seen darker." The magister stares at the stranger (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=7117895), analyzing, planning. |
| Sindorin09-08-05, 09:16 AM | Aranor pondered these words... He had seen so many a dark time that he tended to consider the entire time a dark time... Why, then, had politics... mere politics, evidently become the cause of this 'dark time'? "Very well then. I don't suppose your faculty has any openings? I am well-versed in Evocation and Transmutation, and not limited to those schools. I humbly offer my services simply for the opportunity to teach here." Aranor bows his hooded form slightly before the Magister's desk, and withdraws his bow slowly, gauging the Magister's eyes coolly. OOC: Hmm, a Miniquest would be fun, and I don't really have the credits for a 3 week one just yet. Miniquest it is! |
| The Magister09-08-05, 04:18 PM | "Yes, yes, the faculty most definitely has openings. And room and board are provided for teachers in addition to the weekly stipend. Actually, we have had a bit of a shortage in transmuters. The Arena is a large draw for evokers and necromancers. We havn't had a proper divinations teacher in ages. Tell me, since there is a bit of time before the semester starts, what is that you do for a profession? Would you happen to have some spare time to devote to guild projects in the mean time? And you say you knew the previous headmaster..." So, MQ for sept 14. EL 3. Anything specific you want? Monster fight, magic treasure, intrigues... |
| Sindorin09-08-05, 04:26 PM | "Yes, I knew him. Actually the reason that I came here to Gladius was in part because I stopped receiving letters from him some time ago. I grew rather worried about him, given the history of this city... I was not able to get my affairs in order so I could be here until recently. I would be able to teach Transmutation here, and Divination, however hokey it seems at times, is something I could do here as well. And, of course I am also able to help out however possible, wherever I am needed," Aranor replies to the Magister as he is measured... OOC: I'm not really sure of what I need at this point. I'm still working on some of the kinks in Aranor's build. Something involving whatever happened to the previous magister could be interesting... |
| Guildmaster (TAO)09-19-05, 04:01 AM | Oops. |
| Book510-04-05, 01:11 AM | A grungy halfling walks calmly into the antechamber. A whip curls around a short sword at his hip, but he wears a loose breezy (and stained ) shirt as opposed to armor. "Eh!! Whats it take to get a bag of fried grasshoppers in this city!? I have been up and down these streets and you cant catch quality hoppers anywhere! Hell its amazing that anything lives in a city this busy!" Twirls a dagger around and looks for a merchant counter. "Hey, Im a gladiator! I expect some kinda service here! This a magic shop or what?!" |
| SoulLord10-05-05, 12:47 PM | Vandelar arrived from his latest fight. He had heard they were supposed to fight some sort of devil which interested him greatly as perhaps it was related to the lemures attacking the school. Unfortunately it was a demon the one he fought and so he couldn't get much useful information from him. Still the question remained what was happening in gladius that demons and devils were shown more and more, some in the Arena and some in the city itself. As he pondered on this he noticed the gladiator demanding services. Good morning Sir Unfortunately we are forbidden to sell you directly the merchandise you are looking for, perhaps you'll have more luck in the market |

Good morning Sir Unfortunately we are forbidden to sell you directly the merchandise you are looking for, perhaps you'll have more luck in the market The wirey halfling laughs HA! I can see this place is in the middle of renovations. This old building looks a shambles. Dusty and drafty, I'll be back when the expansions finished. The gruff little fellow seems to hesitate before departing |
| SoulLord10-07-05, 04:03 PM | Vandelar could be seen talking to some officials at the old guild. The Magister Can't be missing there are many things to do, What do you mean it appears that he just vanished! wizards dont....... Vandelar paused some wizards indeed just vanished without a trace... Leave like that when important matters are at stake!. Where are the rest of the students? the first thing that must be done is to get them to safety. Vandelar wished there was a higher Ranking member of the guild around as things were he was still a probationary memmber .... at least he was before he embarqued on the necromancer's journey. Perhaps one of the Magister's enemies had gotten to him like they had the necromancer..... Still there was not time for speculation The guild had been attacked and all remaining wizards would have to find who was behind it, and the whereabouts of the Magister. After The officer left vandelar explored what was left of the guild perhaps there was a clue that would hint where the magister was. |
| Book510-08-05, 12:11 AM | Walking back from the arena after hearing the frustrating news. Tan that rascal of a halfling walked past the guild arcane. He shakes his blue hair, and decides if he cant purchase.. he might as well pester. He pokes his orangish nose through the door to see the same dark cloaked elf with an obviously arcane headband rummaging through debries. A subtle fellow when he needs to be Tan slippes close enough to overhear Vandelar speaking to himself. Students? Attack? What in the hall happened here? Tan's premier gladitorial battle had been postponed and he was itchin for some kind of trouble. I thought this place was rundown 'cause no one ever kept it up? Your saying somebody wrecked the place? Hey, you! Yeah you, Elf, with the headband. What happened to this place? Tan aint gonna qualify for membership for like three levels, but thats what "RP" is for right? FYI - Tan will end up in the magic users guild eventually. Aiming for spellsword. |

Feel free to RP here, but be warned; The next couple days of posts will be ramping up to a quest for the current members. Tan finds the hall empty. Thinking back on it, the emptiness might be explained by the large abount of city guards he had to sneak by to get onto the campus. They did seem pretty determined to keep people away. Then there was that article in the newspaper (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=501035), something about a fight at the school. Either way, Tan wanders around the halls looking for people. Occasionally, he hears unsettling noises comming from beneath the floor. He is sure there is some kind of passage, but he cannot find a way down. While searching, he hears footsteps and gives chase. After winding through the narrow paths of the library for a long quiet time, he hears another noise. Looking through the shelves he sees a human boy, even smaller then himself. He inches around the bookshelves and inches closer to the obviously frightened youngster. Tan cracks a few jokes and tries to calm the kid. The child does not move or speak, but remains pressed against the shelves. The second Tan gets withing arms reach, the boy lunges out and bites his hand. (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=163054) Tan jumps back and looks at the wound. He thinks it's not that bad...Tan wakes up on the cold floor of the library. Not too much time could have passed. The sun is still high in the air, and the halfling dosn't feel stiff. Brushing himself off, he heads out of the library. If you want, you could do your quest to enter TAO next week. Mini-quests are free (though they are your ECL -2). You wouldn't be 'official' for a while, but you would still technicly be part of the organization. |

He thinks that one of the Magisters allies has turned against him. -The mage hunter Sigmond and his crew seemed to think that The Arcane Order was allied with devils. -In fact, devils had assulted the students. -Though the papers imply that the elf Pirotess saved a number of students single handedly, the captain investigator of the guard was sure that she came out of the main hall with a human named Aranor. However, no one has seen the man since. -There is a complex of catacombs beneath the campus of TAO. Some speculate that the catacombs might connect to the sewers of the city, which lead almost everywhere in Gladius. Heres some gold and a healing potion. Why dont you go pole your nose around and see what you can find out. There aint nuthin good about demons. After the desert goblin, who had traveled accross half a continent with tan, left the cheap tavern - Tan got his dog ready for the arena. Tan didnt want to get attached to the big fellow, but he smiled when he realized they would both be in the nimbus. You ready Popper, this is gonna be fun. Yeah, miniquest would be alright. "Associate" - how bout "Entertainer." Tan is here because (at the moment ) he just plain doesnt want to deal with them hamurabies, besides "Where do you go to get the best magic mechandise? - The wizard guild." About the goblin, take it as RP.. or feel free to throw a goblin with a healing potion into the champaign mix. Either way the idea is that my "attendant" spies on whats happening and lets me know. |
| Vathelokai10-10-05, 09:32 AM | Pirotess the elven diviner watches the crowd in the shopping district across the street from the campus slowly disperse. A dozen or so teachers and administrators had gathered together, discussed and made an annoucement. "All students, please meet tomorrow morning at the Red Lion Tavern. We will have some answers for you then. Come prepared to attend your classes." Pirotess and Aranor look back and forth at each other. Aranor, fidgiting with some item he has hidden in his pouches, shakes his head. "I have to get going. The number of questions this has raised, prompts me to research some things. Be safe." Pirotess considers asking more questions of the old transmuter, but can see in his face that he is already gone. Aranor turns and walks away, keeping a slanted eye on the campus. Pirotess, frustrated and worried, walks slowly over to the crowd of teachers. They are talking in low voices and when she arrives they all turn to look at her. One steps forward, "Hello, I am Cali. I would like to thank you, on behalf of the school, for your quick intervention. It...uh...We..." Cali bites her lip and stares at the ground for a moment, unsure of what to say. "It is alright. I did what needed to be done. To be honest, I was on my way to see the Magister. I saw that the school was in need of divinations teachers, and that is my specialty." Cali seems slightly encouraged, and smiles a bit. "What timing! We are all going to meet head down to the tavern. I think our plan is to take over the upstairs parlor and have an offical meeting. Your are invited, of course. We need to regroup, discover how many teachers have disappeared...Sorry. We all need time to think." The group of mages turns and begins to walk down the street to the tavern, which they say is only a couple blocks down. A small force of city guards can be seen comming down the street. When they arive they surround the school. It appears they are only keeping watch, since their numbers are so small. Questions/actions? |
| Vathelokai10-10-05, 10:12 AM | Aranor the transmuter leaves Gladius and heads down the long road to SothLarch. Sothlarch is known to be an rough and tumble place, with unsavory characters in charge of the city, but it is the nearest city with its own guild of wizards. The Sothlarch guild has long been at odds with the guild of Gladius, and Aranor was begining to understand why. The trip was long but uninterupted. The lights of the city glowed on the horizon for days before he reached it. When he arrived at the city at night, he bribed his way through the gate and headed directly for the tower. "No visitors, come back in the morning," says the middle aged wizard who is the only person in the greeting room. He sits behind a table covered in books and scrolls. "Haerdonin? Blessed Boccob! Is that really you? What's was my dogs name when you last knew me?" "You didn't have a dog, Cyrus." Aranor smirks a bit at the humans poor excuse for a password. They stare each other down before exchanging a chuckle and a quick hug. "Unfortunately, I'm here on business. I went to visit the old magister of Gladius." At that, Cyrus immediately frowns. "It seems the Gladius guild has been comming appart at the seams over the last two years. Cyrus pushes his research out of the way"Yeah, we know about it. They got what they deserve if you ask me. You just don't play with the outsiders without getting burned." "So you know about that, do you?" Aranor didn't know about that, but figured baiting his old friend would be no crime. "Well, it's all top secret and all, but yeah I knew. We've been keeping tabs on that new Magister. We've had a couple people from his guild come up here telling us things, asking us to get involved. I don't know what came of it; the guys upstairs probably came up with some plan. Not my business." Cyrus rolls his eyes. "So, what's this business your on?" |
| SoulLord10-10-05, 11:33 AM | Vandelar dismissed the officer as he tried to gather with the remaining teachers and students. There wer many things that needed to be done and he was not sure who he could trust... for all he knew the academy could well have someone among them helping to cause trouble. the company and the dark wind he knew nothing off so he needed people with contacts to gather information about them and their relationship with the order... Quinton needed to be found and persuaded to share his concerns about the magisters enemies. Last he had heard a wizard pirotess had dealt with the devils, and thats the kind of wizard he wanted with him when he explores the catacombs under the TAo to search information on the devils or whatever the magister kept doing down there there were other issues as well but this were the ones most pressing into his mind. With this he left what was left of the campus. It would be rebuilt greater than ever! |
| Vathelokai10-10-05, 12:12 PM | Vandalar sets about the task of finding Quinton. The elf assumed that Quinton would have come directly to TAO, but that was not the case. Vandalar checked some of the most obvious places, like the arena registry and the records of who sailed out from the port, but to no avail. On a lark, he decides to send Ganon out with a note, in case the human necromancer would be out in public. After a day of surveying the damage to the school, Vandalar heads to the Red Lion where the faculty of the school as decided to convene for the evening. The Red Lion is a large building, really closer to a hotel then a standard taven. The three story building is surrounded on all sides by smaller shops, which block the view and make the tavern seem far smaller then it really is. The illusion is pushed further by the main enterence, which leads to a traditional, if large, bar. The dozen customers, most likely regulars, seem entirely unfazed by the weeks events at the school. They seem quite comforted by the large number of wizards that have taken up shop in the building. Vandalar strides through the tavern to the stairwell, nodding to familiar faces on the way. Up the stairs and down the hall he finds the door to the conference hall where the faculty is meeting. He steps in quietly, trying not to interupt. "...situation with the finances is obviously bleak, but what more can we do. The owner of this place is giving us an incredible discount. Unless we want to hold class in the woods, we will find no cheaper in town. Since we have all agreed not to cancel the semester, this is our option." The younger female human, Cali is sitting at the head of the table. He recognizes her as a minor member of the abjurations department, though she seems to have taken control of the situation. Vandalar recognizes some other faces around the table: Auburn, a forest gnome from who taught summoning - she had been out of town durring the assult; Pirotess, the elven diviner sits quietly at the end of the table; Ruster, the administrator who works as the liason between the teachers and the schools buracracy, who Vandalar had spoken with earlier in the day. All told there are twenty casters sitting around the table. "Hello, Mr. Vandalar. To catch you up, this hotel has offered it's conference rooms to us to use as classrooms. Boarding is being provided for faculty that needs it. TAO was the owners alma mater, so she has been most generous." There are a couple mumble from the table, but most seem satisfied with the arangement. Cali's face grows dim, "We have had time to do a head count. 2 students were killed by lemure devils. Their families have been notified and compensated, and those two are now doing fine. The clerics of the arena stepped in to help us there. 7 teachers have not been found. Not supprisingly, Vanderis in amoung them, though we have heard that he was at city hall durring the attack. We still have no word from the Magister." |
| SoulLord10-10-05, 12:41 PM | Indeed I think the first priority has been acomplished the students are safe.... for now I think we must prepare for more outsider problems. I intend to go back and search for the cause of the attack and perhaps for more information on the magister whereabouts. Vandelar hesitated for a second and then resumed.. Also there is at least a group of misinformed people that think we are demon delvers.... master Quinton was attacked by this people so we need to erradicate this bad press before it spreads and other members are targeted as well. |

"Well... the new magister of the Gladius chapter has gone missing. I don't suppose you know anything about this? May I talk to the others here and ask what they know and if they did anything? I hope they are not too busy or perilously occupied..." Aranor says this with a mild chuckle. |

"He's gone missing, has he? Ain't that a kick in the pants. I know nothing about it. You could ask around when people wake up in the morning. I'd ask Nadir. She's got that snooty elf thing going on, but she's smart, and keeps up on the gossip. Tell her I sent you. I don't think you'd get much information from the establishment. They still don't want the public knowing they keep tabs on Gladius. C'mon, let me show you to a room." Cyrus directs Aranor to a guest room on the second floor of the tower where the transmuter promptly falls asleep. Just before dawn he is startled awake by the empathic link he shares with Invictus. Aranor sits up straight to see an elf woman standing in his room. "You must be Nadir," Aranor grumbles. "I am. You know, if the elders find out what Cyrus told you, you will both be in big trouble. Even the members of the Gladius guild do not know about the deals their magister made with outsiders. You may have friends here, but you are not a member of our group." "So you woke me up in the middle of the night for that? You forget that humans need sleep?" "I woke you up to tell you that the name of the outsider you should be looking for is Shin'mor. You will find no information in this tower. Once the elders realized that you came from Gladius they will make sure everyone in the guild keeps their distance. Indeed, I will be keeping my distance. It might also interest you to know that our guild sent out a wizard hunter to deal with one of the Magisters allies. He never returned." |

We have been discussing what to do if more devils arive. It's very brave of you to search for the cause. If we can assist... At the news of the accusations about allying with demons, the entire room begins to grumble. "I thought something like this might have happened. So far it seems that the city is sympathetic to us after the attack. We should do something to make sure the public knows that we are sending someone to deal with the devils. Might I ask who is this master Quinton? A couple of the older members point out that he was the previous head of the necromancy department. Oh. I keep forgetting how new I am to TAO. He is in town? Perhaps he would like his old position back?" An older half-orc from the necromacy department leans forward, "He just might. Him and the Magister had a falling out...oh back before the year of hell. He might be glad to get back into things." |

As she spoke to Aranor on these matters, he got out of bed and got dressed for the day, as well as began preparing spells. "Well, first and foremost, I do sincerely apologize for any breach of security I may have caused for coming here and sharing information with a member. I did not mean to cause any trouble. Also, thank you for this information, I have heard of Shin'mor in our chapter in my readings of the current members in Gladius, but I have yet to meet him face to face, as things have been very hectic in our guild, what with demons kidnapping faculty and students, and the officials and legion getting involved in that cessation... I don't suppose I could trouble you for information about this 'ally' you all sent the hunter to deal with?" |
| Vathelokai10-10-05, 05:00 PM | "His name is Sigmond. He left nearly three weeks ago. His business should have taken kept him for a week. Officially, he is still persuing matters, but I know better. Some of his henchmen just got back to town and they say he was killed. He was an asset to the guild, so I suspect he will not stay that way for long. It wouldn't be the first time the elders teleported someone's body to Gladius. According to rumor, the Magister's personal assistant did the deed. Well, to be exact, the rumors give a description matching the Magister's assistant." Nadir walks over to the window and peaks out through the blinds. "I must go soon. My protection against scrying will expire by the time the sun is up." |
| Sindorin10-10-05, 05:06 PM | Aranor nodded grimly. "Thank you for what hospitality you have been able to provide. I hope I didn't get Cyrus into too much trouble. I will go back to Gladius as well, unless you think there is other information I could unearth whilst still here?" |
| Vathelokai10-10-05, 05:14 PM | "Other than verifying what I have told you, I doubt you would learn much. I bid you good luck. If you see Sigmond, give him my regards." Nadir turns on her heal and walks toward the door. She stops in front of it and disappears. Well, off to work for me. See you guys in the morning. *edit* Just to point out the obvious, Pirotess and Vandalar are standing in the same room. |

There's also something that concerns me Recently I was in the arena following some rumors of extraplanar activities and found a demon a babau demon to be accurate, doing some research I found that they are enemies of the devils. This is just too convenient if you ask me first we get attacked by devils and next we are presented with the opportunity to deal with demons. "the enemy of my enemy?". Considering the rumors that have striken recently I would consider warning our members to avoid any dealings involving demons.... As for countering the rumors perhaps we can hire a few renowed bards. Vandelar turns to look at pirotess... I heard that you dealt with some of the devils I would be honored if you joined me. Turning back toward the rest I think I Might need aditional help on this Endeavor.... Devils are dangerous creatures. |

The tiny, thirty pound Auburn stands up on her chair, "Indeed, the demons and devils fight just as vigorously as the demons and angels, or the devils and eladrin. It may be that we have taken sides in their battle unwilingly." More murmers, then Cali, "Just to make it offical, shall we ban the making of alliances with demons, devils...and perhaps all outsiders?" "All outsiders would be a bad idea. The number of tiefling and aasimar living in the city would surely take offense. Motion to ban demons and devils." The entire assembly vote 'aye.' "Yes Vandalar, I will see to finding some bards to join us. It may take a week or two, but it will be done." Vandelar turns to look at Pirotess... I heard that you dealt with some of the devils I would be honored if you joined me. Turning back toward the rest I think I Might need aditional help on this Endeavor.... Devils are dangerous creatures. |
| SoulLord10-11-05, 05:12 PM | I have to make preparations for this so any advice you can give about fighting devils is most welcome. I have taken the precaution to buy some silvered bolts and I have removed most fire spells from my repertoire but if you have any other suggestions, please share them. Vandelar listened taking note of the suggestions offered and looked to see if anyone volunteered to go with him. He wouldn't blame them if they did not after all it was dangerous but he hoped there would be a few brave souls who would join him in this perilious Journey. |
| Vathelokai10-11-05, 05:31 PM | Auburn begins rattling off facts, "Most of them can summon others of their kind, so if you are surrounded, escape. Sonic attacks are the only elemental effects that hurt them, though some devils can be electrocuted. Silver works well. Many of them have a poisonous bite. Some can shapeshift." Off to work again. Sindorin: feel free to break into the room if you feel like it...or I'll come up with some introduction as the quest starts. |
| Sindorin10-11-05, 06:38 PM | Aranor returns to the meeting place of the Arcane Order just in time to overhear talks of the expedition, as Vandelar was asking for suggestions on dealing with devils and demons. "I will go with you as well, Vandelar the Red. There are some preparations I need to make as you have, but I assure you I will be ready by the next morning..." |
| Book510-12-05, 12:50 AM | Jimmy the Red Nose, now a clever goblin though he may be, can only sneak so well. Not nearly so well as his master. For a dim witted goblin, Jimmy was alright, and fond of his traveling companion.. in gobliny sort of way. The only real question was not what would the goblin in the city find out at the TOA. The unfortunate former desert nomad was like a fish out of water. The real question is - who finds the little stinker first? This has nothing to do with anything but me, play with jimmy if you want. He will just end up reporting what he learned to Tan. Im sure Vatheloki will have an NPC bite him if nothing else! |
| The Undershadow10-12-05, 03:15 PM | A scrabbly dressed elf enters the ruins, and looks around slowly for anybody to talk to. Hello, is there anybody that could help me? |
| Vathelokai10-12-05, 04:49 PM | Aranor returns to the meeting place of the Arcane Order just in time to overhear talks of the expedition, as Vandelar was asking for suggestions on dealing with devils and demons. "I will go with you as well, Vandelar the Red. There are some preparations I need to make as you have, but I assure you I will be ready by the next morning..." Aranor steps into the confrence room and is greeted by the shuffling of chairs. Vandalar turns to him, "Sir, this is a private meeting." In response, Aranor sits down and pulls out a pipe. Vandalar glances at the other members. Seeing the confusion, the half orc necromancer clears his thoat, "Sir, Mr. Haerdonin was a member of the Order ten years ago. He has of course been gone for some time, but according to our bylaws, he is still a member. That is unless you have resigned, Aranor." |
| Sindorin10-12-05, 05:02 PM | After taking a draw from his pipe and letting it simmer inside himself, Aranor releases the mint-scented smoke through his mouth. He then stands and takes a deep breath. "Of course not. To abandon my brothers in this obvious time of need would not be very brotherly, nor would it help anyone. I have communed with a contact in the Sothlarch Chapter of our order. They tell me that they have sent a hunter to deal with an apparent ally of our late missing magister... this supports my theory that he has been dealing with outsiders, and it explains why demons have been attacking students and faculty. Something must be done about this NOW. Apparently, they have not heard from their hunter in weeks. They will likely teleport his body to the nimbus in case of untimely death. That is beside the point, however. The point is that this chapter has been decieved by her own leader. Until now, nothing has been done to counter the growing threat by our own, instead they of Sothlarch have sacrificed one of their allies to this threat, to our aid. We must make our stand here, and now." Aranor stands in silence, hoping that his speech is received decently well... |
| SoulLord10-12-05, 05:36 PM | Vandelar Stood up as he heard the acusations. Those are very serious acusations Master Aranor To accuse The magister of treason to the guild by associating with devils when he is not present to refute them does not seem very brotherly to me... Still Magister or Not we are certain of one thing There are Devils loose in the old campus and they must be stopped, we will go to the campus to search traces for them and for proof that proves or refutes this claims As for The wizard Hunter you speak off I know him well he was dispatched to Deal with an old friend of the Magister Master Quinton he was a sorcerer specialized in dealing with necromancers who went by the name of Sigmond. I have to say I never learned the name of their master but you seem to know them well Would you care to share that information with all of us? Vandelar didn't expect to be tangled in politics at this time and he would not be if he could help it Action not words was what it was needed. |
| Sindorin10-12-05, 06:08 PM | Aranor bowed respectfully after Vandelar responded. "Yes, I understand what I am accusing our Magister of, Master Vandelar. What if I told you that our current Magister is dead, by what or whose hands I know not, however. A black dragon in the previous Magister's supposed crypt told me this even as I had been told to go there by the Magister himself, and that the dragon waylaid me there while the Magister was to supposedly have died! Perhaps it is not unbrotherly, but merely devotion to suspect such things in order to figure out this mystery. Regardless of the manner I am speaking in and of, this is what I have seen! Were it not for the abscence of the Talltrees elders Uhmentarymster and Eniolissaryn, this might have been avoided. The state of our chapter here in these ruins has set the stage for a ruse so complex and great that it seems itself to be inconcievable, yet I have to cling to the very hope that has gotten me this far in these long years. This threat must be ended if our Order is to persist." "As for the identity of my contact in Sothlarch, he asked to remain anonymous so to avoid possible wrath from superiors for giving out sensitive information." Taking a deep breath, Aranor fell back into his chair and waited for a response... |
| SoulLord10-12-05, 06:25 PM | Vandelar Calmed down and retook his seat. There we are in agreement Master Aranor The threat must be ended....... This might be nothing but best to let it out. Before I left the Magister seemed troubled and he was muttering something about a tiefling and some sort of "company" and a "Dark Wind" as well as about some members of the council trying to undermine the order...... Truth be told Master Quinton believed that one of the Magister allies turned against him also it might not be related but a student Dalamar Ohmsford, disappeared with no warning a couple weeks before the incident. Now concerning this Dragon you speak of master Aranor Did you fight him? or did he just shared this information you speak of without asking nothing in return? Vandelar made sure to take note of the name uttered by aranor Sothlarch.... he would have to investigate more about them. |
| Sindorin10-12-05, 07:34 PM | Aranor sat thinking to himself. Now, where is this Shin'mor guy while all of this is going on... He stands once again and speaks, "My informant also told me that the person to talk to about this here is a man named Shin'mor. Does anyone know of his whereabouts?" |
| SoulLord11-02-05, 09:27 AM | Vandelar Rushed with master quinton back to the red Lion tavern trying to be as discreet as possible news of this had to be shared with the rest of the members and a plan of action would have to be formed. After asking for a scrying protection to be set up he addressed Quinton. Master Quinton perhaps I have too much faith in you but let's say that you let yourself be captured on purpose so you would find out more about what happened to the magister. If so what did you find? The Sight of the big dragon winking at him was something Vandelar would not forget soon. especially considering they had slain one of her young. |
| Sindorin11-02-05, 02:06 PM | Aranor was glad to see that the others were able to escape unharmed. He sat at the table quietly, as adventurers often would in such a tavern after such a harrowing escape. He also had burns all over his body where the acid had not been kind to him. Thrice during the excursion had Aranor Haerdonin been hit with some form or another of an acid attack. His face had been scarred to the point where he felt that in order to lessen the impression one would get when looking upon him, he must keep his face hidden. He felt like a leper, though his disease was not contagious nor any minor form of leprosy... it was merely the fact that the acid had left his face in complete disarray, parts of it were falling off. Why then did he not feel sickness or pain? He would yet live to discover the secret to those dragons and their agendae. He did understand what Vandelar must be thinking about - Vandelar had killed one of her young... no doubt she had left him some sign of her eventual revenge... or was it revenge? Why did she care not that he himself had killed one of her young in the crypt? The encounter itself had been very intriguing. Shin'mor had been there, he was the tiefling that had served as the negotiator between the draconic and demonic parties that were present... Aranor pondered at the possibility that Shin'mor was a liason representing the order, themselves, negotiating their fate. As usual, it was all a great amount of politics and tedium, and a balance would eventually need finding. So many questions still remained. He continued to thread black, white, and green strands of yarn and thread at the table to make himself a covering so that his eyes could perhaps again see light in these dark days of their order. |
| Cerebus1311-02-05, 03:12 PM | Unsure of all of the inner workings of the meeting they had interrupted to rescue Master Quinton, Pirotess remained mostly silent until they had return to the safety of the upper city. She spent the time afterwards tending to the wounds done to her familiar during the fight with the small dragon. This gave her some time to reflect on herself and her ability as a competent wizard. My abilities in magic are sorely lacking it seems.. At least when I compare myself to Vandelar and Aranor. Perhaps I need to begin studying other strengths of the mind. |
| Book511-02-05, 09:45 PM | As the founders of the reborn arcane order regained their breath in the comfortable and familiar Red Lion Tavern. One of them notices that there is a goblin sitting quite placidly at one of the finer tables. He munches amicably on a sandwich and doesnt seem to have a care in the world, and from the looks of him - not a thought in his head either. He listens to the minstral play and he slapps his knee. His goblin grin hanging garishly. Cali appeares from the top of the stairs. She see's Vandelar and the others and rushes (discreatly) to the floor. First she pauses at the goblins table and speaks something to it quickly. The goblin rolls his eyes and slumps out of his chair - heading for the door. Attempting to stifle her enthusiasm Cali sedatly to Vandelar.. whata ya think Vath? seems like a good time for a Tan introduction? |
| Book511-03-05, 12:54 AM | After congradulating victor, and yelling obsenities at the reporters (he does get carried away now and then ) Tan made his way down a random Gladosian street. He missed his trusty goblin friend coming out a different door than Jimmy was expecting. Jimmy found popper ready to be led back to the Red Lion Stables. A message from Cali "Big Red Returns," delivered in clipped goblin, goes unreceived. 'E 'll be back there 'fore I ams Jimmy thought in eloquent goblin. Complete with subject, objects, and linking verbs. His common is actually passable as well, however Jimmy is comfortable with others underestamating his abilities. Tan walked down a lonely street - and looked at his whip. Why the hell did you buy this stupid thing Tan? Sure its got a long reach, but it sucks! I know what Im gonna do! Im gonna get one of the students to make me an extending mythril chain.. yeah. First I gotta get rid of this stupid thing. Tan nearly throws the whip out into the street.. then he remembers how much he paid for it back in harvervill.. and decides to hold onto to it till he gets his chain. Ok, now where the hell did I end up? Hey you, with the hat! Yeah you! What street is this? Tan, and his blue halfling hair, bound loudly off into the Gladius night life. Bloodstains washed clean by the magic of the halo. Anyone should feel free to abuse Jimmy. Hi, nice guild you got here :) |
