| Stormwind02-20-08, 02:38 PM | King of the Hill: Krusk's agent (mucki) vs. Varjo's agent (Stormwind) vs. Maya's agent (MindWandererB)[Arena] This is a playtest fight to test the proposed community rules. The fight is between Krusk's agent, Varjo's agent and Maya's agent. If you are not mucki, Stormwind or MindWandererB, please do not post here. For the purposes of this fight, all participants are asked to roll using the same session (King of the Hill [Arena]: Krusk's agent vs. Varjo's agent vs. Maya's agent (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=2334#)) of the CoCo dice roller (user: Playtest; password: playtest) All participants are also required to use the [Arena] (http://www.hwx.it/coco/index.php?map=arena) CoCo battle map to show any movement. Finally, a summary of each rounds actions will be posted every round. Results (after 50 rounds) Maya's agent (Bartholomew): 7 rounds on the Hill (winner) Varjo's agent (Ilma): 6 rounds on the Hill Krusk's agent (Jack): 5 rounds on the Hill |

| Stormwind02-20-08, 02:39 PM | Setup Initiative Bartholomew: 18 Ilma: 11 Jack: 7 Starting positions Bartholomew: West Ilma: South Jack: East OOC: Ok, we're ready for round 1 actions. I'll post a round summary each round once everyone has posted actions. In some cases it may be possible to post actions for multiple rounds for a given character ... feel free to do so. |
| MindWandererB02-20-08, 03:02 PM | Per original tactics, Bartholomew starts just to the side of the front center with longspear in hand. He runs directly onto the Hill. http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=Bart,M,55,30,33 ,30 |
| Stormwind02-20-08, 03:23 PM | Also per original tactics, Ilma starts at (31,8) and moves onto the hill. Seeing it already occupied she continues to move, but she remains on the ground ... for now [Double move] [Bartholomew designated as dodge buddy] http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=B,M,33,30,Barth olomew;b=I,S,31,8,33,26,29,29,29,34,Ilma |
| MindWandererB02-20-08, 03:29 PM | (I suggest you alter that path a little: the one you drew provokes an AoO from the longspear.) |
| Stormwind02-20-08, 03:34 PM | Doh ... your right ... thanks - Appreciate you mentioning that and letting me change it |
| mucki02-20-08, 05:13 PM | NOTE1: MWB started east, but he was supposed to start west. I am swapping sides with him, since it does not really matter, and it would probably be more confusing if the already posted maps are mirror image versions. NOTE2: According to the rules of King of the Hill, the central pillar is actually not there, despite being on our maps. Compared to his eager opponents Jack leisurely strolls out (double move), wielding his crossbow while doing so. http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=B,M,55,30,33,30 ,Bartholomew;b=I,M,31,8,33,26,29,29,29,3 4,Ilma;c=J,M,8,31,20,31,Jack |
| Stormwind02-20-08, 05:34 PM | Round 1 Bartholomew 7/7 HP, AC 13 Ilma: 9/9 HP, AC 17 Dodge (+1AC vs Bartholomew) Jack 8/8 HP, AC 16 |
| MindWandererB02-20-08, 05:36 PM | Oops. Sorry. Bartholomew draws his sickle and menaces the air elemental with it, but he really isn't very good. http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=Bart,M,33,30,30 ,34;b=Ilma,S,29,34;c=Jack,M,20,31 Touch AC 8. Next! |
| Stormwind02-20-08, 05:48 PM | Ilma simply slams into Bartholomew [Slam attack: 13 vs AC13 (hit); damage: 2]. Surprisingly enough she doesn't make use of her superior mobility to move at this stage. |
| Stormwind02-20-08, 06:20 PM | Note: Currently, the rules don't say anything about having to 'stand' on the hill for a King of the Hill battle. This would need to be changed to prevent burrowing under or flying above if the consensus is that a character must 'stand' on the hill to gain points. I am currently assuming that you must 'stand' on the hill to count as occupying the hill. --------------------------------------------------------------------- On another matter, gaining points in King of the Hill battles may be very difficult, paritculary with 4 participants. In such a case if one participant dies, then in the next four rounds (due to recovery rules) one participant must kill the two other still living participants just to be able to claim 1 point before the dead guy is on his feat and headed for the center again. This would imply that such fights are very likely to hit the 50 rounds maximum which might be a bit rough as an average ... we'll have to see how this works out, but I believe it is a potential problem, especially with higher level characters in fights with recovery rules. |
| MindWandererB02-20-08, 06:31 PM | Quite possibly--but at higher levels, and with more specialized agents, I expect other options, like bull rushes, involuntary teleports, disabling magic, etc. to make it easier. |
| Stormwind02-20-08, 06:37 PM | True .... we'll just have to see how things work ... ahh, such a hard life, having to play more ... ;) |
| mucki02-21-08, 09:07 AM | Jack moves closer and takes a shot at Ilma, but misses by far (1d20-2=3 (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=2334#90100)). http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=Name,M,30,34;b= Name,M,29,34;c=Name,M,20,31,26,30 |
| Stormwind02-21-08, 09:53 AM | Round 2 Bartholomew 5/7 HP, AC 13 Ilma: 9/9 HP, AC 17 Dodge (+1AC vs Bartholomew) Jack 8/8 HP, AC 16 |
| MindWandererB02-21-08, 03:38 PM | Bartholomew continues to assault the elemental, and continues to be ineffectual. (Touch AC 10.) |
| Stormwind02-21-08, 04:19 PM | Ilma takes a step vertical upwards [5ft step straight up] and then slams into Bartholomew again, but this time her attack from above misses [Slam attack: 8 vs AC13 (miss)]. OOC: Currently only Bartholomew occupies the hill (assuming that you actually have to 'stand' on the hill to occupy it.) |
| mucki02-22-08, 06:52 AM | OOC: I am consfused. With Ilma flying 5ft up, can I still flank? The rules are a bit scarce on 3d issues ... Also: I could attack you guys with my sap, doing subdual damage. If you go unconsious, do you get to respawn, or do i just win ? Jack drops his x-bow to the floor, draws his rapier and moves onto the hill, next to Bartholomew. http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=B,M,30,34,on the ground;b=I,S,29,34,flying 5ft up;c=J,M,26,30,30,33,on the ground |
| Stormwind02-22-08, 08:01 AM | OOC: Regarding flanking, as I understand it yes you can, as long as a line from the center of the flankers square to the center of your square passes through opposite sides of your targets square, then I believe you can flank. Regarding unconsiousness, the recovery rules would apply. That is if your character/agent does nothing for 4 consecutive rounds then you are healed to half hp and teleported to your starting box. Round 3 Bartholomew 5/7 HP, AC 13 Ilma: 9/9 HP, AC 17 Dodge (+1AC vs Bartholomew) Jack 8/8 HP, AC 16 |
| MindWandererB02-22-08, 03:30 PM | Flanking: no, actually. Stormwind quotes the rule correctly, but in 3d you use cubes rather than squares. You'd have to run the line through opposite sides of the cube, which is impossible when we're both below. Bartholomew is undistracted by the presence of the newcomer on the hill. He takes another swipe at the elemental, finally landing a blow--that nearly slices it in half! He then puts his sickle away and, grasping his spear in both hands, takes a step back. Attack: 20! Damage [6]+1=7. http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=Bart,M,30,34,31 ,34;b=Ilma,S,29,34;c=Jack,M,30,33 |
| Stormwind02-22-08, 05:05 PM | Ilma turns her focus onto her nearest opponent and slams into Jack, but her attack from above misses [Slam attack: 14 vs AC16 (miss)]. She then starts evasive maneuvers [Dodge (Jack)] and moves around Jack, provoking an AoO [Jack - AoO: 10 vs AC18 (miss)][Bartholomew - AoO: 20! vs AC17 (hit); minimum damage -> unconcious], and falls. OOC: In the interest of speed I rolled the AoO's for both of you guys, ... I have to say MWB - the dice love you ... two criticals ... Wow .... Since it is irrelevant whether Ilma is now dead or just unconcious, I didn't bother rolling damage. |
| mucki02-23-08, 04:29 AM | With only one enemy left, Jack attacks Bartholomew, missing again. |
| Stormwind02-23-08, 06:14 AM | Round 4 Bartholomew 5/7 HP, AC 13 Ilma: unconcious/9 HP, AC 17 Recovery (4 rounds) Jack 8/8 HP, AC 16 http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=N,M,29,34,34,34 ,34,29,29,29,29,34 The four corners of the Hill are: (29,34), (34,34), (34,29), and (29,29). |
| MindWandererB02-23-08, 06:46 PM | Bartholomew shrugs and smiles at his fortune; he draws his sickle again and attempts to trip Jack, but misses. Since the roller is down, I used Invisible Castle. Trip vs. Jack (Touch AC 12) (1d20+3=10, 1d20+5=13) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1505511/). |
| mucki02-24-08, 06:33 AM | Jack concentrates on the remaining enemy, but misses again. (Attack vs. Bartholomew (AC 13) (1d20+1=7, 1d6+1=4) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1506058/)) |
| Stormwind02-24-08, 02:08 PM | Round 5 Bartholomew 5/7 HP, AC 13 Ilma: unconcious/9 HP, AC 17 Recovery (3 rounds) Jack 8/8 HP, AC 16 |
| MindWandererB02-24-08, 02:14 PM | Bartholomew misses again (AC 7). |
| mucki02-24-08, 02:59 PM | Jack lands a lucky blow and strikes down Bartholomew. (1d20+1=19 1d6+1=5 (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=2334#90288), threat 1d20+1=17 1d6+1=3 (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=2334#90289) confirmed) EDIT: Jack is repositioning himself at the south end to wait for Ilma. Too bad I left my crossbow outside the hill ... http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=J,M,32,29,Jack. EDIT2: I stumbled upon something that needs changing in the rules. Recovery rules do not restore equipment, so I could just loot your bodies for everything, and break all your stuff. That clearly is not a good thing to allow. Also, I still think that with the wording as is (healed to 1/2 your hp) you would not actually get any healing if you have full hp, but are disabled due to nonlethal damage. |
| Stormwind02-25-08, 03:52 AM | OOC: Actually regarding the healing, healing does heal nothlethal damage. Edited: (Interesting point however is that healing always heals an equal amount of non-lethal damage. To illustrate this consider an agent with 10hp who take 8hp damage and 14hp non-lethal damage. With the recovery rule this agent is healed to half hp, so the 3hp of actual damage is healed to bring the agent to 5hp, but this would still leave 11hp of non-lethal damage. Perhaps an alternation to the recovery rule should be considered to remove all non-lethal damage remaining? Regarding equipment: I agree something should be added in the recovery rules to prevent equipment from being looted/destroyed in this manner. Perhaps something like - "Whilst a character/agent is awaiting recovery, their equipment is protected from further harm or removal from their person by the arena's highly qualified sorcerers." Round 6 Bartholomew -3/7 HP, AC 13 Recovery (4 rounds) Ilma: unconcious/9 HP, AC 17 Recovery (2 rounds) Jack 8/8 HP, AC 16 Round 7 Bartholomew unconcious/7 HP, AC 13 Recovery (3 rounds) Ilma: unconcious/9 HP, AC 17 Recovery (1 rounds) Jack 8/8 HP, AC 16 Round 8 Bartholomew unconcious/7 HP, AC 13 Recovery (2 rounds) Ilma: unconcious/9 HP, AC 17 Recovery (0 rounds) Jack 8/8 HP, AC 16 Results (Start of Round 9) Maya's agent (Bartholomew): 0 rounds on the Hill Varjo's agent (Ilma): 0 rounds on the Hill Krusk's agent (Jack): 3 rounds on the Hill [Only occupant of the Hill at the start of rounds 7,8, 9] |
| Stormwind02-25-08, 04:02 AM | Ilma double moves forward, bypassing Jack entirely as she takes up a position on the other side of the hill. [Dodge (Jack)] http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=J,M,32,29,Jack; b=I,M,30,8,30,34,Ilma |
| mucki02-25-08, 06:09 AM | Jack charges Ilma and sends her right back to the ground. (1d20+3=22 1d6+1=6 (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=2334#90326), threat 1d20+3=20 1d6+1=7 (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=2334#90327) confirmed). He then moves east, waiting for Bartholomew to turn up. http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=J,M,32,29,31,33 ,34,32,Jack;b=I,M,30,34,Ilma EDIT: due to the CoCo rules on prepared actions, I cannot prepare to move in a way that makes it impossible for Bartholomew to get onto the hill without AoO, right ? | Stormwind02-25-08, 07:06 AM | EDIT: due to the CoCo rules on prepared actions, I cannot prepare to move in a way that makes it impossible for Bartholomew to get onto the hill without AoO, right ? As far as I understand what you're after, nope this isn't possible. |
| Stormwind02-25-08, 11:02 AM | @All: lonewolf mentioned a point in the tavern that I'd forgotten about, ... although it doesn't really change anything. Since Ilma is an elemental, she is immune to crits. This only affects the charge Jack made in round 9 ... I have deleted the crit confirm for that charge in the roller, although nothing changes as the initial damage is already sufficient for Ilma to go unconcious again. |
| MindWandererB02-26-08, 03:11 PM | Bartholomew runs back onto the hill. The rule about readied actions applies only to negating attacks--it's perfectly possible to ready to move in such a way that continued movement would provoke, or even be impossible. As such, I'm going to hold off on mapping the exact route.... I think you two have a good handle on how I'm playing this, so I'll just let you run Bartholomew yourselves while I'm at D&DXP. |
| mucki02-27-08, 05:02 AM | Well, in that case I would like to prepare to sidestep so I get an AoO if Batholomew tries to run past me. To speed this up, I am just going to roll the AoO as if it happened, if it doesn't just ignore the roll. Note: I am using Bartholomews first run in the fight as a basis for the map Jack steps in the way of Bartholomew and tries to strike him as he runs past, but misses (AoO: 1d20+1=8 1d6+1=4 (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=2334#90666)). He then follows up with another attack, but closely misses again (1d20+1=12 1d6+1=4 (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=2334#90667)). http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=B,M,55,30,33,30 ,Bartholomew;b=J,M,34,32,34,31,Jack |

| Stormwind02-27-08, 12:18 PM | Bartholomew strikes out at Jack with his sickle, attempting to trip him, but he misses wildly. He then puts his sickle away and, grasping his spear in both hands, takes a step back. http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=B,M,33,30,33,29 ,Bartholomew;b=J,M,34,31,Jack |
| mucki02-28-08, 03:56 AM | Jack follows Bartholomew (5-foot step) and tries to hit him with his Rapier, but misses. (1d20+1=8 1d6+1=2 (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=2334#90714)) http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=B,M,33,29,Barth olomew;b=J,M,34,31,33,30,Jack Tbh, I think that was a very bad move on Bartholomews behalf. Since the spear has reach, you will need to leave the hill to attack or take an AoO ... |
| Stormwind02-28-08, 06:26 AM | Perhaps ... I was attempting to replicate MWB's actions in round 4. Besides, Bartholomew can always pull out his sickle again ... Round 12 Bartholomew: 3/7 HP, AC 13 Ilma: unconcious/9 HP, AC 17 Recovery (1 rounds) Jack: 8/8 HP, AC 16 Results (Start of Round 13) Maya's agent (Bartholomew): 0 rounds on the Hill Varjo's agent (Ilma): 0 rounds on the Hill Krusk's agent (Jack): 5 rounds on the Hill |

He then moves 10' to the east to get onto the hill. OOC: Does Bart get to take AoO's (since he is staggered)? And if yes, wouldn't the AoO make him unconcious? Also: does the recovery counter actually start when you are at 0 hp? You still have an action left and occupy the hill, no ? |
| Stormwind03-07-08, 07:19 AM | Firstly, Bart is Disabled, not staggered (Staggered is when your non-lethal damage is equal to your remaining hp; Disabled is when your current hp is exactly 0). Regarding AoO's, as far as I know nothing in the disabled condition prevents a character from taking AoO's. All it does is limit you to a single move or standard action each round. Regarding the recovery counter, as written you can choose to start the recovery counter simply by doing nothing for the round. I don't know if we should add a clause that if you are counting down the recovery counter then you don't count as occupying the hill ... Personally I think it reasonable that you can do nothing and prevent someone else from occupying the hill, but if you are the only one on the hill then I would question whether you should be eligible for getting the points for 'occupying the hill' since you are counting down your recovery counter. Just my 2c. Round 22 Ilma: 4/9 HP, AC 17 Bartholomew: 0/7 HP, AC 13 Recovery (3 rounds) Jack: 4/8 HP, AC 16 Results (Start of Round 23) Maya's agent (Bartholomew): 0 rounds on the Hill Varjo's agent (Ilma): 4 rounds on the Hill Krusk's agent (Jack): 5 rounds on the Hill |
| Stormwind03-07-08, 07:25 AM | Ilma does another flyby attack on Jack, and slams into him (no AoO from Jack due to Jack holding buckler+crossbow) [attack: 19(hit); damage: 3] [Dodge (Jack)] Note (mucki): Ilma's AC vs Jack is 18 http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=B,M,33,30,Barth olomew;b=I,S,34,34,30,31,34,34,Ilma;c=J, M,29,31,Jack |
| mucki03-07-08, 08:27 AM | Sorry, I mixed up the state names, but what i was referring to was this: Taking move actions doesn’t risk further injury, but performing any standard action (or any other action the game master deems strenuous, including some free actions such as casting a quickened spell) deals 1 point of damage after the completion of the act. An AoO is not really a standard action, but a normal attack is, so I think that after an AoO Bartholomew should drop to -1. As far as recovery goes, I think that if you do "recovery" you should not also count as occupying the hill. Ie: Bartholomew could not recover by doing nothing and still prevent you from getting points. Otherwise that would be the most profitable option in most cases: Just run onto the hill, officially do nothing, do some AoO's and when you die run immediately back on (because your recovery is already up). Also, assuming that Bartholomew is again doing nothing I am already posting my actions for round 23. Jack reloads and shoots at Ilma again. After another miss (1d20+2=10 1d8=4 (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=2334#91491)) he drops his crossbow and draws his Rapier. |

| Stormwind03-07-08, 10:03 AM | An AoO is not really a standard action, but a normal attack is, so I think that after an AoO Bartholomew should drop to -1.I'd agree with that, however although it is logical, by RAW an AoO is not specified as a strenuous activity (i.e. an activity that would cause you to drop from disabled to -1hp) so it would need an Elder or GM ruling (IMHO). In this case it is irrelevant as Bartholomew missed anyway, but I agree that it is something that should be decided on. |
| mucki03-07-08, 12:07 PM | Well, I think its also a strenuous activity if you miss :) With Bartholomews recovery coming up soon, Jack does nothing. |

| Stormwind03-07-08, 01:02 PM | ok, MWB, Bart's up. However at this stage I believe I need to make a comment: If characters still count as occupying the hill when counting down the recovery counters, then with any two characters teamed up I believe I can make it practically impossible for anyone else to score. For example, consider char A and B, teamed up against char C and D: Round 1: Char A runs to center, Char B runs to center Round 2: Char A starts counter Round 4: Char B starts counter Round 7: Char A runs to center Round 8: Char A starts counter Round 9: Char B runs to center Round 10: Char B starts counter ... This can be avoided simply by stating that 'when counting down the recovery counter, the character is considered to be unconcious' ---- If we decide to change this as I suggest above then best if we simply continue from where we are ... i.e. don't retroactively apply it. |
| Stormwind03-07-08, 01:10 PM | Another note: There have been several 'decisions' etc made during this playtest. Once we have finished the fight, I will compile them all and post them into the playtest thread. At that stage, please check over it and if I miss anything please mention it ;) |
| MindWandererB03-07-08, 02:29 PM | Rather than "unconscious," I'd rather phrase it as "if you do nothing for a round with the intention of using it to begin or continue your recovery countdown, you do not count as occupying the hill for that round." I intentionally want to leave out "unconsciousness" so that things like blindness don't result in loss. Bart, naturally, runs back onto the hill. |
| Stormwind03-07-08, 02:39 PM | Round 26 Ilma: 4/9 HP, AC 17 Bartholomew: 3/7 HP, AC 13 Jack: -3/8 HP, AC 16 Recovery (2 rounds) Results (Start of Round 27) Maya's agent (Bartholomew): 0 rounds on the Hill Varjo's agent (Ilma): 4 rounds on the Hill Krusk's agent (Jack): 5 rounds on the Hill |

| mucki03-09-08, 08:10 AM | @Stormwind: that situation was exactly what i was getting at. And I agree with MWB, that its probably better to avoid terms that are already "defined states" in DnD, since it could have unforseen sideeffects (like people doing a CDG ;-) ). |
| Stormwind03-09-08, 08:39 AM | @mucki: Yep, from this point on, if you start the recovery countdown, then you don't count as occupying the hill. @MWB: Waiting for Bart's actions ... |

| Stormwind03-10-08, 05:02 PM | (Round 30) Ilma readies an action to move within the hill so as to cause Jack to provoke an attack of opportunity if Jack enters the hill. |
| mucki03-11-08, 08:26 AM | where are you standing ? |
| Stormwind03-11-08, 05:08 PM | http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=B,M,26,30,Jack; b=I,S,34,34,Ilma |
| mucki03-12-08, 06:37 AM | Right, to make this easier on ourself, I will just single move onto the hill. I think this will happen: http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=J,M,26,30,28,30 ,29,30,Jack;b=I,S,34,34,29,31,Ilma 1) Jack starts moving east, when he reaches (28,30) Ilma moves to (29,31) to threaten that square 2) Jack uses tumble to continue past Ilma (1d20+4=24 (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=2334#92357)). 3) Jack attacks Ilma, but misses by an inch (1d20+1=17 1d6+1=4 (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=2334#92358)). Now, just out of curiosity: What would have happened if Jack decided to charge Ilma ? After ilma moves, does he get the charge bonus, because he already moved 10' ? can he stop charging and continue with a normal move and attack (so that he doesn't end up outside the hill)? I originally wanted to charge, but decided against it because i couldn't figure out what would happen :) |
| Stormwind03-12-08, 07:57 AM | If Jack had charged, then I guess the following would have happened: Jack begins to charge, Ilma's ready action triggers (by RAW a readied action occurs just before the action that triggered it) and she moves to the side of the hill before Jack actually starts to move, Jack charges (but stays outside the hill) since Ilma is on the edge of the hill. Since a charge is a full round action, Jack wouldn't be able to do anything else that round, and he definitely couldn't change to move and attack. Round 30 Ilma: 4/9 HP, AC 17 Dodge (Jack) Bartholomew: -3/7 HP, AC 13 Recovery (2 rounds) Jack: 4/8 HP, AC 16 Results (Start of Round 31) Maya's agent (Bartholomew): 0 rounds on the Hill Varjo's agent (Ilma): 6 rounds on the Hill Krusk's agent (Jack): 5 rounds on the Hill |
| Stormwind03-12-08, 08:00 AM | (Round 31) Ilma takes a single step to the side and tries to slam into Jack, but she misses [attack: 15(miss)] http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=J,M,29,30,Jack; b=I,S,29,31,30,30,Ilma |
| mucki03-12-08, 08:11 AM | Jack tries to hit back, but misses also (1d20+1=4 1d6+1=7 (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=2334#92361)). Ok, but if your moves takes place completely before mine, then couldn't I just move somewhere completely else to completely deny you the AoO ? Apart form the fact: if your movement happens before mine does, how can it be triggered by something that only happens after I have started to move (namely me entering the hill). To stick with the charge example: When you block my way, so that the charge does not end on the hill, then your reay action should not trigger (I never touched the hill). |
| Stormwind03-12-08, 12:05 PM | Good question ... don't really have a good answer, just that afaik that the way it works. The problems with readying move actions is why we have the CoCo houserule that you're not allowed to ready an action to specifically avoid an attack. |
| Stormwind03-12-08, 12:06 PM | Round 31 Ilma: 4/9 HP, AC 17 Dodge (Jack) Bartholomew: -3/7 HP, AC 13 Recovery (1 rounds) Jack: 4/8 HP, AC 16 Results (Start of Round 32) Maya's agent (Bartholomew): 0 rounds on the Hill Varjo's agent (Ilma): 6 rounds on the Hill Krusk's agent (Jack): 5 rounds on the Hill |

| Stormwind03-12-08, 01:03 PM | (Round 33) Ilma steps forward and tries to slam into Jack, but fails and falls unconscious [attack: 10(miss)] @MWB: Bart is up again |
| MindWandererB03-12-08, 01:45 PM | Bart runs back onto the hill, yet again. You have the right idea on the readied actions--you can use them to prevent movement, or provoke consequences of movement, but by our house rule you cannot use them to make an attack impossible to perform because of position. |
| mucki03-12-08, 02:43 PM | Note: I am not exactly sure which weapon Bartholomew has in his hands. When he died it was the sickle. I don't think recovery changes your weapon, so it should still be the sickle. I think you are still have the longspear in the other hand though. Jack charges Bartholomew and hits him. (1d20+3=22 1d6+1=3 (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=2334#92402)). EDIT: prevented by AoO (see below) http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=J,M,29,31,32,31 ,Jack;b=B,M,55,30,33,30,Bartholomew |
| MindWandererB03-12-08, 02:57 PM | Actually, if you check, it was the spear that he was attacking with at the time, so that's what he has in his hands. |
| Stormwind03-12-08, 05:21 PM | Since Bart is wielding the spear, shouldn't he get an AoO against Jack for the movement part of the charge (from exiting the square 10ft away)? |
| mucki03-13-08, 06:02 AM | Yeah, he has his spear (my mistake), and therefore does get an AoO. I am not sure if the -2 AC already apply at the time of the AoO, but i included them in the roll. It doesn't matter either way. Missing AoO from Bartholomew against Jack in Round 33: 1d20+2=16 1d8+1=6 (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=2334#92415). Jack impales himself on Bartholomews spear and his attack never hits. |
| Stormwind03-13-08, 10:13 AM | Round 33 Ilma: -1/9 HP, AC 17 Recovery (4 rounds) Bartholomew: 3/7 HP, AC 13 Jack: -5/8 HP, AC 16 Recovery (4 rounds) Round 34 Ilma: -1/9 HP, AC 17 Recovery (3 rounds) Bartholomew: 3/7 HP, AC 13 Jack: -5/8 HP, AC 16 Recovery (3 rounds) Round 35 Ilma: -1/9 HP, AC 17 Recovery (2 rounds) Bartholomew: 3/7 HP, AC 13 Jack: -5/8 HP, AC 16 Recovery (2 rounds) Round 36 Ilma: -1/9 HP, AC 17 Recovery (1 rounds) Bartholomew: 3/7 HP, AC 13 Jack: -5/8 HP, AC 16 Recovery (1 rounds) Round 37 Ilma: -1/9 HP, AC 17 Recovery (0 rounds) Bartholomew: 3/7 HP, AC 13 Jack: -5/8 HP, AC 16 Recovery (0 rounds) Results (Start of Round 38) Maya's agent (Bartholomew): 5 rounds on the Hill Varjo's agent (Ilma): 6 rounds on the Hill Krusk's agent (Jack): 5 rounds on the Hill |
| Stormwind03-13-08, 10:17 AM | @MWB: I need to know Bart's position before I can post Ilma's action. Is he still in the same place he was in, or has he moved? |
| MindWandererB03-14-08, 03:28 PM | Bart waits at 31,30 and readies to attack the first opponent to come in reach of his spear. |
| Stormwind03-14-08, 04:40 PM | Ilma moves out, and seeing Bartholomew standing on the hill she circles around, entering the hill from the east. [double move to (32,34)] http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=B,M,31,30,Barth olomew;b=I,S,33,8,33,25,37,29,32,34,Ilma |
| mucki03-16-08, 06:12 PM | :bump: Erm, I believe its Bartholomews turn. If its Jack, then I'm sorry for the holdup ;-) |
| MindWandererB03-17-08, 01:15 PM | I thought it was Jack--don't he and Ilma wake up on the same round? |
| mucki03-17-08, 01:58 PM | Well, we do. But first Ilma wakes up, then its Bartholomews action, then Jack wakes up. |
| MindWandererB03-17-08, 02:26 PM | <slaps head> Right. Bartholomew moves over to the west and readies to attack the first opponent to come in reach. http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=Bart,M,31,30,29 ,32;b=Ilma,S,33,8,33,25,37,29,32,34 |
| mucki03-18-08, 04:17 AM | Jack runs towards the hill, but stops outside of Bartholomews reach. http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=B,M,31,30,29,32 ,Bartholomew;b=I,S,33,8,33,25,37,29,32,3 4,Ilma;c=J,M,8,31,26,30,Jack |
| Stormwind03-18-08, 11:07 AM | Round 38 Ilma: 4/9 HP, AC 17 Bartholomew: 3/7 HP, AC 13 Jack: 4/8 HP, AC 16 Results (Start of Round 39) Maya's agent (Bartholomew): 5 rounds on the Hill Varjo's agent (Ilma): 6 rounds on the Hill Krusk's agent (Jack): 5 rounds on the Hill |
| Stormwind03-18-08, 11:18 AM | (Round 39) Ilma attempts to dodge the spear [AoO: 14(miss)], but Bartholomew's readied action reduces her to mere particles [attack: 19(hit); damage: 9] as she makes a flyby attack against Bartholomew [attack: 16(hit); damage: 2] http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=B,M,29,32,Barth olomew;b=I,S,32,34,30,32,34,33,Ilma;c=J, M,26,30,Jack |
| MindWandererB03-19-08, 05:25 PM | Bart was readying as well, so there should be another attack in there. |
| Stormwind03-19-08, 05:51 PM | Forgot the readied action ... that's what you get when you don't look back at the previous page .... well, it seems that Bartholomew is now getting the luck of the dice gods .... ouch that was a hard hit ... (Edited previous post) Jack's up. |
| mucki03-20-08, 04:53 AM | Jack tries to tumble past Bartholomews spear, but fails (1d20+4=7 (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=2334#93173)) [/s]and impales himself on that spear again ... (1d20+2=22 1d8+1=8 (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=2334#93174)).[/s] EDIT: Luckily Bartholomew does not have any AoO left, so Jack survives Jack moves next to Bartholomew and attacks, but misses. (1d20+1=5 1d6+1=4 (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=2334#93186)). http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=B,M,29,32,Barth olomew;b=J,M,26,30,26,32,28,32,Jack |
| Stormwind03-20-08, 05:52 AM | Actually Bartholomews readied action has already gone off and he has already made an AoO this turn (against Ilma) ... so he can't actually make any more AoO's this turn which means that Jacks still alive and has still has his action for this round. |
| mucki03-20-08, 08:33 AM | Right, thanks. I fixed my post. |
| MindWandererB03-20-08, 02:09 PM | That raises a question, though--usual CoCo rules are that, when a correction is made, thematic rolls are kept and just moved up or down in sequence. If we follow that protocol, Bart will make his attack now, and it will be successful. But it's pretty strange to know the outcome of an action before you do it. |
| Stormwind03-20-08, 03:04 PM | True ... especially since you could then optimize your following moves based on knowing the outcome of your roll. It would give reason for not keeping thematic rolls (at least in separate thread/play-by-post fights) ... something to seriously consider at least. |
| Stormwind03-20-08, 03:06 PM | Round 39 Bartholomew: 3/7 HP, AC 13 Ilma: -5/9 HP, AC 17 Recovery (4 rounds) Jack: 4/8 HP, AC 16 Results (Start of Round 40) Maya's agent (Bartholomew): 5 rounds on the Hill Varjo's agent (Ilma): 6 rounds on the Hill Krusk's agent (Jack): 5 rounds on the Hill |
| MindWandererB03-20-08, 03:12 PM | Bart steps back and jabs at Jack, but just misses. [12]+2=14 vs. AC 16. http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=Bart,M,29,32,30 ,31,Bartholomew;b=Jack,M,28,32,Jack |
| mucki03-21-08, 06:57 AM | I don't think that reusing rolls is a good option in this scenario. Its the same reason why I did not change the movement into a charge after the fact (I would have charged if I knew you had no AoO in the first place). Jack 5' steps to follow Bartholomew, but misses also (1d20+1=11 1d6+1=3 (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=2334#93206)). http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=B,M,30,31,Barth olomew;b=J,M,28,32,29,32,Jack |

| MindWandererB03-21-08, 02:15 PM | Bat continues his desperate, end-game assault, and scores a hit... but an insufficient one. ([17]+2=19, [2]+1=3 damage!) http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=Bart,M,30,31,31 ,30,Bartholomew;b=Jack,M,29,32,Jack |
| mucki03-23-08, 12:37 PM | Jack follows Bartholomew with a 5' step and attacks him again, but misses (Attack vs Bartholomew (AC13) (1d20 1=4, 1d6 1=5) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1535549/)). hwx.it is down atm for me, so I cannot see the map (also the roll is from IC). From what I last saw Bartholomew was getting close to the edge of the hill. I will continue to push him in that direction (or the corner). |
| Stormwind03-23-08, 01:09 PM | Round 41 Bartholomew: 3/7 HP, AC 13 Ilma: -5/9 HP, AC 17 Recovery (2 rounds) Jack: 1/8 HP, AC 16 Results (Start of Round 42) Maya's agent (Bartholomew): 5 rounds on the Hill Varjo's agent (Ilma): 6 rounds on the Hill Krusk's agent (Jack): 5 rounds on the Hill |
| MindWandererB03-23-08, 02:13 PM | Bart is unwilling to be backed up any further, so he draws his sickle and attacks Jack with it. Sickle vs. Jack (AC 16) (1d20+3=16, 1d6+1=7) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1535621/) That turns out to be a good move, as it lays Jack low. http://www.identicalsoftware.com/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=Arena;a=Bart,M,32,29,Ba rtholomew;b=Jack,M,30,31,31,30,Jack |

| MindWandererB03-23-08, 05:56 PM | Bart puts his sickle away and returns to ths South end of the hill, readying to attack the first opponent to come into reach. http://www.identicalsoftware.com/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=Arena;a=Bart,M,31,30,Ba rtholomew |
| Stormwind03-23-08, 06:23 PM | Ilma moves out, and seeing Bartholomew standing on the hill she circles around, entering the hill from the east. [double move to (32,34)] [Dodge(Bartholomew)] http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=B,M,31,30,Barth olomew;b=I,S,33,8,33,25,37,29,32,34,Ilma |
| MindWandererB03-23-08, 09:58 PM | Bart just continues to ready. |
| Stormwind03-24-08, 03:14 AM | Round 44 Bartholomew: 3/7 HP, AC 13 Ilma: 4/9 HP, AC 17 Dodge(Bartholomew) Jack: -6/8 HP, AC 16 Recovery (2 rounds) Results (Start of Round 45) Maya's agent (Bartholomew): 7 rounds on the Hill Varjo's agent (Ilma): 6 rounds on the Hill Krusk's agent (Jack): 5 rounds on the Hill |
| Stormwind03-24-08, 03:20 AM | (Round 45) Ilma attempts to dodge the spear, as Bartholomew's readied action triggers, but he can't hit the elusive elemental [readied attack: 10(miss)], nor can he take advantage of the opportunity [AoO: 10(miss)], as she charges in [attack: 9(miss)], however her attack is just as ineffective http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=arena;a=B,M,31,30,Barth olomew;b=I,S,32,34,31,31,Ilma |

| MindWandererB03-24-08, 02:19 PM | Last time you got the AoO but not the readied attack--this time you remembered the readied attack but not the AoO.... |
| Stormwind03-24-08, 02:57 PM | Last time Ilma did a flyby attack (which provokes an AoO), but this time she did a charge (which doesn't provoke, unless I remember wrong). |
| MindWandererB03-24-08, 03:22 PM | Yes, it does--unless you're using something special, like Spring Attack, moving through a threatened area always provokes. That's the reason why I was using the longspear at all. |
| Stormwind03-25-08, 05:58 AM | Ahhh ... I'd missed that you'd put the sickle away ... editing AoO in now ... |
| MindWandererB03-25-08, 01:27 PM | Bart drops his spear. He attacks Ilma with his sickle, but cautiously, his actions focused more on defense than offense. Naturally, he misses. Combat Expertise and fighting defensively. [3]+3-1-4=1. But his AC is 17. |
| Stormwind03-25-08, 02:28 PM | heh ... playing it smart I see ;) (Round 46) Ilma continues to dodge Bartholomew's attacks and tries to slam into him [attack: 9(miss)], but somehow she just can't seem to land a blow. |
| Stormwind03-25-08, 02:29 PM | Round 46 Bartholomew: 3/7 HP, AC 13 Ilma: 4/9 HP, AC 17 Dodge(Bartholomew) Jack: -6/8 HP, AC 16 Recovery (0 rounds) Results (Start of Round 47) Maya's agent (Bartholomew): 7 rounds on the Hill Varjo's agent (Ilma): 6 rounds on the Hill Krusk's agent (Jack): 5 rounds on the Hill |
| MindWandererB03-25-08, 02:58 PM | Bartholomew repeats the performance of the previous round. Attack: 14. |
| Stormwind03-25-08, 03:38 PM | (Round 47) Ilma continues to dodge Bartholomew's attacks and tries to flyby attack him [attack: 15(miss)], provoking an attack of opportunity from Bartholomew as she does so [AoO: 5(miss)]. Jack's up ... |
| mucki03-26-08, 04:48 AM | Jack runs to the hill and stops just outside of it. http://www.identicalsoftware.com/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=Arena;a=B,M,31,30,Barth olomew;b=I,S,31,31,Ilma;c=J,M,8,31,28,30 ,Jack Note: I am trying out the new mapper. If this poses problematic i'll recreate the maps in the old one. |
| Stormwind03-26-08, 07:26 AM | Round 47 Bartholomew: 3/7 HP, AC 17 Combat expertise (-1 attack, +1 AC), Defensive (-4 attack, +3 AC) Ilma: 4/9 HP, AC 17 Dodge(Bartholomew) Jack: 4/8 HP, AC 16 Results (Start of Round 48) Maya's agent (Bartholomew): 7 rounds on the Hill Varjo's agent (Ilma): 6 rounds on the Hill Krusk's agent (Jack): 5 rounds on the Hill |
| MindWandererB03-26-08, 01:15 PM | Bartholomew attacks Ilma again (Attack: 5) but misses. He steps back, away from the elemental. I just noticed that Ilma used flyby attack, but no movement was noted. It must have ended up somewhere other than where the map currently shows. That means I'm not sure about my movement this round. |
| Stormwind03-26-08, 06:51 PM | Sorry about not including the movement, it was just 5ft straight up and then 5ft down and to the side so it effectively didn't really change anything with regards to position. I have taken that movement into account below ... let me know if there are any problems with it ... (Round 48) Ilma continues to dodge Bartholomew's attacks and flyby attacks him [attack: 20(hit); damage: 1], provoking an attack of opportunity from Bartholomew as she does so [AoO: 13(miss)]. http://www.identicalsoftware.com/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=Arena;a=B,M,31,30,30,31 ,Bartholomew;b=I,S,32,30,31,31,Ilma;c=J, M,28,30,Jack Note: During her flyby attack Ilma moves to (31,31) at 5ft height, attacks and then steps straight down. |
| mucki03-27-08, 10:08 AM | Jack waits and is enjoying the show. |
| MindWandererB03-27-08, 01:31 PM | Bartholomew is completely useless this round. Natural 1, for a total of -1! |
| Stormwind03-27-08, 03:24 PM | Round 48 Bartholomew: 2/7 HP, AC 17 Combat expertise (-1 attack, +1 AC), Defensive (-4 attack, +3 AC) Ilma: 4/9 HP, AC 17 Dodge(Bartholomew) Jack: 4/8 HP, AC 16 Results (Start of Round 49) Maya's agent (Bartholomew): 7 rounds on the Hill Varjo's agent (Ilma): 6 rounds on the Hill Krusk's agent (Jack): 5 rounds on the Hill |
| Stormwind03-27-08, 03:28 PM | (Round 49) Ilma continues to dodge Bartholomew's attacks and flyby attacks him [attack: 10(miss)], provoking an attack of opportunity from Bartholomew as she does so [AoO: 1(miss)]. However neither manages to hit their target. Edit: I figure that we should continue to the end of round 50 and then call a winner. It does raise the point of what we should do in the case that we have a tie ... I believe that in the case of a tie, then the characters that are tied (and only those characters) continue until one of them gains a point. Jack's up! |
| mucki03-28-08, 07:50 AM | Jack continues to watch the other two. |
| Stormwind03-28-08, 09:20 AM | Round 49 Bartholomew: 2/7 HP, AC 17 Combat expertise (-1 attack, +1 AC), Defensive (-4 attack, +3 AC) Ilma: 4/9 HP, AC 17 Dodge(Bartholomew) Jack: 4/8 HP, AC 16 Results (Start of Round 50) Maya's agent (Bartholomew): 7 rounds on the Hill Varjo's agent (Ilma): 6 rounds on the Hill Krusk's agent (Jack): 5 rounds on the Hill Bart's up for the last round ... |
| MindWandererB03-28-08, 12:40 PM | Bart just takes total defense (+6 AC). |
| Stormwind03-28-08, 04:23 PM | (Round 50) Ilma continues to dodge Bartholomew's attacks and flyby attacks him [attack: 22(hit); damage: 3], knocking him unconcious. Jack's up ... |
| Stormwind03-31-08, 10:11 AM | @mucki: waiting for Jack's action ... |
| mucki03-31-08, 10:38 AM | Sorry, I was gone over the weekend ... In a last ditch effort, Jack charges Ilma. He can score a threat (1d20+1+2=21 1d6+1=3 (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=2334#94214)), but fails to confirm it (1d20+1+2=13 1d6+1=5 (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=2334#94216)), leaving Ilma alive. He then congratulates Bart on his win ;-) |
| Stormwind03-31-08, 11:12 AM | Round 50 Bartholomew: -1/7 HP, AC 19 Recovery (4 rounds) Ilma: 1/9 HP, AC 17 Dodge(Bartholomew) Jack: 4/8 HP, AC 16 Results (Start of Round 51) Maya's agent (Bartholomew): 7 rounds on the Hill Varjo's agent (Ilma): 6 rounds on the Hill Krusk's agent (Jack): 5 rounds on the Hill |
| mucki03-31-08, 11:14 AM | Actually, Ilma is on 1/9 HP. I only did 3 damage and she had 4 hp. PS: The fight was fun! A 3 person play-by-post made it a bit slow, but i found it very interesting. |
