Fights Results: (tot. 18,747 xp) 1: Vs Aeryll Nalladar vs The White Hand; MindWandererB, TheMagister: Loss [3rd place] [+600 xp] [+666 gold] - The Druid's spell caught me off-guard. Never again. Of course, the Paladin hid like the coward he was. 2: The Harvester, Caterane: Loss [+600 xp] [+667 gp] - What is he doing here?! 3: Marcus Tallfellow, Macbrea: Win [+1,575 xp] [+1,750 gp] - The Gnome was wise to try and hide, but Wrath's keen senses prevented him from doing so forever. Without his weapons he proved no challenge. 4: Sola Nicous, Erithmu: Win [+1,350 xp] [+1,500 gp] - The foolish leader of the EYE should have known better than to try and face the son of an Archdevil. All his stealth and archery skill came to naught against the combined assault of Wrath, Malice, and myself. 5: Uilo, Dracazar: Win [+1,680 xp] [+2,080 gp] - The Druid thought me fool enough to follow her into her mist when I had a bow. Fatal mistake. 6: Sola Nicous, Erithmu: Win [+1,680 xp] [+2,206 gp] - This one was foolish enough to face me again after failing once, and paid the price. 7: The White Hand, TheMagister: Win [+1,680 xp] [+2,206 gp] - He is either smarter than he looks, or a complete coward. A pity - I was looking forward to adding a Paladin's blood to my axe. 8: Leif Goldeneye, Sunwolf: Loss [+666 xp] [+1,104 gp] - The Celestial Sorcerer was lucky he had his full compliment of energy attacks. Should we meet again soon things may well go quite differently indeed. 9: Aerryl Naldar, MindWandererB: Surrendered [+800 xp] [+1,293 gp] - The time of my vengeance upon her has not yet come. When I send her to her fate it shall be in the place of my choosing, not in her element. 10: Aerryl Naladar, MindWandererB: Win [+2,200 xp] [+3,278 gp] - Following her to that cave proved a good idea. My vengeance on her is now complete. 11: Saffron Brass, Vathelokai: Loss [+771 xp] [+1,465 gp] - She shall pay for this indignity. 12: Vs Gaston Dar'ath vs Sunstroke & Dronnar Darkjof; Waywreth, MindWandererB, DSugui: Win [+4,245 xp] [+7,226 gp] - Even matched against me the PSI member turned out to be my greatest ally, expending all his power in destroying the Half-Giants and leaving himself vulnerable. 13: Intercepted by Little Daisy and Loddick Saffrion; DSugui, Erithmy: Loss [+900 xp] [+1,674 gp] - How did they defeat my wards? That beast shouldn't have been able to touch me! Quest Results: (tot. 10,400 xp) 1: Miniquest: A Preying Faith (EL 5), King Uther: Success [+1,200 xp] [+1,708 gp] - The Trueblade Cleric proved weak without his weapon, and the Gnome was all too easy to convince. The EHTC's mission is fulfilled, and I can begin work on my father's - and my own. 2: Miniquest: Evil Spreads it's Wings (EL 5), King Uther: Success [+1,500 xp] [+1,708 gp] - Two Clerics sought to banish the Furies back to the Hells, but they were but a meal for my servants. Thier aid will prove useful in the coming events, especially if Virgo's words prove true. X: Frozen Quest: To Prevent Destruction (EL 6), King Uther: Success - The Giths have been halted, and I have gained some valuable information on a few mortals. The Halfling is more talk than skill, but the others will bear further watching indeed. 3: Miniquest: Gathering Darkness (EL 6), Iced: Success [+1,400 xp] [+2,000 gp] - It would seem I will not find the answer to why the Harvester is here that way. Perhaps another tactic is in order... 4: Quest: A Meeting with the Devil (EL 8), King Uther: Success [+6,300 xp] [+8,925 gp] - It would seem my mission here has changed. I must find a way to stop Mokriat or prove to my father what a threat he is. At least I have a powerful new tool to do this with. | King Uther09-07-06, 02:07 AM | Reading through the tomes taken from the library when he faced off with Mokriat's followers, Asran sits in his room, learning more about the past of the devil's war, as well as many interesting truths he was hid from knowing. One legend that continues to crop up, one about a magical devil who tapped in into the dark web of magic that permeated the lower realms. The legends also mentioned a powerful fire devil sealing the magic-bearing devil in a glyph to gain more power, ascending into an Archdevil. The interesting thing mentioned was that the glyph was put in a hidden place, a building that stands on an island in a large lake. Cross-researching books with the help of Virgo and Va'ria, the location is narrowed to the area by the Church of Divine Light, (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8390363&postcount=24) East of Nosdam. "What do you intend to do, Asran? The legends suggest your father may have something to do with this. And you cannot fathom what position this devil holds after that many thousands of years. And the glyph requires the blood of the innocent. While you may be glad to do that, it will be difficult to get away with that in the Theocracy." |
| Zevox09-08-06, 10:02 PM | Asran read the tomes with intense interest. Much of what was contained in them was unknown to him, which surprised him, given the extent of the tutoring his father and his servants had given him over the past two centuries on the history of the Multiverse, and the Hells in particular. It would seem there was much more to be known than he had been led to believe, and he could only wonder why that was. Given the implications in the tomes it wasn't conceivable that much if any of this was unknown to his father, so why not tell him? His tutoring had ended over fourty years ago, so clearly it wasn't simply being saved for later. Could it be that his father had not wanted him to know of this at all, had deliberately hidden it from him? If so, it carried implications Asran did not like. Those implications, Asran decided, had to be investigated. If they were true, he wanted to know soon, so he could begin to contemplate how to counter them. If they weren't, then the sooner he could banish his doubts, the better. And the fastest and surest way he could think of to investigate was to find a speak with this sealed Devil. "It is because of those legends that I must investigate this." Asran replies to Virgo. "If my father had something to do with this, it is strange that it was never mentioned to me - few of his past exploits weren't, and certainly none of this magnitude, or at least so I have been led to believe. As for this Devil's position, being bound, particularly for so long, leaves him at something of a disadvantage, no matter how much power he retains. And even if his power is great enough to overcome me, there is no guarantee he will try - most Devils would be grateful for release from such a binding by a fellow Baatezu, if thier savior does not try to enslave them." And, the Half-Fiend adds silently to himself, the notes he had discovered before may contain this one's True Name, which would render him no threat whatsoever. Of course they may not, since they seemed to focus on Archdevils and there was no indication this one was quite that powerful, but one never knew when dealing with such ancient writings. "As for the human kingdom there, I will deal with whatever troubles they give me when the time comes. Perhaps I can investigate this without thier ever knowing - it is not impossible to gather innocents and perform such a ritual in a single night, before anyone understands the significance of a few disappearances." By the way, I'll leave the Furies behind for this one. I'd rather not take the rewards penalties they give. |
| King Uther09-09-06, 01:17 PM | It takes a few weeks of preparation and travel, but by the evening of the beginning of Spring he finally reaches the theocracy. Descending upon the area like a cloud of darkness, Asran finds the place the legend tells of. It is a church devoted to the followers of a deity with this symbol: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y226/Arkazzan/HolySymbol.jpg It is a relatively new religion, for a deity called collectively "The Rapture," a supremely holy being. But the legends in the book spoke of it as if it had existed in the beginning of ages, when civilizations were just beginning and even the Hells weren't totally formed. The legends said that there was a sealed basement area, closed off long ago that housed the seal. As expected, there were no traces of it outside. The building was a 20ft tall church, smaller than some of the gigantic ones around, and it seemed as if it was hidden from sight, as if by magic your eyes would casually glance over it. There were a few windows opened this late, as well as a big set of double-doors to enter. Do you want thos entrances, or would you prefer to search for something else? |
| Zevox09-10-06, 10:34 AM | Though he does not immediately recognize the holy symbol, it seems familiar to Asran. A thought strikes him, and he pulls out the symbol he had taken from the priests who had attempted to banish the Furies. It was the same. Odd - if this religion was new, how was it that it was widespread enough to be found both here and in that southern kingdom, Promethia? Something was not right about this. Still, he could only discover what by continuing. Finding one of the windows further back from the main entrance, he enters the church, and begins to search for an entrance for the hidden sub-basement, wary of any acolytes or priests that may be about. A window will do. Asran's search modifier is too low to bother looking for anything hidden outside - might as well get in quick and start looking for the way down. |
| King Uther09-11-06, 01:39 AM | Asran stepped into the window, and the window led into a hallway which divided the upper floor in the middle. He began his searh in the Eastern wing, dodged a few acolytes as he made his way through the holy place. It took about 20 minutes fr him to locate the stairs, which he glided down intead of taking the chance of causing unneeded noise. The place was built like an ancient fortress, as if this deity's followers needed to fight in a war and defend from invasion. It had thick walls, and many ways to bolster defenses from the inside. Multiple points to bottle up enemies existed. After another hour of searching, it was clear he would need to interrogate someone to learn if there were any hidden rooms in this cathedral. Remebering he had found a library of sorts before, he went back to it, finding a scholarly cleric reading from a tome by use of a Light spell. He seems to radiate holiness, almost so much it made Asran sick. Your move. |
| Zevox09-12-06, 08:37 AM | Fighting down the sickening feeling of the Cleric's holiness, Asran drew his battleaxe, willing its ever-dripping blood to hold off reaching the floor for now so as not to alert anyone to his passing. Quietly he moved in behind the reading Cleric, bringing the blade up slowly as he moved, then as reached him bringing it around to rest before his throat. "Move or speak and your blood will join the rest on its blade." he said immediately, hoping to quell the typical reaction of mortals to this. As he spoke them, a thought struck him of how he could kill two Dretches with one stroke. "I require your cooperation with something. I know there is a hidden basement to this church. Lead me to it." Sorry I've been so infrequent in posting. This past week has been a pain between school, work, and homework. |
| King Uther09-14-06, 12:38 AM | It's fine. I missed that you posted at all. The cleric looks up, slightly surprised, but begins to reach for his quarterstaff when... Surprise round, then we fight. This one will go quick so we can RP more. Don't worry about time. |
| Zevox09-14-06, 11:39 PM | "I wouldn't try that if I were you." Asran warns earnestly while preparing himself for any battle to come. Surprise round: Tap tatoo of force screen. Would you like me to give some tactics, or will it be quick enough to do round-by-round? |
| King Uther09-15-06, 01:46 AM | Give me some tactics for this one. My goal is to finish this quickly, get to the next one quickly, hopefully have you win quickly, and proceed to allow the story to unfold. Also, I intend to pursue Asran's stories via quest despite my recent announcement. |
| Zevox09-15-06, 12:16 PM | Sweet, thats great to hear! :D Anyway, tactics, presuming we're just dealing with a typical 9th level Cleric, are pretty straightforward. Basically do full axe/claw/bite attacks, and use smite good on the first axe attack for +5 damage. Remember if hes human Asran gets +2 damage on every attack from favored enemy. If he brings out a more dangerous weapon than the quarterstaff, then stow the battleaxe, draw Hell's Cleaver, and sunder it. Then continue attacking with that and my bite. If he seems to be relying on spells, down a potion of protection from good at first opportunity. If he summons anything, protection potions as appropriate. If the force screen runs out, tap a second tattoo. If hp drops below half, use the CLW wands to get back above 32. Obviously, once he falls, secure him as a hostage and bring him back to consciousness with the wands so I can get some use out of him. |
| King Uther09-16-06, 01:37 AM | Asran begins full force, swing wildly at the cleric before he can react. All three of his attacks, starting with his accursed battleaxe, cut into the cleric, dealing a lot of damage. (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=619683) [Damage: 30] The cleric responds in the same way, blasting Asran with a burst of holy fire. Asran dodges out of the way of most of it, and is immune to some of what he gets hit by. [Ref: 20! (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=619687) Damage: 43/2=21/2=10] Round 2: Asran full attacks he cleric again, hitting him repeatedly until he falls unconscious. (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=619691) Taking him to the back of the library, Asran beats the older man awake. He looks up at the Archdevil, frightened. "Why have you done this? This is a holy place, and you trespass upon this place with your wretched being. This place was not meant for you." |
| Zevox09-16-06, 06:16 PM | Asran chuckles at the Cleric's ramblings. "I hardly care what this place was meant for, mortal." he taunts. "I am here because there is one here I must speak with, and I will not be leaving until I have done so, even if I must spill the blood of everyone within this building to reach him." He eyes the Cleric balefully, his gaze promising a slow death in return for any defiance. "Now, as I said, I know this place possesses a hidden basement. You will take me to its entrance, or tell me who will know its location if you do not." Asran will heal himself of that damage: 3, 4, (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=620835) and 9 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=620839), so three charges reaches full hp. |
| King Uther09-17-06, 04:14 AM | "I have read every tome on the shelf, and while there is a hidden basement it holds nothing in it. I have been there before. Behind that shelf in the Northern corner is a door. The book "The Hidden Darkness" by an unknown doctor is the key, as if opening it magically moves the bookcases. It seems this library was created prior to the rest of the building in ancient times for some unknown reason. Now that you have your answer, I trust you will be quick to enter and quick to leave?" |
| Zevox09-17-06, 09:22 PM | "Perhaps, perhaps not. We shall see." Asran replies. "You, however, will be accompanying me. I may have further need of you." Going to the shelf the Cleric had mentioned, Asran finds the book, and sure enough as he opens the book the bookcases move. He briefly examines the book, wondering if there was anything in it that may pertain to what he was here for, then closing it motions with his axe towards the passage that had been revealed. "You first." he says simply, certain the Cleric could piece together why if he had any mind at all. The idea with bringing him is that he may serve as the innocent whos blood is needed for the ritual. |
| King Uther09-18-06, 01:12 AM | As the passageway opens, it shows a walkway leading out to another set of rooms hidden from view. The architecture is confusing, as it appears to be made from a petrified ivory, perfectly frozen in time. A similarly made door stands in the way, which Asran makes the cleric open for him. In the middle of the next room stands a sentry. It looks like a devil, frozen as if petrified as well, holding a greatsword in the shape of a sharpened key to fit the obviously made keyhole in the door behind the fiend. The runes on the wall clearly mark the fiend as bound to this room for an eternity to defend it. Asran had seen similar before, mostly in legends and one time for real in his father's deepest chambers where three exceedingly powerful Gelugons protected an inner sanctuary none were ever allowed to enter. |
| Zevox09-18-06, 04:13 PM | "Interesting. I thought you said this place held nothing?" Asran says, giving the Cleric a supicious look. "Surely you do not consider a bound Devil guardian to be nothing." He eyes the petrified fiend a while longer, wondering if it would attack even a descendant of the one who had bound it here - if the books spoke true about his father having been involved in this sealing. Despite the obvious course of taking and using the key, he halts for a moment and takes out the tome he had brought with him - the one detailing the ritual he would need later to break the seal - and searches it for any reference to such a guardian, and how it might be passed safely. |
| King Uther09-20-06, 03:17 AM | The book details of the guardian sure enough, but the only way to bypass is to take the key. But touching the key activates the guardian, so Asran finds himself in a situation. |
| Zevox09-20-06, 03:41 PM | "A pity." Asran mutters. He has little desire to fight this guardian, but if he must, then he will. Closing and pocketing the book, he unslings Hell's Cleaver - his mighty greataxe forged of metals from the volcanoes of Phlegethos - from where it hung across his back. Being careful, he drinks one of the potions he has brought and fortifies himself with his innate power before acting. With his left hand he grasps the key firmly, then removes it from the statue... That means drink a potion of Prot. Evil and tap a Tattoo of Force Screen just before taking the key. |
| King Uther09-20-06, 11:07 PM | I figured you would've bashed the statue-like being and killed the creature without a real fight. Rolls are being done at home just for fun because I haven't rolled my own dice in months. As he grabs the key, the creature becomes lifelike, clawing out at Asran. The Archdevil backs off, going defensive. The devil reacts a little quicker, diving into combat like a crazed being for the key. One of the claw attacks hits Asran, making him bleed a little. [Damage: 6] Asran returns with his own combo of attacks, hitting perfectly with the axe. The axe imbeds itself into the neck of the creature, and as Asran pulls it out it takes a large chunk of devil flesh with it. [Damage: 37!] The devil is not scared, and with intense fury it fights even hard, clawing and biting at Asran. Its body looked nearly humanoid, similar to an orc, but tainted with the blood of a devil. Another claw hits, this one hurting just a bit more. [Damage: 9] Asran follows up with Hell's Bleeder again, and it hits the devil in the chest with a large echoing, audible thud. The devil pauses for a moment, which Asran uses to dig his hand into the creature's neck. Asran then leans over to the side, taking a large bite from the first axe wound, dropping the devil. [Damage: 12; 7; 6] ........................................ ........................................ ............ Taking the key, he opens the lock. The door indents, then slides open, revealing a hallway glowing with ruins. In the back is a symbol, affixed to the wall, which bears a striking resemblance to the symbols in the book. The runes alternate which glow the light blue color, creating a weird effect as there are no other light sources. |
| Zevox09-21-06, 04:00 PM | I rather figured it would be resistant to that type of thing - it would be a poor guardian if it were so easily defeated, no? Oh well. Asran uses his wand to heal those wounds. 3 charges does it: 9, 3, then 6 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=630610) hp restored. Asran stares for a moment at the symbol, a smile creeping up his fiendish face. Until now he had held a few doubts in the back of his mind, but here it was. "The seal." he whispers. Glancing back at the Cleric to confirm that he hasn't fled, Asran turns to the tome, seeking in it for the proper ritual to perform to unlock the seal and get the answers he came for. |
| King Uther09-22-06, 01:28 AM | It was a guardian in RP only. It was something more normal for the purposes of stats. More of a scare than anything. The tome mentions the blood of the innocent, that one must be slain for no other purpose than to unlock the first seal on the prison. The second seal isn't mentioned, but the word first is clear in the text. Ancient texts were rather confusing at times, but Asran knew the only way to proceed was to experiment. I figured I'd give you the opportunity to be evil. Show everyone the dark side of Asran. |
| Zevox09-22-06, 09:34 PM | Ah. Oh well, live and learn. Asran gives a slight grin at the tome's ambiguity. If specifics were lacking, he'd just have to improvise. "Mortal," he addresses the Cleric, "examine that seal and tell me what you think of it." The Cleric blinks in surprise at the request, but hurries to comply. As he passes Asran, the Half-Fiend surreptisiously brings Hell's Bleeder out from behind his back (which was to the side wall) in a low arc. By the time the Cleric knew what was happening, it was too late: the blood dripping from the Hell-forged blade was mingling with his in his belly. As he gasped for the breath to cry out in pain, Asran's left claw came around and encircled his neck, the claws digging into his asophagus and staying there. Discarding his axe, Asran's other claw dove into the wound it had created, eviscerating his intestines onto the ground below. The Cleric could merely stare with what little life was left in him at the mess his organs had become, mingling blood, fluid, and tissue with dust and dirt on the ancient stone below. But Asran wasn't quite through - he had learned well enough in the past how to keep a mortal alive through one last even. Gathering his infernal strength, he plunges his right claw into the man's chest, and with one deft motion crushes through the bone of his ribcage and extracts his heart. If the expression on the man's face was any indication, he saw its final few beats before his spirit lost its tenative grasp on his body and embraced death. Asran let the body fall by removing his left claw - and much of the man's throat - from his neck. Collecting the organs in his arms, Asran retrieves his axe - which has absorbed much of the man's blood - and walks up to the seal. Drawing the axe along its outer edge, he lines it with the blood it has absorbed, then poors the remaining blood from the organs across the glowing runes. Finally, he takes the heart in both claws and bites a large chunk out of it, swallowing the piece before hold the half that is spurting the last of its blood up to the center of the seal. If this seal wanted the blood of the innocent, it had certainly gotten plenty. Well, you asked for it ;) . Hope that wasn't too gorey - guess I may have gotten carried away. |
| King Uther09-23-06, 01:29 AM | That's what I need to see. One time Iced ran a quest for me where a child was trying to lead me somewhere but got caught on a floor sensor trap. Virgo backed up 50ft and shot the kid in the chest with an arrow to set off the trap. Good times. As the blood began to smear upon the runes, filling the cracks around the major seal, it began to glow, mixing with the light blue radiance until it was a gleaming red. It was then the 2nd seal began to activate, covering the ground around Asran. Like a zephyr of cool air a being appeared. It was tattooed from head to toe in the markings of Mephistopheles, marked as a slave. It had been sealed within this tomb for centuries with a purpose: To kill Asran. As the seal began to activate further, the book Asran was studying began to levitate in the air, magically activating a voice. "I omitted much of that text so you wouldn't find the truth. The legends point to my son ruling hell, that no demon or devil could stop him from doing so. So I trapped an Eladrin, and no he serves me. Me be usurped by a half-human? With the legends saying you could not be killed by demon or devil, we could not take the chance lest we awaken powers we do not understand within you. I would ask for your forgiveness for this treachery, but you know me well enough now to be beneath that. Die well, Asran." I hope that is not too heavy of a plot twist for you. I think it enlightens some things, but leaves enough in the dark to explore further. |
| Zevox09-24-06, 12:27 AM | A thousand different questions ran through Asran's mind - whats, whos, whens, whys. But with a conscious effort of will, he forced them down for the moment. Questions could be asked later. For now, only two things mattered: first, he was angry. Second, this celestial stood in his way. A look that was half snarl and half grin formed on Asran's face, the unusual combination resulting in a look that was more macabre than anything else, as he drew forth his greataxe and called up a shield. "Time to die, slave." was all he said. Well, its certainly a big one, but it seems pretty well-timed. Very nice - threw me for a loop there :) . Anyway, draw Hell's Cleaver (Greataxe) and tap a tattoo of force screen. I'm guessing this is a beefed up Bralani, which means holy weapon, which means I want to sunder it. Once thats done get out the cold iron battleaxe and hold it two handed (DR makes the claw attack useless anyway), then wail on him. |
| King Uther09-24-06, 11:08 PM | Rolls. (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=567) Rounds 1-2: The Bralani moves to attack Asran, but as the sword winds up Asran steps back, entirely dodging the blow. Asran taps the tatoo of Force Screen. The Bralani tries two attacks this time, but both of them find no success against the beefed up Asran. Asran tries to sunder the whirlwinding eladrin's scimitar, and with one good blow shatters the weapon. Asran 49/49 AC27 Bralani ??/?? |
| Zevox09-25-06, 08:15 AM | Asran grins maliciously, but says nothing. He is not in the mood for much talking to something he intends of killing. Quick-stepping back, he sheaths Hell's Cleaver and pulls out a smaller axe, remembering that like Fiends, Celestials were frequently more vulnerable to certain types of blades than others. 5' step, stow Hell's Cleaver, draw Cold Iron Battleaxe. Hold it in two hands for the +3 damage and start hacking. |
| King Uther09-26-06, 12:51 AM | CoCo roller is down. Real dice it is. The bralani shoots a burst of electricity out, Asran only able to dodge some of it as it singes his evil skin. [Damage: 20-10=10] Asran follows up with a vicious axe strike, crushing into the windy enemy. [Damage: 16] Round 4: The bralani fires another burst of electricity, with Asran faring just as well as last time, unable to dodge the damage but absorbing some. [Damage: 24-10=14] Asran gets another good strike in, but barely hitting the shifty celestial as the battle takes to the sky(in RP only). [Damage: 15] Round 5: Flying in the air with wills clashing, the bralani retreats a little to heal itself. [CSW: 20] Asran, in an upright position, floating in the sky, harnesses the inner evil within himself, hurling his bpdy at the bralani like a cannonball. He leads with the cold iron axe, and with great strength it severs the celestial body of the eladrin, splitting it in half like a practice dummy. [Damage: 50!] My metal dice roll more 20s when I am not playing. As the bralani dies, the seal breaks open, and from it comes a beautiful devilish being... |
| King Uther09-26-06, 12:55 AM | "Asran, you have finally freed me from my eternal prison. I have seen your future in my eyes, and that is why I was sealed here so long ago by your father. He was scared of the prophecy, and never-ending story which wraps up all life and unlife in this world within it. I am one of the six beings in the world able to view this tapestry of history and future. And your role is very big within the Hellish world. I am willing to serve you, and help you reach your potential, but you must do something for me first. You must bind me to you by speaking my name, something which has been hidden from me for a very long time." I have an idea where the six seers mold the future into what they see, with Va'ria being one of the others. |
| Zevox09-26-06, 10:57 PM | With the Bralani defeated, all those questions that had started to formulate in Asran's mind before came rushing back to the surface. A Prophecy that he would rule Hell? When did that happen, and who had made it? Why had his father not killed him as soon as he was born if that were the case? Why train him as a warrior and promise him control of one of Hell's layers? Why wait this long to betray him, and why write that tome to let him know this being existed? As his head swam with the many questions, implications, and theories, he missed the opening of the seal for a moment. Fortunately the Baatezu seer had noticed this, and waited until she had Asran's attention to speak. Her speech answered some of his questions, but left many others unanswered. "I see." he replied, contemplating this developement. For a moment he was at a loss for how he was to learn her name; but then he remembered the notes he had found with the tomes before. Opening them, he skimmed through the information on various Lords of Nine past and present and Princes of Hell, seeking... There it was. A Devil just below the rank of Archdevil, gifted with great magical prowess and a seer who could predict events without fail, sealed away long ago in an unknown - to the notes - location. "Senorda," he said, reading the name. "Senorda Lilyst, with your True Name I bind you to my service." he intones the ages-old ritual words. "And I have many questions for you. If my father had such a prophecy about me, why did he not slay me when he discovered my birth?" Yeah, not the name I originally had for her, but that was when she was just a Tiefling. I figured a full Baatezu deserved a less mortal-sounding name. :) Oh, and did you remember Asran's SR for those lightning bolts? That'll effect how many wand charges he uses healing. |
| King Uther09-26-06, 11:41 PM | The first one missed. Only 14 damage was dealt. "I am your servant. Your birth was shrouded in mystery, and your blood was questionable. The legend remarks that you will be killed by a devil, but rise as a god. Your father is scared of this truth, and will seek to kill you with mortals and angels alike to prevent this from coming true. Have you any other questions for me master?" |
| Zevox09-27-06, 08:18 AM | Healing takes only two charges, using the last two rolls I made for that last sequence that weren't needed then. 8 and 7 (http://boards1.wizards.com/leaving.php?destination=http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py%3Fid%3D630610) healed by them. Asran paused a moment, digesting that shocking bit of information. If it were true, it would explain many of his questions. Not quite all, but many. "It would seem there are many prophecies about me I was not aware of." he said, half to Senorda, half to himself. He was about to ask another question when his thought process reminded him of exactly where he was, and what he had just done. He decides to forgoe his remaining questions until a later time. "Just one for now." he says, giving a quick glance back into the corridor behind him meaningfully. "Did my father leave any extra traps to make sure I wouldn't make it out of here if his Celestial slave failed to kill me?" |
| King Uther09-28-06, 12:42 AM | "Not a trap in the strictest sense. There is a sensor made just for you, that when you enter it begins, and when you exit it will alarm your father that you have survived. I could tell you what he plans to do after that, but I think you know him well enough to make an educated guess. Expect his ties in the weakened Celestial Forces to make an attack upon you. They are as corrupt as ever. If there is nothing more, I say we greet destiny with a hardened fist. Your father will be a difficult enemy, but with patience and truth you shall overcome his treachery." At this point you can discover whatever you want with Asran, ask anything. She is a wealth of knowledge for you, but will choose to hide some things until Asran's understanding increases and he can accept what the truth is. |
| Zevox09-28-06, 02:55 PM | As Senorda reveals the final trap, Asran snorts. "Predictable. Nothing so overt as the previous trap, but one potential as deadly. As soon as that goes off he'll realize I know the truth about all this. Its just like him." Asran shakes his head, and it dawns on him for the first time that he is now going to be on his own effectively. He still had the Furies as his loyal servants, his ties to the EHTC and Virgo, and now Senorda, but his ties to his home would be gone once he left this building. Returning to Cania would be suicide until he had power enough to face his father, and likely he could only enter anywhere else in Hell for brief periods of time. For all intents and purposes, he was an exile on the Prime, and that thought grated on his sensibilities. That was one thing he could not allow to continue under any circumstances. He would find a way to fulfill those prophecies about himself and return to Hell, or he would cease to exist in the trying. A new resolve coming from that realization, he sets his will firmly back on the present. "It shall be as you say, then." he says to Senorda. "Let us leave this place and destroy any who would prevent it. The time for further questions shall come once we are no longer within the confines of the despicable shrine to the vituous that has been built over your seal." A grin slowly spreads across his dog-like face as he considers that fact. "And perhaps on the way out we can leave the place in a condition its owners will find less than appealing." We can do that after the third encounter. We're on week 4 already, so I'd rather his not turn into a big drain on both of our credits (yeah, I know you have plenty to spare, but I don't ;) ). |
| King Uther09-29-06, 02:06 AM | That was 3 weeks already. It was my bad in not updating the questlog. We're already done actually. "Then let us escpae this wretched place, with your father's minions falling at our feet." |
| Zevox09-29-06, 02:54 PM | Oh! I had thought when you mentioned that the "guardian" wasn't supposed to be an encounter that you had made it a lower CR thing as part of the second one. My mistake. Just to point out, I actually used 3 Tattoos of Force Screen (1 per encounter), a potion of SoF, and 6 charges of the wand. I'll edit this later to continue the RP - homework time. Asran stalked up the stairs to the temple, Sendora more gliding along than actually walking behind him, though no wings were evident on her form. Let his father know he had lived, he thought, his anger rising the more he thought about his treachery so long in the making. Let him know, so that he would know that his son knew of the prophecies, and that he would make sure they came true. And that when that happened, he would have his revenge. When they reached the main floor again, instead of going straight for the window he had entered before, Asran began systematically searching the temple. It wasn't long before he ran across an acolyte, up late in study much as the previous Priest had been. It was a simple matter to knock him out - so absorbed was he in his reading that he never knew Asran was in the room until his claws were around his throat, strangling him senseless - and then he carried the man with him, seeking for the largest room in the temple. As predicted, that room was the altar room. A massive version of the symbol he had seen before hung over the altar, dominating the room and radiating a holy prescence that was almost physically palpible to Asran and Senorda. Below it, the altar seemed carved of white marble, but from it radiated a variety of lights of differing colors, giving the room a surreal feel. Tapestries depicting various holy beings, golden statuetes and candelabras, white and purple carpeting, and all manner of other adornments dominated the area. It was nearly sickening to the Fiends, but Asran walked on, heading for the altar, and Senorda followed silently, not as affected by the place as he anyway. Two other clergymen were praying before the altar when they entered, but a hurled icicle from Asran's outstretched palm and spell from Senorda had the pair silenced before thier cries for aid could even begin. Asran collected thier forms too and continued on. Upon reaching the altar, Asran nearly recoiled from power of its prescence. Up close it radiated holy power just as greatly as the large holy symbol had seemed to from a distance. Mustering his strength, the Half-Fiend lay the body of the acolyte and the praying clergy down upon the altar, then drew his greataxe. With a single blow each the hell-forged blade severed the mens' heads, blood spurting from thier necks onto the altar. Sheathing the mighty weapon Asran tore viciously into the mens' bodies with his claws and teeth, desecrating the corpses and spilling thier blood and organs upon the altar, dimming its light as the red fluid flowed over its marble surface. Finally he hung the mens' intestines up upon the hanging holy symbol, and wrapped within them thier hearts. Landing once more before the altar, the power of both and the emblem noticably weaker, Asran called upon one of the least often used abilities of his heritage. With a blasphemous word of power he made the area unholy, severing the altar's ties to its God, at least for a time. The altar and giant symbol lost all of thier power then, and instead fairly glowed with an aura that reminded Asran of Avernus, Hell's first layer. Satisfied with his act of desecration - certain the Clerics would be far less than pleased with the condition of thier temple when they awoke the next morn than they had before - Asran backtracked to the window he had entered from and left the building, most of its occupants totally oblivious to his visit for the time being. It was time to begin journeying back to Gladius. Okay, getting late. I would describe a situation and have Asran start asking questions, but I need some sleep. |
| Zevox09-30-06, 11:22 PM | Once they were safely away from the Church, Asran landed in an empty region of land near the coast, away from any signs of habitation. "A few more questions, if you will, Senorda." he says. "If my father always intended to betray me like this, why did he have me trained both in Hell's politics and the arts of war? Why send me to Blood War skirmishes in which I could become more powerful? And why would he write that tome to even let me learn of you and this prophecy?" |
| King Uther10-01-06, 03:15 AM | "And that is the trickiest question of all. Why would he have trained you and allowed you access to knowledge and powers to strengthen you? Your father is not as autonomous as he would lead everyone to believe. When we were younger, your father and I ran across an altar existing deep within the Hells. It had symbols on it that neither of us had seen. It was a pale white, and glowed a serene holy light that calmed even the soulless. Your father destroyed that altar, and released the first seal of a being named Ajj-Kofal. This being called himself the Creator, and he offered Mephistopheles great power if he were to serve the Creator. That was how your father ascended to Archdevil. I am not saying your father isn't rebellious. He attempts to prevent Ajj-Kofal's plan the best he can. But there are times in which he must comply, and your life and education was one of those times. You are destined to rule over the Lower Realm after it fuses into one. You have a purpose, and the Creator is seeing to that for some reason. I know not whether you will choose to defy that destiny or use it. But know that your father will try to kill you every step of the way. Are there any details you need cleared up?" |
