Character Background:

An outcast of his own society because of his many "non-dwarf" affinities, Daeren has always sought out a place in his life where he felt he belonged. While he was born into a barbaric culture, when he first tasted civilization, and especially reading, he just couldn't get enough of it.

He found that while reading, his dwarven beard would get in the way, so he trimmed it frequently (much to the abhorrance of the dwarves who saw him), and he frequently went without meals while he read, so his somewhat tall dwarven body has slimmed down considerably.

Daeren still appreciates drinking and fighting, but his heart has found a love in magic. That magic has helped him in many ways improve his fighting - so to him it is a symbiotic relationship. However, he still faces shunning from his own people. He hopes that success in the arena will prove to his own people that, although an outcast, he is still a dwarf at heart.

Default Tactics:

Start behind the right hand column of the starting square (when facing the center obstacle) with a scroll of Shield in hand.

Buff in this order, if possible (shared as noted):

1. Shield (from Scroll) (Awk will benefit)
2. Enlarge (from Scroll) (Awk will not benefit)
3. Expeditious Retreat (from Scroll) (Awk will benefit)

If an opponent approaches, stop the buffing sequence to Rage/Charge in. If the opponent is still too far away and Exp. Retreat hasn't been cast, cast it now to make him that much faster.

While enlarged and raging, Waraxe has the following stats: +10 melee, 2d8+9 dmg, x3 crit.

If I get the opportunity, cast Ray of Enfeeblement on my opponent (if we are in melee, don't bother). If he tries to avoid me, knock him down with heavy crossbow fire. When enlarged, the crossbow bolts will also deal 2d8 damage.

If one of my buffs goes down, either cast it from memory, scroll - or just keep hacking away. This will largely depend on how well the battle is going.

Feel free to heal at 10hp or less.

Fight 1 : Duel with Sdentch (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6966406) (The Magister); Pitlord TelinArtho; Walked the Path! (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=7102442) [+900 XP] [+900 gold]
A tough adversary, but I managed to keep her pinned while my faithful wolf companion finished her off.

Fight 2 : FFA against Kregor (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6970304) (Laughing Dragon) and Grik (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=7022092) (Snommelp); Pitlord Luni; Walked the Path! (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=7166358) [+1800 XP] [+1800 gold]
Two tough opponents. I was lucky that Grik chose to attack Kregor instead of me. Then Silverfur took the enraged Grik by the throat while I pounded him senseless with my shillelagh.

Fight 3 : Duel with Coralias Tahlron (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=5181130) (Kaigan); Pitlord Nightbanegod; Walked the Path! (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=7197048) [+900 XP] [+900 gold]
The archer woman shot down Silverfur! I cracked her skull wide open for that affront.

Fight 4 : Duel with Yasha Tankou (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6914071) (Gonbow); Pitlord Luni; Walked the Path! (http://boards.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=7302028) [+1200 XP] [+1200 gold]
Nature rose up from the ground at my behest, hurting and hindering her. It took only one slap with my shillelagh to bring her down after that.

Fight 5 : Duel with Greevus (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6136724) (Cerebus13); Pitlord TelinArtho; Walked the Path! (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=7363955) [+1200 XP] [+1200 gold]
I waited for him to act, he waited for me to act. When I broke the stalemate he struck me with all his might. I was prepared and his best assault felt like a breeze to an oak tree.

Fight 6 : Duel with Zassl (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6912430) (Maraxus); Pitlord Sindorin; Walked the Path! (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=7393694) [+1200 XP] [+1200 gold]
I entangled him almost immediately. Then it was stones versus magic missiles. Obviously, the stones won.

The wind was biting their faces as the torrential downpour of snow covered everything almost instantly, including their footprints. All they wanted to do was reach the village of Iamden, a smaller village on the outskirts of the Frost Forest. A retired druid by the name of Kelto of the Frost had sent a message directly to Nexa via a pigeon about some interesting news on her home front. Nex grew up under his tutelage, and her master would not send for her was it not for good reason.

Daeren Stronghammer and Nexa were friends. Why? A couple of Displacer Beasts assaulted Nexa in the outskirts of Gladius. She could easily handle one, but two was very difficult. If it were not for Daeren's heroic charge, she might have eneded up as food on that day. From there they have raided a few dungeons and formed quite a bond, always having each other's backs. With the recent turmoil within Gladius, both considered themselves luckyto have a friend.

Daeren was, however, interested in one thing the letter said. "Dragon."

In the horizon they could see it. A beautiful small village that the snow seemed to fal less on, almost as if Kelto's very presence made nature respect him and those who lived by him. It had been some years since Nexa had seen her home. Her heart lept as the town came within view.

Let's have some fun. I'm going to use you guys to flesh out a frosty locale. Enjoy yourselves, because this adventure will make a large impact on the World of Gladius Thread.
TelinArtho

You know - I faced a dragon once, in the arena. Darn thing nearly took my head off... Luckily my axe had better plans fer it! Har Har Har!

Daeren's been talking Nexa's ear off the entire trek, and the snow seems to have only livened his mood - even with the biting wind and snowdrifts almost as tall as his frame. More than once, he just dived into the snow as if it were a thing to play in.

Up ahead, he sees the outskirts of the village to which they are heading, a stark contrast to the rest of the area because it seems virtually impervious to the snow falling around them.

So that's Iamdem, eh? Daeren scans the sky - as best as he can, since the snow blots most of it out - seeing nothing out of the ordinary he continues, Seems like a nice place to visit. What's that beyond it? Trees? Up here? Never thought I would see that. Any of your kin in there?
Usurpator

10-06-05, 03:26 PM
Nexa stepped lightly through the snow, trying to guide her horse and the pack mule through the sometimes treacherous drifts. It had been quite some time since she had visited the reclusive Kelto, but during her tutelage she had found that a warm hearth rested beneath the man's sometimes icy exterior. It had been an arduous journey, but with the joy of the reunion in sight her spirits lifted and she dusted the snow of the cap of her cold-weather outfit as she removed it from her head.

"There are a few of my kin here, but it takes a particular kind of elf to try and make a living here. Most prefer the more temperate regions to the south, but I rather like it here. You can almost feel the raw power of nature here. I am glad we found the village though, I feared we would get lost in the blizzard and I don't think the animals would have lasted one night out in this weather."

Silverfur growled.

"I'm sorry Silverfur, I don't mean you of course." Nexa said as she stroked his thick fur.

She did wonder what Kelto had to tell them. His message had been rather cryptic, and cryptic messages were rarely a good omen.

"I think we should go and see Kelto as soon as possible." She said to Daeren.
King Uther

10-06-05, 03:31 PM
The two of them approached Kelto's home, carved from a huge boulder somehow. Nexa had always wondered how he did that, but he kept secrets like that to himself. Kelto was warming his hands by his fireplace, and greeted them with a smile. He ran over to Nexa to give her a hug, as he looked on her as a daughter.

"Sit, sit. I know it's been a long journey. Nexa, I am so glad to see you. you look a bit more weathered and stronger since we last met. First, before we get down to business, tell me what has been going on. I have longed to hear of your adventures into the world.

And who is this? I am Kelto of the Frost, retired 8th chair of the Great Druid Council. A friend of Nexa's is definitely a friend of mine. Consider yourself welcome to stay here anytime."
TelinArtho

10-06-05, 03:43 PM
Daeren Stronghammer, sir. Yes indeed, a friend of Nexa's - ever since that unfortunate day with the displacer beasts... Daeren relives the memory of a fun and hard-working day fighting the creatures.

I also have a penchant for Dragons you see. And once I heard that one might be the cause of trouble up here - well, I had to practically twist Nexa's arm to let me help her. I've fought one before - in the arena's - but it was merely a small one... Since then, I've been reading up on the creatures as much as I can.

If your problem is indeed a dragon - I hope Nexa and I are a little better prepared for it than I was for my first encounter. Daeren pauses and checks his waraxe as if thinking for just a moment that he had left it back in Gladius.

So what's the problem anyway? A little town like this has got to have plenty of 'em without any beasties coming up - but I imagine the beasties come up frequently...

"It feels good to be back. It's only now that I stand here that I realize how I've missed this place."

SIlverfur immediately sets himself down comfortably on one of the rugged pelts that serves as an imprompty carpet.

"I have indeed had many adventures and overcame many challenges during my journey, Gladius seemed like fertile soil for my path and I feel enriched in many ways. Strangely enough I feel polluted as well, the bustle of the city has a peculiar affect on one's being, it almost felt like I was shriveling like leaves on a tree preparing for the coming winter. One particular character stood out during my tenure as a Gladiator. He was named Balbanes, and kept on challenging me, insisting that my soul needed to be saved. I felt fear when I met him, and you taught me that a wise person always pays heed to her instincts, so I did. Even though I feel our paths are linked somehow; I was often matched against an opponent he defeated a week before. Even my friend Daeren fought him recently.

But enough about my troubles, tell me what is troubling you. I think Daeren likes to know as well, he has been a vast friend during my trip here, always in high spirits, but he is a man of action, right Daeren?"
King Uther

10-06-05, 05:15 PM
"There has been a dragon. A massive white dragon that has plagued this countryside. With it has brought a strange disease. I have to stay here for if I leave this village could easily fall. I called for you because I ened you to travel into the forest, find the dragon, and kill it. With it came the disease, so it is necessary to discover the disease's nature so I can find a cure. This will not be easy. If there are any questions, please ask. You need to know as much as possible before departing."
Usurpator

10-06-05, 05:23 PM
That is ill news indeed. What do you know about the nature of the disease? You always taught me that disease is part of the natural balance, and that it serves to weed out those among us to weak or infirm. I suspect this disease you mention also attacks the strong and healthy?

And do you have any information about the general location of the dragon's lair? It hasn't attacked Iamden yet, or has it?

From what you taught me I know that white dragons are generally not known for clever strategies, maybe this one has formed some kind of alliance?

Nexa looks at Daeren to see if the dwarf has any questions to ask of Kelto.
TelinArtho

10-06-05, 10:17 PM
Well, anything at all about the dragon would be nice - anything leading us to him would be great. If it has allied itself with something up here - that's another problem altogether - and then maybe it is acting on the instruction of others... the chain could be endless... Daeren drifts off, fathoming a vast network that links all the way back to his childhood... A minute later, he's back to reality: Sorry about that. Sometimes, I just drift...

Has there been any new developments of the town that may have drawn the attention of the dragon? Can't seem to get a handle of why it chose here and the now.

The disease could be anything. I hope it isn't related and is merely a coincidence. If it isn't - the dragon is definitely working with someone or something else.

Daeren takes an offered cup of tea and drinks it thoughtfully.

We should go soon. Blast this snow though - is it morning or evening?
King Uther

10-07-05, 04:31 PM
Hmmm, I thought I replied last night.

"There have been some recent druidic activites within the woods. None of them are familiar with me, but I always support lovers of nature. To be honest, not a single one has approached the village, spoken to me, or sought refuge from the dragon. That is chilling news."

He waits a second, deliberately using a pun.

"I guess the only thing I can offer you is these potions. They will stave off any ultimately cold conditions should you find yourselves deep in the snow. Time is of the essence."

He hands over 2 potions of Endure Elements.
Usurpator

10-07-05, 05:21 PM
Thank you for your gracious offer, I hope we don't need them. Fortunately we came reasonably prepared against the cold climate.

But other druids near here? And they haven't tried to contact you? How quaint.... I wonder what their motives are.

Have you seen any symptoms of the disease? Why is time of the essence, who have been affected? Some people in the village, just the animals in the woods, who?

Nexa is hoping that the people she knows here haven't been affected yet, but she fears the worst now that Kelto has impressed such urgency upon them.

I see that although I have listed a scroll of endure elements in my expenses, due to my hurrying in getting Nexa ready for the quest, I forgot to add the scroll to the carried equipment. Additionally, I mistyped putting 2 scrolls of mage armor in my list, instead of 3 (as seen in accounting).

Additionally, I would like to know how much prebuffing has been possible. Nexa liked to have cast as many goodberries in advance as possible, since the spell's duration is 3 days. It's good for nourishment for us and the animals during the preceding trip as well.
TelinArtho

10-07-05, 05:58 PM
Hmmm... I cast the spell as a prebuff for the quest. If you'll allow me, I'll switch it out for a burning hands. If not - I'll be fine with it as a pre-buff (its what I was expecting anyway).

Yes, thank you for the offer of the potion - but I myself cast the spell this morning - and will again tomorrow if need be.

These new druids are curious indeed. Have you sought them out to talk with, or have they been specifically avoiding you? They sound like they might be a place to start with investigation into the dragon.

Daeren seems resolved that some answers may be found in these new druidic activities (for ill or good, he does not know). He seems to indicate that leaving sooner would be better than later.
King Uther

10-08-05, 10:58 AM
"There are 3 families that have been affected. It affects children first. It has a harsh cough, it then weakens you greatly, and then your skin grows a green tint and burns off before you die. It takes 3 days to kill you. Be careful."
Usurpator

10-08-05, 12:21 PM
If you can point us in the right direction, we will be off immediately. No sense in sipping a quiet cup of tea together while families are dying. I hope when we meet again it'll be under more fortunate circumstances.

Nexa briefly embraces her old master and then prepares to leave.

Coming Daeren?
TelinArtho

10-08-05, 02:58 PM
Yes - let us get going.

Daeren shakes Kelto's hand and bids him a good few days while they are gone. He is absolutely certain they will return with the answers that Kelto needs - such is the stubborness of his resolve.

Once they leave the town, Daeren will be walking with his crossbow in hand and loaded
Usurpator

10-08-05, 03:28 PM
Daeren, you better keep these and use them when the time is right. Nexa hands him three scrolls of mage armor.

Nexa will try to stable her mule that carries most bulky equipment before leaving. She will tell Silverfur to march up front: he should be able to pick up any recent tracks by scent. Nexa will walk with her sling loaded and ask her warhorse, Clover, to heel.

I see I also forgot to add an extra feat for Silverfur from his third hit dice. I wanted to choose Ability Focus(Trip). Just like Daeren, Nexa has cast Endure Elements as prebuff each evening during her travels at herself and Clover (I am assuming Silverfur's coat protects him sufficiently from the severe weather)
TelinArtho

10-08-05, 04:18 PM
Ability focus won't really help for trip, since there's no saving throw involved.

What's this? Ah some protection for yourself, yes I remember you telling me that you'd need some help with them. No problem.

Daeren takes the scrolls and adds them to his own for future casting.
King Uther

10-10-05, 02:17 AM
The woods were covered in two feet of snow. Walking became a little difficult. Both of them felt rather cozy, however, simply because of the Endure Elements spell. So they continued their march into the woods, seeking out the druid sect that had moved in. It was then that Nexa heard a noise. Up ahead in a clearing was an elf. She was tenind the wounds of a brown bear. After she applied some doses of healing aid, the bear rose again. But something interesting caught Daeren's eye. The bear was dead! You could see through its intestines for there were none! The rib structure was visible. Its face had some teeth marks in it. The elven woman then proceeded towards a different corpse, this time a badger.
TelinArtho

10-10-05, 11:23 AM
Whispering to Nexa: Hey that's not right. I'm going to try to stop her before she does the same to the other animal

Daeren lifts his crossbow to a ready position to fire if the elf starts to cast again.

If she doesn't cast again, Daeren will cast Mage Armor from one of the scrolls on Nexa next round.
Usurpator

10-10-05, 01:43 PM
In elvish: "Kinswoman, what are you doing here all alone with a dangerous dragon on the loose. What did you do to those animals?"

Nexa is highly suspicious, and prepared to for any hostile response from the woman. She is not in the habit of putting bolts into strangers before making certain that they deserve to die, however.

If the woman makes a hostile move, hit her (and any creatures if possible) with an entangle.
TelinArtho

10-10-05, 05:30 PM
Anyone who is animating animals from the dead under the pretense of being a druid falls into the category of: Shoot first, ask questions after they are dead. In other words, Daeren feels that the animation of the dead animals is the "hostile" action you are looking for...

However, feel free to parlay - if she tries to cast a spell, she'll get a good bolt in the noggin'
Usurpator

10-10-05, 05:56 PM
No problem. That's what a good team is all about, compensating for the other's weaknesses. :)

Besides, with both sides aware, but combat not joined or initiative not yet rolled, we're not able to ready actions anyway. Who's faster on the draw depends on initiative now.
King Uther

10-11-05, 11:49 AM
The druid turns around, and the look on her face reminds Nexa of a rabies-infested dog. Her mouth is slightly chewed off, and she hisses almost as if she had lost the spark of life. She begins to transform into a creature, and her and the bear move forward for some meat.
TelinArtho

10-11-05, 12:34 PM
Okay - drop the crossbow, draw and cast Mage Armor on Nexa from the scroll.

10-11-05, 12:43 PM
By the Thunder Oaks of Coromon! Nether Spirits!

Cast entangle, try to get both opponents inside, and then as far from any edge as possible. (without getting us caught of course)
King Uther

10-12-05, 12:46 AM
The ground begins to shed snowy roots that wrap around the two approaching creatures. One of them, the original druidic transformer, escapes the spell effect while the re-animated bear simply gets caught up in the massive growth.

Daren reacts by casting Mage armor, as an invisible force surrounds him, protecting him from blows(he hopes).

The entrapped bear tries to break free, (Str check: 12 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=164588) ), but gets further trapped within the web of roots.

The druid finishes her transformation, an augmented Dire Bat. She flies high into the air, readying to assault them from the air.

In case you didn't notice, Initiative Order:

2. Daeren
3. Bear
4. Evil Druid

10-12-05, 08:38 AM
Since the druid-abomination seems to be the bigger threat, Nexa attacks her with the sling while moving away from Daeren to decrease the chance of both being caught in an area of effect spell.

Take her out, Daeren!

Shoot and reload sling, then single move away from Daeren, taking cover behind a tree if possible. Order Silverfur to guard a spot some distance away from both of us.
TelinArtho

10-12-05, 09:29 AM
Mage armor was to be cast on Nexa - not Daeren (Daeren has armor - that's why...)

Daeren draws a small globulous back from his belt and holds it in his hands, waiting for the druid-dire bat to come closer.

Daeren draws a tanglefoot bag and readies to throw it at the druid if she comes within 20ft of him

Daeren, who cast mage armor on Nexa last round, draws a tanglefoot bag from his belt, preparing to mess up the now large bat that wishes to combat him.

The bear tries to escape his captivity, (Str check: 18 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=166098) Fail), but is unable to wriggle free of the tree roots.

Daeren, angry at himself for missing the druid so widely, draws his waraxe and swings it at the bat.

"Reach in and focus, Daeren. That's the only way we are going to beat her!"

Nexa orders Silverfur to attack the bat. Then she circles around the Dire Bat, trying to set up a flanking position if possible, drops her sling, draws her quarterstaff and takes a double-handed swing at the abomination. She dodges it, of course.

Nexa drops her sling, moving around the side, setting up a flanking position for the following round.

Silverfur moves up, biting at the druid. (Attack: 10+6=16+2=18 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=166126) vs AC20-2charge Damage: 8 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=166126) )

Would it be possible for Silverfur to try and use his Trip ability when he hits? It is free and carries no risk, so assume he will always use it unless I specify otherwise....

Oh, I wanted Nexa to attack this round, from the distances and the map I judged it could be done. Attacking is more important than flanking, especially since Daeren is under heavy attack, and flanking might not be possible if the druid is 5 ft. up in the air, couldn't tell.....
King Uther

10-14-05, 03:27 AM
Nexa, Silverfur, and Daeren coordinate their attacks, smashing the druid from 3-ways. (Attacks(Daeren[forgot to rage], Nexa, Silverfur): 23, 22, 11 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=166403) Combined damage: 19 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=166403) )

Nexa charged forth, swinging her quarterstaff wildly. She owed Daeren much, and in no way would she let him down despite the movements of this feral druid. Her staff comes down, flopping onto the dire bat's head, knocking it towards the ground. Daeren, a rage swelling inside of him, swung upwards his gorgeous waraxe. As he began to swing upwards, he found the tip of his axe drive entirely through the bat's head! A small blood spatter graced his right cheek, and the drid fell to the ground, returning to her original form.

"Well done Daeren! That last blow with that wicked axe of yours did the job. Now lets end this and take care of that unnatural bear."

Nexa drops her quarterstaff and picks up her sling (or draws a new one if she has to move to get it), loads it and launches a bullet at the trapped bear.
TelinArtho

10-14-05, 10:21 AM
Sucks that I'm raging - but I'll manage. Daeren will sheathe his waraxe and get his crossbow.

Let's drop this thing before it gets free shall we?

Daeren will position himself abreast of Nexa if possible. If it gets free before Daeren goes - Daeren will not sheathe the waraxe and will move to intercept and ready to attack.
King Uther

Heh.

Nexa prepares herself to knock down this bear. She lifts up her sling, putting a bullet into it. The bear escapes, running full speed at the both of them! It's loud growl echoes through the snowy forest, but as it charges its body slowly loses life, and as it swings its claw Daeren easily moves to the side, cleaving its head off with a simple strike of his axe. The animated bear lasted only a moment, and as soon as the shapeshifter died so did the bear.

10-15-05, 04:45 AM
"Acorns! What was that, what happened to that Bear?"

Nexa takes another look at Daeren and the blood splattered all over his tunic.

"Are you allright?"

Nexa will give Daeren some goodberries is she was able to precast them (I can imagine there were no berries to be found during our journey here in the last three days), otherwise Nexa will use her wand of CLW to cure Daeren. Then she will see if she can stabilize the druid, she might yield important information.

After that an inspection of the bear corpse and badger corpses is in order as well, but from a bit of a distance. Nexa is wary of the disease they might be carrying.

If no good leads are found, let Silverfur follow the druid's scent track if possible to find out where she was coming from.

Oh, for future reference: bullets count as ammunition, reloading a sling is a free action.

I do seem to be a little hurt here - some healing certainly would be nice. Thank you

"I agree, better keep our distance. This disease squanders nature's resources in such an abhorrent fashion, if these abominations of druids are spreading this disease, we should put a stop to it immediately."

Can Nexa discern what kind of creature made the teeth marks that killed the animals?

If no additional clues can be gotten here, Nexa will give Silverfur a track command in an attempt to track back the druid to the place he came from. If that fails they will continue following her old tutor's directions.

I don't know if this will work, because 3rd lvl+ Druids are supposed to leave no trails in natural surroundings, possibly this includes scent trails.
King Uther

10-16-05, 02:52 AM
A loud shrill is heard in the distance. Daeren immediately discerns this as a dragon's howl. The marks on the animals are clearly made from a mobile, clawing beast. A dragon of considerable size could easily be the culprit. A cold, Northern wind began to blow, signifying a shift in the climate. Nexa recognized this as what it was. She urged Daeren to hurry up his step. A blizzard was coming, and if they did not make it cover they might surely die under a pile of snow.
TelinArtho

10-16-05, 12:02 PM
A Blizzard? Come on - there's no sign of that... Its just snow after all...

Well, fine, if you want - let's find a nice place to set up shop for a little while. Maybe we can construct a makeshift barrier against the wind and snow using a couple of closely knit trees and branches from others? Or do you think its better to just find a cave or something that we can actually hide in? You're the nature expert - you tell me.

"In this weather a cave or another kind of natural shelter like a rock overhang would be preferable. We don't have a lot of time and I don't think a makeshift shelter would do. I am especially concerned about Clover." Nexa indicates her horse. "I don't think she would last through the blizzard. Nature did not construct all her creations as sturdy as she did dwarves."
King Uther

10-16-05, 06:57 PM
They proceeded North, and after 45 minutes of walking Nexa spotted with her keen eyes the entrance to a dry cave. The opening was fairly large and wide. Nexa entered the cave first, quietly trying to discern any natural threats. With her ability with animals, she could easily calm the frightened emotions of any animal that lived inside. What she saw made her sick to her stomach....

A small cage was in the center of a rather large cavernous room. There was a small, frozen lake on the western side of the room. She rushed forth to free them as quickly as possible, Daeren standing still as he did not understand exactly what was going on. Then Nexa stopped as well. The sound of a deep growl paralyzed her, and in the dark cave the only thing she could see was the glint of a big eye close to the ceiling.
TelinArtho

10-17-05, 09:56 AM
Daeren, seeing Nexa stop in her tracks and looking upwards, whispered to his companion:

Daeren strained to see the problem from where he was, while instinctively, he pulled his waxaxe from its holder.

Nexa takes a 5 ft. step towards the Wolf cage, then draws and throws a tanglefoot bag at the dragon.

Since Nexa has Evasion, she should take no damage from the dragon's breath weapon on a successfull save.

Since only 45 minutes have passed since the last battle, the armor spell Daeren cast from the scroll should still be active.

Shaken does not give -2 to AC: "A shaken character takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks." So Nexa should be at AC 21 not 15.

Sorry, King Uther, but Nexa moved back 5 ft. last round precisely to avoid a full attack. She was a 10 ft. at the beginning of round 1, and thus should be 15 ft. from the dragon after that 5 ft. step. I see you didn't move her on the map, she should be at the upper right corner of the square she started in. Since only the dragon's bite has 10 ft. reach, it should be able to do one bite attack at most.

EDIT: I also see that the dragon made a '10 ft. step', so even if Nexa was standing in her original position (which she didn't) the dragon wouldn't get a full attack against her. Assuming it wasn't affected by the tanglefoot bag or was able to break free immediately.
Usurpator

10-19-05, 03:48 AM
"Silverfur, guard Daeren" Nexa point at Daeren while she adresses her wolf companion and then makes a backward flip to stay out of reach of the advancing dragon.

This is assuming the dragon only hit with his bite attack and Nexa was able to move to the upper right corner of her starting square the turn before.

Nexa gives Silverfur the guard command with Daeren as the target. She takes Total Defense and then moves around the wolf cage, ending behind it, the cave wall at her back. She will tumble if neccessary to avoid an AoO, but reaching the target square has priority (since Tumble costs double movement), so she can Tumble only the first square. In the target square she should have cover from the dragon from most angles, which together with Total Defense should bring her AC to 31.

EDIT: since I am doing nothing else with that move, draw the wand of CLW while Nexa is moving back.

In this I am also assuming that a 10 ft. long sturdy cage holding three mature wolves cannot be easily brushed aside by a dragon the size and strength of a heavy warhorse.
TelinArtho

10-19-05, 09:38 AM
Actually, even if the dragon makes its reflex save vs glueing, it still is entangled for the duration of the bag as long as the bag hits. That's -2 to all attacks and -4 to Dex for 2d4 rounds.

That's enough of that Whitey. Time to reassess your situation!

My bad. Neither of you are in the cloud. Assume it extends 3 squares beyond the dragon's space in all directions.
Usurpator

10-20-05, 02:55 PM
I am assuming Nexa is covered by the cloud and can't see the dragon or the extent of the cloud. The cloud is somewhat fortunate, because the fog gives Nexa total concealment, and even the dragon's blindsense won't allow it to make attacks of opportunity against her.

Nexa drops the scroll of faerie fire she was holding and casts Cat's Grace's from memory. Then she moves to the point indicated by my map (I am providing my own map to help illustrate my intentions, since Nexa didn't end up where I wanted her to be last turn).

Is Nexa able to determine the approximate position of the dragon by a reactive listen on the dragon's turn? Because if it seems to be straight in the path she is moving to, she will move in the other direction, of course.

I am also assuming that any square covered with less than 50% cave wall is accessible, any square containing over 50% of cave wall is not (or should be squeezed through).

Daeren will draw a tanglefoot bag, step forward 5ft and ready to throw if the dragon gets within 20ft.

Nexa pulls a scroll out, successfully (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=171677) casting produce flame, hoping now to turn the tide of this battle.

Daeren, now in lizardman form, pulls out another tanglefoot bag, readying to use it whenever possible.

A couple of small points. Resist Energy lasts 10 min/level - so effectively Nexa and I are protected for the fight (200 rounds for Nexa, 300 rounds for me).

I don't know if you noticed but the shield scroll I used was CL2 - so it lasts 20 rounds.

Daeren, not seeing the dragon, decides this is probably his best opportunity to get off a longer spell. He drops the tanglefoot bag (gently!) and starts to cast Enlarge Person from memory. Enlarge Person is a full round spell, so I won't finish until just before my next action. Hopefully the dragon is far enough away that he won't hear me casting.

Move out to the north-east, see if I can find Daeren or the dragon again.

Daeren begins casting a spell to increase his size, hoping to eliminate any advantage.

5 ft. step backward which should bring me 15 ft. distant from it (out of melee and full attack range), then hurl produced flame at the beast, hoping it bypasses its SR.

"Daeren, I need you aid here!"
TelinArtho

10-22-05, 12:55 PM
Not sure exactly where the dragon is, but assuming it is close (less than 30ft), Daeren will cast Scorching Ray from the scroll, pick up the tanglefoot bag and take a five foot step to the southwest. If I can't see it (without cover) from where I am, I'll pick up the tanglefoot bag and take a five foot step to the southwest. If I can see it from there (and it is less than 30ft away) - I'll toss the tanglefoot bag. (The more I look at the map, the more it seems that I definitely can see it, so I've taken out the alternative plan - burn the sucker!

Comin' dear! Here's some hot soup for ya!

Daeren reads the scroll in his hands and a powerful ray of fire bursts towards the dragon. He then picks up the tanglefoot bag of goo at his feet and steps towards the dragon.

I don't know Uther - I'm not really expecting to need 10 rounds of attacks. I'm hoping it will be down in 4. But that's just what I'm hoping.

Future rounds, assuming I am able:

1. Throw tanglefoot bag and draw scroll of magic weapon
2. Cast scroll of Magic Weapon on the Longspear and draw longspear
3. Charge and attack dragon (repeatedly on the attack part).

In case you need to speed up the battle and I happen to not be around.

Since the produce flame has proved ineffective, and it is still 3 rounds before Daeren will attack, I guess the only thing to do until Daeren engages is to use Total Defense and wait for Daeren.

If the dragon is glued to the floor, though, Nexa takes her chance and will withdraw (using tumble for 5 ft. in the second threatened square if neccessary, trying to pick a place that the dragon cannot charge. Then cast shillelagh on her quarterstaff next turn, unless the dragon is attacking her already of course, then back to Total Defense.

By the way, can the dragon even charge (including diving charge) when hindered by fog or tanglefoot bag? Since both hinder movement.
TelinArtho

10-23-05, 11:42 AM
Its no longer hindered by the tanglefoot bag - but the fog might have been an issue for it.

Anyway, that was a bad round for us - hopefully things will still work out.

TelinArtho

Well, no it wouldn't have been able to. Unfortunately, that only saves it 6hp worth of damage, and I think the full attack on the following round was nasty enough to still devour the wolf... not sure though- you'd have to check all the rolls on that one.

Doesn't matter, I don't want to rehash things that happened more than a round ago anyway. But its more a question for possible future diving charges. I don't know if a tanglefoot bag does prevent charges (diving or not).

Round 10:

Unable to make a charge, the dragon double moves, trying to base Nexa.

Nexa casts shillelagh on her quarterstaff, making it into a destructive force to be reckoned with.

Daeren steps out, seeing the dragon close, and tosses the tanglefoot bag. (Ranged touch: 4+6=10 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=172508) Ref: 23 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=172509) Now at half movement)

Time for some combat.

Rounds 12-13:

The dragon unleashes its fury, angry as being attacked by two fronts. It focuses on Daeren, biting and clawing at him while he tries to dodge. Due to the entanglement, the dragon attacks a bit slower, and after multiple lunges at Daeren he only gets clawed twice, both by its left claw. Daeren's magical protections pay off, as the bites, wings, and tail bounce harmlessly off, as well as multiple claw attacks. (Total damage: 9 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=172542) Attacks: 24; 20; 25; 9!; 9!; 18; 17; 11; 25; 17; 21; 9! (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=172541) )

Nexa flurries, rapidly striking the dragon as it attacked her friend. She connects on the first strike, but the dragon catches on, dodging the other 3. Her connecting strike does its damage, however, and the dragon's tail begins to trail blood. (Attack: 25; 10; 15; 18 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=172543) Damage: 11 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=172543) )

What's done is done I guess - but I should've pointed out that while enlarged, I threaten to 20ft with my spear, and I can't hit within 10ft.

Anyway, on that last attack by me, aren't we flanking and isn't it entangled? If so - 19+2=21 vs 23-2=21! that's a hit. Damage from the longspear should be 2d6+7 since I am enlarged.

Daeren flies about in a fury, hitting hard against the Dragon as he sees its blood stain the floor.

+10hp, Longspear attack will be +9 melee, 2d6+10. AC is 23 while raging.
King Uther

10-24-05, 07:16 PM
Forgot about being enlarged. Dang it. I had a personal emergency today. Time for this combat to end.

Damage from last hit: 15 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=172888)

Daeren rages, his longpsear tasting the blood of the oversized lizard. He tries to stab it, (Attack: 5+11=16 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=172889) Miss) missing entirely. He back up from his position, hoping the dragon comes at him.

Round 14-15:

The dragon begins to start again its flurry of attacks aimed at Daeren, but due to his movement he has to move through a threatened zone for a bite. (AoO: 5+11=16 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=172894) Attack: 30 Damage: [URL=http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=172892]9 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=172889) )

Nexa moves forward, flanking again and swinging her staff at the ginormous beast. (Attack: 15+9=24 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=172895) Damage: 15 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=172895) )

He then moves away to avoid another full attack. (AoO: 17 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=172897) Miss)

Round 16:

The dragon returns to base Daeren, (AoO: 4+11=15 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=172898) Miss), biting at the retreating barbarian. (Attack: 23 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=172899) Damage: 11 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=172899) )

Daeren's at 0hp. The dragon still has between 50-60. Don't know if you choose to heal or not Usurp. I will run the combat to its end once I get the okay.
TelinArtho

Move away (around a corner if possible). Next round draw a potion of CLW. Round after that drink it.

Then draw and drink my other one.

Nexa - feeling this a little more than I should. Can you take over for a minute?
Usurpator

10-25-05, 04:03 AM
Seeing Daeren severly injured, Nexa presses her attack.

"I see you are afraid to face me. Afraid of an elf with a stick, I hope your mother never hears of this!"

Nexa continues her tactics, since she has to do everything to distract the Dragon from Daeren (including drawing an AoO so that Daeren can safely grab that potion).

Telin, since you are disabled and can thus only do a single move or standard action each turn, you can't withdraw (and you're to far within the dragon's reach anyway). Nexa will try to draw the AoO by moving to base the dragon. If she succesfully distracts the dragon you can draw your potion and make a 5 ft. step. Next turn you can make another 5 ft. step and consume the potion without risk, I hope. If you wait too long (mulitple moves and multiple potions), your shield spell will run out anyway, and your magic weapon soon after that, so I think it's now or never.

BTW, King, shouldn't Nexa get AoO's on the dragon as well when it moves to attack Daeren, since the dragon doesn't withdraw (he does a move and an attack) from her threatened space? Since Daeren draws an AoO, I am assuming both move 10+ ft., and Nexa has to move to follow. Also, the dragon is apparently safing it's AoO for Daeren, since I move before Daeren moves, and the Dragon has its AoO's 'refreshed' on it's turn. Just something to think about....
TelinArtho

10-25-05, 10:12 AM
That's a much better plan.

Nexa draws the AoO first (hopefully), Daeren takes a 5ft step and draws a potion. Next round Daeren takes another 5ft step and drinks the potion (whether or not the dragon continues to threaten him).
King Uther

10-25-05, 11:12 AM
Whew! Glad to have my internet back. Would've finished this up last night if I could. Yes, you are right Usurpator. Nexa does deserve 2 AoOs. There are a few other things I thought of that need to be dealt with as well.

Nexa's AoOs: 3+9=12; 9+9=18 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=173338) Both misses.

Nexa moves around the side, (AoO: 24 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=173340) miss), trying the make the dragon angry. She then swings her quarterstaff at the majestic scaled dragon. (Attack: 7+9+2=18 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=173341) Miss)

Daeren moves back 5' and draws a potion.

Actual Round 16:

Nexa strikes and moves, hoping to change her luck at striking the dragon. (Attacks: 4+7=11 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=173345) ) Her attack glances harmlessly off of its scales.

Note you have a few rounds before this.

They follow the voice, deep into the cave.

"Yessss, my dark disease. Poison this world with my legacy."

The creature appears to be adark, elongated snake with a humanoid head. It sits on an island in the middle of a frozen pond. It fidgets slightly, with a bit of a twitch. It bites a flower that seems to flourish here.

Here's my updated used equipment:

Remaining spells:
0: [DC 13] Touch of Fatigue, Ray of Frost, Resistance, Flare, Mage Hand*
1: [DC 14] Enlarge Person*, Endure Elements, Ray of Enfeeblement, Magic Missile
2: [DC 15] Alter Self*, Scorching Ray (x2)

Items Used:

2 Tanglefoot Bags
2 Potions of Cure Light Wounds
Scroll of Resist Energy (CL3)
Scroll of Shield (CL2)
Scroll of Scorching Ray (CL3)
Scroll of Magic Weapon (CL1)

And 4 charges from the wand of CLW (which I will pay for at the end of the quest) @15gp/charge = 60gp.

I've also used my 1 rage/day.

As for buffs, I'll proceed with the following assumptions:

Still Up: Resist Energy (lasts ~28 minutes after fight), Alter Self (lasts ~28 minutes after fight)
Not sure: Enlarge (lasts until round 39 - about 2 minutes after the first fight is done)
Gone: Magic Weapon, Shield

Okay - assuming the above is correct, here's what Daeren will do when approaching, just before seeing the opponent:

Daeren comes to the corner where the creature will be in view. With a scroll in his hand, and his spells in his mind, he takes a step around and sees the snake-like creature beyond. Having no knowledge of this creature, he can only infer from its comments that it is truly the cause of this foul disease.

Snake-creature - your days are numbered. Tell us what we need to do to cure this foul disease and I will make sure you get at least a little to reform your actions.

Daeren then casts the spell from his scroll for an extra bit of protection.

During the few rounds, if Nexa wants to, Daeren will renew her Mage Armor (just to be safe). Upon approaching, Daeren will have a scroll of shield in hand. In his first action he will cast from it and draw another scroll (not sure yet what though). If the opponent casts any spells, spellcraft would be nice...

You may buff how you choose, assume 4 rounds worth.

The snake sees them in the distance. It yells, the rocky walls echo with hatred from its voice.

Assuming Resist Energy and Alter Self are still up:
1. Mage Armor (CL1) from scroll on Nexa
2. Enlarge Person (CL2) from scroll on myself

If resist energy is down, then Mage Armor, Resist Energy, Enlarge Person, Shield.

In both cases, Tanglefoot bag in hand before rounding the corner.

Daeren will move up to within 20ft (if possible without going on the lake) and toss the Tanglefoot bag. If the lake is too broad, or if he is too far away, he will move and ready to cast Magic Missile if the creature starts to cast a spell.

Master, eh? So you're not even important! Well, I guess that means you'll have to tell us who your master is so we can go and teach him a lesson too. That - or you'll face the steam of my axe!

Some layout of the land here would be nice if possible

Nexa holds her action, doing nothing threatening, thinking to keep the obviously deranged creature ranting and thereby hopefully learning more of its master and the disease.

Nexa: 7 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=175189)
Naga Queen: 21 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=175189)

Round 1:

A wicked smile comes over the snake-like creature as its form goes invisible...

Time for a brawl.
TelinArtho

Daeren doubles moves forward to where the snake-like creature was. Along the way, he puts away the tanglefoot bag and draws forth his Longspear. As he moves, he makes sure Awk is able to sense the area well.

Oh no you don't Mr. Snake - you're going to pay for this treachery dearly - invisible or not!

Nexa - you have anything to make this thing stop moving around?

If the naga is sensed before the end of the move, adjust to be within reach of the longspear if possible. Daeren has Blindfighting and has uncanny dodge - so bear that in mind if the naga makes any attacks against me.

If the ice slows Daeren down - he will move along that line appropriately.

If Daeren is able to pinpoint with the help of his familiar, he will point out the appropriate area to Nexa.

Forgot to include the map...

"Not without getting you caught up as well, I'm afraid."

If Nexa has an approximate idea where the Naga has slithered to (reactive listen?), draw a scroll of faerie fire and hit that area with it. If not, still draw scroll and ready to throw faerie fire on hearing casting.

"Besides, I think she has fled. Her threats must have been just boasts, she's probably afraid to face us. She was just a handmaiden of the dragon, serving it out of fear. Let's get these flowers and return so that we can use them to acquire a cure."

Obviously, the above is a bluff. Maybe the mentally unstable Naga will blurt out something and reveal her position when she hears this.

King, looking at the map, have we have left the cave? Is there still a blizzard out here? I hope we didn't leave without at least freeing those poor wolves.
King Uther

10-28-05, 04:49 PM
I figured we'd tie up those loose ends later. And no, we have not left the cave ut are in a frozen bog deep within it.

Daeren moves across the ice carefully, drawing his longspear in an attempt to endanger the oversized naga. He reaches the inner island, tryng to sense it.

Nexa casts a spell, and the form of the naga materializes as she did not even really leave where she started! Amazed at her luck, she plans her attack.

Should be an interesting matchup now. Good call on the faerie fire.
TelinArtho

10-28-05, 05:03 PM
I will cast Scorching Ray at it from memory and move in to threaten it (if I was already in reach of it with my spear - go ahead and stay there... if it closes with me in melee - take a 5ft step back).

There's the ugly bugger! Come 'ere and have some breakfast!

Daeren calls upon the magic in his mind and a bolt of fire streaks out and hits the snake-like creature.

I usually reserve the right to make all of the rolls because I think it allows the quest to be better. But seeing you both, it is clear you can do everything. So, if you wish, feel free to roll your own attacks, etc...but make sure to tell me you want to so i don't do it for you. Do it on Invisible Castle underneath your character's name. Generally I like doing it that way so you can catalog all of the rolls from one character forever as a nice list.

"What's wrong, are you unable to make any decisions without your dragon directing you? Or are too afraid of those flowers to take any action?"

Daeren fire a scorching ray, then steps up the threaten the large snake.

Nexa begins summoning, hoping to aid Daeren in whatever way possible.

Round 3:

The creature slithers back another 5ft, and a lightning bolt arcs from its mouth, aimed at Daeren. (Ref DC16: 15+2=17 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=175684) Damage: 28/2=14 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=175684) )

Actually, I forgot I was enlarged - if it is at 15-20ft from me, either it needs to cast defensively or I get a free swing at the bugger... for each spell...

First AoO (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=175685) 8 to hit...
Second AoO (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=175686)11 to hit...

BLECH!

Daeren steps closer to the creature and stabs with his longspear some more, after being ineffective in stopping its spells before. 15 to hit, 9 damage (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=175687)

Nexa finishes the summons for a Wolf, as near as she can get it to the Naga. Then immediately starts a Summon Monster II for a Hippogriff, discarding her Owl's Wisdom for it, once again edging closer to the Naga. Although she sees Daeren is hurt, she notices it's not serious enough yet to come rushing into combat.

"Hold on, I'll be there soon enough!"

Nexa will try to position the Hippogriff so that it can make a diving charge. She will then close with the Naga. Anyway, I'm off to bed....

Daeren steps closer, trying to cover all possible angles against the naga. He stabs it, drawing blood as he thrusts the point forwards.

Nexa finishes her summoning, and the wolf move to bite the snake. (Attack: 8+3=11 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=175981) ) It cannot seem to keep its grip in the frozen cave.

Nexa then begins to summon once again, this time for a Hippogriff.

Round 4:

After Daeren has done his thing:

As Nexa finishes her spells a Hippogriff appears high in the large cave. It folds its wings and hurls itself down, right at the Naga: hits AC 19 for 13 damage (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=176420)

The wolf begins to circle slowly around the Naga, his natural instincts telling him to achieve a flanking position, and snaps his jaws at the snake-like creature: hits AC 12 (without flanking) for 4 damage (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=176421)

Nexa moves closer, doing a double move while drawing her quarterstaff and hoping to circle the Naga and engage next round.

The naga, somewhat screwed due to a faerie fire spell, tries to cast defensively, (30 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=176573) ), blasting Daeren with a volley of Force Missiles. The damage is moderate, (11 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=176573) ), but you can see the desperation on the naga's dark eyes.
TelinArtho

Magic Missiles won't be helping you now snakey! Take this!

The hippogriff touches down and claws and bites at the Naga with utter futility (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=176631).

The wolf circles around a bit more, finally achieves a flanking position, and nips (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=176634) the Naga in its tail for 3 damage. The wolf holds onto the tail and drags (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=176638) the Naga around, despositing it on the icy cave floor with it coils all twisted up.

Nexa rushes in and clubs (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=176639) the snake-like creature firmly on its head (hits AC 25 for 10 damage).

We should have it boxed in from all sides now (more or less at least).

Yup - looks like yer days are numbered they snakey. Any last words or regrets - and make them carefully - because this here spearhead has your name written all over it!

"Well done Daeren! She did seem a bit mentally unstable, though, and I wonder if it that came because she was infected with the disease as well. Obviously from what we have seen the disease is supernatural of origin, more like a curse than an actual disease. She did seem to fear a particular kind of flower though, I wonder which."

Nexa avoids the possibly diseased body of the Naga and starts looking around for the flowers it mentioned.
TelinArtho

11-01-05, 01:50 PM
Thanks - you too. Those summons were great.

Let's get these flowers and get out of here quick. I can't say I want to be around when the disease is taking its tool on this one too. Just a little too unsettling for me to witness.

Daeren prods the dead naga once more for good measure before gathering up the flowers carefully and as Nexa instructs.

Unless the CR of the creatures was vastly different than my estimates, we should both be getting 9000xp and 6800gp worth (6300gp for me is taken up in the bag of tricks). I'm just posting it here so that we can move on for next week.

Uther if you would be so kind as to post the rewards - that'd be great. We can work out the closing bits at our leisure then.
King Uther

11-02-05, 01:06 AM
The naga's body spasmed, its blood spraying around, covering everyone close. It was a disgusting moment. It was then they made haste, gathering the flowers as best they could. After filling their satchels, they both left the cavernous frozen bog. It was then Nexa got a chance to see Silverfur's body once again.

She stood there, very silent. Daeren put his hand upon her shoulder, nodding to her. He began to manually dig a hole, using his hands, making a grave for her companion. The act of selflessness made her tear up, for Silverfur was a loyal friend to the end, and had a good death protecting her.

She walked over to the cage, freeing the wolves. She fed them, and they licked her face as if a child of hers. She smiled, knowing Silverfur's legacy would continue through them.

And now the daunting task of returning through a blizzard began....

I figured I'd give you a chance to see this through your eyes before continuing.

"It's a wonder that something so delicate is able to survive under such harsh conditions. I hope they will help Kelto to find a cure."

Nexa comments as she looks at the frosty flowers. Then she turns to the three wolves.

"I will name you Silverflower, Frostfur and Blizzard in memory of Silverfur and his great courage and selfless actions and the sacrifice he made for all of us."

Nexa used the following items during the quest:
1 potion of protection from evil
1 scroll of produce flame [CL4]
1 scroll of shillelagh
1 scroll of faerie fire
1 scroll of resist cold
1 tanglefoot bag
14 charges from wand of cure light wounds

The blanket of snow kept them in the cave for almost another 8 hours. After seeing a slight clearing, they made there way back into the village. Night had almost descended. Kelto greeted them at the door.

"What happened!? You all look so bloody. Where is Silverfur? Sit down and let's talk."
TelinArtho

11-04-05, 09:30 PM
It appears we have found a part of the source of the problem with that disease of yours. I personally would suggest investigating those druids some more - because the one we found was no friend of nature...

Anyway - we found that dragon. Man did she put up a fight - but in the end - we were able to take her down. When she went - the same disease seemed to ravage the corpse - leaving it completely destroyed.

In the same cave, we found a snake-like creature who was serving a higher being. Although we weren't able to glean who its master was - it was just crazy enough to lead us to these flowers here. The flowers should cure the disease - at least somehow they should. Don't know much about them I'm afraid.

Truly curious this whole situation was. Although I'll need to return to Gladius and study some more on the matter - I suspect that before long - I will be returning up here to take care of that snake-thing's master. I just need to find out what it was...

"It was as Daeren said. Thanks to Silverfur's sacrifice and Daeren combat ability we were able to defeat our adversaries. The nature of the disease has me worried, however. There seems to be a controlling aspect, maybe some kind of curse, at work. I hope you can use the flowers to find a cure soon. I will accompany Daeren back to Gladius and contemplate on this matter. I doubt we have seen the end of this."

He takes the flowers, examining them as best as possible.

"Hmmm....this will do. Nexa, what do you plan to do now? This does not bode well for us if there are dark things in the Forest. Not to mention I hear news of similar things happening in other places on this continent. There is a reported Blue Dragon spreading a plague in the Desert of Ith. It has similar effects. Thank you both so much for your contribution. I owe you much."

Wow, this week has been a killer. Sorry I've been AWOL. Let's pick this back up.

A blue dragon eh? Sounds like fun to me... well, maybe not fun - but certainly worth my attention. Never fought one though - I'll have to do my research and take care of it.

That reminds me, have you ever heard of the Spear of Fangs? In Dwarven legend, it was a mighty weapon used in the Dragon crusades when a group of Reds started causing trouble. Legend says that it was broken long ago - but I wonder if something similar could be made.
Usurpator

11-10-05, 06:36 PM
I am glad to hear that you can use the flowers to find something against the disease. I will certainly investigate this further. We will see through which dark forests this path leads us! Maybe it will even lead us to the desert of Ith. With Daeren at my side I feel confident about fighting these troubles. Especially if you do manage to find that spear you are talking about, Daeren. I haven't heard of it myself, but I have never read much books and am not very learned in such matters, but it sounds like a mighty useful tool against a Blue Dragon.
King Uther

11-11-05, 01:45 PM
"That weapon was made by the dwarven forges of the Trogan Holds, to the far east. It was supposedly broken, and I believe that last warrior to wield it was the Dragonslayer Gury, when he went to slay the Green Dragon Chikiko. But that was some 25 years ago. You might investigate that, as these dragons keep on appearing only to hurt innocents, and for no discernable reason."
