With a long family history of dragon-slayers when the time called for them, the Stronghammer clan has never stepped down from a challenge. That being said, many of the Stronghammer clan have been doomed to very short lifespans as a result of their quests. Bulgar is a devout follower of Grantis - the dwarven god of Justice and Retribution. Although just an initiate, he is a bright student of the clerical arts and is an accomplished healer. As all members of the Stronghammer clan, he's received martial training in order to prepare him for the trials ahead. Bulgar is one of 6 siblings who are making their way out of the dwarven lands of their birth - ready to prove themselves or ready to move on with their lives. Bulgar has taken it as his personal responsibility to take care of the dragon that felled his cousin Daeren and to restore Daeren's remains to their family tomb. About Grantis, Dwarven god of Justice and Retribution Grantis is a Lawful Neutral god among the dwarves for the most part, although in recent ages, some humans have come to follow his guidelines quite closely. The clerics of Grantis preside over judgements no matter how small or big within the dwarven community, including handing out decisions and executions. Followers of Grantis are allowed to express themselves in their dress, with their holy symbol emblazoned very prominently. Grantis's holy symbol is that of a hammer on both sides of a scale. Followers of Grantis are rarely seen outside of the Dwarven communities. The rare few who become travelers, mostly do so for a temporary pilgrimage or to communicate with other temples to Grantis throughout the world. The vast majority however, tend to stay in their homeland. Grantis's favored weapon is a warhammer. Clerics of Grantis may choose from the following domains: Protection, Strength, Law, Earth Buffs and Prefight actions: Do not Bring Leopold. Activate Animated Shield Bulgar and Leopold are two bricks out of the same barrel - they pride on being able to drive someone to the ground and forcing them to submit to their punishment. As such, Bulgar usually starts battle with a bola in one hand and carrying his Guisarme. Once in range (even maximum range), Bulgar will try to throw the bolas to trip his opponent while Leopold moves up to keep the opponent on the ground. Bulgar is too slow to close to melee on his own usually - so he lets Leopold keep the opponent cornered. Against a faster opponent - particularly horsemen, Bulgar throws the bolas to trip the horse. Once he runs out of them however or if the opponent stays out of range, he will break down and use his bow instead. Bulgar carries the waraxe and shield of his own make - but rarely uses them - as he prefers the guisarme in most circumstances. | Erithmu11-14-07, 04:08 PM | Erithmu waited patiently for Bulgar to arrive. Looking over the rosary that was growing on his belt he marveled at his new creation and wondered what type of dragon the dwarf had found this time. He heard the armor of the dwarf before he came around the corner. With a short head nod the elf noticed the gleaming new breastplate. "It seems that the dwarven smiths have skill using elven metal. It is very fine work that you have there. However, if I may say so, your archery skills could use some improving." |
| TelinArtho11-14-07, 04:28 PM | Bah! Who needs arrows anyway? Besides - where we're going - I doubt they would help much. The next one on the list is a nasty fellow and he has taken up residence in a swamp... and you know - the trees get in the way. As to the new breastplate - working metal is in Dwarven blood and we're not too particular about the metal being worked. If it weren't for the fact I was getting stiff in that old one - I probably would've kept it until I was dead and buried... but when you're fighting beasties like we do - I can't be gettin' blocked by my own armor... Can't post much without knowing what's the location and all... |
| Erithmu11-14-07, 04:49 PM | Erithmu smiled slightly, "I personally need arrows, and I suspect that you will as well when one of these figure out that they have a much easier time if they are airborne. As for the swamp, I wish you would have told me, I would have packed some of my old clothes that I've had for a hundred years; and a good pair of boots for that matter. Either way lead on, I'll need a bath when we are done with this." Yea I know, but I wanted to get in my jab for the arrow fight in the FFA. |
| Vathelokai11-15-07, 01:02 AM | "Well, you might be impressed to know that we don't have to spend a month in a carriage this time. You know anything about Tezgett?" "Yes. It's the wizard retreat to the south of Dragor Mounds. Less than a week from here." "There's a swampy area all around there called Laki." Bulgar goes on to explain that there were unusual sightings, but the local wizards assumed they were wyverns coming down from Dragor Mounds. Nothing ever got close to the Enclave. But over the last months the animals have been disappearing. Recently mutilated bodies of animals and humanoids have been found. "Seems like some loner is trying to take over the area." I assume the sheets are ready? As usual, last minute shopping before you leave town is allowed. All the encounters are in the wetlands/swamp, so feel free to fast-forward. |
| TelinArtho11-15-07, 10:49 AM | My sheet is ready. If you don't mind - I did include that Leopold is not to be brought (I'd like him to come along as part of the roleplay - but I don't want him to be a factor for the combats (ie - no ally penalty). He'll just carry the couple of extra quivers that I have him marked with. You better be ready to get those fine shoes of yours dirty though, because the swamp has never been the cleanest. I heard they once pulled an otyugh the size of a colussus out of there once, though it was during the time after the king's fall. Bulgar spoke a quick word of magic and was pleased to watch his shield lift free of his arm and float before him. Now this is something that will take some getting used to. Bulgar smiled and pretended to spar with an invisible foe - pleased as his shield reacted instantly to his movements in ways that he would do himself if he were facing a real opponent. |
| Erithmu11-15-07, 06:24 PM | Yea ... Rith is ready. Bring on the first encounter. Erithmu watched Bulgar spare in mid air. Quite interesting. That is a rather useful addition. Either way we should get going, I suspect I will need a week just to have my things cleaned. No magic will get the smell out. |
| Vathelokai11-16-07, 12:00 AM | Bulgar and Erithmu travel quickly by carriage south of Gladius for two days until they reach the fort of Tipesa. They spend the night and watch the sun rise over the short steep mountains of Dragor before spending the day walking to the Laki Wetlands. High ridges from the mountains trail off deep into the wetlands and they use the thoroughfare to travel deep into the marsh and camp. They spend a few days getting accustomed to the land and plotting out stretches of high ground between the expanses of algae covered water. They see no wildlife except the occasional bird. The trees are sparse near the edge of the wetlands, but deeper in large patches of mangrove forest grow in the shallower waters. Fields of reeds adorn the swampier areas. The occasional dead tree towers from the swamp, making passable landmarks. Setting out on the fourth day, heading south east at dawn, they follow a ridge into a wooded area. Climbing to the top of a hedgerow to look around, Erithmu spots what looks like a man wading through the water. It seems to be headed their direction. It gets closer, about 150 ft away, and Erithmu gets a better look. "Bulgar, It seems we have a troll following us." Bulgar squints, but cannot make out the green giant against the algae. "She looks like a smart one.... chainmail, longbow, a polearm, and it looks like three swords. Oh... she's waving." Bulgar still cannot make the troll out, and wonders a bit how Erithmu would know that the troll is female. |
| TelinArtho11-16-07, 01:22 AM | A troll is waving at you? Bulgar squints into the murk where Erithmu is indicating. I think the swamp gas is getting to that light elven blood of yours my friend. Nonetheless, Bulgar orders Leopold down and behind a tree and takes his guisarme in both hands. |
| Erithmu11-16-07, 01:31 AM | Erithmu considers the options of their current situation. The troll doesn't seem 'angry' nor does it seem to be attacking. "Well how do you want to handle this. I'm not sure 'she' would understand me. But I can try talking to her, either that or she sees something we don't." Questions: Does she have a weapon drawn? Actions: Active spot/Listen for something that might be like plantlife around us that might be hostile. |
| Vathelokai11-16-07, 08:22 AM | Nothing 'hostile' detected except the troll. No weapons drawn. The troll floats along, not much more than head and arms poking above the water. Not recieving much response from the hand motion, she yells in the language common to Gladius, "HO! What are humans to doing inside swamp?" |
| Erithmu11-16-07, 08:32 AM | "Travelers, and hunters one might say. We were told we could find something we are looking for within this swamp. Forgive our rudeness, one does not often meet a troll that wishes to speak first." Diplo check? |
| Vathelokai11-16-07, 08:46 AM | "You not smell dragon!? Dummy human, I track on you during 2 days. You think monsters not as good as me? Go home and not to be food." |
| Erithmu11-16-07, 09:05 AM | "A dragon ... curious. You seem to be in good health considering there is a dragon around. I'm not sure I would stay if I did know there was a dragon. But we won't be too long here." |
| Vathelokai11-16-07, 10:58 AM | "Of course me is good healthy. I hunt dragon. You best go home to soft grass. You know now. |
| Erithmu11-16-07, 11:02 AM | "A dragon hunter you say? I believe we have mutual goals, but I am somewhat worried for you. How familiar are you with dragons? I don't doubt your strength, but what do you know about 'this' dragon here?" I'm guessing this is where we hurt her ego ... |
| TelinArtho11-16-07, 11:25 AM | Bulgar mumbles something about dumb trolls not being able to tell the difference among Humans, Elves and Dwarves... He keeps a vigilant eye out during the conversation in case this proves to be a trap. Bulgar will warn the troll not to come closer than 20ft if she does approach that much. Being a dwarf, he's not exactly trusting of them... Otherwise though - he'll be mumbling under his breath about trolls and their disgusting habits... |
| Vathelokai11-16-07, 12:03 PM | "Of course. I hunt cold dragons when I was a little, but now I hunt for honor. I hunt deadly firewater dragon." |
| TelinArtho11-16-07, 12:21 PM | Keeping a watchful eye on the troll, Bulgar whispers to Erithmu in Terran. Honor? What kind of honor could a troll have? We're losing time here and, frankly, I don't think this troll has any business getting to the dragon before us. Bulgar eyes the terrain of the swamp ahead carefully. |
| Erithmu11-16-07, 01:01 PM | Erithmu pondered for a moment the quandry he was in. On one hand, he didn't want to get into a fight with the troll, yet he was sure there would be consequences if they were racing to the dragon. "Then I assume that your aware that the 'firewater' dragon that you speak of will be very deadly to you. We ... 'humans' have much knowledge of different types of people, and I'm sure you know that the 'firewater' will hurt very much and even kill you. Either way we cannot turn back, we are hunting the dragon as well. While my companion hunts them for honor, I am more of a ... observer of dragons. We will not be persuaded to alter our course." Erithmu considered the options and whispered back in Terran "Maybe, but I don't think she has a chance against it. Take away her bow and she is dragon food. I don't think she could out-'smart' it either." |
| Vathelokai11-16-07, 05:33 PM | Finally home and can use the dice roller... "You to be funny, human. Maybe you not soft like you look. You not leave, than that to be your worries. But because you funny I tell you; not everything that is killed here dies. Now, you stay out of between me and dragon." The troll turns and sinks back town into the bog, floating with only her head up, like a crocodile. Bulgar and Erithmu watch closely while she leaves, expecting some kind of trick. Nice diplomacy roll; moved it from unfriendly to friendly. Will post the encounter and initiative in about half an hour... |
| Erithmu11-16-07, 05:38 PM | Wow ... I did roll nice. So ... was that the first encounter? and we 'passed' it or are we in combat ... you mentioned initiative. |
| Vathelokai11-16-07, 05:47 PM | Troll was a psuedo-encounter... you'll see in a bit; setting things up...(not fighting the troll; it really left).... |
| TelinArtho11-16-07, 05:54 PM | What an odd situation... I have never been in competition to get to a dragon first... Well - I guess there's nothing to it but I suspect that will not be the last we see of her. Bulgar takes up point and calls Leopold to his side again. He pats the faithful dog thoughtfully for a moment and then continues on into the swamp. |
| Vathelokai11-16-07, 05:58 PM | Bulgar curses repeatedly as the proceed deeper into the swamp. After an hour of marching, the ridge becomes thinner, about 20 ft across. The trees become denser and where the ridge curves sight is completely blocked. About 2 hours after leaving the troll, they round a corner. Leopold growls and Bulgar stops. 120 ft down the path, off in the treeline is a smoky humanoid form, floating in the air. Bulgar Recognizes it immediately. He locks eyes with it's glowing red orbs and size each other up quickly. "Allip!" Erithmu knows of them. The elf looks around but sees nothing. Init for suprise round: Bulgar, then allip. Then Erithmu, Bulgar, and Allip |
| Erithmu11-16-07, 08:55 PM | Right ... Telin takes weekends off. Bulgar strikes without thinking at the known threat this time. Calling forth a weapon of force to strike out at the creature. Cast spiritual weapon +8 for 1d8+1 20/x3 I think waraxe is appropriate here. |
| TelinArtho11-16-07, 09:00 PM | Hey - I'm still here... but yeah - SW is what I was going to do... |
| Erithmu11-16-07, 09:05 PM | Seeing the creatures moving in quickly Erithmu reacts just a hair too late and begins summoning. SM3 |
| Vathelokai11-16-07, 09:09 PM | A floating axe appears in mid-air and swings down hard on the opaque horror. It shrieks and decends into the ground. 9 dmg. Bulgar's move. Erithmu begins chanting as he looks around for any other monstrosities. |
| TelinArtho11-16-07, 10:48 PM | Ready to redirect the weapon on sight. Watch your feet my friend - I'm sure it hasn't gone far. |
| Vathelokai11-17-07, 12:07 AM | They hear it before they see it. The alip seeps out of the ground 20 ft away. Bulgar turns to command his weapon, but hears the ghosts siren song and stares raptly into the glowing eyes while his weapon and shield float at his side. Only through supreme force of will does Erithmu keep his focus, barely finishing the chant. Erithmu hears scratching, clawing and squealing coming from the swamp. He maintains his poise, but is disheartened to see 8 humanoid shapes climbing through the submerged tree trunks. Bulgar turns idily to look at the newcommers. The sudden danger brings him to his senses. Revenge of the dice gods... Bulgar fails vs allip babble and is fascinated, at least the skeletons brought him out of it. Suprise (round 1 in the roller) Bulgar casts. Spirit weapon hits for 9. Allip double moves through the ground. Round 2 24-Erithmu begins summoning. 14-Ghast delays (waiting to hear allip again). 13-Six Skeletons delay (wait for movement from Ghast). 11-Bulgar readies. 7-Allip double moves and babbles. Bulgar fails save vs babble. Erithmu makes save. 6-Ghast moves onto land 5-Skeletons move onto land 4-Wight moves out of swamp onto land (double move) 3-Bulgar sees the crowd and snaps out of his fascination. Round 3 Erithmu summons....? Summoned creature...? Bulgar...? Horde of undead...? |
| Vathelokai11-17-07, 12:38 AM | http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a327/Vathelokai/CoCo%20Maps/swamp1.jpg |
| Erithmu11-17-07, 12:57 AM | Erithmu summons his Bison friend who rushes the Allip with horns lowered. Erithmu reaches for his holy symbol and tries to banish many of the undead. C. Bison appears and charges Allip and smites. The C. template gives him the 50/50 miss chance. Rith Turns Undead 1d20-1, 2d6+6 |
| TelinArtho11-17-07, 01:05 AM | Bulgar will redirect the SW to the allip again and then ready to attack anything that comes in reach. Do remember the reach weapon and the longspear's reach... |
| Vathelokai11-17-07, 01:40 AM | A bit sleepy; you guys rocked this one out. Dice gods sure are fickle today... EDIT: added Bulgars spirit weapon in round 4. Rith is up. Round 3 Erithmu turns undead. All skeletons are destroyed. Ghast flees. Bison charges Allip; misses. Bulgar directs spirit weapon; crit demolishes allip (double 20! for x3). Bulgar steps next to Erithmu and readies guisarme (I assume you ment that, since you don't have a longspear). Wight moves along the treeline to attack Erithmu. Miss. Round 4 Erithmu...? Bison moves and attacks. Hits hard. Bulgar attacks; misses. Then he redirects his his spirit weapon on the Wight. It hits Wight...? (has 2hp) |
| Erithmu11-17-07, 09:36 AM | 5ft step, draw bow and shoot (it shouldn't be in melee at that point) |
| Vathelokai11-17-07, 09:54 AM | Hit, and it goes down in round 4. What do you mean ' it shouldn't be in melee'? Just confused. |
| Erithmu11-17-07, 10:05 AM | So I wouldn't be affected by the -4 to shoot into melee when the Bison and Bulgar engage. That ghast will be back soon enough I suspect. We should either move on or wait for it to try to come back. Although I'm not sure it will having just experienced what it did. |
| Vathelokai11-17-07, 10:50 AM | Lets move. If it really wants us, it can catch up. Bulgar is obviously focused on finding the dragon fast, and Erithmu doesn't argue. Hours pass with no sign of trolls or undead. The patches of solid ground become smaller and they soon have to wade through marsh to find clear paths. After stopping for lunch the topic of camping comes up. Neither wants to set a temporary camp in the swamp, and it's almost late enough that they would have to turn back to make it to base before sundown. It's eventually decided that they will spend a few more hours. Making the last couple miles in the dark shouldn't be too bad. Deeper into the swamp and past time to head back Bulgar paces kicking at the dirt. Erithmu is half way up a leafless tree, scanning the horizon. "Blasted troll..." "Bulgar!" "What? They're filthy!" "No, I see something." To the west, Erithmu spots a darker swirling patch against the cloudy sky. It spirals and drops down into the swamp where it disappears again. A few minutes later it appears again, rising just high enough to be spotted before dropping back into the water. Since the ghast has an int score, I'm voting that it's smart enough not to come back. I figure I'll get the next encounter set up for monday. Makes the timing easier. |
| Erithmu11-17-07, 10:54 AM | On the sight of what is probably the dragon, Erithmu casts one of his longer duration spells enhancing his armor. "You might need your bow again." Cast Magic Vestment right before we head out. |
| Vathelokai11-17-07, 12:14 PM | As hogarth pointed out in the tavern, undead are immune to crits. Editing... |
| Vathelokai11-17-07, 12:32 PM | Crap... now that I go over it with a fine tooth comb, I noticed I did the turn undead wrong. The Allip and Ghast have turn resistance and wouldn't have been effected. However the Wight is turned instead. More editing... |
| Vathelokai11-17-07, 01:04 PM | I think I have it now... Suprise (round 1 in the roller) Bulgar casts. Spirit weapon hits for 9. Allip double moves through the ground. Round 2 24-Erithmu begins summoning. 14-Ghast delays (waiting to hear allip again). 13-Six Skeletons delay (wait for movement from Ghast). 11-Bulgar readies. 7-Allip double moves and babbles. All skeletons are destroyed. Wight flees. Bison charges Allip; misses. Bulgar directs spirit weapon at Allip; hit for 8 dmg (9 hp remain). Bulgar steps next to Erithmu and readies guisarme (I assume you meant that, since you don't have a long-spear). Ghast moves along the tree-line to attack Erithmu. Bulgar misses AoO on Ghast. Ghast bites Erithmu for 5. Erithmu is paralyzed. Erithmu is sickened. Not diseased though. Bulgar is not sickened. Round 4 Erithmu is paralyzed. Bison attacks allip hits for 17 dmg. Bulgar attacks Ghast; misses. Spirit weapon hits Allip for 8 Allip disipates. Ghast attacks Bulgar Bulgar takes AoO; hits for 5 dmg. Ghast bites; misses. Round 5 Erithmu is paralyzed. Bison charges Ghast; hits for 14 dmg. Bulgar tries to trip the Ghast, but it dodges. Bulgar redirects spirit weapon; hit for 4 dmg. Bulgar steps back. Ghast steps forward and full attacks Bulgar; all miss. Round 6 Erithmu is paralyzed. Bison gores; misses. Spirit weapon hits for 8 dmg. Ghast crumbles. Sheesh! Does Bulgar have to roll so many 20s against creatures immune to crits? |
| Erithmu11-17-07, 01:44 PM | Rith will pop a charge from his wand to heal the 5 pts of damage. |
| TelinArtho11-17-07, 05:03 PM | You all right there lad? Ghasts are not to be taken lightly. Oh - you might want to wash your mouth out a bit - they don't smell too good either... |
| Vathelokai11-17-07, 06:24 PM | Lets try this again That wight will be back soon enough I suspect. We should either move on or wait for it to try to come back. Although I'm not sure it will having just experienced what it did. Lets move. If it really wants us, it can catch up. Bulgar is obviously focused on finding the dragon fast, and Erithmu doesn't argue. Hours pass with no sign of trolls or undead. On the sight of what is probably the dragon, Erithmu casts one of his longer duration spells enhancing his armor. "You might need your bow again." healed 4hp with the wand. Want to use a cantrip for the last 1? Any other long term buffs? |
| Erithmu11-17-07, 08:49 PM | Yea ... use a 'read magic' ... not like I'm going to need it. "Tell me about it. I'm already resigned to need a bath after this, now I feel like I need one mid way through it." Erithmu didn't take his eyes off the sky as the darkness maneuvered over the swampland. It was odd, almost as if the Dragon wanted to be found. Either that or it was very arrogant. |
| Vathelokai11-19-07, 12:37 AM | Rough day... wont have time to type until afternoon monday. Here's the setup. You find a decent sized hill with scattered trees. It's surrounded entirely by swamp-water. On one side of the hill is an active darkness spell. You see nothing inside of it. |
| Vathelokai11-19-07, 11:52 PM | Trying to keep a low profile, Bulgar and Erithmu hustle through the swamp. They only spot the dragon again once more, for a few seconds. They walk in a generaly westward direction, staying on dry land as much as they can. An hour later they are damp and frustrated. Unwilling to give up despite the lowering sun, they forge onward on a long, wide hedgerow. They are are surprised to finally spot it; a cluster of trees covered in darkness like a clinging fog. As they get closer, they see that the trees are all on one rise, separated from their path by deep water. They see nothing glittering inside the darkness, nor can they see all the way through it. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a327/Vathelokai/CoCo%20Maps/swamp-island.jpg |
| Erithmu11-20-07, 01:12 AM | Erithmu kneels down and surveys the area. Leaning in towards Bulgar he whispers "Seems like a good place for a trap. What do you think here?" |
| TelinArtho11-20-07, 10:29 AM | Indeed. I've got a water breathing spell that might be of some use here - even if only to make the water less dangerous. It will last a while so even if its not immediately useful - it might hold us over for a few more hours. I suggest we head a little further south and see if it will come out to us before we make too many plans though. Stay on the far side from me though - so it will have to go through me to get to you. Cast water breathing and choose to split the duration between Bulgar and Erithmu. After that, Bulgar will move to the edge of the water and start heading south; Erithmu should probably keep 20ft away (avoiding the line breath weapon is really just not an option here - maybe buff with protection from energy now?). In any case, Bulgar will have his guisarme in hand; shield animated. |
| Vathelokai11-22-07, 01:15 AM | Bulgar hears hisses and growls, and Erithmu understands it as Draconic. The creature seems to be talking to itself. "More two-leggers... in my home... who will not live to tell others." The globe of darkness moves across the island in a zig-zag, then stops. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a327/Vathelokai/CoCo%20Maps/Swamp-island2.jpg Round 1 Dragon delays (skiping rolling init, since the dragon was waiting anyway) Bulgar casts breath water and moves. Erithmu ??? Dragon moves and ??? Round 2 Bulgar ??? Erithmu ??? Dragon ??? |
| Erithmu11-23-07, 03:13 PM | Erithmu steps next to Bulgar and protects him from acid and then steps away and casts a spell blessing the two warriors Round 1: R: energy on Bulgar (acid) Round 2: Bless on both. |
| Vathelokai11-26-07, 10:04 PM | While Erithmu prays, the globe of blackness lunges forward across the water. Bulgar, seeing nothing, braces for impact. Fangs rip into his arm. Being close enough to smell it, they finally get a look at the dragon. It towers over them. It's wings are short and stubby, and rippling with muscle. It's talons are long, serrated and pitted. The fangs protrude from it's mouth at odd angles, as though it had more than one row of teeth pushing some of them forward and outward. The dragon spits. "Dwarf... ick." Round 1 Dragon delays (skipping rolling init, since the dragon was waiting anyway) Bulgar casts breath water and moves. Erithmu cast resist acid on Bulgar and moves. Dragon moves and does something quiet. Round 2 Bulgar moves south along the coast. Erithmu moves and casts bless. Dragon moves and bites Bulgar for 10 dmg. Round 3 Bulgar and Erithmu spot the dragon. It is large size and seems deformed. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a327/Vathelokai/CoCo%20Maps/swamp-island3.jpg |
| Erithmu11-26-07, 10:45 PM | Erithmu sees the a bit of tactical disadvantage and yells, "Stall!" It is enough to get Bulgar to hold for just a split second as Erithmu casts a daylight spell on himself and moves to eliminate the advantage of darkness. Have Bulgar Delay ... Cast Daylight, target an arrow. That should eliminate the darkness effect. Can I figure out what the deal is with this dragon? (Lore) |
| TelinArtho11-27-07, 12:36 AM | 5ft step out of threaten range (if possible), and cast protection from evil. Cast defensively if I can't do so safely. Following - if I continue to be threatened, start attacking. If the dragon starts to focus on Erithmu - cast an enlarge person. |
| Vathelokai11-27-07, 08:47 PM | I'm at a loss... Lore: Erithmu is quite sure it is a juvenile black, but it is easily 4 times the size it should be. Erithmu is not sure why it would be that big, since no spell he knows of would enlarge a dragon. As for the bite/claw/wing deformities, all of it's natural weapons seem to be a size larger than would be normal (ie, improved natural attack). Round 3 Bulgar steps and casts. He fails the concentration check to cast defensively (rolled 2). Dragon takes bite AoO for 15 dmg. Bulgar fails concentration check vs dmg (rolled 1). Erithmu casts daylight and moves forward. Darkness is suppressed. Dragon steps forward and full attacks Bulgar. Crit bite, 1 claw, and crit tail does a total of 43 dmg. link of pain...:weep: (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=2091) Bulgar has 11 hp remaining. |
| Erithmu11-27-07, 08:57 PM | Targeted dispel magic it is then ... @Telin: Bust a heal out, I would drop the purge, you can use my PoP if we need it. With another quick spell Erithmu tries to strip the creature of whatever magical protections it has up. |
| TelinArtho11-27-07, 09:25 PM | Wow - wasn't expecting that. Yeah - drop the purge to cast defensively CSW. Getting some other targets in here would be good soon... dispel magic is superior now though. |
| Erithmu11-27-07, 09:38 PM | You might take a move action and suck down an AoO and a charge as opposed to a full attack again. If you have your Guisarme out, then you should draw a trip. |
| Vathelokai11-27-07, 10:57 PM | Erithmu assaults the dragon with a reverberating shout. The dragon reels back, shrinking back down to a manageable size. Bulgar back-peddles, getting bit again by the dragon. Finally getting his polearm between himself and the dragon, he calls for Grantis's aid. His wounds stop bleeding but the pain remains. The dragon steps back and jumps into the air. It circles around to line up both of the men spits a row of acid across them. The acid washes off over Bulgar's magic without effect. Erithmu jumps to the side, being only mildly singed. Used Erithmu's advice on moving out of threat range... {rolled the concentration check and it failed, so I fudged a bit...}. The dice are really hating on you guys. Round 4 Erithmu dispels the dragons expansion. Bulgar moves away from the smaller dragon. Dragon AoO bites for 9 dmg. Bulgar casts CSW, healing 10 hp. Bulgar is at 12 hp. Dragon moves (fly over water, height 5 ft.) and breathes acid. All of the dmg is absorbed by Bulgar's resist acid. Erithmu makes the save and takes 9 dmg. |
| Erithmu11-28-07, 12:03 AM | Seeing a break in the action Erithmu begins to summon some aerial attackers. "Cover me for a second here." SM4, not sure what I'm getting yet. |
| TelinArtho11-28-07, 12:09 AM | Cover you? Okay - move to interpose myself between Rith and the dragon and drop Protection from Energy for another CSW. Please roll better than 10 on 3d8+5. Trip on a provoked AoO please. |
| Vathelokai11-28-07, 01:11 AM | Could I get some specifics on the movement? How far appart are you? |
| TelinArtho11-28-07, 10:12 AM | Well I'm not sure exactly where the dragon is, but put myself 15ft from the dragon and 10ft from Erithmu with more space to the dragon if there's more space to be had. |
| Vathelokai11-29-07, 12:18 AM | Bulgar and Erithmu take defensive positions next to the trees and begin a simultaneous prayer. "Stupid wizard...", snarls the dragon before it rockets away and around a tree. It leaves a contrail of wavering and shattered reeds as it circles the clumps of trees. As it flies in on Erithmu, the elf's holy light reveals the warped form of the dragon in perfect detail. Erithmu ducks to the side, avoiding the dragon's bite, and continues his chant. The air quivers as space opens onto the grayness of the ethereal plane. Round 5 Erithmu begins summoning. Bulgar moves to a defensive position and casts CSW. He heals 15 hp. <geez...> Bulgar is at 27. The dragon double moves in a wide circle to avoid Bulgar and bases Erithmu. Erithmu casts on the defensive and avoids the AoO. Round 6 Erithmu finishes summoning... http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a327/Vathelokai/CoCo%20Maps/swamp-dragon-5.jpg |
| Erithmu11-29-07, 12:36 AM | Erithmu summoned and drew a chaotic field as he called to his traditional Bisons to appear. With the Dragon distracted he tried to get away and moving next to Bulgar he healed some of the dwarf's wounds. I think it is going to be 1d3 C.Bisons (my good friends ...) and then have them attack. (2 and 3 should flank if I get 3. I will move, draw AoO, and then drop FoM for 4d8+7 healing on Bulgar. Bisons should be set up as follows (# relate to number of summons as well): | | | |t|t| | | | | | |t|t|2|2| | |E| | | |2|2| |B| | | |D|1|1| | |p|p|3|3|1|1| | |p|p|3|3|r| | t = tree p = pool/pond r = rock |
| Vathelokai11-29-07, 12:58 AM | Round 6 1 celestial bison appears. It tires to attack, misses. Erithmu moves. Dragon takes aoo; bites for 15 dmg. Erithmu casts cure crit. wounds on Bulgar. Bulgar is healed 26. He is now at 53. Bulgar... Dragon... |
| TelinArtho11-29-07, 09:52 AM | Move closer, drawing a tanglefoot bag along the way and throw it at the dragon. After throwing, put both hands on the guisarme to flank and threaten the dragon. AoO, if given to me, is for a trip. |
| Vathelokai12-03-07, 10:37 PM | Appologies for the lack of posting: family obligations. I know you guys understand. I should be back Wednesday evening. |
| Vathelokai12-10-07, 11:58 PM | Round 6 1 celestial bison appears. It tires to attack, misses. Erithmu moves. Dragon takes aoo; bites for 15 dmg. Erithmu casts cure crit. wounds on Bulgar. Bulgar is healed 26. He is now at 53. Bulgar moves forward and throws tanglefoot bag; hits. Dragon makes save; is entangled, but not stuck. Dragon steps toward Bulgar and full attacks. It hits with a bite and a claw for 15 dmg. Bulgar is at 38 hp. Round 7 Bison steps forward and gores; hits for 10 dmg. Erithmu... Bulgar... Dragon... Notes: forgot bless and entanglement in the roller, but neither changed anything. | | | |t|t| | | | | | |t|t| | | | |E| | | | | | | | |B|D|1|1| | | |p|p| |1|1| | | |p|p| | |r| | |
| Erithmu12-11-07, 01:16 AM | Erithmu steps away from Bulgar and drawing his bow casts a spell to move to hurting the dragon. 5ft north, cast Divine Favor |
| TelinArtho12-11-07, 10:13 AM | When entangled, the dragon can't take a 5ft step (and therefore can't full attack :) ) If it does move forward, AoO to trip. If that fails and I would be retripped (don't forget my stability), drop the guisarme and draw my waraxe on my next action. If I did trip it, attack it until it dies... if it stands, retrip. On any round that it starts off standing and I am flanking, use combat expertise for -3 to hit, +3 to AC. 'Rith - you don't want another summon out here? Might be nice to have one - but I'll leave it up to you. Edit - use my strength domain power on my first attack to trip. |
| Erithmu12-11-07, 10:16 AM | Wish I could ... I used both of em and I would need to recall. ... which I should probably do ... Recall SM4 Vath, don't cast Div Favor. |
| Vathelokai12-11-07, 07:59 PM | Round 6 1 celestial bison appears. Dragon doesn't see a safe way to the humanoids, so it full attacks the Bison. It hits with everything for 31 dmg. Bison has 6 hp remaining. Round 7 Bison steps forward and gores; hits for 10 dmg. Erithmu steps north and uses pearl of power. Bulgar uses combat expertise (3) and strength domain to trip attack. He sweeps, knocking the dragon down. He follows up with a stab, but does not pierce the dragons hide. Dragon bites into the bison, and it disappears (13 dmg). Round 8 Erithmu begins summoning...? Bulgar attacks...? Dragon attempts to get out of melee...? I'd like to confirm actions before proceeding. | | | |t|t| | | | |E| |t|t| | | | | | | | | | | | | |B| |D| | | | |p|p| | | | | | |p|p| | |r| | |
| Erithmu12-11-07, 08:03 PM | I'll confirm the summon |
| TelinArtho12-11-07, 10:17 PM | Cast Magic weapon on guisarme. Edit - just want to make sure - when it did the single attack on the bison, it didn't stand right? If it attempts to leave melee in the following round, AoO on standing (attack for damage), AoO on moving away (to trip) |
| Vathelokai12-12-07, 08:45 PM | No, it did not stand (not much point is there?). Round 8 Erithmu begins summoning. Bulgar casts magic weapon. Dragon attempts to get up. Bulgar takes AoO; hits for 5 dmg. Dragon breathes on Erithmu; Erithmu makes save and takes 13 dmg. Erithmu looses concentration on his spell. Round 9 Erithmu...? Bulgar...? Dragon...? Note: no one has moved from their spaces. The dragon is standing. I looked up the dragons BW to see if it provoked AoO; seems that it doesn't, since it is a SU ability. |
| TelinArtho12-12-07, 10:30 PM | Minimum damage again? Well - at least we get a +1 for the magic weapon - so 6 damage... Trip and follow up successfully please. Max damage critical would be nice here. If it is still entangled with the goo - combat expertise for 2. |
| Vathelokai12-12-07, 10:37 PM | link to roller (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=2091) Seems it resist the trip. It was close, I'm about to go to bed, and I'm worried that I might have missed a modifier. |
| Erithmu12-12-07, 10:39 PM | Erithmu wipes some of the acid off of his face as he draws his bow. Casting a spell he moves slightly away from Bulgar and the dragon. Going w/ Divine Favor now |
| Vathelokai12-13-07, 03:43 PM | @Erithmu; where would you like to move to? @Telin: Did I get the trip roll right? Would you like to do anything with the remaining move action? |
| TelinArtho12-13-07, 03:47 PM | Good point - yes move me away from the dragon 10ft. |
| Erithmu12-13-07, 04:50 PM | Sorry move north about 10 ft. |
| Vathelokai12-13-07, 10:24 PM | The dragon flaps it's way into the air, circling back around the tree. It decends on Erithmu, biting him (for 7 dmg). The dragon lands with Erithmu between itself and the polearm-weilding dwarf. |
| Erithmu12-14-07, 09:22 AM | Erithmu steps to the southwest and draws a bag of tanglefoot glue and throws it at the dragon. 5ft step Move draw, std throw/attack. Telin .. ya gotta trip this thing this round. |
| TelinArtho12-14-07, 09:37 AM | Yeah yeah - story of my life. I'm not failing - Vath's dice are :P Move to reach and trip. If 'Rith's t-bag doesn't hit - move and draw a bag along the way and toss it at the dragon, then threaten with the guisarme. |
| Vathelokai12-14-07, 03:55 PM | Erithmu pegs the dragon with a bag of glue. Again, it is hampered, but it's wings are still free. Bulgar steps in hoping to trip the distracted dragon, but the dragon keeps it's footing. Facing an onslaught on it's mobility, the dragon withdraws, taking to the sky. |
| Erithmu12-14-07, 04:04 PM | Having spent time with Bulgar, Erithmu has picked up a few tricks along the way. Casting another spell he draws some power of martial skill D. Power, move to cover to prevent a charge. |
| TelinArtho12-14-07, 04:30 PM | I'm torn here. Either Bull's Strength or Enlarge Person. The latter will certainly help for the trips and attacks, but the full round casting kind of sucks... Bull's strength would be good. Saving Enlarge Person for the troll... might be worthwhile of course. How far away did it move? Is it still in sight? Rith - opinion? |
| Erithmu12-14-07, 04:34 PM | I would go Bulls, and a taunt |
| Vathelokai12-16-07, 11:27 PM | It flew 20 ft up and 20 ft away. It is above water, 4 squares to the west and 3 squares north (sorry; no time to make a map just now). It's momentum is currently moving it away from you, and since it is poor mobility and entangled it is moving rather slow. Erithmu has moved to get tree cover (by moving east and north). Bulgar has clear line of sight to it. |
| TelinArtho12-17-07, 12:00 AM | Yeah - I'll go with Bull's strength and the taunt... Enlarge will be more useful in the next encounter (that I'm metagaming...). Where are you going coward? Back to your mother's arms to weep? |
| Vathelokai12-17-07, 11:23 PM | Round 1 Dragon delays (skipping rolling init, since the dragon was waiting anyway) Bulgar casts breath water and moves. Bulgar steps and casts. Round 6 1 celestial bison appears. Round 9 Erithmu moves and casts divine favor Bulgar tries to trip, but fails. Dragon flies arounda and bites Erithmu for 7 dmg. Round 10 Erithmu steps back, draws, and throws a tanglefoot bag. It hits and entangles, but does not stick the dragon to the ground. Bulgar tries to trip again, but again he fails. Dragon withdraws. Round 11 Erithmu moves and casts divine power. Bulgar casts bull's str. Dragon flies and breathes acid on Erithmu. Erithmu dodges, but still takes 12 dmg. Round 12 ??? Erithmu [hp 1/41] [water breathing, bless+1; morale, daylight (suppressed), divine favor+2;luck, divine power+4bab, +6str, +7hp;enhance] Bulgar [hp 53/59] [water breathing, bless+1; morale, resist acid (20), magic weapon+1; enhance, bulls str+4; enhance] Dragon [hp -16] [darkness(suppressed), entangledalchemical] Notes: Since I have been sloppy on keeping a running tab on hp, Erithmu ended up far more wounded than I think anyone realized. That being the case, I think it fair to allow a change in the last rounds action if wanted. As it stands, the bonus 7 temp hp from divine power is the only thing that saved him. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a327/Vathelokai/CoCo%20Maps/swamp-dragon-6.jpg |
| Vathelokai12-18-07, 12:18 AM | The dragon laughs as it flies slowly down the coastline. Once it passes some trees, it strafes Erithmu again with acid. In the heat of battle, the enraged elf had hardly realized how badly he was wounded, but the blinding pain brought it all back into perspective. see above post for details. |
| Erithmu12-18-07, 12:41 AM | I think it might be your turn for healing unless you want to go bolas ... Erithmu puts arrows to the string and fires at the Dragon. |
| TelinArtho12-18-07, 10:37 AM | Bear's Endurance or drop it for a Cure Moderate Wounds? 14hp flat vs 2d8+5? I could drop the resist energy for healing also or use it or protection from energy on you (PfE I can't spontaneously cast since it is a domain spell though). |
| Erithmu12-18-07, 10:53 AM | Basically pick: average or roll the dice ... I would take the 14, and then get a resist energy somewhere. Almost all my damage is from that breath weapon. |
| TelinArtho12-18-07, 11:09 AM | Okay then - Bear's endurance on Rith for now. Next round, if the dragon is still playing keep away - cast resist energy on him. If the dragon is able to be hit with a trip though, that will take priority. Also - any time I see the effects of the t-bag being off will be used for another one. |
| Vathelokai12-18-07, 11:57 PM | Round 12 Erithmu fires 2 arrows at the dragon, but both bounce off of it's hide Bulgar moves next to Erithmu and bestows the blessing of the Bear's Endurance. Dragon begins beating it's wings harder, flying almost straight up into the air (double move; now at 40 ft elevation). It changes direction to face the heros. Erithmu [hp 15/41] [water breathing, bless+1; morale, daylight (suppressed), divine favor+2;luck, divine power+4bab, +6str, +7hp;enhance, bear endurance+4 con;enhance] Bulgar [hp 53/59] [water breathing, bless+1; morale, resist acid (20), magic weapon+1; enhance, bulls str+4; enhance] Dragon [hp -16] [darkness(suppressed), entangledalchemical] |
| TelinArtho12-19-07, 12:40 AM | Is it above the water still or above ground? Is there a way for me to move and draw a bola while moving - trip it and have it fall through my threatened area? Exactly how far away is it (40ft elevation, but how much laterally?)? |
| Vathelokai12-19-07, 08:50 AM | Unfortunately, photobucket is under maintenance, so I cannot post the map. The dragon is 25 ft directly south of Bulgar, and 40 ft in elevation. That would be 1 square south of the 'puddle' to the south of Bulgar, placing it above land. Per the distance calculator program, this puts it at a range of 35 ft. You still have a move action from last round if you would like to draw a weapon (Erithmu was only a 5 ft step away.) |
| TelinArtho12-19-07, 09:42 AM | Rith - I think I need to take a chance here. Rather than heal you - I'm going for the super-duper trip, AoO of destruction move... @Vath - Bulgar wouldn't draw a bola last round for a number of reasons - not the least of which is so that he still would threaten with his guisarme... Take a move action south, drawing a bola along the way. Throw it to trip and put both hands back on the guisarme. Trip succeeds, dragon falls - I take AoO on it for damage ... Profit. The key here is moving so that I can threaten the area where it plummets into... |
| Erithmu12-19-07, 09:55 AM | Go for it ... More arrow shots from me |
| TelinArtho12-19-07, 10:23 AM | My movement does leave you open to a dive charge... you might be better off with one arrow and then moving to cover - or simply delaying to see whether my move succeeds. |
| Erithmu12-19-07, 10:42 AM | Good call ... Shoot and move to cover. |
| Vathelokai12-19-07, 09:50 PM | Round 13 Erithmu fires an arrow. It bounces off. He moves around the tree. Bulgar moves forward and throws a bola. It's a perfect hit (crit; 14 subdual dmg). The dragon plummets. Bulgar hits it on the way down for 11 dmg. It hits the ground and takes 13 falling dmg. The last bits of the tanglefoot bag break away. The dragon gets up. Bulgar takes an AoO and hits for 12 dmg. The dragon steps in close to Bulgar and bites him for 7. |
| TelinArtho12-19-07, 11:47 PM | How'd that feel little one? Bones breaking, cuts bleeding. For the trouble you have caused the region - death is more than you deserve. 'Rith - let me get out of your line of fire here... Bulgar steps away from the creature once more and swings his guisarme under the dragon's feet. As it falls to the ground once more - he swings around the guisarme in another terrible arc. I assume my buddy will continue to fire - try to step away so that I am not offering cover in addition to being in melee with the creature. 'Rith if you have another t-bag - might be useful to use it now. If not - we can just hope to bring it down with damage now. In either case - delay for Bulgar, Bulgar will 5ft step away (out of melee and hopefully away from soft cover), then Bulgar can delay before attempting to trip (so you aren't firing at a prone target) - you can throw or fire and then I trip and follow up. |
| Erithmu12-19-07, 11:48 PM | Draw Tanglefoot on the move and throw it from 30ft ish range |
| Vath12-27-07, 12:16 AM | Round 14 Erithmu throws another bag of glue at the dragon. This time it hits perfecly, and the dragon is glued to the ground. Bulgar steps back and uses his guisarme to try to flip the dragon, but the dragon holds it's ground. Dragon, unable to move, turns it's attention back to Erithmu, spraying him with acid. Erithmu dodges the worst of it, but is still burned for 12 dmg. Erithmu [hp 3/41] [water breathing, bless+1; morale, daylight (suppressed), divine favor+2;luck, divine power+4bab, +6str, +7hp;enhance, bear endurance+4 con;enhance] Bulgar [hp 46/59] [water breathing, bless+1; morale, resist acid (20), magic weapon+1; enhance, bulls str+4; enhance] Dragon [hp -52 & 14subdual] [darkness(suppressed), entangled/stuckalchemical][/QUOTE] |
| TelinArtho12-27-07, 12:39 AM | Bulgar's trip modifier should be +8 with Bull's strength up (not that it made a difference on the roll though. Trip and attack some more or just attack for damage? I think for now - just attack for damage. Vath - do the 3hp left for 'Rith take into account the bonus hp from divine power and the hp from increased Con from Bear's endurance? Regardless, Rith - you should probably heal. As nice a target as the dragon is right now - I don't want it to pull out a nasty surprise to leave me to face it alone... Oh - and if it draws an AoO for movement - try to trip it. If it is drawing an AoO for something else - just attack for damage. |
| Vathelokai12-27-07, 08:24 AM | Vath - do the 3hp left for 'Rith take into account the bonus hp from divine power and the hp from increased Con from Bear's endurance? Yes they do. 'Rith is in quite a perilous predicament. |
| Erithmu12-27-07, 11:08 AM | Drop L. Restoration for 2d8+7 |
| Vathelokai12-28-07, 12:17 AM | Round 14 Erithmu prays and inner light heals his wounds (15 hp of them). Bulgar stabs the dragon for 11 dmg. Dragon squirms and flails like a mangy wolf, full attacking the tangle-goo. Hardened glue flies everywhere and the dragon is freed from the ground (but still entangled). Round 15 Erithmu feels sturdy enough to take another hit, so fires a couple arrows; both arrows pierce for 9 and 4 dmg. Bulgar stabs again for 13 dmg. Dragon, hovering on the edge of unconciousness, decides to withdraw. It moves away from Bulgar's polearm, then dives into the water. Erithmu looses sight of it, but Bulgar can still see it (6 west and 6 south, in the deeper water; dragon is completely submerged). Erithmu [hp 18/41] [water breathing, bless+1; morale, daylight (suppressed), divine favor+2;luck, divine power+4bab, +6str, +7hp;enhance, bear endurance+4 con;enhance] Bulgar [hp 46/59] [water breathing, bless+1; morale, resist acid (20), magic weapon+1; enhance, bulls str+4; enhance] Dragon [hp -92 & 14subdual] [darkness(suppressed), entangledalchemical] |
| TelinArtho12-28-07, 08:44 AM | Grrr - just die will you... Bulgar points out the dragon in the water. Coward. Fleeing under the water will not save you - just prolong the inevitable. Bulgar pulls out another bola and waits impatiently for the dragon to reemerge. Draw bola, ready to throw for trip. 'Rith - ready to fire on sight. Alternatively, I can move and cast Resist Energy on Rith - so at least the breath weapon is a little less threatening (or Protection from energy - that would probably be a better idea). |
| Erithmu12-28-07, 10:56 AM | Sounds about right, try to be positioned so that he has to move above ground before he can breathe on us. |
| TelinArtho12-28-07, 11:03 AM | Good point - backpeddle while drawing bola and ready to throw when the dragon is above land. |
| Vathelokai12-30-07, 10:14 PM | The warriors wait on solid ground for the dragon to reemerge. Bulgar watches the shape slip deeper into the water, then finally disappear. They wait patiently though distracted by fresh wounds. Minutes pass, and finally Bulgar puts his bolas away. "Coward." In technical terms, the dragon surrenders (retreats). One more hit would knock it out, even from the bola, and I can't bring myself to have it do something that foolish when escape would be so easy. Considering how wonderfully late this is already... :hides: I'm going to tweak the next encounter a bit. If allowed (you're guys call basicly), the last bit with the troll can be a non combat encounter. Or alternately, it can be a trap... There would be no way for me to run the troll in a fight, even if I just got tactics for it. (shame too... I was looking forward to that). |
| Erithmu12-31-07, 12:11 AM | Either or ... I'm going to be going out of town Tuesday so I'm not even going to be around. |
| TelinArtho12-31-07, 12:58 AM | I was looking forward to it as well. Rather than a "cop-out" encounter though - maybe just call the quest cancelled after the two fights and we can move on. I'd rather not get exp for an encounter that was made easier just because of time restraints - and I think it will be one 3FC for 'Rith and I anyway - so its not like we lose out on much. |
| Vathelokai12-31-07, 09:28 AM | If you're willing to let it go another week late, I'll have time later for it. Probably thursday-sunday. |
| TelinArtho12-31-07, 11:14 AM | I can always wait another week - so as long as it is okay with 'Rith and with MWB (since we're already at week 6) - then I have no issue with waiting another week. |
| Erithmu12-31-07, 02:45 PM | You could probably get an extension too, your call Vath, I'm only worried that we may have spent over our 3FC in spells for this 2nd fight. |
| Vathelokai01-01-08, 11:10 PM | I've sent out the PM asking for an extension. Please submit whatever post-fight/pre-buff actions you would like before heading away from this area. |
| TelinArtho01-02-08, 10:10 AM | Heal to full with wands of CLW. |
| TelinArtho01-04-08, 06:05 PM | For Rith I figure he will use his PoP 1sts to recover Divine favor and bless (2/3). I can't decide whether he'd use PoP 3rd for Dispel magic or SMIII - probably the latter would be good. Just figured I would post that in order to get things going since 'Rith likely won't be back until Sunday. |
| Vathelokai01-05-08, 03:18 PM | Everythings updated in the first post After tending to wounds and picking up equipment, Erithmu follows the steaming dwarf back the way they came. Even in the fading light, it is easy for the two to spot the hulking mass of a troll crawl out of the water. It stands 100 ft ahead of them on the path holding it's bow. "Where's the dragon!? Were you not come to hunt and kill, or be killed! You are weak like I thought, funny humans." |
| TelinArtho01-06-08, 11:46 PM | And yet - you do not see a dragon looming overhead now do you? We drove it off into waters that we cannot follow it into. If it comes back - I will slay it then - but I see no need in trying to outswim a dragon. If you want to claim the glory on such a defeated foe - please be my guest. Now step aside. If he moves closer at all - cast Enlarge Person from memory. |
| Vathelokai01-07-08, 08:59 AM | "You let it live!?" The nuances appear lost on the troll, who knocks an arrow. Initiative: Bulgar, then the troll, then Erithmu. |
| TelinArtho01-07-08, 09:57 AM | Kneel then start casting Enlarge Person. (Free +2 ranged AC FTW...) |
| Vathelokai01-08-08, 12:44 AM | Bulgar begins chanting and curls into his armour, but the troll gets a lucky shot with an arrow. Bulgar persists, fueled by rage. Troll full attacks with bow. 1 miss, 1 unconfirmed crit for 8 dmg. Bulgar made concentration roll. |
| Erithmu01-08-08, 10:04 AM | Erithmu saw the archer and had seen Bulgar's spell before. He added some defense to the enlarged dwarf and then moved behind the dwarf for cover. Shield of Faith (+3) on Bulgar, and then move behind him and use him for cover, draw bow.PoP|0: [DC 14] - Detect Magic x2, Read Magic, Guidance x2, Light 1/3|1: [DC 15] - Pro. from Evil (D), Divine Favor, Shield of Faith, Magic Weapon, Bless, Sanctuary 1/1|2: [DC 16] - Aid (D), Resist Energy, Hold Person, Bear's Endurance, L. | TelinArtho01-08-08, 11:20 AM | Thanks - now let's see what this troll has coming to her. Bulgar grows to the size of the giant before them and moves closer, hefting his guisarme into his hands. He sends a minor curse at the giant to test her resolve. Stand and advance 20ft - draw guisarme while moving. Next round - if still at range, cast Doom on the Troll. Next round - if still at range- divine favor from memory and close some more. 'Rith - how about a bless before I leave your immediate area? |
| Erithmu01-08-08, 11:30 AM | It is coming ... Shield of faith has shorter range :) next couple of rounds: move 20 cast Magic weapon on Bulgars trip machine Bless Divine Favor Start shooting, unless something weird comes up. |
| TelinArtho01-08-08, 12:38 PM | Let's skip the magic weapon - it's only +1 to damage and I'd rather have the +1 to hit earlier and then have you start really firing at the troll. |
| Erithmu01-08-08, 12:42 PM | Bless has a burst of 50ft ... you can't outrun me. but I see your point ... Remove MW from that cycle Vath |
| Vathelokai01-09-08, 12:49 AM | Bulgar begins to advance slowly on the Troll while Erithmu's prayers fade away behind him. More arrows fly at the dwarf, then veer away from him at the last moment. Bulgar lays curses upon the degenerate giant, but she laughs them off, knocking another arrow. As the dwarf gets close, the Troll puts away her bow, and unstraps a flint bladed glaive from her back. The two massive warriors circle slowly towards each other, waving their blades inches from each other. Round 1 Bulgar begins casting enlarge person. Kneels. Troll fires 2 arrows. 1 hits bulgar for 8. Bulgar continues casting. Erithmu casts shield of faith (+3) on Bulgar, then draws bow. Bulgar [hp 59/59] [shield of faith +3] [+4 dodge vs giant] [kneel] [casting] Erithmu [hp 41/41] Troll [hp ??-0/?? {0 subdual}] Round 2 Bulgar finishes casting and is enlarged. He stands and moves forward 30 ft, baring his polearm. Troll fires 2 arrows; both miss. Erithmu casts bless. Bulgar [hp 59/59] [shield of faith +3] [+4 dodge vs giant] [bless +1] Erithmu [hp 41/41] [bless +1] Troll [hp ??-0/?? {0 subdual}] Round 3 Bulgar moves forward and casts doom; Troll saves. Troll sheaths bow, draws glaive while moving 20 ft closer to Bulgar. Erithmu casts divine favor and moves to a good archery position. Bulgar [hp 59/59] [shield of faith +3] [+4 dodge vs giant] [bless +1] Erithmu [hp 41/41] [bless +1] Troll [hp ??-0/?? {0 subdual}] Results: Bulgar and the Troll have 15 ft (3 squares) of open space between them. They are both wielding reach weapons. Erithmu is ~90 ft away; Bulgar is providing cover between Erithmu and the Troll. |
| Erithmu01-09-08, 09:18 AM | Move to ~60ft away and take a shot, try to circle some so that I break cover. Don't shoot if the Troll is prone. If troll is prone, move and ready on being standing I want to be at about 45 ft range from the pair. |
| TelinArtho01-09-08, 09:49 AM | Well - here goes. Wish me luck? Bulgar's eye glints with the anticipation of taking down this giant. With a well timed blow, he swings his guisarme for the troll's feet, sweeping them out from under her. Attack to trip. If it works, follow up with a disarm on the glaive (remember the giant will get a -4 to resist the disarm due to being prone). Take any and all AoO generated to a) trip if troll is not prone b) disarm if troll is already prone c) damage if the troll is prone and has nothing in hand to disarm. I get 4 AoO per round. If I fail on the initial trip, drop the guisarme if I am retripped (don't forget my +4 stability bonus). If I fail on the disarm, drop the guisarme if I am reversed successfully. On my next action, pick up the weapon (suffering the AoO) and continue with my plan. At all times I want to be at the maximum distance for me weapon. So if the troll advances, I should be stepping away. Hey Rith. You got any more of that fun t-bag stuff to work with? Bulgar calls back jokingly... If you have one left - might be worth tossing it just to make it a little worse of a day for the giant... No 5ft steps FTW... If not - I might have to work it in myself. |
| Erithmu01-09-08, 09:58 AM | Not from what I see, but I might have some troll-be-stuck. I got 3 left, I'll get a bit closer :) |
| TelinArtho01-09-08, 10:06 AM | On second thought Vath - don't do the disarms. That just leaves me too wide open for dropping the guisarme and I don't really want that to happen. If it does happen with a trip, so be it - engage with my waraxe instead. |
| Vathelokai01-09-08, 06:49 PM | Bulgar steps up and easily severs the trolls connection between her feet and the ground. The troll lands hard and Bulgar stabs deeply with his guisarme. The Troll immediately jumps back up, taking another hit. She swings her glaive with a warcry and wild arc, trying to chop Bulgar's polearm in half. She misses, but the attack is fierce enough that Bulgar cannot retaliate. Bulgar steps to open a lane for Erithmu and trips. Trip success, follow up for 11 dmg. AoO on standing for 14 dmg. Troll attempts sunder. Provokes AoO; bulgar misses. Troll fails opposed attack roll. Erithmu moves closer to evade cover and fires an arrow. Hits for 10. Dinner time for me. I'll continue this evening. |
| Vathelokai01-10-08, 12:50 AM | {grumble} summoned away again... I'll get more tomorrow. @Rith: tanglefoot this round, or next round? |
| Erithmu01-10-08, 02:07 AM | Tanglefoot from range of 30 ft ... so that should be -2 distance -4 melee + bab + dex +1 bless +2 D. Favor = +4 vs Touch ... otherwise shoot and move. |
| TelinArtho01-10-08, 07:34 AM | you won't be firing into melee since Bulgar and the troll are at reach :) |

| TelinArtho01-13-08, 07:49 PM | Then stay out of the way troll. Your interference is not wanted nor warranted. Bulgar moves up to threaten the troll with his guisarme again. Move to the required range and ready to trip on moving away. Take attack and AoO to trip/attack for damage. If she voices surrender - I am willing to let her run away. Nice not taking any damage there... |

Erithmu moves and fires again, hitting for 9 dmg. Round 12 Bulgar steps closer and trips, but the troll holds it's ground again. Both the troll and the GM remember that it can counter trip, and it does so. Despite the dwarven sturdiness of footing, Bulgar begins to fall. He chooses to drop his guisarme instead. Troll draws a net and throws it at Bulgar. The dwarf dodges. Erithmu takes a shot at the wide-open, throwing troll and pierces it's head (double 20!s).
