His goal was before him, the diety of life had been clear. It was with all the blessings of the Gods of the Celestial order that Balbanes strode to peril this day. It had come to him in a sending whilst he slept. The visage of the servant of the Gods filling his mind with visions of this temple, of what he would find there. Balbanes founded a corner and continued past a beautifully sculpted statue of an armored celestial, bright sword upraised. It did not escape him that directly opposite grinned a demon of the lower planes, scaled wings upraised and fiery whip in its clawed hands. Both statues seemed to regard him as he continued, their glittering eyes following his every movement. It was with more wariness that the good warrior passed the statues and continued towards a great oaken doors. Here he paused. The visions stopped here, the whisperings that led him along his path. It was here that the guidence of the Gods faded into darkness and obscurity. Taking a deep breath Balbanes threw open the door and proceeded to enter the room. It was huge, far larger then any room he had before entered. Towering columns rose up into the darkness, their highest reaches fading in the scant light. The rows of columns continued like some strange forest, disappearing into the black. Balbanes stopped for a second to wonder at the sheer scope of what he was viewing. Truly this room was a mighty artifact of magic! His feet kept him on his course as he moved. It wasn't long before he encountered a sole object. A stone throne lay in the center of the room. An aged gnome lay slumped over in its unwelcoming embrace. A single point of light beamed down from the ceiling to rest on this spot, almost as a signal to draw him hither. The holy warrior approached the throne with caution. The gnome's eyes fluttered open. "Balbanes!" he wheezed, tottering on his stone seat, "Balbanes, stay away, flee while you can! It's a trap! They're here, they've come for me!"
King Uther 12-22-05, 06:51 PM	Balbanes, using his celestial senses, noticed it was some degree of ambush. Knowing they could by no means stand up to his holy might, he set off to combat. He back himself up to the wall, preventing any flank maneuvers and called up his prayers. An aura surrounded him, increasing vitality. [Casting Bear's Endurance] He then drew his glaive, holding it in one hand, and in the other his wand of entangle. If I have more than 1 action possible, I'll buff with SoF.
Iced 12-22-05, 07:50 PM	The avatar of life conjures a shield and prepares for attack. A creature steps from behind the throne. Dark scales cover its body, two horns protrude from the top of its head. In its hand it bears a long spear. As you watch the spear flares into flaming life. The demonic creature circles. "I have been waiting for you Balbanes. It has been long since I have had worthy prey! Prepare to die for the continued glory of Xandis the mighty!" Balbanes: 4+3: 7 Servant of the Flame: 11+4: 15 The demonic warrior raises his spear and howls out a battle cry as he charges! [Attack 17 +2 BAB +5 Str +1 Magic +2 Charge = 27 Damage = 5 +7 Str +1 Magic +5 Fire = 18] The spear pierces Balbanes' protective shield and digs deep into his shoulder, drawing blood. Balbanes cries out in pain as the flames surrounding the edge of the magical blade flare to life, the demon laughs. The flames surrounding the weapon burn even brighter as the half-fiend draws back the spear in preparation for another strike! "I'm dissappointed Balbanes, I thought you'd be swifter prey!" Balbanes is up
King Uther 12-22-05, 08:17 PM	The Avatar of Life did not dare fall for the petty words of a puny dark god. He knew his god was more powerful, and stood calm despite obvious wounds to himself. He spoke back, to bring fear to the eyes of the demonic creature. "Xandis will be but another absorbed portfolio. Fire, you say? That would surely make a nice addition once Xandis falls. Pay homage to a stronger god and bow before me." Iced 12-23-05, 11:58 AM	The avatar of life swings his holy weapon as the demon draws back leaving a long stinging gash. He drops both the weapon and his wand as the enemy cringes, takes a step back and chants an incantation. His form blurs and there are suddenly three Balbanes' glaring at the demon! "Coward! Do you fear fighting me fairly, pawn of the celestials? Xandis will crush you and your weak masters! As you can already tell, we've dealt with your seer quickly enough!" He laughs as he slutes in the direction of the crumpled old gnome on the stone seat. "We've taught him the rules of war! Which end of a longsword to stick in thine enemy!" The half-demon lunges with his spear, seeking to drive its flaming form through Balbane's heart. The spear flies, and is deflected (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=319407) by Balbanes' magical shield! "Come forth! Do not hide in your magic! King Uther 12-23-05, 04:50 PM	Balbanes smiles, knowing the devilish Avatar is only speaking out of fear. Balbanes steps left again, drawing a scroll with ancient draconic symbols upon it. When Balbanes reads the words, his form turns invisible, making him unable to be struck. Action: Balbanes steps left, drawing and casting Invisibility. Iced 12-23-05, 06:19 PM	"No! I will not be tricked by you!" The demon runs forward and at the last second discards his flaming spear and tries to dive-tackle Balbanes! He flies (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=319764) overhead as the holy warrior ducks desperately. The confused and enraged fiend calls again, "Face me like the skum you are! Don't hide behind magic!" [thank the 50% miss chance for invisibility...]
King Uther 12-27-05, 01:47 AM	Balbanes moves into position, aware he can change the flow of battle. He steps 5ft to the right, lifting the spear into his hands. Wielding a flaming spear, balbanes thrusts it at the evil warrior, trying to surprise him from his invisible location. Action: Balbanes steps 5ft, picks up the spear, and tries to stab the Devil with it. If he is not in reach, ready to attack vs charge. Iced 12-27-05, 03:17 AM	The spear grates off of the gorund, the half-fiend glowers in horror. "No, you shall not use my own weapons against me!" He dives desperately for the haft, but Balbanes is already out of reach and jabs like a striking snake. The creature howls in pain and fury. "This is mine!" He steps forward and attempts to wrest the flaming weapon from Balbanes' grasp. Balbanes' suprise is evident, the thrust this creature had just endured would have doomed any normal warrior! He twists desperately, off balance. The demon presses his slight advantage and with a powerful thrust deprives (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=321781) Balbane's of his stolen weapon. "So!" the demon mocks, his eyes blazing in anger, "You have tried to wrest Cith'Ungol from my grasp! This weapon is mine and mine alone. Gifts of the Gods should not be touched by mortal hands!" [Succesful disarm, Balbanes loses the spear. You may want to consider crafting some armor spikes Uther, if only to threaten the 5' area. You would have gotten an AoO if you had them.]
King Uther 12-27-05, 04:22 PM	It never fit his look, so I never got them. Balbanes steps back, his body glowing with energy. Bolts of force began to emanate from his body, showering the demonic overlord with energy damage. Action: Balbanes steps back, pulls out scroll of MMCL5, and peppers him with 3 bolts. Iced 12-27-05, 04:32 PM	The demon howls as it is struck by the hostile magic. Its entire form seems to whither and shake under the assault. "You'll pay for this!" Grasping his spear, the demon steps forward and launches into a complicated attack. His spear strikes like a snake and buries (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=322358) its flaming head into the heart of a specteral image. The demon howls in rage as he overbalances and the image resolves. The real Balbanes smiles grimly at the hellspawn's confusion. "Confusion to my enemies" Balbanes whispers. "Coward!" the demon shouts enraged.
Iced 12-28-05, 03:04 PM	With your permission, another magic missile to meet deadline... Balbanes steps back again, grim faced, and lets forth a torrent of magic (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=323163) from the arcane writings in his hands. The demon howls as the missiles strike before falling senseless to the floor as they resolve their power on its scaled hide. The flaming spear drops with a clatter and then begins to disaappear before your eyes, consumed by the flames. Balbanes bends over the body, to ensure that the fall is not some over-clever feign to catch him unawares. His inspection is inturrupted by a weak couch from the stone seat. The gnome! He's still alive! using two scrolls of CL5 MM, Balbanes downs a tough opponent.
King Uther 12-28-05, 03:16 PM	I'm not too worried about deadline, since we have 3 weeks and we started from behind. Balbanes stands over his fading opponent, and puts his hands upon the burned husk of the enemy. His hands begin to glow, and the life force of this Avatar begins to become absorbed. Xandis Avatar's essence becomes fragile and flakes away, and Balbanes very existence growas stronger. He feels his back aching, as if something is growing from within him. Absorbing this evil did not come easy, as Balbanes felt somewhat weakened afterwards.
Iced 12-28-05, 03:22 PM	The demon's very soul crumbles to dust under Balbanes' spell and his powers begin to seep into the good warrior. Flashes of memories begin to play across his mind, but Balbanes quickly shuts them out, not wanting to see the horrific deeds of his enemies past. The innocents slain, the houses burned, the sacrificial rituals to dark Gods. A Balbanes made tired by the exertions of the body stands, and yet also stands a soul made stronger by the strength of his enemies. Another rattling gasp sounds from the stone throne and Balbanes' eyes narrow in concern for the ravaged creature there.
King Uther 12-28-05, 03:27 PM	"How do you fair, gentle prophet? This place will soon become a dark battleground. If you are able, you should escape."
Iced 12-28-05, 03:33 PM	"Balbanes!" the old gnome gasps, "It is too late for me now. They have stolen what I would give to you. The crystal sphere lies with the dark ones. Here!" a shaking hand grasps something from the inside of his robes and draws it out. A small twinkling pentogram gleams in his hand. "This is the key, the lock is there." He points a gnarled finger at a nearby column. "It is right that you should join us Balbanes. Your time will come to rise the the heavens." The gnome seems to suddenly suffuse with light. Balbanes blinks and suddenly where the old gnome once sat lies nothing to mark his presence but a few drops of dried blood.
King Uther 12-31-05, 01:19 AM	Balbanes stepped confidently forward, feeling the holy energy granted to him by the heavens permeate his body. He felt his body lift, as if his physical existence transcended gravity. The time for redemption of evil was near. Before entering, Balbanes will use the scroll of Fly.
Iced 12-31-05, 03:33 AM	Floating forward, inches from the gorund, Balbanes fits the key into the lock and turns it clockwise. A low rumble sounds like distant thunder before a man-sized portal appears before him. Taking a deep breath, Balbanes plunges through. White lights dance around him, impossibly fast. Glimpses of other places for a fraction of a second. A fraction of a second later, an eternity in his mind, he is flung from the other end of the portal with great force. Calling upon his powers of flight, he halts his forward momentum and channels it upward towards the sky. Floating above the trees he looks down at the ground. He's in a jungle. Violent green assaults his senses. Brightly colored birds fly squacking through the underbrush, glittering eyes stare out from the foilage, and a lone hunting creature soars high above. Balbanes quickly dives back for the cover of the trees to better hide himself from the flying hunter. Unless his eyes decieve him it is a giant Roc, hunter of legend. Shaking his head as if to clear it, the avatar of life goes back to inspect the portal. As he gets close the air ripples and the whole of the energy collapses. With winking sparks and a shocking burst, the portal dissapates leaving him stranded on this side. Blinking from the blast, Balbanes notices a sign on the ground. A footprint leads off into the jungle to the north. Tracking the humanoid, the avatar of life moves through a dense patch of forest. Something's wrong... he thinks to himself. It's too quiet, the animals are silent! and indeed they are. Not a soul in the animal world utters a sound. Balbanes tenses. Something's not right! You're up Uther.
King Uther 12-31-05, 02:42 PM	Balbanes mentally focuses himself, giving himself a much needed boost in defenses. Expecting to be assaulted soon, his protective heavenly energies begin to define themselves, warding off any possible attacks. Balbanes uses scroll of Mage Armor and Scroll of Shield.
Iced 01-02-06, 03:39 AM	Balbanes calls his energies to bear, concentrating on his physical armor against harm. He feels the hairs on the back of his neck prickle, old instincts scream. Both strikes fail to kill their intended target, but Balbanes' attack has little more effect than the spiders'. His weapon hits its tough hide and barely nicks it. The beast howls as it vanishes into the ethereal plane. With his enhanced sight, Balbanes spots it and readies to accept future attacks and hit it with his own. if you post a set of tactics sometime tonight i can get this run before deadline. Balbanes, seeing this creature is unnatural, calls within himself the recently absorbed power of the evil Avatar. Within his soul he feels a burning, and out of his very soul a flame descends upon the spider, burning it entirely. The heat begins to catch the spider on fire, burning its mandibles. Balbanes pulls and casts Flaming Sphere from a scroll. Hopefully the next encounter will be easier for me and I won't have to divert all my time to everything else.

Twice the spirit weapon of the enemy comes at him, drawing a thin line of blood across his chest. The wounds begin to take their toll on Balbanes and as he falters so too does his enemy. The spiritual weapon dissolves into sparks and minute motes of light before his eyes. The black tentacles melt away, dropping the cleric back too the gorund. The evil servant's eyes eiden as the glowing Balbanes descends from the heavens like a meteor. He raises his crossbow as if to defend himself. Balbanes can feel his powerful presence, as it has been a forever since he has seen it. "My son, you have been my surviving essence for an eternity. The time is near when I will once again walk the planes. Remain strong, Balbanes, as your power will soon rival the gods. Your second form is about to complete itself. My Life essence will flow through your holy blood, infusing you with my celestial inheritance. As you have walked the Material Plane, have you not noticed the unholy nature of the living now? These are dark times where the ungrateful are rewarded. It is your destiny to lead them to their reward. Annihilation. Creation will soon repeat itself. But the time is not now. I must grow stronger. You are the tip of my sword, the plates of my armor. May my light guide you." Balbanes bows before his god, and his skin on his back begins to rip to make way for wings. He is levitated into the air, his skin molds to a stronger material. Within moments he is given something he hadn't had for millenia. Balbanes celestial body had once again been given life.
