| Erithmu06-27-07, 06:34 PM | Highly overrated ... Tending a forest for the rest of a lifetime was not in Willowmoon's being. Well maybe it was, but it didn't suit her present state of mind. A state that had existed for well over a few months now. The last month had only been a confirmation, she had been on the road traveling through the northern forests and it was high time to get out of them. Sure the elves had been nice enough to her, but they were kinda ... well ... elves... North of the forest was cold and that really wasn't of any interest, East was nothing but Barbarian tribes, hunters, and a life full of constant strife. To the west was lots of water, and rather salty at that. ... which left south... Just getting warmed up, I haven't worked out encounters yet, but get some thinking down for her. If you aren't taking darkgreen, then just post and I'll switch it. |
| MitzaVolchenko06-27-07, 09:59 PM | Occasional strangers pass from the south...more of late...perhaps there is something of worth for me to do wherever they are coming from. Willow thought to herself. "You should hop off here, Mansus. I am going on a walkabout," Willowmoon flicker her tail to wake the grig who had been hitching a ride all morning. "Thank you for the help with my armor and trinkets." "Aww, where ya going Willow?" "South a ways, I think. I may travel further and longer than you care to be gone from your glade." "You are an odd one, Willowmoon, but I'll wish you luck anyway," the tiny blue man flashed a grin and yanked four hairs from Willow's tail before leaping into the branches above. "Ow! What did you do that for?! Luck?!" "Nah, I figured I might get the Queen to bring you back when you get yourself killed in one of your crazy adventures." "You are going to be the one that gets killed...imagine yanking hairs out of a creature a thousand times your size! You are lucky that I am the most forgiving and gracious of friends!" Willowmoon gave a long melodious peal of whinnying laughter. "I'll be back. If only to prove you wrong about my adventures." Willow gave a small half rear and cantered off leaving the good natured laughter of her friend behind her. I am good with whatever, whenever. I took a few liberties to start fleshing out Willow's personality a bit...I am starting to get a feel for her as a person which is nice. I think she is a good hearted teenager, looking to find her own place in the grand scheme of things. |
| Erithmu07-01-07, 06:31 PM | Willow traveled south a few days finding mostly forest. It was on the third day that she got the sneaking suspicion that she was out of the safety of the forest. She didn't see much in the way of animal life, and the fey were well hidden if they were about. She also started to notice a curious well worn path network rather than the grounded mulch. She tried to avoid those but it seemed like she was being followed. Pausing for a moment, she looked around to the left and right and then saw him, just barely. Passing by his hiding spot Willow noted the man in dark forest gear holding a bow. He was moving silently through the brush, but not silently enough. http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=forest;a=Name,M,27,58;b =Name,M,18,59 Willow ManSorry for lack of posting: put in about 20 hrs of work in the last 48 hrs, and on a little bit of a mental/emotional roller coaster to boot. |
| MitzaVolchenko07-01-07, 10:52 PM | Snorting softly, Willow pretends not to notice the man and puts her head down as if to snatch up a bit of grass then takes a few steps toward his location as if grazing. Trying her best to look unconcerned, she concentrates on her ability to detect evil. Ruddy bugger is following me. Stay calm, could just be watching you because you are the most magnificent creature he has ever seen... Willow thinks to herself trying be casual and thinking perhaps leaving home wasn't her best idea ever. No worries :) Take your time. I don't mind burning credits if the real world put sus into overtime, or if you need to shorten this to an MQ. I appreciate you taking the time to run it at all. Bluff if needed to fake her follower out, detect evil at will to see if she can get any read on whether he is an item of concern. If he is not evil, she will hail him. If he is evil, depending on terrain quality, try to bluff him into letting her close a bit and then go for melee. Archer, so prefer to base, single horn attack, initiate grapple, beat unto death or near enough as to have him completely subdued before questioning. |
| Erithmu07-02-07, 09:50 AM | Willow takes some slow movements as the man gets closer. Now within about 60ft she can sense that the man has no aura of evil about him, but he has nocked an arrow to his string. A hunter or poacher probably, just trying to make ends meet. |
| MitzaVolchenko07-02-07, 10:51 AM | Maybe the arrow isn't meant for me...still, poaching is not terribly nice...maybe a quick lesson? Yes, that is just the thing...make him think twice before he shoots at folks! Since he isn't evil, Willow won't go for an outright kill, instead she'll rush him and go for a grapple, pin him before she deals a bunch of damage to him and then talk to him. |
| Erithmu07-02-07, 05:30 PM | Willow manages to put the Hunter at ease by nibbling a bit on some grass. As he is about to make his move he looks down at his bow and then glances up to find Willowmoon chasing him. Ducking behind a tree he whistles loudly as Willow comes around the corner and tries to get him within her hoofs. The Hunter seems to squirm away and then takes a step back and fires off three arrows. The first bounces off her armor, the second goes wide and the last finds a crack in the barding and causes a burning sensation to go up and down her flank. The result of the whistle is now clear as a black bear lopes into view, while it is still smaller than her, it could still interfere with her plans. Prefight: Willow Bluffs (27 vs 3) Surprise round: Willow bases the hunter Round 1 Hunter - withdraws to cover and calls his AC Willow bases and starts a grapple (Touch: 21 Grap 24 vs 27 Round 2 Hunter Steps back and rapid shoots (Atks: 23,15,20! confirm 27 dmg: 28) Black Bear - Comes loping in (60ft off) Willow - ??? Willow 39/67hp Hunter xx Bear xx |
| MitzaVolchenko07-02-07, 06:06 PM | I don't have a very good feel for hte layout here...for instance how far away a withdraw took the hunter...am I dealing with poor terrain or do I have a charging lane to the bear? How far apart are the bear and the hunter? What kind of cover are we looking at between them, between each of them and me, etc. I am considering a few options but I am not sure which checks apply in this case. For isntance I can on the fly handle animal or wild empathy the animal companion, or I can just hurt it, flat out intimidate it, or the hunter...or possibly just go for the hunter and see what I can do there. Fly is also an option, but again I need a terrain description to determine whether or not that is viable :) |
| Erithmu07-03-07, 06:37 PM | http://www.hwx.it/coco/coco.php;v=1;map=forest;a=Name,M,27,58,3 0,52,32,52,32,49;b=Name,L,18,59,20,57,23 ,48,30,48;d=Name,M,32,64,32,61 Red = Man (he is 5ft North ... ran out of pins) Blue = Willow D.Green = Bear |
| MitzaVolchenko07-03-07, 07:29 PM | If I am reading the map correctly, I need to move forward and north a little to threaten the hunter. The bear is in range to charge in if it wants to...hrm...go ahead and move to base the hunter and attempt a grapple again. "Not Today, laddy! I don't know who your people are, but where I come from, only the foulest would attack one of my kind." |
| Erithmu07-03-07, 07:48 PM | Willow moves up and gets a hold of the hunter this time, he calls to the bear who seems to be having second thoughts, but as the Hunter breaks free the bear charges trying to help it's master. It gets a good swipe at Willow but it doesn't have much energy behind it ... it must have been hunting all day. Round 2 Hunter Steps back and rapid shoots (Atks: 23,15,20! confirm 27 dmg: 28) Black Bear - Comes loping in (60ft off) Willow - moves and goes for grapple (Touch:24 Grap 27 vs 20 Dmg: 9 NL) Round 3 Hunter - M: Bear attack willow (HA push: 30) S: break grapple (32 vs 28) Bear charges: (atk: 20! confirm: no dmg 5) Willow - ??? Willow 34/67hp Hunter xx - 9 NL Bear xx |
| MitzaVolchenko07-03-07, 11:24 PM | If I read that correctly, both the bear and the hunter are basing Willow now. Full attack the hunter. Withdraw and heal with lay on hands or cure spell like ability whichever as needed...if the hunter goes down intimidate/wild empathy/handle animal the bear into backing off if possible... Again, I prefer not to actually kill the hunter...he may not be nice, but he probably doesn't deserve death. I'll trust your judgement as I know you are pressed for time :) "Look you fool! I don't want to kill you or your friend, but if you persist, I will do what I must." |
| Erithmu07-04-07, 12:05 AM | So I made an error ... he is evil ... If you want we can go back to round 1 and you attack instead of grappling if you wish. |
| MitzaVolchenko07-04-07, 12:53 AM | Go for the kill. You may use your judgemet as to how to adjust this...restart or just continue from where it is. The hunter dies as quickly as possible, the bear is not as likely to be a problem with his human dead...note the that circle against evil is not optional for a unicorn...it applies throughout :) |
| Erithmu07-04-07, 11:11 AM | Rewind ... Willow moves a bit closer and senses the stench of evil on the Hunter. With a quick tail flip she gets in his face. Startled he makes a run for it not realizing that Willow is much faster than he is. Taking a horn graze he calls for his ally and then begins to fire off arrows. The Hunter's Bear arrives just in time to see Willow impale him and then push him off her horn to the ground. The bear is about to make an attack, but begins to cower some. Willow puts the beast at ease and then shoos him off into the forest to return to a normal life. ... From Surprize round: Willow bases Hunter Round 1: Hunter Withdraws and calls AC Willow moves and attacks (atk 23 dmg: 18) Round 2: Hunter Steps back and rapid shoots (Atks: 23,15,20! confirm 27 dmg: 28) Willow Steps to prevent the bear from charging and full attacks (atks: 30,18,12 dmg: 14) Round 3: Hunter steps back an pushes his bear (HA: 30) and fires a single shot (atk: 26 dmg: 9) Bear double moves in to base willow Willow Steps and full attacks (20!,19,16 Confirm:28 dmg: 29,6) Round 4: Bear seeing its master down isn't able to attack Willow 30/62 Hunter xx-67 Dead NE Human Ranger 10 FE: Animals: +4 H:elf +4, H:Human +2 14 15+1 13+1 10 12 08 +1 Comp LBow (+2 str) 2600 +1 MC shirt 2100 +2 Dex gloves 4000 Boots of spring/Stride (5500) MW longsword 315 Arrows F Rapid, Many, Track PBS, Dodge, Mobility, Shot on run, Combat Reflexes Black bear Entangle, Endure elements* Barkskin |
| MitzaVolchenko07-04-07, 11:44 AM | "Poor fella...not much taste in friends..." Willow snuffles around in the hunter's belongings trampling the bow into splinters and breaking arrows. I wonder where he came from... Competing her investigation of the corpse, Willowmoon casts about to see if there is any indication of where the human might have come from. |
| Erithmu07-06-07, 10:52 PM | Rummaging around in the Ranger's pack she finds the usual trail rations and supplies. She also finds a few parchments. Flipping a few of them open she finds some maps of the local area and a few wanted notices. The one that caught her interest however was the following: Northern Forest Fur Company is looking for trained hunters for fur hunting. Rewards offered for continued service. Additionally other 'magic beasts' of the forest will be offered double reward if returned in good condition. -NFFC |
| MitzaVolchenko07-07-07, 01:35 AM | Willowmoon piaffes on the paper snorting in anger. Magical Beasts! That fool dared to think of me as a beast! We shall have to see about this! Willow pulls the map aside and studies it looking for any mark that might indicate the camp of the NFFC. |
| Erithmu07-08-07, 12:12 PM | Willow fiddled around with the maps but it was hard to make heads or tails of them. She could locate the location of the NFFC but it was hard to determine a north on the map as there were no markings. Scanning for land marks she found a few that she thought were the ones but wasn't entirely sure. It was the best option she had so she made her way towards where she thought she was going. Passing through some trees she came to a glade where it appeared that two creatures were fighting. The first was a much larger sized bear than before and the other was something else. The bear was on it's last legs as the other creature finished it off with a claw. The bear fell and the other creature moved in for it's victory. It hadn't seemed to notice Willow yet... Distance 150ft In quests you don't heal before each fight (if I'm not mistaken) so if you want to use some healing before you engage here lemme know. You are currently at 30/62hp. |
| MitzaVolchenko07-09-07, 01:08 PM | Can I get a basic description ofhte creature? It apparently has claws...how about scales? fur? wings? two legs? ten legs? large? small? huge? On healing...was probably thinking of misions...and since this isn't one and I have just reviewed the quest rewards table looks like I have never received the right rewards for a quest yet...but then I think I got the free heals on past quests...so whatever. Yeah, go ahead and heal up using least to greatest and top up with Lay on Hands rather than an SLA depending on results. |
| Erithmu07-09-07, 01:19 PM | Will post when I get out of class |
| MitzaVolchenko07-09-07, 02:16 PM | Take your time. If you need to move ahead with the fight, Willow generally will charge/full attack foes that are her size or larger, healing as needed...withdrawing and charging again as needed. If it is smaller than herself, she will generally try a grapple and go from there. Had I realized she had to heal herself after each encounter, I probably would have tossed in some healing potions, but too late for that now so we'll just see how it goes. If he detect evil tells her it is evil and it seems to have a physical advantage over her, she'll use her smite on it...beyond that you can proceed and just ask if something weird comes up :) |
| Erithmu07-09-07, 05:12 PM | It looks like a Large sized bipedal dino, the most striking feature is that it has no eyes, and it seems to have a hint of the lower planes about it's body, Obviously evil. Healing 30/67 CLW: 42/67 CLW: 51/67 CLW: 62/67 LoH: 67/67 Used: 3*CLW 5/22pts of LoH |
| MitzaVolchenko07-10-07, 10:20 AM | Hmmm...not sure that flying would help much, so I guess we just melee it out and see who the dice gods like. Take the AC hit for the extra damage warranted by a charge. Go ahead and smite it on the charge if it pings as evil and power attack max on first strike. That will make her initial attack with the horn on charge 15+2chrg+11smite-6power attack=22 to hit dealing 2d8+20+6 (12? don't know if that doubles on a charge) for damage and dropping her AC2 which should be soaked up by the circle against evil. Withdraw and heal then charge again as needed. |
| Erithmu07-10-07, 10:48 AM | Willow lowered her horn and gave a gallop. The creature turned and looked directly at her as the blow came, but it didn't have time to avoid. The horn pierced the side of the creature and it tried to make a scream but only fell over on it's side. Round 1 Willow - charge: 39 dmg: 57 (Massive: 7) dead I think since your horn gets 1.5 Str bonus you count it as 2 handed ... and thus get the 2:1 return on Power attack, you also forgot the bonus to damage from the smite Monster: Fiendish Destrachan |
| MitzaVolchenko07-10-07, 12:01 PM | Glad I could make things easy on ya...been a long time since Iplayed a brutish character much less a paladin of any sort...closest was a blackguard about two years ago ;P New one on me for monsters...will look it up when I finish up my fights. "This place is crawling with nasty beasties...though so far only the two legged variety...sort of," she ammends looking at the beast. Willowmoon checks to be sure that the poor bear is dead and beyond her help. Then she paws the remains of the creature off of her horn and then rubs her horn vigorously against a tree to remove the gore then shoves it into the sandiest ground she sees to scour it a bit. I am going to have to find a friendly set of thumbs soon. The armor may look good, but I think it is starting to chafe a bit. With a heavy wuffling sigh, Willow looks around trying to reorient her direction toward the camp and looking to see if there is any indication of where the beast came from... I wonder if they'd pay me for that thing's corpse...it certainly qualifies as an unusual magical beast...well maybe not magical inherently...but certainly unusual. |
| Erithmu07-10-07, 12:10 PM | I got it wrong on PA ... we are going to go into round 2 ... you dealt 45 pts of dmg, but I'm back in class again |
| Erithmu07-10-07, 04:34 PM | After her opening blow Willow battled through the creature as it attacked with sonic attacks that made the grass grow but without damaging it. With two more horn strikes the creature was brought down. Checking the bear it seemed as if the animal was only slightly wounded and mostly knocked out. It was interesting Round 1 Willow - charge: 39 dmg: 45 Destrachan - Des Harmonics (Flesh): (9dmg R:pass dmg = 4) Round 2 Willow Full: (32,21,1! dmg 14,4-5=0) Destra - As above (14dmg R:pass dmg = 7) Round 3 Willow Full: (32,23,20 min dmg kills) Willow 56/67hp - (healing?) Go ahead and edit Willow's prison stuff, I don't want you to get stuck there. Next encounter will be posted as soon as I figure out what I want to do. I'm leaving on the 13th so I'm going to try to be done by the 12th. |
| MitzaVolchenko07-10-07, 06:04 PM | I didn't see the initial notice of change, so okay...whatever works :) Go ahead and do an untrained heal check on the bear and if that doesn't bring it around, use a point of lay on hands. And yeah, go ahead and heal up. Willow gently nuzzles the bear into a more comfortable position to make sure that it can breathe and checks it over for the worst of damage applying pressure with her nose to any obviously bleeding wounds. "Poor thing. You'll survive. Maybe I can find you a druid..." |
| Erithmu07-10-07, 06:55 PM | Willow looks over the creature and finds that there are very few physical wounds and the bear breathes quite well. It would seem that the bear is just knocked out more than anything. As she moves it, the bear opens his eyes as if it had just woken up from a nap, then with a slight twitch it shifts its weight and goes back to sleep. Willow is sure that the bear will be alright, it will just need a bit of rest. Willow closed up her own wounds and looked at the beast and wondered what had created it. She quickly got her answer. "I liked that creation ... Hrumph ... shame you killed it. I can't tell you how much work it took to create it, but I'm sure that the horn on your head will be more than enough to make up for it... Willow turned to see what appeared to be a two legged black dragon with no wings. It had full plate on and a shield with what appeared to be some type of portal with a dragon standing in it. "Horsey want to play?" and with that he begins to chant and gesture. Heal Check: The bear has a significant amount of Non-Lethal Damage and very little Lethal damage. Healing (all LoH) 16/22LoH used Round 1: Dragonish - chant and gesture (spellcasting) Willow - ??? (range 150ft open field still) |
| MitzaVolchenko07-10-07, 09:33 PM | "So you are the one buying the lives of the innocent creatures of this forest? That's not nice." Charge him then full attack him in subsequent rounds. If he moves away, charge him again. If he flies, quaff potion and continue. I'll rely on SR, circle vs. evil, and saves for the moment to mitigate his casting damage. Withdraw and heal if needed. |
| Erithmu07-11-07, 08:50 PM | Willow charges the unexpecting draconic caster. Her horn strikes true and he falters in his spellcasting. With a step back he casts a quicker spell while drawing his flail. Will follows up with a barage that leaves the dragon looking very frail. It tries to wrap the flail around Willow's leg but doesn't have the energy to complete the maneuver. Willow quickly finishes the job. Above her head an observer seems to have taken notice of the fight and is rounding the area on a Giant Bat. Landing he takes a look at the bear and creates a green aura around his hands. Touching the bear it wakes up and moves slowly, but with much more strength than it had before. The human turned to face Willow who was now trotting up slowly. "We haven't seen a unicorn in these parts for quite some time. We should talk, but not here. Denth's clerics may return to claim the body of the one you killed. That would be bad for us. The name is Harz, these two are a couple of friends that I have made along the way. They let me know of the comings and goings of the forest. There seems to be much today." | MitzaVolchenko07-13-07, 01:07 AM | "Well met, Harz. I am Willowmoon, and to my knowledge I am the only one of my people for several days canter," Willowmoon takes a moment to sand her horn clean and trample the draconic cleric's skull to a fine red pulp before returning her attention warily to Harz. "Lead on." Thanks for the runs Rith...had fun and am looking forward to Zwei and Yorick's mission...gotta warn you Yorick has decided he wants to trap Zwei into marrying him, so Mac's RP may get absurd at some point. |
