| MitzaVolchenko01-19-06, 04:47 AM | Introduction: Kimhari knew what he wanted, he just didn't know where to find it. The finer magic shops' keepers wouldn't give him the time of day much less let him actually examine their merchandise. He had no idea why not. The notion that his hulking brutish size and mannerisms paired with his vicious looking array of weapons might scare people never crossed his mind. Despondent and hungry after a long afternoon's trek through the market quarters, Kimahri found himself seated at an outdoor table of a small cafe. The food was good, plentiful, and cheap. The formidable matron that ran the place brooked no nonsense, and one could be fairly certain that while your tablemate might be disreputable, at least while they were at Mahri's they would keep their hands out of your purse. Mahri also didn't seem to mind Kimahri's appearance or manner. In fact she always saved him the fattest of the fruit tarts and never charged him extra for it. He heaved a huge sigh as Mahri brought him another drink and his dessert. Mahri slipped into the chair across from him scowling ina motherly fashion, "Now wot's yer boggle t'day, Kimahri? I ain't never seen ye look so down. Tell me wot's at ye an mebbe I kin give ye a fix fer it." |
| MitzaVolchenko01-20-06, 12:33 AM | *poke poke* That is your cue Dr. Funk. |
| Dr. Funk01-20-06, 03:06 PM | Well im trying to find this magicial item that have some of the strongest animals in it. i believe if i can get it, fight whatever i may come across will help me sorry i had school and stuff. but during the weekend if it takes a while to post im too lazy then |
| MitzaVolchenko01-20-06, 04:11 PM | Mahri listens patiently and then looks at you thoughtfully before speaking, "Well dearie, if'n ye don't mind a bit o'risk, I know a merchant feller wot might give ye a price break an ain't to likely ta be overworried 'bout yer looks." "His name is Gretch. He be a lil lizardy sort an keeps his shop 'bout half an hour's walk outta the main gates. He got run outta the merchant districts on accounta his kin comin in large numbers ta gaze in awe at their respectable kin. You go on out an see 'im t'night. Tell 'im Mahri sent ye, and said ta treat ye right or she'd skin 'im and make a pair o'boots outta 'is hide and THEN make 'im pay 'is tab." Mahri gives you directions to the shop which is apparently set into a low hillside hobbit hole style. |
| Dr. Funk01-20-06, 07:47 PM | thank you for the help, i shall be going Gretch seems familiar name |
| MitzaVolchenko01-21-06, 12:35 PM | Kimahri heads out getting past the gate before the nightwatch starts getting fussy about traffic. Taking the correct turn, Kimahri strolls along feeling a little bit better about his day. When he is almost to where he is going, he smells smoke and possibly a hint of charred flesh on the light evening breeze. The countryside around him seems quiet and peaceful...there is nobody else in sight. The ground is open with only a few sparse clumps of bushes for cover. I will post a map for this tomorrow morning...I am not at home right now and forgot to host it up before I left the house. The area is lightly rolling grassy hills with the odd clump of bushes and an occasional tree. There is a path which is really just a depression in the grass where it has been worn short by foot traffic leading to where you are going. Gretch is the last name of a person that reminds me of the kobold you are going to see. |
| Dr. Funk01-22-06, 05:54 PM | I was gonna wait for the map but whatever Kimahri will go to smoke. |
| MitzaVolchenko01-23-06, 02:55 AM | Kimahri approaches with caution, leaving the road and moving around the rises inthe land and behind what little cover there is to get as close as possible to the source of the smoke before being in plain sight. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v694/uninvitedtruth/koboldsorcerenclave2nddraft.jpg You are the gey-rock dot. You have partial concealment from the bushes you made it up to. The two red patches represent your foes. The closer one is an ogre armed with a great club and looking a little the worse for wear, though not nearly dead. The further one is an ogre armed with a composite long bow and a great club. It is just looking angry. In the doorway of the 'hobbit hole' is a tired looking kobold with a weasel at its feet. They both glow with magical light and is chanting, and the kobold is waving its little claws frantically...this would be Gretch. To either side of his doorway are the bodies of dead ogres...you count at least four, but from the charred areas (yellow) it is hard to tell if it is only four. These are fairly stock ogres. We can run this round by round here, or you can give me tactics based on the map and the base creature as listed in the MM. The nearer ogre is holding a potion bottle in his off hand, and it is your initiative. You can reach the nearer target easily (he is about 30' away and did not hear you move up as he is distracted by the battle with the kobold. The further ogre has an arrow nocked and obviously is takinghis time to aim. From the shouts betweent he tow ogres you can guess that hile they are angry, they are not berserked. |
| Dr. Funk01-23-06, 09:20 AM | I will move a little closer to the ogre (hopfully he dont see me) to see what else is around there |
| MitzaVolchenko01-23-06, 01:45 PM | Define what you are asking here. You have two ogres obviously attacking the kobold who is clearly a mage of some sort. You have very little cover other than what you are behind. The neighboring kobolds have decided that minding their own business is beneficial to their health. If you move any closer than that last 5' of cover you are going to face an autospot. |

| Dr. Funk01-23-06, 05:21 PM | ok move to the closer ogre and attack using the guisarme |
| MitzaVolchenko01-23-06, 09:08 PM | Round 1 Kimhari leaps forward and attacks the nearer ogre (23 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=343881)) dealing (13 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=343885)) points of damage. The second Ogre continues to aim. The near ogre forfeits his action as he was readying to charge the kobold when the arrow shot is made by the second ogre. Order of initiative: Gretch Kimahri Far Ogre Near Ogre Round 2 Gretch casts Mage Armor sharing the spell withhis familiar. Kimahri attacks again (15 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=343890)) missing. Far Ogre fires on Gretch (13 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=343892)) but misses. Near ogre attacks Kimahri (14 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=343895)) but misses. Round 3 Gretch takes a step back into his doorway to gain cover and casts shield from memory. Kimahri attacks near ogre (20 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=343897)) dealing (13 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=343899)) points of damage. Near ogre looks bad. Far Ogre moves to regain LOS on Gretch and fires again (15 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=343902)) but misses and drops his bow indisgust. Near Ogre attacks Kimahri (21 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=343904)) hitting for (13 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=343908)) points of damage. Round 4 Gretch draws and drinks a potion. Kimahri attacks near ogre (30 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=343916)) doing (17 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=343918)) points of damage and killing it (-10HP). Far Ogre roars and charges Gretch drawing his greatclub as he does so (24 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=343920)) and dealing (16 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=343923)) points of damage. Gretch falls to the ground unconscious. Round 5 Gretch stabilize check (96 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=343925)) does not stabilize. Kimahri moves up and attacks the remaining ogre (29 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=343929)) hitting for (15 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=343932)) points of damage as he rams the guisarme into its back, and instantly has its full attention. Far Ogre turns and swings on Kimahri (19 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=343935)) hitting for (15 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=343936)) and reducing Kimahri to 11 hit points. Round 6 Gretch stabilize check (62 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=343938)) doe snot stabilize. Weasel makes a flanking attack on the ogre (21 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=343940)) doing 1 point of damage and attaching itself to the ogre's arse. Kimahri attacks the ogre (27 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=343943)) doing (14 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=343946)) points of damage and reducing the ogre to 0 HP's. The ogre draws and drinks a potion of CLW and takes an AoO unable to withdraw into the mouth of the hole. AoO (31 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=343950)) and Kimahri confirms critical (25 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=343951)) smattering the ogre all over the grass (dmaage roll unecessary...that is one dead ogre). The ogre crashes to the ground shattering the potion bottle as he dies. *********** The ogres dead, Kimahri stands gasping and wounded for a moment then spies the kobold bleeding out in the doorway. The weasel lets go of the ogre's arse and mewls pitifully as it returns to its master's side. Kimahri draws one of his own potions of cure light wounds and hurries tot he kobold's side, pouring the healing draught down the small scaled mage's throat as the weasel dances from side to side mewling. I chose to use the potion as the quest ends if Gretch dies. You got very lucky with the miss by the near ogre on his first swing, but you have made it this far. Slowly Gretch revives and blinks up at you the smiles weakly, "Good timing, you've got there!" Climbing shakily to his feet, Gretch brushes himself off and walks over to the ogres kicking the bodies and methodically stripping them of anything valuable before pulling out a wand and drawing Kimahri back to safe distance before roasting them to ashes with a fireball. Dusting his hands off, he turns to Kimhari, "So what brings you out to Gretch's on a night like this?" It is now just past sunset. Kimahri is at 11 HP's and down one potion of CLW. |
| Dr. Funk01-24-06, 02:39 PM | I was told you can tell me where i could find a tan bag of tricks why do i have one potion left?? i have 8 in my character sheet |
| MitzaVolchenko01-25-06, 12:47 AM | "Bag o'tricks is it? Well I'd love to whip you one up and all but I'm no gods type person myself. Now if you don't mind hiking a wee bit, I cansend you to my cousin Gnosha...she isn't really a close cousin and wow does she have an attractive snout on her! She might be willing to set you up right and proper," Gretch pulls a palm sized gold disk imprinted with a sleeping dragon out of his pocket and hands it to you."You just take that there token a few hours hike over that hill and out onto the Mole Plains a little ways. I reckon Gnosha will find you if you make as much noise as most of you big folks do. Now mind you, make sure you show her that token right quick or she might just decide to make a Bag of tricks outta your skin. Tell her Gretch sends his best and will be along tomorrow night as promised." Down one *not* down to one. |
| Dr. Funk01-25-06, 05:36 PM | "Thank you Gretch, but before i go is there anything i should be worried about?" oh......and ill drink 2 potions down to 5 right |
| MitzaVolchenko01-25-06, 07:49 PM | Gretch watches you glug down the potions and shakes his head, "Not unless you count Gnosha." 17HP's restored putting you at 28 |
| Dr. Funk01-27-06, 06:54 AM | "alright i must be going now" sorry i was busy |
| MitzaVolchenko01-28-06, 02:05 AM | Kimahri walks for a bit and comes to a place that he can only presume is the Mole Plains. There is fairly flat grassland extending as far as he can see pockmarked with holes and odd upheavals in the ground precisely like a mole would make only much larger...the creature that would have made those holes and trails would be about the size of a human. |
| Dr. Funk01-28-06, 10:38 AM | kimahri will go to one of the holes and look in after he will continue on and be alert |
| Dr. Funk01-29-06, 02:05 PM | ...... |
| MitzaVolchenko01-29-06, 02:33 PM | Sorry...had amild case of food poisoning yesterday and hte compute did not want to join me in the cold bath tub The hole was clearly made by an animal. You can see small signs of claw markings from where it was dug. As Kimahri stands peering into the hole, a warning hiss comes from behind him. Whirling to see what hissed at him, he sees a kobold dressed in pale greens and golds that blend perfectly with the surrounding area standing next to a boar with a bow drawn on him. |
| MitzaVolchenko01-30-06, 01:11 AM | Kimahri swiftly holds up the golden disk at which point the kobld lowers the bow half a notch and demands to know what he wants. After a brief explanation, Gnosha's eyes narrow and she holds out her hand for the disk, "Helped Gretch, eh? Alright, I'll let you earn a chance at me considering giving you one of these," she holds up a tan bag of tricks. Kimahri turns the disk over to her and listens for what he must do. Gnosha explains that a pair of lions has gone mole and maneater. She says that they are resting a short distance away and if he will take care of them, she will look favorably on his request. Due to the shortened week and my illness I had to fast forward this a bit. Please post up tactics for handling two lions. You will encounter them resting by a small pool of water about 60' from the top of a slow rise that will offer Kimahri cover. The ground will be acceptable for charging and open in all directions (no cover once he crests the rise). |
| Dr. Funk01-30-06, 06:53 AM | ok kimahri will tap one of his tattoos of force screen and drink a potion. then move in and use the guisarme at the 10'ft reach and attack one of the loins (doesnt matter) if they both still up and i down to 10hp rage. they gonna have to move in to attack so i have armor spikes and i get a AoO so keep moving back and use guisarme. |

Gnosha stands at the top of the rise and claps softly, "Not bad. Not bad at all. Alright, you've earned the right to convince me of why you need a tan bag of tricks." I expected you to start that with the bow. The charge and lack of opportunity for the lions to use their rather nasty charging full attacks made for a short fight. You move on to week 3 which should be the real challenge as Kimahri is not truly suited to the third task ;) |
| Dr. Funk01-31-06, 01:31 PM | this next challenge may seem hard so drink 1 potion. Dr. Funk: "thats how you do it Kimahri" |
| MitzaVolchenko02-02-06, 02:37 AM | "You have my attention. I am Gnosha of the Mole Plains. You have served my race in aiding Gretch. You have served my domain in giving mercy to the lions. Tell me what service you offer to me to induce me to entrust you with a token of my faith and honor in granting you the item you seek?" Gnosha waits patiently as Kimahri considers how to answer her. What do you want me to offer is not a wise choice of answers. You can tell from the change of her demeanor to a serious and formal tone that she is judging your worth and worthiness by your answer. There is a certain feel of ritual to her words. |
| Dr. Funk02-03-06, 05:28 PM | "I will fight any creature, I will overcome any challenege, because if i want some thing i will do almost anything to get it." i hope nothing bad happeneds if i ansewred wrong because i had no clue how to respond |
| MitzaVolchenko02-04-06, 06:18 PM | Gnosha studies Kimahri for several very long moments, "Anything? Almost anything?" her soft voice carries with a long sibilant. She cocks her head and pokes her snout toward him raising her chin slightly, "Tell me where your lines are drawn, tall one." |
| Dr. Funk02-05-06, 11:11 AM | "If i have to kill it will be against someone doing bad" this is kinda confusing but whatever ill deal |
| MitzaVolchenko02-05-06, 11:34 PM | It is mean to be confusing. I always include a primarily rp encounter that is meant to test the character's convictions and resolve. For most characters that is the easy week...for Kimahri it is the chanciest and toughest as his social and mental attributes are next to nil. You can attempt a violent resolution if you wish and feel Kimahri would. "What is 'bad', tall one? Who decides? Would you take my word and kill whomever I say to kill?" |
| Dr. Funk02-06-06, 04:22 PM | "if some one is evil to the innocent is what i consider bad." Grrrrr.....lol |
| MitzaVolchenko02-07-06, 02:25 AM | "Innocence is an illusion.' Gnosha turns to walk away, unimpressed. Kimahri calls after her to wait (diplomacy check-1d20-2=10 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=357897) she remains indifferent but pauses). Kimahri explains that he has come so very far and shed much blood in the defense of her people and her Plains. He pleads a little angrily that it has to mean something to her. She regards him steadily a moment and then reaches into her bags of tricks and drops two animals which grows into a Tiger and a Heavy Warhorse. "There are the allies you truly wish for, covince them." Kimahri tries his best to bring the animals to bay peacefully (1d20=4 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=357902), 1d20=13 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=357903)) but fails. Kimahri realizes that the animals areno longer friendly and decides that he has a fight on his hands. Knowing hte tiger is the bigger threat, he charges it (1d20+13=15 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=357908)) and attempts to trip it up (1d20+6=22 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=357909)) vs. (1d20+6=13 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=357910)) successfully tripping it. The horse rears and charges attempting a trample Kim (1d20+6=20 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=357911)) vs Hor (1d20+6=17 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=357912)). Kimahri throws the horse back and prone. Panting, Kimahri calls out to Gnosha to stop this (1d20-2=7 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=357913) Diplomacy) but she just stands a bit away watching with interest. Kim comes to a halt in front of Gnosha still holding the tiger and glares down at her with frustration and pain and asks once again that she stop this and tell him what she wants of him (1d20=18 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=357938)-2CHA=16). Gnosha blinks up at him perplexed and then breaks into a slow grin, "I am not certain I have ever seen anyne take just that approach." She reaches out and opens the first bag. The tiger shrinks to a tiny ball of fur and rolls ut of Kimahri'sarms and into the lowered bag. gnosha reties the bag to her hip and then chuckling commands the horse to stand easy. [color=purple]"In the world there are few things as valuable as humor. Remember that, tall one. Among the things to be as valued is the willingness to leave that which simply lives at is made to live unharmed when possible. I speak not of the foolish city dwellers of course...but I suppose there may be innocence somewhere in that monstrous pit of noise and filth you dwell in....and perhaps that stands before me." Gnosha walks past Kimahri ignoring the confused, slack jawed expression on his face and moves to pat the horse on the nose and whsper to it before tying the second tan bag of tricks to its saddle bow and stepping into the closest mole hole followed closely by her boar. I decided to give you a fightingchance. The diplo checks were free actions and you had to avoid doing damage to the critters while you tried to survive and convince Gnosha. Honestly, I wouldn't quest Kimahri again solo unless the Questlord agrees in advance to make it an entirely hack and slash fest. You got very lucky with how soon you won that diplo hek and how badly the rolls went for the citters. |
