| Sindorin02-16-06, 03:18 PM | Uilo left the nimbusy confines of Gladius to visit an old druidic shrine and make sure that it had not been disrupted or desecrated. In many ways it was a pilgrimage since she tried her best to visit the keeper of the shrine, an old woman named Ezril who lived quietly at the shrine in the forests southeast of the city. About three hours into her trip she had a bad feeling, a feeling come from the pitch of the wind through the trees as she had begun trekking through a temperately forested area... Nature, in her unspoken language, it seemed, was trying to be subtle in warning Uilo of something... You may react however you wish, with buffs, whatever checks you want, etc. Just let me know what name you use if you make any die rolls. |
| Dracazar02-17-06, 05:31 PM | Uilo tries to Spot something in the brushes or Listen some steps. Also Uilo commands husk to guard her and also to sniff around... |
| Sindorin02-17-06, 06:33 PM | Ducking to peer through some of the underbrush, Uilo spies a clearing up ahead that there seems to be a darkness emanating from about 40 feet away. |
| Dracazar02-17-06, 06:40 PM | Uilo take up her Scimitar and commands Husk to search for track (scent). Great Ezril, I'm Uilo, I come from Gladius, you don't have to worry about me... |
| Sindorin02-17-06, 09:31 PM | Silence is given in reply. The cry of nature quiets, now aware of its observer. It seems to look on, wondering what is about to happen. Uilo creeps closer, nearly within the darkness but not out in the open of the clearing yet. She is not sure (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=367800) what is causing the darkness. She whistles quickly and sharply, and Husk knows what she wants him to do, however the dog is weary of approaching a darkness with an old woman within. Husk looks at Uilo ominously, and then creeps forward into the darkness... Surprise Round: "Welcome, Uilo... Ezril is busy at the moment, but you shall see her soon..." the old woman's voice cackles as she picks up her staff and stands up. She weaves a figure eight in the air with the head of her staff, and the air around her quivers as Uilo hears and identifies (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=367801) the curse of the Blindness spell. She feels the spell affect her, is unable to resist (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=367803) its effects, and becomes blinded. All that she hears is a cackling coming from where the darkness was, yet now all around her is dark. Initiative: Enemy - Enemy Initiative (1d20+1=14) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=367806) Uilo - Uilo Initiative (1d20+2=10) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=367808), blinded Round 1: "Welcome, my name is Pagolma, and this is my hallowed domain. Would you like to pay tribute and be on your way, or does serving me as one of my undead minions seem preferable to you?" The elderly voice has a taint to it that chills Uilo's spine as she looks on with blank eyes. She hears spellcasting, but does not identify (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=367810) what it is that Pagolma casts... Suddenly Husk thinks better (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=367813) of the situation, and takes off running (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=367814) the other way. "Good, now it is just you and me, young dear. I wouldn't want you to miss meeting my dear sister once again." Your turn. |
| Dracazar02-18-06, 05:44 AM | Pagolma, I must admit that your presentation is really nasty. I can't belive that Ezril was your sister. Uilo draws and drinks a Potion of Protection from Evil, still holding the scimitar. Uilo tries also to recall Husk (free) Don't think it would be so easy... Damn, blinded in round 0 of a 3 weeks quest is really hard. This also means no scrolls, right? |
| Sindorin02-18-06, 10:15 AM | You are correct, it does make things a bit difficult. Remember though that it really is not that difficult to rid yourself of the blindness AFTER the first encounter. All Uilo would have to do is go back to the nearest town and find an NPC cleric or wizard. It may cost gold but it would be better than having to deal with the Blindness. I was actually hoping that you would save against it, but what can I say, it makes for an interesting twist in the quest. One quick comment - in your PM you mentioned Dr. Funk's Bag of Tricks quest, so I made this quest EL5. Is this correct? I only say this because you are ECL4 and ECL5 enemies can get a bit tough. If it is EL4 I wouldn't have been able to hit you with Blindness but I don't know if you would have been able to quest for the Bag.Pagolma's laughter echoes throughout the darkness of the forest clearing. "Confident words of a dying woman. Quit deluding yourself," she taunts as Uilo drinks a potion that wards her from the taint that surrounds this part of the forest. Husk continues to run the other way, hesitating at his master's suddenly desperate call, he wishes he could return to defend his master but it is as if a magic force drives him away from the evil that is present. Pagolma speaks some words that Uilo quickly identifies (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=368145) as the spell Desecrate. The taint fills the area around her and chills her spine with an evil aura... Uilo, unable to see and training her ears, hears the evil Pagolma moving up ahead, and then the sickening sounds of the shuffling of dead, dry bones... |
| Sindorin02-20-06, 03:03 AM | ... |
| Dracazar02-20-06, 05:44 AM | Back (got a busy weekend). I thought it could be an ECL4 quest, but I checked rules and it seems that I could get that reward only with an ECL5 quest, so keep it as it is now. About the blindness, ok no problem, nice to hear about the cleric service. Now lets do this interesting match. You should know that Nature could see for me... Uilo confident about her protection potion is not worried about the desecrate. Uilo start summoning, she would summon an Hippogriff and command him to attack the necromancer. In the meantime Uilo still calls for Husk. |
| Sindorin02-20-06, 10:59 AM | Ah, very well then. We shall continue... Pagolma Spellcraft Check (1d20+??=28) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=369975) Pagolma seems to hesitate when Uilo begins summoning. Uilo hears her let her breath out, take in another, and then she casts a spell of a different kind, the incantation which Uilo Does not catch (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=370012), but Uilo does feel its effect rebound (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=370015) into her throat, but she resists its effects and continues the summoning chant. Her voice echoes through the dark clearing, and she clearly hears Pagolma curse and then footsteps are heard moving away... "How dare you interrupt my ritual? Very well... you have forced me to finish it with you as my only witness... and you are blind." A funny sound is heard, it is as if two tiny things slam into something that is moist and spongy. |
| Dracazar02-20-06, 11:36 AM | Uilo wield her Scimitar and ready to attack anything that comes in melee. For next 4 round while the summons is on material plane she do little moves towards noise and commands Husk to attack Pagolma. You can do this 4 round in a row, stop only if Uilo or Husk got wounded |
| Sindorin02-20-06, 01:47 PM | Round 4: Pagolma speaks an incantation as she shoves something else down into the mud, making yet another sickening slapping sound. More sounds follow, and Uilo Does not identify (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=370106) the spell that Pagolma now casts... A moaning sound is heard from the ground where Pagolma is kneeling, though Uilo cannot fathom the monstrosity that Pagolma has created. "Rise, my servant... rise, my fallen brother... rise, Armasio..." The moaning sound is warped as it travels through the darkness of her soul's emanations as well as the Desecration placed upon the area. Uilo cannot see because of her blindness, so she takes in a deep breath of tainted air, nearly gagging. She holds her sword at arm's length forward, gauging the wind of the swirling cloud of dark energy permeating the area. "This clearing was the site of a battle four years ago. Your instincts may tell you that this was during the Year of Hell in Gladius. The warriors that will follow my dear fallen brother will be an army that will serve me to destroy this forest and pave the way for the coming of the one! If I were you I would turn back and flee, for you may spare at least some from The Eviscerated Lamb," Pagolma raves. Uilo can hear Husk calling about 120 feet away. He would be back to aid Uilo soon... Uilo finished the incantation that Pagolma tried in vain to disrupt, and a hippogriff appears standing in front of Pagolma. It uses a claw to attack Pagolma, but its claw only scratches Pagolma's cloak, barely missing (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=371093) the evil cleric's torso. Still, Pagolma's raving has stopped for the moment so that she can deal with this 'problem'. Round 5: Pagolma's next spell for Uilo, Spiritual Weapon, (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=370212) is easily identified by the flying scythe glowing with dark energy that appears in front of Uilo - she can see this even through her blindness, the extent of the evident taint in Pagolma's evil magic. The scythe slashes (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=370214) at the blind Uilo, unable to get through her armor. (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=370219) Something is heard moving toward Uilo, stopping right next to her... a moaning sound is heard... The hippogriff screams angrily as it misses (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=371095) hitting Pagolma once again. Uilo: 29/29 hp - Husk (in next round) - Hippogriff (round 2/4) Pagolma: ??/?? -Armasio: ??/?? |
| Dracazar02-21-06, 04:48 AM | Uilo does not attack the Spiritual Weapon, she now that could do nothing with that. The only chance would be to move away from the cleric's range, but this would be difficult. Uilo orders Husk to charge the cleric and trip him. Also she move away (in the opposite direction) from the dancing weapon (at best she can in her situation). If this creature called Armasio come in melee Uilo is ready to attack him and use her blind fight training. Also Uilo encourage the Hippogriff. I would like to point that you hit AC 15 with the dancing weapon, Uilo's AC is 17 even if blinded |
| Sindorin02-21-06, 03:18 PM | Okay, I edited some of the errors such as forgetting you summoned a hippogriff and your blind fight making your AC high enough for the hit to miss. Let me know if I forget to give you anything else. "YOU WILL FLEE," the old woman screams (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=371098) as the hippogriff slashes at her armor with the same result as the first attack. A shuffling of footsteps is heard as she braces to fend another attack from the hippogriff. Something moans and tries to grab (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=371099) Uilo, but misses completely, and she hears a stumbling sound as her training helps her to easily dodge the zombie. Uilo is read for this as her scimitar slashes (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=371104) into the zombie, spraying herself with green and red goo, (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=371108) and the zombie moans painfully, as if there were non-painful-sounding moans. Husk returns and bites (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=371103) at the zombie, and there is a sickening noise as the zombie evidently dodges it... somehow... Uilo hears and feels a *whoosh* overhead as something large flies over her from Pagolma's direction... Uilo: 29/29, blinded -Husk: 26/26 -Hippogriff: 25/25 Fleeing for one round (3/4) Pagolma: ??/?? -Armesio: ??-7/?? Husk is back now, the griffon will flee for one round under the Command spell but then it will be back next round. Uilo knows the zombie is next to her and Husk is flanking it. Hippogriff is finished after it acts next round. |
| Dracazar02-22-06, 05:49 AM | I would like to point also that Uilo is under the effect of Protection from Evil, so I think that the zombie could not touch Uilo, only Good summoned creatures are immune to this effect (please verify this). Also Uilo commands Husk to attack the humanoid cleric not the zombie. Now if Uilo is "warded" she will not attack the zombie. She will reply to an attack only if she got attacked first (and the zombie should not be able to start the melee). I don't know if PfEvil wards also against an evil spiritual weapon (we can ask in tavern). Apart of this, in next rounds Hippogriff and Husk should attack Pagolma. Uilo is in delay action and slowly move towards combat noises. |
| Sindorin02-22-06, 09:22 AM | The zombie was not summoned, it was animated. I had Husk attack the zombie because of the defend trick. Either way yes, the zombie can attack her though she does have good buffs against him (+2 AC, blind fight, etc.) |
| Dracazar02-22-06, 12:21 PM | Uilo attacks the zombie with the scimitar and slowly (5' or move action) moves towards Palomba's voice. Husk attacks Palomba (and trip) Hippogriff attacks Palomba |
| Sindorin02-22-06, 05:27 PM | Pagolma's breaths seem faster, more desperate. The old woman is becoming tired, exhausted, as she may have slowed Uilo down, but the druid was showing remarkable fortitude in resisting all of Pagolma's attempts since being caught by the blindness, which turned out to be having little effect. I have but one trick left... Pagolma screamed one last incantation that is in a language that makes Uilo's skin crawl, a peculiar feeling that distracts her and she does not identify the spell (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=371886). The effects whoosh through the darkness of the clearing towards her, and Uilo struggles as much as she can, but she is overtaken (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=371896) by Pagolma's holding spell, her body frozen... somehow? The zombie, unable to properly dispatch Uilo the way Pagolma would like, hits her harmlessly (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=371903) on the shoulder. Husk moves to attack Pagolma where she stands distorted in the darkness. He grabs her leg and attempts to trip her, Pagolma swings her scythe down at the crocodile but can do nothing against Husk's natural armor. Husk manages to find her, (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=371922), managing to clamp his jaws (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=371926), attempting to upend the old woman who fails (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=371945) to stay on her feet. She flies one way, and one of her legs is now a bloody stump just below the knee, the other end stuck between Husk's teeth. The hippogriff's time is short as it flies overhead toward Pagolma and completely misses (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=371933) her with its claws... it then disappears, returning to the plane from which it was summoned. Uilo attempts to break the spell and shrugs (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=371950) the spell off easily. Pagolma: ??-19/?? prone -Armesio: ??-7/?? Uilo: 29/29, blinded -Husk: 26/26 |
| Dracazar02-22-06, 06:02 PM | About the trip. If you crit with the base attack you still do double damage, even if tripping. It only says that: A wolf that hits with a bite attack can attempt to trip the opponent (+1 check modifier) as a free action without making a touch attack or provoking an attack of opportunity. If the attempt fails, the opponent cannot react to trip the wolf. You should subtract some damage to Pagolma. Poor foolish necromancer, you understimated the power of the nature! Uilo move slowly towards Pagolma while defending from the Zombie. Husk continue to bite the prone cleric. Feel free to continue until Uilo or Husk got damaged. |
| Sindorin02-22-06, 06:25 PM | Oh, heh. Good call, and it is a good thing that I rolled up damage for it all already. It is also a good thing that zombies cannot deliver Coup de Graces because you would be in trouble then :) Pagolma is whimpering on the ground, the crododile munching on the lower part of her leg that is no longer part of her. "Very well... I accept this death, sweet and kind," Pagolma says as she ends her life using her scythe. The zombie hits (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=371999) Uilo, hurting her a bit (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=372000). Husk spits out the leg, turns, and goes straight for the zombie, but misses. (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=372001) Uilo attacks the zombie again with her scimitar, but misses the zombie (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=372002) Pagolma: dead -Armesio: ??-7/?? Uilo: 20/29 -Husk You can easily just leave the encounter now - he was a monk in real life and can dodge your attacks easily, plus he has been animated so he is part of the cleric's exp share, which you killed, so there really isn't a point in getting beat up by the zombie monk. He can't chase you easily... |
| Dracazar02-25-06, 09:46 AM | Ok go ahead, we should try to go faster this week. It would be very good if we can pack next 2 encounters in 1 week so Uilo could recover the lost 1st week. I'll be online very much this week. Thanks |
| Sindorin02-25-06, 11:54 AM | Okay... so what does Uilo do next? |
| Dracazar02-26-06, 11:41 AM | Uilo would like to be cured for her blindness. So, if possible, she need a cleric service. Husk can help her walking. Also I would like to know If Uilo can level up now or must wait, with this xp reward this should be enough to level up. |
| Sindorin02-26-06, 01:25 PM | Uilo is led by Husk back to the town that she had set out from into the forest. She remembered that there had been a kind healer there who possibly could cure her of her blindness. As they approached his house, Husk saw (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=375152) a figure standing in the shadows next to the building that the healer lived in. He was in a sneaking posture, and he was below one of the windows of the dwelling, looking as if he was preparing something... the window had been slightly opened. |
| Dracazar02-26-06, 02:03 PM | Dear healer, I'm in need of your help. My eyes can't see anymore. An evil will did this and now it is repented of the action. May you cure me? |
| Sindorin02-27-06, 01:23 AM | Simply ignoring the suspicious person outside of the healer's home, Husk leads Uilo into the man's home so she can ask about healing for her blindness. "Why, hello, druid," the man began, "I would be happy to heal you, but it will cost you a fee." He gives a kind look at Husk who has led him a customer. There was a bit of a typo in my last post... the spot check was Husk's, not Uilo's. In terms of levelling, I don't think that is allowed because you are awarded your quest reward together for all three encounters at the end of your quest. Sorry. |
| Dracazar02-27-06, 03:19 AM | I'll be glad to donate a fee to your church. Husk is wonderful dog, not a crocodile! After the healer cure the blindness, Uilo "speaks" with Husk, why are you perturbed dear companion? You would like show me something? Ok, I'll level up after the quest |
| Sindorin02-27-06, 09:21 AM | What?! I could have SWORN you had a croc companion... my mistake. The healer crushes some yellow wax in a bowl and heats it up. He then applies it to Uilo's eyes, says a prayer to some deity, and the pupils return to Uilo's eyes. "There you are, lass, all better. Me fee will be one hundred fifty gold." Husk speaks back in the sacred language shared between only a druid and her companion. "There is someone outside the window." |
| Dracazar02-27-06, 09:42 AM | Oh, my eyes can see again the colors of the Nature, thank you brave cleric, here is my offer for your church. Uilo gives him 150 gp. My dear healer, did you noticed the man outside the window?. In the meantime, Uilo caresses Husk. |
| Sindorin02-27-06, 09:58 AM | "Man outside my window... what are you talking about," the cleric says as he looks towards the open window. From the look on his face, he doesn't see anything. "I am sorry lady druid, but I do not know what you are talking about," the cleric continues with a nervous look on his face. In a hushed tone he tries to say under his breath "I have received threats from assassins in these parts. I have no way of contacting them to appease them, and all prayers I have made regarding them have gone unanswered. If what you say is true, that there is a man outside my window, perhaps he is spying on me... or perhaps he has come for me... in any case, I hope that your slight association with me does not bring you trouble, fair druid." As he says this he is sorting through a cabinet of his possessions. He procures a short sword and looks warily at the open window and at his front door. "If you don't want them after you then I would suggest you leave," he says after he receives payment for his troubles. |
| Dracazar02-27-06, 10:08 AM | Uilo thinks: Why someone would kill a brave healer? And how this could happen inside the city? She salutes the cleric and exits. While outside Uilo give a better look in the area to spot something strange. Then Uilo allows Husk to sniff around the scent of the man near the window. Uilo moves from the building and goes some feet away (about 60'). She would like to observe the healer entrance for some minutes (about 30) and notice who enters. Also Uilo instruct Husk to bark (quite) if he spots or smells that man. |
| Sindorin02-27-06, 11:48 AM | Uilo leaves as the man suggests, but lingers in the area to watch to see what happens. Sure enough, the man turns off his light and goes to sleep, and Uilo spies something go through the window... |
| Dracazar02-27-06, 12:21 PM | Uilo approachs with her Trackless Step towards the window, Husk near her and tracks the scent... |
| Sindorin02-27-06, 01:13 PM | Uilo approaches the window, but all is dark inside and she cannot see anything. Husk is near her and can smell the scent that was sitting here next to the window while Uilo was being healed. "It is a goblin," Husk says to his master in their exclusive tongue. Uilo peers (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=375782) through the window and into the darkness, but does not see anything. She figures that the enemy might be low to the ground if Husk is correct. |
| Dracazar02-27-06, 01:29 PM | Go Husk, trip him! I'll block this exit. Uilo readies to slash any incoming goblin while Husk goes inside... |

| Sindorin02-27-06, 01:44 PM | When Husk goes through the doorway, Uilo clearly hears a goblin voice yell "YeeOWCH!!!" as there is a mechanical TWANG sound. The light inside turns on, the cleric is heard yelling, and there is a lot of racket as Husk growls at the goblin who has shot himself in the foot with a crossbow that is now on the floor (you can see for yourself in the rolls). "I give up! Here are your things! I only needed medicine for my children, you didn't have to sick your bloodhound on me," a frantic goblin screams, painfully clutching his foot on the floor, as Uilo does now see since the light is on. The cleric is lying in bed holding a lantern that he has lit, with a bewildered expression on his face. The goblin pulls a couple potions out of his pockets and sets them on the table, but is not able to get out of the house since Husk blocks the door and Uilo blocks the window. "sigh..." |
| Dracazar02-27-06, 03:09 PM | And you steal potions from this brave healer? Uilo command Husk to stop biting and to come near her... |
| Sindorin02-27-06, 04:07 PM | "Well, yes... but you must understand that this man will not trade with me because I am goblin. There are no healers with our means except for him," he says, pointing at the healer who is scrambling to put on his robe. "He will not deal wtih our race. He holds his potions and the favor of his god and keeps it for himself, he is selfish in his ways and should be punished!" The goblin is trying his best to nurse the wound that he has clumsily caused to himself, and the cleric that previously healed Uilo is looking down at the goblin with a disgusted look on his face, but he does not say anything in response to the goblin's accusations. |
| Dracazar02-27-06, 04:40 PM | You must accept his decision and theft is not a good solution. The healer may have his reason to refuse healing. What is the problem of your son? |
| Sindorin02-27-06, 06:12 PM | "But... but... that is discrimination! My son is blind very much the way you were when you came here, and he has a disease that is destroying his muscles. And look, he healed you! But he won't even look at my son! I have the money to pay him! I do! But his mind is set and he will not compromise, so I have to steal so my son does not die! Go on, be ignorant to the ways of other races and other cultures. Your karma will even the score... mark my words..." and with that, the goblin makes to hobble out of the house that he has intruded into, spitting on the floor. |
| Dracazar02-27-06, 06:55 PM | Uilo to the healer: Why you don't heal the goblin's son? |
| Sindorin02-28-06, 01:38 AM | The cleric scoffs at Uilo's words, as if helping a lowly goblin is unheard of. "I have enough to deal with as things are. I simply do not wish to exert my Lord's power on a greenskin." |
| Dracazar02-28-06, 04:23 AM | You talked about some menaces from a guild, this goblin is involved in these threats? If not, I think the you should heal his son. He is diseased, and your Lord would not bless you if you let him die. Come with me, I'll escort you to the goblin's house and help with the healing |
| Sindorin02-28-06, 09:55 AM | The cleric sighs and says "Very welll... I guess you are right. The threats that were sent to me weren't sent by goblins, I can tell you that much. Let's get going because I am tired." Uilo leads the cleric following the goblin down a shoddy path away from the village to a group of huts. The goblin seems to do pretty well at getting around even with his wounded foot. The four of them arrive at one of the huts that has a crude sign in front of it that reads Ringol the Finder on it. The goblin that they are following goes inside, telling them "Wait here a moment." There are voices heard, and two goblins emerge, Ringol and what appears to be his wife. She is shorter than Ringol and looks like she cries a lot. "Please help him, sir," says Ringol. All his wife does is sob, she will not even look at the cleric. The cleric seems to roll his eyes at the heavens and stoops down low to go inside the tent, and the parents follow after, but not after the wife gives Uilo and her dog a funny look. Uilo and Husk wait patiently until the cleric emerges, followed by Ringol. "See, I knew he had it in him, it only took a little prodding, hehehe!" Obviously happy, he darts back into the goblin-sized hut. "I guess not all goblins are bad, evil, and warmongering," the cleric says as he stares at the ground. "I had always read of the terrible things they would do if they were unchecked. Ah well..." he says as he walks off to head back up the trail towards his home so he can sleep. As Uilo watches him go, thankful that she was at least able to regain her sign, she hears footsteps below her. She looks down and sees a blue goblin with a staff looking up at her. "Hello up there?" |
| Dracazar02-28-06, 01:08 PM | Hello to you, we know eachother? We just exiting from Ringol's house, I lead here the cleric to help his son... |
| Sindorin02-28-06, 03:04 PM | The wise blue goblin's face lights up when Uilo responds to him. "Yes, thank you so much for convincing old Ramsen to see down broader tunnel. Your determination in hearing both sides of the stories was commendable. I wonder if I might as a favor of you? There is a great treasure to be found if you hear what I have to say, it involves animals trapped in extradimensional space..." He looks up at Uilo, eyes blinking patiently. |
| Dracazar02-28-06, 04:08 PM | animals trapped in extradimensional space? I'm very interested, please tell me... |
| Sindorin02-28-06, 06:37 PM | "Please, it is not safe here. Come with me." The little blue goblin hobbles into the hut at the apex of thew circle - obviously meaning he is the goblins leader. "There is an abomination among the fey of the forest. Pagolma had a son. Yes, you recognize this name... interesting... Pagolma's son is not human. His biorhythm I sensed has a trace of fey..." the blue goblin trails off, as if he is not sure what to think of the story he tells. "He is a being of great evil, he has a sack that he uses to capture unsuspecting wildlife and keep them to increase his power. Not only does he possess such a cursed but perhaps useful item, but it has been impossible to locate this creature. He is here then gone, to there and before you know it, he has went. We do not know where he can be found, but perhaps since you have killed his mother recently, maybe he will be out for blood against his mother's killer? My only wish for you is this: go to where you fought with Pagolma and defeated her. Defeat this menace, who troubles my heart and the hearts of all my goblin brethren, for yes, the young boy that was cured tonight was indeed ill because of the taint that the abomination aurates upon this land. It must be cleansed for nature's sake!" |
| Dracazar02-28-06, 07:19 PM | The Nature's balance should be re-estabilished. With the help of Husk, Uilo goes where Pagolma died. |
| Sindorin02-28-06, 08:49 PM | As Uilo approaches the clearing where quite an epic battle took place, she can sense that, if anything, the taint on the area has deepened to a nearly unbearable sodomy of the natural environment. Surely this is the place where the illnesses that the goblins had experienced had originated. "You... why have you come back here," a voice addresses Uilo, but it is difficult to tell from where... almost as if it is in her mind. It sounds troubled and sad, mournful as any who have ever lost their mother... |
| Dracazar03-01-06, 03:06 AM | Uilo draw and cast a scroll of Barkskin. I'm here because you are a menace for this forest, you capture wildlife and contaminate people with disease. Husk attacks anyone who approachs. |
| Sindorin03-01-06, 10:33 AM | Uilo casts the Barkskin scroll to improve her defenses. As Uilo states her business she is bombarded with arrows. Even with her slightly enhanced natural armor one of the arrows manages to pierce her side and cause a surprising amount of pain. Uilo does not see where the arrows came from, but Husk alerts her that there is an invisible creature up in the trees shooting down at them. Uilo 23/29 Enemy Attacks (1d20+10=17, 1d20+10=22) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=377568) vs. AC 19, one misses, one hits, damage (1d6=6) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=377569) Uilo Spot (1d20+10=11) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=377570), Husk Spot (1d20+6=26) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=377572) Enemy Initiative (1d20+??=14) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=377566) Uilo Initiative (1d20+2=19) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=377567) Uilo acts first. |
| Dracazar03-01-06, 10:57 AM | Uilo draw and cast a scroll of Cat's Grace, this arrows are dangeorous, better be safe. Uilo commands Husk to engage the foe in melee and trip him. (free action) Uilo then follows Husk movement confiding in her blind fight ability. Uilo will attacks with her scimitar (+6) if Husk is in melee or with her Crossbow (+5+2(Cat) if nobody is in melee. |
| Sindorin03-01-06, 07:03 PM | Round 1: "Hah, you think that a silly dog is going to be able to catch me?" the voice from above calls to Uilo and Husk down below. It fires two more arrows that both miss. Neither Uilo nor Husk can see where the arrows came from because the enemy is an adept sniper... Uilo Spot (1d20+10=11) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=377906) Husk Spot (1d20+6=9) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=377907) |
| Dracazar03-01-06, 07:23 PM | Uilo and Husk both double moves towards the arrows direction and try to spot the sniper. Uilo AC should be now 21 |
| Sindorin03-01-06, 09:02 PM | Round 2: Uilo moves forward trying her best to spot the unseen enemy, but she cannot see him from her new position. The enemy snipes at Uilo and the arrow hits her cleanly in the neck, causing great pain to the druid... and to add to the injury she does not spot where the invisible sniper is... The lords of the High Forest SHALL FOREVER TREMBLE!!!" |
| Dracazar03-02-06, 04:09 AM | Uilo commands Husk to continue attack this damned sniper. Uilo draws her wand of cure light wounds and use it. Sniping: If you’ve already successfully hidden at least 10 feet from your target, you can make one ranged attack, then immediately hide again. You take a –20 penalty on your Hide check to conceal yourself after the shot. In the buff please add Barkskin. Corrux, you are only an insect in front of the power of Nature |
| Sindorin03-02-06, 09:26 AM | He is taking the -20 penalty to re-hide after he is shooting. Round 3: Uilo pulls out a wand and heals herself for 4 hit points. (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=378251) Corrux Attack (1d20+12=24) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=378252) hits, Damage (1d6=3) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=378254) Uilo&Husk Spot (1d20+10=28, 1d20+6=23) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=378255) vs. Corrux Hide (1d20+14=21) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=378256) Uilo and Husk both see a faint glimmer above where the latest arrow comes from. He is 10 feet above them in a tree. Uilo: 16/29 Barkskin, Cat's Grace -Husk: Corrux: ??/??, Invisible |
| Dracazar03-02-06, 10:17 AM | Husk should be able to start attack after the previous spot check Uilo draw and cast a scroll of faerie fire upon the location of Corrux Husk attacks and tries to trip Corrux |
| Sindorin03-02-06, 05:22 PM | I'm not really sure how Husk expects to trip Corrux when he is both invisible and flying, and hidden... Round 4: Uilo casts Faerie Fire at the location where she saw the arrow come from, but surprisingly the evil pixie has moved to obscure his location! "Nice try! You almost got me, hahahaha!!! Try these on for size!" The next thing Uilo knows is that vines are sprouting up everywhere, but Uilo is able to avoid them even though they are still impeding her movement. Husk also dodges the vines as they try to grab the dog. Uilo hears the casting being made from next to where her faerie fire spell went off. Uilo can't tell where he goes next... Uilo Reflex Save (1d20+5=21) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=378568) Husk Reflex Save (1d20+6=25) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=378569), Uilo Spot (1d20+10=19) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=378571) |
| Dracazar03-03-06, 12:14 PM | Sorry I didn't understood that Corrux was flying The spell casted was Entangle? After the spell Corrux is still invisible? Uilo run out from the entangle area, same for Husk. I think you are not so smart if you think that the nature could hurt me... If able Uilo use another wand's charge after exiting from entangle area. |
| Sindorin03-03-06, 01:31 PM | My bad, I should have made it more clear where he was, but I didn't want to give up too much because he was sniping. He remains invisible after his attack. Uilo ran as hard as she could, the vines scraping and lashing her, and made it out of the entangle spell that the evil pixie had used. Nature, it seemed, could be unbalanced! Corrux was a pixie of a different kind. The vines that he had summoned were dark, full of corruption and evil. Uilo stopped once she was away from the entangled area, but didn't have enough time to use her wand again before she was shot at by Corrux. The arrow grazed her shouler enough to mark her in a light red. Rehide (1d20+34=40) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=379339) Attack (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=379337) Damage (1d6=1) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=379338) Uilo: 15/29 Uilo and Husk are now out of the Entangle Area. They cannot see where Corrux currently is, but they can guess that he is flying somewhere above them. They also figure that he has some means of greater invisibility, which could only mean one thing. Corrux is an evil Pixie... |
| Dracazar03-03-06, 02:16 PM | Are you sure Corrux is a pixie? It seems much stronger than a pixie for damage and attack. Uilo looks around if she is able to spot a cavern or something where to bring Corrux. She ha no chance if Corrux fly all the time, she will not be his pincushion. While doing so Uilo cure a bit with a wand touch. |
| Dracazar03-05-06, 04:50 AM | Any news? I hope we can complete the quest soon |
| Sindorin03-06-06, 01:14 AM | Yes, sorry, I was away over the weekend and did not have a chance to warn or update. Uilo moves off looking for a cave or some other sort of location where she might trap Corrux away from the world and subdue him. As she does this, he is not able to snipe at her as she fires since he must follow. Uilo spies a small cave about 100 feet away at the base of a hill even as she is shot at by the evil pixie during the thirty seconds that it takes for her to search. Corrux Attack (1d20+12=16) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=381049) misses, Corrux Attack (1d20+12=31) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=381050) hits, Corrux Attack (1d20+12=22) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=381051) hits, Corrux Attack (1d20+12=28) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=381052) hits, Corrux Attack (1d20+12=30) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=381054) hits, Damage while looking for cave (4d6=8) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=381060) Uilo cures twice while searching, Uilo curing while searching (2d8+2=13) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=381061) Uilo: 20/29 Uilo has found a cave, now what does she do? |
| Dracazar03-06-06, 05:00 AM | Uilo and Husk enters the cave for 30' (or more) and Uilo cast Produce Flame (to gain also some light). Uilo move in a position that doesn't grant Los from outside so Corrux must enters depp in the cavern to finish Uilo. Then Uilo try to attack with the flames (melee or ranged). Husk is commanded to ward the entrance and grapple (trip) the pixie is he try to exit. If only 1 shot is left for Uilo (this means that 2 shot were off), Uilo should try again faerie fire. |
| Sindorin03-06-06, 06:59 AM | Uilo goes into the cave about 10 yards and casts Produce Flame. The entrance to the cave is about 7 feet high, enough for a medium creature to get in upright. She commands Husk to get near the entrance in case the pixie tries to sneak in... Husk creeped along the edges of the entrance, hoping the pixie either hadn't followed them, or it would not see him. He neared the entrance and readied to bring the pixie down if it came through... but how would he know if Corrux did come through? Hmm. Suddenly an arrow exploded right next to Husk's head, and the dog looked up but he could not see where Corrux was. The pixie was sniping from the outside... |
| Dracazar03-06-06, 10:53 AM | Uilo commands Husk to enter and go near her. In the meantime Uilo heals a bit. You will not kill me Corrux and you will never avenge the dead of Pagolma, I'll heal here from your stupid arrows. Doing so Uilo hope to vex Corrux (diplomacy?) and bring him inside. Uilo ready to use the flame upon the pixie. Uilo asks Husk to track the pixie with scent. |
| Sindorin03-06-06, 10:59 AM | There is silence from outside the cave, as perhaps Corrux is pondering Uilo's words. "Very well, then. Know that you are spared only because I am tired of this little game. To the victor go the spoils," he says as a small object is thrown to the ground outside of the cave entrance from who-knows-where. "Until we meet again." |
| Dracazar03-06-06, 11:18 AM | Uilo goes to see what is the object |
| Sindorin03-06-06, 11:27 AM | Uilo steps out into the light from the darkness of the cave. On the ground appears to be a yellow disc that looks like this: http://www.everyoneisdifferent.com/img/wall-smiley.bmp "Gotcha." Uilo is then barraged by arrows!!! Corrux Ambush! (1d20+10=24, 1d20+10=24) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=381283) Damage! (1d6+1=7, 1d6+1=7) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=381284) Both arrows hit her in the side as she sees the glimmer of the invisible monster that is Twilight Oblivion snicker and then disappear once more about 30 feet away directly left of the cave entrance. Uilo: 6/29, Barkskin, Cat's Grace |
| Dracazar03-06-06, 11:36 AM | You should check that: - in previous round "Uilo heals a bit" (magic wand) - this pixie has str bonus instead of str malus? - 2 arrows and also move action? Uilo enters again in the cave and heals again |
| Sindorin03-06-06, 01:49 PM | -You did heal a bit, back up to 20 during your search... -Corrux has a +1 str bonus that I had forgotten to calculate in his first few hits on you, so your hp could be lower and you could be down but I am being nice. -There was a full round action but no move action in the last round. Uilo scrambles back into the cave, feeling stupid that the tricky pixie has decieved her. "You come back out whenever you are ready, hairy lady. I have plenty of arrows!" Uilo touches the wand to her side where the arrows have broken off, healing herself a bit. Cure Light Wounds (1d8+1=4) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=381396) A beating of wings can be heard as Corrux flies to the front of the cave to take a pot shot, but his arrow misses in his hurry to do so. Uilo wheels around, and is aware of the pixie's presence right before it darts out of sight from her position. Uilo: 10/29 Barkskin, Cat's Grace |
| Dracazar03-06-06, 03:15 PM | Uilo cures two more times and use move action to try to spot/listen the pixie to pinpoint the location, Husk waits while Uilo cures then continue to track (pinpoint) Corrux using scent. |
| Sindorin03-07-06, 12:43 PM | Uilo, now thinking that she is "safe" in the cave, cures herself with the wand. She does not feel much vitalized from this charge of her wand because she is distracted, wondering what the heck Corrux is doing out there. She goes ahead and taps herself again with the wand, this time feeling much better for it. While she heals this second time, a small laugh is heard as two arrows come flying through the entrance of the cave. One completely misses Uilo, and another almost gets through her defenses but clatters to the floor. Uilo can't tell exactly, but she can sense that there is something invisible at the entrance to the cave - perhaps it is Corrux? Uilo Cure Light Wounds (2d8+2=11) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=382118) Uilo Spot Check (1d20+10=23) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=382128) Uilo: 21/29 Barkskin, Cat's Grace |
| Dracazar03-08-06, 05:07 AM | Uilo tri to attach with a flame bolt to the entrance of the cave, she has only 3 of this bolt, but with a successfull hit could kill this damned pixie. The pixie is undetectable with the track+scent of Husk? |
| Sindorin03-08-06, 10:02 AM | I noted that the pixie was at the front of the cave - at the time it didn't seem necessary to use scent if Uilo knows he is there. I would have casted the faerie fire then instead of earlier... Uilo, seeing this her only chance thus far to harm the pixie, throws a flame bolt that had been waiting in her hand at the suspecting pixie. It is on the mark as she hears a small yelp, but the bolt explodes in some bushes, catching fire to a small part of the forest outside the cave's entrance. "You call yourself a druid yet you have no regard for the forest itself? How imprudent..." Two more arrows fly from the cave entrance, one hits Uilo in the leg painfully. Uilo can't see that the invisible creature is still there, but the scent tells Husk otherwise. "He is likely still near the entrance to the side, master," Husk quickly barked to Uilo. There is a slight wind coming from inside the cave that is somewhat disrupting Husk's scent. He can't seem to track the pixie right now because he and Uilo are more than 15 ft. inside the cave. Miss Chance (1d100=72) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=382837) Ranged Touch (1d20+5=18) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=382839) misses (just barely) Corrux Attack (1d20+10=28) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=382844) hits, Corrux Attack (1d20+10=11) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=382845) fumbles, Damage (1d6+2=6) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=382847) Uilo: 15/29 |
| Dracazar03-08-06, 10:46 AM | I think it is not so useful faerie fire because even if Uilo hit the pixie, he could fly away for 10 rounds and wait that the faerie fire effect goes off. This is the reason that Uilo try to bring him inside the cave, but the attempt was unsuccessful and also did the opposed effect to be mocked by the pixe. Uilo is quite weary of this fight, she decides to try another tactic: Uilo goes inside the cave to get cover, while in secure location she summons nature ally near cave entrance. She would like to summon a dire bat that should have no problem with the invisibility with the blindsense. Even if the bat cannot harm the pixie (so the pixie should not be worried) it would allow Uilo to pinpoint the pixie. Doing so Uilo has two more fire bolt to use. Uilo also commands Husk to attack where the bat attack and where the track+scent point the location of the bat. |
| Sindorin03-08-06, 10:56 AM | I'm sorry he mocked you, I have to play an evil pixie the way it should be played :) Uilo goes further back in the cave and finds a suitable rock to gain cover from. She is nearly 50 feet from the cave entrance. She begins summoning a Dire Bat near the cave's entrance. Husk is frustrated that the wind is going the wrong way. He prepares to assist the dire bat that he hears his master chanting for. Two arrows fly from near the entrance toward the dog Corrux Attack (1d20+10=28) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=382896) hits Corrux Attack (1d20+10=12) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=382897) miss One of the arrows pierces the dog's tough defenses and hurts badly. "You even send your animal to do your work for you... this is sad, you know." Husk believes that Corrux is to the right of the cave entrance poking out to shoot. He may even have had direct LoS to Husk but one can't be too sure that the pixie would have remained there. |
| Dracazar03-08-06, 11:49 AM | Corrux you made me angry and this would be your fatal mistake, attack me if you are able not my companion. It is plain that your fear me. Uilo completes the summoning and is ready for the massive attack: Flame bolt, Dire Bat, Husk trip. Husk hp? |
| Dracazar03-08-06, 12:55 PM | Sindorin I have to exit for some hours, please go on with the quest. If there are big trouble stop and wait me, otherwise try to go on alone with the tactic. I hope to be able to edit the sheet before the deadline. Thanks |
| Sindorin03-08-06, 03:15 PM | Yeah sorry I didn't put the damage roll in there earlier, i was in a hurry to get to class because time snuck away from me. I'm not quite sure that you will be able to edit before the deadline simply because you have yet to hit him with anything and it may be quite a long fight still... we'll see what happens. Damage (1d6+2=8) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=382899) Husk HP: 18/26 Uilo HP: 15/29 The evil pixie's laughter echoes throughout the cave in response to Uilo's challenging taunt. "You see, I have my countermeasures against your attacks, and you have yours. Mine are a gift to me, I was born with them. Your instincts drive you to run and hide. I attack your animal because it shows itself to me, it does not cower back there and mumble." At the end of this tirade, the dire bat Uilo has been summoning appears and flies... upwards? A familiar yelp is heard as it attacks Corrux, who has been peeking down from the top of the opening of the cave. Husk has no way of tripping Corrux if the pixie is off of the ground, Uilo cannot see him, so it is up to the bat now. Dire Bat Attack 1/4 (1d20+5=6) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=383036) fumbles I think this quest may have broken the record for the amount of natural 1's rolled in attacking... The bat claws at Corrux, but the nimble pixie easily swoops out of its way and can be heard darting away. There is a suspensful moment of silence as the direbat flies out to try to find the pixie, but it cannot sense Corrux. Dire Bat Spot Check (1d20+8=23) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=383039) The bat suspects that there is an invisible creature even further up in the air. It charges upwards, sensing that there is a pixie there once it gets within 40 ft. of Corrux. Releasing an infuriated scream, the bat bites at Corrux but his wild teeth are no match for the techniques that Corrux has been taught well in. Corrux knows that the dire bat won't be there forever, so he simply keeps flying away knowing that he can outrun the direbat. This happens for the next two rounds. Uilo heals twice with her wand Uilo Cure Light Wounds (2d8+2=6) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=383045) but she is a bit disappointed with the wand's lack of enthusiasm. She touches Husk with the wand, seeing that the dog has taken one heck of an arrow Husk Cure Light Wounds (1d8+1=6) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=383046) Husk: 24/26 hp Uilo: 21/29 and Husk is mostly healed, feeling much better. The dire bat disappears, but they do not know what has happened. Uilo tells Husk to go check to see what happened, and the dog reluctantly goes to the entrance of the cave. Corrux takes two shots at the dog from up high Corrux Attack (1d20+13=33) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=383047) Threat, Threat Confirm (1d20+13=29) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=383048) Confirms, Critical Damage (3d6+3=15) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=383049) Corrux Attack (1d20+11=30) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=383050) nearly threatening hit, Damage (1d6+1=5) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=383051) One arrow hits the dog below the neck in a vital area, badly wounding Husk, and the next arrow is a mark of attrition as it thumps into Husk very close to the first. Deciding that staying put is a bad idea, Husk retreats into the cave, hoping that something can be done before Corrux comes down to finish the poor dog off. Uilo: 21/29 hp, Barkskin, Cat's Grace Husk: 4/26 hp, Barkskin Corrux: ??/?? hp I'll let you decide what to do next - this is a quest and I am not supposed to run it for you, it requires your participation. Husk is nearly down so its your turn. |
| Dracazar03-08-06, 05:29 PM | Ok, I try to go on with the quest even if I think we will go after the deadline and also this pixie is really overpowered (attack +13? and two attacks/round?). Also while the bats attacks Corrux, I asked that Uilo would try a flame bolt. Besides when Corrux attacked Husk, Uilo could try another flame bolt. Also every time Corrux speaks Uilo should try a listen check (+10 skill) to pinpoint his location. Uilo tries another tactic. Husk is off combat. Uilo would like to make the pixie no more invisible. So she has 2 chance. She could use her last scroll of Faerie Fire, or could use the spell Create Water from memory and try a downpour upon the evil flying creature. Uilo tries the Fearie Fire first, then attack with flame bolt. Same with Create Water (if Faerie fails, and if you allow it). You attack my companion because he is not coward as you. You fly away from me. You will die as your evil mother. If Uilo is quite sure the Corrux is few feet above ground (about 20') she could also try to entangle him because the area effect is 40' spread and should catch him. If out of these spells and out of bolts, the last chance would be a summon swarm from scroll but I'm not sure that the swarm damage overcome the damage reduction. |
| Sindorin03-09-06, 12:08 AM | Very well then. If you imply that I am cheating I will post the sheet I have for Corrux after the quest. You will see that it is very easy to attain such modifiers with limited class levels. You wanted a tough quest so you could attain an expensive item... don't expect him to roll over easily. Pixies are overpowered but that does not mean I can't use them in a quest. Simply let me know if you wish to stop and walk away from it. I have been more than fair in even allowing there to be a 'cave' for you to hide in. As for the coming round... Entangle is a 40 ft. radius horizontal spread... not vertical. I don't see how you would expect it to work against Corrux if he is 20 ft. in the air as you suspect. I suppose that's too much information. I guess we'll see what happens when you try to do the rain thing... "Mmm, I can smell the fear in your sweat, the quiver in your words is simply delicious..." Uilo orders the wounded Husk to retreat to her, and so he does, sharing her hiding spot with her. She quickly looks over his wounds. The arrows run deep, but the wounds will be fixed when the time comes. For now the situation was indeed grim, for she clung to her life with but a frail hand. Was there anything she could do against this monster? She suspected that he was there... everything was counting on removing his invisibility. Uilo drew her scroll of Faerie Fire and casted it targeting where she believed Corrux was. The radius spread of her spell must have caught something in its grasp, because there was a calm, flowing reaction, and all sound stopped as magical resistance fought against magical rune. Scroll Caster Level Check (1d20+1=12) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=383433) Suddenly the sound of the cave and of the forest outside return to normal. The white spark that had impacted a small thing became nothing. "Hahaha, nice try!" Little applause can be heard coming from invisible little hands clapping. Corrux takes a snipe shot at Uilo, even though she is behind cover. Corrux Snipe (1d20+12=17) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=383437), misses. As the arrow split harmlessly over the rock that Uilo and Husk were behind, Uilo thought about how she would go about removing his invisibility... How do you plan on accomplishing this? If you are properly creative you may have good results... |
| Dracazar03-09-06, 07:49 AM | If you imply that I am cheating I will post the sheet I have for Corrux after the quest. I'm not saying this, I don't understand how you have intended this You will see that it is very easy to attain such modifiers with limited class levels. You wanted a tough quest so you could attain an expensive item... don't expect him to roll over easily. AFAIK, pixie is LA+4 so for an ECL5 you could add only 1 class level. Also all basic monsters are assumed to have the Standard Ability Array (all 10's or 11's). You can assign those monsters Elite Ability Array (15,14,13,12,10,8) by increasing its CR by 1. This means that an elite pixie has no class level for an ECL5 Pixies are overpowered but that does not mean I can't use them in a quest. Simply let me know if you wish to stop and walk away from it. I have been more than fair in even allowing there to be a 'cave' for you to hide in. Yes, but to tell all, there was also opposed wind so Husk could not use scent very well, the pixie mocked Uilo even with a diplomacy check greater than the opposed sense motive check, Uilo has +10 to listen but you never rolled a reactive listen check to allow Uilo pinpoint the pixie every round he speaks or move (as in last round) As for the coming round... Entangle is a 40 ft. radius horizontal spread... not vertical. I don't see how you would expect it to work against Corrux if he is 20 ft. in the air as you suspect. I suppose that's too much information. I guess we'll see what happens when you try to do the rain thing... From SRD: Entangle Area: Plants in a 40-ft.-radius spread Burst, Emanation, or Spread: Most spells that affect an area function as a burst, an emanation, or a spread. In each case, you select the spell’s point of origin and measure its effect from that point. A spread spell spreads out like a burst but can turn corners. You select the point of origin, and the spell spreads out a given distance in all directions. Figure the area the spell effect fills by taking into account any turns the spell effect takes. However, even if rules allow it, If you don't allow it, It would be fine. I was asking you if you rule that swarm damage overcome damage reduction, I'm not sure of it so I'll wait your reply. Uilo, while in cover, try to cast create water to create some rain above the pixie zone, this should allow him to pinpoint the location and then she attacks with flame bolts. |
| Sindorin03-09-06, 10:49 AM | I love how you talk more out of character than in character. Really it adds a lot of flavor to the quest. Now that you are questioning my questlording I don't want to questlord for you anymore. Don't worry, you'll get your magic item. Here, whining gets you far. As Uilo is listening for Corrux, he begins speaking. "You know what, I am bored with you. So you killed my mother. So what? I actually do not care. She was keeping me locked up and now that she is gone I am free to roam. It was simply fun pestering you, but yes, you survived with your cheap tactics. The sad thing is, I am running out of arrows and that is annoyingl. So here, this is the bag that you are probably looking for. I am leaving and going to a place they say is the best place if you want to become truly powerful. I hope to see you there..." With that, Corrux throws the tan leathery and it lands right next to the rock where Uilo is hiding. "Good-bye." I will post rewards later. |
| Dracazar03-09-06, 11:42 AM | I'm sorry that you read my comments as personal attack. I thought that you could accept constructive criticisms. I still think that you did a little mistake with the pixie character sheet but I was ok with that. I never said stop here, because I thought that you will give Uilo a chance of win. I think that you will never put foes that cannot be defeated. My reasoning was this: You put a foe that has damage reduction that Uilo has big problems to overcome Also the foe has flying ability and Uilo can't fly Also the foe has greater invisibility So I think that it is fair to look for a cave where to fight, I don't think that you did a courtesy to Uilo, I think that this was the only chance of win mentioned above. Also you pointed me some rulings issues so I replyed with the quote from SRD that point that I was right and even if you rule otherwise I was still ok with that. Now if you don't want quest anymore it is your choice, I must respect it, but it is not my blame. |
| Sindorin03-09-06, 12:28 PM | By no means did I take this as a personal attack. I have run this quest by standards set forth by both the fact that you wanted an item too expensive to quest for at your on level so you had to bump it up and that you never stated what EL you wanted the quest to be. Since the second encounter ended up being something very trivial I was rather generous in giving it to you as EL 4. This makes the third encounter Level 6 - otherwise you won't get enough reward for the item you are questing for. Using the Pixie from the monster manual I have a 3 hd CR 6 pixie. Using the Encounter Calculator this works out. I asked you at the start if you were sure that you wanted to do this quest higher than your EL and you said yes. This is why I don't understand why I am being 'constructively criticized', but it doesn't bother me. His speech is of no consequence, think of it as a whisper. I'll edit it out if you want. EDIT: Also, nowhere yet have I seen quotes from the SRD as you said you have quoted. I'd like to see them so maybe I can be put in my place. |
| Dracazar03-09-06, 02:07 PM | Ok, it is good that you don't take it as something personal because I would like to be in good relationship with you, this is primary matter. I agree the previous EL4 was trivial. I'm not sure that this could be compensated with next EL tougher. I say this because questlording rules are quite clear about this: Sometimes you will find more than one number printed in the CR field, and they are divided by commas(EL5 allow CR4, CR5, CR6). That means you have to judge wether your particular monster will be a tougher or weaker version. That can have many reasons. Your wizard may have a good selection of magic items and scrolls which make him more dangerous than the same wizard without these items. Or your monster has a tactical advantage because it fights in its own terrain, or is especially dangerous to the player character involved It seems that you could raise the CR if the player has good items against that monster, and could lower the CR if the monster has terrain advantage. Now Uilo has no good items against a pixie and in open environment the pixie has great advantage so I think that both issues go against a CR6. But you are the questlord so I'm fine even with a CR6 but accept my comments above. Even with CR6 you can't reach a 3 hd pixie with Strength modifier +1 and Hit +11. The monster has base Strength no more than 11 and -4 racial, so it is Strength is 7, the modifier -2. You could use elite array and put base Strength to 15 (even with this you got 11 and modifier 0 instead of +1) but this raise the CR by 1 and so the pixie should have 2 hd. This allow me to think there were some mistake that made a tough fight even toughter. You say that his speech is of no consequence, let me say that this is not fair. The pixie speaks, I made some action based on the words he says and I got several wounds for this (do you remember the smile?) and now you says that this does not allow me a listen check, this is unfair. I was quoting from SRD when I wrote about Entangle, "spread" works in all directions, even up. Let me say that you did a nice quest and I think you are a good questlord and I think you are also a good tabletop master. But try to don't heat up if your player do a criticism. I hope that this discussion will not be a bias for ourselves. |
| Sindorin03-09-06, 02:57 PM | Okay, I think I understand where you are coming from a bit better. I think my problem was that I didn't understand how you would pinpoint with a listen check and that is my own fault for not checking the rule for it. The DC for hearing a whisper is going to be 15 + 3 for 30 feet of distance with most of those checks. Your listen modifier is +10 so the max you would get would be a 30. I guess you might be able to make a 28 to pinpoint it, but it would have to be a good roll. There are some instances where he does get angry and shouts. I'm sorry I didn't have an open mind when I was having him speak and I didn't realize his speaking affected your actions. I'll take a look at it later today and see what we can come up with. Sorry about all the problems. |
| Dracazar03-09-06, 05:28 PM | I'm happy that things are making clear. Let me say that talk DC is 0, whisper DC is 15 but it is used when you speak with someone adjacent you (generally is used to whisper an ally, and the DC is used for the foe to listen). Also please check if this CR6 is right for an EL5 and the abilities and hit dice for the pixie. |
| Sindorin03-09-06, 05:55 PM | Okay, we're getting somewhere. You will automatically pinpoint him every time he speaks unless you roll like a 2. That's my bad. The pixie is a CR 4 when he is a level 1 fighter. I bumped him up to CR 6 which means he is a level 3 fighter. He has a +7 dex mod +3 base attack +1 size +1 weapon focus for his single attack. There was one instance where he was higher than you so he had a +1 bonus for that. I'm pretty sure that all is legal. I used a 25 pt buy for his abilities. You have him pinpointed now if you wish to try something. If there's anything else that you need to know, take your time and we'll get this finished up. I think that the trick you were going to do with the rain would have worked well and negated his invisibility. |
| Dracazar03-09-06, 06:18 PM | A CR 4 pixie is not a 1st level fighter. If you make a 1st level fighter with pixie race you have +4 Level adjustment so your fighter is an ECL5 (1+4), a CR6 is a 1st level pixie with 2 level fighter. A 3rd level pixie fighter is CR7. Let resume where we were. Uilo, while in cover, try to cast create water to create some rain above the pixie zone, this should allow him to pinpoint the location and then she attacks with flame bolts. |
| Sindorin03-09-06, 06:59 PM | Uilo chants an abbreviated rain dance, and sure enough there is a quick swirling of clouds and then there appears to be a small form outlined in the dripping raindrops. "What trickery is this!?" a voice says, confirming to Uilo Corrux's exact location. The pixie suddenly appears, a very angry look on his face. Ah, that would be the miscalculation I made. I'm sorry about that. The Encounter will be brought back down to EL6 with the presence of the cave and now he won't be invisible anymore. |
| Dracazar03-09-06, 07:21 PM | Corrux, this is not a trick, this is the will of the Nature that take his revenge! Uilo cast his flame bolt upon the wet pixie. |
| Sindorin03-11-06, 07:15 PM | Corrux says nothing as the flying flame soars at him. Uilo Ranged Touch (1d20+5=15) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=385372) succeeds against flat-footed Corrux, Damage (1d6+4=9) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=385373) The flames hit him square in the face and the pixie is engulfed in flame. He says nothing but only glares at Uilo as he is whisked away by some unknown wind... In the wake of the wind unfelt by Uilo as she breathes a sigh of relief nearly as great, a small tan bag flutters to the ground where the embers dissipate, scorching the blades of thck grass outside of the cave entrance. QUEST COMPLETED. |
| Dracazar03-12-06, 04:49 AM | These are the flames of the hell the come to take you! Uilo throws another flame bolt on the evil pixie, she takes advantage of the last known position, the rain effect and the pixie voice to aim. After the attack Uilo looks for a near cover, if any, to cure her multiple wounds. With 2hd (cr6) should be 3+5.5=8hp Edit: Uilo would like to check if there are magic warding upon the pixie with her Spellcraft knowledge |
| Sindorin03-12-06, 03:53 PM | Edited due to retrogaming |
| Dracazar03-12-06, 06:51 PM | DAMAGE REDUCTION [...] The numerical part of a creature’s damage reduction is the amount of hit points the creature ignores from normal attacks. Usually, a certain type of weapon can overcome this reduction. This information is separated from the damage reduction number by a slash. Damage reduction may be overcome by special materials, by magic weapons (any weapon with a +1 or higher enhancement bonus, not counting the enhancement from masterwork quality), certain types of weapons (such as slashing or bludgeoning), and weapons imbued with an alignment. If a dash follows the slash then the damage reduction is effective against any attack that does not ignore damage reduction. [...] Whenever damage reduction completely negates the damage from an attack, it also negates most special effects that accompany the attack, such as injury type poison, a monk’s stunning, and injury type disease. Damage reduction does not negate touch attacks, energy damage dealt along with an attack, or energy drains. Nor does it affect poisons or diseases delivered by inhalation, ingestion, or contact. [...] Spells, spell-like abilities, and energy attacks (even nonmagical fire) ignore damage reduction. [...] Energy types are five: acid, cold, electricity, fire, or sonic Produce Flame [...] You can strike an opponent with a melee touch attack, dealing fire damage equal to 1d6 +1 point per caster level (maximum +5). [...] Uilo attack overcome pixie damage resistance, and the damage dealt should kill the 2hd pixie. I'm sorry to use again more gray text than ingame text but this issue is important. |
| Sindorin03-13-06, 12:48 AM | I have updated regarding my stupidity. Corrux is gone now and the quest is over. I forgot that damage resistance and damage reduction were two completely different things even though they function relatively the same way. |
| Dracazar03-13-06, 04:36 AM | Thanks Sindorin, I assure you that I'm not so pedantic in real life. If we were near I would have offered you a big pizza with beer. Tell me if you come to Naples :D |
| Sindorin03-13-06, 11:24 AM | Hah, that would be cool bro. I have updated the quest log with experience and rewards for Uilo. I'm pretty sure I got the exp right, but I'm never sure if I get the "other" rewards correct. Let me know if there is a chart I can use to write that up. I can't seem to find one. |
| Dracazar03-13-06, 03:44 PM | The guide is Advanced Rules: About Questlording The calculation is as follows: Uilo is ECL4 Week 1: ECL5 -> 1600 xp, 1600 gp Week 2: ECL4 -> 1200 xp, 1200 gp Week 3: ECL6 -> 2400 xp, 2000 gp The sum is: 5200 xp, 4800 gp For 3-week Quests only there is a 33% quest reward 33% of 5200 = 1716 33% of 4800 = 1584 So the result is: XP: 5200 + 1716 = 6916 GP: 4800 + 1584 = 6384 To the GP we do not apply the 3/4 rule because this is a fixed reward quest. Tan Bag of Tricks is 6,300 gp so it is ok. The XP should be 6916. |
| Sindorin03-13-06, 04:24 PM | Ah, I was pretty close, I just forgot the 33% bonus. Rewards have been updated. |
