Conditional Modifiers:
Rage: +2 to hit/damage
Fatigued: -1 to hit/damage in melee, cannot run or charge, -1 to ranged attacks

Feats:
In melee, every time you miss because of concealment, you can reroll your miss chance percentile roll one time to see if you actually hit.
An invisible attacker gets no advantages related to hitting you in melee. That is, you don’t lose your Dexterity bonus to Armor Class, and the attacker doesn’t get the usual +2 bonus for being invisible. The invisible attacker’s bonuses do still apply for ranged attacks, however.
You take only half the usual penalty to speed for being unable to see. Darkness and poor visibility in general reduces your speed to three-quarters normal, instead of one-half.

It has been more than 2 months now that Morgan was defeated while trying to bring down a blue dragon that has plagued the desert village of the Uqua tribe. Morgan has thought about resuming this quest for some time, as another pledge for help reaches Gladius.
Saleem, the same man that asked for help last time, has again travelled the long way and finds Morgan in an inn where he approaches him:

"Al-Kalim be thanked, I have found you!"
He looks exhausted and very weary from the travel, as if he has not slept for some time now.

"Our situation has become desperate. After your fight against the Dragon he came to us and took revenge on us for getting someone that tried to kill him. Nearly a quarter of our people are dead now and the dragon has caught 4 messengers that were trying to get help before me. You must help us!"

Sdentch is sitting in the same inn on a neighboring table and has heard this plead for help.

Sdentch's head perks up a bit from where she sat, moodily nursing a mug of Borgo's.

"Magics-arrows-man? You get in trouble with big snakie-things again? First the giant wormies, then giant ghosty-snakies, and now another giant snakie."

Sdentch shakes her head in consternation.

"Sdentch guess Sdentch have to go help Magics-arrow-man kill snakies again. {aside} Sdentch always followin' magics-mans around. Bad magics-man, Magics-arrow-man, Bald-magics-man...Sdentch needs new gig."

"So, what kinda snakie is this one? Sdentch hear they come in all colors and shapes and sizes. What Magics-man know?"

Sdentch pulls up a chair and listens expectantly.

The messenger shivers and looks suddenly less hopeful of his chances of saving his fellow villagers.

Morgan's head snaps up at the mention of his old foe, "She's a blue dragon...older and larger than what we've fought so far, and, apparently, vengeful. If she's terrorizing these people, I would be more than ready to go back and fight her again."

Morgan reaches out and drinks some of his ale, "Yes, I do seem to drag you around alot, don't I Sdentch? I tell you what, you come with me and help me out this time, and next time you get to pick where we go. Deal?"

Morgan throws a few silver on the table, and then hands the man a couple gold, "Stay here and rest for a couple days. I have to gather some provisions before we leave, and then we're off."

Can I make a quick shopping run, I just want to make sure I have the appropriate gear up. If not, no worries, I think I'm pretty well stocked.

The mans face shows signs of huge relief and he refuses the money.
"Thank you good heroes, and may the gods watch over you. But I will guide you back to our village."

Although he obviously wants to go with you, its clear that he is in no condition for a long journey and would most likely just slow you down.

Yes you can shop and change your prepared spells if you want to before we get going.

Shopping:
Potion of Remove Fear (50gp) I reccomend you buy one too Sdentch, helps vs. Dragon fear
Change Second level spells: Remove Scorching Ray, Add Resist Energy

That's it for me, thanks lonewolf!

"Yeah, Sdentch need few things, too. Need get Mule, for one. Sdentch meet you by northgate, arrow-man. See arrow-man soon."

Sdentch has +1500gp in her purse because of her last fight. She'll restock what she used vs. Telveren, and add these purchases to her list:

Buy potion of remove fear x 2 [-100gp]
Buy potion of aid x 2 [-100gp]
Buy potion of bull's strength x 1 [-300gp]
Buy potion of barkskin +2 x 1 [-300gp]
Buy tattoo of force screen x 2 [-200gp]
Buy tanglefoot bag x 2 [-100gp] = 1100gp

And that'll be Sdentch's "few things". The tanglefoot bags will be on Sdentch's belt, along with the one tfb already in MULE's inventory.

After shopping and declining Saleems help, the strange duo of adventurers moves out to kill the dragon at last. Morgan already knows the way and the most of their travel is actually rather boring.

One and a half week after their departure, Sdentch and Morgan make their final camp only a few hours away from Saleems village. Beeing so close to the Dragons hunting area, they decide to have a guard up all night, as Morgan only needs 4 hours of meditation anyway.

And it seems to be a wise decision since a few hours before dawn, Sdentch notices a huge mass of an ambulatory flame racing across the desert ground, seeming to flicker and spark from a central, humanoid shaped conflagation. Like a living inferno, the fire-creatures burning dance of heat and flame brings it ever closer to their camp.

At the moment it is still ~300ft away from your camp. I will do all the necessary rolls for this quest on the new CoCo roller. You can check on all the rolls here (http://www.hwx.it/wizards.com/dice.php?sid=150).

Suprise round for the creature and Sdentch only:

The fire continues to move in your direction. distance 240ft

{in Stage Whisper}"Magics-arrow-man! Wake up! Sdentch's campfire invited campfire's big, big brother to breakfast! ...and he's HUNGRY!"

For Sdentch's surprise round of actions, she will shout at Morgan {free} to awaken, quickdraw her large club {free} and draw oil of shillelagh {move}.

BTW. Lonewolf? Yeah, you. You're evil.

Just thought you should know that I know. =)

Have you thought about my law/chaos alignment yet? :D

The over 35ft high flamecreature closes in at fast speed while elf and orc start to prepare for the attack. distance 120ft

If you think that you need a map for this encounter, I will do one, but I doubt that it will be necessary.

Your turn.

EDIT:And btw: If I would be REALLY evil, it would have been a Earth elemental instead, gliding out of the ground directly in front of you. :schemes:

As Morgan picks himself up, Sdentch applies the oil to her club and draws another potion.

Apply oil of shillelagh to club {stan} and draw enlarge person {move}. Move toward fire creature 5' {free}. This is going to hurt.

We should wait for Myrridin to check in before proceeding.

It appears that I owe Sdentch/The Magister a huge apology. Yeah...picking up the ice arrows would've been a very smart thing to do, in retrospect.

Morgan steps to behind Sdentch {5' step} and casts Resist Energy (Fire) from memory on the orc. (I have 10% ASF due to my mithral armor, the spell protects against the first 20 points of fire damage every round)

He then moves backwards away from Sdentch, and tries to figure out his next move.
lonewolf

04-07-06, 09:08 AM
Morgan was sleeping/meditating and thus needs a move action to stand up. He is now directly behind Sdentch.
ASF passed

Beeing unable to charge through this rough terrain, the creature moves closer and ends its move 15ft in front of Sdentch with its flaming fists ready to attack.
Myrridin

04-07-06, 09:53 AM
After the Resist Energy(fire) takes on Sdentch, Morgan's going to move backwards 20', and casts Ray of Enfeeblement on the creature.

"I'm trying to weaken it for you Sdentch."
lonewolf

04-07-06, 10:12 AM
The ray of weakening energy easily hits the huge creature and weakens it a bit. 5 Str damage

"Thanks, magics-man. Gosh, that thing is big! And HOT!" She smiles gratefully at Morgan in return for the protection enchantment.
"But Sdentch can even things out some." She adjusts backward a step (out of the reach of those swinging pylons of flame) and draws a potion from her beltpouch.

Popping it into her mouth and chewing enthusiastically, she suddenly grows to double her normal size!

She casually slaps the now-monstrous club against her armored shoulder.

"Sdentch want have contest, fire-monster. Sdentch bet that Sdentch can hit softer than fire-monster. Fire-monster go first."

Sdentch currently has these statistics:
Speed: 35'
AC 17 (he was going to hit Sdentch on a 2 anyways)
Str 22 (+6)
Dex 15 (+2)
Con, Int, Wis, Cha unchanged

Attacks:
Huge Shillelagh +13/+8 melee or +10 ranged, 4d6+10 (x2)

Resist Energy (fire) 20

Saves: Fort +12, Ref +5, Will +3

The Fire seems to ignore the orcs challenge and hits as hard as possible while dancing around the couple. 17 damage to Sdentch

It ends its movement 25ft away from the orc beauty queen. Using Spring attack if you wonder. Your turn.

Sdentch eyes the speedy inferno with new respect as she shrugs off the heavy blow.

"Move to behind Sdentch, Magics-man. Sdentch gots trick for fire-monster."

Sdentch will ready an action to take a 5' step forward and attack the enemy as soon as it is within 15'. The ARENA rules forbid the 5' step as part of a ready action (I don't understand WHY, but they do), but there is no such limitation during quests. Here is the relevent section of the PHB.

READY
The ready action lets you prepare to take an action later, after your turn is over but before your next one has begun. Readying is a standard action. It does not provoke an attack of opportunity (though the action that you ready might do so).
Readying an Action: You can ready a standard action, a move action, or a free action. To do so, specify the action you will take and the conditions under which you will take it. Then, any time before your next action, you may take the readied action in response to that condition. The action occurs just before the action that triggers it. If the triggered action is part of another character’s activities, you interrupt the other character. Assuming he is still capable of doing so, he continues his actions once you complete your readied action. Your initiative result changes. For the rest of the encounter, your initiative result is the count on which you took the readied action, and you act immediately ahead of the character whose action triggered your readied action.
You can take a 5-foot step as part of your readied action, but only if you don’t otherwise move any distance during the round.
Initiative Consequences of Readying: Your initiative result becomes the count on which you took the readied action. If you come to your next action and have not yet performed your readied action, you don’t get to take the readied action (though you can ready the same action again). If you take your readied action in the next round, before your regular turn comes up, your initiative count rises to that new point in the order of battle, and you do not get your regular action that round.

Since I dont know how much time I will have the next two days, please post tactics for the rest of the fight, so that I can finish it in time.
@TM: readying a 5ft step is ok with me.
TheMagister

For Sdentch: next round, tap a tattoo of biofeedback after the elemental spring attacks. After that, keep readying the 5' step forward and swing with the trigger "just as soon as it moves to within 15 feet of me", so she swings right before it does.

Rage when brought down past 42 hps.

Start thinking of drinking a potion of fly and flying up out of reach in order to heal with CLW when brought down to less than 24 hps (raged) or 18 hps (non-raged).

When shillelagh runs out, tap tattoo of force screen and drink potion of shield of faith +2. Refresh shillelagh and resume the readying tactic.

That'll do me.

Make yourself useful, magics-man!
Myrridin

04-10-06, 08:55 AM
Step up to 5' behind Sdentch and cast Blur on her, giving her the 20% chance to be missed by the elemental.

If Sdentch gets below half, then cast Polymorph and turn into a 7-headed hydra. Proceed to try and bring down the elemental through the overwhelming amount of attacks that I get, and hope that some of them actually cause some damage.

Drink a potion of CMW if I get below 25hp. The second time I get that low, cast Fly and move up out of range.
Myrridin

04-10-06, 09:51 AM
Stay behind Sdentch, so at some point I'll be readying to move when she does. If I have a spare round, use the Pearl of Power (2nd) to recall the Resist Energy. Then my next spare round use the Pearl of Power (1st) to recall the Ray of Enfeeblement...I'll need these spells if we get through this encounter.

Man, DR 10/- is just nasty stuff, isn't it?

Just a suggestion: a high number of attacks will just hurt you when you hit it with natural weapons. Unless you cast resist energy (fire) before you shift.
Myrridin

04-10-06, 10:18 AM
Right. If I'm going to have to polymorph, please pause for a second and PM me with my form. I may have to reconsider, as I'd like to be able to have some resists for the dragon's breath weapon at the end.

04-12-06, 04:35 PM
sorry for the delay. I will have more time this weekend and next week to get back into schedule again.

The fire elemental continues to dance around Sdentch, who is hard pressed to get a hit in. After two more hits, she turns to Morgan looking for another way to fight this creature.

Due to a number of crazy rolls, Sdentch was hit twice and hits only once in 4 rounds. She is down to 34 hpafter two hits with high damage rolls. Morgan has both spells recalled and I would allow him to do an action in round 6, just before Sdentch receives the third hit.

Sorry about this fight, but I kinda underestimated the elemental and just looked at the CR.
Myrridin

04-12-06, 05:22 PM
Well, all I can do is fly up and away from the encounter. I literally have no chance of actually hurting the creature. I could use Enervation to reduce some more of it's attack capabilities, but that's not really the best use of the spell.

TM, any ideas here?
TheMagister

04-12-06, 05:25 PM
Well, don't just stand there, man! Rage her! Yeah, that elemental is nasty for us. It doesn't help that it's rolled darn near max damage with each hit, either.

Raged, Sdentch will swing that club at +15/+10 for 4d6+13 damage. She'll also gain 18 hps for 8 rounds. Don't forget to factor in her 2/- DR from biofeedback.

Myrridin, maybe you could try that Ray of Enfeeblement again? I dunno what else you could do, man.

:D

I just keep thinking, "Ice arrows..."

Don't apologize, dude. You couldn't have known. :(
Myrridin

04-12-06, 06:33 PM
If Ray of Enfeeblement stacked, I'd hit it again, but it's going to last for 70 rounds. One way or another, this'll be over by then. :)

Note to self: By elemental arrows when I have the cash.

I was thinking of the odds of getting better than a "2" on the d6 roll, but I guess it doesn't really matter. There's only a -1 or -2 difference between a result of "5" and a result of "8". Forget it.
lonewolf

04-12-06, 07:57 PM
so your tactics are just rage Sdentch and hope, right? (+Sdentchs heal tactics(fly+clw))
Myrridin

04-12-06, 08:03 PM
Yeah, that's pretty much the hope right now. If this fails, I guess we'll just have to abandon the quest, and try again.
lonewolf

04-14-06, 08:07 AM
After a brutal showdown between Sdentch and the elemental, Sdentch thinks that after the next hit she is going to drink the potion of fly and heal herself up again. What sh didnt expect was that the next hit of the elemental burns trough all her defenses and brings her staggering down.

Morgan, knows that this fight cannot be won here and takes his companion and flies them both into safety.

Tough luck again. The critical came when Sdentch was exactly at 24 hitpoints and it dealt 25 damage. But since the elemental was still at 119hp and Sdentch Rage was running out, I doubt you would have been able to win this fight even if Sdentch would have healed herself.

If you want to try the quest again I would ask Cat if we can start this quest this week, so that your characters dont loose a week.

TM
Myrridin

04-17-06, 04:12 PM
@TM: That would be the second one. Since we didn't defeat any encounters, we don't get anything. Still, we do get to have used up any expendables that we burned in that fight; which is nice.
