So yes, he could bring the Improved Familiar and suffer no reward penalty. As an aside, you can feel free to ask these sorts of rules questions in the Tavern, without the need for starting a new thread. :D BTW: I'm pleased to see that you are apparently considering a character build to enter as a gladiator!! -Jindl
