| Caterane06-24-05, 02:41 PM | Ok, Search function is back, and with it the inherent slowness of the wizards.com boards. Over are the days when I clicked on a thread and it opened and displayed immideately (as it should be with DSL 3000). And not to mention the frequent board downtimes, like today. I want to write a mail to the staff that they should deactivate search unless they can anyhow manage to make the boards work normally with the search function. But I want to ask you first. What do you prefer: Search+Slow Board or NoSearch+NormalBoard? I'll open a poll where you can vote, and I'll show the results to the staff. The fact that it took me longer to get this post here up than to write it says more than words. |
| Cerebus1306-24-05, 03:04 PM | Fast board = win. Drop search until they can figure out how to speed up the forum to something resembling a normal message board. |
| Rim-Soulfang06-24-05, 03:31 PM | So thats why it took 7 hours before i could acess the forum. Remove it! |
| Salrantol06-24-05, 05:24 PM | It would be one thing for a "slow board", it's quite another for a "board that times out 90% of the time if you only get 256 Mps".... |
| bgt06-24-05, 05:43 PM | My connection is zippy enough that the speed is unchanged. However, I pity you slowpokes and voted for normal board speed. |
| Deadly Assassin06-24-05, 06:11 PM | My connection is zippy enough that the speed is unchanged. However, I pity you slowpokes and voted for normal board speed. That's funny...I have the fastest connection of all my friends (which means its pretty damn fast), yet I still lagged or timed out. Oh well, it seems to be over for the time being. |
| Megrim_Lord06-24-05, 09:25 PM | YES!!! I am the only person who voted for search so far |
| Salrantol06-24-05, 09:42 PM | It seems, to me at least, that the problem has been solved. After about 5PM today, I haven't had any problems. |
| Sindorin06-24-05, 09:43 PM | I think it has to do with how far they have gotten in working on it. I have a zippy connection, and at first the boards wouldn't come up, then gradually it started to come up, but some of the formatting was not working. I just came back from work, and now it is working normally. |
| Caterane06-25-05, 06:33 AM | That's not correct. Sometimes the Board works normally, sometimes it is very slow so that browsing is a pain, and othertimes it doesn't work at all. That has something to do with Server Capacity and when xx,000 Users use the Search function that's too much. That's why I say we don't want to pay for search with a slow board. |
| Huan06-25-05, 07:56 AM | For those of you in programming, or a similar field (use this as a metaphor)... its seems to be a problem of Practicality vs. Luxury. In which case, you never want to have the luxury outwiegh the practicality, lest you have a very dissatisfied client. (what's the point of bells and whistles if the whole program does not work?) In this case, I do believe the Search function is beating back the overall performance of the boards, thus defeating the point (what's the point of having a search of the boards, if you cannot even get on the boards), and therefore we must sadly remove it until a more efficient version becomes available. |
| Caterane06-25-05, 11:05 AM | Ok, I have to close it. But they are working on it! |
