| Tellish_of_Ket08-04-04, 01:05 PM | This is a nomination poll only. Your vote/support does not mean that a certain person will be on the Council of Elders. "The Senate" name, is also hereby being changed to "Council of Elders". Also, the size of the Council of Elders is currently in discussion. Once we've elected new council members, a new thread will be started for them and we'll close the old Senate thread. Here's how to nominate. 1. you get only one nomination vote 2. you must post who you've nominated 3. the nominee must accept the nomination to be put into a ballot for the position which will then be voted on my the CoCo as a whole. 4. you cannot nominate yourself 5. poll closes Wednesday the 11th. ATTENTION K-MART SHOPPERS! It is important to note, that while the Council of Elders represents the core of the CoCo, none of it's rulings are binding and are subject to the acceptance of a FINAL rulings by the GM's. This doesn't mean their work is in vain, rather what it does mean is that before you nominate and then elect someone please ensure you feel that this person will best represent the CoCo, is rules knowledgeable, and not extremely prone to rash or hasty conclusions. The 11 nominees were selected from the Active Pitlords list (except MO of course). -ToK |
| Tellish_of_Ket08-04-04, 01:13 PM | I should note that MB, and Ethendril will retain their seats on the Council of Elders once new members are voted in. I would like to begin by nominating MO. (accept/decline?) -ToK |
| Druid Roxors08-04-04, 01:23 PM | Is this poll approved by the current Senate? I wouldn't want some Senators running arround the thread shouting "Null and Void!!!" Is Mo Back for good? Is he staying long enough to quickly respond to the issues of the council? I nominate Magagumo. |
| Aramil Dunskar08-04-04, 01:25 PM | Nominates MO for this position. -AD |
| Tellish_of_Ket08-04-04, 01:40 PM | Originally posted by Druid Roxors Is this poll approved by the current Senate? [This post will be edited with my final nominee selection] This poll is approved by the GM's. It was unanimous 3-0. We don't know if MO is back for good, but i included him on the list because of nostalgia and his obvious care and love for the CoCo. Besides, he's already been nominated twice now, and it really only takes one. If you feel someone including MO, can do the job then by all means nominate a second favorite. @ALL: OH, i should also state that you cannot nominate yourself. -ToK |
| Druid Roxors08-04-04, 01:45 PM | Yes, I do agree Mo should be allowed back into the senate. In fact, I believe he should be allowed to return and vote when he pleases. It is, after all, His creation. So, If only one nomination is needed, then perhaps we should vote for someone else. How many nominees will have seats on the senate? (place all this info in the first post, many might not read it and nominate themselves :P) |
| Myrridin08-04-04, 01:46 PM | I voted for Ashenai. |
| Tellish_of_Ket08-04-04, 01:51 PM | Originally posted by Myrridin I voted for Ashenai. I just want to remind "voters" that this isn't a vote for a position on the "Council of Elders" it is merely a nonimation. Ashenai now has the option to accept or decline this nomination by posting the answer here. If Ashenai accepts, once this poll closes, he will be put in another poll (assuming there are more than 3 nominees) for the final position. Nominating someone more than once is OK, it just shows how much their opinion is valued and respected. -ToK |
| Jindl08-04-04, 02:12 PM | @Tellish - Don't forget to tell everyone when this nomination poll closes. It's next Wednesday (1 week to allow people plenty of time to nominate others). I'll come back and edit this post later with my nomination. -Jindl |
| Caterane08-04-04, 04:32 PM | @all: Please note that this is not a poll to vote your favorite buddy but to vote those that may help balance the CoCo to the best of their abilities. And to those who are on the list: You will have a lot of impact on the CoCo and I don't have to remind you that you must vote in favor of this board, not your personal benefit. I am not accusing anyone but ask yourself this question: would you vote against your character if it benefits the CoCo? If the answer is yes, you're the right man/woman for the job! I voted for LLMadCow. He's not only one of the oldest and most respectest members but he's also proved what I just said over and over again. We need more people like him. Had I had a second vote it would've gone to Ashenai! PS: Mo will be automatically in the Council if he comes back |
| MotherBast08-04-04, 04:38 PM | I nominate Mag. If I could nominate 2 people, the second would have been Snark. |
| freemoody08-04-04, 08:09 PM | Druids Rock. WTF? Ashenai been here for three weeks. But posts like he's been here the whole time. I bet he's an alter ego of one of the Elders. Freemoody feels left out. |
| Tellish_of_Ket08-04-04, 08:14 PM | That is unfair Freemoody. People have said the same about you when you first came in. It always looks suspicious when someone "just starts out" and looks to be very knowledgeable. Some people make alternate accounts from their regular posting accounts specifically for the CoCo. This is quite acceptable. Perhaps it was a former member who left previously, and wanted to come back with a clean-slate if they felt their reputation discombobulated. There is nothing wrong with this. -ToK |
| Caterane08-04-04, 08:34 PM | Ashenai may be here for only a few weeks, but he showed more interest in the internal structure and happenings of the CoCo than many longterm members. His posts are always very rational and well-thought, and he possesses a wisdom and insight on how the CoCo works from that we should benefit from - by making him a Council Member. Also, he's the only one who took great pains to audit characters when no one asked him to do so. His fights are always very clean and if he now adds a story on top of that I'll enter the Ashenai Fanclub :D The possibility of an alternate account is zero. First of all, he is from Hungary. An alternate account doesn't list his nation, and if so he lists USA. I (German) don't speak hungarian, neither does Jindl (US) or Tellish (Canada), and Motherbast (Moon) doesn't even speak english LOL Sorry bud, I'm just kidding. Ethendril is not the kind of guy who creates alternates. Ashenai also uses this account on other boards which an alternate wouldn't do. He participates in discussions and everything. I eat a steak if this one's an alternate (I'm a vegetarian). |
| Ashenai08-04-04, 09:22 PM | Firstly, I would like to nominate SnarkHunter. I gather that he already was an Elder once, but he left. Nonetheless, I hope that he will accept this nomination. I believe that while many of us (me included) are adept at focusing on an issue with great intensity, dissecting and analyzing it, he is one of the few who feels comfortable stepping back and taking a look at the "shape of things", as it were. It is a skill that I feel is undervalued and rare here. Secondly, I am very grateful for my nomination, and I would like to conditionally accept it. Let me explain. I would very much like to become an Elder. I think the CoCo is an awesome place, one that I am proud to be a part of, and I would like to help make it even better. However, I recognize the fact that I am new here, and I do not wish to be seen as an "usurper", so to speak. Therefore, if anyone feels uncomfortable about my nomination, please speak out, or, if you prefer, send me a PM saying so. I promise that I will absolutely not think any less of you, nor will I ever divulge your identity to anyone, in public or in private. If three or more people express their concerns before the deadline is up, then I will have to regretfully decline. Otherwise, I'll accept. Again, thank you to Myrridin and Cat for the vote of confidence. Thirdly: I am not an alter ego of anyone, and I think I'll take freemoody's suspicion as a compliment. :) |
| cellardweller08-04-04, 09:27 PM | <double post> |
| cellardweller08-04-04, 09:32 PM | Adds another voice for Ashenai. |
| Druid Roxors08-04-04, 09:34 PM | I believe Ashenai will do a fine job as an elder. He is very knowledable and involved in the CoCo. I would also like to Accept my nomination. Thank you Freemoody. |
| Market_Share08-04-04, 09:37 PM | I nominated Cellardwellar. Why? I think he's go the coolest character (Johan) and overal seems to know a lot and has good taste. I don't think i've seen him explode on the boards and that's a good thing too. Responsibilty as well. SPIKE! |
| Ender the Xenocide08-04-04, 09:40 PM | I don't know if I'm qualified to vote, since I have only been here for a couple of days, but I think Jindl would be well suited for this position. From reading Jindl's posts concerning the melee'ers vs spell casters conflict, I think he has a good idea as to where this thread should go. Btw, Ashenai is obviously Caterane's alter ego. (just kidding) |
| El_Jaguaro08-04-04, 09:45 PM | I'd like to nominate Kattattack. As Ender, I am also new here so i may be making an uninformed decision. But from the information i've gathered, Kattattack is a generally wise individual and i'd have no problems with him speaking for the CoCo's interest. The Jag |
| Druid Roxors08-04-04, 09:46 PM | Err. you cannot select Jindl. He is in a position higher than Elder. Unless you want to de-grade him :P . |
| Ashenai08-04-04, 09:48 PM | Heh. You are certainly qualified to vote, but Caterane, Jindl, and Tellish of Ket are already GMs, which is the highest position in the CoCo (higher than Elders). |
| Jindl08-04-04, 10:21 PM | Originally posted by Ender the Xenocide I don't know if I'm qualified to vote, since I have only been here for a couple of days, but I think Jindl would be well suited for this position. (just kidding) Thanks for the vote of confidence, Ender. But as some of the others mentioned, my GM status prevents me from being a part of the Elders. Please feel free to post your nomination of someone else. It really doesn't matter what the #'s at the top are. We will be using the names that actually are nominated in posts, not just the ones that were clicked on in the voting. So, if you want to nominate somebody else instead, just edit your post to include their name. By the way, I'm posting a little question for all the new guys in the tavern. Could you take a look and give me your response? -Jindl |
| Ender the Xenocide08-04-04, 10:27 PM | Oopsie. :embarrass Why isn't Mo a GM, if he created this? |
| Tellish_of_Ket08-04-04, 10:32 PM | Originally posted by Ender the Xenocide Oopsie. :embarrass Why isn't Mo a GM, if he created this? He is, by default. But he doesn't have a lot of time to dedicate himself to it right now and if he ever comes back full-time, he usurps us all. That's why it would be nice to have him on the Council of Elders because his voice still counts for something even though we don't hear from him often. Right now we are trying to do the best we can with the CoCo and with all the personal squabling we've really messed things up. What we are trying to do now is undo some of that mess and make the place habitable again. -ToK |
| cellardweller08-04-04, 11:33 PM | Originally posted by Market_Share I nominated Cellardwellar. Thankyou for the vote of confidence, but I am going to have to decline. The reasons are the same as when I gave up being a GM/Elder in the original arena - RL commitments mean I don't always have the time to pour over the minutae of rule wordings to make a properly informed descision. |
| Moherajikuyx08-06-04, 03:22 PM | Hey the threads are fast nowadays at the CoCo! And it's august... Usually the boards grow in numbers at the start of the school year - :D - so I bet the CoCo's going to expand! Back to argument... I propose Myrridin, because he's the dm in the only active campaign of the CoCo - and really active to boot! - which puts him in the position of having a "different view" upon many aspects of minmaxing. This is good because he could show his view in the senate meetings, and who plays in his campaign, or anyone else, could happen, now and then, to share those views and to give him his support on any vote. I think that the senators, and I think that ToK agrees - correct me ToK - are there to show the gms the "CoCo way of thinking things", so that they may rule knowing what the general opinion is, and not only knowing their opinion. So having different opinions in the senate is good: it means having more chances to see all the aspects of the CoCo. To tell it politically correct: it's a vote for diversity! :D LOL don't hate me Myr! And, after all, this board was born to serve as a minmaxing instrument for campaigns too (even though this isn't the easiest thing, and others disagree with this purpose I had): so, I really hope he will find the time and accept the nomination. Many others probably should be senators, but there's only one option. And others were nominated already so don't think that I didn't think of you. How many senators are we going to have? I feel that for a bigger arena, more than 7 are needed, to give everyone and every opinion a proper representation in the senate. Originally posted by Druid Roxors Is Mo Back for good? Is he staying long enough to quickly respond to the issues of the council? Appropriate indeed. Well, if I might make a forecast, I think that I'm going to participate in some of the discussions - not all, to read any threads that anyone points me at, even though not always timely, and to give my opinion when requested, hopefully within few days - usually less. Also, I'll try to show a good degree of participation in a certain thread, but this is still a surprise :) Otoh, work might keep me from posting for 3 or 4 days in a row sometimes. This bars me from participating in the arena: it's not likely that I'm going to revive any CoCo character for quite a while... If anyone feels this is not enough, I'll decline. Gm: I left the position in front of gorgeous wizo-shadow, a little time after the board was born, when I started with the new job. Thanks Tellish for explaining it so finely. I was awarded with the CoCo founder title, thanks to a Cat's idea, which I continuously drool about! And thanks everyone else for being so sweet with me! And giving this old chap so much consideration! :weep: Sniff! :weep: Sniff! :cloud9: |
| Druid Roxors08-06-04, 03:36 PM | Excelent! I believe that not posting for 3-4 days would be a problem. Since issues on the Senate will be active for at least a week. I believe it would be good to have you in the senate (or as a GM perhaps?). Good to see you will be participating more on the forum :). |
| Pittbull08-06-04, 04:17 PM | I voted for Myrridin, as for the reasons Mo already mentionend! Ash and Hatz might be two person who suit pretty well too! |
| Myrridin08-06-04, 04:19 PM | Thank you. I accept the nomination. |
| ^Rayne^08-07-04, 03:23 PM | I placed my nod and nomination for Myrridin. I don't agree with anyone 100% of the time but I believe some individuals take the CoCo far more seriously and try very hard to make it a fun experience for everyone. Myrridin participates in many ways to making this section of the boards a fun place to visit. I can't think of anyone more deserving of Elder status than Myrridin (who isn't already at Elder status or isn't MO). So if an additional Elder needs to be added, it should be Myrridin. |
| LLMadCow08-08-04, 06:25 PM | I apologize for the delay in my official response, I just wanted to take the proper time and consideration in regard to what I wanted to post. Well, after some careful consideration, I have voted for Ashenai. My vote was a toss up between Ash and Snark, but I went with Ash to show a little more support for the young upstart! In all honesty, there are many good people who would do well to serve on the Council of Elders. To address my nomination by Cat: I gladly accept the nomination, although it seems as though no one else would seem to agree with you... :( The CoE is a position that needs diversity and passion. I see so many different people with different ideas and opinions. We come here to have fun. We come here to test builds. We come here to get some role playing in when our RL has no time for it. We all have different reasons for being here, but the two main things we need are: Balance and Structure. Through diversity of personal background, the CoE offers up different points of view on any given topic. Through diversity of the characters we play, we offer up different personal knowledge about how any change might impact the other characters. Through diversity of our entrance into the CoCO, we have different points of view of the pseudo-political movements within the CoCo in regard to where we are going, where we have been, and where we need to put our focus. Through our passions, we will push for a better CoCo. We will be the driving force behind change and stabalization. All of us on the CoE has to be willing to take a stand for what is right for the entire CoCo. Despite our passions, we have to be willing to take the time to debate the issues, read up on the issues and make informed decisions. Finally, I want to take a brief moment to let everyone know where I stand, and who I am: Those who know me, know that my real name is Brian. I am genuinely an Elder in the CoCo, as I was here before the CoCo was founded. I was a part of the Arena and some of the prior versions that failed. I had an opportunity to step up and say that I wanted to be more active and perhaps had a shot at being declared a GM, but I passed on the opportunity since I know how time consuming the job of a GM is and my life is sometimes hectic. When I was an Elder, I pushed for some of the important votes and always stood my ground (I was the driving force behind allowing Red Wizards as an available prestige class). Anyone who reads through all of my posts will know that I am passionate about the CoCo and the direction it is taking. I am a role player at heart. I can Min-Max with the second-best of them, but I usually choose not to. I have played a variety of characters and creatures in the CoCo. I am credited with some of the 'Firsts' in the arena: Devon the First Archer and Lothar the First Orc. I play Magic Users and Physical Combatants. I came up with the name Gladius, as well as the names for all of the burroughs of Gladius and some of the locales. Summary: I love the CoCo and I desire to be a part of the Council of Elders. |
| Beldin08-10-04, 11:30 AM | voted for druid roxors. not to difficult to see that he cares for the coco and knows the rules. the second would have been snarkhunter |
| Jindl08-10-04, 11:37 AM | I have waited for a while, before posting my nomination. There were several players that I thought would make good Elders, and I wanted to give them all a chance to be voted in. Luckily, many of you have already nominated them for me (in no particular order): Snarkhunter ... nominated. Magagumo ... nominated. Myrridin ... nominated. Druid Roxors ... nominated. Battousai2005 ... NOT NOMINATED (yet). So, I'm gonna nominate Batt. As the only player to play a straight fighter with any success, and as a player who focuses on non-spellcasters, I think his opinion could be valuable to the Elders. So, Batt, you've got my nomination. -Jindl |
| Tellish_of_Ket08-10-04, 12:51 PM | Yes, but also, Mag and Snark have not accepted their nominations. I hope they do though. -ToK |
| Ashenai08-11-04, 12:48 AM | Which reminds me. As--so far--exactly 0 people have said that they felt I shouldn't be nominated (yay!), and I doubt everyone was waiting until the last minute to crush my hopes... :D I accept my nomination; thank you. |
| Druid Roxors08-11-04, 12:55 AM | I do! I... oohh... I didn't get the chance of crushing them... :P J/K I think you would do a fine job as an elder :) Originally posted by Beldin voted for druid roxors. not to difficult to see that he cares for the coco and knows the rules. Thanks Beldin :) Edit: Gosh, this Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is killing me! :( |
| Tellish_of_Ket08-11-04, 02:21 PM | Poll closes today. We still need Snark and Mag to accept or decline their nominations. -ToK |
| Jindl08-11-04, 02:28 PM | and Battousai2005. |
| Battousai200508-11-04, 02:50 PM | Wow. One question: why is my name up there? I'm flattered, really. Just a little overwhelmed. I love you guys!!! Anyway, voted for Snark. He seems to have a level head and hears both sides of an argument before coming to a decision. |
| SnarkHunter08-12-04, 03:56 PM | Hmm, well I wasn't sure about coming back to Elderdom, but I do appreciate all the voices of support. I'll accept my nomination, but I must admit RL commitments may press so that I will have to scale back the time I spend here. I'll let everyone know if this will be the case far in advance though. |
| Magagumo08-12-04, 04:44 PM | I will also accept my nomination, and my thoughts parallel Snark's. I will be happy to provide a voice if elected and cast deciding votes. In recent time, I've seen people ciomplie a list of quotwes/links to support their arguement.. I highly approve this (I know Ashenai and Jindl have both done this, and others as well). IMO, this will make decisions much easier and cut down on redundant posts/arguing (hopefully :)) But yes, I will be contuing to particpate in the boards, but will likely stop checking the validity of each fight as much.... my Senior COmprehensive project has a slightly higher priority right now (second only to sleep/food, and perhaps occassionally fun ;)) Personally, I vote for Ashenai. |
| Tellish_of_Ket08-12-04, 06:58 PM | Ok. With all nominations having been accepted or declined (other than Katt), this poll is now closed. I'll see about making another poll for the nominees, or wether it will be a GM vote. I'll get back to ya on that. -ToK |
